"I hope you'll have too many crazy stories coming out of it. But i just like Just like with you. I mean the detroit pistons are just picked up. Something new and exciting this off-season that's cake cunningham. I think i do have kind of a running bit on accident. Where just as i genuinely love talking about like the thirteenth men on teams I start with that but it would be disingenuous. Started detroit pie without talking. Mccade a little bit about trey lyles. We will know it would be tomorrow. Pick is where i would. Actually we can talk about pick as georgetown fan. Demarco is like i mark. I was a pretty stouffer him. But i can't continue that one so we'll we'll him later but Paid obviously like. I mean you. Would you'd written about him a before. He even got drafted because you were doing great draft to thanking just in terms of lake personality being around him getting to interview him and talk similar bit. What of your one of your thoughts. Bene- cage so far since coming to detroit like anything that stuck out to you. That's been different or like kind of gone against what you'd maybe initially thought heard prior coming in just a great kid. Great young man. I mean personable. Very polite whenever he's done with the media availability. You can always count on my appreciate. You guys always takes taking time out in the short Instances we've had with them. I met i went to the draft. So we got a little bit of facetime there Just down to earth guy tell. He was raised right. I actually have a story coming out. I'm pretty sure it's coming out today. It'll be it's out if you're listening to this Where i talked to his brother cannon and his cousin ashton who are as trainers and We talked about just preparing kate for life as the number one pick this summer and in what they did this off season and i mean those two guys also good head on their shoulders very just i guess mature family the the they were raised right and i think it's very noticeable. I think i think he's gonna be. I think they're gonna assume this all suming he's he's good which i think he'll be good. I guess he's a superstar. I think at the very minimum. He'll be a good nba player. I don't think that's a question I think in terms of superstardom. I think people will probably try to make him a bigger figure than he actually is just simply because he's the number one pick but he's a very down to earth guy he's not very rollock he's funny But it's it's like dry humor.

"Do you think they do it on the euro side and do you think guys that are. Do you think the burgers and chris woods of the world are are looking at rory and rahm and saying i'm going to i'm going to i do i do i but i think that's a different. The huge difference talent. I mean i think the you know the the harris english in zander's and whatnot. Those guys like guys compete very well with speeds on a regular basis right. It's not like it's not a yeah. The resumes are different. But it's not. The same gap is like a burger versus roy. You know what i mean. Yeah and i think that gets it like like knowing your role in playing it. Well can't lay has to walk in the room. Even though he just won the fedex cup. He's got a ton of money all this stuff and no like hey. Jt's playing five matches. And i'm not can't let my he might. Yeah well who knows at. That's that's a bad example. But like i think. What i'm saying is i think. The euro side like they. They all know their rolls really. Well they know that rory's the guy they know that roams the guy and they are so willing to wait on their preferences until two to take on humility and be like. I'm just like the the grandma thing that takes a ton of humility right. It does and i and i think that. And that's what. I mean by following. Jt and speed. I don't mean like you got to sign up to be like. Oh i play this whole. I mean like okay if those are going to be the two guys and whoever it ends up being. Maybe it's more cal i dunno. Then i'm gonna play this role. And i'm going to go out and do it the best i can and if downgrade and if not that's okay but this is what i'm doing you know and i think that's essentially what we've been saying they're out this whole podcast of the difference between the european side and the americans man. I've gotten ryder cup. Time when i've gotten too high on the us. I do every single. What i get too high on. It and i think today is successfully done that. I've learned nothing over the last supper. Which who would you. Would you replace brooks with if he's out. I'm not prepared to answer that. Because i've it's been so crystal clear for me who the six picks should be that i've in my head. I've downplayed number thirteen on the list. Pretty strongly i think if it was me picking. I think you'd have to talk me out of san burns you know. I think it'd be again if we're kind of doing this. This you know potential up and coming player like we have so many known quantities like the the the the likelihood that web is gonna come onto this team and like knock blow. The doors off is so low. That like i'd rather go with some upside right play burns and a if he played poorly in his match. You wait till singles right. You gotta get one match to try to prove yourself if you play. Well we'll send you back out for a second match if not you'll play singles and that's that's the role you play on your team. I that's not unreasonable. Ask of the thirteenth man. So you i like that. I either burns her web pro me into burns. I think i think that it fits with what it seems like. Stricker's trying to. I think they've got enough of the veteran guys. And i think if you have the right veteran guys you can't have enough rookie Up and comer future stars that just it just makes a ton of sense in this type of this type of on more neutral. Golf course kevin now would be the answer like kavanagh's numbers last three months or legit. He's played extremely extremely at golf. And i mean. I think he's the best american play over the last three months over over strokes game but the course matters that much to me it really does and i know a lot of people don't agree with that and want to discount it but this is a truly unique one and i will put my hand up at the end of all of this if the course ends up not playing as much of a as i think i will say i was dead wrong but i'm digging my feet in on that one. That's for sure. So what's your what's your plan for. Viewing i mean. I'm kind of concocted. This a lot of different ways in my mind what i wanna do. It's hard to. It's hard on the ground at team events to like. Pick the right match and keep up with what's going on in the rest of them and be able to report back and talk about the other day. What's your plan. yeah. I'm so. I'm getting there on wednesday. I think wednesday morning or wednesday afternoon. And i've just get out to the course. Wednesday are probably not all thursday. I guess and then i. I don't know i'll probably just whatever you do. I'll probably price fall to say we. We had so many like just hilarious like you walking around with like following poulter around in two thousand sixteen and then and then rory bowing just all these different things that we got to experience together. That was just so much fun that superseded anything we could have experience you know seen on our own that was maybe ten percent better or whatever so i don't know i mean i'm going to be out on the course as as much as humanly possible. It's just it's like that at that event being inside the ropes makes more difference than any other event in the world because the everybody soak compacted you. You went to medina outside the ropes tried and it's just so difficult to be there and to see anything want to be part of an awesome can totally go and do that and hang out and watch on the jumbotron and wait for groups. Come through and scream your head off if you are golf nut and want to see a lot of golf. The ryder cup is the hardest. It's it's impossible. There's just not enough golf. Being played out there toy that in augusta. But it's also i mean people ask. My friends asked me all the time. Like what do you. What do you enjoy going to the most and unequivocally yep right because it i mean it's it's really i mean. I love the masters the us open scrape pga. Threatre.

"Last year only one thirteenth man and one of the things that i absolutely loved about utah last year was how many minutes and meaningful minutes quin snyder. Got some a. I still think there is a lot there for him to work on his decision. Making is not quite there yet. Like he's a solid fuel guy but like he he's still stops the ball a little bit and that was killer for the jazz like it wasn't all the time but there were moments where life may only gets the ball in the corner and he's a capable shooter like if somebody's closing out to him and he doesn't take the ball right away that can really negate the initial advantage created by donovan mitchell. Mike conley or whoever drives and especially for the way that utah's built. You can't do that so i think you're looking for that for me only this year but i also thought he showed some real flashes defensively that i liked last year. He just brings more athleticism. I think if the shot is there and he's capable of attacking like he can drive to the rim score room. He can do stuff as a quarter that i really like. He's somebody who. I'm high on coming into this year as a real bet on candidate and what they can do like looking at royce. O.'neil a couple years back as he started to come. In as a as an undrafted guy i wanna say was undrafted. I can't remember my apologies from wrong on that. I don't have the time to look it up right now. But i really liked how he started to integrate. And we've seen how he's become a real star in the league now. I think that that's there for miami and with more ball hanley chops and i think there's a little bit more upside for him to just as an offensive player. I'm very to see how that works. Allies hughes who was their second round draft pick out of syracuse i. He didn't play a talk for utah. Last year. he played more in the g. league. I didn't watch his dealing minutes just to be completely honest watches much because i wanted to last year. We'll probably watch more this year analysis out of school but with the logic us like he showed some real. I know he got very hyped up in the twenty twenty draft because of i. I don't mean a positive or negative. Just mean like he was hyped up because i think he led the ncaa isolation scoring efficiency. If i remember correctly he's a good size wing with some shock creation shops and ability to do that. I wanna see more from him defensively. I don't know what his playmaking is like. Because again like i haven't seen him since syracuse..

"We focused on where it's not just a number of games lost but the types of game lost so we use my database folks on the soft tissue injuries because those are the ones that do having fatigue component of of and they were up as the season progressed And so when the league is come out and said the injury rates aren't considerably higher. I agree with that. In a sense. They're not considerably higher but they are elevate and the types of injuries might be different than than in seasons past. And so you know i. It's hard to really compare seasons because of the different number of games played and all the different variables that go into the schedule. But it did. It did look from the data collection that overall the number of injuries. If we played a full eighty two game season would have been up. But we didn't. We can't just make that jump or we can say hey looking at some of the previous trends they do seem to be elevated. Then what you gotta do is remember that injuries are always a factor whether it's a freak injury fatigue injury every single year. We have their their. There's a reason why. I have a website and the database and a job because injuries happen and not all injuries are created equal. But you can start looking for trends. And that's what i try to do with. My database with a website is look for those trends and the big trend that is noticeable. Everybody is the star players being injured. I it so it's a little bit of reasons. He buys right like we don't necessarily care when the thirteenth man on the roster misses the entire season. 'cause he probably wasn't gonna play much anyway even though his you know twenty games loss or whatever maybe are going to contribute to the overall raleigh total. We care when lebron misses twenty games riley. Quick that's a big big. That's a that's a newsmaker right. That's a headline. And so this postseason. We've had a lot of big name. Players get injured and and miss time or play with that injury and be hampered so when able to ask me. And i trust and i get asked every single year are injuries up. I was gonna say yes but it's also a little bit of reasons. He buys 'cause. I generally get back question after we've had three or four big name. Players go down and that tends to happen every year at like there will be a all star player that suffers as significant injury. So the proof is in the pudding. There are some numbers that suggest. Injuries are up. But i do wanna tell you. Injuries are not linear so we can't just say the schedule is the reason. Why but i've always compared kind of injuries tutu spiderweb right if the players in the middle of the spiderweb you pluck one string on our web. The whole thing is going to be affected and that's how injuries are if the schedule gets changed. That's that's that's going to influence the web if the player as a previous injury that's gonna affected if he's a certain age that's gonna affect and so it's it's a multi factor approach to get individual player and the variables were not consistent like they would be an enormous season in our rookies. Some of them like a guy like wiseman who didn't have much of a college season he didn't play professional like competitive basketball for nearly a year when he was drafted in played. You know you had other guys that were in the bubble and had a.

"More podcasting with really helps my mental health a lot. I hang out with my kiddo. I lift weights. I play xbox. I've binged netflix. Shows constantly now that it's summertime float trips. Whitewater rafting is in my future so things to get out the house with. I found that one of the problems with this whole policing issue bed that divides people you find. That people have a hard time humanizing. Either side of it right. Whether it's a police officer or a criminal you see the issue on both sides for an end. So i don't know one of our listeners had had brought up the prison system and i thought we would give it. They are in kenan. Get your take on in our prison system. Maybe talk for a little while about that. Potential ways that it can change for example. W scene documentary thirteen on netflix miller. That is amazing that you have. That makes this a whole different if you could explain a little. Bit of what thirteen is the thirteenth man. I i really don't i don't really remember to to explain it. I kind of watched it. And i watched a bunch of other stuff. I'll do a small little thing. It's documenting on netflix's in it's about the current Prison system in our system. That many could make a comparison that it is a form of a slave labor and that it is a second form of encampment in an. It's just another version of what and this is the just the angle that they're trying to make it in this is that it's another form of a slave labor again paid pennies and they have their Rice stripped it's a whole thing like that. I wouldn't necessarily expect a cop to take time to look at something like that. And my fellows. Correction officer astronauts kindle. Either but you have so. What's your perspective on that. You know my my perspective on the on the entire prison system that it's it's shattered been broken. You know it so. I think people's first issue with prison is they're not comfortable with you. Know the the westphalian system. They're they're not. They're not comfortable with organizations or the government having a monopoly on violence and then them not having any say in what happens to them when they're put into the system because when people enter the system you're ultimately at the at the will mercy of.

"I mean, he was, he was start off with just a few weeks ago. He was a starter when Anthony Davis was out and now here he is, once again pretty much relegated to the bench, I guess the the good thing is Vogel has other options. If he doesn't turn it around, vogel's got other options to turn to, but the ideal scenario is not. I'm going to go to player X because this guy's playing poorly. It's everybody's playing poorly and not have to figure out what the best matchups are. Yeah. And, and Marquis Marquis, and Wesley Matthews have been in the same boat, where they've been played out of the rotation, and then played back in, and then starting and played back out, like, they've been on a roller-coaster this season. So, right now, Wesley Matthews is that like the peak of his powers and Markieff Morris is that like the absolute Valley of his power. So home, We they both can reach that Peak at the same time cuz if they're both playing well, that's a lot of really Savvy. Veterans that can win you games. If Markieff Morris was a stock, I'd be buying right now. Yeah cuz it can't get much lower. Yes. Yeah. It's not going to get much lower and, you know, he's still going to get opportunities to bring that value back up KB. The goat from YouTube to Trevor, should we look to keep Ben McLemore long-term? I think it depends on the price tag, but if he's a guy, you can keep around for say, like a veteran-minimum deal or something. And again, I don't know if you would take that, right? I'm not saying that, but if he's sitting there and you've got a veteran-minimum to offer and he will take that. There's no reason why you wouldn't. Yeah, I mean I definitely would keep him around for that and he's shown that he can hit threes 40% from 3 tonight, 245. He's able to get hot quickly and knock those in and on a team with LeBron James, that's important guys who can space the floor and knock in threes, and it also doesn't hurt that. He's a clutch Sports clients. Oh, yes, he's somebody. I'd like to keep if I have to pay him more than the vet minimum, if I have to give him a five million, a year contract to keep him around. Now, I'm dipping in to an exception of mid-level exception, something like that, then that's where it starts to get a bit more questionable, but I think he's been he's been good in his role. Yeah. And it you said it right. I mean it's it's a veteran-minimum or he can go somewhere else. I mean like he is when everyone is healthy he is the wage twelve. Maybe thirteenth man in the rotation I'm not paying more than the veteran minimum for guys 12 through 15 on the roster. Yeah yeah and they can't the Lakers aren't in a position where they can do a job. Certainly..

I mean, it's been for the ultimate bandwagon fan. I am the ultimate thing. I I can't even believe you're going to try to pull this off and be like and things are not going to call you on this shit. I know well as well you should but we'll talk about the Crimson Tide here in a little bit first. Listen anybody make sure you subscribe Goodman and humble podcast every single week. We've got a great show for you today. We've got none other than UConn head coach Danny Hurley coming up later in the show and if you have a dog And to me and Danny Hurley, it's always pretty entertaining and I'm sure it will be that way again. He's sarcastic. He's negative will get him to maybe tell a story about his wife a girl who made a she made her debut on on my pod a few months ago. And she she roasted him. I mean just absolutely roasted Danny Hurley. So hopefully he'll fight back a little bit. But listen Rob, I think we gotta start out and I kind of did it in the last part. I think I admitted that I've screwed up a little bit on Michigan, but I'm ready to come clean completely wage. I'm ready to fall on the sword and say I completely effed up and I loved you on Howard. I really do like I'm always afraid I was wrong about not only this way you can team but also that you want Howard higher because I lump all these former NBA guys with a hundred plus million dollars in the bank together when they come to college and I'm like, they don't really succeed off. I mean, yeah, they don't like how many of them we've seen Chris Mullin now Patrick Ewing Damon Stoudamire has done a nice job of precipitation Panic Penny down in Memphis and you gotta Memphis. I mean most of them did not succeed you want how it is done a hell of a job. This team is undefeated. Now, they have humbled absolutely pummeled their last three opponents and the last thoughts were like, okay Northwestern Minnesota Minnesota at home, you know when Minnesota's on the road they kind of stink so you kind of throw that one out but but now beating the hell out of Wisconsin. What is this a to me? I'm going to have them and number three in the country right now. Yeah, they've earned it. I think they totally deserve that. They I think you have to give Juwan Howard a ton of credit and use it. Like first of all that dude is just a super nice person and like it's pretty cool because he's played like every role he's been the thirteenth man an NBA team..

I've screwed up a little bit on michigan but i'm ready to come clean completely like i'm ready to own sword and say i completely afd up and i love you power. I really do like i'm tired. I was wrong about nine. Only this michigan team but also that you want howard higher because i lump all these former nba gas with one hundred plus million dollars in the bank together when they come to college. And i'm like they don't really succeed. I mean yeah. They don't like. How many seen chris mullin now. Patrick ewing Damon stoudamire stunning. I shower pacific panic. Penny on a memphis down in memphis. I mean most of them do not succeed Juwan howard is a hell of a job. This team is undefeated now. They have pummeled absolutely pummeled. Their last three opponents in the last two were like okay northwestern minnesota minnesota at home in a one. Minnesota's on the road they countess. Thanks so you you kinda throw that out. But but now beating the hell out of wisconsin. What is say to me. I'm going to have number three in the country right now and again. I think they deserve that. They i you have to give juwan howard a ton of credit and you said it like first of all that dude is just super nice person and like it's pretty cool because he's played every role he's been the thirteenth man in nba team. He's been an nba all star. He's been he's been an all american. He's been a mcdonald's american. He's coached like there is nothing that when you go to play for this dude where he's ever going to be like where you're coming from. He really understands every part of where you could become. So i think that's really cool and i think that you have to give him a ton of credit for for one assembling a staff that's going to allow them to be successful. And i think the phil martelli higher is huge. Saudi walks into great assistant. Coach howard eisley. they're different. They are they all they all bring very different things totally totally but he has gelled this team together. I mean there was serious question. Marks like i i said the start of the year i thought michigan could be anywhere from fifth to twelfth because there was huge question marks. I don't think that that was unfair. You lose abra. Simpson you lose..
