NFL Cardinals Beachum Zambia, intro wrap-Ferry1
"Kelvin beach and his traveled the country as an offensive tackle, playing for the Steelers Jaguars jets and Cardinals since 2012. In March, he made a trip to Zambia after constructing two clean water wells and financing a third. We actually wanted to actually see the work. We wanted to see how it impacted people and how water impacted their lives, how access to what impacted their lives and those who did not have access to how it affected their lives. Beacham was the Cardinals, Walter Payton man of the year in 2021 for his humanitarian work. He's associated with food banks in his hometown and every city where he's played. Beecham also was a champion of local education equity, but his association with world vision has led him to international causes. I met world vision this has to be 2015 with 2014, 2015, and I got introduced to him through the NFL PA as young man Dexter Santos. And he knew what I was doing quite a bit here domestically and I told him to start thinking about things on a global scale. Beacham says he doesn't do it for acknowledgment. I think I'm going to do the work regardless. It's not about whether I can support for the National Football League or the NFL V8 or fans. I would do this work because I think that this is important. This is the legacy that I want to leave for my children. This is the work that I want my children to grow in. Does beach and plan to go back to Zambia? So the question is, do we take Ikea to make due to retirement trip? So we love to see anytime we make an investment so you want to see what does it look like over time. Given his track record of humanitarian effort, there are more international trips in beecham's future. I'm Dave ferry.

The Nashville Shooting Was a Hate Crime Against Christians
"The incident in Nashville, the mass shooting has got to be understood for what it is and anti Christian act. And act of terrorism against a Christian school and by the way an accompanying Christian church. By a transgender shooter who appears to have been motivated by transgender ideology. Now, how do we know this? Well, we know it in part because there is a manifesto and the manifesto is being withheld. It's being concealed. And in fact, I saw an article that LGBTQ activists are demanding that the manifesto not be released. In other words, that the motivation not be made clear. This allows outlets like CNN to go officials are still searching for the motivation. They actually know the motivation. They're just not telling us what it is. Now, the only honest it will headline about this episode is from the New York Post. I'm reading the headline, transgender killer targets Christian school, boom, says it right there. Identifies the victim, identifies the victim miser, who doesn't identify the ideology, but that is presumed behind it. And contrast this with the lying headline in Reuters. Which I'm going to read you now. Former Christian school student kills three children three staff in Nashville shooting. So the shooter is not identified as trans, but is identified as a former Christian school student. The assumption being that this is some intramural Christian dispute. The former student is upset with the school, there's probably some beef with the school's policies. And then I look at all these headlines, New York Times, Washington Post Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Tribune, pretty typical. 6 dead in shooting at Nashville school. They exclude the word transgender, they exclude the word. Christian.

"For the first time we had Paris club creditors, non Paris club critics has all come together. The private sector come together to agree on a debt restructuring. So that is a good outcome. But we come from work has been really slow. And we have other countries that need help. So we really pushing all creditors, including China, to step up further and come up with faster solutions. So there's ambient coming up. Is that the test on whether China is committed? I think it's a test for the common frameworks to see whether it can deliver. Thank you so much for joining us today. That was get up and ask. Of course, speaking to Bloomberg's francine LaCroix Gita the first deputy managing director at the International Monetary Fund and wasn't that an interesting conversation. She talked initially about after three rounds of downgrades for the IMF sort of outlook on global growth. She thinks that the next the next summary from the IMF won't be much different won't be significantly changed. So she was painting that as a good thing that global growth or bottom out this year and then that it will improve. She also talked about many other issues inflation China and more. Yes, well, on the U.S. debt ceiling, saying that it should not be something we are even second guessing at this stage. You know, I was giving it as measured as she kind of in her role at the IMF, of course, the frustration that's being felt around the potential for another clash over the death ceiling. Also, as regards the bank of Japan, of course, we've been hearing for the back of China and government this morning saying that BOJ has a complex decision to deal with as the risk of Japan inflation falling is high a word two on the debt relief deal two, of course that was something that was a really big deal to try and see how intellectuals could get together and try and relieve the debt, the debt, burden on developing countries after the pandemic. So interesting to hear Gita gopinath in the IMS thoughts on that as well. Yeah, so you heard that live here on Bloomberg radio all the top speakers at Davos and will continue to bring those to you including the false governor to Gallo he'll be joining francine alaqua a bit later on this hour. So we'll have that for you live too. Also they want to turn our attention to some earnings news out of the UK here, just this morning from curries. So overall, UK retailers got a bit of a Christmas boost despite the cost of living crisis and inflation hitting the volume of goods sold, the sort of key takeaway from the big retailers seem to be quite good for the festive season. Our curry says that its performance in the UK UK and Ireland continues to strengthen, but it says that it seemed further deterioration in international operations it sees full year adjusted pre-tax coming in at a 100 million pounds to a 125 million pounds. And I'm pleased to say that joining us now is the curry CEO Alex bow dock. Thank you so much, Alex for being with us. Really lovely to have you on the program. Just a fairly straightforward first question. How was the last quarter? Good morning. And as you've pointed out, the last quarter was rather different from the UK and the international. I mean, international has had a really tough peak trading period from some intense market pressures that we don't expect to be permanent, but which are certainly hurting. The UK, by contrast, as you've pointed out, continues to strengthen. We've seen profits up again. We've seen sales, resilient, we've seen gross margins increase again from a strategy that's visibly working and some outstanding cost discipline has all added up to an improving profit outlook. But of course that is offsetting a weaker international performance. How are inflationary pressures feeding into your results, though, are you still seeing rising costs? What's your kind of prognosis on fire inflation goes from here? Inflation affects us in a few different ways. I mean, first of all, there's the cogs inflation, the cost of what we sell. And by and large, we obviously we try and keep a lid on prices for our customers, but by and large, we're able to pass that through. Our own costs costs like energy and cost of people, both of which have substantially increased in recent months and years. We're able to offset through the 300 million pound plus cost reduction program that we're underway with and which we're nicely on track with. We'll make a 170 million of that cost reduction by the end of this financial year. So the biggest impact for us of inflation is an indirect one. It's the impact on consumer sentiment and consumer spending power. And that's obviously where we pay a lot of attention. Carrie's is an omnichannel retailer. You made a big push quite successfully into online, but you still have shops. Retailers have increasingly offered credit deals to drive sales, and more of your customers using your financing, how much of a concern is that as the UK may go into recession, potentially a deep recession. Well, you've touched on two things that make curries distinctive. And obviously, we pay a lot of attention to retail fundamentals, like range availability, price, and easy customer experience. But the two big things that make curries different and that

"And her partner is Kevin hall, nutrition and metabolism scientist for the national Institutes of health. Kevin hall, welcome to the stage. So our debate will go in three rounds and the first round will be opening statements by each debater in turn. They each get three minutes and up first to argue yes to the question should we eat more processed foods? We're gonna go first to Amy Webb again is joining us remotely. Amy, it's your turn. Thank you so much. Good morning, everyone. I'm so sorry I can't be there with you in person for this important debate. I'm on my last day of quarantine. I want to start by saying words matter. In the past few years, we've experienced mind warping, soul crushing amounts of change. You know, soul crushing amount of change in inflation, political upheaval, new, open discussions about gender and sexuality and a global pandemic that just won't seem to end. The amount of change at this level, it results in a massive amount of new data. And as a result of that, neurological overload. Our brains don't like all of this new data. Our brains, crave structure. They crave order. So we default to labels. Labels are what help us create order out of chaos to resolve the messiness. But labels obscure nuance and labels help to inflame cognitive biases if we've learned nothing over the past couple of years, we've seen this happen time and time again throughout all areas of our society. Labels validate our cherished beliefs, even if those beliefs are wrong. Labels help us find our tribes, which then amplify those cherished beliefs. And generate echo chambers from which it can be very challenging to escape. We forget that labels are constructs and that they leave little room for context and interpretation. Today, we're going to be talking about ultra processed or highly processed foods. And we need to be really careful about those labels because words matter. There's a labeling system in place called nova, was developed in Brazil. There are four categories. Group one refers to unprocessed natural foods. These are edible parts of plants and animals. The idea is we're cooking these things at home. We've sourced them locally in their wholesome. Group four foods. That's what we're talking about today. These are ultra processed. That sounds ominous, that label. These are packaged snacks. These are reconstituted meat products. These are frozen foods. These are what very much sounds like a demonic food group. When we talk about foods using these labels, our brains immediately make a valued judgment. Group four is irresponsible and unforgivable. But if we zoom out and challenge our cherished beliefs, that's why we're having this debate after all, there are three compelling reasons to say yes. The first has to do with classification. I've got whole grain bread in my kitchen. It's mostly seeds. I bought it in a store. Now, technically, this is classified as ultra processed. But it is full of great nutrients, it's low in fat, it's high in complex carbohydrates, athletes rely on this bread as a nutritious source of fool. This bread is contraband, according to this label. At the same grocery store, where I bought the bread, there's a bakery, and at that bakery, they make delicious brioche. That is from scratch that is minimally processed, and it's nutritionally void. It gives me a headache. It gives me stomach aches. There are other reasons to vote yes for this that have to do with interpretation and application, which we'll get into during the discussion and during the closing remarks. But I just want you to keep in mind that labels matter. If we think about processed foods and we can expand our definitions, of course we should vote, yes, for this resolution to vote no, it would be to deny us optionality. Thank you, Amy Webb

"Schwartz, the rookie third round pick out of Auburn, with his first NFL reception takes him down to the 22 year. Hard line. A 16 yard. First down, pick up for the brown. That's great throw by Baker Mayfield. He wrote to his left, and it looked like you know, you said Landry was going to his left. That's kind of where the chief's defense went, and he threw across the field. To find Schwartz for his first catch. That was up another big time throw by Baker and this drive with good speed out to the left down was converted three first downs in this opening. Dr Mayfield other center takes the snap. Give it a shove looking room on the left, strung out and dragged down by Mike Danna should be that was Girls moving was that boat out there was excuse me for a loss of a yard just talked about Bolton, and he made a terrific open field tackle. That time. He's got tremendous speed. He's not a big guy. He's only six ft. Tall about £230, but he's got great speed that That was Cleveland's signature play. They're running power to left, They pulled the right guard, White teller and normally they have a lot of success from that play Bolton ready and then he penetrated to make the tackle in the backfield clock down at 10 16 to go the first quarter rounds in their opening possession had it since the opening kickoff. They started their own 25 a field takes the snap on 2nd 11. Stating the pocket now forced to run to his right being chased by Bolton throws on the run toward the end zone over the head of in joke Ooh, and it lands in completed the back of the end zone. Joke who had a step punch of arias Ward Mayfield. Just overthrow Scramble drill. So, Baker. You know, the clock is in his head. The imaginary clock went off. He rolled to his right. And joker went deep, like on a scramble drill like you like to. I thought it was pretty good coverage on the plate. Take a perfect throw to complete that crowds facing a 3rd and 11. On their 23 of Kansas City faced just one third down on this drive. They convert it to the left of Mayfield was out of the gun, four down linemen. They're all coming may feel back to throw looking back to his right throws and a sliding grab is made at the 15 yard line by Hooper. But short of the first down, it's an eight yard pickup. Well, Jerry Sneed had the coverage. They're going to be about three yards short of the first down. They're not putting the field goal team on. They know when they play the Kansas City Chiefs when you're going up against patch from the homes, you need touchdowns and field goals. First big decision of the season for Kevin Stefanski on fourth and every bit of three yards to go for this situation. 11th player this drive 1/4 down and three after 15 of Kansas City. Mayfield in the shotgun with an empty backfield takes this Snap. Looking left fires a slant. It's caught a low sliding grant for a first down at the 10 Yard line Reception made by Austin Hooper. His third reception of this drive goes for five yards, and they convert a first and goal coming up here for Cleveland. They've had since the opening kickoff there down under nine minutes to go down in the first quarter. Well, that was.

"Mobile dot com and josh kind of mentioned it a couple of times here but the dolphins are finishing up their padded practices before they prepared to take a trip to chicago. Do a couple of practices with the bears and those are going to be exciting to say the least But with monday and tuesday. I believe both of them. Being off days this sunday practice is going to be the last little bit of information we receive until the dolphins make bad trip. So some of the more notable things we have to go back to the wide receivers because that seems to be the tightest most appealing competition. The dolphins have going. I and isaiah ford kirk mare and duquesne grant. Were all catching passes from two. On sunday josh. I think that's maybe the most frustrating thing about some unlike devante parker not being on the field. Someone like willful or not being on the field is not knowing exactly where these guys lined up the depth chart. Because i want to start with this josh. Do you think that devante parker and press or preston williams would either them not be in the starting lineup If opening day was next week. That's a good question. I mean i think press the williams would probably find that uphill battle. But i think you're right devante parker he would absolutely be you know solidified in there. Is that starting receiver but jake to your point. I mean does this. Not just i don't know about you. I'm trying not to fall into the same isaiah ford trap and education grant chat so every year. Because i mean i was i was one i liked isaiah ford in college and you know every time. He's cut brought back for gang gang. Whatever but he's out there making plays and again. We talked about that number twenty jersey. But how much this is. Just camp collins go up sky over top of byron jones. I don't know if you saw that ended it with a dunk. So i mean these are the type of things that i hope it's good to see and camper. It's bad you know. Mccown sky over byron jones. Your huge free agent acquisition. I mean i don't know jake but it's again iron sharpens iron. I guess yeah and you have to wonder. We haven't heard the elder wilson hypoc course. It could just be a couple days in these players working with jacoby presented the second team But i mean even foster wilson hearns. 'bout in junior these are guys. We haven't heard a lot about albert. Excuse me fuller was standing out there today. In sunday's practice. According to bear jackson of the miami herald he didn't have a sleeve or cast or anything covering his legs. So that suggested nothing serious and then moving on elder wilson was out of uniform on sunday with a compression sleeve on his leg but observing and not limping again. From barry jackson and devante parker was in red non contact jersey. So i don't really know what to make of this receiving core rate now josh. Because i don't know if kirk merit is really going to be someone who is going to be pushing for these roster spots despite you know here. We are on august eighth. And he's practicing with the. I don't know how much this is just again. The dolphins being extra cautious again. They're traveling they're basically going to have a scrimmage no these next two practices with the bears and then they go into that preseason games they don't know how much of this is just sitting some your starters but you mentioned we'll fall in the ceylon jake and he was at big signing this all season a lot of dolphin fans had high hopes for him. You don't really want to see that but then next to him was also jalen phillips. So i i kinda wanna talk about this jake like those were to play playmakers. They brought in not only on offense and then defense that they expected. You know to go out there and be able to make plays immediately. This team obviously not will fuller given his suspension but when he was brought in you know they signed him to that contract he was brought in to be opposite of devante. Parker bring that added element brunette speed. So when you see a player a first round pick like jalen phillips. I gotta dolphins drafted. We can get into what that means. They could've went najah hairs. They could want a whole different route there but the that he's on a silent on silent does that give you any reason to be concerned heading into the first week of preseason. I'm gonna go ahead and say i don't think it does josh. It's a slow process. I mean we're going to go back to the thing where we're talking about the madden rosters. Right if you were to launch mad today on opening day and compare that to the first day of the regular season i mean the roster is night and day how different they may look despite. You're not playing it one regular season game and you know willful is not even gonna be there for that first game. I think jalen phillips is someone you want to see him play short-term sure you wanna see him out there in practice. Be you know that guy that we read all the tweets about right. That's kind of why. The dolphins drafted this guy. He was the tweet guy you know at this workout. He looked incredible. Yada yada yada that type of stuff and you know. I'm definitely devaluing. How good he is a player because he's a very talented athlete here. But i think it's okay to be a little slower with these guys. I think we will see phillips out there come the second and third preseason games but we have to keep in mind to josh. It's a little bit of a different approach this year with there only being three preseason games. Yeah i completely agree with you. Jake and i think that's kind of the whole point. I was trying to get at. But you know i guess if it gets in preseason week two and three then we can start to get a little concern. Just read off a couple more of the tweets. You have here. I mean if if you guys are not falling travis. Wingfield the miami dolphins. You know i want to say he's their beat writer right wingfield. Nfl follow him. Because i mean he is literally giving you play by play analysis of training camp and again a lot of us join twitter for this very reason but he has to a double clutched on a quick slant fires row gets a hand on scheme grant catches affliction with one hand. We heard some of the other big plays going on at camp today. I believe jalen wall. You know everyone's saying what's up with a limp because you know you keep hearing. He's limping around. He's going out there. Making explosive plays but jake the biggest news that we had today in something that i don't even think we talked about yet but hunter along the miami dolphins rookie tight end was carved off the field. Today i know we talked about what that meant Drafting him what that meant. Maybe for the future of mike is sticky. But now when you look at that tight end unit when you saw it. It was a lot stronger than it was year ago. Losing hunter is a pretty big blown. It did sound like a serious injury. Unfortunately for the rookie tight end yet josh. One hundred percent rate in the car is usually the The you know the that's kind of a sign that he's gonna miss a lot of time but josh training camp. Maybe they're being safe. Maybe there's an opportunity he can come back and it's more of a scared or anything else but we can't really get an idea on that. I'm sure we'll talk about it after practice. Josh you have to think though that tight end was a big part of miami's game plan. And i don't think that's going to change too much going into the season. A tool has been connecting with durham. Smyth and adam shaheen a lot especially this weekend And we'll see seki start to get more involved as we start to get closer and closer again to opening week but josh i think you know hunter long with someone who i thought was going to have an interesting for the dolphins..

"This is a little bit taking some time here at the beginning in the show but i have to give a big shoutout today because today is my eldest sons tenth birthday. My oldest son. Gabriel is ten years old today. He is my middle child after children. He's the one in the middle. But he but i have to say he's my eldest son because i have a daughter and then two sons and he's turning ten and it's crazy because i always remembered with his birthday. That was my last day in what was supposed to be my life long career i took i had spent ten years for those of you know i'll share a little bit about myself. I actually i have a degree in physics and a minor in mathematics and also that i have a certificate for secondary education. Along with that is is what i went to college for and i loved physics. I love math. And they'll reason. I switched from math. Physics at the last minute before went to college is because physics was math with a purpose. So that was it. I still really love numbers as you can tell with the staff geeky but I wanted to go into teaching as much. Because i wanted to be coach. That's what i wanted to do. I wanted to coach. So i got a job right out of college and i was began teaching and coaching. I coached high school football and indoor and outdoor track. I did that for seven years and when my daughter was born what my last semester. I wasn't coaching. High school actually coached at the local college but when my daughter was born i took a leave of absence from coaching because she was born right before football season started and therefore i knew that i just wasn't. Luckily she was born early a little bit and would she have been born late. It would have been already when practices started so i took a year off from coaching. And then that ended up being two and then three and then when my son was born actually took a leave of absence from teaching and a semester turned into a year turned into to turn into three and now turned into ten which allows me to do behind the curtain. So happy birthday gabriel. I'm glad that i had a chance to To to to take my turn after my wife took a turn we were. And then i won the flip for the third child Of of of spending time with him when he was born and it turned into this which is fantastic. So now out here. I am talking to you all on a thursday morning. You're like that's enough dave. Let's talk steelers. Yes here's what's crazy. I'm reminiscent we're gonna be reminiscent even more. Because what we're gonna be talking about today is kendra green kendrick green. But we're not gonna be talking about kindergarten. We're gonna be talking about what kendrick bourne could be. Katie green is my choice to win the job. Day one of the twenty twenty one regular season in other words week. One starter at center for the steelers. I just think that he's the best option. I know a lot of people would be any. Bj finney is a backup. That's what he was with the steelers and when he left the steelers struggled to even be that anywhere else so to come in and think he's going to be an answer as a starter. I think putting too much on him. I like bj finney. I think he's a great person. I like him in the role that he's in. I just don't know that he's the guy that you want to turn to totally if he's got start for awhile until green is ready. That's what it needs to be. But it's not like i think. Bj fini's the long-term answer at the position. where i think kinder- green is so you're like well. What are you talking. so much about. Kinder- green kindergarten was the steelers third round. Pick this year. And i went to do an article this weekend. This didn't come from a question from a user. This came from a question that i ended up posing myself. I went to write an article this weekend as much as i started diving into it. Either send a message to jeff. And i'm like this article coming later. This has got to be static this week. This is absolutely crazy. What i found. I was just looking for a simple answer and it was not a simple answer. And you're you're gonna love this. My simple question. That i had thought was a simple answer was okay kendrick. Green third round pick. What if he starts week one and then starts week two and starts the whole season. Who was the last third round. Pick to do that for the steelers. Wow you want to talk about having the dive deep the depth this had to go. I started with twenty. Twenty and i was working backwards. Came and lets you see how it worked out. You probably already have in your mind. Oh it might have been so and so it could have been so and so. Let's get this answer. So twenty. Twenty alex smith week one. He wasn't a starter he didn't start until week. Twelve after by depre- got hurt. He played ten snaps his first game. He had one tackle. So that's what i'm looking at. You know how many snaps you played in week one. What kind of stats did you have. When did you really become a starter. That was alex meant the year. Before was the andre johnson. He played twenty four snaps which was thirty six percent of the offensive snaps for the steelers and he had three catches for twenty five yards. But he didn't actually get a what would be called a start until week three but he played all the time. So you like okay. We're getting there. But he didn't really play a significant portion of the snaps until much later in the season the other two thousand nine hundred third round pick justin lane. He didn't play a single defensive snaps his rookie year and he's yet to become starter. So that's just that was what was. He wasn't even active for week. One you're gonna find this being a theme if you go to two thousand eighteen. There was two third round picks there as well mason. Rudolph inactive wasn't act of the entire season. He didn't start until year two and he wouldn't even started at. It's ben roethlisberger got hurt then. The other third round pick was ju- core for he played seventeen snaps which was twenty percent of the steelers offensive snaps in week. One he didn't have any stats. He was offensive linemen and he technically started week. One that's correct chook. Sikora for started week one of his rookie year. You're like why only played twenty percent of the snaps. He was the jumbo tight end and the steelers opened their season.

They They're matriculating up to the PGA Tour. They stop with us and get a great education and then hopefully go out and Try to hang with some of the guys we have out there right now, like a Jordan speed there, Dylan for Telly or Jonathan Vegas. Thanks for taking the time. Vito here. Good luck tomorrow. Of course. Hokum. Tell us a little bit about like the Big three that are kind of duking it out up there. We got Texas, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. A lot of bad blood betwixt the two brothers from Oklahoma. And, of course, Texas in the mix is well, just how much juice here doesn't make this push towards the championship. I'll tell you. It's been incredible Covert year. Um we knew going out the beginning of this year that these three teams would like to be in the top five. Texas Tech is great teams. And so is Baylor. They're not having their best tournament. That doesn't mean they couldn't have a great round tomorrow. But I originally thought that all five of those teams would be a top 10 selection this year and It's proved out for the three of us were actually in the top five, along with Oklahoma's ranked number one and Depending on what poll. You're looking at Oklahoma State's either two or three and it'll be a challenge and and there's really There's great competition. All these kids know each other from the time they're junior golfers playing on the American Junior Golf Tour or the Texas Junior Golf Tour, and they're they're good friends, But I can tell you they When they when they step on the first tee. A third round pick. And quarterback Jared Goff. We're joined now by ESPN Lines reporter Michael Rothstein. Michael Thank you very much for joining us. Give us your initial thoughts on the deal. I think it's a good move for both sides. Matthew Stafford. It's a fresh start. It's going to go and immediate contender with Matthew Stafford to me. The Rann has become one of the better teams in the NFC because he's going to give them better quarterback play that Jared Goff did And he's also going a place that he's comfortable his family knows a little bit about Southern California did spend some time out there in the past. I believe they have a home out there. Even so, All of those things are great for Matthew Stafford for the Lions. This is a very big benefit, because what you're getting is two first round picks. In 2000 points. You're gonna first in 2021st dozen 23 our third rounder this year and you get Jerry golf back. And so Jared Goff did not look great. Last year. I think everybody understands that. But he did make the Pro Bowl twice in 2017 in 2000 and 18, and he is the former number one overall pick, and he still is a younger quarterbacks to this gives The Lions to me. Ah, year or two to evaluate Jared Goff. Maybe they see in this long term solution. Maybe they do not. They have options here, but they also have vast capital now extra draft capital in the next Redraft and there's one other thing with this When it comes to that draft capital. I think it was really smart of the Lions to not really worry about it. First round pick in 2021 because we all know due to Kobe Outings been different this year. Evaluation processes have been different this year. Now all of a sudden, in 24,023, where we all hope that things are back the dunmore semblance of normalcy. Erin Brad Holmes has his entire scouting system in which had won't necessarily be in place. Would be in place more on the fly this year that he had his entire system in. Plus, they could do better scouting for those extra first in 22 23. I know a lot of people were talking about what kind of return the Lions would get for Stafford. Of course, they were already talking about moving, Stafford. Maybe that affected leverage. What do you make of this return? Golf and the picks that they were able to receive, including the first round picks. I don't need to get home. I really do A. I spoke to a source that's familiar with the negotiations. And they said that the Lions had between seven and eight and seven and eight. Interested teams, all of whom were offering at least the first round picks. So there was obvious interest clear interest here for The Lions for their franchise quarterback, and my understanding is that this was the best offer that they had and the best haul that they could get. And yes, Jerrod on contract is probably the biggest albatross on all this. But again, young quarterback the rebuilding this team, So I think that's something you can manage. Because guess what if you don't Like what you see from Gerry Goff. You can eventually move on from him. And then that will open up more cap space for you at a time when you're looking to maybe add more free agent to get to a higher level of contention. 123 years from now, when the lines are hoping that they had built something sustainable for the first time. Oh, I don't know. Probably before you were, and I were born. Yeah. How only look back on the Matthew Stafford era in Detroit. As one that He basically did everything he could. And he was surrounded by poor running games and almost every season only at 1 1000 yard Russia in his decade plus in Detroit. Um, Dad. Offensive line play at times a defense on Lee at one really good season in 2014 and some questionable coaching as well, particularly the last three years with Matt Patricia. Effort home through all of it. Community guy. And he's a guy that will be missed in Detroit in a long time there whenever his career is over his name, and the number will go up in the lion's kind of ring of honor type thing. In fourth field, I would have met. I can't imagine it would not. Michael Rothstein joining us on the Goodyear hotline here on SportsCenter on that on ESPN Radio, Michael Thanks for joining us. "Oh, yeah, baby coming in hotter than stock at Gamestop. It is the Vince Quit show. We're back bay. They God, what a night. What a night to be in because you get a trade just a massive monster deal here, where Matthew Stafford is shipped over to the Rams. And man, this happened quick. You see, Dan Campbell comes out head coach the Lions. He's got a quote in an article. He's like, Yeah, the talks are hot and heavy, and it's like what Dan Campbell I have no idea what that really means The guys accountable, but You know, it was hot. It was heavy. So we got this big deal. There's a lot to dissect there. We'll figure out what Dodge Coin is. Maybe we'll just get all the current events in. Here's a fun one for yourself. Oh, this is this is fun. I had my first bris this week. It wasn't for me. It wasn't for me. It's a good thing that it wasn't for you. It wasn't for me. You'd be a little late for me, but I I attended a brisk for the first time. Kind of, you know, now, there might be some listeners out there that don't know what that is. Yes, Google it, But don't do an image search could explain on the air what it is. We'll talk about it. We'll get we'll get their way. Got four little delicate When you explain what that is, You gotta be delicate with the whole thing in general. That's true. Well, maybe it's not so delicate. Um, well, that no, that's delicate. That's why I was horrified. It was It was a trick. Matic experience. Imagine having that done to you at the advanced age. No, I don't know if you do they do that. Does that happen? I don't know. This is over to start the show. Let let us know if you are an adult that has gone through a bris. I don't think they do this. But if you've converted at an older age do they do a bris for an older person. 8552 would 24227. We're off to a great start. Really? Don't wanna think about that. No pictures, please s Oh, let's do this. Is, But let's talk about the deal here right because there's so many different things. When you're talking about quarterbacks getting traded like this. There's so many different elements to these deals to get into for each team. What it means for the league. There's the dish on Watson element, of course. And what does this mean for him? What does his value look like? So? So let's start going through all of the big, confusing, crazy mess that is Matthew Stafford getting swamped. For Jared Golf, and And Here's the first thing that I really take away from this. Is This is a hell of an indictment on Jared Golf. Okay, This is a bad look. Because you have to think of the circumstances around this and for a franchise to give up on a quarterback that's younger. That has gotten them to a Super Bowl. But they did give a big contract to recently. For them to give away this guy and for the way that they did it. Because you look at the package and you might say, Well, Matthew Stafford for Jared Goff. Okay, uh, Stafford's probably better than golf. I don't know if if that's such a great deal, but I want to get rid of that. Jared got fine, but but here's the thing. It's not just Matthew Stafford For Jared Goff. There's a third round pick this year. There's a first round pick from the Rams next year. There's a first round pick from the Rams the year after that. Because the Rams live in some world were first round picks are not valuable or useful or something they're interested in. So they said, Yeah, you know, this is the Dodge Coin. There we go. See, now we're really working it in this the Dodge coin of draft stock, and we're gonna move it. And and that's the thing the Rams had to add all of these draft picks in to get rid of Jared Guff. It's not just throwing all of this in to get Stafford. It's not that Stafford is so overwhelmingly good that he's worth a third end two first round picks, but Jared Goff with his contract is somebody that is not all that valuable. And so you're not just paying for Stafford, your paying the lions to take Jared Goff off of your hands. Which doesn't happen often. We don't see these kinds of deals, especially quarterback in the NFL. The last time this happened was what Brock Osweiler, which not exactly success story, so Looking at Jared Goff here for the Rams to do that. Here's the thing. That guy you think about this. Jared Goff just a couple of weeks ago wasn't like three weeks ago. He wanna play off game against the Seattle Seahawks with a broken thumb. He wasn't even did surgery on it. He wasn't supposed to use the backup in that game. He came in because the backup got hurt in the first couple of plays John Woolford. And God comes in, and he's not supposed to play. But he beat Seattle. They went 30 to 20. It's a nice story. You know, it's it's a big game. It's a big win. So that guy Just a couple of weeks later, they're paying another team to take him off of their hands. So that's a massive indictment. You've also got just the idea that organizations don't like giving up on quarterbacks, even when they're not great. Her cousins was getting towards the end of his deal. Grazed her cousins, right? Is he? Is he an amazing quarterback? Is he? Somebody could move on from? Absolutely you could totally move on from Kirk cousins. Well, Vikings didn't move on from Kirk Cousins. They decided to keep that guy because even if he's not amazing if you're letting a decent quarterback go, you don't always believe that you're gonna be able replace that. But the Rams were like, Yeah, Let's let's just give up everything. Just give up a bunch of stuff. And let's go and get Matthew Stafford. So for Shawn McVeigh, the guy who, you know, offensive mastermind or not, however, you wanna look at him. I think he's a pretty damn good coach. You look at Sean McVeigh and for him to look at golf and the guy that he's been paired with. It's his first head coaching gig. This the first quarterback. He's with its of marriage, right? Oh, what a lovely marriage and then it falls apart pretty quickly, and now he's out of town. That's an indictment. Right, so looking at the value of Jared Goff, and here's the interesting thing it It just seems to confirm what everybody's really felt about Jared Goff, Sometimes there's There's conversations that we have his fans right for people who've watched the game followed the game obsess about the game. And the way we talk about it and look at it is going to be different. Sometimes, then the league than insiders, you know they value the player differently, for whatever reason, they but they might. There might be a disconnect between what we see on the outside of what people see within the lake. This was a pretty strong indictment that we're all on the same page here. Jared Goff. Just isn't that good? And here's the other thing that we'll get to this more a little bit later, but Don't see him getting any better in Detroit. So if your Lions fan and by the way, if you're lions ban a Rams fan like especially it, I'll take calls from anybody If you want to get in to talk about this, But I would love to hear from some lions and Rams fans about this. I mean, how do you feel about these moves? 855 to 1 to 4 to 27 to tie joins show 855 to 1 to 4 to 27 because again the number one thing I've got from this is it's an indictment on Jared Guff, and part of it is, It's not that McVeigh. It's not just that McVeigh's giving up on him that they're doing it as the contract is kicking in that they're paying things. Get rid of him. But also Jared Goff is what the problem is really? And it's weird that it worked out this way. But the problem was the Super Bowl. Jared Goff getting to the Super Bowl and getting crushed the way he did. I mean, how bad was that Super Bowl? Right. That was That was the first time in my life like there's been games where it's been a blowout, and it hasn't been super entertaining. But you had moments and as the score is getting run up like the Seahawks dominated the Broncos like eight years ago, and that was fun for a half. That Super Bowl was awful, and part of it was golf was just shaky. He's up and down. You don't know exactly what you're going to get for a guy that's supposed to be the system quarterback. You want stability. You want consistency. You want reliability. When this guy's going to start you want to go?.
