A highlight from Preseason Begins & The Annual GM Survey

"This is the crossover NBA podcast Chris Mannix joined as I always am by Chris Herring and Rohan Nadkarni. Quick housekeeping note fellas the NBA preview issue is out I guess the basketball preview issue because there is a lot of college stuff in there as well but the cover is NBA Jimmy Butler guest editor for this NBA preview issue Rohan you spent some time with Jimmy Butler in parts unknown I assume South Florida did a a story with him it's excellent check that out I've got a piece on the Phoenix Suns spent some time talking to Matt Ishbia James Jones Frank Vogel key pieces of that organization trying to recreate exactly what happened after the season ended how they got this point where they have one of the most expensive teams in NBA history a lot of good stuff there scouting reports different elements as well make sure you pick up the magazine on stands right now. So fellas we've got the NBA GM survey that's out and I want to dive into some of the elements of that but before we start recording this podcast I was just going through social media looking up some clips and all that stuff and I came across one from the Pat Bev pod the Patrick Beverly pod he does with Barstool Sports I just want to play this clip for you because Pat Bev was joined by Michael Rubin the former owner of the Philadelphia 76ers now this still the CEO with fanatics someone who has a strong relationship with a lot of players including James Harden who they discussed in this clip here as a past NBA owner obviously you're close to the Sixers the situation that's going on with James Harden how would you handle it it wouldn't have happened you know first of all James is family to me and like I'm not going to hide about that I love James this thing is breaking my heart this thing was just not handled well he was playing with us in practice and boy he was cooking he was oh I'm talking about the pot was out and he was stirring that bitch up there's nobody who wants to win a championship more than James Harden I know this guy like my brother people give James a hard time because you know he likes to have fun it's bullshit like the guy the guy's work ethic for basketball is insane and his attitude has been great he's been leading he's been giving advice so you might hear all the bad shit you know TV from reporters that's not there but actually being a teammate that's there he's he's been phenomenal I block out the noises really same because I think a lot of people just don't know like the real James Harden how badly he wants to win I think he's in great not good shape he's in great shape yeah he's in great shape right that's right body looks great yeah every time I'm in the weight room he's in the weight room he's gonna ball out this year so herring I know my blood shouldn't boil when I hear stuff like this and I know it you know the podcast is doing its job if it gets me kind of drawn in and talking about it but to hear Michael Rubin say that James Harden wants to win a championship more than anyone at the same time that James Harden is trying to force his way off a championship contender that is a Rubik's Cube of nonsense that I'm really having a hard time wrapping my head around your thoughts on the propaganda emerging from the Pat Bev pod about James Harden I'm just trying to think of a stranger mashup than the one you just explained I mean the the whole universe of Michael Rubin and all the there's so many things lately that just on social media that I've wanted to mute and I don't think I know enough about how to do it I haven't taken the time to do it but if I had a way of muting like Michael that Rubin parties James Harden and any other number of athletes are at or like all these white parties and everything else it's like I would do that but that makes this element of this story this this framing odd because it's like okay well he presumably is friendly with James Harden or James Harden is friendly with him but also the fundamental standpoint now at this point that maybe there are people in the organization that instead of kind of just gloves off which it seemed like it would be based on what James Harden said about Daryl Morey earlier this summer that there's also the very real possibility that maybe he's not traded and so they need him to feel wanted and they need him to feel like they want him to perform well which is what you would want if you're a team that at least there's a you said in one of the last pockets we did it's not out of the realm of possibility that they could be a winner a contender a champion if everything fell right you know the right way so I think that's all this is is just positive reinforcement but I mean it's also silly from the standpoint that you're saying that clearly people that are making trade demands whether it's behind the scenes whether it's publicly whether it's saying my general manager my president is a liar it's hard to hold those two thoughts in the same time in your head that you know on the one hand he can say those things but also nobody wants it more than he does come on like I did I know it's just you know the first thing probably that popped into Ruben's mind but it's just silly Rowan I know you're you're a regular at these white parties but do you have a issue let me just first of all echo my esteemed colleague Chris herrings fatigue with Michael Rubin just this guy's everywhere all the time fanatics sucks I'll say it fanatics is not good wow let's start there I mean like kudos to Michael Rubin you know what he did getting involved with meat mill etc but like we could have left it at that listen I if I were James Harden I might be living my life a similar way I let me put it that way but there is now a what is it a preponderance of evidence that winning a championship is not necessarily number one on this guy's priority list just not only in terms of how he's carried himself this offseason but how he likes to carry himself during the season when he's staying in Miami or Vegas for an extra night I'm away from steam mates are flying separately etc that all that stuff's been reported I'm just I'm sick of the the Sixers offseason I'm sick of the Embiid hard in partnership I respect you Mannix for still holding out hope having faith you've always been kind of an optimist a wanderer a dream I died that's why I don't describe you but I'm just so over this it just well like you said I mean respect to that podcast we're here talking about it I love Pat Bev he's a good personality but like what are we doing here Michael Rubin who are you who are you fooling okay we are familiar with James Harden's game okay you're not fooling us game off the court specifically right like you you can't say James Harden is misunderstood or gets a bad rap when right he he forced his way out of Houston by throwing a multi -week temper tantrum he effectively quit on the Nets which forced them to make a when deal they probably didn't want to and now here he is trying to get out of Philadelphia after holding you know one of the worst holdouts in holdout history to stay away from the team it just the the I mean just trying to get us to believe that is just wild so you know we had to talk about it you know James Harden still officially member of the 76ers we'll see what happens as these preseason games go on and what they do with them but right now James Harden kind of between a rock and a hard place might have to play for Philadelphia this season so I want to talk in this episode about the GM survey which always provides good preseason material whenever it comes out and there were some interesting elements in this year's GM survey guys and I want to start with the championship prediction from the NBA GMs which turned into a two -way tie between the Boston Celtics and the Denver Nuggets Milwaukee coming into third place 23 % Phoenix 7 % they came in fourth in the LA Clippers finishing at 3 % last year the Bucks were the leader at 43 % Denver doesn't surprise me Denver has the core of that team back we've talked about this before I think they can expect some organic growth from Christian Brown I think Peyton Watson might be able to play they've some other guys on that roster that can take steps up by the way while we're speaking of the Nuggets condolences to Mike Malone's family for the passing of Brendan Malone his father that was revealed by the organization this week but when it comes to Denver on the floor I can see why they'd be a championship contender the Celtics I might be one of the few pessimists I don't know if I'm pessimistic about the South I have more questions about the Celtics than many people do my good friend Scalabrini was on TV recently and he said every GM would want this roster and I tend to agree with that sort of because if you could bubble wrap this roster and guarantee that it plays 65 to 70 games together and will be healthy going into the playoffs I think you're absolutely right I think the backcourt is really strong especially defensively Drew Holliday elite defender Derek White big time defender we know what Jalen Brown Jason Tatum can do you know that that that speaks for itself the front court is good right Chris has Porzingis good player Al Horford good player but Porzingis chronically injured right like he played what 60 -65 games last year but that was a contract year and I have less confidence he's going to be able to repeat that he was already injured this off season with whatever happened with his foot over in the World Cup Al Horford's 37 by design he's probably only going to play like 50 games this year because they want to keep him healthy for the playoffs so we don't know what's what Al Horford is going to look like at the end of this season after that what is there they signed Wennion Gabriel Wennion Gabriel last year played 68 games for the Lakers in the playoffs he played 10 he averaged 3 .7 minutes per game in the playoffs with the Lakers last year that is the definition of playable in the regular season and unplayable in the playoffs like it just is what it is Luke Cornette is still there he was unplayable for Boston in the playoffs last year you know this is a team that was already thin when Grant Williams was there now Grant Williams is gone and I don't know what they do if one of these two guys goes down for any length of time so that's a long way of saying like yeah I can buy the argument that the Celtics are the team to beat Eastern Conference I can buy the argument that they are a championship contender but Rohan I just I have a lot of concerns about what happens if anything goes south in that front court I agree I mean that's why I thought the holiday trade was so fascinating and why I wasn't sure how seriously to take Boston as a contender for holiday even though his name was obviously their name was obviously coming up that entire weekend before he was traded a huge reason why they've been been special the last few years is kind of the alchemy of their front court mix -in matching Horford, Rob Williams, and Grant Williams that's gone entirely I see people saying now Porzingis and Horford might start together this talks about does Derek White come off the bench there's a right that's another thing I don't understand I mean you don't you don't have a backup really for either guy right now why aren't they backing up each other that already is starting to not make a ton of sense for me the way I look at it Mannix is I do think we're starting to see some trickle -down effect of the second apron because you look at the top teams right now whether it's Milwaukee, Boston, Phoenix, Denver to an extent it's not that the championship teams of yesteryear were flawless but we're looking at teams that are especially top heavy these days and Boston doesn't have a lot of avenues to improve the roster same for Milwaukee I mean I think Milwaukee has a great five and uh Holliday, Conaton, Middleton, Giannis, and Lopez but then they have Bobby Portis and they have a bunch of question marks after that they don't have a lot of playoff rotation guys uh Phoenix is in a similar boat Denver I think you and I are probably high on Denver's bench than most people we like what we think Peyton Watkins can do Peyton Watson can do Zeke Najee Swarther had a nice pre -season debut but those are a bunch of question marks for them right now so on one hand I echo your skepticism about Boston only in terms of Horford's coming off the worst postseason of his career um I think on both ends of the floor and he's only getting older Porzingis he's played 10 playoff games in his life but when you match them up against kind of the other contenders unless you think like a team like the Lakers or Warriors who have a little bit more depth maybe not quite as much top and talent uh can make a push I understand why you'd put Boston there only because I think a lot of the contenders are really top heavy right now well I mean but the the front court like to get out of the Eastern Conference you gotta get through Milwaukee and Milwaukee's front court is still really strong they still have all the pieces that were in place they still got Giannis still got Brook Lopez still got Bobby Portis they've still got all the guys that have the potential to give Boston a lot of problems and I go back a couple of years and the Celtics back when they had Rob Williams and they had Grant Williams they were in the mix for Yaka Purdle when San Antonio was trying to deal him they wanted to get Purdle they didn't want to get two first -round draft picks back then but they knew back then when they had you know three you know strong front court guys that they needed one more to get through Milwaukee that was when they made the deal for Mike Mascala and he turned out to be unplayable in the playoffs as well so I have concerns about Boston's front court anything about the predictions hearing concern you or you know stand out to you whether it's the Celtics or somebody else I mean I can admit to the same thing you guys are saying that I was surprised that Boston was tied for first for just you know the team that GM's thought was the most likely to win the whole thing it's really hard for me to look at this roster without wincing just a little bit we all can acknowledge that there's a lot of top and talent in this team there was before the moves they made this summer there is now the Porzingis fit is interesting I think everybody can look at that and say wow that if this works out they can win a title obviously no one's denying that it's just to have him and Horford as your two centers and then Wendy and Gabriel who I really like but I don't think of as necessarily my second or third string center or you know if he's even a center he's like six nine or whatever he is so that's all it's just you know and look I've been critical of the Celtics from the standpoint of you're trading away a lot to get Porzingis if only you're talking about Marcus Smart from the standpoint of you know a backbone a heart and soul obviously a very versatile important defender within that cog that they have defensively so they go get Drew Holliday and I think it does kind of answer a lot of those questions a lot of those criticisms but I just I still wonder a little bit of if now you're doing that and in doing that you give away Robert Williams if it makes you thinner at the spot that I was most concerned about now you know it's center even when they had those three it was kind of a weird hodgepodge of guys that you're not for any reason you're not gonna feel comfortable about whether they can hold up and be healthy the whole year also stylistically if you're missing one of guys it changes the way your offense looks because two of them are guys that can shoot from three one is a guy that's kind of more around the rim and setting screens and stuff like that so anyway I was just a little bit surprised that as we're all acknowledging the potential thinness of this group that they would be a co -favorite here I think the Nuggets still deserve to be the favorite and I personally would probably take the Bucks over the Celtics as a favorite but but all that said you know I don't think there's a runaway team here after the Nuggets I would probably leave them at number one because there was a lot of other stuff that happened between the depth of the Lakers the top end stuff of the Celtics the top end stuff of the Bucks to me when I see that much stuff happening I'm just going to defer to the team that won last year that granted they did lose some things but they have the potential to get better with more continuity of the top end guys that they have that haven't been healthy up until last year so I would you know I was a little bit surprised to see that Boston pulled into a tie with Denver among the GMs well we as we know the Boston media mafia is working over time in these kinds of situations I'm kidding I know it was the GM survey one thing I want to throw out there is in a in kind of a funny twist like the Celtics have had the best Joel Embiid defender over the years in Al Horford and Horford was giving Embiid problems in the semis last year to the point where Tucker had to get in his face and be like bro you need to take this matchup but what does Boston do now in that matchup because if you're playing Horford against Embiid does that mean you're playing Porzingis and Horford together and which of your guards are you keeping off the floor does that mean you keep Derek White off the floor it's kind of an interesting problem they've created for themselves unless they're willing to live with Porzingis on Embiid but that kind of takes away one of the biggest strengths they've had in that matchup over the years yeah is it going to be a challenge for them because Horford has been excellent I mean Embiid he gives him so many problems he clearly has the timing down on Embiid like he does he knows yeah it's fat it's fantastic to watch he pushes him off his spots he's he's just got a lot of you know and maybe some of it's mental too like Embiid's seen him so many times over the years that it's like all right well Al Horford again and you know he's asked about every single postseason he's had great games against Horford don't get me wrong he's played really well at times but it is I have a little surprise guys that the team nobody's really in on the Suns yet seven percent seem a little low for me you know man look I understand maybe Herring you got to give this team time to figure itself out and see if these guys can play together and see if this mix of players can work but you know if that team gets the playoffs fully healthy hard to stop very hard to stop in the postseason no no question I mean you know I watched clips I watched bits of the the game that they played against the Pistons and granted it's the Pistons you know one of the youngest teams in the league but to watch the Suns who you know have just started playing together that you know have 80 points between the first and the third quarter of a road game road opener for preseason there's obviously a lot of potential there offensively I would say that as we talk the things we like and dislike about teams the thinness the depth of these rosters I'm a little bit surprised that the Suns haven't done a little bit more to go out and get a a bonafide point guard I think it's a big granted you have a lot of ball handling on that roster it's not to say you don't and top level guys that can do it but it's a big change to go from having Chris Paul be your point guard and even to have campaign be your backup point guard to then going and just saying we're you know we're going to kind of take the Clippers route to have our forwards handle the ball to have Devin Booker handle the ball again all guys that can do it but these are also guys that you like to just kind of throw in iso situations you don't want to wear them down the whole season of having them handle the ball so I they've added depth and I think they need that they obviously needed it last offseason or I'm sorry last postseason and so they've done well to add to that but I think that they still it would do them well to have even if it's you know I look at something like what the Bulls did they went and got Javon Carter someone that played for the Suns at one point the sort of guy that could really be helpful to this team I also wonder just a little bit just a little and I think I saw some of this in their first preseason game as well Yusuf Nurkic is an interesting fit I think he can do good things for them he's good you know as a playmaker here and there defensively I worry just a little bit about him of how big it seemed like he took in Portland and you know for all the problems Ayton has at times I wonder if he's more nimble defensively and would work better defensively with that team but we'll see we'll see what happens I think that the Suns absolutely could win it they absolutely have the talent and skill to do it I think they have you know a coach that I really like one of my favorites in league and Vogel but I definitely have some questions about them which is why again would still take Denver head and shoulders above everybody else for now I actually am a little bit surprised the Lakers didn't get more picks here as well in this in the survey I maybe would have liked the Suns more before the Nurkic trade I'm just I'm replaying that Denver series in my head and while Landry Shammet was getting a ton of open threes and theoretically that could be Bradley now I mean I look at them as even worse or you know more poorly equipped to slow down the Nuggets than they were last year and while we're on the subject of health I mean Durant you know he missed some time obviously he came back right before the start of the playoffs and looked great at times and I think bookers only continue to improve but I mean there's a health there's a health question mark hanging over them you know as long as Durant is there and I I need to see it I mean there's definitely some exciting moments just watching kind of Beale Booker and Durant take their turns in that preseason game and it's like oh man like they have three guys who can go just iso and get a score seemingly anytime they want but and I'm I'm warming to the Nurkic move more than when it first happened but I really need to see that defense in action for a little while before I can take them seriously as a title contender yeah I think you guys just articulated why they only got seven percent of the vote there's a lot of question marks out there about them until we see them actually come together and play all right we had Nicole Jokic picked up first place in two different categories and I want to talk about both of them first was the player most likely to win the 2023 -24 MVP he got 43 percent of the vote in that category Yanis at number two at 20 percent and then if you were starting a franchise today and could sign any player who would it be he got 33 percent of the vote in in that category Victor Webayama coming in second with 23 percent on the subject of MVP guys let's start there 43 percent of the vote I'm actually shocked it wasn't higher like I thought it would be like 70 percent because not look first he's 28 years old he's in his prime he's durable he's just won a championship he was you know the best player on the best team in the NBA there's no reason to believe he's not going to come in next year and put up comparable or this year put up comparable numbers and I do think that the people that were divided on Nicole Jokic last year are not going to be divided this year the people that were skeptics about his ability to win and use that against him when it came to MVP voting and use that as a reason to vote for Joel Embiid those people aren't going to exist or that feeling isn't going to exist if Nicole Jokic puts up MVP numbers on the guy on the team that is at or near the top of the western conference there is no doubt in my mind he is going to win MVP he is going to get deservedly I think every benefit of the doubt this year when it comes to MVP votes so whether it's you know Embiid, Giannis, Jason Tatum, Luka Doncic I think Jokic is going to get the benefit of the doubt there Herring I think he's going to be by far and away he is by far and away the front runner to win the MVP.

A highlight from The Mike and Mark Davis Daily Chat - 09/12/23

"This was an easy one. 1975 Elton John singing about the city of liberty, the city of freedom, the city of brotherly love. The light was shining on our buddy Mike Gallagher last night. City of a lot of traffic, oh boy. Did you just make it by the skittier teeth? Oh boy, oh boy. I said I can't wait to talk to my buddy Mark if I make it. And Mr. Uber driver, please go faster, please go faster. Memo to self, don't stay in Center City when you've got to go out to the radio station which is in, I don't know, Lafayette Hill or wherever the heck we are. A lot of traffic, a lot of construction and what a joyful night last night. A hundred, I mean it was like over 700 people at the Fuge which you would love. It's a NASA, you know, Center Fuge. It's a reference to the Center Fuge exhibit and stuff like that, yes. And they do like a venue. They've got an event venue there. This is the second or third time I've been out there and Lorenzo and the team here at 990 The Answer in Philadelphia do a fantastic job. Phil Boyce, our boss, the big boss, was the moderator. He does a fantastic job. And of course on stage, Dennis Prager, Pastor Robert Jeffress. Yeah, man. And he is so good. Man, Dr. Jeffress is so good when it comes to defining the battle of good and evil that we're witnessing. He also made a Trump reference. I've heard him say this now many times, we ain't considering a pastor for the competition. And he has been very, very loyal to President Trump, much to the chagrin of some within the evangelical community. And so we dealt with all of that faith and freedom and liberty and tyranny. The great Chris DeGaulle, the local host here who is so strong. Man, oh man. And boy, does he get a hero's welcome last night. This community loves him. So we just had a blast. It was a great night. I told the story about Mike Lindell, who I'm speaking to today, about the way they've targeted him. And much of it started with Mike after he said at the Rose Garden, hey, crack open your Bible and turn to God. They didn't like that. So it was just a great evening of conversation. Of course, lots of concern about Joe Biden, lots of debate and discussion about Joe Biden's dis, his snub, his refusal for the first time in either New York or, you know, Shanksville or DC. What a disgraceful. And, you know, they know what they're doing, Mark. They know what they're doing. Okay. What are they doing? Because I know my first answer. And for yesterday, all of yesterday, if there's anything I really tried to do, and I know you do too, it's to be as fair as possible, as accommodating as possible. So if I am going to come down hard on somebody, it's because I've internationally, you know, doddering around in Vietnam, tough to get back in time for 9 -11. So maybe that's bad planning. Tough to get back. I know. I know. It's the president. He's got Air Force One and get wherever he wants to get. Don't give me that crap. Believe you me, the test did not succeed because even under the harshest light of goodwill and grace and latitude, there is no excuse. He was with troops in Alaska. Anytime you're with troops, it's good. But 9 -11 is about three places, New York number one, not to rank them, obviously New York and obviously the Pentagon or Shanksville. You've got to be in one of those places and to fail to do so is conspicuous by its absence. So my answer to give it back to you is the reason they didn't do it is because they knew that it would have been as big an embarrassment as it was in Alaska where he made up crap again. And David said, Drucker well, Biden has been embellishing for a long time. Yeah, but that's when he knew what he was doing. Now I think Joe actually does believe that he was at ground zero the next day looking into the gaping maw of hell or whatever he said there among the smoke and the debris. He wasn't there. He was on the floor of the Senate. He is mentally unhinged. His White House knew it and that's why they knew they could not have him at any of the important 9 -11 sites. Well, two things. You know, first of all, I think there's a lot of wisdom to the argument that if he was at one of the 9 -11 events, the reception he would get inevitably would embarrass him. Have you seen - Reception? Reception? I'm talking about booing. Nobody's going to boo him on 9 -11. Yes, they are. Yes, they are. Don't underestimate the anger and rage the that people have towards this guy. I mean, look, already he's gotten - I mean, I saw it with my own eyes when, you know, I've seen the loving reception that Trump got when he was being arrested from people in the inner city and people lining the streets cheering him. Look at the reception. And you've seen Biden get booed at various events that he's attended. New Yorkers in particular are aggravated and anger. Listen, ask a 9 -11 family what they think of Biden shaking the hand of the Saudi potentate or whatever he is. You know? And you don't think Saudi Arabia was complicit in 9 -11? I mean, this is - And so, yeah, I think you're right, the reception. And number two, this man's a liar. This man will just flat out - And I want to see how they're going to spin this whopper that he was standing, looking through the gaping jaws of hell the day after on the - as George Bush was. George Bush stood on the pile. George Bush had that bullhorn and George Bush said, I hear you. And soon the people who took down these buildings are going to hear you. Biden's trying to, you know, take away Bush's real life experience. Stolen presidential valor. Exactly. Somebody else was there and he wasn't. And you're lying about it? You're saying I was there? I mean, I know people who do this. Listen, I don't want to mention names, but there are people, frankly, and they're kind of pitiful. They just want to live on 9 -11 infamy and they want to bang that drum and they want to puff up their chest and say, look at me, look at me, look at me. The true heroes are the - And there are people who are trying to rescue people or find people and they've had post 9 -11 sickness and illness and death.

Olympian Jeff Galloway Shares His Inspirational Journey

"Today we have an Olympian, and he's an athlete, he's a coach. We want to give a great big welcome to Jeff Galloway. Welcome to the show, Jeff. Great to be here, Carla. I am so honored to have you on the show. So I just hit a few of the highlights of you. Can you tell us a little bit more about you and how long you've been running and when you got started? Yes, I began running in 1958. I was entering the eighth grade at a school that required boys to go out for athletics after school. I had not done much of that, partly any of it, because during my first seven years of school, my father had been in the Navy and I had gone to 13 schools during those first seven years. We were constantly bouncing around and I never got involved in sports or physical fitness or whatever. I was overweight, lazy, and forced with reality. I fell in with a group of kids in my classes who were runners, mainly because they were funny, and they dragged me out during the winter for Winter Cross Country. Well, I just absolutely hated it at first because I was exhausted and I very quickly found that within 30 minutes after a very hard exhausting workout, I felt better in my head and in my spirit than I had ever felt. And the other thing was, having gone to 13 schools in seven years of classes, I found it very difficult in a new area to meet friends. As soon as I got with the Cross Country guys, I had instant friends. I had good friends and I found that true with any running group that I've ever been a part of. And so I set as my goal to be able to keep up with my teammates and it was very, very difficult. I did not show a lot of promise. It took me until my senior year to be able to qualify to get into the state championships in Georgia, and Georgia was not a very good state competitively. I just wasn't good and I went on to a small liberal arts school, an academic school that didn't even offer scholarships. But as fate would have it, in the class behind me, a fellow entered named Ambie Burfoot and two years later when I was a senior, we were joined by Bill Rogers. All three of us were there and we didn't get scholarships. They didn't have them. We were at an academic school for the academics. Senior year, Ambie won the Boston Marathon. It's the only time an undergraduate has won the Boston Marathon before or since. And of course, we know what Bill Rogers went on to do. And it was just a wonderful coincidence that has yielded long -term friendships between the three of us. As a matter of fact, I kept in touch on a number of issues with Bill Rogers just during the last week and talked to Ambie quite often. Went on to, after graduation, to go into the Navy because I had a low draft number. That was unfortunately where I was exposed to Agent Orange, which later on became an issue, and my heart attack that occurred two years ago. But I got out of the Navy in 1970 and set as my sights the possibility of qualifying to get into the Olympic trials. I was way away from that, but I gave myself goals every six months and pretty much hit them. But I still had a good ways to go, going just right before the Olympic trials. Went to the national championships. I needed a minute and a half PR in the 10K and I ran two minutes faster and qualified to get into the Olympic trials. And then as fate would have it, on the day of the trials, it was a really hot day and I had been training in Florida for the previous two years. I knew how to pace myself in the heat and went out in last place for the first mile and then people started coming back to me. So I passed them one after another. And with about two miles left, I realized that I was in third place and then very quickly into second place and qualified for the US Olympic team. A week later, I paced one of my teammates from the Florida Track Club through the marathon because he had been disqualified. During the last stretch of the 10K, my teammate Jack Batchelor was in third place and was passed by another runner who happened to be the son of the mayor of Eugene, Oregon, where the trials were being held. And of course the crowd was cheering him on. So John Anderson passes my buddy Jack about 30 yards from the finish line, but Jack was exhausted and he was weaving and he bumped John as John went by and an official disqualified Jack. I've never seen that before or since, but it happened then. Significance was that a week later if I had been able to qualify in the marathon, I would have dropped out of the 10K, but that was no longer possible because Jack wouldn't move up if I did that. So I paced him through and was having to cheer him on and be the lookout and keep the positive mantras going like crazy during the last five miles. We entered that stadium together and the crowd was on their feet. I can still remember how my ears were just pounding and so I paced Jack right to the finish line backed off so that he could be the official qualifier. And it was just a wonderful experience to help a teammate become an Olympian.

A highlight from 1379: Bitcoin Will Reach $400,000 Next Halving Epoch

"In today's show, we're going to be discussing Bitcoin analysts eyeing a V -shape Bitcoin price bounce as the RSI hits a five -year low. I'm also going to be sharing with you a new Bitcoin bull cycle metric, which bought them before 70 % gains. We'll also be discussing mysterious Bitcoin wallet becomes the third largest Bitcoin hodler in under three months, now at over $3 billion. We'll also be discussing the trader who nailed the 2018 Bitcoin price floor predicts the bear market bottom for crypto. I'll be breaking down his outlook. We'll also be discussing Guggenheim predicts a $400 ,000 Bitcoin price prediction, as well as Blockware. They share that the Bitcoin price can reach $400 ,000 during the next halving epoch. I'll be breaking this down for you. We'll also be taking a look at the overall crypto market, all this plus so much more in today's show. Yo, what's good, crypto fam? This is first and foremost, a video show. So if you want the full premium experience with video, visit my YouTube channel at Cryptonewsalerts .net. Again, that's Cryptonewsalerts .net. Welcome, everyone. Just joining us. This is podcast episode number thirteen hundred and seventy nine. I'm your host, JV. And today is August twenty second, twenty twenty three. And naturally, we have lots to cover. Unfortunately, the market is continuing on its downward spiral. We just broke that twenty six K resistance, as you can see here. And our market watch, we've got Bitcoin currently hovering just above twenty five thousand eight hundred dollars. We have Ether barely holding on to sixteen hundred. So the million dollar question becomes, how low will she go? And checking out CoinMarketCap .com, the crypto market cap barely holding on to that trillion dollar milestone, with about twenty eight billion in volume. In the past twenty four hours, we have the Bitcoin dominance at forty eight point four percent and the Ether dominance at eighteen point nine percent. And checking out the top one hundred crypto gainers for the past week, virtually nothing, and maybe just a handful, just a sea of losses, very unfortunate for the entire crypto market and checking out the crypto greed and fear index. Of course, we're still in fear today, rated to seventy eight. Last week was a fifty three neutral and last month a fifty four neutral as well. So there you have it. I mean, I've been taking advantage of this recent dip. I mean, sub twenty six thousand dollar Bitcoin seems like a bargain. If you're to ask me, let me know in that live chat. And now let's break down today's Bitcoin technical analysis and check out the charts and what is happening right now in the markets. Bitcoin stayed stubbornly anti trend today, August twenty second, as twenty six thousand became a magnet for the intraday Bitcoin price action. And again, we're just currently dropping right below it. And regarding the RSI readings, here's what someone had to share. At this stage, it feels like a game of chicken to see who is going to make the move to break the chop, according to material indicators. Now analyzing liquidity on the Binance order book, he also notes that a broad lack of liquidity, increasing the potential for a sharp move in either direction. Quitting the analysts here, the market is waiting to see if more bid or more ask liquidity is going to be attracted to the range. So far, we're seeing small amounts of bid liquidity ladder up from twenty thousand closer to the active trading zone, but no liquidity of any size new or moved has been stacked into the range, defending the price from the lower low. The implications were nonetheless potentially very serious for the bulls with the lower low apt to risk even a twenty thousand support going forward. Quitting the analysts again, needless to say, printing a lower low on this time frame has macro implications. Printing two lower lows would push the Bitcoin price to sub twenty thousand dollar levels. So a great question. How many of you are anticipating the Bitcoin price action dropping below twenty thousand? Let me know. Now zooming out, hope remain that Bitcoin can rescue its overall uptrend. So it's not all doom and gloom. In a dedicated video, we had crypto analyst Mikal van de Poppe shared that on the twelve hour time frames, the RSI measured less than nineteen at the time of writing near its lowest level since the twenty eighteen bear market bottom. Daily levels were similar, reaching their lowest since the March twenty twenty no vid crossmarket crash, quitting him here. Every time we see such a move, you get a sort of V shape recovery back up and it finds equilibrium on the higher floor. And he also added it was very likely that Bitcoin can stage a comeback to focus on twenty six five or more next as the outlines here in this chart. He also shared that the current Bitcoin price action reminds me of September twenty twenty absorption and slowly grind higher here for a while. And I can see this play out similarly. So there you have it. What are your thoughts? Do you feel we're likely to continue downwards, potentially sub twenty thousand or even touch in as low as twenty thousand? Or do you feel we're likely to continue climbing back up as the analysts on the ladder shared? Let me know your honest thoughts in the comments. Right down below. Now let's discuss a new bull cycle amongst us right now. Shall we check this out? The Bitcoin metric that nailed the pit of the twenty twenty two bear market says this uptrend is still intact. Let's go and a new post. The creator of on chain analytics platform looking to Bitcoin shared some good news in the form of Bitcoin's realized cap huddle waves metric. Let's go. While last week's 10 percent Bitcoin price dip has up ended some of the on chain landscape, the our huddle is one of the metrics taking the longer term view of what remains a timely bull market. This metric takes existing huddle waves data, which groups the Bitcoin supply when each coin or specifically the unspent transaction outputs last moved and waits it by the realized price. An example of the price at which it last move, quoting them here, peaks in younger age bands, highlights the periods where they have a proportionally higher realized value waiting relative to the older realized value age band, said Philip Swift. And he also shares this is important to note, as it indicates that the market is prepared to pay higher values for Bitcoin today and in recent times versus historical norms. This can be a good indicator that the market is becoming overheated. What are your thoughts now? Currently, the bands of coins that last moved three to six months ago are rising, a phenomenon coming to the start of the Bitcoin's previous bull markets. And on the topic of the August drawdown on Bitcoin Swift thus concluded that the recent price dip is the context of a much bigger bull trend, quoting him again here, three to six months band trending up as new money comes back into the market equals new bull cycle. Let's go. Now, our huddle has an impressive record when it comes to Bitcoin price phases. Back in December of last year, when Bitcoin was circling its two year lows of 15 six, which is the current market bottom, Swift used this metric to call the end of the euphoria among Bitcoin's speculative investor cohort, which he labels Taurus. He stated that that time that the market is likely now at these cycle lows, which means maximum risk reward opportunity, which I discussed in great detail yesterday. I said there's way more reward than risk currently in the market. And beginning in January of this year, Bitcoin began a new uptrend that delivered 70 percent gains just in quarter one. And since then, investor composition has changed with the short term huddler entities holding Bitcoin for one hundred and fifty five days or less, reducing their overall exposure to their lowest since November of twenty twenty one. And the latest dip nonetheless increased pressure on those remaining speculators, but almost 90 percent of the short term huddler coins now held at an unrealized loss. But I also like to point out that also the smart money, which are the whales, are continuing to accumulate. So even though the short term investors are the paper hands selling their Bitcoin potentially to BlackRock or MicroStrategy, whatever big corporate interests out there, the smart money is continuing to huddle. And as you know, we like to follow the smart money with that being shared, fam. Now let's discuss this new wallet, which came out of nowhere and has now accrued over three billion dollars worth of Bitcoin in less than three months. Who do you think owns this wallet? Well, let's look into it and discuss it, shall we? A mysterious Bitcoin wallet has surged up the ranks to become the third largest huddler of Bitcoin in the world in just over three months, with the timing sparking some wild theories about its owner. According to data from crypto statistics platform Bitinfo Charts, the wallet address first received Bitcoin on March 8th, and over the course of the next three months and two weeks, the wallet had accrued a staggering one hundred and eighteen thousand BTC worth over a billion dollars at today's current prices. Now, the rapid and significant accrual of Bitcoin within a single wallet addresses has attracted its fair share of conjecture naturally on X. Some users suggest it's most likely a crypto exchange moving their funds, while some more radical members have posted and more wild theories suggesting that Black Rock is the prime suspect. As shared here, this unknown address has accumulated over three billion dollars worth of Bitcoin in the last three months. The prime suspect, my first major transaction, which was thirty four hundred Bitcoin, occurred on May 16th, 2023, almost exactly one month later, on June 15th, when Black Rock filed for spot Bitcoin ETF. Now, very interesting, right? Now, the current largest Bitcoin wallets in the world, according to Bitinfo Charts, are reportedly owned by Binance and Bitfinex and are Bitcoin cold storage wallets. The unknown Bitcoin wallet comes in third place and is then followed by another Binance cold wallet in fourth place. Now, Black Rock made waves in the crypto market, as we know, June 15th, filing an application for the spot Bitcoin ETF product that, if accepted by the SEC, will be the first of its kind in the United States and completely change the game. Black Rock's applications sparked a wave of filings for similar spot products from a horde of other Wall Street heavyweights, including Fidelity, Invesco, Wisdom Tree and Valkyrie. The prospect of a spot Bitcoin ETF whipped crypto analysts into a frenzy, sharing their bullish predictions for the price of Bitcoin with Fundstrat's head of research, Tom Lee, suggesting that Bitcoin can reach a price of one hundred and fifty to one hundred and eighty thousand dollars per coin following the halving event scheduled to be in April 2024, which is now officially less than nine months out. What are your thoughts, though, fam? Let me know in the comments. And at the end of the show, I'll be reading everyone's comments out loud. Now let's discuss before we get into very bullish price targets, including this four hundred thousand dollar prediction, which is the main topic for the day. First, let's discuss where's the Bitcoin price likely to bottom out, according to this top analyst. Let's discuss it. The trader who accurately called Bitcoin's twenty eighteen bear market bottom is forecasting how the entire crypto market can carve a price floor for this cycle. Synonymous analyst Bluntz, what a username, love it, shared on social media X that he closely is looking at the total market cap of crypto, which is the total chart. Bluntz says he sees the total chart losing about 15 percent of its value before crypto assets can witness a significant bounce, quitting him here, looking at total paints, the clearest picture of them all and far more than looking at either ETH or BTC on their own based off the total chart. I do believe the June lows still need to be swept before calling bottoms, but it will probably be the last good buying opportunity of the next few years. So seize the moment, fam. And as you can see in this total crypto market chart, you can see we're currently sitting at just barely above one trillion. He sees us dropping before rising to one point four trillion dollars. So it appears that he expects the total market cap of all crypto to plummet to roughly eight hundred and eighty billion, wiping out one hundred and twenty billion off the current market. The analyst is a popular practitioner of the Elliott Wave theory, which we commonly cover here, an advanced technical analysis approach that attempts to predict the future price action by following crowd psychology that tends to manifest in waves. Bluntz says that his prediction is based on a model that outlines an asset's potential correction after a steep rally based, quoting him here, based off simple Elliott Wave model, viewing the rise from the lows as an impulsive move and our corrective wave from the highs being around 70 to 80 percent complete. Now, let me know if you agree or disagree with the crypto analyst. Do you think the crypto market cap needs to shed another one hundred and twenty billion before we rise back on up? Let me know your honest thoughts in the comments right down below. Now let's discuss Guggenheim's seven I'm sorry, four hundred thousand dollar price prediction. Scott Minard, who is their CIO. He originally made this prediction, I believe towards the end of twenty twenty one. Now, unfortunately, he has had a heart attack and he passed, so he's no longer with us. He literally died in December of last year. But nonetheless, he still made this prediction. So we're going to cover it and then we're going to discover the outline metrics from Blockware and their four hundred thousand prediction for the height of this cycle for the next halving reaching the epoch, which is also interesting because they're also suggesting a four hundred thousand dollar price action per coin. Then we'll dive into our live Q &A. So here we go. This was again, this article was dated, as you can see here, January 18th, twenty twenty one. So this is roughly just over two years ago. And at that time, Bitcoin was trading just above forty one thousand dollars. So here's the prediction coming from Scott Minard, from Guggenheim, a large, large asset manager. I think one thing that we are seeing is the sudden interest in retail. We are moving into a speculative frenzy and perhaps it's time to take some money off the table. Now, the debate around Minard's two opposite comments for Bitcoin sparked curiosity amongst the crypto community when he said time to take money off the table. And he also added on this tweet, it was before it became X, it was right Twitter. So he shared Bitcoin's parabolic rise is unsustainable in the near term, vulnerable to a setback. The target technical upside of thirty five thousand has been exceeded time to take some money off the table. And just at that time when he made that tweet, Bitcoin entered a strong correction. And over that time, Bitcoin tested support at thirty thousand twice before resuming back northwards and also talking about the positive side, back to the four hundred thousand price prediction. The Guggenheim CIO said that Bitcoin is becoming a favorable asset class slowly. That's right. And still remains positive on the Bitcoin price action for the long term, quitting him here. The other side of that is demonstrating that crypto is becoming much more mainstream. The four hundred thousand dollar price I talked about was based off the supply of gold in the world and crypto in a lot of ways is more attractive than gold. Let me know if you agree or disagree. I absolutely agree that Bitcoin is way more attractive than gold and comparing it to the yellow metal market. Minard said that Bitcoin comes with additional benefits like portability and ease of transactions. And note that Guggenheim Partners is already seeking five hundred million dollars worth of exposure to Bitcoin via the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust, which is the GBTC product, the largest HODLer Bitcoin in the world. They currently control over four hundred thousand BTC. So this will be a 10 percent exposure to Bitcoin from five billion Guggenheim's macro opportunities fund. The investment giant's proposed SEC filing shall become effective January 31st. And when asked Minard of if any of their funds have been allocated into Bitcoin, Minard hinted that they are still waiting for the SEC to approve their proposal. He added that if client demand picks up, they would possibly consider some allocations. And he also revealed that some small private Guggenheim funds have done some allocations, quoting him again, and some of our private funds, we have already purchased it. I recommended it to somebody. So if you believe what I said, that it'll go to four hundred thousand dollars per coin eventually, then two percent of your portfolio will be 20 percent before this is all over. So there you have it. Let me know if you agree or disagree with Scott Minard. And again, rest in peace. The dude had a heart attack at the end of last year and is no longer with us. And with that being shared now for our main story of the day, and that's the block where outline prediction of a four hundred thousand dollar Bitcoin price, along with the math to back it up. Now, this is pretty awesome. And again, shout out to everyone today in our live chat. I appreciate everyone's support. Shout out to Blockware Solutions as they shared on X how Bitcoin can reach four hundred thousand dollars per coin during the next halving epoch brought to you by Blockware Intelligence. Here we go. Twenty twenty four halving analysis, understanding the market cycles and opportunities created by the halving. Unlike other commodities, Bitcoin has a predetermined algorithmic supply schedule, which cannot be changed. There are multiple factors contributing to the cyclical nature of Bitcoin's price, including network adoption and the macroeconomic environment. But the most impactful is the mining subsidy halving. Yeah, that's right. Bitcoin's market cycles are unique due to its fully transparent block chain, providing market participants with more granular information than any other asset class. And moreover, the predictable supply schedule further impacts the psychology of market participants and example demand. So number one, halving's reduce the sell pressure. Miners are the primary force of sell pressure on the price of Bitcoin they receive, although the newly issued Bitcoin and the majority of which they must sell in order to fund operating expenses for their mining operations, the weakest miners on the network are eliminated and sell pressure is significantly reduced. The price of Bitcoin begins drifting up and a new wave of adoption then begins and assuming a thirty five thousand price action after the halving, the U .S. dollar value of Bitcoin mined per year can drop from eleven and a half billion to five point seven billion dollars. That is one hundred and sixty four thousand two hundred and fifty Bitcoin less mined every year, more than MicroStrategy's entire Bitcoin treasury. Now, after the inefficient miners capitulate, the profit margin increases for surviving miners, which further reduces the sell pressure. So based on the post capitulation hashrate estimate, this would result in a two point three billion dollar reduction in annual sell pressure from the miners. Now, number two, halving brings new demand with supply being diminished. Demand is the only remaining variable determining the market price of BTC. Many market participants understand the supply side dynamics at play due to the halvings. Historically, this has led to a surge in demand in the months following each halving, as evidenced by on chain data. We'll be checking out these charts in a little bit and do the positive sentiment market participants prepare to deploy capital at the first sign of upward momentum. Now decreased supply plus increased demand equals strong positive signal for the price appreciation. Number three, the halvings cannot be priced in. Despite their predictable nature, halvings cannot be fully priced in before they occur. A higher price today would result in more miners coming online, introducing additional sell pressure and limiting the price appreciation. And moreover, the weakest miners, those with old generation machines and or high operating costs, are the first to unplug post halving. The elimination of these miners significantly reduces the sell pressure as they were selling most of their Bitcoin to fund their operations. Lastly, there are some market participants that believe halvings are bad for the security of the Bitcoin network as the diminishing block subsidy reduces the amount of miners making Bitcoin more vulnerable to an attack. And when halving successfully occur, these doubters are proved wrong and positive sentiment increases. Now, number four, Bitcoin cycle volatility and historical performance. Bitcoin's extreme volatility is a side effect of its halving shocks and rapid global adoption, resulting in four distinct stages within each halving cycle. Stage one, the halving, stage two, the bull market, stage three, the bear market and then stage four, recovery. And while Bitcoin is often criticized for its extreme volatility on a long enough time horizon, its volatility is solely to the upside. Keep that in mind. Now, nobody who has ever bought Bitcoin and held it for more than five years is down on their purchase. That's worth repeating. Nobody who has ever bought Bitcoin and held it for more than five years is down on their purchase. So in a long term, how long is that? Holla in the live chat. And for each epoch, the price of Bitcoin has increased by the following amounts from the halving to the next bull market top from 2009 to 2011. We had a 584 X increase in price action from 2012 to 2015, 92 X from 2016 to 2019, 30 X and from 2020 to 2024, 7 .7 X. And now number five, diminishing returns may not be the case going forward. Some question the bullishness of these halvings as the stock of existing Bitcoin grows relative to the amount of new bitcoins being mine. This is a common perspective, but it may be incorrect. Less than 10 percent of the existing Bitcoin have moved in the last month. A large majority of Bitcoin is held by users unwilling to sell at today's price. Now, the small amount of bitcoins that is moving and being traded is what determines today's price. There is a baseline of demand and from Bitcoin are saving for the future. The reduction in sell pressure becomes more pronounced, each halving after Bitcoin more than doubles in price. This indicates that halving induced reductions in sell pressure could become more extreme and potentially lead to larger bull runs in the future. Now, 2024 will be the first halving where the supply of Bitcoin available for trade decreased since the previous halving. And during spring of 2020, the percentage of the outstanding Bitcoin available for trade was at an all time high, indicating the Bitcoin was over becoming more abundant. However, this trend had reversed over the last three and a half years. And as the new bull market begins, there will be less Bitcoin available than the previous cycles. The first halving this has ever occurred. And assuming the price of thirty five thousand at the date of the halving, a four hundred thousand dollar cycle top would break the trend of diminishing returns, which is a reasonable expectation due to the two billion having supply shock and increasing scarcity, a liquid BTC supply on the exchanges. Now, number six, juxtaposition with gold. Gold is an asset similar to Bitcoin and that they are both non -sovereign stores of value. However, when juxtaposed, Bitcoin poses far more desirable attributes. Facts. Number one, Bitcoin is absolutely scarce, while gold is only relatively scarce. That's true because with gold, you can continue mining a new supply, adding to the overall supply each and every year with Bitcoin. There could never be more than twenty one million Bitcoin. And number two, Bitcoin is more portable, divisible, fungible and is less vulnerable to rehypothecation by centralized custodians. Facts. So after the 2024 halving, the inflation rate of Bitcoin will fall under one percent, which is less than half that of gold. Now, four hundred thousand dollars per Bitcoin would put the market cap of Bitcoin just beneath the parity with gold. Let's go. Can't wait for a twelve trillion market cap for the king crypto personally. Now, given the bullish catalysts induced by the halving, we believe this is a fair estimate for the top of the coming Bitcoin cycle. Now let's take a look at some of these charts, which they shared. This first one shows you the Bitcoin price issuance with the 90 day moving 90 day change issuance. And you can see, you know, the different metrics here in the different colors. And then let's go to their next chart here. It shows you entities net growth with a 30 day moving average. You can see the surge in demand and just continuing to move on up like clockwork. And then in this final chart here, we can see the Bitcoin price all time highs for each cycle, which is separated, which you can see here. Yes. So, I mean, if history doesn't repeat, oftentimes it shall rhyme. So I cannot wait. And I'd personally love to see a four hundred thousand dollar price action. And this shows you the hash rate, which just continues to climb, reaching all time highs, making the Bitcoin network more secure than it's ever been before. And they also shared an interesting update, which I might as well read that as well right here. Part two. Let's read a touch of this and then we'll dive into our live Q &A. What machine and electricity rate will Bitcoin miners need to survive this twenty twenty four halving? Check it out. There are three distinct phases in the time before, during and after the twenty twenty four Bitcoin halving. We've got number one, the pre halving, number two, the post halving and number three, post capitulation. Number one, the pre halving before the twenty twenty four halving, all miners will be operating at a profit but are likely selling at least enough Bitcoin to cover their operation expenses. Miners with the most efficient machines and the lowest energy rates have the lowest Bitcoin breakeven prices. And the miners with higher breakeven prices are either unprofitable or forced to sell at a higher percentage of the Bitcoin that they mine in order to cover their operating expenses. And also it includes what's minor and Avalon equivalents, which are size adjusted for the percentage of the total network hash rate. Now let's discuss the post halving after the twenty twenty four halving. Many miners will become unprofitable since miners have already made significant capital expenditures for mining Bitcoin infrastructure and are locked into energy contracts. They are unlikely to turn off immediately. So instead, they will try to continue operating for as long as possible, hoping the Bitcoin increases enough to make them profitable again. Now, unless Bitcoin price appreciates quickly, the extreme margin compression will begin to force inefficient miners offline. And number three, the post capitulation following the capitulation of inefficient miners difficulty will adjust down, lowering the breakeven prices for surviving miners who will become even more profitable. So there you have it. I mean, shout out again to Blockware. Awesome analysis on their outline of the Bitcoin price going to four hundred thousand dollars per coin at the epoch of the next halving, which again is right around the corner next year. Let me know if you agree or disagree in the comments right down below. A highlight from Why A Pro-Bitcoin, Anti-Central Bank Economist Just Won Argentinas Presidential Primary

"Alex Krueger, who I frequently quote, who is himself from Argentina, said, Mille is neither good nor bad. He is different. And for Argentina, different means good. Welcome back to The Breakdown with me, NLW. It's a daily podcast on macro, bitcoin, and the big picture power shifts remaking our world. What's going on, guys? It is Tuesday, August 15th, and today we are talking about the Argentinian presidential candidate who is a pro bitcoin candidate. Before we get into that, however, if you are enjoying The Breakdown, please go subscribe to it, give it a rating, give it a review. Or if you want to dive deeper into the conversation, come join us on the Breakers Discord. You can find a link in the show notes or go to bit .ly slash breakdown pod. Hello friends, welcome back. If you have been on bitcoin twitter in the last day or so, you've probably seen someone talking about the pro bitcoin Argentinian presidential candidate that just won a primary election. As a representative tweet, Marty Bent said, Argentina electing an anarcho capitalist president and embracing bitcoin would be pretty epic, especially when the world sees how quickly they recover from a multi -decade bout of fiat -induced economic mismanagement. This is indeed a really interesting development. However, it can be very easy, all too easy, frankly, for bitcoiners or crypto advocates to get so excited about a politician from somewhere else sharing our views on those particular topics that we fail A, to see the politician for their full set of policies and beliefs, or B, fail to put it in the context of what's actually happening in the place that politician has emerged. I think both of those things are extremely important and so today what we're going to do is just a little bit a very, very superficial background on Argentina, its recent economic turmoil, and of course the candidate in question, Javier Millet. So first let's talk about what actually happened. On Monday night there was a shock election result when libertarian congressman Javier Millet secured a victory in the presidential primaries with 30 .1 % of the vote. Millet came in ahead of pro -business center -right candidate Patricia Bulrich, who garnered 28 .3 % of the votes, as well as the candidate from the incumbent center left government Sergio Masa, who got 27 .2 % of the vote. Masa is the current minister of economy and is a party member of the Renewal Front, a part of the ruling coalition of democratic socialist parties. To get a sense of why people around the world are talking about this, economics professor Lawrence White wrote, 30 % in the first round for a candidate who wants to abolish the central bank and dollar rise. Remarkable and encouraging whatever disagreements I may have with Millet on other issues. So who is Javier Millet? Well, he's a relative newcomer to Argentine politics. He was a founding figure in the libertarian coalition, which was formed in 2018. The party's power base is centered on the capital of Buenos Aires, but they are far from a dominant political faction. The party had a glimmer of success during the 2021 elections, obtaining a parliamentary seat for Millet. Overall, the libertarian coalition holds only four seats in the 257 seat lower house and none in the senate. One of the things this could mean that if Millet is successful in the final round of presidential elections to be held in late October, he might need to form an alliance with the center -right opposition in order to pass legislation. Before turning his attention to politics, Millet had a two -decade long career as a professor of economics. He is firmly of the Austrian school, believing in hard money principles. He has been highly critical of the university of Buenos Aires, which he views as being responsible for the, quote, proliferation of Keynesian brutes. Outside of economics, he is extremely socially conservative. He's put forward opinions, for example, around the extreme restriction of abortion, unrestricted civilian access to firearms, and climate change denial. Now, one of the things that you'll note if you've spent any time with Western press characterizations of Millet is that he gets compared to other right -wing populists like Trump and Bolsonaro quite a bit. In fact, most of the American coverage of him includes some phrase like Trump -loving or Trump -admiring literally in the title of the article. What's important to note is that his political communication is significantly more focused on politics. Indeed, his election campaign has centered on the economics of Argentina. During rallies, he has called for a massive reduction of government spending, formal dollarization, and the abolition of the central bank. He's also come out as a fierce advocate for Bitcoin as an answer to the control imposed by central banks over the money supply. However, before we go deeper into the Bitcoin dimension of this story, let's talk a little bit about the larger context. The Wall Street Journal characterized Millet's victory as a middle -class revolt, and it's pretty hard to argue with that point. Millet outperformed both the center -right opposition candidate as well as the center -left candidate from the incumbent government. Indeed, his victory in this preliminary stage of the elections is being viewed as a rejection of career politicians and the ruling class in Argentina. Current ruling party is part of a coalition of Peronist democratic socialist parties which have carried forward the political ideals of post -World War II president Juan Perón. While obviously the political history of an entire country is way, way out of depth for this show, at a very high Wikipedia -style level, Peronist presidents have been successfully elected in 10 of the last 13 elections in which they have been allowed to run, and so in that way definitely represent the entrenched incumbents in Argentina. Their ideology features things like nationalization of industry, strong government -supported labor unionization, and a hefty dose of social welfare. However, this ideology has been increasingly on the outs over recent years. For example, between 2015 and 2019, Mauricio Macri from the opposing center -right party, the Republican proposal held the presidency. In 2021, the Peronist coalition lost their majority in the Senate for the first time in 40 years, leaving the party impotent to pass legislation in their own right. Now, Mille's surprise victory on Monday could represent the final collapse of power for both of the major political coalitions in Argentina. Pre -election polling had the Dark Horse candidate finishing in third place behind the more established party figures, but was obviously way off. Now, part of why there has been such a political shift is that Argentina is going on 25 years of economic dysfunction. Starting in 1998, a string of global economic shocks led to a three -year depression punctuated by a sovereign default in 2001. In that period between 1998 and 2002, the Argentine economy contracted by 28 percent. Because of that, the nation turned to the IMF for debt restructuring to deal with an exponentially growing pile of dollar -denominated debt. After 2023, growth did return. Both unemployment and the 2008 global recession with its growth intact, but the economy sputtered out again in 2013, and since then, Argentina has experienced five recessions in the past 10 years. Now, things arguably took a turn for the worst after the change of government to the longtime opposition in 2015. By the second half of that year, inflation hit 30 percent, and the Argentine peso was cut in half to an exchange rate of 30 pesos per U .S. dollar. The central bank responded by hiking interest rates to 45 percent and draining its foreign currency reserves to bolster the collapsing peso. Inflation never came back down significantly below 40 percent prior to the pandemic, and the peso continued to devalue year after year. In 2019, power transitioned back to the dominant center -left coalition, and capital controls were put in place. Citizens could no longer freely exchange their pesos for dollars. In this environment, the central bank sets an official fixed exchange rate, at which individuals are only allowed to exchange $200 per month without paying punitive taxes. In spite of that official rate, however, the nation functions as a semi -dollarized state with citizens exchanging currency at a free market rate known as the blue dollar. This exchange in physical dollar bills is illegal but generally not enforced, as anyone who has visited BA knows. Alongside the blue dollar rate, there are a range of other exchange rates designed to act as either a subsidy or a tax on certain import and export industries. Most notably is the agricultural or soy dollar rate, which was introduced last year. The soy dollar rate was intended to offer farmers a more favorable exchange rate after they began to stockpile their crops rather than participate in economically critical export markets, however still had the problem of not being the actual rate that dollars were fetching on the blue markets. Now fascinatingly, on Monday, as it became clear that Miele had outperformed his rivals at the polls, the government announced another adjustment to the official exchange rate. The peso was devalued by 18 percent to trade at 350 pesos per dollar. Blue dollar rates also shifted by more than 14 percent and now sit at 675 pesos per dollar. That is a new all -time low for the Argentinian currency. Alongside the devaluation, the central bank hiked its key interest rate by 21 percentage points to reach 118 percent. Inflation is now firmly above 100 percent per year, and there doesn't appear to be an easy way to stabilize the currency or the economy. Now the devaluation is being blamed on an economic meltdown in reaction to the election. Alejo Costa, the chief Argentinian strategist at BtG Pakchual and BA, said investors like Miele's economic message but fear the execution and institutional risk considering his lack of power in congress and aggressive style. Now one concern is that Miele or any other president will have their work cut out for them. Claudia Kalich, the head of emerging market debt at MNG Investments, said that whoever is in charge by the end of the year will need to begin unwinding unsustainable policies. And ultimately this is what makes Miele's success at the polls start to make more sense. The core pillars of Miele's proposed economic reforms are to formally dollarize the economy and slash government spending to the bone. Given that the people of Argentina have seen their peso savings slashed by two -thirds in just the past year, the message appears to be resonating. So at this point let's start to bring crypto back into this story. Argentina is a place that has embraced crypto for some time now. In fact, I've often told this story on other podcasts, but in early 2019 I actually brought my father -in -law to BA for a couple day trip where we effectively just hung out with people who were working in the crypto space and that's where it really clicked for him. It was soon after that trip that he made his first bitcoin investments, which by the way, if you look at what bitcoin was priced at at the time, was a pretty damn good time to get in. Now back to Argentina itself, local laws allow for up to 20 % of wages in kind, which some workers have used to receive part of their salary in crypto. That has represented a significant boost for global workers who otherwise would have had US dollar payments automatically converted into pesos with the banking system. According to International Payroll Company Deal, Argentina has more workers getting paid in crypto than any other nation in the world. Now a big part of the adoption in Argentina is around stablecoins. This makes sense given how dollarized the economy is. Many blue dollar exchange offices now accept and distribute stablecoins and their use in the economy as a payment method is also increasing. Several major banks even began offering crypto services in recent years. Now perhaps because of all of this, the amplified adoption of crypto in Argentina has alarmed the IMF. Since 2020, the government has been seeking IMF assistance in restructuring its debt, but negotiations have been painfully difficult. The IMF has insisted on a range of economic reforms and austerity measures, but a lack of a parliamentary majority made it difficult for the government to make a firm commitment. In March 2022, the government signed a letter of intent with the IMF on a loan of $45 billion and one of the terms of the agreement was that central bank would discourage the adoption of crypto in Argentina in order to quell money laundering, informality, and disintermediation. This was, of course, the IMF's very own Operation Chokepoint Argentina and despite there being no formal policy, multiple major banks suddenly shut down their crypto services. Now $5 .4 billion of the IMF loan was distributed to Argentina earlier this year, but with elections and potentially a change in government coming, it's not clear when the balance of the loan will be paid out. For many citizens, the current government has used the central bank to pursue a failed policy of currency controls and sky -high interest rates. And in spite of all of that, inflation is still above 100 % and shows no signs of slowing down. Is it at all surprising then, that Argentinian citizens are attracted to a politician who pledges to burn down the central bank? Now, several months ago, when Mille was enjoying a groundswell of support, he made an appearance on national TV to put forward his economic positions. In that interview, he was asked specifically about his views on Bitcoin and what its adoption could mean for Argentina. Mille answered, and of course, all of these quotes are translated from Spanish. The first thing we have to understand is that the central bank is a scam. It is a mechanism by which politicians cheat the good people with the inflation tax. What Bitcoin is representing is the return of money to its original creator, the private sector. Money is a private invention. In order to be used to solve problems, for example, in a bartering economy, the double coincidence of wants and indivisibility. Then paper money appears in order to solve portability. And then that evolved and the currencies that people chose were silver for small transactions and gold for bigger ones. Then, because back then it was very dangerous to move the gold, people used to deposit the gold and get in exchange a receipt. Then in the year 1445, in the first Genovese Congress, the states appropriated the exclusivity to issue the money. That's the legal tender, which is a key point. Because legal tender allows the politician to scam you with the inflationary tax. Bitcoin has an algorithm that one day it will reach a certain amount and there is no more. It can compete with other currencies. In fact, it competes with Ethereum and others. And what is the good thing? It's the return of private money. But what is the problem? The problem is that governments will not give up the legal tender because with legal tender they can scam you with the inflationary tax. Bitcoin is the natural reaction against the central bank scammers and to make the money private again. The flip side is that the thieving politicians are not going to allow you to go against legal tender. In economies with high inflation, the scam problem is bigger. That's why, as I suggest, you can propose to close the central bank.

Vivek, welcome back. It's good to see you again Good to see you. How are you? I'm great now. I've already told the audience we chatted on Friday You did not want a pre -interview. I want people to know that but I always talk to candidates so that they're not ambushed by me We had a good conversation This is a national security interview Let me begin by saying you're going to the Nixon library on Friday And you're Belinda to give a speech about national security. Why did you pick my favorite presidential library? Well, I think it would commemorated my foreign policy vision Hugh I'm actually gonna really reorient our foreign policy away from the model of liberal hegemony Back to a model of actual I would say protection of the homeland a modern Monroe doctrine But a big part of my strategy is to pull Russia out of its military alliance with China Russia China together outmatched the US in every area of major competition Hypersonic missile capabilities ahead of that of the US a larger nuclear stockpile in Russia's case Naval capabilities in many ways that exceed ours in China's I know that's something we can debate but together they outmatched the US And so what I want to do is the reverse maneuver of what Nixon did in 1972 what did Nixon do he pulled Mao Zedong out of Bresin have led USSR's hands right now I believe Putin is like the new Mao. Did we trust Mao then? No, we did not should we trust Putin now? No, we do not but we can trust each of them not to actually follow their own self -interest And so that's how I plan to end the Ukraine war Do a deal that yes does give Putin concessions but in return for requiring Vladimir Putin to exit his military partnership with China and there are echoes of Nixon's diplomacy in 1972 that I thought the best place to do this was actually at the Nixon presidential library itself And so we'll be going into far greater depth Hugh But that just gives you a sense for why we chose that as the location to do it Well, we can go into great depth here because we're not rushed and I don't want to rush We're gonna play what we don't play on the air today tomorrow on the program so we don't have to rush I want to ask though You're you're going out to Nixon land in Yorba Linda as we approach the 50th anniversary of what I think is Richard Nixon's greatest foreign policy accomplishment The Yom Kippur war is that something with which you're familiar and how he acted there? I Am though that was not part of the inspiration for my actual going to the Nixon library was more the Reverse maneuver with respect to China. That's my case when Israel was on the ropes in 1973 Nixon said send everything that can fly We didn't have a treaty obligation to do so But he did and he saved them from the invasion by the Syrians the Jordanians and the Egyptians How is that different from sending everything that can fly not men not soldiers not women not Marines But weaponry is what Nixon sent to Israel in 73 50 years ago I gather you want to cut that off to Ukraine now if Putin will do a deal.

I hope you guys had a great weekend. First thing that's up, there is a libertarian candidate in Argentina that is leading in the polls. You would have imagined in Argentina's presidential primaries, libertarian candidate Javier Millet took first place. Defying pre -election predictions that placed him in third place. And here's an interesting quote from this cat. He goes, the central bank is a scam. It's a mechanism by which politicians cheat people with the inflationary tax. Bitcoin is the natural reaction against central bank scammers. All right. So what do you think? Is this guy legit or is he just another? We can't trust him because he's a politician guy. Is this the guy that's currently shadow banned? I don't know. Is he shadow banned? It's hard to say when it's someone in a different culture, on a different continent, in a different country, that that's just difficult to surmise. Did anybody have any thoughts? Go ahead, Michelle. Good morning. Good morning, guys. I don't have any personal thoughts, but I will say that we have several developers in my office from there and they are all super, super excited. So just a note. It's cool. Like it's yet to be seen, right? It's like, watch what they do, not what they say. However, I mean, that's pretty vocal. The central bank is a scam and it's used by politicians to cheat people. Yeah, I mean, you're setting yourself up for self -destruction if you say something like that and then you go in and you do something else. I don't know. I suppose it's what any of them have done, but dang, it's pretty strong. At least they're coming from a place where the currency has been, has been completely devalued, what, three times it's been completely turned upside down? It's, has it? I feel like it's been more than that. I think it's three times. I think I've heard stories of people who have had built wealth and then had it destroyed by the, by the inflating currency. Let's figure out the exact number. We have a lot of smart people up here. Somebody who has access to Google and is not, doesn't have broken fingers. Let's figure it out. How many times has Argentina hyperinflated? It's been a lot, I think. I think it's four. What does it mean to hyperinflate multiple times? Like, are you saying like it goes through a bout of hyperinflation, then it subsides and then it goes through another one? Yeah, the currency actually hyperinflates, then collapses. They reset the currency, then it does it again. Too many times. The guys at my group chat are saying that it's four. All right. I feel like one time should be enough, right? Like if you have a hyperinflation one time, you would think the people would be like, yo, this system sucks. Let's do something different. Well, I mean, they did, which is why nobody ever saves in Argentinian pesos, right? Like no one does that anymore. And they all know that it's a shit system, which is probably why it's hyperinflating again over and over because no one actually believes in it. That's a fair point because confidence is a critical component of the stability of a currency, right? And if the people inherently just think it's garbage, then that would, that makes some sense. Wikipedia says since 1816, it's defaulted on its debt nine times. How many times has the United States defaulted on its debt? I don't know. It depends how you define default. Yeah, probably zero, according to Wikipedia. I did the, uh, shadow band tester and yeah, his account is, uh, it's not shadow band, but he's not showing up in searches. If you look for him, apparently what's the shadow band tester. Oh, you haven't been shadow banned yet. Peter doesn't believe that's a thing. He thinks they're all nice. But now what is that word? Benevolent third benevolent people. They don't do things like that. As a well -worn battle scarred, uh, survivor of multiple shadow bands over the years. Let me tell you that it does exist, Peter. I never said it didn't exist. That was Alex putting words in my mouth, trying to trigger me as usual. But I do something like that. Come on, Lynn. Good morning. How are you doing? Can I hear you? Don't know what's going on with that. So Lynn Alden tweeted out that she went, she's heading back to Egypt for the rest of the summer. Different line by the way. Oh yeah. Sorry. My bad. Thank you for clarifying that Lynn Alden. So we have Lynn B who's come up on stage and she's working out her mic issues and we've got Lynn Alden. Who tweeted she's heading back to Egypt for the rest of the summer and over the last 18 months or so, their currency has been cut in half relative to the dollar. So this is an interesting thing that's going on. So you've got this, there's this concept called the race to the bottom where countries around the world to remain competitive, essentially devalue their currencies intentionally versus other currencies, um, on the international game board, so to speak. And so all currencies are devaluing against the U S dollar and the U S dollar is devaluing against everything. It's, it's a wild time that we live in Peter. So chat, uh, uh, GPT says that there's four, um, one of them being the first one being the great depression in the 1930s, but then it happened again in 1989.

"So, I want to first of all give you some background on this poll, this, some would say shock poll that was just released moments ago. It's a top Republican pollster. It's a Republican leaning pollster called Signal, C -Y -G -N -A -L. They hold an A rating with the poll aggregator 538. In other words, they're a pretty well respected polling company. And results have been released showing that Ron DeSantis has slipped into third place nationally in the Republican field behind businessman Vivek Ramaswamy. Trump, of course, is the clear leader of the Republican field. He holds steady as the top pick. He's at 53%. Ramaswamy is at 11%. DeSantis is only at 10%. Last night here in San Diego, we had a terrific event. Great, the great, the answer in San Diego, our home here in this beautiful city. A couple hundred people came out to see Brandon Tatum and I and we had a great time. Andrea Kay was the moderator. And by a show of hands, we said, who are you supporting in 2024? Everybody in the room raised their hand for Donald Trump. When Ron DeSantis' name came up, only two people in the whole room meekly raised their hand. Our latest straw poll that we've partnered with Town Hall shows about 86 % of our respondents to the poll are supporting Donald Trump, about 12%, or no, I guess it's 9 % on the last number I saw, Ron DeSantis. We've joined forces with our friends over at townhall .com and are presenting the 2024 Republican presidential straw poll. And I hope you'll take part because it gives us sort of an idea of where you are, where the American people are. Go to mikestrawpoll .com, vote for your favorite Republican presidential candidate, let your voice be heard. That's what we did last night here in San Diego. It was a good old fashioned town hall. They broke all the rules here at The Answer San Diego and I loved it because normally stations don't like to put mikes into the audience and have people, you know, read speeches and opine, but Steve Brodsky said, we're going to do a good old fashioned town hall and Andrea Kay started asking, having people ask questions from the audience about five minutes into the event. I thought, well, here we go. And there were some kind of unusual moments. Some people had different, you know, messages than others, but that's fine. It was a great night and people are passionate about voter integrity. People are angry about what Jack Smith is doing to this country and people are all in for Donald Trump. I wish we spent more time last night and I want to spend a few minutes with you right here right now on this Friday, August the 11th in the Relief Factor mobile studios. Our day, a final broadcast from San Diego before we head home later today. My question to you, what is happening to the Ron DeSantis campaign? Now think about my question. Don't call me as a Trump supporter.

Campaign 2024 Is Well and Truly Underway for Chris Christie

"Kroschauer said last hour that you, Chris Christie, are consolidating the anti -Trump vote in New Hampshire. You've moved up to third place. You expect you're going to continue to move. Is that the practical strategy of the Christie campaign? The strategy of the Christie campaign is to win every voter I can out there. It's not for any one particular group of voters who are predisposed in one way or the other. Because quite frankly, I think the truth is universal to you. I don't think there's anybody who doesn't respect the truth, doesn't want to be told the truth, and doesn't want to hear the truth. And so this campaign is for the people who think that the truth matters. And I think that's going to be a very, very large number of Republican voters all across this country. Remember, Hugh, we have not even been in this race for three weeks. And we are already in third place in New Hampshire, only four points behind Ron DeSantis. We've moved up to fourth place in the national NBC poll that came out last week. And we have not, it came out yesterday, rather. And we haven't even been in this race for three weeks. So the question was asked if the Republican primary were held today, who would you vote for? The results are stunning. This according to revolver news and big data pull Trump scored 61% in desantis is in second with 17% down from a high of 30 one. So desantis just to repeat is had a 31% 31% approval in this same poll at a high water mark and is now down to 17, pence is in third place with a 5% vivec vivec has passed establishment Nikki Haley for 5%. Despite all of the latter's name recognition, it's just, it's just stunning stuff. So right after that big data poll came out, a second poll was released that corroborated bears is findings. This is for morning consult. Trump is up right now. 60 to 19 basically exactly in line with what rich barris had pulled. And now we have the great rich barris on the line. Rich, welcome to Charlie Kirk show. Andrew, how you doing, brother? Thanks for having me. Of course, brother. We love having you on. And you know, listen, I know you like to kind of throw a little shade at some of these other pollsters, but I mean, how good does that feel when you come out with this, I mean, listen, Vivek and basically second or third place, fourth place, and then you've got the morning consult that comes in and basically completely justifies all of your polling once again, showing you to be one of the best in the business. You know, it feels good. I'm not gonna lie. That was a softball. That was like, what flavor ice cream do you like question, you know? You know, I mean, the bottom line is here is that, you know, weeks and weeks and weeks ago, we had put up this graphic because we were actually one of the polls that were weaker on Trump support, you know? We had them at a low of 43, desantis at a high just over 30. So, you know, I mean, for the people to come out and, you know, there's always, you always get attacked as a pollster when you come out with stuff, but if it just makes me laugh because nobody ever comes back on none of these so called influencers ever come back and go, oh damn, he was right, you know? We had done this. It was a combination of bad things that happened to desantis how he handled the indictment, bumbling, and I talked about this with Charlie last time. Bungling his response to Tucker, who now is off the air, but about Ukraine, flip flopping, he flip flopped first, with Tucker because he never was an America first. And so basically, in a nutshell, you know, that's what we expected, you know, that he would surge, but that night he had gone to 60 and we put that out there and got attacked by everybody and their mother over it. But he didn't hold it, but the trend was clear.

"We've got some new info on Tucker Carlson. I know a lot of people really following this story and I will say that this is just bad news all around for Fox. I mean bad news. The network's lost some $800 million in market value since they fired Tucker and the ratings are in a tailspin. We understand the latest and by the way, Brian kilmeade hosting in place of Tucker, trying to hold down the fort in that time slot, and it's just not going good, they've lost about 50% of the audience, and the ratings are collapsing among this key demographic. Now, I don't want to get into the weeds about ratings and all that kind of stuff, but this is an important demographic because this is if you're an advertiser, you're looking to reach these viewers 25 years old to 54 years old. It's hard to guess how high interest rates will have to go and how long they'll have to be high in order to crush inflation, Federal Reserve bank of Cleveland president Loretta mester said her estimate for interest rates is higher than that of her colleagues and the Central Bank needs sustained tight policy to defeat inflation. We need to continue to bring up interest rates into a restrictive stance. We did a lot of work this year in getting expeditiously to a restrictive stance. Now we're just in starting that bringing rates even higher. And I think we're going to need to be there for a long, you know, quite a while in order to get inflation on a sustainable downward path. The big wild card is going to be people over the age of 60. Many of whom do not have a third vaccine or third shot. And it's just a gigantic wild card as to how what kind of protection they actually have against this surging virus. As I said, Mary, you really know economics in China, particularly well. Yeah, I mean, it's a tough story. I think, you know, one of the motivating feature of aspects for the Chinese government was to get the economy growing again. The economy had slowed down tremendously. And that's a very difficult balance between public health and economic health. The November numbers are quite startling. They show that the Chinese economy is continued to slow, retail sales in November shrank by 6% compared to a year earlier. Industrial production growth dropped to a 6 month low. Production fell in very important industries, including autos, electronic devices, chips. So the government has some really stark economic conditions

San Francisco giant signing pitcher Ross tripling to a two year $25 million deal, the righty going ten and fourth a 3.01 ERA last season for the Blue Jays. I'm Dan schwarzman that your Bloomberg world sports update, Brian. All right, thanks very much, Dan, the time here is 44 minutes past the hour and you're listening to Bloomberg daybreak Asia. Let's get to our next guest FTX founder Sam bankman freed was charged with 8 criminal counts as we heard there in the news from Ed, including conspiracy and wire fraud in our guest is bob van vorus. Bloomberg legal reporter. Bob, there are many outstanding and interesting issues. I think first and foremost is do the feds have the evidence that fraud, the intent to commit fraud, happened here, a secondarily is, where is the money? What happened to the money? It can be recovered. Thirdly, I suppose, is can he be extradited? And then we also have to look at whether or not the bombers would want to prosecute first before, even having him extradited to the United States. Pick any of the above and take it away. Those are all really good questions and ones that are being asked today. Sand beckman freed who's often called SBS was charged with WIC prosecutors called one of the biggest frauds in American history. They claimed he miscues billions of dollars before the crash last month of his cryptocurrency empire. Bankman fried owned FTX cryptocurrency exchange and allowed me to research trading firm that traded in crypto. The prosecutors, as you said, have charged them with 8 counts, they claim that there's no way that he could have been doing this innocently as he has claimed in numerous interviews with the press in the past couple of weeks. Prosecutors say that beginning from the start of STX in 2019, it was lying to investors to lenders and to customers using FTX and customer money to prop up a $1 billion multi-billion dollar holes in his research firm Alameda research. So the prosecutors are confident they have the evidence against him and in fact, as I say, the firm's went into bankruptcy last month and this is very, very quickly for prosecutors to charge such a big case. Looking at the possibility of extradition, he was arrested last night at his home in The Bahamas. The United States and The Bahamas have an extradition treaty and basically all U.S. prosecutors have to show is that bankman fried has violated something that not only has he violated U.S. law, but the crimes that he's charged with, at least some of them are also crimes in The Bahamas. Okay, just touched on what his defense would be. I mean, he's been on earth saying that he effed up. Now the thing is, that's not really a defense ultimately what was likely to be his defense. Well, you know, that kind of is his defense that he screwed up, but that he never intended to defraud anybody. Now, when you're the CEO of two companies and prosecutors allege that he was intimately involved in all the decisions made by both Alameda and STX, it's kind of hard to claim that you didn't know what was going on. You didn't know that what you were doing was fraudulent. The new CEO, John Jay ray, of FTX, is right now trying to figure out what happened to these billions of dollars that were lost and trying to recover some of them for creditors. It begs the question, how recoverable will those funds be? And also, will they claw back some of the funds that were given to politicians? It's hard to say. I mean, you saw with Bernie Madoff's multi-billion dollar fraud. That that is still being litigated. And they are still returning money to investors. People who are doing that have been very successful in returning money to investors. But the money has to be somewhere. It has to be identifiable and recoverable for people to get it back. Now, bob, we expect it to hear more indictments with some of the other protagonists here, people like Caroline Ellison, who was his partner and head of Alameda research. That is very possible. Bankman fried was charged today by the U.S. Department of Justice, charged criminally. He was also sued by the Securities and Exchange Commission and the commodity futures trading commission. He was the only individual named in all of these complaints. They reference others who helped him. People he conspired with, who are not named, but are certainly out there and have to be worried about their legal exposure. Those people may be charged. They may be sued or they may choose to cooperate with the government in its investigation and prosecution of SBS. The cofounder, Gary Wong, is that his name. Is it likely any charges will be filed there? Well, again, bank and fried is the only one who has been charged and so it's difficult to speculate on who may face criminal charges, but there are quite a lot of people, certainly all of the people who are close to Sam bagman freed over the past few years at his companies have to be worried about their legal exposure. All right, bob, thanks very much for being with us. This is an ongoing case. So we should say that

Also not surprised. Yokich won the M V P today, but a little surprised that Yokich won the M V P in a landslide. So as much as there was conversation about how tight it might be, it was not at all. Yokich receives 971 total points. That beats Joelle and beat who finished in second by almost 400 points. And by the way, he got 91 out of 100 possible. First place votes. So really overwhelmingly, the M V P And if it's you know, one of the issues with this award that we bring up every year is the semantics of it all, is the most valuable player on the best team Is that the best player in the league? Is it someone's turn right? It was very strange last year when Yannis got a second in a row, because that's very rare. Usually it's sort of like, Let's spread this award around and you know, Harden and Durant the injuries plus taking away time and votes from each other. That's going to keep them out of it. Steph Curry. The quality of the team is what took him out of it. Chris Paul was sort of a late run. Joel Embiid was the most likely guy to push joking, and you could really put together a good argument for, um, but I agree with this pick as well. I'm a little confused by the Derrick Rose vote. But you know what people are into what they're into, I guess. Well, indeed, by the way, overwhelmingly got the most second place votes, not a surprise. I was a little surprised to see Chris Paul finished all the way at fifth. Considering how good Phoenix has been and how special his season particularly has been throughout the course of the year, so, but we have some hardware for what it's worth. So I'll tell you what that is refined. Know you're itching to get into that You're wanting what I was talking about this morning. But first Back to another conversation we had the other day. Good morning, by the way. I mean, I've already said good morning. We should assume that Craig and I have already spoken before we get on the show today. Yeah. Like what? Like when you read retract statements. Um, I can't wait to hear what it is. Like when you're I could retract a lot of state tracking something. What? Finish that When I'm retract this morning you got for me this morning. I'll tell you that in a second. Hang on. Paul Hamilton is going to come up and join us at 11. O'clock on Zoom. So if you're watching an MSG can check us out. Um Connor McDavid's or Shall I say Economy Jesus. Three more points last night up to 84 9 games left needs less than two points. A game. T get 100 points in the 56 game schedule. Pretty impressive. I mean, I'm not going to act too impressed, but it's impressive. What is another three points? Again. We going going back to teams. That are that are trying to not only make the playoffs. Move into certain positions in the standings. We talked about this yesterday. The Edmondson Oilers right now sits second. Okay? And The question is, why would you wanna move over top of trauma right now? Why would the admin Tin Oilers who sits second in the North want to try and flip flop over over? Trauma? May please, because right now Winnipeg Jets. Pretty much have the third place. Seat in the North. You know, lost up. That means Edmund Tin is going to play the Jets in the first round. Wanna make David in nine games, has 21 points against Winnipeg in nine games, 21 points. He's absolutely shredding. They have no answer for economist David. They have none so well. He's been shredding a few teams this year, but All right, listen. Is he going to get 100 points? That's the question. Is he going to get 100 points? I can't. I can't. Whether it gets 97 98. Does it really matter? It's It's unbelievable numbers in the in the Number of games were talking about what he's doing is incredible. Like I said before. We know we truly know how good jack like Jack I close. We watched him last year have one of the best years of Jack's career. Jack Eichel had what 89 points last year. 80 87 points to go with it. Yeah, I think it was 89. Economy. David in 47 games has 84 points. Like in half a season. He had what Jack Eichel had last year and Jack Eichel had an incredible an incredible incredible season last year with 89 points, economist David Right now. 47 games has 84 points. Just it's just incredible. How how Well this this young man is playing is taken his game. You know, we can sit there and you know you mentioned to me yesterday. Aaron's Would you put Sydney crowds 70 78 Heart D a points and 68 games last year, Jack last year? What was the area at 80 82. These are for that and 77 games. So it goes to show. West tournament David's doing right now it is just it's just completely off the chart. So it's something watch Yeah, Absolutely. But you mentioned to me yesterday about you know what would you put Sidney Crosby in the voting. Doesn't matter. It does not matter who you put in the voting. There is no vote. It's government gave it e mean, just leave that one alone and just enjoy the ride. Okay. All right. Fair enough. Well, well, enjoy the ride. It's something to watch. I think I think it would be To be a pretty big feet for him to do it. So I'd like to see him do it. So I mentioned you. I need to retract the statement Savers tonight seven O'clock Park Drop 6 30 pregame show on MSG and six o'clock and W g. R 5 50 sabers at the Bruins. So we were talking the other day about playing spoiler. And I said How did I word it? I said something along the lines off. Is it really that easy? Find a reason to play spoiler just because a team you could steal points from a team. You look at the circumstances going into tonight's game. And I think when I looked at the schedule, I looked at the standings. I look at the players on the other team that were moved there and one of them under specific orders by himself to be in Boston. And they're dirty knocking on the door of may be missing a playoff spot. You've got back to back games against them. Sabers do not need any reason to find purpose to win this game. Win the next two games if they only win two more games this year. Let it be. Tonight. And the visit tomorrow they play with a back to back I know they're not back about it's on Saturday, Saturday. So tonight and Saturday They are the only two games for the rest of the year that I care about..

"Some very very cool Lakers aren't celebrating the 2020 NBA championship. So make sure you guys check that out joining me tonight to celebrate the Lakers win over the Hornets a close one wasn't always pretty but they got the job done. It's Ron government from lakersnation.com and Angels. They should. Com Ron. How are you doing, man? Doing great. Yeah, not pretty at all this win. But yeah, I guess you take everything you can get right when you don't have your two stars and Markieff Morris out. And yeah, everyone's outfits. Yeah, so you take what you can get Ron I'm getting questions the chat here saying that like Chris Masters got smaller. Yeah. Yeah. He did. Yeah, that's that's that's me cuz Chris Masters in different forms. Yeah. That's what it is. No, Chris. Chris is taking tonight off. He's going to be joining us Thursday night. Actually, I guess I should just announced now Thursday night when the Lakers take on the Boston Celtics. We are going to be doing a live watch along. We're going to be doing that via hot mic. We're going to have more details on that coming up and I'm really really excited and Chris took join us for that. So that means that you can join Chris and myself perhaps Ron will see if he's able to make that work out and we're going to be watching the game right alongside all of you. So that's going to be a lot of fun and then of course, we'll still have our, New Jersey. Will post game show? So Chris is taking time off, but he's going to be with us all night on Thursday. So it's going to be a lot of fun run. You know what you mentioned it. This game was not pretty but at the end of the day when we step back as frustrating as the loss to the next one's you look big picture. They went four and three on their road trip without LeBron and without Anthony Davis. You've got to feel good about that, right? Yeah, I mean if you can go over find any stretch of games without your two best players, you have to feel good about where you are. Now, I'm sure the Lakers do feel good. They probably feel like they you know, let a few slip away and she could have more wins but I think I think his fans you have to be happy seeing four and three above five hundred on a road trip without LeBron in a d. Yeah. I mean it's it's tremendous tremendous change stuff. And this is exactly what we're talking about. This is what the Lakers need and again not always going to be pretty but at the end of the day they get the win and if they can just continue to tread water and that mean I'm talking about playing 500 basketball game is all you need to do right now..

So this is Marc Stein, the guest host guest host the guest host guest host. It doesn't get more pathetic than that. Somewhere or other my parents are saying, Oh, my God! Where did we go Wrong? 1 802 822882 is the number to call if you'd like to join the show. We have a special guest for you coming up in. I don't know, 10 minutes or so something in that area. We will be talking to the latest victim of the big Shut up that the enforces they woke. Billionaire enforces. There's a handful of them and they dominate all human discourse on this planet. And they have just managed to get rid from Twitter permanently. Mike Lyndall. That's right. The my pillow guy for the best night's sleep in the whole wide world, go to my pillow dot com. You all know that jingle And now as far as Twitter is concerned, that weird bid Jack Dorsey has made a decision press the button and at least on Twitter. Mike Lindell is sleeping, The big sleep. He's He's not sleeping on my pillow. He sleeping with the fishes. As far as Twitter is concerned, we're going to talk to Mike about that. In 10 minutes or so. This time, I'm I mentioned just because I struck me as interesting. That shock poll that showed that in fact, the third party is right now the second party. In other words, if Trump formed, a Trump party could call it what you want. That the Republican Party would come in third place, so they're the third party. And and right now, the so called Patriot Party or whatever you wanna call it would come in second place, so there's never We've had varying views on this over the last couple of days. But the fact is, you know when you've had as catastrophic as set backers this You should do some serious thinking about where you go on what your future is. Do you see any sign of the so called Republicans establishment that they want to do any serious thinking? Do any Seni sign of that for Mitch? McConnell and Susan Collins and Mitt Romney. Or they just relieved as I said, to be able to go back to the small ball Republican Party and forget about all the populism. Um, when you have a setback as devastating as this, which it is, you know you can't become, say otherwise. And this is a good time to actually start on day. Think some big thoughts about where you want to go? You got four years to do it. So might well be that this poll that shows You know, 25% support for the new party. Goes down, or it might just be that if you build it seriously. And you keep faith with your voters. That in fact that increases and let's not forget either, but for everything other than the Thin the presidency. You know, you have no idea how these permutations would play out. That was a very good point. In the last now that there were people When you have these tribal Democrats and tribal Republicans, it becomes very hard for them to move to the party. They've opposed Aled their life. It's not so hard to move from the party. You grandpa was in your grandpa supported and your great grandpa all the way back and then actually say no, I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go to this brand new party. It's an easier move to make. Furthermore, the one thing you can get aren t as the vaporization off Mike Lyndall from Twitter. Makes plain is that we're in for a rough ride. I'm not talking about where we're gonna be two years, four years down the line I'm talking about where we're gonna be two months, four months down the line. Chuck Schumer has called on Alleged president Joe Biden. Yeah, you know, when which hole we're not allowed to say that. But to be honest, I don't care in any free society. If you've had an election That's his biggest stinker as this one In terms of its operation, you're allowed. Say what you like. And if you don't like that, then this whole idea that no, You can't say that. No, you can't say that. Don't go back and look at that thing I mentioned yesterday, George Stephanopoulos. Telling Rand Paul trying to trying to do pull, you know, show what's that show cold and watched it since Sam and Cokie used to be on it this week. Yeah, yeah, this this week with George Stephanopoulos. It's It's not re education camp with George Stephanopoulos. You don't invite conservative guests on to make them chant the party mantra. That everything was on the up and up over that dirty, filthy, rotten, disgusting, corrupt election. That's a laughingstock around the planet. You should be able to say that and I don't. I'm not interested. I wouldn't maybe even be even as a guest host guest host. I wouldn't be interested in guest hosting for a guest host. If I was told you can't query the electoral integrity off, they have a vote run as badly as this Last one was, But his is my God, I wonder a little off the point then but check and particularly when it's being used as a pretext to shut people up. So for example, my clindell is banned from Twitter in perpetuity. Because because he queer is the election. What kind of who are these people? It's it's like a criminal conviction. Uh, the somehow these people are judge, jury and executioner. These five this cartel of woke billionaires that the Republican Party the Useless party did nothing about When they had the chance, and in fact, people who are so called rock ribbed conservatives on many issues were complete. Patsy's on pushovers for So called big tech. I'm looking at you Might Li in Utah, You know you talk a good game on a lot of this stuff. But the fact is that in the in the last 45 years This cartel of woke billionaires there. Mork, powerful. Then almost every nation state on the planet. Now it would require immense coordinated action. Between the antitrust division of the Department of Justice, Hair and the equivalent in the European Union, even to downsize thumb. In any meaningful way now. That's how big they've gotten. It's not just that they're bigger than Slovenia, and they're bigger than paper and new Guinea there bigger they're getting to the point where there was big or bigger, more powerful than many members of the G seven, including possibly the United States, Judging from the gutless nous of our legislators now, Chuck Schumer Has called on President Biden. Alleged President Biden to declare a climate emergency, he said this on the Rachel Maddow show last night, he says the president can do many, many things under the emergency powers that he could do without legislation. And he says, Look at what Donald Trump did with the emergency powers. Quote for a stupid wall, which wasn't on emergency unquote, if ever if there ever was. An emergency climate is one Chuck Schumer told Rachel Matter, so he wants Biden. To use emergency powers for the climate emergency, which is apparently pressing. I thought the rising sea levels were gonna wipe away the moldy violence in the 22nd century. But apparently it's going to happen a week on Thursday now so by the needs to take emergency powers because this is the most pressing emergency This. We've had a year off governments taking unprecedented emergency powers. So that they presume to tell you how many people you can have in your home, whether you can go and swim in a lake. Whether you can celebrate Christmas, whether you can go to church. We have had formerly civilized governments taking extraordinary emergency powers, and it's done nothing for the so called problem. The problem being.
