Stein's Paradox

"Katie hello you know that they're me off in a recent episode. I remember we were talking about Bays Ball I had to 'cause in that episode. I didn't have a dad jokes so I had to make this We're GONNA explore that in just a second. You are listening to the New Year aggressions as that was a pretty good one. Okay where where have I to to wear? Have I fallen if I'm so proud of that? Indeed indeed biggest accomplishment all day. Okay so This example let's let's recap the example. Because why not? Yeah okay so the idea was. Imagine that you are Some kind of baseball scout. And you're trying to figure out what the What the batting average of baseball player is and the batting average? There's there's this thing called like a true batting average which is kind of an abstract quantity which is. How often would this baseball player hit? You hit the baseball in an infinite number of times the at Bat and get on base or whatever whatever a batting average I think yes. I think it's getting on base. I sent home runs. Come to right. Oh yeah sure. Yeah but anyway. The point is you don't have an infinite number of times that the that the batter has been up to bat instead. What you have is some number of times. They've been up to bat. And from that. You can calculate sort of this empirical batting average but the question is once you have that number. What does that tell you about their sort of true underlying unseen batting average? Because that's what you're actually interested and so we were talking about this. Is there like a way that we can formulate this and lake a sort of Beijing way and how one of the very reasonable guesses that you can make is. Well my best. Guess about what they're batting average is willing to be in. The future is less. Just take what it's been in the past right. You say okay. They've done so well. They're going to continue doing exactly as well. Yeah Yeah So. They batted point two five in the past selects guests point two five in the future and the stole a major league I think point two five is you know I think okay anyway. Your best guesses point two five and maybe there's like a standard deviation that you can assign to that which be probably also taken from data as well so point two five plus minus point. Oh two or something like this maybe Most of the time you expect them to be between point two three point two seven so then the question is let's suppose it instead of just having this one baseball player you have an entire baseball team. So you have this person's rbi no that's not what an Arby's persons batting average against this versus batting average you have the shortstops batting average you have the third baseman batting average you have the catcher batting average you have a whole bunch of other information now this available to you and the question is any way that you can use this other information to help you make a more informed guests about for anyone individual what you would predict for their batting average in the future right so let me propose to you two different ways now that you can two different reasonable guesses that you can make so first reasonable guess is let's just treat our baseball player. Are BASEBALL PLAYER OF INTEREST? Mistreat treat them independently of the rest of the team. Let's ignore the rest of the team and my best guess as to what this This is going to do in. The future is just a say. We're halfway through the season so we have stats on the first half of the season and I said second half of the season my best. Guess is they're going to have a batting average this equal the first half of the season. So we'll say this. It's kind of like the individual mean. If you like is my best guess or my estimator in fact estimator is like usually what you hear? This called a because you're reading a statistics paper got estimator. 'cause you gotTa have a fancier term. Yeah I think maybe estimators are like a little bit more complicated. But lay with my. My estimator is the mean the individual mean. So that's that strategy number one strategy number two is instead. Let's say that my daughter is the mean of all the means so it's the average of the pitcher in the catcher in the third baseman shortstop in the left fielder. And all that site right now. This one actually this one kind of confused me like not knowing where you're going with this. My intuition says your player of interests Batting average is roughly independence is generally independent of the batting average of all the rest of the team. I mean they're probably some examples like if you have especially really really bad morale that might impact it but like I just don't personally see how other players batting average would have any impact on the player of interest and furthermore it seems strange to To make that connection if you also only have past data of your players like for example I could imagine if you had half of the season for your player of interest but you had the entire season worth of data like the future for all of your other players. I don't know that feels a little bit more tractable but I also think based on the fact that you brought this up that my intuition is completely wrong is so let me give you. Maybe an intuitive case in which which might make it more apparent why the other players might be relevant. So let's suppose that your player of interest was just recently traded to this team or like with injured or something and for some reason the first half of the season this batter was only bat two times and is it happened. Got Extremely lucky and hit home runs on both of those two at bats so now our empirical guests. If what we're taking just the mean from the first half of the season our guests right now is that the player is going to bat a thousand for the remainder of the season whereas let's say if you were to look at the at the team as a whole you find that by and large. They're batting you know to fifty plus minus abandon. So in that case I would argue that. The context of the rest of the team is giving. You is giving you some information which is basically that the player that you're interested in seems to be a little bit of an outlier and so you probably in this case would wanna come up with some kind of compromise between group is a whole seems to be doing and then you know maybe there is some information in the fact that that this player did really really well in the first half you know small sample but in the first half. Rossi's maybe maybe this guy actually has pretty good. He's going to be above average but I don't think anyone would expect him to bat a thousand for the rest of the

Bryce Harper dishes on Phillies potentially trading for Kris Bryant

"But Bryce Harper came in yesterday after you had already left and he I'm I thought he explain things perfectly people Phillies fans are inoperable or that the Phillies won't go into luxury tax territory right now and make a trade for a guy named Kris Bryant from that listen a B. B. grade get Kris Bryant but he's a free right you have to trade something significant to get on that's the point even going to luxury tax territory so endemic fell I actually thought explained it was explained it well on Friday the at the trade deadline if they're playing well and they feel like they're legitimate contenders they're willing to go into the luxury tax but they're not gonna do it right now I'm totally fine with that well I think more than the luxury tax is what do you trade any make feel made a point and then claim tech does is well and he's not a free agent but they've lost draft picks which is no excuse for that for two steps making mony act and some other stuff I forget his name that was drafted in the first round they just flat out step Cornelius Randolph gets hazy looks like a platoon player he was alive now that was known Monique sucks it well you're given to give him some time where are ya hit one ninety nine so but whatever the case may be so they complain that they traded away to get players will they wouldn't have been as good if they didn't sign the free agents so that's why they lost the match their own fault because they didn't develop a farm system so what do you trade for Kris Bryant you're not gonna trade Spencer Howard and you're not going to trade to bow out bonus is your number one piece Spencer Harris number two and then the name that's being talked about a Scott Kingery and there's no chance those are trading stocking re for Kris Bryant not absolutely and they should now and they should Keister best second baseman and he's he's a good player is going to cut down the strikeouts but the reality is what do you treat you don't have enough to trade because then you're there already barren in the farm system then you're really and you know who won the mage the only down the major league level might be sky king re but he's not good enough or they don't need Reese Hoskins because bombs probably going to end up down the line is a first right and and they're probably gonna be a DH at some point soon the cubs in the National League company Hoskins because they have rich now so what did they trade so nine the luxury tack and John Middleton stated it I forget what it was but it was in the engineer and they said they're not gonna do it to compete for a wild card they'll do it to be run Irish contender I understand that so me too if it's only going to get you into the playoffs what's the sense if you know you're not going to go for if it's not enough to get you far in the playoffs but they'll have a better idea at the because Phillies fans that haven't seen playoff baseball in a long time frustrated and and and other Senate lately how are you understand that that that that we'd like to see playoffs here and I still think this team is a second wild card contender just because if you're if you're if you're gonna get eighty some wins your contender for the second wildcard but like it if this point Hey how're here's what I know it okay the division winners let's just say it's the Braves in the nationals the actually the cardinals aren't the number one team in the central it would be us the cubs cubs cardinals over a Cup's corners or Milwaukee improved Milwaukee correct okay on the west it's lost list Los Angeles all right so now those are the three so so for the wild card it's either Washington or Atlanta the Mets are in there any either Saint Louis miss out on yeah the teams in the set of the Arizona was improved last year I mean it did when I say they're contender that doesn't mean that there are yeah that that there are there are there a a favorite to do it right but it's so that so that's a Philly fans are saying they're saying look listen you're not good enough right now so go out and make a trade how here's what I know right you can't build a baseball team that's going to win a World Series with free agents you're just not going to because they have a limit they're not the Dodgers are not gonna spend three to forty million dollars you need younger players from your farm system and I thought the fans fall to the Phillies have done a poor job building the team and they don't have a lot in their minor league system to do it it's up to his fans fault but it doesn't mean that you're going to trade your top prospect who is your everyday third baseman it in a year

The Rise and Fall of Baseball's Hottest Young Manager

"So Buster. The Red Sox and Alex Cora mutually parted ways on Tuesday. I think that's what we're calling it. After it was revealed that Cora was an integral part in the illegal sign stealing operation in Houston in two thousand seventeen when he was the astros bench coach. MLB is currently investigating the Red Sox as well to determine whether he implemented similar signs stealing in their twenty eighteen world series winning season season and now we are all awaiting to see what his punishment will be. What was your reaction to the report of his wrongdoing and his subsequent firing well? I wasn't surprised that he wound up leaving from what I understand from talking with sources that he knew as soon soon is the astros fired. Aj hinch and they fired. Jeff Luneau their general manager that his position with the red sox wasn't tenable depressing intimate set in terms. The suspensions and at the very least Alex is going to probably get a year and if they were to stack on the extra counts for the red SOx walks in two thousand eighteen at the end of that investigation. He might even get more time than that and so I think he totally understood that they're in a position where they were going to have have to consider a change. We met with Alex yesterday and everyone went into that meeting trying to answer. The question is what was in the best interest for the Boston. Red Sox Alex was professional understanding that he had made a mistake and and so after a couple of conversations. We all mutually agreed that we needed to part ways. But we do it. Alex feels like to some degree. Sorry that he's leaving on his own terms just as someone who's known for a long time and worked with them. I certainly feel that way a year ago. I think we would talk about about. Alex is being the most powerful manager in baseball and now we don't know if he's ever going to manage the big leagues again. But you worked with him when he was at. ESPN right right right. Worked with him for four years. ESPN did shows with him was around him and then after he left. You know when I would do my work on Sunday night. Baseball all or other type reporting and you talk to him or you're around the red sox and you watched how he interacted with players boy. He ascended so quickly and I can't remember someone who probably was better suited for the position of manager and saying I can't sit here today and predict that he's ever going to manage again in the major leagues seeks buster. What did baseball say that? Alex Cora actually did in Houston that he was essentially at the center of the conversation. An that had begun with Carlos Beltran and some of the players about refining. This science stealing Alex was the one according to the report who ask ask employees to install a monitor that could be used right behind the Astros dug out by the way that monitor was located. Did No more than thirty feet where. Aj hinch their manager was standing. No more than thirty feet were. Alex was doing his work bench coach during the course of the game. So basically everybody knew it was there. Everybody I've heard stories in the last forty eight hours about how members of the Astros have reached out to people though the teams comes after the athletic came out with an initial report and tried to assure peers competitors. Hey don't it wasn't that serious that that story was overblown and then when the report came out with the details the other day there is so much anger there are friendships that are fractured. Because of how some members the Astros not only did they cheat back in two thousand seventeen but in the two months that followed the athletic report. They've been lying. Did their peers about what they were doing. Well Chorus reputation like around baseball before this news. He was known as the guy who would hold things together. During a moment of crisis he took over the national team from Puerto Rico leading in the WBZ. He showed such a great way of dealing with players connecting with people at that time the Puerto Rico national team potentially had three shortstop Havi Abayas. Hi as an Francisco Lindor Carlos Correa and among baseball nerds like myself. We were all wondering like how is. How is Alex GonNa work through those Egos you know? How is he going to convince one guy to be the third baseman who got to be shortstop and one got to be the second basement any did it? And when he was the Astros Bench coach in two thousand thousand seventeen men he made such great connections with Alex Bregman at George Springer. They loved Alex Cora the the players loved Alex other people in Baseball. Absolutely love Alex. When the Red Sox officials who put in this position where they have to fire him they talked about that how much that's regard they have for him and I think that's I has been universal leading up to this whole decision? What was he like as a player at the time he was drafted by the dodgers? He was regarded as an excellent prospect but he never really developed into the consistent offensive player that the dodgers thought he was going to be. He carved out this role through a fourteen year career of being a role player but he was smart guy and was always known like Carlos. Beltran is someone who it was really good at ascertaining what the other team was doing with it signs for decades there was an accepted form of stealing signed and that would be the runner standing at second base and figuring out what the catcher signs were there with a lien or with the placement of a hand on a knee they could could convey to the hitter. What the next pitch was? And that's the reputation that he developed early on so he was signed stealing back that he was good. Good at picking up on Pitch Tipping. I'm sure as smart as Alex is. As much experience he had in baseball. He was tremendous. It picked up signs when leading off at second base and potentially relaying back to the hitter so despite that science stealing ability outscore score never really broke through as a player he retired in two thousand eleven as a career to forty three hitter but in twenty sixteen buster he returns to the Big Leagues Leagues as the Astros Bench Coach now Houston is known as extremely progressive forward thinking organization. How much were analytic Atlantic's and video? Apart of course coaching methods it was a lot in terms of what he was responsible for with defensive positioning. I've had conversations with Alex when we would talk about an infielder. Who may be wasn't that good and didn't have that much range and Alex would give me awake and say he'll be fine? We'll put them in the right place. That's part of what he excelled at when he was with the Astros putting a guy in the right spot to make a play a now the Astros under Jeff Luneau always had a rule that reporters could not talk to coaches. They're only organization baseball. That I know of that made that rule. I think in part because they wanted to protect their information. They didn't want the coaches talking about what they were doing. But I think Alex like Brent Strom their pitching coach. Aj hinch. They got a lot of information. A lot of feedback from the front office that they wound up using the culture in the organization has come under a lot of scrutiny really for months now. The commissioner statements singled out. Do you think Cora felt built enabled. Perhaps by the Astros focus on winning at all costs absolutely when you look back at the history of the Astros after Jeff Luneau took over. Boy does this seem inevitable. 'cause I mean they SP- have absolutely skirted right at the edge of of competitive propriety. All the way through when you think about what happened when Jeff took over the team. Not only did they tank. They tanked in a way that no one had ever seen before in baseball. You know in one year I think it was two thousand thousand thirteen. They cut their payroll down to the point. Where only one player on the team at the end of the year was making over a million dollars? One player I know what the commissioner said about the word tanking but I can tell you privately so many executives at that time. We're going to see what they're doing. They are absolutely they're not even pretending to. I have a representative major league product. It was clear from their actions. Then that so long as you wound up winning and you got the number one pick and and you pick Carlos Correa or you wind up with Alex Bregman. That would justify what they did. That same sort of mentality was in play during the stealing stuff

He's got seventeen is no one has more than him actually in the American League. Yeah. But they're all against the oils, so wrong, pretty much things are saving ad for the Red Sox this season. I was telling jarred yester-. He's tweeting out JD Martinez, his stats against the orient somehow. No, no, no, no, no. That's, that's a false narrative, I was tweeting labor Torres and Gary Sanchez stats against the Orioles. And against everyone else and they're very bad against everybody except for the Orioles. And then someone say now do JD Martinez. So I granted their wish and I did JD Martinez terrific against everyone except for the oils. It's a tough look that what, what is it to sixty Oriels like you're tweeting out even worse. Interesting, sixty the worst team in but I'm just saying all ninety all the Yankees are inflated because they just have the Oriels. To give up earned runs and home runs share Lega historic pace yet. You've lost them three times item not on the team. At least you are a lot of time you've ever done that a lot of I've never done that. It's not my fault that when they win the world. Yeah. I and World Series ring Ali, you put it on. Okay. Well, you're not in the Red Sox have lost to them more times than any way we play far, but you've played them like twenty seven times three times exact applic- if you. You can't just assume catch us assume wins the loss, because that makes an asset of you and me, correct. If you're that one. No. Okay. Well, now you to sale hap- than that's not to win for the go. Well, how sucks stemming go to Mingo I respect gone venous. Not not to doesn't have this. He win on Sunday. No. So go into Mingo but it was morally weekend, and everyone was out celebrating the troops that he didn't want to take the spotlight from them, which is very admirable. I mean he could have just it would have been a tribute to the troops. If he won. No. But he just he's one the step away from the moment. No loves the troops, actually. Thank far as a little. It's a little offensive, what's offensive. I said, are you saying the foreigners hate America? Now I'm saying that Domingo's has no respect for this country offensive. Yeah. It's just wrong. We have an opener on Saturday, you can get Chad green, and the first he's been better, though, with three and Owen openers, we'll say three. No, his last appearance was great struck of the side. Hopefully, Tampa San Diego sandy, what did he pitch against heads? Any opening Tampa. They did win the game three. No, but chattering hell's going to happen, if it's good shattering be good. And then you're throwing pretty rookie forsillo. He's done. Okay. Go for him. And then purchase in the league them priced Tanaka Sunday night, that price guy price Anaka Tanakh is weird catman. Sometimes Red Sox was tee off on that, dude. And another time I'll just throw eight shutout innings. It comes down to the splitter. Splitters actually moving down. He's going to be if he doesn't like yesterday where he gives it before, before gone out or three before gone out and not great. So it'd be fun. Yeah. So you think the Red Sox will take the series. I mean sign up for a split you would sign for split. Sure, I think it could be that I think, I think it'd be looking at try on, what are the pitch sale hap- sale. Yeah. That's I'll give you Thursday. "So everyone forgets game. They got smoked if the Red Sox win in a blowout or like better than the Blue Jays. So yeah, but the better than the Red Sox. That's a bad lost. That's the worst the Indians were, oh, and twenty six trailing. I feel like I said it's one of the worst losses I've ever seen regular season. Oh ever ever you were well for me. Yes. And I've been covered this, my fourteen season blogging, the Red Sox. That's one of the worst regular-season losses I've ever seen. And the and the fan sat through the rain rain, Dila Helen's rain delay can our, our ninety nine point four percent chance, thous the Red Sox chances of winning that game at the start of the ninth inning ninety nine point four. Ended up being zero aunt, Yep. Zero. Yeah. Well, we have four games. Yep. Should be fun. Yeah. We're gonna be going. We'll be there for. We'll be there for all four believe, so. Okay. If some good feeling we will definitely be there Sunday bar, the ballpark. Yeah. You're gonna be there Tommy. Yep. I'll be there. Cool going to be there. Yeah. All right. I would not be will be there will be there dragush. I'll the he needs to be dragged, I think he'd love to be there with us being on. But when it came if it comes down to I think you'd PB okay being dragged her. Yeah. Sure. If he mush we to drag mush we don't need to. But like if that was the option presented him. I think he okay. Like it's the game. So he'll be there. Just price pitching Sunday night. I don't think so today. So no. Yeah. I think he is. Now, does she schedule? He scheduled the pitch. Nope started on Tuesday. Nope. And you have a day off. That's usually how you pitch Tuesday. His bid Sunday spot. Cider sunday. Bullpen game Lakers. Okay prices that afraid we'll have a headache. Or like I mean he's had the flu the numb, the numbness he had the flu and he just started six innings last night. So he's gonna need some time to recover from that knee only like a month back in a month now probably make his next start after that just after the Yankees yet just avoid them. Okay. Nice. Not avoiding, it's just not avoid you're sick. You're sick. Got it. Gary Sanchez in the lineup. I guess Sanchez socks. Okay. He says he's he's tied..

"I was watching just enraged, watching him pitch who is the guy who at the home run the tie. Greg Alan, he hadn't had a headway Rojo ninety one hadn't hit it hit a year didn't have one hit on the road. And one home run this season. He came into that game with as many home runs as Eric hubs in the twenty nineteen major league season. And you and me, Tom. Yeah. Combined. It's insane. Oh, eighty nine no. Ninety one. I want I don't want, don't spare. Yeah. He's got to extra points. What the fuck seven runs in two innings. I mean what are you doing? And everyone's like all the other Red Sox bullpen sucks. Red Sox bullpen. So I think like brazier bluest save against the White Sox on may second. And since then, they have the fifth best bullpen ERA in the major. So they haven't sucked you wanted to just can't close games. That's different. We won't do we'll do a quick segment here math with Jerry. What was Ryan braziers ERA last night? Well, he record now and he gave up three so, like ninety sales Infinity. That's infinitely actually not realize that's finish. Where would the outcome to make it ninety six said he get it out? He didn't get out. Six. Yeah, if he has not catching, they would've kept score. We got one out. It would have been something like ninety six yet, but it didn't Infinity. So an leave it would have been eighty one actually now. No, no, no, no. You at times three by twenty seven nine yeah. Eighty one knock great. That's not good. No, by me, you don't want that. Walden two runs in got an out not good lack in this had a tough go. Laking slackened, whatever I don't think he just deserving pronouncing. Probably not at this point you should use him as drope ner. I don't I don't think him at the game on the team. I only the end of the game is the right move. I think he should start the games. I don't even know why he's on the team to be honest with you. Why, why is he on team? Where is your boy, who you've interviewed multi furbish fuck element, or Bush fuck is an actual names, confused of actually what his name is for Bush say he's not he's not in the cards. He's in AA. She and her forty men, I believe, so you should probably give them a call. Well at some point. Maybe my other boy will end up on the Red Sox. Maybe they'll trade for Shane green former Yankee. Yeah. Got him de Gregori most saves in the league right now. Yeah. Does he have seventeen of their twenty wins saves? There's actually make sense click on about creek Kimball. Me six years hundred million thing. No, no. I don't think I. Yeah. I don't think I'll do that. Maybe I'll pay him just for one year, so that he just him this year when you're fifteen which is more than fair, sitting at home and his feet up. Be like. Yep. I don't even know that. I don't even know that I would do that, because that seems like a lot. It seems like a lot of money for a guy that's been sitting on his ass for the first month. And he's sort of been declining. The last few years of stuff is gone. Probably should've blown in the Plasco lucky. You don't have the utmost faith in him when he's on the mount not in the playoffs. But Erica fixed them, okay? Then the Red Sox won the World Series. It's passes the past past past. Now you don't closer and some gun in lake insist pitching for. I don't know. I mean like what was the other option? He Embry bringing Henry there, anybody else. I like. Position player. I give moral into shot. Yeah. I mean he's actually pretty good. I think he's gone out before multiple the pitch in college. I think a little bit. Well, this is good timing because now it's Yankees. Red Sox where really locked and loaded. Here's the thing, the Red Sox are probably gonna win the series. They'll probably win like eleven to today, and then everyone will forget about the milk that that's what happened Toronto in Toronto. They lost one of those games like twelve to nothing but they still want three out of four. So everyone forgets game. They got smoked if the Red Sox win in a blowout or like better than the Blue Jays. I turned it on as equa saying what the hell just if the Red Sox had a closer, they would have a two and a half game lead in division. They've blown nine save slot. Instead they opted to just not sign anyone nobody closer out there. They were like an eight team before. Yeah. Eight guys, you have even signed David Robertson, stinks and that would have been like let's just say the Red Sox save half those games. Call five nine that they've blown tied. No. Yeah. I mean, like we're still probably we're at least a second place release in second place. And they have blown nine out of twenty one safe chances, which is horrifying was this guy lack ins he his fourth major appearance. He looks like a fucking position player. "Never I play with him two thousand fifteen but that Gotcha. Gotcha. Actually works here at this. He he, he does one of these podcasts. Basically, our best friend. Really? So you're a whiz defensively, obviously had some clutch hits this year to what's more satisfying a great defensive play in the field or a big hit to driving around. I driving Ron to to win games. It's fun is found out when you have the team to win. That's fun for me. And for the team for the fans to. What's it like being with this team this year, everyone is just so supportive and together this you know you guys just one happy unit it seems like winning. We'll do that obviously winning brings happiness. But how much fun how much more funding easy, does it make when everyone is so supportive of each other like that? I mean play for Janki is like blessed I feel blessed to be here. You know, the Janke day they make they got good name. Very good fans and all the War, I feel like a family plane for the Yankee with my team is year coaches, everybody, the found here's is, is something like we having phone every day. How good is it make you feel that, you know, even at work out in Cleveland or Tronto the New York Yankees said, we, we like this guy and, you know, we want to take a chance on him. I mean the the way I play I think that they, they love it. Try to do my way every every day here. Trying to to get a. To get. Vanish off Doppler twenty they gave me. So that's, that's what I'm trying to hubs mention the clubhouse being together. What can you say about how man the manager Aaron Boone has done keeping the spirits high with you know there's a lot of injuries but you guys seem to, to play together and just keep winning. How how great his Aaron Boone been good. Get he gave you that between two to play everybody's showing late. We wanna win. We know that we got a lot of people in the annual release. But everybody go. They're trying to have fun trying to do his job. That's we while we do right now. And I think that's why we are winning games this. He keep everyone Lucy keeps everyone happy. And, you know, he may out always always always talking with the players. Always they're like trying to to give you that that. They wanna win. We wanna win two. Awesome. So you've had some pretty big moments. And we're only it's only late late man. You've had some pretty pretty big moments that people would like wanting their tire careers. And you've had a base in two months, so of the three. So the angels extra bay extra ending Basit, which is pretty much your big big your first big hit with the team, the walk off against the rays, which I was there for and the two but congrats, thank you. And the two run Homer to tiding. It's the marriage. What's your favorite moment? I think that they'll walk off again the race. 'cause we want here at home nine in that's a moment that everybody wanna be. So I was fun to be there. There was at your first walk off of your year. Yeah. That was my level. Yeah. Like Don in the Bakley. Gotcha. Yeah. I was fun. That was very fun. You always seem to come through and get the hits in the big moments. How were you able to do that? What's your confidence like when you step up to the plate and a big moment like that? Yeah. Like I say that my coffee these inside to, to keep. It always go to play where I go to, to a games the moment, tried to, to keep my mind. And in the focus in the moment, it's right to nice. Nice that when you round the bases and hit that walk off and the lights are just flashing like, who is that ready? Even like blackout. You remember that moment or yeah, Yeah. I. Yeah. I be on his running. I don't see it. Yeah..

"Wildest dreams. Could you have ever imagined the season? Starting so well for you personally. Well, I don't think that, but on copy feel like blessed for me to have like that. I guess hop to kick gun. So defense is always been your real calling card. You've just been unbelievable. I even against us. I remember a couple years ago. I'd be like God, damn, this guy is so frustrating that like you would kill us. And then, you know obviously it's great having on this on this side now. But authentically you're just you're wrecking ball at the plate. You hit everything. So what changed this off season was that the Yankees, you know, telling you certain things to do what it with your approach. Yeah. We always make Joe man every year we make I guess, signs I got here to, again. Got traded to young. I've been changing leader stuff. That's ic- solves nowadays. I think it's working. Yeah. Than that. I take my coffee, this confidence a hidden right now. He's like better. That that's, that's the most important that really is like the most important thing in life, something. You have a lot of that. Yeah. When you came over the Yankees last year you started in Scranton, and you hit three hundred in, in AAA for the end of the season was there, something, specifically down there that they did to work on your swing. Yes show, the heavy allow their Scranton. The, the hitting goes who used to talk to me, a lot about hitting. I took like Cup of stuff from him. Then I starting using and start working. That's what I'm doing right now. Do you play with a chip on your shoulder? Do you like that? People say, like you know, not like the hitting consistently. Go you play with that on your back like I'm gonna prove people wrong. Everyday. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's too late. Gray that confidence in may to, to lead the people that I can do it. So that's why I go there every day to, to do my best. I love that. What leads to you being so good defensively, kids, like, and you'd probably say it comes easy to you, and it's second. But like it is ridiculous. How like what leads to it? I mean, I think I with that talent, I guess trying to keep working to, to be consistency every day. And in my, my defense that I always try to two guys the ball. And, and now. Was there a guy growing up, who you tailor your defense? Who you tried to be like defensively if you saw in baseball, I mean. I was a kid I used to watch the Colombian guys Orlando covered I covered on Renteria. But I mean it's still like I know the keys loss, but I still, I mean, the strategy still didn't work in the sense of, like you know, there was no rain, the came. They gave up for your oh he almost lost the game strategy k it was like, you know, the never ending search to fund or leader of relief. Who can't get it done like come comes true. And he was he was down to his last reliever in that game. He literally only had his closer curb it's ready to go. And by the way, curb Yates being like Hombre Fisher now st- is Chris a little fishy. What, what happened over the weekend Memorial Day Sunday with us comeback tie the game. And then you lose on a ball hitting rock sets takes boss. Hit a rock and extra innings after we make a huge comeback. Or you gotta use every single reliever and pray to God like maybe the rain comes in, like, that's how you be, there's no normal way to beat this team and contents today, Wednesday packs and makes his return throws. No hitter for inning. No hitter. And we face Chris paddock, who everyone keeps telling me how good Chris paddock is and how good has changed biz, and how cocky in the mount here now we shut down the Mets, and how he just welcomes. Big ca compliment shut down the Mets. Yeah. But he like welcomes the big moment he challenge hitter. Yeah. And guess what happened? They started the game off with back to back home runs. It was so smitty came over to me, and he was like I've really loved it. I I love I endings run in the first inning runs in Zinke Padres game he was like, you know, either team I just think runs and I was like, I don't know. I don't think so Paxton just coming back from injury. But you know, he still is like I still just trust aiming. He's on, like I think he's got a good chance. Yeah. The padres. And I was like, you know, in paddock is a big moment guy. Just don't know if they're going to be able to get to him early, and, yeah, I ended up being quite wrong and costs. Many little nail Paxton, right? Yeah. Nail actually great. Paxton was his pitch a little high. But everyone thought he was hurt when he came out. I mean he was not expected to throw many innings in this game now goes four any seven ks. The swinging. Miss stuff was there. The it was like his pitch count was high. He's inefficient. But his Red Sox stuff was there when he shut up Red Sox one night. That's the kind of stuffy had on Wednesday sound cursing. And then yet paddock, you'd expect them. Based on what we've seen so far, granted, it's only two months into you know, into the season but he strikes the side in that first inning usually like when he so amped up Yankee Stadium, and they just teed off on them. "A good defensive third baseman based ruble cabrera has declined offensively the nets are going to have to at some point they don't have a a big propped back in line that could take over a third base they are going to have to find an answer to that position pretty soon to be fair this offseason probably going be the good common is that if they might wish taco's is a free agent now i don't know if if you know that matches up with him in the meth he's going to have plenty of suitors uh you know in a year josh donald and manny machado there's going to be some option though you know the mets at some point e they have to find his replacement and probably sooner the sooner than later matti final one i know you cover the national league your round the nationals uw around the dodgers around the cubbies you see the mets each and every day you got a chance to watch the anc easy to the last four nights what we should take away from watching sanchez judge severino what was your take on scene and the gang keys two things stood at one for this being the theory that everybody market is judge verse conforto the gut player on the field and it wasn't even close with gary fair to uh that i totally agree with that he had it isn't it amazing that that people were saying he was having this failed season and yet you know after april after missing amonte he's still leads all catches in home runs this year i know his defense still needs a lot of work but this swing the power uh the ability to go the other way with authority i mean sanchez just a terrific eta yeah i mean he was by far the best you know uh i think it was he had it in the theories and i could be wrong but i think judging conforto combined for six so you know you certainly saw i mean you know you saw in the big bats in this area that it will a m the other thing that really just stood out about the yankees kerry collins mentioned multiple pot that bullpen is just something out i mean th you know you look at the first game the the mets steps are leaves after foreigner third and the yankees are bringing guys the.

"Um so that's bar in terms of he wanted to do something about it uh can really change means there's been individually into these where you take a third baseman for the washington nationals um he's just couldn't play with they pick left online through that that's out there basement kennedy guidry status i for extension sort of thing uh where your belly just stretches right out of and can re in various ways and he just couldn't play and um and so it's really obvious that uh he's gonna have something done so uh you're in sixty or seventy little maybe going to be he's better but uh that's not true in terms of the peace in just a few minutes stopping on he's one of the top uh it's the right number seven or something like that and the trip gets to stephanie sixty years old and he's he's been tolerating a pentagon for a couple of years he wants to a big terming wants to get back to had uh in six weeks and uh yes social security and you have i couldn't be compromised those guys are gonna make that pack america back my quickly he um each doesn't turn out to do biggest actors on my thanks and so then the surgery itself what's what's typically the procedure involved in there with what are you typically repairing as part of the species escort repair yes the uh no again it depends on with particular muscle you're talking about and uh look really awesome one of the most important things to realize is that it's usually notch just one muscle your dallas it can be uh almost all these compensatory a of muscle working to be a combination of muscle and he's got a lot of.
