China launches new crew for space station, with eye to putting astronauts on moon before 2030
"China has launched its first civilian astronaut to its space station as part of a new three person crew, the shenzhou 16 spacecraft lifted off from a launch center on the edge of the Gobi desert in northwestern China just after 9 30 a.m. local time. The crew will overlap briefly with three now aboard the tiangong station who will then return to earth after completing their 6 month mission. China built its own space station after it was excluded from the International Space Station with the hope of putting astronauts on the moon before the end of the decade. Their exclusion was largely down to U.S. concerns over the Chinese space programs intimate ties with the People's Liberation Army, the military branch of the ruling Communist Party. China says ready to 'smash' Taiwan self-rule as US prepares major arms package, sends advisers
"China sent a stern warning on Taiwan as the U.S. prepares a major arms package. A recent increase in exchanges between the U.S. and Taiwanese militaries is an extremely wrong and dangerous move. China's defense ministry spokesperson tan cafe says in a statement and video posted online in a reference to Taiwan's closest ally, the U.S., ten continues, the People's Liberation Army continues to strengthen the military training and preparations and will resolutely smash any form of Taiwanese independence secession along with attempts at outside interference. Mark Milley and the Subversion of the Military With Robert Wilkie
"Issue of critical race theory, et cetera, I'll obviously have to get much smarter on whatever the theory is. But I do think it's important, actually. For those of us in uniform, to be open minded and be widely read, and the United States military academy is a university. And it is important that we train and we understand, and I want to understand white rage. And I'm white. And I want to understand it. This Shakespearean phrase cuckold comes to mind. There's also the word traitor when you think about his relations with general Lee in the People's Liberation Army of China. But even just let me just for one moment vent a secretary wilkie colonel wilkie. That sentence in and of itself, not only is the general of the joint chiefs a disgrace to the oversized army uniform he wears. He actually said there, I don't know what critical race theory is, but I like that it's being taught at West Point. I mean, that is actually a moron. But let's finish out this sentence. What he didn't say. I like the fact that critical race theory is being taught at West Point. And by the way, congressman, you can graduate from the military academy without taking one course in military history. No, no, no, no, no. No. Yes. It is no longer required. But this kind of nonsense is now being imposed on all ranks. And by the way, let's also finish the response to it, general milley said it. I've known general Billy a long time. He said. A communist, but I read Mao. Well, you read Mao to understand how the enemy is thinking. You don't read mal to figure out how to run your armed forces.

Is an Invasion of Taiwan Imminent? Jack Posobiec Weighs In
"So let me ask you, Jack, do you think a kinetic invasion of Taiwan is imminent? Because a lot of people are speculating that, but it's far from an easy military maneuver. It's a serious island with significant terrain issues. Do you think we're seeing the kind of overtures towards that or is that largely bluster? What are your thoughts? No, Charlie. I don't think so right now because I think what you're going to see more along the lines of. Keep in mind that Taiwan's unique, not unique. I mean, it's an island, right? So it's an island off the coast of China. Truman had this famous quote that if the U.S. ever wanted to invade China, it would essentially be a floating aircraft carrier for us, a physical aircraft carrier. But Taiwan is not Ukraine. China can't just march into there, but also on the back end, we're there to be a kinetic war with Taiwan and the U.S. gets involved. We would also not be able to resupply Taiwan the way that we are able to with Ukraine. There's no physical border between Taiwan and Ukraine has the back door with Poland and Hungary. We can't do that in Taiwan. Essentially, Charlie, what you would see is not necessarily an amphibious assault, which of course would be very bloody. I mean, go look at the history of island hopping, the campaigns in World War two, some of the bloodiest days of the war in the Pacific took place there, taking those islands, even the invasion of Guam, Iwo Jima, et cetera, et cetera. And so when you're looking at this, most effectively, you'd see a blockade of the Chinese military. People's liberation army navy around Taiwan, it would prevent the resupply Charlie. Their food is imported 85% of Taiwan's energy supplies are imported completely imported to that island. So if you don't need to fire a shot and win, you're following sun tzu's most famous adage. And of course, the Chinese military all read sun tzu and they're going through the academy.

John Solomon Discusses China's Treaty Violations and the Wuhan Lab
"Is COVID origin secrets near the classification that in itself is exciting. Wuhan a lab's ties to China military burst into focus, talk to us about the latest things we need to know about our country, our government and the military biodefense lab in communist China, John. It's extraordinary. So no matter where we end up on whether the COVID-19 virus leaked from the lab or not, obviously the FBI energy department House intelligence committee Senate health committee all believe it did and growing other number of intelligence committees believe that. But here's the bigger question. No matter what happened with COVID-19, there is now irrefutable proof that the United States government has known since 2005 that China was violating its own treaties to not do offensive biological weapons they had an offensive biological weapons program. It was based in the Chinese People's Liberation Army at an entity called the academy of military medical sciences specifically the 5th institute. The State Department declared that in a document in 2005. Over the decade after they made that declaration, wide open evidence that the MMS that academy we just talked about was working with the Wuhan institute of virology, the place where we think the COVID-19 virus worked on. What were they working on? On Anthony Fauci's own site. On the NIH, you can find this. There was a study on anthrax. There was a study, a book, a book that said, coronaviruses as a class are going to be the leading edge of a new era of genetic warfare. That's the Chinese words, not mine. Those are the sort of things that were going on between scientists at the Wuhan institute of virology. And the academy of military medical sciences in China, the place that we said was the epicenter of an illicit bioweapons program, despite all that knowledge, despite all that evidence, no one in the intelligence committee, no one in the national Institutes of health. No one in the State Department stopped it. Millions of dollars flowed from U.S. agencies to the Wuhan institute of virology. And now we're hearing maybe also directly to the academy, the

I don't need to Intel committee. You obviously, it's widely known. Why do I know in Silicon Valley in Washington that Silicon Valley bank was an access point for Chinese companies to get American capital? And in almost all cases, those companies are linked implements or associated with the Chinese Communist Party and the People's Liberation Army. And these are not just companies coming up with pleasurable apps for the Chinese people to pass their spare time. I mean, China wants access to foreign capital to continue to fuel its rise and inherent and its system of state direct state directly directed economics is a tie between those companies and the PLA and the patient safety.

Natalie Winters: The Wuhan Institute Is Completely Under CCP Rule
"Just like the United States was giving money to a Chinese scientific group that was trying to better understand how bats interact with the environment or pursuing some far left social agenda like trying to stop climate change. The Wuhan institute of virology is completely under the thumb and control of the Chinese Communist Party. They have communist working groups at the lab. They fly the Chinese Communist Party flag. They have weekly. What they call party devotion Sessions. They have a foreign influence chapter there. They have a communist youth league under the auspices of the Wuhan institute of virology as someone probably the only American who's ever looked at their job applications. You can apply if you're not a member of the Chinese Communist Party and you're not in good standing with the Chinese Communist Party. So this is a CCP run entity through and through. And with that, because there is no really meaningful designation or difference between military and civil science. In China, it's also effectively a branch of the PLA in the sense that they were operating a bunch of the People's Liberation Army. Yes, that they were operating a bioweapons program. And we know this from documents from the U.S. State Department, but even if you go to the Wuhan institute of virology website, though they have since deleted these web pages, you can see that they used to list several several military researchers as higher ups at the lab itself. And even, for example, a lot of the blood samples, the human blood samples that they were using to conduct this kind of bat virus manipulation, this gain of function research with. If you read in the paper, they actually thank a branch of the PLA, the People's Liberation Army for those vials of blood, the human blood, whatever model they were using.

China protests US surveillance plane's Taiwan Strait flight
"China says it's closely monitored the flight of a U.S. surveillance plane through the Taiwan strait, accusing Washington of having deliberately disrupted and undermined the regional situation. The People's Liberation Army's eastern theater command says in a social media posting Chinese forces organized to keep an eye on the passage of the P 8 a Poseidon anti submarine patrol plane and all matters were in hand, it adds. China regards self ruled Taiwan as its own territory to be brought under its control by force if necessary and views the passage of foreign military ships and aircraft as deliberate snubs and provocations. The PLA command is accusing the U.S. of having played up the flight, which it says endangers peace and stability in the Taiwan strait. I'm Charles De Ledesma.

When one of these high altitude surveillance balloons entered our airspace over the continental United States earlier in the month, I gave the order to shoot it down. As soon as it would be safe to do so, the military advised against shooting it down over land because of the sheer size of it. It was the size of multiple school buses and opposed the risk to people on the ground if it was shot down where people lived. Instead, we tracked it closely. We analyze its capabilities, and we learned more about how it operates. And because we knew its path, we were able to protect sensitive sites against collection. Do you want to get to a story that I am truly obsessed with, a different type of concern, geopolitical concern, and that has to do with a story that has a headline, UK WarGames are a crash course COVID, our worst crash, I should say, then COVID, if chip supplies shut off, we're talking about a hypothetical scenario of chip supplies drawing up as a result of a possible Chinese invasion of Taiwan. It's not a movie we're talking about a possible reality. So let's get to it. Thomas seale is Bloomberg news tech media and telecoms reporter he joins us on the phone from London. Thomas, thank you so much for waiting while the U.S. president spoke. Let's get to it. Tell us about this story and what you found out. Hi there, thank you. I'll understand being bumped President Biden. So it's a fascinating story and it's really a measure of how seriously the UK government is taking this hypothetical problem. We really got a sneak preview of supply chain shocks during the pandemic. And factories were shut down briefly, demand for different cars and computers, fluctuated, really suddenly and we all saw the prices of computers spiked, the availability of cars, plummeted. And that was really a dry ride and a sneak preview for what would happen if in some hypothetical situation that type it doesn't happen Taiwan was its chip supply was taken out and we've tried to sketch out what that might do to the UK economy and the UK kind of consumer. As we've learned that UK officials are planning to run this sort of war game. Can you give us the iPhone example in terms of price changes just because I think that'll really help people put into context. One of the potential economic implications if this were to happen. Of course, so I spoke to a system professor who specialized in researching semiconductors and she told me that and this is all just hypothetical, but the price of an iPhone would at least triple quadruple because the supplies of chips would instantly become so scarce and chips are required in every single phone and the very touching edge chips that are required for the newest iPhone. Really only come from this one island and really most of them from this one company, TSMC makes 90% of the world's cutting edge chips. I think what's striking about this is we know governments do this, right? It's why kids study public policy and international policy, if you will, but they have to kind of play out this scenario and have contingency plans because we're talking about chips. We're talking about grains. We're talking about defense spending, and we've gotten Thomas a little glimpse of this. As a result of the Russian war in Ukraine. Absolutely. This economy runs on real things, can seem quite abstract when you're thinking about the Internet, for example, but all of the fiber optic cables or mobile antennas they need real stuff. And a supply chain is really only as good as it's slowest part. So even if one chip is missing, you can't finish the car. Well, and it's also important to note that the U.S. is trying to sort of shore up its own manufacturing abilities when it comes to chip production. So that we are not as reliant on China. The UK, it's very clear from one of the graphs you have in this piece has not done that in Brexit. I imagine only makes it worse, right? Yes, I think in many aspects, Brexit leaves the UK in a very different and arguably weaker position when it comes to these mega projects. So the EU is passing its own version of what the U.S. has called the chips act. I think the U.S. version is totalling some $52.7 billion. The EU is in the region of 42 billion. The UK is not really in the financial position to spend anywhere near that sum. So it's currently working on the semiconductor strategy, but it's going to be going to have to make their money go further in a smarter and smaller way. You know, tell us what's interesting and here we are just coming off of President Biden talking about the Chinese balloon and other objects in the air, but it's just a reminder of

Chinese Spy Balloon Sought Secret US Communications Signals
"According to our sources, the United States government, it says that the Chinese balloon that was shot down is equipped. Was equipped to collect intelligence signals as part of a huge military linked aerial sky program that targeted more than 40 countries, the Biden administration said on Thursday, citing imagery from America's U2 spy planes. A fleet of balloons operates under the direction of the people's Liberation Army and is used specifically for spying outfitted with high-tech equipment, designed to collect sensitive information from target targets across the globe, the U.S. said similar balloons have floated over 5 continents according to the administration. The statement from the senior State Department official offered the most details to date linking China's military to the balloon that was shot down over the U.S. last weekend over the Atlantic Ocean.

Rep. Zach Nunn: We Need a Strategy Against China Now
"Are we comparing apples to apples or are they just sort of making stuff up there because they know that there's a deficiency in our defense system under this president and this administration? Yeah, unfortunately, Jeff, this is kind of a repeat of history under the Biden administration. We'll recall back when he was vice president, Russia made incursions into then Ukrainian Crimea, nothing was done. When he became president, he said multiple times, there's nothing we can do if Russia is going to invade Ukraine. It's going to fall apart. Only now is he talking about doing something a year later sending defensive weapons like patriot Sam systems to defend against missile strikes from Russia. Here again, we see Democrats who are just kind of out to lunch on the security threat that's coming from very aggressive maneuvers out of China. And that's not just in, you know, the physical threat of balloons or a buildup of the People's Liberation Army. But in the financial sector, I now serve on the financial services committee, the amount of U.S. capital, our dollars flowing into China that are building their economy, paying for not just their war machine, but their oppression of Uyghurs paying for their extraction of rare earth material that is building batteries. And basically floating their economy at a cost of ours while our industries are pillaged from intellectual property theft from our ability to maneuver in the area and support our allies like Taiwan, Japan and South Korea. So here's one of the areas where I think we can have some bipartisan agreement. We need to have a plan now to address a threat from China and not wait for it like we did in Russia a year later to come up with a plan on how we're going to deal with a potential adversary in the region.
