What It Means When Children Are Under Fire

"We have a full house today though. Chris ted and john can you introduce yourself. Hi everyone. i'm chris brown. I'm the president of brady and hi everybody. My name is ted bonar. I'm a clinical psychologist and the director of an family fire and then sort of our man of the hour. Is it strange when you walk into a virtual meeting space and everyone just holds your book up with notes and says okay. Let's get started on delighted. Delighted actually see it in the world. I've been living with it for the weird thing about a book. You know you finish it so long ago and then you wait and you wait and you wait and then suddenly you actually see it out there so now it's it's always a thrill to see waved around admit meetings okay. That's that's a relief. I'm glad we didn't scare you. John and would you mind telling your listeners. A little bit about yourself as well as your great buck children under fire. Sure my name is john. Woodrow cox. I'm a staff writer at the washington post. And i'm the author of children under fire in american crisis. The sort of the short summary of the book is it's meant to be really an intimate account of the way that gun. Violence devastates this country and anna anna. Also a bit of a path forward in ways that we could make some small differences to help those kids both before and after they suffer trauma from gun wiles. I think intimate is a perfect word to describe this book as you detail. The ways in which children are impacted by gun violence through stories of a handful of children. What i'm wondering is what prompted you to write. Not just about the physical effects of gun violence in what that effect is on children but the psychological ex i think that so much of the coverage around the way that kids are impacted by gun. Violence focuses on the kids who get shot. We have such a narrow focus. And this really applies. I think to adults as well. There's this really narrow focus on and that's the headlines. I mean we can look at what happened yesterday. As an example. There's a school shooting all the cable news. Networks make a calculation to say. Let's wait and see how many people died right. One person died they move on. That's not an high enough death

Inflation, National Debt and the U.S. Dollar - What Could Go Wrong?

"Prices are up double digits yet. Inflation and us as measured by the consumer price index is still less than three percent that the federal government is issuing trillions and trillions of dollars of new government debt. It interest rates are rock bottom that the money supply has increased over twenty five percent in the past year as money flowing everywhere yet. It's not showing up in inflation measures such as the consumer price index in this episode. We're going to connect those things together and consider what is it. That could go wrong where we could see inflation. Spike and the return on treasury securities be negative. Last october i released an episode titled how to buy and hot housing market i described lapel and is quest to sell our house in phoenix and by one in tucson since then the housing market has gotten even hotter than median existing home price in the. Us is up over sixteen percent year over year. The house we sold in phoenix. Zillow estimates is now. We're ten percent more than what we sold it for. This past november houses around the us are getting multiple offers. Many above the listing price and often the buyer is paying cash one reason the housing market is so hot is individuals want to move. They have been working at home through the pandemic realize the either one a bigger house or they're not going back to the office and so they wanna live in a less expensive locale. How Will Biden Administration Reach Its Clean Energy Goal?

"President biden's administration said a big climate goal two zero out greenhouse gas emissions from power plants by twenty thirty five last week we talked with epa administrator michael regan about this believe that we can set up the right policy instrumentation and regulatory framework to encourage continued innovation to get us to that carbon-neutral goal that we know we can't achieve continued innovation. Industries still has to figure some of this out. So what more do we know about how the government is going to encourage it. Npr's jeff brady has been following up. Jeff good morning good morning. I just wanna know. 2035 sounds really distant. And then you start counting fourteen years not that long when you talk about changing all the power plants in the country house administration going to do it. Well you know is getting. The details are getting a little bit clear from the president's budget proposal and groups talking with the administration about this Details are still being worked out but a central focus is creating a national clean energy standard. And this would be a countrywide requirement that overtime increasing of is generated from fuels that don't emit the greenhouse gases that fossil fuels do conrad schneider at the clean air task. Force says it's similar to renewable energy standards that many states have they essentially required an increasing percentage electricity sales from renewable energy like clean energy standard simply broadens the list of energy resources that are eligible under the standard so in addition to wind and solar. This national standard would include things like hydropower and nuclear and another bit of detail. Here of energy likely will create this standard. And that's a little controversial. Some of the epa to do it. It's better known for setting and enforcing standards but some of the largest environmental groups. Say what's important is it. It gets

"E mail question. yes we do. We got an email question. And this one is from. Brad in omaha nebraska. Hey guys were currently looking at moving. Were planning to have some overlap. Between the time we take possession of our new home and sell our current home so we can do some work before moving in most of the homes. Were looking at our nineteen fifties ranches with various degrees of updates. We have two kids and it seems like it'd be easier and safer to knock out some things ahead of time having not found our new home yet generally speaking. What are some things that you would like to do before you move into a place. So far we're thinking about refinish. Replace the floors strip the wallpaper and paint. Are there other things that would be way easier or better to do before. We're in that we should prioritize. Thanks loved the show. While i would. Yeah i mean all the basic stuff like you spoke about. I would definitely make sure you have the right order. You're doing things in you know. Don't put the carpet in and then paint the ceiling Same with tile and same with you know things like when you grout tile you wanna seal it you know. 'cause people are gonna be moving moving in dirt. Moving guys trades guys. Sometimes you know you don't wanna foul up the grout so you know it's again it's the paints the flooring Don't sleep on the Drapes curtains man. Those are nice. They last a long time. I think a lot of people do a nice job on their house. And then they just head over to pottery barn and get whatever's in a package and hang it up on a bad chinese rod and it's like okay get get something nice. Get something custom really treat it like what it is you know if you think about a big sliding panel door windows or whatever that that's a lot of space on the wall invest in in the shades. The drapes the curtains that are you know top-shelf stromer that's like the The ascot of the of the find david niven outfit up a little bit right. Also the sanding stuff thing where super fine. Dust is going to be prevalent in the home after. Everything's moved in and that awful feeling of a fine layer of dozen falling through your ac and heating system because the guys who are doing the job forgot to turn off right. Make sure that you tell. Whoever's going to do the before they do the sanding to tape the vents off key. Daca off while they're working so that doesn't sit in your events and for the rest of your lives. you're just breathing in gypsum. That sucks yeah you may you definitely may want to on stromer to piggyback onto. Stromer point you may wanna go through the system you know. Have a professional crew that cleans those systems clean the vans obviously filters and that kind of stuff but yeah let's not get our whole house all done up and then kick on the air conditioning and have poof of dust and gypsum. Come out of the vent let. Let's let's completely blow out in clean out and do shout that system as well. Yeah and then with kids The danger that people can die from would be electrical so maybe get all the electrical out of the way. If there's anything where boxes would be open temporarily or structural things where stuff could fall in a little john. Anyone who's like running chasing his brother. That kind of stuff you know. Safety wise is probably the thing to do before the kids are in the house. Yeah all right what else we got man. Well we'll move over to our twitter feed but before read that. I know you don't care about episode numbers. Ace but just f y this is your seven hundred episode of ace on the house episodes. Awesome all right so this twitter. Come on congratulations man. And that's huge. The an stromer been in at least four hundred of those by the way. Hey oh so congrats to you to thank all right so you can also follow us on twitter at ace on the house and in fact. That's the best way to know win. We're doing calls so we can get you on in person. So here's a tweet from kevin hearn's hey guys. My pvc fence post. Got a hole in it from a storm. The post base has a patio next to it so digging it up and replacing it is out of the question. Any patch bondo or out of the box ideas to make it not look like shit. Well if it's a pvc fence it's probably got some wood grain in it i'm guessing I mean obviously there's patching one can do 'em thinking about fiberglass off the top of my head But you also want to if you were doing like let's say a fiberglass patch you probably want to put a little photo wouldn't grain in it when you're putting the the razan on top of it you know definitely wanted like take a dry brush and see if could simulate a little wood grain in it possibly of might be kind of self leveling might get a little drippy. That's actually a good idea. They do sell those photo. Finish wood grain almost like they look like little combs right and they have grain edge to him. So that you put a little extra resin and maybe swirl it across the thing and then once it sets up spray it with a little gloss white to kind of try and match the look of the. Pvc yeah i'm trying to think hold the pvc. I mean obviously..

"Get it on to get on a chip de bob moon. New welcome news on the house. Man krauts eric stromer over there. What's going on man. What are you working on man. Well baby doll. I'm glad you asked so be installing the quiet rock In this poker room bottle lift. And i can only say. Thank god drywall. Lift makes all the work when when those panels are so heavy. Because they're really literally just like you know two. Maybe two half inch pieces of drywall or a little bit thicker together and then. There's like a micro space in the center of it right. So it's double the weight of normal. Drywall glaive rock is quite quite an invention and like i said. I put it up in a bedroom master bedroom. That was up against the street and it just made a huge difference. You do you do the quite rock and you can do the quite windows to. You're doing a remodel. And it really you know when the neighbor garner shows up on saturday at eight eight fifteen and he fires up the leaf blower. It is not nearly as impactful is the old. you know. Single glazed windows or the regular drywall. Or whatever it is. It is substantial. I don't remember it being twice as thick as regular drywall. Five it is five eighths but but you know you look at the profile of it on the on the unfinished ends and you see that like two pieces that are equaling five eighths together and i think they do. Some sort of a maybe. It's a bead of adhesive to keep those slightly separate. I all right. Well gary is going to have to look rain from half inch to five eighths and also a one and three eighths thickness. But he didn't go with the one and three eighths god now it went five. We said it was twice as thick. So i'm sorry. What i meant was to p two pieces data up but you're seeming to indicate that there's like an air gap there but i think there's a membrane there i. I don't think it's an era. I think it's to your point. Yes i think it's something that separates the panels which then keeps the transmission outrage. It must be a membrane there but either way it is. I don't know what it is we're looking at. I don't know how much more is than regular sheet rocks. It's like double three times more but boy does it make. It is worth the investment map. Yes so you're doing that in the poker room. Yeah the poker room we got and then i ran the new air conditioning ducting. And here's what i hate about the. Acc stuff you know they unless you have the be license for being an age fat guy. You call up a store and go. Hey i need a mini split. And they're like who is this. You know a big house construct. Well are you have a be like do you. And they won't even give you pricing. It's like the secret schreiner club of mason guys. That won't divulge the license numbers so that you have to hire guy. How did they do that where you can't go in and buy your own ducking unless you have a license to be h fat guy. I i remember at license. The only one that prevents you from buying stuff. Yeah i remember that running into that with glass than where they go. What's your license number like. I'm a friend steve. I don't know a steve. And i just buy this shit from me. Yeah i think it's the wholesale versus retail. I mean what can she get into home depot. These well like if like i was running ducking that was basically custom reducers. That may only sell three different reducers at home depot If you need something to fit in bay that's the particular size and it's reducing down to one other size and great you know all that variety of stuff you're limited and they only carry like three things at home depot or lowe's well i've told people More than once that local sheet metal shop. I mean you go in there with a drawing on a cocktail napkin with a couple of dimensions scribbled next to it and they will make that for you if in fact you need that manifold there whatever and it's relatively inexpensive for what they what they do you can get not stromer particular case. I'm just saying in general. There is usually a sheet metal shop somewhere in town. And you can go in there with a drawing. And they don't need a cad file or anything and that guy will bang that shit out. Alright do you. Matt have questions for us so many questions about life and love and the path to happiness but. "Your house joe. It's man shurmur. I high guy. Hey guys thanks for taking my call here I'm not sure if you've seen the video that i've sent Into the show a couple of weeks ago but yeah we're selling the house here in denver and texas and just Wanted to get your input as to how much work. I should put into this basement in updating it since it's pretty much original using my shop last six years but i can't imagine i'm going to find a buyer wants to use it in the condition saying right now. What kind of shop mostly woodshop. But i have had a room for cnc machine and a bunch of three d. Printers in you know metal working stuff and some other general. This business It's my it's my home job You know my my personal workshop for awhile and recently kind of changed careers and You know kind of a professional inventor now and so In what used to be years worth of just random hobbies turned into a new career so pretty exciting. Nice see nice. Dust removal system. Ooh stromer got air scrubber hanged scrubber above that contractor saw so we're looking at the Video got a nice like i said oval system got a nice air. Scrubber they're going to pretty pretty solid looking shop. Looks like it used to be a finished basement and you converted it. So i like the drill. A drill press just on a shelf hanging off the wall. that's awesome. Yeah there's quite a few a customer setup that's great so what is the question. Shall you converted back to a finnish basement. Yeah well was up for. It was originally finished just finished in nineteen eighty five right and so yeah in. My biggest question is that is that second room seeing the video. Got wood paneling with a dropped ceiling. Yeah yeah yeah i mean. I'm not going to be able to get away from that dropped ceiling or you know a ceiling. There's plenty of Plumbing and stuff up there But i guess my question is do i rip out wainscoting do i just paint over it. this is the home that you're going to sell and your present. Yes is it. Okay yeah yeah. And i don't want to spend too much you know i've been burned before by doing really nice upgrades find out. I would pay and repair the tiles in the ceiling and walk away man it you know. It's a beautiful All the rooms are great. Just just paint the paneling out. I think what do you think okay. Yeah that's what i was gonna say. Paint the paneling and If you like you can paint the funky funky time tile around the tub is well. Maybe wouldn't that about well. Hell no leave and pain and rip it out and put what in its place. Yeah i know. Well i'm i'm i'm asking. I mean look you know when you sell a house you wanna go. Here's you know three bedroom. Forbath their five bedroom and five bath or whatever it is you know so i would caution you about removing a bath from from the sheet that the realtor has that says four bathrooms for now now right so if i remove the tub that that becomes another half bath rather than. Yeah yeah what. What i would do is paint. Here's as much as i would do. I would paint the paneling. I would think about painting. The tile around. The bathtub is big expenditures. I would make would be possibly changing the old time funky eighties gold fixtures on the bathtub. The something new or more modern you know nicol brushed steel stainless whatever it is. That'll be a nominal thing and then you're pretty much just left with flooring like what do we do with the flooring Carpet tiles are pretty inexpensive and pretty easy to that. Don't require a lot of prep. So i would think about the carpet tau painting of whatever needed painting obviously replacing the the the drop ceiling panels the ones that are funky funky mildew or water stained or whatever they even have more modern style acoustic panels that you could drop in there that would give the give it a look. That would be a little more. Yeah i modern. I've installed more modern looking thailand previous. And then you fixtures on the tub and you know maybe some vinyl on the floor in the bathroom and you're all in for a few hundred bucks definitely some labor but not a whole bunch of expenditure on your part especially a guy like you who can handle most this stuff yourself. You could make a plastic hand gun in that machine cancer. That's right you did on any airplane america. Hey what are you pay paneling. Make sure your prime the crap out of it with kills his role a bunch of kills over at maybe two coats and men do your finish coat. Yeah okay it'll bleed. Popcorn dealing i've got about in the first two room should i. Should i go ahead and get rid of that right now. Stromer she gotta start bitching about his best pitch about about. Just if you're gonna do anything put put like a quarter inch drywall. Up and cover it and leave it alone. I okay. Wow she either leave it. Here's what i would say. One could test it if one wanted to see you know if there's any hispasat or anything in it there such a thing but in but in this situation al care about us i care about him. Not doing a bunch of work. Well yeah i mean re hanging a bunch of quarter even quarter inch drywall. On the lid is gonna constitute some work. I mean there's no there's no doubt about there. So there's there's there's a couple of paths with the popcorn acoustic ceiling. You could a leave it alone and maybe just spray it white or repainted or just altogether. Leave it alone. You could take the sheets of q-quarter-inch. Drywall put it over it. have to mud and tape that There there is a version where you get some guys. That are good with hawks and brought knives and they just literally skim it with the joint pound version of that ad. Look into that. don't do it. You know investigate that. And then there's a version where you take a hudson sprayer and some warm water and some white vinegar and you just sorta spray it and multiply and take that same broad knife stiff knife and scrape the whole thing. Which is a goddamn mess. Yeah yeah i might. I would probably stay away from the popcorn ceiling altogether. I think if our if our battle plan is to see how much bang we can get for bach versus how much mass an effort and labor. I'd probably just stay away from the ceiling. That would be you know. Homeowners are always like. Oh my god can you knock thirty grand. It's gonna cost the with a people coming in and removing asbestos. especially like. i would hide it in. Do the quarter inch and get out of there. Well there's definitely that argument You you might want to start by simply having it tested. Yeah that's true and then reproduce the documentation for when they bitch and go here right. He provided the way. You want it to go thank you..

"Stuck up on top of mount mountain. I got no way to get gas. Anything i'm stuck. I mean there's no way to get out but so yeah it's it's advantages to where i can flip a switch. If i wanted to off and do it. I can do it It'll be interesting. I've never done this before grid tied and i'm in a place that you can still sell back the extra electricity which is pretty rare today. Where are we at with solar technology and battery storage technology. And are we at such a place where they talk about those power walls. I i've looked into it a little. Bit tesla makes one. But i think hitachi or some company sonic mitsubishi. Or something you know they they make them but when you really start talking price it's it's tens of thousands of dollars at least on a bigger home where we going with that. What do you think about the solar tiles versus the solar panels. And tell us what you know. Yeah my system up. There is not that big in my house in washington and and people who walk in never even know. It's off the grid. you know. Not poop in a bucket of water at bathrooms. It's a normal house but my wind walzer fourteen inches thick little different. But i think i have. Twelve panels hen are usable to our flat for the snow. So i can trickle charge my batteries a minute. I leave it so you have to use old battery technology. Which is your lead acid because they can go below. Zero technology in batteries is nominal today. And if elon. Musk is listening. I wanna use some of your stuff on my new house. Gary he is listening. He's sitting next to me now. Go perfect then. He can just mail it to me. I've looked into the tiles. They look phenomenal. They are really expensive but for the people are looking to get started. You can start a small system for like five grant. How how did you get. What are you doing with your walls for the thickness. What is my question walls. Yeah i know. I know a you're familiar with with the ics. So i use a product called thousand wall and it was a green product. So it's eighty five percent would chip fifteen percent concrete. It's proof. It's light is like lego. Blocks is how i put. It has three inch foam on the outer basing part of the brick and You know. I think it's what is it our thirty out of the box or are twenty four. But i'd stacked mine so i ended up Two by four framing the inside of my house as well so double layer insulation but yet becomes the facade on the exterior of the framing. I see why it's very interesting product though. Because here's the thing. I did not know. 'cause my contractor go figure was an idiot. I've been doing this stuff. As as as as knows. I know you what your background i used to. Listen to your way back in the day very familiar with your show that it's imperfect so you have to choose which side you want flak either choose the inside of your house or you choose the outside. There's no both because they're formed. They don't form perfectly the way they make him and my contractor decided to do The outside of the house and my inside was imperfect. Couldn't hang sheet rock onto it. It's tricky because he had he just didn't know what he was talking about. It's easier to so. Where are you relegated to. Sort of an adobe. Look then if that's the exterior wall or can it be smooth trial and whatever you want to have it look preferrably. The easier way is to stucco it. But what i did is i wanted to make it. Look i didn't wanna stucco house on the top of a mountain. That's knowing look kind of stupid. So i did. I ended up doing seven. And a half citing i used hardy backers citing 'cause i went viral roof as well But it took a lot of work to true that up into shit up. I think we spent three weeks just to do it. It's not a very big house just to get enough to where we could put it on So what does this product called again. Is it come. It's modular ryan and it comes in like block form correct. Yeah they ship it to in In pallets Though it comes into pallet. I believe they're all made in oregon still but it's f. a. s. w. a. l. l. com. They do. They don't know what they do today. 'cause i bought this stuff years ago but it's still round. I mean i've talked to the the sales guy over the years but it's a really good product but it's not the only one there's more than one. There's there's different different types and it. it's good structurally. And i i see that it's it's it's got a hollow cavity in it. Do you blow some insulation in there like at the once. You've stacked everything together do you. Do you feel that the backfield. That's what makes it really interesting. It works like cinder block The caveat is that the way you 'cause the joints you did not using a mortar joint. So what happens. Is you actually use a low spread foam and you can use open cell or closed cell. Doesn't matter but most people use the fire retardant sealer foam or it in you do the outlier bricks and then you push them together then you rebar it and you have to fill it with concrete conference structure so the footings of the there's going to be said you know when i saw the picture your house just like the feeling of liberation from quote unquote the power man crew. You power guy would be so appealing to know that you're never dealing with the utility company to me. That just seems great will end up there. We get bad windstorms storms and we'll get some storms out will not power out the only time i know. The power's out. i overlook a lake in the lakes. Dr which is black. That's the only time i know. The power's out. Do you have a generator. Do you buy code. You have to have a backup generator. But i have a portable which i used to build my house. I spent like five six hundred bucks on this thing a decade ago. I still use it to this day. And and You know the ones you put in like..

"For more than two hundred thirty years. The occupants of our nation's highest offices have looked largely the same. Fortunately that's no longer true. But while i may be the first woman in this office i will not be the last this week. Kamala harris will become the nation's first woman vice president. She'll be the first black woman and the first south asian woman in the role. I think that was so important because that was a signal to all the women out. There is like look this. Can it with the you've got to do this. Really gives young girls women. I think the opportunity to see ourselves on any stage that we want to. So how did she get here and perhaps even more importantly how do we make sure she really isn't the last over. The next month. Women belong in the house turning our attention to a different house. "Is. Lie Issue is, has bathroom. And we're redoing it. And when we and it was only the second owner of the House has built for the first owners and they didn't cut the trim around doors. Before they put the tile in. Now we took all the tile out and we have to trim the door frame the put the new under. Would would would undercut out work. That's ideal. I. Guess. Multi tool. Like a handsaw. Yeah. Only for that, right. So we'd never used that tool for anything else. Now, don't don't don't buy I mean unless you're opening a flooring business, I wouldn't buy an undercut saw. Okay. Are you going to? Win By by a multi tool though just to have it's a beautiful tool. Yeah. Here's the. You're ready Lisa. Let me explain. Let me explain your life. Let me explain what's going to happen to you. Okay. Let me predict the future. Are you cutting the doorstop and the JAM Well I don't know like are you supposed to cut the doors to well? Yeah. You Definitely WanNa cut the doorstop for sure. Maybe not the jam. Let's say the JAM. All right you guys ready. Here we go. The multi tool. Is Fine and Dandy but the multi tool can get a little squirrelly. And the mistake that people make with the multi tool is you're down there on the floor and you don't know it but you're holding it up at a little bit of an angle. So you've got the bigger gap in the front as it goes in it hits the Wedge, the best way. To do a cut like this. is to get. Like a dovetail saw or maybe a banjo saw just like those Japanese finished sauce it's got the Hori Hori Hori. It's it's it's it's it's flat. You can make it flat. It doesn't have a rim on one side of it a blade on the other, and then you take your piece of tile and you set it up you butted up against the door then you lay your soft. Flat on that tally, you keep it flat on the just go back and forth real slow and you get a clean cut with no angle and no multi tool squarely Ville you know what I mean because yeah. Yeah. Because that's what I don't like that when you see that Oh somebody cut kirk, there's another worse than that big gap under there the towel you take that saw gary. Put A saw. Put banjos saw or. Finish Shaw or Japanese finish. Let's see. It it's just you gotta be able to lay it flat. You can you can. Late as flexible too. So you know you can hold the handle at an angle, but keep the blade flat 'cause. It's kind of flimsy, right? Those are little flimsy. There's there stiffer versions of it to just walk a flimsy one for that thing you're describing. May maybe maybe but but you get that what do you got their Japanese finish saw there. I don't know if it shouldn't have a back. It just shouldn't have a back edge on it or it can have an edge, but it can't yeah that one gary, go go. There you go. That that bad boy. So you get that thing it's called the Japanese finished. Yeah Japanese style, double edge double edged Shaw Alright. Get that bad boy what the fuck don't I know is there anything? Are there! Something I don't know he just lay it flat and you go nice and slow because when you get happy with that multi tool, you're you're going to fucking rue the day you got that thing. Take it nice and laid on that tile. So you got the exact right height. Put a little. I. Don't know if you WANNA put a little. Piece of cardboard under the tiles to account for the thin said fine. Yeah. There you go. Perfect. Questions. In that bathroom I was considering and I, don't know if this would it's contemporary. was considering using. The floor. Tile is twelve by twenty four taking one of those house cutting it down the middle and using it for the base mold around. The floor. Instead of wood. It's loading. It's a luck. Is it? Okay? Put a medal finishing you think that's too commercial looking or would it be cool in a bathroom? STROMER? So tell explaining the vibe again what do you think cheese in tile for base taking a one by TILE CUT IN HALF If it can be. Has Doesn't it? Does. It have what? No? No, there's no. It's porcelain tile with the colors through and true. But I was GONNA put a metal finish piece along the edge, the edge of the tile and a law. Sluiter yeah. Yeah you can. Do that put the great. Yeah. Yeah put the factory at Jaap. Probably Walk. And then whoever whoever's pulling the baseboard on the wall make sure that you you. If you use schlueter tremors some metal edge, it has to be dead nuts flat and there can't be any wade's are dips has the the piece of trim on top will not allow it. You'RE GONNA have to really set that stuff using a log level or some kind of a guy to keep it flat to the wall. So there are zero dips anywhere otherwise, it won't work So that means also that some of the tile might be a bit proud in the back of the tile and you may be able to look down and see divots that you'll have to talk in and fill and just be okay with a bad drywall job. All right. Thanks Lisa. Let's see. Advice on finishing off drywall where it hits a no. Not that one go to line to Gary Says Charlie Claremont California. What's up guys thanks for taking my call. "Get a quote today at Geiko, Dot Com and see how you could say I needed EPI guy going everybody happy becoming. All right. Let's see. So Daniel Thirty thirty-four. What are you beat up stroller? Up on Ritalin and caffeine. Okay. Something's going on with you today. Yeah. Every day come on. You're a wild retarded stallion who cannot be detained. But I'll crash around one thirty and then I'll have to get hopped up again you know how it works. All right. Well, let's pretend it's one thirty five. Off. Scaring me. Daniel thirty four Seattle. Areas I guy. Hi Guy. it's awesome to talk to you about questions of I had a nineteen o nine house Seattle. Been essentially fully remodeled. the last piece was to do a fireplace insert a natural gas fireplace insert on it was on a blank exterior wall is not going into like an old fireplace that were repurposing incentive LANC exterior, wall? Okay. So and it's too late for exterior walls and we had to do because I don't want the I didn't want the fireplace too much floor area inside. So it's kind of fits proud about three inches into the room. And the rest of the the rest of the structure if you can imagine or if you correct it's kind of sticking out of the back of the house. It's about twenty four side of the House twenty four inches. That's like a dog house. Yeah. The box is sticking out the back of the house. You, got it and Massara with the with a chimney coming up or event once. A site, it's like side. It's vented out of the side of the box towards the neighbor's house continue and it's got a little bit about twenty four inches, deep or exterior anyway, and then probably about five feet wide and eight feet tall, and it's got a little roof structure that you know at some rafters to keep the rain away. So the installer who I hired. You know said, you don't need a permit for the structure anything all we need the mechanical permanent well, the Mechanical Inspector showed up and he said, Hey, where's your building permit? You guys put a new header. So. We had to go and do a bunch of work and I had hired architect. So the. I did you. Even talk that might even go for mechanical. Why don't you just put the thing in? I in retrospect, I should have the rest of the well I. that's how I typically do it I felt like. This was would be simple enough and these guys, these guys who did it I like no problem I. got it. Now, and by the way the was over facetime. You didn't even show up just all virtuous kind of interest. Like, hold the computer and show him this and swing it around to that. Yeah, the thought. What if they're doing that out here? All, right. All right. Keep going. So here's what happened. So I ended up. In commercial real estate development. So I have some friends in the city and permit expert stuff. So I was able to get this issue solved without needing to actually get the secondary permit I got somebody to sign off saying it's not structural not it's not an additional floor. So we got that solved but what they did was it opened up a question hired architects do plans. And to do structural Calkins, Cetera and he says, well, these guys didn't insulate. The box appropriately and you're gonNA have major mold and condensation problems if you don't insulate. So here's here's the way they did it. So they have in the box. There's a false ceiling in the box. It's like rectilinear. It's like it's like as if it's just a square sticking out on the side of the house, and then they put rafters in kind of creating a triangular lawyer on top of this box that has the fireplace in it. And per the specs of the the actual fireplace insert, you're not supposed to have any building material aside from be kind of above it, which means the only place to insulate to the degree one wants to insulate or needs to. is inside of that kind of triangular volume below the little mini roof rafters and above the false ceiling for the box. Right. With you you got you. So the architects says, if you leave that on insulated, you're GONNA have lots of conversation does that inside of that box could hot with all exhaust the fireplace and so forth. So here's the question. Is it wait? Is it a gas by is gas or or or natural burning wood? It's natural gas. Insert Africa. So here's the question. How would you in? How would you I do I need insulate or or I think I do. But how would you insulate inside of that kind of triangular volume up in like the Little Mini Attic? And how would you bent it? If you try to insulate inside of that 'cause I think. You couldn't really effectively do like Eve events because he. Sees me 'cause the installation would would kind of cover up those events. Yeah how yeah. All all you have. I don't WanNa do is do like a starting at? All, you have. Is the two by four rafters to insulate them is that the space you have to insulate? Well, and then you know because it's it's up at an angle until it gets to the side of the house. So after after the actual side of the House, it's probably twelve or fourteen inches. And then of course, as the raptors come down, it's whatever three and a half or whatever. Right, I'm not sure about first off I. Don't know how you access it your access it from inside and underneath. Well. It's not cited yet. Why would pop on the OSB and the And because we stopped midstream because we thought we had this.

"The side of our neighbor's house so I'm not worried about losing the view Do you think that would be something? That needs a permit to do to remove a window and all you have to have a permit to add one. So that's it. He's looking to see how hard that is. Framing and a window. Give it or could you just build? Bilton over and the other side you see the backside of the Bilton through the window options ideas. Let me know expel man I I would. I would put bench seats below box a man and have it be a detail like a toy box lids on its you could get in there and put storage have a bench seats. Still have the light source. It's not about that. You're not seeing the view as the light and I think it will look weird to cover them from the inside. It's seems like a total waste of money to try and Stucco the side of the house which will look like shit unless he really does a good job stuck owing and houses without windows on a full run of fifteen feet look weird. You know what I mean. Yeah I agree with that. It's the side of the house maybe not as visible the front or the back of the house. I agree the long run with no windows. Always seems weird. Really Weird me so I would. I take a look on the outside of the House and see just how weird it might look filled in before. He made that decision as far as what he wants to do. I'm just going to answer his question. Not certa try to steer them in an alternate direction. There is a version of this where you do it from the outside of the House. Okay so if you WANNA frame in the window you may frame in the window if the guy comes in and patches stucco because you just remove the window and remove the stucco moulding which leaves a weird certa Roman og shape in the side of the STUCCO but my point says if he patches that window you're going to see a perpetual crack around that patch for as long as a man exists. So if if you WANNA do If you want to patch that stucco you gotta bust it out around that window and get it jagged in tied in to a jagged edge versus a straight edge which is what's going to be there when you pop the window and the stucco moulding out right right and not just jagged edge jagged with you know going from the surface in at an angle right so it's not a perfect jagged edge but it's it's graded as you're going outward because it has to. It has to have the ability to feather and then for Matt Technique. You will not get cracking right hard lines even if it's jagged crap right so at so as far as. Who's ever doing the STUCCO? Make sure it's going to be jagged. Not just pull the line out. Fill it out if you want to fill it up. You WanNa do a big built then know pop the casing off and fill it up but but take a look at the outside of the House and make sure it doesn't look weird to have just a long run of no windows I agree that can be an off-putting luck And again the STUCCO guys if he pops all that stuff out and just puts in the K. laugh and starts patching in without busting up the existing stucco to tie into it. That is a red flag. You need to stop. Stop them right there and I would. Even if I got a STUCCO guy out to the House I would say to him. How would you patch this up? If we pop the window out to make sure also and because you know you look down the long run of the house from the front or the back and you will see the waves and you will see a dividend because of the way the windows are framed. And how the STUCCO ED kind of feather into the STUCCO Molly. It'll it'll look awful if it's not a real pro right. Don't skip skimp on the STUCCO as far zone stuff up and leaving the windows on. I'm trying to think of the version of this that that would work. Obviously if I did it I'd seal the shit out of the windows from the inside and the outside and then you're GonNa have to look at something other than the back of Luan paneling from the outside in. So you'd have to simulate you know you'd have to frost the Glass. Or You'd have to simulate some kind of curtain or something that was in the bay you know if you wanted to keep the luck of the windows you'd have to figure out something other than looking at the back of the cabinet right. Yeah now I would also You know really think about not removing the windows because the person that buys your house next is definitely going to want the window. And they're gonNA tear out your heart your trae exactly all right..

I think my head on doing something like An IBM in wrapping it. I don't think you need to go with Dubai on terms of screwing it on. It's not load bearer bringer anything Also if I wanted to put some runners on an I beam and I probably have so I could screw to it. one by. I would probably glue the shit. I probably put like construction. Adhesive on it you know pl four hundred or something like that. I would put it where I wanted to put it. And I would clamp the shit out of it and then I would put a couple just a couple of strategic screws like like through like not in bulk like just through screw in a couple of places but spread it out like four feet. You know what I mean. It's just put the construction. He's on a clamp down and just put a couple of screws in it very sparse. That's how I would do it but I would think I would. "Com are so we got an email question from Craig will keep it in the realm of tiles eysenck. Shurmur had a shower with two inch by two inch floor tiles. That are seeping water in specific area. The shower hasn't been used for over a week but the grout lines are visibly wet. Initially I thought there was a leak in the pipes but I confirm that everything was bone dry after I opened up a small access panel in the closet behind the shower and checks the sub floor through the crawlspace. My guess is that water is collecting between the shower pan and the base mortar through cracked or poorest. Grout LINE I do I. Dry out. The water can reseal the grout while they're still moisture trapped between the PAN and the child's banks. Okay so that's interesting because a lot of times people don't realize. Is that the mortar bad. That's your shower. Pan Floor stays wet. Most of the time it's always gonNA have moisture to it but it sounds to me like there might be a leak between the drain and the mortar bed. Well let's let's go over the shower pan. A shower starts off being framed out like any other like a small all closet complete complete with a plywood floor sub floor. You know if you're up off the slab and if you're not on a slight Then you plummet you. Put the drains and and event they hot mop it or they put a membrane down. But let's say then they flash it up the side actually before you do the is before you before you do paper and then you do a little bit of mortar to slightly angle it then you go into your hop and then yeah yeah you get it. Drain it you do. Do Your mortar get going paper. It then hot mop it and the the drain has a drain. Your shower drain has a drain where the water comes in the top but it also has we polls working rain down into underneath the finish height of the tile correct correct and then those we pulls can leach moisture into the the mortar bed itself and sometimes if the more bed was done wrong. There could be a a vein or a river going through the mortar. Bill that's going to that area or maybe to your point the grout join after you've tiled it is so porous no one ever seal that that it does continue to get wet but it looks like a lot of moisture to me but just a we got this right. I'm I'm standing at the shower Pan Deli yet. I'm staring up at the picture of the shower. Pan Sandwich number seven number seven. Yes so the first thing they have is plywood. Second thing we have is a light. Mortar bed that's that is guiding the water toward the drain correct. Then we have paper. We have tar paper and we have hot mop taller going up they were or membrane and also flashing up the side probably eight inches or six inches will usually go twelve twelve as that much. Okay go up the side then. We have mortar again on top of it but this time. What's the drainage on that mortar? So the more so than the mortar comes to drain a sloping toward the drain to the top of the drain. Second mortar bed. Correct picturing are sandwich right and Thin set tile grout fee then so then around the drain where the where the cement is encapsulating the drain sometimes water can get in there continually if the drainage is not great and. It's puzzling in the shower. When you're showering and so I wonder if I wonder if he has good drainage in the drain itself otherwise it feels to me like it's just a you know it's coming from either where the tile the floor tile meets the shower wall draining of their and coming through there and coming down underneath maybe that's occurring so the the fixes for this could be caulking silicone all the way around the perimeter of the of the shower walls where they meet the floor and then also I would acid wash the tile floor get the ground clean and then put shit on a sealer on the ground joints and see if that helps you Just to be clear. The water from the shower is meant to permeate the grout joint. And it's meant to permeate mortar bad that the tile is on and travel underground so to speak to the hot mop and go in through the side of the weep holes a half an inch down from the actual top drain. It's supposed to be poor. That's right and then allowed her to it and a lot of times when people put in the the mortar better around the drain. It's recommended that you put Spicer's around the we polls to kind of provide a little opening before the cement touches the we pulse rise. There was like a little barrier so that water can then get through and then there's a space for the water to go into the walls and it's not just plugged the week it hasn't plug. The weep holes was Samat. Sometimes the installers. Don't do that and I've seen that CO create a bit of a problem with a wet pan underneath so that could be an issue too. We got one more question meant. Yeah let's see one last twitter question. This one comes to us from at J. Stack seven a guys finishing my basement. Any suggestion in covering the IBM and support posts. I'm in New York state picture. I beam all right. So I'm I'm I guess. He means steel. I beam although it's Kinda hard these days to under sometimes people may not being or that could mean a kind of Web. Joyce or something something like that but if you are.

"Thousand nine hundred seventy s tiled bathroom shower and all tips craddock's ashtec temporary. Fix this right up your alley band. I've done it. I've done it so many times. I've done it so many times. it's you know you need this aid to ask So everyone who's doing something like what are you asking something to do. You know like I. It's like when you build a loft you know and you'll see a guy build a loft and they'll put a post going down to the ground in the post there'll be a four by sex. O.`Neil Go. Wow that's pretty heavy duty the guy go like yeah man. I'm heavy duty man. That's who I am and I'm like well why not use a four by four? It's like 'cause I'm heavy duty. It's like yeah. But what are you doing up on that Loft? Are you doing? Are you putting storing transmissions up there or your fucking eight-year-old sleeping there you go over? Don't go pack as to what you need to do. You know what I'm saying. So it's like uncle go. You go like well how. `Bout you do the poxy spray or a poxy on the on the shower and someone goes. Well how durable is that you go. It's good enough. They go well. How Long Zach? Last sixteen years is that enough. What are you doing in the shower? Are you sandblasting in the shower? Or you having group orgy situations with morbidly obese people or is it just you standing there barefoot with water coming down and if you barefoot standing in the shower then how fucking durable does it really need to be like what I'm saying is it can't wash away but you at shit and you scuff it and you prime it and you would poxy it or you. Don't even probably prime it. You're probably just due to party. Poxy over it's good. You're one hundred forty pound chick WHO's barefoot? You're standing there. Lukewarm water rolling down. How a fucking durable is this. I told Time when I painted my refrigerator painting my Evans. They go we you. How durable I go I go. I don't know how durable is the paint on the hood of your car. How durable is it well? Yeah this is a refrigerator source. You fucking idiot. You're refrigerators hurling down a gravel country road at ninety miles. An hour is it. Yes running from a loveless marriage. So you're saying you're basically sally fields in smoking the bandit. I was not only sally fields. I Wa- I was her and smoke in the band and her in a bit of of The one where she has personnel. No normal civil civil. I was a little civil set for polling at deep gut. Well you walk. You made up for not getting the math on the last one. So yes you do. Good all right. We're looking at a bathroom. It's got kind of like Brown tile with white grout and she just wants to paint a Tub. She just wants to paint everything. That's that's Does I eight years while I'm making noises? I don't know how this is GonNa look for you. Just pick a color and paint everything. I it's going to be a little weird when I'm looking at I by the way people pay that to get reclaimed versions of that tile. Now that's the shame of it. People have wanted to find that stuff. Because it's that old vintage. Yeah they'll it's to be about forty tile. I mean it's really a bad to me but you can paint it You can look into companies to come in and do it. You know to do the TUB refinishing and do the shower refinishing and the tile look into companies. But also if you're going to paint it use a two part poxy and use a foam roller and make don't don't skip the roller the Weenie roller and the poxy department Yeah and also maybe. Don't do the floor but do everything else because it feels to me like the floor is going to get really. You know it's again. It's one hundred twenty pound chick walking in and out of the bathroom. But if you have shoes on that might wear that much more than the right I made. I made or won forty because I feel like the one twenty wouldn't do it herself. Good point the one forty is going to be sturdy and some of the isn't afraid to get in there and try and why because she's got muscle mask for best right and doesn't doesn't have a man. Okay Homework I want to ask you a tile related question Yes sir has tile is your thing man. Yeah Yeah it is. I'm getting ready to lay down. Some kind of large. Cast tile. Right stuff is probably. Did you find it and get what want I have settled on what I wanted? And the tile is approximately two foot wide to foot plus. I don't know twenty five twenty six inches wide or something and it's about five foot tall right and it. It's laying down on a perfectly flat even surface. Do I need to get those corner tiles? Space or riser hamper things little towers to make sure all the corners are all lined up. Are you gonNa have you gonNA have grout joints? They'RE GONNA be super tight like I don't know if there's a minimum you know a sixteenth or something I'd like to go Kinda grout Certa rattlers joints but is there such a thing there is. I mean. Look unless you're first of all to parts I if I know you have a good is so you could get around using the Spicer's the reason that you use the space as to keep uniformity in terms of the with the begrudge. Join if you're just GONNA I'm not talking about just I'm not talking about spacer. Sorry I'm talking about the height corner even irs. I'm ties those are you. Are you going to set them in a bed of mortar? Or are they all going in the same comb trowel application? They're all going in the same notch trowel application? I don't think you need them then. Okay good yeah and and and as far as the GROUT joint goes I'll probably just together just like have crowd. Do they have a slight mitre to him? The slight mitre would be for that appliqued for the groundless application. Yeah I mean some of those tiles have they design them so they've got just a slight mitre to 'em coming into the joint right and that's how it's a slide Polish surface. Also if they're just squared off I I would. Maybe say you could get away with more budding. I'm if they've got the mitre it's GonNa look a little weird grout. Might not sit. I don't know I would give a space a little bit little bit. Light if there's if there's space grouts not gonNA stick gotTa have something right. Alight Easter such a thing. It's just a pure grabbed outlets joint like where you just bought them two to one another. Yes if if the surfaces are so polished on the edges and perfect that there's no fraying or chipping on any of the edges. It's possible Aright DO What do you got? Matt? Oh well I do have another email question but before we get to that maybe Schumer can take care of a little business for us. Well I sure can't I wanted to know question? Do.

"Just curious for your thoughts. Well I will. I will tell you for my perspective with this architect that I'm working with because I because Mrs stromer wants big huge openings that bring the outside in and the inside out so having said that I have to have a fair amount of steel or large headers that are going to allow for a larger size window at enact case. Then I'm going to be limited if I use would versus steel. Also all of it is great. We're examining all those things. Thank you for bringing up. I will look into it but it has to be big openings for me Yeah now he's talking about framing techniques you're talking about openings in spanning opening so there's a little cross pollenisation here but it's not apples to apples What he's talking about is I don't know a lot about new age framing because I've not done much of it and as a matter of fact some of the stuff I've done recently doesn't incorporate that I've been doing sheer walls and things like that. I can tell you some of the things about that So normally Framing would be sixteen inches on center. What this person is saying is if you do sixteen on Center and he dropped. Batts of insulation in between the Bays which are thirteen and a half inches or is it fourteen and fourteen and a half lost. My lost my fastball. Here stromer I'm losing it now. No you're not you're in the bunker. It's all good. That was That that that was a sea level mistake. I just made there. That was That's Bush League. What I just did no team all right. Do you have a fourteen and a half Inch Bay you drop your drop your batts of insulation in there but the wood doesn't have a great value the wood itself. So if you're using that much would that often you're going to compromise your our value. So what he's saying is instead of using two by fours sixteen on center us four by fours and spread them out and thus then properly insulate the bay which has stripes of growing out basically. You're doing the twenty four on center model like a like a framing of joists in ceiling. He's what he's saying Forty eight and four by fours. I you know who knows what the State of California would let you do. But he's also talking about going with different header material. Instead of you know traditionally just put a four by eight up there span. Six or whatever he's talking about doing a steel or in a smaller header obviously the less lumber in the wall the more insulation. You can get in the water if you think of it that way. So at the end of the day instead of having thirty percent lumber you'd have eighteen percent lumber and that much more insulation since the would doesn't have a high value I get it I do it I and also you know framing sixteen on Center. I just did a bunch of sheer walls. This way. Not only did I have to do sixteen inches on center framing for the sheer wall. But every four th every third or fourth one had to be a four by because they now require where the sheer wall where the plywood or the OSB comes together. It doesn't come together on a two by four together on a four by four daylight right right so I just framed the shit out of this Warehouse in working on with not only sixteen on Center. Two by fours four by fours woven in as well I like it I would like us to hurry up and get there I can tell you that the inherent problem is most framers or just old school framer guys and they do it. Go wants to learn right now. No one wants to learn and he doesn't WanNa learn either the city like Sixteen on center or two by two by four struck one CD and you got. Yeah but what do we need a? Why don't we do it this other way? It's like it doesn't because the no. No here's what here's what happens. 'cause I've tried this view times. Then they say oh. You need to Go Window D. Seven right you. Look at window descend. There's like thirty five people at the Van Nuys Department ability safety which represents three more hours of waiting with other covert nineteen people. So Hell No. I have I I told everyone. I won't relive the story but I went with a breather list gap air gap installation on my Fisher paykel Dishwasher many years ago and the inspector came by and he's like where's debris there and I'm like I went with the it says Age thirty six a here's installation with debris there and thirty six B. Here's with the loop in the air gap but no no actual breather on top of the counter top. And he's like yeah. I need to see a breather. You don't know you don't is that yes we do okay because he's old and they don't give a fuck no but I just went through this where I I had to fix a leak under my sink. This was one of my projects which is so fun. I hate being under there but anyway I reinstalled the dishwasher and I did put an air gap in because I didn't have one before and now I'm finding that the air gap is not working as effectively as how I used to have it. Plumped you had it you. Did you drill a hole in the countertop? No I replaced a sprayer. I tasked sprayer because it was leaking and I put the air gap in its place and I used to have two dishwashers and I took one out because it was a waste of space. Used it as a But now it's not draining like I thought it would when I used to. Just have two dishwashers. Hardwired in to disposal and the drain and it seemed to drain much better. Do you have any thoughts on this? Do you use an air. Gap in your in your. I don't think so. I've never used a dishwasher. I don't like dish wash dishes. Enthronement fucking Oh really yes. Everyone else freaks out about it. Listen everyone stopped telling me about fucking germs for the love of Christ. I don't get sick. You fucking idiots. Listen ASSHOLES YOU HAVE IMMUNE SYSTEM. It needs to work out. The reason you're all fucked up is because you're using the dishwasher and using parral. You don't realize that that compromises you that weakens U. that you're like a fucking astronaut living in a space station. You need some fucking gravity. Your world needs to work out. Well let me tell you something anyway. Every every kid we ever had playing at the House who had quote unquote allergies. Yes went to their house. Their parents were the ones that did all the disinfecting in that Korean sanitizer and they didn't have any ability to acclimate to real world. Problems right one day. One day there's GonNa be a knock on my door and I'M GONNA go. Who could that be? And I'm going to open it and it's going to be a giant floral arrangement on an easel. Like when you win the Kentucky Derby said giant Laurel with lowers and. I'm going to say to the guy. What is this and he go? He's going to go. It's an offering from the world for being wrong. Your entire calling you an idiot. We now have seen that everything from the corrective helmets that the cranial specialist wanted you to wear to third hand smoke to AIDS an equal opportunity killer to the air gap. Two Zero Two sunscreen and to antibacterial. So we're all wrong Mr Curl the entire world has been wrong and we're so sorry. I know we've made fun of you for saying you don't use so we made fun of you for saying you don't use barral made funny for eating shit off the ground. We make fun of you for not wanting us a washer rinsing plates in the sink and letting them drive. We are so sorry collectively as globally collectively and globally. Here's an apology. And here's the addendum. The next time you float a theory we're going to listen. That's right we're no longer GONNA line. You know who's going to be standing at the front door. Don't you Cooper Anderson Cooper Anderson Cooper all right? So the air gap. This is interesting because you swapped out your pump so Hans Freyer. What's a hand sprayer? You know like when you're the host. Okay you did that. The thing that's funny about me is the house. I did. Had the pump like soap thing. Same thing or you know hand sprayer whatever and the inspector is like. Yeah sorry man. And he'd see and he'd see a breather up there and I'm like okay come back tomorrow and I just pulled out the fucking Soap Dispenser. Put the air gap in. He signed off on it. And while the guy's truck was backing down my dry undoing. It put the fucking can put the soap dispenser back in and do the little Something is with your situation. And as far as dishwasher goes because the air gap or the the snorkel or whatever the fuck were calling its tried and true and that she has worked for sixty five years right does it should work fine. If it's properly installed so something is amiss some little to mess maybe a hoses kinked. Maybe when you're pushing the unit back in kinks something could sometimes when you push things back in in. Uh The the thing. About dishwashers is it's really not much of a science in terms of installation it's like the cabinet guy leaves a box. That's you know. Twenty eight by twenty four by thirty six. Hi whatever and then you push this thing in and put a couple of wood screws in the ears and the tabs and the side is really the hose is just kind of gathering the back and could king or whatever said a real science you know. Well I'll tell you what is a science and I'll tell you what I suck. Asset is plumbing. I mean I hate it. I whenever I have to do it in emergencies. It makes me really anxious. I've had full-on like I remember the day before hours to get married to my first wife. Mrs Stromer One. I was married to her for three hundred sixty days really she. I knew it was wrong in my gut. I was under a sink. I was taking the traffic about an all. The dirty gross water went into my own mouth. I sat up hard and hit my head on the thing and then I literally got out of the job and just ran down the street screaming and crying until I collected myself at a tree and I was hyperventilating and people are like what's the matter and I was like I just did I- disavowed said nothing to them. I also while I was urinating about a week before the wedding passed out and woke up with my own penis in my hand. Passed out really realizing that your body tells you the truth before you actually take action but the plumbing just makes me crazy. I like the quarantine show because I feel like it's bringing out a part of stromer that we weren't aware up was like an after school special when you're running through the wilderness and and hitting the switch brush and crying hysterically. Someone's chasing you saying it's GonNa be okay but it wasn't okay. Why because it was the wrong relationship but God bless America here AIA twenty two hundred years later with the beautiful Mrs Strawberry? I had that feeling I had that feeling about my first marriage as well. Who are you married to? I know same woman Mary but I had that feeling I all right. We got another question tons more questions. You bid on that one didn't you you listen. I love you softball pitches all the time. So if you're not already following us on twitter please do so at a summit house you can find out when we're taking phone calls if we ever get back to the real world in the meantime we got a tweet from April underscore. "On at to get it on get on mandate get it on and welcome to a special episode of Ace in the House. That's rare o-negative corona. Get it on corona gated on stromer. Is it his Spacious abode. I'm in the bowels of my home. And My Built the theater and We're doing at them. The the background on your theater makes it look like you're in a holy place because that foam pattern. It's absolutely gorgeous. I'm sitting in the back row as far to the right as I as I can and I don't know why but I've decided I'm I'm in the corner. I'm SORTA like a cat like it in the corner like it on top of the fridge. I like to keep my eye on everything you know what I mean. Well or or God as they say though that's right so what are you working on stromer? Well I decided I was going to get into insane home reorganization. Because now now it's that thing where you open all the drawers and you realize you don't. I at least I don't. I'm sure you do but I don't know where anything is. I don't know where any of my home tools are and I realized. Wow this is pathetic because I'm always running out doing stuff right now. Oh I've completely reorganized many many things now. The downside is the rain. Kinda got me with my trench-digging my finishing of Irrigation. All right basically obey old mudhole but the good news is. I was able to clean out a bunch of crap in the house unbelievable. It's never been better I. There's something that drives me insane and I think I'm affected by more than more than others. You tell me when you're talking about organization I have this thing where I love organization and I it And my family's doing the organization thing to they organized in the living room and watch. Tv Now they organized in the bedroom and watch in the theater and watch a movie but I have an aunt problem for some reason. I don't know how ants work they're not there and then they're there and it's not based on anything it's just we have ants in the kitchen and then we don't have a inside the kitchen we do and it's not like well. Did you leave a picnic? Basket out overnight. No we do what we always do. Just aunt so get a thing like Lysol you know clorox spray cleaner. Whatever and it's you hit the ants on the counter and it kills them all right so we kinda run low on EH. But it's a good looking spray bottle and so I go take some rubbing alcohol and I poured the rubbing alcohol into thing and lineup the thing which and it's killing the aunts and sterilizing at the same how this is close. Then I just leave the lie so bottle with the alcohol and it just sitting on top of the counter top because ants move in every time you move out you comeback. There's more ants and it's cheap. You kill him but at some point I get up. This morning. I Go look the countertop. There's new aunts and I go all right killing time. The lysol bottles put away now. Here's my point. I don't know where it is. Now all got will show come in and she'll go. I put it away. I was right here. And she'll open a cupboard above the oven and it's right here I'll go. I don't know it's gone. It's gone I don't know it is. I go in the bathroom right under the sink. And it's like but I don't know I don't know where it was like. She she expects you or other people. Expect you that you don't their system and they don't know your system and your seems obvious because the there is there for the ants to kill them. Why would it away well? So let's go. Let's just really breakdown. The downside of having a spray bottle on a counter top in a giant kitchen. When there's seven hundred linear feet of countertop? Is it really that big are we? Vat Anal retentive. You know I mean like couldn't just sit here overnight would be the real deal and why is it out? There reoccurring an issue. Or isn't there and then I have Mike my countertop is strewn with coffee makers toasters and bottles and hot sauce and widgets and gadgets I go. Why don't you let this live amongst them? Yeah I know I view I think that almost as a man thing versus a woman thing because I love just leave and stuff when I'm cooking I wanted to be there so I can reach for it and it's there. Why do I have to go into a cabinet defined the thing? I use every five minutes right so then I got up. People don't feel this way so then I stood in the kitchen naked and afraid because I have aunts now and I don't know how to kill him so then I go to the closet. Where all the cleaner sprayer shit is because like well if someone put it away why not just put it in the closet with all the cleaner stuff? I mean if in fact here's the other thing I don't like well here. Well let me just interject the problem with you naked spraying the ants is that you can't do any squatting because you'll clearly as I know how you are we'll step on your own. That's right and scrotum scrotum already feeling the sting of the cold tile a so now. We're in this other. Were in this other area which is okay Olga. You put the stuff away. Fine. I'm GonNa go to a closet where it goes but it's not in there. It's put away somewhere in. The kitchen is my point. And I'm going to have to find it. But then you get into this. Conundrum will kill an ant. This is a this is a a show so you reach for the simple green and he go Simple Green that killing an then you reach for the white vinegar with water spray bottle would vinegar killing an I know. Alcohol seems to work and now I'm in this weird. No Man's land of will it allow fucking an so. Here's my question to you stromer. Yes Sir where's that Guy? Damn bottle and I guarantee it's just going to be in a cupboard right near where we are GONNA go. Put It away in the cover. It's like okay. You didn't say anything. Yeah I'M GONNA say I see it from worm stay up. I'M GONNA say oh go because I have my own version. I Have Yolanda. And Yolanda generally hides my things where she puts all of her cleaning supplies So I may WANNA check cleaning client. Check cleaning closet. That's what make it that far. It's gotta be in the kitchen all right. Should we take washed? I did have the ant problem too. I always do so. I've sprayed all the sprays I've tried all things. Ultimately you know what really seem to work the best Unfortunately the exterminator doing the perimeter spray Yeah we'RE GONNA have to act good old-fashioned than eight Paul We got a question. Yes we do and hey now more than ever we need your video and email questions please. Email them to us ace on the house at Adam Corolla dot com or good ace on the roof dot com..

"the house" Discussed on The House of Lee NYC

"How to have a Christmas tree. When you can't or don't want to have one a rather, you want one, but you can't or don't want to have a real of physical three. D Christmas tree in your house. I. I would like to say. Thank you so much for staying with me. Tuning in and sharing the show with your friends and your family also I would like to ask that you continue to share the show that least two other people who you find might enjoy hanging out with us. You know that's you and me. It's so easy. Just click share in your favorite podcast, listening APP or just ask their permission to subscribe them for them with their phones. You know how it is. Or direct them to house of Leeann. WIESSEE DOT COM. Thank you so much. Lower. So today's how to for simple life for simplified life I should say is from my friend's Shantelle Burkhardt. She works for the Deutsches Haus at Nyu, and you know the Swiss and the Germans. They really know how to do Christmas and here's the thing, so. Chantal said that she was going out of town back to Switzerland actually and so her family here wanted a tree, but they didn't want. WanNa treat if you know what I mean. And she came up with a charming, simple, lovely elegant solution, and I'm going to post a picture of it on social at House of Lee Nyc, so please follow the show which means you're following me, thank you. And it's really this. It comes down to getting some garlanded of any diameter or length you like. War Or Green. Yarn, and Using it to create on your wall, a Christmas tree outline outline of a Christmas tree now tell used a hot glue gun. In my head, I was like Oh for a rental I'm not sure what that would do to the wall on the other hand. Hot Glue is just kind of dry rubber. Right in a way. I mean I don't know the the actual breakdown of it, but it seems like it might not harm the wall, but if you're really concerned, it was going through my mind thinking well okay if I were. Were going to do that on my wall? What would I use instead of a hot glue gun? You could use painter's tape. You could rip off a big strip a lengthwise rollet, so it becomes like a double tape kind of an action, or you could use those command strips right, and you could also use that poster putty you know depending on how heavy the Garland is or the yarn that you're? So it's really cool and I'm going to show a picture of it, and then the other thing is what chantal does in. Her House is on each day that the tree is up until Christmas is. She puts up an ornament inside the outline of the Christmas tree, and you'll see in the picture. She's got a couple of little charming, cute, little bell like ornaments on the wall inside the outline of the Christmas tree. It's so adorable Oh. My Gosh, and it makes perfect sense now I'd always. Thinking well, if you're like me and you don't have any real estate on your walls, because it's all tied up with pictures, and or maybe you just have a small apartment like I do. And that the walls are configured kind of oddly I guess. What you could do is you could take a piece of paper and make an outline of a Christmas tree. That way don't you think or maybe put it on a cabinet, and of course a fix? It was something that doesn't ruin the surface of whatever you're putting the Christmas tree outline on all my gosh. It's so cute, but I as one who loves Christmas. Really appreciates tip because there may be a time when you or I, we don't have the wherewithal to have a physical three d tree, real or plastic, whichever no judgments, and so this is a charming and yet elegant solution. So thank you so much. Chantal and I might add that if you've never been to Germany or Switzerland at Christmas time, you should really. Really, check it out because they know how to do Christmas and while I've never been to Switzerland. This is what I've heard. This is what chantal has mentioned, but I have been Germany several times as you know, my husband is German, and so the Christmas markets actually think originated in Germany and so they're so charming, and the lights are are so holiday. For lack of a better word or description so much fun, the holiday spirit is in the air, and so that is might tip for Christmas trees. If you want one, but don't want one and I would think that you could do the same thing with the Minora If you didn't have room on your table top for one or counter space, you could make an outline of one as well I guess you could use a gold or silver or metallic yarn or Gold Garland. That could be kind of cool. Thank you so much for listening today? I know that you've got other options and I really appreciate you hanging out with me and let him be part of your day and again. Thank you so much. Please do share this show. If you feel up to it, thank you. Take care and we'll talk soon. Bye Bye! And happy holidays. Bye Bye..
