On the Capitol Beltway in Maryland, a slow ride now all of a sudden from just before Old Georgetown Road to a point beyond Connecticut Avenue. Hopefully, that is just all. You haven't heard of any new incidents in the traveling slowing from New Hampshire Avenue toward Georgia Avenue and through Prince George's County. The outer loop still slow from about Route 4 past 214 Central Avenue to a point near Route 50, the John Hansen Highway. On the subject of that, across the Bay Bridge on Route 50, westbounders still slugging it out across Kent Narrows. It's a very slow ride with only two westbound lanes, three lanes flowing east for the moment. On 301, we had crash activity southbound through Bowie near or just after Route 50 near Harborway. Left Left and right side was blocked by that. In Virginia, you hit the wall southbound about triangle and it stays very, very sluggish and steady all the way to a point near or just beyond Falmouth, westbounders, you are very, very sluggish coming through Fredericksburg trying to get toward Falmouth yourself. We had the earlier crash just after the Rappahannock River Bridge northbound and that now is clear. New issue in Purcellville is going to be on 7 Westbound near Berlin Turnpike and that is blocking the left lane. Mobile offer requires 100 megabits per second Internet and new unlimited intermobile service. Traffic and weather on the 8th. Here's Joe. Dan, we've been talking about all the storm closures around the region, but rest the of the area started to wake up now, which is not always a good thing. Let's get started. Montgomery County, Quince Orchard Road, just south or west of 270. We have some heavy police activity there, so use Watkins Mill to Cloper Road as your alternate around that should you encounter any closures. The big story of the hour continues to be the closure of the George Washington Parkway that is closed in between Spout Run and the Capitol Beltway. You can use 66 as your alternative in Virginia. Clara Barton Parkway is open, but Canal Road, once you continue, will only take you as far as Reservoir Road. Then you'll be the up hill and into Georgetown to continue your journey there. But up in the Palisades and Wesley Heights, as Dave Dildine has been talking about all morning, is where we have lots of street closures. Nebraska, Loughborough, McComb Street, and Foxhall all closed in different places, as is MacArthur as you get out into Bethesda and Cabin John. Again, follow police direction. If you get east of Rock Creek Park, you're away from most of the street closures. On Georgia we Avenue, do have some fire activity at Otis Street, just south of the Petworth Metro. On 202 westbound under the Beltway, we've got a crash with some delay there. Use caution as you're getting off the ramps from the Beltway to go inbound on 202. And elsewhere on the Capitol Beltway in Virginia, we've got a crash in the left lane just after the Eisenhower Connected before Van Dorn Street. That's taking up the left lane with a brief delay. Stay to the right to get by. 95, we're starting to see some delays build now as you cross the Occoquan. And then briefly, through Prince William County, you're in good shape with all lanes open after you get past Triangle. Northbound 95 is moving well. Express lanes are pointed northbound. No problems at the Bay Bridge. Jiffy Lube service centers keep you moving from oil changes and tire rotations to filters and wipers to a full range of services. "Guests and those that come on to chat with us no doubt about it And some of them especially so for their ability and willingness to go to a lot of places with us from an informed vantage point We talk politics economics investing so much more And one of those individuals is Alan Patrick cough an early venture capitalist who helped build and grow such companies as oh you might have heard of these Carol America online Office Depot This computer company that was once called Apple computer Also audible He's got a great sense of trends to watch Thanks to his experience as a venture capitalist for wow half a century It's a long long time Alan Patrick is Germany Meredith cofounder of gray Croft He's cofounder of prime time partners We talked about a lot of things Here's some of our conversation Well we're starting a period of euphoria as we ended 2021 And I don't see that diminishing certainly in the near term there's a lot of money washing around in the institutional market in particular And that's your performance has been exceptional in the past 12 months to 24 months So everybody is feeling quite euphoric and I don't see anything that's going to change that other than a surprise and I've been in this business long enough to go that surprises which are what they are called a surprise is the one thing that kind of shakes everybody Venture is not affected by interest rates It really is an effective by inflation because all these companies are we invested are so early on that they kind of can override that with their growth trends So where are you seeing areas of interest for 2022 and where are you seeing areas of focus at least for venture capital funding If it is going to be another big year for venture if it doesn't mean another big year for investments and returns where is that going to happen specifically Well selfishly you know I started in the last 18 months in new firm gold prime time parts which is an area that virtually was a white space which is anything that serves what I call the ageless community which is enormous at getting bigger and will be the largest part of the population by 2030 Growing faster with more money and the elder older generation is living longer and there are so many things that they need specifically in terms of product services technologies experiences and it's not the same as the millennial generation where most of the focus adventure has been But I see that as an increasing trend we kind of had a little bit of ourselves in the beginning but I could see already that others are encroaching on the air on the area And then that names you would recognize because they're all relatively early but I think over the next year or two you're going to hear names like a place called mon which is the one perhaps that's known But it's an increasing trend So that's my focus on prime time In terms of grade crop we are continuing to be interested in FinTech there's been a lot of interest in every form of new kind of deal banking any place that people can buy money we have a company called public which is a hate to compare but similar to Robin Hood the sense that you can buy in very small fractional interests and payment systems are increasing all the time we have a company that's dealing in Africa called flutter wave which seems to have no end It's like the square of Africa and growth has been enormous So it's syntax is a big big area of investment You mentioned earlier for our global audience about how there's a lot of money sloshing around That money sloshing around can go into some really great interesting places Is there any concern that some of that money is going to go into places that is bidding up areas that are going to make no sense in years to come And I don't know whether it could be crypto NFTs spacs just curious what you think You're bringing up the controversy I always exist is whether there's too much money chasing through few deals I think that we have a lot of large sized funds without naming anyone in particular but what's your hedge funds or large growth funds When you see funds that are being raised at ten and $20 billion and trying to put money to work in the later stages of growth companies inevitably you're seeing bigger demand and just a limited supply of companies that can absorb that kind of capital So they're going to be excessive I don't think you could translate that specifically to crypto to NFTs which are each one has its own its own area of focus NFTs is the latest on the horizon and I think there's a lot of interest And I think it will sort itself over time Hey Alan I hope we may We've got a few minutes left here And I'd love to ask you a little bit about you've got a book coming out in May no red lights reflections on life 50 years in venture capital and never driving alone Looking forward to it And I hope when it comes out you'll come on and talk to us about it Tell us about why you wanted to write a book It's nice to ask actually this is the first time anything about the book has actually been on the air at any form So this is a first time Because it was just released on Amazon for preorder this week I've been asked for many years to write down things that happened in my life And because I being around in the business 50 years actually I did an investment business 65 years but this to the venture capital business 50 as you come become a legend just by living long enough And so I am a living legend I used to be the founder of invention industry then I was the father of it then I became the grand Plaza of it I don't know what the next day that would be I'll be the former And so you know I spent the last year or two writing this and I hope it will be a bit just as some people It's really designed to honestly the real reason is I am 87 I just tied a track coach to try to walk run the marathon next note Wow Good for you I live a very active life as you announced my two affiliations And I want to be an inspiration to people and say if I can do it I keep going at this stage Why can't you That's Allan Patrick off Chairman emeritus and cofounder of gray Croft cofounder of prime time partners as well His new book coming out this year it's called no red lights reflections on live 50 years in venture capital and never driving alone It's due out in the spring I'm so glad we got to talk to him about it a little bit and I can't wait to actually get into it with him once it's published And you know we kind of got the exclusive right We really talked about the book At all yet Basically it was pretty cool I think it was my favorite part of that conversation All right still to come and tell is about to relinquish its chip making crown to Samsung It's a symbolic blow for.

"In Singapore I'm Juliet sali And I'm Brian Curtis I'm in Los Angeles normally based in Hong Kong and looking at the Asia Pacific We do see losses across the board to me these losses feel a bit fragile like they may not last I often argue from the bullish side you probably know that if you listen to the show a lot But looking at TSMC's earnings a pretty solid and also the projections going forward and Jules just told us a few moments ago about fast retailing coming in that stock is up about 6.6% this morning So we'll see it is a Friday and you know we did have a lot of hawkish sounds coming out of the fed Juliet Well more fed officials sounding off on inflation Chicago fed president Charles Evans saying the fed could hike interest rates four times this year That's if inflation data doesn't improve quickly enough We need to get inflation back down in the ballpark of our 2% objective I think it's probably going to be at the end of this year It's going to be elevated I don't think it's going to be 3% at the end of this year And I think it's more likely to be two and a half as measured by the personal consumption expenditure Meanwhile outgoing fed vice chairman Richard clarendon said the Central Bank's plans to raise interest rates this year is justified within its new policy framework He added that once his supply chain problem eases the current inflation will prove to be largely transitory And up next U.S. retail sales numbers for December that'll be coming tomorrow morning at 8 30 Wall Street time Bloomberg's Michael McKee has a preview The Obama crime variant will weigh on the retail sales numbers as many bars and restaurants were forced to close during the holiday season Gasoline prices and auto sales also declined dealers struggling to get cars but it does appear core sales were strong Everything from toys to sporting goods and clothing Americans incomes were bolstered by a government fiscal aid and rising wages particularly at the lower end of the income spectrum the not so necessarily good news is retail sales will also benefit from soaring inflation as sales are reported in dollar figures Michael McKee Bloomberg daybreak Asia China Evan has dodged another bullish the developer avoiding what would have been its first to fall on a public on shore Bond Bloomberg Steven engel tells us more They had requested investors vote yesterday Thursday to a 6 month delay on a early payment schedule That was originally due January 8th Now the majority of those voters of investors yesterday approved it So we're assuming that that means it is a 6 month delay in that payment on the $707 million bond But again it just pushes things down the road further Have a ground has more than $300 billion in liabilities as of mid 2021 it has been prioritizing payments to migrant workers and suppliers based under orders from regulators to fend off any risk of social unrest Let's check in on markets We are seeing weakness across the board in a K two two 5 down by 1.3% We were mentioning uni clothes on a fast retelling though rising the most in March 2020 after its first quarter beat And we've seen the Japan 5 year note yield rise to its highest since January 2016 On Wall Street though it was a story about these tech shares tanking the NASDAQ down two and a half percent led by losses in Microsoft and Tesla and we saw treasuries jump with the ten year yield below 1.7% but it's not 1.71% The fed's Christopher Walla also saying that three 2022 rate hikes are still a good baseline We're looking ahead to the bank of Korea it may leave its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 1% according to Bloomberg economic signing the impact of omicron They think that that rate hike could be pushed out until February the be okay entering 2022 with a focus on reigning in inflation as is the theme across most of the globe of course it ended 2021 will above its 2% target Also just getting some data out of Australia with home loan values up 6.3% in November invest our own occupy loan values up 7.6% When it comes to the equity market in Sydney down 9 tenths of 1% South Korea's cost be off by 8 tenths of 1% WTI oil just under $82 a barrel and Brian the yen at a 114 to the dollar Yeah so we've seen some strength for sure in the Japanese yen All right it is now just about 34 minutes past the hour It's time for global news Well workers vaccine mandates on U.S. government orders have been struck.

"Court will hear arguments on the Biden vaccine mandates two of the rules hearing expedited basis and will start January 7th Pfizer's COVID-19 pill has gained clearance for emergency use in the U.S. for high risk patients CDC director doctor Rochelle Walensky says this is a very good thing but that vaccination is a first course of action New York recording a record one day case numbers California mandates booster for healthcare workers and double testing for kids before they go back to school UK now reporting over 100,000 new cases in a 24 hour period for the first time ever up from 20,000 a week to week Spain will reintroduce mandatory face masks outdoors But to put this in some perspective a couple of studies out today the one that the people have been waiting for South Africa study says those in the current fourth wave of infections are 80% less likely to be hospitalized That seems to be the trend More cases but not more hospitalizations In San Francisco I'm at Baxter this is Bloomberg Kathleen It's a story we love to hear This is the next phase of the coronavirus that it looks like it's losing steam We hope fingers crossed Let's get back to our guests now Stephen glass managing director and analyst at Pelé funds management To discuss the markets for ending 2021 we're going into 2022 Steven We talked about inflation You think the fed won't hike more than three times its key rate next year and inflation will level out in the second half And I want to look at your investment outlook now because you have one view of inflation stays higher for longer which includes banks and if it's in temporary then you like growth companies Technology for example So what's your number one pick for a sector next year Well our scientists currently overweight financial so we do have a view on anything we think inflation to bigger risk and also we like the valuations there Tech and those and there's growth your names are generally very expensive I mean we can talk about the exuberance in the markets or the cows come home but that's where it has been centered So we are very valuation aware So net net we do have a bias towards those more call it more of a value of value trade more of a rotation into those types of stocks So we own it quite a few industrials and we own quite a few financials And you like Moderna a lot it seems Yeah Look I like it We do like it a lot We like it less after their recent results came out for the efficacy of their Omni crop up of the key vaccine as sort of a later omnikron and as it's on the news comes out So it's a very very interesting company The problem with this is quite binary So what we like about it is they've been using this windfall from COVID to reinvest back in the business and mRNA medicine shows a lot of promise And if they can actually develop it properly we do think that there will be a few from medicine and this could be it could be the medical world could resonate solution I think the problem is as well look it's just very uncertain if that will actually happen Just given the results we've seen from the most recent phase one flu trial So that's a very critical that the phase two results for the flu vaccine is a very critical juncture for the company and that'll come out second half next week I guess you have to have a little bit of patience with these kinds of companies You have a lot of ups and downs before you ring that bell In terms of banks I know you're also investing in Scandinavia So is it banks broadly you're looking at or there's Scandinavian banks or European banks you're in favor of We are in favor of European banks We think that their value actions are extremely attractive and also the European economy is more tilted towards industrial resurgence than many other economy certainly more than the U.S. which is more tech and consumer driven So we do like the European banks having said that we don't have massive positions in them in Scandinavia with a far more exposure to industrial So we own a company called Atlas copco which makes boilers and boilers they have a lot of wear and tear and therefore has a big service component And it's a very well managed company We also own shares in the company called epi rock which has a lot of exposure to copper mining That makes equipment for copper miners And we think copper has a very attractive outlook because electric vehicles use something like four times the amount of copper compared to internal bastion engines So we do like we do like the Scandinavian markets We do think there's a lot of opportunity there Okay from micro to macro I want to ask you again about growth It seems like bond market with yield on the ten year down last week to 1.34% It was looking for maybe a degree of trouble ahead and then today we get another pretty strong set of data with consumer confidence and also home builder sales is actually likely that growth surprises to the upside into next year Look it's very well could the consumer in the U.S. consumer is seemingly in fantastic shape we all know that they've got we've got their savings We all know about the job market It does seem.

markets today was the report on November retail inflation CPI rose last month at an annual rate of 6.8% and the debate now is whether these data will have a meaningful impact on the fed's thinking Lisa Charlotte is with Morgan Stanley she says the data confirms the fed is likely to accelerate tapering of asset purchases and bring forward rate hikes for Charlotte what's concerning now is the shape of the yield curve and what it may be signaling So one of the things that appears to be discounted is this idea that the fed remains behind the curve and that they're going to have to not only start hiking sooner but once they do so at a rapid pace The U.S. ten year treasury was lost quoted in New York at a yield of 1.48% The two year treasury has a yield of 65 basis points Against the "Governments are flushed with federal aid to take on new projects and they want to spend it Bank of America's strategists predict that the nation states and local governments will sell $550 billion of bonds in 2022 and that would mark a record year for municipal issuance and a sharp increase from where sales will likely end 2021 That's a Bloomberg business flash I'm Greg Jarrett In just a matter of weeks right now Bitcoin is up 1% At 54,000 All right great Jerry Thank you so much We appreciate that We're going to talk a little bit about the immune market coming up right now The focus on munis is brought to you by Bill American mutual When the market is unpredictable bam gives you certainty ban matured municipal bonds delivered default protection value preservation and a durable rating Ask your broker about bam insured municipal bonds That's a great segue into our friend Joe mice My sec is the editor of Bloomberg brief cover in all things municipals Joe thanks so much for joining us We always love chatting with you It means it's Friday and that's a good thing I want to go last week he was in studio by the way He said if Paul is not there I'll come in Okay so I've heard death from a lot I guess All right Joe I want to get to the issue JPMorgan They're being removed from a big muni deal in Louisiana And this isn't some 20 or $30 billion a $1 million deal to build a rec center This is a $700 million deal This is getting serious sign in Louisiana Oh you know mister Sweeney This is a national issue of pitting certain states who are very lean towards gun rights Against a handful of big Wall Street banks who said well we don't think it's a good idea to finance firms that put military style hardware into consumers hands And here you go Louisiana yesterday decided to remove JPMorgan Chase on a big $700 million deal Now the amount of money that JPMorgan loses on that is maybe 700,000 $750,000 in fees So it's not a ton But that is a nice sizable deal You don't want to give that up And this is a national problem I'm not saying it's going to be at all 50 states but I can see ten 12 more states take similar sorts of actions or at least threaten them And a lot of people concerned in the beauty market right now But it also in some sense is you're kind of damned if you do and you're damned if you don't Because when these banks say we don't care about politics we're just doing business They get harangued in Congress I noticed last time they were up the CEOs were up in front of a congressman and senators They were just constantly being ripped on for doing deals with oil because of climate change You know or doing deals with China because of the competition there And I guess you know when they do stick out their necks and do something political especially around guns or voting rights then they get business taken right away from them You know you know you hit it right on my head your dandruff should do and you damn the fit off JPMorgan caught in the crosshairs Earlier this week Citigroup by the way I bought a deal on Texas and city had been one of those firms that wasn't sure whether they'd be able to do business in Texas So we'll see how permeable some of these laws and the regulations are All right Joe I ride the subway twice a day And I understand that the MTA is not going to raise fares good thing But don't they have a big deficit I'm kind of surprised that they're not raising fares so what's going on in that part of the world Well you know earlier this week Michelle caskey covered the MTA meetings And the MTA is forecasting a $1.4 billion deficit to 2025 And this is down from what they had been projecting because ridership is increasing I think we're at well over half of where we were pre-pandemic But yeah you would think they would be raising fares rather than holding the line But what's happening is that they're getting money from Congress A lot of this emergency aid is being used and that's going to keep the schedule on and it's going to be no service for a while So those are good things They want to make sure that the subway is as presentable and nice and amenity as it can be to lure people back And it's so funny I think governor the other day governor hogel said in a speech that companies really want to call back their workers The story I'm sure you saw it on the paper the other day that said 8% of Manhattan office workers are back in the office full time 8 or 80 8% full-time Wow 54% or 40 about and everyone else is in a sort of hybrid mode where they come in a few days a week and work from all a few days a week So the MTA has never worked a day from home personally Yeah I'm not saying I look down on people who do But I never have that too Because of my resolve and strength The fact that you're living like half a block from The Office and the fact that my office was completely empty because every single other person in my office worked from home So I was under no You could live there You could have lived it I literally could have put a cot in there and slept there Joe it's always great to get your perspective Thanks so much for joining us Joe my sec there Editor of the Bloomberg "Wonderful. And this goes back to your Morgan Stanley days of an optimistic cast. Ron Temple was just on with Lazard and agrees with you that all of these signals are constructive signals for the economy. You don't talk about a 1 2010 year you talk about a 1 70 of 2% 10 year explain why that's good for America. Yeah, That's exactly right, Tom. When I looked at the 2021 forecast for the various banks and others we all did that over the last couple months. The one thing that stood out to me is a glaring mistake. And that was completely consensus. Everybody had the same view was the 10 year was going to end 2021 at 1.2%. Well, we're already there is John just pointed out, and I think we're going to go considerably higher and again, It's going to be a good thing. It shows that things are working that the economy is getting better, etcetera that the price of money Starts to go back up, and I think it suggests that it has big acid implication. Asset allocation implications. It means a bear market in U. S Treasuries. It means Tech suffers. You were talking about big tech. Not doing anything I wrote months ago that rising rates in the vaccine is kryptonite for Big tech. And so we want to think about innovation, not disruption, and we see With the Heip count from with this accident cetera, Thies air good things. These air investors looking for opportunities to get closer to the innovation, Early adoption stage of the innovation curve and we are in covert speed. We saw the model with intellectual capital in financial capital globally focused on a vaccine. We got it in 1/10. Of the historical time. This action is now moving to climate, the cyber tuf intact to crypto and that's where the energy is, and that's where investors want to participate. And that's where all this IPO's back action eye's coming from, and I think it continues in a 1.722% 10 year at the end of the year. The question is the pace talk if we get there in the next couple months gonna be problematic. We get there in the next couple of quarters, no problem. And now introducing the cool of Jay Pelosky. Long Europe of the United States, J. Let's do it. Let's see. Oh, come on, let it slide last time. Let's go there to call call for 2021. What's going on? Non us, John. Okay. Okay. Nicely refined. Why not? Yes. Well, well, look. Well, I'm of the view that there are two huge things going on. One is that we're in an investment landscape that hasn't been seen for 50 years. We're gonna be in a global economic boom. The last time global growth was this strong. Was in the 19 seventies. None of us were investing at that point time. Secondly, the U. S. Is that a pivot politically Well, sorry, Tom s so we're gonna go back and ask you how it was back in the day. Secondly, the U. S. Is that political pivot point Moving from 40 years of government is bad from the Ronald Reagan days to big government is good. We have huge needs and money is cheap. We're going to go ahead and execute. Good politics. Good economics. That is asset allocation implications. Bear market in Treasuries Bear Market in the U. S dollar Cyclical value Non us outperforms Europe. Yes. Japan Yes. Emerging Markets? Yes. Commodities Yes, thematic investing. I didn't just from in the world that leads to policy driven markets. Thematic investing is where you're going to find Alfa in Alpha's necessary because the 60 40 Risk parody all that stuff of the last decade, 60 40 returned 10% per annum in the US over the last decade, the coming decade it's going to return. If we're lucky 1 to 2%. Well, that's thematic. That's exactly what we're going to go. This idea of what's a reasonable return to expect an annualized basis going forward. Let's say even if you do Alfa generation. Even if you manage to find the right opportunities what you people target given how much of the future we've already priced into now. Yeah, That's exactly right. Least I mean, you know a swell as all of us do that the pension fund community, the big huge pools of money target a 7.5% return. That's not going to be happening. The folks who do this GMO KK are others who forecast 75 10 year returns. The returns are dismal. Absolutely dismal. 1% 2% 3% at best, So to me the it's going to be a challenge. But the opportunity said is being provided. We're building almost in a way a new market right as we speak. And the opportunity said is in these thematics that you can participate in through different vehicles, including the E T F space, which is where I focus, the opportunity said is just fantastic. And so I think it's going to continue and you see this with Ark Ark. Is the example here. The poster child Of the day. But to me, that's what your opportunity said, is the question. For example, with Bitcoin, the question is no longer should it be a part of the portfolio. It's a question of how much Should be of the portfolio because it's still very volatile. But in the last couple weeks we've had two things happen. One Black Rock said it would allow big corn futures in the schoolboy allocation fund. I do global asset allocations. I now have to pay seriously attention because the big dog is going to be buying Bitcoin. Secondly yesterday, Bank of New York Mellon said it would settle Bitcoin, the biggest custodian. It's a done deal. So these things the climate Cyber Fintech, as I mentioned earlier to me, that is not 20% of my portfolio versus five months ago. Probably less than 5%. J. We got to go. All right, let's talk about the market a little bit. Apiece in market Watch is saying good things for this year. There's a 73% chance that the stock market will end 2021 higher than it ended in 2020. If this is the case, and we were to buy into this production, then why shouldn't we all be all in with the market right now? It's tempting ought to be, isn't it? Yeah, well, you know, we never want to be all in anything right. However, it's a great time to be in Resting right now, But we're telling all of our clients to be cautiously optimistic. OK, things they're flying high. Bitcoin is through the roof, although we don't invest in that personally for a client, But the market's flying high as well ended with all time historic highs in the end of 2020, it's continuing to look that way so far here in early 2021. It is possible that we could have 2021 higher than we did in 2020. But we don't want to have all of our eggs in one basket. We want to be very well diversified. And so that's what one of the recent couples that came into our office came in. For. They've saved $3.5 Million so fantastic job of saving and this is what we see. Often in this area. Heather is people that are approaching retirement or just in With a million to three million save, So the savings isn't the problem, but they came in. They are in their early sixties. They live in Sterling, Virginia 3.5 million saves, retiring in about two years. And the problem was one of the problems was they were taking on too much risk. Okay? Ah, lot of individual stocks a lot of equities when we put together our comprehensive plans for our clients that obviously includes an investment plan and we use this software called Risk allies. And it gives our clients a speed limit. Between zero. You're stuck on the highway, not moving. Okay and 100. You're flying down the highway in a Ferrari and the chances of a crash are likely right or are much more possible. The way they were invested. They came in at an 80 pretty high for a couple in their early sixties is just about to retire. They wanted to bring that speed limit down to about a 60. Or another way to think about that is on a scale of 1 to 10. Lot of people say they want to be like a five to a seven. Okay, right? Because then you're not a nine or a 10. And you're not a 01. Yeah, right, So they wanted to come down to a 60. Well, what does that mean? We needed to help them to reduce risk, and one of the measures of risk is called standard deviation. Okay, It is a measure of risk that we use in our planning, and we have a huge eye on our client's downsides and how much they could potentially lose in the market as well as The returns on the upside, See if we're just focused on the upside and what we could potentially earn, and we look at the past and we say, Man, this thing could do 10 15% of whatever it is, and we're not watching the downside and the risk we're taking. That is a problem, giving an example the standard deviation on some of these major indexes out there like the S and P 500. Other indexes his 27 or 28. Ah, lot of our portfolios. The standard deviation aims and shoots for a six to an eight. Okay, so if we can get S and P 500 like returns, or if we can kind of compete with the market and major indexes and overall market and kind of being that range long term with the portfolios with a much lower level of risk, right, who wouldn't want that? And you know what many pre retirees and retirees want and need that? So we help them to really squeeze and press down standard deviation. We helped them to bring that 80 down to a 60. That's much more in line with where they wanted to be. With the rest are taking on their investments. That was one way that we help this couple. You make mention about how many people of a certain phase in life want and need a certain thing, But I believe for a lot of us. We just have no idea that we have options like the ones that you were just pointing out. I'm sure that this couple that came met with you did not realize this. Maybe they didn't even realize the risk that they had before. They even found out about the options they were looking to find. This is What goes into all of the work that you do with in your office. Working to help people really get a clear picture fully understand what's happening with their money? "Now. This is a teaching moment. Just go straight to the source. Exactly. Yeah, I just got I got pinned earlier this week. Hey, no, no. My screens were turning on. What do I do? It's like, hold on. Let me let me read to me. Let me get that for you Remember that? It was a Saturday night Live move. Move your company Computer guy. Yep. Kobe wanted to make sure I have wheels on my chair. So you just push me Weren't exactly it's a fair request. And what's good? I feel also, whenever I get ready to submit an I T Tech and I begin with first of all, Yes, I have tried rebooting that Z e did unplug it to no avail Employed did. I replied that I tried rebooting. I want you to know I've taken these first steps. Gotta love it. Yes, So it's interesting, though, and I bring it all up because I feel it's a fair point. And it correlates to the conversation we have here as far as how often in life were taught to rely on something. And it's fine as long as everything is fine, but the second it gets upset. That's what it sends us all into a very immediate frenzy, if not spiral, and it's like technology, right, like technology, everything fine until it's not fine. That's correct. And I feel as though when it comes to our money and investing and saving for our future, What do we get told our entire lives, right? Invest in the market? Just put your money in the market. Everything's gonna be fine. You're gonna be fine every that's just keep doing that, and Yet we have seen over the course of history the past couple of decades. What happened in 2000? What happened in 2008? Fortunately, the market recovered from last March. But that could have been a very different case scenario. There is a peace and market watch that, saying there is, in fact a 73% chance that the stock market will end 2021. Higher and then it ended in 2020. So let's just say we buy into this prediction then, guys, why should we not just be all in with the market right now? That's a great question, but really, if you have done your planning correctly, Part of your money should be all in with the market. Okay, Because you cannot guess this stuff. You know, I go back Toulon. Trump was first elected. Ah, lot of angst in the markets don't know what's gonna happen, and we had four very good years. Right now. All of these predictions about Year to year. Good luck. Who knows? But if we've done it correctly, and you've got your short term money, you got your midterm money and you got your long term money, and not only that, but the different strategies where it's taxable, a tax deferred tax free. Then you can withstand the short term stuff. So if next year it doesn't turn out the way that you wanted it we've planned for that, and that's what you have to do. And if you're somebody, that's 60, we've spoken to quite a few people who are in that that range. Hey, I'm thinking about retirement. I'm picking my head up to kind of see what my life might look like. If I actually go through with this Number one. It just pays to know what kind of risk you have compared to the stock market. Just you really know. Hey, am I in the right spot, or am I taking too much risk given the fact that I'm You know, for it's years away five years away from retirement, possibly so that's one thing. But you also have to look at how volatile the stock market can be. For reasons that you can't control and Elon musk bigwig Tesla cars, rockets, battery power's all these things. He tweeted the other day used signal. That's all he tweeted that sent his nearly 48 million Twitter followers. I think he has to go buy the stock of a wrong cut the wrong company, and it was completely unrelated. It sent that stock up and ungodly amount. So if you look at this the day that he tweeted the stock rose about 60 cents. Yeah. And then the Friday after he tweeted it doubled in price. And then the following Monday, it rose 438%, and we're not saying Hey, you should go invest in Tesla's or in signal that S'more an example of what can happen an example of what can happen and Tweet can cause a stock to go up 400% over here, too. Let's be honest here. A tweet consent, the markets reeling Boer exactly, And that's it. That's the bigger threat there. And some people are even being banned from Twitter. From what? I have no idea what you're talking about. I don't know. Nobody has heard any of that nun. Hope they don't ban me. I've got a following. You got like I'm in influence. Heard it like eight people. Now I know it way do joke around and have fun. But to your point it is we started the show. I'm talking about how frustrating technology can be How paralyzing it could be one of feels that Interesting to see how it can be used to send the market into a frenzy accidentally like he was doing nothing to talk about stocks. He was just making a suggestion about a different platform. It's a continuing effort to prove how quickly things can fly out of our control. No matter how much planning and effort and work we put into trying to control our financial future, and it goes to just add on to all the different risks that we have to face and deal with. I want to continue that conversation. Colby just brought up the idea. Idea of risks and other things that are involved in that because we do we want to see the economy come back this year. Truth is that could be a double edged sword because that could also bring back inflation..
