Wildfires in France, Spain, Portugal, Croatia, and Greece have forced the evacuation of tens of thousands of people. Britain is under its first ever heat related national emergency, with temperatures forecast to reach a 104° for the first time Monday. Britain's are being urged to stay indoors and to hydrate and authorities are warning that everyone in the worst affected areas is at risk of serious illness or death and not just the most medically vulnerable. "So early that evening, around 6 p.m., she decides to clean the entire car out. One way or another, that should help her find the source of the smell. She grabs some books off the front floorboard to put in the trunk, and when she pops the trunk, she is completely frozen. At first, she thinks she must be seeing things, but then she realizes she's not hallucinating. There in the trunk of her Ford Taurus is a man. And before she can even look at his face, she knows it's Rick's senior. For a second, Kim S doesn't know if he's alive or not. She thinks that he might jump out and attack her, and she backs away screaming. But after that initial moment of shock, it's obvious to her that he's actually dead. He's already starting to decompose. His skin is discolored, and he's fully clothed in the fetal position, with his legs curled up and his knees against his chest. There's even dried blood coming out of his nostrils. Chemists calls 9-1-1 and police are stunned. I mean, this isn't exactly a common occurrence. And by all accounts, she's probably been driving around with him in the trunk for more than 24 hours. As far as they can tell and what's later confirmed by autopsy is that this was some kind of freak accident. Rick senior crawled into the trunk on his own and died of hyperthermia, which is basically overheating, combined with cocaine and alcohol intoxication. It looks like he got a copy of Kim S's car keys when he stole her purse. Police actually find the black handbag in the trunk with him and the keys in his pocket. Look at this, please also find a knife in the trunk. Now Rick senior was apparently known to carry a pocket knife, so I'm not sure if that's the knife they find or if it's another one. But Kim asks and the police think that he was planning to jump out and attack her when she least expected it, using the emergency release handle inside the trunk, which according to reporter Deborah hirsch of the Charlotte observer was working just fine. So investigators theorized that once he crawled into the trunk, he must have somehow gotten disoriented due to the heat and the drugs and the alcohol, so he wasn't able to carry out his plan or even free himself and detectives tell investigation discovery that prior to his death, Rick senior told friends of his that he was going to give his ex, Kim S, the surprise of her life. Now Jaime's mom Kim Frehley is at work when she gets a frantic call from her sister who tells her what's going on.

"The big 72 This morning at 6 So let's then go to this story This is from the Charlotte observer Nebraska state senator Bruce bosselman has apologized after he publicly cited a persistent but debunked rumor alleging that schools are placing litter boxes in school bathrooms to accommodate children who self identify as cats A Nebraska state senator has walked back his comments he made during a televised debate in which he referenced false rumors about schools providing litter boxes for children who identify as animals He now says quote it was just something I felt that if this was really happening we need to address it and address it quickly When I first heard about this story this morning on WGN radio I thought oh come on you guys He's clearly making a point about transgender students and self identifying as one gender when you were born is another and what are we going to do with the basketball team or the bathrooms It's an area of contention and now he's making a funny remark He's just being sarcastic But he was not And the only way I could assure myself of that was to actually listen to what he said so Nebraska state senator Bruce bosselman is worried about what they're doing in those schools what are we teaching them How are we accommodating them This is taken from his turn on the floor of the Nebraska state House And senator bosselman you are recognized Thank you mister president Good morning brasca Per se I don't have any issues with certain days Or the amendment I think they're fine I want to talk about something completely different but I guess I was oblivious to for some time that came to my attention this weekend And many people have talked to already know about this It's something that kind of took me back just a little bit And I'm a little shocked I guess is what I would put it It's called something called furries If you don't know what furries are it's where school children dress up as animals cats or dogs during the school day Then meow and they bark and they interact with their school with the teachers and that in this fashion And now schools are wanting to put litter boxes in the schools for these children to use How is the sanitary I'm going to have a discussion with CEO Smith about this This is something I think how can schools allow this to happen I think it's very disruptive within the school system I think it's very descriptive in this class I even heard from one person here recently said that a student identified as a cat and wanted a litter box and the school didn't provide the letter box so the student went ahead and defecated on the floor Really Really School administrators what is going on Nebraska Department of Education what is going on State board of education what's going on In some kids can't wear American flag walk through the school on their shirt and you keep them out of school and you kick them out of school but it's okay if they were a cat costume People have a litter box for them and that's fine I don't think so The other question I have is we're the parents There are some problems in our schools Those are going to be taken care of Administrators and others need to pay attention Listen up Because I think there's going to be some legislation coming really soon to start addressing a lot of these things If you don't address it yourself thank you mister president Where are the parents They're at the veterinarian Getting checked Sorry So before you do that you just get a laptop and you type in fact check dot org And it'll come right up Last December at a Michigan school board meeting one of the parents rose to speak The agenda that is being pushed through our schools is just in my opinion But somewhat nefarious when it comes to some of the activities So let's talk about fury furries It was addressed by a child A couple months ago that they are put in an environment where there are kids that identify as a furry a cat or a dog whatever And so yesterday I heard that at least one of our schools in our town has in one of the unisex bathrooms a litter box for the kids that identify as cats And I am really disturbed by that I am too So in each case a reporter called the school and they said hey and the school goes no that's never happened here But they didn't do that Now maybe you didn't call the school but then you think well but I'll just go online and see what the reporting on that is and oh wait here's a USA Today story about it It's not true Still I don't know if we did brackets because that's what we do now If we did brackets of the craziest thing ever said at a public governmental body I'm not sure if you're one seed still isn't Hank Johnson who 12 years ago Friday 12 years ago Friday Was at a hearing in the U.S. Congress and he was talking to a contingent of naval administrators I'm not sure who the person is that was talking to him but it looked like some admiral He had all the bunting on his arms and shoulders and so Hank Johnson the congressman from Georgia talking to this guy from the navy the navy wanted to put several thousand more people on the island of Guam They wanted to increase the presence on Guam Hank Johnson was asking him about that This is an island that edits widest level is what 12 miles from shore to shore and at a smallest level or smallest location 7 miles between one shore and the other Is that correct I don't have the exact dimensions but to your point sir I think Guam is a small island What's going on in about 24 to 24 miles long about 7 miles wide I don't know how many square miles that is Do you happen to know I don't have that figure with me sir I can certainly supply it to you if you'd like My fear is that the whole island will become so overly populated that it will tip over and capsize We don't anticipate that.

"A tight gibbs alex's run six races in the xfinity series this year he has five top five finishes and two wins winning this past weekend at charlotte also run the daytona road. Course joe gibbs grandson and the kid i understand and people will say oh. Yeah he's just driving the best car. He's driving good equipment. There's no doubt about that. But he's winning and running top five in that really good equipment and that says something that self doesn't it i mean it. Does it says this kid can raise. He's only eighteen but not be able to be plugged in like that even in good equipment and still post is winning finishes i i think it silences some of that that talk of. Oh you know. He's coming in and just daddy's money type thing you know he. I think he's proved as proved himself in the series so far. What do you think dustin. Yeah i mean you know it's it's it's a remarkable start to his nascar career to wins in the first six races and he's done a lot of fantastic things he's he's made a lot of Big moves the certainly the move that it was off into the grass and daytona at the road course was was quite a move off a restart There's there's a lot of things that he's doing well he still needs experience. I mean that's why these arca races are still important to getting laps and he still needs to learn and be able to put himself in different situations. It's just like you know where he's talking about the indianapolis five hundred well You know that was a battle between Ellul castro neves who was in his twenty first indianapolis five hundred and Alex polo who was in a second. And you know that was even talked about after the race that it was. You know i think simon pageant saying that that alex polo showed his cards too early and castro nevis was sitting there and knew what to do and i think the whole comment was made was it. It was as one person was playing chess and the other person was playing checkers. And that's based off experience and tie gives done a lot of great things And he's had some good battles but he also needs that experience i think. What's interesting with with the gibbs folks is that you know they still are seem to be restrained in how they're doing it It's not like hayes only twelve to fourteen races. Hey let's get them in in another car and run the rest of the season Or let's try to get another car out there and now certainly some that's related to sponsorship. Because he's running race without sponsorship so You know. I like what he's doing and it's a good first step and what the what joe gibson and and coy and what they're doing and trying to be very cautious and take their time and not rush him up there. I think it's going to be in chintzy. What the next step is you know. Obviously they didn't they went straight without going to the truck series and that was unique approach to it You know you gotta figure it okay. So next year. he's he would should be fulltime xfinity. You anticipate and is a year and and a third year and a half enough to move up to cop or is it. stay a couple years Type thing and then go from there and also that factors into the cup driver. Situation is for toyota. When you get you know a couple three years down the road while the think maybe they learned their lesson. Alex with you know. Obviously you know we remember that. They push joy llegado into the into the cup series admittedly before he was ready and that kinda backfired on him he's thrived since he went to pinski Same type thing for daniel suarez pushed him into copy early because carl edwards stepped away. So i mean maybe now they're looking at ties saying we don't wanna push him too soon. We've seen what happens when you do. Yeah i mean. I think there is that kind of fine line of giving him enough experience but not putting him into so many reasons where he's not going to be successful and then it's going to backfire in that way you were talking about and dustin mentions like those moments still i mean. I think we even saw that on saturday. He spun pretty early in the race there and was still able to drive back to a winning finish. But how can you sort of forward then eliminate those wrecks that come early earned so yeah i mean i think it's fine line. Of how many are you going to enter them in. I think that i. I don't think it would hurt them to see him in more races. Now that he's kind of been able to prove that he can drive these cars and do what he's done but you know that's gotta be tempered with sponsorship and these other drivers that are raising them. I say he's a pretty heady kid. Dustin i'd a chance to interview on the start finish line after the race and you know he was still running the arca race on. Saturday turns the crowd and he goes. Don't go anywhere. We got another one coming up later on. I mean being the crime. Let the credit helping to be playing promoter. While he's doing the whole thing he's learning he's learning and then he goes out and kills the field in the race. And i'll tell you one of the things that's also interesting is as you look at. How long to put him in there. You think about you know. Austin cedric is the reigning expanding series champion. And he was back in the expanding series this year for for penske to as opposed to you know they could have you know maybe could put him in the wood brother's car instead of having benedetto Based off that success you look at You know certainly you know chase briscoe. Was there for a couple years and working his way up and certainly look at the challenges. That chase birth goes add. Now the rookies of had. This is not an easy time for a rookie. Because there's no testing there's no at right now there's no practice. Obviously next year they'll be practice More races and i wanted to support at every race in. That should be helpful. It's still not going to be as much. I don't think as what it was. I don't think you're gonna see too. Many three day shows with with practice only on friday and the qualifying saturday and practice in the race on sunday. They gonna be today shows and condensed schedule so I think laps are important. And for thai gibbs i think you know for an austin syndrich. I think he'd probably tell you maybe for as much as he liked to be up at cup that he also recognizes how important it is to get laps. And i think it's going to be interesting with these these xfinity drivers to once they move up Especially next the next gen car that composite body You can beat the wall down a little bit. And and there's the forgiveness as opposed to the steel body cup cars. And you know. I one thing. I'm going to be intrigued about. is you know. Look at how. What ty tyler. Ruddick has done was seven top tens last nine races. But that's a guy that likes running the wall. How much do things change for him. Next year with the composite body car and You know one of the guys that really can make a big impact because he had so much success in expanding car and had developed line..

"For the sport. I got the answer all the money. A young guy cheaper but if they can bring sponsorship the matter how old they are to some extent to some extent d agree. Well i mean. I think what you're going to see is probably this like balancing effect. Maybe right it's like you've got christopher ballot gibbs with this combination of bunch of veteran drivers. There was the report from the atlantic. This past week. Last week that kurt busch could potentially go to twenty three eleven. Combine with bubba there and bring in some of that veteran veteran leadership experience and that sponsorship and that's something denny hamlin's talked about it at point is trying to have a veteran driver in a perfect world having that mix between a veteran driver in a younger driver. So that would work. In that situation that comes to fruition. Now go ahead well. I think that you know. I don't know if it's going to be this full sport pivot potentially but it's going to maybe continue to be this balance and then this all right if we haven't established guy in there to bring some of that experience and combined with some of these younger drivers and i i think you've got that experience at hendrick on the crew chief side with chad canals to i mean overseeing everything there it's not like they're lacking leadership in any sense on the team side or competition and i think alex is right in the sense that you know there may not be that pivot because there are so many different ways of doing it but think it'll come down to like what what you're saying is is impartially sponsorship and again you look at all forms of motor sports you look at what's happened in indycar and you look at the young drivers that have won there. What for the first five races were won by drivers twenty. Four and under obviously ellie castro. Neves forty six years old wins the indianapolis five hundred in one of the oldest drivers to do so. But a youth is really. There's a big youth movement in indycar. Were certainly seen me. Look chase elliott winning the championship last year. We're seeing some younger drivers having success We have sponsors look at that in how companies In the sport or how to companies maybe not in the sport look at how they could use a youthful driver to reach a particular market. If that's that works for them. So yeah i think you know at the end of the day. There's so many different ways doing alex. I think you're right is there may not be that full on pivot And it makes but again it may come down to sponsorship like you were talking about brett and if a lot of companies come in and say i want young. Then that's what a lot of car owners are going to do. Well in one thing we're kendrick did do this year. Which is unusual for a kendrick went outside the organization make a crew chief higher. He went and got rudy. Fugel out of kabul motor sports doubt william byron because they had a history with each other and it's paid come off spate well and that that was a choice. I think that william almost left into william byron's hands to say. Hey i want this guy to be my crew chief this year and it's i mean it certainly paid off for them. I think they're probably the one of the most consistent running teams in the series right now So yeah that that history has has obviously translated to on the track. And i mean and i think that that that was smart on hendrix part to say you know what will leave it up to the driver and probably chad canal. Saying you know we've worked. We've worked together but my time up is here. Who do you want to be your next guy in dustin right now at rick has got something going on. That has rarely happened. All four cars running will usually. It's three the fourth. One tends to struggle but right now he's got all four running. Well yeah and and the the you know again you know. We're talking early june. The playoffs aren't until september so It's great that they're running well at this point season. But what's it gonna be like an playoffs and and look this domination. The last three weeks where you look at the numbers and they've essentially lead about ninety percent of the laps at the last three races Dover coda and charlotte. Those are not playoff tracks now again. There's things you can learn you can carry over And certainly they've had success as you as you noted that cows one at at las vegas And alex one at richmond. Those are playoff tracks. But if you look at some of the numbers. They have not led as many laps at Some playoff tracks. So i i kind of temper this. It's like this is an impressive run right now but how long. How long can it be sustained. And is it something you know as one person from another organization asked me after the race are might they be peaking too soon who well time will tell. It is interesting though. One little trivia note is you know hendrick gets the two hundred and sixty ninth win. The five car does it. The five car also got his first win. Jeff jeffrey bodine martinsville. That was all star racing. I used to have an all star racing add. It may be an a trunk somewhere. My house somebody tried to buy. I tried to sell it once. I thought this'll be good investment. I'll get a lot of money for this. Because it's like hendrix original organiser. Yes somebody offered me like five cents for once. How wonder. I wonder if richard petty has an all star racing. Don't think a little bit. Maybe i should get richt autograph. Still have maybe maybe then it will be something autograph too when we come back. Dustin brought it up elliott cash..

And that's what appealed to me about becoming a professional staff member in college media. I spent nine years as the newsroom adviser. Mostly focusing on newsroom. The last three and a half years. I've been the general manager which is a a more comprehensive role that oversees the nonprofit that publishes the daily tar heel.

"Here Los Angeles there's a study out of Los Angeles and the study may blow up every other study and in the country every other model that we've looked at and so on Los Angeles study suggests virus much more widespread what what is that another headline Los Angeles corona virus outbreak may be more widespread than confirmed with lower results Los Angeles studies suggest virus much more widespread the Charlotte observer and Kaiser health news in Los Angeles antibody testing suggests coronavirus cases could be forty times higher than official count this is the that Kaiser health news all right odd that they may have an agenda of some kind I'm not sure they everybody does I suppose we haven't known the true extent of the code nineteen affection infections in our community because we have only tested people with symptoms and the availability availability of tests has been limited said that Neeraj issued a professor of public policy at the university of southern California and he's the lead researcher on the study he says the numbers back up what post public health experts have been saying about the confirmed cases being only the tip of the iceberg now that's one way of putting it but that might be the inverse way of of putting up that might be upside down the way of putting it the Los Angeles Times for their part says that given the numbers some four point one percent of adults tested positive for corona virus antibodies in a study of Los Angeles county residents health officials said on Monday suggesting the rate of infection may be forty times higher than the number our can of confirmed cases these serology tests conducted by the university of southern California researchers on eight hundred sixty three people indicate the death rate from the pandemic could be lower than previously thought but also that the respiratory illness may be maybe being spread more widely by people who showed no symptoms now this is fascinating for a number of reasons all right and then the LA times goes on to say you know that translates roughly two hundred twenty one thousand to four hundred and forty two thousand adults who have recovered from an infection this is in Los Angeles county all right once the margin of error is taken into account according to the researchers conducting the study that we're talking about up to four hundred and forty two thousand people in Los Angeles county that have been infected but it also means that the mortality rate may be a small fraction of what we currently think it is or was or maybe or or words along those lines because everything changes every day in the story the numbers change every day the numbers are unreliable and the Associated Press with an estimated three hundred and twenty thousand adults in Los Angeles county may have been infected with the corona virus according to preliminary results from the U. S. the study and the study was conducted April tenth and eleventh that's a good because it's recent and you wanted to be more recent rather than more distant USA and they estimated approximately four point one percent of the county's adult population of eight million people has antibodies of the virus okay so maybe as many as four hundred and forty thousand people and they have ranges from two point eight percent to five point six percent that may have been exposed to the virus and have the inspection but you see in the end that would be really good news on one level because it would mean the percentage of people dying from the virus would be much much smaller than previously thought and that's that'd be a real interesting real good news so how do you track that I don't know because this afternoon the numbers will change again I've been watching this for quite some time now and that's how that's how this thing works is the numbers change every day and and it's not they don't just like go up like they're more today than yesterday some days there are fewer today than yesterday and that makes it difficult and
