A highlight from 117: Part 2: Charles Lutz Takes on Unpopular Causes from Vietnam to DEA to TSA
"Did you ever get any chatter that he was still alive, you know, anywhere? Well we, we, we looked for him. I had information he was actually a fled to Irania Perthet, which is a town on the Cambodian border in Thailand. And so I actually wanted investigative assistance and I went up there and spent a couple of days at a picture of Sukhri and checked out all the bars and massage parlors and whatever, see if we could find him. And, and we never did. But the other case I was going to mention, I think you might find interesting, is while I was doing this undercover thing with Sukhri, the agent who was handling the Herman Jackson, Ike Atkinson case in Bangkok, which is a group of, of retired military NCA, NCOs that were, had been smuggling heroin back to the States. That agent was transferred back to the States. And then in those days, every case had to have an agent assigned to it, if only to write status reports. So my boss, Paul Brown, dumped this Atkinson case on me and I thought, oh man, what, I got enough to do. But it actually turned out to be a blessing because I, I, I guess after a few days, got a call from San Francisco from an agent, Lionel Stewart, and there had been a couple of, of guys in, arrested in Japan, military, US Army guys, and they, one of them flipped and identified his source of supply as the bartender at a bar owned in Bangkok by this Herman Jackson. So I thought, wow, you know, maybe, maybe we can make something in this case after all. Long story short, Lionel came over and we made, he actually made an undercover purchase of heroin from the source of supply. We, we got him to San Francisco where he was arrested and he ended up, I mean, it's a long story, but we ended up being able to, with some of the evidence we got through that case, we were able to prosecute Atkinson in North Carolina. You gotta, you gotta understand, Morgan, this guy's talking about Lionel Stewart. So when I get to Miami and Charles here is the ASAC, we had two associate SACs and one of them was Lionel Stewart. This guy was a shuckin' and jivin' character. I mean, he was hilarious, black gentleman, would not cut anybody's slack. He, you know, he called a spade a spade and he did it to your face, he did it behind your back, but he was hilarious. I mean, he would just entertain. You could see how the guy could work undercover. I mean, he could sell ice to an Eskimo, you know, that kind of attitude. Yeah. Well, in my book, I call him the professor of undercover science. There you go. That's a good title.

Does your commute take longer now than it did before the pandemic started? Some drivers are experiencing that. We talked about why that is with Washington Post Transportation reporter Ian Duncan. It's sort of this kind of counterintuitive thing that a lot of people are still working from home. A lot of people are not going downtown nearly as much as they did. And yet, in some cases, traffic the looks to be as bad, if not worse, than it was before the pandemic. It seems as reason is because Metro is not picking up nearly as many commuters as it it did. So even though you have maybe a small number of people on any given day commuting, do you have a lot more more people on the road. Just a few days ago, Metro saw its highest daily ridership since the start of the pandemic, but ridership daily is still half of what it was in 2019. And drivers, have you noticed rising costs at the gas pump? Global oil prices have been climbing so you're paying more to fill up your car truck or SUV. Factoring into gas prices is Saudi Arabia cutting its oil supply by 1 million barrels a day in July. Russia has also limited its output and according to energy analyst Tom Klose, we're likely to see some increased production somewhere, certainly not before the end of the year from Saudi Arabia but I think in 2024 right now they're probably planning on increasing output. Some analysts say they expect a barrel of oil to cost $100. Klose says the price of oil has likely peaked for the year. Jennifer Kuiper, CBS News. get this, Well more people are actually opting to buy cars with manual transmissions. For the second consecutive year, sales of stick shifts ticked up. They still only account for 1 .7 % of all auto sales though. Carmack says buyers in their 20s are among those who most commonly buy stick shifts. I guess Motor One reports for that an the engaging desire driving experience is one of the reasons behind this renewed interest in cars with manual transmission. Another reason, parents not wanting their teenagers to use their phones when driving. That's probably a good one too. As a car lover I have a car with a manual transmission that is fun to drive, but for daily driving in this traffic I don't see how you can drive a manual. An automatic is almost necessary in my opinion. driving experience, I can't imagine doing it around here. Yeah, it's not fun. Also, automatics can be faster in most cases than manuals. Dirty little secret. So performance oriented people go with the automatic. I'm alienating a lot of car people right now. They're like what are you talking about? Don't praise the automatics. Well here's another sign that travel is bouncing back. Friday marked a new high for AWI Marshall Airport passenger traffic since the start of the pandemic. A highlight from 1410: Bitcoin Will Hit $10,000,000 Per Coin - Binance CEO CZ
"In today's show, I'll be breaking down the latest technical analysis. And also I'm going to be sharing with you a 48 ,700 Bitcoin price target, pre halving according to a top analyst. Also did you know it was exactly six years ago today, China tried and failed to ban Bitcoin for the second time and ever since the Bitcoin price action is up 600 % and the mining hash rate is back at all time highs. Also quitting Max Kaiser, Bukele has restored the human rights to 7 million Salvadorians that have been taken away by murderous runts, the British and American state, a 93 % approval rating tells the story of the most popular leader in the world. And now Bukele -nomics is being copied around the world as a blueprint for freedom and justice preach. Also in today's show, Mt. Gox repayments delayed yet again. Creditors are waiting on Bitcoin, Bitcoin cash and Yen payments until next year in 2024. We'll also be discussing, according to this latest report, Coinbase currently holds 5 % of the entire Bitcoin supply in existence. That's right. While Coinbase holds 25 billion in BTC, the exchange only owns around 200 million in Bitcoin and its wallets. We'll also be discussing the catalyst, which will catapult the Bitcoin price action. According to skybridge capitals, Anthony Scaramucci will also be discussing the latest with the Binance CEO CZ setting the record straight on $250 million loan claims. That's right. The US court had recently denied an inspection plea by the SEC. I'll be breaking down this latest FUD and speaking of CZ, the Binance CEO predicts the Bitcoin price will reach $10 million per coin. In fact, a couple of years back in an interview, he said, if all of the major institutions allocate 1 % Bitcoin, we're going to see 1000 X or more growth of the Bitcoin price. And if you run the math, 1000 times today's price action is 26 to $27 million per BTC. We'll also be taking a look at the overall crypto market, all this plus so much more in today's show. Yo what's good crypto fam. This is first and foremost, a video show. So if you want the full premium experience with video, visit my YouTube channel at crypto news alerts .net. Again, that's crypto news alerts .net and welcome everyone just joining us. This is podcast episode number 1410. I'm your host JV and today is September 23rd, 2023. So welcome to another sat stacking Saturday. Let's kick it off with our market watch as we do here each and every day, seven days a week. We can see Bitcoin back in the green trading above 26 .6 and we also have ether back in the green trading at roughly $1 ,600. The market cap is sitting at 1 .06 trillion with roughly 17 billion in volume. In the past 24 hours, we've got Bitcoin dominance at 49 .1 % and the ether dominance at 18 .2 % as Bitcoin continues outpacing Ethereum and checking out the top 100 crypto gainers of the past 24 hours, we've got theta lead in the pack up 7 % trading just under 64 cents followed by rocket pool up 4 % trading at $21 .63, followed by chain link up 4 % trading at $7 .18 and checking out the top 100 crypto gainers of the past week, we have WeMix leading this pack up 15%. We have PLS up 8 .2 % and XRD up 11, I mean 7 .4 % and checking out the crypto greed and fear index, we're currently rated a 47, which is neutral. Yesterday was a 43 in fear, last week also a 43 and last month a 41 in fear. So there you have it. How many of you have been stacking M -Sats and taking advantage of the recent dip in dollar cost averaging? Let me know. And how many of you are anticipating Bitcoin price action to maybe dip a little further south before packing some new positions? Let me know how you feel with the current status. And also just quick reminder, we're almost at the end of September historically, September is the worst month out of the entire year for the Bitcoin price action, but it's always followed by up tober, which is historically one of the most bullish months for Bitcoin. So we only have another week until we get out of September. So we'll see how this is likely to play out. Let's break down today's Bitcoin technical analysis. Bitcoin failed to reclaim 27 ,000, though we came close. It stalled at 26 ,500 as of right now. Meanwhile, the altcoins are in no better shape with minor losses coming from most of the larger cap ones. With Chainlink, the only one with a notable price increase. So last week was expectedly less volatile, aside from the brief spike on Saturday that pushed Bitcoin then to the multi -day peak of 26 ,400. But after failing to continue upwards, Bitcoin retraced at 26 ,000 and spent the rest of the weekend there. Then Monday didn't start all that positively either, but finished the way. Bitcoin went on the offensive and soared above 27 ,000 for the first time in weeks, but then shortly dumped after. But the bulls kept the pressure on and pushed Bitcoin to a new 20 -day peak at 27 ,500 on Tuesday. The next few days were rather calm with Bitcoin maintaining 27 G's, even after the US Fed's decision to stop raising the interest rates. Yet Bitcoin's momentum disappeared by Friday as it fell to 26 ,400. It even tried to bounce off the end of the day, but failed and currently stands at 26 ,500. Its market cap is south of 520 billion, while its dominance over the alts still just inches shy of 49%. So there you have it. And as we mentioned a little earlier, the altcoins, a lot of them are also in the red with the exception of Chainlink, which seems to be outpacing the rest of the major alts. Now for a prediction from Titan of Crypto, here's what he shared on X. Bitcoin 48 ,700 before the halving rocket ship to the moon. You might want to bookmark this one. Fam, never in history the halving occurred without Bitcoin reaching the 78 .6 % Fibonacci retracement level. So first off, first cycle price reached this four months before the halving, and the second cycle it was two months before, and then on the third cycle it was 12 months before. The next halving is now roughly six months away. Bitcoin might reach the 78 .6 % Fibonacci level within this period as it currently lies at 48 ,700, but the million dollar question remains, will this time be different? So as we enter this fourth halving, let me know where you feel the Bitcoin price action is likely to hit before we have liftoff. I mean, obviously that would be a bullish scenario setting us up for a perfect price discovery in 2024 post halving. So I cannot wait. I hope the analyst is right. And if you didn't know, it was exactly six years ago. China tried and failed to ban Bitcoin for the second time because guess what? You can't ban Bitcoin. You can try. Good luck with that. And ever since the price action on the King Crypto is up 600 % and the mining hash rate continues to hit all time highs. And as you know, hash rate is a good indicator for the strength of the network, meaning the market cap is just north of only $500 billion. And as Max points out here, referring to Bukele, he has restored the human rights of 7 million Salvadorans that have been taken away by murderous runts. The British and American state, a 93 % approval rating tells the story, the most popular leader in the world. And now Bukele Nomics is being copied around the world as a blueprint for freedom and justice. Massive shout out to Najib Bukele and the people of El Salvador. Which country do you feel is likely to adopt Bitcoin as a legal tender next? Let me know your honest thoughts in the comments below. I feel it's going to be another Latin American country. I'd say a great candidate for that is Argentina, which has hundreds of millions of people. We have Javier Malay, the pro presidential candidate. There is a 70 % chance plus that he is elected as the president. And we already know the likelihood he could make Bitcoin a legal tender, especially being orange -pilled by Max Keiser, who is the senior Bitcoin advisor for President Bukele. As Max has already announced, he can't wait to touch down in Buenos Aires to orange pill Javier Malay. Then we also have Mexico. We have people like Ricardo Salinas, the third richest man in Mexico, very pro Bitcoin, claiming Bitcoin has been his best investment ever because, again, Max orange -pilled him back in 2014. Then we have Brazil and so many other countries that make Bitcoin a potential to become legal tender. And we all know that's going to be a game changer. And that's just another catalyst on top of the Bitcoin halving scheduled in six months in 2024, plus the approval of a spot Bitcoin ETF in the United States. So can you say fireworks lays ahead? Let's go. Now let's discuss the latest more bullish news, meaning Mt. Gox is going to be delaying these payments, which means no crypto is going to be dumped onto the open market anytime soon, which again is good for the hodlers. Check it out. Now we got Nobuaki, the Mt. Gox trustee in charge of the funds owed to the exchange creditors, updated the public on September 21st, two days ago, according to the trustee, because of the lengthy discussions with specific payment providers, he could not make the October 31st deadline. That was the initial deadline, fam. And because of this reason, the repayments will start next year. And so they say, quitting him here. Therefore, with the permission of the Tokyo district court, the rehabilitation trustee changed the deadline of the base repayment, the early lump sum repayment and the intermediate repayment from October 31st, 2023 Japan time to October 31st, 2024 Japan time, respectively. By the letter of the Kobashi details, the Mt. Gox creditors waited nine years for payments. Good Lord. Currently, they're owed one hundred and forty one thousand six hundred and eighty six BTC plus one hundred and forty two thousand eight hundred and forty six Bitcoin cash and sixty nine is that billion yen. Good Lord. I'd love to know what that equates to in dollars anyways, though the delay has been extended. The creditors who have completed their claims might receive the payment by year's end, quoting them again. Rehabilitation creditors who have provided the necessary info to the rehabilitation trustee will see the payments made in a sequence as early as the end of this year, according to the letter. However, this schedule could change. Kobashi also said that due to the high volume of inquiries regarding the process, the rehabilitation team might not respond promptly. Well, that doesn't sound so promising, but I guess it's a good sign that most of this cash is not going to be dumped off any time soon, as there's a lot of FUD that's always circulating. The Mt. Gox, you know, sell off is going to crash the entire market. I think that is very unlikely and is nothing more than FUD. And again, we're gearing up for the most bullish sentiment in the four year cyclical cycle amongst us in twenty twenty four. So versus being in fear, I would be very optimistic about what's to come for the king crypto and the crypto market as a whole. But what are your thoughts, fam? Let me know in the comments right down below. Now let's discuss the largest crypto exchange in the United States. Clearly, it is Coinbase. The CEO is Brian Armstrong. But did you know, according to this latest report, they currently control and own over five percent of the Bitcoin in circulation. That's pretty hefty. And let's break this one down. And how many of you have used the Coinbase crypto exchange before? Let me know in the comments below. Here we go. Blockchain intelligence platform ARKAM recently identified the crypto exchange Coinbase holds almost one million Bitcoin in its wallets like, whoa, the coins are worth more than twenty five billion dollars at the current prices. Now, according to ARKAM, the exchanges holdings amount to almost five percent of all the existing Bitcoin. ARKAM said Coinbase holds a total of nine hundred forty seven thousand seven hundred and fifty five BTC. And at the moment, Bitcoin circulating supply is around nineteen million four hundred ninety three thousand five hundred thirty seven, according to coin info on CoinGecko. And as ARKAM shared here on X, ARKAM now identified twenty five billion of Bitcoin's Coinbase reserves with one million, approximately Bitcoin on chain. This makes Coinbase the largest Bitcoin entity in the world on ARKAM, with almost five percent of all the Bitcoin in existence, almost as much as Satoshi Nakamoto. Crazy, right? Furthermore, ARKAM noted that it has tagged and identified thirty six million Bitcoin deposits and holding addresses used by the exchange. And according to ARKAM, Coinbase's largest cold wallet holds around ten thousand BTC. And based on the exchanges financial reports, the intelligence company believes that Coinbase has more Bitcoin than are yet labeled and could not be identified. And while Coinbase holds over twenty five billion worth of Bitcoin in its wallets, the exchange only owns around ten thousand of all the Bitcoin in which it holds, which is roughly two hundred million dollars, according to the recent data. Meanwhile, community members express varying reactions to the news about the amount of Bitcoin on the centralized exchange in which they hold. Some believe it's a sign to withdraw their Bitcoin from the exchanges, warning hodlers not to wait until the exchanges start to halt withdrawals. Others say that since there are legitimate concerns over cold wallets, there is no good way to store your assets. I'd like to chime in real quick. Obviously, if it's not your keys, it's not your coins. So while a custodian such as Coinbase can hold your crypto, you've got to also note that it's not yours. So if something were to happen, hypothetically, like we've seen with FTX and the collapse last year, then not your keys, not your coins, they don't belong to you at the end of the day. So you've got to start to weigh the risk reward with having a custodian such as Coinbase or a centralized exchange hold your coins versus taking the responsibility for yourself and learning how to self custody your own crypto and call storage such as with a Bitcoin cold wallet, such as a treasure. So I just wanted to point that out. There's no right or wrong way to hold your crypto. You've got to do what's in your best interest, of course. So, you know, I mean, just want to keep it real at the end of the day. So check it when it comes to Bitcoin ownership by companies, business intelligence for MicroStrategy still owns most Bitcoin. I believe it's over one hundred and fifty two thousand eight hundred BTC, to be exact, worth over four billion dollars at the time of this recording, making them the largest publicly traded company to have Bitcoin on their balance sheet. Now, another major company that controls over six hundred thousand BTC is Grayscale in their GBTC product, the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust, which they just recently had a lawsuit against the SEC with the plan to convert their trust into a spot Bitcoin ETF. So considering they already control the underlying asset in the sum of over six hundred thousand BTC makes them a pretty strong contender. Wouldn't you agree? Let me know your thoughts, fam. And now let's break down our next story of the day and discuss the Bitcoin price likely to catapult along with the altcoin to coin to SkyBridge Capital, Anthony Scaramucci. Let's break this down. Shout out to the Mooch, SkyBridge Capital founder Scaramucci is detailing how one catalyst could have a bullish impact on Bitcoin, as well as the alt. In an interview with the Wolf of Wall Street, Scott Melker Scaramucci says that a spot Bitcoin ETF could be approved in the first quarter of twenty twenty four, which seems to be a ninety five percent likelihood, according to top ETF analyst at Bloomberg, Eric Balchunes. So according to SkyBridge Capital founder, the approval of the spot Bitcoin ETF and the Bitcoin halving, which is expected to occur in April of twenty twenty four, could combine to ignite a crypto bull market. No, it's not. It could combine. It will combine. Just saying. Quitting him here as Wall Street or products on Wall Street are sold, they are not bought. And so there is going to be tens of thousands, if not one hundred thousand plus people at these Wall Street firms selling these products to their traditional investors. So people that are in Bitcoin understand the finite supply of Bitcoin, right? We all know there's a finite limited supply, 21 million, and they understand the nature and the quality the Bitcoin has. This will push Bitcoin up. Of course, it will have a dramatically positive effect on the altcoin market because it will lead to more capital into digital properties so people can think whatever they want. They can think short term about the near term volatility of Bitcoin. But these macro positive factors are overwhelming. And according to Scaramucci, the potential approval of a spot Bitcoin ETF filed by giant asset managers such as BlackRock, who controls over 10 trillion in assets under management and Fidelity, that controls over four and a half trillion in assets under management, can see Bitcoin increasing its market cap by roughly 24 times from the current level. We'll send it. Let's go quoting the Mooch here. It is important that now the largest asset manager in the world who started out with some level of skepticism related to digital assets and Bitcoin is now willing to adopt Bitcoin. I mean, I guess they mean BlackRock is willing to adopt Bitcoin, but even more important than that, they're willing to explain to their clients. I think BlackRock now has 13 trillion dollars in assets under management. So for them, seven trillion for Fidelity. While these numbers are higher than I even imagine, while their clients need exposure to digital property like Bitcoin. And so we have a five hundred billion dollar plus market for Bitcoin. So you and I know gold is at 12 trillion ish, depending on where it's trading. But yes, 12 trillion. There is no reason why Bitcoin couldn't get gold. So there you have it. And to watch this video interview he did with Scott Melker entitled 37000 Bitcoin. Can it skyrocket 35 percent? Check the show notes below the video in the description. And I think we all could agree it's only a matter of time before Bitcoin returns to price discovery mode, virtually meaning entering new all time highs. My personal prediction is sometime in 2024, considering the two biggest catalysts, which we just covered, the Bitcoin halving and Bitcoin ETF approval, which we know is going to be a given, especially considering the SEC is not going to be able to push it back and push back that deadline any longer because, you know, they just they have been pushing it back now for 10 years while they continue to approve futures ETFs, which can allow them to spoof and manipulate the market, which is all by design. At the end of the day, there's not new under the sun and three things cannot be long hidden. The sun, the moon and the truth. But just saying. Anyways, fam, now let's discuss the ongoing fight against CZ, the finance CEO with this 250 million dollar loan. And then I'll be breaking down his 10 million dollar price prediction and in fact sharing a transcription of him claiming that Bitcoin can thousand X from the current price, which would ultimately mean not 10 million, but we're talking twenty six to twenty seven million dollars per coin. Let's break this down. So here we go. First, with the FUD, the Binance CEO, CZ Shangping Zhao had refuted a recent report alleging that he received the 250 million dollar loan from BAM Management, the company that serves as the holding entity for Binance US. Now, how many of you have used Binance US or Binance before as the exchange? Let me know, fam. The development comes amidst Binance's struggles with plunging trading volume as the world's largest crypto exchange faces mounting lawsuits and increased scrutiny, regulatory which seems to all be by design by the SEC and the regulators. Right. The report published by Decrypt September 19th drew its conclusions from court documents associated with the ongoing lawsuit involving Binance and the United States. SEC, according to the news agency's interpretation, the Binance US legal representatives asserted in the documents that BAM Management US Holdings had issued a quarter billion dollar convertible note to CZ back in December. CZ, however, challenged the accuracy of the report when he tweeted the following. The amount of wrong information is just they got the direction wrong. I loaned 250 million dollars to BAM a while back, not the other way around, and have not taken it back. The Binance CEO clarified that the loan arrangement was, in fact, the opposite of what was reported in the post. The exec explained that he had extended a 250 million dollar loan to BAM Management and asserted that he had not yet received the payment. So there's nothing new under the sun. Just more FUD, it seems like, fam. The legal battle has taken a toll on Binance US, which saw a flurry of employee departures. The US SEC alleged that Binance was not cooperating in the ongoing probe and even claimed that BAM refused to make essential witnesses available for deposition. Concerns were also raised on CEFFU, which happens to be a custody service offered by Binance's international arm, Binance Holdings Ltd. The SEC's filing claimed that the platform appeared to be in violation of a previous agreement designed to prevent the transfer of the assets abroad. And despite the scathing attacks by the financial regulator, Binance scored a small win this week. The SEC's motion to approve an inspection into Binance US was denied by the USDC District Judge, Zia Farokhia. So there you have it. I mean, the ongoing FUD will more than likely continue, as obviously Binance is the largest crypto exchange in the world and regulators seem to have a problem with them and want to go after them for whatever apparent reason. So, like I said, hopefully in the end, you know, truth is revealed and the real story versus all the FUD and, you know, the manipulation of the price action and all the shenanigans we continue to witness in the market. And with that being shared, now let's dive into the Binance CEO, CZ and his 10 million dollar price prediction, as well as him predicting that Bitcoin price action could even a thousand X from here, sending the Bitcoin price parabolic to 26 or even 27 million dollars per coin. Let's break this baby down, shall we? Here we go. JV, have you ever heard of him? A crypto YouTube influencer from Crypto News Alerts remembered CZ's prediction. You're damn right I did. The Bitcoin would reach 10 million per coin. JV referred to the statement in a recent video uploaded on YouTube where he analyzes various aspects of the Bitcoin market development. Now, JV looked back at CZ's Bitcoin prediction while analyzing the Bitcoin CEO's recent Twitter comments. And in a Q &A session on July 5th, CZ addressed several issues, including Binance's reaction to the ongoing regulatory scrutiny. He also spoke about the rising interest of institutional investors in crypto currencies, as well as the proposed BlackRock spot Bitcoin ETF. CZ made the 10 million dollar price prediction back in 2021. In fact, I have the article already pulled up and I'm going to be reading word for word what he shared. Following MicroStrategy's announcement, allocating Bitcoin for the corporate strategy, CZ based his analysis on the possibility of several corporate companies, major institutions across the world, allocating just one percent of their corporate treasury into Bitcoin. And according to CZ, that would lead to a thousand X growth in the value of BTC. JV highlighted CZ's welcoming approach to institutional investors in the Bitcoin ecosystem, and CZ noted that advantages in traditional finance firms they bring to the crypto industry, despite concerns about their intentions clashing with Bitcoin's decentralized nature. And according to JV, CZ identified two key factors driving Binance's strategy for the next 18 months. They include the upcoming Bitcoin halving event now less than six months out, as well as, you know, we could be seeing a Bitcoin ETF here in the near future. The Bitcoin community expects the next halving to occur in April of 2024. Now quoting CZ word for word from the initial interview he made on Bloomberg Radio predicting a potential 1000 X increase in the Bitcoin price action. So here's what he had to say. Right now, I think only 11 companies again, this is right around the time that MicroStrategy announced putting Bitcoin on its balance sheet. They announced having allocating some talking about Bitcoin, like usually less than one percent of their corporate treasury to Bitcoin. And we think that it is most likely what caused the initial price rise. I think MicroStrategy's Michael Saylor started it first, but there are six hundred and fifty thousand companies in the world, like relatively established companies in the world, and their treasury is huge. Preach. So if all of them talking about these major institutions only allocated just one percent to Bitcoin, we are going to see, I don't know, 1000 X more growth in the Bitcoin price. And if they allocate more than one percent, then it's going to be even bigger. So I think people don't quite get the magnitude of the wave that is about to hit us. Now, let's run that math one more time. Fam, today's price is roughly twenty six thousand five hundred times that by one thousand. He's talking about a twenty six and a half million dollar Bitcoin price action. The potential if they only put one percent of their strategic reserves into Bitcoin, you do the math. If it's five X and five percent, what are we talking? One hundred and twenty million dollar Bitcoin price. Just saying this is coming from CZ, the world's richest man in crypto. So very powerful words indeed. Let's get back to this prediction of what he shared. So the finance CEO estimates that the flagship crypto can go up anywhere from nineteen hundred percent to twenty thousand percent from the current price levels from the time he made the prediction. And he goes on to share with price predictions. It is really, really difficult. I think it can go to, I don't know, one million dollars, ten million dollars. It is very hard to tell. And again, if we literally did a thousand X from today's price, we're talking twenty six and a half million per BTZ. So CZ also reveals that the exchange is onboarding new users as an at an unprecedented sustained rate during the bull run, outpacing its user growth during the twenty seventeen bull run. So again, this was during the twenty twenty one bull run. Here's what he had to share. Just to give people the idea, in twenty seventeen, when Bitcoin hit the peak of about 20 G's, we were seeing three hundred thousand new registered users per day. And that only happened for a couple of days. And that kind of trailed off and became slower. Now we're seeing sustained new user registrations above the peak and sustained like for over two to three months. So could you imagine running the world's largest crypto exchange and having over three hundred thousand new registered users every single day for like 90 days straight? That is insanity. And that's the previous market. I think twenty twenty four is likely going to outpace the previous market as Bitcoin becomes a common household name and as Bitcoin game theory continues in full effect. You have presidential candidates making Bitcoin a big determining factor. We have people like Ron DeSantis, Kennedy Jr., Javier Malay over in Argentina. So naturally, it's just going to create more commotion and positive catalysts for Bitcoin as we move forward into twenty twenty four. So, I mean, fireworks are ahead. Let me know how you feel. We're likely to finish out this year by December of twenty twenty three. Where do you feel the Bitcoin price action is likely to be? And don't forget to check out CryptoNewsAlerts .net for the full premium experience with video and to participate in the live Q &A. And I look forward to seeing you on tomorrow's episode. HODL.

I've chosen our episode from November of 2019 on cockney rhyming slang. This is one of those silly episodes That's also packed with a lot of interesting information and I remember Chuck and I having fun making it So I hope you'll enjoy listening to it, too enjoy Welcome to stuff you should know production of I heart radio And welcome to the podcast I'm Josh Clark and there's Charles W. Chuck Bryant right there. There's Jerry Roland right there So that makes this stuff. You should know right Can't top that I was trying to think a way to say welcome to the podcast in cockney rhyming slang Can you make an attempt my I'm my brain is so broken right now. I can't even try. Okay, good good Well, welcome. It's a good good time to record a show You're gonna do some cockney in here, right? We want to offend as many Londoners as we can I don't know just just channel a little Dick Van Dyke. Oh You know Yeah, the American Doing a bad cockney accent. Well, I did recently rewatch the limey Yes Casey's for benefit. Yeah, the great great movie from Steven Soderbergh. Never seen it. It's awesome. Is it really? Yeah, I mean, I know it's like a classic and everybody loves it. But I mean, it's really that good Yeah, because a lot of people liked I don't know the hangover. I Like the hangover. Well, how would you how would you like the limey and the hangover same level? Yeah, they're the same movie almost. All right, it's weird. Well, then I've seen the hangover so I don't need to see the limey Lemmy's great and Terence stamp is Awesome, and it then uses some cockney rhyming slang and one great scene My big exposure to cockney rhyming slang is lock stock in two smoking barrels Snatch. Yeah, which I think are both directed by Guy Ritchie, right? Wasn't lock stock like his first attempt and snatch was the one that like Got him married to Madonna you a fan of his yeah, I mean as much as I Like his movies, I don't like him personally necessarily cuz he like hunts bore like a jackass does it like yeah No drunk with his friends in the most like disrespectful way of murdering a pig. I admit his movies But yeah, I do like his movie sounds like he's a creep, too I'm not gonna go on record saying that but Yeah, those movies are okay and then I guess what's his name Don Cheadle a little bit in Oceans 11 sure he did a little bit of that right and I mean like It's code to Americans. It's oh, there's like a criminal a British criminal, right? That's all that means these days Yeah, I think so in movies. It's definitely Like all of those are criminal right criminal people in the movies They're like, you know kind of slick cool criminals that wear leather coats and stuff like that Not dumb criminals that wear like football jerseys or anything like that. They're like, you know smooth criminals That's I think what I was looking for. Yeah, but This this idea of associating it with cockney is not necessarily associating it with criminals. It's more associated with like Lower class working class less educated definitely not the aristocracy over in Britain yeah, or the upper class sure and that by by speaking with a cockney accent or More to the point using cockney rhyming slang you could really differentiate yourself To as a point of pride, right? Like you were speaking like your group your in -group which was at the time cockney, right? But the big surprise to all this is it's really possible and even probable that it wasn't the cockney that came up with this Rhyming slang that it was somebody else altogether. Maybe who knows should we say what it is? No Not for the rest of the podcast cockney rhyming slang Wasn't even Very clearly defined in this piece. Okay, did you think it was? It's in there. Okay, you got to just kind of separate the wheat from the chaff So it is a two -word phrase and is a slang phrase Consisting of two words so far so good where the last word of that phrase rhymes with the original word and It can be and I think the best way to do this is just to throw out a few no. No keep describing Well, the two -word phrase it can be it can be a lot of things it can be a person's name It can be just something random can be a place could be a place. It could be a lot of things it can be anything Yeah, sure. I guess it can be But shall we illustrate it through? Well, there's a second part to it. Okay, the second part and this is very important the Two -word phrase that you're using to that where the second one rhymes with the word you're actually saying Yeah, the original word the original word. Thank you Usually has nothing to do with it. There's no metaphor. There's no connection. There's no Nothing, there's no there's no context to it It's supposed to just be random or in most cases. It is just random words right one of which rhymes with the word you're replacing and To further complicate things sure In a lot of cases and no one knows why sometimes this happens and sometimes it doesn't a lot of times that one of the words Of the two -word phrase is dropped. Yeah, and then you're just left with the one word Which doesn't even rhyme with the original word anymore, right? That's I mean, that's probably the best description of cockney rhyming slang anyone's ever given So I think we should illustrate it with a couple of examples. I pulled some from From something called the internet Here here's one the the tip and tete That's how long it took me to come up with that Tip and tete for internet, but in ten years, it'll just be called the tip I'm gonna log on to the tip governor So let's say your word was and this was in oceans 11 specifically trouble is the word that you're trying to say Cockney rhyming slang for trouble is Barney rubble awesome And so you would say you're making a bit of the bonnie rubble again, right when somebody that was kind of Who was that? Making a bit of bonnie rubble not the see I already did it wrong No, but I think you that's not like a real person to an American for sure. Oh, yeah Um, I can't I can't I'll shout it out. Later. Oh, man. I finally did a good one No, but it wasn't a cockney person, okay for Another example Queen They would use the term baked bean Look who's on TV. It's the baked bean And that's the Queen. I like that one or in the case of one that's been dropped What is Ed use here bees and honey? That one is not dropped for money. Okay, but which one was apples and pears right? Right, so you would say I'm gonna go up the apple and stairs Apples and pears. Oh, man Let me retake this everybody You would say I'm going to go up the apples and pears to go get my wallet to pay for this pizza Or something to that effect. Okay, but then over time people drop the pears And so now the word for stairs in cockney rhyming slang is just apples Which if you're just standing there on the outside like a normal American bloke sure, which by the way means person You have no idea why this person just called stairs apples You got what they were saying because the context is there you're going up the apples to get your wallet to pay for the pizza But why would you just say that did you did you hit your head? Is there something wrong with you? What's the problem? Why would you just call that apples? Yeah, that's why it's so confounding But the great thing about cockney rhyming slang and in particular the great thing about researching cockney rhyming slang is you learn How you get from apples to stairs and then it makes sense sometimes Yeah, that's true. It's not always. Yeah, sometimes there's It's not documented which ed points out is one of the problems sometimes you can draw the line the through line But because it's not documented and sometimes these things take years and years to morph into its final version right unless you unless you're you know on the What would you call street on the dole? No on the streets, then I wouldn't know but I don't know what streets is you can't just make stuff up like there's real words I'm the drums and beats So you're on the drums right, but they probably have a word for streets like that's the whole point You can't just make anything up, but the you could if it hasn't been taken yet sure Also, that's the other thing about cockney rhyming slang is it evolves right so old celebrities that that no one even knows about anymore Fall away to new celebrities whose name also rhyme with you know whatever word you're saying right? I thought you meant old celebrities who maybe used to talk this way like Michael Caine no He's never said any rhyming slang in his life. No of course you got to see the movie Alfie Maybe that's who it was it might have been Michael Caine. I'll take that Michael Caine. I think it was as a matter of fact Thank you, I'm glad you did it. Noel always says a good joke is to say Michael Caine in the correct accent say the words my cocaine And it sounds like Michael Caine saying it then it sounds like that the correct accent for Michael Caine all right say it my cocaine Well you just blew that one out of the water You Gotta set me up in the future Okay, well there's I've got it two ways now, man, okay, here's the thing my cocaine That's my cocaine That's pretty good Michael Caine. It is good. You're right. No. You just got to say it the right way and not like a robot Josh So here's that one of the things is sort of confounding if you want to look up a like a glossary and Say well, here's what I'm gonna. Do I'm gonna learn cockney rhyming slang so for my trip to England I'm really you know. I'm really in with everybody First of all bad idea yeah second of all it's it can be very localized Mm -hmm and the accents are all different Yeah, so even people in London sure who both who all use well people in London Do but the people who use cockney rhyming slang in London yeah might not even agree on what word is means What I'm just picturing all the people walking around England laughing their arses off. I can't wait to get to that one As we stumble through this um yeah, it had a really good Example of why there's no codification of the cockney rhyming slang He said that when people are creating a language especially informal ones like slang They don't write it all down quote dear diary referred to my house as a cat and mouse today because it rhymed We all had a good laugh might try. Just calling it cat tomorrow and see how it goes It is it sounds funny, but that's that's how it works stumbling across the diaries And here's the other thing too is there are cases where there is a little bit of a reflection of the original word and the example that it gives here is twist Yeah, like to call a woman a twist mm -hmm Which I don't know if that's derogatory or not or just some weird slang that no one uses anymore I don't think so although I don't know so yeah these are also the people who use the C word like it's nothing Man I can't wait to go back there Which we're gonna do soonish right? I'd love to do in 2020. Maybe yeah, all right So twist came from twist and twirl which meant girl which is They were talking about like dancing with a girl twisting and twirling in a nightclub Let's say so there is some connection in that one. Yeah, so girl and ended up becoming twist So that sort of makes sense there's another one called on your Todd After a guy named Todd Sloan and it means on your own Right and the thing is is like on your Todd it makes sense Sloan rhymes with own It doesn't have to have any connection, but that one actually does yeah Cuz Todd Sloan was a famous jockey in the 19th century like horse jockey. Yes, okay? What other kind is there disc jockeys? Oh, yeah, sure So his book his memoir was called Todd Sloan by himself Which is weird to refer to yourself in third person for your memoir Hmm, but there was a line in it that apparently East End East Enders in London like really picked up I was left alone by those. I never ceased to grieve for It's still like the idea of being alone or on your own Became synonymous with Todd Sloan his name just happened to rhyme with that So it's one of those rare ones where there is a connection to it and also rare Chuck in that This is a 19th century horse jockey and still today on your Todd is recognized as on your own Whereas a lot of people probably have no idea exactly who he is and when that happens That frequently that person gets moved out for potentially another celebrity or another word That's a little more understandable or recognized another new jockey two people today, right? Yeah exactly which can you name one? Nope? Nope Alright, maybe we should take a break and we'll talk about some of the other some other examples after this message In a world where modern technology is rapidly reshaping our day -to -day lives the new podcast Technically speaking an Intel podcast uncovers the remarkable ways tech is improving our livelihood across the globe brought to you by Ruby Studios from I heart media in partnership with Intel technically speaking is your passport to the forefront of AI's marvels in modern technology each episode will Take you on a riveting journey as you discover the awe -inspiring innovations of our modern world from game -changing innovations Revolutionizing early cancer detection to AI software that detects pests on crops that can be detrimental to seasonal yields tune in for Conversations that are shaping tomorrow today.

New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez Indicted on Bribery Charges
"And some of the actions happened in New York. But the Southern District of New York, the U .S. Attorney's Office, there is and they can overwhelm any individual or would -be defendant with really unlimited resources. I just want to bring that up again as a point that people may not go ahead. ...the senior U .S. senator from New Jersey and the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and his wife Nadine Menendez engaged in a corrupt relationship with Hana Uribe and Davies. The indictment alleges that through that relationship the senator and his wife accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars of bribes in exchange for Senator Menendez using his power and influence to protect and to enrich those businessmen and to benefit the government of Egypt. The indictment alleges that Hana Uribe and Davies provided bribes in the form of cash, gold, home mortgage payments, show a no or no show job for Nadine Menendez. Next thing you know they'll be telling us that they set up some shell corporations. I wonder if they got any money from Egypt. I mean the Biden's got it from Communist China and that's just one of the enemy states and front corporations that were associated with China that they got money from. I'm just pointing this out because I listen to this and this is pretty overwhelming. And then the Democrats say where's the evidence on Biden? Well Biden never took a nickel but his family made millions, tens of millions. It's not like they didn't, they did. And they got gifts and they had access to daddy as vice president. So I'm just sitting here saying to myself okay they're not exactly the

Real Estate Coaching Radio
A highlight from 10 Fun Facts About Realtors (#7 Will SHOCK You!)
"Welcome to Real Estate Coaching Radio, starring award -winning real estate coaches and number one international bestselling authors, Tim and Julie Harris. This is the number one daily radio show for realtors looking for a no BS, authentic, real time coaching experience. What's really working in today's market, how to generate more leads, make more money, and have more time for what you love in your life. And now your hosts, Tim and Julie Harris. We are back. We've got a fun show for you today. We are talking about the National Association of Realtors member profile. Julie and I picked out what we feel are the 10 most interesting points from the member profile and I think point number seven, maybe even point number eight will really surprise you. So Julie, we have a lot to go through. Let's just jump right in. Yes, this is about all of you listening and the agents that you deal with day to day. I think I had a few little mini surprises, but let's go through these relatively quickly. First of all, the typical realtor had 11 years of experience. That's actually up from eight from last year. I think that that's probably surprising to some of you because you know, there are a lot of new licensees and some of you deal with each other all the time, but 11 years of experience is the average. Now we're going to just remember as we go through these points, Julie and I are going to do our best to sort of decipher, I think in a lot of ways, some of this information because when it gets to, for example, they're going to, we're going to talk about average income for the average agent and all the rest of it, but they don't think it's confusing to be honest with you. I can't really understand and maybe somebody who is more knowledgeable about this stuff can put in comments, Nara will often say things like the family income or the household income of the average agent, but I'm not so sure. I mean, does that mean like for example, there's a guy and his wife is a brain surgeon and she makes like $14 million a year and he makes like $4 a year selling real estate, you know, and so obviously that's going to affect the average agent's income. Again, I'm not sure I'm reading the question correctly, but let's just get right to it. Yes, that's right. We'll translate as best we can with the information we've got. So next is interesting because with the market shift, a lot of people like to say, oh, everybody's going to get out of the business and yet 76 % of realtors were very certain that they will remain active as a real estate professional for at least the next two years. Now, Julie and I predicted that when the COVID hit and all the rest of it, that there would be no major drop off in the number of members of a national association of realtors. And those of you who've been attached to us for a long period of time, you will remember us telling you why, and I'll for the rest of you tell you why now, because in previous, you know, fortunately there wasn't a slowdown following COVID, but in previous slowdowns or recessions or all kinds of other things like that in the economy, there hasn't been a decrease in the number of agents, but an increase. And so Julie and I went back as far as we could find from national association of realtors looking at the number of members, and it was very clear that what we theorized was correct just simply by looking at the numbers of agents joining during economic slowdowns. So why do people get real estate licenses during slowdowns? Side hustle. That's true. They need to make more money. Or maybe, you know, if you go back to the sixties and seventies, there were a lot of ladies that were looking to get into real estate that maybe hadn't had out of the home employment before and things of that nature, retired people, but really the real reason why Julie and I knew there wasn't going to be a precipitous drop in the number of, you know, members of the national association of realtors was demographics and demographics ultimately is going to run the show for the real estate industry for the rest of our lives and beyond. The number of humans in the United States that want and need to buy or sell real estate is only increasing. And it didn't make sense to us that, uh, just because there would have been hypothetically because of COVID some kind of slowdown, which as all of you know, there was not quite the opposite actually. Exactly. And just a flash forward to today, we now see that again, Julie and I's theory was correct and you notice all the other naysayers that were, uh, predicting doom and gloom about the number of agents dropping dead, like, you know, 2014 levels or whatever. They're all wrong. And the total number of agents did decrease, but I think it was, it was by basically nothing. And now here's another prediction. Wait for it. We are expecting the number of people getting real estate licenses will start to increase over the next 12 months. I'm following, I think what was a lot of people deciding to, you know, should I get a license? Shouldn't I get a license? And here's how I know that's true. The number of emails and the number of texts I get from people who are getting real estate licenses who want to join Julie and I at eXp royalty is through the roof. Absolutely. And I would also concur from my own private elite coaching clients. Many of them have gotten their adult children licensed, their transaction coordinator licensed, their assistant licensed. You know, there's a lot of things that happen, um, with a change and doing more volume that just, you know, people want to have their family work in the business. There's lots of that going on about 6%. By the way, I did read that about 6 % of current licensees, uh, got licensed as a result of doing something during COVID, you know, supplementing their other job, for example. That's a good point. I mean, there also was a baby boom, you know, so between studying for the real estate test and the, you know, the other thing, I guess there you go, Oh, and I'm sure a lot of those babies eventually get licenses too. I mean, Zoe's already wanting to get a license. So as far as those of you who are looking to upgrade your brokerage experience, a reminder Julie and I are proudly associated with eXp royalty. The other thing you can do also is if you're filling out the application, just put Julie Harris, Georgetown, Texas as your sponsor. If you want to learn more about why so many agents are joining with Julie and I in our group at eXp Realty, by the way, our eXp Realty group, listen to this guys, our eXp Realty group so far this year has done 3 billion, 300 million in real estate transactions on over 11 ,000 transactions if I remember correctly, most of which are on the seller side. So if you want to talk about an incredible success during what should be a slower year for virtually everyone, our eXp Realty group is actually increasing by significant margins and units and in total dollar volume. So yes, we'd love to have you as part of our overall group and if you're ready to join eXp Realty here are your two paths. One, you can just frankly scroll down and click the link and go over that's in the show description below and read more about our eXp Realty group or you can just text me directly at 512 -758 -0206, 512 -758 -0206. In the market that is going to start happening, we're going to guess the next 6 to 12 months it's going to feel very much more like a real estate, frankly, recovery if not a surge. You definitely want to be with a broker that's going to have your back and definitely want to be with a team that you know is experienced to make it so you can help the most people and maximize your potential in real estate and please do consider Julie and I for the job of being your eXp Realty sponsors. All right, next surprising point. Well, next, in last year based on the NAR report, the typical agent had 12 transactions which was the same as the previous year. Now what was the sales volume? Well, the median sales volume for brokerage specialists increased to 3 .4 million from 2 .6 million, so things are looking up there as well. Now they always do a survey about how agents perceive what's going on with their prospects, right? Let's go back to that point, okay? So again, this always goes back to the interesting things when you dig into the numbers. So if the average agent and we are talking about 12 transactions, right? I'm looking at your notes. So 12 transactions and the average home in the United States is $400 ,000. So if you did, for example, I mean, if it's you guys, whatever your market commission is, but let's just call it $10 ,000, $10 ,000 times 12 transactions is $120 ,000 a year and you wonder why real estate is such an amazing business to be in. I mean, come on, it's incredible because during inflationary times, yes, everything is getting more expensive, but so is real estate, which means your average commission is also increasing. Look how smart you were to be in real estate where most everyone else is suffering from inflation and the cost of living and all the rest of it. You actually have a built -in pay increase year after year as things start to inflate even more so in real estate. So there you go, go you. Exactly. And related to that, 17 % of agents sold 10 million or more in volume, 4%, 15 million or more, and 5%, 20 million or more. Some of that you can chalk up to higher average sale prices, but again, go you because it's baked in that you're going to make more money doing more deals at a higher price, right? Okay, so let's look at the next one. All right, so at 32%, lack of inventory remains the most important factor limiting potential clients from making a purchase followed by housing affordability and difficulty finding the right property. I think difficulty finding the right property is the same as lack of inventory.

A highlight from 1262. Anti-CBDC Bill Vote! | 27 to 20 Stablecoins vs CBDCs
"You do not want to miss this one, we're going to be breaking down the CBDC vote that happened yesterday in DC. Also taking a look at a number of clips that'll give you some alignment as to what the future of CBDCs here in the United States might look like. We're going to break all that down for you. It's going to be a good one. My name is Paul Bearer, welcome back into Tech Path. Before we get started, I want to thank our sponsor, that's Tangem. And this is all about self -custody. When you think about CBDCs, you got to think about self -custody. Check out tangem .com, you can learn a little bit more about their wallet. They do slim as a bank card, secure as a bank vault, store, buy, earn, transfer, and swap thousands of coins and tokens. If you want to use their card, you can do so with two different types. You can get the classic wallet, or you can get this new Tangem wallet that is a new type of card that's going to give you optional seed phrases. You can order these in three -card packs, so it's very easy. I would suggest doing that, spend a little bit extra for that. Use our discount code to help kind of soften the blow there. But it's a great value, check it out, we'll leave a link down below, it does help the channel out. Let's get into a couple of the things that happened yesterday. The two I want to focus on are these right here. The Power of the Mint Act, and then also the CBDC Anti -Surveillance State Act. These were the two that were focused on primarily. And I want to go to an intro clip real quick to give you kind of a framework of how this all started there in D .C. Listen in. Today we'll consider a slate of legislation to bolster our national security, protect Americans' financial privacy, and shield our financial system from the risks associated with the potential central bank digital currency, or CBDC. Unlike decentralized cryptocurrencies, a central bank digital currency is a digital form of sovereign currency that is designed and issued by a government and transacts on a digital ledger that is controlled by that government. If not designed to emulate cash, could give the federal government the ability to surveil and restrict Americans' transactions. This is not just alarming, it's downright un -American. We've already seen examples of governments weaponizing their financial system against their citizens in China. We need to counter China by being the best version of ourselves. This bill expresses that sentiment that, yes, we're going to innovate and we're going to lead on blockchain and we're going to lead on digital assets, but we're going to do so the American way. And the way we do that is decentralized. We don't do this by centralizing it in a central bank. We can achieve the innovation potential of blockchain and the immediacy of payments and the frictionless payments future with what we did in July. And that is to create a regulatory framework for stablecoin. All right, so there's some fire in the belly of the lawmakers. I like what I'm hearing so far. This sounds pretty good. But we get into more. And remember, there's always a bad guy. So let's go, maybe girl, we'll go to the next clip with Maxine Waters. Thank you very much, Mr. Chairman. Unfortunately, Republicans are marking up one bill that is not bipartisan. We do know that 130 countries around the world are racing to develop and implement a CBDC. What will happen if CBDCs issued by other central banks gain traction as a preferred method of payment in international trade transactions? Are we comfortable allowing the Chinese yuan or currencies from other countries to overtake the U .S. dollar as a principal global reserve currency? Republicans are making baseless attacks against the CBDC that does not even exist. So with that, I yield back the balance of my time. All right, so Maxine in rare form, I shouldn't say rare, normal form with her. She's, of course, for the idea of CBDCs. The other thing, a lot of what she said could be applied to stablecoins. And what we're seeing around the world, this is the first time I think we are chasing other governments who are actually trying to suppress their citizens. I would kind of be in a position or the camp of not going that direction. I like what I'm hearing so far. But let's go into our next clip. This is going to be Mr. Sherman listening. And allowing the Federal Reserve to continue doing what they're doing, literally recruiting and hiring people in the San Francisco Fed office to build a central bank digital currency is the financial equivalent of allowing the empire from Star Wars to build the Death Star so long as they promise not to turn it on. I'm struck by the hypocrisy of the advocates of cryptocurrency. They come in and they say cryptocurrency is wonderful because it's digital and it's high tech and it's innovative. And then they propose a bill which, in the words of the ranking member, is an anti -innovation bill. And they describe the U .S. government as Darth Vader. They describe any attempt to enforce American laws as the action of Darth Vader in the empire. As Sam Bankman -Fried has demonstrated, crypto is perfect for hiding from your creditors. And while his body may be in jail, his money cannot be found. I yield back. General McNeil's back. Thank you. I just have some, you know, obviously I'm opposed to this bill, but I just want to know what I'm arguing against. All right. You can't make this stuff. What am I going against? I don't even know what I'm going against. All right. Well, the point is, is that Sherman's usually in that kind of position. Anti -innovation. I thought that was a rare little piece right there. Both these guys are going to go against anything that I think the Republicans or even to a certain extent, the bipartisan Capitol Hill lawmakers will go when it comes to crypto or anything that is even related to blockchain. Let's get into our next clip. This goes into a little bit more about the unbanked. Listen in. And the idea that this is somehow going to help the unbanked is insane. Because when you ask the unbanked, why are you unbanked? A lot of it is because of surveillance capitalism. A permissionless system would be something more similar to Bitcoin. You could digitize it. And frankly, that's why a lot of people have been drawn in the unbanked and underbanked community to crypto currencies like Bitcoin. I think one of the speakers for this bill said that people aren't banked because they oppose the quote surveillance state. People aren't banked because they don't have any money. It's amazing. The people who aren't banked are the people who don't have any money. I'd be willing to support this bill if it also ended crypto. Well, that's an interesting statement there. When you go to the FDIC site, this is the 2021 FDIC national survey of unbanked and underbanked households. Look at some of the data here on this. An estimated four and a half percent of U .S. household, approximately 5 .9 million were unbanked. This is 2021. OK, likelihood of this is much greater. Remember, we have a lot of immigrants in our country that in many cases also are coming from countries who they've seen their banking system maybe not work out so well for them. And they are very, very skeptical because of that. Some don't have enough money to meet minimum balance requirements, as cited, but around 21 percent. But most don't trust banks. This was the second most cited main reason for not having an account. Avoiding a bank gives more privacy was the third most cited main reason, 8 .4 percent. Further into the report, this was a piece right here. Who are the unbanked and underbanked breaking this out? Most is distrust of banks, inconvenient locations, high bank account fees, needed products and services are not offered by banks, poor credit history, you know, check system, etc. Typical challenges I think a lot of people in the unbanked sector face. Let's go to our next clip. I think this is a good one right here. This gets into the privacy side of things. I think there's what 2000 stable coins that are out there right now. None of them, none of them protects the security of American citizens privacy. And when an American citizen puts all their information out in the private sector and it's available to 200 different retailers and banks and and other governments, there is no expectation of privacy. That's our problem here. Some of my colleagues gloss over the fact the whole reason they're collecting the data in the first place is the government makes them collect it. Frankly, if you don't agree to spy on your customers, you don't get to operate a bank in the United States. You don't get to operate a money service business in the United States, essentially get permission from the government to act as a financial services institution. So long as you spy on your customers. About million 350 pieces of evidence sitting over at the Treasury on private sector activity, these giant, enormous government databases, which have been hacked, both the IRS and others, Office of Personnel Management and others do present tremendous targeting by bad actors. You know, this is really where it gets into the destruction of personal privacy. And this is the problem that we do face in our society. Some of the countries that are already down this slippery slope, countries like China, as an example, right here, China's central bank digital currency. This is the digital ID to deduct fines instantly from your digital wallet if you're caught for speeding or jaywalking by a surveillance system. So right there, this kind of shows the actual crime of jaywalking now portrayed on basically a bulletin board in front of everyone. And then, of course, automatically deducted. These are the kind of invasion capabilities. Talk about, you know, search and seizure. This is going to be able to break down the walls of search and seizure and do things within our own economies and within our own society that we would never dream of, especially around the Constitution. This is China right here. Super SIM cards now featuring new digital yuan functions is this super SIM card right here. It's going to function as a digital yuan wallet, smart card and I .D. cards as the nation's CBDC pilot continues. So this is going on to phones and will make its way into a position where you can no longer utilize because you have digital wallet. Now your wallet and you're going to be able to use this in a way in which you go to a grocery store, you go to any retailer and you use that as a payment for form. And that's where they can lock it down. And that's exactly what I think these lawmakers are fighting against. Let's go to our next clip. This will continue to show you a little bit more about this slippery slope of privacy. Look at my uncle and my cousin helped me get a cell phone that is linked to a Chinese bank card so that I could buy anything pleasing and I have to pass facial recognition identity verification, which is insane, because all I want to do is just spend my gift card balance on this debit.

A highlight from The Chopping Block: Will Warren of 0x on Its Settlement With the CFTC - Ep. 546
"I think basically been no agency that has offered really complete clarity about how crypto ought to be regulated. And it's not as though this is an impossible task. If you look around the world at other first world countries that have robust regulatory regimes, there's a lot of clarity in different places, which shows that it can be done. Not a dividend, it's a tale of two quants. Now, your losses are on someone else's balance sheet. Generally speaking, aircrafts are kind of pointless anyways. I'm in the trading firms who are very involved. DeFi protocols are the antidote to this problem. Hello everybody, welcome to The Chopping Block. Every couple of weeks, we get together and give the industry insiders perspective on the crypto topics of the day. This week, we're running a little bit short. I think it's actually, because it's conference season, people are getting sick. You might be able to hear, my voice is a little bit sickly right now. So we've got a skeleton crew today, but we've got a very interesting guest that's gonna keep things very lively. So quick intro is first we've got Tom, the DeFi Maven and Master of Memes. Joining us, special guests, we have Will Warren, Lord of Liquidity at 0x Labs. And you've got myself, I'm a see the head hype man at Dragonfly. So we are early stage investors in crypto, but I want to caveat that nothing we say here is investment advice, legal advice, or even life advice. Please see ChoppingBlock .xyz for more disclosures. So Will, it's great to have you on the show. For those of you who don't know, Tom and Will actually have, there's a lot of backstory here in the relationship between Matcha, the 0x settlement that we're gonna be talking about today. And Tom, Tom, do you want to go into that a little bit? What the origin story is here? I feel like that sounded somewhat nefarious or something like that. I know there's a whole backstory. It might be. I was an early employee at 0x and I was a product lead there for two years, worked on two different versions of the protocol and worked on the aggregator product, which turned into 0x API and later Matcha. So Will and I have known each other for a while. We are actually just catching up about some of the 0x mafia and the other 0x employees who are now doing cool stuff in crypto. So I'm excited to have him on today. So actually, Will, why don't you quickly explain what is 0x for those people who are sort of coming in, who only really know NFTs or whatever it is, who are not from the 2017 era. Explain to us what is 0x. Yeah, absolutely. So 0x is a protocol for exchanging ERC -20 tokens in a peer -to -peer way. It was one of the kind of first systems designed on top of Ethereum where there was kind of an off -chain component and an on -chain component. 0x protocol specifically specifies in order format or swapping one ERC -20 token for another and all of the kind of parameters associated with that trade. And this order can then be ingested within a Spark contract on the Ethereum blockchain to settle a trade atomically between two parties. Got it. And tell us as well about Matcha and how that fits into the suite of products under 0x. Yeah, absolutely. So a lot has changed over the years. So yeah, we've been around for seven years at this point. My co -founder Amir and I started working on 0x back in late 2016. And in the early years, and this was a really exciting time, this was when Tom was leading product, we were really focused on building a protocol. So an open protocol that anyone can build on top of, anyone can create their own ERC -20 token marketplace on top of the protocol, build like a front -end user experience on top of it. And over the years, we got closer and closer to end users and building the things that they need. And we started shifting our focus from building this unopinionated piece of public infrastructure for swapping tokens to also building a hosted service on top of it called 0xSwapAPI. And the swap API is basically giving developers exactly what they wanted and needed. They wanted to focus on building their consumer product. They wanted a simple way to support swapping between different assets within that product. And they didn't want to have to deal with smart contracts and all the complexity that comes with it. So our swap API is just a way to very easily kind of plug in an API that kind of looks and behaves similar to others they've worked with in the past, developers have worked with in the past, and it aggregates liquidity across a hundred different decentralized exchanges, most of them probably familiar with. And ultimately, as we kind of worked our way up the stack and got closer and closer to the end user, we started building Matcha, which is a consumer product and a front -end interface at matcha .xyz. And this is essentially a front -end that sits on top of our APIs. And you can think of it as like a search engine for tokens and liquidity. So it's a DEX aggregator. I think people who are familiar with one inch or I guess Uniswap X soon to be also a DEX aggregator of some kind. It's funny, actually, when I first got into crypto and when I first came into space full time in 2017, the first meetup I ever went to was an SF meetup. I think it was like off meetup .com, but it was like, literally, I just like Googled crypto meetups in San Francisco. It was a presentation by 0x. And I remember there was this big, I think it was you, and there was a slide deck that was like, everything is gonna be tokenized. And in the future, there's gonna be a billion tokens and a laundromat's gonna have a token and this country's gonna have a token. And I was like, wow, we're fucking going places. This industry is amazing. And it was a very different time, obviously. There was a degree of bullishness that has waxed and waned over time with respect to the tokenization story.

The Breakdown
A highlight from Is the SEC About to Go Scorched Earth?
"Welcome back to The Breakdown with me, NLW. It's a daily podcast on macro, Bitcoin, and the big picture power shifts remaking our world. What's going on, guys? It is Wednesday, September 20th, and today we're asking whether the SEC is about to go scorched earth. Before we do that, however, if you are enjoying The Breakdown, please go subscribe to it, give it a rating, give it a review, or if you want to dive deeper into the conversation, come join us on the Breakers Discord. You can find the link in the show notes or go to bit .ly slash breakdown pod. Hello friends, lots to get through today, so let's dive right in. The SEC is not done going after crypto exchanges, according to David Hirsch, the head of the agency's crypto assets and cyber unit. Speaking at the Securities Enforcement Forum Central in Chicago on Tuesday, Hirsch said securities law violations within the industry extend far beyond existing litigation. Now, keep in mind, the crypto division of the SEC is currently bogged down with complex lawsuits against both Coinbase and Binance, two of the largest crypto exchanges. Hirsch said his unit is investigating similar activity across other firms and believes non -compliant business practices, quote, hold true well beyond any two entities. Hirsch warned, Now, the SEC is apparently also turning its gaze towards DeFi platforms in this crusade against crypto intermediaries. Hirsch said, quote, Now, a common theme of recent comments from SEC chair Gary Gensler is to mock, quote, so -called decentralized finance. This perhaps indicates that the SEC believes underlying most DeFi protocols, they will be able to find a company to sue. All that said, despite outlining an ambitious enforcement agenda, Hirsch did concede that the agency's resources are constrained. Over recent decades, the SEC has largely dealt with regulated financial institutions, with The SEC's campaign against crypto firms has largely presented existential threats rather than manageable fines, leading to a significant number of contested lawsuits. Hirsch admitted during the panel that, quote, Reflecting on that point, Hirsch recognized the scale of the task he was proposing, stating that, And similarly, there are a number of centralized platforms out there, some that are acting as unregistered exchanges. So in some ways here, Hirsch is begrudgingly admitting that the SEC is getting close to capacity, at least when it comes to ongoing litigation. They're dealing with Coinbase, Binance and Ripple, all as major cases, LBRY Library seems to be wanting to go to appeal, then there's Grayscale, which continues to be a legal battle, as well as the two recent NFT cases which settled. So the question is, can the SEC handle five lawsuits at once? Can they handle 10? Even if you think the answer is yes, at what point do you think the answer becomes no? Frankly, this is maybe why people like Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong are encouraging the industry to take up arms effectively and actually fight these legal battles out in court. Now, of course, this brings up the other question of whether the SEC can bank on funding for additional resources to expand this endeavor or whether they need to have some alternative approach. This, of course, echoes the talking point from both the GOP as well as from Dems like The SEC's regulation by enforcement approach is reaching the end of its limits to the extent that it ever was successful at all, and that a much smarter pathway at this point might actually be rulemaking and guidance rather than just trying to sue the industry off the face of the planet. Look, crypto companies are fighting back. It's only a matter of time before we see some sort of coordinated defense fund, and it wouldn't be surprising to me if even this beleaguered industry can marshal a heck of a lot more resources than the SEC can on its own. Now, the other side of the coin is how much time the SEC actually has left to bring the industry to heel. Fox Business reporter Eleanor Teret tweeted yesterday, Only 13 days left for the SEC to bring enforcement actions that will count towards fiscal year 2023 enforcement numbers. The agency filed 760 total enforcement actions in FY 2022. I wonder if we'll see a surge of cases in the next two weeks? Now, certainly when it comes to the crypto industry, there is a broad sense of bring it on. Crypto trader Laxman writes, SEC warns of upcoming charges against crypto and DeFi exchanges. Few might think this will kill crypto. I feel like this will kill SEC. Crypto McKenna retweeted the headline, SEC warns more charges against crypto and DeFi exchanges are coming, and added the Latin phrase, if you want peace, prepare for war. Simplest of all, the Gordon Law Group just said, bring it on, Gary. Now, moving to the global sphere, a German regulator has stressed the risks of crypto and called for global regulations to apply consistently without exception. On Monday, Rupert Schaefer, executive director of strategy, policy and control at the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority, Baffin, published a blog post on the importance of united global regulation on crypto. He warned of the dangers of unregulated crypto firms using a fairly labored analogy to airspace regulation. Schaefer likened the crypto regulation to air traffic control regulations, which are relatively uniform throughout the world. In this analogy, some crypto assets and DeFi projects were UFOs. He stated then that it would be negligent to simply ignore them. Schaefer warned that FTX was a major crash and there would be many more like it to come. Now, the regulator praised the recently passed MICA regulations in Europe, but argued that further steps need to be taken. He produced a long list of global proposals from the Financial Stability Board, the International Association of Securities Commissions, the Financial Action Task Force and the Basel Committee, and this he claimed was enough to establish a global consensus, stating that quote, the international regulatory principles have been adopted and the framework has been set. Now, the common principles must be implemented consistently and consistently worldwide. There should be no white spots in the flight radar. The global rules should also apply to niche financial centers. Now, this blog post comes a little over a week since the conclusion of the G20 summit, which was pitched as an opportunity to discuss global synchronization of crypto policy. G20 leaders did manage to produce an endorsement of the latest set of policy recommendations published by the Financial Stability Board. And in her article previewing the meeting, Noelle Acheson highlighted that the adoption of FSB recommendations was quote, very likely since the recommendations don't actually say anything interesting. Noelle noted that the FSB recommendations are more around notational international cooperation and vague platitudes about enforcing risk management rather than firm policy outlines. At the same time, none of the recommendations mentioned by Schaeffer actually achieved consensus approval at the G20, calling into question how the regulator can claim that there are any common principles whatsoever. Moving over to the UK. The UK House of Lords have passed a bill which would grant authorities the power to freeze and seize crypto assets associated with crime. Currently, UK authorities cannot apply for crypto assets to be frozen unless there has been an arrest or conviction. This bill would allow them to more quickly apply for freeze orders. Hundreds of millions worth of crypto linked to crime have been seized by local authorities, but experts say this new bill could help deal with situations that aren't easily dealt with under the current legal framework. Phil Aris, Director of UK Public Sector Relations at TRM Labs said, A government fact sheet suggested even more broad use, stating that quote, The creation of a crypto asset's specific civil forfeiture power will mitigate the risk posed by those that cannot be prosecuted, but use their funds to further criminality or for terrorist purposes. Isabella Chase, Senior Policy Advisor at blockchain analytics firm TRM Labs suggested that the measure could assist with police funding, stating that quote, Corker Bining was less enthusiastic about the fundraising prospects, noting that as the UK cracks down, quite, they might find that the pool of available targets quickly dwindles as suspected criminals move their assets offshore to less enthusiastically policed jurisdictions. The bill has already been passed in the House of Commons once, so will now return for a second vote before it can be given royal assent to become law. Now, I don't know what sort of free society we're dealing with here. With the big caveat that I am not a lawyer, the discourse around this is pretty wild to me. It seems like they're talking effectively about on -chain asset forfeiture without the requirement to charge anyone with a crime. This is the digital equivalent of police being able to take what they find in your trunk if they search your car and not have to give it back to you. That's an insane policy and so is this. And I hope not just for the sake of the crypto industry, but for the sake of the UK itself, some real, real limits are put around this. Staying in the UK, however, for just a moment, on Tuesday, UK lawmakers passed the controversial online safety bill. The bill requires companies to assess the likelihood of customers encountering illegal content and of children encountering harmful content. Proponents of the bill say it will be used to protect younger internet users and make the web a safer place. The government has claimed the bill would make the UK, quote, the safest place in the world to be online. Critics, however, have warned that depending on how the bill is enforced, it could require companies to do away with encrypted messaging and essentially any notion of online privacy. WhatsApp, Signal and Telegram have all threatened to exit the UK if the bill was passed. Earlier this month, regulators attempted to appease encrypted messaging apps by promising to only implement text scanning if it was technically feasible, but WhatsApp head Will Cathcart appeared unconvinced, tweeting last week that, quote, the fact remains that scanning everyone's messages would destroy privacy as we know it. That was as true last year as it is today. WhatsApp will never break our encryption and remains vigilant against threats to do so. Signal President Meredith Whitaker was a little bit more hopeful that the implementation would be thoughtful. She said, quote, while it's not everything we wanted, we are more optimistic than we were when we began engaging with the UK government. It matters that the government came out publicly clearly acknowledging that there is no technology that can safely and privately scan everyone's communications. At this point, it is imperative that we press regulators to incorporate the government's safely and privately scan end to end encryption communications and push them to clearly and publicly commit to not using the unchecked and unprecedented power vested in them to undermine private communications infrastructure. Whitaker confirmed that Signal would remain available in the UK for the time being. But for content and messaging platforms, the enforcement of the bill is a high stakes issue, with the maximum penalty being up to 10 percent of global revenue. Lastly, today, an update from a story earlier in the week. We have recently talked about JPX, a crypto exchange that has come under fire from Hong Kong authorities. At the time, withdrawals were effectively halted and one influencer had been arrested for promoting the platform. Reporting on Monday morning stated that authorities had received 83 complaints related to assets worth $4 .3 million. Since then, the case has dramatically escalated. Authorities have now received over 1 ,600 complaints involving over $150 million worth of assets. Eight people have now been arrested with the expectation that more arrests are coming. Police have now stated that the arrests are in relation to conspiracy to commit fraud rather than merely promotion of an unlicensed exchange. Twenty locations have been raided across Hong Kong with police seizing cash, jewelry, computers and phones worth around $1 million. Police have frozen around $2 million held in bank accounts owned by arrested suspects, alongside about $5 .5 million in property. Authorities are currently considering the confiscation of around $8 million in criminal proceeds. On Monday, JPX blamed the Securities and Futures Commission and their counterparties within the industry for causing an illiquidity crisis. They said in a statement, When other cryptocurrency exchanges announced their entry into the Hong Kong market and began extensive promotion, JPX was subjected to continuous unfair treatment. The SFC sent letters to all of our partners requesting the cessation of cooperation with the platform. On Tuesday, however, Elizabeth Wong, director of licensing at the SFC, confirmed that the regulator had asked counterparties to step away from the unlicensed exchange. The regulator had been monitoring the platform for months and issued numerous warnings to users. She said that since those warnings were issued, JPX went from bad to worse. The events surrounding JPX could be seen either as a sign that Hong Kong authorities are serious about enforcement of new crypto regulations or an indication that the city still has a long way to go in cleaning up the industry. As we discussed before, given Hong Kong's role as a bellwether for Chinese authorities' attitudes towards crypto, this is a story that we will continue to watch. However, for now, that is going to do it for today's breakdown. I appreciate you listening, as always. Until next time, be safe and take care of each other.

The HUMAN Training
Setting Realistic Expectations For Your Dog Training Lessons
"So today we are going to be talking about lessons. So someone's needing a lesson or wanting to get a lesson with the dog trainer, or perhaps it's a board and train and they're going in for their first lesson. And what are expectations that dog owners should have of what they're going to get out of, what they're going to learn, what they're going to have to do in a lesson, a one -on -one lesson with the trainer? Let's go over what our lessons look like. Okay. So ours are what, about half an hour long, 45 minutes long, and it's very much, I'm going to show you with your dog, I'm going to show you with the dog, then you're going to do it in front of me, and we're going to really make sure we're all doing it correctly. We're going to tell you, then show you, and then watch you do it. And we do our - And then a tweet can help you. Yeah. Yeah. If you're struggling or anything like that. I know board and trains are a little different. They go home every Friday. So if you have a three -week board and train, you have a half hour, 45 -minute lesson every Friday. Every Friday. Yeah. And then - That's really a big difference because a lot of board and trains, they'll do a, they call it a go home or a send home lesson in their two, three hours because it's the only lesson quite often that person is going to get with their trainer. So the expectation, if I was the owner, going to that type of lesson would be overwhelmed. That would be my expectation because really who goes to a class for three hours without a break? I mean, you go to a seminar or workshop in about an hour and 15 hours and 30 minutes, they're taking a potty break for everybody because everyone's mentally checked out. Even if you paid to be there, you're mentally checking out. It's like death by PowerPoint. It's just too much information. And then you expect your dog to perform for two hours - Or three. If that dog is possible. Yeah. That's not possible. No matter what kind of dog you got. They can check out. Dog trainers themselves will check out. Yeah. And they, to be a dog trainer, you have to have some flavor of idioms. Because that really lesson, you know, that two, three hour lesson, they're still doing the same thing. Hopefully a good trainer is going to tell you what you're about to do, show you how to do it, hand you the leash and have you deal with your dog. Man, that's just, oh Lord, that's all time consuming. But why do we do that? Why do we do, why do we tell, show and deal? Retention. Retention. The hardest part about this entire industry is training humans. Dogs - Yeah. It's not for the dog. Not for the dog. The dog knows how to do everything. It's supposed to. Know how to do everything - That, you know, we're doing in the lesson - Yeah. With our client. Now it's to get the client up speed, but it's also a transfer of leadership over to that client. Yeah. Now we're showing the dog, yeah, mom and dad know how to do this too. You can't go home and look at them like they got a third eyeball growing out of their forehead because they said sit to you. Yeah. Because dogs will associate. That's how they learn. Just like humans. They'll associate all these new commands and skills they've learned here with us. So that lesson helps them, oh, I got to do this with my family too. Yeah. But it also makes it easier on humans too because it's never a question, does my dog know how to heal? Right. No, they can do it. They can do it very well and they can do it for you. Clearly we did it for you. Yeah. Now if there's a disconnect at home, it's probably a house problem. Yeah. Or handling the leech problem usually.

Thanks and God bless. Part Three, Chapter 38 of the Introduction to the Devout Life by St. Francis de Sales. This is a Discerning Hearts recording read by Corey Webb. Chapter 38, Councils to Married People. Marriage is a great sacrament both in Jesus Christ and His Church, and one to be honored to all, by all, and in all. To all, for even those who do not enter upon it, should honor it in all humility. By all, for it is wholly alike to poor as to rich. In all, for its origin, its end, its form and matter are wholly. It's the nursery of Christianity, whence the earth is peopled with faithful, till the number of the elect in heaven be perfected, so that respect for the marriage tie is exceedingly important to the commonwealth, of which it is the source and supply. Would to God that His dear Son were bidden to all weddings as to that of Cana? Truly, then the wine of consolation and blessing would never be lacking. For if these are often so wanting, it is because too frequently now men summon Adonis instead of our Lord, and Venus rather than our Lady. He who desires that the young of his flock should be like Jacob's, fair and ring -streaked, must set fair objects before their eyes, and he who would find a blessing in his marriage must ponder the holiness and dignity of this sacrament, instead of, which too often weddings become a season of mere feasting and disorder. Above all, I would exhort all married people to seek that mutual love so commended to them by the Holy Spirit in the Bible. It is little to bid you love one another with the mutual love. Turtle doves do that, or with human love. The heathen cherished such love as that. But I say to you in the apostles' words, Husbands, love your wives even as Christ also loved the church. Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands as unto the Lord. It was God who brought Eve to our first father Adam, and gave her to him to wife. And even so, my friends, it is God's invisible hand which binds you in the sacred bonds of marriage. It is He who gives you one to the other, therefore cherish one another with a holy, sacred, heavenly love. The first effect of this love is the indissoluble union of your hearts. If you glue together two pieces of deal, provided that the glue be strong, their union will be so close that the stick will break more easily in any other part than where it is joined. Now God unites husband and wife so closely in himself that it should be easier to sunder soul from body than husband from wife. Nor is this union to be considered as mainly of the body, but yet more a union of the heart, its affections and love. The second effect of this love should be inviolable fidelity to one another. In olden times, finger rings weren't want to be graven as seals. We read of it in holy scriptures, and this explains the meaning of the marriage ceremony, when the church, by the hand of their priest, blesses a ring and gives it first to the man in token that she sets a seal on his heart by this sacrament, so that no thought of any other woman may even enter therein so long as she who now is given to him shall live. Then the bridegroom places the ring on the bride's hand, so that she in turn may know that she must never conceive any affection in her heart for any other man so long as he shall live, who is now given to her by our Lord himself. The third end of marriage is the birth and bringing up of children, and herein, O you married people, are you greatly honored in that God willing to multiply souls to bless and praise him to all eternity? He associates you with himself in this his work, by the production of bodies into which, like dew from heaven, he infuses the souls he creates as well as the bodies into which they enter. Therefore husbands, do you preserve a tender constant hearty love for your wives? It was that the wife might be loved heartily and tenderly that woman was taken from the side nearest Adam's heart. No failings or infirmities, bodily or mental, in your wife should ever excite any kind of dislike in you, but rather a loving, tender compassion, and that because God has made her dependent on you and bound to defer to and obey you, that while she is meant to be your helpmate, you are her superior and her head. And on your part, wives, do you love the husbands God has given you tenderly, heartily, but with a reverential confiding love? For God has made the man to have the predominance and to be the stronger, and he of his flesh, taking her from out of the ribs of the man, to show that she must be subject to his guidance. All holy Scripture enjoins this subjection, which nevertheless is not grievous, and the same holy Scripture, while it bids you accept it lovingly, bids your husbands to use his superiority with great tenderness, loving -kindness and gentleness. Husbands dwell with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor unto the wife as unto the weaker vessel. But while you seek diligently to foster this mutual love, give good heed that it do not turn to any manner of jealousy. Just as the worm is often hatched in the sweetest and ripest apple, so too often jealousy springs up in the most warm and loving hearts, defiling and ruining them, and if it is allowed to take root, it will produce dissension, quarrels and separation. Of a truth, jealousy never arises where love is built up on true virtue, and therefore it is a sure sign of an earthly sensual love, in which mistrust and inconstancy is soon infused. It is a sorry kind of friendship which seeks to strengthen itself by jealousy, for though jealousy may be a sign of strong hot friendship, it is certainly no sign of a good pure perfect attachment, and that because perfect love implies absolute trust in the person loved, whereas jealousy implies uncertainty. If you, husbands, would have your wives faithful, be it yours to set them the example. How have you the face to exact purity from your wives, asks Saint Gregory Nazianzen, if you yourself live an impure life? Or, how can you require that which you do not give in return? If you would have them chaste, let your own conduct to them be chaste. Saint Paul bids you possess your vessel in sanctification, but, if on the contrary, you teach them evil, no wonder that they dishonor you. And you, O women, whose honor is inseparable from modesty and purity, preserve it jealously, and never allow the smallest speck to soil the whiteness of your reputation. Shrink sensitively from the various trifles which can touch it, never permit any gallantries whatsoever. Suspect any who presume to flatter your beauty or grace, for when men praise wares they cannot purchase, they are often tempted to steal. And if anyone should dare to speak in disparagement of your husband, show that you are irrecoverably offended, for it is plain that he not only seeks your fall, but he counts you as half -fallen, since the bargain with the newcomer is half -made when one is disgusted with the first merchant. Ladies, both in ancient and modern times have worn pearls in their ears, for the sake, so says Pliny, of hearing them tinkle against each other. But remembering how the friend of God Isaac sent earrings as first pledges of his love to the chaste Rebecca, I look upon this mystic ornament as signifying that the first claim a husband has over his wife, and one which she ought most faithfully to keep for him, is her ear, so that no evil word or rumor enter therein, and not be heard save the pleasant sound of true and pure words, which are represented by the choice pearls of the Gospel. Never forget that souls are faithfulness lead to familiarity and confidence, and saints have abounded in tender caresses Isaac and Rebecca. The type of chaste married life indulged in such caresses as to convince Abimelech that they must be husband and wife. The great St. Louis, strict as he was to himself, was so tender towards his wife that some were ready to blame him for it, although, in truth, he rather deserved praise for subjecting his lofty, marital mind to the little details of conjugal love. Such minor matters will not suffice to knit hearts, but they tend to draw them closer and promote mutual happiness. Before giving birth to St. Augustine, St. Monica offered him repeatedly to God's glory, as he himself tells us, and it is not a good lesson for Christian women how to offer the fruit of their womb to God. Who accepts the free oblations of loving hearts and promotes the desires of such faithful mothers? Witness Samuel St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Andrea Deficile, and others. St. Bernard's mother, worthy of such a son, was wont to take her newborn babes in her arms to offer them to Jesus Christ, thenceforth loving them with a reverential love as a sacred deposit from God. And so entirely was her offering accepted that all her seven children became saints. And when children begin to use their reason, fathers and mothers should take great pains to fill their hearts with the fear of God. This the good queen Blanche did most earnestly by St. Louis her son. Witness her oft -repeated words, My son, I would sooner see you die than guilty of a mortal sin, words which sank so deeply into the saintly monarch's heart, that he himself said there was no day on which they did not recur to his mind and strengthen him in treading God's ways. We call races and generations, houses, and the Hebrews were to want to speak of the birth of children as the building up of the house, as it is written of the Jewish midwives in Egypt, that the Lord made them houses, whereby we learn that a good house is not reared so much by the accumulation of worldly goods as by the bringing up of children in the ways of holiness and of God. And to this end, no labor or trouble must be spared, for children are the crown of their parents. Thus it was that St. Monica steadfastly withstood St. Augustine's evil propensities, and, following him across sea and land, he became more truly the child of her tears in the conversion of his soul than the son of her body in his natural birth. St. Paul assigns the charge of the household to the woman, and, consequently, some hold that the devotion of the family depends more upon the wife than the husband, who is more frequently absent, and has less influence in the house. Certainly King Solomon, in the book of Proverbs, refers all households' prosperity to the care and industry of that virtuous woman whom he describes. We read in Genesis that Isaac entreated the Lord for his wife, because she was barren, or as the Hebrews read it, he prayed over against her, on opposite sides of the place of prayer, and his prayer was granted. This is the most fruitful union between husband and wife which is founded in devotion, to which they should mutually stimulate one another. They are certain fruits like the quince, of so bitter a quality, that they are scarcely eatable, save when preserved, while others again, like cherries and apricots, are so delicate and soft that they can only be kept by the same treatment. So the wife must seek that her husband be sweetened with the sugar of devotion, for man without religion is a rude rough animal, and the husband will desire to see his wife devout, as without her frailty and weakness are liable to tarnish an injury. Saint Paul says that the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband, because in so close a tie one may easily draw the other to what is good, and how great is the blessing on those faithful husbands and wives who confirm one another continually in the fear of the Lord. Moreover, each should have such forbearance towards the other that they never grow angry or fall into discussion and argument. The bee will not dwell in a spot where there is much loud noise or shouting, or echo, neither will God's Holy Spirit dwell in a household where altercation and tumult, arguing and quarreling, disturb the peace. Saint Gregory Nenzen said that in his time married people were wont to celebrate the anniversary of their wedding, and it is a custom I should greatly approve, provided it were not a merely secular celebration, but if husbands and wives would go on that day to confession and communion, and commend their married life specially to God, renewing their resolution to promote mutual good by increased love and faithfulness, and thus take breath, so to say, and gather new vigor from the Lord to go on steadfastly in their vocation.

STIXX Is Transforming STEM Education With Hands-On, User-Friendly Resources
"Of the major challenge for a lot of science teachers is they don't have engineering background. And then compartmental of that is resources. How does TIGS help? What kind of resources do you provide or can you provide the science teachers to meet the needs of students when it comes to engineering practices? Yeah, great question. I hear and I see that need and that problem all day, every day, too. And as far as the resources we provide, and I'll just back up actually to the engineering design process of a famous slogan, right? And that's an engineer's the STEM world's scientific method. And that's something that I just think is one of the coolest things. And it talks about brainstorming, which is an ideation phase and identifying the problem on paper and designing it. And then where the real fun happens, my opinion is the iteration of it, where you're improving things and then you're documenting. And that's all on top of the design and the actual build. That's where we're engineering and the engineering design process differentiates from just plain old science a little bit. And I think that's cool about this stuff. And as far as Stix goes, that's that is a big part of what we do is what if you were to ask me to part of our value add, if you will. It is that we make these fun, memorable, impactful STEM experiences for kids while at the same time making accessible for educators who are already being pulled in a million directions, not want to pull their hair out. So we've got all kinds of resources like these instructional videos on our website that aren't protected by passwords or log in for any means. They can access those and that's a student facing part and those videos. They take a lot of the heavy lifting out of the actual pedagogy and teaching for the teachers on top of showing instructional videos for how to build a fun, hands on project. And I've got a few behind my screen here when you want to see them. Yeah. Go ahead, please. Go ahead. Yeah. And I was just going to say that's all those videos are on top of lesson plans and activity guides. We even have another teacher tips video where we share what works and what doesn't while leading this project. Sorry for getting a little long winded on you, but we do have all kinds of great resources that make these fun, meaningful STEM projects really easy for teachers to teach, even without a STEM background. Oh, no, I don't mind you being a long winded, but I can keep going. I can. The moment you mention resources, my ears is all open. I love the sound of that resources. We are every teacher, especially every science teacher. Love the sound of that resources to teach all to integrate engineering practices within the science curriculum. This is really powerful. I know earlier we were talking about hydraulics and the wind turbine. I know you showed me. Do you mind sharing the rest of our audience? I got you. And this is always a popular one for me to bring to conferences and show people that type of thing. But this is just an example of some of the stuff that students get to build and be immersed in when they're doing projects with us is this is a cool hydraulic lift project. So you can see a little bit of the setup. Of course, they get immersed into a story. They learn the science behind this stuff, and then they get to build and test out a fun project like this hydraulic lift. I promise a funny business going on. It's just all the principles of hydraulics. And we teach about the industry related to that as well. This wind turbine project is one of my favorites as well. It deals with the renewable energy. The actual kit comes with a blow dryer or a hair dryer. I'm sorry to test this out, but I'll do my best with my mouth. Oh, that's pretty cool. Even a little bit of wind, not the wind turbine. And then I'll show you one more if you like. It's the stoplight project where we teach about the principles of electrical engineering and that kind of stuff. And of course, give them a chance to build a fun project. Hopefully the LED light is popping up. Yeah, it is. Kind of a fun project teaching them about electricity and current and everything associated with that. Oh, that is really awesome. That is really cool.

The Breakdown
A highlight from Anti-CBDC Bills Advance in Congress
"Welcome back to The Breakdown with me, NLW. It's a daily podcast on macro, Bitcoin, and the big picture power shifts remaking our world. What's going on, guys? It is Monday, September 18th, and today we are talking about anti -CBDC legislation being advanced. Before we get into that, however, if you are enjoying The Breakdown, please go subscribe to it, give it a rating, give it a review, or, if you want to dive deeper into the conversation, come join us on the Breakers Discord. You can find a link in the show notes or go to bit .ly slash breakdown pod. Hello, friends. Happy Monday. Welcome to another week, another frankly weirdly quiet week right now. I don't know. There's something out there. There's some bad juju. I guess it could just be another example of this weird period of the cycle that we're in that's sort of past the worst, but definitely before the good stuff starts again, but I'm excited. But we are not going to dwell on that. Instead, we are going to hop, skip, and jump through a number of things that have happened over the last few days, kicking it off with what has become a surprising political issue this election cycle, which is central bank digital currencies. The House Financial Services Committee will hold a markup section on Wednesday, which will include two bills aimed at preventing the issuance of a US CBDC. The first bill is Tom Emmer's CBDC Anti -Surveillance State Act, which would prevent the Federal Reserve from offering any products or services directly to individuals. Fed branches would also be prohibited from keeping accounts for individuals or issuing a CBDC or similar digital assets. Emmer's bill was recently reintroduced during last week's CBDC hearing and now boasts 49 co -sponsors. On September 14th, the House Majority Whip tweeted, A governmental tool for financial surveillance is un -American. We must urgently develop a digital financial system that is 1. Open and freely accessible to all. 2. Without requiring permission from the government or anybody else. 3. Private safeguarding the user's identity. In a separate tweet, he had said, If not open, permissionless, and private, like cash, a CBDC is nothing more than a CCP -style surveillance tool that can be weaponized to oppress the American way of life. The second bill is sponsored by Alex Mooney and is called the Digital Dollar Pilot Prevention Act. That bill is structured as an amendment of the Federal Reserve Act of 1913 that would prevent Federal Reserve branches from even conducting CBDC testing and development. Now, of course, senior Fed officials have gone on the record to say they have no plans to issue a CBDC without the approval of Congress. In May, Minneapolis Fed President Neil Kashkari even questioned the need for a CBDC given the existence of instant payment fintech services. He noted that CBDCs would be a powerful financial surveillance tool and could enforce negative interest rates, but questioned why the U .S. government would have any interest in constructing such a system. Now, all that said, some Fed branches still do seem to be interested in the development of CBDC technology. The San Francisco Fed, for example, recently advertised a position for a crypto -architect for a CBDC project, and Project Hamilton was concluded and wound down in December after two years of collaboration between the Boston Fed and MIT. Now, in terms of where this legislation actually is, the markup process allows committee members to comment on the drafting of bills. A vote is then taken on whether or not to approve legislation for a full House vote. Both bills are only a few paragraphs long, so shouldn't drag out to an all -day, contested affair as we recently saw with the stablecoin bill. Instead, the bills could act as a bellwether for congressional sentiment around CBDCs. Multiple Republican presidential candidates have made opposition to a CBDC a part of their campaign. For example, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said at a July event, If I am president, on day one we will nix central bank digital currency. Done. Dead. Not happening in this country. Outsider Democrat candidate Robert F. Kennedy has also been outspoken on the need to oppose the issuance of a CBDC. So given all that, if either of these bills progress to a vote in the House, they could be an opportunity to put members of Congress on record about their support for a CBDC coming into election season. Now, we could spend shows and shows and shows talking about why this seemingly small issue, at least to the rest of the world. Obviously, I'm not talking about for our audience and our community. But this issue, which is for all intents and purposes very small to most people, has become such a central piece of the opposition narrative heading into this election cycle. I think there are probably a few different elements of it. One, I think it feels to many like an extension of government power. And as we've seen and discussed, it is quite clear that how much power governments have is going to be a major issue. And of course, while that's coming from the Republican side of the House, it's also coming from Democrats. And this is perhaps not surprising. It's not surprising because we're still coming off the COVID period, which brought up major questions of how much authority the government has to be involved in people's lives. And so in many ways, this is an extension of that conversation. I think there is also a little bit of nervousness around technology in general. This is something that we've seen in crypto. It's certainly something that we see in AI as well. And while this is technology in the hands of the government, not technology in the hands of big tech companies, it still has that feeling of lots of data, lots of power, lots of information, big black holes, and not a clear way for citizens to exert influence when it comes to this important domain of their lives. Anyway, right now, there's no one who's really actively arguing for a CBDC, which could frankly be another reason why it's a nice political issue. It gets to stay a little bit, at least in the realm of metaphor for some of these larger topics, but it's still something that can be legislated upon with lower stakes than going after government power directly. Anyways, it's one we're going to keep an eye on to see just to what extent it continues to be an issue in elections or whether it's just part of this early narrative testing process at this very nascent point in the election cycle. Next up, we go halfway around the world to Hong Kong, where the Hong Kong Monetary Authority has issued a warning to crypto users that unregistered crypto firms could be presenting themselves as banks. The HKMA, which serves as the region's banking regulator, said that firms which use language associated with the banking industry could be in violation of recently implemented Hong Kong crypto regulations. The regulator said it had become aware of firms using terms including crypto bank and offering quote banking services. They even went so far as to call out firms that use the word deposits or promote their quote savings plans as low risk with high return. The HKMA said in a statement that quote, The regulator noted that these firms advertising themselves as crypto banks were not supervised by the HKMA and are not covered by the region's deposit protection scheme. Now, Hong Kong's crypto regulations coming into force in June was one of the big stories of this year. The rules were intended to permit retail crypto trading on regulated exchanges and they're being administered by the local securities agency rather than the banking regulator. Since then, only a small handful of firms have been granted licenses. This includes HashKey and OSL, who were licensed to provide retail trading exchanges, as well as Swiss -based crypto bank Ciba, which has received in principle approval to offer over -the -counter derivatives trading and asset management services. Now, enforcement of Hong Kong's crypto regulations has also begun in earnest. Last Wednesday, the securities regulator issued a warning against Dubai -based crypto exchange J -PEX. They alleged the firm had been promoting its products and services in Hong Kong without applying for a license. A press release from the securities regulator included allegations that J -PEX were advertising their services using the prohibited terms deposits, savings or earnings. They noted that many J -PEX products had quote, The regulator also accused influencers and local OTC desks of making false and misleading statements on social media that J -PEX had applied for licensing. Following the warning, J -PEX employees seemingly disappeared from their booth at the Token 2049 conference in Singapore, where they were a platinum sponsor. And on Sunday, the exchange ramped up withdrawal fees to $999 and also implemented $1 ,000 withdrawal limits, essentially being a withdrawal halt. Now, J -PEX addressed this on Sunday, blaming quote unfair treatment by relevant institutions in Hong Kong towards J -PEX. They said that quote, J -PEX said they were currently negotiating with these market makers to resolve liquidity issues. The exchange promised to quote, They claim that emergency withdrawals are still being dealt with manually and also announced that trading on their earned trading platform would be halted on Monday. Now, adding something to the story, on Monday, the South China Morning Post reported that local police had received at least 83 complaints about J -PEX involving assets worth around $4 .3 million. They say the securities regulator had escalated investigations to the Commercial Crime Bureau on suspicions of fraud. Follow -up reporting said that lawyer turned crypto influencer Joseph Lamb -Chalk had been arrested on Monday in connection to promotion of the exchange. Sources also said an office building had been raided on Monday morning. Now, there's a lot that's actually really worth watching here. Hong Kong creating this licensing regime is not just relevant for citizens of Hong Kong, although it certainly is for them. This has been seen, rightly so, as a marker of slightly shifting Chinese attitudes towards crypto in general. When these rules were first announced as forthcoming at the end of last year, it was widely anticipated that it would include a retail trading ban. Remember, crypto trading has been banned in China for the last few years. However, in the wake of FTX, and in particular the US's aggressive response to it, it appeared that the Chinese authorities might be reconsidering their position and in so doing using Hong Kong as a vehicle for testing the waters on the market without changing any policy in mainland China. In that light, I don't know exactly what this enforcement action around J -PEX actually signals. Arresting an influencer certainly sends a signal, but to what the ends of that signal are, I'm just not sure. I do think, however, it's probably worth weighting this issue as a little bit more significant than just a regional crackdown, as it may have bigger implications given the unique role Hong Kong plays relative to China when it comes to crypto. Next up, we move back to bankruptcy proceedings in the US where Gemini have slammed the proposed settlement between DCG and their subsidiary, Genesis, calling it misleading at best in a court filing on Friday. Now you'll remember that earlier last week, DCG had filed a proposed deal which would settle approximately $630 million in outstanding loan payments to Genesis. DCG said the deal could result in 90 % recoveries for unsecured creditors and recoveries as high as 95 % to 110 % for Gemini Earn customers who form the largest creditor entity in the Genesis bankruptcy. Gemini said in their court filing, however, that, quote, DCG touts proposed recovery rates that are a total mirage, misleading at best and deceptive at worst. Make no mistake, Gemini lenders will not actually receive anything close in real value terms to the proposed recovery rates under the current agreement in principle, end quote. DCG had proposed a repayment schedule for $1 .65 billion in total loans over seven years. Although the agreement had a substantial payment in the first year, criticism of the deal noted that recovery calculations were contingent on crypto -denominated payments becoming more valuable over time. I think the numbers were something like Bitcoin going to $85 ,000 and ETH going to $8 ,500. Gemini customers are owed around $1 .1 billion and it appears that taking on long -term risks associated with crypto prices and the continued solvency of DCG are simply not acceptable to them. Gemini said in their filing, quote, receiving a fractional share of interest in principal payments over seven years from an incredibly risky counterparty is not even remotely equivalent to receiving the actual cash and digital assets owed today by Genesis to the Gemini lenders. They added that, quote, DCG's proposal is markedly parallel to an attempt to satisfy its significant obligations through the issuance of IOUs instead of paying any real cash and digital assets. Gemini lawyers also slammed DCG's negotiation tactics, claiming they had made efforts to suggest that they would become desperate enough to take a significant haircut just to move on. On their creditors update blog, Gemini put it even more pointedly, stating that, quote, DCG is gaslighting creditors and testing earned users' resolve by baiting them with false promises of high recoveries. Now, hanging over the current state of the Genesis bankruptcy is the firm's right to exclusively propose recovery plans. The judge had granted a 30 -day extension to the exclusivity period through to early next month. That order was contested by Gemini and ended up falling short of the 60 -day extension requested by Genesis. After the exclusivity period has elapsed, creditors will be able to organize their own proposed deal to bring the bankruptcy to a close. Finally, separately on Friday, Gemini updated their lawsuit against DCG and CEO Barry Silbert. They now include four direct allegations that intercompany loans between DCG and Genesis were designed to, quote, make the market believe it had actually fixed Genesis's cratering financial condition. So there you have it. There are a number of other things that happened over the weekend or around the end of last week that we may touch on in conversations later. Mark Cuban got fished for almost a million bucks, for example. The New York Times leaked parts of a 15 ,000 -word Sam Bankman -Fried ramble that amounts to a very self -pitying reflection on the state of affairs. And Google's head of Web3 is begging the industry to build something actually useful. For now, though, we are going to wrap it there. We're going to get to the hard work of building back this industry from the ground up. I appreciate you hanging out here with me as we go about that work. So until next time, be safe and take care of each other. Peace.

Cloud Security Podcast by Google
A highlight from EP139 What is Chronicle? Beyond XDR and into the Next Generation of Security Operations
"Hi there, welcome to the Cloud Security Podcast by Google. Thanks for joining us today. Your host here, actually recorded in person today, are myself, Tim Peacock, the Senior Product Manager for Threat Detection here at Google Cloud, and sitting next to me, unusually, Anton Juvakin, a reformed analyst and senior staff in Google Cloud's Office of the CISO. You can find and subscribe to this podcast wherever you get your podcasts, as well as at our website, cloud .google .com slash podcast. If you enjoy our content and want it delivered to you piping hot every Monday, please do hit the subscribe button in your podcasting app of choice. You can follow the show and argue with us and the rest of the Cloud Security Podcast listeners on LinkedIn. Anton, this is a fun episode because we have a former manager of mine, the head of Chronicle, a great guy from New Jersey, and worst of all, a Mets fan, join us for a really interesting conversation about Sim and Chronicle and EDR somehow. What did you think? I thought this was great. It felt like we did briefly hover over a precipice of discussing XDR. We did. In fact, we started there. We leapt off into space to start the episode. Yes. So I think I felt like we had this moment when the whole conversation could have fallen into the chasm of, oh, no, XDR, no, no, no, not again. But ended up, we ended up in a very useful place. Moreover, I would say that Chris, oh, I did say the guest name, but again, that's fine. Yes. That's good. I extracted some of the useful lessons that led him to the XDR discussion. So it's kind of interesting that XDR was mentioned in a very positive context. Yes. I think the other maybe most interesting tidbit in this episode listeners to listen for is the conversation around process versus tooling and where Chris sees the role of vendors in that equation. And so maybe with that teaser on what I thought was a shockingly interesting insight from Chris, let's turn things over to today's guest. Today we're joined by Chris Cord, senior director here at Google Cloud. Chris, it's been a wild time for you and me working at Google together. I'm delighted to finally have you on the show after countless jibes about the show. It's fantastic. It's hard first to believe that you're here, but harder still to believe we haven't done a proper Chronicle episode yet. So here we are to do a Chronicle episode. I want to start off with an easy question. Chronicle's not XDR, right? So what is it? Right. Yeah. The great XDR debate. I mean, we started this when I first started and Anton has definitely been a good foe in the debate. You did say good, right? You did say good, right? But listen, he said foe, not foiled. There's degrees here. Exactly. Anton has never been on the same side that I've been on. Yeah. I mean, look, I've always stated that XDR to me is a use case. I don't believe that XDR is some magical category where it's going to redefine the way we're doing security operations or anything to that degree. But I do think it's reflective of people's desire to want to have their SIM platforms do more than just log collection. Sure. Right? So in my point of view, the industry evolved to be just a log collection platform. Everything else was do it yourself. You had to build all of these dashboards and your own rules on top of it. And I think the gravity that people have at least started with XDR, and it seems to have teared off now, kind of began with this notion of, can you just give me more value in this thing I'm spending so much money on? It should provide me with more actual security value, outcome -oriented value. Is that what Chronicle is then? That's what Chronicle does. Our primarily strategy is about delivering quality outcomes through detection and response, built into a scalable data platform. And I think to me XDR is a use case that Chronicle can deliver, but ultimately we're fighting against the SIM vendors on a regular basis. So it's a SIM that delivers security outcomes that produce value because it's smarter than the other SIMs. Absolutely. Okay. Easy. So that was an easy question, right? Yeah. And so I guess the second one is kind of in the same ballpark, rightly. Roughly Tim occasionally makes fun of me for only using faint praise, like, yeah, I guess it's pretty good. That's actually an okay idea. That's one of his favorite things to say. That's actually an okay idea. Yes. I've said this several times on air. But ultimately I loved Chronicle so much that I left the safety of Gartner and joined it in 2019, right? So in that sense, and I think I've posted a very like excited awesome plus blog about like, oh my God, my dream has come true. I'm at Chronicle. So, so this was 2019, this is 2023. So since you joined the team, what is your, oh my God, it's such a happy place. It's the proudest thing I've done. Like what are you the most proud of shipping? Yeah. I mean like putting aside the love fist, you're okay with it. I was going to say, aside from shipping me out of his org chart, what are you most proud of shipping me? Right. Right. But putting aside like the acquisition stuff, which we'll touch on, you know, maybe later in this conversation, I think from a pure Chronicle feature perspective, you know, I joined the team in 2021, like mid 2021. And, you know, I had this firm vision, like I talked about just now of like Sims needed to do more than just simple blog collection and aggregation and dashboarding. And so we shipped a curated detection feature in early 2022, I think Q2 2022, which basically provided out of the box detections out of the box analytics and things that were curated and managed by our own Google cloud threat Intel team. And like, I, to me, that was a seminal moment for the product. Like it moved it from really being this like data platform that was just doing log collection and doing it well because we were very scalable, but really kind of started to deliver on this vision of having an outcome oriented tool. And we've been able to build on it ever since like, and so I was super proud that we were able to get that out the door when we did. I think that was a great launch and I really liked the degree to which it made you more opinionated about the data you were ingesting. But to add to this, funny enough, and this was like a case where I think we've pretty virtually argued a little bit because when we started doing curated detections, at least on the market inside, the perception was, wait a second, everything had canned detections and every SIM going back to 1998 would say, here, customer, here's a rule, bye. They're not really curated. They're kind of canned rules and customers developed a bit of a disdainful attitude about canned rules. Do they work? Do they not work? But curated detections in our case, we stand behind them. We give them to a customer and we almost, I think of them in my mind and that's when I flipped the switch towards loving them is that they're sort of guaranteed. They're sort of like, we say, do these work? If they don't work slightly, here's how to make them work. So unlike other teams having canned detections that are kind of more like samples or like, here, you tried, but the results outcomes are in your hands. In our case, we shipped something that we stand behind. Curated means they're going to work. You hit the nail on the head. That's the magic. That is legit magic. Most other SIMs, they're delivering a set of safe searches basically that they're giving you as templates and then you have to operate over those templates and they're not actually managing the effectiveness of those detections over the course of their lifecycle. That's the big difference for us is the fact that these things are managed from an effectiveness perspective. Again, the analogy I always like to use is how the EDR market evolved and how it went from being this forensic platform where you had to do a bunch of stuff yourself and then you had to maybe grab a bunch of saved queries from the vendor to being in this place that had a lot of out -of -the -box value, like detection value, and they actually kept tuning that over time with additional cloud oversight and managed defense oversight and IR engagements and that just made those detections that much better. That's the kind of experience that we have in Chronicle, which is, I agree with you, very game -changing over traditional SIMs. What I love about that story there is, listeners, I was a political science major and the story of how it became a PM we'll talk about on the AMA episode, but what I love about that is it presents an asymmetry where Chronicle gets better at detecting bad guys across its whole pool of users and then every user benefits from that. It's unlike a traditional SIM because you keep learning and getting better. I want to shift gears and speaking about catching bad guys, you were part of Google's second largest acquisition in history. How does it feel, first of all, to be number two to an acquisition that I would bet, one pure bonus most listeners couldn't name, and then now that we're a year into it, what's been a happy surprise about all of it and what are you looking forward to still with it? What is the biggest one? There's Motorola. Oh, yeah. It was when we purchased Motorola. Got it. That was actually more than twice the size of what you purchased. I think Mandarin is the happiest story, though. It's already very clear. It's very clear at this point. I don't think there's anything wrong with the Motorola acquisition. I just think it might have been forgotten in the sands of time. Well, that's a good tidbit. I didn't even think of that one. Because you're 5X bigger than YouTube by purchase size. Exactly. Yeah, and for 5X more important, clearly. I think, to me, it shows a lot of commitment in the space. As a security practitioner joining Google, when I did, there was obviously a lot of momentum and a lot of desire to get more serious about security, but it was still a very nascent business in 2021 when I joined and, in some ways, still very nascent business now in terms of its profile in the industry. But the desire for our organization to get serious about it was real. I felt it at the time that I joined, and I think the opportunity when Mandarin came along as an acquisition opportunity, that the fact that we were able to jump on it and we had so much support going up through the leadership chain was pretty shocking to me. So I think it was a great signal that we're serious about security and that we'll continue to be serious about security and that we're willing to invest in it pretty aggressively. We also got some decent products with it as well. Apart from, obviously, the world -class IR services, we got some decent products. My personal opinion is the reputational bump that we got immediately out of the gate has been game -changing. There's been so many different opportunities that we're in now with Chronicle, maybe not even with Mandiant standalone products, but with Chronicle. But we're in those opportunities specifically because of the Mandiant acquisition. Because number one, people say, oh, Google's serious about this. Number two, they have a higher degree of trust that all those detection capabilities that we just talked about are going to be way higher fidelity because now you're pulling in all of that advanced Intel and IR engagements that Mandiant is doing, and you're feeding those into the product to create value. And then they just have great relationships with CISOs. And so I think when you combine all of those things, it's created a huge amount of momentum for us in the business. And I think the products themselves, while we're in the process of integrating a lot of those in different parts of the portfolio, they do give us a lot of interesting functionality that we wouldn't have had otherwise. In fact, even merging ASM into the SOC, into the detection response function, to me is kind of interesting because it makes SOC look kind of to the left from the incident. To me, this is kind of, I mean, from all the Mandiant products, I felt like ASM, bringing ASM into the SOC vision is kind of a strong argument that we are unique. I mean, we're not like pretty unique. We aren't that unique by doing it. I agree. I agree. I think like, you know, we're referring to that as the addition of contexts, right? And so the more context you can bring into a log event, the better off you are. And making decisions and being proactive in terms of how you determine risk and not only ASM, but also security validation with Mandiant helps bring in and introduce that context, which I agree is a very unique point of view. So to sort of briefly go on a short tangent here, of course you are a senior product leader, but some people would say that security operations success at a company connects to how mature their processes are and of course what products they use. So what's your take on kind of the balance of tools versus practices at the company if I'm building a DNR team or SOC. Or refactoring. Or refactoring one. That's right. Right. Right. That's a good point. How should I think about buying the absolute best products, but keeping the mature practices or boosting the practices, but maybe keeping the products? Like what's the best route here? Don't say both. Both is the right answer though. Well, don't tell him what the right answer is. Chris, what's your answer? You're right. I might be a little biased, but I think that the emphasis on people needing to solve problems themselves through practices is a manifestation of our inability of delivering the right level of value in SIEM in particular or security operations. Hang on. Say that again. Say what you just said. The overemphasis that we're placing on like, hey, improve your overall security processes, include your manual kind of playbooks for how you handle certain types of events or incidents. All those types of things that we overemphasize is only there because SIEM products have not delivered on the type of value that they should be creating. So they are covering holes in broken products by trying to polish practice. This is actually - It's a good answer. Kind of profound. It's better than your answer. It's not profound. It's actually kind of profound. See, that's the Slavic phrase right there. That's what we were talking about. But that's a great answer and way better than I thought. I like that a lot. And so my point of view is like, look, our promise as vendors needs to be to make the products better so that people are better at doing their job. And again, I think, not to keep using this analogy, but Endpoint did that super well. I don't think anyone would have said like, hey, once you had just data collection and Endpoint, job done because everything else is process oriented. But instead, the ball had to keep moving forward in terms of making sure that we're stopping bad guys consistently, making sure that we're doing that with higher degrees of fidelity and expertise and capability and accuracy and all those types of things kept moving that market forward. And to me, we're on the early stages of SIEM doing the same thing. So SIEM is going to go through the same transformation and reputation that we had of AV, dirty disgusting product to EDR, cool useful product. We'll have that for SIEM. I think even beyond just AB to EDR, but AB to EDR to like what I would refer to as the Endpoint protection suite or platform. Like that iteration is the way SIEM is moving, right? So I think it's going from this kind of like checkbox compliance thing to, okay, collecting a bunch of forensic data. And then now I think hopefully to this outcome oriented security focused platform. So to me that the logic is that you would want, it's not like you want to make SIEM look like AV, but you want to focus on kind of like outcomes that you get right after you deploy the product. Not deploy the product and then start your journey that takes you through 14 months of hard work to a value, but you want something that you deploy the product and you see the outcomes soon without doing any hard labor. That's the short version of that. You should be able to get value immediately. Like as soon as I start ingesting event data, especially event data from high fidelity sources, immediately I should start getting some understanding. Is there anything indicative of an active breach? Is there any behavior that's going on that I should be aware of or alerted of that might be, you know, attacker driven behavior like these kind of things should be out of the box value. And it shouldn't require hiring a team of ex NSA guys to make it work. Absolutely. It should be easy process, not crazy process. Because if it does require a team of people from the NSA, then like zero chance that most organizations are going to be able to do it. Right. The fortune five will win and everybody else will suffer. That's not a good outcome for anyone. But for a lot of SIEM products, they're still stuck in the old mentality where they give you the tool and they give you some sample content and ultimately people and then give you some good luck, you know, charms to succeed. And even large, highly visible SIEM competitors are doing that. So in essence, we are doing something different, but many of the customers seem to be stuck in the, Oh, SIEM, yeah, I got to write my own rules because canned rules are probably bad. There's a lot of work. I can't handle it. How are we changing the minds? Like if somebody is trained on certain logs or changing that wants to be a SIEM or some other products, how are we changing their minds? How are we making them actually, if you get Chronicle, you're going to get results and you wouldn't have to suffer for 12 months or for 14 months to get the results. So what is the secret to change in their minds, if it makes sense? It's probably a little too philosophical, but I think it's a good question. I wanted to ask you slightly differently, which is how do you convince people they don't need to port over and invest in porting over 18 years worth of rules written in another language? To be honest, like this is the hardest part. Like if you're going to look at tactically when we are in the middle of trying to switch out incumbent vendors, the hardest part is convincing them that maybe a one for one, like for like type comparison is not necessarily what they should be doing. And then after even we've convinced them to switch, trying not to just simply port over all the old stuff. You know, I used to work in a virtual firewall business and like there was a joke where like no one ever wanted to touch a firewall rule that was in there because it's like a game of Jenga and no one ever wanted to pull anything out because you're concerned that whole thing is going to topple over. That's kind of the way people feel like they're sim rules. They may have a thousand of them, 2000 of them. They have no idea if they're valuable, but they refuse to want to touch them because if they try to cut them down at all, they're concerned they'll miss something. And so it is extremely hard to get them to just say, let's use this opportunity to slim down the rule set. The whole vendor is trying to do analytics of that, funny enough. Like there's a whole little segment of a market when people deploy tech to kind of like go through sim rules and see if they're good, which is amazing, right? People will pay money for it to actually have the tool do that. Sounds like somebody's buying a dowsing rod to me. That doesn't sound easy. No, it's based on real quote unquote machine learning. Okay. Okay. So back to dowsing rods. This is one area where I actually think Mandiant helps a lot, right? So Mandiant has a product called security validation that can be run like in a managed version or can be run in a product driven version. But that product does help people go through breach and attack simulations with real world examples of like, look, these are 10 or 12 different attack vectors. These are different types of threat actors. These are campaigns and you can run those simulations against your environment. You can see in my tools catching them are my sim tools like alerting on me or detecting these kind of events. And so we're, the plan right now is for us to use a lot of that breach and attack simulation to showcase, okay, if you care about these parts of the MITRE ATT &CK matrix, then we'll be able to validate that the rules that we have in place with Chronicle are able to catch them. That's really cool. So that product effectively turns somebody's organization in its current state into a bit of a cyber test range for their own stuff. That's a fancy way of saying it, but like that was the old VeriDIN stack that Mandiant acquired. So I remember it from the Gartner days and it's kind of impressive in terms of what they would simulate and how deep they would integrate to the detection stack. So it's genuinely cool and it genuinely delivers that type of insight about are your detections any good or are you only pretending you're collecting and then pretending you're detecting. And then we want to keep using that over time. This goes into the context thing, like not only you want to do that at a point in time, but if we can continuously validate and then let's say we see that, okay, this portion of your environment is susceptible to ransomware or some other attack vector, we can adjust the alerting risk score associated with those events or we can highlight certain areas because the events should matter more because we know that you're susceptible to an attack. So that's kind of the context part, which Peter pointed out before, I think are things that only we're doing really versus any other event. That's really interesting. I want to switch gears one more time before we get to our traditional closing questions. We have a lot of people listening to the show who are interested in careers in security, interested in careers in security PM. You've been doing PM for security products for a long time, not to call you old. You've been called worse things by fancier people than me lately. What advice do you have for people who are thinking about security PM as a path? Well, yeah, I mean, I think security is one of those tough areas to break in from a product perspective, mostly because the domain knowledge is not super relevant to a lot of folks, meaning that it's, you know, you can put yourself in the shoes of a, of a user of a product that's very open and visible in many cases. I can imagine using the Uber app, like if you want to be, you know, a PM in maps or a PM in Gmail, it's like in that context, you're at least a user on a regular basis and it's much easier for to put your mind into it. I think security is harder, right? Because it's even a step removed from traditional it. And most people don't have that necessarily that depth of knowledge to be able to be a domain expert. Personally, I think a lot of people can get a ton of value at being tier one analysts right out of the gate. Right. And so there are so many organizations that I know that are looking for younger talent, people coming into organizations to act as tier one analysts and the amount of information that you can gather about the domain and about the problem is huge. You know, for people that are still in school, like there's a number of schools that are now focused on cybersecurity programs in school, like Carnegie Mellon has been kind of the forefront of having a cyber shop or a cyber program in school. Then absent of that, like sometimes people can just basically switch domains and just spend the time and focus and energy on learning some of the individuality of security, but just bring really good PM discipline to the, to the equation. Like I think one thing that security in general hasn't done well is we haven't been really good at actually building products with simplicity, right? And so like, under statement of the episode, other disciplines are good at that. And so if you can bring that kind of discipline into security, even as a relative novice in the domain, you might actually be better off. We might bring some beginners versus someone who's done it for years. Usually at the very end of the episode, we ask two questions. Any give the audience one tip in this case on improving security operations would assume and give us some recommended reading. And of course it's fine to say Chronicle website or whatever else. And it's not okay to say Anton's blog. And please don't say, but don't say anything about New York Mets because that's too depressing right now. Yeah. That's way too depressing. Yeah. I recommended reading. I mean like, you know, I think there's a number of SIM books out there, right? Like if you really wanted to go deeper into how SIMs operate, like I think there's one called the infosec playbook, right? Which kind of walks you through how you operate and manage a SIM or our SOC, sorry. And kind of build a security operations playbook. Yeah. There's a number of really good books about malware in general. Like I think I forget the root kid book, but it's like the root kid Bible or something like that that I read early on in my career, which is another good one. Listeners just so you know, nothing from Chris's early career is still technologically relevant. Exactly. Yeah. So that might be that. That might be that. Yeah. I think like any type of those kind of protect practitioner level books that you can read about, like how people operate in the SOC would be great starting points. And then one tip to improve security operations outcomes, maybe. In general, like as a user? Yeah. As somebody operationally responsible. Or as a director. Or as a CISO. Whatever. Yeah. I mean, whatever you're feeling. I think in most cases, people don't put enough emphasis on trying to build proactive controls in the right spots. And so like, this is an area where laziness is somewhat taken over to a certain degree. And we know that there's good best practices out there around zero trust around, you know, locking down policies and procedures more so than what we have done. And we've just been too lazy to deliver that. And so we default into a, you know, operational detection and response mode versus trying to be more proactive in terms of how we control things. And so I would say that lean in a little bit more into having the right protective controls in place from the ground up. Well, Chris, I think that's a surprisingly left -leaning answer for somebody who builds a SIM product. I really like that it was not a self -serving answer. So Chris, thank you so much for joining us today. It's my pleasure. Thank you both. And now we are at time. Thank you very much for listening, and of course for subscribing. Evangelism on SermonAudio
A highlight from The Light of the World
"Next year, the Summer Olympic Games will be held in Paris, but before they begin, there is a race or maybe just a relay where the Olympic torch is lit and carried all throughout France, going from city to city until it ends up in Paris, where it lights the big Olympic cauldron at the opening ceremony. Maybe some of you have seen this on TV in the past, but it's a several month event. As this begins, it actually starts in Olympia, Greece, and then will end where the Olympics begin. Well, the passage we will look at tonight tells us that we as Christians are a lot like those runners carrying the torch, but the torch we carry is the light of the gospel and the land that we are to run in is the entire world. And the event that we are ushering in is not the Olympics, but it's the second and final coming of our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ. So with this in mind, please turn with me to Matthew chapter 5, specifically verses 14 through 16. Matthew 5 verses 14 through 16, where Jesus says, you are the light of the world, a city set on a hill cannot be hidden, nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket but on a stand and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others so that they may see your good works and give glory to your father who is in heaven. Well, I want us to take a deeper look at this passage by examining it under three points. First our calling explained in the first part of verse 14. Secondly our calling illustrated in the second part of verse 14 through verse 15. And then thirdly, our calling applied verse 16. Then I'd like to make four uses of this passage, but let's pray together one more time and then we will begin. Heavenly Father, we thank you for the light of Jesus Christ. We thank you for the light of your word. We thank you for the light of your grace. We pray that all of these things would shine upon us now. Give us understanding in the word of God, enlighten our hearts and our minds to what Jesus says to us here in this passage. We ask in Jesus name, Amen. Well, first, our calling explained in the first part of verse 14. Jesus has just told the disciples that they are the salt of the earth. Now he switches to another metaphor, which describes the identity and calling of his disciples in another way when he says you are the light of the world. Now, what does Jesus mean by this description? Well, first, let's consider the light. Light in the Bible is almost always associated with God. He's the creator and dispenser of physical light. Just think about Genesis Chapter one there, we read about how God speaks light into existence and then he makes the sun and the moon and the stars to give light on the earth. But God is also the creator and dispenser of spiritual light. Throughout the Bible, the term light takes on a figurative meaning and it refers to the blessings that God bestows on mankind. So he is the spiritual light source that shines down his blessings of mercy and grace and truth and salvation and life and glory on us. Now, this is especially true of Jesus Christ. Some of his titles include the light of the world, a light for the nations, the bright morning star, the lamp of the New Jerusalem, the day spring from on high and the sun of righteousness. And for those of us who are Christians, the Lord Jesus Christ has shown in our hearts the light of the gospel. Christ has taught us the way of salvation. He has poured out on us his saving grace. He has given us eternal life. He has opened our eyes to see his glory. He has shined spiritual light upon us. So Christ has put his light within us, in our hearts, in our souls, in our church, and now we're considered light in the Lord, not light in and of ourselves, but we're light in the Lord. We're not the spiritual light source, but we are reflectors of that light. We're mediators of that light. We are those who are to shine forth the light and blessings of Jesus Christ to the whole world. So that's the light. But let's also considered the part of the phrase of the world. World here, I think, means Earth, like the previous description. We are the salt of the Earth, not referring to the physical ground, but referring to the peoples and the communities and the societies of the world. But implied in this description of us is, I think, the natural condition and state of the world. If we are called the light of the world. Or the light that shines on the world. What does this mean about the world? What means that the world needs light? If we're the light of the world, the world needs our light. It means that by nature, the world is shrouded in darkness. But not physical darkness, moral and spiritual darkness. Natural man is in the dark. He is completely lost. He is ignorant of the way of salvation. He is enslaved to his sins. He is living in the shadow of death. He is ruled over by the devil and he is under the curse and wrath of God. But this is where we come in as the church, we are the light of the world, and for lights to be useful, they have to shine. They have to emit light, and it is our calling and our duty as little lights to shine forth the big light of Christ on this spiritually dark world. Now, this is the very point that Jesus makes in the next part of this passage. So let's now look at our calling illustrated. Jesus illustrates what it looks like for us to be the light of the world, and he does so in the second half of verse 14 and in verse 15. And there he tells us that we are like a shining city set upon a hill. And secondly, we are like a bright light set on a stand within a house. So let's look at those two illustrations separately. First, we're considered a shining city in the second part of verse 14. Some have likened America to the shining city upon a hill. It wasn't just Ronald Reagan who said that. There's others who have said that in the past. But this is not what Jesus says here. He doesn't say America is the shining city set upon the hill. He says that his disciples or his church or his spiritual nation is like a city set on a hill, and for good or for ill, this city cannot be hidden from people's eyes. We're city set on a hill, and I think this is one place where the eschatological promises of the Old Testament find their fulfillment in the New Testament. What do I mean by that? Well, throughout the prophets, it was prophesied, especially in Isaiah and Micah, that Zion, the city of the living God, would one day be set on the highest mountain for all the nations to see and flock to. Read about in Isaiah two and Micah chapter four. And there the nations would learn the ways of God and they would walk in the light of the Lord. Well, I think Jesus here is telling us that the church is the fulfillment of all of those prophecies, that the church is Zion, the city of the living God. The church is set on the highest of hills and the greatest of mountains. The church has the place of prominence and preeminence in this world. And that's God's doing. God has exalted the church to this highest position on earth. But why has he done so? He's done so, so that all the nations and all the kingdoms and all the societies on earth might see our light shine so the nations would flock into the city of God and learn of his ways and walk in his light. So a city like this cannot operate incognito. It will attract the attention of the world. People will either see it and run to it as a place of instruction and refuge and salvation, or they will see it and charge at it and fight against it as an enemy fortress. But either way, the church, as the exalted city of God, is to shed the light of Jesus Christ upon this dark world. So we're like a city set on a hill for all to see. Secondly, we're considered a bright lamp in verse 15. Here, Jesus moves on to another illustration of the church as the light of the world. And he says this, nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand and it gives light to all in the house. Well, this is pretty self -explanatory and nobody lights a light or turns on a light in order to simply cover it up and hide it. Why do we light a light in a house? Why do we turn these lights on in the church building so that it might shed light upon everybody who's in that place? Well, this is the church. We are a lot like the lampstand put in the house of God in the Old Testament. Remember, there is a lampstand that was to be put in the inner sanctuary. One of its purposes was to light up that entire sanctuary so that the priest could do their work in the tabernacle and in the temple. So they were to do the work in the house of God in order for them to do that. That lampstand had to be burning day and night. Well, brethren, we're a lot like that. Except we don't serve in one tiny little house of God. We serve in the cosmic house and temple of God. And as that bright, burning lampstand, we are to shine light upon all of those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death. So that's our calling illustrated. So Jesus has told us here we are the light of the world. He says that looks like a shining city on a hill. It also looks like a bright lamp in a house. But then in verse 16, he makes a very specific application of these truths to his disciples and to us. He exhorts us in these words in the same way, let your light shine before others so that they may see your good works and give glory to your father who is in heaven. Just like the shining city set on a hill and just like the bright lamp set on a stand, we, as the Church of the Lord Jesus, must not hide our light. We must not cover up our light. We must not disguise our light, but we must shine our light on all the peoples of the world. Jesus tells us here what the purpose or the end goal of this shining our light is, he says, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your father who is in heaven. I think here Jesus tells us the kind of light that we are to shed or shine upon the world. It's the light of our good works, or we could say our beautiful works. People are to see our good works and not just some of them, but they're to see all of them, the good work of confessing the lordship of Christ, the good work of obeying the commandments of Christ, the good work of proclaiming the gospel of Christ, the good work of loving other Christians, the good work of cooperating with other churches, the good work of fighting against our sin, the good work of submitting to those over us in the Lord, the good work of taking care of our families, the good work of helping the poor and the needy, the good work of raising our children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord, and the good work of loving and praying for our enemies. The list could go on and on and on about good works, but Jesus does not limit these things or qualify them. He speaks in generalities here about the good work of the church and both proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ and living out that faith, that profession before a watching world. The point is we are to show the world the beauty, the honor, the value, the glory of the Christian life by our words and our actions. And this should have a practical effect upon the world. It's not to lead to our praise and glory. It's not so that people would pat us on the back and congratulate us and tell us what good moral people that we are. Of course, the Pharisees did all of these sort of things. They did their good works before the eyes of men so that people would praise them. But we are to have a totally opposite motive. And Jesus tells us what our motive should be here. It's not for us, but it's for God. God's the one who has ordained our good works. God is the one who works these good works in us. Therefore, God is the one to get all the glory for our good works. As one commentator says, we are to shine our light and do good works, not to win praise from men, but to win men to praise and glorify our heavenly Father. Our desire is not glory. Our desire is for that glory to go to God. And the apostle Peter says something very similar in First Peter two, verse 12. He says, Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation. So that's our calling explained, our calling illustrated, our calling applied. But I want to touch on four things in this passage that call us to do something with this passage before we end. So first, there is a call to worship in this passage. Jesus calls us here the light of the world, but we have not always been the light of the world. Before the Lord saved us, what were we? Well, we were part of the world. We were part of this dark, evil, depraved, wretched, lost, ignorant world. Our minds were darkened, our eyes were blinded, our hearts were dead to God. We were not just in the darkness, but the Bible says that we were darkness. It was us by nature. We were called darkness. But God had mercy on us. God called us out of the darkness into his marvelous light, and now we are called sons of light, children of light, children of the day who belong to the day, saints in the kingdom of light, light in the Lord, and here the light of the world. So, brethren, we should work hard to win people to praise and honor and glorify our God. But first and foremost, we should praise and honor and glorify our God for calling us out of the darkness into his marvelous light. We should glory in our God for shining the great light of the gospel on us and turning our darkness to light. So there is implicitly here a call for us to worship God, to glorify him ourselves for the work that he has done for us and the calling he has placed upon our lives. So there's a call to worship in this passage. But secondly, there is a call to action in this passage. We are called the light of the world. But that means that we are to be light to the world. We are to let our light shine before others. That's what Jesus tells us, and not as some sort of star in a faraway galaxy that has little to no impact upon this earth. But we are to shine like the blazing sun in all of its glory to give sight, to give life, to give warmth to this cold, dead world. Our Lord and Savior has given us a commission to continue the work that he began in his earthly ministry. And that commission is to carry the gospel torch to the nations, to instruct them in a way of salvation and to model for them a new way of life. So think back to the illustrations that Jesus uses to tell us what we should be doing as the light of the world. But what he is telling us is just as it is inconceivable. That a city built on a hill would be hidden from the public, and just as it is inconceivable that a lamp in a house would be covered up to all in that house. So it is inconceivable that the church would be a secret society closed off to the world. So, brethren, let us constantly and continually remind ourselves of our calling in this world. We are not called to be monks who are shut up in a monastery. We are not called to be scholars who are retired to our studies. We are not called to be introverts who withdraw from the public. We are not called to be spies dressed up in a disguise, but we are called to be the light of the world and to let that light shine. So let us then seek to burn as brightly as we can for as long as we can for the glory of our Savior Jesus Christ and for the eternal good of our fellow man. So there's a call to action. We are the light of the world. That means we are to be light to this world. But third, there is a call to be encouraged in this passage. It's easy to think that we as Christians have little to no positive impact upon this world, especially as we see it getting worse and worse and worse. We can really become pessimistic. Really down in the dumps, really discouraged about our role and our calling in this world, but this passage gives us great encouragement to let our light shine, because Jesus says here that by the way we live our lives, we can actually cause others to give glory to God. We can cause others to give glory to God. Our good works can cause opponents of the gospel to give glory to God by shaming them and shutting their mouths and giving them no reasons to speak evil about the Christian faith. God gets glory for that. They can cause the general masses of people to give glory to God by making them fear God and be of all in all of God for his power at work in us. They can cause other brothers and sisters in Christ to give glory to God by causing them to give thanks to God for our labors of love, and they can cause sinners to give glory to God by leading them to confess with their own mouths that Jesus Christ is Lord and to call upon his name for salvation. So the encouragement is, brethren, your good works matter. Your conduct at home and in the office and at the ball field and in the restaurant and at the park and at family get togethers and at church and on the Lord's day. It matters. It can make a difference. By God's grace, you can have a part in changing the world and leading people to hallow God in their hearts and praise him with their lips. Your good works can beautify this ugly world. Your good works can enlighten this dark world. Your good works can preserve this decaying world. Your good works can add value to this vain world. So please never forget this. Always be encouraged by the words of our savior here to let your light shine before others so that they may glorify our father who is in heaven. But lastly, there is a gospel call in this passage. For anyone here this evening who is still living in the darkness of their sin, there is a gospel ray of hope in this passage that you need to run to. The church is the small L light of the world, but the Lord Jesus Christ is the big L light of the world. Christians can't save you, but what we can do is point you to the one who can. So Jesus is the light of the world and dear sinner, Jesus can rescue you from the darkness and he can bring you into his marvelous light. He is the light of the world who can give you eternal life. He is the son of righteousness who can bring you spiritual healing and joy. He is the day spring from on high who can guide your feet into the way of peace. And he is the bright morning star who can usher in an era of grace and salvation in your life that will last forever. So if you are still in the darkness, if you're still of the world, there is hope for you. Come and believe and follow the Lord Jesus Christ. And the Bible says you will never again walk in darkness because the Lord Jesus will give you the light of life. Amen. Let's pray together. Heavenly Father, help us to consider the words that our Savior has spoken to us to be the light of the world. Give us grace to shine forth pure rays full of holiness and love and kindness to this world that is shrouded in darkness. Please help us to fulfill this calling, this great commission to preach the gospel of Christ, to preach light to the nations and help us, O Lord, to reflect the light and glory of Christ in our very lives. Bless us as a church. Help us to be salt and light. May these callings be ever present in our minds and hearts every day of our lives. Give us grace, we pray in Jesus name. Amen.

"Why do tacos get their own day of the week? Is it because Mondays are so rough, we need a Tuesday filled with beefy tortillas shared with good friends? If so, why don't we have Wellington Wednesdays stroganoff Saturdays, and heck, beefball Mondays? Then Mondays would just be another reason to enjoy our favorite beef with our favorite people. Together, we bring more. Beef. It's what's for dinner. Funded by beef farmers and ranchers. Good evening, and welcome to the Crypto Overnighter. I'm Nick Ademus, and I will be your host as we take a look at the latest cryptocurrency news and analysis. So sit back, relax, and let's get started. And remember, none of this is financial advice. And it's 10pm Pacific on Sunday, September 17th, 2023. Welcome back to the Crypto Overnighter, where we have no sponsors, no hidden agendas, and no BS. But we do have the news, so let's talk about that. Tonight we're diving into North Korea's cozy relationship with Russian crypto exchanges. Are they laundering money, or is it something far more sinister? We'll also look at India's ambitious plans to cut the dollar out of its trade equation. What does this mean for the future of fiat, and how might it impact the crypto landscape? Then we'll discuss the Hong Kong Monetary Authority's stern warning to crypto firms misusing the term bank. And don't think we're ignoring the bankruptcy saga of FTX and their reopened claims portal. Last but not least, some big names weigh in on the future of fiat and crypto. Fasten your seatbelts, it's gonna be a ride. Hacking groups linked to North Korea are increasingly using Russian exchanges to launder stolen cryptocurrency. Chainalysis noted this shift in strategy. The blockchain analysis firm also highlighted a recent transfer of $21 .9 million stolen from the Harmony Protocol to a Russian exchange known for illicit transactions. This move coincides with the summit between Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin. UN sanctions monitors are also noting North Korea's evolving cyber tactics aimed at funding its nuclear programs. Elliptic, another analytics firm, reported that North Korea's Lazarus Group is responsible for the theft of almost $240 million in crypto in just 104 days. The group has been linked to five major crypto hacks in the last three months, including a $54 million hack of the global cryptocurrency exchange CoinX. Chainalysis data shows that the value of stolen cryptocurrency associated with North Korean hacking groups exceeds $340 .4 million so far in 2023, compared to $1 .65 billion last year. Despite the decrease, North Korea remains a significant threat in the cybercrime landscape, accounting for 29 .7 % of the cryptocurrency stolen through hacks in 2023. The DPRK -Russia cryptolink is more than just a financial loophole. It's a geopolitical chess move. While the world focuses on sanctions and arms talks, North Korea and Russia are quietly building a financial alliance in the crypto underworld. This isn't just about money. It's about power, influence, and a shared disdain for Western sanctions. Chainalysis and Elliptic aren't just telling us about hacks. They're exposing a growing alliance that could reshape the crypto landscape. Russia's noncompliance with international efforts gives North Korea the perfect cover to continue its operations. It's a symbiotic relationship where both nations benefit at the expense of global financial security. The drop in the value of stolen assets this year could be a smokescreen. North Korea's share of crypto hacks may have decreased, but let's not forget they still account for nearly a third of all stolen crypto this year. In a world increasingly dependent on digital assets, the DPRK -Russia cryptolink is not just a financial concern, it's a security crisis. It's a glaring example of how decentralized finance can be weaponized. As long as Russia turns a blind eye, the crypto world will remain a battlefield where the DPRK can operate with impunity. We've just unraveled the shadowy links between North Korea and Russian crypto exchanges. From one geopolitical chessboard to another, let's pivot to India's audacious move to cut the U .S. dollar from its trade equations. How's that for a change in global power dynamics? In other words, If this trend holds up, the cases will start trending down by late September by mid October, and we could be in a very manageable place where infections will not be a real concern for the public. After that, we just have to treat covid as one of the 200 different diseases. Is that affect people? If you read the newspaper you're fairly educated person and this educated person believes that the jeopardy contestants are now mad at the anti-defamation league for disabuse them of the notion that kelly donahue the jeopardy contestant he was actually flashing the number three wasn't actually flashing white supremacy simple. But they know it they know he was 'cause he's a magazine instead gypsy the left would have us believe that. Only the right descends into conspiracy and the entire media operations of the united states amplify that and lacked the self awareness to appreciate the left. Does it too and here. We have two examples. And now we have. This target in starbucks are joining walmart. Costco trader joe's and publix in allowing the unvaccinated to come into their stores without or. I'm sorry the the vaccinated coming into the stores without a mask and there's a left wing meltdown over this because you know people might lie and so everyone should have to wear a mask because there may be some liars out there. The common thread of all this is that people on the left. Do not trust by the way people in the right or guilty this as well but really the most vocal people in america right now of the issue of trusting their fellow citizens or people on the left do not trust their fellow citizens. They have them by the idea that this is a racist. A systemically racist nation. They look on this country and think things are bad and getting worse. They don't like people of faith they really drip with contempt. And because they're the cultural leaders in opinion setters in journalism right now it's reflected in journalism. There's a woman on twitter. And i you know i try not to nut pick on twitter on nut picking his repick. The one crazy person who says something. It's all everybody on the side. Believes it when you. When you pick a jay rosen. A journalism professor at nyu who's really prominent. And you say this guy really believes rather verge of becoming a fundamental white nationalist christian nation. He's nuts. This must be pretty prominent thinking among the intellectual. It's fair to do that when you pick the fringe burson with five dollars l. They all believe this. That's nut baking. But this person is a doctor. Britney james she's got twenty thousand followers. She's a physician and activist. Looks like she will. She's got npr. And the ellen show and pbs new york times. I guess she's got some dealings with them. She's the associate professor. She's got a prominent following she tweets. This must be my own business. Shopping in a middle aged white woman. Asked me if i worked there. When i looked at her blankly and answered back in a deadpan voice no she giggled it off and said i was wondering where to put this shirt back but if i am a bad but i'm a bad person if i go off kicking myself or not saying i'm a physician and letting her die of embarrassment but something tells me she wouldn't even have the decency to be embarrassed. Most of these types don't this what you call a micro aggression white woman comes up to black woman in a department store s if she works there and the woman says no and is offended that she was confused for.

If you're over the age of twenty one union any of the vaccines over the age of sixteen you can get any of the vaccines. They're readily available in the united states. Right now in every state there is no longer a vaccine shortage. If you want it you can go. Get it and guess. What if you're in your twenties or younger and you get covid. You virtually have not problem whatsoever. You'll be fine. Death is exceedingly exceedingly rare. Even even major symptoms are exceedingly exceedingly rare so why do businesses need to protect the unvaccinated when the unvaccinated can protect themselves. Let's continue with this well. Many people happily shed their mass celebrated the appeared into the pandemic others are concerned that with only thirty seven percent of the country fully vaccinated. This relaxation is premature and could lead to a resurgence of infections. If such a head scratching turn of events had occurred under former president donald trump the administration surely would have been blamed for the lack of coordination resulting widespread confusion. The biden team has exp- excelled on many aspects of the govind response. But this was a major blunder that threatens to sit back much of the progress made president biden needs to fix it urgently. Most important biden should own that it was a mistake to see this level of responsibility to the cdc. After watching trump repeatedly sidelined the agency seemingly for political reasons the biden administration understandably has wanted to elevate the cd's role but there's a big difference between listening to scientists and seating policy-making to one side of the organization trump supporters might complain about a double standard but intervening in. This case. wouldn't be about politics. It would be for the public. Good hello is it for the public. Good that we get back to our lives the e for those who are listening to health care experts alone. "Does that it tells people to leave your area where about the bomb it hamas fires thousands of rockets hoping to kill as many jews as possible in the washington post. They're actually running a story. Israel's iron dome defense system protects israeli lives. It also perpetuates the israel gaza conflict. This is the actual subtitle. The system is save lives on both sides of the border but leaves little incentive re political solution in other words. The washington post is giving airtime to the idea. If only more jews died maybe they would want to seek peace with a terrorist organization. That walsall dead. The american mainstream media in bed with terrorists actually renting their office space from a terrorist organization thereby helping fund the terrorists. They picked a side. And it's not the side. Anyone should be on. i guess. Donald trump was right. Some of them actually are enemies of the people that are certainly enemies of the israelis for sure. Hello and welcome it. Is eric your accent here. The ericsson show the full number is eight. Seven seven nine seven eric. Eight seven seven nine seven three seven four to five remarkably. Msnbc now has onto hosts who are getting praised for having all the bunch of palestinians and very few israelis essentially. You're getting More more from Msnbc propaganda but this washington post now to be fair. This is an analysis piece. The washington post actually has an analysis piece that israel's iron dome situation makes the situation worse. Because it keeps so many people alive hamas the islamist movement that rules gaza and other militias has fired more than seventeen hundred rockets into israel since monday in response to the threat of fiction a palestinian residents. Israel's responded with a massive air campaign when president obama grant hundred twenty five million dollars israel in twenty fourteen helped fund the iron dome. The white house press secretary said the. Us is proud that the iron dome has saved countless israeli lives but the unintended consequences of this protective system complicate the story by reducing the expected costs of bombing. Gaza iron dome allows israel to act with less concern for civilian casualties and gives israel less incentive to find a political solution to its conflict with gaza casualty sensitivity which melted in israel after the invasion of lebanon in the early nineteen eighties was among the driving forces behind their withdrawal from gaza in two thousand five. This syndrome lead israel to shift risk from israeli troops on the gaza civilians. You got that. This is a politely worded. Op ed analysis piece in the washington post. That is making the argument. The iron dome is bad because it allows jews to survive terrorist attacks. This is what amounts to actual analysis in the washington post. If only more jews died maybe israel wouldn't be so willing to fight back against the terrorists unreal but not unexpected to the phones..

They changed the name to israel in the arab refused to go along with it. I explained to my child the history of this and she commented that She's had the unfollowed number of people who she's realized just pushing propaganda not telling the truth of the situation. I explained to her that the media is deeply sympathetic to the palestinians in large part because so many members of the media have internalized left wing dogma about colonizers and the view the israelis white people colonizers and so the israelis are always the bad people. Nbc news sent out this. At least one hundred eighty eight palestinians including fifty five children have been killed in over the past week. According to figures from its health ministry in israel. Ten people have been killed. Did you know that the health ministry in gaza is run by hamas which also sent out a picture of one of the victims of israel and the israelis were quickly able to document. It's a five year old picture of a little girl who's not even in the area. They're running a propaganda campaign and the media is on the side of terrorists. Is it any wonder nobody believes them. I mean honest to goodness people we got an actual terrorist group trying to wipe out a nation and the media is on their side. The media has picked the bad guy in the bad guy are the israelis because they've internalized Anti-western left wing cinnamon about israel. This is absurd and yet this is where we are. This is why you can't believe our major institutions. Is it any wonder so. Many people are willing to believe conspiracy theories these days. I cited it now for a different reason. Such an event university like al qods headed at the time bhai well-known moderate professor and with ties to sister institutions in america indicates. Something about the wind's not blowing in palestinian society and across the world the rally is interesting for visual connections. It makes between radical islam here and elsewhere in the region. A picture like this could help explain. Why many perfectly rational israelis fear withdrawing their military from east jerusalem in the west bank. The image from the demonstrations were as photo editors like to say strong. The event took place a short drive from the homes and offices of hundreds of international journalists based in jerusalem journalists. Were aware of it. The sizable jerusalem bureau of the for example. Which can produce several stories on an average day was in possession of photos. Jerusalem editors decided the image in the rally were not news worthy and the demonstration was only mentioned by the ap weeks later. I mentioned these instances to demonstrate the kinds of decisions being made regularly in the bureaus of the foreign press covering the situation..
