"The adjustment and whether he would get frustrated if it didn't go well for him because he is getting up there in age right now and he basically said that if he gets in the new car i mean. It doesn't find it enjoyable. He didn't have to race anymore. So we won't i mean there's that that's that's that's a good way to go about. It's like listen. If i don't like it i'm out sees ladies who. He's picked up some trends from furniture. Row right. I mean got my championship. I don't know what to tell you boys. That's kind of the feeling i got from it. It's like my championship. I made my money. I'm going to the hall of fame. F you if. I don't like this i'm out of here. I'm going to get out of here before. You can push me out for thai gibbs like this is the exactly the difference there is when kyle busch says stuff like that you know that he could never bring himself like he's going to be seventy and one is still race he's gonna be you know the the trying to think who like who's race forever and never gives up. He's going to be that guy. You know where martin treks junior. I believe it. I believe like next weekend. If he's not feeling it he'll just hanging up. Walk away as crew. Chief did that His his team did that before him or before them. And so i have no qualms about the fact that marty might do the same damn thing. Let me great. It'd be fantastic. If he did like he just actually stuck to his guns and then they could all just go. Open a hotel in canada together or whatever is am and copan wonderful it was some sort of resort or hotel or hunting or fishing lodge or something like that. That's what they're doing canada. Yeah yeah great way to do that. During covert and. I thought it was a genius. Did he did that right before. The cova thing hit feel bad for him now although again. He wouldn't do that if he needed the money. So yeah taking care of to Say there's that and then your d talked about ross chastain testing the next gen car at dover you know he said that there was less power and less grip and that's a good thing by the way because that's part of the idea of this car is to not have so many aerodynamic effects that are negative and also to have less rely more on mechanical grip as opposed down for us but then have the tires go so leading the less overall grip and that means the drivers are gonna have to wheel the cars more and if it works out i mean. He was kind of saying that philosophy worked out. That was the impression he got. If that's the case. I don't think you have to worry about martin. Trucks junior bailing at some point next year because the cars will likely be more fun to drive. Hell we might even see carl edwards comeback. No my after after senate run. i mean. that's all he ever wanted. Were cars that were impossibly difficult to drive. I think that's part of the reason why he left. And so if they actually accomplish that with this next gen car then who knows. Maybe carl decide to come back. And then one year later nascar will flip out. Change all of their rules again at a ton of downforce back in the car and then carlo quit on the berate. Yeah sounds about right for what nascar is to do you bitch about it. And they'll be like now. Doug sure so. I don't know i. I don't think that any driver is going to be non entertained by the next gen card. Despite the fact that it's moving closer and closer and closer to an actual spec vehicle. I mean it's about as close as you could possibly get. The only real difference is going to be the engines under the hood and a little bit of sheet metal. And we won't see a very big turn like he'll turn towards the car like we did they. C o d. I don't think so. no. I think you're right. We might see big numbers on the car but not not a big turn on it. Still out there exactly man. I want to go back and revisit those car tomorrow days because them scathing people were getting fine people were getting told by nascar. Shut the hell up the kabushiki victory lane one. It and said this worst car ever yup but not in a good way. Worse car. Ever in the because they. They didn't know what to do. They're they're pussyfooting. Around the gas pedal man. Those first couple of races were the most boring thing ever it. It should have. I racing back then. They could test all of it out. I yeah. I don't even think i really went ahead scheme. They would've thought they would've stopped that it was a bad trade and nba. Ninety four one man like the g the computer been like. Nah we can't a wing and a splitter what are you doing instead they tested it on. Nascar heat is what they did. I don't know the new one. That was their simulator for the car. Tomorrow was nascar heat. Two thousand six or two thousand four. What is terrible terrible game man. All right so. Let's look at this weekend. We're heading to hotlanta bonsor news going into this race georgia peanut during the thirty eight car with anthony. Alfredo that's nice seed token seed token which i thought was like Like turf store like a like a farm store. Then i thought no no seed token. Maybe it's some sort of like bitcoin thing no it turns out. It's kind of like crowd funding for businesses..

"Glad to have you with us, Uh, All right. Kyle Busch last week at Texas in the Xfinity series, and not one of his easier wins in the Xfinity series by any stretch of imagination had quite a battle with Justin Allgaier read. Win number 10 at Texas, which is incredible. And win number 99 in the Xfinity series and at one time Kyle said. When he got to 100 he would quit. And I had a chance to ask him after the race. I said, all right, he's sticking by that, and he goes well. There's one problem with that. Joe is committed with Joe. Joe Gibbs is committed for me to drive next during the Xfinity series, so He could be getting to 105 before you know it. Well, absolutely. I mean he's got. He's got Nashville this week this coming week and then he's got a five next year that he can possibly run and it's a sponsorship thing. Obviously, I never thought Kyle would stop at 100, because, um, he wants to extend his own record. He as much as anyone in the The business is aware of his own numbers. And so you know, I never expected him to stop. I think he'll go on until he gets 250. Maybe 300 combined wins. I mean, it really is amazing. Holly when you think about it, you know, understanding. Yes, he's He's a guy that comes down and, yes, he's a cup driver, the racing next immunity series. But like I said, this was not an easy win for him last week at Texas, this is a battle for him to win to beat Justin Auger tough race for him. But some of these other cup drivers are going down in racing and They're not winning every single time they go out there, You know, just another underscore for how great driver Kyle Busch is, and his legacy is going to be just amazing. I completely agree with you, especially on the fact that there are other cup drivers that compete in that, and I can think for the whole 30 years that I've been covering the sport. There have always been cup drivers that compete in the Xfinity series or whatever. It was called at that time, and you know what feed him. Beat him. Don't, uh, don't complain about him racing feed him and I'll tell you it's it's. It's a chance for this generation to watch history being made because I agree with both of you. I think he's going to win 250 or more races Total combined in his career, and everyone's getting a chance to watch his work right now. I mean, the numbers are just astounding when you think he's more than double over what Mark Martin won the Xfinity series, and that was the previous high winner. I mean, these are numbers that nobody's going to approach that's absolutely right. And, of course, every time he wins, either in a truck or an Xfinity car extends his own record. So Um, you know, he's I think right now, um Number two on the active Cup driver list as well. So I think only Harvick said head I'm even Harvick. I think I think there are they Are they back too tired now? I think with Kyle winning wants to shooting one retired again. Yeah, So So you know, he's leading just about everything and I mean, it's going to be an amazing record. I mean, people, some people, you know, poop to the fact that you know that they're talking about 200 wins and it's Of course, it's not comparable to Richard Petty's 200 Cup wins, but it's still a remarkable achievement what he's been able to do in his career. And he needs to be lauded for it. Um You know, I He's one of the one of the best drivers I've ever seen. And if you notice with the exception of Thai Gibbs in that same 54 car, none of the other gives drivers are winning races this year. Well, and that's the thing and, you know, read talked about. How much Kyle understands and knows what these numbers are. The thing is Holly. He's not He's not egotistical about it. He appreciates the history of this sport, and he much like Jimmy Johnson when he when he got the seven championships, and you know he got these helmets, you know when he you know the Cale Yarborough painted helmet as he was reaching these numbers. He appreciates the history of the sport and Kyle Busch. Respects the guys that he's reaching and passing. And I mean, it's it's he, you know, he's not a guy just rolling through numbers. He understands it and appreciates it. Absolutely. He's very respectful of the whole situation. And, you know, I think to a certain level, you could argue that he has challenges as well. I can't imagine that it's easy to just randomly drop in a series and win the race. You know, I mean, so there's challenges that he faces two and And life read. You just noted with the trucks and and what with the car, Certainly in the spent a series. I'm sorry. You know the other kids. Drivers aren't exactly lighten things up. So I think that what Kyle is doing is absolutely something that should be lauded and frankly amazed at because it's not easy to do that, And you know what? There's a lot of pressure on him every time he jumps in, but I mean, he's not racing week to week. He's not doing this on a steady basis in the other series and so just to pop in at a race track, and when I give him a lot of credit for it, and I think that people should be more appreciative of it. Instead of looking at it the other way. He's going to be a lot like Jimmy Johnson. I think Read, you know, we we spent years sitting here on this show talking about You know Jimmy Johnson retires..

"I've got one that. I'll sneaking from the nhra race of from the spring. Nationals down in texas. And that is steve torrance I know that you know obviously capco boys there from texas you know. That's a hometown event for them. I don't believe it is one that they had actually one before so it's always special to get a home state victory. You know whether whether it's right on top of where you grew up or whether it's on the other end of the state it doesn't really matter you know it's still a home win for you. And steve o's third win of the year in top fuel across any of the major nhra aid divisions has more than two right now. so he's broken that tie. Obviously that's a big deal and their next race they're going to be up here in new england dragway so i'm looking forward to get to that and see if he makes it number four but for right now he's gonna be my number four. Well chris you are going to have to wait for my number four. Got no problem with stevo. But we're going to get to that when we return after this break right here. Welcome back to the general tire down and dirty radio show powered by polaris razor Jim beaver chris leoni here. We are just getting rolling with our power rankings. A chris ed connor daily at five. I had the indy five hundred five. Chris had steve torrents at five four. Excuse me and me. Well i roll. Was steve torrens at number four. As well chris. I know he got off to a little bit of a slow start. But i got to tell you them. Capco boys came out swinging. He's got Fresh baby they're gotta give a big shout out to him and natalie. I was fortunate enough to stay at their house in texas in march. I had a great time kind of seeing how they do things. And what am i. Favor people You know in motorsports. But yes steve torrance. He is definitely Rebounded in a big way. Three wins points leader You know this guy. We talked in the past about lewis. Hamilton chris and watching greatness as it happens and you never appreciate greatness as it happens until after the fact You know and i think lewis hamilton like i. It's still hard for me to say. He's the greatest formula one driver of all time. He's the greatest formula one driver of all time. I don't think anybody can argue that right point. But i'm looking at steve torn up. Give him goats status but i will say what he is putting together and this starts with a championship. He lost britney force that he arguably one man what he has done. I mean you look at the all time win list. And i don't have the number off top my head because he's one sedan much. It changes to quick. We are looking at one of the greatest. Nhra drivers of all time. And he's young. That's what scares me if he sticks around for another fifteen years. I have no idea what races he's gonna break but he could go down as the greatest of all time and like. I said you know you hate to talk about missing greatness happens but if you're motor sports fan watch what steve torrance's doing in the nhra. It's going to be a very long time before you see somebody. This dominant again. No doubt jim. I mean first of all i love how we go to the break and i just said stevo and we tease coming out of the break. And we're still on steve. You know my the thing is you're right. It's it's hard to say goat. It's especially hard to say. Go because john force is still going at meetings still winning. And he's still winning. Just one of four white nationalist. You know earlier in the month so it's really hard to argue goat but top fuel go. Steve o's absolutely in the conversation. At this point these have been some of the most and the funny thing about it is losing that championship britney forest rate a single. Yes -xactly much. I think they'd have still been dominant. But i don't think the level of you know words. I can't say on the radio. Level dominance that we got from sweeping an entire playoffs. And all that all that stuff. I mean you know. I don't think that happens without losing one. The way that they lost the one that they lost you know because there is no better motivating factor than that i mean. Obviously you're motivated if you're not motivated to win. You're not showing up to the race track especially with them. That's a family led and funded operation. You know. they're not they're not going. After big sponsors the way that everybody else's that is a family team you know but that is. That is the kind of motivation that you cannot buy or sell. That is the kind of motivation that only occurs naturally and win the right person harnesses it watch out and that is what they have done over the past few years yeah. I completely agree with that. Chris is going to be fun to watch the next the next decade. Nhra and steve's definitely made it that way so moving on because i'm already looking and now we got plenty of time left but if we don't get moving along we are going to run out of time. Who do you have number three on your list. That sounds about right for us right number three. I'm the head of the charlotte motor speedway. And i am going to go with thai gibbs. Just he's been an absolute fee nom throughout the past year or so doing all the different races that he's done for joe gibbs racing with this kid. This kid swept both the nascar xfinity series race after spinning in an unsponsored car by the way and then he comes back for the race. The general tire one fifty. Oh and by the way leads every single lap just casually saunters to one hundred out of one hundred lab dominant victory no big deal. What can you even say about. I know we talk about. 'cause motorsports is a family business right and there are a lot of drivers out there who people feel like they're opportunities because it's a family thing and they got family money or whatever you know. Yeah no the tie gibbs in that dominant that just joe gibbs racing money. That's not just family money. That kid is special. That kid is going places. He is going to be an incredible driver in the cup series. Once he hits that level. It's cool to see him in arca right now. you know. It's cool to see what he's done at the xfinity level a couple of races that he's been able to pick off from those regulars. He's passionate his heart is in it you know. He's part of the new generation where he's is going to be a special driver you know it's going to be really cool to watch what he's doing and by the way they actually snuck him into the nascar. I racing pro invitational from chicago on wednesday. Because kyle busch wasn't able to make it didn't work out quite so well for him in that had to start last and ended up getting caught up in a bunch of the virtual street race. Reckon but yeah. That doesn't really deter too much from the xfinity in the arca wins in my book so Still.

"A tight gibbs alex's run six races in the xfinity series this year he has five top five finishes and two wins winning this past weekend at charlotte also run the daytona road. Course joe gibbs grandson and the kid i understand and people will say oh. Yeah he's just driving the best car. He's driving good equipment. There's no doubt about that. But he's winning and running top five in that really good equipment and that says something that self doesn't it i mean it. Does it says this kid can raise. He's only eighteen but not be able to be plugged in like that even in good equipment and still post is winning finishes i i think it silences some of that that talk of. Oh you know. He's coming in and just daddy's money type thing you know he. I think he's proved as proved himself in the series so far. What do you think dustin. Yeah i mean you know it's it's it's a remarkable start to his nascar career to wins in the first six races and he's done a lot of fantastic things he's he's made a lot of Big moves the certainly the move that it was off into the grass and daytona at the road course was was quite a move off a restart There's there's a lot of things that he's doing well he still needs experience. I mean that's why these arca races are still important to getting laps and he still needs to learn and be able to put himself in different situations. It's just like you know where he's talking about the indianapolis five hundred well You know that was a battle between Ellul castro neves who was in his twenty first indianapolis five hundred and Alex polo who was in a second. And you know that was even talked about after the race that it was. You know i think simon pageant saying that that alex polo showed his cards too early and castro nevis was sitting there and knew what to do and i think the whole comment was made was it. It was as one person was playing chess and the other person was playing checkers. And that's based off experience and tie gives done a lot of great things And he's had some good battles but he also needs that experience i think. What's interesting with with the gibbs folks is that you know they still are seem to be restrained in how they're doing it It's not like hayes only twelve to fourteen races. Hey let's get them in in another car and run the rest of the season Or let's try to get another car out there and now certainly some that's related to sponsorship. Because he's running race without sponsorship so You know. I like what he's doing and it's a good first step and what the what joe gibson and and coy and what they're doing and trying to be very cautious and take their time and not rush him up there. I think it's going to be in chintzy. What the next step is you know. Obviously they didn't they went straight without going to the truck series and that was unique approach to it You know you gotta figure it okay. So next year. he's he would should be fulltime xfinity. You anticipate and is a year and and a third year and a half enough to move up to cop or is it. stay a couple years Type thing and then go from there and also that factors into the cup driver. Situation is for toyota. When you get you know a couple three years down the road while the think maybe they learned their lesson. Alex with you know. Obviously you know we remember that. They push joy llegado into the into the cup series admittedly before he was ready and that kinda backfired on him he's thrived since he went to pinski Same type thing for daniel suarez pushed him into copy early because carl edwards stepped away. So i mean maybe now they're looking at ties saying we don't wanna push him too soon. We've seen what happens when you do. Yeah i mean. I think there is that kind of fine line of giving him enough experience but not putting him into so many reasons where he's not going to be successful and then it's going to backfire in that way you were talking about and dustin mentions like those moments still i mean. I think we even saw that on saturday. He spun pretty early in the race there and was still able to drive back to a winning finish. But how can you sort of forward then eliminate those wrecks that come early earned so yeah i mean i think it's fine line. Of how many are you going to enter them in. I think that i. I don't think it would hurt them to see him in more races. Now that he's kind of been able to prove that he can drive these cars and do what he's done but you know that's gotta be tempered with sponsorship and these other drivers that are raising them. I say he's a pretty heady kid. Dustin i'd a chance to interview on the start finish line after the race and you know he was still running the arca race on. Saturday turns the crowd and he goes. Don't go anywhere. We got another one coming up later on. I mean being the crime. Let the credit helping to be playing promoter. While he's doing the whole thing he's learning he's learning and then he goes out and kills the field in the race. And i'll tell you one of the things that's also interesting is as you look at. How long to put him in there. You think about you know. Austin cedric is the reigning expanding series champion. And he was back in the expanding series this year for for penske to as opposed to you know they could have you know maybe could put him in the wood brother's car instead of having benedetto Based off that success you look at You know certainly you know chase briscoe. Was there for a couple years and working his way up and certainly look at the challenges. That chase birth goes add. Now the rookies of had. This is not an easy time for a rookie. Because there's no testing there's no at right now there's no practice. Obviously next year they'll be practice More races and i wanted to support at every race in. That should be helpful. It's still not going to be as much. I don't think as what it was. I don't think you're gonna see too. Many three day shows with with practice only on friday and the qualifying saturday and practice in the race on sunday. They gonna be today shows and condensed schedule so I think laps are important. And for thai gibbs i think you know for an austin syndrich. I think he'd probably tell you maybe for as much as he liked to be up at cup that he also recognizes how important it is to get laps. And i think it's going to be interesting with these these xfinity drivers to once they move up Especially next the next gen car that composite body You can beat the wall down a little bit. And and there's the forgiveness as opposed to the steel body cup cars. And you know. I one thing. I'm going to be intrigued about. is you know. Look at how. What ty tyler. Ruddick has done was seven top tens last nine races. But that's a guy that likes running the wall. How much do things change for him. Next year with the composite body car and You know one of the guys that really can make a big impact because he had so much success in expanding car and had developed line..

"Eighteen. Year old. Thai gibbs the grandson of coach joe gibbs shocked the nascar world with his incredible road course win at daytona. Drivers are continuing to talk about this. They are impressed and here is kurt busch. I i saw something special and to into the series. I never run a race there with those guys. You know these these cars in the tire and the track and they put them in there to go get road course. Experience expecting him to you know just run around there and gain laughs rate and had never done a live. Pitstop is what. I had heard on the broadcast as well. I mean that was something special. I stopped coach gibbs on pit road the next day and we've been in the sport. A longtime coaches seen a lot of different moments in sports. And i said coach. I saw some special.
