Student will be barred from graduation unless he cuts his dreadlocks, school says

"We have a a Texas school district that has suspended a student not for bad grades not for talking back to the teacher not for pull your pants up they have suspended the student and told him that he cannot walk a graduation this spring unless he cut his hair the barber's hill school district told the Andre Arnold that his long dreadlocks violate its dress code the Andre is being forced to either cut his hair or face in in school suspension so I got a couple things with this number one I've known people with dreadlocks all right most people know what red locks I think I I think most still yeah it's not like they grow overnight and it's not like you can like hair extensions where you can just kind of stick them on one day but my point being is if their argument is that his dreadlocks for too long one day become too long well we know that's not true Hey that's a good point it's been growing so you wonder how they said any public been measuring it every day going to your tell you what you're about three millimeters away from getting kicked out of school Bucko so de Andre Arnold he's the student that has the dreadlocks here's what he says Elise was always have been called to the office about my hair every week I can count on it so every week he gets called into the office according to him and they say something to him about its red locks they haven't suspended him yet no but now they're waiting until graduation like ha ha we're going to hold that over his head that's right ha ha we finally got you we couldn't get you out of school but we can stop you from graduating again I thought we were past this and I do not understand because it wasn't red locks dead let's just say hairstyles some hairstyles are culturally sensitive they mean certain things okay and what is the argument how does D. Andres hair affect his ability to learn and for those around him art is the argument the Andres dreadlocks are so distracting that the other kids in math class can't learn well that's not too far fetched I was sitting here before we started and I looked up to someone's are no I looked at Chandler public school's dress code flagstaff Phoenix and dicer and none of them say anything about here except for one and that's in flagstaff and it says if there's any accessories hair clothes jewelry that is a distraction or a safety danger well obviously here is not going to be a safety do what okay but how do you how we would have sent the your hair is what what it's it's flammable eating I don't understand your maybe your hair is going over it in my right now remember it's in a list with jewelry and clothes and accessories for the love of god now the distraction if it's causing students to be distracted because maybe you've got it you know spike doubt a foot or something they can't see around you or someone laughing and some okay maybe it's a distraction but no where in any of those dress codes public schools and by the way this is this is all right this is okay they don't say anything about length of hair and they don't say anything about dreadlocks now the superintendent of the school in Texas said the decision is not about dreadlocks or race which means it's about dreadlocks arrays yeah just about the length of the teen's hair there is no dress code policy that prohibits any corn row or any other method of wearing the hair our policy limits the length it's been that way for thirty years does your policy limit length for women's hair probably not I don't know that but probably not but you see what I'm saying yeah or do they make girls cut their hair if there here's to long I wouldn't because everybody have to have all of Bob or whatever you see and I'm saying it the focus on this and it obviously is about race obviously years although white people have dreads too big you're right they you know they do that the school I want to just requires not washing your hair for a long time right in that what is your group yeah yeah I think I don't don't don't quote me on how you get dreadlocks obviously I haven't had I don't know if you I mean some claim dreadlocks are clean they wash my shampoo this question but anyway we got off topic you know they tried that parents are

If you boycott Israel, then your values are not Texas values Israel is a valuable trading partner to us and is a beloved ally of ours is the only democracy in the Middle East. If you boycott Israel. We will not pay you with Texas tax dollars. It is a beautiful and wonderful statement and a critical and important tool that we use. And yet. A Muslim teacher and not a teacher, but a Muslim speech pathologist speech therapist who has worked for the central Texas district known as a Pflueger Ville I worked Austin in radio in the late nineties. We lived there loved it except for the leftist lean but Pflueger Ville is steam. She's the only Arabic speaking speech, pathologists or speech, therapists for elementary students available. That's there. Well, I'm not available because all I know she's the only one that works for for them to help with speech with people who speak Arabic. And so when she found out about this. She said she was shocked. She said she was outraged and offended, and that she her speech is being chilled or freedom of speech is being children. Here's what she said. In the news to the to the news people and attacked me personally. Text my family. I'm have family members who are still in occupied territory suffering from their brutality, and aggression and struggling every day. So she wants to have what she believes is her right to freedom of speech to be able to boycott and protest, Israel and get paid by the state to help. Our our our elementary students. She is suing. She says, it's vile major violation of freedom of speech is an American citizen as a Muslim American citizen who has a problem with Israel, clearly, and so she's suing. And I wanna know if you think this is a good thing that we pass this law, and if you or if you think this is a violation of her rights, not even I mean legally as a court decide, and I think it's I think happy it's going to the courts, that's fine. But do you think that she should be allowed to be this way? I do not. I do not. I think it's awesome. I think that if you want to boycott Israel, and you can't even. This offend you. You don't want to sign that. That's that's fine Gopi, a speech therapist, or whatever she is and work with people and kids that are Arabic speaking, go work with them privately. Not on our dime. We will not fund your hate your hatred of our Jewish brothers and sisters. We will not stand for your Jew hatred. You are lucky you're an American citizen as a Muslim American. You would have no rights in a Muslim nation. No rights. We have the right with our money, and our dollars that goes to pay for people that work with the state of Texas to say, screw you. Go work for somebody else. We're not paying you an enriching you while you go out and use some of that money to protest and hate Jews. Go hate them on your own dime. You wanna do a private thing? That's fine. You went to work for a private corporation and hate Jews, and they don't have problems, then that's your business. That's america. But you ain't getting our money. And I love it. I love it. Here's the council on American Islamic relations attorney that is defending here in this lawsuit against governor abbot against the state. This law was intended to prevent Americans from exercising. Their constitutional rights to protest the foreign country. And in this case, it's really absurd that the law of the Texas law is taking a foreign countries aside over the side of students who need but. Yeah services. All yeah. They need your services, we're taking a foreign country. Foreign she calls Palestine like she talks about Palestine like it is a state country, and she talks about Israel like it as an occupy occupying territory. That's what she calls them. I mean, this woman really hates her some Jews. Boy, does she hate her some Jews as her right to do that. But but not on our dime. Eight hundred two eight eight WBZ AP's our number eight hundred to eight eight nine two two seven. I am. So proud of our governor for signing into law. I am so proud that. We have this kind of stay state. Do you? Let me ask you something. If a teacher of our children's she'd been teaching our kids for nine years. This makes me think about that gay activists teacher in mid Lowthian who was training her elementary school students about how gays are awesome. And you know, look at all these artists and art class. She was teaching like five six year old seven year old kids about how this artist is gay and his here's his partner. It's like, what are you? What are you doing that has nothing to do with art this woman? God knows what she's teaching these these Muslim students who don't speak English who are teaching them speech therapy in Arabic. God knows what this woman is doing. She may be helping to train up some good jihadis. I mean, she hates the Jews. It's pretty obvious. She wants to be able to boycott Israel, whilst he stuff it up your rump. Get outta here. Go go work down the street for some public company. I don't know I wanna have my mouth on the government teat. Well, that don't boycott Israel. Eight hundred two eight eight WBZ is our number. Let me ask you something. I thought about so many things in this. You know in here in the Metroplex are our cities like Dallas Fort Worth have have specific thing saying, we will not contract with anybody. Who is not a, you know, we we give preference preferential treatment to women owned companies, we give preferential treatment to minority owned companies. So they go out of the way to give deference to people who are minorities who who are or who are women. But but but yeah, we're not allowed to give deference to somebody who. Hates Jews to make it simple and clear. And you know, what else? Let me ask you this as a Texan with your money going to fund and pay this woman. Let's say instead of her being a Jew hater, let's say instead, she was a black hater, let's say she hated black people. Let's say she wanted to have the right to protest at at a at a K K K rally would you want to pay her? Do you think we should would you allow her to be would you would you mind giving? Pay her to be a speech pathologist to our students. If she was a K K K member or rally or for for for. What do you? Call white supremacist groups. I wouldn't want her money going. I would want us paying her. I wouldn't want to put her on our dime. Whether it's a company or an individual, you wanna have views that are against our Texas values if we can legally pass laws or rules or policies that prohibit you from from from spreading hatred of the Jews, I'm all for it or spreading hatred of blacks. I'm all for spreading hatred of Hispanics or Catholics, or whatever you name it. You name it. I don't care. Absolutely not. Coming up next. I'm gonna tell you do other states even have this..

"So there's this case in in Texas in which a Muslim woman was basically asked whether she believed in whether she believed in boycotting Israel, and then she was not hired based on the fact that she believes in boycotting Israel, but that's not the actual full story. Here's how the Washington Post reported behi- Amawi, a speech pathologist was worked as a contractor and in Texas school district for nine years received a new contract agreements signed in September for the upcoming school year, the agreement Astra to affirm that she did not boycott, Israel and assert that she would not while working for the school. She declined to sign it. She was forced to stop working with the district that was based on a law passed by the Republican legislature and governor that prohibits state agencies from contracting. With companies that boycott Israel. She says that this invites her right to free speech now, as you know, I've a very broad view of free speech, and this includes for state employees. So for example, just a couple of weeks ago. I talked about a case in believe South Carolina, where a teacher has now been fired because he was using biological pronouns for a transgender eleven year old or something like that. And it wasn't even using biological pronouns. He was just not using pronouns at all. And this, of course, was discriminatory, and you had to be fired on that basis. What I said is that's violation of free speech is an individual has the right to free speech. Okay. That is not quite the same thing that is happening right here. This woman is busy she's off shop rates as an independent contractor. And the reason that makes the difference is because the government does have policies on who they will hire independent contractors, and they have these policies all over the place. They won't hire independent contractors, for example, who engage in discriminatory housing. They won't hire independent contractors now under the Obama administration. They wouldn't even hire independent contractors who would not provide. Health benefits for sex change operations? For example. I believe that was the policy that the the government has to policies on who it can hire as independent contractors, and he uses those policies to police the sort of political affiliations and perspectives of the people who are contracting, but mainly it doesn't want to pay companies that are then going to violate the government's views on particular subject. So for example, if a company is doing business with Iran than there will be a ban for salted legal to do that under the sanctions. But even without the sanctions, it is plausible. The government would say we cannot hire this company because this company does business with Iran. This is basically the reverse of that this is a company says we are boycotting Israel, which was anti semitic and the government says, okay? Well, then we're not going to contract with you. That is not exactly a quash on free speech. There's a good article about this today by somebody reason magazine, David Bernstein, and he says there are a lot of things I could say about the law and the lawsuit, but I have some time constraints. I'll just explain why they take repeated ingenuously by reporters apparent. Too. Lazy to look the actual text of the underlying law is wrong, Texas has a law banning state entities from contracting with businesses including sole proprietorships that boycott Israel pursuant to section twenty two seventy of the Texas government code the contractor affirms that it does not currently boycott, Israel and will not boycott Israel during the term of the contract pursuant to section twenty two seventy of Texas government code, it's even titled prohibition on contracts with companies, boycotting Israel. So he says this is no different analytically than requiring a contractor to pledge that the business is not refused to hire Muslims or blacks or Jews or veterans or any other state designate group, this is the first amendment analysis, but the lies are being spread by by people who don't really understand the constitution and reporters who want to suggest that this is some sort of of violation of free speech is maybe you still say that this is a bad law. Okay. Certainly plausible. But you have to knowledge that this falls into the category of the government saying we can't contract with X. Because X does something we don't like it does not fall into the category of. We hire an individual to do a job and that individual has opinions that are off the clock..

"Was a gay to major going out there in Texas school district. So it's important to me that everyone gets sex education that is appropriate for them. AST is also sending parents as survey to fill out and says, the new curriculum is still a work in progress hoping to get some guidance from our parents in the community on where they think teaching certain topics would be appropriate staff plan to take what they learn here and create a new curriculum for next school year. I'm glad that they're letting us know in the part of it giving parents voice in just how much students learn about sexuality in school. All right. So there you go the story there from KFC at the scoreboard is expected to vote on the plan to create the new curriculum in February. And if approved the updated lessons are scheduled to be finished by the end of the school year district staff plan to foot too. I work on revising the curriculum for gates three three through eighth third through eighth and then focus on grades K through to the following year. There's going to be a final parent meeting on this issue November the fifteenth at eastside memorial high school. Six o'clock. Your point is good. It really is as far as what has changed. The what has really changed? I guess is the fact that kids have access to whatever they want to see it anytime starting as soon as they know how to put their finger on a keyboard. I think we all can agree. One hundred percent. That's a lot of this stuff this sex education should be taught by mom and dad and your doctor. Right. Right. Right. But it's not happening. No. And we have an epidemic of kids. Having kids in Travis county, Texas leads the nation it unwanted teen. Pregnancies and Travis county leads the nation. There are certain pockets of our community where kids don't get that kind of education, and they're never ever ever gonna listen to you. And they end up having one to three kids out of out of wedlock, which is which which a lot of people say, well, that's none of my business. I don't care about what about that. That's not my world. That's that's over there. But the reality is they end up being on the government dole that you have to pay for you at the very least you should want to reduce teenage pregnancies based on a financial reason that they're going to be dipping into your pocket. You I got it. But yeah, I mean, it's the fact is we were more innocent back. Then the only thing we had access to and we had to work very hard to find. It was a playboy magazine. And that's it. Now, if you want to see someone having sex with the tree, you press the button, boom, there, it is there it is for you. So they have to start explaining this stuff a lot earlier. Absolutely. And and you're right. The parents a lot of the parents aren't doing the job they should be now for for for your job. My generation dad's box playboys in the garage. And you got to see a booby. Right. All right. What a big day that was now. Now, there are things that your kids can see on that phone. You've given them at any age if they've got access to the internet. They can see things on the internet that.
