Border Crisis Sparks Calls for Change in Immigration Policy

"June twenty first two thousand nineteen jv pritzker signs measure to help protect illegal immigrants in illinois governor jv pritzker in june of two dozen nineteen signed three bills designed to protect illegal immigrants in illinois that would prohibit law enforcement agencies from coordinating with federal immigration authorities. Pritzker sign the keeping illinois families together. Act which prohibits local law enforcement from coordinating with immigration customs enforcement. Now this was two years ago. Why am i mentioning this. Because you have blue states by the way this is one of thirty examples of blue states that have been signing laws that prohibit police officers and local sheriffs in da's from coordinating with federal officials. That's an act of secession. That's an act of nullification saying we don't want any part of this. Federal compact and we as republicans and conservatives sat idly by like. Oh yeah that's bad. Let's keep going to the courts they've been ignoring the courts and ignoring the laws for years. And so then when one point eight million illegals come into the country to change the country permanently by the way what do we do. We beg joe biden for help. So what are the democrats do when things start to trend in a direction. They don't like they take action. The democrats have the willingness to reshape. Destroy the country. Republicans are getting there now. Some people emailed us and they said well. Charlie couldn't joe biden nationalize the national guard. It is very rare to do so usually only done with the consent of the governor and prayer pet presidents have rarely federalized a state or territory guard without the consent of the governor in the wake of hurricane katrina president. George w bush declined to take control of the louisiana's national guard due to the objection of governor kathleen blanco. But this is such an easy thing. First of all joe biden can't nationalize state troopers. Secondly he can't nationalize texas rangers. Thirdly the governor of texas would say i'm sorry what did you design a piece of paper. There's still our national guard. They're not gonna listen to you federalized nationalize i mean federalize. And so what should have been done. And what's still can be done. Is every single. Texas ranger national guard member state trooper that can be allocated should be deployed to the southern border with handcuffs and arrest authority and charter flights. Ready to send people back where they came from

If the Federal Government Won't Enforce the Law, the States Need to Enforce the Law

"People are saying well. Charlie federal the federal government is in charge of immigration. Law says all those states are able to assist in immigration regulation and enforcement it is the federal government that has the legal power to enforce. Us immigration laws. The us constitution includes a supremacy clause would prevent state laws interfere with immigration enforcement by the federal government. It is so interesting and frustrating that republicans fall for this nonsense. Let's just use a modern example. I'm going to read this again. The constitution includes a supremacy clause with prevents state laws from interfering with immigration enforcement by the federal government. You think that portland and seattle and san francisco and los angeles complied with that under donald trump when they said ice is not allowed in our cities when they declared themselves sanctuary states and sanctuary cities. You remember that remember. When city said we we're going to defy federal immigration law and republicans. Were just like oh yeah. that's okay. They're just a little nuts in seattle and portland. We're going to let them do it. So let me get this straight seattle and portland san francisco chicago new york and philadelphia and say we are not going to implement federal immigration law but texas can't mobilize twenty thousand texas rangers. National guardsmen to go arrest. People that are coming into their state illegally across the board. You see this is one of the problems with the republican party because the republican party is still living in the nineteen eighties. They don't realize that the stakes have been raised and all of a sudden the other side. Yeah they defy federal immigration law. And they did whatever they wanted to do because they pick and choose what laws they wanted to enforce. What i'm saying is if the federal government will not enforce the law and the states need to start enforcing the law

"Of you who curious. He is the father of david and mike bell who also played in the big leagues. I know david belt. Because he was the third baseman for the mariners. Two thousand one hundred sixteen games So anyway but he he was a he was a fixture for For the rangers another third baseman for this team. When he was with the rangers he was top ten. Mvp once you one Three four five six gold gloves. It's a gold. Love every time every year with them. Like i said he was a four-time all-star with the rangers and again it comes down to a team. That does not have a rich history of talent Pudge spent the most time with them and after that it gets be palmero. Who honestly for me. I think of the rangers and a believed the orioles but anything you know these guys who spent some time in texas but it wasn't their their entire career with them so having having those good years with the rangers really gets him on the mount. Rushmore for me and You gotta have somebody during during those years on. This team was good and the eighties was kind of that time for the rangers. So buddy bell is my third or sorry my fourth. Who's your fourth brig. You know it's gonna come controversial. And i know buddy bell was kind of difficult choices. Well right because you kind of had to decide like where do you go now. So mine's the same way. And i gotta but let me just clear the air. I okay before reveal who it is this doosan. Mvp five time all star three times silver slugger. He won the batting title but his career war is at twenty eight point two. It's a little low for what we would consider a mount rushmore. However this outfielder was a first round draft pick to the tampa bay devil. Rays we all know how first round draft picks go but do play with texas one. Two three four five six seasons after a two year stint in los angeles angels in anaheim. We're talking josh hamilton..

"Two thousand ten. The rangers have been adrian veltri in my opinion in agree. More may legitimately what. I was gonna say two time platinum glove. Four time silver slugger. Five time gold glove four-time all-star career war calculated at ninety three point. Five ninety three point five at a third baseman and a right hand at their basement at that so well. They're all right handed. Shut up. i said that and then had the same thought like why did you say that. And i don't know what happened. I should've just made it sound. Like i was now. What does that usually come on. Man career batting average was two eighty six. Not nothing to write home about there but also just solid solid. It's solid performance. I and i agree that for me. It comes down to. You cannot tell stories about texas rangers without adrian. Beltway doesn't happen and that's really and and it comes down to it too. He's the he's the third player on the list in the top twenty four players in rangers history with forty one point one war with the rangers. It goes pudge rafael palmeiro. And then adrian bell trae. Yep that's that's the top three right there. So in in franchise with as rough of a history have had with guys not sticking around not performing and just generally a franchise that hasn't been great over the years He was a definitely bright spot. For the franchise agreed. Brad why don't you go ahead and give you my fourth or you want to. I think this where we're going to diverge. Honestly i do too actually like looking looking at more. I think this is where it's going to be different I'll go ahead with mine. I'm gonna go with buddy bill. Whoa we do diverge very good. Okay there we go. Sorry for those who bet That's why we don't gamble. So so here's the thing adrian. Beltway spent eight years of his career with the texas rangers. As did buddy bell. These were however his peak years in the middle of his career He was a four-time all-star for the rangers He had a career war with the rangers of sorry. My window is loading thirty. Six point three he had a career batting average of two seventy nine two hundred one home runs fifty five career stolen bases. And for those of you who are curious. He's the father of david and mike bell who also played in the big leagues. I know david bell. Because he was the third baseman for the mariners. Two thousand one when they one hundred sixteen games Anyway but he he was a amuse hughes a fixture for for the rangers. He's another third baseman for this team. When he was with the rangers he he was top ten. Mvp once e- one Three four five. Six gold gloves. It's a gold glove every time every year with them Like i said. "I welcome back baseball family working and wrap up our texas ranger. Mount rushmore here and Two for two on the overlap brad. That's pretty remarkable I think this one. I'm gonna i'm gonna go sir blowing up as well. Let's see if we overlap again. You do this does to all right. I'm going with adrian. Beltway got him on my list. Yeah stakes getting higher. Police show. Call your friends. Make sure you know you you wager on this. If you're not betting on whether we overlap four for four i mean. Are you even listening to us the proper way. I don't know i wanna know. If you're not betting on this podcast were even doing with your life. So what are you do. There's gotta be at least twenty five cents right on this. At least if you're over and under doesn't come out to at least twenty five cents. I'm going to have a problem so the man's never bet on anything. Is life all right brad. Why don't you tell us why you picked. Adrian belts right. Okay so adrian belch So one thing for me for stop is the heyday like his best years of his career came in in texas. I feel like if you ask. Somebody who adrian bell played for the first thing they would tell you is texas average fan not a fan of the dodgers mariners or red sox they would tell you texas Because that's where we saw. That's where we saw him have the most success. He had four all-star years with the rangers. Sorry three with rangers wanted the with with the red sox and Having seen him playing seattle the way that he did a which was not great We refer to his time in seattle as the time. He forgot how to play baseball or forgot. How to hit is good defensively. he's very defensively third base for the mariners but he was not great offensively seattle as so many players are when they get are not when they get there He was he was good in. La is pretty good for the dodgers but he was not as good anywhere as he was with the rangers and Beyond that i mean. That's where we got to know the personality of adrian. Veltri right goofing off. Just silly guy. We saw him taking the when he'd hit home runs Like he would. He would swing on one knee when he runs a boston. Took that to texas He was goof around with elvis andrews. That was one of my favorite. Less is the in fill the round because they would like steel steel fly balls from each other they would make each other catch a fly ball so that was fun to watch is a lot of fun to watch so i loved. It loved his time in texas He was top ten in. Mvp voting three four times won. Four gold gloves regles loves in texas He carried the team into the national spotlight when they didn't necessarily deserve to be. We're not a great team overall. But he was a very good player and by. I mean like guess. Like i said top ten. Mvp voting very very good player. All-star couple times.

"Relief in that box dude. Well we just go home. Because i might actually die here. Nolan ryan does have his number retired with angels. Yeah and that to me to me that shows just how remarkably as we could probably do an entire episode talking about how much we love nolan ryan. We shouldn't right now. But the so he spent partial season nineteen sixty six with the mets. He went on to play with the mets for. You know three or four more years. Then he was with california angels for eight. then he's houston for nine and he finished with texas And he is as bread said chosen texas as his hall of fame cap on his plaque cooperstown. So pretty remarkable guy pretty remarkable performance. I don't think you can tell the story of baseball without nolan ryan. And if he played on that team it's really hard to say. You can't tell the story of the texas rangers without talking about nolan ryan texas boy hometown. The whole shebang love it. Absolutely i agree with you. Agree brig one or two lead us into our next one okay. I'm gonna go with another one that that is for me no brainer. It's probably gonna overlap with you. That pudge yvonne rodriguez. You can't tell the story. The rangers that pudge he played catcher. He's five nine two hundred five pounds this dude in the hall. Mvp fourteen time all-star number retired. He's from puerto rico. Here we go. This is what i'm talking about. Sixty eight point. Seven calculated war. He I'm gonna go. If this thing will turn around and go. He played most of his in texas. He had a stint in florida. Detroit and they franchised himself out for a little while just like everybody does at the end of their career specifically through eight ninety s and early two thousands but Most of his games in most of his successes are in texas. Yeah and he did. He got the world series with the with the florida. Marlins in two thousand and three He he was the catcher on that team on one of the things. That i think is interesting is that you know like you. Said he played the majority of his career in texas and then he went back to texas Nine and i think we all thought that that was just like a farewell tour. He played twenty eight games. But then it's like the nets in two thousand ten. Kim colonies like gal complete hundred. Eleven games for you. Apparently and i'm only thirty eight years old. It's fine as a catcher his entire career. His entire career was primarily catcher. Played a little bit of first base. The a little bit get second base probably just an appearance of detroit. Second basically fill. And i'm sure but nobody does that anymore. Nobody stays at catcher for that long as their primary position. We saw just mauer. Joe mauer go. Yeah when prime break predominantly to first base. I think some of that had to do with concussion. Some of it had to do with an ease but specifically bryce harper was drafted as a catcher out of the community college. He was playing for..

"About that for a minute. Twenty seven years in anything is remarkable. That's like marriages last that long. And that's it some some very few or in the military that long. But that's it though that's it here's i just looked this up. He so of the seven no hitters. Two of them came with the texas rangers so he was north of forty. He is throwing to those no hitters at least and so k. Here's another one for you. Real quick going to bring this back So the his last game Came september twenty second nineteen ninety three in the king dome against my seattle mariners give up two hits walked for gave up five runs and basically like i said i always arm fell off but as he walked to the dugout obviously upset disappointed to tell his career was basically over at that point. He got a standing ovation from the panza seattle. Yep so no he can cool. It's freaking cool. And he said. I felt it go pop and it was it. Just kinda was like hanging lamp and he had to he. He stood on the mound. You should see the video. The videos remarkably takes off his hat and he looks around. And that's when we all were like whoa. You know something is definitely going on here so a couple of statistics that i think are remarkable. His war is has been calculated. Eighty one point three eighty one point three wins above replacement for this starting pitcher. So that's remarkable his lifetime. Er as three point one nine with all those complete games and all those innings pitched better than anybody else like three point one over and thousand innings pitched and giving in his last appearance. He did not record now. gave up. Five earned runs that's essentially an infinite array for that game. Yeah which you know. One game in that mini is not going to have that big of a weight but still he had two of those. It's going to. It could be significant. It's right so that's over. The course of eight hundred seven games that he pitched in. And what i think is he's it hall of famer. Eight time all star part of the nineteen. Sixty-nine world series championship his numbers retired in. I believe texas and in anaheim for. I'm not mistaken but he's he also three saves to his name. Oh three saves as a starting pitcher. now. I don't know how that happens. Other than got pulled in midway through probably a playoff game scenario and that's some winner take all type dude jobs. You imagine same reason exactly. And that's what i was gonna say. Can you imagine saying. Do you know what we need. You come in to this out and make sure and i know you pitched yesterday or the day before but we have got to have you right now and then..

"Welcome back baseball family today. Brig are going to go through and we're going to present our nominations for the texas rangers. Mount rushmore Brig though before we get too far into this is going to present you with the history of the texas rangers and when know it. The washington senators all right now to be brief. We've done this with. All of the mount rushmore is previously. We're going to kind of Go through just a brief snapshot of the history. So this franchise. Texas rangers have been around for sixty one seasons nineteen sixty one to two thousand twenty one current. That is present. I don't see the texas rangers going anywhere to you brad. No i wouldn't think so. Very good stadium so as they can so their record in that time period over the sixty one seasons four thousand five hundred twenty five games one. Excuse me up against four thousand nine hundred fifty four losses. That's a point. Four seventy seven win. Loss percentage if at eight playoff appearances in one seasons two pennants zero count them zero world championships and they have retired six numbers of players all time. And i can go through those now. If you like brad go for it. Go for a brig. Well you know everybody's retired. Jackie robinson's number so forty. Two's on the list since then five. Additional names have been added. And we're talking. Nolan ryan number thirty four adrian. Bell trae number twenty nine. We've got johnny oates as a manager number twenty six michael young number ten and Yvonne pudge rodriguez as wearing number seven. Those are the retired numbers for the franchise very good. Thank you break now. This one of the things that i heard was having time with this as i always look at the all time. Top twenty four players right for these organizations considered like who who of these people would. I consider to be the top ford but on the on the mount rushmore and it was interesting because you have the top four and then number five is ian kinzler and my very first thought was. I can stop right there. Because i wouldn't consider him on putting him on anybody's not rushmore Good miller i i was actually a pretty big inkens are fan. Especially for some specialties. In texas even though they were good beating the mariners added anyway Mostly with detroit but And really. I don't wanna see an all time player..

A Look Back at the 1983 KFC Massacre

"It was one of the most infamous crimes ever committed in east texas. Five people kidnapped from kilgore. Kfc then shot to death now. Thirty five years later. One of the men convicted could soon be set free on september twenty third. Nineteen eighty-three kim. Tyler stopped by kilgore texas. Kfc or and eleven pm to see for mom. Mary was still working to her shock. She found the restaurants door open and blood covering the floor. Kim ran out screaming. This begins one of the most mysterious texas mass slayings and as you can imagine. There are a lot of texas mortars. Today we're gonna talk about the infamous kentucky fried chicken murders so like we said on september twenty third. Nineteen eighty-three mary. Tyler was thirty seven. Opie hughes thirty nine. And joey johnson twenty or on-duty at the kfc and kilgore david maxwell twenty one employees at the restaurant who was off duty and just kind of hanging out and monty landers only nineteen was a friend of theirs and they were both there to visit with joey. The restaurant was about to close. It was likely around eight or nine pm in this two hour between eight or nine. Pm and eleven pm. When kim tyler found the blood inside the restaurant something terrible happened the next day. Five bodies were found by an oilfield worker off county road to thirty two four. Were shot point blank in the head. Their bodies were all pointing north. The fifth was found a ways later one of the women who was assaulted and facing a different direction. Obviously the town was shocked. Close-knit everything you'd think of conservative. Leaning as the police started investigating they started putting some of the pieces together. But since the murders happened between county. Lines ruskin greg counties. It meant it was already a contentious investigation. You'd think about an investigation anyway especially at this time. Nineteen eighty-three probably didn't get all the evidence. Maybe not as thorough as they would have liked and so this complicated things even more soon. The texas rangers also be involved appointed by the department of public safety to keep the case. Organiz sensing the tension between the two different counties. Two cousins from tyler. Romeo pinkerton darnell hartsfield became suspects just weeks after the killings but joe records at the time falsely indicated. The men might have been in jail at the time throwing the cops off their sent though. Hundreds of tips poured in more than a decade. When by before rusk county grand jury began meeting to an indictment in april nineteen ninety-five. The grand jury charged. James earl mankins junior. The son of texas representative with five counts of capital murder. Mankins who had conflicted pass to say the least and his wife deborah who also became a suspect had tied to the scene. There was a fingernail found on the victim's clothing and mankins was missing the same looking fingernail and the to fit while he was charged with the murders he was later released after beginning of pretrial proceedings due to a lack of conclusive

"Proud of this team obviously hated losing losing. I'm proud of my team. The plan is different than the regular season game seven. He's he's getting all you gotta give everything. Today wasn't the result we wanted but we'll come back material. That was the difference in the series. Though i mean you look at the mavericks team it's luka doncic and a bunch of you know bench players outside of kristaps porzingis. Who was supposed to be your number two. Talk about kawhi. Leonard for the clippers and luca. Dodge look at outplayed. Why leonard for most forty seven points or whatever. It was yesterday as far as his average to this series. No question but that's because he had to kawhi. Leonard the clippers dominated. When you go outside the superstars just completely outplayed them out. In finnish smith was the second leading score for the mavericks yesterday with eighteen. And that hasn't been the norm but then this series wasn't The norm and in carlisle will spend the season going to hell. Why couldn't we win. This game win a game at home right especially when they were the first home. Game of the year with the pandemic makes the difference in being a higher seed. Then you have home court advantage and they didn't have that but it is what it is. Now you're you're too young to remember. Well you can go back to twenty eleven. That was the last remember the last time we had something to root about in this town. Because i'm not too young. i'm too old to remember. When are we going to have another championship team. That i can talk about in this down. The i haven't had one since twenty eleven. Yeah that's true. The cowboys have come close. They've got a couple years they haven't though the dads catchier five okay. Well i'm telling arrangers but they're never wanted. I'm not saying they have one. But i'm saying there have been years where you're like. This is the year and then dez doesn't catch the ball when he catches the ball. And then aaron rodgers makes a ridiculous play on the sideline and when dax rookie little plays here and there that derailed potentially championship teams. Just telling you. I'm not getting any younger and eventually i'd like to talk about a championship team again. The mavs need to retool everything before right now. I'm not sure who has the best shot at getting there. What's the mouths. Is it the cowboy fans right now yelling at you know. It's the cowboys cowboys will win this year. Don't get me started on junior shaking your head. I am one of them. So i understand them. Don't get me started on cowboys stars. No well i don't know. They played in the stanley cup. Final last and even number year next year. so maybe they do like the thing Well it's sad what what's sad is now. I don't have anything to talk about until cowboys camp in july and at least we were the rangers team. Now look at the time. Steve don't have time to talk about how bad the rangers are five fifty six now. Thanks steve steve lamb. Here's traffic bill jackson..

Point that we're gonna face what feels like a normal fall. I'm fairly confident. I think An thanks jason. Of course obviously for beyond. But i am fairly confident that we're going to be seen full stadiums In college football pro football all the pro spa sports by the fall. Especially you know you look at major league baseball. And and opening day Obviously the attention on texas rangers having a capacity crowd but everybody did have some restricted level of capacity. And you look at it now. And there's gonna be i think it's close to twenty teams by the fourth of july. That will be having their standing there. Stadium open at one hundred percent capacity. And i think when you go into the fall of the olympics obviously is a totally different animal because of the situation in japan. But i really believe that in this in college football season whether you're watching an sec. Game or pat close game or a group of five game that you're going to be seeing Stands that there might be one or two sections that are socially distanced but for the most part. I think you're gonna see everybody back to what it was. Almost in in in many ways a pre pandemic. Oh set up

"Texas Rangers that are investigating a shooting by a police officer and this is in hot county. Sean David Lucas Wolf City Police officer allegedly connected to the shooting death of Jonathan Pryce was arrested and charged with murder. His bond is set at $1 million. The officers white. The suspect is black. Excuse me. The deceit. The cease generally got shot at by only a suspect at all. This is what the Texas Rangers the same at approximately 8:24 P.m. on October 3rd 2020 Wolf City Police officer Shawn Lucas responded to a disturbance call at the 100 block of Santa Fe Street for a possible fight in progress. Officer. Lucas made contact with a man later identified as 31 year old Jonathan Pryce, who was reportedly involved in the disturbance. Officer Lucas attempted to detain price Who resisted in a non threatening posture and began walking away. Officer Lucas deployed his Taser. Following followed by discharging his service weapon striking price. CMS was notified and price was transported to Hunt Regional hospital where he later died. So in other words, he's walking away. He's not threatening. And he shoots him with a Taser and I don't know what happened with that. But then he shot him with his With his service weapon. And they killed him The preliminary investigation in the case of the actions of Officer Lucas, we're not objectively reasonable. The Texas Rangers have charged Officer Lucas with with the offense of murder and booked him into the Hunt County jail. This investigation is being conducted by the Texas Rangers, where the cooperation with Wolf City Police Department in the Hunt County District Attorney's office notice. No information is being released this time. Lucas was taken into custody and booking of the hunt County jail but was later transferred to the Rock Wall Rock Wall County Jail. Wolf City is about 70 miles north east of Dallas, just to give you some geography on that so It appears to me here we have a guy. Who had no reason whatsoever. We think And that's what the charge is. The guy's charged with murder You're sent there to a disturbance, some sort of fight breaking out. And one of the guys involved allegedly. And and then I saw another thing that said it was a domestic disturbance. And I'm not sure you know that would involve one would think a woman But we don't know this guy price. On says that This guy was known as a local hero. I don't know. I don't know. They talk about him in this like we're supposed to know. So maybe if if Jonathan Pryce is famous, and I don't know A lot of sports folks. Air Tweeting about this today. But that may be just because it's you know, white officer a black victim, and in this case, it looks like that's see. That's where I was. I tweeted this because I saw this story today. And so I responded. To Neal boards who had tweeted this thing, and I said long If black lives matter, we're more selective about which black lives matter. Then they wouldn't be so transparently. Marxist. This is one of those situations. We should be out wretches like the George Floyd thing. We see this we go. This is Rome. I mean, I'm seeing this thing I'm going. This is absolutely wrong. This guy obviously charged with murder. This is outrageous. This should not happen. But it doesn't mean that every one of these cases is the same. And they bring up these cases like they're all the same. Anytime. You have a black person shot by white officer Then, obviously they say that it's the same thing and what they do. Is they water down the message if you're selective in ones that are legitimately outrageous. Then you'll have the rest of us on your side. What you want us to do? Is be outraged by any time a police officer shoots a black person. Which is not something to be outraged over. It should be out. We should be outraged if the person was innocent and not a threat to the police off like in this case. So I'm all about doing something about bad cops. Weeding them out doing something about police brutality. But we never here When this happens to a white person in my understanding, it happens Farm or the white folks and does the black folks. But regardless, it's a new story. It's in the news. And I see the thing. I'm not just gonna ignore it either. So I'm not going. I'm not going to be is bad on the other side of saying, what were you gonna ignore it when it's a black guy? So I see this story today and I'm going. This is outrages. And this guy is going to be charged with murder. He will probably be convicted. I would think if what we're seeing initially from the investigator from the Texas Rangers is right. Because mine is standing is Basically, and there's some extenuating circumstances basically. The same law applies to police officer supplies there. Everybody else If somebody is walking away from you, and they're not threatening you, you can't just shoot him in the back and kill him. You just can't do it. I don't care whether you're police officer or citizen. That's why they tell you even if somebody's busted in your home. Unless they're coming at you. You can't shoot them. After coming at you. That's a different story. You're defending yourself. But if they're running out of the house and you shoot them Well, it's going to be on you. You may be able to argue your case that you felt like you were threatened. You didn't know exactly where they were and lovable blob. But certainly if you're a cop, you should know better. And so this guy is charged with murder and I think as well he should be so What else we got going on. Oh, by the way, 6157379986. "Other sports bars, either. All righty. Just, you know. Teach their own. Hey, um, What's your favorite thing? There? The cake, right? Haha. I came across this critic of sports and I, Joe. No, Joe doesn't watch the end. Now it's dead to me. I'm usually a giant NBA fan. I haven't caught a second of action. I mean, I love N BA playoffs. That's my favorite sport, but says the N BA playoff games are better in the bubble. The No home court. The no fans the no travel just two teams playing basketball's actually better basketball. That's interesting. I haven't watched baseball was instituting a multi city bubble system for its playoffs is well until the first round is the top seed gets all three home games. Gets all three games just three game series. It's an extra round of playoffs, but they're not going to go to just four stadiums in California, Texas, But it's not a crowd. So that's most of your home home field advantage, right? Yeah, but then the world Siri's on DH actually, after the first round. I think this is correct. All the rounds will be in neutral fields. And then the World Series is at a neutral field. We don't unless the Texas Rangers get intothe Siri's. I think I like that Houston. I can't remember. I like the idea of neutral fields for playoff stuff. But I do think there needs to be some sort of advantage for being a better regular season. Team, like seed should have some advantage and how they figure that out. I don't know you start the game ahead, two to nothing. I love the idea of the higher seed gets to pick who they play that in my face like that. Call a minute. Wait a minute. Now that said echoes of the schoolyard cruelty. We all grew up with. You know, the ancient expression isn't crack of the bat. The pitter patter of feet was the crack of the bat. The roar of the crowd while you're there, man. Um on man. Working from home Zoom working. "And I don't want to just pick out one player because there were a few for the reds Yossi. Oh, Puig, was hot of the reds five hits he had three of them a double and two singles, Joey Votto, hit a single in the first inning and Nixon Zell accounted for the reds only run with a solo Homer in the eighth inning for the Texas Rangers who had eight his. Only one player had multiple hits that was catcher Tim Federova each batting into number eight hole for the Rangers. But the big blow was delivered in the fifth inning grand slam by route netted door. Second baseman for the Texas Rangers and he was hot tonight. He came in with a one seventy nine batting average. Well, it's up to one eighty two. Now he was one for two with three walks in four runs batted in. So if I had to pick one player it had to be adore, because he delivered the the monster shot that beat the Cincinnati Reds tonight. And that leads us to tonight's safe at home segment. Brought to you by U. F G. Trust your insurance needs to accompany with over seventy years experience you f g insurance Shinsu chew scored two line. OD shields junior scored as drubel Cabrera scored and rude Netto door scored that was in the fifth inning on adores grand slam off of Juan de Peralta in the fifth inning Peralta, coming on to relieve Tyler Molly Molly falls to two and seven he needed ninety six pitches. He threw sixty one strikes to get through four in third innings. Now you go back to the first they could have easily got the Ritz could of easily gotten out of the top of the first with no runs for the Texas Rangers, but a passed ball by Kurt. Caselli. Sent runners from first and second to second and third. It just opened the floodgates for two runs. And there was a double steal that got pulled off in the runner called out at home. But then a replay request by the Texas Rangers and ruled safe at home to run score very, very unfortunate. It really wasn't tighter. Molly's fall. He could have gotten out of that inning with, with some better defense wasn't meant to be. They fall behind to nothing. Do the Cincinnati Reds door comes through with the big grand slam in the fifth inning. And then a sac fly in the seventh the Rangers play add on to reds purchase. Looking to get any kind of semblance of consistent offense going, and it hasn't been there, all year one step forward, two steps back in. That's why they're back in the cellar. In like I mentioned at the top of the show, briefly, they were in fourth place. They overtook the pirates who what lost seven games in a row. But the pirates hammer the the Marlins tonight. And. In their one percentage point like one, one thousand of percentage point or the Cincinnati Reds behind the pirates back in last place, very frustrating. Let's go out to the phones that we welcome in fill up in Taylor mill. Phillip you are on the acute hearing centers dot com hotline, good evening. Shit. A question that you have your bottle kitchen mine on the game. When he's got eighty million dollars in the Bank. He's got like what one hundred million left to back. Yes. The news and concentrate on rousing baseball game with that kind of money. Well, I think he concentrates believe me, he's nobody works harder than Joey Votto. He probably works too hard because he so I mean he's so intense every pitch. And what's so frustrating, we talk about this all the time is when he takes a call third strike. That is very frustrating. Sometimes it looks like he wants to walk that he's looking for the walk. But he's that introspective, he's that tuned in and really when he comes to the plate, he's not thinking about dollar signs. He's thinking about hitting the ball out into the green grass where there's no defenders. I wish I walk shoes. Right to the Bank, Phil. Yeah. Hitting the lottery. Brother in. It reminds me of, hey, it reminds me of an old up Paul Brown quote. I don't blame you either blame the man that hired you. Well. Hey. Joey Votto, he's, he's earning his stripes is batting averages back up now to what to fifty seven but I wanna go over these batting averages. Nixon Zell to seventy two vodkas up to fifty seven when he was, you know what a month ago he was at the Mendoza line and swore. As is now down the to fifty seven from the high eighty s Dietrich to thirty six. He's struggling is up to two twenty two with three hits the night. But Jose glaze to ninety four the play that he made deepen the whole tonight. Are you kidding me diving he's on really all fours gets the ball up, and he rifles at the Joey Votto. Just absolutely amazing. He belongs in the all star game. No doubt and Peraza to ten Caselli's baton to eighty six so no throw three hundred hitters on this club. Staggers the imagination yet. You're right. Compla- ball. I don't think that make ball players. I, I think that businessmen oh, they, they certainly are. They certainly are Philip and man, hey, I wish you'd call again, brother. Did you see what highly said after the game about getting pulled? I did not see that he made some pretty rack comments about about taking early not even tonight the last few game out. Do you feel about that? Well, if he's going strong leading let him stay in and there are going to be nights where you're going to have to take a bullet for the team. Hey, keep him in there. Hey, Brandon Finnegan was upset that he got taken out last year when he was getting his brains beaten. So these guys think they are bulletproof. You know what it's almost like the attitude you almost like it. Hey, I want to be out there. They want the ball and those two runs were really man. You hit a batter it, but they could have gotten out of that with the ground ball that should have been a would have been a double play without Curtis alleys passed ball. "If they like the smell of it, Hollywood. Good afternoon. I'm Pat Thurston. Ten sinka is my guest Tim Sika is movie critic extraordinaire. He was the longest president of the San Francisco film, Critics Circle. His website is celluloiddreams dot net. Hey, Tim, Pat, I would much rather be on geo talking with you than in the Hollywood, would you wouldn't it depend on where in Hollywood? Be on your show, talking about Hollywood. Hollywood was smelled. Well, I think it does. You mean like literally like it's, it's, it's stinks. Yeah. Have you been there been there? I've been there a couple times. Yeah, but you went probably two nice places. Well, well, I went to some of the touristy places and at the Greek theater, and a couple cinemas and stuff. But it didn't smell. No. Where they have, you know, grandma Chinese they have all the footprints and stuff. I went there seemed a little rundown than you know. But it didn't smell. Okay. All right. Then I'll take it back. Maybe it was a bad day. And at least your, your studio doesn't smell. So it doesn't actually very good today. I think yeah. Let's let's, let's start with that any. Yeah. I'm going to be I'm going to be seeing you next week. No, you are. Is it Friday that you're going to be here next Friday? Yeah. Excellent. Oh that'll be so much fun. I test to the fact that it smells good. You know, make sure you sound like sure I'll make sure there's vanilla. And, and lavender, those are supposed to be missed or something, those are the fragrances that men are supposed to like the nila. Yeah. I read that somewhere once I think it was in playboy, but I can swear to. Well, because I read the articles. Yeah. You just you just get into the articles. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Except I'm not a man Tim Mr. Sika. First of all, I want to take back something I said to you, I told you that I thought Kevin Costner was a stinky actor, then you spin on that, that thing forever with me. And I'm taken aback, because I saw was it was a movie called the highway man, the one about Bonnie and CLYDE, with Kevin Costner, and Woody Harrelson, Texas Rangers who? Costner was brilliant. He was great in that movie. I take it back and I saw an apology to Kevin Costner. I'm sure if he were listening he would be very happy to know that you're taking that back because he was a good in that role. He was really good in that role. I mean it was like he was that role. And that's what you want is, you know, you don't want to think that that's Kevin Costner, which in like dances with wolves. And that other one. You gotta get that in those movies just made me always go. Kevin Costner is acting here, and I and I didn't like it. That's why I didn't like about him. But this one, I mean you're just sucked into this movie. I thought it was very good. And what was interesting is it was a movie that concern Bonnie and CLYDE. But there was very little body and CLYDE in it. Yeah. Right. It's funny 'cause I thought it, yeah, it was. It was sort of by the numbers old old fashioned straightforward filmmaking style. You know, but we hardly get a glimpse abundant quiet except except from a distance until the end. And so they come across the way, they're portrayed in the movie as the sort of untouchable, scary phantoms, which makes their story all that much more. Chilling right? Right. And that they have this enormous fan club, you know that people consider them to be because at the time people were really suffering. And so the banks were evil and they were hitting these banks. But the banks weren't the only people who suffered from them they weren't the only people who got killed slaughtered, by Bonnie and CLYDE. I mean, it was just it was just an unbelievably lawless couple, and so on. And some of the images, we saw them, I think were actual images like from newspapers, right? Archival photographs. Either copies of the very end they did to, and, and those were the real people. But yeah, so. It wasn't and the other interesting thing, I learned when I watched that movie that I remember is during Bunning clydes of, you know, rain of killing that Texas had a, a woman governor me too. That was absolutely stunned. They called her mom. I know you know what that sounds like a Mike, she, like she was a killer, you know, Ma Ferguson, Ma Barker Barker. Parker. Yeah. But she was she was the first female governor of Texas. She served two terms and who knew who knew it seemed like she had a great deal of respect from people, I was shocked at that point in time that they would have in Texas. Yeah. Nineteen twenty I think he served opposite. I always remember these figures. Nine hundred twenty five thousand nine hundred twenty seven and then the second term was a nineteen thirty three to thirty five took the first time she took over for her husband. On some kind of I don't know if it was a money laundering thing. It was some kind of political scandal that he was convicted of sushi took over for him. And then there was like a eight year hiatus between that term and her second term, but it's just interesting. Kathy Bates played her played her yet. She was great. I mean I thought the whole movie was really good. I enjoyed it very much, and I watched it at home. While I was folding clothes, which I also liked. I remember was wasn't there some kind of veiled reference to the Kardashians, or maybe even the Trump's when, when they were referring to Bonnie Parker's poetry? I think Woody Harrelson who played what was his name many goals. He was one of the other Texas Rangers that worked with Frank Hamer, who was played by him and Costner. He said that it used to be you had to have talent to get published. And all you have to shoot people. It was. I thought it was a veiled reference to the Kardashians. Because Bonnie Parker wrote poetry and the newspapers, publish it. And he never thought it was very good. And anyway. Yeah, that I didn't get that reference. But that's probably folding clothes. His bold in that moment. And it was a shirt it had to be assured. Have pain. Okay. So let's talk about some movies out now. And I would like to start with rocket man for a particular reason. But first, let's talk about it because I, I am an Elton John fan. When he appeared in that movie recently. I loved it so much. What was that movie with a British guy, and it was all campy, yet, it was actually one of the actors that was in that movie plays him rocket man? What was the name of that movie? Do you remember? Yeah. They made two movies. It was. Yeah. Anyway, I, I know that we'll be. And we'll think of it as we talk on this was the movie the rock band movie. I went in expecting to dislike but I actually enjoyed it. It's a, it's a biography of Elton John singer. Songwriter performer and accidents being described as a Kingsman tunic Kingsman highway. Right. Right. Right. Yeah. Yeah. What's his name, the actor anyway? Yeah. I'm going to get to that. I, I have to go through this, in my head, but movie I thought this was going to be like a regular biography of Elton John and it's described as a biographical fantasy. But to me, it was more of a musical fantasy. So it kinda had me there. And this was kind of a nice surprise, and I bought that conceit pretty quickly, especially when I saw how it was kinda working, and effectively working in the furtherest of the kind of story, the filmmakers wanted to tell the movie was directed by this guy named Dexter Fletcher who stepped in for Brian singer and finish. Bohemian rhapsody when singer was fired from that film, it was written by Lee hall to who penned, the screenplay for the two thousand film. Billy Elliot and the other thing about this film, Pat, is that it's dark. It's really about the alcoholic drug hands sexual addictions about John and how his music. His songs were shaped by those addictions. You know, in addition to experiencing an unloving childhood, he had a very distant father in an ambivalent mother, the framing devices Elton John dressed in one of his crazy, costumes that rooster costume opening up to two fellow addicts at an AA gathering and they keep cutting back to that. And you know, I mean that sounds really funny. Well, it is, this is what's interesting. It's very dark movie kinda clothed in a lot of color, a lot of sort of heightened fantasy sequences and the songs Elton John song. He was a guy who wrote songs that were crazy popular he made millions of dollars. But during all of this, he was mightily struggling and deeply unhappy. He was regularly suffering trying to come to terms with his homosexuality which, thankfully, this movie is not shy away from depicting at all. And all the way. Wait was that when he was young or was that when he had become a singer in was a person of note was he still struggling with his sexuality? Oh, yeah. He was all no kidding. There's a there's an epilogue note at the end that says, he's been sober for twenty eight years. I think he's in his seventies now. So the movie would have gone up through the time, he actually came to terms with his own addictions, which would have been probably what I don't know do the math, he would have been in his forties. So two picks a lot of his success and success on the level that he achieved was enough to make anyone potentially tumble down into the abyss with so much so intense and so amazing. But I really enjoyed even though the basic plot points in rocket man. They leaned toward biographical, tropes, and cliches, how filmmakers in making this a musical type fantasy kinda countered that it was very creative, and semi interesting approach. The telling of the life, and chievements and the music and the songs of a rock and roll icon. There's some very impressively stage musical numbers. People break out in song performances are good, a Tarrant that's his name. Taryn Eggert when you say people break out in song, even in the audience. No. No. Okay. The people the characters in the movie will break out in song, do and conventional musicals. But they but all the songs are Elton John songs, and they tend to comment on what we have already seen, or what's about to come actually very, very, very clever, and the songs and the music. I n realized how much of his songs had permeated my psyche until I saw this movie. And while I never outright dismiss Elton, John. I always thought he was a little sort of overrated as a composer. I tend to be a musical snob because I like classical music. But. When you're reminded of his output, which, which I hadn't realized that I knew I knew all the songs and all the words to every single..
