"Ago and far away And so much of this debate about guns in particularly those that are rural is a romance of another time and place Even Walter Cronkite would agree it's gone How does President Biden engage with a nation that has a romance about firearms and hunting with a technological gun realities of today How would you propose that they try to move forward Well you know in 1934 there were regulations to cut back on automatic weapons I mean our country has done this before when you look at the type of weaponry there have been restrictions put in place in 1994 There are restrictions on automatic weapons There is a conversation and I expect to have it with governor Hutchinson about rural parts of this country where people literally do hunt for food and sustenance for their families sometimes 18 year old dads right So that's the argument against putting restrictions on age or on long guns But what type of long gun are we really talking about here when you refer to AR-15 style weapons And what about the ammunition Because this shooter walked into that elementary school With double the amount of ammunition that a U.S. soldier carries into combat Double the amount Shouldn't have purchased like that potentially raise some questions There are things that can be conversations about gun safety that aren't about taking guns away or not It's not black or white So those are the kind of things we want to talk about Sunday Margaret thank you so much Face the nation across the CBS television networks see it on Sunday You could hear it on Bloomberg radio 2 p.m. across New York "The river many times and finding as it turns out holes in america's border system where they can descend on areas and then apply for asylum juniors on a thirty two year old man from haiti watched as people cure cautiously carried cases of water bags of food through the knee high river. Water shin. Sean said he lived on the streets and she lay the past. Four years resigned to searching for food in garbage cans gate so what drove him now if he was in july for the past four years. What exactly was the big driver. right now. could have something to do. With the advent of a brand new administration that is not led by donald trump. He said we're all looking for a better life. The department of homeland security says saturday had moved about two thousand of the migrants from the camp to other locations on friday for processing impossible removal from the united states. They also said they'd have four hundred agents and officers in the area by monday morning. Now here's the reason why they are doing that. The reason that they are sending a bunch of new officers is of course because it been humiliating to them that the state of texas had actually intervened and since its own officers right. That's actually what happened here. Is that the state of texas sent law enforcement officers. According to daily wire law enforcement officials with the state of texas appear have taken control of the situation in del rio texas after the biden administration repeatedly failed stop. Tens of thousands of migrants from illegally entering the united states governor. Greg abbott said in its week quote the texas department. Public safety is in full force along the border around del rio area and then put a picture that showed scores of law enforcement vehicles that had descended on the area. He said they built a barricade with their squad. Cars state troopers. The national guard is working with them to secure the border as well. Fox news at national correspondent. Bill moog tweeted out of video showing the massive surgeon law enforcement presence at the border. The texas department of public safety tweeted out photographs from the ground and from their drone showing the scale of the abbot response to the crisis. That started late last week. In erupted over the past few days and of course the texas department of public safety noted their response came after the federal government had failed to secure the border. We say they had failed to secure the bore. We actually have some pictures and video of what it looks like when you failed to secure the border here is a picture from the air of the migrant camp which is under a freeway overpass. And if you can't see i will describe it for you. It is literally thousands upon thousands of people who are standing under an overpass many of them in one hundred degree. Heat a lot of them as it turns out from some of the from some of the video have built themselves. Ramshackle structures using essentially leaves and sticks interest that they don't burn death or dehydrate to death under the overpass humanitarian crisis as well fox news bill moluccan. He says listen. Our border is wide open has where hundreds of people are streaming into the united states. Right now Certainly does not look like an international border there but you can see the crowds of people down there. These are people who have just crossed and brian counting. Look that's where they're all walking the bridge right now. That's why there's so many people under the bridge you can see them streaming in across the marino grand that they that's what they officially cross illegally into the united states and seeing the scope of it all over the place. It's wild wide open where you're looking at right now. Mazing the faa had actually attempted to ban drone footage from this particular area citing lack of safety protocols. Which of course is incredibly silly. Because they've had drones over there for quite a while that was purely an attempt to stop the news from covering it and then when they got caught then they reversed themselves. Some of the video from under the bridge is just as disturbing and some of the five hundred thousand foot video that you're seeing right there. Here are some of the video from from underneath the bridge. That was taken also by bill. Moluccan if you can't see it again. You're seeing huge crowds people. These are those structures is talking about blankets small children. Some of the people who are who are sitting here in the in the sunshine is unbelievable. It's a refugee camp directly on the board. Now i have a question. where is she sought. Michaela i was told that. Nah i know that the parking lots adjacent to holding facilities really upset her upset her so much that she shows up wearing white costumes and and then stands outside and cries directly into camera. I know it's very upsetting to see large stretches of pavement and no actual migrants there. But when there's like thousands of migrants under an overpass many of them suffering from humanitarian need. I don't see her anywhere. But i guess she was at the met gala issues. She's you know she's busy. And meanwhile the democratic mayor of del. Rio is slamming. Joe biden he is his name. Is bruno ralphie lasana. He tweeted out the. Us is failing to protect. Its borders. why aren't you here. He was tweeting out at vice president. Kamala harris gate the meanwhile you had the representative august pfleger republican of texas saying. Yeah this is a pretty major crisis that we're looking at right now. This is not just some sort of temporary problem. And of course this is part of a broader crisis. Hey here's representative flavor. You can see the tragedy coming across the weird dan. We're about a hundred yards away from the international bridge and del rio over fourteen thousand eight hundred people as of this morning up from twelve thousand up from ten thousand. This week we have surged from one to two thousand fourteen thousand. This is a crisis. We need the administration to call it a crisis to take action. Not just here. But all along our southern border where we're going to have two million people illegal immigrants that are documented that doesn't include the god that doesn't include the known or suspected terrorists. We need the administration to do something right now. According to pflueger a lot of these people are military age males he reportedly told fox news there was allegedly criminal activity taking place in the area where illegal immigrants were staying under the bridge. According to pflueger the border officials told him this was the worst they have ever seen it. Yell said this was worse than you could imagine any said. The worst is yet to come because if they decide to riot or if unrest happened it'd be a terrible situation is right. It's one hundred degrees outside right now. You literally have fourteen thousand eight hundred seventy eight people here. That's how serious the situation is right now. Even the new york times reported that local officials are describing the scene as they quote shantytown with little access to clean water and food and just a few portable toilets times noted. No running water at the site photos showed people having to carry large packages of bottled water into the area. So as i say. The governor of texas sent some people in there to try and clean things up and this then prompted the biden administration to respond. We'll get to that in just one moment. I let us talk about the declaration of your home so you've remained a lot of your house already. Rhyming made it look better. You repainted at recently. Got some new furniture. "Now we returned to reveal the danger on our doorstep on what we're doing to stop it. They've been trained for war and we haven't been paying attention. Laura Logan is our guest talk about a new syriza she has done for Fox Nation. About the dangers of the cartels and the U. S Mexican border a few years ago, when Isis had peaked in its power and was exercising such control over Syria and really wreaking havoc in that region. One of the things that was frightening was that they were no longer seeking donations online from from Fellow travelers. They took control of the oil as you talked about and what we're seeing with the cartels, which you which you referred to is there literally setting up road blocks like a like a Mafia operation. And if you're bringing avocados northward, which is where they come, they're taking a cut out of every, uh, avocado coming through there controlling oil reserves. Which gives them the power of a nation state. I mean, when you have that kind of funding, you're a really ferocious organization. Yes, Actually, it is funding your right because it's billions and billions and billions of dollars, right? It's endless amounts of money and zero accountability. You're not accountable to anybody. I mean in Mexico. What is it? 98% of the murders? Go uninvestigated. Never mind unprosecuted or, you know people walking free. They're not investigated 98%. You're killing all of these people more than 35,000 people a year in Mexico, and those are just the ones that the government admits to write. That doesn't count all the missing that doesn't count. You know all those lying in mass graves all across Mexico still undiscovered. So you're killing that many people and you're getting away with murder. 98% of the time. I mean, that's just extraordinary. Plus, you're not part of any international agreement. There's no limit to what you could do. There's no limit to how you can prosecute your war. And significantly the car. Chuck realized a long time ago. Everybody knows. You know this data's because they were a big name, and many people know that the Zetas were recruited from Mexican special forces and that they had some of their training or lot of their training came from the U. S. And so they were very good at what they did. And when they were recruited by the Gulf cartel, initially to be a kind of enforcement, you know, to protect their route, and then they became more and more powerful than they broke away and made their own hotel. But what that settles every cartel when one adopts a tactic, all the others adopt the same tactic because they don't want to be outdone. Right, And they don't wanna be out guns or outmatched. So what that did was militarized The cartels now many of them are working with, you know the FARC in Colombia or Guatemalan organizations or sometimes you know, it has Bella on bend others and they have these enforcement arms who used military training and military tactics and military weapons. I mean, There's a video out there, you can see it is a really, really significant analyst Jason Jones, who ran the cross Border counterterrorism center and Operation Center for Texas Department, public safety and, you know, he's one of these great guys who gave up his whole career so that because he was so alarmed by all the what he calls, trip wires and triggers. Which are all signed the indicators that these things are changing, and he couldn't believe that the U. S government was doing nothing about it. And he didn't want policemen and you know law enforcement across this country to be facing things every day in their towns and cities and have no idea what they were really about. So that you know, a Carjacking or car step is not really just the car stepped right. It's a cartel having a car stolen to move its product, or, you know, to carry out an assassination or whatever. And so Jason has documented this transformation of the cartel. How they've gone from, you know, for example, putting a few rough armor plates. Onto a vehicle to try and get it, you know, on the plate it and then the second generation on the vehicles, Third generation armored vehicles, fourth generation fifth generation where they are now where they have really liked liked armor that is super super Impenetrable, and it is attached to their vehicles that helps them move at high speed. Because there are war every single day, and they maneuver like military units. They carry out targeted assassinations. And, you know, I mean, they have a capability that we have failed to recognize. And they have an unlimited budget. And on top of that they have partners like Hezbollah, like the Chinese Communist Party, their partners have had significant power behind them. Nefarious intent and what we still think of with when it comes to narcotics. We still think well, okay, you know, so these people who are against narcotics, you know, they just you know, they have issues with trust. And it's It's ridiculous, right? But what I don't understand Is that the Communist Party of China one week when really, you know, basically found out manufacturing capability to China. We gave the Communist Party of China or the drugs that we have that U. S companies have ever invented or manufacture and one of them was Sentinel, which had been used You know, in surgeries for some time and what is a very powerful drug and they turned that into a street drug and they did it in the last, you know. What is it since 12 4013, not even 10 years. You've gone. You find little powerful drug and they turned that into a street drug and they did it in the last. You know. What is it? 12 4013, not even 10 years. You've gone you find literally from never seen sentinel on the streets to now, finding fentanyl mixed into every other kind of drug you can't buy. According to the DEA. You can't buy pure heroin in the United States. Anywhere. I mean, they've tried and tried and tried. That doesn't mean it isn't somewhere, but it's very hard. Why? Because they're mixing fennel into heroin, cocaine mess you name it, And then with the prescription over those, you know, crisis the opioid crisis what they did when the US government crackdown on prescription opioids. They, the Mexican cartels and the Chinese working together, then filled the void and they've been shipping counterfeits. Machines till machines, colored eyes stamps. You name it. They've been shipping all of that with the precursor chemicals to the cartels. And they have now now when you you think you're buying Oxy code? Oh, no. You think you're buying Xanax or Admiral? You know some they've got 14 year old girls. Who anxious about school the next day. Maybe they're being bullied. Maybe just, you know, our have had personal issues. They take what they think isn't a Xanax and there get One pill can kill you because they don't mix them properly. And fentanyl is so powerful that you get what's called a hot pill. And that's why even though prescription opioids are down, so I mean you can't get prescription filled even people who need them struggle to get them. But yet you have more over those deaths than ever. Because spent an hour is killing people. And it is an instrument of state power for the communist Chinese Communist Party, something called drug warfare, which they have used in throughout their history and are very familiar with and fits into their doctrine of unrestricted warfare, because that's what we look at all these things in isolation. We don't really understand what they mean. We look at the border in isolation without looking at what the Biden administration is doing at the same time with the second Amendment, and so on, and so on. We'll continue our conversation with Lara Logan coming up..
