Fentanyl Vaccine-Fentanyl intro and wrap
"Researchers at the university of Houston demonstrated a potential weapon in the fight against the nation's growing fentanyl crisis. Doctor Colin Hale's team is working on a vaccine. This in combination with president treatments will be a game changer. Hale says you get the vaccine. You develop antibodies against fentanyl. These antibodies bind to fentanyl if it is consumed and prevent it from getting into the brain where it may trigger euphoric centers or trigger respiratory depression and opioid overdose death. Texas governor Greg Abbott met with the researchers. Quite literally fentanyl is killing Texas. Abbott says the problem is not just in his state, its nationwide. Over the past year, about 1400 Texans lost their lives because of Fibonacci. Hale says current fentanyl treatments are not adequate, and we need a different strategy. I'm Ed Donahue
Tagovailoa, Dolphins rout Texans 30-15 for 5th straight win
"To a tongue by loa completed 22 of 36 passes for 299 yards and a touchdown as the dolphins beat the Texans 30 to 15. I'm not able to have recognition or any of that without everyone doing their jobs doing their assignments. If a team has success, that's what brings individual success for anyone on any team. The dolphins led 30 to nothing at halftime as they improved to 8 and three on the season. Tyree kill caught 6 passes for 85 yards while Jalen waddle finished with 5 catches for 85 yards. The law straps the Texans to one 9 and one. I'm Adam splain.
Heinicke, defense lead Commanders over Texans 23-10
"The commander is allowed just 5 yards in the first half as they won for the 5th time in 6 games beating the Texans 23 to ten On Houston's second play from scrimmage Kendall fuller intercepted Davis mills and returned it 37 yards for a touchdown Commanders defensive tackle Jonathan Allen I think K four and the defensive backs had a phenomenal game and allowed us to put up some of the numbers we did I mean all in all the defense played phenomenal You know I wish we would finish better to get to where we want to get to We got to finish games a little bit better than that And we understand that Washington's defense held Houston's rushing attack to 21 yards on 16 carries and finished with 5 sacks Adam Spillane Houston
Jones, Barkley lead Giants past Texans 24-16 for 7-2 start
"You knew when the Houston Texans faced the New York Giants Sunday the running backs would be a big part of the story and they were rookie Damian pierce racking up 94 yards while saquon Barkley carried the ball a career high 35 times for a 152 The difference though when the Giants 24 16 home win was the defense forcing two turnovers and limiting the Texans to field goals in their last two possessions The giant 72 started their best since going 8 and one to start the 2008 season Matt Michael she's Rutherford
Tim Barton: No Red Tsunami Speaks to Lack of Republican Leadership
"When you look at the opportunities, the Republican Party had with an incredibly down economy with inflation with a Biden agenda that was not resonating with Americans. When 81% of Americans thought we were headed the wrong direction, then for Republicans to not have this tsunami that was thought to be there, it speaks a lot to some of the leaders of the various state Republican parties because when you have a state like Florida that is able to do as well as they did and even if we look to New York, which as a Texan, as a conservative and Christian, we aren't always have the most pleasant thoughts of New York, but if you're looking at New York and the fact that the Democrat congressional campaign committee chair, Sean Patrick maloney, is defeated in New York. Well, if you can take a victory in New York and we're not able to secure victories in more moderate or even conservative places around the nation, it's very telling for the failures of leadership for a lot of the Republican movement and especially in those various states.

GOP House Candidate Cassy Garcia on the Damage Cartels Have Done
"Little bit about the damage the cartels have done. To the southern border and in your district, the drugs, the crime, and the cartels are no joke and he accepts money from the cartels, talk about that. Look, you know, he obviously, he's been in office for 18 years, but I am a lifelong style Texan. I'm also the wife of a border patrol agent. And so when we talk about the cartels, they're making billions and billions of dollars. People that are trying to cross our country, you know, they're paying them to come across here. People are dying. We talk about the fentanyl crisis that it's seeping through our border here. I met a mother who lost her daughter to fentanyl. She was 17 years old and she died in July she thought she was taking a sleeping aid and never woke up the next morning. And so when we talk about the cartels, they're moving and people say, no, they're not coming in, no, they are in this country. They are in this country they're moving around. The people they're paying them billions of dollars. People are, I mean, they are, we need to shut them down. We have shut down the border. We need to close the border. We need to president of the United States to do his job and enforce the laws on the book. And that's why people aren't indifferent between a way I'm talking to voters. They're telling me Kathy. We have an unsecure border. The border is broken, priced out of control, and we don't even have doctors for the 9 counties that are do not have doctors. And with this with the influx of people that working in this district, there are even on the border, it's not fair to the communities that we're having to deal with the impact of this crisis. The administration will talk about it. We have a border Kamala who will not visit the southern border. We have a secretary of mayorkas who has belittled and men and women in green. And I think we have a congressman who was corrupt and it's time for him to step down to move along and lost someone who is going to properly represent this district. And that's why we talk about that shift. This district when he is a toss up right now. People are looking at the pertain my race. Danielle D'Souza Gill Weighs in on School Choice in Texas
"Danielle, let's talk a little bit about school choice. There was a very important law passed in Arizona. Not just an experimental school choice program, but one that offers school choice. To the entire, to all the parents in Arizona who have their kids in school and now I see an article in the Dallas news majority of Texan voters favor school voucher programs, according to a recent poll, and it looks like there is a movement of parents around the country very unhappy with the public schools want to have at least an alternative, of course the unions, the public schools are pushing back. They obviously won a monopoly because everyone succeeds when you have a monopoly. People have nowhere else to go. What do you think about this moment? Is this something that you think has the potential to not only change the political landscape, but also change education? Yes, school choice is definitely the future because why should someone be trapped in a horrible public school just because you were born in a zip code, that's not a nice area. That's horrible. And that's not really something that conservatives should stand for. We want everyone to have opportunity and then for people to succeed based on their hard work, not for people to be trapped in a horrible school while other people have a much better public school. And you know, many of these public schools are bad. Most of them actually are far behind, you know, students and other countries, China is taking off. And of course, with COVID, we saw these crazy shutdowns. And so these other schools that are doing well a couple of public schools that are doing great. Those may stay open because people will want to use their vouchers there. Those are good schools. They have good teachers. So it's not to say that every school is bad, but the ones that are really underperforming, there's violence, there's crime, kids don't even want to go to that school. They don't feel safe there. Why should those schools continue onward? Those parents should have other options to send their kids to a better school, and they shouldn't be, you know, held back just because they don't have the funds.
Ryan Shazier Relives the Tackle That Left Him Paralyzed
"This situation, I never thought about like, hey, how am I going to tackle anybody? I always was like, I'm going to hit them and you know, they fall how they make. You know, so in this situation I try to put my head across and actually avoid hitting it with my head and when this happened, he was running a little bit faster than I thought he was. And when I put my head out, my head here is acting to his hip and cause me to fracture my very worrying about. What did it feel like? You're now one minute you're the best player. I'm a brag for you, but you're the leader in the on your defense. You're the best player on the field. You're having the best game on the field. And a second later, you're on your back. Can you not move at all? And are you starting to go, oh, something major just happened here? Yeah, so in that moment, I was pretty much paralyzed from the waist down. And in my head, I was thinking more of like, oh, this is a stinker. So people that playing football before a stinger is if you talk with somebody, you hit them with your shoulder, your shoulder feels numb. And it's like almost burning like a stinging sensation. That's why it's called a stinger. But it's like, no, but eventually comes back, like most football players had to spend before. So I thought it was like, all right, I'm having somewhere like a stinger, but just for my legs. You know, so I was thinking that at first and I was kind of into now. And then they came and started poking on my legs. And when they were poking on my legs, I really couldn't feel anything. And I was like, are you like, do you feel that? I'm like, you're not touching me. You know? So it kind of scared me. And then they put me on the cover on the gurney and then into the ambulance. And my daughter was with me the whole time, and I just kept asking the questions. I'm like, how long am I gonna be hurt? Would I be playing again? Would I be ready in, you know, for Christmas because I remember that we were playing the Houston Texas and Christmas and I was in my family like my wife's family from Texas. So I was really looking forward to that game. So it was like a lot of the stuff going on and I kept asking questions about like, when am I going to be okay? Am I going to be okay? Am I going to be okay? And it was more like, am I going to be okay? I'm not going to walk again. It's more like, all right, how soon do you think I'm going to be able to play football game? Because now me actually not Ryan, even with your teammates around you because I was watching that game. It was Monday Night Football. I could recall, was not. It was Monday Night Football game. Yeah, it was. Yeah. I was watching the game and you could tell by the announcers. When they came back from commercial, like, oh no. And then the guys on your team were around you. And you could see some of them praying. And I saw some of them talking to you. And I remember my heart rate's changing right now. I'm not kidding you actually remembering this. And it's not even me. It was you. But you're saying even in that moment, you're not thinking, nah, I'm not going to walk again. You're thinking, I got to get back to the Texans game, even in that moment. Because I was just like, I'm pretty glad I knew in my head that I'm hurt pretty bad, but I'm like, all right. I'm gonna figure this out. I'm probably gonna be back in like two, three weeks,
Russell Wilson leads sloppy Broncos past Texans 16-9
"The Broncos trudged their way to a 16 9 win over the Texans Russell Wilson overcame a slow start and a cascade of booze in his Denver debut He completed just 6 of his first 20 passes but he was four for four on Denver's go ahead scoring drive Capped by a 22 yard TD pass to Eric saubert I've won a lot of football games in my career in the National Football League and not every one of them is easy But all that matters at the end of the year is there's a W at the end of that column Wilson finished 14 of 31 for 219 yards The Broncos never allowed a TD forcing the Texans to settle for three field goals I'm Dave ferry
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot: 'We Welcome Texans to Chicago'
"Lori Lightfoot, the mayor of Chicago where people are gunned down and shot in the highest gun control city in the United States blaming Abbott for racism for moving these people the same way President Biden's done for months. Texas, obviously, if none of these migrants were sent anywhere else would have to bear all the bread of this themselves are these migrants better off going to places like Chicago, welcoming cities to get cared for. Well, I think alderman reboots kind of alluded to this. I'm happy to take and drain Texas of all of its residents. I wouldn't want to live in a state with a governor like that. I certainly want to want to live in a state where they are doing everything they can to strip people of their basic rights and let's not forget about what they've done to women and others who are seeking reproductive healthcare. So we welcome Texans to Chicago. And we'll rent a buses next time. To bring them here. That is a great idea. Mayor lightfoot, why don't you start sending the buses down, let them load them up, let you pay the bill for them moving these illegal aliens from Texas to Chicago. And by the way, maybe mayor of New York and the mayor of D.C. will do the same things because they're just getting a small portion of the millions of illegals that have come across the border during the time that President Biden has been claiming that the border is secure. His Homeland Security chief my York is claiming the border is secure. And yet 2 million people coming across and being schlepped around the country by the Biden administration and now they're protesting when a few thousand are taken to Chicago, taken to New York and taken to Washington D.C.. Browns QB Deshaun Watson settles for 11-game suspension
"It's a settlement with the NFL following accusations of sexual misconduct by two dozen women while Watson was with the Houston Texans I'm moving on with my career in my life and I'm continuing to stand on my innocence Just because settlements and things like that happen doesn't mean that a person is guilty for anything The NFL wanted a one year suspension Watson was accused of sexually harassing and coercing the women during massage therapy sessions To this whole process we've been trying to tell my side of the story But a lot of people wasn't able to I didn't really pay too much attention to it but one day we will only time will tell Watson was also fined $5 million and will have to be evaluated by behavioral experts and follow an NFL treatment program I'm Ed Donahue

"Field, stays on the practice field is able to get the reps, I mean, look, I don't think he's gonna be in all pro this season or pro bowler. I don't even know if he's gonna start for this team this year. But he has potential to be a starter. I think at left or right tackle, sometime soon, if he keeps developing and he his feet were unbelievable, he you can make the argument that he's one of the most athletic tackles that they've had in recent years. I think that Nate soldier was a pretty good athlete. I think that could just has better feet than solar did, soldiers a little bit more powerful. But when I see just out there, I see Michael orr from the ravens. I mean, that's what he looks like to me and Michael orr was a Pro Bowl level right tackle. I think that Ted Keras did a lot for himself in this game. He even cooked up a couple pancakes. I love it. Syrup on my pancakes in the morning. Steady teddy was really good in this game and you know that he's tough as hell. Not the most athletic guy. But I think he put himself in a mix. So I think with those two guys and I think Haran did Haran did well in this game. He did much better for him. So maybe he's a better left than he is right. I don't know. I was gonna ask you that I think that those guys could just cares and her on have now put some of the starters on notice and, you know, when you're talking about when you're talking about a wenu that if they don't get their butts in gear if they don't raise up a level and play where they're supposed to be playing, then they're going to be put on the bench because the Patriots have other options now. All right, there's one thing I wanted to ask you about. Actually, two things quickly, they kind of go hand in hand. First of all, your thoughts on Josh McDaniels play calling in the red zone and his play calling after the punt debacle by Houston. I still don't know what the hell that was about. But McDaniels, I thought, you know, it's time to give Mac the keys in the red zone. It's time to, you know, allow your quarterback to do more that the three straight screen passes was absurd. There's just some of these calls, you know, running on first and second down and getting stuck in third and long and then running a simple play on third down. That's not going to get you the I mean, there's some of these things. Again, big picture, I think McDaniels put this team in this offense in a position to succeed on Sunday. I just have issues with that red zone area Greg. And some of these sudden changes of possession, the.

"Book for over 25 years. Greg, we got to talk about this, Houston, Texans game. It was awful in the first half. It was better in the second half. I want to start with three things that you feel better or at least good about. Yeah, so let's just start with the passing offense in general, Nick. I did I did feel well actually, let's make number one just the offense in general because I think that I think that they're performance has been sort of undersold. I think that I think that they were efficient. It wasn't perfect and we know this. And we know the deal with the offensive line going in and we'll get to those guys. But I mean, you're talking about an offense, and they are going against Texans, I understand. And I don't just look at, you know, who they're playing and in the bottom line production. I look at other things like, you know, basically, are they executing? Are they executing better? Because when things don't work in football, it's because the players are not executing. People love to talk about play calling in this and that. But they're just really, are they blocking the guy in front of them? Are they running the right route? Are they catching the ball? Is the quarterback making the right decision? So look, the Patriots, you know, get the ball after the defense can never get off the field and for first quarter. They go ten plays for touchdown. The next drive, they go 8 plays and Damian Harris fumbles on, look, I thought it was a crappy call. I mean, I don't know, even on the all 22, it's not clear where he fumbles. To me, he I don't know how you overrule the call in the field, but I'm not really, I'm not one to complain about officiating calls. Before halftime, they do go 9 plays 42 yards getting position for a field goal. Jacoby Myers drops that pass. Yeah. That there was one there was one defender there. I doubt that he scores, but I do think he gets inside, say the 15 yard line at least. And now you're talking about maybe they have a chance. There's plenty of time on. So I think there was like about 50 seconds left when that pass happened. So now you're talking about an opportunity.

"This is the Greg bedard patriots podcast with Nick cabins powered by bet U.S.. All right, so before we get started, I think we'd be remiss if we did not congratulate the Boston Red Sox on getting to the ALCS, both Greg and I are big baseball guys. Congratulations to the Red Sox. Greg, did you think there was any chance this team was gonna make it this deep? Past the Yankees, yes. The rays, I thought it was going to be a long series. I thought it was going to go down to it. But this is a team that before the season I had to dig out my tweet, but I said something, I think it was on opening day. I was like, I think there's I think there's a little something to this team. You know, I was definitely excited about this team. You know, I'm a big Alex core fan. So I think that whatever the patriots, whatever the Red Sox might not have on paper, I think that he can make up for it sort of similar to Belichick. I hold Alice in that sort of level of head coach, you know, I think that what he's done with the Red Sox in a short time two trips World Series title now I think is almost Belichick in. And so I was I was high on them not high, but I was expecting more than a lot of people were. And, you know, look, they stumbled down the stretch in the regular season, but I still thought that they were a good team and I think that I think this is another this series with the rays Nick is another example of Moneyball just doesn't work in the postseason. It works for it's designed by computer nerds over a 162 games. And it works for you, but it's really hard to win, it's really hard to win much in the postseason because it gets shrunken down and the smaller the series, the tougher it is. And I think the numbers go out the window and a guy like Alex Cora and when you pluck players.

"As always by Alex barth and Alex, the title of today's show says it all. And this is where I want to start and you can decide, do we go with the positive takeaways from Sunday's game first or the negatives because this was an ugly game for about 34 35 minutes for the Patriots. They end up closing it out with a comeback victory over the Houston Texans in a comeback that felt totally necessary to save their season. You can't drop the one in four. So the Patriots save their season by coming back against Houston, but certainly a lot of negative takeaways from this game as well. Well, let's put it this way. We said all week that the Celtics were gonna have to escape from Houston with an ugly win. They escaped from Houston with an ugly win. Over the last two weeks, did I say Celtics? You did. I wasn't gonna. We were talking about the new Celtics floor before this. I'm sorry. We said our week, the Patriots were going to have to escape Houston with an ugly win. They came to Houston with another win. Over the last two weeks, the Patriots have put together one winning effort in one not so winning effort. They're one and one with those games. In those games, everything is going exactly the way we say. Don't look any deeper than that. I guess it ended up spear away. We can say that. I want to start with positives because I'm in a decent mood today. And let's start with the positives. And then we can get into some of the negatives. The biggest positive takeaway on the authentic side of the football for the Patriots. I guess you could go either way with that. One I think what you continuously see from Mac Jones is really encouraging. And I wrote my film review, took some shots at some people that are trying to downplay what we've seen from The Rookie quarterback through 5 starts because ultimately, I think that a lot of these people that are saying that what mat Jones is doing is not good enough or not impressive or they don't want to crown them yet..

"So the question really boils down to now is knowing that there are likely going to be down multiple starters on the offensive line is how do you still move the ball on offense with a patchwork offensive line? I mentioned the stats for the Texans against the run. 31st in dvor against the run 28th against play action passes from an analytics perspective. That's the way that you move the football on the Texans is to get under center, put the fullback in the backfield, run it on their four three over, and then put hit play action down the field. That's how teams have had success really for the last two seasons against this Texans defense. Now, there is the Mac Jones is better in the shotgun spread and we've been certainly banging that drum all season long. So there is that element of it too. Now the Texans are to me they're one of the most predictable defensive schemes that I've watched all year long..

"I'm Evan Lazar joined as always by Alex barth and Alex. We got a bunch of things to talk about today before we get into the game against the Houston Texans, the Patriots. Obviously, there's so much to get into in that game. The Patriots obviously traveling down to Houston on Sunday for a game against the lowly Texans. So we will discuss the game here in a bit, but we want to start with some of the bigger picture topics that happened on the team this week. Mainly beginning with the Stefan Gilmore trade in the Stefan Gilmore trade fallout here. I wanted to discuss quickly the sports radio topic right now Alex is about Bill Belichick and maximizing assets, right? And his failure in a couple of different instances over the last couple of years to get the most out of his good veteran players. Guys like Gilmore, I certainly somebody like Jimmy Garoppolo's name comes up every single time. We get into this conversation. So there's that angle of it, and there's also the angle of the domino effect on the Patriots defense and where the paths go from here, specifically, I would say with JC Jackson, but starting with the maximizing assets conversation. The Gilmore situation, I feel is very different than some of the other situations that people are comparing it to. And I'll tell you why in a second. But first and foremost, going back to Jimmy G, Brady's name has been thrown out there. Gronk's name has been thrown out there. To me, those situations were different because Bill Belichick was hanging on to those players to win football games with those players. And in a way I think he did the same thing was to find Gilmore as well. Bill clearly is prioritizing having those players on his football team for as long as possible over maximizing trade value more than the public that wants to come out and say, they should have gotten more for Jimmy G, or they shouldn't have led Tom Brady walk and only get a comp pick back. Clearly Belichick cared more about sucking a dry with Brady for as long as humanly possible than a trading the greatest quarterback of all time to get a first round pick back instead of a third round pick. And I don't really blame him for that. With the Gilmore situation, what I blame him for on this or second guess on this is not, I guess overrating his team, right?.

That's gonna come out in a few hours here. The thing that really is kind of a question here is are the texans going to be able to run the ball in short yard situation and they were not doing that. Very effectively Whenever you saw them platoon three y three tight ends at once marking room. The only one getting ball at that time and most of the time whenever it was third one or or in the goal line situations they were getting stuff on all of them. I mean he had. I believe it was four carries for you. Know or five carries for four yards in those situations got stopped on a third-down couldn't punch it in the goal line. Sometimes that that's going to be one of the biggest issues here because this is the jaguars. Defense such struggle lately and they had to restructure the entire front and they had to manufacture those yards short yardage situations to be able to get the minimal yards that they were able to there. If you're if you're going to found the offense on a ground game to open up everything else whenever you get in those situations. They're going to your guys not able to do it. That's going to be a problem And you know tyrod. Taylor did get away with a couple of throws mean. It's very first throw was authority out outside. That almost got ticked off like they were instances that they played clean football. But are they going to be able to overcome those things whenever they're not picking up first down whenever there are..

"The texans like thirty to one to win the division if that if that comes out there like what's the extreme of the neighborhood center applying if if watson is gonna play like something comes out that like likely that this is going to be held up until february watson's gonna play this year goodell's knocking suspend him under whatever caused it is and we could see watson actually play this year for houston i man. You're talking about a situation. that's so like narrow. I think it's quite possible. We go into the season thinking that he will play. But we're never going to know that it's like definitely season. Because i just feel like the commissioner hammer is gonna drop at any time if we get to that point right like it's such a pipe dream thing to be like commissioner says definitely not like next week would have to be when this happens. Commissioner goodell says definitely no punishment for watson this year. He has free to play the entire season. Basically i just want the optics of that are horrific. That's never gonna happen. I think it's at least gonna linger if anything and to be like. You're not wrong but like they have they've bungled stuff like this. Oh sure but it would be a bungle. I think we agree on. That wouldn't be like this. Be our tactical cincinnati rats. Yes so i think it's just like the watson positive outcomes cloud things if it's if it's possible that you could receive word that he was going to play the entire season i do think thirty two one is like i mean people are gonna laugh but like that's how crazy it is. I mean. what would you rank him among starting quarterbacks right now in the league like ish me like tier six to seven that okay if you have a guy in that tier no matter what the roster is around him. The team can win the division. And we'll just can't actually at one point one percent chance right there. It's a combination of that and the price. Like if i tell you that and then you're like they're two to one. Okay then. i'm not interested thirty two one. Okay let yes like. We have to leave that door open. If we could ever find out that he was going to play all seventy beco-. Kim barkley monday going over the houston texans betting markets here again at bet reversed worst record plus two twenty five win total four and a half thirty to one to win the afc south just great worst record price by the way that's like an outstanding compared to the market like that's your in houston worst record like that was the first stop right now but lots of stop land man also two hundred fifty bucks. "Pro football season is inching closer. And we're breaking down all the bidding ingles for every team in the least robinson ethics. It's the mr win. Totals to futures. We've got you covered two days on you better like that. To show on watson island is better than anyway to taylor watching. Just berber taylor goes out to go to midfield before. The game starts the teams out to the field punctured. What what does your guys. I like i like that. That's because like better quarterback gets the play and maybe the greatest mature got davis mills stanford light. It's like rick. What would that say is tyrod taylor puncture but just an urban warming up on the sidelines that it was all right so because of tens pesky appendix that what itself i mean you wanna talk selfish. That appendix is really selfish because of that appendix which is now gone To it as of now become three on the show so three. Nfl teams as we have the mad sprint to the finish by the way off on friday man sprint to the finish here to get all these. All these teams end before books cowboys thursdays night next thursday. So three teams coming up today. Texans broncos and right now the jacksonville jaguars year one for urban meyer year. One trevor lawrence travis. Ctn done for the season. Unfortunately that stinks. The team traded gardner menchu to the philadelphia eagles. This weekend which is interesting on a variety of levels. Maybe we'll get into that here. Maybe not doubt. Jake lewd the backup quarterback and cj beathard as well behind trevor lawrence in that jaguars quarterback jaguars win total six. And a half. Plus one ten to the over minus one thirty four to the plus seven fifty to win the afc south plus three. Oh five to make the postseason. The jaguars two and a half point road. Favorites at the texans coming up in week one trevor lawrence plus three hundred a rookie of the year. Four thousand one hundred fifty and a half passing yards twenty four and a half touchdowns twelve and a half interceptions and then bunch of receiving props. I would like to touch on some of those thoughts. But i can't your season-long betting breakdown or week one or both been trevor and the jaguars. We can definitely do week one as we go because we have talked about that game a fair amount already with with houston jacksonville. Yes season-long wise. I alluded to with brad evans in our interview. Just have a really hard time figuring out like which extreme outcome is more likely. I think this is one of the most extreme outcome of teams in the league this year. And i'd be curious. Maybe think of think of if you think. I have more possible. Extreme outcomes in terms of number of wins they could have offense philly philly. Those are the two that came to mind immediately. We're philly and jacksonville as just like two or twelve. I mean that's like it's really got rain just kind of like where we're at right now. Would you put the dolphins in there. I don't think the dolphins can ever be that bad but like maybe they're range. Maybe you think they're upper range of so good that i also i also don't think the jaguars can ever be that bad upriver. Lawrence's the quarterback for thirteen games. Yeah i i don't know i i. I think they could just be awful. Because it's just like a weird mix of and look and we right peyton manning one thousand nine hundred and thirteen troy aikman thousand nine hundred nine with elbows. Goes one in fifteen..

Thank you for your reporting. And i have a feeling. We'll be talking again before too long. Thanks for having me on as the story continues to change.

"John the short answer is we don't know the nfl doesn't know to shawn. Watson doesn't know and the texans don't know that's our own sara barshop on outside the lines acknowledging just a few of the unknowns in the disturbing saga of deshaun watson but that number twenty two as in the twenty. Two active lawsuits filed by twenty. Two different women is why those questions have only just begun today. Why the f. b. i. is involved in this case. Why watson's accusers say the. Nfl is asking the wrong questions. And why the superstar quarterback is still showing up to work for a team that he wants to escape. I'm pablo torre. it's monday. August twenty third. This is espn daily. Sarah barshop. you're our houston. Texans beat writer. Thanks for coming back on. Espn daily thanks for having me back. So the texans won their game saturday. They beat the cowboys. Twenty two fourteen. We're going to talk more about how the teams looked in a football context and a bed but the most notable fact of the entire proceeding. Sarah is the fact that texans quarterback to shawn did not play was surprising to you at all now. It wasn't because right now. The texans are kind of acting for the most part that he's not really part of this team in terms of him being on a football field in playing in a game and david kelly. When he talks about the quarterbacks he's mostly talking about the other quarterbacks on the roster. I mean they really. Don't talk about shawn watson in football context so he didn't play in the first game against the packers he didn't play against the cowboys and i'd be surprised to see him in the preseason finale against the buccaneers david kelly. Of course the new head. Coach of the texans sarah and yes to shawn watson sat out against the packers. The texans had one that preseason game also for whatever that's worth twenty six to seven but watson and how the team talks about him and his absences. How would you characterize how they do that. It's very much avoiding the topic. And from the very beginning. David kelly if he heard john watson's name really kinda of deflected the question and would say not much has changed. Or there's nothing new with watson even if that wasn't really an applicable answer to the question nothing new on the sean nothing new today on and last week for the first time. He talked about watson more and elaborated on him. Johnson here Again every day. He's here to in works he does. He does what we asked him to do. And you know he's here today but it was never really in a way of okay. He's gonna play in these games. So what we talked about with you on this show back in march. Sarah is still true today. Which is that. The shawn watson faces more than twenty lawsuits filed against him for sexual misconduct and sexual assault. That is the story here. There is a separate criminal investigation. That's going on involving several of the same women in those lawsuits but just to clarify for everybody. Here shawn watson still has not been arrested on any criminal charges and so he is allowed to play into practice. Is that how all of this works. Basically at right and for training camp the nfl came out with a statement. Basically saying we done some investigating into this but we haven't completed our investigation and deshaun watson is eligible to take part in all team activities and the texans first of all didn't really know if he was going to report training camp. They weren't sure the night before. They weren't really sure that saturday night and when he did report they still thought maybe the nfl with them. Put them on. The commissioner's exempt list before training camp practices. Actually start in. That didn't happen yet from a four sarah. All of this looks not just awkward but deeply uncomfortable for everyone involved shawn watson included his employers included. And i'm just watching from afar. But it's hard to avoid the fact that this is a star quarterback who was very publicly famously wanting out of the houston texans and so the idea that this same quarterback who is now facing more than twenty lawsuits for sexual misconduct and assault is showing up reporting to training. Camp i mean what were the consequences. If he didn't do that because it sounds like he kind of had to write. How do you not reported. He would have been fined. Fifty thousand dollars per day of training camp and this is a little different under this new. Cba that fine can't be forgiven by teams so we've seen in the past where someone would hold out. There was on a new contract or the issue is resolved and those fines would be forgiven. That's not the case with watson. And so he felt the need to show up so he's not fine. So here's the shawn watson showing up to practice but doing so kinda sporadically. It seems like like he's there some days he's not there other days or maybe he is but he's somewhere that reporters like you cannot see him. Maybe sarah just walk me through a day of covering this team. What that's like for you because you show up on site. What's the scene like in terms of the media gathered here covering the story what happens so day one of training camp. It was a very large media group. I don't know how many people thought he would actually be there and be reporting but there is media to see whether he would be and since then. It's been a lot of local media. I think the attention is kind of died down even though the story has changed a lot during camp while when colley talks before practice and said he's not gonna address whether anyone is practicing it kind of avoids that question until the next morning availability so we talked to david kelley and then i usually walk over to where i can see the players entrance and we can see the players. Walk down the steps and into the practice field. Keep an eye out for shawn watson. i'll usually take video or photo as he walks by oppose that video and then i'll update twitter. Say whether he is. They're not and then i'll walk over to the other practice field in watch the quarterback's throw in the started practice. And so that's how we get a moment like the one last week. I presume sarah where he snapped at reporters because obviously the media does have this lingering curiosity about whether he's even going to be there on any given day right and i think because the story has changed so much right. It's not like he's been there every single day and there's a video of walking every single day that's not the case. We are there to see if he's practicing and so as we were recording he walks by and says. Why are you guys recording. It's the same thing every day. And he walked off into the bubble and didn't seem too happy and that was the first time he had spoken to us at all during training camp and really since the end of last season so just to be clear than it is not the same thing every single day. It's actually quite the opposite as you have experienced it. Yes absolutely and it seems that it's followed some sort of pattern because for week one. He took part in all four practices week to he didn't take part at least where we were standing for any of them the third week he was there for all four and then the fourth week which was last week. He didn't take part in any practices with his teammates. But on thursday we did see him on the side field stretching in working out with a trainer during practice. And sir what is he wearing in terms of wearing his uniform wearing the red. Don't hit me on a quarterback jersey. What is this whole thing. Look like so those two weeks weeks one in three of training camp. He has been dressed the same way as teammates although he has had that red jersey on when we saw him last thursday when he was just working out on the side field he was just workout. Clothes was not dressed to participate in practice. The one thing collie did tell us last week. Was that deshaun. Watson is getting his work done he said just. Because you're not.

"Sports. Talk seven ninety. We will continue this. The shawn watson talk and you guys can take where you want to now that he showed up for training camp which i suggested on friday that he should or would do on our morning show pre before he did it. Because i didn't think i mean why wouldn't you. Nothing prevents you from showing up to camp. Don't get fined. Don't cut off your nose spite your face. Show up make them deal with it and get rid of the fine fifty grand as that gets hefty. That's a lot of money. No matter how much money you make and here he is now. It sits solely on what the texans are going to do. They know he doesn't wanna be there but he's there to your practice or do you not try to trade him which there's talk that they are now open to trading him. What's the commissioner to do. What's going on with the legal. And when all is settled as the shawn watson still want to be there and even if he's not traded and he's not and he's allowed to go to camp even though he doesn't wanna be there will he just decide to keep playing and keep collecting a paycheck and doing his thing until they decide to do one thing or another with them and until he decides i'm done but apparently if they run them out there with reps during camp will he show up if nothing's done and opening day starter for the houston texans if nothing else changes between now.

"So you guys see the dilemma. We got a little development by the way. It's just come out. That the sean is is it mean by by being there is put the texans and so what kind of development we got So tom hello sarah Nfl network just tweeted this out minute ago literally minute ago. He said the texans are now willing to listen and have been for some time to trade offers for star quarterback to shawn watson more multiple sources. Tell me and rap sheet. Ian rapoport says but the price is high for a player of his calibre and should be it likely take at least three first round..

"We talked about playing the hand before camp. It's sitting right there. You can't get him reps if you're starting quarterback and you'd think going to be here because he's got to get ready to with a bunch of new cats on the football team if you don't run out or if you do run them out there and then three weeks into he still wants out. And he's not gonna show the commissioner comes down or something else happens. What do you do with. How do you get ready for game on this team. Needs all the frigging work. It can get so wallets. Say i know what excitement. And it's gonna be exciting week on twitter. And everybody talking about the shawn watson. And what's going on the astros and the rockets and the texans and to sean now adds to that. It's also a critical time for the texans decision making if you play him every day in camp and he's getting work you are an essence telling the guys he's our quarterback and we plan on starting and that'll answer all your questions until the commissioner comes down but you owe it to your.

We'll we'll read it next next week. So let's get into the fake tuck rule because that's the next big play here. it is. Yeah because yeah. The patriots hit the field goal to start to quarter and then texas tech immediately go three pundit and so new england again drive straight down. The field like david like brady tries a didn't a couple of times a game but he tried to sneak on third like five and the last time you got ticked up seven and this time. He picked up four three. So it's four and two and the largest run it straight down. The texans throat with kevin faulk who picks up. This isn't that they're just getting big chunk. Plays three yards twelve yards three yards yards yard or yard sung again. It's like the offense is just barely screening it to get that but it kind of felt inevitable to pick up steam and just only because the texans offense was absolute hot garbage hot. It was meant for turnovers. They would not like zero points. We haven't been able to actually do anything. Maybe get a field goal but because we've been keeping him in a game. They've been just taken advantage of capitalizing when they've been given some which. I think the the were kind of looting to. That's kind of how this team was running. Which is true and there were there were next week. You got the colts. The who also into her but there were yeah they were they were just like hanging with teams because they good defense and then try to capitalize on mistakes..

He was in this game five hundred for his career. So this'll be the last time it'd be five hundred right. Sure because you'll never 'cause he goes on his massive win streak and he'll never lose them in a row so Not only was he five hundred but he was sixty nine sixty nine. Ooh nice so so. Yeah i mean you can watch this game just for that. If you want times damon that stack comes up in our question tonight. Screenshot and i'm like i did go back and find out how the highlights on the website true. It should be right after that. The possession. Tom brady throws a stupid pick. It's our twenty nine so like if the patriots added just play like a bunch of assholes would've won the game easily but they just turned it over and terrible times on so lucky killed drives and just let the texans hang around and actually take a pretty good lead right so instead of like putting the game way. They're like the the each side of the half score. A couple points in the middle there and being up by a couple of scores because they went into the halftime ten three could been thirteen three and then like score. Get on the second half now. Europe by t. scores instead picked off. Texans start at the patriots eleven. I think it was like two plays later. Under johnson and a touchdown so now it's game ten ten good about themselves but then brady in true brady. Fashion gets the ball back in storms. Right down the field again in like fuck you mode. This is where he hits. J stokes to get inside the ten yard line one yard bomb. Yeah that was that was j j stokes snapdragon siding. Yeah of the game. It's going into brady sack on third down the last player the third quarter so fourth quarter starts viteri hitting a short field goal which actually makes so off the schneide again kind of an hour in the fourth quarter and this is where ships kinda of goes a little wild because it's ten ten at the end of the third in this game ends twenty. Three twenty in overtime left in overtime right so and vegetarian just kicked a field goal to make it thirteen ten. Just this quarter. You know you don't need to see. Yeah that's what i'm saying. So skip to the fourth quarter. We'll talk you through all of it you should. We should mark what time that starts so does get the video started.
