He also owns and operates while on martial arts academy. Hollywood Brazilian jiu-jitsu. And we're here to talk about a film, a new film coming out this week, April 14th. Called nefarious. John Patrick, welcome to the podcast great to have you. Thank you. And let's talk a little bit about Hollywood first. You're a Texas kid. Who went to Hollywood? What got you there? Well, I went to university of Saint Thomas and I was studying business with focus on law and I saw the most beautiful girl I've ever seen at the time leaving a building. And I did what any red blooded Texan does. He goes to the school administration office and he drops an English class to sign up for whatever they're teaching that building. And that's true story. And in the building was the theater department. And so I fell in love with acting. And I wrote a piece of children's theater and I decided, after school, I was going to drive out to LA and I was going to try and produce that play. And then an agent could I submit you on some commercials? And I said, yeah, if it supplements my writing career, then I got a handful of those and she goes, let me submit some theatrical, which means TV and movie. And I said, absolutely, if it supplements my writing group. Next thing I know I was on a plane to go do young Indiana Jones and the acting kind of took over.

Texan declared innocent in slaying now arrested in another
"A Houston man exonerated in 2021 after serving 7 years in prison for a fatal stabbing has been charged with another murder. Houston police say lie del Gran is accused of killing a fellow motorist following a minor traffic collision Thursday night. They said grant got out of his vehicle and shot at win our valo. In 2012, grant was convicted of killing a man who was stabbed outside a Houston bar, but was exonerated in 2021 after DNA found on the victim's fingernails pointed to his innocence. Another man eventually pled guilty to that murder. The innocence project of Texas, which had worked to get grant exonerated, said in a statement, its thoughts and sympathies go out to the victim's family in Thursday's shooting. I'm Julie Walker.

I've matched with on dating apps. It's like hot and heavy in the beginning, you're just like texting back and forth as witty and it's like all this banter and then it just keeps going and you're like how much wittier can we get? This is just getting very exhausting. Texan gets very exhausting when you're texting someone you don't know. And I think it depends on the stage too. Like if you're on the dating app stage and you're texting them and it doesn't seem to ever be going into a date. I think you can just say something like, hey, I feel like this conversation would be better for in person. Do you want to meet up sometimes? Yeah. Or do you want to meet up if you want to even be more bold next week? What days work for you? That's what I would do. And if they weren't receptive, then you cut it because there's only so much longer you can talk to a complete stranger, right? Like someone you've never met before. I think the one to two day ones. Those are a little trickier, but at the same time, it's like we don't know each other that well. Why can't this move? I mean, if you want to be a little more empathetic, you could even say like, hey, is there something going on in your life right now that's causing you not to be able to meet up? I was really down to keep getting to know you, but it seems like for whatever reason we're not on the same page with that. Like it doesn't need to be confrontational, but I think not being afraid to ask it is going to save a lot of time for you than just getting wrapped up.

Well, I've got some meetings Monday with some large ranch owners and such and we're going to probably have some more places coming through that. I won't know until Monday. My guys are slow rolling. It'll be over this weekend. That, you know, the fitness working up this week and getting at your stuff and then we'll start rolling in. I'm getting my admin team in and immediate site security came in first, so that we can get that going. I will let you eat your number. So I can get everybody to meet up this weekend. NFL Says All Teams Must Add Minority Offensive Coach
"NFL is now requiring every team to have a minority coach in a key offensive role. According to the NFL, turns out that recently the head coaches in the NFL have come from the offensive side of the ball and there is in the view of the NFL and insufficient number of minorities occupying these kinds of positions. Aside from the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, there is one other black coach, his name is lovey Smith, Texans just hired him. And the dolphins hired a man named Mike mcdaniel, who is biracial, one of his parents, it's white, one of his parents is black. So what I wanted to do is also I didn't mind tackling race, but I wanted to do it through quotes, not opinion. And racist never left the news, Black Lives Matter is raging at the time. And then you have you have a situation where as late as Condoleezza and rice Condoleezza Rice on the view, having to defend herself growing up in a Jim Crow south who knew all about racism, but grew up as his conservatives says, don't ever let it be an excuse. So I said, what have I talk about their parallel lives to the degree in which they read a lot of the same books? Did they overcame incredible obstacles? Nothing like Frederick Douglass. I get it. The guy was enslaved until he was in his 20 years old, two tries, got out in the second time within 7 years has a biography. It's a bestseller, and then starts a world tour and becomes famous in Scotland, Ireland, Germany, and England. "The owner of the Texans. Cal mcnair used a racist slur at a charity golf tournament back in May. I thought, oh gosh, what did he say? What do you mean? What does that mean? Headline Texans owner Cal mcnair used anti Asian slur. During team golf event, this happened back in May. Cal mcnair wrapping up his remarks with according to a report at bally sports using a racist slur. And I'm thinking, gosh, that's tough. That's hurtful. That's hateful. One witness told a reporter, Michael silver, everyone gashed. Especially the people directly across from him. He and his wife seemed to think it was hilarious. It was dead silent. And then the article goes on to list scandals that his father had been involved in. His late father, who evidently used the phrase, you can't have the inmates running the prison. Referring to player protests about police brutality. I use that expression all the time. You can't have the inmates running the asylum. You can't have the inmates running the prison. I never thought of that as a slur. Or an attack. Certainly not racist. It's an expression that we've used for everybody uses. But back to Cal mcnair, I'm thinking, what did he do to use a terrible name to call you some racial horrible, you know, attack? Here's what he said. In fact, if you're driving, you might want to pull the car over to the side of the road. Because this is awful. You're going to be so shocked. At this monster, Cal mcnair, the owner, of the Texans, you're going to be so mortified, you're going to want him to be lose control of the team. You're going to want him to be incarcerated. I think incarceration is the is so egregious. It's so awful. It's so horrendous. I mean, even a New York newspaper calling this a racist slur. And when you hear it, it's worse than you think. Here's the quote, addressing a crowd of over a hundred. Over a hundred people, gasping. Fainting. Vomiting. Being taken away in the hospital, the hospital, they were so offended by this monstrous villainous evil racist named Cal mcnair. What did he say? Get to it Gallagher? He said, I'm sorry, we couldn't get together last year because of the China virus. That's it.

"Field, stays on the practice field is able to get the reps, I mean, look, I don't think he's gonna be in all pro this season or pro bowler. I don't even know if he's gonna start for this team this year. But he has potential to be a starter. I think at left or right tackle, sometime soon, if he keeps developing and he his feet were unbelievable, he you can make the argument that he's one of the most athletic tackles that they've had in recent years. I think that Nate soldier was a pretty good athlete. I think that could just has better feet than solar did, soldiers a little bit more powerful. But when I see just out there, I see Michael orr from the ravens. I mean, that's what he looks like to me and Michael orr was a Pro Bowl level right tackle. I think that Ted Keras did a lot for himself in this game. He even cooked up a couple pancakes. I love it. Syrup on my pancakes in the morning. Steady teddy was really good in this game and you know that he's tough as hell. Not the most athletic guy. But I think he put himself in a mix. So I think with those two guys and I think Haran did Haran did well in this game. He did much better for him. So maybe he's a better left than he is right. I don't know. I was gonna ask you that I think that those guys could just cares and her on have now put some of the starters on notice and, you know, when you're talking about when you're talking about a wenu that if they don't get their butts in gear if they don't raise up a level and play where they're supposed to be playing, then they're going to be put on the bench because the Patriots have other options now. All right, there's one thing I wanted to ask you about. Actually, two things quickly, they kind of go hand in hand. First of all, your thoughts on Josh McDaniels play calling in the red zone and his play calling after the punt debacle by Houston. I still don't know what the hell that was about. But McDaniels, I thought, you know, it's time to give Mac the keys in the red zone. It's time to, you know, allow your quarterback to do more that the three straight screen passes was absurd. There's just some of these calls, you know, running on first and second down and getting stuck in third and long and then running a simple play on third down. That's not going to get you the I mean, there's some of these things. Again, big picture, I think McDaniels put this team in this offense in a position to succeed on Sunday. I just have issues with that red zone area Greg. And some of these sudden changes of possession, the.

"Book for over 25 years. Greg, we got to talk about this, Houston, Texans game. It was awful in the first half. It was better in the second half. I want to start with three things that you feel better or at least good about. Yeah, so let's just start with the passing offense in general, Nick. I did I did feel well actually, let's make number one just the offense in general because I think that I think that they're performance has been sort of undersold. I think that I think that they were efficient. It wasn't perfect and we know this. And we know the deal with the offensive line going in and we'll get to those guys. But I mean, you're talking about an offense, and they are going against Texans, I understand. And I don't just look at, you know, who they're playing and in the bottom line production. I look at other things like, you know, basically, are they executing? Are they executing better? Because when things don't work in football, it's because the players are not executing. People love to talk about play calling in this and that. But they're just really, are they blocking the guy in front of them? Are they running the right route? Are they catching the ball? Is the quarterback making the right decision? So look, the Patriots, you know, get the ball after the defense can never get off the field and for first quarter. They go ten plays for touchdown. The next drive, they go 8 plays and Damian Harris fumbles on, look, I thought it was a crappy call. I mean, I don't know, even on the all 22, it's not clear where he fumbles. To me, he I don't know how you overrule the call in the field, but I'm not really, I'm not one to complain about officiating calls. Before halftime, they do go 9 plays 42 yards getting position for a field goal. Jacoby Myers drops that pass. Yeah. That there was one there was one defender there. I doubt that he scores, but I do think he gets inside, say the 15 yard line at least. And now you're talking about maybe they have a chance. There's plenty of time on. So I think there was like about 50 seconds left when that pass happened. So now you're talking about an opportunity.

All right, so before we get started, I think we'd be remiss if we did not congratulate the Boston Red Sox on getting to the ALCS, both Greg and I are big baseball guys. Congratulations to the Red Sox. Greg, did you think there was any chance this team was gonna make it this deep? Past the Yankees, yes. The rays, I thought it was going to be a long series. I thought it was going to go down to it. But this is a team that before the season I had to dig out my tweet, but I said something, I think it was on opening day. I was like, I think there's I think there's a little something to this team. You know, I was definitely excited about this team. You know, I'm a big Alex core fan. So I think that whatever the patriots, whatever the Red Sox might not have on paper, I think that he can make up for it sort of similar to Belichick. I hold Alice in that sort of level of head coach, you know, I think that what he's done with the Red Sox in a short time two trips World Series title now I think is almost Belichick in. And so I was I was high on them not high, but I was expecting more than a lot of people were. And, you know, look, they stumbled down the stretch in the regular season, but I still thought that they were a good team and I think that I think this is another this series with the rays Nick is another example of Moneyball just doesn't work in the postseason. It works for it's designed by computer nerds over a 162 games. And it works for you, but it's really hard to win, it's really hard to win much in the postseason because it gets shrunken down and the smaller the series, the tougher it is. And I think the numbers go out the window and a guy like Alex Cora and when you pluck players.

"Play that coverage better than anybody at any level of football and Belichick is so good at coaching that up. So I think they're really just an excellent team at developing corner talent. We've known that, right? Yeah, Stefan Gilmore is a good example of a guy that turned into from a good corner to an elite corner. JC Jackson, Malcolm butler, Jon Jones, I now hopefully Jalen mills. Jalen mills reminds me a lot of Logan Ryan. And I think that people are going to sit there and roll their eyes and think that that's not a compliment, but Logan Ryan's been a solid NFL player for a long long time. So he reminds me a lot of that doesn't have the sticky coverage talent that a guy likes to find Gilmore does, but he's able to be in the area enough at a time, right? He's able to be in phase and connected, often enough that he's not getting absolutely burned. And the Patriots can work around guys with those types of limitations, right? They can work around guys that are in the right position more times than not. And they'll figure out how to not get those guys exposed. So I think that that's really a good synopsis of the secondary. The positives that I took away from this tape from Houston were looking at the defensive front 7, there was actually some good standout play from some of these guys in the front. The front 7 was much better in this game than the second there. Let me put it to you that way. Dante Hightower looked like he's on his way back. That was the best that he's looked so far this year. He was active. He was reading things out quickly. He was physical. He was planning to run the way that we are used to seeing Dante Hightower play the run. Binge twenty four seven of various people who are like you have to understand like these are people who like. Here's a twenty two year old who has devoted a decade to mastering like super mario the lost levels country to or yeah or like you know negative paper boy for gameboy and like that's all he's done for ten years tan like they are one loser or like man you have. You are really good at paperboard. You're really good. And how yeah just the detail oriented nature of these people are just. It's unbelievable but they all play the game at their best at basically they sort of like twenty four seven so definitely watched that twice a year. If there's a new game that's come out that i know i won't have the time to actually buy play like when the final fantasy seven remake came out There are a couple of streamers that gonna play that man. I know i'm not going to. I just no. I'm not going to know. I still haven't beaten cusack like a dragon. I started literally ten months ago. I still have beaten it yet. That's that's really something.
