Charlie Welcomes Teton Capital CEO, David Sokol, To the Show

"Us now is David sokol, one of the most respected economic and financial minds out there has a really important book. America in perspective, defending the American Dream for the next generation, David joins us again. Welcome back, David to the Charlie Kirk show. I'm glad to be here. Thanks for having me, Charlie. So David, kind of for our new listeners and audience kind of bring them up to speed about your book and why you wrote it and I think it's more relevant than ever. Well, fundamentally, Charlie, I had the benefit of being the grandson of immigrants from Poland and my father who was lower income, you know, praised America focused on the American Dream and made it really part of growing up for me. And so I benefited from not having limitations placed on me artificially and I think every other American should. So Adam and I decided there's just been too much polarization and a lack of understanding of the importance of the foundation of this great nation. And that we need to get our citizens back to paying attention or else we're going to lose it. And so that's really the book was intended to be nonpartisan really just trying to get Americans back to understand that the constitution was framed by our founding fathers created this phenomenal not only meritocracy, but freedom based consensus based self healing nation. And that the check to balance this place in that constitution are essential to us keeping the greatness of America. And you know, it's important to always remember as America is in fact a great and extraordinary, but it's also self healing. And it's not perfect. It just happens to be the best system ever developed.

Is This the End of the Cheney Political Dynasty?

"Been a couple families that have ruled American Republican politics over the last couple decades. The Bush family, the McCain's, the rockefellers, the romneys, and the cheneys. They all get along very well, and there's pockets of this country, teton county, Wyoming, otherwise known as Jackson all Wyoming. Can he bunk port Maine? That just seemed to be dominated by that type of Republican Aspen Colorado being in other place as well. Will the McCain establishment in Arizona suffered a major loss two weeks ago. It is hard to see how they'll ever be able to get back to political relevancy in Arizona. Top and bottom all throughout the ballot. The bushes have suffered loss after loss can Paxton soundly defeated. Bush in the attorney general primary race. And tonight, you very, well, might see the end of a political dynasty as far as elected office goes until she runs for Congress in Virginia, which is really her home seat, which I think she'll do very soon. JJ and James Nitties Reminisce About Playing Slow Golf With Tony Romo

"We get there, and I can't remember who was first to hit. I think mitts hit it first, and it was way right. And I hit it infinity right. And Romo hits it. At least as far left as we hit it right to start this thing. And so now we got guys like all over the place. Well, they call each of us to the two to the T, whatever. We do our bullshit, practice swing hit, whatever we do. Flare went out there. They call him, and he's still like, he's on the cart path when they call him to hit. Like, usually all three guys are standing on the T when you're like ready to roll, right? He's on the car path, and he's got, I don't know, it was probably the tightest, the tightest band, whatever it, whatever the tightest band was, the black level. I know there are different colors, but the one where you can barely move your legs apart and he's doing like these hard freaking squats slash kegels slash, I don't know what you call them, but he's going up and down the cart path in a line before he even starts. So no practice doing any rips it off. You know how those things are a pain in the ass to get off anyway, like imagine wearing a golf shoes, like rips it off, then he gets to the first tee and hits it 50 miles left. Well, it was one of those holes, ninny, did you ever think we were going to finish that hole? No, I was like, has there ever been a group that's been put on the clock before they've completed one hole? We was standing up on the grain for at least at least 15 minutes and golf club time. That's so long. And he still had what? He stood and he was and JJ's pacing around. He's like, damn, this is a Connie show already. Oh, my relax mates all right. We're just getting started. He's now waiting for the group to hit off the next hole, which is a par three up right where he is. So now he's taking a drop off the path which he got a rules official took like 15 minutes he hasn't hit yet. We're like, we could have hit putted out. And but we didn't know if he was going to send some meteor over our heads while we were in the middle of the grain. Anyway, so then he finally drives down the fairway after all of this. He's like, hey boys, I'm going to hit now and then drives back over to his ball again. And now we're waiting for him to hit up up and bloody hit it a hundred yards short of the green, then we tip up, we're like this is crazy. So then we chip up, he finally hits it on the green, and now we're all on the grade, probably whatever. I think that teton was 8 24. It's probably like 9 a.m. by now. And then we'll somehow I made my part in JJ made his for a good bogey on the tent and yeah, so that was he too part of it and that was fun.

David Sokol Shares His 'Very American' Story

"A man who's lived the American Dream, understands that we are at a crisis point right now. Chairman and chief executive officer of teton capital and chairman of the board at the Atlas corporation, David sokol, welcome in studio. I'm glad to be here. Thank you, Sebastian. So first, a little bit about yourself. We talk about your book that you've just handed me America in perspective. Thank you kindly. But your story is a very American story, isn't it? Your grandparents right up to now. Yeah, my grandparents were immigrants from Poland and lived in a lower income rural environment in Nebraska and but you know my father professed every day the American Dream and all you've got to do is pick what you want to do and work hard and nobody will get in your way. And so yeah, and that's really the premise of which Adam and I wrote the book, which is to remind people that this is an exceptional country, but we have to maintain its institutions and it checks and balances or we're going to lose it.

Why David Sokol Wrote the Book on 'Defending the American Dream'

"Young people feel as if the American Dream is a fiction. Not all young people, but many young people do, I spend a lot of time on college campuses. I was at Berkeley, I was at CU boulder, this last semester, and they feel as if it's out of grasp. And somebody who is definitely qualified to talk about the American Dream is David sokol. He's the chairman and CEO of teton capital, and he's really a business legend on Wall Street and he has a fabulous new book out called America in perspective, defending the American Dream for the next generation. David sokol joins us right now. Welcome to the Charlie Kirk show. Thank you, Charlie. I appreciate you having me on. So tell us, why did you write the book, you know, trying to save the American Dream, that's quite a task. Yeah, you know, I was a rural lower income kid in my father, his parents were immigrants from Poland. And he always emphasized to us the American Dream. And the reason we're here, the reason we're in this wonderful country is that we're now Americans. And you have to decide what you want to do, but you're going to have to work for it. And I had that opportunity and through a lot of good fortune over the years was able to become a CEO in the early 80s and continue in the energy industry throughout my career. And we've really started losing sight of what's made America great all these years. And it's our foundation, our constitution, it's our foundation as we the people, as our founding fathers put together. And so Adam Brandon and I really felt that it was time these books not about us. I mean, there's a small percentage in there that just describes who we are, but it's really takes us through this capitalistic meritocracy called America. The self healing nation that was formed 246 years ago and how important it is. In fact, the American Dream is alive and well today. And in fact, America is that exceptional nation that we all know it is.

"And I swear to you if God was a painter, that's what he paint. The tetons that I, you know, teton piece, but if you go to my locals account on my Instagram, I put up some of the pictures, locals has pretty much all of them, but I put some up on Instagram and Facebook too. And gosh, Wyoming is just beautiful. It's beautiful. I mean, I love Florida. I love love love Florida. If the weather's amazing, the people are amazing, it's just, I'm kind of a city kid, so I like being around a lot of people. I don't know, it makes me feel a little different. I think I'd be a little uncomfortable full time in a small town. I love small towns. I'll get me wrong. I want to buy a house in one. I've said that often, but I don't know if I can live there. I don't know, my brain needs constant stimulation. It's like a weirdo thing. I don't know. But I love that out there. And the views were just majestic. So I saw that. I went to Jenny Lake. Have you seen Jenny Lake in teton national park grand teton national park? Again, I got the pictures up on my Instagram and my locals account if you want to check them out. The view, it's me, Paula and my daughter, my oldest couldn't make it. She was working, but my ten year old. There's a picture behind me of the mountain behind Jenny Lake to teton mountains. It looks you're gonna swear it's painted. They'd be like, no way, dude, that's not really a Photoshop. I didn't, I don't even know how to Photoshop. Guys, ladies, I'm not that smart. I don't know how to Photoshop Paula knows, but I promise you she didn't Photoshop anything. Jim, did you Photoshop it? He's not. I know he didn't. It's a real picture. Jenny Lake, amazing. And there's another picture. I won't win another couple who I like. I won't say who because I'm afraid you'll try to burn down his business or whatever. But I went with this guy and we did a whitewater rafting and a snake river. And it's pretty amazing. The pictures are really cool. There's just one part. I have like the Burt Reynolds deliverance vest on. Then don't worry, didn't Edwin had Beatty, no one asked anyone to squeal. Thank God. But I had the Reynolds like delivers vesa. And it looks pretty badass. I gotta tell you, and someone took the picture, and it looked pretty BA. I was like, this is cool. So people were like, wow, Dan, you're outdoors. You look at you like the rapids and the one part. We're pretty heavy. No, 'cause I love you, and I never fake the funk, right? Ever, don't do it. The rapids part is only a small part. It's like an hour and a half, two hours of rafting down a river what they call a float, right? Only like 15 minutes of it was rough water. So I don't want you to think like I was doing that the whole time. Because my daughter was with me, and you got to see the face on my ten year old as we hit the white water. Like the real cabs, their face is like, you think she was like three years old watching nightmare on Elm Street. It's like. You got to see the face. It's classic. I had a great time. I posted the picture of my buddy, though. And he took water into face, and he's like, of course, you post a picture of me looking like a chump. I said, well, dude, I'm gonna post another picture if you look like a hero. So that's why there's two snake river pictures. One, he gets water in the face, but I look good. The other one, I'm still a pretty good, I look like Burt Reynolds without the whole Ned BDC. And the guy looks pretty good too, so that's why I posted too. So our old faithful and Yellowstone, which is really awesome. The geyser explodes like every hour and a half. It's amazing. They got this like bacteria that comes out in the water that gives it this like blue and brown hue. Amazing can't recommend it highly enough. Finally, if you're going to go to Yellowstone, you got to go to this artist's peak. If they call it the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, there's another picture of it on my locals and Instagram. I don't even know how to describe it. Thomas Moran painted this famous picture of it. It's this waterfall in the background of these deep canyons. I swear you're gonna be like, dude, there's no way that's real. There is no way that picture's real. And the story, the coup de grace. So we're leaving Yellowstone. Do I have to take a break here? We got a minute. Okay, I know I'm squeezing it but too bad. So we're leaving Yellowstone and we've been there like 5 days and this guide we had was awesome. I'm not gonna say her name 'cause again liberals will terrorize her and try to like have her put in jail or something and Rikers Island after the book and she's trying to show us a bear the whole time and teton park, but it's hard. This is not a lot of bears. You know, we got the bino's out. We're looking for bears at my kids looking for bears. Like 20 hours of touring goes by, no bears, no signings of bears, no bears in the long run. We're done. We see everything else. Mountain goats, Elk, bison. I got pictures of all the even the park. I'm not kidding. I'm not exaggerating. We're leaving the park. There's a couple people pulled over on the side of the road. My boy's like, hey, listen, man, we gotta stop here. I'm like, no, we're not stopping. I'm not tired. He's gonna stop. They're looking at some. We get out to look. I walk down to a little ravine. There's a freaking black bear, 30 yards away staring me in the face. I got the picture. I got the picture on locals. Don't get close to a bear. Please, I'm not joking. It was my total mistake. The tour guide comes running out. Get away from the bear. Get away from the back. And my kids like, they start finally backing off runway. Dirty yards in the bear. I took a picture of that sucker before I left. But we gotta wake like, don't get close to bears at the bottom line. I wouldn't have seen it. I didn't know. And it needs this couples taking a picture. And finally, my tour guide rescues them too. Like you're gonna get killed. And a guy says, wait, Jim, one more point. Guy says to me, I'm not kidding. I swear on my life. I yelled a Paula. Don't get dead. 'cause she's a little bit like a to the left of me, and I'm like, she's to the level. A guy goes to me, holy crap. Damage. I knew that was you. I swear on my life this happened. A guy goes, the number one rule to damn my genome show. Don't get dead. Don't get dead by bears. I swear that happened. I said, Paula, don't get dead, 'cause I didn't run without Paula. She was to my left. Don't get done. So I just want you to know I follow my own rules. I'll be right back.

"He's only 22. He is fresh out of high school and college. He is a young kid, and you're not more worried about that. I think pretty much suck. Sadly, the remains of Gabby potato were discovered in grand teton national park two days later on September 19th. Her body was found after two YouTubers reviewed personal footage. They took of their own trip to the tetons, and which they noticed a van that resembled that of Gabby's. One of the YouTubers Jen Bethune said we came across a white van that had Florida plates, a small white van. We were going to stop and say hi, because we're from Florida, too, but the van was completely dark. There was nobody there, so we decided to continue on our way. Gabby's body was found in that general area where they banned live people too, I guess. Yeah. The Bethune have not been the only people online to speak up about their encounters with the couple. TikTok user, Miranda baker, posted a series of videos saying that she and her boyfriend gave a ride to a hitchhiking man they believed to be Brian. At grand teton on August 29th. She claimed that the man told them he needed to go to Jackson, about and after about 20 minutes, she mentioned that they were also heading to Jackson hole, and he immediately became agitated and asked to be dropped off. She said they let them out near Jackson dam and that he walked across the street and into a crowded car park, presumably to find someone else to give him a ride. Right away, a press conference was delivered in which they confirmed that the remains found the park were out of Gabby. A few days later, it was ruled that her death was believed to be a homicide. Just this past Tuesday, we found out that she had been strangled to death by human force, which is otherwise referred to as throttling. Following occurs when someone is strangled manually by someone's hands or fingers so no blankets aren't used, no rope, no one like this. Hands and fingers. Which is notoriously known as a crema fashion. Everybody says that it's always been known in like the crime community that someone that strangles, someone it's usually someone that you know that strangles a person. It's usually the heat of the moment. Those kinds of things. So it very much indicates that it's probably someone that she knew. And they also said that her body had they presumed that her body had been out there for three to four weeks. Before they found her. Although Brian has not yet been named a suspect in Gabby's murder, and still remains a person of interest, there is an act of Warren out for his arrest. Between 30th, between August 30th and September 1st, Brian allegedly used Gabby's Capital One bank card and pin number to make unauthorized withdrawals and charges of more than a $1000, which is a felony..

"Bethune. And she said she took a video of it and then called. The fbi was on august twenty seventh. The last time or parents talked to her as august twenty fifth. Wow so august twenty seventh. She said she drove by and she said it was in a remote area. The teton national park and she was like not many people. You know when you're going to go camp. Not many people go to that side of the teton national park. And i guess she knows it fairly well and she said because it was such a interesting looking vehicle. She took a picture of it not realizing that it was probably you know where it was empty at the time. So where were they. Was that when the this horrific deed was taking place. Is that when he was hiding the body who knows or allegedly. I have to say so but it was her calling the fbi. They got the fbi to go to that. Part of the teton national park. And start looking. I didn't understand that until this morning. There was a lot of last night online. That people were saying social media people founder. Not the fbi. Now that makes sense. Because she's a she's a vlogger a blogger so that's why people were saying that but she was the one who told him that she saw the van which kind of narrowed the search but they still had find her. They looked for three days before they found his body. In the meantime we've got a response from haiti the country really. They're asking the us there. Asking the state department jenas. Please stop deporting migrants as the country remains in crisis. Oh so so. leave them here you. They're yours now. Basically is what haiti so it should be interesting to try to figure this out because if you look at the the journey that the average haitian would have to take to get from haiti to the mexican texas border. You gotta go through believes to get a go through guatemala mexico. I mean it's like three countries plus of course the journey across the water to get there. Are they flying them into mexico. I don't know that's a good question. Where do they get to put him up because they expect about..

"It's Alabama's morning news. I'm j t. Uh, tough enough The phones here and get your thoughts on what's happening in this whole case with Gabby Petito and the missing boyfriend here, Brian Laundry your your thoughts. On this whole situation here. A lot of people weighing in everywhere across the country on this sad, sad story. 8889105105 was our number 888910515. What do you think's going on here? It's been so strange from the beginning, as we know and have seen, um I watched the entire hour and 17 minutes Video of the altercation that took place between Gabby and her boyfriend, Brian Laundry and the police out there that pulled them over because the vehicle was moving erratically driving down the road. Uh, Brian Laundry, described it as an argument they were having and Gabby kept grabbing the steering wheel or grabbing his arm. Uh, there were scratches on him when they got out of vehicles, and the police separated the two talk to each of them. And then sent them in their own directions. I believe Gabby Was left the van they were traveling. So she was able to do take that band and go wherever she went. Um And then Brian Laundry was taken by the police to hotel and allegedly, he stayed there, but I'm not really sure that there They're 100% sure that he ended up staying at that hotel. What happened after that? Is still being put together, and it's some point Brian Laundry besides to drive back to Florida. From out there in the Grand Teton National Park. Which is, you know a lengthy drive. So to me when he leaves If you have an argument with your girlfriend or fiancee. And you separate. All right. We'll get out of the truck or get out of the car. And then you know you take off mad Then you decide, okay? I've called down. She's probably cool. I need to go check her out and see where she is. It's you know, not good to leave her out there by herself. You would go back and try and find her. And if you can't find her, wouldn't you call police immediately? Hey, look, We had an argument. She got out of the car. I took off because I was mad. She was mad, but I came back trying to get her And I couldn't find her. What would would that not be? The I guess, normal course of action. But apparently that did not happen. And he drove back to Florida and went into hiding. Got a lawyer Pretty quick. These types of moves to me indicate he knows more than he's talking about. Well, he's not talking about anything really, and neither are his parents. But it indicates also if you're going to leave Without your girlfriend thousands of miles away to go back home and hide and get a lawyer. Something stinks here. But for the family's sake, Gabby's families say They believe they have found the remains and there will be closure for that family to bring her home. With a good burial Here's FBI agent Charles Jones earlier today, human remains were discovered consistent with the description of Gabrielle Gabby Petito. He also offered condolences to the family. Every parent can imagine This is an incredibly difficult time for the family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. We ask that you all respect the privacy. As they mourn the loss of their daughter. Uh, Just so sad. Just just awful. And you know, you try and not jump to conclusions. Law enforcement didn't bring him in and arrest him and questioning him. And Carl him a suspect. Person of interest is what they left it at Early on. Which allowed Brian Laundry. To be free as a regular citizen. He went home, and apparently now he left last Tuesday. With a backpack and went into this nature preserve their Near north toward Florida. His home there. Search is on for him. Nothing now. No clues. Dogs were sent. Helicopters, drones Nothing. But that area in that natural preserve their Pretty dangerous a lot of wet areas, gators and critters throughout the area. I don't even know if Brian Laundry still alive. But this will all come out At some point. We'll find out exactly what happened. But right now it's still Very, very ongoing investigation and very sad for both families and this And, uh, Gabby. It looks like we'll be coming home. The autopsy once again to confirm that it's her. We'll be done tomorrow. Yeah, just horrible situation, prayers for these people involved and that the law enforcement involved get Brian laundry and bring him to justice. It's 6 48. Alabama's morning news, traffic and weather together. Three minutes. Stay with us. Meet. This view was worth the hike right? And it's a good way to stay.

Terry it's good to have you with us. Thank you read your book. The our land takes us not to the obvious parks but it takes us to some of the less famous parks. You chose about a dozen parks to introduce to us why these parks why not win at the grand and famous ones. Would you believe me if i told you that i saw this as a dinner party. You know my mother was a great hostess and she always said you know. Pick your dinner parties very carefully because who knows what will come out of them so you know here. We have fifty nine national parks in our country. How to choose a dozen. So i really did envision it as dinner party i knew who the heads of the table would be my mother park which would be grand teton national park. The other end of the table. I knew it would be canyon. Lands national park where we live closely to. I could count on them then. I thought all right who's gonna be on the other end of the table holding the space that are reliable and for me. It was a canadian national park in maine and teddy roosevelt national park. In north dakota. I had been to the many times and they were trustworthy. Then i thought okay. Who are the dream guests that i would want that. I don't know. But i know other people who do and we can bring them to the table and i thought of big bend national park. I thought of gates of the arctic national park and effigy mounds. And i thought those were my dream guests

"There was nothing. Zero. There was nothing for that bear, and you know, bears by nature are curious, right? So they may even come by or even when they don't smell anything. They just, hey, what's going on over here, right? But bears in general are smash and grab artists. And if you can think of them that way, and you can think of doing everything in your power. Not to give them an opportunity to linger at your site and say, hey, I smell this. You are, you have won the war, man. You know, I'm not saying a bear won't come into your sight, but if there's nothing to see here, if they don't, they may smell food, but it's not gonna be on the nylon of your tent. It's not gonna be on your sleeping bag. Yeah. It's not gonna be on your clothes. It's not gonna be anywhere near your tent. And that's the key. So that's the tips we wanna give. Yeah, so it's about avoiding the interaction to begin with and it's about reducing the interaction. So that's just barebone basics of it. So one of our first tips is a void tracking smells into your sleeping area altogether. So when you're in the back country, in bear country, you know, you are removing your sleeping area as far away from your eating area as possible. It should be at least 100 yards. And if you want to, you know, add a little bit more to that. Hundred yards is about a football field to give you a visual of all you football fans and those that don't like football like me. Just do your best to envision it. Or track your footsteps. But generally, I can't believe I can't believe you're gonna use a football analogy. I don't know how else to visualize it. It's really hard to visualize that because we don't work in yards. We work in miles. We don't work in yards in our business. For you to have to bring the best I could do right away. But anyway, the funny thing about the hundred yards and that's been that's been around for a long time. It's written almost in every guide buckets written almost on every leave no trace bug. But here's the thing and I want to kind of chime in on this. The hundred yard away from your tent, this is where the lazy hiker and the lazy person, you might get away with that stuff and in some states and bears in some bear states in the southeast you might get away with that. I don't think I'd be doing the smokies anymore. That's just my opinion. You know, but in Yellowstone, I'm gonna tell you something in Montana, bob Marshall wilderness, Montana, teton bridger wilderness, in Wyoming, and the tetons, you better, you better cook a hundred yards away from your tent. And that's that's up to you on whether you don't think it's going to happen to you or not. But I'm just telling you, Ariana and I are giving you some really good advice. You might get away with that in other states..
