"Go to your calls. First up, line one, from the city of brotherly love, fell from Philly. That's what that's what I was talking about. How Should the President Respond to China?

"And so the chai comes are trying to figure out our response action. If the Japanese imperial navy in 1941 had done an exercise to run a carrier group close to Hawaii to figure out whether or not we'd noticed them, I think that would be the analog or Hitler eating up the sudetenland, followed by Czechoslovakia, testing whether or not appeasement was the soup du jour and the first reaction was, my gosh, we let it go anywhere. So now we're overreacting, but maybe not. I don't want these balloons with Volkswagen sized radar arrays floating over our country. Yeah, I think I don't think anybody does. And what you're seeing now when I was talking about this with my colleagues at punchbowl news yesterday is you're seeing kind of the first big split or one of the not the first, but a big split between the Biden administration and Democrats, which is over this. I mean, you have Jim heims, who's the ranking member of the intelligence committee say yesterday what the Biden administration needs to be more forthcoming, which I thought was a telling telling comment from someone to find stature. And you have tests are pretty pissed off, John tester a Montana. So you have a bunch of people Mark Warner last week to my colleague, my colleague Andrew diario, who's an eagle fan, unfortunately for him. Basically is pretty worked up about this and not getting the documents from the administration or briefing on the documents taken from Donald Trump, Joe Biden and Mike Pence is homes. So a whole host of anger on the democratic side towards this administration. Now the

Who Is More MAGA in Montana

"So I want to go back to rosendale because the only one I can have any kind of Ethereum because it's just so stupid. This is such a stupid destructive act. Rosendale might think it gives him purchase versus zinke and a primary, but I don't think it does. I think with Trump endorsing McCarthy, it doesn't help with the base of the base. I mean, there's a tenth of the Republican Party out there as Dwayne came up with this. They're the always Trump people and the only Trump people. And the only Trump people aren't going to be happy with Matt rosendale. Well, that might be true. Look, I think the bigger issue for rosendale. Is there are many ways to distinguish yourself as a conservative. It's more conservative than your opponent. I do think that you need to think ahead in Montana. There's still a streak of libertarian pragmatism out there. Especially if testers, the Democrat running, they're not simply going to vote for rosendale in a November election because he was the most conservative candidate in the primary. And I don't think that he's looking at this quite the way he should. But again, I think that the bigger issue here is how do a minority of House Republicans plan to convince a majority of their colleagues let alone the public to embrace their plans for insurgency. They don't seem to have one.

Rep. Chip Roy: Three Things Happening About This Election Right Now

"See a few things happening in these red states where the states have been insulated from crazy because red states have had governors and they've had policies that are pretty decent right One of them And so bubbling up percolating leftists who put out ideas but they're very theory You know because they're not impacted by New York on the other hand right They're dealing with rampant crime They're dealing with the direct consequences of the leftist agenda So you're seeing a push back there Let's take Mike Lee Can you talk to conservative state They're in generally good shape But you've got Evan McMullen running as a supposed independent Yet he's anything but a clear Democrat a clear liberal He said that he supported ketanji Brown Jackson's confirmation He's talked about gun regulations He's talked about supporting unreliable quote green energy He's a waffle on abortion He's touted the federal role in education He's promoted critical race theory He voted for Joe Biden I keep going down the list He's a liberal He's done fundraisers with tester I mean he's a Democrat But he's carved out this thing as like oh I'm mister independent And then you've got that Mitt Romney wing of the Republican Party in Utah that just can't stand a guy like Mike Lee who is principal and who stands up and fights and does what is right when it is hard to do it And so Mike is in a little bit of a tough race I was out in Utah Last week almost two weeks ago And had a great visit out there and we got some good folks out there Ted Cruz is going out there to close out the race next week A lot of us have been coming up and if you're out there you're listening to this you know show up for Mike Lee There's no more important rates in the country than ensuring that Mike Lee wins his race for Senate I think he will but it's closer than it should be And we've got to make sure he gets it done

"To you by chime DoorDash and babbel, but we'll tell you more about that later. For now, let's begin with what is and will forever be the roper report. It's time for some mother loving news. We've got 6 stories today. A big girl. Doesn't? Thank you. Barrett. First story is, as mentioned at the top of the show, an update on the Activision QA situation. And it's a win for the Activision Blizzard QA department. I'm reading this from Jason schreier's Twitter as it is very much a breaking news story and is developing. He tweeted Activision Blizzard just told staff that all of its 1100 quality assurance status will be one converted from contract to full-time and two bumped up to at least $20 an hour, which is a big win for QA in the wake of several worker revolts and a burgeoning union effort. Try is working on the story as are many others. Slide clarification you followed up with 1100 is the number of temporary and contract QA testers that are being converted to full-time, according to Activision Blizzard. There are other testers at the company who were already full time staff. So major, major win for Activision Blizzard QA team who has been fighting tooth and nail to get some sort of better treatment from in terms of their working conditions. And if anything, this is a case that shows that it's worth fighting for. And do the work and if you come together, you can make a change. And I think the biggest thing here is, as we do this show every weekday, we deal with good news, bad news, game delays, game announcements, and then so much of this horrible, horrible stuff, whether it's the workplace situations being bad or even way, way worse than that. And as we talk about all these things and as just become more and more common these stories, I think and I keep wanting to say this. It's so important to note that sometimes we see the growth from it. And having those conversations, the amount of conversations that have been forced in the last couple of years are forcing the situation to change and forcing people to take notice that are in positions of power that didn't, that weren't noticing the right things. And weren't investing in the right things. So is it changing overnight? No, but these are the little kind of chip damage that we're working towards. So we got to celebrate these wins, but we can't give up there. We've got to keep pushing with all this stuff. But this is absolutely a win for them. And that is something that I'm happy. I want Activision to have wins. If the winds look like this, you know what I mean? This is absolutely a good thing. And this is also a good example or a kind of north star for other developers who may not be who may also be in a situation where they need to make changes and fight for similar kind of changes in their workplace environment and how they're treated because if it can happen at Activision, blizzard, one of the biggest companies in the world that has no doubt put a lot of effort into union busting and making sure that all trying to quell these kind of let's call it an uprising, but if they can pull it off, you can do it where you are probably to just do your best and keep going. And hopefully you will be able to make a change. So good job to the folks that have been fighting for a better working conditions. Over at that company. Next story, I think this came out post kind of funny games the early yesterday. Remedy is make remaking max Payne one and two for PC PS5 and Xbox Series X and S this comes from Steve watts at the number one video game website on the Internet GameSpot dot com. The story reads a remake of max Payne and max Payne two, the fall of max Payne is coming from remedy entertainment. The studio behind the original max Payne games has reached an agreement with rockstar who owns the IP to remake both games for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X and S the remakes will come as a single release using the north like game engine, which was used for quantum break and control. You shouldn't expect it to come anytime soon though. As the announcement notes that it's only in the concept development stages. We were thrilled when our longtime friends at remedy approached us about remaking the original max Payne games said rockstar founder Sam Hauser in the announcement. We are massive fans of the work the remedy team has created over the years and we can't wait to play these new versions. Max Payne has always held a special place in the hearts of everyone at remedy, and we know the millions of fans worldwide feel the same too, said remedy CEO Taro Tala. We're hugely excited to be working with our partners at rockstar games once again for the chance to bring the story action and atmosphere of the original max Payne games back to players in new ways. So max Payne was notable for its neo noir setting and bullet time gameplay, which became a mainstay in several other games in the same era. The two games were followed by a max Payne three, which was developed internally at rockstar. The game's development budget will be financed by rockstar games, the size of which will be in line with a typical remedy triple-A production. Under the agreement remedy has a royalty opportunity off the rockstar games has recouped its development marketing and other costs for distributing and publishing the game. So great time for max Payne fans, Tim, how.

"The building fell. Why is this still standings. And there wasn't much damage there But it was it was it was crazy. What what was the. Why was there so much destruction. Was it just the coating that they just didn't have much codes as far as earthquake particularly from what the i have been told on the ground just from people i had met while we were working down there was that the government regulation and building codes. But they were never met and they were never completed projects out of the way of like getting around that loophole with the government code. So essentially what. This engineer told me was that That concrete for the cy wall supporting walls need to have something like two parts. Concrete one part water and brand new rebar but a lot of the home and had heavy roofs as well. So you would do the same mixture on that but they would go half on the mixture to save resources and then use recycled rusted rebar. And so you have these heavy roof week walls and then the earthquake wasn't even that bad. I think it was a seven point. Something normally something like that. It'll shake things a little bit but it won't take buildings down. Haiti like all of the buildings fell so like or not all of them but a great amount like ninety percent of them. Heavy roof tweak while just crush so allow the injuries that i fell out there where like crushing injuries practiced skull fracture Things of that nature. Yeah a recent guess. Jake would That's where he started team. Rubicon hamid volunteers talked about that now. It's a huge. "Bill is traditional infrastructure. I think it's what the country needs. And hopefully we can get it through the senate with a good vote and give it to the house. No facet against the president's desk and then we have reconciliation and hopefully we can get a reconciliation bill that meets the needs in america whether some childcare or housing or senior whatever it might be and and make sure it's paid for any and then move it along to i'll tell you that the warner says correct. I mean this country needs food and they need they need to. We need to be able to show that we can work together to get something passed. And i think there's bill nissan easy this country graver welsh. I'm talking about the vice ardabil. Look once we get this done when we go to reconciliation. That bill may be a really really really good too and we'll make that assessment. What's that bill drafted built an amended and all the things that this bill is going to go through over the next week. They'll look the other nine senators involved in this to have have overcome some stuff. So talk to me about what the road looks. Like in reconciling. Two things you heard. What giant paul representing house. Progressives had to say senator. Kristen cinema issued a response about the reconciliation. Bill where she says. I do not support a bill that cost three and a half trillion dollars in the coming months. I will work in good faith to develop this legislation with my colleagues and the administration to strengthen arizona's economy and help arizona's everyday families get ahead. So what we have here is. Two pieces of doubt. Both cast by democrats at the moment. Tell me about how negotiate this going forward. I think we gotta talk about the merits of the bill. This bill is about two things. It's about jobs a lot of jobs. All of this country good paying jobs livable wage jobs and it's about national security. The truth is china. Wants to replace us in. This world is a leading economic. Our if we don't get our act together in washington dc. They will do exactly that. If we don't start to unite in quick dividing than than we're doomed in this country. And so i think this bill is a step forward where you have five. Democrats and five republicans argued and fought for two months and but we all had the main goal in mind to get to yes and then we threw it in the white house and they helped push this the app stew and we threw in senator schumer now today leader mcconnell and they all wanted to get to yes we need to continue that philosophy moving forward not only through the senate but through the house gets to spill across the finish line our country nieces or going to maintain our position is the leader of the economic power in this world. And if we don't shame on us so we've got a lot of work to do. You're right but this is worth that can be done. We've done a lot of work getting to this point and we're willing to roll up sleeves. Consider that suffered wife. Oh so sixty seven votes in the senate is these days usually reserved for something like naming a post office like things that are just. Nobody's got any disputes over us. You mentioned leader. Mcconnell voted for this. This is a procedural bill. I mean it's important one. It starts debate. Do you think there's some way you can get sixty plus votes to close this debate at some point and then the fifty i think you probably get the fifty plus you need in the end but you still are going to need ten extra republicans all along this road people at this bill for what it does for this country. I think. get mortgage dictums Phone truth is as i said before. We need investment in roads bridges and broadband electoral infrastructure water. And the list goes on and on and this bill does that. This is the largest expenditure infrastructure this. We need to talk about that. We need to talk about how we get this done. Is it going to be easy now. It's not nobody thinks it will be. There'll be a lot of games played. There's folks in the senate they're going to try to derail is saying but we need to stick together just like the suspect together over the last months and if we're able to do that we'll get this bill through the senate with a good healthy vote. I think it's going to be north or sixty seven votes. Frankly in the end once people get a chance to see this. What does i think there's going to be more than six or seven. Senators that vote for talk to me about what happened with jerry moran of kansas. He was on the team. Any voted no in this procedural bill. Why do you know juries. Our good friend of mine. And i can't speak for jerry moran and We'll have to sort that out is the process. But i don't think jerry's alaska's. I think that if he sees this bill of in good for kansas and good for the country he'll get on board and so like i said a good man hill analyze it on the grounds that he thinks is important and act. "Package has advanced tonight in the united states. Senate we'll be talking to senator jon. Tester one of the senators who helped negotiate that deal in just a moment and hopefully he can walk us through. Exactly what is in the bill. But first we've got breaking news right off the top. Here's the brand new headline tonight. At the washington post quote as trump pushed for probes of two thousand twenty election. He called acting attorney. General rosen almost daily that we had known before tonight. The donald trump had tried to pressure the justice department in the days after the election asking the department of justice to investigate fake claims of voter fraud. Which would help de legitimize. Joe biden's victory but until tonight we did not know how extensive donald trump's efforts were according to the washington post president. Donald trump called his acting attorney general nearly every day at the end of last year to alert him to claims of voter fraud or alleged. Improper vote counts in the twenty twenty election and quote in those calls the post report. The donald trump raised various allegations of voter fraud that he had heard about and asked what the justice department was doing about it. Here's the kicker these calls did not just stay phone calls. There is a paper trail quote. Attorney general rosen. Told few people about the phone calls even in his inner circle but there are notes of some of the calls that were written by. A top aide to rosen named richard. Donahue who was present for some of the conversations those notes by the way concern be soon be turned over to the senate judiciary committee as part of its probe into why bill bar so suddenly left the justice department after the election those notes could head to congress in a matter of days unless donald trump moves to block that from happening joining us now devon barrett one of the lead reporters on the blockbuster story in the washington post tonight devlin. Thank you for this reporting and thank you for being here with us tonight. As unorthodox as things were during the donald trump presidency this goes further the idea of president dealing in his own personal interest with his attorney. General is stuff that we think about. When we think of richard nixon and one of the things that we've all been working to understand a little better is exactly how hands on did trump get with his aides and his senior officials as he pushed for this as as he sought to. Frankly pull the justice department in two things like litigation and attacks on the vote certification and now we know that a big part of that important part of that was these calls to the nation's top law enforcement official. Time jeff rosen and so and those calls at least. Some of them are documented in these notes. And you know it's entirely possible that in a matter of days you know those notes may be produced. Let's let's talk about the two parts of that. The not tell us something. About how rosen may have seen these phone calls or at least This this this this aid derosa may have seen these calls generally speaking. You don't take notes about things you don't think are going to be important or meaningful that there are notes that tell the state of mind of the attorney. General receiving phone calls almost daily from the then defeated president of the united states. Still in office. And i do think.

"On the paper so they have to get kicked out. You wouldn't use it. Ineligible would just say that. That is what i would describe as inadvertent doping Where the principal. I rise a think earlier. Bear an athlete being responsible evening and his or her body Comes into play. And so you have got to examine mid medicinal staff. You got examines supplements so that you can say. I did everything i possibly could to ensure that didn't have a prohibited substance in it and if you can't show that the unfortunately even with something like that you're gonna lose the event result. So you gonna be disqualified. You might not get a sanction But you're gonna lose the event because you had that prohibited substance on your body And they have been many of those sorts of examples over the years are young gymnasts than olympic games in sydney. Same sort of thing A young woman redican who who had just that sort of scenario and unfortunately lost. The middle has filed a lawsuit. It's being reported against the international olympic committee. The goal is to get her gold medal back and to have her name cleared from. What's being called the blacklist of doping but a lot of people feel very. Sorry for. And i suppose it's the fault of diapers that such strict line has to be adopted. Well it's it's there but it's also Sometimes the pharmaceutical staff is different from country to country. And i don't want to put any liable on it but you might have something in this country where the gum blat and some other country and it's got a different makeup and so you really do and and this is why sire elite live. We've gone to have to be really really careful about what you put in your body. D- think an asean st think sport without doping is a bit like society without crime in the sense that it's something that we should aspire to but which almost by its nature is essentially impossible to achieve. You never win the war. You might win a few battles on the way in. I think you have to concede that when you start the sort of stuff. But you've got to look at what you therefore can do to reduce it and so reducing. Doping is probably a better objective thin absolutely routing it and the second thing is you have to do is make sure that those who are the real corrupt people in sport removed and are not talking about the athletes. This is where i'm talking about those who cajal or persuade or otherwise convince athletes to do things that they shouldn't be doing And it's not just typing it's it's match-fixing and all the other things that you can do in sport that makes it makes it wrong and so we need to look at that from that perspective and we need to do what we can to manage it. "Olympic decisions shows. They were right all along to the ohio. See being a little bit annoyed. Because i don't like losing cases And so they then said cannabis is going to be on the prohibited list and it has remained there If a sense why picked up the list of the responsibility for in two thousand five after the world anti dubbing counted come into being and from there on in It has been on the list but his changed In in two categories one. It's now in our only in competition. And secondly you heft to be full of it. If you got a test positive you have to test the shoulders. One hundred fifty nanograms per milliliter. Which means you can't just be in a room where someone's smoking and you passively smoke And you can't sort of have had in your body Like a week ago. It's it's a very big three showed. And since that was introduced in two thousand sixteen they have not been many positive cannabis cases but the has been one very high profile. Wanna recently certainly has been when she. Richardson ends i mean. What are your. You've outlined the rose theatre elegantly. I think there's How do you feel about this case as it a case of you know. Maybe you have sympathy. But the rules of the rose and she knew the rose will. You're going to start from that position. You got to start from the position that every elite athlete in the world knows these rules by now. They've been in place for much longer than twenty years. Probably this athlete for her whole life And every international athlete particularly those from high profile sports like track and field that she's involved in from a country as a sensible and clever as the united states will have been educated fully so they know is on the list. They get re told repeatedly what you can't have. They're told to check supplements. They told us kick or anything that put on their body they responsible for so it defies belief in common sense that she would not have known that it was on the list. So you ain't gonna turn to say well Did she record it on her diving. Control form kushtia. Supposed to when you give a tsa what you've had recently in I'm interested to know what the answer might be And if she did take it and she had an excuse well probably to bed. The twenty one year old explaining the laps came after learning. Her biological mother had died action. I know what i'm doing. I know what i'm supposed to do. I'm not. I'm allowed to do. And i still made that decision by not making an excuse allegany in in my case budget however being in a position of my life finding out something like that something that i would say is probably one of the biggest thing that have impacted me positively or negatively in my life when it comes to deliver a relation my mother so then deathly wounds a very heavy big on me that something that a few recorded. Then you're going to be able to long in terms of the evidence if you don't record it someone's going to say. Why didn't you people might say today that i get. I get the strictness. The stringency around the prohibited substance and controls. And things like that. But you know. Come on. But i suppose this kind of gets into what you were talking about earlier in the idea of to catch a crook you hate to think like a crook and one of the key. Things for crooked assyria presumably as the idea of plausible. Deniability is look. I think the mini- situations with it. That's going to be viable because you just need to take. The one of the current controversies which is contaminated food and contaminated. Food can include steroids. That have been fit too cows for example so there are some issues that have to be straightened out a little bit more by wada But if it comes to tic or cannabis That semester really for the politicians to determine as to whether i still wanted on the list And as i said that's an annual review and if people want to push it forward in i can do that through their international federation or through Through the government and on. I should say here. The new zealand government has quite consistently said that cannabis should not be on the list. but they have been in a minority when it comes to That submersion w familiar with goldman's delina or not. It's this some pace of research that was done. I think it was done on. This evening's by a psychologist. I think it was we. It was a hypothetical thing. He weaned around the asked a bunch of elite athletes. Very simple mission. He asked if. I gave you a drag. That would guarantee that you won an olympic year. They guarantee that you want an olympic wien boss. You would die within five years. Would you take it and i think more than half the athletes. He asked seed yes. There been similar. I didn't realize that was the name of the test but there have been similar surveys done at various times in the last twenty years i imagine An ad much rather than fifty percent. It was sort of. One of those results was around. Seventy five percents will. Oh i'll be dead by the time i'm thirty. It was with it Because when the gold medal and an are think the element of Bravado that comes from those sorts of reports. Because when you're young you think you're invincible And so if you take it. I'm not going to be the one that's gonna hit. Somebody else will get it so anyway. so that's that's the way you've got to sort of balance that a little bit on the other hand scares the heck out of here because you think we'll people are prepared to take really big risks for the sake of glory and Those people are susceptible therefore to corrupt behavior. Well yeah i mean. I found that amazing. I could not believe it when as you say you know. It's a hypothetical situation. Cath thank. They're going to be people who are full of bravado who say years shore. I'll do that. But i guess the question here is. Are you ever taken aback. By the you know the links athletes are willing to go to four six in glory. No on lord in an. It's not that. I was an elite athlete or anything. It's just our think you'd get to know the links to which athletes train and try to you know excel and that doing that as a fulltime job. And you've got to respect that and you've got understand what that means when they're in the top ten twenty hundred in the will. It's it's a hiccup elite position to be in. There are not many around the place who can who can say that. And that's why it's it's such a big honor to be selected to go to events like the olympic games just phenomenal the quality and the excellence of of the sporting prowess charlotte lies places. And so if you're if you're after something like that and you being striving and straining and trying to get there and someone just off as yodel shortcut might be tempted to do it and that's where we have to be very careful about ensuring the values that we promote an our country and minneapolis Upheld when it comes to sport because people take shortcuts and examinations and all sorts of things. Nowadays you've gotta understand. Part of it is the pace of life and people trying to get up as quickly as they can You know it's not a long journey. It's a short one and so they take take steps accordingly but then you get cases like i think it was the eighty thousand. I'm russian elena. Better schneier Had a world figure skating championship. Gold medal stripped from her because she took called medication. Which contains you dream into. Take your metaphor of exam chasing as an. It's a bit like someone getting kicked out of an an exam. "Emotional response. I suffer from Job not being done properly as they're saints. Though of justice will sometimes the view that you take on behalf of those who are clean athletes And you feel comfortable that you doing the right thing for them to allow them to compete fairly And that's one of the gist of the job. I guess when you're doing the anti-doping woo tell me a bit about wada. Its conception wean started y. It was started because it's actually. It's it's a more new than i think. People may realize it's a little more than twenty years old now. It was formed essentially at the end of nineteen ninety nine beginning of two thousand And it followed the festina tobacco on the tour franson in nineteen ninety eight where the were a lot of doping allegations in one team was banned from the tool because it was shuffling drugs across borders and all sorts of things last night. Jean-marie leblanc the director. General of tour de france issued a statement saying that team festina. The number one team in the world has been removed. From this year's tour this comes on the heels of admission by the lawyer for bruno who sell the team manager that there was a doping plan in place for the use of performance enhancing drugs under strict medical supervision. There was sufficient about how the olympic committee was dealing with issues. The meeting in lausanne of governments and sport and i decided i'd sit up this independent body to look at the whole issue of anti-doping so was formed and and two thousand And i was appointed by amnesty here to be on the initial board. I was the hit of the legal committee. And then i be. I was asked to co two montreal to help sort out the office. As a ceo in one thing led to another. I became the ceo. Would you say dog. Ping was more prevalent when you began at water or more prevalent. Now and twenty. Twenty one where it's all guesswork and so to start guessing you have to bear that in mind there's no material that would allow you to be factual than in an answer to that question You can look at the number of positive tests received on an annual basis and say not much has changed since the ninety nineties there about one to two percent of the tests. which might be positive ones. But what you have to do. If you're doing this work as say what will the bed people do to get around the rules in the bed. People to get around rules doing things more and more sophisticated now than they were. Twenty thirty years ago They have a lot more money at their ability to spin. They have scientists. Doctors lawyers united a heck of a lot more than the people who are out there conducting anti-doping movement so money talks money brings matters in the bad guys. Get information to tell them how to beat the roof. A south of powell who is thirty years old from jamaica one of the best sprinters we've ever seen tyson gay it one hundred meter champion have both tested positive for doping. You mentioned just before. There's these operations are more sophisticated now than they may have been in the past. What does a sophisticated doping operation look like. And how is it sophisticated. What i don't want to give too many secrets away to those who want to start to dope but What has occurred over the years. Sings like microdosing. So you take a very small amount which might give you an advantage for a short period sometimes even The the length of the individual competition that you might be involved in Sometimes even less you might have a cocktail number of substances so that there are several and in the likelihood of detecting one is therefore minimal You might also engage in blood transfusions in other liquidating yourself before your tests are the behind writing there. There are lots of pretty easy ways of beating the system and so if you out running. The system is anti diving specialist. You need to be alert to those. So that the athletes that you have suspicions about and if information to might indicate That the doping you tip them at the right time If you don't you can miss it. Twenty four o'clock or whatever it might be that the stuff takes to get out of the system. Yes so it's not so simple as just pumping someone out with human growth hormone and all of a sudden that begging strong know that the image of that frightens me a little bit actually a meal but i think at the end of the day those who Being sophisticated in the cheating will be. Just they're totally sophisticated in those who are trying to get them will not be quite as sophisticated. And therefore you know you. You're chasing tyler. we've it leads. Talk about about the prohibited substances blessed. This has bain and the news of the past couple of weeks near one is legal in oregon where richardson was competing but his banned in the hours before raised by the us anti-doping agency which says it can enhance performance pose a health risk and violate the spirit of the sport. Maybe one way of describing this all illegal doping uses prohibited substances but not all prohibited substances illegal doping. Is that pretty much. The case i i think what you trying to say is not all prohibited substances app performance enhancing. Yeah and that would be accurate because performance. Enhancing your the potential to enhance performances. Only one of the three criteria that would lead to substance being on the list and you have to satisfy only two of them to get it on the list the other two country or have the potential to be concrete to one's health and the third one is contrary to the spirit of sport. So win the world anti doping agency. Does this list which it does. On an annual basis it receives submissions from any international federation or any government wants to make a submission considers them and might put something on the list of take something off but they will not publish the reasons for that. So you will not know looking at a manta weather satisfies the i two or the second to all of thurston third criteria. The not told that cannabis is interesting Emil because it has a history. And i think it's with telling people what that is because the ohio say was responsible for the list before water was formed And for a long time at the olympic games the ifc itself relied on each individual sport at those games to have a list which mirrored this what happened in nineteen ninety eight. Was that a snowboarder. From canada. tested positive for cannabis He was disqualified from the event by the ioc bodies. Ordeal is of course the talk of his hometown. "Goes away you can still wear them as fashionable glasses. Oh my word. Fashionable glasses took us well. That's the that's really the big challenge about a lot of what you're talking about. Is tying a piece of hardware explicitly to service that exists in the cloud. There there is a there is a specific life span for that product. It's not going to last forever Getting a pair of echo frames guaranteed that product is not going to work as successfully as it is fifty years down the line. Probably not even ten years down line. If that's the most successful product in amazon's catalog. It's still probably not gonna work ten years from now because technology moves along the the way that they've built the ecosystem around it you know in the cloud and the software to support all that stuff Advances to a point where that original hardware just going to work. It's going to be outdated and you know and even outside of that. There's so many pieces of hardware that we're buying now that are so intrinsically tied to some sub sort of computing mechanism. That isn't on device. And anytime we do that. We're at the mercy of the people who were buying the hardware from is just can. Can we buy it and be confident that we're going to get enough. And what is enough. I don't know what the definition of enough is probably different for everyone but enough us out of it that we don't feel like we got completely ripped off of the process. Well i yeah. It just makes me very hesitant about You know recommending. Yeah or selling arming purchasing amazon's More experimental products like i. I feel that it's pretty safe to buy echo products Given how much how many different kinds. They've worked on and how How much attention is paid to that. But outside of though that kind of Smart speaker area. It's tough to wants to Be in that marketplace because they could just hold the rug out from under you and away and that's good yeah all right Let's not pull the rug out from under people because we're going to give them a little bit of a segue here to say that This episode of tech news weeklies coming to an end today. But i've got my phone. And i'm going to open up this the synthesizer or whatever so i'm just gonna shoot it Some of it's gonna be rough and tumble but it's really just kind of off the cuff. "On their part. Ultimately there was a lot of random stuff that ranges between hardcore and family friendly a series called advance wars which a strategy game for the game boy advance. And that's getting re released for the switch. And i assume it's going to sell like gangbusters. Because what gameboy advance install base was nothing compared to how crazy people are about the switch and nintendo has that room to wiggle around and release things that were big back in the day and remastered it in hitting a whole new audience. Now and then there's a pokemon released a remastered coming out in november. And they didn't even talk about these three because it's just pokemon and that's going to nintendo's doing fine but not everything that we super nerds were dreaming of being unveiled and released as a trailer this week. Now what were you. Dreaming of from From microsoft because it sounds like everybody is is smitten with The news from the event about xbox game pass and the power and breath of that catalog. What did you think i mean i. I said this last year. And i'm saying it again this year. Xbox game pass is the game of the show. meaning you're spending fifteen dollars a month if you're paying the full price. And there are ways to get discounts and bundles and free. Trials and things like that to get an incredible allotment of new interesting games every month and they went crazy acquisition spree in the past two years and the fruits of that are really starting to show because basically every month. There's a big game this year coming out on game pass for xbox consoles including microsoft flight simulator which was previously a Computer only psycho nuts to age of empires for for computer halo infinite at some point this holiday season. I don't have the entire list in front of me right now. But basically there was a lot of diversity in genre and there's also a bunch of third party games where microsoft goes to people and says. Hey here's some money. Please beyond game pass on day and date the idea being unique wait you get the subscription service and all of the big stuff all the cool stuff. All the microsoft specific stuff is there day. One can compare that to some of sony subscription offerings particularly playstation now which holds a lot of their biggest games off. Were they want they say. Pay the sixty or nowadays seventy dollars launch to get access to our biggest games. Oh but user. Subscription service for smaller fry fry fair and microsoft is on the other side saying here. Here's everything here's all of our big stuff. If you just want to be up to date with the biggest xbox things get on game pass so that show of force was really big. I was really hoping for more. You asked what i hope for. And halo infinite to me. Came out a little shyer than i had expected. I thought that we were going to see a little bit. More of what the traditional campaign would look like. And i don't say single player for that sometimes that's for op where you and some friends can all team up and master chief your way through a big landscape and last year. It's reveal got so criticized that they delayed the game a full year. Well they're not delaying. Apparently it's coming out holiday of this year that we don't know exactly win and a lot of people are guessing that they're waiting for the newest call of duty to get a release date before they picked their date because they want to space it out. There's already a new battlefield. There's gonna be a new call of duty so halos squeezing in on the shoot So i'm not shocked about that but they didn't show what that campaign stuff will look like and if you've been playing halo along time that's what you think about for halo you think about teaming up with friends on an epic quest against very smart artificial intelligence bad guys. They did show a bunch of the online versus mode stuff. And that's all free to play however you wanna play it. You can get on their free to play day and date. You don't even have to be on game pass to access it and then an additional battle path. That's all cosmetics only at the very clear if you don't if you just wanna play if you don't want to spend a single penny every mode of every gun every feature will be included. That's huge and that's going to bring in and i imagine they're going to find a way for game pass to also be part of the perks. Where only if you're part of game bass or you buy the campaign content or something you get a little more multi player. Maybe an outfit. I don't know but that's a big deal. And the other big thing that microsoft pushed right before he three was cloud. They're very bullish on. Saying we want it to be easy and useful for you to get on the cloud. And i break that down a lot at ars technica but the bottom line is they're getting a lot of things right. That stadium got wrong in particular game. Pass oh if you pay for the ultimate flavor of game pass which is fifteen dollars a month. All the games are just a dare. You don't have to buy them all a cart. You don't have to worry about whether the service is going to get cancelled and a couple of years in your whole library goes away. It's just that monthly giant buffet style with a lot of content. That's immediately available and their cloud stuff works on a lot of devices and one thing they announced was if you have an older xbox one. They're going to release an app by the year's end that lets you dip into the cloud. And let's see whether your connection is up to snuff and how good it feels. And i'll tell you i know a lot of people who just have an old xbox one and they don't have to get rid of it can just attach it as a very focused cloud device and have it work until their kids. Oh you wanna play the newest games. You don't have to buy new box here you go. And that's gonna lock a lotta people in the in an interesting. I think it's genius. Everything they did from business side is genius. That's that's awesome. Yeah the super compelling awesome okay so that's a value pack their cut. There's so much to talk about and we don't really have enough time to talk about everything if you had to name a couple of the indie titles that you're super excited about..

xbox november Xbox microsoft this year xbox one sony last year seventy dollars nintendo this week sixty playstation halo single player one thing fifteen dollars a month past two years flight simulator a single penny

"Jon Tester. Runs on and they're smaller, rural Red States Way have to take a quick break More with song help Pour in just a moment. For years. The conventional wisdom out of Georgia was that Democrats needed to nominate a moderate to conservative white candidate in order to win there. That was the only way they were going to appeal to the Republican leaning voters in the suburbs to win. They tried and failed and failed again with that model. But what we saw between 2018 and 2020. Is that putting an African American candidate on the ballot in a state that's more than one third African American and having that candidate run on unabashedly progressive platform. It actually worked, according to Saw Hill comport. The entire Democratic playbook in the South is about to face a reckoning. The idea that in you know, purple or red states, what you need to do is basically run as a vanilla Democrat. You know, distance yourself in the party platform, downplay the prospect of your party taking control that did not work this cycle when Democrats tried it. The Democrats did the opposite in a place like Georgia lean into who they are and not really be embarrassed about it. It worked quite well, and the other thing to keep in mind is that they're progressive populist measures that have Direct impact on People expected $1000 stimulus payments that are easy to understand and easy to run on which all softened, Warnock emphasized aggressively. They were hammering that message in the final days and we saw the results People like to vote on a direct economic Benefit to them, whether they generally identify as a progressive or not, but to help, don't you think he's gonna get especially more not considering the fact that he's up in 2022? But don't you think he's going to get advice from many Democrats? That what? Whoa, whoa, you got to be careful, though in a midterm election if you're voting on things like raising taxes and more spending Beyond this stimulus check. You're gonna lose all of those. Ah, fluent suburbanites who fled Trump during this era and you can't win re election without Those folks being an important part of your coalition. That is going to be a bigger question for the party. I think I'm sure. Raphael Warnock, Senator the senator elect is going to get Lots and lots of advice from lots of Democratic consultants about this, But he did kind of run a race in a way that many of them had not expected. Could be one in a place like Georgia. He's probably not the candidate you you would necessarily pick Out of a lineup if you're a Democratic consultant over the last decade, thinking about how to win in Georgia, so he did it his own way, and he won. And so I suspect he's going to trust his own political instincts there, But you're right. He will have to be a little bit careful because you know, as a senator in Georgia, you can't quite vote and govern the way someone like Bernie Sanders and Vermont would or even someone like Chuck sure in New York would so. Yes, it is a bit of a different calculation for Raphael Warnock. Finally, let's go back to Congress. What does it tell you as we're watching senators who previously had been on the sidelines now voicing opposition to what the president's doing some even calling for him. To be either impeached or have the 25th amendment used to remove him from office that we have members of the Cabinet resigning. We have members of the White House resigning. What does it say to you about this point and about the Republican Party going forward? The context here is key. We are two weeks before the end of Donald Trump's presidency. It's not a huge difference that they resigned now versus they're forced out in two weeks, but it does kind of Was symbolic significance that they have chosen to take a stand. I think Look, the site of an insurrection against the United States Capitol has rattled a lot of Republicans. And off Capitol Hill, and I think a lot of what we're seeing is a reaction to that. The other thing that I think is going on is the Georgia run offs have also had an impact in some quarters of the Republican Party in terms of The trump phenomenon. It's punctured this this aura of mystique around the president that he has this magical impact on Republican turnout. It didn't really work in Georgia because he wasn't on the ballot. I think one of the lessons is that when Trump is not is not on the ballot, he is not very useful to Republicans. And he is, in fact, an albatross around their necks. As we saw with Kelly left her and David Perdue how badly they lost suburban areas that Perdue at least had one pretty comfortably and his Previous Senate race. So I think this will will cause Republicans to do a lot of thinking not only on the impact that Donald Trump has had on the party substantively, but whether it is at all in their benefit or whether it is detrimental to them. To continue with his political style and continue to embrace his approach to politics. Social Kapoor is a national political reporter for NBC News. Bility of American politics was on stark display this week. Mob of violent Trump supporters attack to the U. But the events of this week have drawn almost universal condemnation. Republicans have called for the president to step down. Members of his administration have resigned.
