4-day workweek trial in UK: Shorter hours, happier employees

"9 out of ten companies who took part in the world's biggest trial of a four day workweek are not going back to 5 days. Britain's royal society of biology took part in the trial. It involves longer workdays, employee Tessa Gibson loves the four day workweek. Weekends could be quite hectic. The two day weekend. So it's been quite nice to have that extra day. You see your friends and family on the two days when they're also free and then you get that extra day off during the week. Just to do all your chores or just to have that time to yourself. The Royal Society of biology's chief executive doctor Mark downs has seen a change. We see there's actually been a decline in the amount of sick days. But Jay Richards, cofounder of London's image and insight says four days is rushing it. He's tweaking the traditional work schedule. We do a 5 day week, but ten to four. So we shorten the days, and that means that the employees get to have that work life harmony, but they're not actually shorting their week. 70% of employees in the trial reported reduced levels of burnout. Britain urges parties, volunteering to accompany coronation

"Buckingham Palace is planning a weekend of community events and volunteerism to mark the coronation of King Charles the third. The schedule has been released for the three day coronation weekend, which will begin with the crowning of Charles may 6th. He's a very sensitive person and he's very aware of the significance of the coronation ceremony. And so I think it'll be a extraordinary moment for him. Historian Hugo Vickers says the royal family wants to show it still has a role in a nation struggling to deal with the cost of living crisis. Royal historian doctor Tessa Dunlop hopes all the king's family will be there for the coronation, including Harry and Meghan. But also I think the optics internationally mean that it's important there is a form of reconciliation. The day after the coronation, Buckingham Palace is inviting people around the country to take part in the big help out, encouraging them to volunteer in their own communities. I'm Ed Donahue

Debbie Joins Dinesh to Discuss the Expulsion of Chesa Boudin

"Debbie and I have been talking about chesa boudin and chess are getting the boot from the voters of San Francisco. And you know, we've had some dealings indirectly. We don't know chessa. But I discovered just a many, many years ago when looking through some archives of some footage of chessa with Bill heirs and the Tsar of education in Venezuela and how interesting that dynamic was, you know, of course, is fluent in Spanish. So Tessa was interpreting for Bill as he was telling the Tsar of education in Venezuela. What he too wanted to do for the education system in America. And I thought that was just unbelievably amazing. I couldn't believe I found probably about 12 videos. Of that. And I was super excited to show them to you. That's how we met. And then subsequently, we were actually sitting across from Bel airs and bernadine Dorne, and restaurant in Chicago, and they were talking pretty affectionately about their family, billers, dad, as I recall. But then also chess on. They couldn't have been more proud of chessa because was the Adam was he already the DA? No, he wasn't the DA. No, but he was a rising figure. He was I think he had gone his law degree. He was, I think that he had just gotten his law degree. I could be wrong, but anyway, but it's really interesting how some of these and I don't even call him far left, I call him a communist. Yeah. I mean, Che Guevara on the background. These are communists. You know, I use the phrase and a couple of people wrote me there. It's the phrases, red diaper, baby. Which is a phrase coming out of the 20th century. Basically means that your parents communists. Right, the offspring of communist

"You remember who. Mary was dating senior year and enter college. Yes yes so. I only remember because tessa notion. And i have story. Yeah ooh we're not talking about that. No we've had this discussion. I remember having this discussion in my room the first time we met her really. Yes because i mean. I don't know how detailed you wanna get. Get a to mary. I'm sorry you're doing well mary. I haven't seen you forever assuming that we're talking about the same thing i know. We're tired of the same thing. I know because i 'cause she's difference with that guy the other guy. Yeah that's how you. Because i remember you. Oh yeah. I remember very well. This is the first time we met. You met her really. Yeah yeah you met her. I remember this very well okay. He's very funny anyway. Please share. i don't know. I think we are talking about the so when we go to florida to visit my dad's i think my parents friends. They're catholic and so they asked us to take communion with them really actually though right. So that's the thing is that we are not talking about the same bank so we don't like when we go with them we take. I think we took the wine but not the way for yes In maybe not even any of it. I do think we took one. But out of respect for our friends who asked us to rotate like obviously it means something different like it's a symbol instead of the actual for whatever right so they're drinking actual blood and dating the moment. Yeah yes so on. Its own you think about you. You take away the christianity from it. You're like this is all fucked up. But that's chris jazz all. Yeah yeah but when you like yet. I think i even think most catholics either don't realize that that's they. Think or have forgotten. Yeah you know because like cover missions. You're young and you don't care that point. I feel like it's the same thing with like people who complain about. How like me is raised but then still eat me. That like disconnect hunt hundred so crazy. You're comparing the two but it's a very good. I think you're right. I think it's very good comparison. So i get back from this vacation and i'm over mary's house and he's over there and i'm telling them about this and he gets here if he was so mad. He told me that i was going to hell. "And now on to our guest. Tessa bilecki has always loved the diverse peoples and cultures around our planet. And studied Russian and French preparing for a career in international relations. Instead, she cofounded a monastic community and four retreat centers in the United States, Canada, and Ireland. She left monastic life in 2005 and cofounded the desert foundation, exploring the wisdom of the desert, with the special focus on peace and reconciliation among Jews, Christians and Muslims. The desert foundation lives online at sand in sky dot work. Tessa has served as a professor and a retreat and pilgrimage leader. She has been engaged in inner spiritual dialog for decades, beginning with Europa's groundbreaking Buddhist Christian dialogs in 1981. She is the public speaker at venues throughout the world and a prolific writer. Tessa is currently working on a memoir and now lives as an urban hermit in Tucson, Arizona. In this episode of messages business, Tessa, and I discussed how Catholicism taught her to be earthy. We examine how pain, and the healing process allow for transformation. And how suffering can help us to know union with God. We consider what healthy asceticism is. And how we're called to honor the goodness of all God creates. We also examine inter spiritual dialog, and why it's important for contemplatives to be in relationship with people from other faith traditions. Lastly, we explore the creative process of making order of the chaos. Enjoy. Tell us about lucky. Welcome so much message this business. Thank you, Julia. I'm excited. Now, I know you're joining from Arizona where you're living at an urban hermitage. And you and your friend, father Dave Denny, co lead the desert foundation. Yet, for 40 years, you were a mother abbess of carmelite monasteries. What would you say have been some of the most significant moments that have helped you to gain clarity about who God is calling you to be? I was born Catholic. I'm a cradle Catholic. And I'm one of those people who has no horror stories, my entire Catholic life has been wonderful. I love being a Roman Catholic. That doesn't mean that I'm not critical of the institution, but I love the tradition. I love all our deepest teachings. I love the communion of saints. I love the liturgical year. I love the images and symbols..

Yeah however given wide range valuations for individual pieces and the inability of dr hartman to even estimate the value of these pieces. The court declines to you to an average value to award damages for these titles. David working valued the collection at twenty five thousand dollars but ask the judge to triple the damages. For what his attorney miles. Green hard called quote one destruction of the property. Like how old was this kid. Forty three forty three ten more way. What's so this forty three year. "Here's all there is to the case. Like i said earlier archie carter. Mr messner is man. Servant was returning to the house late that night when he noticed a light on in the attic as carter got out of his car he saw through the open attic window. Mr messner nodding a rope around his neck. The other end of the road was tied to the to a rafter. Then mr messner calmly kicked away the small stool he was standing on and that was it. Harder found the house doors locked. He had forgotten his keys so he ran to a neighbor and telephone me. He reported to me. Exactly what i told you said the sheriff when i got out to the messner house i had to force force the front door then carter and i dashed up three three then. Carter dash up three floors to the attic. Mr messner was dead. The corner had no doubt death was from hanging. The attic floor was clear except for little stool that lay overturned by the door and a broken. Clay jug that must have been hit by the stool concluded the sheriff. I like to go out to the house again. Halogen said halogen from what you've told me of carter story he's lying. How did halogen. No he went to the house to do again. Let's see archie. Carter mr messner manser. It was returning to the house late that night. When he noticed a light on the adding as carter got to his got out of his car he saw through the open attic window. Mr messner nodding a rope around his neck. The other end of the road was tied to a rafter then. Mr messner calmly kicked away. The small still standing on and that was it. Carter found the house doors locked. He had forgotten this key so he ran to a neighbor in telephone me. How did he lock the door. What do you mean when he latte like he returning why he couldn't have. How did he locked the door and couldn't get back in. Well maybe mr. Mr locked the door buddy forgotten keys why that's different. He's the guy he hung himself. Who hung i know but like the guy. Yeah yeah he was is returning to the house. Where where we're writing of his keys. Yeah i think that's a little problematic. He reported to be exactly what i said to you. When i got out the messner house i had to force the front door. Then carter and. I dashed up three floors to the attic. Mr messner was dead. The corner has no doubt death was from hanging. The attic door was clear except for the little stool that lay overturned by the door and broken. Clay jug them. Acid hit the that must have been hit by the stool concluded. The sheriff anything on your end with the key thing. I mean the only thing i can think of is depending on how big the attic is. How could he see into the attic to see him hanging himself but the stool be kicked all the way over to the door. Alright so i initially agree with tessa. The key thing which made no sense to me however michelle's fucking on fire way damn harshly or. I'm not even joking. I was. I thought it was the key to keeping seemed a little suspect. Like you have your car key. And i carry returning. It doesn't make sense. Yeah however archie carter claimed he saw caro messner kick the kicking small sue from under him however standing on the ground can never seen a small stool through attic window. Three stories above him. Yeah oh okay. Yeah.

I was gonna call 'em kobayashi meru but i know that's not hit. That's from star trek acco. Yasha meru is from A chicken wing will set you back three minutes and thirty seconds whom habits chicken wing even more if you choke on bone. I'm gonna read the story in interject when you want. Because i it was a very interesting read. It's hard to be a tasty hotdog especially when that's loaded with onions cheese onions and cheese. But really but is it really worth thirty. Six minutes of your life Yeah not doing anything with thirty six. Probably experts from the university of michigan. So it's hard to trust them out experts from but they did go blue last election. So i have a little bit more respect for them. A fair enough experts from the university of michigan have assessed the nutritional impact of almost six thousand foods to determine how they affect individuals lifespan. The researchers determined the health burden of various foods and then scaled up to a standard serving size to create nutritional health index. According to the results a hotdog will shorten your life by thirty six minutes by chicken. Wing will set you back three minutes and thirty seconds and anyone that actually eat hotdogs actually think like a dog would like langston. There are dogs like the food. You feed your kid growing up. My co teacher says solomon salman. That's not shocking. All to me. It's like they'll be shrugging. And i quote for example. The sixty one grams of processed meat in dog sandwich result in twenty seven minutes health. What of healthy life loss due to this amount of processed meat alone then concerning the other risk factors like the sodium and trans fat mattie acids inside the hotdog counterbalanced by the benefit of its. Oh poly you in polyunsaturated fat fibres wires here of thirty six minutes of healthy life loss per hot. So what if you eat a hot dog and then immediately eat to folsom nuts. Yeah well you don't offset it enough right thirty six minutes thirty six minutes but then you eat. Two handfuls of nuts one handful can increase at twenty six minutes than the second handful can increase in another twenty six minutes offsetting the hotdog anthem. Heres Why Tesla Is so Important

"Everybody raum our here and today we're gonna be talking about a couple of really important reports. First tesla's most recent impact report which has a ton of fascinating details and it won't go through the highlights. There that release also coincided with a huge new report on climate change by the will spend some time on that as well and then we've got a few other quick hits of news which will run through at the beginning. Quick look at tesla stock another relatively low volume day to day to start the week off just under fifteen million shares traded but tussles up two point one percent on the day to seven hundred and thirteen dollars. Seventy six cents that compared to the nasdaq up about two tenths of a percent. Cosstalk did see an upgrade today from jeffries and almost philippa who schwa- upgrading from neutral to buy which as we've talked about upgrades like that where they're actually rewriting. The stock those are more significant to analysts than press targeted adjustments. But that being said he did increase his price. Target from seven hundred dollars per share up to eight hundred fifty. From the note quote valuing tesla is as challenging as ever we raise our discounted cash flow base price target from seven hundred dollars to eight hundred fifty dollars on higher profitability and accelerated growth. While at thirty five percent five year compound annual growth rate. we remain below tessa. Guidance of fifty percent as trend growth desa currently trades on nine times revenue and sixty two times earnings before interest and tax a level disconnected with auto multiples but in our view more consistent with net growth lack of legacy issues and wider addressable markets including energy generation and storage and one. Quick little note here. Just because i do see these inflated allot tesla has guided for greater than fifty percent growth compounded annually for vehicle deliveries. That doesn't necessarily mean revenue would grow at fifty percent. Plus obviously it very well could but that's not what tesla has specified so to me. It's not super clear but it does look like in this case. Jefferies is comparing their revenue forecasts tesla's vehicle delivery guidance and tennessee that a lot so just wanted to point that out next year. We've got an update on giga texas. From joe tag mayer. He does drawn flyovers there and remember last week. We had talked about him here. He that tussle was going to be doing a test. Production run for the mentawai next week. Which would not be this week

"To the five. Am miracle studios. I am here with my wife. Tessa so we just had this conversation a few minutes ago about how you think this. Hello is really awkward. Because we've been together in the house for a while I i work across the hall three to be like hello like we haven't seen each other at all today. Yes weird podcast. Personality that turns on with me. When the microphones nearby. I just become someone else which i might be good for performance sake but maybe as awkward for but i mean when you say hi. It's natural to say hi act but that's true. We've just like eight in lunch together. Whatever yes well anyway. So let's get today's whatever awkwardness that was. Today is an exciting conversation. A we a listen to the intro to this podcast. You just heard what i announced to. Which is that's tessa. And i are pregnant. Although that phrase pregnant always comes across awkward my head. Because i'm pretty sure. I'm not pregnant but i might be well if you just say that i'm pregnant. It makes it seem like you had nothing to do with yeah. This was a partnership in that regard Yeah the last time that you are on the show talking about parenting and kids. We had this two part episode series. This is from three years ago where we talked about our journey the fertility journey to bring maisy into the world our first daughter and kind of the story around her bertha chaos of that's all links and the show notes for free. If you have not heard that birth story it is a wild one. I want you definitely want to hear. Kind of a little shocker. I delivered the baby or test delivered. I caught anyway so that will be in the show notes for episode but today we went talk about a lot of parenting techniques strategies changes productivity systems. Pretty much all the things that i have done since we had maisy. And since that whole thing began for us new life chapter and i want to discuss that from the perspective of a productivity guy from a new parenting perspective for us and just kind of that life that took place and what our world looks like now and what it might look like in a year when we have two daughters. That's right the next one is another daughter two daughters next year. And so that's going to be a big shift so let's go back and talk about life before maisy life before parenting My most of my podcast was recorded prior sommese so as kind of a jeff sanders centric perspective and now my perspective has evolved and grown quite a bit to include much more of the family perspective. So take us back to what your life is like prior to macy. Yeah so. I think we were. We always have been sort of independent in our marriage..

Tesla’s Demand Is Through the Roof

"That's the stock. After popping up in the pre market from the story this morning did fade throughout the day. Finishing down one point one percent to six hundred and sixty three dollars fifty four cents that compared to the nasdaq which recovered to end the day. Finishing up four tenths of a percent as getting into the electric story. This was published about three hours before market open today. Article headline reads tesla's demand is through the roof already. Sold out this quarter. Electric rates quote tesla's currently seeing exponentially strong demand for its vehicles as it is already sold out for the quarter according to sources familiar with the matter and quote expanding on that they also right that quote sources familiar with the matter told electric that tessa communicated to employees that production capacity for the second quarter is already sold out with still almost two months left in the quarter and quote. This would follow. Elon musk's comment on the qn earnings call at the beginning of last week. Where he said demand is the best they've ever seen now. It's not really unusual for tesla to be quote unquote sold out for a quarter. I would say happens. Most quarters in fact but generally that happens in waves in accordance with how tesla decides to you. Prioritize shipments of vehicle for example were five weeks into the quarter. At this point in time it would be pretty typical for maybe international deliveries to be sold out as tessa would be prioritizing and be production of for overseas markets so they have time to ship it deliver it within the same quarter then a few weeks after that we might predominantly see the east coast being sold out and tesla just prioritizing production for delivery in california where that surround time is the fastest selling out for an individual quarter. Wouldn't be anything new but to do it at this point in the quarter again just five weeks in would seem to be. I don't know probably the earliest. We've seen that happen in the last couple of years. Oftentimes and past quarters. We've also seen tesla offer a small quarter and incentive to make sure that people either take delivery when they're scheduled or as a way of balancing demand in a specific location because tussle authorship vehicles before they actually have orders in anticipation of demand in that location. But of course you can never forecast those things perfectly so some of those quarter and incentives can help bounce those out notably. I didn't see any indication of doing anything like that in key. New Tesla Powerwall, China Protest, Volkswagen Investigation

"Year and stay. We've got some news. On tesla energy. A new energy product actually called the power while plus we'll go through the details on that then we also have an update on the situation on the protest in china and some news on volkswagen slash volkswagen. I stay for tesla stock today especially in a downmarket. Tessa finishing up almost five percent. I green day sense earnings to seven hundred nine dollars. Forty four cents that compared to the nasdaq down about nine tenths of a percent. Interestingly on the rise today this was the highest volume day for tesla of the week and sense earnings about forty million shares trading hands. Even though fridays in general tend to be about five to ten percent less volume as we learned during the s. and p. five hundred inclusion analysis period. So interesting to see that. I didn't see a whole lot of news that would have driven the stock today. But oftentimes things that are not. News-based are what's driving the stock right. So let's talk about the power wall plus this was posted yesterday on reddit by user tang. Who said that they were just finalizing their designed for tessler today in san interesting thing power while plus they have shared at the spec sheet for the power while plus and this is a different product than tesla shows online with the power while to now a lot of the specs are the same here but what it looks like tesla has done has integrated some of the components that previously would have been separated in what looks like a continued effort to increase the ease of insulation. We heard yulon talk a lot about this. On tests earnings call and of course we had heard from on the week prior on twitter that tesla solar whether the solar glass roof or rooftop solar would only be sold with an accompanying power wall on the earnings call. Ilan said that he believes this is the most important thing about the solitary of situation noting that installations would be much easier because power from solar would only ever go to the power wall then the power. Walt self would be the only thing that we need to interact as a power supply to the house. Or interact with the grit. It sounds like increasing. The power capability of the power wall was also a key component. Here so not changing the energy but allowing it to provide greater power to be able to handle peak power

Q1 Tesla Earnings Report and Shareholder Letter Analysis

"Our here and today we're going to go through with tesco's earnings report. They just reported earnings. They did deliver a beat reading through all the numbers here and then a couple of takeaways from the call and then we'll also after this livestream head into the earnings call and will livestream that as well. I'll take notes so make sure to check that out the link for that will be in the show notes but let's get into the numbers here so starting off with top line here we can see tussles. Total sales came in at just over ten point. Three billion ten point three eight nine billion as a little bit ahead of analysts consensus a little bit ahead of my numbers but basically in the right ballpark. We did see kind of a mixed. Though in between the categories automotive sales came in about where we expected but a lot of that was driven by regulatory credits. So tesla actually new record for regulatory credit sales. Quarter almost half. A billion dollars of fifty. Four percent more than expected for six percent higher than last year Fifty nine percent higher than what i had expected with three hundred twenty five million so that means that my average selling prices my forecast there were a little bit high. And tesla made up the difference there with regulatory credit sales energy sales so just about half a billion dollars there in revenue little bit below where the street had forecasted twelve percent below Thirty percent below where i had forecasted but still quite a bit of an improvement over year over year up seventy percent so if we look down here we can see that the reason i'm zoom in a little bit here. The reason that that happened was because tess only Four hundred and forty five megawatt hours of energy storage versus We look at you for almost three times more than three times that amount. So tesla definitely saw drop there in terms of energy storage That is leading to that lower revenue in energy sales. They also lost quite a bit of money on energy. You can see negative twenty percent gross margin there. That's definitely the lowest that we've ever seen from tesla and continues the down trend that we've been seeing for the last four quarters so not a great sign there but as we've seen tesla did raise the price on solar roof there now knowing solar with power wall. So they're doing a lot of things here to improve their profitability here. But we just haven't seen that come to fruition quite yet so hopefully over the next couple of quarters. Tessa can get that figured out. Because i was about one hundred million dollar drag on prophet which is pretty significant when we look at tesla's overall profitability

TSLA is The Chosen One Says Morgan Stanley, Price Target to $810

"Everybody rob power here and today. We're talking about a new note on tesla's stock from morgan stanley. They have increased their price targets significantly. Today after hours. We also have some news on the full. Self-driving beta report on monowai gross margins from china and some news that riven may be raising some more capital taking a look at the stock tussle. Today finished up zero point seven percent to seven hundred and thirty five dollars eleven cents that actually did trail the nasdaq which was up about one percent. But hereafter hours worth. Things have started to get more interesting. After morgan stanley released their updated tussle note. Tesla has jumped by about ten to fifteen dollars. One and a half two percent to read around seven hundred fifty dollars per share otherwise news on tesla was fairly light today. So we're gonna spend most of our time here looking at that note. And as i always say when we look at analyst notes a lot of this is just contextual and it gives us good jumping off points for discussion and things like this also gives us good perspective and insight into the kind of information. That's being circulated around the street. So right off the bat here. This morgan stanley note comes with a great headline. They title the no quote the chosen. One tesla industrializes internet of cars target two eight hundred and ten dollars and quote. That is a huge fifty percent increase over the previous price. Target of five hundred and forty dollars per share. They write quote. We update our forecasts and long-term assumptions. Following better-than-expected cue for deliveries sixty one percent year over year growth and five billion dollar capris raising twenty thirty volume to five point. Zero million units versus three point eight million and taking the price target two hundred ten dollars. Tesla is richly valued for a reason reiterate overweight and quote. Okay so what has changed. Here with morgan stanley's assumptions that has led to this fifty percent price targeted increase while they say they had better than expected volume this year. You four specifically. There's been a significant capillaries. And of course tesla was added to the s. and p. five hundred. So they beat morgan stanley's projection. They have risked and they've been added the s. and p. five hundred which has reduced the float effectively reducing the supply of tesla shares as for the actual changes to their model driving this higher price target. They say that quote the majority of the price target increase comes from the impact of our higher volume assumptions in our model and quote as i said they have increased their twenty thirty delivery forecast from three point. Eight million vehicles to five point two million vehicles and they say that they have now added to factories to their forecast for twenty thirty bringing their total tesla. Plant count to ten. I think that factory count is actually probably pretty close but that would only be you know. Five hundred eighty thousand vehicles per factory by twenty thirty. But it's become very clear. That tesla actually has ambitions of producing two million vehicles or so per factory per year. At least in the case of texas and dig your berlin shanghai. They've said one million plus so even just those factories plus fremont if can hit their production targets in those factories. Gets you to more than five. Point two million that jonas projecting here for twenty thirty as for their earlier year forecasts for twenty twenty one they have increased their projection from seven hundred seventy eight thousand previously now to seven hundred ninety two thousand and as a reminder just as recently as july they had actually been projecting just six hundred and twenty thousand four twenty twenty one so they've actually up that by about thirty percent in just the last six months for twenty twenty two the forecasting one point one five million. I'm not sure what that was previously for. Twenty twenty three. Then they are up from one point. Three five million previously now to one point seven million the fun thing about these increased volume targets from morgan stanley. Is that a few months ago. They did what they called. A great tesla rating. They started including things like mobility services as a recurring revenue from autonomy in their price target. So they're sort of having this ongoing opera moment this year. That as they now add vehicle volume into their forecast they now have to add additional services and revenue margin as well and that is where the game changes in terms of valuation for tusla. And the thing is you. Don't even need a fully autonomous robot taxi type of service to start adding that services revenue in when tesla's starts offering full self driving as a subscription. I think that is going to open a lot. Of analyst is to how tesla's business model is structured and will be increasingly structured going forward leveraging software. It's already easy to say. As i've said in the past that if you want to compare valuations show me another automaker that is selling a ten thousand dollar software option then we can make those comparisons but because that is all sort of right now lumped into the same revenue the same margin line on tussles earnings. People just aren't willing to recognize that yet as a separate line of business when tesla's starts offering full self driving a subscription even if they don't break that out on their earnings that forces a change in how analysts are forecasting and modeling tesla they have to start forecasting recurring high-margin revenue right. Now that's basically all just being pulled forward into that simple ten thousand dollar option which is great but it also makes it easier to ignore the other factor making it easier to ignore right now. Is that a big portion of that is still currently deferred revenue. So it's not actually showing up in earnings. But as tessa delivers more features this year less of that is going to be deferred tussles valuation in and of itself is playing a role here too because it has become so massive analysts have to cover this. They have to cover well. They're getting more and more resources to cover it. They're getting more and more questions as tesla's been added to the s. and p. five hundred those benchmarked funds managers. They need to know what to do with the stock so the coverage is just getting more and more intense and again because the evaluation hide they're going to be a lot of analysts running numbers sort of back testing against that valuation. Saying okay to justify this. This is what needs to happen for the company.

Airbnb’s IPO Will Be Hot. Why Its Stock Will Be Worth the Price.

"Well for Airbnb. We're looking at evaluation around 42 billion, which is pretty remarkable because in its last round of private fundraising, its valuation was something around 26 billion on. Of course, that's that. That's the high end of the range there that 42 billion Previously the high end of the range of 35 billion, so sort of the picture we're getting. As we get closer and closer to this company finally going public. It's clear there's some demand for it. Perhaps oversubscribed with this. I P o. So it's given us this Situation where they can keep more richly pricing their shares on and get a bigger valuation. I think this really just speaks to the times when you have a hotel type company having so much demand behind in, you know when we're just seeing this general rebound in equities. Yeah, it is interesting that Airbnb has held up so much better than traditional hotels have during this pandemic. What are potential investors? Saying about this company what's making it so attractive? I think a lot of it has to do well with one just the general environment when it comes to ah sort of hotel Leisure Recreation type Cos they have the vaccine coming onto the market. So there's optimism there. The world can get back to normal. But with Airbnb specifically, what they really have tried to do is make it a company that caters to a customer base that Perhaps wants to do more domestic traveling Airbnb. You know, of course, is it is in many cities. So it's easy for that. If you want to, you know, rent a cabin somewhere or something like that. They really been very public, touting their various hygiene protocols that they're having their host do And I think in that sort of sense, it has made investors excited that This type of company that they had been looking forward to. I peeling for some time now. We'll also be able to whether this pandemic we're seeing and then out perform when the pandemic in and and society starts to normalize. What about Airbnb his path to profitability? It's not there yet. It's certainly not there. But look that has not stopped investors before. A lot of these IPO's have done extremely well, despite the fact that they might not be profitable bowl to begin with. I pose. For example, recent IPO's have outperformed the S and P 500 tremendously. Their prices have more than doubled so far this year, which is again incredible for what are typically More risky investments often without profit, but it just shows the sort of general appetite for more risk right now, that's that's coming into the market. And look, Tessa was a great example of a company that surpassed Toyota and valuation before was even able to book Anania will profit, of course. Now it's getting included into the S and P

Goldman Sachs on S&P 500, Model Y Range, Tesla Police Vehicle

"Everybody rob our here today. We were talking about tessa. Stock and the s. and p. five hundred inclusion process. We have an updated note from goldman. Sachs talking a little bit about funds that may need to purchase tesla. We also have some news on the model y and then a recently published study by the fremont police department on using tesla as a police vehicle. All right so i up on the stock tussles. Green streak has come to an end finishing down one point nine three percent today to four hundred eighty nine dollars. Sixty one cents that compared to the nasdaq down zero point four percent and two again quickly. Check on the volume. As we've been doing for the last few days it was quite a bit lower today. Only about thirty two million shares traded hands. That was the two hundred and first highest volume rank day for the last year. So very low. That's out of about two hundred and fifty trading days was actually even below the one month average of thirty three million shares and well below the three month and twelve month averages around sixty million shares debt. If you're curious why. I keep talking about volume. It's because i anticipate a lot of shares needing to be purchased. So i do want to keep an eye on volume as we head into the snp inclusion. I do expect most of the related buying four. That will happen around inclusion. But who knows how much for there's going to be so i think if we see a lot of really heavy volume heading into that that might indicate a little bit more front running. So it's not normally something i watched super closely and i'm definitely not a technical analysis based investor. But just something. I'm kind of finding interesting for less period time. Quick related note next week. Is the week of thanksgiving. So the nasdaq will be closed on thursday november twenty. Sixth all day and then on friday the twenty seventh. We closed early so reopened until one pm eastern time. As for my schedule. I'll probably take thursday off and potentially friday. We'll see on that. But hopefully the seven episodes that. I put out this week as well as two interviews that i did the most recent of which is on the talking tesla podcast. By the way we'll make up for that next week. Okay so we've got a bit of an update here on the s. and p. five hundred situation a new note from goldman sachs. Has shed a little bit of light. On that. portion of funds that is benchmarked to the s. and p. five hundred remember. This is the portion of funds that their compensation is impacted based on the relative performance to the performance of the s. and p. five hundred versus the tracking funds. They're literally trying to replicate the performance of the s. and p. five hundred identically. So if we look at our little spreadsheet here that we've looked at many times based on today's closing price for the s&p five hundred and four tesla. It looks like the waiting would be about one point two five percent for tesla and the s&p index so the p last update. They gave us said that there was about four point. Six trillion in assets tracking the index. Saw one point two six percent of that should be allocated to tesla shares. That's about fifty eight billion dollars. Almost one hundred nineteen million shares and then additionally there is six point six trillion in benchmarked assets. So that's what we're talking about here with this goldman sachs update and one point. Two six percent of that six point six trillion would be eighty three billion or a hundred and seven million shares so focusing on that slice for now goldman sachs in an updated note. Overnight said quote of the one hundred and eighty nine large-cap core funds in our universe one hundred and fifty seven funds that manage around five hundred billion in assets under management did not hold tesla on september thirtieth and quote. Okay presumably here then. The one hundred eighty nine funds that goldman is referring to here are benchmarked against the s. And p five hundred. I don't have the full note. So i'm not sure if they stated that clearly but i do think it's the best assumption we can make so they're saying five hundred billion in assets under management for those one hundred and eighty nine funds. That's five hundred billion of the six point six trillion that we're talking about here so that's about seven and a half percent of the slice so then golden is saying that of those one hundred and eighty nine funds. One hundred and fifty seven of them didn't hold any tesla that's only seventeen percent of those funds so we don't necessarily know how the dollar distribution looks if one of those funds makes up the majority of that five hundred billion assets under management and they hold tesla the dollar percentage will look very different. But for now it's just assume it's the same at seventeen percent and then let's extrapolate that percentage to the six point six trillion and benchmarked funds. Broadly obviously quite a few steps. There were the math. Can break down. This is just a theoretical exercise but if we apply that then we could assume that of the six point six trillion and benchmarked funds about one point one trillion of that may already have a position and tesla leaving about five point five trillion. That does not so drop that. Six point six trillion down to five point five trillion. Assuming others already have tessa positions. If all those funds want to be equal weight on tesla they would need to buy sixty nine billion dollars. Tesla nice which one hundred and forty two million scherzer's. Obviously they could buy more. That could buy less. Could by not at all but doing anything other than being equal weight on tesla is an active choice to deviate their performance versus their benchmark based on how tesla's said another way if they don't know about tesla the safest thing for them to do is just to be equal weight so that it's not influencing their relative performance if we hop back to that goldman note per the bloomberg article on the topic. They say quote assuming those funds chose to hold the carmaker at benchmark. Wait they would need to buy eight billion dollars of the stock or about two per cent of tussles market value the analysts set and quote so many of you may have seen the headline articles about that today. That's just goldman saying that of these funds. These five hundred billion in assets under management those funds. We need to buy a billion to be equal weight. So there's walk in clients through the exact math and we've been walking through here for awhile. But on their universe as they say which is just a subset that seven and a half percent subset of the six point six trillion that the snp says is benchmarked against the s. and p. five hundred. We've now seen a couple of separate confirmations that overall the we've been walking through here is correct. I we had the snp announcement which indicated that okay. Yes it's going to be about a one percent weight that equates to about fifty billion in terms of shares that need to be bought so check that box and then here we have goldman sachs now the benchmark funds and how they would need to buy eight billion and that lines up well with the math that we've been talking about on the bench marked funds so i think good to see that i still don't really know how all this is gonna be able to work again if all that is equal weight. That's you know. Thirty eight percent of tesla's float you can't just take thirty eight percent of afloat off the market over the course of two weeks

"Tusla's joining the s. and p. Five hundred on monday december twenty first based on yesterday's closing price that would make it one of the top ten companies in that index and with the after hours move the market cap is about four hundred and thirty billion dollars makes it the eighth biggest and in striking distance companies like walmart and visa now because of the large size of the addition. The dow jones indices is seeking feedback from the investment community on. How exactly to do this. Determine whether tusla should be added all at once or in two separate trenches the decision about which company tessa will replace. will be made at a later date and the gain in the stock would make elon. Musk the world Richest person passing mark zuckerberg and. There's so many interesting angles to this. The i was just trying to figure out it used to be. We'd like the i megan's and the press techy ins and the The ins and they were all along. They were really obnoxious. Vocal people that own the stock. And if you said anything they get mad. Tesla the musketeers. Whatever you wanna call them. They started out like that but then they were replaced on the total obnoxious side by the people that are short this stock santoli and there still. Are they still short. This stock the tests lacquers and think it so mad and they got all these charts. And you're gonna be wrong. You're going to be wrong. And it gets so animated in. We're such you know we're just do pt. Reporters report on tesla. And let all this. When do they throw in the town. Is that when we say they largely have. This is not nearly as heavily shorted stock because it was. I mean just the rise in the in the shares of basically taking care of of a lot of that but it's fascinating because the exact reason that so many people were short all the fundamental Challenges the valuation that. You really have to stretch to computer based on what the company is worth today. In terms of the financials that's also what probably kept it. Out of the snp to this point which is just a lack of of predictable consistent profitability and this idea that it was inflated beyond its its economic footprint so all that stuff is fascinating right now and the fact that s and p look three months ago they took a pass on it. Who knows exactly why but it seems like they wanted the fever to break in the stock a little bit by that point to stop going from two seventy five to five hundred three weeks and so it sort of has flattened out and and maybe digested some of that and it just becoming too hard to mechanical a four hundred billion dollar company out of the index. So it's it's pretty fascinating. I

Virus surge breaking infection records across the US

"Across the us. Lear seeing a record-breaking surge in kobe cases on thursday the us reported more than one hundred and fifty thousand new cases just a day alone. The scary thing about it is that if you look on a curve. It's just going straight up but we don't know where this curve ends. We don't know where the peak is. This could be just the very beginning of the curve. That's mine one a science reporter for the post. He's been looking into why there's been such a huge spike. In kobe cases this part of fall surge. A lot of experts were warning about getting colder. People are moving indoors but also i think there's just this pandemic fatigue people are tired of taking precautions that plays a huge role. You've got a lot more activity going on. You know back in spring. Even the summer a lot was still shut down. People were not going out there. Being more careful you've got a lot of economic activity resuming and that's gonna lead to you know more spread. I also wonder if there's personally like a fear factor here. I feel like if you think back to how he felt in april and may just felt like there was this sense of being consumed by fear of getting sick and hearing all the horror stories and that fear is there. I think that because so many of us are living our lives. It's easy to forget like well. You know it's like. I'm gonna take precautions to the best of my ability. But i'm still carrying on with my life and i wonder if that has started to edge out a little bit of the precautions. That people were taking previously totally. I think that's like a very big factor in this. It's just we're you know there's this whole all this talk of like we're learning to live with it. That like really downside of that is we really are learning to live with it in that. Just you know a thousand people dying. Every day is like a matter of fact if he told someone that you know in january like you know. In a few months we're going to have people just dying in droves day and people aren't gonna care would be unthinkable back then. So where are we seeing the most intense hot spots and outbreaks right now there are hot spots are concentrations especially in the midwest and the west. But it's everywhere this time you know. In spring it was new york and california in summer you talked about the sun bell. Texas florida georgia. But this time. It's just everywhere. The hardest hit spots though are a lot of these places. That didn't have it before. North dakota wisconsin montana. These are the last frontiers untouched by the virus. And once it's reached there it seems like is just taking off and for the places in the country that are experiencing these outbreaks for the first time. Are there particular challenges for them. That's different from something like new york where they have now had multiple experiences with going through this rise in cases. There's the problem of not having experience a lot of hospitals In new york california they have lot of that built inexperience in their. Icu's there's also this factor. That's hard to talk about but it's just politics a lot of these harder hit states right now. They're republican conservative. These are a lot of the states for the people. Listen to trump. When he said you know you could wear a mask or not wear mass. We can learn to live with this just as bad as the flu. These are kind of the key audiences for that. And so when it's hitting these states and people are not reacting to it like you might have seen in some of the democratic states that's a really potent factor as well so obviously we're seeing this very precipitous rise and the infection rates. But what are we seeing in the death rates and the number of people who are dying. The greatest thing that's happened in our fight against the virus is we've driven down the death rate and it's just the wild success that is attributed to we know more about the virus like you re think back to those times in new york. You had doctors kind of discovering Pruning people's bodies like putting them on their stomachs turning them. You have icu nurses who just know you know went to put someone on ventilator better and when not to when you do everything you can to avoid that because of the death rate that comes with that so a of this. It's just hard one experience. And that's the thing that's really worrisome. This time around. All those icu. Staff that is really specialized expertise. You can have nurses come in from other departments and try to help out but as those hospitals get stretched thinner and thinner in the icu expertise. Kind of ood evaporates death rate. There's a very good chance of it rising. And it's not some like set thing that's in stone. Once you achieve this death rate will never go up again. It changes and fluctuates. Even between states can change and fluctuate That's so interesting. I hadn't thought about that before. Because i feel like at the beginning of the pandemic so much of our conversation was are they're going to be. Nf doctors healthcare workers. What happens if some of them get sick. How is staff gonna be stretched thin just from the perspective of human bodies to throw at this problem. But now what you're seeing. Is that this improved. Death rate is only because so many of those healthcare workers actually had that experience from the last seven or eight months and that in of itself is not something that we can rely on as the problem gets larger. Yes what's going to happen this time around. Why people are so worried about this. Wave is very soon. You're gonna see all the problems that we had before starting to pile up but new ones too on top of that. So we all this time. But we never really fixed are shortages of p for all the trump administration's talk of how they were gonna take charge the really just refuse to use the powers. They had in the last few months to push companies and coordinate our country's manufacturing distribution of ppe and same thing on testing. I mean there's been a really great increase of testing. We've increased by a lot but the demand for testing is awesome increased dramatically. So there are those past problems. But you're also gonna have a shortage of expertise because last time if you remember a beacon call in third doctors and nurses that came rushing to help with the virus everywhere across the country. You can't you can't send people certain place. Everywhere is running out of doctors and nurses in icu expertise. That's something that is really concerning this time around. So if this is what we're already starting to see and we're here the middle of november. Obviously it's getting colder. More people are going to be indoors at the rest of the winter. And then there's also thanksgiving and christmas and these times of year where it feels really really difficult to just say. I'm not going to interact with anybody. How do we expect this to continue to unfold in the next couple of months. Yeah this part. I feel bad i feel like every time you invite me on the show like really tessa mystic. But there's so many things that are kind of pointing this the wrong way so you do have like the holidays coming up if you look at what happened in canadian thanksgiving which is earlier than ours. It trove infections way up there. There's a lot of worry that the same thing is going to happen with a double whammy of thanksgiving christmas. You have colder weather which makes helps the virus survive better with less humidity the pandemic fatigue which is going to increase. But there's this added thing now where there's also this political coal polarization. That is very dangerous so if you think about it. We have ten weeks until the biden inauguration during those ten weeks people are saying well. You know we're going to reset. The effort will get our ducks in a row. And we'll do it right this time. In those ten weeks you could have the infection rate. Doubling
