Senators Want FTC Enforcement on Autopilot

"Aren't so pretty. Nice day for tesla stock today shaking off some of the red from earlier this week. Finishing up three and a half percent to six hundred eighty dollars ninety nine cents comparatively. The nasdaq was down nine. Tenths of a percent most of that drop happening in the last hour. Two hours of trading after the fed minutes came out so the minutes from the federal reserve's meeting today indicating that they are considering tapering off their monthly asset purchases sometime in the near term but obviously those things can and often do change so the market reacting to that towards the end of trading and tesla got pulled down a bit as well so pretty strong day for automakers just across the board today so we ejected on this yesterday but will check in again today probably for the last time this week but weekday performance so far tussles down about four percent a little bit less than four percent so far and actually now doing about a half a percent to full percentage point better than gm. Ford's atlanta's volkswagen and neo so despite all the coverage of the knits investigation. If you'd just slept through the first few days of the week which is actually not a bad strategy for an investor and you just looked at automaker performances we to date. You'd have no idea that there was investigation on tesla. And you'd probably say oh tesla's having a pretty good week relative to others so markets down today tesla up and that was despite reports that two. Us senators are currently urging the federal trade commission to open a probe into whether or not tesla used deceptive marketing practices involving drivers systems features which tesla of course calls autopilots and full. Self-driving that is per the wall street journal. They write quote in a letter to the head of the fdic. We con dated wednesday senators. Richard blumenthal of connecticut and ed markey of massachusetts said they have serious concerns about how tesla advertises. Its advanced driver assistance features. Which don't enable vehicles to operate autonomously. They took aim chief executive elon. Musk for some of his comments and quote.

Heres Why Tesla Is so Important

"Everybody raum our here and today we're gonna be talking about a couple of really important reports. First tesla's most recent impact report which has a ton of fascinating details and it won't go through the highlights. There that release also coincided with a huge new report on climate change by the will spend some time on that as well and then we've got a few other quick hits of news which will run through at the beginning. Quick look at tesla stock another relatively low volume day to day to start the week off just under fifteen million shares traded but tussles up two point one percent on the day to seven hundred and thirteen dollars. Seventy six cents that compared to the nasdaq up about two tenths of a percent. Cosstalk did see an upgrade today from jeffries and almost philippa who schwa- upgrading from neutral to buy which as we've talked about upgrades like that where they're actually rewriting. The stock those are more significant to analysts than press targeted adjustments. But that being said he did increase his price. Target from seven hundred dollars per share up to eight hundred fifty. From the note quote valuing tesla is as challenging as ever we raise our discounted cash flow base price target from seven hundred dollars to eight hundred fifty dollars on higher profitability and accelerated growth. While at thirty five percent five year compound annual growth rate. we remain below tessa. Guidance of fifty percent as trend growth desa currently trades on nine times revenue and sixty two times earnings before interest and tax a level disconnected with auto multiples but in our view more consistent with net growth lack of legacy issues and wider addressable markets including energy generation and storage and one. Quick little note here. Just because i do see these inflated allot tesla has guided for greater than fifty percent growth compounded annually for vehicle deliveries. That doesn't necessarily mean revenue would grow at fifty percent. Plus obviously it very well could but that's not what tesla has specified so to me. It's not super clear but it does look like in this case. Jefferies is comparing their revenue forecasts tesla's vehicle delivery guidance and tennessee that a lot so just wanted to point that out next year. We've got an update on giga texas. From joe tag mayer. He does drawn flyovers there and remember last week. We had talked about him here. He that tussle was going to be doing a test. Production run for the mentawai next week. Which would not be this week

"For electric car vehicles. Something's wrong with that equation. This is what they voted for and this is not even a legislative texts kind of just a suggestion list. It literally doesn't exist seventy three billion dollars for clean energy transmission. Oh this is why nancy. Pelosi bought tesla stock. This is why nancy pelosi husband went all in on green energy stocks. You see someone asks me said charlie. Where should i invest my money. I said it's very simple. Go look at nancy. Pelosi's insider trading disclosures and just buy the same stock. She buys she will make sure that public policy makes herself richer if she dumped stock. You dump stock if she buy stock you buy stock. She knows exactly where this is going. Twenty one billion dollars. This is unbelievable. This is what we're senate. Tesla Q2 Production and Delivery Forecast

"We're here today. We're going to go through a second quarter delivery and production forecasts ahead of quarter end which ends tomorrow and then we should get tussles numbers sometime on friday as my expectation may slip into saturday but based on the last few quarters think that'll happen probably friday morning So obviously be back to report on that but today was going to go through what i expect my actual forecast for this quarter based on the information that we have so far. We also have a little bit of other news. So we'll hit that up after the end of the forecast we'll start off here with tesla's stock out before we get into that if you are an audio only listener This is spreadsheet intensive so up at the link down to the video in the show notes. I would recommend that for this right so tussle stock today Fading off a little bit to finish down one point one percent to six hundred eighty dollars. Seventy six cents. That compared to the nasdaq which was slightly positive on the day finishing up about two tenths of a percent so before we get into deliveries. Let's look at what wall street is currently expecting else. Like that is about one hundred ninety eight thousand three hundred vehicles to be delivered in q two. This is as of june twenty fifth from an investor's dot com article. Uh so that's the best source. I have right now for a factset consensus before we you. My actual spreadsheet though just a reminder attended focus mostly on production rather than deliveries. These cars are gonna get delivered eventually so to me production as key. Not how many of those vehicles that tesla produce they're actually able to deliver So we can send most of the time talking about production but i will talk about deliveries as well. So let me flip over to excel here and we can just orient people with how this she set up by now. Most people are familiar about. We basically have periods of time here in the rose. Different sections of Production here in the columns so total fremont shanghai and then we have it split out by sort of rates so weekly rates daily rates and then some breakdowns over here of just individual factories and their weekly rates

Musk Updates on FSD

"Everybody robbing our here We another live episode today. Happy friday everybody. Editor johnson is still working on the project that i mentioned yesterday We're trying to get that out as soon as possible so thought we just do. Another quick live episode today Covering the news so today we've got an update on From elon musk on steve version. Nine and the subscription offering a rumour on china june deliveries more details on panasonic sale of stock another price increase from tesla wall street journal. Got their hands on a plan model so they've reviewed that and then we have a couple other stories as well so we'll start off with the stock tesla today not finishing the run that we have had so far this week in the best fashion down one point one percent today but still really strong week. The nasdaq today was was close to flats a tesla for the week. Actually gaining seven point eight percent. This is the best week. The tesla's had sense me second week of april that compared the nasdaq up two point. Four percent on the week and the s. and p. five hundred up two point seven percent so even with a little bit of a dip here on friday still a strong week. Four tesla overall and breezy high volume. Week so we saw forty percent more volume this week. Roughly a little bit more than that on tesla stock. So i don't people are positioning ahead of Obviously cute you deliveries next week Or what's going on there but certainly an uptick in volume on week for tesla's stock so first thing here. Last night we got an update from moscow yes overnight today out f- st and we seem to be going kind of in half life here. We've gone from two weeks now down to one week so on yesterday saying l. fella version nine but we need to fix him obvious issues before releasing nine hopefully next week. Karpathy Talks Tesla Vision,

"Today. We're gonna be talking about a new presentation over the weekend. By tests director of artificial intelligence andre carpathia andrea shared some thoughts and new details on tesla's transition over to pure vision the removal of radar from the autonomy hardware sweet and some new details on what tesla is doing outside of the vehicle to help push autonomy forward so we got the main points from their will pull a couple of clips out as well but i would recommend watching the entire talk about half an hour long. I'll put the link to that in the show notes we've also got an update from elon. Musk on ai. Day another week. Email from ilan as quarter and approaches some news on subscription offerings from tesla. Couple more data points on the planet model as and gigabyte lint up and down day tesla's stock today but couldn't quite make it to four positive days in a row finishing down four tenths of a percent to six hundred and twenty dollars. Eighty three cents that did compared to the nasdaq which was up eight. Tenths of a percent are at so getting into this andre carpathia presentation these are always really fascinating to listen to. He kicked it off talking about. Just how kind of silly that we have these multi-tonne metal vehicles driving people around being controlled by computers as he puts it and that tesla thinks that they can replace that and should replace that with a silicon computer so one of his first slides here just clearly lays out the advantages of that namely reduce latency and increased awareness. Both in terms of perspective and attentiveness. And of course cost. There's a lot of human resources going into driving around cars today so as we know. Of course this is already leading to you. Advantages improved safety. Andre showed a couple of real world examples. Demonstrating that principle on emergency braking i i think we've all seen clips like that. He also showed a traffic control warning. Someone didn't recognize red light. The car dead and then he showed two clips here which i wanna play. Because i haven't seen clips like this from tussle. Before showing what andre calls pedal misapplication mitigation basically using the vehicles interpretation of the surroundings to stop unintended acceleration when the driver actually meant to hit the brake instead of the accelerator. These are examples from Pedal misapplication mitigation pm. You're a person is embarking from driving spot and the are trying to turn and they mess up and they accidentally it

Motor Trend Reviews Plaid Model S, and and New Battery Details

"Everybody here and stay. We're talking about the first journalist reviews of the new plan model. we've also got an update on the battery capacity. We'll talk about some details behind that we've got an update from dan is on tesla's stock an update on gigabyte lynn news on tussles referral program. And an interesting tweet from elon. Musk that has caused a lot of speculation. Also quick the stock tussle today finishing up about two percent to six hundred and sixteen dollars sixty cents. That compared to the nasdaq also. Strong day up nine tenths of a percent are. Let's start off here with the initial reviews of the model s. so we have one for motor trend. We have one from automotive journalist. Jason kameda whenever tesla has a new vehicle. I always look forward to these. It's kind of a nice time to celebrate what tesla has done with that new vehicle and unlike what we see business news wise from cnbc or reuters. This is automotive new. So the writing is different style. there's a lot of primitives. Nice compliments towards tesla and sometimes some really beautiful writing which again you tend not to see too much in business. News look at trends review here first. So of course. The question that everyone has undermined around this vehicle is can't actually do zero to sixty in under two seconds motor trends answer. Yes but with some stipulation so they actually spent kind of the i. I don't know half or third of this article talking about the requirements that they had for their sixty test run which i think unfortunately it detracts a little bit from their main takeaways. Which of course. We'll talk about as well but they been a fair amount of time talking about how Wanted them to run on a specific track with specific tests conditions. One of those conditions being that the drag strip needed to be prepared with hd which motor trend says as a quote thick black resin that allows cars to accelerate quicker than is possible on normal roads and quote framed that way it does look a little bit manipulative or suspect. But it's not like the hd is common this is a substance that most drag strips are using and using in competition so this is not so unusual thing in quarter mile races. It's just not how motor trend. Test their cars so they wanted to make sure that that part was clear so understanding that they write quote. The plaid model s zips down the quarter mile in a staggeringly quick. Nine point. two five seconds up one hundred fifty two point six miles per hour.

"Go back to that for twenty tweet from twenty eighteen. Tell me a little bit more about the trouble. Daddy lennon too. So the brought must to court Basically because they're saying this is true you didn't have funding secured you misled. Investors sent the stock price up. You know it was nowhere near four twenty at the time. So they ended up settling out of court. He'd have to admit any wrongdoing. But he lost his chairmanship tesla. And musk find a total of twenty million dollars each and he was supposed to run any like market-moving tweets by the company's lawyers kind of the settlement was to sort of get a hold of of this wild twitter. And we've been seeing the tweets alana's sort of famous for being wild on twitter but recently we learned that you didn't really follow the judge's orders. In the case of running his tweets by lawyer right right even after paying forty million dollars was against chairmanship turns out based on this correspondence that the wall street journal through a request that he not running tweets by his lawyers. And the sec's upset that he's not actually following the agreement in the settlement so one of the tweets was about solar reproduction and the other one was him saying that the the stock was too high which actually sent the stock down about ten percent to be clear you on. Musk is still the. Ceo of tesla. Right he is still the. Ceo tesla in a ceo saying that your company's stock prices too high. Seems like a bad idea. Yeah i mean. He just has such an effect on the stock price. And it's like so obvious. Every time he sends a tweet you can chart out. You know how much he sends the tesla's stock upper down. Has anything happened to. Egon tweets by the sec added. The short answer is no There's a lot of back and forth between the sec. And his lawyers lawyers are saying he doesn't really need to run those tweets by them because their opinion Sec tried to hold him in contempt of court for an earlier tweet but the judge was like you guys deal with this and they did by saying okay. Employers have to go re tweets but only when they have to do with production refinances. But that doesn't seem to have stopped him here. I mean sec's only recourse. Would be to try to go back to a federal judge. See if the hold him in contempt or relitigate this whole thing you know get rid of the settlement and try to try to get him in trouble for that original for twenty tweet.

"Everybody rob mauer here. Welcome back to tesla daily after. Hopefully a nice long weekend for many of you. I hope everybody made it through lumbar gate yesterday without tussle daily episode. If you're not sure what. I'm talking about yet with that. Will of course be discussing that in this episode. We also have updates on tusla's move to pure vision. Some i reports on how that's going a minor postponement of the platte model s. delivery event couple product updates tesla's interest in the restaurant business and a couple other stories as well. Somehow we are already now. In june tesla stocks. Starting off the last month of q down zero point two percent pretty quiet on the day to six hundred twenty. Three dollars ninety cents. That compare to the nasdaq also down slightly one tenth of a percent. We'll start off here just quickly on the lumbar support topic. This caused quite a bit of stir this weekend as somebody unread. It took delivery of a new model y and notice that on the passenger seat. The lumbar support control had been removed. So that's the area of the seat that would support your lower back. Previously could move that upper down. Inter out and tesla has decided to remove that from the new model three and model. Why again for the passenger seat. Only driver seat still has the control so understandably pretty disappointing for a customer to have to find that someone was expressing disappointment on this on twitter. Saying they don't like the direction tesla's going raising prices of vehicles but removing features like lamar for the monterey on top of rumors of fasd increased to fourteen thousand dollars without any real added features do fasd. Unless you're a beta tester. You lana plant that saying quote moving. Lamar was removed only in front passenger seat of three slash. Obviously not there. Tesla Is Already Shipping Cars Without Radar Sensors

"Everybody robin our here today. We're gonna be talking about tesla. Moving to their tesla vision. Approach for tommy tesla's announced that they're going to be moving radar hardware from vehicles. Like we had speculated about on mondays episodes. Made this official will talk about the details there. Then we've also got some news on giga berlin and an interesting update on power while production other strong day for tesla stock today finishing up two point four percent to six hundred and nineteen dollars. Thirteen cents that compared to the nasdaq also up on the day. Zero point six percent so following the removal of any mention of radar on tussles website. Earlier this week dell has now explained where they're at in terms of removing the radar hardware via a tesla support page update. The update here is called transitioning to tesla vision tesla rates quote we are continuing the transition to tesla vision or camera based autopilot system beginning with deliveries and may twenty twenty one model three and model y vehicles built for the north. American market will no longer be equipped with radar instead. These will be the first tesla vehicles to rely on camera vision and neural processing to deliver autopilot full. Self-driving and certain active safety features customers ordered before may twenty twenty one and are match with the car with tesla. Vision will be notified of the change through their accounts prior to delivery and quote. Tesla also notes here that for a short period of time while they're transitioning cars without radars may have some limits on auto steer they say maximum speed of seventy five miles per hour. That's versus ninety miles per hour. Normally and the minimum following distance will be longer. They also say that smart summoned an emergency lane departure avoidance may be disabled at delivered so just important understand that that is a temporary measure not all reports on this covered that detail tesla says in the weeks ahead they'll start restoring those features and yeah we've seen time landslip on efi related stuff in the past but fortunately these are pretty minor limitations and they seem to be more precautionary in terms of safety. Maybe with the exception thereof smart summit

Why Tesla Stock Jumped on Monday

"Robin our here today. We're gonna be talking a little bit about tesla stock tests approach with their sensor suite. Plaid delivery timelines. We've got wells fargo. Picking up coverage of tesla stock. Some news on charging and batteries. Nice start to the week. Four tesla's stock today after a relatively quiet news weekend finishing up four point four percent to six hundred and six dollars four cents that compared to the nasdaq up. One point four percent tussle dead tail off a little bit towards the end of the though falling about one percent in the last half an hour well as luck would have it alanis tweeting about bitcoin and does in the last half an hour about eighteen minutes before market close. He tweeted quote spoke with north american. Bitcoin miners they committed to publish current and planned renewable usage and ask miners worldwide to do so potentially promising and quote couple minutes after that he switched over to doj saying quote. If you'd like to help develop those please submit ideas on get hub and read it and quote so inevitably you see that you see out. Great yuan taking the stock again talking about cryptocurrency. Someone already tag me on twitter suggesting this and if you're just casually looking at the stock yes absolutely looks that way but again it is not that simple if we pull up the minute by minute. Chart here tweeted again. Eighteen minutes before close dessel was at about six hundred ten dollars per share at that point in time it had already dropped from six hundred and fourteen before john even tweeted that if we flip over to the nasdaq you can hardly tell the difference there in the last half an hour with how those look the nasdaq trails off there as well and continued to fall in the last eighteen minutes. Just like tesla did in fact tests actually dropped more in the ten minutes before ilan's tweet actually more than two times as much of a drop their as it did ten minutes after tweeden about cryptocurrency even though the nasdaq performed worse in that second block of ten minutes after alonzo tweet so just like before. Yes tempting to throw that in as the narrative you see the stock falling right when you on tweets. But it's just not that simple and this instance is definitely not evidence of that being the case

NTSB Releases Preliminary Report on Fatal Tesla Crash

"Everybody around here and we've got quite a lot to go through. We've got an update from the national transportation safety board on the highly publicized accident involving accessible vehicle in texas a couple of weeks ago. We've got news on tesla. Energy manufacturing batteries and of course elon musk's appearance on saturday. Night live over the weekend rough start to the week. Four tesla's stock finishing down nearly six and a half percent today to six hundred and twenty nine dollars four cents that compared to the nasdaq down over two and a half percent the worst day in a couple of months for the nasdaq and we did see sector rotation today the dow was only down a tenth of a percent as the dow is generally made up of lower growth more value oriented stocks. So i know the tesla down. Six percent can sometimes feel a little bit rough especially for new investors but for context arc's innovation. Etf so a group of a lot of different stocks was down by itself five percent today. Obviously tesla driving a portion of that but certainly the movement was not just isolated to tesla. Today before we get into the news here you may have heard already but my voices still recovering a little bit. So i'll do my best to get through this but apologies for any disruption from that. I i up today. We are revisiting the unfortunate accident back in mid april of decimal ice vehicle in texas. As i'm sure most of you remember this received a ton of media attention because at the time law enforcement said that they were one hundred percent certain that no one was in the driver's seat of the model s. at the time of impact. You may remember that. At the time we went through a number of different reasons why the seemed implausible. And i felt like law enforcement was speaking far too soon saying they were one hundred percent certain of something without even having done a full investigation yet so too soon too much conviction and this led to massive media coverage of this accident. A lot of scrutiny. For tesla you've got consumer reports coming out and running some test about how they can defeat these safety features built in to help prevent people from using autopilot beyond its intended use case just keeps getting piled on all because of this one quote from law enforcement so here we've got the preliminary report from the ntsb quote. The crash trip originated at the owners residents near the end of a cul de sac footage from the owners. Home security camera shows the owner entering the car's driver seat and the passenger entering the front passenger seat. The car leaves and travels about five hundred and fifty feet before departing the road on a curve driving over the curb and hitting drainage culvert a raised manhole and a tree

New Tesla Powerwall, China Protest, Volkswagen Investigation

"Year and stay. We've got some news. On tesla energy. A new energy product actually called the power while plus we'll go through the details on that then we also have an update on the situation on the protest in china and some news on volkswagen slash volkswagen. I stay for tesla stock today especially in a downmarket. Tessa finishing up almost five percent. I green day sense earnings to seven hundred nine dollars. Forty four cents that compared to the nasdaq down about nine tenths of a percent. Interestingly on the rise today this was the highest volume day for tesla of the week and sense earnings about forty million shares trading hands. Even though fridays in general tend to be about five to ten percent less volume as we learned during the s. and p. five hundred inclusion analysis period. So interesting to see that. I didn't see a whole lot of news that would have driven the stock today. But oftentimes things that are not. News-based are what's driving the stock right. So let's talk about the power wall plus this was posted yesterday on reddit by user tang. Who said that they were just finalizing their designed for tessler today in san interesting thing power while plus they have shared at the spec sheet for the power while plus and this is a different product than tesla shows online with the power while to now a lot of the specs are the same here but what it looks like tesla has done has integrated some of the components that previously would have been separated in what looks like a continued effort to increase the ease of insulation. We heard yulon talk a lot about this. On tests earnings call and of course we had heard from on the week prior on twitter that tesla solar whether the solar glass roof or rooftop solar would only be sold with an accompanying power wall on the earnings call. Ilan said that he believes this is the most important thing about the solitary of situation noting that installations would be much easier because power from solar would only ever go to the power wall then the power. Walt self would be the only thing that we need to interact as a power supply to the house. Or interact with the grit. It sounds like increasing. The power capability of the power wall was also a key component. Here so not changing the energy but allowing it to provide greater power to be able to handle peak power

Questions for Tesla / Elon Musk on Earnings Call

"Everybody around our here and they were going to be talking about a few subjects. We have technology has opened up their questions mission process for tesla's q. One earning skull so as do most quarters. We're going to go through some of the questions that have asked the questions that i've asked And see what we think are good questions. We then also have some news from a tussle supplier some more information on the tesla accident in texas. Press increase on tesla's stock and then a protester at shanghai's will go through the details on that as well. It's a quick look at the stock here So tesla today finishing up zero point six percent a little bit down after hours from the seven nineteen seven hundred ninety nine closing price. Netflix's did report their earnings after hours. Today they did miss. I think their stock was down about ten percent. Last time i looked at it so we did The mackerels probably impacting us a little bit after hours here as well that could carry into tomorrow. So there's something to keep an eye on but otherwise a relatively quiet day in the markets. Obviously a lot of attention around apple's today. I think that absorbed a lot of the the focus today all right so i want to talk about. Is these questions so as we do. Most quarters just want to go through some questions that have been asked My questions the reasoning behind some of the things. Some of the things. I'm thinking about as a asking these questions And then we'll move onto the next subject. So i guess we can start off here with kind of the questions that i've got in here and then we'll go through a couple of top questions as well so the first question i asked here is how joe coming along. Could though joe unlock in. Aws like business. Line four tesla. Over the next few years so the reason that i chose to you ask. This question is because as i say. Most quarters i think the most valuable thing that we can be asking about our batteries most valuable things we can be asking about our batteries and autonomy but we asked a lot about batteries on the last earnings call.

Tesla Stock Upgraded After 'Paradigm Changer' Delivery Numbers

"Our here and they were talking about an upgrade stock from canaccord genuity. We have new tweets from yuan over the weekend. A tokenism of tesla's stock some news on tesla energy and a couple other stories as well. That's the stock on the day to day. Finishing up three point six nine percent to seven hundred and one dollars ninety eight cents compared to the nasdaq slightly down on the day down. Four tenths of a percent possible tailwind on the stock today from an upgrade from jet door shy of canaccord genuity on tesla stock now reading the stock as a by up from hold an increasing his press target by more than one hundred and fifty percent from four hundred nineteen dollars per share all the way up two thousand and seventy one dollars cameras on cnbc today to discuss the notes that oil down to three things number one. The beat and delivery numbers thinks that will lead to greater profitability. Second are bullish on forty six eighty battery production opening up supply for tesla to continue to expand their business both in automotive but particularly in energy storage third tussles brand door shurmur saying quote we can only compared to apple in terms of the brand value tussles driving any energy market and quote in the actual note canaccord genuity says they see tesla becoming the brand and energy storage and creating an apple inc ecosystem with their multiple product offerings so that you actually have tesla energy and their model. They have a growing to what they say. Conservatively would be a billion dollars per year. Twenty twenty five. At five percent gross margin that would compare to twenty twenty levels of two billion dollars in revenue at about a one percent gross margin but gross margin was suppressed from twenty nineteen levels due to solar primarily solar roof which actually talk about a little bit later on so out actually expect more revenue. That's only doubling from the two-billion-dollar level here to four four to eight. I definitely don't expect that to say tusla for years. Once forty six eighty battery supply comes online. Tesla and four and using those numbers was already at a three billion dollars per year run rate for energy but it is really nice to see start to include and talk about tesla energy and their models

Did Bill Gates Seriously Short TSLA Stock

"Robbed our here and today we're going to be talking about bill gates response to on musk's claims the oregon podcast a couple of weeks. Back that get heard. That bill gates had been shorting stock. We've also got some news on the broader electric vehicle automotive market an interesting response from yvonne on an article from the washington post. And of course. We've gotta talk about tesla stock. It's about wild couple of days. We had the interview yesterday with alex rotter so we didn't get a chance to talk about it. But of course yesterday. Tuesday february twenty. Third tesla dropped to a low of six hundred nineteen dollars per share. That was down more than thirteen percent from the prior. Close then of course. We saw us swift recovery in the market. And from tesla tesla finishing down just two percent yesterday on the biggest volume day that we've seen in over a month and a half with sixty six million shares trading hands yesterday. So i talked about on monday and we briefly talked about yesterday in the interview as well. A lot of this is tied to expectation on interest rates. So yesterday fed chairman. Jerome powell made comments to congress. Indicating the current monetary policy is expected to continue for some time as economic uncertainty remains so not to get too deep into that. We've talked about that. Of course in the past but as far as tussles yesterday certainly was not isolated to tesla. Those sort of concerns were broadly extended to high growth. Stocks tussle obviously falls in that category. And i think the volatility there serves as a nice quarterly reminder that you have to be very very careful with stop losses on a volatile stock like tussle as for today tesla continue to rebound finishing up six point two percent to seven hundred and forty dollars two cents. That compared to the nasdaq up one percent. All right so i up today. I want to continue a conversation that we began a couple of weeks back after yvonne. Musk went on joe. Rogan's podcast for the third time and said that he had heard from people he believes would know that bill gates had shorted tesla. Yvonne brought that up in response to a question from joe rogan on the tesla semi citing that bill gates in a blog. Post a few months back had said that eighteen wheel electric semi is probably would never work so allen's claim here understand. We drawing a lot of attention not the first time something like this has happened between musk and gates last year. He did by his first electric vehicle. The porsche ticon. Which at the time. Maybe it wasn't so clear why he didn't by ordering vehicle up until that point. Well now we might have a better answer for that. But he talked about the decision in an interview with marquez brownlee and it seemed to be a relatively tepid endorsement of electric vehicles gatesville right up ranging anxiety as a problem and elon. Musk responded to that interview. Not necessarily gives purchase of tycoon but those comments in general by saying that quote my conversations with gates have been underwhelming to be honest and so that catches us up to today and then we have launched claiming that he heard gates which tesla now in the last week. We've had both cnbc and bloomberg asked gates directly about that claim. I think gates tone is important these responses so i will play the actual clip. The i wanna hear from andrew. Ross sorkin cnbc asking gates so so you're not sure tesla's stock were clear. Yeah i'm not. I don't talk about my investment. But i think he should be very proud of what he's done. Okay so technically there. He did say yeah. I'm not but it sounded like he was more starting a sentence of saying yeah. I'm not going to talk about my investments not yet. I'm not sure tesla because he interrupts himself and says i don't want to talk about my investments so to me. That's a no comment. Rather than a denial. What's interesting here is his reason saying he doesn't wanna talk about his investments but in the exact same interview. He talks about his investments multiple times. He says quote when i invested in impossible foods or beyond me or quantum scape. I was doing that just to help their own climate. Now it looks like those three will be very successful companies. And so i'll have more money to put into the tough areas a climate like cement and steel and quote. Okay so he says he doesn't want to talk about his investments but then he in response to another question talks about his investments in impossible foods beyond me quantum scape and then how does investments are doing and that i'll have more money to then go on an invest in other stuff. I mean how much more could you talk about your investments. And he uses the first person tense. You're saying i invested. He's asked about bitcoin and he says quote. I don't own bitcoin. I'm not short bitcoin. So i've taken a neutral view and quote so for bitcoin. Perfectly fine to say i'm not short bitcoin. Same question for tesla. oh. I don't want to talk about my investments that we just spent a bunch of time talking about. If you're not going to answer the question at least come up with a better non answer. That doesn't immediately contradict yourself. He has to have known that he'll be asked about that and yet seems completely content guard answer so that was last week if there was any doubt left after that because he did start off. By saying yeah. I'm not before interrupting himself as we said. Here's gates on bloomberg yesterday so we had five days to think about this answering the same question from emily. Chang yuan has in the past claimed you shorted tesla and i wonder if there's any truth to that Well you know i think. Test us on amazed seen company I wish you know own. Been more on the long side. But i it's it's great And you know i have. Lots of relatives won't tassels Helped by for them. So you know nothing. But positive thoughts about tesla role. Okay so if the answer to the cnbc question was a bit of a flood. There was a clear opportunity to just say. Hey i'm not sure. Tesla was jor tesla and again gates passes and he sure doesn't look comfortable to me answering the question. Belief is that it looks pretty clear. That bill gates was short. Tesla who knows if he's still is it'd be surprised but come on. How are you going to be all about climate change and then short the one company that's doing more than any other company on earth to combat it. If you don't think it's a good investment you think it's overvalued you can just not invest in it. No one has any problem with that but too short it push the stock price down. Make it more difficult for tesla to raise capital. That's something else entirely.

"I've laughing over here. Because what i think about my iphone i think about how an update might get pushed on my own and then suddenly doesn't work for a day until the new update comes out get very concerned about an interface on a car deciding not to break because the latest update was buggy. Yeah thanks thankfully. We have a lot of experience with with firmware on cars. Not that there haven't been brought problems over the years but thankfully usually cars don't break down for a day because of firmware updates and hopefully apple would be able to carry that on. This feels like something. That'll be cachet right. Like somebody will be like. Ooh i want the car. Because it's got the whole apple system in it. The the other side could be that apple becomes like like apple and tesla would be. My guess would be the first to offer autonomous cars to people that for them to buy themselves. Ah from the reuters story anyway. It doesn't sound like they're really targeting fleets or industrial uses but consumer uses. Yeah that was the thing about the the idea of apple having a manufacturing partner when you think of the iphone right for you know one of the best examples that's like well different companies. Put those iphones together physically. But it's an apple product. Would apple be able to move that much merch on. That would clearly be a designer car. I mean tesla's even the cheapest models tesla's are mostly outside of anybody's budget can't imagine apple would be going into the low cost. I like a bargain. It doesn't and it's i mean. Listen i want to see this thing. Trust me i wanted to exist. But how many would you really be selling the reuters article. They say they have to make at least one hundred thousand a year to start with. And tesla took a long time to get to profitability. That's why it sounds like maybe they're better off partnering with an automaker that can already kind of move them into the the supply chain but this is one we. We won't know anything for sure for years and it may even evaporate and go away again but it's interesting thing about indeed it is also interesting to think about is flying in vr microsoft flight simulator is officially in vr. A sogo studio. That's the company that develops the twenty. Twenty version of the app has now added. Support for open are compatible. Headsets include windows. Mix reality headsets. "In today's trading session. We are driving to the clothes back with us is Hillary Kramer, president, chief investment officer to Angie. Capital research, author of Game changer. Investing how to profit from Tomorrow's Billion dollar trend. She is on the phone in New York City. Hi, Hilary. How are you, Carol? I'm very well, Thank you. Oh, good. Well, it's good to have you back on. Interesting day. I called it kind of a moody day, which is maybe just cause I'm in a mood. Um, It's just that kind of a day, but I think you know we're realizing I think watching the pandemic we got You know another round of relief. But folks are saying it's really just not enough. Even though we got it done. How do you see the market environment right now? Hillary like again actually hit the bingo. Which is that In many ways, it is a moody day. I mean, this is the This is the pre Christmas slowdown in terms of volume, of course so Mean that that's kind of the foundation. But at the same time we have the vaccine priced into the 2021 numbers. We have the end of Covitz president into the toilet 21 numbers and and even amount market bounced back very quickly. Yesterday. Once everyone understood the virus mutation news that it But it doesn't make the vaccine void and it still could be very effective. Um, it just it just to mark it didn't really liked what it heard and had a chance to really digest. Um and that's what you will see my dirty down modernist down today and usually that stuff. Is that all the time, but expectation and realization is setting in the stimulus. Carol. That's another important point that you bring up when it comes to the stimulus. If you really take a look, I mean, there's there's money for food international there. There's money for new car. I was looking at 5000 pages, but we're skinning to know it. We're joking about how long it is. Yeah, there's money for new cars for the Agriculture Department. I just There's just stuff in there, and it's very disappointing on even the summary of it. Anyone you know who doesn't want to read the 5000 pages? It's very clear that, um there's just a little too much port. There's a way too much pork in there, and and then there's also some fatigue. You know, there's There's been a lot of anything that had the name cloud to it. You know, those stocks have gone up in the Amazons and apples. I mean, you know, and they hit their peak a while ago. But still the markets trying to find its footing since September that this small wrestle small cap is up 35% September alone. Uh, that's the mood of the market. Yeah, it's an interesting day where I love to kind of. I look at most read to kind of get an idea of you know what's catching investors and Bloomberg Terminal users. Their attention I do. I do want to mention some headlines that just did cross and it's coming from some tweets. Not a villain mosque where he tweeted just about six minutes ago. During the darkest days of the Model three program. I reached out to Tim Cook to discuss the possibility of Apple acquiring Tesla's for 1/10 of our current value. He refused to take the meeting. Just when you think 2020 couldn't get any hotter and stranger, but you know, it is an interesting market. Hillary where we were talking. I was just with Jason Kelly. A Bloomberg, You know, Pellet town is the name that is just shut off. The charts, you know, has just gone up a lot. Apple's got up and in the name you know, it's a year where we talked about The market's overall have done pretty well. And yet it's not been a good year for humans. It's actually a headline on a story that we have in Bloomberg Business Week s O, I just I don't know. I wonder where we go from here at this point. And where do you at this point when you look at the market want to commit new money? Yeah, In terms of new money To me, it's the financial financial have been the laggard even with Goldman Sachs at $250. I know it's down today, but so the smartest guys, you have the investment management Goldman Sex is going into the retail business, which will help in terms of deposits. And the balance sheet restructuring is gonna be a big business. Goldman has truly become an international. Both private equity, thank trading Investment bank. Um, so I see Goldman Sachs, especially you. It's still trading below. What it's what it's ordinary book value would be G s. Citigroup is another one. It's treating it 10.9 times tangible book. I've always been more of a J. P. Morgan Person that in Citigroup see person This stock is 59. It was 79 exactly a year ago, and there's a 3.4% venial than the loan losses there. Okay, you know, and the credits good. And the fact is you have all these banks whether it's J. P. Morgan or Citigroup. They can use the deposits which they're paying 0% on. And they can borrow it 0% and they're still sent. They're still doing mortgages that approximately 3%. So there's lots of money being made there. And financials are your second worst performing major industry group in the S and P 500 this year. There's 11 of them. And they are the second worst down about 7.4%. Yes, pretty remarkable. Greatly and we will. We will see the rotation back there and I'm with you When? When? Carol. When you talk about Teligent, I'm looking at it. I mean, that's you know, just stocks that are hitting 52 week highs. It's just kind of incredible Me. I am in agreement with a papal, For example, that's up 74% you and hit a 52 ex tie today because it's an mo and the trend towards e commerce and it's just become the scale of a papal. And has been, you know, it's it's um, it's groaning of Shopify. But I know what you're saying. When you talk about these companies like I was looking at Ricardo Lee brave. It's m e l I U and I have seen Mercadolibre for 10 years, even a Amazon Google of Latin America. You know, but suddenly up 189% on the year, So you're right. There's a lot of tiredness there, I will say, though, cracked yet see, even though it's up 347% on the year as he could be up another 100%. Yeah, I think I kind of agree with you. I think it's a break, and I think people who never went to etc. Went this year and they're like, Oh, it's not what I thought. It's not just You know Macro made pot holders. It's a lot more. Um, Hillary Kramer. I have a great holiday season. A happy new year..

"Greg Jarret there for bringing us up to speed on all the latest headlines. Let's have a look at the markets now because we are seeing a drop for the S and P and the Dow. The NASDAQ is actually positive, but it would be a third day of a drop for the other two indices. It is, of course, quadruple witching, which is a quarterly event. Dave Wilson. What does it all mean? Well, you look at what's going on in terms of trading and then go back to June, which was the last time you had stock index futures index options and also futures and options on individual shares expiring, and it's relatively quiet if you look at trading in companies listed either on the New York Stock Exchange were in ASDA. And about 1.6 billion shares change hands in the first half hour of trading. You go back to June. That figure was two billion. So we're down about 20% from where we were then. And so the question becomes, What's it going to look like in the last half hour of trading and beyond, Because you get a lot of Ah witching related by and selling that Basically what they call market on close, so no words right at the close of trading. The deals get done, and then they show up in the minutes afterward. In terms of, you know the number of shares in the price and all that so You know you again. You look back. Tio June and you saw that? Post 4 P.m. New York time 4.8 Billion shares were recorded. So you know that was a whole lot. If you throw in the last half hour trading that day, I mean, you were closer to seven billion. I was 42% of the day's training. So you know, it may well be that things just kind of chug along until we get toward the clothes. And we find out the ultimate effect of all the futures and options were later trading here. Another well stocked that it's certainly chugging along again is our good friends at Tesla Stock up another 5% today? Well, it's like a 430% year. Today. Looks like animals still like this name. Oh, they dio. I mean, and next week, the company's having what? They're calling a battery day. Let's not forget his much. Azad is an electric car company. They're also involved with the batteries that now we go in two cars. But also into AH home solar systems, which Tesla installs course they bought Solar city a couple years back, another company that was founded by Ah, Tesla's CEO, Elon Musk, and so You know, you got share price estimates going up Piper Sadler and Wedbush in advance of this Battery day. Now it's not just the batteries that are focused necessarily for these analysts nontheless it It's something to look forward to. And you know for stock. Osvaldo. Is Tessa the prospects that things may turn out positive next week. Well, you know, and let's pay attention, and so he got the shares higher. And I do want to point out that at 10. We got some economic data, University of Michigan sentiments, data and the leading index leading an ex slightly disappointing but still at 1.2% positive for August. Preliminary sentiment for September was also better than forecast at 78.9 current conditions. Better expectations better inflation expectations, however, not so hot 2.7% for one year now, Dave, the economic data doesn't seem to move markets of such anymore. Not necessarily the really question when it comes to any sentiment survey is you know whether what people are thinking is a reflection of what they're doing now, as confident as people might be about the economy they've got to have. The money of dam will go out and spend and, you know, given that it was still have a relatively high level jobless claims we have. Ah, ah lot of companies that kind of struggling to get back their business in light of shutdowns, really, the Corona Iris. You have to wonder the extent to which you see, you know, people's views turn into action, and they will get a better sense of that clearly. Ah, once we start to see third quarter results roll in, but that's still basically a month away, So they even get started. And for retailers, most them you're talking two months out. Given that the typical fiscal year for retail was a month behind the counter, so it'll be a while before we get a sense of how the growing optimism you might say or lessening pessimism, depending on how you want to look at it among consumers, whether that really translates into sustained spending here. It seems to me you know where to less than two months away to the election and it it seems to me that we're just not focusing on it. The market's not focusing on it so much. Not that we don't have a lot of other things to focus on. But This could be a huge event and it doesn't seem I'm not here to hold a lot of strategist o r out of fund managers. I mean, it's out there. It's clearly consideration. You know? Why is it that we got to the highs right before Labor Day when you look at the S and P 500 or whatever and things that kind of backed off from there? You know, you could argue that to some extent, you know, anticipation of what may or may be More than point what may not happen. Ah, clear cut kind of result in the presidential election is becoming at least something that you know is on people's radar. Now you know how that translates day today, you know, it's It's always hard to figure out, but you know, at the very least, it's out there..

"This is something where you put your money where your down to in a sense. Lose it. This is where you put your money. You're not. You're you're you're you're like us and you want to take that risk your. The hopes it can will pay off then yes, I would advise. So just to give you an example of that myself and have a portfolio together with an LLC that we have and we invested most if not all of. Actually both in Tesla and apple because of the stocks because we knew, we could make some good short term gains on this and from that perspective we've already, we are already up three percent within a week or so. So just to give you that perspective again, this was very risky. Tesla. Has Gone up in points in time in the past it went up at a point to like a thousand dollars and I believe it dropped back to five or four hundred. Tesla has a very Volatile. Stock Perspective on how it happens like apples obvious. A safer one where it's just been going up at whole life like, yeah it can go down but generally just trends back up but to us this was more. So a play where we know to stock splits happening we know there's hype we know Apple's doing at the same time. So Tesla's Kinda like bandwagoning on that we don't want the price splits again from apple's trend again, it doesn't have to follow. Our sumptious it will go up. So we're taking those considerations in fact now, none of that is logical from the sense where there Oh. We know their revenue is going to be doing better or the analysts are predicting. We're telling you none of that is following direction. There's hedge funds even out there saying we think because of the hype and its future future future value, it should be worth four k. a stock. This is before the split wasn't like announced. That's what these people were saying these hedge funds who have a huge stake then they're incentivized to say this because. They had an stake in. Tusla but still last like how does the perspective they're going into and I feel like for Tesla type companies? The Sky's the limit I feel like it's just hype. It's just very much hype possibility dropped, but that's those are my two cents. What do you think definitely so what are the major thing like you mentioned is? It had nothing to do with the books in terms of what their? Make profit wise or anything a lobbyist to do with you know a lot of the investors idolize Elon Musk and didn't believe in him right especially since he has many successful ventures in the past for example, Ebay pay pal. And she has sex and doing something different and unique right and I guess his marketing strategy is very good. So people do look up to him and think that he knows what he's doing. Yeah. Because he has done some crazy stuff where if you were born member, you would find him if it was another company I guarantee you he would be fired like he is not your typical CEO where you have professional and speak a certain way. Like Joe Reagan's podcasts smoking weed was that the podcast. But. I was like what? Like it doesn't matter like he's doing that is just like normally that's not cool for. Doing but again, the board was still like it's fine he's bringing us and a lot of money. With this investors didn't care like yeah. He says, we're self sometimes like I. Think he said the stock prices too high ones and the price dropped I'm like, what's so yeah, he is. He's an oddball. Definitely. So yeah I mean in my opinion I would probably. It really depends on which what situation you're in. If you have some extra cash, definitely, go for it. Yeah. That's all I. if it's just if it's your life savings and you need it and I would not recommend I would just say just put in a normal fund or like the regular market just. Or something like where you the more stable. Like Morris and whatnot it's just I get it. You can make a lot of money, but you can lose a lot of money also. So it's like a very risky situation. So yes. You can think of it this way if I put in whatever money I have and by the end of the week or by tomorrow, it's zero dollars will I be fine with it? You say, yes. Then go ahead. Yeah. That's a very good way to look at it I, I like that perspective. So. Yeah. This was are just talk on giving you kind of like a very high level overview unlike what does tesla what's happened to the stock? What does the five to one stock split basically mean and just giving me that perspective over there. So yeah, we do. Hope you guys enjoyed listening into the podcast. "Hold my math is good. But basically, that's what that means. So and the interesting thing is they're they're doing this on August thirty first. So you've probably still have some time. If you're listening to this episode, right as it comes out, turns still get in on this but apple is also interestingly enough doing it on that day as well. They're doing it for one stock split and they announced it before Tesla announced say. So just to give you a tesla has never done a stocks play f y just to give you an apples perspective on stocks play I believe they've already done it like ten times and I think. If, you ever take their original stock into play I think it was a fifty six to one stocks played. That's how many times they've done a split. So in general on Apple's trends, apple stock has always gone up one dave announced it that the split is going to happen. So it always riled up and then rallied say and then once they did this is still went up for a while and then it went down the normal path whatever it was if it was going down to down if it was gone up ended up, that's how apple's path has been always whenever they don't split yeah. I. that. It's not. Positive. Role apply to US Tesla has been like an oddball since day one. Yeah. Like apple is still a well known company two, hundred, billion cash reserves obviously they have a lot in revenue a lot there they just hit two trillion dollars market evaluation whatnot like they're different like apples in my eyes at least like a full grown up company that can sustain itself doesn't need to like run out to investors to get cash you. So yeah. So the stock split. So why would a company wanted to a doctor? So one of the most main reasons companies do this stocks play is giving the price as of today or at least timeframe, the stocks are on to k the main purposes. When they do the split, they want new investors to come into the like to purchase their stocks so. If you're an average investor, you're just trying to invest like four or five hundred dollars a month. You're not going to be anywhere close to be purchasing, Tesla. Yes. You can get it from funds and yes. Now it's easier because a lot of platforms lists you by fractional shares but still like most conventional places, you cannot do that. So a lot of. People technically get left out of this. There's why apple did I'm assuming Microsoft has probably done it as well but there are certain companies that haven't done like Amazon I don't think Amazon has gone one or maybe they did it in a very long time ago. So it's it's normally good mess to do it for like investors new investors to come. In because it brings them at that cheaper price point you as an investor who has already invested in the company doesn't make a difference whether you have five or ten after the split doesn't matter is just for you sustain value, you will care more about the price appreciation that would occur from that perspective, but it doesn't change your voting rights any. Perspective, it stays the same. So that's one of the main reasons why companies do it. So. Yeah. So basically it'll allow more people to invest in their companies which will ultimately lead them to be getting more money. Yeah. Yeah. So yeah. So now you know Tesla since we talked a little about it, you know it's not the only kind of company out there. It. Is Unique in a sense right and they were probably the first company to do it, right? Yeah, right. There is competition from other car industries Rizal Oh. For example, major companies like Ford and GM. But sense of electric vehicles I. Don't really think any major player like Chevy Bolt and like all those little ones they arrange isn't as highest tesla it's like they have them they're trying I know some like was it to Yoda they going hydro like Like they, they're trying it and I feel like, no one's hitting that mark like Tesla is like no one's hitting it with the hype. No wanting like all that stuff and I didn't to major thing is that the design of Tesla cars are really nice. Yeah, I agree so compared to like. What do they have like the Chevy Volt looks very ugly young, all these small weird shape cars right and there's no true designed to it. So Tesla's cars they have. Three different models. Yeah. A and they're all pretty pretty decent. Yeah. I. I've driven I've driven the model three I've actually the other ones I've just online but like I've driven the model three like again being its lowest price point, it's beautiful on the inside have minimalistic design I. Like I said a techie dashboard it does autopilot a good range elect does everything and now especially depending on which city you're living in they have those superchargers in a lot of big cities and if You get one installed in your house. If you want to like it's easy charges it overnight and boom you got to. Charge up car that can go like two hundred fifty to three hundred miles. YEA, definitely. So I guess that being said, it's not like they're completely safe from competition. Yeah. Right. There are other startups for example, like Nicole, Nicole is Nicola I know how Nikolov that's one of the big ones they have a concept. They have a cool concept but nothing is like present. I would say Tesla was in a similar situation a while back where they. Had Concept, but you know now they have self. So this is one of them. There are a lot of competitors in China, where like I feel like it's the marriage entries easier. The probably is obviously cheaper so they're testing it out over there I'm assuming certain companies are trying to like sell it. They're perfect it, and then maybe go towards Europe in America. Because I can't being American company Tesla just made hair the the got incentives they got tax breaks. So you know they made sense for them to keep it within the US, but even Tesla is expanding to China and whatnot they have factories, they have battery. Car Production Factory or a battery factory, but they have their expanding there as well so that people are trying to like you will see competition within the next five to ten years and I will I will say of competition if not so. Yeah, yeah definitely. So. So now the ultimate question is, should you invest at this point or not? So this again, we're not your financial advisers please consoled with your financial adviser or accountant before making any crazy decision. But from our perspective is an extremely risky investment..

"tesla stock" Discussed on Broke Millennial Finance Podcast

"Magno financier which your host, Mohammad Khan. And your co host Fajar Jamile and today's episode something interesting. So we're GONNA be talking about what is happening with the Tesla stock and basically kind of like dive into the stock and the stock split what that is. So so yeah if you guys have you heard of the news yet Tesla's stock has been going pretty crazy. You know it's not. It's not predicting. It's not predictable in any sense. Yeah Right. So whatever like algorithms is using. To guests the price where they'll go up or down is really working. Right. So just a brief overview of Tessa what it is company I'm pretty sure most of you guys already heard of it by now. Right? It's an electric car company, right? That's basically pretty much it. I consider them Tech Company. Feel like they're tech company I feel like a lot of these new companies they they do a thing but they are a tech company. Well. Yeah. They have long. Yeah. Because I guess a lot of new companies have a lot of high-tech stuff in it. Yeah. So the technically tech company, but in terms of what they provide is. Product Eh name product they provide is the car, but they are expanding like into solar panels fan feel they were doing one more thing aside from the flame throwers. Boring Company yes. That a separate I technically, or is it under Tesla? I think is it just by? Just by Eli but a different company not under test. Okay. 'cause I just feel like they're randomly just get into like different places as well. SPACEX under. An, I don't know if they're together. It's like weird. He does stuff together. But overall just to give basic constantly that technically attack ish type company main thing they sell main revenue bringer cars. It's the electric cars that they saw and they've been mostly hyped up or like blowing recently more. So than before is because of the more affordable, the Tesla model three, which is about thirty five k with incentives I believe because before their cars are like seventy, two, hundred K. Range, obviously much much harder to or more pricier for the average Joe by whereas this one to a certain degree you can. So the model is pretty much the average price of an average car right you would get at a dealership so it's not really much different than that. But with that, you get a fully electric car and then you get on the other perks that come with a car I. Agree. So. Let's kind of dive into like I, and again, this is like to a certain degree are speculations why like opinion? So it's not like we're crazy analysts at GP Morgan who are freaking out what's happening where we're going to dive into like why we believe the prices are going high what we think is going to happen and you just kind of go from there. So just to give you like some statistics for for this year as of today, I believe the stocks went up two hundred and fifty, five percent. And up from the past twelve months is gone five hundred and fifty percent some around. Somewhere around depending on when you're listening to this podcast, right, it has been up to fifty five two. To, five hundred, fifty, five for the past twelve months and normally those are some insane returns so. Even if you had like a thousand dollars in, you would have like some crazy amount. Because, you can do the math yourself, and then you'll. You'll have some insane amount of total. Yeah. That's why we said this is unheard of this new stuff in crypto because his sole volatile like hearing that as a normal stock company do this. It just sounds insane and it's not like Tesla's like one of those small companies like medical companies that had a breakthrough and I've seen those happened like when they do like a medical breakthrough and boom their stock blows up this. Is like a well known company we you know what their numbers are. You have analysts predicting their like revenue being either close to or off the mark a little bit based on that. You know the stock goes up a little down up but this is insane. This is not based off sales or anything. So the sales, the amount of sales does not match the current stock price. Or Valuation of what the company is. Yeah. So there's yeah it's just odd in like many terms of what's happening. So now kind of diving into a why we think a little bit of this is happening in general stocks to a certain degree nowadays do rely on hype and Tesla is like a hype train. There's a lot of people that back Alon that back the stock itself, they just have a lot a lot of faith. This stock will do very, very good or this company will do very, very good in the future. Now, there's levels of expectation that I will give. Amazon as an example, they were in las where like most of their life I think and I think only just the past five, six, seven ish years they've been profitable but even then when investors new, Oh, the future growth would be worth it. The stock was never that much. It was high and people made fun of Amazon like people who are invested in this don't know what they're doing. They're going to lose their money. This company has never turned a profit is this is not a smart strategy, but again, stock still to a certain degree was reasonable over here is just insane. It's like way too much. I. Know They can be a lot of factors like. The feds just pumping money into the market interest rates being like near historic zero levels, yielding low treasury yields and whatnot. So I know those factors in general play into the stock market, but just this. Company in general is like way too like. Blowing up. One or the other major reasons and. We. We kind of discussed this stocks play. Yeah. So recent more recently I think it was announced like the last couple of weeks one two weeks ago, right? Yeah. So this a stock split has been announced. Like a week or two ago. Right so five to one stock split. Okay and that basically means that it. is to grand was the math three, hundred dollars no I did it wrong four hundred also. Yeah. So if the stock is to it'll be now four different stocks two, hundred, four, hundred dollars each. Yeah. So you'll get the initial stock you had your initial stock will go from two K. to four hundred dollars and you'll get four additional stocks four hundred dollars each four times five is two, hundred thousand..

"There was was actually. There was another study that I want to just talk about real quick and this one was which countries actually read the most as opposed to publish the most and it looks very similar except the number one country they were doing hours per week of reading per person and the number one country was India with ten hours per week than Thailand China Philippines Egypt Czech Republic Sweden France Hungary Saudi Arabia Hong Kong Poland Venezuela South Africa Australia Indonesia. The United States is number twenty two cutting to the chase and there's all these other countries in between so that was more varied than the than the publishing list and because 'cause we had Saudi Arabia Egypt Hong Call Well Hong Kong's Asian country South Africa Australia so little different but the point is it ain't the United States pie on the list when either list and my point is like I don't even care I don't care what they're reading I don't care they're reading like you know just a bunch of romance novels or whatever because I just feel like reading is a superior way to take things in its more active. You have to reach out with your mind and grab a hold of it and comprehend it whereas when you're watching watching television or looking at some video on the internet or something you're passive you're just sitting there and kind of washing over you when people say you know. I always chuckle a little bit when people say I only watch educational programs on TV. I Watch National Geographic and I watch those too but it's entertainment it really is it's passive. It's entertainment it's not learning it's not actively studying and grasping is being an and learning something valuable so it looks to me like a whole bunch of other countries are filled with people will who are spending more time actively learning and reaching out and grasping things and in the United States. We Are you know trying to impeach a president who doesn't appear to have done anything impeachable peachable and we are worried about out what bathrooms people are using all kinds of other stupid stuff. And you know we're obsessed with you know I don't know it. It strikes me just the the way we think about things in in the year. Twenty twenty. You know we're all worried about gender and race. Were hyper obsessed with gender in race. We seem to be anyway. I realized that this is just what you know. The news represents and we all live our lives a little differently than what they represent. But still it's on people's minds and out West you get into a conversation at a party or something and people jump right down your throat on this stuff but the obsession with race and and with gender and all this you know what it reminds me of it reminds me of these these. TV shows that my wife watches and that I watch whether sometimes about these people who volunteer to go to jail and in jail everything is based on you know the White Guy in the black guy and the the Latins in guy and the you know the white girl and they're all they're split up by gender of course you know the girls are different jail than the guys and I just feel like our whole society. Heidi feels I. It's like we're all think we're in prison and we're afraid of getting shanked we can't we gotta be careful about who we talked to in who we offend. It's weird and I don't know I I just I think we're obsessed with the wrong so I think that we should be. I think we should read more should publish more books. We should be more like India and China Japan and these other countries publish more books and you know learn more valuable valuable stuff. Anyway you get the point. Maybe I'm.

"Banks and things you know but to me. Hey to me. This looks like an accumulation of misallocated capital. That's just my gut reaction you know. Maybe you know somebody okay who has studied this phenomenon and has all the statistics and disagrees. But that's what it looks like to me. It's typical of big bull markets. That after they get going for a while while people become more tolerant of risky situations and certainly investing in a money losing company with no history at all all right an IPO is pretty risky. And there are more of those around now than at any time since the dotcom peak so you know be careful folks at the opposite end of the spectrum of course our values stocks here he goes again. Gaza ghetto value stocks so research search affiliates is a research firm CO founded by rob are not one of the smarter financial analysts. The last few decades research affiliates came out with two different reports in the past couple of months showing One of them's says quote. The current underperformance of value stocks relative to growth stocks has exceeded most an emerging markets. All previous draw downs and yes the appeal of stocks. Like Tesla is is that they'll grow so much that's what's being discounted in the price vice so overall though research affiliates that value is the superior long term. Bet I mean it's the ugly bet right now but it's long term it does better. They said quote historically value stocks around the globe tend to win more often than they lose beating growth over five. We're rolling intervals. Approximately fifty five percent of the time rising to seventy percent over rolling tenure intervals. Those quotes from paper titled Standing Alone Against the crowd abandoned value now and that was published in November number another paper by the same firm research affiliates was published just within the last several days here just dated January twenty twenty one specific date. It's called old reports of values. Death may be greatly exaggerated. This one makes two points that I found pretty pretty interesting. It made several points and it was fairly technical but but the two things I found interesting. I is that value as I've said many times uh-huh including two you know right now. Value has become drastically cheaper than growth right the slower growing but you know still mostly profitable. Businesses have become cheaper than the much faster growing and some unprofitable businesses today but the paper notes both growth and value. Oh you are expensive relative to pass norms. So I've pointed out many times the like I said value stocks cheaper than growth. But if you look at basically Lee any value. ETF you'll probably see something that's up like two hundred percent in the last several years and the growth. ETF's are up three hundred percent right so so there's the outperformance but it doesn't mean that the value stocks haven't risen you know earnings haven't risen that much of the stocks are more expensive in both cases right so the Ra tapers just pointing out that. They've they both got more expensive versus historical valuations. I don't WanNa make it seem like values the dirt cheapest thing in the world right now. Although there are there are some little pockets here and there but you have to find them okay. That's the first thing is that that they've both revaluing. Doing growth have both risen over the Passover years. It's just a relative assessment and the second thing is and this is a quote from that second paper since two two thousand seven well over one. Hundred percent of the shortfall of value relative to growth is due to value becoming relatively family cheaper in the most recent twelve year period the revaluation component appears to be the key to understanding why gross stocks outperformed value stocks. End Quote so he's describing what I talked about with Tesla moment ago. Remember I said the market is discounting that Tesla will generate more cash profits over over long-term that Ford GM combined even though it has no track record of consistent profitability and both Ford and GM. Do if Tesla just fails fails to perform spectacularly in terms of revenue and profit growth. You'll probably lose money paying these prices no matter how high it goes in the meantime so even even if it hits a thousand tomorrow you know you'll probably lose money on it unless it performs spectacularly well over the very long term you you know in terms of the business performance right the revenue in the prophets. You remember those right. It's more than just the share price. That's just common sense and basic arithmetic Semitic right and what did the Ra paper quoted just now say it. Said revaluation was the biggest component in underperformance of value versus growth over the last twelve years in other words investors. Right now they just very much. I want to pay up today for growth in these exciting companies that they see in the future they see them growing fast right now. They seem them growing fast in the recent past or excited about the technology and they just pay up. They're getting all excited about it because they think they're gonNA make a ton of money a ton more okay then they've already made and and By contrast they're unwilling to pay up for profits earned today in less exciting slower growing but still profitable businesses right value stocks talks. And you can. I think of growth stocks like negative yielding bonds actually write the bonds become negative yielding. You know they're guaranteed not losers because they cost more than the principal and all the interest payments right so you so you you the price you pay is more than all you're Guaranteed to get back out of it. Well just substitute earnings and earnings growth for interest payments and. That's what that's what stocks Tesla and even some profitable companies. These look like to me today. So we're in this period. Now I think kind of officially if you will of unbridled optimism. It's kind of fun because I think we can probably all get excited about new technologies to some degree. I still think having an iphone means I'm cool and I look at this thing every now and then I think wow this little phone. It's way more powerful than desktop computers and those giant early. The computers that took up a whole room. You know not in in fairly recent history. It's pretty exciting. Right but as an investor you have to get other do not just which technology will be more widely adopted in you know five or ten years or whatever you have to not pay so much for the earnings earnings accompanying that you're still gonNA lose. Even though the company may succeed right it's just like that negative yelling. Bon those people are going to get all their interest payments. They're going to get paid. Hey back their principal. They paid so much for it that they're guaranteed to lose same thing. Ask anybody WHO BOUGHT CISCO in March of two thousand and and is still holding today today. Right they're still showing loss twenty years later they're still showing a loss and this difference in investors. We're almost twenty years okay. I'm two months ahead of myself here. But you get the you get the point and this different investors excitement and optimism really for some stocks versus others. It's a different effect than if there were a big difference in profitability between the growth in value. You understand what I'm saying. They're just paying more because they like them better for. You could say your rational reasons rather than being kind of strictly rational on saying well This is a better bet relative to the price and the value. So you know I should be buying other cheaper thing now. That's all out the window now. So so in other words if I read this. Ra paper correctly research affiliates paper. They're saying that the difference in performance between growth in value stocks last twelve years. It's it's not because value companies are less profitable. They weren't at least not enough to explain the huge underperformance. So what you're looking at today is I would say pretty ready. Typical investor behavior laid in a bull market. They're all excited about the money they've made we or maybe they're jealous of the money. They're friends if made and they WANNA get in on it. Now there's little side issue here right when I say investors I don't necessarily mean individuals individuals like you and me by now. It's pretty widely reported that institution's move markets today not the mom and pops day trading like back dot com era but to me that doesn't mean anything institutions are just groups of people and if individuals behaved poorly near market tops groups of the people behave like suicidal maniacs. I on speed. I mean I would say groups of people in such situations behave worse than individuals. Because they're in this hive. Save this hive of peer pressure all around them and they're always you know gauging their performance relative to some index or other and and man when the index starts doing poorly they all start selling to so when the bull market cracks. This time around whenever that is I think the bear market is going to be so bad and who knows maybe so long but not necessarily but so bad that people start to wonder if the stock market isn't permanently broken and you could say I know that somebody just started typing a question. Dan Isn't a permanent Boykin today. Because stocks are so overnight. We yeah but nobody's going to say that you know the people who say that are people like me who've been wrong for three years okay. Okay so they won't start saying that until the whole bunch of people look at their 401K's and go. Oh God now I'm going to call it a one. Oh One K.. Member they called him to o one engage back in two thousand nine. So look. That's all I have to say about that. Stocks a bunch of stocks have ripped. I mean I I just looked at a bunch of charts and like Uber and maybe what Peleton a couple of others. But but I I just looked at a bunch of money losers that have done oh beyond me that was the one on. It's ripped I mean it's just ripped it was like seventy something now. It's one twenty something and who knows why maybe this short-covering I don't know but it sure seems like people are falling back in love with these money losers not all of them not all of them but but a few of them that they're just you know super excited people are still excited about meat substitutes. There's a lot of commercials on TV. There's a hooters commercial now. While these hooters girls you know in their basic you know that outfit is like underwear so these girls come on stream in their underwear eating like chicken wings or chicken nuggets or something and it's like fake. Excuse me you know. It's plant based stuff so so that that idea still exciting so cares if it's losing money hand over fist. It's exciting and so let's let's just get back into it and by right because Tesla was way the heck down and it turned around and took off like a rocket and so maybe beyond me doing that Now to who knows but we got nothing whatsoever to do with profitability right. That was the theme. I just Kinda weaved through my ranting and raving today. Let's do one more little tidbits before we talk with Harris Opperman. I found a couple of NEAT little surveys. I look. I don't vouch for the statistical method on these things but I find them in their interesting one of them's in the economist that that should be pretty good right. They published a list of of twenty eight countries based on how many books were published per one million of population and this is as of twenty sixteen. Sixteen okay. So it's a few years old. So can you guess the number one country the number one country that has published the most books per one million population. What what do you think that would be turns out? It's Japan with more than ten thousand titles per one million population and published in two thousand sixteen number. Two is China and number three. Is South Korea. Both right around seventy five hundred books per one million mm-hmm numbers four through seventeen all European countries number four as Denmark with about four thousand books per million and I said number four or seventeen where European countries number eighteen guest this one yeah the United States one thousand titles so China or I'm sorry. Japan publishes ten times as many books per one million population as we do and and their list went to number twenty eight or twenty eight of them almost all the rest European countries to Latin American countries Argentina Number Twenty Three and Columbia number twenty seven. So what does all this mean that. Asian and European countries publish more books per million of population in the United States. You know technically Oh. Speaking of I'm guessing or maybe it doesn't mean anything but you know I I can't help thinking of those studies that we hear of every couple years in the news. You hear a study that Asian Asian and European countries are scoring a lot higher on math tests. Do they do a lot better on mass than the United States and this sure makes it seem like you know. They're reading a lot more books.

to Bloomberg's Washington correspondent Kevin so really so Kevin it it's not apparent that this was really price stand and we can see that from the the movement over the past a couple of days and the Chinese currencies strengthened quite significant about two thirds of one percent out we had thought earlier it might take until what well into next year or later this year yeah I mean look at it this is a good sign I mean is talking with sources all throughout the weekend and earlier this morning about where we're gonna be come Wednesday when China vice premier law comes to the White House with the China delegation to sign on the dotted line the US China phase one trade deal and you got this glow and there was uncertainty around that now you get this glowing completely glowing a report that Bloomberg our colleague so emotion was all over all morning on the Bloomberg terminal that says that officially now the Chinese currency manipulator title has been that has been lifted also that's a really a sign of good will the markets are carpeting it as a sign of good will as a sign of good fortune as we head into Wednesday and I guess what's interesting too is there were no new countries put put in as a currency manipulator true and I think that just gives to goes to show you the political reality of the president and his reelection efforts I mean the volatility that that that the trade disputes trade spats had been subjected into the market's really had been a lot of for lack of a better word but again the president on the cusp of of finally getting that you SMCA deal over the finish line and on securing some type of of deal with China some type of many deal with China come Wednesday so a good sign what we don't know is whether how it's going to be enforced well we don't know or the specific agricultural purchases the charitable make we don't know whether intellectual property will be there a lot of question marks but a sign of good will within the past couple of hours on behalf of the treasury department all right Kevin thank you very much Bloomberg's Washington correspondent Kevin's really the currency now six point eight eight one six against the dollar a five month high Irish all right what is of those are going to market was no ready Doug mentioned it is because the it hit a milestone shares of electric comic is surging event we had a close at an all time high of five hundred and twenty four dollars eighty six cents one of the reasons behind it Mrs Oppenheimer raising its price target on the shed to six hundred and twelve dollars Donna how covers has a problem that a lot of analysts have been raising their price targets but the rays from Oppenheimer is pretty significant con rushes you know a fairly careful analyst who doesn't do this willingly and I think what's significant is that the note you know basically said that Tesla has this three year advantage when it comes to battery range and power train and you know that's just something that other automakers have not been able to catch up to yet the positive developments boosting the stock include a Chinese official saying the government will not be significantly scaling back electrical vehicle subsidies this year all right six and a half minutes you're past the hour let's get a news update the US is digging in in defense of its strike against Iran's top military general Bloomberg com joins us with the latest Bob Bryan the killing of a running in general Qassem Soleimani was ordered president trump has said on intelligence killing an imminent attack was being Teachers case if oh, but I say prepare for an onslaught of teachers taken early retirement, and I get ready for a generation of of young void of discipline. The ability to interact properly in society, so the California state Senate has voted to ban schools and principals from suspending students for willful defiance of teachers staff administrators. This Bill was approved by the Senate moved to the assembly. It'll be approved. They'll go to Gavin Newsom status quo privacy side. So under the new version of this under this Bill Senate, Bill four nine thousand nine students in grades four through twelve wouldn't be suspended for disrupting school activities or willfully defying school authorities including teachers and staff this is both public and charter schools. So this is a part of what is known as restorative Justice. Because the activists are saying, well, we're looking at willful defiance suspensions. And even though African American students make up five point six percent of enrollment California schools, they counted for almost sixteen percent of all willful defiance suspensions. So they're saying the school system in California's inherently racist and subs- gotta change. And I'm saying what what what what is that gonna do for these students that are disruptive. "The nuclear program Jonathan head in Vietnam. In a potentially major escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan. India is reported to have carried out ask strikes inside the Pakistan administered area of Kashmir hitching what it describes as terror camps correspondent yogurt. Joins us from Delhi yoga. This is a serious escalation what happened. That's right. This would be the first military act following the suicide bombing twelve days ago of a bus in Indian-administered Kashmir that killed forty Indian troops. What sources within the Indian air force telling the BBC is that some fighter jets took off from India, and bombed what they're saying are designated targets in Pakistan administered. Kashmir, we're still waiting to hear more details from the Indian government about what the targets were. Specifically what we are being told is that all the aircraft returned safely now. This is something that was actually put out earlier this morning. Also by a Pakistani military spokesman, he said that India violated the line of control, this is sort of a, you know, a de facto control line between the two countries because the region of Kashmir is is disputed. He has also said in in tweets that he's put out that this strike happened in Indian-administered. Kashmir. However, where his version differs from the Indian one is that he said the Indian aircraft were forced to withdraw hastily and they released their payloads. But also said that no infrastructure got hit. There was no casualties. And there was no damage you'll get on the line from Delhi. We will keep following the story in the hours ahead. Elon Musk made his name as a co founder of tesla one of the world's leading manufacturers of electric vehicles. Now his position as the company's CEO is in doubt. After US financial regulators asked a New York judge to hold him in contempt for violating a settlement over comments. He made on social media concerning the firm's production figures, Dave Lee is US technology correspondent so you remember that deal last year when Elon must posted a joke about. Potentially taking tesla private taking it off the stock market. He's joke, but it's moved the markets. It may tesla stock go up, and because of that he was punished by the SEC the Securities Exchange Commission because they said that was against their rules for a public company is part of that punishment. He had to pay twenty million dollars yet to step down as chairman of tears, and the third thing you had to do was from then on get prior approval. Every time he wanted a tweet something about the company that could have an effect on their stock price. And now the SEC says that on February nineteenth just ought to seven o'clock in the evening. New York Times he tweeted, tesla will make around five hundred thousand cars in twenty nine thousand nine the company has admitted the SEC say has omitted that Mr. must not get approval before he sent that tweets. And now, that's why the SEC thinks he is broken this court order this agreement to no longer share that kind of information without getting approval. From the financial bosses at tesla. So once again. Elon Musk is found himself tweeting his of trouble Dave lead. The breaking story this hour. India says it has conducted air strikes in Pakistan administered. Kashmir, this is the newsroom at five twenty GMT. The US and its allies in Latin America stepping up their efforts to unseat the Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro after his troops clashed with opposition supporters trying to bring aid into the country. The Lima group of Latin American countries and Canada urged the international criminal court to consider whether Venezuela is guilty of crimes against humanity. Be Colombian Foreign Minister Carlos HAMAs Trujillo said the group believed action had to be taken deemed this evening. The Lima group has decided to ask the international criminal court to take into consideration the serious humanitarian situation in Venezuela. The criminal violence of Medeiros regime against the civil population and the refusal of access to international aid, which constitutes a crime against humanity remain the money for his past the US. Vice President Mike Pence announced new sanctions against four Venezuelan state governors in retaliation for blocking the eight distrust his country back to democratic transition in Venezuela without force are South America. Correspondent Casey Watson is following developments from the Venezuelan capital Caracas, the general consensus is they want is to be done peacefully. In fact, in the statement that they issued after the meeting they said they wanted to reiterate the transition to democracy had to be done by Venezuelans themselves in a had to be done peacefully. I mean, it's interesting how one Guido came to the meeting after what was a very chaotic weekend wanting to make sure that all options were available to him that they have been much more cautious. Perhaps then he might have expected with the neighbors are stepping up the pressure with this call to the international criminal court and the plans for more sanctions will do any good every single step does kind of tighten screws. And of course, the big sanctions on the state oil company that were announced recently that could have yet to really kick in and they could be potentially very damaging to the economy personal sanctions as well. What does it mean for families if the administration who live abroad that sort of thing, but then very incensing speaking to people here in Venezuela? A lot of people very worried about anything more extreme Mike military intervention. But there are people who just say. But actually anything to make Maduro ago when I find that quite surprising, given the history that the US has an it is both went in politics in Latin America, and he response from president Maduro president Mitterrand has maintained from the very beginning that the US is wanting to get involved in Venezuela. His approach isn't going to change on us. And obviously he is increasingly isolated internationally. But he's still in power we seen defections over the last few days of soldiers that at the end of the day. His senior offices still remain faithful. So I think everybody here now is watching how one day will make it back into the country or if he will. And if he does make it back. What will the authorities do Katie Watson in Caracas? The United Nations has launched an appeal for more than four billion dollars to fund aid operations in Yemen. Where years of civil war have resulted in the world's worst humanitarian. Crisis around twenty four million people are in desperate need of humanitarian assistance. A pledging conference is being held at the UN in Geneva from where imaging folks reports the scale of Yemen's crisis is too immense for most of us, even to imagine. The vast majority of its people are now deprived of the basic necessities for survival food water medicine safety. Millions of people are malnourished and facing famine families are resorting to desperate measures child labor and child marriage. Even if the UN gets the billions of pounds, it is asking for the next challenge will be delivering the aid green supplies already landed it. Yemen's ports are starting to rot aid agencies can't deliver them because the fighting continues despite the tentative truce agreed in December UNICEF estimates. Eight children have been killed during. Injured every single day since then. Just over a month to go until Britain is meant to leave the European Union. And there's still a sense of confusion over what's likely prime minister. Theresa May insists the UK is still on course to leave with as an as yet unspecified deal on the twenty ninth of March are the MP's saying the process needs to be delayed. Now, the opposition labor party raised the possibility of a second referendum, the labor foreign affairs. Spokeswoman Emily Thornberry says MRs may has created a crisis, which she can't resolve what she wants to do is just get us over to a position whereby she says, it's my deal or no deal. We think both of those are disastrous. And so we will see what it is at the end of the parliamentary process, whether we're facing no deal or a disastrous Tory Brexit, but either should go before the people, and we need to have the people to break. The logjam is a political correspondent rob Watson, essentially what you're saying as the labor leadership moving towards backing the idea of a second. Referendum. Now. I think cynics will say that Jeremy Corbyn is doing this not because he has a great love for your infused Yasim for a second referendum, but rather because he wants to stem any further defections from his party because it's worth remembering that nine MP's walked out on the politics some of them because they are far more pro e u and it's well known that inside the labor party, many activists and MP's would like to either stop Brexit, or certainly it's a half a second votes. But whatever Jeremy corbin's MO serves, I think it is. Of course, significant the main opposition party is now saying that it could be side for another vote. So how is this going to change the parliamentary arithmetic with the prime minister bringing her deal back to parliament in less than two weeks now? Well, I suppose you might say that in a funny sort of way that might help Theresa May to turn round to the really sort of the hard, right? Pro Brexit's here. Elements in her party and say, hey, you better get on side with my tail of the mice you might wind up with a delay or maybe a second referendum, and no Brexit. Our political correspondent, rob Watson Fiona has some other stories from our news desk a team from US-based Univision television has been released from detention in the Venezuelan presidential palace where they've been conducting an interview with nNcholas Maduro the team said he had not liked their questions and confiscated their equipment and recording. "Now would there longer terms of plan to one hundred thousand of those really high end expensive vehicles per year? So they said this in two thousand fifteen we delivered a total of two hundred and forty five thousand vehicles about one hundred and forty six thousand three and about one hundred thousand model as an ex to put our growth perspective, we delivered almost as many cars in two thousand eighteen than all the prior years combined from two thousand and twelve to two thousand seventeen so that is a lot of us. And as I said, they drop the price on the model three bit. I think because of the tax incentive. Going away. They wanted to sort of reduce that burden and also the model three mid range. Vision is gone now for my rate, a two hundred and sixty miles wrench to two hundred sixty four not a big do. But nice now, there's a nice little pitchy here from clean Technica, which is a graph of the deliveries of the model three and the model X s and I just want you to get a feel for that. Just in the last year we've reached that hockey stick that Ilan's being talking about. I mean, look at this. This is just gone up about one two three five fold since last year in terms of deliveries that is remarkable. Despite all this, of course, Tesla's stock price has been getting pummeled for number of reasons. One of those reasons is because all stocks in the US and probably throughout the world. Now getting pummeled last year. The stock market went down a lot. It's going down. Again. There's a lot of volatility at politically and with China, so stick tesla stock price went down because the estimates were that it was even going to be a little bit better. Than this. And I wanna go into sort of deliveries versus production because I really don't care about that stuff. But one thing and this is an article from tesla, tesla is now the biggest Selim premium automaker in the US. It has taken out BMW and Mercedes, and that is incredible for that's for a cow manufacture. That's really only been around about ten years and really only for real for five years to be able to take out the these kids that have been ran for one hundred years is absolutely amazing. And I think a big joint wakeup cool to them. So on pot of that what's next? What's going to continue to drive more has being sober tesla? It's clearly European China in the next year or so, and so we have here, and this is from the drive that tesla has begun construction that model three at gigafactory where they're going to build model threes in China. So they've got the land the put up some fencing. And what is stunning to me is that they think that they..

"They rolled back sense. Horizontal scrolling. People are too sensitive. Vertical scrolling. I had to happen on my my count. Did you freak out? I did freak out. Why did you freak out? What's the big deal? I mean, you're swiping left instead of swiping up which the kids love swimming left. And right, right right is what their thumbs are trained to do. Now. I think the allusion of the continuity in the stream is maintained more when you're vertical we have vertical stream pulled down to refresh. That's what no no because you see more because phones are tall as opposed to wide. And so when I can see two or three posts at once as I'm scrolling, even though I know this algorithm generated based on past history based on, you know, the feed it's not a locked feed, which what I think I truly want doing horizontal working on C at most two at once. Then the algorithms make us off apparent. I don't say random matters what their aspect ratio on their on their square photos that much. No, I'm with norm as if you can see there's more than it makes you want to keep going, and it makes me feel like I have a mental list of what that stream has been. And what I've seen before I've seen after and what's coming up as a postive school left. And right. It's all mystery. I mean, you can always. Rotate your phone, if you wanna pour Donal did doesn't it? Should it doesn't it should that might be a smart way for them to implement this. I it's going to come out. I think that they were testing you think you're gonna be a choice title lock in because they want people interact, and what the horizontal scrolling lets you do is a use extra vertical space to automate load comments because they want people to to engage your comments in boy as opposed to clicking the comments button and seeing the whole stream comments so vertical. Scrolling has comments horizontal scrolling. Trying to control me. Net flicks that was years ago that that train left the station. Some talk tesla announce delivered ninety thousand cars was just in the fourth quarter. That sounds good. It does sound good. It isn't according to Wall Street. Tesla stock dropped eight percent on the news because they're supposed to be in the low hundred thousands. Ooh. That's a lot of cars. It is a lot of cars. I actually, you know, Wall Street is is obviously very volatile right now. So I don't know if you read too much in this. But it is definitely short of what expectations were December. It was like the worst month since the since the thirties in terms of the Dow that news a lot of factors go into that. But for tesla owner is they got update a sweet update over the holidays. For more Easter eggs, they got a romance mode where why you get a fireplace that plays on your screen. And I believe Barry white plays. Really? Yeah. And you have a emissions testing. That's which is it's a joke mode. It actually I've used it to great effect already with the baby in the car is that you can pick a spot. It is localized speaker audio. You can choose which seat to make it sound like a fart coming from that seat Ono, and you can activate it with your turn signal or activated with the one the buttons on your scroll wheel Soviet turn on and resets. "I I think that there is a potential. He violated rules. I'm not a lawyer and I start and I, I'm not, you know, I don't work with see, and I don't know. You know those those rules. I would agree with you. I doubt that anything will come of it. Although I could see him being fined and I could see him maybe being sanctioned depending on what happens. The only thing, the only reason I think that he might face some consequences depending depends on what this does is that if I was an investor who had a very large short position on Tesla's stock and this move triggered something, and then I ended up owing a bunch of calls and owing money because of it. I would. As you said. Proving motive is very difficult, but because he did put a specific price in him because he's been very, very, very vehement about going after the the short says, he says those people, they had enough money. I would, you know, pursue a lawsuit or investigation or whatever, and and the the shortsellers at least when the people with the various positions are very wealthy people. So I wouldn't put it past them to kind of get into a war with him over the pettiness. But I'm with you that I think long term I, you know, I think this is a slap on the wrist sort of thing at best, but it is, as you say, I think it's just yet another example of light be an adult dude. Like, you know, this is this is not how like we also you thinking you can like build a submarine in three days and go insert yourself into a new cycle and go safes. Now, this is real stuff. Well, this is, but also just shows it shows a consistent lack of self control. And if I were investing in some. Something like this or if I were whatnot, like I would be, I don't know. I would be concerned about what this means and because I don't think anybody argues that he's one of one of the great minds and kind of geniuses of our time, but that doesn't make him perfect. And that doesn't mean that that he doesn't need it. Sometimes, you know, stand back and shut up and not do this sort of stuff. I don't think it helps anybody. I don't think it helps us company and I think frankly, distracts things which the cynic in me also feels like might be the point that this is this is acting as yet another distraction for whatever misled lions may or may not be happening with the model three. And in any other issues that are happening is that we all just talk about, oh, look at what lawns doing now rather than you know, looking at any other business things because despite the fluctuating kind of stock price, you know the market is still valuing tesla a company that doesn't have it stuff together when it comes to their, you know, assembly line stuff is still value. The more at many of the the legacy automobile companies. That are actually not releasing cars on schedule and making profits. So you know, whatever. I don't know. It's it's interesting. Yeah, just before we move on, I just went out something here and say, you know, we've covered him critically on this show. Yeah, on many occasions, I just I want to say I don't root for alon- to fail. No, not at all. When I when I see, I do think sometimes there's a. I think there's a tendency sometimes on the laugh to you see someone in the kind of get coded as problematic, and then everything they do is interpretive evil. I think he's a much more complicated person like you look at the working conditions at tesla in the accidents, and you know the long term quality of the cars, and that gives me pause and I see him in making statements that seem not well thought through. This certainly seemed to best case scenario is going to waste a lot of SEC people's time a part of our federal government, this underfunded to begin with. But this is still a man that kick started the American automobile industry into high gear. They, he's the man that directly led Porsche to develop the the taken excited.
