"That person to quarantine and self isolate so we anticipate that will be taking place continuing on to say quote of course if there are changes that need to be made. We will look at those. But it's very early right now to know if any changes are necessary at this point and also adding quote. There's a lot to learn. Our astronauts have been in quarantine for weeks and they should not have had any contact with anybody they should be in good shape and quote so hopefully no impact to the crew launch tomorrow but that remains to be seen as well. Oh sorry literally right. As i'm recording this we got an update from jim. Bridenstine on twitter he says quote update due to onshore winds and recovery operations nasa and spacex are targeting launch of the crew on mission with astronauts to the space station at seven twenty seven pm eastern time sunday november fifteenth. The first stage booster is planned to be reused to fly astronauts on crew to so looks like that has been delayed a day already just due to weather but at least at this point in time does still seem to be ago all right next up here. We have an interesting note from deutsche bank. This was shared by register. Thirty two over on the tesla motors club forums. They write that they have recently hosted marceca tests head of investor relations at their twenty twenty deutsche bank auto tech conference and they're summarizing key takeaways. Here in this note so a lot of this is stuff that we have been talking about but some of this is new information. They write quote testses. Large cost lovers beyond just the battery moving forward and is seeing very robust demand for its often under appreciated energy storage products moreover it continues to target a full self-driving subscription offering next year. And go up then have five. Bullet points here. Starting with quote while battery costs and capturing the bulk of headlines. Tessa believes it will garner large savings from its new plans. Shanghai berlin and austin driven by operational efficiencies facility layout much lower depreciation and amortisation supply chain proximity. I know suppliers in california and lower labor costs and quote. So i've been beating this drum for time. Operational leverage and operational efficiency continues to in my opinion be underestimated and understated at tesla. We saw a bit of this start to come through. Last quarter posted a nine point. Two percent operating margin versus last year's four point one percent and that is with tussle largely operating below production capacity so for q four as we talked about on tuesdays episode should improve pretty significantly yet again so about that. Operating leverage deutsche bank says quote in relation management is targeting a low teens operating margin in the midterm and ceaseless as a better metric relative to gross margin given. It is not overly influenced by vehicle. Pricing dynamics and illustrates the strong leverage. Tesla is generated and quote so too low teens from again we're tussle was at in q. Three of nine percent at minimum. That would be up to thirteen percent so a four percentage point increase and tesla's quarters. Going forward should pretty easily be ten billion dollars plus in revenue so instead of doing eight hundred million dollars in operating income like in q. Three you can pretty easily add half a billion dollars to that every quarter and it really shouldn't be all that long before we see a doubling of that so if we go back to q. Three and twenty nineteen does operating income was two hundred sixty million. They increase that key. Three twenty twenty.

"So rapidly isn't going to catch Wall Street a little bit off guard at least in some pockets. Anyway circling back to the rest of the Article Bloomberg, had report on this on Thursday that actually found on the Tesla Motors clubs. Forums, which I think probably came from a twitter post of a screen shot of a Bloomberg terminal article that have not been successful in tracking down anywhere else online. So I can't technically verify the existence of this article, but it looks legit and provides a bit more context on this. Panasonic News Bloomberg has provided a couple of direct quotes from Panasonic executive, Vice President who said quote? Decided on the additional investment because we are now sure the business will be profitable based on the current market demand our capacity and production efficiency demand for Tesla cars is clearly rising and quote. This MVP also added that they hope to turn their tussle business profitable this year on a twelve month basis, which we've talked about in the quarterly earnings releases from Panasonic. Before it's important for the supplier to also be profitable, otherwise, they are going to be hesitant to continue to invest. So we see that coming to fruition here, Panasonic turning profitable, and then being willing to start to invest more aggressively good to. See. That additional context I think, and also, of course, good to hear Panasonic speak positively of the demand for Tesla's vehicles I'm sure they get a bit more insight to than we do next up today I wanted to briefly touch on the situation that is unfolding in California as I'm sure many of you have heard there have been a lot of wildfires in northern California recently, obviously, not a new problem to California in general but there has been a heatwave over the last few days high winds, not a good recipe for fires so far through today those have spread through about three hundred and fifty thousand. Acres of California that is forest some valuations both from obviously necessity and also precaution. So first off thoughts go out to anybody impacted by that situation. But I think this highlights a couple of things. I. Think I obviously the impact of climate change and the urgency with which mitigation tactics and solutions need to be pursuit, and then second though this is more heat wave related than fire related California has been dealing with significant blackouts over the last few days as the heatwave has caused power consumption and power needs to increase significantly governor Newsom said in a press conference, I believe yesterday that.

"Hour here with a relatively quiet news day. So today, we're going to jump a little bit more into these speculation realm and talk a bit about the timing for the upcoming release of the model y rear wheel drive single motor variant I will start off with the last official communication that we had on the matter and that game from Ilana back in early to mid July. July. Twelfth win in a series of tweets announced that Tessa would not be doing the standard range modified due to unacceptably low rent. So at that time he said quote we have Reduced Pricing Mata Y L. are do motor and will offer anelle are. Single Motor why in a few months which improves affordability while still keeping the product excellent and quote. So that was about a month ago and then over this last weekend on August first electric published an article which said quote Tesla has started trial production of the model of long range rear wheel drive ahead of an imminent launch according to sources familiar with the matter and quote from there things have become even more interesting this week yesterday, a listener that has a long range rear wheel drive model y on order, and has since around the time of the unveiling in March two, thousand nineteen reached out and shared a text with me. That they received yesterday from Tusla without any prompting from this person, the text reads quote Tesla Update we currently expect your model-wide to be ready for delivery three to six weeks from today will continue to provide updates as your estimated timing gets closer. Please note that this timeframe is an estimate and may chef in either direction. This is an automated message for more information or to chat with US please visit Tesla com slash delivery debt and quote obviously just one person here not something to overreact to and information coming especially from the stores network at times can be incorrect but sometimes things do leak out as well. I think what the? Context of electric's report on tussle possibly starting to why rear wheel drive trial production. The timing of this text is pretty interesting and it's not just this. There are a couple other reports of some more things as well. But before we get to those, I do want to point out the updated text that this person received from to today the follow up message reads quote Tesla Update, our apologies, the previous texts sent yesterday about your model y long range rear wheel drive order was sent an error. Please disregard the timing previously provided. We do not have a timing estimate from Ottawa long range rear wheel drive vehicles at this time and. So, maybe we should just take that second text at face value and forget about it but I'm not all that convinced by that. Perhaps the error was just communicating the time line rather than the timeline itself that to me seems more realistic. Possibly Tesla is communicating something internally about the timing which was potentially not supposed to be shared publicly yet but was by mistake rather than just randomly contacting some modifier, rear wheel drive reservation holders, and telling them a delivery estimate if. It were just this one case. I could understand that a little bit better. But here's the other information that we have yesterday. There were at least a couple of rear wheel drive orders on the Tesla Motors clubs forums that posted about receiving calls from their delivery center. One poster described that as being out of the blue and the first call that they had received from a tesla delivery specialist and another again, also a rear wheel drive order holder said they got a call. From a Tesla specialist to assign and complete their paperwork in regards to trade in and financing curiously that second poster actually has a seven seater on order I don't see that coming to production anytime soon, but it is possible that Tesla didn't filter on that when maybe starting some of those prep-work for rear wheel drive order holders to make things even more interesting and a bit more confusing that second text that I mentioned, which was the follow up saying that the previous text. had been sent in air. There are a handful of other rear wheel drive order holders on the Tesla Motors Club Forum that today only received that apology texts meaning they didn't actually get that I text with delivery timeline. So not a ton of clarity here but there definitely seems to be some actions and things going on behind the scenes I would be curious if any of you that may have rear wheel drive orders have received any communication from Tesla on those orders this. Week. So please let me know on that in the comments, but I'm going to guess where there's smoke there's fire and I think Tesla has probably prepping to start rolling out the rear wheel drive here in the next few weeks we know, of course, the Tesla continues to ramp up model why there have been rumors I think troy tests like as posted on this on twitter that they're supposed to be some retooling happening in late July to bring production up for the Monterey. So I think something like that. Shortly thereafter, followed by the release of the rear wheel drive would make sense personally. That's why I'm excited about it. I think it's a good indicator of Tesla's accelerating production rate next today is some news out of Tesla China they reported on their web account that they would be starting a custom wrapping service directly from TUSLA and a few select cities in China including Beijing and Shanghai that scheduled to begin in mid August kind of an interesting. Development I can't imagine that Tesla is automating the rapping. So I think this would be a pretty labor intensive business that I don't see a ton of potential for expanding globally unless they are implementing some automation, but it just seems a little bit odd but also pretty cool for the customers with that opportunity and with.

"With an outperform rating and a nine hundred and ten dollars price target on the stock. Their analyst Giren Nathan said that tussle is quote on. On the cusp of replicating it success in the US market to potentially larger markets in China and Europe and quote and his forecasting tussle to deliver four hundred fifty thousand units in two thousand twenty course, my estimates are higher than that, and then what's really interesting? Here is something I've been harping on for I feel like a couple months now Nathan's nine hundred and ten dollars price target is. Is based on a discounted cash flow through twenty thirty by twenty thirty, he expects electric vehicles to be twenty percent of total automotive sales, and he expects three million vehicles, only from Tesla or fifteen percent of the electric vehicle market, so despite my best efforts to get people to understand how far off that is from Tesla's ambitions. It doesn't seem to be having much of an impact quite yet. She said he'd very shocked at the compound. Annual growth rate for Tesla's vehicles was under forty percent that means fifteen million vehicles in twenty thirty. Personally I would not be comfortable forecasting that Elon. Musk is going to miss a forecast that he would be very shocked to even be as low as and then he's GonNa. Miss that by another eighty percent I think people should understand that that million forecast is actually a way. Way, Boulder forecast than just going with Elon Musk, and saying tesla will do fifteen million. I don't recall many times when Eland has missed production estimates by eighty percent, and by the way that forecast dill earned nine hundred ten dollars price target for Tesla next up. Today is a report from automative management online. They published an article today with the headline of quote UK government seeking site for sprawling Tesla, ev, gigafactory and quote. Quote okay. That would be pretty interesting. Obviously muscling gigafactory focus in terms of the next one has been in the US Yulon has confirmed. That will be the case, but we also know that Tesla's not looking elsewhere for another factory. However, Eli has said in the past that the brexit situation has made a UK gigafactory too risky and I think another question. Here would be space in terms of what Tesla intends to. To do with whatever they're looking for here in the UK reportedly, because am online, said quote. An article published in Property Week said that the Department for International Trade is seeking four million square foot site to accommodate an electric vehicle, research, development and manufacturing plant for Elon Musk's GARBRANDT and quote. Four Million Square feet would be about ninety two acres, which would be quite a bit smaller than the locations for tests other Giga. Diesel has almost three thousand acres of land for gigafactory Nevada gigafactory Shanghai land areas much smaller at two hundred and ten acres roughly with the Berlin, being in the middle at about seven hundred and forty acres, so this area would be less than half the size of tussles. Smallest gigafactory location doesn't mean they couldn't put gigafactory on that size of land, obviously they and tussles working really hard to reduce the footprint of their manufacturing process, but I thought that. That size was worth pointing out because I. DO expect this'll probably get picked up and probably reported on pretty widely. Even though we don't really have all that much information on it right now I'll be curious to hear people's thoughts on that in the comments. Especially, those of you that live in the UK, but that'll mostly do it for today. The other thing I just WanNa know quickly. IS THAT SOMEBODY ON TESLA MOTORS CLUBS FORUMS? Did say that Ron. Ron Baron is expected to appear on CNBC on Monday June first..

"Its wifi six chips. That's pretty soon. Us Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is the latest legislature to propose a National Law on digital privacy. Her bill proposes a new federal agency. To Enforce Consumer Privacy Rights Online. It would not preempt state laws meaning that it would not create national standards for privacy in the US it's similar to proposals from US representatives and as shoe and Zoe lofgren as well as well as from US senator. Maria Cantwell a bipartisan proposal from representatives Jan Schakowsky and Cathy mcmorris. Rogers don't include state preemption and Uber's testing an option to let you book arrived by phone in Arizona by dialing one eight three three use uber. I want to see a TV commercial for this right. Now it's meant for people who you know not comfortable with smartphones. Maybe they're older operator. Gives them a price estimate and order a car based on their details and then text them information about the car and driver so person calling does have to have text Messaging Uber? Stores your payment data the same way it would through the APP all right. Let's talk a little bit about aim. Nother Senate proposal. What's this one about Justin Well Tom? Us Senators Cory Booker and Jeff. Merkley proposed the ethical use of artificial intelligence act Wednesday. That would stop the use of facial recognition without a warrant by federal agencies government employees and law enforcement until eight thirteen member congressional commission can recommend guidelines and place limits on the use of the technology. Yeah this is. This is something that shouldn't surprise people with all the furor over facial recognition but even if it is a political play it does seem to me to be a fairly reasonable writing of it saying you know what. Let's just put a pause on federal use until we figure this out. Let's set up commission. We'll have different people be able to nominate people for the congressional commissions that we try to get a lot of different viewpoints on this and then figure out what the rules of the road should be. One of the things people are taking issue with is they did carve out an exception in this proposal for USA facial recognition with a warrant. They're saying if you have a warranties facial recognition than you can so that cuts out on it being used for for Leeds. Unless you're really serious you have to go to a judge and get a warrant some people say. Yeah but it's still not good enough even for that. Depends on where he said. Yeah obviously there is a lot of discussion and I'm glad that this is happening out in the open so as much as my knee jerk reaction to something like this is to say. Wait a minute. Something's in the news a please do not stand between this story and senators who want airtime as they will trample you but I do think there is a good public conversation that needs to be had about this and even if it's ultimately ineffectual at least it is something that we're bringing up here and folks who are listening can talk to with their friends and family. Yeah and I guess the question at this point is I mean. Where does it go? It doesn't sound as you said. Tom Fairly measured no no huge red flags but does go anywhere. Yeah what does the commission come up with? Does that proposal go forward? Part of the reason you put a pause on it though is there will be pressure from law enforcement and other agencies to want to use it. So that'll keep it going forward what they decide if this bill even gets approved which it may not as a whole different thing. Well as we reported on Wednesday's show Mobile World Congress was canceled because the G. S. A. Founded impossible to put the show on despite health officials not requiring to actually be cancelled. Most big names had pulled out already leaving smaller companies without anything for the money that they spent in preparation and without the chance to make contacts and build awareness for their products by a lot of people go to trade shows. In addition many companies are facing other problems related to the Chinese Corona virus which has shut down factories in China. Meaning parts for their products are also delayed. Firms of all sizes are looking for alternate ways to make announcements and build relationships including more smaller trips and meetings and independent press conferences. Now I guess the question is now even though the GSA says it will hold the show next year. We'll some companies figure. We got through it. Okay maybe we don't need to go. Yeah that's the dangerous thing right as a lot of people think they have to go to something until they don't go and then realize wait a minute. I mean as a CEO veteran. I've never been to WNYC. But I can tell you I mean a lot of work does not get done it Ed. Various trade shows. I'M GONNA go ahead and guess that a lot of trade shows are that way. Schmoozing isn't always just of time. There is a lot of business being done but I bet a lot of companies who think we have to be there? We'll figure well are alternate solutions. Ended up being more fruitful for us in the end. Yeah I don't think the the issue is necessarily them not going but spending the kind of money that they would normally do too big the bid to be the big fish at a conference like that does potentially take a hit when you go without it and everything's kind of because I do agree with Sarah that a lot of what you get out of here is just having all the players in one space where you can trade information build relationships or make deals but maybe buying that gigantic booth Different story maybe taking everybody out for those a big expensive A curated experiences. Maybe not so necessarily and it's also hard on the smaller companies with a lot of the big companies pulling out before they even cancelled it. It was going to be more difficult for the smaller companies. Who were still going to go to to find the kind of eyeballs and years that they would want but if they can get it from the press if they could make some deals with other small companies. It could have been worthwhile now. They're going to have to figure out okay. Can we just spend a lot more money? Probably flying around two meetings in Europe and North America in China to to get our message out there and take meetings. It doesn't have the efficiency of just walking around in a conference and being able to meet up with people that maybe you wouldn't even met otherwise and and striking deals that. That's what the value of a conferences is those serendipitous things and you can't really replace those whether it's worth that time and expense though we will now have an AB test for attendees mobile regards to figure that out the US filed a superseding indictment against Wa wa and it's CFO among zoo among Guangzhou of courses in Vancouver under house arrest while she awaits extradition decision by the Canadian courts But this supersedes previous indictments it charges wall way multiple versions of always business and monk Longzhu with conspiring to violate the racketeer influenced and corrupt organizations. Act Rico Act and conspiring to steal trade secrets. It also contains new allegations regarding violations of sanctions against North Korea. And Iran. Those were some of the original indictments against Mungu among the allegations are using confidentiality agreements with US companies to obtain things like router source code in other words. You strike a deal say yes. We'll keep this confidential. You look at the router source code and then you misappropriate that And put it in your own property without permission. The indictment lists other concrete examples like distributing confidential slide decks to the engineers. You meet with a company under a confidentiality agreement. Nda you're not supposed to take that slide deck can pass it around. The rest of the company will always accused of doing that There's another example of someone at a trade show in Chicago with a badge that spelled y way backwards as their name being caught after hours opening up routers from the competition and taking pictures of the interior other charges involved just lying to federal investigators hiding employment status saying no. We're not employee away when they actually are I mean this has to go to trial these accusations. They haven't been proved But this is a different kettle of fish than the back door accusations because we can see exactly what they're accusing. We can see evidence and it's going to be going to court. There's enough here to make me think like this is just an actual case that the US wants to file because they've discovered wrongdoing. But just in there is also a political aspect of this with the China trade deals going without a doubt and real quick. Just so everybody understands when you hear the term Rico if it sounds familiar it's because this is the tool that law enforcement often uses for organized crime drug dealers or mafiose. If you can't catch him on the dealing you catch him on the racketeering well yeah and you can prove by way of actions that spider outside of the actual person that you are looking to bring charges against you can use those other crimes to charge the central person. But you're right Tom. This is obviously in the large very complicated very personal at times negotiation of this trade deal we already have a phase one that has done between the Chinese government and the United States government but phase. Two which is often thought to be the far more trickier one involves at the top line. Trade secrets which China has been accused by many many companies of violating largely because America goes to China to manufacture so many products. But this is something that is even beyond that they are not alleging that a while way was taking advantage of Chinese side manufacturing. They're saying that even beyond that these were crimes that were being committed on American soil. That that they are coming back against them for and we're not going to see except for. Maybe IF CANADA GREECE TO EXTRADITE WE'RE NOT GONNA see most wise officials brought into the US for this What I'm curious about is whether this can or will be used in the negotiations if they ended up dropping these charges in exchange for a trade deal. Or if this is just a solid thing to say. Look we're going to prosecute this no matter what you WanNa stop doing this in the future. If you WANNA get a trade deal from us. Yeah I think part of me says this is them saying look we're GONNA start enforcing the rules. And so we can create new rules going forward so this is easier. And maybe we can have an intermediary phase where we believe. These things are happening. And you're going to have to actually respond to us or this is going to be the thing that happens. But we're not. I mean who knows whether or not they wipe away this sin when they start creating a new a new set of rules. So we'll definitely want to keep an eye on you know Tom last week. We talked about the Jalopy Nick Report. That a man name. Alec brought bought a used Tesla that he thought had enhanced autopilot and full self driving features only to find out that removed those features during an audit that showed he had not paid for the package which of course he hadn't the original owner had that led to questions about whether Tesla's trying was tying packages to the original owner. Well Monday Alex. Posted on Tesla Motor Club Dot com. That everything is back to normal. He has also offered act as a go-between with Tesla's experienced team for others who might have the same issue. Tesla does these audits in order to correct for people who have been given the package without paying by mistake which has happened or war. Who Modified to get the package without paying which has also happened. Tesla has not made a public statement on the issue or clarified its policy on the transfer of packages in used cars. When I saw the headline that he got his autopilot back. I'm like Oh thank. Goodness Tesla is admitting this was a mistake. And they're giving it back to them. Once I read in that it was just Alex saying hey I got it back. I have the secret phone number. If anybody wants it and Tesla's not saying anything in public. I got less happy about the outcome of this because I still believe what happened is Tesla is trying to stop a mistakes that they have made and militias actors. Who are modifying without permission from getting these packages and aren't accounting for the fact that used car sales happen because they haven't happened historically a lot with Tesla and they just caught out on this. Why they're not coming out. And saying that is evidence of disorganization. I think. Yeah I mean the Tesla already got their money from the original owner so I can't see a scenario where the company says. Nah It just going to have to be original owner and if you pay for something that you didn't pay extra for the package even though we already got the money we want it twice and you won't get it otherwise we'll take it out of your car. That would be like you know if accompanied said Sarah can't have because she didn't get like the cool packing used car because I bought a used car. I mean I know that you know software is not the same as you know an AC unit. But it's the same idea I think has probably they're trying to figure out. Okay how do we continue to make sure that we're not giving people software packages that they didn't pay for and continue to deal with the fact that people play around with systems to try to get stuff for free? You'RE NOT GONNA be able to have much control over that US car market. You've got your money. The the one thing that they do need to clarify on this. Is that the. The price of that car is going to be determined by the features. And so if they're going to say no no. No no we are doing this as a service and you pay for it each time that there is a new owner then that car is going to sell different as a used car then it would be without it so there is a value for. Tesla at a certain point if they do want to go to a no every new user has to pay the pay the toll on this they. They need to clarify going forward. But this to me says without saying that no once it's turned on its turned on sell us carper more because of it. I'm imagining a PR manager. Talking to someone saying okay but what's our policy. What can I tell people when I and they're like you can't tell them anything? We don't have a policy. We really should create meeting four. Pm Everybody. Scientists at Switzerland's F pl have developed three d printer that can build an entire object at once in seconds rather than building it layer by layer which obviously takes a lot longer than that. That would be like you know if accompanied said Sarah can't have because she didn't get like the cool package used car. Because I bought a used car..

Awed right because he's short on any collusion to do everything he and right to get his freaking money back out of it because every time. I don't know if you noticed this is every time there's a stock jumped. Shorts lose two or three billion dollars. Evidently Mr Einhorn's Fund greenlight capital has lost from from ten billion dollars. And that's a lot. This is down thirty four percent now. Don't don't don't really understand the year this year. Thirty four percents stay with me on okay. That doesn't seem like a good investment to me. Does he wanted to go up. A put a Duller in seventy four a good idea how we can we can hedge our money. Invested in Tesla is GonNa go Short on greenlight capital. Actually sort of fun. But you know it's all about betting look at like like I looked at the S. and P. Five hundred which talk about in a second there are so many versions of the SNP the fifteen hundred the one hundred hundred. They've got the the five five hundred is the one that's the index that people fall and also just so you people know out there you people. This is not in any way shape or form a stock recommendation. Aw Listen to the three of US idiots own tests the stock Asada entrust myself in an. We shouldn't trust any ideas about about stock market purchasing. Do not what ought to give you some investment adverse uh-huh. Okay Hilo stick it under the pillow. Okay you can listen to some things but don't listen to that because that's really bad. My zero lose money because of inflation I would recommend the side from hello a fire. Safe California yes or gold. Then you can just pick up the puddle e pieces of gold shirts Nelson to your foundation left. I've seen that. But yes so the interesting thing about this story again from Tesla. Roddy is that Yuan. Musk penned an open. Invite to. This known Tesla shorter. Mr Einhorn Aka Mr Unicorn Unicorn to come to the factory. See the good things that Tesla is doing and he would give him a tour which which is quite amazing. Like how much would you pay for to give you a tour. Would you pay ten billion dollars. Yes although Einhorn has claimed many many times that he's asked for that and not gotten it so there's a little bit of a pissing match as to WHO's getting way in addition in addition to getting a tour of the Tesla Factory from you on Alon on is offering to send him another box of short shorts. He actually sent him short shorts. The short shorts came from this short art company. Did I write the name down. He's Chubby. He's and they showed in a tweet in this article like a box of the most ugly very short shorts. Something that you would want to kind of maybe take. I don't know to a Queen Festival. They did wear short shorts back in the day. Yeah you had 'em Tom. y'All did yeah. Yeah you guys enjoy the rest of the show. I'm leaving so anyway. This was very snarky letter but at the same title it shows sort of I think a little bit of Yulon moving towards maybe some civility some recognition. He called him Mr Unicorn and sent him short. Short says no civility really in that he didn't call him an asshole. He did the better. It's going to get him in trouble with the SEC. But you remember what your mom said when you were a kid and maybe your mom said this to you as well. Nice to you. Say to somebody. Don't say anything. She said shut up idiot different. That's not quite the leadership you'd be hoping for if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything you know. Just she just mostly said. Don't say anything. Bring me that bottle to in some cigarettes. I'm GONNA divert this so this was I think a good idea. I think this was nice. It would have been nicer Sir if he was nicer. Of course. He's half appealing to us. Right the Tesla Universe nation and And also also this sort of brought this back to my mind a story from about a year ago where Tesla was being considered to be included in the S. and P. Five hundred and at that time all they needed eighty to do with show. I think it was five consistent quarters of Prophet. And we're right on the cusp of that that Tesla could be included rooted in the S. and P. Five hundred it is by market cap one of the largest companies in America and it meets all of the inclusion criteria for the being SNP and if they are included in the SNP. It's an immediate bump you could not guarantee. I'm not giving you advice. But most companies see up five. I percents bump in their stock price. Because all of the funds that are out there that are quote mimicking or index indexing the S. and P. Five hundred would be Obligated to buy Tesla stock. That's right and when it happened for twitter which is also a tech company. Their stock went up not only five percent but continued up to twenty percent percent boost. So this would be good for Tesla. Yes Oh you on thank you for trying to keep your mouth shut and I hope you can continue. Thank you for trying to keep your mouth shut by calling a guy Mr Unicorn. Sending him short shorts. It's weird Robert. You see the weird that called me of what you just said the dude. Thank him for the short shorts relative. He didn't call it a pedophile. Yes he's getting better. He didn't like this. I don't know what what okay you mother. What is happening suspicious? That's right it's always the booze Robert and the booze. You're a nasty nasty drunk. Robbers skip this next. One goes straight to editing maps autumn. Taunus Auto Auto Thomas Auto Matana mountainous strike a Montana. auto-pilot going for you gentlemen lately been doing a little bit of piloting of the recall assumingly. Good Elvis oh I have a lemon away. You can't turn your autopilot so wait hold on this. Oh that might be the most tyrannic aspect of this whole situation. Raise your hand if you've paid for full. SELF-DRIVING I dunno more than once. Oh hello to free heads. Have you know. I think it's just your for multiple and currently you can't use any version of it on the vehicle that you pay Tom. It depends on the day. Some days can consolidate your computer. No they just hit refresh and say oh. It's fine now I'm like Oh the lost three times we did that. Didn't work out. You know what Einstein said if you keep doing the same thing and getting the wrong result. It's insanity to keep doing the same thing and getting the wrong result so I should just stop taking it to the service center. Yeah you should just leave it there. This one's yours. Here's what senator. I just got a beautiful new software update and I'm hoping that magically is going to make it work all the time this is the model three little there is almost out of your life anyways. No the model three Astana ran for for while the Model S. s S. also having exactly the same problem. The Veton upgrade fixed it networks all the time. Now it's going. Well you had two cars that you produce cul. self-driving that no self driving worked on for a very intimate ended amount of an for the S. It was like months at a time. I wonder if it's because you charge. Your cars via solar caller could be solar. It's like the power that goes into the twenty seventies in your power. Wall corrupts the battery. I ah twice probably on the way home. A couple of nights ago from the hospital I was driving on the freeway. and Lo and behold it it said autopilot not available and when I saw that I almost in my pants thinking about now thinking about the fact that I might lose the ability to drive in fact I even took a picture of it. Here says navigate on autopilot currently unavailable features may be restored on next drive Dr and while I was driving it went away interesting. What happens if you don't have your hands on the wheel for a while? That's no it's not. The Red Hands Hands on the wheel comes back that's different. I think it's different because that's the message you get if the after the red hands go you get flashing all around the angry. They'll say once that goes away now taking over the car idiot and stupid. It doesn't do any any of those things as a matter of fact but I have one problem. My biggest problem that I had with autopilot. The most recently was transitioning from four zero five snore north to one zero one west. Yes Lash North yes when it hits that that transition road curvy under leeway arose starts to slow the hell down. Sometimes it does because that's a twenty five mile an hour curve so if you're doing sixty five up to that point it really starts and that causes houses all kinds of problems so I had to take out of auto parts I was. That was a little better a little smoother transition. I still don't like it when the car just decides to all all of a sudden slow itself down quite then does occur occasionally but I've definitely done hundreds of miles autopilots last met and it's been running really really well for me. That's really appreciated. Maybe a little bit more Gigli in the lane like abrupt correction. Stay in the middle of the lane. I've noticed that a bit but I'm still running software. Twenty nine thousand nine hundred thirty two dot eleven and I think the latest one is dot twelve. That's true twelve twelve extra seven on the s on the three of dot thirty six. So just go your way ahead of the three. I'm on thirty to twelve of two on the three and only sixteen one one on our ass which is a much older S. But I don't know what I like about. The new V ten is the way it moves moves away from trucks feature which goes it used to just go right down the middle of the lane no matter what if there's a semi trailer they bouncing around next to you you and it would just leave you in the center lane. North normal drivers would move over to away from the tre and V ten now does it. It's gigantic truck. Let me just scoot a little over to the other sort of the lane and all right thank you what that makes me stop disengaging autopilot at least fifty percents but it has. It was a problem for me. One time name so I was in the fast lane right. So that's the far left Ling. Born right the number one lane is the far left lane wasn't in that lane. I was in the number two lane and the two big rig was in the number three lane and and motorcycles split the one two lane right and so what happens. Unfortunately as if there's a rig and your tesla autopilot and it moves over to the left closer to the number one lane at the same time. Motorcycle is splitting. That's pretty problematic. Motorcyclist amager in your site humira potentially a in the computer is going well. It's the probability of doing motorcycle or a truck. I'll choose the motorcycle. Yeah for sure but I just wanted to point like that and I've been having a lot of trouble with the the summit in the parking lot of I've been trying the smart summon a little bit more and more and if I'm only say a twenty yards away from the car really doesn't work well. At all opinion you have to be much much farther away but I'm afraid to be that much farther away and keep and not have my is completely on what the car is doing what. I'm doing the testing on it so I used a couple of Fridays ago in a big open parking lot when I was with a friend and again again if not me but other people I think I spoke about this on the Lascaux Giddy with excitement. See this four thousand plus pound on vehicle moving through a parking lot with no one behind the wheel going. Oh my God I mean I guess. I'm screaming as the car racing but I can only get into like back out like a couple of times. I've got to back out and I was to the west of it and it backed out and started to go to the east. For whatever reason right it just was acting really mid to. I'll tell you something tom you know like you. I heard what you said about me on this show and I don't like it. Ilan sent me. A message is torment. You fix that. No Robert so I came across this article from Tesla Motors Club blog. Okay Tesla owners can edit maps to improve summon roots and I thought it's not necessarily a new source and it was kind of an interest I don't cover their their material Israel that much but this the hit it on the nose. The crowd sourcing improvement. That Tesla uses so it's basically an open maps program and and you can go online I don't have the details here. But I'm going to suggest you go to the Tesla Motors Club Dot COM blog.

"It's a vibe vibrator built into the steering wheel I usually signal. So that usually that's fifty. Signal all the time. Hey L, it's event. Tis the battery tick because, you know, people really get. Bet you take. So this is from tesla Roddy? But it's not really from tesla from Sean Mitchell. Well day, fairs wrote it, but it's about a student who I cannot pronounce his name can somebody help me Ravindra can pi-, thank you. And this whole thing if you did you scroll down to the bottom of this article. It's a two hour interview on Sean Mitchell's YouTube with this guy. This. So. Don's been like really digging deep and Sean has gotten me into a couple of Tessa live events. He's from he's from Colorado from Colorado. He's got these realtor in Colorado, Colorado. He's got a YouTube channel which for some reason, the name of escapes me Now Sean is going to hate me forever. So I'm gonna have to look it up, Sean Mitchell tests done with this. So he interviewed he's been back and forth with this guy who's a PHD candidate, a lottery search into batteries. And he basically just went top to bottom. It's a two hour interview about the tech of batteries, but Mel will now summarize, so sorry shown might just read this and tesla ready. So this Scuola at the university of Illinois in Chicago, says this tension between energy density cost and cycle life and like sort of work against each other. The summary is that everybody wants more battery range, but that sort of affects the costs and. Cycle. But in the end he said, testers basically doing everything, right? They've got the right shape. They've got cylindrical sills. They've got the right cooling which is really important for the longevity of batteries is to have liquid cooling of air cooling, tesla liquid, a lot of other people do echoing batteries on as good. They use less kobylt. In fact, I might get to the point where they'll use zero kobylt. And that's good, because expensive and because basically children are being used minded in some places, and they're really good about educating the consumer about things to do not to like, don't judge percent all the time. Don't you super chatting all the time? And so put an altogether. This is part of the reason why tesla batteries are better stronger last longer. So brings up a question for you. The range guy that's your new, Nick. That's. And Sean Mitchell YouTube is all things EV. So there you go. Thank you, Sean. Sorry about that. You if all of this is correct, and they could give you more rain, but less battery life. Would you take it too much? There is percent. Less. Last for for five hundred miles on your currently, then it wouldn't be more wrench because it'd be more into the first year and then the second year would be range, and then the next year be less so. The life span of tesla battery at this point is quite long. They say the model three are versions of the model three three or four hundred thousand miles. That's. Ever driven a car. I had a Volvo, that I that I didn't drive a three hundred thousand miles, but it went three hundred thousand miles hundred mansion, another hundred thousand. It. It's plenty mind. Blowing it's plenty of miles because I'm at the year and a half and I'm at twenty thousand miles in the model three. So I'm looking at another what ten fifteen years to get to three hundred nine it's crazy. So I think, you know, Mel, I'm speaking with says. His reign. Uh-huh. All right. Should say he would sell his lung jeopardy of his car for range. He's like, you know, don't rust. Right. So that's a good. So let's not look at it as like yearly degradation. But let's look at it as you can get us five hundred miles out of your current battery, but it only lasts two hundred and fifty thousand miles, but it doesn't work like that. It's not just. Three medical. Okay. Yeah. Okay, I'll take the right take the range, can I tell you about my mobile, three because people really care mazing, if we could talk about this update back in the day, my hundred and ten single mode RIA, wheel model free two three hundred twenty five miles range when. Now, it only goes three hundred ten so it's back and that happened overnight, and it feels like the selfish said, don't really get three twenty five and note that, there was like magic fifteen miles of five percent degeneration of it just feels like tesla just way on that Bank. Anybody else see that when they judge what's going on here? I don't know the answer to that. But I'm gonna find out this week and we will answer that question. Whether or not my carbon. So here's the thing. My car is two softwares, bad believe at this point. Did you get that update though? You got the twenty five I got the three twenty five eight for sure. Because I charged it the next day fully doesn't ache. And I got to it. And so that was great. I'm just saying. I wonder what just may or is it the whole world? But that was supposedly based on some efficiencies. They got in the motor necessarily something in the battery. To the motor. Yeah. Now, mine's gone. Decided that they didn't want to have that. Because now if you if you were one of those people who charge, your battery to a hundred percent and it was really on the edge of that three twenty five anyways that was really one hundred percent. Maybe they just felt like for the long jeopardy of the battery, they're going to protect you from yourself. Mel well, I wish if they should say something again if it's just a quick in my thing right now. Or if it's the if everybody else is having an issue. So let us know. I'd like to talk about the world's largest energy storage project. I wish there was more information in she is leading an ambitious project developed. What it claims to be the world's largest energy story per project. And I gotta tell you that it is a little bit on the information about the information goes like this, this big soult, Kevin's that are owned by some other group. And with the Celt Kevin's, they again to basically with their excess renewable energy do pumped air, compressed air into they sell Kevin. So the. At and you don't need all the energy say run the pumps, and you compress air into this cabin. That's how it sounds when it comes out. They're also doing producing hydrogen which they gonna mix initially with natural guests so that they can have that as well. They're not gonna actually mix the two together. They're gonna use natural gas to run their power plant, but they can transition to hydrogen, which they can also shove underground. They're also using flow batteries. So if these flow batteries, which are better than lithium batteries in terms of longevity in terms of the generation of time, and the more liquid you put in the biggest metric and be it's not so good for cause or for industrial size one's pretty good. And in the end they say they're gonna have enough scale for storage to SUV one hundred and fifty thousand US homes with no seasonal variation, which means it's a big site. So it's a combination of a bunch of different renewable technologies working in unison to provide energy and energy storage. So unlike solar or batteries. Whatever when the lights go out, it will still be able to provide energy is that kind of that is a good amount of it to batteries, a great lithium batteries, a great. I'm loving the tesla Powell's. But if you really want to have robust multiple day, maybe multiple week backup right now, lithium-ion batteries to expense, and the size of this. It's just much more scalable than like, I don't know how many families do we know? And I know we know the answer this, but I don't know off hand. How many families are households? The big Australian battery thing is serving. It's something like just four hours of that. It can do are for like fifty thousand but it's. But they're using it just sort of births of energy in this, how long this would work. Like they're not saying it's more than four hours, one hundred fifty thousand. That's what I'm saying. It was a little light on the actual details. Fhimah. Let's talk about soup. Do you have a super charger update? I do good. What is happening? Okay. I'm gonna tell you. So it's been a couple of weeks since we lost it, this, this fifty new super. Let's, let's find out I thought he said fifteen I said, fifty he said, fifty did he zero open suppo? We've been -ticipant getting a surge in supercharge activity. Surge terminology. Thank you for the rest of us. Surge in supercharge activity, given the fact that they have re upped, the super charger plan to build these V three superchargers and indeed open superchargers, Doug dunk done in less than two weeks. The last time we did this was on eighteenth of may S nineteen open superchargers. That's not fifty. That's good. And that includes like urban superchargers. I can San Francisco. They opened up a super charger in the city. Crazy didn't expect that. I know whereas kilowatt off to look the finishing. Yeah. And then they opened up one in Big Sur. Yeah. So that one very excited to the slide. It's on the Pacific Coast Highway at telling this beautiful drive that goes all the way up the California coast, but it hasn't been great for supercharging. You want to go see the whales and the fishes in the water. But the hasn't been good supercharging the super chatting has been on the mall inland. Wanna one on the five say this opens up some nice trips up and down the coast. They're excellent. How many there? Big Sur has eight stalls but it's only seventy two kilowatt. In Big Sur, everything moves mellow. Yes shellac on so excited that one going so this super charger in San Francisco is on Letterman drive inside the Presidio in front of Lucas film. They you go. Six stalls. Seventy two kilowatt max bet. You five hundred dollars that during Monday through Friday work hours. It's always fall. Yeah. I'm sure that's five hundred. Yeah, unless unless there's one that is designated Hindi camp. Then it'll be on all, but one full and I wanted to make a note there was a super charger in Mexico. Mexico is now up to fourteen superchargers and you can drive from, like Houston, and Dallas, all the way street through to Mexico City and the coast of Acapulco all with tesla now knows. And that, and I you know, that was amazing because it was only maybe a year year year ago that they opened up the first super charger in Mexico, and we're like, whoa, one isolated super charger. But obviously they have a connection and commitment. There are under construction ready seventeen. Yeah. Come on. Which includes one in Menlo Park, which is a place where if you look on the super charger map that little south region of the San Francisco Bay area is full of supercharge packed. But it does also so full of Tesla's, which is the future, right? If we -ticipant tesla continuing to pump out, you know, five to ten thousand cars week those cars are going to continue to flood into urban areas where people have the extra cash to buy the cars that it's going to require these intensely. Concentrated super charger installations. Yeah. And just a little update on the Lucasfilm San Francisco on it's in a paid parking structure. Unfortunately six bucks an hour that's no Boina, or five sitting, which is congested. So you probably should Puckett. So said lovely or space got some lovely picture here on the test. Lovely dry and clean. When you come back out to it. It's only nice. If you have to drive into the city, you've just got to do it and get a pack for few from meeting, gap, Huck, and charge up. That's good. I'd like to see a lot more of this, because scientists was quite loud. I'd like to see I'd like to see light pole charging. It is the future, it is. I have seen it home Senate. There are a lot of permits out there only two new permits in this last two weeks. That's That's not good. a slowdown in build in few weeks. If there's only two permits, although there was a note in this tesla motor club. Post about this one is that San Francisco. One was never listed as like impress. Right. It just it just appeared. Yeah. So maybe you know there some like lack of information kind of being put in the super charger update that you're getting your information. The supercharge update comes from these kind of, like, really died in the wool crazy fans of tesla, and people who bought a tesla and in their area are just aching for a super charger. Like I am. There's a second one plan for San Santa Monica, which was supposed to be the bell or the car hop. You know, burger joint super charger, I pass through that lot or pass Rato right in front of that lot. Two three four times a week. It's still just a lot. Yeah. It's I wanted to be a lot more. Remember almost a year ago. Now the Calabasas stuff I found. Right. And it's still there in crates, that are all weather, just not, not even. Close to being billion. If that's putting this poem. It's I get the payments because they're supposed to be a whole set up in the Pacific Palisades at this new mall, kind of like planned mall community kind of thing, which is one of the Caruso properties, and that was supposed to be a super charger. It's off the map. It's not existent anymore, and I've been there. I've looked around there's a bunch of standard level to chargers, and there's plenty of room for tesla chargers. But it just didn't happen wonder if Calabasas is also Caruso thing, and maybe there's something Caruso. Yes. There you go. Maybe so committed to putting chargers into every one of his locations that he got his press release and now he's. Oh, so cynical. Thank you. So anyway, I think that this is exciting. Although I think that the discovery of new superchargers is not gonna happen quite as reliably because we don't have as many enthusiasts looking for them as there are superchargers being built. So it may be tesla may very well. Sneak a lot more superchargers by us. That's hope so..

"The. Info your Ilan daily. How the token tests the podcast, and I am very excited very super at very very excited because update to the S and in that up to the is you can now do battery pre conditioning. So the idea there is that you're going on a long distance. And it says, okay, stop at the super charger and charge here, and what it will do before it gets it'll start to warm the batteries up and supposedly this can increase the rate of charge by about twenty-five percent at the two supercharge because they've increased V to supercharging to up to one hundred and fifty kilowatts, right? A hundred and fifty kilowatts if you're by yourself on that boiler ballot ballad if you buy yourself a theoretical one hundred and fifty kilowatts with his pre conditioning now as I remember tesla said that is for one hundred kilowatt hour battery packs. And in fact, who was this from cleantech Neha, actually, cold them, ask them. Now, are you shirts for the hundreds? And they said yet just for the hundreds four now. And then what they're going to do is trait other veteran PECS to make sure this works. So this might actually come hundred and fifty two urging might come down to the other cows Ivan s with a ninety kilowatt, I'll betcha pack. I haven't got to use it yet on one of these hundred and fifty kilowatt V two charges. But it'll be interesting to see exactly where it maxes out. Now, if I go into my screen now, and I click on superchargers here in California. Oh, Hello, ding. If I click on how many kilowatts the charges now saying one hundred fifty haven't done all my Mexican run into the car now and do more of them. But at least the ones in the air like in Santa Monica and Cova city and the ones I clicked on the all now saying peak rate of one hundred fifty but remember that still probably just full. Hundred kilowatt hour battery, and I'm sure we'll hear more, but that's twenty five percent with the battery pre conditioning, and that is great that should get you by my estimate, if you're in a model three instead of a peak of around five hundred miles per hour of judging a theoretical like six hundred and twenty five miles per hour of charging which is sweet, and I should say the model three should get full one hundred and fifty kilowatts. So it should be a model three and the hundred kilowatt be trees for s an ex is my understanding. So let's do this. Let's go to the car and have a look at the screen and see where these one hundred and fifty kilowatt charge is up because question is is it a change to the superchargers themselves where they have to bring in more pipe and more electrons. Or is it a chain simply to the Cobbing to accept more. Let's go do some crappy audio from the. And we're gonna look for some superchargers and the boy and someone's at so it's a busy day here in California. I'm looking at the meme on zooming out. And let's do his one here is Santa Clarita, which is north of Los Angeles. And it's ten of twenty four stills available hundred fifty kilowatt Mack. Okay. Let's go. Let's go to this one here and Oksana it's twenty Stolz seventeen of which available hundred and fifty kilowatt MAC, very exciting. Let me see if I can find the one and in all on and where you want off on one of eight stills available hundred fifty reason I did the one in wholesome is because that's where SpaceX is. And that's where we're supposed to beginning to charges that due to supervise three to fifty killer. Let me let me get out of California. Like Hans little slow connection and go all the way here somewhere. I don't know where that is not refreshing. But I'm gonna press on it. So this is in Whistler, British Columbia later heels seventy two so that is a metro charger and here is running squeamish British Columbia. All right now, if I said that right? It to is a hundred and fifty kilowatt charges so through North America here, it looks like all of the twos having upgraded to a hundred and fifty kilowatt. So that's pretty interesting. Right. So now it begs the question if through validation, they decide the car can take even fuss to charge and just a firm, we upgrade will allow to occur. What is the max? That's at these v two's is it getting two hundred kilowatts per Belot. Is that the number? What is the number? What could we get up to if they continue to show that they can safely judge these vetoes faster? It would be. Kind of sweet if it was sort of ran the two hundred kilowatt range while that would be a significant improvement. You know, notice fosters the threes. But what is going to be the right? Limiting step is the actual sort of chatter in the car is at the heat when you start pumping that many electrons through would you'd have to change at the cables. But this is exciting it suggests that we can go even further. See once you give me one fifty I want two hundred once a two hundred one two when I got to V three, and I get to fifty you know, I'm gonna want three fifty and on and on it goes. But this is a pretty exciting. And before we go further, I got a disturbing Email for home poll be who says, you know, that Times Square billboard piece that you did on your daily show about the fact that this Chinese rideshare company had gotten two hundred and seventy three's and twenty percent of them were just useless. And it was taking forever to get them fixed. He sent me to a tesla Motors club thread, which suggests that that hoping was fake and that I should never use business businesses. Sort of goes it's full of crap. I actually can't work out from that. If it's fake, but I'll take you at your would pull be that story was host poopie, and it's really disturbing that it's hard to tell. Now win stuff is fake or not. So if anybody else has any information on that whether that whole thing was complete crap on a let you know. But I will say this. I've had to take my s and three. Ex in quite a few more times than I have my Priok house. So until recently, I'm sort of the Honda Civic guy and Toyota Highlander, and they basically never broke. There was a little recalls in the Highland, but the amount of times rinky-dink little things the modal threes and Xs and SS have had to go back is really too much frankly, and it shows that they've still growing pains when it comes to just the just the little things that used to happen sort of in a stray in. The American because in the seventies and eighties. They just won't put together and the Japanese Ren way ahead with their lean technologies in their ability to fixing. So it just seems to me that tesla the catch up. "tesla motors club" Discussed on Slate's If Then

"He's trying to do is unlike what anyone else's ever tried before, and that's why so many people really love him into your point about how musk is very Trump ask. I think the more fascinating thing is that you know, there's this real confirmation bias around around lawn, and so not just, you know, he is Trump like in the way that he tweets, but the way that people respond him is very much like red state blue state in terms of. Really egging him on or or or feeling like he's a fraud as it's just it's fascinating. We just look at Twitter like blue state, it's it's just it's just really interesting reminds me of Steve Jobs. People used to say, had the reality distortion field right where everybody around him, just believe that the impossible is possible and it seems like musk, maybe as much as jobs maybe even more. Has that going for him as well. And I think what's important remember is that a lot of things that align musk has set out to do. No one thought was possible. And then once he achieves those things like the benchmarks move. And so people have been downing him ever since he began. I mean, no one ever thought that SpaceX was going to fly rocket and they did, and then no one ever believed that SpaceX would successfully land rocket on drone ship which they've done now several times. And so it's like there's always there's always something that people don't believe he's going to be able to pull off like, no one believed that they would be able to be sexy, electric car. They did. No one believed that they would able be able to make the model three. Okay. So they had trouble making them all three. But now. Seems like they're making now. No one believes that he will take be able to take it private, but I think he's just someone who he so used to being doubted and that like when people doubt him, it really kind of steals his resolve and he really does sort of delight improving people wrong. You mentioned space, x and burning money being able to do that without the scrutiny of of being under a public company with that SpaceX does burn a lot of money, doesn't it? I mean, or at least went one of rocket explodes. Well, SpaceX is very different company, and I think and I think that's what's really important to stress is that because tesla is public, the world sees Ilan is the CEO of tesla, and there is kind of this perception. I think that still lingers that like space x, just kinda like his private little project or like it's like, you know, it's like it's his little side show that is absolutely not true. SpaceX is the company that musk founded by himself as soon as he got out of pay pal and then he got he meant. And then he got involved and tesla very early on as an investor. Took tesla over, but SpaceX is I love he lives in LA. SpaceX is in LA. It's sex has like enormously huge contracts with really important customers like NASA, the US military and like the world's leading satellite operator. So yes, I mean, when when a when a rocket blew up, there's insurance. So I mean, they, I don't know what their revenue is. They have paying customers and it is a very well run company and they are about to send American astronauts to international space station. So it's just it's a completely different company run completely differently. One big difference between tesla SpaceX is that tesla is making a consumer product, right? And right. You're not going to buy rugged. Yeah. And must you know grappled with the fact that his cars have been involved in wrecks and one of his favorite things to say is that you and driving is so dangerous and auto pilot is going to be so much safer. There's not a lot of data to prove that because there hasn't been a lot of. Data collected about the safety. There just aren't enough autopilot cars on the road to know. It seems, but do you have any thoughts about, you know how he's been dealing with the safety of his cars to your point? I mean, right rocket is not a consumer product and they don't really have to make that many of them. I mean, they make the rockets at their factory in Hawthorne, but we're not talking about thousands. We're talking about, like, you know, I don't even know what their run rate is, but they make thirty year or so. I mean, it's, you know, it's a big production facility, but I mean, just in terms of volume, you don't really need to make that many, whereas Tesla's now supposedly making five to six thousand model threes a week. But yeah, I mean cars are like, you know, they are highly regulated lethal devices that you know across that are responsible for, you know, killing people and accidents, and as you know, the regulations in Washington of wax and wane. I mean, there's been this big March towards making car safer with things like automatic emergency breaking, and you know, rear facing cameras. And more sensors inside the cabin to alert drivers to things like drowsiness, anelle autopilot or but other automakers call eight s? I mean, there's just a whole suite of kind of electronics coming into the vehicle in an effort to improve driver safety. I mean, I think tesla would say that their cars are are safe and getting safer all the time. It's really hard to compare apples to oranges though, in terms of will how you know how many cars on the road and how old are they? And in some ways, tests test cars are really safe like the crumple-zones and the fact that they don't have an engine in the front and the low center of gravity. I mean, but then you have to look at the driver behavior to any. I mean to point any tesla accident gets enormous scrutiny and people people die in car accidents in the United States every day, and you're not seeing headlines about other automakers. Where does he fall in the political spectrum? Is he Republican? I know he's worked with with Trump a lot z a more liberal eve libertarian. It seems like he's, he's clearly has some libertarian leaning to him. Yeah, I, I mean, I don't want to speak for him because that would be a good idea. But I think that he is. I think he is a sort of very savvy. I mean, he's a very savvy CEO and that he recognizes the way that politics are played the United States, and he believes very strongly and having a seat at the table. So for example, when Trump had him on his councils and he got all this flack Godley line, like, how could you be on Trump's council? He was sort of like, listen, I'm going to do the best that I can around, you know, immigration and around climate change. And then he was like, basically, crowd sourcing ideas for immigration reform on Twitter. And then the question was really sort of like, okay, well, what is his line in the sand here? And he, you know, I think really did try to keep the United States in the Paris climate accord. And when Trump pulled out that was, it was like I'm done and he left, but I think he'd like made a good faith effort to try to have some influence there. And it's like you either have a seat at the table or not like why not take a seat at the table. If you're if you're invited to it in terms of his political donations, he's donated to both sides of the house, but none. In huge numbers. I mean, if you look at like tesla and SpaceX in terms of their lobbying spending, it is like far it's like a fraction of what like GM or a Boeing spend. But like I mean there there's been some stuff lately about how he donated Kevin McCarthy. Okay. We'll Kevin McCarthy like represents the district that SpaceX is in, and I don't think that. I mean, I think he's just donated to both sides, but not in not in very high numbers. Right? And a lot of people thought when he joined that Trump council, but that meant that he was in league with Trumper that he's somehow supported Trump. I always saw different. I always thought so as he just believes that he can do just about anything. He just has a lot of self belief and so he thought he could go there and change Trump's mind if you could just sit down with the guy Chan's Trump's mind about the Paris accords and climate and to me that that ties in with this idea where I think he's, he seems to see himself as a hero doesn't even he went to the Thai. Soccer team was trapped in a cave. His first impulse was maybe I can save, you know, maybe I can send my engineers from the boring company to Thailand and get them out. When you know when he thinks about climate change and the future of earth he thinks will maybe that can help stop climate change by getting us all off of carbon fuels. Maybe I can build the rocket to Mars that will save human civilization. It sounds like delusions of grander, but it's not totally delusional because then then actually does this stuff, what's your, what's? What's your theory of what kind of guy he really is? Does he have Cape that puts on? Yeah, he's obviously he's obviously stretched. I would say, I think I think he's stretched a little thin, right? Like did he have to get Wade into the tie thing? I'm not really sure, but like and he got a lot of flack for that, but he was like he was in Email contact with people about like the design for the sub, and he was genuinely trying to help. And I mean, this is a guy who you know, he's forty seven. He's got five young boys. I mean, climate change is for Rochas and urgent and no one is really addressing it. Government them in the government has completely fallen down on the job the as rolling back regulations. I mean, you have all these accords that are sort of. You know, like no one is really tackling it in a sort of big way the way that he is. And I think that he just is like a man in a hurry because he sees, you know, he talks about things like ocean s s inefficacious and when like he unveiled tesla energy as kind of like division of tesla, like he stood in front of thousands of people in LA with a PowerPoint had like CO two emissions. Like I mean, he's very serious about climate change, and I think it frustrates him that other business leaders are not doing more and that like we're still in this holding pattern where you know we're waiting for like consumers to kind of lead the way. And so like if you look at the business is that he's made that some people see as crazy. Like I think he just is he's anxious to kind of move move the needle because ultimately vs are still just a fraction of the world's automotive fleet. And even though there are like tonnes of die, hard, tesla fans all around the world. I mean, the truth is that. Tesla just sold its two hundred thousand car in the United States cumulatively. Like in July. I mean, they haven't made that many cars. They haven't sold them any cars. They have legions of fans, but like compared to like a Ford or GM or Toyota. I mean, they're just still really, really small. And so, yeah, I mean, I think his ultimate vision is you've got tesla in your driveway, solar panels on your roof and a battery in your grudge, ties it all together and then but, but if earth doesn't work out, then we go to, you know, then we go to go to Mars to. It's like fixing earth is planning and like colonizing Mars, maybe the maybe the plan b. But yeah, I mean, this is someone you have to. I guess the thing to remember about Elon Musk is that this is someone who emigrated to the United States via Canada from South Africa at a very young age dropped out of Stanford and made his first millions. And I'm talking like almost like three hundred million dollars before he turned thirty. I mean that is that does something to your head in terms of what you are capable of? I mean, a lot of us when we were in our twenties, we're still like waitressing. And trying to figure out what we were going to do. He was already a millionaire. So then he was like, okay, like what next? Well, I guess I'll start rocket company. I mean, when you have that kind of wealth and success early on in life, like I think. Yeah, like it does. I mean why? Why not keep? Why not keep going? And I don't think he gives enough credit for being so visionary driven about the urgency that is climate change. There really aren't other CEO's that are stepping up to the plate in the way he is. Yeah. And I think that I think that that's that's why people are really drawn to him, you know? And I've been like events like tesla, customer events, like in the early days. I mean, now he doesn't really go to them, but you know, there's, there's the tesla Motors club in like twenty thirteen he spoke at it. It was just the sex small gathering like a Marriott hotel in Milpitas. And I mean they were like grown men who'd flown in from New Jersey and elsewhere, and they just stood stood at the microphone over like econo-. Just wanted to thank you for giving me hope again. I mean, there is a real serious affection for this guy because just because of his aspirants. I mean, I don't think that people in the United States, people have ceased to look at political figures. It's like it's all about sports or tech leaders and and just this whole idea that he is kind of like nerdy and a polished and speaks in this sort of cadence and language of engineers and physicists and makes all these references to science fiction and gamers. It's kind. Like revenge of the nerds. I mean, so so there is like a big affection for him from from that community as well. Yes, so ill in musk, the comic book hero trying to save the world, but it turns out the really hard job. Right in might be making it harder on himself with Twitter habits, but I really appreciate how you gave us the nuanced picture of a really polarizing person. I think it's it's too easy to write him off as a huckster cult leader or too easy to to worship him. This great tech hero. He's got some of both in dente hall. Thank you so much for joining us. Really appreciate your time. One final break and then don't goes my taps. Some of the best things we've seen on the web this week. Whether

"Uh if you're in the market for new car sorta on the high end thirty five thousand dollars or so and you don't need it like right away you could do worse than the tesla model three the catches demand for those cars is high supply is really low so low in fact that bloomberg's tom reynolds cited to figure out for himself how many muddle 3s tesla is making heads up hi thanks for having me why are you don't all this effort uh for the for the model three well this is tesla's first attempt to be a high volume massproduction automobile manufacturer you know like five hundred thousand cars a year or more and it's also the first electric car that might possibly reach those kinds of volumes so this is probably the most watched number in the automotive industry right now and stocks are trading on it people with reservations for their car they want to know when their numbers coming up and and the industry is waiting for bated breath to see what happens to tesla and your best guess is how many model 3s rather anura so our best guess as of right now is about seventy seven hundred and they're making about a thousand fifty two a week and there are hella many people out there waiting for their model three well last we heard there are almost half a million that's why hasn't been updating does numbers lately but there are half a million people waiting for this guy how are you tracking a production i thought this was fascinated we have two different data sets that were that were pulling here and they're both based on vehicle identification numbers are vins and this was a system that was started in the 1950s originally did track cars and prevent them from being stolen but now they're kinda used for recalls so we are able to electron equi king the us safety regulators to see how many vins that tesla has registered at any given time now that's kind of an imperfect number because it's it's it's a very forwardlooking they have they register and large batches before they actually start production on those matches and we're also using a data said that's based on on crowdsourcing and and what kind of continuing the data that started with on reddit and tesla motors club forums on where people whenever they saw one of these model 3s they're so.
