"You just need to understand the context of what's going on with exports versus domestic sales. If you're looking at those individually yes. The month over month is pretty much meaningless. But if you're combining and looking at wholesale that's sort of a disclaimer while not necessarily meaningless is just not as important because you're already capturing most of that batching effect by including expert in that total so i saw tun of hand waving away and he sort of comparisons to june today because of that quarterly batching. Which is totally fine. If you're looking at the china domestic sales but i saw people using it for wholesale sales to a lot. So i'm just worried that people are kind of overextending something that doesn't necessarily apply very much so for me. Yes if. I'm looking at retail sales compared to january and april. But if i'm looking at wholesale sales i'd prefer to compare july two jim while we are wrapping up with china probably also important to note that ilan did reply to a clean technica article today suggesting that tesla's production rate is near four hundred fifty thousand per year for gigi shanghai you on replied saying quote important to bear in mind. That production is as fast as the slowest part out of about ten thousand unique parts and a car and quote. Of course he's talked about this on the earnings call and elsewhere in the past but perhaps the reason that he's reiterating that here all right next up we've got updates on timing for both cyber shock and the model s. will start with the cyber truck. This happened this weekend but lost in the shuffle at the impact report yesterday but tesla has now changed the language on the cyber truck order page where previously it said. That production was expected to start late in twenty twenty one for the tri motor all wheel drive version. It now reads quote. You'll be able to complete your configuration as production nears in twenty twenty two and quote. So i don't think anyone should be surprised by that especially after you on musk's comments on the q two earnings call to that specific question and given the fact that there's only four and a half months now left in twenty twenty one eddie also find the wording that they used here to be pretty interesting. They say as production nears in twenty twenty two. That doesn't even necessarily mean production in two thousand twenty two now i'm sure that's what tesla's targeting that's what they hope but they do seem to be giving themselves a little bit of an out there with that word obviously we've got pretty limited information right now and will continue to keep an eye on things but i think at this point. I'd probably be a little bit more surprised if there is a delivery of a cyber truck in the first half of next year. Then if the first delivery were to come sometime after that are moving onto the model s. we'd previously talked about just keeping an eye on how communication is progressing therefore order holders as it relates to expected delivery dates. They've been shifting around quite a lot and it looks like today. A lot of that shifting has continued so many order holders on tesla motors club formed today reporting that they have updates to their delivery window and unfortunately a lot of them have reported that their delivery window has moved out all the way to february. So it's a little bit unclear on what's causing that there's talk of maybe it's the nineteen inch wheels. Maybe it's the white interior. Maybe it's carbon fibre..

First Berlin Production Equipment, New Largest Supercharger Location, Daimler Emissions

"Our here, and today we have a super charger network update, which is nice. Little throwback for those of you that have listened to the podcast for a long time I used to do those every day at the start of the podcast. We also have some news on Berlin paint a small little updates slash rumor. I would call it on Battery Day and the news on Daimler Nikola Motor as. Well. Tesla stock with another really strong day to day even though it was relatively quiet news wise finishing up seven point two percent to four hundred and forty nine dollars seventy six sense that compared to the Nasdaq up one point two percent we'll start off with these super charger news. This is coming from Brian Mac se on twitter, who is a long-time listener and I believe Patriot supporter of. The podcast who happen to come across a super charger network location under construction near Firebaugh California. As far as I can tell, this location had not yet been noticed. So upon Brian tweeting these out Tesla Motors Club Forum members did some digging on this and they were actually able to find that the permit for the site as well as planning documents for sort of a conglomerate travel center at. This location those documents disclosed that Tessa. We'll have fifty six spots for Tesla charging at this travel center. Assuming each of those spaces has a super charger associated with it. fifty-six chargers would put this as the largest superchargers location in North America and possibly in the world surpassing cattleman city in the United States at forty chargers and believe in China, there are a couple locations that have fifty chargers. So. Pretty exciting this location is between San Francisco and La driven miles. It's about two hundred and thirty miles from La and about one hundred and fifty from San Francisco. It's not clear if these will be all version three superchargers but I'd have to imagine that they would be and as far as other features go. It looks like about two thirds of them thirty eight of the fifty six. will be pull through hopefully accommodating the use of a trailer and making things a bit easier for the cyber truck and potentially also accommodating the semi of course, cincy unveil of the semi. We haven't heard much more about Tesla's mega charger plans. So hopefully, we get a bit of an update on that during battery debt. Right next today is an update on Gigabytes Lynn gigafactory underscore four on twitter. Has Been following. The gigafactory development closely looks like some equipment has started to arrive, and some of that equipment carries branding for Geico Tikey Shah? which is a paintshop solutions provider based in Milan Italy. There's also some signing there that is co branded between that company and desolate GEICO take show describes their approach by saying quote innovation is our weapon of choice were constantly increasing the technological possibilities in. Order to meet the needs of the most demanding customers in a highly competitive sector and quote they also seem to be heavily focused on sustainability and they're their paintshop operations. They have a project called the party's project, and they say quote with the Party's project launched in two thousand, five Geico Kotecki show was the world's first company to offer zero environmental impact paintshop reducing consumption by seventy percent and. So. Without really knowing much more about the company does he pretty good fit for Tesla we know Tesla has pretty big aspirations with the shop and gigabyte Lin Yuan talked about it many times and even setting Matt aside, it's good to start to see some production equipment on the grounds of Giga Berlian and though I haven't seen it yet. Maybe this gives us another milestone to compare the progress with Giga Shanghai from what I can. Tell, it looks like paintshop equipment started being put in place at Giga. Shanghai. In early to mid August of two thousand, nineteen with production of course, then starting about four months later. So if that's the case, if Berlin falls a similar time line that could potentially project out to start production and January probably best to keep expectations for later than that but I do think it's helpful to keep an eye on how those timelines compare all Right next up today is something that could end up being completely nothing but I thought it was at least interesting enough to share earlier today Fred Lammert over at electric tweeted out a couple of images of him holding a pretty significantly sized battery cell and Fred Ask if anyone has seen this battery cell before or you have some information about them, please reach out to him. A says also by the way, this new cell May. Or may not have been made by Tesla I don't really have much speculation to add this. A couple of people on twitter were saying that it does look like a tablets design which we've talked about and past episodes. But really just pointing out to say could be something to keep an eye out for the next couple of days if electric is able to you dig up a little bit more information on whatever this ends up being. Last couple of pieces of news here. Today I on Daimler Daimler has reached a settlement with the US government to pay one and a half billion dollars and settlements and penalties to the US and California State to resolve allegations of Daimler using emissions test cheating software to conceal the actual emissions from vehicles even with the settlement, and despite the fact that engineers at the EPA found software designed to cheat the emissions tests. Damore denies wrongdoing saying quote as stated in the consent degrees the. Class Action Settlement the company denies the authorities allegations as well as the class action plaintiffs claims and does not admit any liability to the United States. California plaintiffs or otherwise and quote. So I don't know kind of disappointing to see a settlement of that nature that doesn't require the admission of fault with such seemingly strong evidence against Daimler right lasting today is a quick update on Nikola Motors. It sounds like from the comments yesterday that most of you preferred that I don't do significantly. Deep dive on this budget stick to the high level updates, which I'm totally fine with if Trevor Milton wanted to come back on the PODCAST, I would probably do that. Otherwise, we'll stick with these updates anyway today the Wall Street Journal and other outlets are reporting that the Justice Department has started to also investigate Nikola Motors due to the allegations that they had misled investors by making exaggerated claims about their technology I know that sounds similar to

"Payment data the same way it would through the APP all right. Let's talk a little bit about aim. Nother Senate proposal. What's this one about Justin Well Tom? Us Senators Cory Booker and Jeff. Merkley proposed the ethical use of artificial intelligence act Wednesday. That would stop the use of facial recognition without a warrant by federal agencies government employees and law enforcement until eight thirteen member congressional commission can recommend guidelines and place limits on the use of the technology. Yeah this is. This is something that shouldn't surprise people with all the furor over facial recognition but even if it is a political play it does seem to me to be a fairly reasonable writing of it saying you know what. Let's just put a pause on federal use until we figure this out. Let's set up commission. We'll have different people be able to nominate people for the congressional commissions that we try to get a lot of different viewpoints on this and then figure out what the rules of the road should be. One of the things people are taking issue with is they did carve out an exception in this proposal for USA facial recognition with a warrant. They're saying if you have a warranties facial recognition than you can so that cuts out on it being used for for Leeds. Unless you're really serious you have to go to a judge and get a warrant some people say. Yeah but it's still not good enough even for that. Depends on where he said. Yeah obviously there is a lot of discussion and I'm glad that this is happening out in the open so as much as my knee jerk reaction to something like this is to say. Wait a minute. Something's in the news a please do not stand between this story and senators who want airtime as they will trample you but I do think there is a good public conversation that needs to be had about this and even if it's ultimately ineffectual at least it is something that we're bringing up here and folks who are listening can talk to with their friends and family. Yeah and I guess the question at this point is I mean. Where does it go? It doesn't sound as you said. Tom Fairly measured no no huge red flags but does go anywhere. Yeah what does the commission come up with? Does that proposal go forward? Part of the reason you put a pause on it though is there will be pressure from law enforcement and other agencies to want to use it. So that'll keep it going forward what they decide if this bill even gets approved which it may not as a whole different thing. Well as we reported on Wednesday's show Mobile World Congress was canceled because the G. S. A. Founded impossible to put the show on despite health officials not requiring to actually be cancelled. Most big names had pulled out already leaving smaller companies without anything for the money that they spent in preparation and without the chance to make contacts and build awareness for their products by a lot of people go to trade shows. In addition many companies are facing other problems related to the Chinese Corona virus which has shut down factories in China. Meaning parts for their products are also delayed. Firms of all sizes are looking for alternate ways to make announcements and build relationships including more smaller trips and meetings and independent press conferences. Now I guess the question is now even though the GSA says it will hold the show next year. We'll some companies figure. We got through it. Okay maybe we don't need to go. Yeah that's the dangerous thing right as a lot of people think they have to go to something until they don't go and then realize wait a minute. I mean as a CEO veteran. I've never been to WNYC. But I can tell you I mean a lot of work does not get done it Ed. Various trade shows. I'M GONNA go ahead and guess that a lot of trade shows are that way. Schmoozing isn't always just of time. There is a lot of business being done but I bet a lot of companies who think we have to be there? We'll figure well are alternate solutions. Ended up being more fruitful for us in the end. Yeah I don't think the the issue is necessarily them not going but spending the kind of money that they would normally do too big the bid to be the big fish at a conference like that does potentially take a hit when you go without it and everything's kind of because I do agree with Sarah that a lot of what you get out of here is just having all the players in one space where you can trade information build relationships or make deals but maybe buying that gigantic booth Different story maybe taking everybody out for those a big expensive A curated experiences. Maybe not so necessarily and it's also hard on the smaller companies with a lot of the big companies pulling out before they even cancelled it. It was going to be more difficult for the smaller companies. Who were still going to go to to find the kind of eyeballs and years that they would want but if they can get it from the press if they could make some deals with other small companies. It could have been worthwhile now. They're going to have to figure out okay. Can we just spend a lot more money? Probably flying around two meetings in Europe and North America in China to to get our message out there and take meetings. It doesn't have the efficiency of just walking around in a conference and being able to meet up with people that maybe you wouldn't even met otherwise and and striking deals that. That's what the value of a conferences is those serendipitous things and you can't really replace those whether it's worth that time and expense though we will now have an AB test for attendees mobile regards to figure that out the US filed a superseding indictment against Wa wa and it's CFO among zoo among Guangzhou of courses in Vancouver under house arrest while she awaits extradition decision by the Canadian courts But this supersedes previous indictments it charges wall way multiple versions of always business and monk Longzhu with conspiring to violate the racketeer influenced and corrupt organizations. Act Rico Act and conspiring to steal trade secrets. It also contains new allegations regarding violations of sanctions against North Korea. And Iran. Those were some of the original indictments against Mungu among the allegations are using confidentiality agreements with US companies to obtain things like router source code in other words. You strike a deal say yes. We'll keep this confidential. You look at the router source code and then you misappropriate that And put it in your own property without permission. The indictment lists other concrete examples like distributing confidential slide decks to the engineers. You meet with a company under a confidentiality agreement. Nda you're not supposed to take that slide deck can pass it around. The rest of the company will always accused of doing that There's another example of someone at a trade show in Chicago with a badge that spelled y way backwards as their name being caught after hours opening up routers from the competition and taking pictures of the interior other charges involved just lying to federal investigators hiding employment status saying no. We're not employee away when they actually are I mean this has to go to trial these accusations. They haven't been proved But this is a different kettle of fish than the back door accusations because we can see exactly what they're accusing. We can see evidence and it's going to be going to court. There's enough here to make me think like this is just an actual case that the US wants to file because they've discovered wrongdoing. But just in there is also a political aspect of this with the China trade deals going without a doubt and real quick. Just so everybody understands when you hear the term Rico if it sounds familiar it's because this is the tool that law enforcement often uses for organized crime drug dealers or mafiose. If you can't catch him on the dealing you catch him on the racketeering well yeah and you can prove by way of actions that spider outside of the actual person that you are looking to bring charges against you can use those other crimes to charge the central person. But you're right Tom. This is obviously in the large very complicated very personal at times negotiation of this trade deal we already have a phase one that has done between the Chinese government and the United States government but phase. Two which is often thought to be the far more trickier one involves at the top line. Trade secrets which China has been accused by many many companies of violating largely because America goes to China to manufacture so many products. But this is something that is even beyond that they are not alleging that a while way was taking advantage of Chinese side manufacturing. They're saying that even beyond that these were crimes that were being committed on American soil. That that they are coming back against them for and we're not going to see except for. Maybe IF CANADA GREECE TO EXTRADITE WE'RE NOT GONNA see most wise officials brought into the US for this What I'm curious about is whether this can or will be used in the negotiations if they ended up dropping these charges in exchange for a trade deal. Or if this is just a solid thing to say. Look we're going to prosecute this no matter what you WanNa stop doing this in the future. If you WANNA get a trade deal from us. Yeah I think part of me says this is them saying look we're GONNA start enforcing the rules. And so we can create new rules going forward so this is easier. And maybe we can have an intermediary phase where we believe. These things are happening. And you're going to have to actually respond to us or this is going to be the thing that happens. But we're not. I mean who knows whether or not they wipe away this sin when they start creating a new a new set of rules. So we'll definitely want to keep an eye on you know Tom last week. We talked about the Jalopy Nick Report. That a man name. Alec brought bought a used Tesla that he thought had enhanced autopilot and full self driving features only to find out that removed those features during an audit that showed he had not paid for the package which of course he hadn't the original owner had that led to questions about whether Tesla's trying was tying packages to the original owner. Well Monday Alex. Posted on Tesla Motor Club Dot com. That everything is back to normal. He has also offered act as a go-between with Tesla's experienced team for others who might have the same issue. Tesla does these audits in order to correct for people who have been given the package without paying by mistake which has happened or war. Who Modified to get the package without paying which has also happened. Tesla has not made a public statement on the issue or clarified its policy on the transfer of packages in used cars. When I saw the headline that he got his autopilot back. I'm like Oh thank. Goodness Tesla is admitting this was a mistake. And they're giving it back to them. Once I read in that it was just Alex saying hey I got it back. I have the secret phone number. If anybody wants it and Tesla's not saying anything in public. I got less happy about the outcome of this because I still believe what happened is Tesla is trying to stop a mistakes that they have made and militias actors. Who are modifying without permission from getting these packages and aren't accounting for the fact that used car sales happen because they haven't happened historically a lot with Tesla and they just caught out on this. Why they're not coming out. And saying that is evidence of disorganization. I think. Yeah I mean the Tesla already got their money from the original owner so I can't see a scenario where the company says. Nah It just going to have to be original owner and if you pay for something that you didn't pay extra for the package even though we already got the money we want it twice and you won't get it otherwise we'll take it out of your car. That would be like you know if accompanied said Sarah can't have because she didn't get like the cool packing used car because I bought a used car. I mean I know that you know software is not the same as you know an AC unit. But it's the same idea I think has probably they're trying to figure out. Okay how do we continue to make sure that we're not giving people software packages that they didn't pay for and continue to deal with the fact that people play around with systems to try to get stuff for free? You'RE NOT GONNA be able to have much control over that US car market. You've got your money. The the one thing that they do need to clarify on this. Is that the. The price of that car is going to be determined by the features. And so if they're going to say no no. No no we are doing this as a service and you pay for it each time that there is a new owner then that car is going to sell different as a used car then it would be without it so there is a value for. Tesla at a certain point if they do want to go to a no every new user has to pay the pay the toll on this they. They need to clarify going forward. But this to me says without saying that no once it's turned on its turned on sell us carper more because of it. I'm imagining a PR manager. Talking to someone saying okay but what's our policy. What can I tell people when I and they're like you can't tell them anything? We don't have a policy. We really should create meeting four. Pm Everybody. Scientists at Switzerland's F pl have developed three d printer that can build an entire object at once in seconds rather than building it layer by layer which obviously takes a lot longer than that. The printer shines a laser on a liquid photosensitive Photosensitive resin either biofuel or liquid plastic GEL. Sorry that's my fault Bio Gel. I Guess Gel infused Naggus not from multiple angles and then an algorithm guides the laser to create a precise version of three D. MODEL. It can make two centimeter structures at eighty micrometer. Precisions right now..

That would be like you know if accompanied said Sarah can't have because she didn't get like the cool package used car. Because I bought a used car..
