"Welcome in to the latest edition of ESPN FC, I'm Dan Thomastrom by Casey Keller, Shaka Hislop and Stevie Nichol will start today's show with the final round of matches in the Bundesliga and it really couldn't get more dramatic than it turned out to be. Borussia Dortmund in action against Mainz. For Dortmund it was simple, if they won the game they were champions, however they could only manage a 2 -2 draw. Bayern Munich just had to be cloned then to win. These games were going on at the same time, they were 1 -0 up but then they conceded a penalty 1 -1, it looked like Bayern were going to blow it and despite Borussia Dortmund losing they were still going to win it but then Moussialis got a brilliant goal in the 89th minute to give Bayern Munich the win and those precious points that see them win the Bundesliga, one goal difference. Artur Intat was in Dortmund for this game and he spoke to Edin Terzic after the result. Edin, commiserations, just on a human level, difficult to watch what you and your players have had to go through, how can you sum it up? It's difficult to find the right words, we feel empty because we knew about the chance, we can feel the energy within the stadium, within the city and we all wanted it so hard and in the end it was, we've been so close, it was one goal that was missing at the end, it was one goal in the other stadium that was missing and before the game we knew that we are 90 minutes away to lift the trophy and we tried everything to prepare ourselves for a good game and then you can see. So this is the game that we fell in love with when we were kids and sometimes it feels hard, sometimes it's tough to miss a penalty, to concede two early goals and then all of a sudden everything feels so heavy but in the end you can feel it that we tried our best and unfortunately it wasn't enough and before the game we've been 90 minutes away and now again we are 34 matchdays away to try it again and tomorrow we're going to start a new try. Do you think it was the most human emotion of realising, I guess, what was in front of you that ultimately kicked in? Yes, it's difficult to answer that kind of question because nobody knows. I had the feeling that we had a good start, we were very aggressive, we were under control but then we conceded the goal on the set -piece, we missed our chances, we missed our opportunity and then, of course, if you're too nulled down we lost a bit of our patience to prepare our attacks but it's now impossible for me to find the right analysis after what happened. We just know that we are really, really sad about that we couldn't give back to the crowd what they deserved but we can promise that we're going to start again from tomorrow on. Just finally, I had a text from a Dortmund fan today who just wanted to thank you for what you've given him and his fellow fans here today and we saw that with the way that they received you. Will you take any consolation out of what you, plural, as a trainer team, have done here in building that connection back to the fans because it felt like something still this season? Yeah, we said it from day one that if we want to compete and if we want to be successful it's not enough to have 11 players or 26 players in the squad, it's not enough to have 700 or 1 ,000 employees, we need everybody, we need everybody to stay positive, we need everybody to believe, we need everybody to lift themselves up even if it's tough. As I mentioned, it feels very unfair today because we've been through so many setbacks this season but again this is a test and again they're going to test us and they're going to try to see how much we can take and so we have to lift ourselves up, we have to get the energy back and then we're going to try a new attempt from the beginning of July and then we have to improve but we've been on a really great way the recent months with a good year, 2023, we are on a good way but unfortunately today without a happy end so we have to fight for the next season and hopefully next season we're going to have a happy end. Every time I've had you here, mate, it's been a pleasure, thank you, we will see you next season, Edin Terzic, all the best, thank you. Honest and frank interview there from Edin Terzic after the game, let's get some more reaction now, let's welcome in shall we, Derek Wray who was calling the Bayern Munich game and of course as we saw Archer in touch at Dortmund pitch side for us, Archer I've got to start with you, what on earth would it be like to be there? So I've just watched back all the highlights that you've shown there in the interview, mate, I'm exhausted, I'm absolutely exhausted emotionally and I had no horse in this race, I couldn't sleep last night alone at the prospect of what today was going to be and did it deliver? I mean there's words that I wanted to say there that I can't say on television but it's incredible, from a Bayern perspective to have somehow ended up with this title but from the Dortmund perspective, I've not seen people on the floor literally and emotionally as they were in Dortmund, like I saw a guy outside the stadium selling t -shirts with Dortmund German champions 2023 before the game, so maybe that was the start of where things would got a little bit too confident but look, ultimately I think their biggest strength turned into their weakness today which is that emotionality that they have under Edin Terzic because they just felt too much what it was going to mean to win and you saw all those chances that they had and I think they oversaw it and it's very sad from a Borussia Dortmund perspective to have come that close for someone like Marco Reus, that poor guy, how much pain can one human being take in a career missing out on Germany's World Cup success in 2014 because of injury? The only World Cup he then goes and plays at was in 2018 when Germany were at their worst with Borussia Dortmund, it's painful memory after painful memory whether it's Champions League final never winning a Bundesliga title and you think it's here for you Marco but no so yeah desolate in Dortmund and

"Making instead of And there will be pressure on him from day one of next season to be getting this right, but he'll benefit from having a summer to sort things out. But it is a prerequisite. If you're a coach of Bayern Munich, you stand under huge amounts of pressure to win every game, because if you draw or lose, that's not good enough. Do you think this would have turned out differently, Casey, if they had kept Nagelsmann? Potentially. I understand if you're not happy with your manager, and obviously they weren't with Nagelsmann for more than just results. There's obviously other things that were going on there. And I think they really felt that the right guy was available at this time, and let's pull the trigger. Now if that right guy becomes the right guy or not, we're going to have to find out over time. But to Archie's point, it's Bayern Munich. There's an expectation that you're going to win, and we've seen it for so many years where Bayern Munich will have a little bit of a slip up, but the squad, as other squads get a little bit injured, a little bit tired, their squad depth and quality, then at the end of the season, they just win every game and they come away with the trophies. Well, something's not right in that squad, and it wasn't right with Nagelsmann, and it's clearly not right with Tuchel. So the pressure is obviously coming on Salahamnich. It's coming on Oliver Kahn, because you're not just the manager at Bayern Munich. You're juggling a lot of politics. You're juggling a lot of voices above you that have say in the locker room, and how you're able to manage those politics is as much of a part of being the Bayern Munich manager as actually just picking the team, and we'll see if the egos are in place to be able to do that from Tuchel. Clearly Nagelsmann wasn't. We knew that Hansi Flick wanted to get out of that because he didn't have the control that he felt that he deserved. Even Joep Heinkes, who, oh, we're retiring Joep, and Joep's like, I didn't plan on retiring, and we're gonna retire you as this, you know, Bayern legend, and he's like, no, I'm a Gladbach guy. So there is some politics at Bayern that you have to deal with that is different. I think there's one thing we can say about the Nagelsmann thing. Had he stayed, it wouldn't have been any worse. It couldn't get any worse because when he left, they were still in all these competitions, and one by one they've fallen by the wayside. So the only way is up if Nagelsmann had stayed. That's the only thing you can say, and Thomas Tuchel, there's no question, Thomas Tuchel looks absolutely, there's question marks about him, and as Hansi said, he's been saying some strange things. Last week, he absolutely threw the players under the boss. It was their fault. He took no responsibility whatsoever, and as he's telling us this week in the press conference yesterday, he's tried to tell everybody, I take full responsibility. I mean, when players like a manager to be consistent in everything they do, everything they do, and if there's one thing he's been consistent that he keeps chopping and changing what he says, and he hasn't been able to win games of football. Pretty clear. Well, Archie will not have to deal with him whatever happens after the game tomorrow, because as we mentioned, he's going to be at the Borussia Dortmund game, hopefully talking to Edin Terzic afterwards, but most importantly, Archie, have you got a new jacket picked out? Oh yes, I do. There's something coming tomorrow. I might have to sneak into the yellow wall on my way into the pitch. So, yeah, it's not blue. I can say that much. Is it two, Archie's on the bus? You're not driving the bus, are you, Archie? He's not driving the bus. We very much look forward to see what he's wearing tomorrow, and if you would like to see two, Casey Alley, myself and Archie will be on the coverage for this double header. "I don't think they're really going to be tested an awful lot. And no question, Dortmund will come out of the blocks big time. And going forward, absolutely, they are flying. And it's just going to be too much, regardless of how bad they are defensively against this main side. I don't even think it's going to be close. This could be done and dusted after 30 minutes. The crowd could be all in after 30 minutes because Borussia are going to get after them. Well, that's what we saw the other day. I mean, unfortunately, when you're calling a match with your old club and your old club is down 4 -0 after 32 minutes, where Dortmund just started the game on fire and Gladbach had no answer. And to Stevie's point, I fully expect the same thing. Now, granted, second half, they took their foot off the gas, conceded a couple goals. They could have even conceded another to make it interesting. But I just think they're way too strong offensively against a main side that three, four weeks ago, they'd won a game, then they lost a game, which kind of pretty much kicked them out of any chance of qualifying for Europe. And vacation started a few weeks ago. Actually, you've been at the Dortmund games many times this season. You've seen the ups, you've seen the downs, you've talked to this up. I just don't see it. How concentrated Edin Terzic was in his press conference today or on Thursday even, and how he was trying not to get ahead of himself at any point, not talking about any maybes. He got a little bit prickly when asked about the prospect of the last time that Dortmund had gone a while without winning the Bundesliga and then won it. Kevin Grosskreutz famously shaved his head on the day and that question was like, no, no, I've just said, I'm talking about the things that we control and we have not achieved anything yet, but we have put ourselves in a very good position to do that. And that's what we need to remember. It is an incredible achievement if they do go on and win it, because let's not forget, they were nine points behind Bayern. And it was actually the same situation a few years ago, where Dortmund gave a nine point lead and Bayern caught them. So look, there's so many factors to it. The fact is, Edin Terzic was a Dortmund fan growing up. He was there watching them in the 2012 DFB Cup final and has gone on to be a coach of the club and someone who really understands the politics of it, the element with Sebastien Haller as well. Let's not forget this guy missed the first half of the season because he needed testicular cancer treatment, has come back on the pitch and has been superb for them. And yeah, I mean, everything falls below that, of course. But I do look at the way that Edin Terzic has rebuilt players' form, like Emre Can, Julian Brandt, Donnie L. Marlin, Karim Adeyemi. The list goes on. It's a stunning piece of management. And the fact is, in the second half of the season in the Bundesliga, they've only lost to Bayern. And we think about the slip -ups, but if there aren't any slip -ups, then they're winning every game. The problems for Dortmund in the first half of the season. And the fact is, Kay, as I've said a few times, I didn't expect them to get Champions League in January. That's how bad they were. And the jump that they've made is, yeah, mind -blowing. It's been phenomenal. But if that's Edin Terzic that we're talking about, let's focus on Thomas Tuchel as well. You've talked, Archie, about how it's going to be right at the very top where it looks as though some heads will roll if it turns out in the worst case scenario for Bayern Munich. How about Thomas Tuchel? Is his job safe? I think it is ultimately safe. For now, I think that it's clear that the gamble was bringing him in, was making the change with Julian Nagelsmann. And Bayern were at the same time too busy looking elsewhere about, hang on, what if this other club gets Thomas Tuchel as opposed to staying in their lane? And Thomas Tuchel has also looked pretty erratic, I think. Some of the things he said with, for example, Thomas Müller or Sadio Mane, saying that he was the first defender of Sadio Mane after the incident where he punched Leroy Sane in the face after the defeat to Manchester City. And we've barely seen Sadio Mane on the pitch since then. I think about how he spoke about the first leg of the Manchester City game as well, how he had fallen in love with this team with a shock. And it's a complicated relationship if he's still in love with them, because I tell you what, he has been laying them out. And last weekend after the game against RB Leipzig, he said that the players had taken the decision to roll the dice with the decisions they were

"Are you looking for the Bundesliga match previews? It appeared for a brief moment that Julian nagelsmann, the coach of Bayern Munich, may be fired. Even now, weeks later, Byron is only one point behind union Berlin. Should union lose again on match day 12, Byron or perhaps SC Freiburg may take the top spot. In a fantastic Bundesliga match week, two gains include clubs from the Champions League. Below is our Bundesliga match preview for match day 12. Leipzig versus Leverkusen, last weekend, Leipzig finished to three gold comeback, and they'll be hoping to start off stronger this time. The status of Leverkusen striker Patrick schick's availability due to injury is unknown given how the season has gone for him. The away team won both matches last year, although lately there haven't been many goals in this matchup. Only one of the previous 6 matches resulted in more than two goals being scored. Three of those 6 contests have ended in one to one ties. Both teams defenses are porous and they have already given up more than one goal per game in the Bundesliga. So anticipate opportunities for both teams. Following a three goal comeback last weekend, Leipzig will look to improve upon that performance this time around. Patrick schick, a striker for Leverkusen, has had a difficult season, and it's uncertain whether an injury would prevent him from playing. The away team won both meetings last season, but lately, this match has been surprisingly low scoring. Only one of the last 6 games has ended with more than two goals. In three of those 6, a one to one draw was the result. Both sides have weak defenses and have given up far more goals than one goal per game in the Bundesliga thus far. Expect chances for both teams as a result. Bayern versus Mainz Bayern Munich has won four straight games in all competitions going into their Champions League showdown against Barcelona on Wednesday. After a season that got off to an unexpectedly sluggish start, Julian nagelsmann has turned things around. The Bundesliga standings currently see the ten time reigning champions only one point behind union Berlin. When Byron hosts minds on Saturday, they'll strive to pass them, you shouldn't take mine slightly they had three straight victories in all competitions after defeating FC colon 5 to zero last Friday. In addition, mines has triumphed over Bayern Munich in the previous two seasons. However, both of those victories were at home, and winning in Munich is another matter. Mines has an engaged in that since 2016, for the Bavarians on Saturday, Thomas Müller should return, but Eric maxim tuple noting has filled in superbly. Jamal musala and shubel Maori have both scored in Byron's last two games Byron has also scored two goals or more in each of their last 7 games Dortmund versus eintracht Frankfurt Frankfurt will, at least temporarily, rely on their offensive skill to score goals between now and the mid month World Cup break. Class there is not overly concerned with possession compared to some managers, but Frankfurt is a real threat in transition and Dortmund will have to be wary when the ball changes hands. They will be taken against one of Europe's top teens on the counterattack after all. BVB also pack a punch and attack as they demonstrated in that 5 to zero thrashing of Stuttgart last weekend. In truth, terzic side has not always clicked when going forward this term, and they rank only 8th for goals scored. Interestingly, though, Dortmund is outperforming Frankfurt unexpected goals, a measure of chance quality. Rather than betting the money line, we think the best choice for this weekend's clash at the Deutsche Bank park lies in the goals market more than 3.5 goals have been scored in each of Frankfurt's past two games and three of Dorman's last four games as well. Above our Bundesliga match previews we hope you will have a great time watching football also, don't forget to visit.
