Pro-Trump mob storms the US Capitol, touting 'Stop the Steal'
"So we walked through how we got here. But it doesn't quite do justice to that queasy feeling you got when you saw people marching through the halls of congress and breaking down doors when you saw crowds of people cheerfully waving their flags from the capitol balcony. So i wanna bring. Abc's chief white house correspondent. Jonathan karl and abc senior. National correspondent. Terry moran terry what did a day like. This mean for the united states of america. What do you take away from it. A dark day for the country and i think most people feel that way. This is one of those days that that that will remember and that will be remembered. I if it fades into the mist of history. I'll be surprised because it is something that's never happened this this mob. What does it mean it means. We got through this election. By the skin of our teeth they failed to attempt to obstruct the congress. This failed insurrection. Only underscores how crucial the task before us is for our republic. Joe biden one. Absolutely no doubt about that. But if we're not for the person of mike pence and mitch mcconnell maybe in a couple of other people you know. This mob might have represented the end of the democracy. That's what they wanted. They wanted to stop the certification counting of electoral votes certified by fifty states and give the election to their guy donald trump. Nobody knows what the hell is going on. There's never been anything like this. We will not let them. Silence your voices. we're not gonna let it happen one thing. I was struck by the chance. Fight for trump fight for trump not fight for america. This is a movement in our country and it reached a terrible bloody apex at the cap. Very jonathan karl. I mean you were keeping track of of not just congress not just washington but like inside. The white house has a switch flipped in washington when it comes to how people see the president and his his mission here. My sense is that we are looking at the end of the trump era. All i can say as count me out. Enough is enough of tried to be helpful. I think you saw a moment here. Where donald trump after a string of losses that led to this day loss on november third the losses in in georgia and the senate races in good conscious object to the certification of these electors not to mention the override of of of the veto. That happened On on new year's day You know the president has has seen a a series of things that haven't happened throughout his presidency. Which is losses at the hands of republicans. If you vote to overturn these elections. Wouldn't it be the opposite of what states rights. Republicans have always advocated for them. This would do m- the electoral college forever. And there were certainly a lot of speculation. i think we we had spoken about the possibility of donald trump going back to mar-a-lago and mounting a comeback or at least becoming a kingmaker in the republican party. I after yesterday to those who wreaked havoc in our capital. Today you did not win. Violence never wins. Freedom wins and this is still the people's house. I don't really think donald trump As republican kingmaker is is a likely scenario after after january. Six or after january twentieth. Does it go beyond that jump. Because you know you heard terry talking about mitch. Mcconnell in even mike pence these forces that were kind of constraining president trump. But how far could that go. I mean what kind of constraints could we see. On president trump going forward. It turned out that it was not his orders that got the national guard into washington. Dc you've got people resigning out from under him overnight. Essentially saying were sickened by all this. And now we're even giving talk about like the twenty fifth amendment. Is that a serious possibility. I there is We we have confirmed. There have been members of the cabinet. Who have had conversations about the twenty fifth amendment that would be effectively removing the president because he is mentally incompetent mentally unable to do the job. those conversations are happening and they're happening not just among the cabinet where it's relevant but also among The president's allies some of the president's allies on capitol hill But that's a. That's a really steep climb. That is an extraordinary thing. You would need in a vice. President can submit a declaration to congressional leaders saying the president is unfit for the job. The president now can contest that and if the vice president and cabinet persist that would lead to a vote in congress but that has never happened before under circumstances such as these now. That's a real long shot. But it just gives you a sense of where we're at and how how worried people very close to donald trump are that those conversations are in fact happening. I'm sure that there are responsible members of the cabinet. Who right now are thinking about. What are their obligations under the oath that they took. And they're not thinking about those things they should be dairy whose complicit in what we just saw i mean you know. I think that's the question that it's going to be weighing on a lot of people going forward here is. Is it enough to say. I condemn violence. But i do believe this. Election was a sham with without any evidence whatsoever like what are the legacies of essentially everyone else in washington stemming out of these events well i think as senator ben sasse republicans nebraska put. It lies have consequences. America isn't hatfields and mccoys. Blood feud forever. america's union. There are a lot of reasons to vote for donald trump. There are lots of reasons to vote against joe biden or against hillary clinton but to tell the american people lies That the election was stolen by some combination of software companies Hugo chavez out of the grave and i don't know the bigfoot that has consequences and to stir it up and drive people to the point of you're telling people they're stealing your country from you. They're stealing your country. They're going to take your guns and they're gonna. They're gonna slaughter babies and kidnap them and put them in a file rings and all the rest of it to wind people up like that. What do you think is going to happen seriously. Especially under the leadership of donald trump. Who has a gift for bloody language as a gift for stirring people up. But we're going to try and give our republicans the weak ones because strong winds. Don't need any of our help. We're going to try and give them the kind of pride and boldness that they need to take back our country he's in march to the capitol and he said show you aren't gonna win by weakness it takes strength. Be strong up there. You know that whole rhetoric of of brutishness in violence and the fist is is the real power anybody who went along with that and plenty. Did the american people may very well judge you to be complicit but i would just say. I'm not as sanguine as john about this is all over. You know these kinds of movements sometimes take fuel from an event like this a lot of republicans. Now have a taste for this kind of this kind of politics. Look what happened in the house. Some of the people who breach the capital today we're not trump supporters. They were masquerading as trump supporters. And in fact were members of the violet. Terrorist group antifa more than half of house. Republicans voted to nullify the election after after the mob attacked the capital. That tells you that. I think this is a long way from being dead.

He also said that they have a mandate for action and what I noticed in this he was focusing on the work, he says. Already doing. He was starting to already project that he's the president elect. "Of mail in ballots to didn't And that was his Justin, Democrat States was just in Pennsylvania and Michigan and Wisconsin. And why is it that it's always the Democrat jurisdictions in the cities like Philadelphia? That take forever and ever. Well working in Milwaukee. Well, we're still counting. We're still can't. Well, why were you the last idiots at the end of the line that they're still counting votes when the rest of the country has long since done counting what we had mail in belts while we all had mail in ballots way had more of them than before. Everybody had more of them than before. But everybody else has done counting votes. What's the matter with you people? The rhetorical question. There's lots and lots wrong with you people. Man. Oh, man. Oh, man. They They're in charge of governments, and they want to be in charge of everything. It's quite remarkable. Alright, let's get back to some more audio off our media crooks, the media they want to do away with the electoral college. Terry Moran, a lickspittle Democrat at ABC, Fake News. Now he wants to do away with the electoral college because it was where they haven't even counted. We don't even know what the Electoral College has decided. We don't know what the popular vote is, or was or will be. Because the Democrats are still moving the deck chairs around here and on already Terry Moran at ABC News because Hillary lost the electoral college, lest the Democrats the electoral College creates fairness on the left is anti fairness. They're pro rifle butt to the teeth. That's that's what they're in seizing power. That's that's all there. And I'm watching this and listening to what the media people are saying. It's an absolute disgrace. Casey Hunt of NBC fake news did Gone, said Gosh, this isn't what any of us expected. That's because you listen to each other, and you've got a circle fast of dishonest people and dumb people, and you feed off of one another. And so you're wrong about everything at the dinner table, you know, driving in traffic standing alone by yourself in your garage. With the motor running and the door closed. You're wrong about everything that's not really necessary. Let's go, Teo done with Casey Hunt. She is. I know what our news media is just garbage. Speaking of garbage. Let's go to Joe Scarborough. Remember when Joe Scarborough's show was taken off the air? Had a radio show with the woman he was just cheating on his wife with the inflatable flotation device at that time. Mekka, daughter of failed Brzezinski and dignified and she has partially inflated boat can be used in case emergency is flotation device and Joe's third wife. And there is sitting there. They did some cable fingers. Excuse me Internet streaming thing last night, and nobody cares what they have to say. But Joe Scarborough, they had already a show for a while. And it was no awful that it was cancelled in a matter of a couple of months, and Joe Scarborough came out and said, Oh, yeah, we're no, it's not canceled. He lied. They said. We're just retooling it. He lied. We're going to come back, and it's going to be three hours instead of two hours. He lied on. We're going to be on hundreds of stations. He lied. He lied. He made up about eight different lives on there. Just a new Everything was a lie, and he and he lied about it the whole time. Which is why NBC News pays the money because he is now a professional liar. It's it's a profession. For a lot of people on the left. Conservatives don't pay people to live Conservatives pay people to tell the truth. Democrats hire people and pay the millions of dollars to lie every time they move their lips. It's an amazing industry they've set up for themselves. And of course that creates a beep magnet for people who lie about everything all the time. Naturally, as you might expect. All right. So here's more Yarborough. I was watching these dimwits this morning on M s DNC and they're very upset, just cover and he's got really Geest along with them, Willie guys down there and they're sitting there being dutiful Democrats hating Trump, and they're very angry and bitter and They looked like they might have been medicated a little bit. At least Joe and he's got blond hair. He used to have dark hair, and then it started turning grade. Now. Suddenly, he's a high school cheerleader blonde is going to get some implants like Like the woman sitting next to him, too. And here's Joe Scarborough and really guys they can't know. Not again. This was a bipartisan failure. A cz well is a public polling failure. But once again once again, Poles on the entire political world in Washington, D C and New York totally missed the scale. Throw the Democrats underperformance last night. It's more stunning than it was in 2016 when some of the polls were wrong, because we've heard again and again again from these pollsters that they recalibrated that they learned from 2016 times closer to what's right. Yes. When you hang out with liars, and they lied all the time, And when they're trying to get it right, they get it wrong anyway, And you continued to believe what they say year after year. That means you're a moron, Moro and moron That means here that you're an idiot that you that you have put your faith in your trust in people who are not deserving of your faith and your trust, And the problem is that it's you. I have seen the enemy and it is them. They are the ones And bill goods more stunning. It's more Senate's a total failure of the polling and all the on the insulting the polls that Polish Embassy has filed a complaint. Because they said the poles they're always wrong. The zits another, There's Joe Scarborough. Very, very upset. And the pollsters. Well, wait a minute. How could the pollsters get? Is everybody lying to the pollsters? One in five voters that pollsters talked to light about who they were going to be supporting. So sure, but I don't think it all comes down. Tio some sampling error eyes. Certainly again, you could look at the presidential race. You can look at state calling..

House Judiciary Committee Impeachment Hearings Right Here
"And we begin tonight with the Astorg next step in the impeachment inquiry at a very combative one that played out today. On Capitol Hill the heated proceedings in front of the House Judiciary Committee the witnesses. Constitutional Law Scholars. who were asked was president? Trump's conduct on Ukraine impeachable. Three witnesses telling the committee yes arguing. The president abused his power for his own personal political game. The Republican witness saying the Democrats. Don't have the evidence that this is being rushed and tonight the unexpected moment when one of the witnesses brought up the president's youngest son to make a point it was not well received by many tonight. She's apologizing president trump meanwhile L. flying back to Washington tonight and lashing out this evening. What we've learned the president's team already looking ahead to what they want it? A Senate trial Terry Moran Lead US off from the hill tonight tonight. It was a highly partisan and dramatic day the first high stakes hearing in the judiciary committee featuring constitutional scholars and the issue before the panel does the evidence show that what president trump did on Ukraine rises to the level of an impeachable. Offense President has shown us his pattern of conduct. If we do not ah act to hold them in check now. President trump will almost certainly try again to solicit interference in the election for his personal political legal game. But this is not an impeachment. This is just a simple railroad job in today's is a waste of time right out of the gate three out of the four scholars. The ones chosen by Democrats testified that the president should be impeached. And I just want to stress that if this were if what we're talking about is not impeachable the nothing is impeachable if we cannot impeach a president who abuses his office for personal advantage we no longer live in a democracy. That's why the framers created the possibility of impeachment. The very idea that the president might seek the aid of a foreign government in his reelection campaign would have horrified them based on the evidentiary record. That is what President Trump has done Stanford law professor. Pamela Carlin said the president's alleged actions withholding nearly four hundred million dollars in USA approved by Congress simply for personal political. Gain has never happened before the evidence reveals a president who used the powers of his office to demand that a foreign government participate in undermining competing candidate for the presidency. Tendency Garland said over the Thanksgiving holiday. She read every with this transcript and she pointed out what she found. Most troubling and the most chilling line for me of the entire process was the following ambassador. Silence said he had to announce the investigations. He's talking about a presence Alinsky had to announce the investigations he. He didn't actually have to do them as I understood it. And then he said I never heard Mr Goldman anyone say that the investigations had to start or had to be completed. The only thing I heard from Mr Giuliani or otherwise was they had to be announced in some form and what I took that to mean was this was not about whether Vice President Biden actually actually committed corruption or not. This was about injuring. Somebody who the president thinks of as a particularly a particularly hard opponent donents but law professor Jonathan Turley called by Republicans said he did not vote for trump but he is still troubled by the Democrats impeachment inquiry in an agitated good time in our country. I get it. You're mad. The president's mad my Republican friends are mad. My Democratic friends. Rents are mad. My wife is mad. My kids are mad. Even my dog seems mad. He's a Democrats. Don't would have the evidence they need. There's a difference between requesting investigations and a quid pro quo. You need to stick the landing on quid pro quo. You need to get the evidence to support it. It might be out there. I don't know but it's not in this record. And he added. The Democrats are rushing this. It's a the perfect storm. You set an incredibly short period. Demand a huge amount of information and when the president goes to court you then impeach him in Nixon listen to the courts and Nixon lost and that was the reason. Nixon resigned house speaker. Nancy Pelosi Oh surging house democrats quote. Are you ready. While Vice President Mike Pence Rallying Republicans to turn up the heat on the Democrats and back in that hearing room. Republicans were were furious when one of those law professors argued that the constitution does not make trump a king driving the point home with a quip about the president's son done so while the president can name his son Barron. He can't make him a baron. When you invoke the president sons named here when you try to make a little joke out out of referencing Barron trump that does not lend credibility to your argument? It makes you look mean it makes you look like you're attacking someone's family the minor child of the president of the United States. So let's see if we can get into the facts to all of the witnesses. If you have personal knowledge of a single material fact in the shift report please raise your hand and let the record reflect no personal knowledge of a single fact so after that moment today. Let's get to Terry Moran Tonight as live on the hill in Terry I the apology. Not just in tonight from that law scholar who brought up the president's youngest son that's right Stanford Law Professor Pamela Cartland at the end of the hearing said this I want to apologize for what I said earlier about the president's son. It was wrong of me to do that it was. I wish the president would apologize. Obviously for the things that he's done that are wrong but I do regret having he said that. In the meantime Terry where does this go from here. It seems to be moving very quickly and news tonight from the president's legal team suggesting they believe a Senate trial is a certainty. And what do they want a senior trial. The president is a tough litigator and he's planning a scorched earth defense they want a full Senate trial including the president wants to the ability to call witnesses. Braff perhaps live in the Senate chamber itself He wants the Republican leadership has already blocked out the entire month of January. This is essentially eventually away and no one should be surprised at the president using the trial to put his accusers on trial.
