We're open twenty seventeen hebrew to beer german heff as a fundraiser to raise money to send them to a tournament that here now for years later has turned into something. That athens is doing it. A big way again distributing across our footprint and fifteen percent of all proceeds from that beer is going to support the human rights campaign as well as a local lgbtq plus charity in every market. That were selling that beer. That's really got it. I love to see beers with 'cause whatever you believe in there and i just learned that atlanta does water polo. Yeah i love it. They're all over the place but you've got us a new beer here. If can you tell us what were enjoying. Absolutely so this is a series of single hop pails that we do called one hopper every one of those has a different hop variety in it. Now i should back up and talk about the production team. Here at the brewery are brew. Master peter trapani started his career at pizza. Port out in california. Okay went to uc davis and then one of the commissioning assistant brew masters at sierra nevada up in river mills north carolina. So he knows how to brew pale in there and so we have a delicious five point five. Abc american pale and this one does feature mosaic thompson so beautiful backdrop for For you know you've got a little blueberry a little stone through there definitely some tropical notes in there as well. Yeah it's an extremely beer. But it's very refreshing. It is full of flavor it is and there is a very classic based profiled this appel. You've got your little bit of bitterness there in the pell in that we know the trend man make him juicy high bitterness. All this if you're the classic pele al fan this delivers for sure. Backdrop really lets the mosaic shank. That's a beautiful I i've always liked mosaic. A long time it really shines in that. That's one of my favorites. Very nice very nicely. Done very nicely done. Thank you thank the one hoppers upper. Yep so i'm curious. Something i was looking into earlier. The farm system like this is one hot. Pursuit is a series of beers. Right where you're swapping out. Are you swapping out hops. In this we onto the next yep every every single one has a different friday. Yeah and so you had another one. I don't know if you're still doing it. Called the farms farm system basically everything we do has to have a baseball punt so far the minor leagues like. Let's see what works. Cbs guy who can play or dot. We got our hands on a bunch of different experimental hop varieties from a yakima valley of washington state and started playing around with them as a single hop. Ipa's and called the farm system series of ip as. We're talking about hop varieties that come out of the field. That just have a lot number on them. And they haven't been named yet so these growers are trying to find out. Is this something that has legs. This is something brewers want to put their name on it and we'll grow a ton of acres of it so yeah we took a bunch of those and brew individual single hop Under the farm system name put them in front of consumers and we had at least two at a time on at the same time so we could put them down in front people. Say what did you like. What don't you like. You know as a to bitter flavor profile of each one of them. Did you have any distinct winners like this needs to become like a regular yes absolutely and probably not shockingly the one that had the most tropical notes that was the most assure either the most juicy i would say is the one that people were like. This is the winner was flavor. These are we going tries no surprise. I can't argue with that. I dig him so but it's nice to get that classic flavor too much bitterness of set at a lot you know if it's true bracing. I'm out brian. You like your big west coast beast. But do i do. And i wasn't tricked. The part of the reason i brought that up and i know it because it was so unusual there was one that talked about having was a black cherry and cola and like i saw that. I'm like it's been a whilst yabroudy but did that deliver what it said or is that just kind of like make believe a little bit a little bit of sales pitch. That's a very interesting one. And it's such a distinctive flavor on there. It also had this really interesting note of fennel black licorice which can be that is definitely love it or hate. It did have people that were like whoa. That's really interesting. Definitely a hot friday. That would like to play with in something like a brown show Even like a milk stout something where those you know those balance between the sweetness and some of those different flavors were really well. Some of these are tricky. There's one out. And i forget the number right now. It's an hp something for seventy two something along those lines now. But it's got a woody note to it and you know they were talking about like the barrel flavor right. I thought i liked it. I thought i didn't back. I don't care for that. Hop in most beers. I found out because to me the woody notice very pronounced and i don't think it works in a lot of stuff that they use it yourself a very interesting concept but there's another one the one that gives you the vanilla cookie flavor bryant which one is at ella cookie. Hang on the The kind of a yazoo using their anniversary beer. Oh yes and it was hot. We were really into it for a minute and it was a number. I don't remember what was the number this. The named hough was. I can't remember what it was but controversial one because it does give vanilla. And i always got like a cookie. I got a cookie note. I'll let her. But the one with the would i think take a very special use of it in an ip. 'cause i had it a couple of different times and a couple of times this way to what he delivered something like coconut. He was like it could be either on coconut or something like that. I'm getting confused with crossing up haas several. I think maybe the american yeah. Maybe i don't know woody. Was that four. Seventy two might have been the one. That was. Woody and i think with something like that would go with like a brownell or something like that as a as a better idea or absolutely you have to use it with a superlight touch. That's all i can figure with something very unusual and specialized but the cool thing being the brew lab kind of playing around your guys thing. It's all about so you're in here. Check them out and you done. Did i see you've done over one hundred years here in the foreigners. Yeah yes so. We started in two thousand seventeen. We've done over one hundred different unique recipes. Some of them are one and done. You know we're not going to breed that beer again. But we'll see how our crowd reacts to it. See how you like it. Obviously and some of those ideas have grown up and moved onto the bigger in athens and become the next big thing. So we're looking for you know what might be looking for. What's on the horizon for new seasonal. The new year round beer made it to the show. Show me the major leagues. We got out of the farm. Yes exactly so. What are the ones one made it into. The province is one of the most bravo's A beer that one of the first recipes. We ever brewed on this system here in atlanta a nice crisp refreshing mexican lager beer than obviously you know has has has a lot of popularity here in the park but has now been taken up to our big hundred barrel brew house in athens and is being distributed as far and wide as like michigan and wisconsin. Wow okay yeah so. That's one of the ones that we're really proud of. As well as high in hazy hazy we have started out life here at the brew- lab is something called three up three down as the we call it three up three down because they had three hops in three grains. Were really good at here. Once as a prerequisite to running a brewery team has to be successful yes to the point where spike in dustin in athens have been with the baseball names. We might have enough. We're at a ballpark. Do don't tell me how to live. That's exactly.

Like by the way is here and he'll he'll be crowd. Yeah but they didn't run me out of there. So i think okay all right good stuff. Good stuff you know. You're talking about being in milwaukee and and working up to growth bury their. i used to work for milwaukee. Electric tool company love. And i was a young in training to be an industrial engineer and we did a workshop up there in as they coming up from the airport. We're going up out of the escalators and It's like yeah it's like it's funny and all this stuff for brooders like we can't drink it. It's a totally dry county. And i go because even stupid. I'm like. oh bummer. Really he's like no of course. Not this milwaukee then. House aright is actually mandatory beer in milwaukee county. We had during launch working in a power tool factory. They had been beers there for man power tools and beer. It's funny you know. I don't have a story about milwaukee thinking about everybody else says now i don't think have you ever been to. I had a good time there man. It's very clean. Wholesome creates a serious kind of town there so it was a good time. I should admire the dream of going to work. Because i can remember the era where that was the thing like. They're the biggest davos that the deal. Everybody wants a job there. I remember those days in this respectable respectable and this is two thousand six so big beer is starting to become a buzzword right and and the revolution is happening and i was like wait a minute. I just got here. They don't do it what they're saying. Is you peaked real early. Let's downhill for that. What you're saying that sort of thing that's gotta be a town where the dream is to go to work in a factory or for a big corporate company. At least it's beer. Abs in two thousand two and won a gold medal immediately so they were often running there. Like i think we might have something here rights and that's going back almost twenty years now. If you've been in georgia beer for twenty years there were maybe four. Choose from you. Know all along that period so tarapoto. Jeez the you know the patriarchs georgia. I didn't realize how young terrapin was at the time. But i came here around two thousand three and one of my early favorites was that Pale i really laugh. In at that point i thought terrapin was more established than it was but yeah they were very young. I didn't realize that i really enjoyed that. Beer beer and honestly beer scene was bar in. Thank god for that beer back in those days. What would i have even done coming over for portland oregon right now to hear like without that and I guess four twenty sweetwater up. That was it. Yeah yeah in imports. Going way. Back and You know that it's it's one of those beers that it's quote unquote in hibernation right now right. It's not. It's not a regular year round beer that we grew but we keep bringing it back because so many people love it and we you know we hear about it on social media we hear about it in our tapper and when is ripe fail coming back so It's something that you'll see from time to time. Have you experimented with versions of it here. In the the line we absolutely have and then once they versions so spike does not allow us to touch that recipe. Right okay are what we do is we. We will brew a ripe l l exactly to his specification okay. If you get close to that how close to that recipe and you get before he comes in and says no no stuff. That's close got ryan but it's not same thing too close to play around with spike like trying to get close to that exactly until it until you get across from their. Call the beer trolling spike. Love it now. I don't want that to cost your job but it would be funny way to lose a job be worth it. It might be worth so tell us about the beer. We're drinking writer right now. Beer were located here inside the braves stadium and so we really do focus on a lot of sessional styles and we love lagers. I would say you know if you look at what we fruit over the past four years since we've opened it's probably like a seventy thirty split of lock. Seventy percent loggers versus ails partly. Because that's a great fear to truck. I'm sure but also because we grew. We wanna drink right. It's myself and peter and chad degree of us. We love lager beers. We tried to keep a a nice fresh clean lager on draft all the time so we've got this calloused that we're drinking today are keller pills that we try to earlier out. Yeah we have a A nice little. We call it a summer pills. That's not a real style but we've creating creating stuff. That beer is called happy pills. So okay take your happy pills. What makes summary honors. It's the fact that we tap during the summer. Okay it's a seasonal tap smart is light it's crispy the ph style down. You know so that. It's super refreshing and crib. Make sure to come back later. Blake right and for those. That don't know there's all kinds of dirty words used to describe it but terrapin was acquired by ten blake Miller coarser molson coors is course they are terrapin is part of a big beer company and you came from that background terrapin. How did that transition absolutely did so. I grew up in a small town about sixty miles north of milwaukee. Growing up there the dream. The dream of everyone was to get a job at miller brewing company. In milwaukee right. I mean look at that highlight logo hanging over the top of the brew house in milwaukee basically writing about fifteen years ago. I was lucky enough to make that happen for me. So i did start from the very beginning in the beer industry with a quote unquote big beer as a sales analyst and then moving into field sales and then started to work in learning development. Molson course actually does a great job of beer education. Okay not only their field sales team in their marketing teams but also distributors and so i was brought on board help with something they called at the time miller coors university And the the beer merchant program where. I taught classes on how to homebrew hot pair of beer food together how to cook with beer things like that that all turned into moving to atlanta joining the terrapin team at the braves stadium. Which is kind of crazy. I like all of those things cooking with beer drinking beer big fan of that. All that is good stuff. There was a great story. you were talking about. How will your beer pairing one in What was that was with blue moon and he had to present blue moon. So you say cheese. And it's a via guys on your show a little while back which was a great episode. But i mean that is the pinnacle of brewing. A beer in a ballpark and having it turns into something. Incredible right. if you don't know the story key via worked at the sandlot brewery at coors field in denver colorado where the rockies play and in nineteen ninety-five hebrew beer called It was called belly. Durham north carolina in october and blockbuster night part one with brew gentlemen brewery looked for that at barrel inflow fast in september so that might actually be upon us already professor back man. Yeah it's within the next week or so. So a portion of the proceeds will go to a variety of nonprofits like beer culture one hood steel city arts initiative etc and bonus third collaborating on a colebrook coffee with chicago's dark matter coffee so i really want to get hold of that coffee. That absolutely you know what mark. I want to take this opportunity right out of the gate. I would like to take chad martin and throw him directly under the under the boss of the gay over with so chad will never forgive you for never channel is gonna join us. It was unable to. Put new beers does come up here in. Sometimes it's hard to coordinate the schedule that he he keeps me informed. Always let us know what's new up here donald despite all of that. But i'll let him know we're gonna make it okay because we have mark with us so everything's fine. That's right that's all we gotta worry about. We're going to have a good time with it mark. We're here at the battery. I don't know if this was the first one but it's a new concept for ballparks. I mean we are are mobile studios currently set up. I can touch the front gates of the brace ballpark right now. Where we're set up in front of us. We've got a grain silo there at your brewery and then a big open area. We've got a greenspace there several restaurants. There's a steakhouses yard house. There's i think places got bull riding silver over ridge over. There is man so everything you need. The battery live work. Play kind of place where we've got it all here right. So yeah it's sort of a new concept for major league. Ballparks where you come out here not only to take in a game but everything else going on here. Restaurants live music a brewery. Of course some great foods. So there's a lot going on here there is plenty of and you know another one of our great sponsors truck and tap has the taps feast here. Oh yeah into all kinds of cool people that we know and love here. There are a ton of people here in the break aren't playing here today. So they're all here for everything else around you know what would normally you for mentioning that. Yes so we're open year round your even when the braves are either on the road or it's off season for the braves were open and we're all the time. Come get you beer. That's now the greenspace when the brazen on the road do they always put the games up on the big screen for people to walk absolutely. Yes yes so. Bring your lawn chair. Yes so we have The beer fest festival tell us a little bit about the festival today. So i have to get a huge shoutout to amari bunka and his team over at live at the battery sports and social. They're putting this festival on for us. The first of its kind in the battery. Hopefully the first of many but yeah a lot of grey areas here you know. I'm looking around. Orpheus is here sweetwater new realm many many more and we love having everybody from the local community out here showing off their best. I can't wait myself to go around tasting some beer chart. Yeah and i see george hemp companies here and i saw that they've got the delta eight which are you familiar with delta. I'm going to say it's is it a cbd base. Brian is at the moment at fully legal though. Controversial cbd extract. I guess it's of a little bit more potent than your regular beating. Apparently this is as close as you can get to actual marijuana or the thc side exactly. Yeah but apparently one little one little string on the way it's laid out makes it technically illegal. Okay so beer city ratings lists come out all the time. They're always fun to talk about and everybody likes to debate him. I think i'm going to talk about one. Website move dot. Org has published their best and worst cities for beer. Lovers going by per capita account of breweries which means that though denver colorado has more burris than any other city in total portland oregon beats them in the number of breweries per one hundred thousand residents. Twelve point nine four to twelve point. Three seven shadow to portland oregon nicely on our rights but also in the top ten. We've cincinnati ohio richmond. Virginia with eleven point one six and ten point seven seven respectively washington state overall wins based upon these numbers for the states in the union with both california new york being dragged down by the sheer population. They have so. It's a little unfair for them just because they've got so many people. i know. these are always controversial. But i'm just going to say straight up. That is a horrible metric to use to judge. A beer. city is just breweries per capita. I'll be honest with you. Because i still have a little bit of love my heart for portland oregon having been from there. Anything portland oregon the nod for being. Yeah we knew it when we were there to be recognized even if somebody's fingers on the scale so the the worst cities breweries per capita north. Las vegas nevada laredo. Texas in new york new york again new york with zero zero and zero point one six respectively. So i know vegas is really really bad. When it comes to the available there are some but not many jackson. Mississippi is a pretty tough town for a beer lover and that's probably offset by the population. There would probably because yeah the population. Slow in new york there. There's a lot of breweries out in new york. It's just so many people you get. What is it twelve million.

But it's certainly precautions are being taken a lot of places you're saying, you know, they want people to wait at least 15 minutes before they leave. So if there's any immediate reaction, I'll catch it. But the other thing to know on the other thing for all of us to recognize is that when these things were administered on a mass scale They're going to coincide with other health events in people's lives. People do, unfortunately, collapse and die every day, usually of heart issues. So when these things happen You know, you can't assume that it's because of the vaccine. You know, That's why we watch the statistics so we could see if there any patterns that indicate that boy this does seem to be related directly to the vaccine, and not just random. Legendary Georgetown basketball coach John Thompson Jr. dead at 78
"For you is a sad one. The death of the legendary Georgetown basketball coach John Thompson Jr. You heard them mention that on CBS News Just a minute ago, John Thompson Jr were 78. Thompson wasn't just the Hall of Fame basketball coach over 27 years of Georgetown. He was a cultural force from a pure basketball standpoint. Thompson took over Georgetown in 1972 after the team finished with just three Winds. From there, he built the program into a powerhouse. He became the first black coach to win a national championship in 1984. But the voice of the Maryland Terrapins, Georgetown's rival, Johnny Holliday, says he was quite the figure off the court. I put I always referred to him as the gentle, giant and awesome, towering figure that imposing figure that I think a lot of people misunderstood. But I always found coach Thompson to be accessible to be courteous to be nice and paid such a great street for young people not only academically but also athletically to be successful in life and what he did. "Hello everyone. This is Tim, Ron Ahmed founder, and CEO of the business of fashion. Welcome to the latest episode of B. O. F. Live today I'm here with the designer Stella Zhong who is joining us from. and. We're here to talk about a very important topic of his see that we have been discussing at length here on the OH F- Few months much of the discussion around the black lives matter movement in fashion has been focused on conversations in the US and to a certain extent here in the UK where I'm based but Stella has been playing a leading role in driving the conversation around black lives matter in Italy, and so we're delighted to have her with us today to help paint a picture about how this conversation is very important. Conversation has a very unique tone and history and contacts that differentiates it. From some of the other countries, of course, the core conversation is rooted in the same goals around achieving better racial equity for black professionals in fashion. But initially, there's some specific contexts and situations that make the conversation. They're a really important one to consider outside some of the other conversations that we've been having. So I'm delighted to have Stella with us here today and Stella. Before we dive into the topic at hand I want to start with you and your personal background and history just for those listeners and viewers who don't. Already aren't already familiar with your work. What's the Difference Between Turtles and Tortoises?

They looked strange. And these our modern mammalian times when lots of things are squishy and unarmored but during the late Permian epoch. Those early turtles were dressed in all the latest fashions. Although mass extinctions have happened with some regularity on our planet this one was a doozy and it wiped out almost all of the life in the oceans and over two thirds of the vertebrates on land. They're not great for moving around on land at all because they're adapted for swimming quickly. Their shells have a low flat profile for cutting through the water. Compare that to a Galapagos Tortoise for example whose body can weigh up to nine hundred twenty pounds. That's almost four hundred twenty kilos with stocky elephantine legs a high dome. Shell and big scales on their exposed skin to protect them from predators and they wouldn't last long in the ocean but luckily they don't have to. The Smith said for the most part. There's not really one characteristic that tells you whether something is a tortoise or turtle but it's pretty clear if you see a little turtle on the side of the road and it has a sort of flattened shell profile webbed feet in the back smooth skin and some brighter colors. The terminology can be confusing Box Turtles for instance which are widespread in the United States in Central America? And don't really swim or spend much time in the water. But they're still considered turtles rather than tortoises and then there are the terrapins.
