Big Oil Evaded Regulation And Plastic Pellets Kept Spilling

"Plastic pellets have been spilling into oceans and rivers. The world over where birds and fish eat them. They are the building blocks of all plastic melts 350 of them. You get a yogurt cup 1000 gets you a water bottle. But an NPR and PBS frontline investigation found the oil and plastic industry has long known there an environmental problem. NPR's Laura Sullivan brings us this story about how the oil in plastic industry evaded regulation. Despite decades of spills. You probably haven't spent a lot of time standing on train tracks looking at your feet. We're looking at the edge of a highway outside of plastic manufacturer. If you did, there's a good chance you'll see them little plastic pellets. This is Kocsis Creek, and we're looking at fresh pellets. It has fallen out of the Terps. Ronnie hammering is standing on state Road 35 in Southeast Texas, rising four square miles. Behind him is the petrochemical plant, Formosa Plastics. And they're not just here. There over there. They're important Lakha. You're gonna find him down the road Hand looks not an anti plastic environmentalist. He's a former supervisor who worked to Formosa for 25 years, And while he worked there, he says he was told to cover up spills of classic pallets. I want you to put down a certain number. You know what I'm saying? They want to keep it love. So So you line so would you like That's my job. That's my bread and butter, so I got to do what they think. I got a family. What's striking about standing outside Formosa and finding pellets? 100 yards from the plant's edge is that last year for most agreed to pay $50 million to settle a lawsuit in which it agreed to zero discharge of pellets. And yet, here they are and down in the creek, where the plant drains thousands more. Ah federal judge called Formosa, a serial offender for most of says it's working to improve its containment systems. But Formosa is just one of thousands of companies that either make or use plastic pellets in the United States. The oil and plastic industry says it doesn't have a problem, Officials told me for most of it was simply a quote bad actor, while leading companies like Exxon and Chevron recently told shareholders that at their dozens of facilities worldwide Either lose, not a single pellet or just two sandwich bags full. And here's how they say they've done it. Thanks again for signing on the operation Clean Sweep Operation Clean Sweep is a voluntary program the industry came up with in 1991. Companies that joined watch videos and promised to keep pellets from spilling from plant truck ships and rail cars. There's no data required. No numbers, nothing public. The operation Clean sweep is truly making a difference. Together, we can achieve zero pellet flake and proud of us. The industry says it's been a success. Pellet containment is incredibly important to our members. Steve Russell was until recently the vice president of plastics for the American Chemistry Council, which jointly runs the program, Nobody wants plastic in the environment. And if it still happens, and if we're gonna assume it's an accidental release, then it will be reported and remediation steps could be taken. Formosa is an operation Clean sweep member. So I asked to former workers and Ronnie Hamrick about it. I have no idea what you're even talking about. I've never heard it. There's evidence the industry does, in fact, have a pellet problem. Recent spills on beaches in Louisiana in South Carolina and studies show pellets are contaminating oceans, killing birds and fish and carrying toxins through rivers. There's also evidence the industry has known about this problem all along. In 2005, the industry participated in a study of 10 pellet plants. It found pellets washed away in heavy rain at every single facility and called Operation Clean sweep. Inadequate. But even long before that, there's a memo buried inside thousands of documents left over from old industry lawsuits. It was written in March. 1991 Thean Mysteries Trade Association warns top executives from Exxon, Chevron, Dow DuPont and others. But the EPA have recently found pellets to be quote ubiquitous in the environment. Regulation and permits are likely coming, the memo says. Unless they act quickly, it may still be possible to institute voluntary programs to address the pellet issue, it says. Unless this occurs, it is likely EPA will act independently. Then, just four months later, we developed a program that was called Operation Clean Sweep. Lou Freeman was a vice president at the time for the trade association, then called the Society of the Plastics industry. I don't recall any discussions. But quantitatively measuring the success of the program. It was being measured really about who is participating that what the results were, so it was a voluntary program without any metrics. Yeah, I would like to think that they were also doing it because it was the right thing to do. But I'd also be naive if I didn't think that much of the motivation was was governed by, you know. Keeping the regulators off our back today. The EPA doesn't regulate pellets and in the almost 30 years since, the agency told NPR it has brought just 10 Clean Water Act enforcement cases against facilities accused of spilling pellets. How would anyone really know if pellets were leaking? If you head down to the Gulf of Mexico pellet manufacturers like Chevron Phillips say they're not. I can tell you that. It's not a problem here at Chevron Phillips, we have almost no Let's leaving our sights. Jim Bakker is the

"That's going to contend for something next year certainly contend for a playoff spot next year. And he's with a coach that is familiar with him Kendall Fuller Ben Standing. Didn't mention this to us on the podcast. But as part of his story On Friday mentioned the Kendall Fuller and the redskins that there's mutual interest there so the redskins don't end up with James Bradberry via free agency corner from Carolina that Rivera's very familiar with. It's possible that fuller could be a target for the Redskins And then there was this Mike Freeman from bleacher report Who did Freeman used to rate for? I forget he used to be on Tony. Show all the time. I think he's a good reporter. I remember some of the football conversations not being allowed by them necessarily but I think he's a very solid reporter and has been for a long time but anyway quote this is what he wrote Unbelievable report quote several teams said. That young was impressive. During his combine interviews electric is how one coach described the presumptive number. Two pick in the upcoming draft a team personnel executive. Who met with Young said he was quote smart quick and a natural leader? He blew us away closed. Quote that From Mike Freeman on Friday or Saturday Some of the reaction to the interviews with Chase Young. The indy combine Smart Quick Natural leader. He blew US away. I don't think a lot of thought needs to go into this and I think we're GONNA end appear anyway but there's GonNa be a lot of conversation about two and there's GonNa be a lot of conversation about trading back you know you'd have to really blow me away with an offer to get off chase young. Because if all of the due diligence and the kind of person he is on the kind of work ethic he has on the kind of leader he can be I is all overwhelmingly positive. Electric in you know blows us away. blows the redskins away. I'm not over thinking this man. I'm taking chase young. He's the best pass rushing prospect in years and years. You don't find guys with disability. Look look at what Nick. Bosa did to that defense. Last year a young talent to defense that added Bosa and all the sudden they became a dominant defense. I'm not over thinking this you you offer me a bunch of firsts and the ability to move down just a couple of spots and you know to I in two seconds and a future if you blow me way with an offer. I'M GONNA considering I'M GONNA listen to everything but I don't want to end up passing on the next great defensive NFL player. It's hard to find him right now. Would you trade back or would you take Aaron Donald? Would you trade backer? Would you take von Miller? Would you trade back or would you take Nick Bosa? I just don't want to be sitting there. You know. In three years with the giants Or the Lions in the you know having chase young defensive. Mvp and everybody's made better by his mere presence and he's a leader and he's smart and he's engaging and he's dominant. I don't WANNA HAVE JEFF. Okuda getting beat on you know. Couple of deep ones in pro football focus telling us he's barely a top ten corner or whatever I mean I think Isaiah Simmons's talented too. Don't get me wrong He's not chase young in my view All of the personal stuff. These interviews are so crucial. The medical so crucial. The tape speaks for itself on Chechen If everything else checks out in your blown away Mike. Freeman reported One NFL executive was You don't over think this it's chase young number two now. The last thing I want to get to the Redskins is this so I guess it was on Friday Dwayne Haskins on social media Sent out an instagram message. Where he was basically openly recruiting Stefan digs. See this or not I missed us. Okay so I guess. Let me describe the INSTAGRAM PICTURES. And animation. it's an animated drawing picture of Basically You know Dwayne Haskins having just completed a pass to step on digs wearing number fourteen in a Redskins Jersey and running with the football with Haskins in the background. Okay This isn't the first time you know he's sort of reached out to Stefan digs it says. Dmv connection you'll remember DMV YOU MD with asking of course when he was recruited by Maryland committed to Maryland then started trying to recruit other players to come to Maryland. So look I'm not gonNA make a big deal out of this. Most of you've been listening to me know that. I'm actually very OPTIMISTIC ABOUT TWAIN. Haskins a million times more than I was a year ago and I'm rooting for him. I think he entered a very difficult situation with a bunch of buffoons in the organization and it was just tough for him. I'm not saying that other players haven't dealt with the same thing but the stuff that was coming out about him last year. I JUST. I hated it for him. And in part of it's made me really root for him. I really legitimately Dwayne Haskins to succeed. And I believe that he's got a really good chance of succeeding so much more so than I used to. I'm not totally convinced that he's going to be great but I think the downside is now basically you know the bust potentials off the table. And I think you know a franchise quarterback somewhere right around top ten number ten somewhere. I think that's in play with this guy. I think can be a franchise quarterback you know. I'M NOT GONNA sit here and go on and on about what I think of him. If you've been listening to the show for a while you know there was a lot. I like about Twain Haskins. And then you know they're clearly some flags as Tommy said some major red flags about him. You know whether it's been some of the press conferences or the selfish with still another snap to be had or something like this for me. I'm not not saying that all of you have to feel the same way and I know that for some of you. This is an okay boomer moment okay but there are two things to this that bother me three things really number one. Is it's borderline tampering. You know you can't openly recruit a guy you know from another team that's under contract so I don't know specifically whether or not the league will do anything on this But if I were the team if I were the Redskins I would immediately go to join and say don't do this. We could get you know. This could just become uncomfortable. Even if they don't prove tampering they could bring it up with us. You don't that you know it could. It could be considered openly recruiting a player. Who's under contract? Which by the way you can't even do if he's on the verge of being a free agent. It's considering tampering unless you get into the legal tampering period. Okay so that's number one number two. Is this number two is just you do your job. Focus on becoming a better quarterback and let the people who handle personnel do. There's okay you've got Kyle Smith. You got coach Centric Ron. They'll handle the personnel decisions. If they think they want to go after Stefan digs. We'll see it as a final result. You focus on your deal. You know. You're not Lebron James. You know openly recruiting great players to come play with you and win a championship. You've started seven games. Okay Sir. Gist you get better. You focus on your deal and you become great in after four or five pro bowls. G- openly recruit somebody even if it's borderline tampering. Even then I wouldn't recommend it. And then lastly is this. Here's what bothers me. I think as much as anything else and again. I'm not gonNA get crazy about this because it's so today it's so you know athletes entertainers young people. This isn't even in the the fact that someone me would have a problem with it. They make a lot of younger. People can't even comprehend why I've given you two reasons. Here's the third you know. He started seven games as a rookie. He had three wide receivers. All rookies play really. Well as rookies specially Terry McLaren and Stevenson's junior and Kelvin Hormann. All three of them and maclaurin was really good player. And when you openly recruit a star player from another team for a position. Aren't you in some ways just implying that you're not good enough at the position? Is it his position? Is it his role to question whether or not they're good enough that wide receiver. When he's got three rookies. Who by the way you know? Maclaurin not only played more than he did but produced more than he did. I gave this analogy on the radio that I'm GonNa give to you right now. What if Terry maclaurin on his instagram account put out a an animated picture of Jameis Winston? Throwing him a touchdown pass and said you know we want you James or Florida to DC. What if he did that? I understand. It's not apples to apples that there are three sometimes. Four or five wide receivers on the field and only one quarterback on the field. I understand that. So don't you know you can give it to me that it's not exactly the same thing she and you understand that right one quarterback. I do understand that but still you know doesn't mean that Terry maclaurin or Kelvin Harmon were Steven Sims junior. Even though they're four five on the field or three of them are two of them. It doesn't mean that they won't be sort of you know have the feeling of a guy doesn't completely believe in me. You know this this guy. By the way he only started seven games we might be better off trading him for digs. I just don't Some of you I know are rolling your eyes saying are you serious. She and you're making a big deal out of this. I'm not making a big deal out of it. I'm just telling you that when I saw I was if I were a mentor or an advisor to Duane. I would immediately say to him. Don't do this okay. For the three reasons I gave and if he pushed back on any of the reasons I would say then. Let's just focus on the possible tampering. Don't do this. It's not good for the organization. Okay you put us at risk. We'll stick with that one for the time being and by the way we don't want players doing you know the open recruiting or the Lemme. Gm my offense. We got people that do that job. If you have a problem with the way I feel. That's that's fine and I'm always open minded minded to this stuff. But you're going to have a hard time convincing me that. I shouldn't have had that reaction. I'm rooting for join half Haskins. I really am. I want him to do well. I also have the same concerns that Tommy has and that a lot of you have that there could be a maturity issue here you know and maybe three years from now four years from now. You won't get this. I mean Tom. Brady has sort of openly recruited players. He's also a M- you know. How many Super Bowls Five Super Bowl? Time wonder how many super bowls is pretty when my blanking on that? Whatever I mean somebody called in this morning and had the gall to say Lebron James Does it okay and your point is is joined Haskins. Lebron James No you know I may five years from now. If he's on his fourth pro bowl I may have..

"Whatever they are most likely to be at or whatever's left meanwhile they're the top for the east Has Lunardi come out with his updated bracket algae today? Yeah I think they had. He had him as a foreign the east. He had him as a four yesterday. In the East With Dayton is the one data now is definitely in line with San Diego State Losing Utah State the other if Dayton takes care of business. They're the one they're not GONNA lose a May. Have they even had a close game in the end? The eight ten is not a good league this year. How many eight ten teams are GonNA end up in the big dance maybe too? Yeah who's the second Richmond if men probably All right so We know what's at stake But at the same time there's no reason to think that the achievement that they had isn't satisfying in some way felt good to win. That game. Yesterday felt good for them to raise a a trophy to cut down nets. It actually did a nice day. I do have one criticism yesterday and that is hey students. Okay get to the game in place. The Wall wasn't even full. I mean I understand. It wasn't Michigan State. We all day to get amped up. This was for the big ten title to twelve noon. Start I understand the clocks sprung forward. You know maybe he didn't know what time it was And I know corona virus had something to do with. You know everybody's feeling yesterday going to the game but the wall behind the basket was not completely full and by the way they win. The game started at noon. You know it was three quarters. Full ended up probably four fifths. Full all right But you know Gimme me a break you know you wanna be a basketball school. You want it to be important you WANNA do flash mobs and you want to have people out there and talking about what a great fan base. It is when you're playing your home. Finale and Anthony Collins being honored on senior day and you got a chance for a share of the big ten title. You gotta fill up the students seats. I'm sure there was an issue where you know. Students backed out. And they couldn't transfer their tickets. I hear all these excuses all the time for all this stuff They they don't seem to be issues at the other big time basketball schools in the same spot. I was watching that Michigan State game. It was packed to the rafters. Ada Shot Not one seat and I know. The game was sold out technically. Yesterday there were empty. Students seats In that in that wall section Ncaa tournament. I'm expecting sweet. Sixteen elite eight. I am You know. They don't need depth in the NC Double A. Tournament. Unless you get foul trouble but you don't get tired. You have extra long timeouts you know. Tv timeouts context is everything. On how will feel but I can tell you one thing. There is no context to losing the first weekend. None if they lose in the sweet sixteen to a better team team there are an underdog to is the three seat against a two seater. A four seat against a one seat. That's different than losing in the sweet sixteen is a two seed to the The eleven who pulled off two upsets. You know context is everything but I'm expecting them to play. Well in fact I think it might be easier for them when they get to this Let's hope some of us. Let's hope I'll also want because I have heard the. Oh who cares that? Zeno shared regular season title. That doesn't really mean anything and this is it doesn't mean alley that but here's the thing and it's something turgeon pointed out yesterday. First of all this is the only the eighth time in the history Maryland that they want to regular season conference title. That's what happens when you're in a league with Duke and Carolina. The other thing Duke has not won a conference regular season title since they tied with Maryland. Amazing ten amazing amazing. It is look. I think we all understand this with tergence said yesterday about Conference Championship Regular Season Championship being harder than sweet sixteen. It's true you know you only have to win. Two Games to get to the Sweet Sixteen. You know win. A twenty game conference regular season title with the League. They were in his is really tough. It's it's definitely a bit better measuring stick than done. We understand that best is seven reflects more on the kind of team. You are then a one and done where you can be prone to one bad night and be done With that said this sport is measured on what you do in March period. You know most people are just starting to pay attention. You know you gotTa get if you right. Now I would take a fifth-place finish in the big ten every single year. If we were in the sweet sixteen with a chance go to the final four. Okay so that that's we all understand that I will get to some redskins news from over the weekend after a quick word for mybookie dot. Ag It's March springtime. It's march madness. Ag At mybookie. You play you win. You get paid all right. Let's talk some Redskins There's a lot of news over the weekend and will start with the latest on on. Trent Williams Ian Rapoport Had this on the NFL network on Friday afternoon. Around the time of the combine the Redskins were not hearing much from teams interested in potentially trading for Trent Williams. And then of course the word gets out that the redskins would consider and then we learned yesterday that they did give his agent permission to seek a trade and team started calling. There is interest. Will IT BE ENOUGH? Is a real question a couple of things we need to know here. First of all the Washington redskins you're not gonNA give away so with the trade request with the ability. For his agent to facilitated trade. The redskins made clear that it needs to be fair. Compensation Fair draft compensation so needs to be something that would make sense for them. For trading away a premier left tackle. The other thing is for his new team if he does in fact have a new team like tren. Williams is going to want a new deal. It's not gonna be any crazy is not gonNA demand twenty five million dollars or something but he is going to want a new deal that gives him long-term security. It's just a question now. Can the redskins and can turn Williams agent? Get this done art. So couple of things. There number one You heard him discussing That fair draft compensation is a requirement for the Redskins is what we talked about last week. I do not want them. Trading Trent Williams unless they get at minimum a second round early second round. Pick back for him I did think it was interesting. That he mentioned fair draft compensation. I don't know if that was purposeful. but There were you know. Maybe he understands. They went draft picks not players number two the twenty five million that he's not going to demand twenty five million. I think is in part a response to maybe JP Finley's report that Trent would one One an obscene amount of money I think it's very possible that with another team. Trent will lower his demands contractually. I just think that that is something that I believe. In J P's reporting on this in some of the things that I had heard that he was demanding an outrageous some on an annual average Standpoint so maybe he's asking the new for less but he wants the Redskins to pay more. I think he wants out There was other reporting on Trent Williams over the weekend. Connor Hughes from the athletic said. The jets are going to be interested. Ben Standing set it on our podcast and then set it on the athletic as well. That the Texans and cardinals are exploring options Mary. Kay cabot you know had said on that Thursday. When Diana Rossini broke the news that the Redskins were allowing Trent to seek a trade that the browns would be interested. All this is good news because what you want is you want more teams interested. Then less right you want more demand for less supply so if you can get Trent Williams If you can if you can have a market for Trent Williams and teams competing for him and they all feel like they can get them signed. Now you know you can really end up with a price that may reflect what they would have gotten last year and they ended up getting what they would have gotten last year. All is well you know and and we won't have to spend a lot of time. Crucifying you know Bruce. Allin four you know a terrible handling of the situation costing the redskins organizationally a very high draft choice or or something more. I learned last week. Erin. I learned last week and I don't know that this is that significant to the story that Houston was willing to part with Jude. Avian cloudy at some point last offseason in last summer for Trent William Straight up. Now the Redskins weren't taking calls. They weren't taking offers that he was not on the trade bloc and you know just making them available as they did last week Now you get teams to seriously consider this. You Know I. I have a problem with the team. Leaking out information that there wasn't any interest in Trent that the interest when there was some interest was much less than what people thought it was in their interests for people to think that they weren't turning down massive offers bottom line is they weren't taking many calls so you have no idea what teams were really willing to offer. I just look intuitively it what they offered and what they paid a Houston did for Tunsil. Okay and cut it in half based on the age and you still end up with a first rounder for Trent. So I think the red skins would have gotten you know some real good value for Trent. I think we would have seen no worse than a second and a third and potentially a I plus you know if there had been competition if they had made them available last summer even prior to the trade deadline. But they didn't now they have and you've got more teams involved now two different situation right because he's only got one year left on his deal. He wants a contract extension and a big one and you're closer to a draft. That is fairly deep with left tackles. So we'll see I mean I expect him to get traded. I would think that the redskins wouldn't get you know anything worse than a second rounder. Personally I wouldn't take anything less than an early second. Rounder and the good news. Is that some of those teams fit the bill for early. Second rounders some of them don't but there seems to be a market for. Trent Williams. That's good to know you know and You know we'll see if if he ruins it with his contract demands or or if it were if the Redskins Day you know kill it with what they're asking four as return compensation. They're still long road to go here but The fact that multiple teams it's being reported are interested. Makes it a better situation for the redskins more redskins news from over the weekend Start with this the news this morning. Josh Norman according to Mike Garafolo At the NFL network has signed a deal with Buffalo. It's a six million dollar based salary deal for twenty twenty one year deal with two million dollars in incentives So you know The two million and incentives the six million base. It implies that there's no you know. Commitment and guaranteed dollars for Josh Norman. So you know. He's reuniting with Sean McDermott. Who is defensive coordinator at Carolina for the four that he was a panther Tr- Davis White is a phenomenal young corner in the NFL. They've got a really good defense with some really talented players. And I think they're a good team. I think they're going to continue to get better. Getting Josh Allens GonNa Continue to get better And I think a single Terry Is going to continue to get better? He was a guy that I loved coming out of Florida Atlantic. He played so well for them. Buffalo's got a good football team. I think they do now. I don't know if Josh Norman is GONNA fit but he's GonNa get an opportunity to play on a team. That's going to contend for something next year certainly contend for a playoff spot next year. And he's with a coach that is familiar with him Kendall Fuller Ben.

"terps" Discussed on The Kevin Sheehan Show

"Thought it was a good set for Maryland but I have to tell you that before the game I was nervous and during the Game Man. I was nervous. I wanted this so badly for mark. I wanted it so badly for Maryland And and when that score got to fifty six fifty three in the second half Erin I could feel the entire arena tightening up. I don't know if you felt the same way or not but it. There was an angst in the arena. They were looking at that point. You're you're considering the possibility possibility of three losses to end the season. They haven't played wealthy end of seasons most years under turgeon And they would have thrown away that big ten title with a two game lead fraud. I don't know they had a two game lead for like two weeks felt like And it was slipping away But they were the better team They never gave up that lead the extended from there and they won and they deserve to celebrate. This was a very good regular season. It was a satisfying regular season for me as Maryland Fan. That league that they played in this year was excellent. You know big ten people say best year. Top to bottom ever for that particularly in Maryland won fourteen games and they take home a piece of the league title. I was listening to Mike Decor see last night On the big ten network Mike is a hall of fame. College Basketball Writer Sporting News for years. He said On the show the big ten show that followed the final game of the year last year. Last night I wou and Illinois. He said this year's big ten was the best season a conference has ever had top to bottom. He's never covered a league Was that tough top to bottom And look you know I underst- I understand what's coming up and I understand what Maryland has to do in March. You know I've said this before I can say on one hand Mark Turgeon and believe which I do that. Mark tergence a good coach and I can also say but he hasn't achieved enough in the post season. Those two things are true. They're mutually exclusive of one another. You know there are a lot of good coaches that haven't had the tournament success. Gary Williams was stuck on sweet sixteen for a long time and he was criticized heavily for it before. Getting it going but this regular season For this particular team they were a really good team. They were well coached. I'm during the course of the season they had monster wins Turgeon had more big wins the season that he's had in his previous eight years the win at Illinois on a Friday night In early February was a monster win. It was for first place. Illinois fans were lined up all day long was the toughest ticket for an Illinois Home Basketball. Game in fifteen years The win at Michigan State was memorable for Anthony. Cowan's finish outscoring the SPARTANS in the Breslin Center. You know a fourteen nothing to end the game. Cowan eleven nothing by himself. That was an epic big time. Clutch win the win. At Minnesota from seventeen down with the more cell shot was crazy. You know Maryland came up big in clutch moments this year. You can talk about the the Saturday night loss to Michigan State at home and the rutgers loss I again I'll repeat. I think they had one bad loss all year. One loss that they shouldn't have taken all year long and that was at Seton Hall in December when Seton Hall to best players were out mark. Turgeon was under pressure this year In part because they were ranked you know high early. They had some personnel changes in in December which changed the dynamic of the team. It took some time. They had a brutal loss at Iowa and they had a painful loss it Wisconsin and it was after that loss against Wisconsin. Where a lot of people a lot of the fan base said enough of turgeon all right. They were ready to move on encouraging. Felt this all season long. You know he's still feeling it and he said after the game it was like a thousand pound gorilla had been taken off his back and I would suggest to him that that is true in the moment. But it's a temporary thing because I know the Maryland Basketball Fan Base. Very very well what he does. The rest of this month matters more to them. You know and I understand that. I'm not you know I think that's justified. Feeling doesn't mean that they shouldn't be satisfied with winning this particular league this year but the pressure that he talked about was there they had lost yesterday. It would have been a three game losing streak they would have blown a regular season title One that was that was expected for the last three weeks or a month I know he felt the pressure. The players felt it that lost a rutgers was really criticized by so many fan base in so many people in the media Many in the media who have no idea what they're watching. I had one guy insist to me that that because Maryland was ranked. Rutgers wasn't that it was by definition a bad loss. I mean Erin. I understand the difference between the Associated Press Writers and then the people in Vegas who make the lines right one group actually really understands the game and the other group doesn't know it at all. Right records You know as I mentioned one at purdue. They're going to be a tough out. I think in the tournament I had another guy told me that rutgers rutgers playing so poorly and that you know essentially got healthy against Maryland. That wasn't true. They had lost some games. But they're all games that they were in and had a chance to win. They had a nine point. Lead in the second. Half Against Michigan at home and Michigan rallied. And that's their only home loss of the year anyway. You know the Minnesota Game I had somebody told me after that night or when they lost a rutgers they were lucky to beat a with Minnesota. They should be on a four game losing skid. Well A DIDN'T LOSE TO MINNESOTA AND BE IF YOU've watched Minnesota this year you know how capable they are. They have a lottery pick on their team they are. They could be a tough out this weekend. They beat who they beat yesterday to finish off the regular season. They scored one hundred seven point yesterday. Minnesota did was in Nebraska or northwestern actually must've been Nebraska 'cause northwestern be Penn state on Saturday Yeah Nebraska Yeah Nebraska's terrible But still they scored one hundred seven points. Yes in a game Tergence new the closing stretch which included four games in ten days with three of them on the road could be a problem. It could trip him up a little bit. He knew it And it did it. Did trip him up a little bit but yesterday was the perfect setup for them and you know being home senior day. Plenty arrest is mentioned And they needed they regained some Mojo. They pretty much took over at the five six minute mark of the first staff five to six minutes into the game. Excuse me never trailed after that. They had a Michigan very well. Scouted had a couple of wrinkles. Offensively defensively or offensively. They really went after Xavier. Simpson at times. Who is an incredible offensive point guard? I watching Savior Simpson in the pick and roll and the in the in really the high ball screen game But he's a liability defensively at times in the turps took advantage of that. Merrill was ready defensively. They took care of business with with a really good all round game. They had that one stretch. You know that got fifty six fifty three and they made shot yesterday. You know a lot of those wide open shots that they couldn't knock down at rutgers. They made them I allen wiggins. Okay Erica and Erin. Wiggins couldn't make shots open shots. Lots of them at rutgers and they made shots yesterday twelve of eighteen combined for the two of them from the floor six of eight from behind the ARC combined they reach three or four from beyond the arc at rutgers. They went five for eighteen into for ten on threes. So you get You get the defensive effort you've come to expect from Maryland and get people to make shots. They're very dangerous now. They have to defend in rebound. That is really what they do. They're GONNA have a scoring drought in this tournament. Coming up okay. But they can overcome a scoring drought with really good defense and rebounding and yesterday they played good defense rebounded while I think. The only gave up three offensive rebounds in the entire game. They protected the ball. They didn't turn it over and they made shots so anyway It was a good day for them and it was a good confidence builder. Hope for hopefully eric I l and Aaron Wiggins who are two key pieces you know coming up in this tournament now want to talk about Anthony Cowan for a moment art Cowan finished up his home Maryland career. Yesterday he ranks. First on Maryland's career list for made free throws He broke that record yesterday. He's the only guy that's ever started one hundred thirty consecutive games. That's a school record. He is seventh on the scoring list. Fifth on the assistnace than third on the three pointers made list. His Jersey. Banner is GonNa Hang in the rafters. There's no doubt about it no doubt about that. The only reason I have a doubt. And it's not a huge doubt but with pretty much everybody in the path to zoos up in the rafters right now. They won something individually. They won conference player of the year. They you know. Set some so record or an. Ap All American. And I don't know that Cowan will get any of those individual awards. The one exception to that Steve Blake but of course deflate was part of the championship team. Which I'm going to assume Cowan's not part of but obviously that can change so that'd be my one hesitation there is he doesn't have that one thing to what. Steve was St Francis. First TEAM ALL AMERICAN. I think so. Yeah what about Adrian? Branch see a first team. He was Adrian Branch. I think is Jersey. I don't I don't think it is. I think that's a big what about Baxter's Baxter was was his jersey up there. I Dunno vistors. I'll I'll look at the exactly. Who's up then? Let me let me let me mention this. Because where I was headed was sort of a discussion in sort of the the same category I think his Jersey Banners GonNa hang in the rafters at some point here in the whenever they do that. I don't know when they do that. But on the list of Marilyns all time great players. He climb meatless this year. But we're being objective in fair. He's behind a minimum of ten to twelve players. On Maryland's all time list in Maryland has a hell of an all time list of college basketball players right but the list starts with Len bias. One Dixon John. Lucas Buck Williams Albert King. Tom McMillan Graves Vasquez. Walt Williams Steve Blake and Joe Smith. Okay that's ten that's A. That's a formidable group of ten that he's not busting into okay. We can debate by the way the back half of that. I can tell you as a longtime Maryland fan would I would never be convinced. Otherwise on is that your top. You know your top three or bias Dixon and and I'd put him in that order by one Dixon to Lucas three. Personally I'd have buck in my top four and then for number five it's it's a conversation of Macmillan and Albert King and and even gravest starts to push into that conversation some of you might have lent Len Elmore in that conversation Joe Smith even though he only played two years but but he started to put Cowan into the conversation with names like Johnny Roads and Adrian Branch in Lonny Baxter and St Francis because it was just one year..

"You want it you need it. It's what everyone's talking about the Kevin Sheehan show. Now here's Kevin and that would float Eric Goes. Bill gets the rebound from the water. Exits at boxing. Board has got fifteen is at three point land Tom. The carrots are by ten again. Johnny Holliday Chris. Knocking Walter Williams yesterday on the I told you so game. I'm I'm not going to do that. Everybody out there but I felt really good about this game as you know. After the rutgers game I thought and I pretty much guaranteed a win and a healthy win against Michigan. I'm going to admit that I did not bet Maryland. Yesterday I was actually concerned before the game because all of the action yesterday was on Maryland minus. The for you were there. I was there a lot. More COMING UP ON MARYLAND's big ten regular season championship It's a try championship. I I guess you would describe it with Michigan. State in Wisconsin also sharing in the big ten regular season title. But it wasn't a cop. It was an accomplishment. It was and they're very excited and they cut down nets but March Is a long month and they have to make sure that it is a long month for them or People will tend to forget the this recent accomplishment even though it was a tough one. We'll get to all of that here shortly. So we're sitting in studio here doing the podcast and it'll just be Aaron in yours truly today Doing the show because we got a lot of Maryland. We got a lot of Redskins we got a lot of NFL stuff. But I'm sitting here and I'm watching just the stock market tumble in a way that we haven't seen in a while. I mean it's down six to seven percents somewhere in that range right now as were recording. This I mean there's panic around the globe About Corona virus. You know I don't know what to make of it personally. I mean I think a lot of people in a lot of you out. There were like you know it's elderly people you know it's just going to get sick if you get it even and you probably won't get it and it's nothing to be worried about the flus much scarier all of that. I think there's a lot of unknown about this thing right now. There are a lot of people that you know. Even experts aren't really sure where this thing goes from. Here I have no idea because I'm hardly an expert on this stuff but it is an odd time. We're living in right now. This has been an odd week week. A half the market tumbling the stock market tumbling the economy is going to be impacted. Significantly you know in some areas are some businesses some products that are going to thrive and others. You would not want to be in the cruise ship industry right now. You can get a flight for next to nothing right now. Going almost anywhere Certainly Travel Tourism In this country is grinding to a halt To a certain degree we went out to dinner. Saturday night Erin and I was expecting when we went out to dinner that the restaurants would be somewhat empty. That people were a boy avoiding sort of large gatherings and in Bethesda it was packed like every place was packed with their normal. Wait time of you know depending on where you are thirty minutes to an hour and a half And it we. Nobody seemed to have an issue with it but I think it's definitely impacting A lot of places and and so I look. We don't know where this is going but yesterday was an odd day. Because you know you've got all the fears of the corona virus and and it's dominating the headlines Right now and then I'm driving back from the Maryland game yesterday and I don't know if you experience this Erin but did you see the smoke haze that that developed over a lot of the area. Yesterday afternoon there was a controlled. Fire A controlled burn in. Virginia think down by Quantico and as we were coming around the beltway back from College Park at three fifteen three thirty whatever time it was There was a haze smoky haze that was basically enveloping. The the entire beltway and we roll down the windows. They were extorted down already because he was a beautiful day and it was. Smoke was clearly smoke and we were like y God there must be a huge fire and then it's like corona virus in here comes wildfires. What's next but it turns out I turned on. Gop and they immediately were reporting that much of the area was experiencing smoky conditions from this controlled fire with a win. That was blowing northward. that That created this last night on local weather. They were showing on radar. You could see the smoke on radar being picked up. Cov- coming through much of sort of in close Montgomery County Bethesda. Chevy Chase McLean Vienna on the other side of the river through the actual city itself. I think some of the outer suburbs. You know A North West northern in western Montgomery County may have been spared but anyway Then I started thinking about this earlier and this is what I wanted to get to with. All of the corona talk and the weirdness of sort of The last couple of weeks. What happens if one player on one of these college basketball teams in March madness bracket would we? We will be sitting here week from today with brackets in hand. What if one player on any of these teams get to test positive for corona virus? Because you know the incubation period I guess like there's a couple of days before you're absolutely sure that nobody else has it. You know on the team or in that community. And you know there's the lots of quarantine you know going on. I mean would that team potentially be out of the tournament? I what what happens in the NBA. If you get one player and you end up having you know a game or to reschedule the NCAA. Tournament is A. You know if if you're if you're not sure about how infected your team is and you've got to wait three four days. What if it's right before the first round starts I mean I think we are headed towards some weird all time epic things happening that you know years from now will say remember the Corona Virus Tournament. You know we could be heading towards that. What would I don't know the answer to this? What if one player on Duke's team let's just pick duke has the example and one player on? I don't want to. I don't want to jinx it for anybody else would have one player on. Duke's team gets corona virus and then everybody else's test but they say you know what sometimes it takes a couple of days here before these players will test. Are they going to let those players go out and play other teams? I be hard to not. I mean at this point of your coach. Don't you pretty much just quarantine your players? Yeah I mean but you know these young what I've noticed in in It's true with my my boys. They're not concerned about this because they understand that they're not going to die from exactly. That's why as a coach. I feel like at this point as a coach. You're telling them don't go to class. Don't do anything you're GonNa stay in the gym. You can stay around. We're not letting. What if the coach gets it? You know what if I mean you know in? Is it going to surprise you at this point if a key player or a coach or somebody in March madness or in the NBA or in the NHL or in any of the sports that we're watching right now it gets test you know test positive for this and it'll be interesting to see what the team reaction with the League reaction with the CDC what the National Institutes Health? What with all these people say is the right process. I was just thinking about that the other day to whether or not that would potentially rule a team in all of the players that have spent time in the locker room. You know with it at practice playing with this player For you know the last couple of weeks whenever the player was infected whether or not it would render the Tina d three tournament right with Johns Hopkins. Yeah they're not letting fans they're not letting fans but the the Sheva school which was like the powerhouse in that region the hotel they were booked at the because there was a case around the school they wouldn't the hotel wouldn't let them come in with their booking. This just throwing it out there. I'm sure many of you have thought about this. And maybe I'm overreacting to the possibilities and actually I'm not even overreacting to the possibilities. Because I don't know what would happen. I. I'm totally in the dark. I would expect That there would be a the possibility at least that it would take some time to test all the other players for you know the potential Sort of Virus to show up. I know there is somewhere between three and five days. I believe if you've been exposed to somebody with it that you get tested for those three to five days before you can be ruled out from completely having it I. I wonder what would happen. I think we got some weird stuff coming up here All right I want to start with Maryland in their win over Michigan yesterday. so. I know that I was very confident about this I was. I really thought that the last several games were really part of were the results of their last four games where they lost three or four. Were really a result of a lot of different things that I went through in the last year during those games. I mean the schedule for games. In ten days the road games against really good teams can good teams at home against teams. That were desperate. It's Cetera et Cetera et CETERA. And you know a lot of Maryland. Fans were panicking Aaron you I'd put you in that category to a certain degree you weren't you you you were. You're losing confidence and I'm not saying that you won't be rewarded with your loss of confidence when this postseason starts. I just felt like this setup specifically for the rutgers game wasn't good and that they would lose that game and that the setup for the game yesterday was much better and they would win that game and they would get a share of the big ten titled. Sucks that Michigan State won. That was expected although actually the final score. That game was not indicative of how well Ohio State played. Ohio states can be dangerous In the upcoming month great because they don't play they missed it. They almost had to play Ohio state. And I know which would have been a Holtman in urgent urging you at nine. Pm Right would have been awesome at nine pm nine pm part But the What was I going to say I? I lost my train of thought. There that I just felt like yesterday was a much better setup for Maryland and that coming home with two days off to prepare for the first time in two weeks Against a team that played on Thursday night less time Senior Day for them A game that they really you know sort of needed to get their Mojo back. They needed to clinch a piece of the regular season title. Michigan had been on a roll. Recently it wasn't a game that they had to have it wasn't going to significantly change their postseason Situation and I know they've lost some games recently but you know since they've gotten healthy. They've been a much different team much different team when they lost those games. You know back in January. They lost four or five in a row. Something like that. They didn't have They didn't have livers They didn't they were banged up on that team. They played much better recently They've got wins over Michigan State recently in at Rutgers. They're the only team Michigan to have won at rutgers this year by the way rutgers beat purdue on Saturday on road at purdue team. It's tough at home. Had Beaten Virginia at home. Had Blown Out Michigan State at home and desperately needed the game to Enhance their overall Tournament profile which now looks like they're out pre purdue had won they would have been sitting there on the bubble and now they're on the wrong side of it. Rutgers won that game but anyway I thought it was a good set for Maryland but I have to tell you that before the game I was nervous and during the Game Man. I was nervous. I wanted this so badly for mark..

"Use My Promo Code Kevin DC. Okay Ron Rivera spoke yesterday. He actually did a press conference at the NFL scouting combine and then did You know a media scrum so there were. There was a lot of Ron Rivera yesterday. A lot more Ron Rivera than there was Kyle Smith From the day before but the conversation a lot of it dealt with quarterback and dealt with Dwayne Haskins in woke up early this morning or you were watching the NFL scouting combine at any point yesterday. After Ron Rivera spoke you know the whole this. The the whole conversation about the redskins and what they're gonNA do at number two and what they're gonNA do at quarterback and what they think of Dwayne Haskins is a national conversation right now Erin and I just watching before we got on the phone you know Mel Kiper on. Espn's you know. I take you know what are the Redskins GonNa do at number two in Kuyper said if to what is there assuming. Cincinnati takes Joe Borough. And you don't think that it's a lock that Dwayne Haskins is going to be great. You take two period you know he believes the two is also sort of a lock to be a great quarterback as well I WANNA play in order Some of these Ron Rivera soundbites from yesterday on Dwayne Haskins. The first part of it just deals with you know what he's seen from Dwayne so far in the off season well I think one of the things that you know the winds done is he's been around. I mean you know. Actually what's the first thing you thought of after hearing that? I mean that that doesn't mean anything.

"Words if they if they if they leave with a whimper no doubt yeah like if you know in a second round Game Butler beats him by fifteen or something like that yes that would not that would not be good but you know it's a funny about the NCAA TOURNAMENT. It's true every year in this one and done thing matchups man basketball really is a sport of match ups. You you could get you know we see sevens beat twos and sixers beat threes and even eighths beat ones all the time and it's all about match ups and styles and you know part of what has me optimistic about Maryland. The tournament is just the grind that they've gone through in the big ten and the number of really good defensive teams in particular that they have faced. You know I think most leagues don't have as much defensively night in and night out as what you face in the big ten and I think if that's true Maryland will get it going in the blow a couple of people out early you know before they get to a real you know a legit Competitive situation it might. The point is it might actually seem easier for them in the tournament than it has for the last three months. Anyway Anything else on that Bay was. It was thrilling last night that they that they won that game. I cannot wait for Saturday night which you're not going to be back. You'll be in Florida but it's GonNa be I would say right now. It's the biggest home game since they've been in the big ten Aaron Yeah. I'd agree with that. Even though Michigan State's only ranked twenty fourth. I mean they can basically Clinton it's going to be there. Espn game day. Is there a eight eight? Pm that means all day Liquid refreshment getting ready for this one. "The diamond stone team but but they would have food than anybody out. That was that was that was dysfunctional team. I think yes it's true. It's true that that team. I think he was frustrated with you know on that team. That's also the team that went to the sweet sixteen in had guys like Mellow Trimble and Rashid souilem on his transfer year stone was the problem on that team. I don't think everybody else tuned him out. I think stone was the problem on that team. It also helps when you face to wii in the undressed stood. Yeah yeah they had to eat but they also won twenty eight games that year. Whatever it was you know and were ranked in ten the entire year. Would that seem more talented than the seam talent wise? Maybe but I don't think but I don't think that they have I don't think anybody on that team is better than sticks Smith and You Know Mellow Trimble was an extraordinarily talented player. Anthony Cowan's proving over four years. You know we probably missed out on seeing something special from mellow in his junior and senior year you know. Feed stated extra two years Yes Cowan I think is certainly. Will he certainly exceeded mellows career in terms of results in? And just you know take the quantitative out. I think most Maryland fans would say anthony. Kaun was a better college player. The Mellow Trimble which earned it's close. It's close mellow had more big moments. I think Cowan's had some big. He's coming he's knowing. Meller DIDN'T HAVE ONE. Michigan state moment like he had was that nobody had to Cowan Michigan state comeback moment but melody hit that three at Wisconsin Michigan State. Yeah Yeah Look Mellow Trimble. In many ways save mark turns job. Yes you know. I'm if it mellow mellows freshman year they get to the tournament and they're they're in a battle in the second round to get to the sweet sixteen against West. Virginia Mellow didn't get hurt in that game. They probably beat West Virginia. One of the reasons he got hurt though is the way West Virginia place. Which by the way I love the way Huggins coaches that team. One last thing just from last night's game because you know. I'LL NITPICK A. I thought he did a phenomenal job again. switching defenses The right match ups more sell on car was a really good matchup for them. The zone you know. He didn't stay in it too long enough for them to get used to it and for them to get comfortable with it. He's got multiple zones he goes to. He ran some really good sets in key. Spots ran a great play for wiggins when they were down eight to get an open three ran a really good play for sticks to get the three that he missed. Aaron at seventy two to sixty nine I still personally have an issue. It's the less than three second you know scenario for me which is if there are less than three seconds left and the other team's gotta go the entirety of the court. They're at they're they're throwing it in you know from their own bait own baseline in the baskets on the other end and you got to put somebody on the ball. And he doesn't do it. He believes that five guys guarding four is better than having four guys guard for with the Fifth Guy. Being a defender on the inbounds pass. My belief personally is if you put that seven to guide show Mariel on the floor to guard the inbounds pass. They're going to have to throw it into the back court. They're not going to be able to throw it accurately into the front court and so somebody catches it in the back court with under three seconds in there. There was one point nine last night. It's going to be a heave from sixty feet. It's got to beat you you know whereas when you don't put somebody on the ball now they've got the ability to freely throw the ball from the baseline all the way down the court and potentially get a reasonable shot to beat you which they did they throw it to Daniel Otero. He caught it I think he he may have been fouled on the catch by sticks And he turned around and he had a twenty footer to win the game. He missed it. You know and Maryland one but I'd rather somebody even it from sixty feet. Then shooting a turnaround jumper from twenty feet. That's just a fair this with your buddy mark. I haven't sh sh that's on my list to share with him over the summer. 'cause last summer we we. We are on the golf course. Scott Nigh Presented our concerns over pace of play right right which yeah. And how did he respond with? Are you kidding me seriously? Like but he had a great sense of humor about it and and it was funny but Yeah I think next summer or this spring I'm going to say about the you know under three seconds. Why you put somebody on the ball. I know what he's GonNa say say he's going to say. I like to set my defense with five guys guarding four. You know I think. That's an advantage The problem is is that there's a better chance GONNA get a makeable shot Then not if you put somebody on the ball but whatever They won the game. I'm happy about it really happy. I it gets them close to. So here's the last thing. Actually on Maryland in this is for Erin more than three. Utah me but you can chime in so if they win the big ten title okay. That is the first true notch on his belt. As a coach at Maryland. Yes right I mean he has it with anything all right winning this not only that winning this league in this particular year even if you don't think the national championship team is in this league. If you think Kansas Baylor is better than anybody the big ten has that's fine and that may be true but top to bottom. There's not been a league anywhere close to the big ten. If they win the big ten. That is a huge huge win notch and his belt for turgeon for me as Maryland. Fan Sounds like for you too Erin. So the next notch would be not the big ten tournament because I want to advance in the big ten tournament about win a game in the ten. Well they've won games in the big ten tournament just not the last two years. Right is two years. They've they've won two big ten tournament Games since they've gone to. Yeah well they had the double by in those two years and they got to the semi finals there in the semi finals. The big ten tournament their first two years was both of the first. Yes okay. Yeah and they lost a Michigan State. I think in both of those games I think so anyway The next notch is how far does he have to get in the tournament too if you combine big ten tournament and this far all right fill in the blank in the NC Double A. Tournament? Then he gets a three year pass two year pass to. Yeah I guess it depends what you mean. Well National Championship gives them a lifetime. Passer five four gives them a lifetime. Pat Okay so what does he need for to your pass in addition to a big ten tournament. I'd say again. It would depend on how it happens. You know who they beat. I'd say for complete pass realistically. I think a sweet sixteen would be solid. I think an elite eight was shut up a lot of people. That's what it is. It's elite eight. That's the answer Aaron. You got the answer right well. Because they're going to be a one or two seat if they win the big ten regular season. So based on seating they should get to the elite eight. I mean you.

"You know eighty year old? Bob Arum this was this first of all. He's got a good voice. It's got a really good voice I can't wait to watch him fight again he. He talked last week leading up to the fight that he was going to lick the blood off of deontay wilder. Deontay wilder bled a lot during that fight out of his ear and at one point in a clench up against the ropes. I mean fury started licking wilder. I don't know if the tongue ever got to the blood and the shoulder. But you couldn't really tell from the angle but there's something about this dude that so likable that so much fun to watch. I forget specifically Tommy. Really bashed fury on Friday. He really went after wilder. And I can see it. You know. Wilder is a one punch. Dude there've been guys like him before. Tommy was not impressed with wilder was not impressed with him. As a boxer I am impressed with fury. He was a bigger man. Forty pound difference to seventy two thirty one and by the way just the leaning on him and and the the I mean you could tell wilder from the jump and less connected on one of those punches had no chance to win the fight. This is going to get me to watch more boxing like if he fights Joshua next. I'm going to pay for that one. If he has another fight with wilder. I will watch wilder. You know is going to take the third fight. It's too much money not to take the third fight but based on what we saw. Saturday night Aaron he'd have no chance. I bet fury Saturday night. I got him at plus one tent. It was short and everybody kept telling that wilder was GONNA win the fight so I just want against all my friends if they fight again. He'll be a significant favourite. They've already put it out. I believe minus two fifty for fury if he if he were to fight wilder. That's the next fight. What's the chances that it's Joshua? That is the next that seems. It seems almost like a fifty fifty proposition right now. They put that up. I think fury minus three hundred against Joshua A. You know there's just something about it when the heavyweights are are exciting. And there's there's there's a guy there you know enticing fury's a guy right now the gypsy king okay. He is entertaining. He's big. He's strong any can fight. He can legitimately fight I thought it was very interesting before the fight when I say interesting I thought it was really cool to see Mike Tyson. Lennox Lewis and Vander Holyfield all in the ring being honored before the fight. Tyson's got gray hair. Man He's graying Holyfield looked good. Lennox Lewis is really good on the broadcast. We did have to lit listened to test a tour on this call on Saturday night I you know he wasn't terrible in boxing. It's just you know it's a big event. I know it's not hbo man you know what go out and get. Lampley to do it anyway. Lamp lease the best ever. I was very entertained by that fight. I thought it was a hell of a of a night A lot of electricity. You know that came through on the pay per view And you know I guess part of it was. We were waiting for wilder to see if he'd throw one haymaker. You know in connect but he never had a shot in his corner throwing the towel in. It may have been the weird time to do it because it didn't seem like the worst position that that wilder had been in but I think they're corner was looking for some fight in him and if they didn't see it they're gonna end that thing and save him because he could have been seriously injured. Yeah hennessy known life coming out of them at that point you could. You could argue. They should have thrown in an earlier. But yeah that was there was nothing happening there. At that point he had thrown one big shot right before that and then he got up against the ropes. Took two shots and they weren't the biggest shots from fury all night but The the towel came flying in and they said Nothing he wasn't happy about it. You know he said he wanted to go out on his shield He would've gone out on a stretcher. Had it had it lasted much longer. A Tyson fury. What an impressive impressive performance. That was on Saturday night. All right. Let's get back to the Maryland. Ohio state game and what's to come here for the TURPS. Jefferson is a friend. He does a great job covering Maryland. Sports Inside MD SPORTS DOT COM. Follow him on twitter at Jeff. Underscore Erminie R. M. A. N. N. First of all we Aaron and I talked about earlier I thought it was a good college basketball game yesterday. I thought Maryland like you know it's one of those losses not totally unexpected. They were an underdog they fought with their two stars playing well and being in foul trouble what was your takeaway from the game. That's exactly right Kevin. I mean if there's any anything you can call a good loss at this point of the season that's good luck to you. Know you have your two stars at the same time. Having their first. I don't know if it was a dud but pretty much a dead from from count and and sticks After both have been playing so well you know you have some tough calls. Obviously going against you and the other team shoots lights out. And he's still a pretty close game on the road against a team. That's really tough at home. You know really good team. So that's a pretty solid loss. You have to be pretty happy. I think if you're mark turgeon with with what you got from You're supporting cats too. So there's there were some positive signs. Yeah I mean it was odd to see Cowan and sticks off you know Ohio state played. Well they played good defense One of the things I mentioned earlier and I want your thoughts on. It is clearly decided. Yesterday was the day that he was going to change things up a little bit. He played Keam Heart. Early hadn't played in a while Played Mariel for significant minutes in the first half. Cowan and sticks both on the bench before foul trouble for about a three to four minute stretch were Maryland. Went from down four up to and plane without those two guys and I. I don't know if he was asked about it in his post-game Presser I haven't watched it yet. I'm going to go back and watch it later. but I thought it was an effort for him and a a a A. I think it was it was. It was a specific Intentional decision to try to get his bench. Confident developed the bench in a different way. Yesterday what did you think? Yeah I think that's a really good observation. He wasn't asked about it in the press conference. But you know he's. He's increasingly spoken about the bench and is concerned. There you can tell it's really keeping him up at night that he doesn't have any Really productive guys except for an Wiggins. Obviously coming off the bench so I think you know so often lately when he's put in the bench guys. They've quickly lost whatever lead they had. Or you know Maryland's gone down by a few points. And he said the quickly sub the stars back in so. I think he was just trying to ride that out. And you know because they weren't losing ground for the first time in a while with Mary. All those guys in there so he's trying to ride that out and see what they do and give them confidence like you said because you know sticks and we've seen plenty of teams make the runs. Sick deep. Duke obviously is notorious for it but it's a scary proposition going into March without much of a bench. So that's exactly what that was. I think with Hakeem Hart Tyrrell Smith Kind. I took the job from hardback around Christmas of the Fifth Guard but has really struggled offensively One for his last thirteen or fourteen from the floor. Just can't seem to hit a shot. Excuse me played well defensively. But you know they're just looking for a little extra offensive punch though you know who knows what they'll do. Their hard didn't really do much to establish himself. Put up a pretty bad shower when he came in so quickly to immediately. Yeah you can tell you on the court and a while he's radio at that thing go So you know. That's not that vital. It's like an eight minute per game spot but if you could get a guy who leaves it open shop there once in a while. That would be helpful. He's got some In watching him from earlier this year I think he's got some decent basketball IQ and get some length. But so does Smith like Smith's. I think Smith is actually a really good defender And you know I mentioned Erin earlier. Turjan talked about getting guys confident and getting guys who were struggling getting their confidence back wiggins and I al in particular have had some streaky. You know moments at best and couple of stretches where they weren't playing well at all and I think some of what has been working on showed up yesterday with wiggins and I- Allah absolutely. That's been is focused for several months now. That confidence talk really started when they went inside slump in in December. And I don't know if you know they had a professional talk with urgent or where it came from but it was. It was Really Abrupt and constant talk about getting confidence getting in a work. You know the thing. That's what turned it around. Team went on that nine game winning streak and turn their whole season around there after they were. Oh and four on the road. You Win your next four on the road and play much better. And you know. With wiggins and Allah they've been so inconsistent for much of the years especially. I Ala with his shot. That if you can get game yesterday we had a career high twenty. I Al had sixteen if you get anything like that from those two and fix and Cowan. Our playing their typical game. You could probably buy some tickets for you. Know I don't want jinx it for you but a deep run in the tournament. Yeah there there are parts of both of those guys that I love. I think I al is actually a real crafty player. I think he's good. And if he's confident and shooting it well He's a big help and I look. I don't know if wiggins is GONNA come back next year. He's not a first rounder. As we know who knows what'll happen in March. But he's the guy next year if he comes back that I could see easily averaging eighteen a game for this team you know. He's he's gotten better And he's he's very very capable. I wanted to ask you about Mariel. I think I asked Aaron this earlier in the show So he gets. I'm assuming the ten minutes he played yesterday's the most he's played. I don't know if that's I think that's true. It may not be maybe played Early on more He is coordinated. He can run. He's got good hands. Is he coming back next year? What's the deal with him because he's got a lot a lot of upside potential like I mean really at that size with his coordination in hands and feet in the ability to run he could be a really good top Flight College Basketball Player? Yeah there's a reason. He was number one center in the country years ago and then obviously the injuries derailed him Yeah I would be shocked. Didn't come back next year. He's obviously nowhere near ready for the NBA. Came in with a long term plan You know of using this year to get better. Get healthy and anything you get from him. This year is really just house money but he did look better. He knew he was moving pretty well. You know it's really just gonNA depend on who they're playing this year. You know tergence dead which I think everybody kind of probably ask that. He'll play against teams that have slower paces and traditional big men like Ohio state. I think they're you know with West. And then also there like two hundred seventy s in the country and Adjusted Tempo so yeah I mean he's clearly got the potential. There's just no telling you know it's still kind of a lottery ticket with him. You know if he's ever going to completely put it together and it's tough for a guy like that even with good agility for his size against so many of centers now because you're playing so many big men who are you know. Agile kind of pick and pop guys But you know he's gotTa be good for them next year because they really don't have a lot else in the frontcourt now they don't All right Let's talk about Wednesday night. Erin I talked about this earlier that you lose Ohio state I I I describe it as it's not a bad loss And it was a very good college game and maybe a lot of good came out of it because of I allen wiggins and the fact that they you know they it's a three point game with five and a half to go you know with with nobody playing well and people in foul trouble and a lot of questionable officiating at the end at Cetera With that said you know you're playing at Minnesota they're capable. They got a big guy. Plays a little bit like sticks..

"Super Mature And just you know in so many ways people think is going to be a superstar But there are some receivers out there that the redskins could take advantage of free agency. Not all of whom will cost a lot of money first of all. It's GONNA be interesting. See what the cowboys do with. Amari Cooper and Amari Cooper would get a big big number so I'm not. I'm not sitting here saying that. Amari Cooper is the guy in the redskins should think about Amari Cooper. I'm just telling you that from a From a wide receiver standpoint. He's at the top of the list if the cowboys actually let him hit free agency. Aj Green you know. His best days are probably in the rear view. You know and there's the the issue as to whether or not he can stay healthy. He's going to get a deal. Though is going to get a good deal. Emmanuel Sanders traded the forty niners remember prior to the deadline. He's a free agent. You know I can't imagine that San Francisco doesn't want Emmanuel Sanders back. He really made their offense more dynamic and more explosive. Then there's a guy like Robbie Anderson in New York. I'M A fan. He's dynamic. Is it as a as a home? Run Threat as a stretch the field threat You know there are other guys. I mean you're not gonna you're not thinking about a Larry Fitzgerald North Fitzgerald thinking about here. Devin funchess is available for basically. Nothing he didn't really produce for the colts because of injuries after signing a year deal he was in Carolina I wonder whether or not the redskins will be thinking about a veteran. Free agent to go with this mix. I'd be very surprised if the redskins don't add a receiver in free agency again. I'm not suggesting they go all out with big money. If they're going to spend big money on a pass catcher my preference would be that. It's on Austin Hooper. You know as long as they don't have to trade for Hooper in the event that Atlanta tags him and I think that that's a pretty good possibility. I'm also you know I would also be all in on Hunter Henry Too If the redskins wanted to spend big money they're more than it receiver. Let me also be really clear. I don't want them to spend big money on Eric Brown. I think that he is a frustrating player to watch. Because I think he's extraordinarily talented but I think he's inconsistent. I think he drops balls and he takes place off So I'm not in Hebron guy at all they missed on Olson as we know even though was a significant interest in and I for a guy that you know is going to be out there not nearly at the money you would think that Hooper and Henry Will cost but at wide receiver. It would not surprise me at the Redskins. Look to bring in a veteran guy. They don't have a veteran wide receiver. Right now uh offensively okay. You've a rookie quarterback. I mean second year but he'll be playing in the rookie games. Three second year wide. Receivers that you think you're going to contribute a slot guy in Trey Quinn. Who's in his second year and really hasn't amounted to much And then you've got you know potentially a you know more more more than potentially You you could have a new left tackle a new to new guards. That's all in play and a new tight end. I think they're going to look for some veteran influence offensively Adrian. Peterson's the veteran. He's the Guy. Right it's Adrian Peterson. And if Trent comes back there the guys I'm one other quick redskins topic here So they made the decision on Josh. Norman made the decision and Paul. Richardson made the decision Jordan. Reed made the decision to bring back or exceed the pick up the option on AP and there's a lot of decisions left to come. You know there's the Trent Williams and the Post reported on on Sunday on Saturday. Excuse me it was Saturday's paper and I wanted to read this quote because it just made me laugh out loud This was a piece by less carpenter and Mark Maskey. The Washington REDSKINS BELIEVE. There is a strong chance that seven time pro bowl left. Tackle Trent Williams will return to the team for the twenty twenty season. According to a person familiar with the organization's planning new coach Ron Rivera remains intent unconvincing Williams to rejoin the team according to that person who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to speak publicly on the matter. That just made me laugh so hard when I read it. Because do you know how how leaky this organization has been Aaron over the years? How many leaks there are in that building and some people and when I've had various pieces of information over the years people have always assumed Cooley I would never ever have Cooley as a source. A repeat what he's told me too good of a friend and I wanted the best for him and he hasn't really known much to be perfectly honest with you. Compared to some of the other people in the organization on that have been sort of sources are contacts. But you know this new culture and within a month you got the post saying new coach. Ron Rivera remains intent unconvincing Williams to rejoin the team according to that person who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the person is not authorized to speak publicly on the matter So they still got to have people in the organization that are leaking Bruce Allin was probably a leak. I know he was upset about people who were leaks. I know a lot of people were upset but at the same time they just never seem to be able to stop it but anyway. Trent is real simple trade or extent Eric flowers you gotta sign him or let him go is a free agent. Sheriff you've gotTa make the decision. Extend him sign him to do an extension franchise him tag and trade him or let him go Ryan. Kerrigan is real simple you either. Try to trade him release them or extend him to lessen the salary cap hit and have him is sort of a role player. You've got decisions on guys like Jon Bostick. I would not mind bostick. He's back. I think he's a veteran player. And a good player. I actually thought he was a very much sort of a coach on the field and I think he runs better than people give him credit for. I don't think Chris Thompson's back and I'm ready to move on from Quinton Dunbar. Three public. You know sort of Of of demands. And you know I. It was the demand for traitor. Release that it was. I didn't really mean it. Then he was last week with Jason Anderson again with the trade or release I'm moving on from Dunbar. I don't want I don't want a guy who goes public three times in a week and a half you know when we're trying to trade change a culture a lot of decisions coming up Lot of him. It's GonNa be very active here over the next couple of weeks Also real quickly on the NFL Players Association in the League. I don't know if you saw or followed I've been following this. I've been fascinated by it because I want there to be labor piece. I want the new. Cba place before the League. A calendar starts on March eighteenth. Because if it doesn't we're going to get into this probably nothing being done before. We get to deadlines next March. You know and I don't know why that is but the League apparently is not ready to negotiate any further in the thirty two. Nfl REPS held a conference call and Friday. Were set to vote but decided to postpone the vote because getting a two thirds majority on the NFL proposal apparently was a difficult prospect. Now they're gonNA apparently vote this week at the you know. It's indie combine week. Aaron if he didn't know that And so apparently according to ESPN their players. That don't WANNA seventeenth game. There are players that don't care about the seventeenth game and like the current deal and then they're players that want more for the seventeenth game The League at the League's proposal that they approved last week. Essentially provides the players with an increase in revenue. Share goes from forty eight percent to up to forty eight and a half percent with a seventeen game season. They're offering you know at least ninety thousand dollars in increases on minimum salaries increased pay for off season activities expand expanded pension eligibility a limit of sixteen days in pad so a reduction from where it was in training camp and mandated improvements to visiting team's locker rooms. The big part of this is the increase in revenue and by the way the overall revenue is going to increase not just the players percentage but the overall revenue with a seventeen game schedule schedule and the enhanced and expanded playoff format. I don't get what the players are missing here now. If this is all about negotiation with the more Smith fine but players that don't WanNa seventeenth game and are a really look players. Who Don't want to seventeenth game one more. That's one thing the League. I don't know how much room there is. And maybe the players will get more out of the League for the seventh game. The seventeenth game benefits everybody. It's a lot more money that goes right into the owner's pocket and the player's pockets with an increase in their revenue share all for a seventh game. One Act extra game. Is that really a safety issue? You Reduce A preseason game. You add a seventeenth game. What are we talking about? An additional three quarters of football for the entire season. I mean basically. It's like you qualified for the playoffs in a year where you didn't qualify for the playoffs but only played three quarters. Like it's just I would say that the NFL PA. If this is less about negotiation and more about convincing they need to do a better job of explaining to the players. That don't want this. Why they should want it simply put. It's more money for barely more football. It's not that hard not that hard at all. Let's get to the fight I loved it Saturday night. I bought the fight. I watched the fight. I loved the fight on Saturday night. I used to be the biggest boxing fan. I can tell you so much about so. Many fights so many fighters in the seventies and the eighties in the nineties in recent years. I'm I just haven't been into boxing at all so I'm watching on Saturday night and I'm watching Tyson fury a much bigger man a much. Better boxer absolutely dominant deontay wilder from start to finish and even though the fight was so one sided. I thought it was entertaining as hell. I thought fury was entertaining You know those of you that watched the fight. No that Dante wilder was knocked down early. Knocked down twice. Action in the fight knocked down early with a shot. The basically split his ear open. It did not break his ear drum lot of discussion about his eardrum being broken in this was calling causing balance issues in equilibrium issues as it turned out it was just a cut ear that required seven stitches he was. He was out on his feet multiple times in this fight. It got shut down by wilders corner in the seventh round Erin. They threw in the towel and that was actually the least threatening of all of the positions that he was in. You know at the time I thought there were a couple of times in the fourth fifth and sixth rounds where I thought the corner had to be considering stopping this fight because he was getting the shit kicked out of them. He looked like he was on the verge of being injured seriously. And I know he's got a big right hand in a big knockout punch. But that thing was one-sided dominant by a guy who Tommy said wasn't a good fighter on Friday. I see we're telling me saying about wilder do fury to me. Six nine to seventy you know can box can really box and has a shitload of charisma. He's a star man. He's a star and I cannot wait for his next fight. It'll that's GonNa be the interesting thing exactly do. They does wilder call for that third match. That's in the contract is GonNa Joshua. We'll we'll see what happens there. That's interesting but yeah no. There's no question that fury's Star. He's already starting to cross over into other things he did. Wwe At one point one shocked me if he pops up there again in the near future possibly even before the next fight but yeah there's no question and and for a a sport that needs a star taking away what fury you know. There's some controversies around fury. Let let's put it that way This is exactly what they needed a guy to go out there to look great to have that post you know the sing along at the end there and to do everything he could to star for those. That missed it at the end of the fight. Tyson fury in the middle of the ring sings. Don McLean's American Pie. Here's how.

"Caleb West ended up with three personal fouls Sticks in Maryland ended up with a lot more this urging talking about the way Caleb West and played he was allowed to be the bully offensive. I mean says this is just as like this. You're allowed to do that here. This bill so he he was allowed to the ball. He's a lot of the bullies so he was terrific scored around the basket. His defense was Great Wall Street. Defense recovery was really answered question. He's terrific all right across the board so that was charging after the game so little bit of whining. They're okay at the same time. I think. Maybe what he was really intending to say could have been perceived as a little bit of whining and Holtman the Ohio State Coach afterwards said quote. Mark said that about about Caleb Wesson being the bully offensively in Hoffman. Said to each his own his opinion can be his opinion. I thought Caleb was physical and well within the rules closed quote so the perception I think by you know Chris Oltman the Ohio state coach And maybe some Ohio state fans is. That was a little bit you know. Sorta whiny I think terge was trying to say was. He was allowed to play physically tonight and when he's allowed to be a physical beast then he's going to be really effective in you know the complimented him there at the end to in essence a good player But you know look for a potential rematch. The big ten tournament between these two teams with that quote. Sort of coming back. There's no doubt Ohio state. Got a good whistle a right? They had zero team fouls in the second with still like you know. Eleven minutes ten minutes or like ten minutes left in the game Maryland ended up with a lot more fouls now they were fouling late to put Ohio state at the free throw line in Ohio state. Made I think like seventeen of their last. Eighteen free throws or something to that effect but Ohio state was the better team yesterday. They shot it better. They may ten threes. They were eight for sixteen in the first half. The three point shooting was a significant difference. Maker Maryland's two best players had off nights and then got in foul trouble and then came the stretch of the game at the end. We're Cowan with four fouls is in the game. He hits a driving layup to make it sixty four to fifty nine At that point I duNNo. They're like three minutes left in the game. Something like that. Aaron somewhere around three minutes left in the game And he gets fouled on the play very clearly four minutes left in the game. Excuse me when he makes his driving layup gets fouled by Caleb Wesson. Now some say sticks push Caleb Wesson into Cowan. That's fine could call the foul sticks but it definitely should have been called on Western as well doesn't get called on Western. Cowan gets very frustrated. He yells at the REF and kicks his leg up very frustrated from the ground because he basically tackled on the play should have been going to the to the line for a free throw. Cut It to four with three fifty eight left and They didn't call it and instead they teed Cowan up for unsportsmanlike however when the pool reporter asked the official after the game was it for unsportsmanlike. For kicking his leg. they said No. It was just a technical foul for him. Arguing the call with an official which by the way I could see that the unsportsmanlike which it was told to the scores table in the moment was over officiating at it's at its worst right. It was an overreaction. Anthony Collins is star in college basketball. Okay he's one of the stars of the big ten and he got fouled. There's no doubt about it. He's allowed in a really good college basketball game. That was physical. He's allowed to just bark and be a little bit frustrated at the non call. Sorry I think he. I think he was allowed to do that. I think it was over. Reaction One oh one from the referee and it was a big missed call because instead of going to the free throw line with a chance to cut it to four they shoot two free throws and they get the ball so they're up seven and they get the ball Maryland. Still fought back still had a chance. Eric I ala had a drive to the bucket where he was fouled in the motion finished it and they called the foul on the floor bad miss and then really the miss of the game came with about. I don't know it was like it was made about a minute left in the game. Dante Scott got a Erica Allen. Got A rebound. They got out on the break. I Ala Hits Dante Scott. He he hits a driving layup gets fouled but part of the foul was the defender grabbing his jersey. And pulling it that's a flagrant or an intentional and they miss that call anyway. That's it on the complaining about the officiating. It Merrill didn't get a favorable call okay. They didn't at the same time they fought. They hung in there with their two best players in foul trouble with their two best players. Not playing. Well. I never liked to talk about a a loss is a you know what? That's a good loss. No but it's okay. I think to put it in this particular Way It wasn't a bad loss. Those two may be the same thing I just like. It said the other way because I don't want them to ever lose But losses can be described in in various ways. Loss is still a loss. It's never good but it wasn't bad that they lost that game. They played well. I think he learned a lot about his team. I think he learned a lot about his bench. I think wiggins and I al both probably got really some significant confidence out of that game and it wouldn't surprise me at all if Maryland bounces back on Wednesday night and Beats Minnesota on the road. Minnesota's not easy okay. Minnesota is is a team fighting for a potential birth in the NC Double A. They're definitely on the outside looking in right now. They have lost their last two at home to Iowa and Indiana. They haven't been nearly as good at home as as as Ohio state. Spin but I like Maryland's chances after losing Sunday to bounce back on Wednesday night where I guess they will be a favourite but only a slight favourite on Wednesday night right. Aaron probably three point favorite. Yeah get two or three. Yeah what did you think from the game? A lot of what you said. I think that definitely the refs hurt. I thought that the fact that they did play the entire game they didn't completely will. We've seen that. In the past those games they go out on the road. They have a bad first half and then it just gets completely out of hand. I thought that was really good. I haven't seen that once this year except the Iowa Games. Yeah well the Iowa game for one then in the past yes we've certainly seen that certainly disappointing after you know the day before seeing Gonzaga's San Diego State lose knowing what this wind could have meant especially after Penn state also lost could have been an absolutely huge game to win. But that's the thing. It was a huge game to win but not a bad game to lose. They're still in a perfectly fine position but man if they had come home this you know we were talking this morning about a win. We're talking about them. Being probably the fourth number one seed virtually having a lock on the big ten title and now we're starting to talk about. Okay we're the one seed now. Can we get to like the number? Two overall seed right and Maryland would have been according to Joel Nardi. Had they won yesterday? A one seed in this morning's bracket policy which he's got Maryland still is a two seat and they're not gonNA probably drop in the rankings. Today I doubt that they didn't drop in the overall bracket But if you missed it San Diego State Gonzaga and Baylor all lost on Saturday. Kansas and Baylor. We talked about this on Friday. That was a hell of a basketball game right game. Really good game Uh Bouquets really good a. Kansas has a chance to win the whole thing. I think Baylor's got a chance. I like Kansas. Chances More Favorites across the board. Are they right now? Really Yeah Dayton's in town tomorrow night to play Mason There they've got a chance a chance protect potentially if they run the table to be considered for a one seat. I think right now there I think a lot of people have them as the fourth one seat right now. So you know Maryland. Maryland didn't ruin their chances at a one seed with the loss to another state at all. there's a lot of basketball left to be played but they are solidly on the to line right now. In Lunardi is latest brutality. This Minnesota Game Wednesday night. It's sort of a big game and in this respect. You know. Minnesota's desperate they're capable. They've got a very very good player in zero They When I say they're capable they've got big wins this year. You know. Minnesota has stepped up and beaten. Some people This year and Maryland IF THEY LOSE TO MINNESOTA. It's two in a row with Michigan state looking for revenge Saturday night. You know. And you don't want that Michigan all. The sudden is the hottest team in the big ten and Marilyn closes with them But Maryland still two games clear in the big ten race Penn State Iowa Michigan State Wisconsin all ten and six Maryland's twelve and four Maryland. Still the favourite to go on and win the big ten title Wednesday night will be big though and I would. I would imagine that Cowan and sticks are GonNA come back with big games on Wednesday night. Really good matchup though okay. It's a good matchup between sticks Smith and And Minnesota's bigeye Daniel Otero. He's six ten to forty. They have the same kind of build. Arturo may be a little bit longer. He's averaging nineteen and eleven. He's got a chance to be an all big ten. I tend to be all big ten first team player. Minnesota's got wins this year. They won at Ohio State. They've beaten Wisconsin. They beat Michigan. They beat Penn State. You know. They've got some legit wins They're good team Even though they've lost like three out of their last four something like that with a couple of those games at home as you said. It's not a must win but when it comes to these loftier goals these get a one c these being Madison Square Garden when the big ten it almost is a must win. I can get those things without winning. It comes a lot nicer. Big for Maryland On Wednesday night. That's Wednesday night. All right Listen to us on our new APP. If you'd like the Kevin Sheehan show APP also on the website. Tell people that aren't listening to the PODCAST. That WANNA listen. That don't know how to listen on a regular podcast platform the Kevin Sheehan show dot com. It's up there. All the old shows are up there. Tommy I had a great fun a lot a lot of fun and a great show on Friday. If you if you haven't listened to that Let's get to some redskins so a couple of things number one Is I was thinking over the weekend that the Redskins I know. Everybody's really really excited about their receivers Terry maclaurin Stevenson's junior and Kelvin harmon. The three rookies. They played really well with the rookie quarterback And even before that and maclaurin looks to a lot of you like a star in the making and you know Steven Sims junior is is a guy. Who's a real playmaker? And maybe a real slot guy and Kelvin harm a real good solid number two and I don't disagree with any of that I don't With that said they were all rookies last year and they had you know at least for some of the time they had a veteran wide receivers part of the mix in Paul Richardson. You know I don't. I don't know what Paul Richardson gave. Them. I'm not I'm not about to say that Paul. Richardson was the the veteran that needed to be on the roster. Be With a bunch of young guys to teach him how to work to teach him how to. Apparently Terry maclaurin is super impressive. Super Mature And just you know in so many ways people think is going to be a superstar But there are some receivers out there that the redskins.

"I'm looking at Brady's record. Coty spin it Notre Dame now for twenty years. Yeah I mean. That's unbelievable that it's been twenty years in. I remember when Gary Retired. You Know Bray. My understanding is that bray really wanted the Marilyn job but that A lot of the big people involved in Kevin Anderson at the time they were more interested in Shawn Miller Shawn Miller. I think really would have taken the job. But apparently the meeting with Kevin Anderson didn't go very well. That a lot of the meetings with Kevin Anderson went particularly well but they ended up firing turgeon. And it's been mark Ever since I you know I'm sure burdensome Merrill fans would have rather had bray bray was going into the tournament every year with Notre Dame. They went two elite eights but there was a whole lot of years of some good notre dame teams Aaron. You know Not Making it out of the first weekend at the tournament before they finally had those runs to the lead eights. I'm looking right now. He was. He made a sweet sixteen in his third year. Notre Dame and then it was one two three four five six seven eight nine ten years of not being out of the first weekend in the tournament. Eleven years eleven years and then he made back to back alleviates in fourteen. Fifteen fifteen sixteen when they right when they joined the ACC as it turned out they joined the ACC and they're pretty good early on in the ACC Anyway that's it for today. Thanks have a great day back tomorrow Tommy..

"Does this need to do on offense to get something going here? We need to change the whole entire game plan at halftime. What do you need to change the game going on right now? A forest often so a lot of things. We WanNA fix. Thanks I talk to head coach Kevin Gilbride about Matt. Maguire comments saying that the play calling is an issue and I said coach in all my years of covering football. I've never heard a quarterback. See that and he says well that makes two of us. I need to go talk to him and figure out what the problem is because he needs to play better and they benched him in the second. Half Diana basically told Kevin Gilbride that Matt McLaughlin had thrown the coaching staff under the bus heading into the locker room. All right said well you know. Essentially we don't we don't we. We need to change the entire game plan. There is also mcglone. Miked up with Kelly Kevin Gilbride earlier in the first half throwing a couple of teammates under the bus saying that they weren't playing well that they don't get it and so when Gilbride was told by Diana that McGowan had said what he said at the end of the first staff. You heard what she said Gilbride said her and then Matt mcglone did not start the second half. They came in with their other quarterback. I don't even know who that was in the second half and McGowan was benched for good But you don't get that in the NFL. That's probably the most entertaining partner. These conversations on the sideline with the sideline reporters Diana the one thing about Diana. I've known Diana for for a long time. She she'll ask anybody anything like she is fearless when it comes to reporting and so the the follow up question was perfect to find out exactly what he was really bothered by and you know his answer being you know we need to change the entire game plan right to. Gilbride with it and Gilbride benched him pretty funny. That's pretty great. There's actually here's another thing. I noticed again kind of broadcast wise in it. Because you can hear the play calls and everything the commentary teams at times. Were able to say all right. I hear you know ex-post or something like that. Let's watch this guy. Watch the route. He does watch cartel Jones look towards him in the end zone. That's something I think. A lot of essentially the more casual fans would find really interesting and something that wouldn't shock me at the NFL. Did you hear what Jim Zorn's said last week last week? Yes that he was. He didn't know that he he was miked up and that everybody was here that though he was taking the play sheet and covering his mel. And I understand that George. Jim Zorn's thing. It's a very Such Jim Zorn's right. Everybody does that was the thing. He's he really is the nicest man. He's weird nice man but I don't think brilliant would be the way most would describe him How do you not know going into this new league that you're miked up everybody's hearing your calls he? He claimed that he didn't know in claimed he felt it. Was You know an invasion of privacy? That's hysterical man I What else You know the Carlos Correa stuff from over the weekend. I mean claiming that in particular Altuva did not cheat. I did find it interesting. The The interview that that Espn did with with Manfred him. Really being emphasizing that this buzzer thing. Buzzers may attach to the chest of. He said. There's absolutely nothing. You know. Witnesses anything that would that that that that back sat up as a true assertion and said he'd actually be surprised if that ever came to the forefront he also said was not happy with the way. Houston handled it last week. Who was now. I mean it was defiance nearly Anyway by Manfred also came out really poor poorly in some of that stuff. I mean just the way. He defended his decisions. He says the punishment was enough but he said he was asked. Why didn't some of these other staff members get punished? The guys who are actually being on the dribs well they did that at the discretion of the players but none of the players were punished in the process. Like things like that. Just do not come. And then of course. Everybody made a big deal of him saying that you know the championship was just a piece of metal that everyone got all up in arms. I I don't care about that we've been talking about for years. How the NC double a? When they stripped banners rails it's completely meaningless. That's not I don't really care about that. But every time man for its talks he makes his decision. Look Worse Yes i. Don't you know the truth of the matter is? I don't have a strong feeling about him. One way or the other I think I think I I think when I watched them interview to me he is clearly a smart guy. I don't I don't know what the right answer with this is. I think the Astros position is very interesting to me. The the borderline defiance ease interesting to me because I do think we have We have this ability in this country to overreact to things and to overreact to things that lack total substance. I understand there was a scandal. Don't get me wrong. All Right Mike. Fires was the whistleblower on this and they cheated they had a system and but I think ultimately some of the other stuff that gets carried away into buzzers and maybe you know in terms of the actual impact. Maybe it's been overstated. I don't have an opinion one way or the other on that right now but I think what you're seeing with the Astros to me is sort of representative of somebody who thinks An organization that thinks a lot of the discussion has gone past. The point of what reality was But then again it could be pure arrogance I it could be total and utter arrogance and I think it's more sort of missing the overall importance of this. Yeah I think it's a combination of that and and I said this when they hired dusty. There's nobody better in baseball. That they could have hired to help portray them as the victims. And all of this and I think that's part of this is that they're consciously making an effort. Maybe not the players but certainly the the management that they're going to actually be the victims there have been targeted and this is somehow going to be a comeback story when they come back and win this that this is going to be a rehabilitation is going to be a wonderful story. Look at them being down in the dumps and now all of a sudden here they are in the playoffs winning the division again. Hey One last thing before we run. I saw this late last night. John Lines out. He's basically going to be out as the cavaliers coach one year. Unbelievable we. Didn't we not say this? That what is he doing? Don't go John. Beeline should not be going to coach in the NBA. He had the perfect gig at Michigan. He's a great coach. A certainly a great college coach Some team is going to get very very lucky this offseason. So who's that team going to be? Who is is Texas moving on from shock? Smart I think but they're gonNA make a hard run at beard. I don't know if he will go but they will make a hard run at beards. Excellent he is excellent. Yeah they're going to make a hard run that's going to be their first second and third swear the big openings this year. Ucla filled their opening. Roy's not going anywhere with that. Recruiting Class Texas would be one eye staring a little bit. I like him as a coach so I think it'd be a little premature. I wonder about Indiana. It's too early. I actually think Archie Miller is a good guy. He's a good coach too but I wonder if they see. Oh my God we can get John Beeline. You know you know if he wants to be in the big ten again okay In the big ten which by the way his style of play his always worked. Best in I mean there's just so many good coaches right now. Nobody's leaving the big ten after this year right Minnesota it means rich Richard Pitino GONNA leave Minnesota Nebraska Hoiberg year. One northwestern Collins isn't going anywhere izzy. I mean I'll be line would be perfect for northwestern be perfect for any. I mean those are the openings in the Big Ten in the ACC. Georgia Tech. Maybe passenger Keno. He's actually done a good job. Coaching the team. This I know but it is there a wild done any probation next year. Are they next year two major scholarship restrictions? I could be wrong about that. What about Boston College Yeah? I mean B. BC. You know what you can win in basketball at BC. I just feel like he I if I'm him. I'm not taking the job you can win but I feel like if you're in the ACC have you could take a year off and do better. Maybe maybe I I don't know I I can't think of the other openings. I don't think they're going to be. I mean of course if bill self gets ousted Kansas. That would be the big one. Something were to happen there. Of course I would also likely come with sanctions and various other things but I do the other one I. I don't think this would be the case but I feel like he's always on the we wouldn't kind. We wouldn't be completely shocked if he's fired list. Mike Bray Man. Yeah he's he's another guy. This year they lost a bunch of players. They had a couple of players leave. They lost that one key player that got hurt in the Maryland game when the ACC. Big Ten game this. He's done a good job this year. This is without a lot of. You're seeing that but if like seven while you re or four years without an NC double a. toward that what it is really for Bray. I think so. Because he didn't make it in two thousand eighteen. They were terrible last year. They were under five hundred last year. You know it's funny about Mike Prey. Everybody that I know that knows him and a lot of guys around here. No Mike you know. Because he's from here and he's always you know in Dewey and Bethany Rehoboth whatever starboard hanging out in the summer. Lotta guys I know. Know Him really well. I don't know Mike At all actually. I think I've had him on the show once or twice over the years He he was in the tournament in Two Thousand Sixteen. Twenty seventeen okay. So I'm saying by the way that followed two elite eight appearance. No I know but I'm just saying that would make this the third straight year. He doesn't make that's correct. This would be. This would be the third year of not making the tournament they win the Nit and twenty seven two thousand eighteen. They had a losing record last year and this year you know with all the injuries there's no way he's he's losing his job with the injuries they hadn't with. Doug it. I'm just I'm trying to look over. What schools might say not necessarily? Oh we have to fire this guy but oh man John Lines available. Yeah that's just that's one name that kind of POPs into my head you know..

"He is still in concussion. Protocol that is scary. You know the concussion thing. I've a little bit of experience with it because I had a son who had multiple concussions playing football and basketball And it really is like in many ways like the testing is it relies on the answers from the participant and in some ways there's some subjectively too. It's crazy but anyway bottom line is you just want Jordan Reed to live a healthy normal life more than anything else. But what isn't spelled out in this story is whether or not the redskins can release him a player who potentially is going to get paid because of a salary that may be guaranteed for injury. And he's still on the in this protocol And whether or not that impacts the cap if they release him. I don't know the answer to that. I'M GONNA have J. Wholesale. I think on the radio show tomorrow to SORTA get him to walk through it So listen to that and then I'll have the answer to that On the podcast tomorrow but assuming they can release Jordan reed and get the full caps savings because I keep counts ten three if he's on the roster but the dead cap is like one point million if they release them so it's eight and a half million dollar cap savings. The redskins are going to basically be in the sixty plus million dollar range of cap space. You know that's top six top seven in the NFL. So that gives them the opportunity obviously to easily handle the Alex Smith contract for next year And to spend in free agency now. If Jordan reads the next sort of off season domino to fall with respect to cuts. Then you get into Trent Williams and Ryan Kerrigan and there are a couple of things over the weekend that I read that I'll share with you That came from Different different places first of all Matt Bowen. Who Matt Bowen? Former redskin covers the the NFL for ESPN Basically said that The the redskins should be trying to trade Trent Williams on there were a bunch of predictions. You know moves predicted on on a story on ESPN DOT COM in Matt. Bowen said the Redskins should be moving Trent Williams to Arizona for a second round pick. You know it would be a good trade for both teams and Bill Barnwell who writes for Espn DOT COM and very long winded writer. I actually like Barnwell a lot. Though in his story over the weekend he suggested the Redskins should move on from Ryan Kerrigan Either trading him or releasing him Those are the next two decisions That are going to be made here and to me. It's like really simple. If you're the redskins you're thinking you know about two potential paths. And I don't know that they're thinking about this way I'm not really even recommending that they think about it this way. This is the way I'd be thinking about it. I'd be thinking about. Hey you know our. We're going to compete next year. We're going to be a better football team next year because we're GONNA be young players. That are a little bit older and more experienced. We're GONNA add young players to the mix through the draft and potentially free agency and we're going to be a better coaching staff and so we're not winning three games next year. We may in a win. Six seven eight. You know who knows maybe you know were six and six seven and six entering December with a chance to make the playoffs But more likely than not. We're not going to contend for the Super Bowl in twenty twenty and probably not in twenty twenty one either. I mean I'm not GonNa say not in twenty twenty one in the end it's the. Nfl CHANGES SO quickly And you can turn it around so quickly. We've seen that over the years. Look at the forty niners this year. Of course their situation a little bit different because they didn't have their starting quarterback the year before when they won four games Garoppolo was hurt and they went four games. Garoppolos back and they add nick. Bosa etcetera and go to the Super Bowl but I think that there are two pads. There is the path of long term. You know Roster building and if you're thinking long term and you're thinking about getting younger acquiring dry powder to to get younger through the draft to create even more cap space to potentially go out and sign young players that are available. Then you move on from Trent Williams from Ryan Kerrigan. You get what you can get for Trent Williams you get a second round pick because I don't think I is available anymore. In fact there was a tweet from Dane. Bruce Taylor who without on the podcast I think before he covers the draft for The athletic and Brugere tweeted out over the weekend. Allow me to be hyperbolic for a moment. This year's offensive tackle draft class is the best collection of high ceiling offensive. Tackle prospects the NFL has seen in a long time. We've talked about that in recent weeks. that's going to drive the price down. And Trent Williams. The one year left on his deal the fact that he didn't play for a full year this skins missed out on the opportunity to be sitting there in twenty. Twenty with two first round picks. I think we all understand that okay. blame Bruce Allin. Blame Dan Snyder blame humor. It's the organization did what it does and that is had. No vision was petty small-minded narrow and blue an opportunity to really add to their draft Prospects and potential in twenty twenty. I think he's still could get a second for Trent Williams. I do it. I would take Ryan Kerrigan and I'd move them for third. I think he'd get a third for Ryan Kerrigan. I do and I would clear out. You know another significant amount space cap wise and I would add picks and I would be thinking about the future by the way one path does not preclude the other from happening. I'm just if I'm if I'M GONNA compete in twenty twenty. I'm GONNA do it while simultaneously building with the future in mind. I'm not going to extend Trent Williams Extend Ryan Kerrigan signed Greg. Olsen sign another couple of older players sign a Philip rivers for a year and say hey we a chance to win the NFC East and twenty twenty. You know we can spend some money. We can extend some of our veterans. We can win the NFC next year. You know nine and seven or ten and six and host playoff game You'RE NOT GONNA win the Super Bowl next year so I would be thinking long term again. Doesn't mean that with your young nucleus on defense in particular with Landon Collins pain and I notice and Allen and adding chase young in Montana sweat being in the second year and Ryan Anderson and the performance he in the way he performed last year in keeping Quinton Dunbar and adding a corner and Free Agency and having a much better coach. Defense is you know potentially put you into a competitive position anyway. But you're building for a chance to make a run at sustained success starting in twenty twenty one twenty twenty two where we're building something. We're we're going to be young. We are going to get talent. We're GONNA stockpile picks we're GONNA stockpile talent and in twenty twenty two after we've gotten better in twenty twenty and even better than that in twenty twenty one and maybe even played a playoff game in two thousand twenty one. We're going to have a chance in twenty twenty two on a five year six year. Run of being really really good. You know you got Trent Williams in twenty twenty two twenty three twenty twenty four as not playing at the top of his career. You got him in his mid to late thirties. Now Saint thing with Ryan Kerrigan. So that's the path I would take What path they take. We're GONNA find out you know. I'm also not discounting the possibility that Ron Rivera and Jack Del Rio in the coaching staff look at Ryan Kerrigan and say man. The way they've been playing here for the last. You know five six years with Joe Berry and Greg. Musky so stupid. We like Ryan Kerrigan. We think he's a perfect four three defense event and maybe even an interior pass rusher on pass downs. You know in in a four man front And we think we can get a lot more out of him okay. I'm not discounting that. They don't think that I'm not discounting the possibility that Ryan Kerrigan comes back and has his best year of his career because he's on a better coaching staff with a better defensive scheme but I personally think with sweat with young with Ionitsis with Allen with pain you know and I'm never going to stop adding to that that's a that's a critical area of your team. You get settled in A. You've got other possibilities to add to that. I don't know somebody's GonNa give me a second or third. See Ryan Ryan's been a very good player for the redskins. Never an elite player. Never it's not the way Snyder. And Bruce Allin saw I promise you that they see him. All-time redskin they see him as you know Redskin ring of Fame Guy and a guy that I guarantee you Dan. Snyder does not wanna see and his career anywhere. But in Washington but Ron Rivera might think differently. And if he does. I hope he's got the ability to move on from from Kerrigan Anyway Jordan Reed next and then probably the decisions you know with Dunbar and Williams in Kerrigan that sort of what I think is lining up here. Olsen is is a you know it's buffalo or Washington or Fox broadcast right you know. Those are the possibilities for For Ulsan I still think Olson's can end up here you know. They need a tight end Scott Turner if he designs an offense like his father. Did the tight ends a big part of that. I had this Guy Chad Forbes from at NFL draft bites on the radio show. He's actually really good You know has a lot of thoughts on. We went through the whole quarterback carousel thing. He thinks the redskins. Should you know us like a Dunbar guy in a trade to acquire somebody like Austin Hooper somebody like Hooper from Atlanta. Who is free agent? He is but they're gonNA likely Tagum so lanoka hag him in traded him you know maybe we some picks involved how `bout. Oj Howard Don't you done Tampa want him? They don't use them who they use break. They don't use their tight end much but Howard's at talent exactly that's why I he's always whenever I hear tight end trade. That name always pops up to me as I feel like if you offered them something that at least consider you know the other thing. This Guy Chad Forbes said to me this morning on the radio show. He said he thinks Teddy. Bridgewater is going to end up in Washington and I said really if Teddy Bridgewater ends up in Washington man is the Shit GonNa hit the fan with a lot of you because to me Teddy Bridgewater is going somewhere in signing a contract even if it's in New Orleans. If breeze retires.

"Yes because right now the best players in the big ten have been La- Garza Probably first and foremost in. He had another really good game for Iowa yesterday. they scored the last eleven points of the game on the road at Minnesota and won. That game You have You have the kid turow from Minnesota. Who's had a great year? He's not going to be player of the year now. Obviously Anthony Cowan and sticks. Smith earned the conversation. Lamar Stevens is in the conversation. who am. I forgetting Caleb Western early on looked like he'd be in the conversation isn't Xavier Simpson's not in the conversation from Illinois. Yeah he was hurt did not play. I mean He. Kennedy's billion excellent. Yeah it's going to be an incredible just figuring out the first team you know. Gars I think's going to win the player of the Yes I think but I'm talking about just first team overall in it. I think Cowan stick should be on the first team based I mean. You still have six games left. Yeah A lot. A lot of time left Anyway getting back to the game so down seven. I sort of felt like okay. I mean I hadn't given up but it was like Michigan State had all the momentum By the way they pounded the floor. You know sort of after. They went seven which was a big mistake. They didn't score again in Maryland. The game seemed to fire Maryland up There was also pounding the floor right in front of more cell. And he he I think he took it personally but Anyway everything went perfectly a first of all you know. Turgeon runs a really good play to get sticks. Smith Wide Open for three and Smith buries it to get it to sixty two fifty six. That's a massive shot in the game because without that they're down seven and don't have the ball and were approaching two and a half minutes left in the game he hits that in their defense was exceptional down the stretch. I thought sticks played great defense more cell got switched onto Winston Cowan Autho Winston. But they've doubled winston off of ball screens in particular with sticks and then it was three straight threes from Cowan. The first one came off of more cell penetration. This guy rocket watts had done a really good job on Cowan in the second count. Didn't have any points until the final eleven points of the game over the final two and a half minutes. His first three was the contested. Three off the more cell penetration were watts. Helps shouldn't help should've stayed on Cowan? And now it's sixty to fifty nine. They get a stop and then wiggins drives draws watts to help off of Cowan onto wiggins wiggins fines. Cowan knocks down a second. Three Maryland's got the lead sixty to sixty. They get another stop. And now we're inside of a minute and Cowan against gets a high ball screen from sticks and watts for some reason decides to go underneath the screen. Most of you know this. You know basketball right if you're guarding shooter. And somebody setting a screen for him with the ball. You don't go underneath the screen. You fight over top of it. You don't want to give him any space to shoot a three and open. Three Watts goes underneath the screen and then gets taken out by Tillman. Who's trying to Chase Smith off the screen and Cowan lines it up and knocks home? A third straight three. They're up five. That's game over he got fouled. He added two free throws he scores. Eleven points to the game and they win sixty seven to sixty in addition to feeling like maybe one of the biggest wins of the Mark Turgeon era and it felt like that I asked him about that. He was on the radio. Show with me and you can listen to that on the team. Ninety team nine eighty APP Team Ninety Dot Com charging came on with me at the end of the show in the third hour And I said you know for all of us that have followed. This in you know have lived it. Our whole lives Maryland basketball. That felt like a massive wind. May Be one of your biggest. Did it feel that way to him and he said in right. Now we're in this run but yeah. I understand what that meant. You know? That's Michigan state in their building. You know and I think he even he recognized. That was that goes up there Erin on the on the shortlist At this point of tergence biggest wins. Since he's been the coach Maryland. You can talk about beating. Wisconsin that first year in the big ten when they were number three in Montreal. Ottawa was two or three or whatever they were some of the home games. You know that they've won the big road win. That's the biggest road win without question. No doubt and then we have to talk about the finish the Cowan finish in. I'll just say that. I've watched Maryland basketball my whole life. I went to Maryland but I grew up as a Maryland fan long. Before I went to Maryland my father went to Maryland. We went to a lot of Maryland. Basketball Games Maryland. Basketball was huge in my family. And I've watched a Lotta Maryland basketball over the years. That finished by Cowan ranks up there with the all time Maryland finishes would bias did in the Dean. Dome in eighty. Six Was certainly one of the great individual performances in Maryland. Basketball history. Dean Smith had not lost at the Dean Dome Maryland went in there. Carolina was ranked number one and and Leonard put on one of the great individual shows of all time at thirty five. He had multiple blocks had double digit rebounds. Many of you remember the iconic you know steal on the inbounds pass in the reverse dunk over worn more Martin and then a bias head the dunk had. I'm sorry had blocked shot on Kenny Smith at the end of overtime to secure the win. Not only did he blocked shot but he grabbed the ball away from Kenny Smith That's an all timer. Ernie Graham scored forty four still holds the record for the individual most points in a game in Maryland basketball history. He had forty four on the night. in nineteen seventy eight against NC state. This was long before the three point. Line anybody that tells you that they were. There will say that Ernie Graham would have had fifty four with a three point line one Dixon's performance on senior night at Duke Unchain Batty. A senior night was an all time performance in an all time close out. He was phenomenal defensively. I think he went for twenty eight and a gain. Vasquez had some unbelievable performances. Member the Triple Double Against Carolina When Carolina was ranked two in the country and he went for like thirty five Erin to fourteen ten. Oh Yeah and they were down nine with two and a half minutes to go and gravest be Eric as basically closed it out. Vasquez nearly had an all time performance in the tournament against Michigan Status where he scored twelve of the teams final fourteen points before Corey. Lucius scored To to to end Marilyn season in his career there've been a lot of great individual performances That was up. There will never will never forget anthony. Cowan going for three straight threes in eleven. Straight points to beat Michigan State. Seriously it goes up there and now you know cow and all of the sudden by being here all four years in hitting like is not new for him he said so many clutch shots for this team. Go back to that freshman game against Georgetown at capital one arena. When he had he got he had a couple steals had all those free throws at the end brought Maryland backs in stunning fashion to to shock. Georgetown in they're supposedly building even though it was mostly Marilyn crowd there And he's been clutch the whole time. I've gotten so many debates with friends about Cowan. 'cause I have been on count. I've loved him from the jump. I thought that he's clutch player. He's a much under. He's a very underrated defender. And that you know he's going to continue to get better. I mean this notion that he was going to go into the draft. Last year was really ill conceived but whatever he got that experience he should've come back he did come back and now you know. He's ninth on the all time scoring list. He's he steadily climbing his way. Depending on what happens here over the rest Over the next month and a half month and a half to you about a month and a half. He's he's going to be considered on that. Top fifteen list of Maryland. Greats too tough list to be on. I mean he just passed Keith booth. He's you know up there on the assist. We talked about that last week. Where is he third on the list? On the assist was I mean nobody is going to catch Blake and then Gatlin secondary are gravis gravest. Second is Gatling third blankie on his third right now I WANNA pull that up because All that stuff I mean Maryland's had some. Must've you understand this. They've had some great players In the history of their programs so he is right. Now he is ninth on the scoring. List okay ninth on the scoring list. And by the way he's going to end up more likely than not he's GonNa end up seven. He'll probably pass will he's GonNa pass McMillan. Baxter the less you the first Vasquez a second. Yeah He's fifth on the all-time assists. So he's going to be. Yeah and he's probably going to be fourth he's not gonNA catch. Nobody's catching blake. He's two hundred ahead of Vasquez and he's not GonNa Catch Gatlin more likely than not so top five in assists. He's going to end up top six or seven and the scoring like just that alone. Yeah make some rafters were they. Probably especially if he leaves them to a big ten title here. Y- because you know bias did not get Maryland to a final four you know McMillan. L. More at Saturday and get Maryland to a final four. But they're all considered Albert King didn't get Marilyn Buck Williams didn't get Maryland final four but they're all considered. Among all time Maryland Greats Dickson is the champion Blake a champion Baxter. A champion obviously and final four two final fours. Lucas didn't get got Maryland to the elite. Eight McMillan and L. Morton. Lucas played in in an elite eight for Maryland. The problem with Cowan Right now is they. GotTa make tournament run. You know for him to really be considered because if one sweet sixteen is all you have you know and let's face it that one sweet sixteen wasn't really with Anthony. Cowan being a significant part of it right you know right or was even a part of it. What he wasn't even a part of it now. Yeah that was before. Yeah so that was mellows Mellow Sophomore Year. Yes was Cowen on the team. Why am I blanking? Though the twenty two thousand sixteen sixty I would have been twenty at the senior. Yes seventeen eighteen hundred. Twenty so yeah. He came in the sixteen seventeen seats. Yeah so he was not on the sweets. Yaseen team craft so he's got to get out of the first weekend at least well. I mean bias was in multiple. Sweet Sixteen eighths never got out of the first weekend. That's true and I consider Gravis on that list in the top ten lists. Yeah I think I've had gravis when we've done this before. Like number seven cowans. Not Cowan's not going to be in the one Dixon now. Lend Rise Buck Williams John Lucas. Tom McMillan L. Albert King. Len elmore you know he's not going to be on that list gravest list. He's going to be in that next here. He's GonNa be in that next year with Keith booth in Johnny Roads and you know and and what Williams and you know.

"DC Sports related in these cross sport props so we have a Where was this okay so penguins and capitals play that afternoon early right for the first four games between the two games total goals and penguins verse caps versus George Kettle Receptions options say that again total goals scored in that game penguins caps in typical over under an hockey's like seven versus George Kell receptions Where where is where is the kill receptions number right now six and a half seven yes? So they're they're both right around the same I I will go based on what you told me about the Garoppolo passing yardage number. I'll go over the kettle. Yeah I'll go kill in that spot and another Sir Georgetown Place Saint John's so Georgetown Saint John's total-points minus ten and a half versus kindle and Kelsey total receiving yards plus ten and a half hold on again. Georgetown the final score the total points between Georgetown and Saint John's minus ten and a half versus kiddle title and Kelsey receiving yards combined. Okay so you're talking about you know a Georgetown's playing Saint John's You're probably talking about a total of one forty five. And we're talking about combined yardage of what Kittelmann Kelsey Kelsey and the basketballs laying ten and a half on met yes I'll go killing Kelsey plus the ten and a half. This is ridiculous of course Israel but the Jersey number to score the first touchdown over under twenty six and a half. We'll so I did see some prop bets on that breaking it down on between like zero to ten eleven to Twenty and eleven to twenty was the favourite. So you're saying the over under twenty six on the Jersey number to score the first touchdown getting plus one twenty if you take the over oh definitely taken the you gotta take the under. Because tyreek Hill wears number ten and Patrick mahomes whereas number fifteen and Garoppolo wears number ten John and Samuel has it in a number doesn't kill Kelsey and Mostert. Oh if you go over right. Because mustards thirty one Damian Williams no number twenty six twenty six and a half so yeah. So you know twenty-six Nazi Williams on the under. I'll take the under yeah to under on that and there were a couple of ones just again going back to the fun stuff here that I wanted to point out because they're ridiculous but I also think they might be locks at plus money One is will they mentioned where he moster is an undrafted free agent or was they undrafted free agent in the broadcast plus one thirty of course they will. Yes yes exactly. I mean you're talking about from the not in the pre-game but when the broadcast star checking off kicking to new final whistle halftime does not count. So it's it's the broadcast it's bucking Aikman. Yeah right it's a Fox game right. Yes Yellow mentioned that he's an undrafted undrafted. Free agent at some point in this game you know. Watch him get hurt on the first play. And then they'll just say the undrafted free agent done for the day All right go here. There were a couple of other of these kind of broadcast props. Will they show Joe Montana playing with the chiefs. A clipper picture the yes at least at the time was plus fifty. I think the odds are better that we're GONNA see Hank Schram as a part of this broadcast from some of the super bowl four stuff. Yeah I Dunno I feel for that one and then the other one a couple of people are talking about is Andy Reid will they show Andy Reid in punt pass and kick contel. Yes well they mentioned. We're are Andy. Reid is about eight inches taller in seventy five pounds heavier than any kid in punt pass and kick competition which he competed in. Do you know. Do you know what that highlight is from. I can tell you right now. What it was from? Because you're not going to know the answer okay. It's from Monday night. Game in nineteen seventy one at the L A coliseum featuring during the La Rams and Washington. Redskins oh I didn't realize. The redskins was the redskins first season under George Allen. Coaching against his former team. It was one of the highlights. Highlight Games of the season in nineteen seventy-one George Allen going back to La to coach against the rams. The redskins won the game and clinched their first playoff berth and like twenty five years in the NFL on a Monday night football game in la in at the end of the third quarter. The reason I know hi. This is because the broadcast of that game the actual ABC Monday night game broadcast with Frank. Gifford and Dan Meredith in Howard cosell is available on Youtube in at the end of the third quarter when they used to have the punt pass and kick you guys come out and do the competition. There was a picture and you see it young. The Andy Reid who is bigger than every other. Get out there Little did they know that night. That Andy Reid would become a former would become a future NFL potential essential. I think Almost a walk to haul him coach They'll mention at some point. What price semi getting? I guess money or no. Actually they was plus money. Yes yes there's plus money I haven't played that one yet. I don't know if not yet one more one more good one. Oh One more really good one okay you know. What will the team that scores? I win the game. Yes is minus. I WANNA say it was minus one fifty and no oh was plus one forty. Take the knowing that take. Yeah especially with the way the chiefs games have been going lately right exactly Have have fun people. Be careful though because with all those bets in some of these sites have you know we're talking about over a thousand. Yeah you know appropriate appropriate opportunities. You can get sucked into it and you. Can you know the next day. Be Looking to borrow money from somebody to pay your guy All right let's finish up the show with a scorned score.

"Really do think he's got that but I also don't want to forget Alex Smith. Here's a guy that's doing everything he can to come back and come back and beat a player that he was us. You know we have a good situation. We have competition at that position. And that's what we want to create. We want to create an atmosphere of competition. We want these guys competing because we want to put the best players players on the football field. All right two things From what Ron Rivera told a AL and DOC Number one is this need to sued. Dwayne Haskins Dwayne Haskins take the leadership mantle. He has said this before. I think this is coming from place of you. Know he's got the proof some things we're not handing handing anything I like that I think it's also coming from a place of being legitimately Curious as to whether or not he'll be able to pull this off Haskins. You know I think this is is very important to to Ron Rivera. Now practically speaking join Haskins is the only quarterback under contract. It's healthy right now for next year. He's also a first round. Pick a guy that Rivera had suggested. The Panthers had graded as a first round guy and he improved throughout the end of last year I loved how he referred to the Detroit game. If you recall I came in here after that Detroit game with a lot of you telling me how bad dwayne was in how inaccurate he was and how it was alarming. How bad he was and I sat here and said I was absolutely impressed because of the final two drives of the game? I saw guy that did struggle at times during that game. Thirteen to twenty nine for one hundred and fifty six yards. threw an interception fumble no offense of touchdowns in the game and he was overthrowing people missing people all day long but He made plays with the a game on the line. Not Not a one dry but on two drives down sixteen thirteen with five minutes to go and he led that scoring drive with a couple of big. Plays including a couple scrambles That got him into field goal range to tie the game and then at the end of the game made a big play on third and five refound Terry maclaurin for a seventeen yard completion in the put him in winning field goal possession position with the game on the line. He was six for nine for seventy nine yards and had a huge scramble for eleven yards. So so I liked that. He played with an urgency competitive level that matched the moment he played with a ton of confidence. It was the thing that I had mentioned going back to the preseason games. He doesn't in place scared he's not afraid. He carries himself like he belongs. You know and I didn't I don't I'm not a box score reader. Most of you know that that listen to me. I I read box scores. I don't use them as the only way to evaluate when I'm watching. I watched the Games in that game. It wasn't about his statistical little box score. It was about what he did on those final two drives and I was glad to hear Ron Rivera mentioned the Detroit game because he had other games that were much more impressive. Statistically statistically you know the game against the giants game against The Eagles were he really got it. Going in both of those games that Detroit game. He put that team on his back onto drives where they needed to scores. And they won The leadership thing I ah where do they go I mean he he mentions Alex Smith unsolicited. He did that again. By the way on. I take about a half hour ago really yes again with the Alex Smith. Yeah really look given what they're going to pay Alex Smith it would be in the best. It'd be the best result for the organization to have Alex Smith Healthy and ready you to play in twenty twenty. You know with what they're paying him. It'd be much better if he were able to play the not play and if he doesn't play well enough to to win the job if he's legitimately healthy enough to compete for the job. What a great backup and mentor like he was with Patrick Mahomes when he was starting when Patrick Mahomes was sitting? We've heard that a lot this week about Patrick Patrick mahomes crediting. You Know Alex Smith in that first year for being a terrific mentor. Dwayne Haskins has referred to how Close Alex Smith have become in how important Alex Smith has been to him more than anybody else in the building. I just I can't believe Alex Smith is GonNa play next year. But what do we know. we keep hearing from many people out there that that if anybody can do it. Alex Smith can do it I think the Dwayne Haskins is going to be the starting quarterback. I want Dwayne Haskins to be the starting quarterback and I want him to listen to what the the head coach is saying. Listen to what people doubted him on early. In the season and part of this is on the team to teach him as a very the young player that hasn't started a lot of games high school college and pro. Some of this is going to be on the adults in the room. Now that there are some in the room teach him what Aaron Rodgers does with. Tom Brady does what Patrick Mahomes does. What the great ones do how the great ones need to be committed a certain level we heard Scott Turner? I don't know two weeks ago when he was on that conference call with the With the beat reporters say that. He's got to be the guy that knows the offense better than anybody in the building other than the offense coordinator and even as much as the offensive coordinator. He will gain respect respect and he will buy respect. Become a leader by the increased respect. Become a leader. If he knows this thing every we wish way to Sunday he can tell Terry maclaurin note on this when you're lining up in this position if he knows that offense and he knows that playbook better than anybody somebody else I hope he really digs into it. I know it improved significantly. I heard from people that said he was a different guy after he started starting When he got the starting job against the bills and if he really commits to it and they help him and they teach him how to how to learn how to commit? And what's what what what it's like to be truly professional if you WANNA be elite at the position in the NFL. I hope he gets after it man. 'cause I don't WanNa see Alex Smith Stark Twenty twenty. I don't WanNa see Brett Hundley or Teddy Bridgewater case keenum in here. Starting I WANNA see Dwayne Haskins in twenty twenty. He's got talent want he's got an edge to that I like I want to see him. Really take ownership of this thing and take you know take Ron Rivera literally and become that leader through a work ethic and through a commitment to understanding what he's doing out there so that he knows it better than anybody else. I hope it happens. Happens I. I'm I'm optimistic. That it will All right let's get to some super bowl talk. What you say about that Let's get.

Dwayne Haskins Dwayne Haskins Alex Smith Ron Rivera Detroit Stark Twenty twenty Patrick Mahomes Terry maclaurin Patrick Patrick mahomes football Panthers Aaron Rodgers Scott Turner giants NFL coordinator Brett Hundley Tom Brady Teddy Bridgewater

"Love that at the end He's GonNa show you rather than tell you I like that Just so you know if you if you haven't listened into a lot of Bradley beal over the years. He is very religious in. There's always before any answer in any interview. He thanks his Lord and Savior. Jesus is Christ. It's it's the way he starts every single post game interview any interview I've ever brought me every every single scrum to every single you know media you know gathering That That that Aaron goes to a lot so He did mention disrespectful. And he's pissed. It's fine but you also said I'm GonNa try to get my team to the playoffs and I thought playoffs. Are you serious. And then I looked at the standings. They're only four and a half games out in a terrible eastern conference. They terrible defensive team. I mean just one of the worst defensive teams we've seen in recent NBA history. You know I like veal. Sometimes he drives me nuts wall to with the way he plays in sort of a casual way. I think it leads to turn overs and wasted possessions over the years and he's not a great closer as we've seen over the years you know Baheen John both at the end of games trying to take big shots but I do. There's something about him him that I like first of all. I think he's really bright and thoughtful. You know I've seen logger interviews with him. He's developed into an elite NBA score. There's no no way to really debate that he sixth right now in the NBA In scoring He's having a career year obviously At Twenty Twenty eight point seven points per game what he's averaging right now You know she's got a field. Goal percentage rough- roughly forty six percent. You know nobody is defending this year. beals always had the capability of defending like wall. It's never been consistent There's something about him though. Oh that I've always sort of liked personally. I think he's one of these guys I don't know that I feel that way by John Wall but I think he's really competitive but I think he's also self aware I remember. They played Toronto in the postseason in that second year. They were in the playoffs with wall and beal first year they beat Chicago and then lost Indiana and then in the second season with Randy Wittman. They swept Toronto in the first round before losing to Atlanta in the Eastern conference semifinals in a series that they really should have won. But John got hurt if you recall and that was the team with Paul Pierce first year. They had to raise a second year. Pierce was sort of the third guy with wall and beal Nate Gore. Tot All of those guys on the team as well and They had one game one in Toronto. Oh and game to They went into Toronto and usually in game twos. When you steal a game on game one the home team is desperate? And you feel like like you've already achieved what you wanted to achieve and Toronto took a lead in that game and they started running their mouth a lot And got very physical and chippy with the wizards and Bill went on a run to basically Take a big lead at halftime. And I'll never forget at the interview and I went and looked this up. I couldn't find the sound but I found the quote at Chris Miller grabs him as there As as he's coming off the court at at the break at the end of the second quarter and Miller asked him something about you. Know the chippiness and they're trying to really get physical with you and beal had just you know answered with a big second quarter order. And the wizards had the halftime lead and he said quote they think that were some. They think that we're some punks. They think they can push us around. But we're not rolling and and he walked off the floor and he came back and they kicked. Toronto's asked in the second half and won the game by eleven going away swept him in Toronto in the first two games swept him in the series. And I remember thinking you know beal. Maybe he doesn't hit every last second. Shot that you you'd want but he's come bigger in playoff games than John. Wall has more often. You know there's something to him in. I still think sometimes he sloppy is a ball handler can be man I think that is free. Throw shooting percentage of always felt this about him In recent years should have been higher in this series. Finally shooting it at eighty five percent I think is mother helped him with that and being serious I had. I had Scott Brooks on the show once last year and I said bills free throw shooting. Stroke is too flat and he just laughed at me and he said you're you're perceptive. That's what his mother thinks to in. His mother was a very good player. And we've been listening to his mother GonNA listen to his mother and the ARC's gotten a little bit better this year. Little not not as flat as shot shooting eighty five percent from the free throw line this year you ninety percent plus in his last several games so beal is I was glad to hear that rather than just read the disrespect because I think the context context to it was a guy that was pissed. There was upset but wasn't making it all about him His agent tried to do that. His agent had the following unquote Mark Bartlestein is his agent quote. It's just wrong. I think the coaches have sent a horrible message. He could've could've made the choice to be a bandwagon jumper and just go on and join a higher level team and he would have been guaranteed in the All Star game. But he didn't want to do that. He wanted to be loyal to his organization and the coaches in the NBA are holding it against Brad. That he was loyal to his organization. Closed quote it's a stupid thing to say a first of all. It's not true okay. The coaches didn't vote Bradley. Beal didn't snub Bradley beal because beal wanted to be loyal oil to a bad team in an struggling organization right now. It's not why okay. The team is struggling the reason that he's not in his probably because of the team's record and it's in the team's terrible defensively and he hasn't been great defensively but it's not they didn't snub him because he chose to be loyal to the wizards at stupid. And the other thing the agent said is you know to to be a bandwagon jumper and go on and join a higher level team first first of all. It's a dig at the wizards justifiable. But it's also you know suggesting that players are super selfish and that the all star game means more to them you you know. He could have made the choice to be a bandwagon jumper so he could have gotten into the all star game but he didn't do that. You'll give shit about the all star game. Did you see just just as a as a secondary add onto NBA basketball. Did you see the format changed for the NBA. All that was really weird weird. What in God's name are they doing so the the NBA All Star format has a completely different Different format For this year they're changing the entire structure of the basketball game. Now they still have the two team captains and they're going to pick their teams games and that's fine. You know like that kind of thing in terms of you know dividing the sides up and you know if you wanted to go international versus us when those things don't bother me but listen to what they're doing for the All Star game this year which I couldn't care less about but I I don't know why they care so much First of all the the teams are going to compete to win each of the first three quarters. All of the quarters are going to start with a score of nothing to nothing so the first three quarters are going to be twelve minutes and they're going to be individual games three individual games all right and then at the start of the fourth quarter. Are you following that so far. That's pretty easy-to-follow. Yeah okay first. three-quarters nothing nothing at the beginning of each quarter the winner of each quarter. Just everybody knows gets to Gets a hundred thousand dollars To donate to a charity of their choice so you have three quarter winners. Three hundred thousand dollars gets donated to charity For the winners of those three. That three-quarters stupid nothing. Nothing at the beginning of the quarter like we really care about what the score is that. They're not playing that hard in the first three quarters of the game. But here's the best part of it at the start of the fourth quarter. The game clock will be turned off and a final target score will be set. The final target score will be will be determined by taking the leading teams total cumulative score through three quarters and adding twenty four points the twenty four representing the late Koby Bryant uniform number once the final target score is set the teams will play an untimely fourth quarter in the first team to reach the final target score will win the NBA All Star game and then they give even example because you know what they needed to give an example. It's pretty hard for most people to follow after you're playing. Nothing nothing to start the first three quarters and playing the first three quarters. This is an individual individual games a unto themselves. You'RE GONNA have a three quarter score. They're GONNA add it all up from the first three quarters and give not at the beginning of the fourth quarter and so t may is up one hundred ninety five if you add twenty four to team as score than their target is one hundred and twenty four at the bad twenty four to the team with ninety five points okay. See I'm even views hold on. So if the cumulative score of the first three quarters is one hundred ninety five the final target score would be set at one hundred twenty four points okay. So now. It's the first team to get one hundred twenty four all right so to win the NBA. All Star game the team that had one hundred needs to score twenty four and the team that ninety five needs score twenty nine i. They need to get their first. Oh my God just dumb. It's dumb but this is also interesting because I obviously the thing is for Kobe. But that's also variation of this thing called the L. Amending which someone had basically people were getting tired of college basketball. The last two minutes just being foul L.. Foul South right so this guy came up with it's pretty simple but the ending and basically with at the in in his ills. This guy is professor for all his name. Yes Nikki Lem okay the first stoppage after the four minute you you know after the under four timeout basically once they under four time this was supposedly for college basketball..

Reply is the can speed up the conversation by letting respond without having to speak yourself this. Yeah Google translate already. Does this if you have the Google translate APP which can get on Iowa so we're android but having an assistant especially if you have an android phone means you don't have have to bother launching it. You just talk to your phone God a number one. Google translate an absolute necessity. If you're traveling a nation with a different language and percents it made a honestly not to get all healthy on soft. Diffuse Lights But when I went out to visit family in Italy It was it necessary. Like not just good not just a helpful. It was something that greatly a bound us more together as distant relatives it was a exceptional so any easier. The one thing that bad about it was having to I wound up settling on IOS downloading the Italian keyboard. Just so I could use for them. Just the single push button where they could talk and then translate that of things or I could just hand them the phone and they could type it if it was easier for them to type than talk but the the easier and better these functions are as core elements of any phone the better off we are all going to be as humans and Google translator now will just listen and detect the language being spoken So so you don't even have to switch around you can just say you can just have people talking okay. That was Italian. I'm going to translate that to English by vice versa simply using this upcoming trip to Japan I have no doubt about that. Oh for sure and I will say I mean. Google assistant is the best at this the best by far I having travelled many places in the last several years where there are a variety of tools that are available to to interpret Britt speech that I don't understand otherwise it is the absolute best so the fact that interpreter mode comes to phones. I'm sure as a welcome feature to a lot of
