Shortly after the shooting, D.C. police chief Robert Conti said police thought the victim may have been targeted, but so far, no motive has been given. Yeah. I don't agree with the pain of I don't agree with it. I don't know how you can. I mean, how do you select who gets paid? And who doesn't and it in the county situation like this? His accomplishments both on and off the field. What the guy meant to the city of new york. What the guy meant in the wake of nine eleven. What the guy. May i mean. My gosh i'm so mad about this. The terek cheaters hall of fame ceremonies happening right now and i'm not going to be able to watch it live. I am watching it as you can't listen to it live. There are very few players in yankee uniforms. That i would say. And i've never met or interviewed derek. Jeter but i would love to do it. Just because what that guy represented. He did it the right way. I mean it's impossible not to respect derek. Jeter you can hate the yankees as i do you despise organization in the laundry that they wear. But you could not despise derek jeter and the stories. I mean the guys legend for so many reasons. The gift basket on the way. Home after one night stands. That story in itself makes him an incredible lech but he is somebody who never got in trouble in new york in the tabloid era when everyone was in his business. The dude kept himself out of the public eye. Out of the scandal. Didn't get married early. Didn't have kids early. Didn't do or give up his lifestyle his freedom until he wanted to and then he did and now he's a guy who's running the miami marlins it's such an incredible career in its dude. "I wasn't like this screams. Canonical nonbinary. I mean they did share it. Like star wars did like put it out there as part of trans visibility day like they they celebrated it and promoted it. So i think there's a i'm sort of almost like countering my earlier argument so i don't know i feel like they're to me. They're still like i like them. They're interesting. I liked it. People are using day and getting you know. They're seeing that on the page. Yeah it's still a little bit different. Yeah i think for me. Sarah and terek are kind of similar to the trill mindset mindset. Where yeah they use as they them pronouns because they're essentially one spirit splitting the two bodies are something along those lines as opposed to being characters who just reject the concept gender. They were assigned and have chosen to identify as non binary that makes sense like. We don't know their journey. We don't know maybe their entire behave this way and that their entire way. That's like okay. Creating a non binary alien races fascinating. And i think he did something to examine sci-fi of what happens when you have society who doesn't strict to gender roles the way that like humans do and society does especially like and unfortunately we've had very bad examples of that in the past like star trek but i think that without knowing the context of their history and their existence. I'm still a little bit like yeah. I'm glad that you were able to get some good social media. Engagement on france visibility bay and i am glad that star wars is is i guess the more positive read is that. I'm glad that disney is using the platform of star wars to raise awareness for ability on trans visibility. Day by. give me some who are explicitly stating that. They are of these identities and had that be thing. I will say that the star wars novel. The hydrolic novels do have some characters. Like there's there's there's a male male married couple at one point and one of the stories. That's i think going to be relatively more important as the story goes on. Jed eye romance romance novel level of two characters who have had long burning passions for each other. That'll be fun to see how that plays out. But yeah i could see a writer taking us. I haven't seen anything on the page that made me go like oh i see myself represented you know what i mean. So yeah not that. I'm the only way we talk about. But to win three months the temp goes down below 30 Freezing. Not once. Does anybody remember the power going out? Think about that, Ernie. I think that David there was they don't even have this in Oklahoma. Their power doesn't go out. Why is that? What is going on here in Texas? This is our grid. And you know, I was watching Channel eight last night and they were talking about some people are getting super lucky because they're on the same line as maybe you know, a necessary business that needs it, like let's say a hospital like they just happen to be on the same greatest them so as long as the hospital gets it. They're gonna get. You know the odd thing about that is you could live next door to the hospital, and you would be dark in the hospital as power because of the way they because the way they do it. It's just there's no way to know boy. Is it a message system and then what? I also don't understand. Why are some people getting like clockwork Blackouts, which I would prefer and then other people just sporadically and randomly. It's like it seems like the encore. People are just all over the map like you'll get eight hours of blackout. An hour and a half of power, and then you're off for another seven hours or something like that. I know that's why parents were going through in Corinth. It's just incredible. I had Had I lost power. And I was out for 14 hours, and then it came on for about an hour and a half. You could buy custom rims and put the factory T p m s sensors back in them or on them. It's real common for people to do Customization because we buy you know a fair amount of takeoff items from some of the dealers where they take off a factory set of rooms and put on a custom cetera might not be real common in a Prius. Not as common right? No, but they often times they tell us say, there's no T P m s sensors in these rooms. They break down the front bead and they get the sensor out of it. They put it into the customer him or they just buy. If they're not too expensive factory, they'll buy a factory set of sensors and put in the custom rims. Now there's also gotten to be quite a number of companies that offer aftermarket sensors that jive with the factory stuff and you can put in there, so that problem you can overcome. But I'd be very sensitive about what I put on that car. So that's probably that was your second part of the question. Correct? Well, I guess I was just wondering. Am I gonna hurt anything? Conversion charts on the Internet that you can find on a Prius. When you go messing with tires, you're it could be a drastic swinging in mileage, even sticking with the same size. If you have this exact number with a very aggressive tread pattern on you go from a low rolling resistance tire for fuel mileage to standard tire and all sudden you've changed, But Chris speaking as a Prius owner for quite a while now, if you You want to get that 50 whatever. America's national parks face existential crisis over race
"The the re re openings openings many many people people in in the the United United States States so so using using the the opportunity to get outside and visit public spaces, especially during this holiday weekend. But the national parks are always seen as a breath of fresh air. ABC is Devon Dwyer talked to the National Park Service's first Latino Park service director about the challenges, racism and history that have made it difficult to get more black and brown Americans into national parks. The sweeping vista stir the soul, wildlife and waterfalls awaken a sense of wonder. American wilderness of playground for old and for young and overwhelmingly white. When you look around, you don't see people that you identify with you Don't Feel welcome. You feel out of place you feel Like you are an outsider and bring Terek is founder of Brown people camping When she was eight years old. Her family moved from India to Minnesota, where she fell in love with the outdoors. 20 years later, she's still astonished not to see more people like her. Some people might say, Isn't this just that people of color don't like to camp? Too many Americans of color parks campgrounds enforced land are stubborn bastions of self segregation. Racism was a factor at the founding of America's national parks created in part to be an escape for white urban elites. Several were racially segregated into the 19 fifties. Many considered uninviting to people of color into the 19 nineties. We have an inherent fear we do because of our history about Glenn into these remote rural places where we're not sure that will be accepted. This was the government in Beijing willing out to spokesman for the Business Central Government that deals with Hong Kong and Macau the former British Portuguese colony so we had these two spokesman young shoe being and they were answering questions from the Chinese state media but also some foreign media on weeks and weeks of very very large sometimes violent protests and so is is it ominous that they even took to the microphone at all it is pretty ominous because for the first several weeks of these large protests the censorship machine kept news of what was happening in Hong Kong from the mainland public. What's happening now is that state media is turning this into an attack on hostile foreign forces black hands unpatriotic radicals in Hong Kong who are trying to damage Hong Kong's prosperity and stability and the problem with the central government making those accusations out loud is that they're giving themselves no room to back down and so that really has people anxious in Hong Kong around the world that we could see quite a nasty crackdown coming if these protests don't stop because then our? Tones into a test of the central government's authority so you mentioned that in the press conference there is talk of the the black hand this notion of foreign influence I mean how how much do you think that's a part of this. And how much is that it just a useful bogeyman. It's absolutely out of the propaganda message. The evidence is actually the other way. Actually president trump himself has praised the Chinese leader Xi Jinping for his restraint that said keep an eye on the U._S. Congress because the U._S. Congress actually has an extremely powerful weapon that could use if things get much worse in one thousand nine hundred to the U._S.. Congress passed a law that basically treats Hong Kong as a bit like a Western country when it comes to things like trade tariffs these rules Hong Kong have a completely different legal status the to mainland Chinese. If things got really really ugly troops on the streets Congress has its in its power to tag that up and to basically exposed Hong Kong to all of the same tariffs and visa restrictions that any other bit of China face as you say these protests I have been going on for weeks and weeks why Beijing decided to raise his head above the parapet now so the protests have changed quite dramatically in nature over the last ten days also we had had this situation where you have these large process which during the day they were often very peaceful grannies and children in pushchairs and then after night fell you would get more trouble people throwing bricks and bottles and tear gas from the police that was so settling into a pass and everything changed about nine days ago up to big things happen one was that the protests is attacked for the first time the central government's liaison office in Hong Kong threw black paint on the coat of arms of the People's Republic of China on the outside of that office that sounds a bit kind of Esoteric Terek perhaps outside China but in China that's the kind of behavior they get locked up for a very very long time. It's dark challenge to come to authority. The other big thing that happened was there was a protest in a small town near the Chinese mainland in an border where some mysterious dozens of tufts in white shirts attacked protesters very very violently. Those guys in white shirts are widely believed to be gangsters from organized crime syndicates the triads and they were believed to be in collusion with these central government authorities because the police melted away and disappeared and as long as the gangsters were attacking protesters.
