"Tobe got to come in early. You know what it throws everything off. So that's why health is so big for Tennessee. That would be the only thing of scientific power trouble or jemima shak because he's emerged as the guy to be able to handle this spot. One thing about the shooting playing the guys in the SEC, this is why I'm not fearful in this game, but then playing FAU because when you pay attention to detail the way they do, they have had a crash course in it when playing Missouri and when they play in Alabama. So two teams that really shoot the three and depend on the three outs, although they want to get to the basket as well. But when you're looking at the numbers, they do a better job as far as defending that when that's the game. I think in the coaching, the coaching staff has done a great job of scouting reporting them the players being able to transfer that to the court and staying locked in on it. The problem, I think, lives when somebody gets hot. You know what I'm saying? And you get in the hole, Tennessee's not a fight out the whole team. That's the only thing if ever you comes out gets hot, gets 7 threes in the first half. You're like, oh, shoot. What was supposed to do? Because it's not like you just said, it's not that firepower with you. You're not going to have Olivier go for 27 and start hitting threes, you know what I'm saying? This is a drag you down, Brock fight, lock the door, let's get it on, you know what I'm saying? There ain't nothing pretty about this. So that would be the only thing, man. If gas got hot and you couldn't get it, you couldn't get that extinguished early. Pain is exactly like you said, Demi coming into the tournament, not just as the way it relates to this game, but everything in general, such a high variant sport over 40 minutes, one team gets white hot, even for 20 minutes. They can put a little bit of separation between them and their opponent and if a team isn't built the right way to slay's point to come back to erase that deficit, it can be over early in some of these cases. Well, I mean, here's the thing. Slay might not see it this way. But the balls are playing with house money, right? I think the way Tennessee was kind of downtrending late in the season. You lose ziegler. I think most left Tennessee for dead. You look at some of the inefficiencies the balls have right, not a great half court offense. They refuse to get easy buckets in transition, certainly some question marks that we've all discussed about Rick Barnes in March. I guess as we kind of put a bow tie in this game, remove the Tennessee orange glasses for a minute. And the walls really make a championship run just being elite defensively and playing physical and obviously you have one of the, I guess if you could hand pick a match up here in the sweet 16, you got to feel pretty good about seeing FAU as opposed to maybe Purdue or Memphis. Yeah, without question. And I think as far as making a run, I'm going to leave it this simple. If they can make layups, if they can make free throws and get the free throw attempts, like in state 9 turnovers and below, I take this team, the way they play defense. And you give me those three keys. Without question, I think they can make it wrong. I mean, the region sets up perfectly for him. I don't think a lot of people thought that Tennessee would have to go through FAU to get to the elite 8 and then take on the winner of Michigan state, Kansas state to punch their ticket to Houston and compete in the final four. From New York City though out to Vegas where we're going to see Arkansas and Yukon do battle on Thursday night. That game schedule the tip off. 7 15 eastern. It's Yukon, a three and a half point favorite total in the game of one 45 against the razorbacks at T mobile. As you guys talked about earlier, third straight elite 8 appearance for the Arkansas razorbacks on the line here. Paired dominant ATS sides from their non conference portion of the schedule. UConn 1201 one ETS outside the big east, Arkansas, a shade behind them at ten and four ETS. When you look at these teams, we know they want to do things a little bit differently. Arkansas wants to get out and run. They want to utilize their athletes in space. Yukon wants to slow it down, turn it into a little bit more of a rock fight, but they are not shy on scores. Guys, you can light it up from the outside. And we've seen how good has been scoring inside, at least through Yukon's first two games. Pain I'll let you kick it off on this one and then we'll get slay steak. When you try and assess some of the metrics here and you try and identify a strength or a weakness or a path to success, is there anything that you've been able to identify that you think will be able to manifest on court Thursday night? Well, the first thing is, you know, slay mentioned the talent that Arkansas has potentially three lottery picks and kind of going through Kansas who was a really bad one seat and didn't have Bill self and a couple other key cogs were playing at far less than a 100%.

"But the SEC as a whole. Three teams moving on to the sweet 16. It's a league that you know inside and out. What were some of your takeaways for the other teams in the league not named Tennessee will get to? Man, I'll tell you, when you look at it along those lines, what you heard all year kind of remained true going towards the end of the year. Look at Alabama. They play defense. You know what I'm saying? Arkansas, yes, the talent pops off the screen. And you hear about all the draft picks, but man, them dudes lock up and play D when they're playing good. And playing at their peak, especially on that end. And I think you can say the same for Tennessee. You look at it and you have with Alabama's coach and Arkansas coach, you have a new age of basketball kind of ushered in this era of this arrow style. It's not the traditional power like you would play at Tennessee where you have a traditional four and 5 men. Then you got a point guard and a real three man with Arkansas and Alabama is more positionless and that's what they go out and get. You got to have 5 guys that can dribble pass and shoot. And that's what you get when you look at Arkansas. You take out Trevor Brazil being hurt early for Arkansas and you would see that. So everything kind of remains true to what you thought it was at the beginning of the season and you just having to get to see that at the end of the season now. You know, be honest with us here slay. I know you're a corporate guy now. You know, the Disney corporation's cutting you a check. You Kentucky is a big part of everything that goes on over there. But you still believe Tennessee orange, there had to be a little part of you that felt good watching Kansas state polish off the wildcats and send coach kal and big blue nation home packing before the second weekend of the tournament. This was the first opportunity that I've had two figurines on my shoulders. One being a devil and one being an angel, both wearing the SEC cape. And I couldn't, I was like, yes, we want all the SCC teams to advance at least 5 of them to get to the sweet 16. And, man, when Tennessee made it, I said they set the tone. The Arkansas was able to do it. I thought all of them was going to do it, but when Kentucky, when Kentucky couldn't get it done, then on the inside, because I was getting text messages from Kentucky fans and former players all day telling me all y'all should be happy y'all should be happy y'all made it. And then they team went down I just smiled so happy on the inside. It was a moment. You know how you feel like when you get up out of the bed and you're like, man, this is a beautiful day. Y'all to go out here for a run. That's what I felt like. Except I didn't go out for a run. I just watched Kentucky burn and crash. And it was a beautiful, honestly. I love it. You know, pain, it's reminiscent of how you talk about college football that it's a good day for Florida state when Miami and UF both lose on the same day. So I understand we're all you guys that are big college football and college basketball fans live. It's as good to have your programs win some of the marquee games as it is to have those bitter rivals loose. There's no doubt about it. One thing I wanted to ask you is you mentioned a little bit earlier about Alabama's defense kind of flying under the radar top 5 in defense of efficiency. Is there something you've noticed maybe over the course of the season, whether it was back in November, even just in the tournament here, that if Alabama doesn't win at all, it was because they had a specific chink in the armor. What would that be, do you think? I think one would be those guys started to stand around watching on the offensive end and not going to the offensive boards giving themselves second shots. And I would think Betty acho somehow got in foul trouble. I think he's done a terrific job of staying out of 5 show because when you got a real protector like that, you don't have to slack clowny to the 5. You're able to let him play the air quotations for spot and be out there on the perimeter where he can shoot and you got to go down there that he can drop it off to him Betty acho Ben who anchors that defense, even though it's not talked about. He did get praised in the SEC tournament. For being one of those guys, but man, he's a big time guy to have protecting the basket and he brings even though he looks stand, he brings a physicality to the team where you have a guy 6 9 challenge in the shot and a guy 6 11 7 foot coming over the hill. That's a total difference. When you have a guy like that, so I think that's the biggest, the biggest change Betty I could stand out of file trouble him being healthy and being able to protect the basket the way he does. You mentioned health there and I don't want to put your feet to the fire hearing anything on Brandon Miller's growing. Yeah, man, I don't think it'll be a problem going forward. I think a little bit of that if I can be honest. It was more so

"You asked me the color that I would wear orange. Just pops. Navy that's more of an everyday color. Obviously, that people kind of just wear white, obviously, is just a neutral color for a lot of different people, but the orange pops. Because it's a little different than Florida's orange, I think. Obviously different than Tennessee's orange. It is. That's one thing you have to yourself. Now, are you wearing orange like hoodie, pull over with this for me personally. If I was an auburn guy, which I'm not. It was one of the reasons I chose Alabama actually because my high school codes were closer to Alabama's than auburn. I just didn't know how it would look in the orange and blue. But when you're 18, these are the decisions that you make. Sure. All right, so I would go orange pull over white sleeves underneath. You know, blue shorts. Yeah. Probably the no show socks. You know? Okay. That's my look. I know probably quarters it. Yeah. And Cole, the question started because Cole cares about his fashion. People don't know this. Well, they do know this, but Cole told me last night, hey, what are you wearing? Because I'm bringing some heat. And he's got the Jordans on his feet. I had dress shoes, and he was just like, ah, it's shocked him a little bit. I was ready to go toe to toe, literally. With you, 'cause you usually break out the Jordans. It's usually where you want to go. So I said, you know what? There's so many some heat. There it is. There it is. That's what you need. Little auburn love. Got the auburn socks, had to have those. No kill out of blue to go. Everything else except socks and I show my socks and now my Twitter mentions are going to go to hell. I'm only just a regular, can we use the other camera? Is it better? I don't know. Let's get the writing. There we go the inside. We got to work on your flexibility. Flexibility. I mean, I got the socks, you know? There we go, little pole. There it is. Okay. That's about it though. Your fashion advice there from us for today. SEC scheduling has been a hot, hot topic for the last probably week week and a half since we found out Texas, Oklahoma, going to come into the league early. The assumption Roman is, it's going to go to a 9 game conference game schedule. And so you have three common opponents, probably no more divisions, head Greg sankey on our show macro and cubic in the morning on jocks last week. He said, listen, we've been working mostly on a division less schedule. And how they're going to do it. So I thought it would be interesting for you and I at least to have a discussion of who we would want as our three opponents because one is going to be that we both agree upon. We believe all of our Alabama should play each other every year. Some are very interesting. Some are really easy. Some are hard at Florida. I think it would be really tough. Florida has way too many enemies out there. Arkansas really tough. Really tough. I think Ellis used another one that's really cool. All right. If you're in charge, making the schedule Alabama's three common opponents are auburn, Tennessee. Then the other one is really hard to think about, I don't want LSU every year because it's more of a new rivalry. I would go with probably Mississippi state. Closest team in location. I was going to say, I like the proximity. Yes. That is usually a lot of times a good game, maybe a better game than people think, maybe two of the last three hadn't been so great for one way. But I'm fine with that. Because I wanted to even out overall. I get it, but how the mail is you, man. That's a ratings bonanza, what you want that you want those numbers every year. You want those numbers. That's tough. Yeah, but as a coach, I don't want to play the top three in the SEC west every year. Who does auburn what goal if it's up to you? If it's up to me, but Alabama's there. Obviously, George has got to be there. That one has to be there. I think there's a lot of ways that you could kind of go, if you remember, there was a time, probably right when you went to school after I left auburn that LSU auburn was a massive game. Yes, it was. That was a big one. I would like to see one of the Mississippi schools. Let's say Alabama took Mississippi state. I would like for all to play old miss. LSU were old miss would be my choice. Now, I've seen some of these that are mocked up that have South Carolina there. I don't really understand how and why that one would come into play. Old Mississippi state, you get the proximity, makes it a little bit more sense. That's one that obviously I think will be fun to have. We've been sitting here from you guys 8 5 5 two four two 72 85, who may you might want as your common opponent for whatever team you root for in the SEC if scheduling did go this direction, we'll go to Ted and Tuscaloosa on line 6. Welcome to the show Ted. Hi guys, how you doing? Great. How are you? How are you? Very well. Well, how about roll legal and war tide? We'll take it. Today we'll allow it. Listen, you guys are doing a great job. I just wanted to comment that classmate of mine from college Tim mccarver died today. And a lot of people don't know that besides playing baseball Brian tried to recruit him as a tight end at Alabama. Boy, we first off, we're sorry for your loss. Definitely hate to hear that. Thoughts and prayers with you and your family and the Alabama family. And be thinking about you. Wish you the best. And obviously, go ahead. Sorry, excuse me. No worries. I gotta take off but thanks for talking. Yes, sir. Thank you very much. It's amazing the more stories that I hear about Bear Bryant. We have wimp Sanderson on every weekend. I love stories about just going to see different sports. How much time he spent with baseball. How much time he spent with basketball. It's just, we only think of it as his football coach that's just larger than life figure there, but his fingerprints were all over that athletic department during his time in Tuscaloosa. Susie is in Georgia. Welcome to the show, Susie. Hello, Cole, and Roman. Can you hear me? Yes, ma'am. Okay, good. Before I mentioned something else, I hope Paul is okay. I didn't see the beginning of the show. I hope he's getting a day off and not sick. That he's not there today, but it is fine. Oh, good. Good, good, good. Well, it's nice to see both of you. I wanted to see that I really, really enjoyed doctor pasques. My pronouncing that correctly. Yes, ma'am. That's great. I really, really enjoyed his little history lesson on Mardi Gras. That was something different on the show and I learned a lot from it. I'm Catholic, but I never really dug into the history behind Marty, I just the fun. At Mardi Gras that you see, I've been to New Orleans two times and it's just a fabulous city and a fun place to go. So my thing when you were asking him what he was going to give up for lent and what I have started to do instead of giving up something because I give it up and then I don't follow through unfortunately on it. I get a bag like a trash bag. And every day during a lot of I put a piece of clothing in there that I want to donate to goodwill or some needy cause. And I do that for all of them. And then when Len is over, I give that back somewhere. So that's kind of a different idea. That's a great idea. You're essentially giving up those articles of clothing. So I feel like it works. I feel like that's fantastic. Yeah. I like that idea. Thank you. You the best dresser I have ever watched on TV every time I see you, you are just your style and I really like your senses. Do you watch SEC nation on Saturday mornings? There's a young man by the name of Jordan Rogers.

"On Saturday and at that the only thing I saw only from the skies were volunteers, okay? There was nothing else and actually Palestinians to be thankful for that because if it was perfect weather, don't you want to put up 20 to 25 more points on them, right? So I have one last thing to say goodbye to rocky top. Rocky talk town. Is that young lady we had on the show Friday still singing, wearing Tennessee orange, she's done with that song. She was wearing red Saturday. Yeah. I don't know if I like that. I mean, I realized she went to Georgia, but she made a bunch of money off of Tennessee nation. And then she turned her back. Okay. I don't know when we've ever had, I think we need to take a break here. I don't know if we'd ever had more people trash one caller in the first hour of the show than today. We're heading to the break. Legend is next. You are listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast. Late on a Monday afternoon, early evening. Legend is next. Serenity now to remedy now to rent anything now, you know, I went and got my medication upgraded this morning, Paul. To extra extra extra extra strength, serenity now, serenity now. I told my psychiatrist this morning. I've been seeing him every month for the last 20 years since I got out of prison. And

"Well there it is a snippet of we just had Kirby smart here. I'm not sure Megan, you're having outshone him, so I don't think he kind of got by quickly, but yeah, I didn't get to talk to him, but I was nervous. It's like seeing the president. I've never been that close to him. I'm terribly disappointed. We didn't get you guys together. He would have been really impressed with the Georgia graduate singing about Tennessee orange. It's all for fun, but so when we talk to you a month ago, the song was just breaking. What did the Tennessee win over Alabama do to the song? Well, my manager told me today that it's up to 45 million streams. So that's insane, 'cause I'm independent still. Yeah, I think that had something to do with it. And that's so interesting because the music industry is bizarre, especially country music, and it's not easy to get heard unless you have an expression. You have a song about two of the biggest teens and college football. All the football. So let's talk a little bit about the genesis of the song. And I know you've talked about it a few times. And you've done a lot of other really, really great stuff. But I'll let you pick it up. You're sitting around one day thinking about so I graduated from UGA in 2020, and I moved to Nashville for music, and I met a Tennessee boy. That had a crush on. And. So I wrote the song just because when I put on a Tennessee shirt for the first time, it felt like a sin. So I knew that if I felt that strongly about feeling how weird it was, I could write a song about it. And I sent it to my mom actually, my mom somewhere. And when I sent her the song for the first time, usually, you know, I send songs and she gives me feedback. All she said was, are you freaking kidding me? And that's exactly what she said. That's exactly what she said. It might have been more explicit. Okay. I'm betting a dare I was. So Megan. I don't want to be a gossip columnist here, but you know where I'm going here. There's a lot of speculation about who the song is about. Can not confirm or deny. So I'll go ahead and ask you. I saw him at the Alabama Tennessee game a couple weeks ago. He was with Kelsey ballerina. Peyton Manning and Kenny Chesney. Him? Him, Morgan Wallen. Oh. Interesting. These are great guys. Was he supposed to be with you there? I don't know. No, you just said him. So I wasn't sure. And by the way, I'm not asking you something that I got independent. I just read this somewhere. So it's all over Nashville. You're concerned. No, he's great, yeah. So do you know him very well? I do. I haven't told you. Okay. Not yet. Not yet. I don't know, maybe one day. But so the question again, I'll try to ask it in a friendly Roy. People think the song is about him. And your answer was you can't confirm or deny that. Yeah. They think it's about a couple different people. Can not confirm or deny. Anybody else well known? A lot of people think about Connor Smith too. Country singer. Right, right. He's got the orange and white. Yeah, I mean, I thought that was kind of weird. Your song is doing better than this, I think. Oh. Well, he's great. Okay. I'm sure he is. But you're still out telling him about 30 to one on this right now. So those are the two and I mean, are you just having fun with this or are you just really rather not talking about your well, I mean, I just, I feel like all my songs are true stories, so there's no reason to tell who there's about who they're about, you know. Here's the one is about someone too. Yeah. I mean, I'm trying to remember Carly Simon wrote you're so vain in 1972. And I think she kept it secret for 50 years. Yeah, maybe eventually. Who knows? The worst part about that song. I still don't know who it's about, and she revealed it. It was either Mick Jagger or somebody like that. When you write a song, and let's go to writing this song. I've talked many, many artists. Sometimes the music comes, sometimes the words come, how did you construct this song? You mean like the idea itself and well, I mean, I literally put on a Tennessee shirt and I was like, this is kind of disgusting. It felt wrong at first. It still does. And then I have the idea in Georgia. They call it a sin, because Georgia girl. And I brought that into the writers room and we just wrote it. I kind of told him the story, and I wanted to make sure that we included things like it sure wasn't Athens and stuff like that, because I am a Georgia girl. But yeah, I was in Knoxville last weekend. And they were great too. What was I like to? Behind enemy lines with your hit song. Well, they were great. They made me feel very welcome. They told me I was an honorary of all. So yeah, it was fun. Game was fun. I kind of wore black. I had a little orange button on. But I did keep it neutral. So back to the song. And when you wore the shirt, was it a Jersey? It was a shirt. Sure. Okay. And was that it? Just wearing the shirt. And I had never put on a Tennessee shirt, obviously, so. I have. We're talking to Megan maroney. Your career was already had already lifted off, but is it possible to gauge what all this means? I mean, you really have exploded. Yeah, I have, I mean, I really just try to take it day by day because I'm busy all day every day, so try to just keep working hard and not worry about what's to come, just keep it going, head down. Did I hear a couple of people out in the audience singing the song? Why don't you serenade the singer for you guys want to start? He's

"And we say hello to you on a beautiful afternoon in Athens. Megan maroney, of course, did the song Tennessee orange. Oh. I can't believe you don't know that. Well, you know, I just like when you schedule your guess, so you try to throw in a few people that, you know, hey, this is what we would do. And then you throw in some that are for you. Specifically, Tennessee orange. That's all for you. Here's the catch. She went to UGA and now the song's about meeting some boy in east Tennessee and now she's wearing Tennessee orange. I like that you said wearing. Yeah. Not wearing. You are a C man. I can go east and see if I have to. You know what? Welcome back to the states. Oh, it's great to be back. I missed you guys last week. You know what? It's funny. Somebody tweeted me and was like, oh, you know, you're abandoning the SEC. And it's like, you know, excuse me, sir. It's not really how it works. I'm told to go on these assignments. I'm very thankful for them, but my heart and soul is here with you, Paul. And I miss being with you. It wasn't quite the same in Jacksonville. I haven't done this. I was. By the way, I read one of the I heard you and you had an audience with Prince Charles while you were over there. Oh, yeah. That was just easy. It was everywhere. Yeah. He's my guy. Correction. King Charles. Oh, yeah. Well, right. Actually, it was kind of interesting, you know, before the game in London, the Broncos Jaguars game, they sang the national anthem for America. And then they sang God save the king, but rest in peace. It's no longer the queen. So everything's about everything's about the king. Father was born in London. Wow. You know. I want you. You do have a very international vibe about you. It's the air. But you put off. Couldn't you guys see Paul with an English accent? Should you try one out? No. Oh, okay. Got it. Cool. Sounds good. Big game here. Yeah. It's a river. What are you going to ask Kirby smart? I see his handlers, so he's like, whenever I get kicked off the set early, it's because Kirby got here, which is great. Yeah, you don't know. With Kirby smart, you've interviewed him a million times. You just want to keep him happy. You do. And it's funny because I was talking about this today with somebody else. I think people think that Kirby tries to be like Nick Saban. And he doesn't, like, Kirby smart is Kirby smart, and he is who he is in his own right, you know? He's not trying to be Nick Saban by any stretch of the match. I think he's a little bit more intense sometimes even than Saban is, which is a good thing for Georgia fans. I was very early on. He probably wore thin of the saving questions. And I know. It's annoying. I dare you to ask. No, you don't bring it up again. Well, why would you? Like, the guy won his own national championship. He could win another this year, you know? What do you have to say? Hey, where'd you get saving for his birthday the other night? Okay, but isn't it funny when this is partially on him, but lane kiffin keeps the connection with Sabin going. Yeah. He wants that to be a thing. And he has fun with it. You know, which will be interesting next time. I want to ask you about Kevin. You're a kiffin ologist. Well, you are my tutor there. So I learned from you. I'm just the people. Everybody tries to read, he tweets out about other jobs that he's been linked to. I just think, I don't know, I don't know where the comedy stops and the real world begins. It's hard to decipher. I think he has fun with that, you know? I mean, here's what it is. I think the success that he's had as a coach at old miss and the success this team's having this year allows him to do some of that. You know, there was a time where it wouldn't have been taken very seriously. And when he wasn't at a powerhouse SEC program, but what he's done there, and it makes him really interesting to people and he's fun to figure out, although I will say this, he's gotten quite serious in some of his interviews. I don't like seriously. No, I'm like, come on, man. This isn't you. You're not talking to him a couple weeks ago in Oxford. Oh, yeah. He was all tight. No, I don't want to see pre game lanes. Pre game lane is no fun, I know. We'll have to tell him that. We'll give him that feedback. I'm sure he would love to hear that from us. But it's fascinating. You do such a good job of this, Paul, just speaking about the personalities of the coaches that we have in this league and I do think that amongst the big time programs and you put Tennessee right in that category now, but these programs that have become synonymous with the top of college football, we have so many great characters in this league. I'm sure somebody will write a book about this era in the SEC at some point. I know you get other books to write, but down the road to get to that one. And I think it's fascinating. I do want to announce that my latest book project and what is the deal today. It's the tell all on Laura Rutledge. Okay, but here's what's funny. Do you guys want to know? I didn't sign this deal. No. There's nothing to tell. I have no I have gone back to your childhood. When I was Laura mckeeman. Yeah, when you were whatever your last name is. I have gone to the university of Florida. All the broken hearts. I had one I had one boyfriend really the whole time in college. So I didn't break any hearts. So who was he? His name's Chris. Chris. Yeah. Chris Fowler is up here next. It's not him. I think he's, you know, I mean, there's a little bit of an age just grabbing something. Which I don't judge that in people do what you want, but yeah, I mean, here's what you'd find Paul if you did a tell all on me is you would just find that I have always been a huge dweeb. Like I'm just still at dweeb, but I really was then Laura, I don't know if my source is accurate, but that's not what he told me. All right, you know what? I'm denouncing this book publicly because this is obviously we get inaccurate sources here, which is unusual for you. Usually you have resources. It's a tell all and I've learned about the book business salacious cells. Libel and slander right here. So I don't care if I don't care if it's accurate or not, but I've got several guys who have told me unbelievable stories. You should interview some ladies instead. Well, that's for the, that's for the book law. Which I'm saving that for when I go on the view. Oh no. Listen. If everybody you'll do anything, you know, to just I will. Or don't you, young ladies. Young ladies who all want to be like you and you do not. Yeah, I can tell you that. No, no, I'm very fortunate. I'm very thankful. You know, I will say this. If there are a lot of bodies that she's run over to get to the top. It's so cold. In fact, I think I've been run over. A couple of times. We can not talk about that. I know.

"Nothing about a number being in front of it. It would be a big game regardless because both teams are in the east. I'm looking forward to the opportunity. Look inside Sanford stadium, quiet now, but not much longer as the weekend has arrived and so has the biggest game of the year. In college football, two number one teams on the field tomorrow, one from the AP, the other from the sea. If P and we have a long way to go here before we say goodnight, Kirby smart joining us about 45 minutes also Laura will be here. Chris Fowler down in Baton Rouge and Megan maroney, the recording artist we talked to about a month ago who Georgia girl went to school here and wrote a song about wearing Tennessee orange. This ought to be interesting to see how she works her way or sings her way through that conversation. Let's get to the phones for the first time. I think today. And I talked to Billy, who was up in Philadelphia. Hey, Billy. Thank you. Can you hear me, Paul? Yes, I can, Billy. Thank you. Well, I wanted to know that Philadelphia is starting to feel the SEC experience. Yeah, we do have a lot going on. And it's amazing the effect that it has. I mean, people are becoming friends with people that they weren't friends with. Families have been reunited. Everybody's enthusiastic. It is not usually that way. But it reminds me very much of what happens in the SEC when these states compete in one school beach than other, et cetera, et cetera. It's a very healthy and helpful experience. Well, Billy, for all the critics of sports and there are many and with justification last night when you had Houston and Philly playing in football and the baseball, it does bring it home and I'm really glad to hear that because I've always been close to that city through relatives and nearly almost going to work there once. So I appreciate the call very, very much. Let's continue this some other time. I look forward to chatting again. Thanks so much, Billy. Harold is up next in Alabama. Hello, Harold. How are you doing, Paul? Harold, how are you? Fine. I was wondering, is that perhaps one of the greatest drawing backs in college football will be who has a good reason to be in the state of Georgia will be at the game tomorrow? You know, listen, I've seen I've seen a lot of signs with his name on it since landing here earlier today, but I don't know if he will be here, although I don't know why, if you're running for public office in the state of Georgia, why you wouldn't be here tomorrow. That's what I was thinking. Because I was wondering how often Brad and Gary CBS cameras would have the cameras on. If he was there. Yeah, it's a great question. I will check on that Harold and see if I can get you an answer because I have no earthly idea what his campaign looks like tomorrow. Hey, thanks so much for the call. Benji is up next in Detroit. Good afternoon. Benji, are you there? Hey, what's going on, man? We're doing great. Thank you. Hey, listen, man. I'm a Tennessee AE pie, fellow alumni, I believe you are. Always good to hear from you, man. Thank you, Benji. Great to have you on. Hey, listen. Made this song. If you know who the artist "Weird Al" Yankovic, he takes songs and makes his own lyrics to him, and I'd like to bring one to the tune of the devil went down to Georgia. Well, give it a shot. All right, let's get my music queued up here. All right.

"Hey, welcome in on this Thursday afternoon. Everybody itching for the weekend and we're just a day, maybe two days away. A day away from the actual start of the weekend two days away from the games and what a weekend it is going to be. Let's start with the game of the day and the game of the year. We're talking Georgia and Tennessee, the headline, it is just a standard, George's defense, preps for its greatest challenge yet. Marsh leibel, he'll be joining us in a little while. How about this article from the athletic Tennessee's offense in the eyes of those who run it? And try to defend it. It's hell to stop. Yes. Nick Saban, that's pick up line one and confirm that. Open week allowed Alabama. Football, QB, Bryce, young a chance to heal up. He has been banged up for a couple of weeks. You all know mister week. So what are we going to do here on a Thursday afternoon? Bob kesling. The legendary voice of the Tennessee vols on the amazing season Chris Lowe, who lives in Knoxville, Tennessee graduate, he'll join us as well, and Mark schlei, who happens to be a Georgia graduate. I wonder how we worked that out. Let's say hello to you and get to you some phone calls in a moment, the phone number, of course, is 855-242-7285, a reminder. Tomorrow at this very moment, we will be live on the campus of the university of Georgia many, many guests, including the head football coach, the athletic director of the president, some of the young people who will be covering the game, Meghan Moroni, she wrote the song Tennessee R and she will also join us. Remember the story. She's a Georgia graduate and she wrote the song about wearing Tennessee orange. She will be with us as well. We are raring to go here. So let's move on and start this afternoon with Jim in North Carolina. Hello, Jim. Hey, how are y'all today? I want to comment good, good. I want to comment a little bit about what Daryl Georgia said yesterday. Yes. About how Clinton, how Clemson's schedule is not up to theirs and all like that. I just want to point out that Georgia schedule, Georgia has looking at the teams that are currently ranked in the top 25 Georgia has played one. Clemson has played three. And Georgia, just about got beat by Kent State and Missouri. And their second game of the year was Sam for now. I want to Daryl even know where Sam bird is. Well, if he doesn't, I'll be happy to let him know it's in Birmingham, Alabama. Okay. Is that where Sanford and son is? No, Sanford is a baptist university. Sanford and son is a TV show from the 70s. All right. Y'all have a good day in go tigers. I know you don't like them Clint from tigers that much either, but I think they'll do all right against Notre-Dame. By the way, Sanford son was really a funny show. Fred Sanford. Played by red fox. That was a good one. Didn't you think that was a good show? Man, what happened to shows like that? Now you have shows like this. John is up next in Louisville. Hey, you'll win an Oscar one day. Hey, you left something out in your introduction. When is Griff going to be on? Griff will be on tomorrow. Okay. I mean, John, you know the grift deal. He's on Thursdays unless we are at a Georgia game on location and Griff has to be on location with us. Well, that's why I thought he'd be on Friday. I had to ask great show yesterday. I mean, you had guests or calls from all over the world. He had just been playing the Alabama victim card. He had Dave messing up with that moral of the story that just got worse. And you had Jimmy the cop is alive and well and finally the undertakers. Yeah, we had two, we had two funeral home, one director, one of the wife of a director, defending the last one. Yeah. Yeah, I was invited to the John. I hope you can go with me to the I'm speaking next May at the funeral directors of America, national convention. Well, then last one to let you down. So you should arrive there early. It's going to be interesting. Yeah. The first week in November, there's three things you're always going to see. It's the end of the pumpkin spice drinks. Kroger's rolls out. It's Christmas decorations. And fans bitch about the meaningless CFP rankings. Don't you think? By the way, I was flipping around the radio dial this afternoon and I ran into a Christmas station already, and why is Christmas music going? And then I realized you're right. We are only 7 weeks away from Christmas. Yeah. By the way, I'm going to agree more with Gucci and less with your configuration auggie. Jimmy Sexton represents all the coaches, including the liberty coach, the Mississippi coach. He's going to decide who the next coach at auburn is. I agree. Jimmy Sexton should well, I think he decides everything. I think he will decide which way the House and Senate will go next Tuesday night. Yeah. A quick question, bob. The transfer port, as you know, has changed the rules, there are two 60 day openings and then if a coach is fired, you have a 30 day opening as well. Do you think with these changes that's going to affect the timing of both firing and hiring of coaches? It could. And by the way, speaking of the, I think there's more NIL news on the horizon, but John, thank you for the call. Really do appreciate bubba. Bob. Oh. Hey, bubba. Hey, your phone line has been busier this week in a set of jumper cables at Alabama fans funeral, son. I like that. Hey, hey, when you get grand from there, I want to know why he's doing interviewing Jeremy Pruitt for this Georgia Tennessee game. I thought it was an interesting choice of interviews today. What do you think? I think Griff interviews Jeremy Pruitt every week. And you know why he interviews Jeremy Pruitt? Yeah, that's probably the only person that will talk to him, but that's it. I know you feel sorry for him, but. I don't really. I don't feel sorry for Jimmy, Jeremy Pruitt. No, you don't feel sorry for your favor, do you? Oh, I do feel sorry for Griff. I won't get back to the Kentucky game Saturday. I told you back in January, there's no way Kentucky would come to kneeling and win that football game. And everybody banana PoE and mayonnaise drinking interception machine of a quarterback pregnancy right, but go big orange. And we've got some happy callers today.

"Know where Tennessee is with Josh hypo after Saturday. They're in a better litmus test in college football in the SEC than Alabama and knocks those going to get all kinds of attention this weekend because of it. Yeah, I mean, there's even a scenario we talked about in my series XM show that if this is a college football playoff game for Tennessee, if they end up beating Alabama, they could potentially lose to Georgia not go to Atlanta for the SEC championship game, run the table, find themselves Matt at 11 and one, we've seen Alabama take that route to a college football playoff. So I wouldn't spend this bigger picture now. Who do you think a real contenders right now? If we're talking Tennessee, we're talking Alabama talking Georgia outside of the footprint in the SEC, who are those contenders that you still think are in it. So you're saying teams that aren't in the SEC are different. Okay, so it's obviously Ohio State Penn State Michigan. Those three are contenders in the big tent. Penn State Michigan take care of themselves this week and you're going to find out who's who after that game at Ann Arbor. That's that conference. If you go to the PAC 12, I believe you see LA is more of a complete team than USC. Wow. That game's going to decide itself in the final week of the season. Should USD get out of this week in a live at Utah. It's a weird line. Utah favorite. I think we had three and a half at home. So you're going to have to keep an eye on that one. So I do believe that PAC 12 still has a path with the LA schools going down the stretch. When you look at the ACC, it's clearly Clemson everybody else. It's just been that way. Florida state, they've had a couple of losses now. They've tripped up NC state with Devin Larry hurt. I don't know how much of a factor they're going to be for the rest of the season. And some of the other teams we thought maybe would have a good year coming back just aren't. I know North Carolina's got the one loss, but it's going to be Clemson and everybody else. And then when you look at the big 12, I'm so intrigued by this league the rest of the way. Kansas, everybody's darling. They've got their one loss after TCU last week. But now you got a pair of unbeaten and 8th ranked Oklahoma state and 13th ranked TCU. If one of those teams finds a way to get through the regular season with one loss or maybe unscathed and they're still within that top 8 to 9 because of the round Robin format I don't know that you can count anyone out from the big 12. Having said that, it's a dog eat dog conference because of that format. And so they're going to need to have a team be incredibly special. The rest of the way. But for me, you're probably looking at two SEC teams again and I would not be shocked with how the big tens working itself out, no one wants to win the Big Ten west. Let's just say Michigan has its loan loss to Ohio State vice versa. You get Penn State in there. You could potentially see two picked end teams as well. No, it's amazing. At the alliance, I wonder how they feel about that. Now RIP to the alliance back in the day. My man, who would you rather be right now? Would you rather be Texas fans after what you saw against Oklahoma and the trajectory, sarcasm, especially when Quinn plays? Or Josh hypo's Tennessee volunteers fan. If you had to go out there and you're adopting a fan base, which one would you take? Oh God, that's the either or I've been asked in a while. Because I love Austin, I'm gonna go src and Texas. I think God, how you gonna ask me things like that? Sorry, my bad. Look, what Texas has to go faster than they're going to the SEC, so they're gonna see what that gauntlet is, do you like burnt orange better or Tennessee orange? Where would I rather have a beer? Man, I've never been stumped before. The 5th. Play the 5th. You're fine. Leave the 5th is. Just say you got a call one of their games and you can't take a stance. How about that? I'll take the team that starts with tea and wears orange. I love it. Hey, you got a game coming up tonight along with all your duties. Talk to me about the space game. And there's like 16 teams that could say that they're like the space team. What's the whole drama about all of us? This is it. This is face you. I mean, look at those uniforms, right? There are 35 miles from the Kennedy Space Center. This is mission 6 for these space game. They win the uniform award every year when it comes to the space station. Wait, wait, Matt, this isn't a bit. They're actually wearing those jerseys. I thought this was like a promo picks up. PV, that's what we're going to do. Right there. I mean, isn't that spectacular? And by the way, so the theme behind these uniforms tonight is exoplanets. I think those are the ones that are in outer outer space. And there was a plan exoplanet founded a decade ago by two UCF alums. They find planets here. We weren't doing that in Arizona state. There is now doing that in LSU. Speaking of that, last one before I let you go, what's the future for Arizona state? If I put Matt berry, college football aficionado on the search committee, who are you saying, hey, this guy needs to leave the sun Devils. All right, there's two guys. I'd give you. If you want an established head coach that I believe is humbled, Matt rule, I'm not going to say everyone's saying Matt rule. I would hire Tom Herman. I would give Tom Herman an opportunity. I think that job fits him perfectly. I'd love to see Tom Herman. And if I'm not going experience head coach, I'd go get Kenny dillingham offensive coordinator at Oregon. He's from Scottsdale, went to high school, played high school ball, and Scottsdale went to Arizona state. He's 32 years old. He's an offensive mind. And this would be a destination job for him. He's not gonna be one of these guys, come in there, try to collect a paycheck, or eventually leave for a bigger job. This is a guy that's on the ascent in his coaching career, and he's local. That's who I'd give the job to. That'd be who I have. You sold me on Kenya for no other reason we see Josh hypo, right? And former offensive coordinator got that job over at UCF did a fantastic job left it in good hands for Gus and I know he's happy not to be at auburn any longer, especially with that big buyout. He's always smiles and then now like new blood in college football is great for everybody. Matt, you're going to be awesome on the call, man. We appreciate it. And remember, next time putting, left hand low, cross handed. It'll save your life. I'm going to I'm going to go left hand low and congratulations being

"Here. This is the Paul fine bomb show hour three podcast. And we are back, we appreciate you being here and we'll get to your calls in just a moment at 8 5 5 two four two 7 two 8 5. We mentioned our country music guests in an hour and we'll talk more about that. We're going to show you this name of the song is a Tennessee orange for those of you who have not heard it and you will hear it later on. The lyrics here by Megan maroney, you can see that on the screen for those of you listening on the radio, I'll do my best to just read the lyrics, took me to Knoxville last Saturday and I wore the hat on the dash to the game. It sure wasn't Athens, but I fell for him under those kneeling lights in Georgia. They'd call it a sin. I'm wearing Tennessee orange for him. So I think you get the key to the song. She went to Georgia, and she did. And her parents are red and black. And she met some guy who treated her well, and she now wearing Tennessee orange for him. It's a cute song. I'm humming it all day. And I may even sing back background for when we get her on. Let's get to the calls. And Davis is in Wisconsin. Hello, Davis. Yes, sir. G slash father life from the pina gallery. Mississippi state fourth quarter and Boston rules was like quicksand and Napoleon mckellen was a shipping of mine. But I just want to know what the keys are for a bully to beat the aggies and I want you to have a great time in the grove and you'll be blessed and thank you for your wisdom and your mentor. Yeah, thanks, David. I think we were talking to mcelroy, he talks a lot about the defense of Mississippi, obviously Will Rogers and there's some concern about a and M, especially without anaya Smith. As Billy lucci told us yesterday, they have plenty of depth there, but he said that they don't have the leadership. And that could be a big deal on the road in a critical game for a and M. Let's check in with Harold up next, a hello Harold. Harold, how are you? Let's talk about Nick Saban during his career. Some of the things he's done besides coaching. How important was this? Thank you back to some of how reigns references. How important was it that he led a Black Lives Matter March college to foster auditorium with the players? I mean, how many coaches would do that? And not how many politicians could do that in Alabama and not be. Hurt badly. Well, I think the key to answering that question is to look at the coach who did not handle that situation very well. And that was at Osiris. He was insensitive to his players needs at that moment in time. He went on television as you remember and ticks a lot of them off. While Sabin always has steered clear a politics, but Saban did not look at this as politics. He and others, others did the same thing. Kirby smart and a few others. But he also understood his team. He heard he listened to them. He heard from the leadership council and he reacted and because he has so much credibility. He was able to, he listened, he took a lot of flack on this show. There were more than. But he didn't care because he knew he was making the right decision for his team and it turned out to help them to a national championship. Right. And like I said, if a whole bunch of people had canceled their season difference because of that and when the bothered him, hey, that's what he believed. That's how he helped his team. And that's why he's so much more than a coach. And that's got to be, to me, one of the finest hours in Alabama history for him. Interesting, you mentioned that because I don't think I have not heard many other people mention that. You get the cliche answers. And I don't mean this the wrong way. He gets a lot of credit for the tornado. That was there was a lot there, but I think in terms of his team, what he did with was probably more important. Oh, absolutely. One thing I do miss about the old show. I miss him. You would say things just were so incredible. I remember one time. There was some talk about Mississippi and homeless and you made this. Mississippi still burning in reference to the Gene Hackman. Working for the SEC network, that wouldn't be a good idea now with it. Well, Harold, I am playing by different rules. I think that would be a fair statement. I am often reminded of some of the articles that I've written, which was really, for those who wonder how this all started, and it doesn't really matter now. I was a newspaper writer and became a talk show host. And ultimately, some of the stuff that I wrote, as you know, because we've been talking for almost the entire the entirety of my career in Alabama, I would crawl under a rock if you called up and asked me about some of those articles these days, Harold, because I really wouldn't want anybody to know that I wrote them. It was so witty in the middle of a conversation, just have someone with the intelligence that you had. We know that the truth of the mayor Harold is I'm just not nearly as bright as I used to be. I tend to doubt that. But I'm an after all. Your first now, your second far right at the radio. Was with you and the legendary John forney. Right. And what was the name of that show? Sports and stuff. Yeah, well, I do very much miss all those days because, I mean, we would veer off this. I just got hit up by a friend of mine saying, can you get back to football? We talk enough about football. But that show was not we were not on a sports station. And for all, for Jim, who believes this show went downhill the day we got to ESPN. Those who agree with him actually point to the moment that I left the news talk station to go to go to a sports station as the biggest change in the show's history. But the thing about sports since the thing about sports is you and John would get all kinds of calls from people that I remember. I think from a guy who had just had intimate relations tonight before. We could cause now Harold from people that are in the middle of intimate relations, I think. Okay. But like I said, I know this is a promotion from you and but I do remember something you've said before. That if it were up to your better half, you'd move back to Alabama tonight. You remember? I do remember saying that. And part of that was because she's from Alabama and I was telling somebody today who didn't who I just met for the first time. On the phone, that I wasn't really, even though this was a great job. It was dependent on whether my wife agreed to go. And if she said no, then I was going to keep having that great show. Where I was. But she surprised me. In fact, shocked me. So that's why we called you to go for it. Go for it. And there were some specific reasons why she agreed. She heard some things she liked. But and I'm glad we did. That was almost 9 years ago. More than 9 years ago, it's almost ten years. And the most important thing when you make a life-changing decision like that, Harold, as you know, is you hope you hope you hope it doesn't end quickly. But fortunately, we passed that point. Okay. Have a good day, Paul. Thank you very much. We'll take a short break as we continue to pay tribute to my life. More of your phone calls right after this. You

"I can't tell you how many times today I'm playing this song. Megan, so you write it, you record it and take it from there on what happened afterwards. So after right after I wrote it, I sent it to my mom who is a die hard Georgia fan and she was absolutely disgusted with me. She was like, surely this is a made up story, right? But yeah, we decided that we wanted it to come out in time for football season because I think anyone that understands the SEC and all the rivalries gets the song and I liked it so we put it out and it's done really well. So it's been exciting. Yeah, I mean, I've read variations of the amount of the streams that it's had and I know it's moving up to charge, which is really what it's all about. Usually you put a company record label puts all this stuff out. Where are you right now with all this? I'm completely independent. So I don't have a publishing deal. I don't have a record deal. I have a manager and a booking agent. And my friend does my tour management. So that is the team right now. And by the way, I mean, to get a song moving up the charts without being hooked in with one of the big companies and Nashville is fairly unusual, but you've had some success. I mean, how are you able to other than good music, I guess? How are you able to do this? I don't know. I mean, I think TikTok is definitely helped. As soon as I posted the first snippet of it, it kind of went viral and then once people knew the song was coming out, it continued to blow up and it became a trend. I mean, I think I've seen people switch out the team names and stuff with the song, so yeah. Have you heard from anybody in Knoxville at the school yet? I have not. You may after this appearance. And then I mean, I'm surprised to me and I know other artists have obviously Kennedy chesney grew up in that area and he's written about his love for Tennessee and so have other people. I think Morgan Wallen as well. But I mean, this one is just the reason why I think this is different. I'm not a music critic, but I mean, you're cutting to the court of a lot of relationships where Georgia tend to see Alabama auburn and I think that's why it's so unique. Yeah, I joked and I said it was as close as I could get to a love song 'cause I don't really write too many love songs, but I do think as a Georgia bulldog wearing Tennessee orange is quite the statement. Well, the game this year is in Athens, as I'm sure you know, I think it would be great if you came down and performed it there. You might need some extra security. In terms of what you do with it now, when you're I mean, obviously I know you're part of a tour at the moment. What has been, how has it been received when you're playing it live? I mean, I've only, it's only been out for what three weeks now. And I was on the road. I think last weekend, and everyone already knows the words, which is absolutely crazy. And I haven't played in Tennessee or Georgia. So I guess it's resonating, even though it's not, I haven't played in Athens or an Oxford yet. Well, nobody cares what I say, but I am demanding that this song that you sing the song at Neil and stadium. I've heard Charlie Daniels there. I've heard other entertainers over the years. It's not unusual for Tennessee to have a halftime act. And can you imagine considering how well Tennessee is playing right now? A 110,000 people. I think that would be pretty cool, wouldn't it? Right, yeah, that'd be awesome. Well, we are going to work hard to make to try to expedite that happening. And I think this is a good start being on a show that is probably on in a few rooms and at the university of Tennessee. What next year? I know you're on tour, but in terms of are you going to do you think you'll come back to this theme at all? Yeah, I want to put out a stripped down version. And then I've got, you know, I'm on the road this year and the next year, new music, but I think I hope that it turns out like a Christmas song where every season, it gets everyone remembers it exists. So I don't want to blow the whole concept here, but you're still a Georgia fan, right? Oh yeah. I plan on going to Tennessee Georgia game, and I will be in Georgia red. I'm not wearing Tennessee orange and well, there's a chance we might be there. I have to see that. The idea of you singing Tennessee orange wearing a red and black is just a showstopper. Yeah. For sure. Well, Megan, congratulations. It's a great song. We appreciate you making time for us and all the best. We hope to see you soon. Thank you. I appreciate it. What an incredible story. I don't know if Megan helped her cause there to play it new and stadium by saying she'd wear the red at Georgia. But anyway, it's a really cool song. We will

"For the final hour and we appreciate all of you being with us. We talked about this earlier today about this country song that is climbing the charts and it's all about love of the lot of someone who loves the Tennessee valves. Let me say hello to Megan maroney who's joining us now, making first of all, we are delighted to say hello to you. I heard this song a couple weeks ago and it's in my head and I'm so happy that you could make time for us. How are you? I'm great. Thank you for having me. Let's talk a little bit for a second about you and then we're going to share with the audience something that millions have already seen and heard and that's the song. But tell us your backstory. You went to Georgia, which is really the key to this whole episode, isn't it? Yeah. I did go to UGA graduated in 2020. And I kind of got my music start in Athens. I went to school to be an accountant and I came out a marketing digital marketing and music business major. So. You get into country music, you start touring with some major names from Chase rice to right now. Jamie Johnson and many others. So how did how did you make this pivot from what you studied and what you got a degree into what you're currently doing? Yeah, so in college, I was a freshman and I was in a sorority and we had a philanthropy event where we hired John Lang's syndicate play show and they needed and a free opener, which was me and I played the show and chase rice was there a month later he had me come open a sold out show so I played my first real gig at the Georgia theater in Athens and I kind of fell in love with it and then I changed my major and just kind of prepared myself to be able to move to Nashville after I graduated. So you've had a couple of other songs that you had an album out a couple of months ago and you've had success, but I think this is a sports show, obviously. We're just, I'm fascinated. I went to Tennessee, so maybe I'm more fascinated than everybody else. But how did tell us the backstory on this song and what was behind it? Okay, so I moved to Nashville after graduation, obviously. And when I moved here, I met a lot of Tennessee boys, a lot of Tennessee balls. So I kind of had a crush on one of them, and I found myself. It only happened one time where I had a shirt on. That was a Tennessee shirt. But because it felt so wrong, I knew I could write a song about it. And that's kind of it's definitely a true story. Okay. I think we have, we're ready to play the song. I want to give everybody a little bit of a snippet of what we're talking about here. This is Tennessee orange.

I guess it's time right in what I just want to say, I apologize for my language last time. I called in I got a little too excited. This one is to talk about gamecocks again right quick and I just want to talk about the carrier joiner and they should have used them more, I think it was pretty obvious that he was frustrated. He wouldn't get on a fuel and I just think it's pernicious to us to not using because just in a subtle way that means probably the best all around athlete on the team and I just think they've got some weapons as they're not they're not executing Paul and I just don't understand it. After review a fan for so long and I'm sure a lot of gamecock fans will be mad at me, but when you have been a fan as long as I have and it's just more stress every time you watch them play either the offense is on key in the defense is not or it's the other way around and I just wish that we could play to the caliber of the athletes that we have. And that's what I was trying to say last time when I called is you have these schools from the Mac and the sun belt and those they play as a team. I just wish that we could be a crash for the call and you'd be well. Doug is a Nashville hello Doug. I'm a first time caller for a long time saying. Thank you. What I want to ask you is what did you think about your Middletown state Miami game? Well, I was impressed with what middle did and just horrified, but what I saw from Miami. I saw the I saw the last ten minutes of the game. So I didn't see anything before that. Well, do you know what milk Tennessee's all time football record is against Miami? I do not. Three and O, when was the previous meeting after Saturday before Saturday? 1930 and 1931. I had a feeling it was a long time ago. But that was still a big game for middle. Oh, no. I've had some friends who have coached there. It's a really good football team and a tradition. And I was pleased to see it. Listen, thank you very, very much for the call. We will, let's see. We have a really interesting guest on the final hour. We don't have a lot of entertainers on, but a young lady wrote a song about Tennessee football that's now moving up the country charts, and we are going, I think you're going to kick out of it. She went to Georgia. And it's about meeting a Tennessee fan and the name of the song is Tennessee orange where an hour away from that conversation. Let's go to Nick next. It's a really good football team and a tradition. Nikki, are you alive? Yeah, I'm alive. Okay. Glad to hear that. Hey. No, this is, this is Sean Hannity. I mean, who do you think this is? Oh, I think it's Paul, but I'm saying that watching your show and you're talking to another guest, and now you're telling me, how long have you been watching the show? Don't you realize that there's a delay or if you're just not figuring that out yet? No, I figured it out, Paul, but I've been sitting there watching the show for the last minute you're talking to guests and then you answer the phone. I don't know what's going on, man. I'll tell you what, the next time Nick will send a FedEx truck to your house. Unless you know you're the next guy. You're all right. Hey, I was going to talk to you. About James call. Yeah. You know, when you go to the gym about how to make the show better and stuff. And I would just thinking about that, mowing it

"To another day in this ought to be a really good one. It is Tuesday as we begin to say goodbye to September, but we have a lot to share with you, obviously you've heard about the hurricane in freaking havoc. We'll talk about what changes it may have had on football games and there are plenty out there right now. The hurricanes have affected the gamecocks. They'll play SC state on Thursday in Florida has moved its game with eastern Washington to Sunday. We'll give you more information about both, but obviously Tampa right now, the sample saint Pete area in the eye of the storm affecting pretty much everything in its wake. Meanwhile, from the state of Alabama, they got a three game stretch that will test the tide to put it mildly, Arkansas, not that big of a favor there by Alabama standards, Texas a and M and of course they're at ten C what about LSU? Brian Kelly, heading to auburn this weekend, then has Tennessee. And let's break some news here. He said, this month will tell us a lot about ourselves. Yeah, you see the percentages there. Pretty good chance against auburn, even against Tennessee there. They're looking pretty good in every game, but Alabama is that possible? These are just predictions. Remember, there are upsets every week. The dogs are looking for a playmaker as they head to Missouri. They may help them find one. Kirby smart, unhappy with the most recent visit against Ken state. On this has new headline headline here about the helmets. You like it? Almost always has a new trick up its sleeve. Speaking of all this, we will be there Friday afternoon. Well, that's what is making the news right now. We'll talk to some of the people that are helping to make that news and including Ben portnoy about the changes. Later on, GM will join us. And have you heard about Meghan Moroni's new hit? It's called Tennessee orange. Country singer just came out with a song. She's a Georgia grad, used to wearing red, met a Tennessee boy, and he has her wearing Tennessee orange. Sounds catchy. Well, when the Tennessee volunteer ranked as high as they are, even country music songs make Tennessee fans feel better and you will meet her here in a couple of hours. Let's get to the phone calls right now at 8 5 5 two four two 7 two 8 5. We begin with Bill in Napa. Hello Bill. Hello, mister. How are you, sir? We are doing great. Thank you. So we're obviously being brought flowers, fans over here. Known to kids that she's ten. And now he's the last couple of games he's again bursting on the scene after a little slow start only at 95 yard in the first couple of games. So a couple of questions. One, you know, they're projecting him now when he comes out I'm sure he's going to probably come out his junior year. With his skill set, never seen anything like it, really. One, do you project him to be a higher tied in pick than pitch came out when Alabama drafted him for or excuse me, Atlanta drafted him forth overall and then have you seen have you ever seen anything like this kid as far as a tight end? And where do you rate him as a tight end and your experience of seeing him? Yeah, Bill, thanks for the call. First of all, let me make it very clear. I am not a draft expert. So I don't rank these guys. I leave it to the experts to do so. And then we see how accurate they are. I mean, to me, he looks in the same zip code as pits, I think he's one of the most unique players I've ever watched. So he can do pretty much everything. And it has become an incredibly valuable position on the field. Thank you very much. Charlie, from wicksburg, you are next up. Hello, Charlie. Paul, you're making your show great again. Thank you. That's the aim. Hey, you know, cockroach callers. I've never heard you put Jeff in his place like that before. Congratulations on making that Big Ten guy going, hey, just let's face the network. What you doing calling us? And you know, I like legends. Legend makes a show better and you know what? You want to talk about some low hanging fruit. Jim. Oh man, he kills crawling back. He quit show. He shouldn't Jim down. I mean, he's just calling back and Jeff jumping on his bandwagon. And you know, I'm in sort of being cordial these days, they ain't got much to say about those banners 'cause I mean, look at what kind of shape hearth in there. But you know what? Let's say some prayers for mom and here's for all these SEC won't be out there that can keep their auditions far from body. We got nothing to lose. Those are we can tell by the lines that we're starting to see seeing that movie too. Seth is up next in Kentucky. Hello, Seth. Hello, Paul. Hi there. I was curious what you thought about how Kentucky receivers have kind of bursted onto the scene and they've done really well over expectations. Yeah, they have and I'm really looking as we talk to will Levinson. I'm really looking forward to seeing Rodriguez join the party this Saturday and Oxford. Hey, thanks for the call. Things are really going great for them. Dan is in Louisiana. It's been a long time, Dan. How are you? I'm doing good, Paul. Thank you for taking my call. Paul, I'm excited about tigers. They are on the road. But why aren't they even considered in the rankings? They're going to have to be Tennessee before they'll be right. Yes. Well, I think so. Dan, considering they lost to Florida state in what was essentially a home game and the only played one other decent team since then. So where do you think they should be ranked? I think at least in the top 25 well, they're being Mississippi state and that's it. I think you're going to have to wait for them to play a couple of better teams, Dan. And they will. Auburn, Tennessee, Florida, Ole miss Alabama. Don't despair over the rankings. It's way, way, way too early. Chris is in Louisiana. Hello Chris. How's it going, Paul? Hey there. Hey, I wanted to see you. Do you think Brian Kelly is the right guy, sale issue? Yes, I do. I think he, I think he's a tremendous improvement over the previous two coaches and I know what those previous two coaches did, but he's a much better coach. I think it will take him a little bit of time to build a championship program, but I think he's putting the ingredients together right now without many of his own players. Let's continue. And gene is a Nashville. Hey, Jane. Yes, Paul. I wanted to mention two items. Number one, the last three times LSU in Tennessee played. They insist on both teams using the same uniform colors, orange and white, and of all the games I've ever seen anywhere. American football needs contrasting colors on the field more than any game I've ever seen. The other question was a New York Times story last Saturday. It said that the UCLA going to the Big Ten is not a done deal and the general counsel for the University of California said that they do have the authority to nix the whole thing. Yeah, I think on the UCLA situation, gene, I think it's highly unlikely that that will happen. I know there's a lot of politics involved. The governor got involved, the big pact row of commissioner got involved. But I think that move is going to happen because there's just so much money and besides there's so many bad feelings. UCLA needs a shift right now, they are really suffering, I think, where they currently go and there are few schools that are more dependent on one another than UCLA and say, hey, thank you for the call.

"Reverse to switch lanes. That is an unsatisfactory answer. Until my back feels right now. Very unsatisfactory. Leonard fournette is going to be joining us here on the show. Biggest news of the day without a doubt is that arch Manning is chosen University of Texas to play as collegiate football crafts indeed. I just, I don't think people understand how massive this is. This is a massive this is massive. The most anticipated college recruitment probably in the last 15, 20 years. Obviously the lineage there, being the nephew of Peyton and Eli. Everyone wondering where he was going to go, was it going to be old miss LSU was in the mix? Georgia was in the mix and to go to Texas what a coup for Steve sarkisian, Matthew McConaughey. And that's right. And all the other longhorns. This is massive, especially with UT now joining the SEC. It's just going to be awesome. When do they join the SEC, not next year, but the year after? Right, he still has one more year of high school, obviously. He is going in. So the year that he's going to the SEC is the year he arrives. Right. He will usher Texas into the SEC. Is that what it is? I think so. And already projected to be the number one pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. You know, the first year that he would be eligible. I mean, anything less than a national championship. Heisman. A Heisman Trophy. I think will be a disappointment in the arch Manning longhorns era. It's a pretty big deal. Pretty big news. 2025 is when they join the SEC. Okay, great. So it'll be his what? It'll be if he's next year. Sophomore year. And then he'll come out after his junior year. He'll be the number one pick. And then I don't know, don't demand, don't demanding stay on for. The lore might be too much for saying not anymore, rich. I can't wait to see what his NIE NIL do is going to be. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a high school NIL deal this year for his senior season. Can you do that? I think you can. That's what Chris and I were. I've already said that might keep him in school that extra year for his senior year because he's going to make more money so much money in his NIL deal that taking a NFL contract would be financially a step down. How much, what's the difference? Tennessee orange is much more bright than the burnt Texas. Can we do Cooper Manning a favor and say he's Cooper's son? Instead of Eli and Peyton's nephew. Sure. We can do that because we know the Manning family. Casuals, I think. Can we identify him as cuppers kid can we do that? How about Archie's grandson? Archie's grandson is great. And Peyton and Eli's nephew is great too. But Cooper's kid. This is Cooper's kid. Copper. As they refer to him in that family. The funniest way. Funniest man. The funniest Manning is Cooper. Oh, I think that. I mean, he's not hilarious. The Halle Berry JB smooth commercials, right? Cover meetings pretty funny. And I remember the night that arch Archie Manning got the award for the Pat Summerall award for saint Jude children's research hospital. I hosted that night at the Super Bowl. I think it was a Super Bowl in New Orleans. I think it was the year, yeah, that's what it was. The year of the har bowl, and he received the pat summer award, Archie Manning did. And I just remember all three of his sons speaking first..

"The significant thing you just said, as this season comes to an end for a moment. I'm going to work under the assumption that he's coming back. I think that's the safe play today. That's true. A lot of things, two games to play. But he has to face recruiting, which is under pressure. He has to hire new coaches. He has to come up with a different philosophy and he also does he not have to make sure that the players that he has stayed. Yes. I think that's a lot of what's informed the quarterback position this entire season. That's complete conjecture on my part. We've done a couple of their games. That statement hadn't been made or even implied by the coaching staff at all, what we're doing this to a piece. Who would, what coach is going to say that? But we've seen this before. And it is part of the strategy it has to be. Now, whether it includes playing times a different conversation. But we've seen it coach Saban did a couple of years ago on the field at FSU, made it very clear. I got to be careful here. I don't want, I don't want my guys, especially that position to leave this program. So I do think that the concern might be that they hit the portal, but there's the other side of it too. And, you know, we've seen even at Tennessee this year where Tennessee is way ahead of schedule, they have definitely benefited by the transfer portal. Yes, players left them. Henry toe toes, playing good football for Alabama right now, and he used to be wearing Tennessee orange. But hinden hooker was at Virginia tech. You know, javonte Payton, he was at Mississippi state. They picked up some guys that have made a difference. That same thing can happen at Florida. They might be able to pick up a couple of flyers on some guys and it doesn't sound like the recipe that Florida has typically used because it isn't, and you're in this talent rich state. But in the age of the transfer portal, the idea that Florida couldn't rebuild and rebuild quickly, almost instantly, I do think that it's very much alive. I don't know that recruiting turns around this year. I think that's going to be a real challenge. But I do think that there's opportunity in that portal, and it depends on how some of these teams recruit at the positions where there might be some veteran players going wait a minute. I don't want to be splitting time with some 5 star who just rolled into town. Maybe I'll go to Gainesville. Before you go, you were in Tuscaloosa last week and the game notwithstanding. Just your assessment of this Alabama team at this point in the season, what you saw and what your concerns are. Yeah, well, it's obvious that they had some real concerns coming at LSU. Chief among those the offensive line play, which I do think a lot of it was owing to you see an injury to doubt court at center and react like, oh, it's just one position. Now, that necessitated a double switch. So now your right tackle has to go to sit in when I somebody has to go into right tackle. And that disrupted a lot of the things that they do up front. I think that they can get that fixed. I think they will get that fix is from a protection standpoint. Defensively, I think that a lot of conversation about the Georgia defense justifiably so. And they've got great players. I think maybe the best defensive player Jordan Davis is a really good one, but the one that can change a game that make a game changing type play, plays for the Alabama crimson tide and Anderson. I mean, the kid is he can do about whatever it is that you want him to do. And at 245 pounds, 250 pounds. The fact that he can line up down the middle of an offensive tackle and play run just stack him up at the line of scrimmage and shed the block without conceding any ground. And then also spurn off the edge out of a two point stance and bend that edge short to where he's running the corner or spinning back underneath, and pressing the passer as well as he does. You're watching them and you're going, this guy's in every down player. He's got all the tools that you would want and he uses them really, really well. And if they get healthy on the other side, I don't know if Christopher Allen is going to come back. But if he does, then that changes things for them as well. Defense, they look good, of course they would look good. It was against a team that they were intended to look good against. But I do think some of the difficulties they had versus LSU were circumstantial and owing to the disruption to their personnel, especially along that offensive front, and made it an uglier gain that I think it otherwise would have been. Matt Schengen always great to see you on these Tuesday afternoon early. Thank you. Yeah, thanks for having me, man. Great stuff. We'll take a short break. We've had lane kiffin. We've had Matt, Billy lucci Heather. We're going to take a break and get to your phone calls right after this..

"I think out of ten fifty one percent fifty one percent right now man but then self less shirt was a seven point one on the best days. It's seven i'll take it. Those those are those are the things you really don't wanna know kevin life. I think you and i can agree. We just want to leave that to not knowing But that was that that measurement that we were able to see it was consistent in our own examples in the from the from the studies that we were using as benchmarks. You can look better. They go there's some. There's some very tangible benefits to volunteering. Folks you look hotter sexier as richard just with his study another question. Wanna ask you to is. Did you know this is another study. You cited related to babies in whether the display selfish tendencies or selfless tendencies. And you know there's all these different interpretation of human nature right and your religion played a big part in your life as well. Different religion has different assumptions about. Are people born good. Are they more in bad. They're born centers. they're born a blank page. Do you think people are born south less or selfish. Now that you've written this book. Yeah because we did the chocolate studying lhasa square the circle study and I believe that we are born both And that we're not born leaning a were born by some studies that we looked at were born tending to be more self police but we do have both qualities In in our in our Based on studies again that we dug into we we have both muscle sets. What happens over time Especially in this time is just become too easy to be selfish. I'm in the very structures and mechanisms Of of modern business have helped us reach that pinnacle of me I have the guide given right of being famous that we all believe that it is something if you went back you know twenty or forty or sixty years. No i think everybody today for the most part every day at not everybody most people in today's age regardless of your age believes you have the right to be famous and that you can be famous and the structures around us have given us the tools to believe that we can both in technology in media In business everything is a round that vary right. We believe that were born with. So i think that is what is left. Pushed us into this idea of a selfish pandemic. because that's always what i can say. I i right. I should in because look. That's all the stuff in the ecosystem says i can but the studies that we were looking at with the with the children of chocolate and the children with a with a animated circle square in a in a triangle which were were really looking at so in in the in the triangle square and circle. There was a there. Were three objects and the they would measure where the eyeballs would go from the child and the eyeballs. It was believed to measure what they prefer always looked. Well not always. The majority of the kids looked at the object that was trying to push the circle up the hill. Not down to try to help it to try to help it. And that is one of the Such than children are born to be self less So yet to answer question. It is both with a tendency to be self less That's actually a very hopeful. Finding you know given the message which spread here is that it coming back to fifty one percent role is not like we're born completely selfless or selfish in any way but if studies so far have shown that at least we had a more self less tendency starting as babies and you know whatever happened happened with society and all that and maybe week like steered into a different direction but back core or that route is still there than maybe. We'll feel a little less intimidated by the fact that hey we can be more selfish because we were kind of born that way anyways working against our in you know in the book talk we do bring up the idea of darwin dawkins and selflessness in selfishness in nature and nurture and it's kind of nice to know that No or not built holy to just watch after ourselves. And that's right another thing. I wanna talk to you about is kind of your reflection on the asian american identity. Broadly speaking but also perhaps your interpretation of it as well a lot of the book surly weaves that thread throughout your entire life so far as well and also now that i know you were writing best from the beginning of the You know throughout the whole period and witnessing reporting on not just the health care problem of the pandemic but also the hate crime particularly against asian-americans that were occurring at a much higher clip than ever before. Certainly you know based on recording and data has your interpretation of understanding of asia. American identity change during this time at all. I mean on the topic of the identity included in to what was to be a a mainstream book if you will Because we are part of the mainstream and but we are stories just aren't heard It's not common even to this day for. I think people understand that. United dad was a pastor from a church in tennessee. Just not i mean it just you. Wouldn't you wouldn't think it and he would travel the tennessee. Every year for the gathering. My first college t shirt was a university of tennessee. Orange t shirt and really and i'm here in california. What am i doing. What are you doing why. Why are you giving me an orange t shirt. Why don't eat orange taste. And it's tennessee onyx and their bass cost of volunteers which may be appropriate in some put gave it to me is very appropriate but it was like i was just strange as a kid and i wanted to share these things about growing up as an american that is also of asian descent. Because it was. I thought it was important. That We we started to understand our communities. 'cause they were misunderstood in heaven misunderstood for so long and you know my father being pushed over five years ago to the ground was during another one for the local waves in the barrier of anti asian hate and it didn't reach the national level that we see now so my view has not.
