Fred Highlights a Couple of Plants Everyone Should Consider.
"Already had a couple of other plants. You wanted to highlight. I definitely do the one that has been highlighting itself for perhaps up toward two weeks and then again like all other tree families groups and so on. They don't all bloom at one time. Now they gather up at one time. But i have been enjoying immensely my own and then dozens of other japanese tree lilacs. They are technically lilac. They have relatively little fragrance. Unfortunately it's it's not unpleasant but it's just not much there. They are anywhere from a creamy white flour to Well whitish. I don't i don't know about snow-driven but at the same time they're they're very remarkable and you can see them literally if you turn a corner on a city street and they've used as a street tree you can see in three blocks away when you turn the corner. They're they're quite remarkable for a period of roughly two two and a half weeks there quite a sturdy tree. I have seen them now and now being the last x. number of years where they're being known well enough to be used as a retreat. I've seen them from. I'm going to call them saplings. On up to about ten inches in diameter and then i have to tell a quick story about driving the countryside many years ago when i thought i knew what a japanese tree lilac was and hadn't paid any attention. Anyhow i'm trying to get on county roads from one town in northern ohio to another. And i'm i'm i'm kind of beaten it on the road and i came over a rise in his. I looked down there. Were three of them. Yeah that i could see honestly for quarter-mile with up being any attention. I kinda hit the brakes. So i get a better look. I forgot there was a guy behind me. Yeah i don read sign language that remarkable though march they add and their their their finishing up right now but even after the glory of the flower and the little little flower
Be Careful Not to Water the Verbena Too Much
"And welcome back and fred You and i were talking a you talked about. How maybe her begonias. We're getting too much water. And they were saying that some plants some of the bloomers. Some of the annuals just can't take too much water. And and one that we talked about was ver- beena verbania is a beautiful little plant. A little it'll get get up into the eight ten inch range and eventually multiple flower heads and and Various colours available even to the extent. Mark and i were talking about one is purple with one little red stem coming. It could be what's called a sport or a mutation it could be a second little seedling sneaking along whatever it may be but it's one of those plants that i have killed three years in a row by by not paying attention to my own concerns. I put it where i wanted it. Not where it wanted to be. Yeah it. I put too low in the bids now. My beds are not high. But they're still water runs from. We'll say the property line in through the bid to the grass line and then carries off. So that i get water off the lawn watered down off the bid and so on to where that's the last area of to dry. It's the first area for the beena. Diane so the best way to tell you is if the bed is slightly elevated then go midway up the hill so to speak or upgrade to put those in they just simply are at least from what i would like. I said i killed three years in a row. I fortunately the third year. Well i welcomed some some reflection where i stopped on time and said those so-and-so's are not gonna make it again so i was still tied to biza manuals and i. I went to the guard center and replaced them but Well i i don't know i should tell you a story like that but still in all Rabin is one of those things. That is quite prolific and flower Sturdy as it can be but not with wet feet. It just it just quits. And that's not good
It's National Paper Airplane Day
"National paper airplane day today and that is a true story that i a little open there. I would make these paper airplanes. I would get this perfect little point on them and they would like throw them up in the classroom and get them stuck in the ceiling. Many people did this also with pencils. it was really safe. You just wouldn't want to be there during an earthquake. That would be a bad all the stuff falling down on you so national paper airplane day today. The best way to commemorate the day of course is to fold a paper airplane it around the house. They go That could be your day. It's a particularly wendy here in california. At least the bay area so that might help now. The flight i dunno. You gotta make a perfectly aerodynamic The far this flight is i. Guess what i'll go for today. Which currently is two hundred and twenty six feet ten inches. I'm gonna to see if i could just take that just a little bit more. Beat that record today on. The record was set by joe. I you an aircraft designer adam mcclellan air force base in north highlands california so maybe that california wind is well to help him out. The plane by the way was of course constructed from a single sheet of Cut a four paper.
Early Spring Means 'Last Call' for Transplanting
"Now i know that this is the time of year when you say it's the last. Call for transplanting. Yes now by that. Meaning i. I'm looking at several things in my yard in the near area that are starting to put out leaf wise and or even flower wise. I would say that right now. You either have to get the transplant done. Sap like noon today or soon or wait until the new growth has hardened off with some sunlight some growth and so on. Because i think to move things when they're in full. Spring growth is is detrimental. Now i know it has been done in a commercial sense. You just have to do some things when you want to. Instead of when the plants best suited but I don't see any reason why why not i. I didn't do one of the things that's going to do this week. I have to fatten. sassy brilliant. Yellow chrysanthemums. I was going to move the monday Tuesday wednesday thirty now. We're at saturday. They're not done yet. I because they have only just started. Oh maybe an inch and a half to two inches of growth. I wouldn't hesitate to pop them out. Divide them down the middle etc and replant them but things that are coming on for example. I have peonies right now. That are oh at least ten inches and one plant is it features itself in good son and so on. It's almost knee-high already. Buds are setting. And then i have a japanese tree peony that has put out about. Oh three almost four inches a growth. The buds are starting to set. I would not even think about moving it at this point now i also have. Then what's a little little. It's a fern leafed peony that is Very very very fine. Textured leafs
The Camera Bag I Use 90 Percent of the Time (and why)
"When low perot released the streamline one fifty in two thousand thirteen it was intended for lightweight vacation travel with a compact camera. It's multi device design offered a dedicated storage for a seven inch tablet smartphone compact camera and personal items now. This is a very cool bag in the sense that it only measures eleven inches by ten inches by one inch and it stays flat against the body as one of the things. I like about one of my complaints about many camera. Bags is that they kind of you know the bush out there like pillows pillows on a strap and you know they they stick out the they bang against things they're they're noticeable that other people and with the streamlined because it's basically a square levin inches by ten inches the only one inch thick. It's on the shoulder. You can work cross shoulder and you're in a tight situation you put it under your arm while cross shoulder and people don't even see it right unless they're really looking looking that close then you need change direction so to speak. It's also helpful for when the weather gets really bad again. You just tuck it under. Your arm is protected. And you get to wherever you need to get in only weighs three quarters of a pow yet. This thing this design. I was working at low pro at the time when it came out. Now it's going. This is a really cool bag. Of course i saw things differently than a lot of folks in because this was at a time when diesel lars were still roaming the earth right and so the lo pro in particular with thinking. Yeah you know big backpacks you know you got to accommodate that seventy two two hundred millimeter lands and you know dsl are with a grip and all this kind of stuff. And i'm just going to
Samsung offers a big TV update with TikTok app, MicroLEDs and more
"Samsung held its event today to unveil some more. Tv news. What were some of the big headlines so as you mentioned they pretty much told us all the important stuff or the important stuff already knew their new neo q. Tv's some micro led tv's but they saved a little bit for now Because these teachers are just sitting stores. That's kind of the idea. Usually a big event where they talk about pricing availability. These things you can actually buy them now. So that's happening. These are on preorder for the most part so the biggest thing that came out was a tiktok app. Actually the phone centric app is making. Its way to samsung televisions. It's actually already available in the uk but this is the limit late tiktok as you may imagine so. We're getting that app soon. Samsung says real timeframe there. So that allow you to watch those videos on your samsung tv. And then of course that really plays well into their their weird cerro. tv roj. it's this thing that rotates. Yeah i wanted to ask you about the ceremony. How that plays into this because it was. I think it was introduced not this year last year. Right and it rotates similar to how a phone would rotate from portrait to landscape mode. And back. how how's it going to work. There's there's also an update to this. Tv as well right so what. What's the latest. So so the cerro recap it's been out for about a year the us It's a forty three inch. Tv seventeen hundred bucks really expensive from forty three inch tv. But what you get for your you know. Significant cash outlay is the ability for the screen to flip back and forth between Landscape which is your typical television. You know orasanin view the sixty nine screen to flip up into portrait mode. The idea there is that you can mirror your screen on your phone. Blow it up really big and it looks just like a phone. A big forty three inch phone and now tiktok. It allows you to play those vertical portrait mode videos without any black bars bars on either side. So it's really perfect for that or a lot of people record their their phone of videos in portrait mode to those look fine images to on that. Tv screen so it is kind of market as the tv for like the mobile Millennial generation and just to be clear the tiktok app. It's not it's just consuming tiktok feet right. There isn't like a camera built in tv. Alleged shoop tiktok videos right then and there. No so this is. This is just a browse tiktok videos. In fact it is really designers browsing. You don't even need a tiktok account to use the app you can just like fire it up and start watching Tiktok videos to arts intent data like they serve because talks one of the keys keys. The tiktok success has been the algorithm Pushes relevant videos to you in a nonstop stream. Is that if you're not logging or you just getting random popular tiktok themes or videos. You're getting stuff that's the most popular trending But then you can also say stuff. You're interested in when you first get on the tiktok app installed. They'll ask if you are interested in. You can go to those different categories you know for example sports entertainment pop culture whatever and you can have shown up as well so again. It's designed to be as as uninterested as possible. You just kind of have these. These videos served up to you and We'll see what it looks like when they when they watch it later this year all right well another announcement is this new size. Option for a micro led tv. Let me guess there. They're still crazy expensive right well. They haven't officially announced pricing. I asked him a on a call. You guys what's the price of leasing. They still are being cagey about that. But just what you know these. Tv's micro led. Is a brand new. tv technology. Samsung is pushing. It's really really really expensive. Supposed to have spectacular picture quality. If not as good better than ole ed. But you know it's a gigantic sizes so right now the first one hit the market is going to be the hundred and ten inch and selling in korea for about hundred fifty six thousand dollars so just set the stage for what kind of television wire this is aimed at now. The news today is that they're also going to be stepping down the size down to seventy six inch. There's a ninety nine eight inch size so these are really really really large. Tv's really really expensive. Bottom samsung can do
Amazon To Release An Alexa Command Center
"It's mark gurman scoop tuesday though. It's not an apple scoop today. Sources are telling gherman. That amazon is developing wall mounted echo device with a large touchscreen that can serve as a smart home control panel a video chat device and a media player all in one quoting bloomberg the company's lab one to six hardware division is designing the device to be a digital command center showing users upcoming calendar events controlling accessories like lights and locks and playing music and video. It would include amazon's alexa voice. Assistant and microphones and a camera for video. Conferencing said the people who asked not to be identified discussing private matters the product would compete with professionally installed smart home control screens from the likes of control four corp as well as apple's ipads framed into walls and even amazon's own echo show used with a third party wall. Mount amazon is considering multiple variations with screens of either ten or thirteen inches in size. A ten inch display would be on par with the current echo. Show while a thirteen inch. Model would be amazon's lord ice with a display. The company plans to launch the devices. Either at the end of this year or the end of twenty twenty to the people said prices ranging from two hundred to two hundred and fifty dollars have been discussed internally though the plants are still early and could change or be scrapped. All an amazon spokeswoman declined to comment and quote in the early two thousands right win text messaging was taking off. I thought somebody should produce a device that would sort of collect all of a family's text messages into one central location so that everyone could see them and coordinate activity accordingly. I imagined it may be being embedded in a refrigerator or something like that. So is this sort of like that. A family hub. Sort of thing as adrian. Wexler tweeted quote. Those home of the future stock images are suddenly closer to reality and quote
How to Start a Bonsai Garden
"Well i suppose there's limits but there's not much that can't be grown a bone inside trae when done carefully there are books it their classes on it So enjoy it. It's something to keep you to during the winter of any year and especially when we're so to speak trapped inside. I hope all of your being careful wearing masks. What your hands and all that good stuff. So let's let's just have some fun while we're doing now when i think Bone cy i think of like an evergreen type plant A pine or a spruce or something like that. So if i wanted to get started with bonsai what would you recommend. And how do you get started. Well mark let's go to those two seedlings i have run their deep deep in the debris of the beds. I knew they were there a year ago. Now they're they're this fall. When i cleaned up they are presently The juniper is i don't know maybe eight inches ten inches high Fairly narrow and upright like it's project and then the tax is lord knows which one Right now i can tell you. It's more of a horizontal grew. But i will dig those in the spring. Oh let's just say that being earliest probably march fifteen and then sometime hopefully before the middle of april while before they have gotten into really has it grew. Because i'm going to have to dig them. I'm gonna go out quite away sideways. And then we're way in to see where the roots are where their masked if there is a mass and then they will go right into the trays but they will have most of the soil that they started in shaking off off. Whatever i will then go to a very good mix of potting soil. Lots of lots of brigandage lots of water retention but not not sopping wet at any point in time. I will start them. I'm going to call it flat in the trade. I have several now old enough. That they're sitting above the edge of the trae by an inch and a half. They're starting to kind of look like a normal forest tree. In a very miniaturized way mine are not fussy. They're not sick. They would not be judged well in competition. They're just a lot of fun for me. So mark anything. Like that i have used The seedling of a privilege plant. I have used the ceiling will actually cutting that. I started of a A zillion now. Elliot's are a little tricky. I didn't have particularly good luck. This has been a while back. Haven't restarted that. But i have seen some magnificent zillions in bloom in bonsai trees. Pear trees maple trees. I tend when i'm looking for it myself. I tend to go for things that happen naturally. Small leaf and then by retarding its fertilizer and its water and so on. I can cause those leaves to be even smaller And then i have taken. What is this or rubber tree. Plant one of the indoor plants. And i have i think. Probably six or seven cuttings. That has now started to route. I'm looking for a proper trae. i'm gonna start a miniature forest of We'll see how that works out. So i may talk about it again along the course of this next year in terms of what kind of weapon having with the ceilings of this indoor plant which is a tropical They would have to come in before the temperature gets wet. Now let me tell you. I take mine outdoors in the summertime on a bench of the house. They get a full half a day. So they're in good shape and then they get shading the afternoon. So anyhow that being the sun factor. I leave them on the bench until the temperature in the fall. Hits forty five degrees on low night. Then they start coming in under the deck deck but under patio top and then into the house before that is the topic was come into the house and the others in on the ground in the compost bin. Half of it. I stack them usually flat on the ground. But a couple of my. I've kind of leaned in. And then i put about ten twelve inches of oak leaves over the top now scattered. I don't try to make out of it. All i wanna do is insulate them against fast freeze and thaw. And it's rare that i lose what in the wintertime so that's kind of the score and anybody can start them You will be digging taking either plants that are potted in a garden centre or whatever and there are many of those little ones that that you can start in the bone side trade. You just simply take them out of their pot. Usually wash off the soil of the roots. You could see what you're working with. Cut off the lowest ones work with the ones that are nearer the top of the soil in the container and then spread them out right on top of about a quarter of an inch of soil. Half an inch of soil in this container and then put some well now putting oil and then put some potting soil over them. Be sure very sure that the container drains They can be suffocated quickly with too much water. So big holes. For drainage i think screen over the top of that so they don't lose a lot of water and then i always put them on a tray indoors. They're they're bound to drop off excess water when i'm watering so always into a tray of their own For my furniture's safekeeping.
Super Bowl is here. What TV should you get and what are mini-LEDs
"So let's start with some practical advice and talk about the super bowl which the sunday think actually haven't been really watching the nfl myself but let's most it's all right but for folks who actually do care and wanna watch the big game on a big tv. What are some of the top televisions you recommend. So you mentioned the biggest sharpest. Tv at the top all start by saying unlike last year the super bowl is not going to be in four this year out so fox went out and went full pulled out all the stops in in two thousand twenty for leicester super bowl and they had a four k truck they did all this great streaming and four k this year Cbs's handling it. They said we asked them. Like why. why aren't you guys doing four k. This year back the answer is with everything. Else is covert related. Apparently you know it's an issue to get everybody together and extra staff and everything to to make the fourcade production work so right off the bat. We're intended ep. Land which is fine. Still expect a four k tv So right right now again with kobe. We've had some weird things happening with the tv a inventory for example my favorite tv of the year. The tesol six series is kind of hard to find right now so my top pick for the money at the sixty five inch and larger size because hey for football you wanna go. Big is a video m series so that thing is about six hundred bucks right now. It's on sale one hundred Less than normal for the sixty five inch size A great television for the money and again at that price. It's it's pretty hard to pass up. There's really nothing that inexpensive the forms. That well i know i've got a video believes in series on your recommendation. I'm more than happy with it. So you're in good hands with cats his advice now if you had a limitless budget and let's just say hypothetically he was broadcasting this in four k or heck even eight k even further sir what was sort of what would be the the the top tier high intelligence to buy right now so that's continues to the lead roger. The oh led tv's from lg. You're my favorite the ten. Looks like when you see it printed out online that. Tv's actually on sale right now a little bit. They saved the lowest price of the year. It's actually hundred dollars more than it was in black friday but still on sale compared to regular price Sixty five inch for a two thousand dollars again. That's the best. Td on the market. If you just want to pull out all the stops that's a great television and then if you wanna go crazy this seventy seven inch size is down to its lowest price yet at thirty three hundred again again. Crazy amount of money for television. You can definitely get an eighty five inch seventy five inch. Lcd for thousands less but it's not going to perform as well as a led technology. It just has great black levels. Superb picture quality no issues with angles. Yada yada yada. It just looks great for football and everything else afterwards. That's spending Ludicrous amount of money on televisions Is a good segue to the other part of our discussion. And that's still look at this new type of television technology called many led. And i know. I had jason heiner on couple of weeks ago and he kind of gave us a kind of a quick run through but For those who weren't listened to that that episode nine on why you weren't but For for those of us who don't know what many led can certainly give us a quick definition what it is where it stands in. The hierarchy of different led televisions so many led. The first thing. I'll do is not to be confused with micro. Led so people. Make the mistake that you know many. Led mike really do the same thing. They're not annoyingly their sound. Pretty similar but micro led is very different. It's the really really crazy when you might have heard of. The samsung tv called the wall. Two hundred inches plus Samsung just announced that the latest version of it which is one hundred ten inches off and they priced it in korea. Two hundred fifty six thousand dollars in case you're interested so that's crazy crazy crazy. Expensive brand new. Tv technology really promising but a few years down the road before anybody can afford it. Many led is kind of an evolution of standard lcd tv technology so it uses smaller led back lights and tcl who i mentioned before makers of my my favorite tv right now. The tcl six series that television uses many led and it's very affordable. So what happened is is that samsung and lg pretty big names in the tv industry announced that they're also going to be selling many led's tv's so in twenty twenty one we're going to start to see an influx of competition for those televisions.

"ten inch" Discussed on Gamer Talk Podcast
"Co for preorder so that that includes everything from the pops to the keychains. To the sodas thing so i for the platoons also these are all common pops and the pages that i follow. Plant of The Week: Bristlecone Pine
"With a plan of the week mark is one that is of structure it is a good nature. And it's very specially grown here at my house. It is one of the oldest plants on earth as far as anybody knows they're they're assuming that between four and seven thousand years old. They won't even tell the public where the tree is out on the west coast and then there are others in the two thousand to four thousand year range. I don't know who can tell anybody's been living. That long probably is not able to write much but at the same time they can do borings they can do various tests bristlecone pine is normally in the eight to twenty foot. Now that makes it a small tree for for your consideration also on rare occasion given extreme age they'll hit up into the fifty foot plus range but very very very slowly. I happen to have one that It was ready unique. It fell off the truck when it was delivered to the nursery but forty years ago. and it's Got badly broken onside matter of fact or one side off so all of a sudden now. There's a plant this just The one eighty part. I thought well. Now here's the chance. I took it home brought it home. I finished proper pruning of it. And i planted on a west facing brick wall between my porch and garage door. It is presently now mrs about a forty year period. It's presently standing. Maybe six and a half to seven feet tall. It is leaning against the brick wall. The west afternoon sun gives it the brilliant son that it needs. Then it's the hang which. I was delighted with the way. It took a hold It's it's pretty dry. Under most overhangs and with sufficient inadequate initially it took a whole and it grew like crazy about four inches a year. and that that's one of the beauties of it it's a rather Sculptured tree now you. You could look at that as a well. Let you say any of several words for recommendations. But it's irregular it's decorative and in my case. I've trimmed it to stay along the wall now. It isn't much to trim probably every other year. I have to be sure nothing on the side. Branches are sticking out beyond about ten inches from the wall. I don't want it to be able to pull itself away from the wall. Should we get snow or ice. Or whatever on it I have only anchored in two places over the long haul and rest of. It is handled with pruning and i won. One landscape showed up at my house a long time ago and was lamenting the fact that he needed to plant exactly like that and i said well you can have mine at the right price. Yeah he said. What's the right price. And i told him and he said okay. I'll have a truck here monday morning. Whoa whoa not serious. Not certain beauty now you can grow it. let's just say you're regularly It does require son and then the beauty of it is you. Don't handle darn near any soil now not not excessively wet by any means it prefers out west growing it well. The big one is untold is a very rocky gravelly soil. Sandy When it rains which is not too often it will soak up enough water down deep enough that the roots can stay alive until the next rain which may be a whole year or some portion thereof so anyhow a very tolerant plant very very interesting and I highly recommend it. But don't don't don't plan where you need to get screening from the neighbor in short order because it isn't going to happen that way.
Photographer Richard Mosse on blurring the lines between art
"Now richard. Moss's photographic practice has resulted in some of the most arresting images of recent years as a conceptual documentary photographer. He draws on a range of esoteric photographic media to catch a so much more than meets the eye. Monaco's much. Larry spoke to richard to find out more about his unique and emotive work to those nine. I went to iraq. And i made a series of images essentially architectural project photographic project documenting the us forces who were based in the saddam hussein's palace architecture and saddam. Hussein had about eighty four palaces. All around iraq may which he never even visited when the us military arrived. They were so strategically well located for obvious. Reasons and very defensively built. They made pretty straight forward operating bases so they were occupied by the us military which i found fascinating just the layers of power and expression of that architecturally from the sort of provisional corporate office partitions and cubicles that the. Us army would hastily set up within the very pompous and often poorly built authoritarian architecture of saddam hussein which had a very specific style with some very strange eccentric ornamental features. Such as giant teapots and. Yeah it was very incongruous staff. And i brought eight by ten inch camera there and it'd be like that project and after that i realized frustrated with the medium documentaries over here. It's really so conservative as a language so reductive often. You're just an illustrator for writers texts if you're doing it at oriel which primarily. We're documenta over. Do i wanted to break it apart. Actually i wanted to somehow really smashes just for myself. It was a very personal desire to essentially as an expression of the frustration of with my own practice. I was at that time. Kodak was on its path to bankruptcy was announced had announced the discontinuation of this infrared film. Kodak erico two thousand ten. I think says nine around the time and so i thought well this is a wonderful way to unpack a documentary subject. I don't know what may be quite yet. But i gathered as much as i could off ebay and wherever it was being made extinct and i sort of worked backwards from the medium which i always tend to do actually to find to find effective subject or subjects that could be more adequately conveyed to be elevated through the medium through this particular medium and reading was a starting point for me over. The last ten years i've been working with spurred you call them infra-red film technology's very interested in the unseen registry invisible light forms as the way often metaphorically telling very complex documentary narratives more powerful way and to refresh very saturated subject matter for example the refugee crisis unfolding across europe the middle east north africa. Everybody photographer was out there taking pictures. And they all tend to look rather similar. And i really was. After a certain point the imagery just became inherently less compelling and less powerful as language. So i wanted to refresh my own way and i found this bizarre military grade thermographic camera that can image human body heat from thirty kilometres distance. Day or nice. It's classes weapon designed for battlefield situational awareness long-range insurgents detection tracking and targeting. So it was actually part of a weapon. System very sort of activated medium to think through the representation of the refugee crisis and also almost an aggravated one. Really confront the viewer. On some level with their own complicity. I believe and that was my intention to really make people feel that. And i think as an orange has that's one of the only things you can do is to make people feel something so i was working through metaphor aesthetics in this work but with that work with my project incoming its title and it was using this weapons technologies long range border enforcement technology. Thermographic heat-detection camera. I realized i was also operating in certain moments on another level beyond the metaphorical and beyond the aesthetic. And that was the the forensic after understand. The camera sees index heat register. You can calibrate for about forty degrees and anything. That's relatively cooler or relatively warmer within. That given frame is depicted in black or white depending on how you set the the recording set the image. And so something that's black. Could be everything that's warms. The human body would be depicted in black and everything cold surrounding him. Buddy will be waste for example or if you sell it. The other way white hart. It's the opposite. And i was filming this tragic event i've ever witnessed probably ever will. Hopefully it was one of the biggest human trafficking disasters on the gnc and human memory of three hundred people or more were on a on a fishing trawler was had paid to be on that boat from turkey to lead boss and human traffickers just packed that boat too many people who zone designed for perhaps twenty or thirty people so the top deck of the boat collapsed and doing panic entire hull ripped apart and we were able to capture all this from about seven kilometers away with camera designed exactly for this kind of thing and then when the bodies were brought to shore to the harbour of malvo's something store happy it was after dark at this point literally out on the cold stone pier they were lined up on thermal. Br red cross workers volunteers local doctors. Anyone who could could help out. Were were frantically trying to revive these hypothermic victim. Some whom passed out or semi drowned or some had had remain conscious. But we're literally freezing to death. And so they were literally what they were doing. Rubbing life-giving warmth from their hands into the flesh coddled flesh of the these hypothermic victims in front of us on the pier. Desperately trying to sort of transmit life-giving heat back back into them. Now a normal camera of course after dark wouldn't wouldn't be abc's very much let alone. Would it be able to see the trace of that of that transmission of warmth which the thermal camera was able to do incredibly effective articulation of exactly the crux of of the emergency unfolding around us. It was a of very powerful test. Testimonial footage of the the effort survive these people on the scale of a trauma around us. That was richard moss and do head over to our website to the full version of that interview.
All You Need To Know About Earthworm Castings
"Are going to talk about earth. worm castings aka earthworm poop. You know it's interesting castings as sort of a It's it's the standard term for the excrement from earthworms. It's what they cast aside. I guess that's where it comes from. It's a very interesting thing. It's like many manures and this is earthworm manure. Basically it was what we're talking about Like many manures. It has fertilizer value for plant. But earthworm castings turn out to have much more value as well. I feel like castings is a euphemism because nobody wants to say poop but there you go. I remember hearing about them. I probably ten or fifteen years ago. They're much more mainstream now. And at the time. I worried about using them in house plants and i realize now that that was an unfounded concern. Using the castings in in moderate amounts as a fertilizer is perfectly good for house. Plants isn't it. I mean this time of year. That's what people are thinking about. It is wonderful for houseplant. Wonderful for for most plant. Its first of all one hundred percent organic humus all right but the basic thing that makes it different from many other Fertilizers i guess. You'd say organic fertilizers is. There's a rich microbiological community going on in earthworm castings. That is good for your plants. Well tell me more about this microbiological community. Do you mean micronutrients or do you mean. Living things in the castings well. I mean Bacteria first of all But good bacteria right. That's number one number two. In terms of fertilizing value they are rich in iron sulfur calcium nitrogen phosphorus and potassium right but they also are believe it or not not all readily available to plant apparently in the process of going through the earthworm the castings get coded with something that makes the ingredients available to plants very slowly. Wait a minute. This is like nature's time release. Fertilizer is what you're telling me exactly. That's exact- that's fascinating. What is it nature this time. Release that is a wonderful thing. The people who have studied this and by the way earthworm castings have been extensively. Studied at ohio state at cornell. University uc davis and one study at cornell demonstrated earthworm castings suppressed damping off disease in seedlings. Wow all right. And they naturally degraded the protective covering of some insect pests so they dissolve the insect pest from the in. Yes so love that yes. At ohio state university they found that earthworm castings enhanced seed germination plant growth flower and fruit production. They curb to certain plant diseases. Including root rod and crown rot and inhibited. Insect pests including mites aphids. And mealy bug. This is like way more than just a fertilizer. Then it's kind of a magic pill a one thing you know. I wondered about is. How do you know how much to apply. And from what i've read. Apparently it's it's difficult to add too much. I mean you don't want you don't want a plant in solid worm castings but but it's something that you can apply regularly without worrying that you're going to burn the fine roots of your plants. Which is concerned with a with a commercial fertilizer. Yeah i think you know for the general rule that i use for house plants and we're thinking now in the middle of winter about plants indoors but the general rule that i use is about a quarter of a cop cop four a container that somewhere between six and ten inches in diameter.
The Best Smart Speakers for 2020
"Generation echo. Tout's improved sound while amazon's bestsellers the dot a smaller speaker akin to the radio to echoes. Fm there's also a new kids edition of the dot in dot with a built in clock. Google has what's called nest audio twice the size as the original google home and with way better audio quality than before apple has the homepod mini which is a pint sized one hundred dollars version of the original three hundred and fifty dollar home pod. Now if you'd like to know my opinion about sonic quality. I would go nest audio one amazon. Echo fourth generation to and the hoban many three that said homepods midi more useful. You've heard me say that. Now streaming partners apple only has it from apple music and radio from pandora tune in an iheartradio missing spotify amazon music amazon offers amazon music and apple music as well as spotify pandora tune in iheartradio mri on amazon youtube music. Google it has youtube music. Spotify and pandora is missing amazon and apple music. now there's also video display units amazon. Google had not introduced a new one. This year. amazon has a bunch of echo shows in five inch eight inch and ten inch screens and google. Had what was called the google home hub. Now it's called the nest hub matt's privacy. How do you feel about having your queries recorded. We'll all three do it. Apple less aggressively. Google amazon record in store every query us. Once you use the wake words amazon says it lets users opt in to automatically delete all recorded queries either every three or eighteen months and i say why do you record me in the first place. I don't want to opt in. Just don't record me. Google claims it snoop feature is opt in. But as i pointed out many times google puts the opt in and small-print as part of the app user agreements. Most people's zip right through. They have no idea what they're signing up for apple actually makes you work to opt in by going into the iphone settings and setting it up and of course be beyond music and television. You can use the speakers to control your smart home to turn on and off your lights and that sort of stuff.
Hurricane Delta steams across Gulf of Mexico
"We are following a developing story out of the Gulf of Mexico region. As Hurricane Delta takes aim over there you can see by the map let's get right to CNBC's shepard. Smith with the latest airship, it does look like it could be terrible for the folks out there in Louisiana, and Mississippi not going to be good not at all the the latest is five o'clock. Update five eastern we just got that bring it to you. I, if you look at the top edge of this, it's so close to land. It's incredible. It looks like that is going to go over parts of Lake Charles and points east. A lot of rain has happened already Jackson Mississippi over the last twenty, four hours. They're estimating ten inches seven to eight inches around Lake Charles and if. You look at the cone. For this thing, it's not just a coast storm. This thing is going to go inland and rain and rain and rain I want to show you the cone of uncertainty if you will for this storm and there it is category too when it comes to shore and then it will weaken very quickly still be a tropical system, but not a hurricane as it moves. UPS skirts along Nashes Mississippi into the Jackson Mississippi area. Jackson. Mississippi. GonNa have reigned for at least the next twenty, four hours. This storm has weakened a little bit but not since the last report, the new update from the National Hurricane. Center has the central pressure at nine hundred and sixty six bars, which is up, and that means the storm is weakening. You look at go back to that last. Loop. You can see at the bottom the is breaking up on the bottom. That's sheer. The I is falling apart a little bit not a moment too soon let's go to Lafayette Louisiana Embassies Jay. Grazed Air Force. Wow He's getting wet you Jay. Yup. Well, conditions really intensifying over the last thirty, forty, five minutes the rain picking up a wind as well. We've got up the tropical fun print. Don't want to walk you down to the Million River and this is what you. Got All this. It's already over banks here. That's going to be a big problem. We've got sick maybe seven of these conditions left to go we're going to see sheets of rain continues to fall in the Lafayette area we could see up to a foot of rain before Paul said. And Wind Gusts better go be over hurricane strength again it for you be a real rough ride here for the next six or seven. And as you were talking about, this is an area here like Charles just to the West that's already been dealing with the effects of Laura category four storm. So they've been working for six weeks now worried that that works going to be walked away by this storm of move in mighty tough Jay gray one of four correspondence we have in the either storm. What is show you the storm surge in exactly what that's going to be like he said, vermillion, they're expecting up to eleven feet of. Storm surge there much less over by new. Orleans. Mouth of the Mississippi two to four feet lake pontchartrain one to three feet. So it's not going to be horrible near new. Orleans. But on the west side of Louisiana Lake Charles, we've just got battered at the end of August. They still don't have roofs on most of their houses that place is about to get hit
Hurricane Delta Intensifies to Category 4
"In the Caribbean Hurricane Delta strengthened into an extremely dangerous category four storm today with the US Gulf coast in its sites. Let's bring roker with the latest al.. Lester it is now a strong category for taking aim right now on Mexico one hundred and forty five mph winds moving west northwest at seventeen makes landfall sometime tomorrow as a devastating category for out into the Gulf intensifies as a category four storm making landfall along the Louisiana coast some time later Friday night early. Saturday. The European bottle, a little to the West. But as you can see Lester from Galveston to New Orleans, we have the risk of the storm making landfall. Why a dedicated Zoom device makes sense
"You'll recall that earlier this week I had a lot of fun with that new Microsoft Eighty, five inch dedicated device for teams meetings. It's only twenty two thousand dollars little much for my budget I. Don't know about you but it's been a week for dedicated video meeting devices after that Microsoft announcement though I gotTa love, Amazon's answer which came later in the week, a dedicated ten inch unit for two hundred, fifty dollars the echo show ten, which lets you go through Alexa to connect to zoom skype or Alexa to Alexa direct calls two hundred and fifty dollars. Twenty two, thousand dollars I think I'll take the cheaper one Alex, thank you. I think these dedicated devices when they're priced, right make a lot of sense i. mean think of the kids were stuck at home taking school on their laptops. Now, they could have one more unit just displaying the teacher and lessons which would give their hands free for schoolwork and no taking on the laptop make sense for those of you who are taking meetings all day. The same issue applies isn't it hard to take notes when your laptop screen is filled with Speaker video windows. Plus this way you wouldn't have to worry Webcam placement after all his best to be at eye level which most people ignore and not have the Webcam looking up your Chin that requires putting the laptop atop of a bunch of books which gives you a better look, but it makes it really hard to type. So the savvy speaker or student would have to constantly move the books around that dedicated service on the desk would solve the issue living atop the. Books that could just stay there and not have to be moved around. So Amazon has the echo show ten, which will be out later this year it'll let you connect the Webcam to the TV via the hundred and twenty dollar fired TB Cube device. So so maybe it won't be watching eighty five inches how about fifty or sixty sounds pretty good p particularly when you consider that you can buy a good fifty inch these days for about three hundred dollars. Now, the Amazon solutions won't be available until later this year. But if you have a facebook portal video chat device, you can use the dedicated unit now to connect to zoom because the update started rolling out today. The portal started one, hundred, twenty, nine dollars, and they're available in three sizes at eight, inch, ten inch or fifteen point, six inch. The addition that connects the TV which is called. Portal. TV is not yet supported for the zoom calls meanwhile, that's not all folks next week on Wednesday Google holds its annual fall hardware product event where it's expected to unveil a new top of the line smartphone and updated streaming device and a new take on the nest home hub video display unit last year's nest. Didn't work with zoom or initially even with Google's meat though it does now but not zoom zooms coming later, and I know I can pretty much rest assured that the new Google video display unit we'll be working with zoom and hopefully working well

"Dorian was a category five when it hit the Bahamas. what's further pinpoint where Dorian is tracking right now we're joined by Joel Klein meteorologist with the national oceanic and atmospheric administration Jill where is it now some of the storms about eighty miles to the south of Charleson that puts about two hundred miles to the south Wilmington North Carolina the maximum sustained winds went up a bit yesterday afternoon at up to a hundred and fifteen miles an hour and a high is about fifty miles across the set up to the north about ten miles an hour and should get the dangerously close it's not on the coast of South Carolina North Carolina later today and then early tomorrow morning as a truck so that so many stories there alluded to that one of the biggest problems in addition to the lands is the water you get five they see the storm surge in and around just north of the Charleston area and then four to seven up for the rest of the coastline and it's going to impact plus the sounds of North Carolina then you put on top of that. six to ten inches of rain and even. well inland as you mention Rollie in the story two to six inches of rain back up in that area all those rivers flow into the sounds that sounds can't get the water out in time so that could lead to a great deal of flooding in those areas for you you reference early on Charleston and Wilmington doing those the two cities was just in the past few years have had problems with flooding and here they are staring at this again absolutely absolutely and he said North Carolina that whole area has been stranger to trouble storms in the flooding from them for instance last year they've had the troubles with Floyd in the past you go in the past so there's been many instances of times when systems and come in there and dumped a lot of rain and wind so the next thirty six to forty eight hours jewel looks like what for the coast. so it'll. firstly codes from records South Carolina up to North Carolina and then doubt this C. somewhere around the Cape Hatteras Outer Banks region and go out there and then we still can't let our guard down after that thirty six forty eight hours because the winds and the cities will be locked up around Cape Cod and and the Nantucket and Rhode Island areas and then it goes on and the camera as well we've been talking over Canadian governments as well as the people up and rain the weather service offices and Massachusetts and Rhode Island what is history tell us about we are Dorian ranks say in terms of sizer strange that this point. one of the big things was whenever he was down toward Bahamas course it was a strong instead of more than a slight common will be there in that time the pressure was so low at that time that.

Highs in the sixties and lows in the forties and fifties for metro LA, Orange County and the inland empire. We got to save water. Yeah. Remember, all the water restrictions that they put permanently in ten inches of snow in reading the whole town gets shut down. I keep going on. These are great. San Francisco's great highway closed in both directions to storm. So this is what they're experiencing. They always get it worse than we do down here. But obviously this is supposed to be biggest storm of the season coming through the jump several days. Some of that's coming here. Yeah. Exciting. This morning. On and off tomorrow. "Hey, Zack me, right? Recordbreaking lifetime coal rubes global warming. And this is what brain dead left-wing Americans retreated to it doesn't have to be CBS can be CNN MSNBC any local. News organization is going to report this same gobbly Gook. And they don't even they're not even afraid of the charge of hypocrisy. So they take call. Do you know that it is hot this time of year every year in Australia? Every year they have seemingly scorching hot summers. And it's always in January that's summertime in Australia. There's nothing unusual about it. So we've got lifetime record breaking cold in the upper midwest. But because it's summer in Australia. Proof that it's all global warming. I'm still struggling with how to overcome stupidity. That doesn't know itself is one thing if you talk into some stupid person knows they're stupid, you have a chance with them. But if you're talking to stupid any who don't know that they're stupid idiots, you talking ignoramuses at don't know, they're ignorant, if you're talking to stupid people who think they are, intellectual brilliant. You have an almost impossible task. Here is ABC is good Morning America. The chief national correspondent Tom yomas reporting about the cold weather in the mid west. This is incredible. We are in the middle of lake Saint Clair. We're off the coast of Detroit. This looks like an Arctic out here. But it's actually a lake. This is one of the busiest shipping lanes of the Great Lakes. The ice is so thick. We're actually up to walk out in the middle of the slate and this ice tortoise, see. But if you look through the ice, it's about eight to ten inches this ice everywhere. You look with this is a leg up. Take a look at how victim of this ISIS glaciers right here. Super thick nowhere to go. Sky. Sounds totally bath. Does he not? 'cause I'm sure this guy thinks this is not possible. The global warming people did not predict record breaking cold. They never do they waited happens. And then they claim it's never they're doing nothing but protecting projecting and predicting eat as you all know, they're talking about the greenhouse effect and CO two rising melting glaciers, that's what they're talking about. That's what all these doom cops are expecting. Now, we've got glaciers in Detroit, and this guy's baffled because they tell us the glaciers are melting everywhere. And yet here's one ten inches thick in Detroit. It can't figure it out. Mind-boggling? I mentioned this earlier, and I had emails you didn't make it up. Right. You're trying to make us laugh. No. Here we go audio sound bite number four. CNN tonight. Don lemon talking. He's a guest here with freight. Oh, Cuomo enter talking about Kamala, Harris, here's an interesting thing. That's happening. The whole idea of how does she identify? Does she identify as an African American? Did you see the thing going on on social media? Apply as a person of color because when asked by Jake, if she, you know, as a black woman, she goes as a person of color, remember that whole thing with Obama is he black enough that is different than identified. But is this an interesting conversation to me that I hear people talking about? It's silly. It is stupid. But it's precisely identity politics. They didn't a whole segment here on is Kamala. Harris black enough is she really African American just like we had to discover about Obama. You know, he wasn't all that dark, and then they found out. Well, he's half. His mother was white. Doesn't matter as influences are more important than. And they start running around and some of the Obama opponents on the democrat side. So he's not down for the struggle. This guy. Obama does not have any slave blood. They were saying this folks, if you don't remember don't don't doubt me. So Obama had had the counter this he had to counter the idea that he had no slave blood. Meaning that he was not down for the American civil rights struggle. So he'd go down to Selma. So I'm sorry. So you have to almost cry when you so. And the Reverend Jackson is there, and the Reverend Sharpton is there and Obama puts on just like Hillary Clinton when she goes to Selma. I know way tired and the crowd here. Those are black inflection impression and Obama did the same thing. I forget what words he said. But he started speaking in African American type dialect because he knew he wasn't down for the struggle slave blood. Well, they're talking about this all over again, Kamala Harris, she dark enough, she really really African American or not. And it's an important thing. These guys are acknowledging it, so Don lemon continued this in depth and very very important discussing African American is different than being black. You can be black and Cuban you can be black and Caribbean. You can be black, and you can be black, and, you know, South Africa, crispy experiences different as an African American someone who's culture and experiences are born out of the American slave trade and out of Jim crow is different than someone whose ancestors weren't. And you didn't have those experiences if you were born out of that if you have roots from that particular struggle say we're getting there folks, we're getting there. Kamala Harris, we don't know yet. If she down for the struggle. Obama was not down for the struggle. He did not have slave trade blackness. And he didn't he didn't. So these people are discussing are these black candidate darken make toodle white are they really us. And here's the the. I'm looking here if I can squeeze three things in here in the time it got left. Here's the next Don lemon bite. Let's just see what happened. I think it does matter. I mean, it does I think Barack Obama went through that. I do think that is an important distinction. Just like there are people who are from Italy who come from different parts, and they all identify as a talian. And I'm sure the same thing with Jewish people or with Irish people are black Irish or what have you? So I think that people especially African Americans people who, you know, their ancestors came over on safe ships and had that particular experience as a person of color in this country, their ancestors, and then beyond I think that that is an important distinction. Do you identify as a person of color, a black person or as distinctively an instinct, Italy, African American and? Struggles that the left is going through now as potential democrat nominees who are people of color began to tell each other how they identify because you know, person a caller is different than black as different than being African American different. Being Cuban American Jamaican American because it'd be down for the struggle. Well, this all lead, you got Barack the magic negro handing by their you know, what I'm gonna. I'd we're not forget the answer. We take the break. I because I'm not sure that time a Barack imagine Negron I'm up against it on time. So let's take the break. We'll be back in continue right after this. Don't go away about magic continue on the network. Ten.
