"Welcome to the Ultra Flex Football Podcast where we have fun with our friends while we talk about football and any anything else we wanna talk about. We're here for season two. I don't know if we're officially calling it season two but this is our second season of talking about NFL football. So, we're back. With me as always is Rob Green. What's up? And Ryan Wheeler. Howdy, howdy. Season two episode one is what it's officially gonna be titled and Tony, I told you not to talk so close to the mic, man. You like, blew out my eardrums there at the beginning but I just get excited. I know. You're so excited. You get excited so easily. We were talking about that before we like, actually started recording but anywho, uh so, we do that thing where we have an album and we split up the songs in the album and we try to get the song titles into the show as discreetly as possible. Sometimes not as discreet as we'd like to think we are but we're gonna give you our titles that way you know what to listen for. See how many you can catch. Just a little game within our show. My song titles, the album first of all is called Down to Earth by Jimmy Buffet. Rest in peace, Jimmy Buffet. It's his first album. Down to Earth. The songs that I have to get in are The Christian, LSD, The Missionary, and A Mile High in Denver. Rob, what do you got? Alright, I have the captain and the kid, Captain America, Ain't He a Genius, and Turnabout. Alright, and Sir Anthony. I've got There's Nothing Soft about Hard Times, I Can't Be Your Hero Today, and Truck Stop Salvation. So, we'll see if we can get all of those in. Uh most of the episode today is gonna be football. It's uh we we were doing some things during the off season to help pass time. Uh you know, Ultra Flex After Dark and having some fun with games and things like that but football season is here. Uh we're gonna be doing football talk here in a second where we're gonna pick our division of winners. We're gonna pick our Super Bowl, MVP, and then we're gonna pick week one games and then we'll have one game at the end. So, uh football, football, football. So, let's get it started with football talk. Just that really amps you up, doesn't it? Golly, that was good. It puts me in the football mood. It just, it feels like we're kind of, you know, whimsical, a little bit of uh goofy when we talk. So, I thought that was a good one for football, our football talk. Let's, let's start with, in my opinion, the less competitive conference which would be the NFC. Uh maybe you guys think differently. Um but let's go with NFC West. We'll skim over this if we all agree pretty quickly. Uh I'll go first. This one and then we'll just kinda alternate uh as we jump divisions but uh for me, the NFC West is the 49ers winning this division. Um I think they're the best team in the NFC. Any chance we can like we go NFC West that includes the that way for people that don't necessarily have the NFC West on the top of their head you're just gonna see that includes like the 49ers, Seahawks, Cardinals, uh Rams. Yeah, you just you just did it. Yeah, we can do it. Okay. Nailed it. Yeah. So, 49ers, Seahawks, uh Cardinals, Rams. For me, Cardinals, Rams are both gonna be pretty not so great. Comes out of the Seahawks and 49ers and I just think the 49ers are a better roster. Brian? Oh, it's next. Um I'm gonna go with the 49ers. I just think top to bottom, the roster is the best. Rob? Yeah, I agree but I wanna be different. So, give me the Seahawks. We hated on him last year. We picked him to be like what? One and sixteen I think cuz we thought they were terrible. Gino Smith's gonna continue his uh career turnaround, turn about. I don't know if I can use that here. And uh. And he's gonna lead them to a division title. Alright. They have the offensive weapons to do it though. They definitely have the offensive weapons. Maybe Brock Purdy isn't as good as he looked at the end of last year. We'll see. He doesn't have to be. They have Sam Darnold as the backup. I don't think that's why he doesn't have to be good but anyway. Yeah. I think he has enough weapons and Kyle Shanahan around him that will make him. Exactly it. Make him look good. Uh Ryan, I'll let you go first this time. We're talking about the NFC North. So, we got the Lions, the Packers, the Bears, and the Vikings. Who do you have winning that? The NFC North, I have the Packers taking that division. It kinda just feels like a crapshoot division honestly. I mean, I don't really feel good about my pick. I don't feel about picking any, good about picking any of those teams. So, I just want Jordan Love to be good because he's got an awesome name and quite honestly, that's that's how I came up with my answer. So, I was like, got the guy that has love in his name. I'm pretty sure from looking at this division, the odds are the closest bunch of four out of all the the division. Makes sense. So, it kind of is the most wide open division, I think. Who do you have? Yeah, who do you have picking, Rob? You know, our team last year was the Lions. So, I'm gonna I'm gonna bring that over to this year. Let's go with the Lions too. I don't even know the last time they won the division. Nineties probably. Early 90s, mid 90s. If they did then. I just don't know either. I think we'll find out pretty early AKA we're filming this on a Monday before the season starts. So, we'll find out in 3 days whether or not they'll be a pretty good team again which they have enough talent on the offense to put up points. It'll just. Yeah, what are we thinking like 60 points in that first game here with the Lions and Chiefs? It's gonna be a high score game. Probably, yeah. Yeah, no Chris Jones for the Chiefs and then the Lions don't really have much of anybody on defense. Um that means that yeah, they did what they took that linebacker. I can't think of his name right now. Um. The guy that everybody won the bills. Jack Campbell. Jack Campbell. Yeah. Yeah. Um but I agree. I have power on offense to be the best team in that division but I wouldn't would I be shocked if the Vikings or the Packers or even the Bears for that matter were to win it. Probably not. So, I'll go with the Lions. Uh the NFC East another compelling division. Got three and a half maybe. I don't know about Washington. Good teams. Um which the Cowboys, the Eagles, uh the commanders, and the Giants. Rob, who do you have winning the NFC East? Yeah, I like the Eagles. I think they're the best team in the NFC and I think they showed that last year. I think they'll do that again this year. Jalen Hurts continues his uh breakout. I won't say an MVP season but he could have another MVP caliber season like he did last year. Yeah, mine's gonna be the Eagles as well. I think their roster. While the Cowboys and Giants are gonna probably both win nine, ten games. I think the Eagles are just good enough to win eleven or twelve games and and win that division. So, Ryan, what about you? Yeah, I'm gonna be different and go uh Cowboys um not because I wanna be different but because I actually think the Cowboys are I think they have a better defense and I think their offense maybe not as good but I think they have a good offense and uh quite honestly, both these teams have pretty cake schedules. Um the Rob and I were talking about it earlier. Um sorry, we left you out of this conversation, Tony but the uh the Cowboys or I'm sorry, the the Eagles first was like seven games are the Patriots, Vikings, Buccaneers, Commanders, Rams, Jets, Dolphins, and then commanders again. It's like it's not that difficult. It could be six and one, seven and all. Yeah. And then the Cowboys was very similar. Like last year. So, it kinda feels like whoever wins this division is probably gonna win it with twelve. Twelve wins. Somewhere around there. Eleven, twelve. So, I just, I'm just gonna go Cowboys on that. That's gonna be a lot of my points in the AFC uh which we'll talk about in a second uh which is how hard all of their schedules are but uh last division um the NFC side is the NFC South. Could be the worst division in football. Uh we got the Saints, the Bucks, the Falcons, and the Panthers.

Josef Newgarden used a one lap shootout to grab the lead from 2022 champ Marcus Ericsson to win the Indy 500. You know, I wasn't looking to take anyone else out of the race, but I was going to put my car on the line to win. And I was either going to win the race or I was going to end up in the wall. Newgarden driving for team owner Roger Penske survived a chaotic final 40 miles, which saw the race stop three times for Rex. Major League Baseball the rays win a wild one over the Dodgers in Tampa Bay, correspondent Steve Carney provides the details. The Tampa Bay Rays used a 7th inning RBI ground out by wander Franco to break a ten ten tie and defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers 11 to ten. Both starters got hit around as Gavin stone allowed 7 runs in two innings of work, while Josh Fleming allowed ten runs in 6 innings, including 5 home runs, Tampa Bay finishes at ten game home stands 7 and three, while the Dodgers complete their longest road trip of 2023 with a four and 6 Mark. The Yankees used a 7 run third inning to defeat the Padres ten to 7, Aaron judge and Harrison Bader hit home runs to support winning pitcher Garrett Cole, who is now 6 and zero. This was a good team win today for sure. I mean, being able to kind of subdue them through the middle innings and keep the momentum. I thought played in our favor, but it's just such a luxury to have the offense. Other winners on the diamond were the guardians Orioles tigers royals, Blue Jays, brewers, reds, rockies, Astros, Marlins, Diamondbacks, Mariners, and braves on the PGA Tour emiliano grillo wins the Charles Schwab challenge in a playoff against Adam chic. It was his first PGA Tour victory. It over 7 and a half years. So it was great. The way it was definitely worth it, it was long, but it was worth it. Isaac Paredes homers as Tampa Bay Rays beat Los Angeles Dodgers 11-10
"Tampa Bay Rays used to 7th inning RBI ground out by wander Franco to break a ten ten tie and defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers 11 to ten. Both starters got hit around as Gavin stone allowed 7 runs in two innings of work while Josh Fleming allowed ten runs in 6 innings, including 5 home runs. Reliever Jason Adams says Fleming ran into some bad luck with good hitters, but managed to battle. So I made a lot of good pitches today. If you go back and look and they just found some holes, so they were aggressive early. That's baseball. And he battled for us, which was huge. We needed that out of him. So yeah, to come away with the wind and a well fought game like that is big for everybody. "Aaron judge broke a three all tie in the 8th with another mammoth home run to give New York a 6 three win at Rogers center. AP source: Packers extend QB Jordan Love's deal through 2024
"The Green Bay Packers and quarterback Jordan love have agreed to terms on a one year contract extension that makes his deal run through 2024, according to an AP source. The extension comes as love prepares for his first season as the packers starting quarterback following last week's trade of four time MVP Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets. The 24 year old and former first round pick in 2020 has appeared in ten games over two NFL seasons, throwing for 660 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. I'm get cool.

Scherzer suspended 10 games for sticky substance ejection
"Mets pitcher Max Scherzer has received a ten game suspension for having a foreign substance on his hand, a punishment he immediately appealed. The three time Cy Young award winner was tossed during the fourth inning of Wednesday's game in Los Angeles after his hand in glove were inspected three times by umpire Phil kazi. He said my hands sticky and I said, I swear my kids life, I'm not using anything else. This is sweat and rosin. He's the third pitcher to be penalized for such an infraction since MLB began a crackdown on sticky substances in 2021. Scherzer can pitch until the appeals process is completed. I'm Dave ferry.

Braves RHP Ian Anderson to have season-ending surgery
"Atlanta Braves right hander Ian Anderson will have Tommy John surgery and miss the remainder of the season. Tests showed Anderson has a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow Anderson won ten games for Atlanta last season after playing a key role in its 2021 World Series championship. The 24 year old Anderson began the season at triple-A gwinnett after control problems prevented him from landing a spot in the Atlanta rotation. He issued 8 walks and 7 and a third innings this spring and the struggles continued in his only start for gwinnett. I'm geffen coolbaugh.

"David pastrnak capped his 14th career hat trick by netting the game winner in the bruins four three verdict over the penguins. "The rangers damage the Panthers playoff hopes with the four three win at Florida. Patrick Kane scored the tie breaking goal early in the third period. It was Kane's 450th career goal. He played long enough, you know, sometimes you reach these milestones, so obviously not the prettiest one, but I'll take it. You're a slav halak stopped 31 shots in his first win in 5 star since February 11th. Alexei lafraniere and Filipino each had a goal and an assist to help New York win for the 8th time in ten games. NHL-best Bruins clinch Atlantic with 2-1 win over Tampa Bay
"The bruins have formally clinched the Atlantic division title with a two one decision over the lightning. Boston's 56th victory. The bruins are 6 away from tying the NHL single season record for wins with ten games remaining. Bee's newcomer garnered Hathaway scored a tie breaking goal in the second period. We've been looking forward to this. To a team that's in the playoffs, going to be in the playoffs and we potentially could see a team that's battling right now. Patrice bears are on had a power play goal for the bruins and lean is all Mark stopped 26 shots. Victor hedman had a shorthanded goal for the lightning. And Andrei vasilevskiy made 32 saves. Can this year's Bruins really be considered NHL's best team ever?
"As the bruins approach the NHL record for points, it's a good time to look at the current record holder. The 1976 77 Canadians, those habs finished 68 and 12 for 132 points, and they did it without the benefit of overtime or shoot out, considered one of the greatest teams ever, the Canadians could have easily won anywhere from 6 to 8 of those tie games. That would give them 66 to 68 wins and 138 to 140 points under today's format. Montreal's point percentage that year was a ridiculous 8 25. "The Cavaliers pulled out a one 16 one 14 win over the nets on Isaac okoro's three pointer from the corner with .7 seconds remaining. A Korra's late bucket gave him 11 points and sent the Cavaliers to their 8th victory in ten games. Cleveland trailed one 12 one O four with two 13 remaining before closing on a 12 two run. Donovan Mitchell delivered 31 points and Evan mobley added 26 with 16 rebounds. Brooklyn dropped its 5th straight game despite Michael bridges, who had a game high 32 points. Nikola Jokić scored 31 points and pulled down 12 rebounds as the nuggets beat the wizards one 18 to one O four, the nuggets outscored the wizard's 39 to 16 in the third quarter while hitting 15 three pointers on the night. Denver finished up a three and two road trip after surviving a four game losing streak. Jokic thinks they've turned the corner. Have a team, I think. Bedroom, let's say like that. And hopefully it's done for us. And we survived. The warriors win just their 9th road game of the season knocking off Dallas one 27 one 25. Jonathan kamino scores 22 points. John morant returned from his suspension to score 17 points off the bench in the grizzlies one 31 25 win over the rockets while Milwaukee improves on their league best record with a one 30 94 win over San Antonio, Giannis Antetokounmpo led the way with 31 points other winners or the heat pacers 76ers Timberwolves trailblazers and Lakers, Paul George is expected to miss two to three weeks for the clippers with a right knee sprain. Just two games in the NHL, but one had playoff implications for both teams, correspondent Bruce Morton. The penguin snapped a four game losing streak with a resounding 5 to two win at Colorado. Jeff Carter led the way with two goals. That's a big game for us. And standing defending cup champions and team that's been rolling pretty good. So this is a good confidence boost for us and keep going. Carter referenced a 6 game Colorado win streak, which also came to an end. The oilers Connor McDavid nets his 60th goal of the season in overtime to defeat the coyotes in NFL to use the jet signed wide receiver Nicole Hardman to a one year deal according to a person with knowledge of the contract. "Artemy Panera and scored the game winner as the rangers beat the sabers to one and overtime. Rangers head coach Gerard gallant says Igor sterk and keyed the win. Jessie was the key in the hockey game in a different he was outstanding tonight and that's a good sign. Panera and converted to blocked shot into a power play goal, two O two into the extra session. Patrick Kane also scored for the second time in four games since being acquired by New York from Chicago. You should stop 32 shots as the blue shirts one for the fourth time in their last ten games. We haven't talked to drew lately that we're kind of waiting to get the rockies in a decent spot and then they're not really and i don't think they will be but i'm still shooting for the ten games. Get back to ten games on her five hundred. And that's what we live with the rockies. If you're expecting more than you should probably give up watching the rockies because you clearly didn't watch anything in the offseason the took place. I mean if it'd be a shock of the world mclean says Who do you think was better this year. Lillard or luka doncic That's a tough one. Luca's name got out there. More no question about it. Lillard to me is steady eddie. That guy is so good all the time he gets no respect love to see him in a uniform that i know that's a different conversation but i. It's hard to argue. Luca had the numbers right. I mean i don't have their stats in front of me. Maybe we should've taken another fifteen or twenty games out of this season because clearly. They bid off a little bit more than they can chew. I'm i'm just looking at the quality of play right now in the league. I mean it's definitely the dog days. Whatever you wanna call it. We're all sort of in countdown to playoff mode. So rather than dissect andrei drums double double too much or that. Fluky boston celtics win over the denver nuggets this weekend. I thought we thought we'd look ahead to the playoffs. You know and defensive presence In a little bit of toughness he brings all those things to the court and then obviously on the offense advantage. I mean he brings Imagination is is the best way. I can put it. You know he's He's composed in terms of understands what he's doing in terms of running the offense and the sense that they want to get into the ball Who should get the ball and where they should get the ball but also he plays with imagination and flair. And you know all of that stuff has been really very valuable to and nuggets team. You know we'll say in the past we say well you know we There's just not a lot of energy on the court. And i just think those those those instances have been fewer this season. I think a large part of that is because Fox who comes out and just eight raises the energy level all the time and so i mean if he's out there With with you know kind of flying around. That comes contagious on most nights. And and so. The the energy level as a team remains high and so He's he he's intangible as much as tangible you know and and for the nuggets and so you're right you can look at a box score and go. Wow they're box score isn't fantastic but with your own eyes. You saw the impact that he had on a basketball court. And that's and that's where we are with falkland so if he's also going to be knocking in shots on nights like that then it's icing on the cake but you know at at the baseline is he's gonna bring energy He's gonna help your defense and then offensively he's gonna make sure that you stay on schedule on more often than you don't chris. What's the ideal spot for the nuggets. Obviously we can easily say number one in the western conference but sitting at four right now. The teams in front of them clipper sons. Jazz aren't slowing down. I mean i think all of the top four teams have all been like eight to nine and one in the last ten games. Jazz played last night. But where i where. Do you see the nuggets. But i think you're seeing this year how differently. They're able to play with him and him being able to stay on on on the court late in the game and that will translate playoffs. Wise but yeah. They're they're impressive app. Who's your other hot seen. My interest all say lukewarm team. My team that. I'm really i enjoy the hell out of watching but i i don't really i don't know where they're necessarily going Just because i think there's gonna be some trades potentially coming up soon for them and they've dealt with injuries and they had just had a recent injury to and that's houston rockets. A one on one point four defensive rating over the last ten games. They're offenses penn below league average but they still have a seven point eight net rating over ten games. They're seven and three John wall's been pretty solid shooting really well from three. He hasn't been a tremendous efficiency wise but he's been really good passing. Victory depot has been horrific efficiency wise. I think he's taking eighteen shots game right now. Shoot below forty percent from the field. I'm imagining that will come back in. You find more of a rhythm with the rockets but the biggest thing is just their role players have really looked good and not again. It's not even shooting scoring efficiency. Their defense has just been on a string. And so good like this is like. It's watching them. Play defense is like. It's orgasmic man like it's it's just the it's an experience i enjoy it. I'm not anticipating them saying you know this hot moving forward but they are you know if they keep everybody together which it's not looking like it there have been some reports that they might troll depot But yeah i so i don't. This website is so what are we. Don't it doesn't go back that far. So yeah that's the thing is like that's part of the reason why these books are important. These stories are important. Because when you go and you look for this information it's not there. It's it's missing and it's all your story on the winged wheel. I appreciate you come in to see. That was something i didn't. I'd never really dove down that particular rabbit hole and it was you know it's always good to hear a little here. I just love stories. And i love to know how i like. When it comes to you are for check or the way we wanna break out or you know the neutral zone trap or even the power play and the penalty kill that. That's their job to to take the film from the first two games of the season against minnesota see what they did right see what they did wrong and make those adjustments at nba able to come back and be prepared to shut down that the team and do be able to take away what minnesota was able to do. Well now as we look at those two games minnesota was able to obviously take control both of those third periods. And that's mainly came from minnesota being able to control the puck in the offensive zone behind you La's d. and wants minnesota can get possession.
