Australian leader seeks conciliation in dispute with China

"If you enjoy a glass of wine every now and then. You've likely tried a bottle from australia at some point the. Us is a big market for aussie vintners. So is china but now china shops wanting to carry australian wine face higher costs much higher. The chinese government has announced new taras on australian wine imports as high as a two hundred twelve percent tax on every bottle. It is a major blow to australia's wine industry as the world bank. A hillier reports. China is pointing the finger at australia and says the country is dumping wine into its market causing the chinese wine industry to crash. Australia says that's not true. Still because of the spike and fees the wine trade between the two countries has come to a grinding halt. The level of the tariffs essentially closes a market for experts. Say it will be virtually impossible for steinbeck's orders to send bottle bought into china for the foreseeable future tony lane. Ceo of australian grape and wine says people's livelihoods are already being threatened of the twenty four hundred australian wine producers who export to china eight hundred of them sell exclusively to the people's republic that now the markets that aren't still domestically they've set the businesses up puglia round the toronto market. And now. we're the next older will come. There's a lot of guess uncertainty. In fear and confusion james robson of ross hill. Weinstein is feeling the pressure. This is terrible news. He told abc news australia. That nearly twenty percent of his product exports to china where his customers usually place big orders in october to prepare for chinese new year. And we haven't done any of that this year because obviously that texting right. It's just not sustainable alley entry level one these ten dollars and that's gonna make it thirty. Even the big players in australia's wine industry are taking a hit shares in the largest one treasury. Wine estates plunged eleven percent when the tariffs were announced. But they'll be okay. Tony battling says because they can sell to other countries mainly europe the us and other parts of asia still under thirty five million liters of wine that is now going to be looking for a high finding new markets and forming new business relationships is tough though especially during a global pandemic and battling says those other markets won't be able to make up for the loss of business with china we got hundred seventy markets resulted. Even if i only christ bought fifteen percent that would still live. It's seven hundred million dollars in the red site. Clearly showtime Visit occasion is not going to work. Experts say the wind tariffs are not just about reds and whites relations between australia and china soured earlier. This year after australia called for an investigation into china's handling of the coronavirus pandemic since then china has slapped tariffs and restrictions on a number of australian exports including barley beef seafood and sugar agriculture minister. David little proud told sky news australia. That he's looking for clarification from china. Is that it is retribution. Rather than any specific issue that any whether it be one or the other commodities produced the trade war appears to be here to stay. China's commerce ministry said today the tariffs could last between four and nine months at this point. Tony battling of australian grape and wine says he doesn't see a clear path forward normally you can resolve economic disputes through negotiation. But with you can't get to the table. You can't get both parties in the same room or on the same telephone. You kinda negotiate in the meantime battling hopes australian producers won't have to sell their wines under market value just to keep the lights on

Pilot Holiday Gift Ideas: The iPad

"Why don't we. Why don't we start at the top end of the price range and and i say that You know we we. I'm looking at my list here. And i have about ten things on here and Probably the most expensive thing and probably in my opinion The the most useful thing that we have on on the list here is an ipad You know we talked about paper vs plastic on previous podcast on whether The the way to go as paper charts or plastic chair or or electronic flight bag if you will and Obviously we go with the f. b. Which is that's that's that's the wave of the future Pad is necessary so there are lots of different options with ipads memory size Cellular cellular versus non cellular. And what i will say about. That is If you are looking to purchase an ipad you definitely want to buy one with cellular capability and the reason is an ipad with cellular capability has a gps chip built into it and That way as you're using your ipad In the airplane you'll have your position your position will always be displayed now. You you don't have to activate the The cellular service on the ipad. So you're not. You're not having to pay a monthly subscription to that but you definitely want to buy an ipad. That has the cellular capability. And it's usually another hundred and thirty dollars extra for that particular ipad in so i think i was confused even early on. I'm kind of tech guy the the value of that additional chip you really instead of buying a third party external card that would provide that. Gps information you're getting that built into the ipad. So if i don't have a gps source by chance than the ipad will give it to me and you don't ever have to turn on the sailor services what you're saying correct that's exactly right. And and the occasional time where you might be at an airport that's may be out in the middle of nowhere and you don't have wifi capability You can very simply Get cellular service. You're going to pay for it. You're going to have to put a credit card in it. You may have to commit to twenty dollars for a given month but it's always nice to have that backup. I do activate the cellular service on my ipad And I i don't use it a whole lot because most of the time i am on wi fi but there are where you're out Somewhere and you don't have wifi available and you you'll want to file a flight plan or or or or or whatever Check the weather. It is nice to have that ability. But again you don't have to activate it so you don't have to pay the monthly fee. And as i'm sure varies by carrier. But i think mine's ten dollars device so if you turn it on its ten dollars you can turn it on and off pretty frequently if you wanna twos. Well you're just going to be hit with that ten dollar so maybe you don't fly much in the winter turn it off. Turn it on the summertime It's great so let's talk about size and size so screen size and memory size probably a personal preference thing. I wish the there was almost something in between the mini and the the eleven incher. Right eleven inches. Just a little too big for the board pad for me. Kinda thing the minis great. I have an old mini. It's time to upgrade my new to the newer mini for sure Because it's running slow. But i like many in the cockpit and i carry my larger ipad. My fly bag is a backup Any thoughts or suggestions there. Yeah i i it it's definitely personal preference though. The one thing that i do like about them many is It is it does mount easily on the oak In in our one seventy two it fits right between the two Handles actually and it fits really nice on the yoke I'm not a mount it type person. I usually just keep the ipad in my lap. I've i've never really used kneeboard. I most of the applicants that i gave check rides to use knee boards and they use them very effectively. It's it's just something that Forty years ago. When i was learning to fly it just wasn't a part of the The norm for people using the board so It's just something. I never really adapted to but my i have the eleven inch. Ipad pro I think the super-duper ipad the twelve point nine inch or whatever it is. I think it's just a little bit too too big too bulky I said i kind of wish. There was one between the mini and the eleven inch because maybe about an I don't know a tween ipad with would be would be nice You know. I i do find that. The older people like the bigger ones. The younger people liked the smaller ones. And that probably has something to do with the vision but You know are obviously able to pinch out to make make the the things bigger I would say the with. The ipad mini To me reading text Isn't as as you know. I don't like it near as much As i do in my eleven inch ipad so it is a personal preference and just keep in mind I think most people are not going to buy an ipad and and dedicated strictly to aviation. You're going to use it for other things. You're gonna find all kinds of other uses for it if you don't have an ipad already but It's a great device And as far as the other size. It's you know the the memory. How much memory you have on your ipad is is Is something to look at. And of course the more memory the more expensive so there are economics involved in this

The Anti-Black-Friday Gift Guide for Photographers

"Over the next several days. You're going to hear the bef term many many times even after the actual day has passed. The truth of the matter is that you'll be able to get decent deals on just about anything you set your sights on. So let's focus on quality gear with lots of appeal. I hope you enjoy these gift ideas. So i've been working on this list for a while and this is stuff that i just lifted from catalog pages or other articles or things like this. I have worked with this gear with the exception of just one item. And i want to get that one item but everything else has been thoroughly tested in highly recommended and this is fun stuff. I have things that start at ten dollars here and go all the way up to three hundred and fifty dollars. I'm going to start out with the think. Tank photo lens case duel and both the fifteen and the thirty green yes. The green models are the ones that are on sale. You can get the fifteen for nineteen dollars a dollar savings and the thirty for twenty hours. That's also an eight dollar savings. I like the thirty because it holds some of my olympics lenses such as seventeen millimeter f one two and those quite. But i love these guys i really do. And it's funny. When i was looking at the ratings on them i think they were around three point. Five out of five something like that and i thought wow. That's kinda low for these things. So i i'm not sure what other people like or don't like about them. Here's what i like about these first of all. They're not oversize like some of the lens cases that i have there too big. They add to much dimension to my camera bag or backpack wherever they have the end. These don't do that. They protect the lenses but there are a nice size and they work really well. Now the idea is that you can open these things from the top and they open up like a know like a can or you can have the zipper down the side and open them up. That way i tend to work with them from the top. Only you know they're. They're really nice like that. They're made out of water resistant. Nylon so they keep moisture away they have these little stretchy front pockets. That are really cute and they can hold lens caps or memory cards. They work i. I have four of them and i wish i had more. This is the best price that i've seen on them. Now they have green and black. The black ones you have to pay full price for i like the greens. Because they're easy to find in my camera bag or my backpack. So that's the think tank photo lens dul either the fifteen or the thirty now as you may imagine. I have the links to all of these things. I'm gonna talk about here in the show notes so just come to the show. Stop shopping for all these goodies. You don't have to search for them. Find the deal all that kind of stuff at the digital story dot com okay. Let's go to the second one now. I reviewed this recently. So you may be familiar with it. The kingston data traveler dual for nine ninety. Nine nine dollars in ninety nine cents. I have it right here. In fact i use this thing all the time. I love it. It's a sixty four gigabytes. it's fast. It's a nice fast flash drive. It's very compact in the thing about it. As it has usb c on one end and usb a on the other end so no matter which device you happen to be using you just plug it in and it works and so you this carry one flash drive around you. Don't have to worry about adapters. Have to worry about docks. You don't have to worry about any of that stuff. It's ten dollars. Sixty four gigs of fast memory in just works great and even has these little sliding these little sliding covers so you can only expose the usb and or only expose the usb a and so up. Here where i record I have usb a. And then i take the podcast. And i put it on my macbook pro mine newer laptop. And that's what i use at home to edit it in. That has usb c does put that show right here put it in my pocket taken home. One flash drive for all my ten bucks. This is a great stocking. Stuffer for photographers. And really anyone else. Who does computing. Type things that kingston data traveler dual sixty four gigabyte. The link is in the show notes or this next item number. Three is the one item. I have not tested but i want right. The forty nine dollars item and it is the p. l. one ninety are photography. Led light can

How can I sell printables without paid ads?

"Crest infinite. Dc metro area. I love listening to your podcasts. Being a part of the side hustle school community. my side. Hustle is created principles on and right. Now i'm crean holiday theme or principles so my question is i'm not sure what's the best way to market my se shop the sides. It's he adds which i don't want to pay for them front. I'm already pinterest and posted on instagram. But i'm not sure what else i can be doing. I wanna know what's the best way to market. This shop. And i know that creating a plan before thanksgiving weekend is key nixon events. Thank you so much listening. And for the question. I love the challenge of a tight deadline now listeners. First of all go and check out yvonne shop it has oetzi dot com slash shop slash mom powered life mom powered life where you can just search for that if you ought to use that site okay. So i mentioned a few the pros and cons to this in the introduction. I don't think a lot of people are gonna get rich on principles just because they are so easy to copy one seller starts to do. Well you know other people are gonna notice. They're going to say well. I wonder if i can do something like that. And then they will and so then. The market of suppliers essentially expands also keeps prices low which among other. Things means that you don't have any profit margin to spend on ads if you you're making twenty dollars per printable. Let's say it would be very easy to say. Well let's been you know ten to fifteen dollars on ads. Because i'm coming out ahead no matter what their but it's really difficult to do that. So prices are low supplies high. But that's what can be done like. Is there anything that can be done. And i think so. So again mom powered life on. I was taking a look at this most advanced products. At least the one she has so far are selling for the low price of two dollars. Two dollars i think is going to be really tough. They have to be low prices. But i think you also need to find a way to sell it the five to ten dollar price point which is also low but five or ten dollars is a lot more than two dollars trying to profit in the long-term on two dollars a sale is going to be quite challenging right. You'd have a lot of sales and you're still not doing that. Well because you have to pay at sea listing fees and there's going to be some degree of customer service people emailing questions and such so if nothing else the five to ten dollar price point is better and i also think this is the kind of thing where it is a numbers game to a certain degree like you want to list a lot of items a lot of items with a lot of different keywords. Because you want to be as visible as possible without spending money on ads. I also think this is key and also may be related to how to increase the price point. You really want to encourage multiple purchases and starting to do this a bit with a couple of bundles that she has. But i think you can do this a lot more like you really don't want somebody to check out of their shopping cards with a two dollar purchase. Maybe they can add that to purchase to their carpet. Then they see oh. I spend five dollars more if i spent seven dollars more. If i spent twelve dollars more. I can all these other things as well so for me. One big goal here would be increasing the average checkout price so that nobody is checking out with a two dollar transaction. They're actually spending more and getting more. So those are a few things that can be done as i said. It's probably not a get rich. Quick plan or get rich at all plan but still it's kind of fun to make a downloadable file and put up for sale and then you kind of go away or you look back a couple of days later and you've had a bunch of sales that that is good. That is empowering might give you the vision to do something different in the future so good luck anybody else. Who's doing principles definitely get those holiday listings up

"The with kevin mason. Have you heard about some of the people in the finance industry suggesting that the us adopt a work from home tax here in the future to help get us back on our economic feet. I don't folks from deutsche bank or talking about it and some other investment people saying that basically anybody who ops to work from home should have to pay a five percent tax on their income because they're not contributing to the economy like they were. They're not buying as much gas. They're not buying as much food at restaurants and they're not out in about contributing to the economy. Of course what they don't take into account like with my wife working at home. Our water bill has gone up by ten dollars a month because she's here using our water all day. Our electrical bills have gone up because more computer powers more equipment on. She's cooking her lunch from home now so again. Our costs are going up and of course we're not eating out in restaurants as much but we're spending more at the grocery store. I appreciate investors and bankers wall street trying to fix our economy for us but we think they need to care the little guy a little bit. More five percent work from home tax for some people

"I had a momentous occasion in my life this past week and a half. Which I we didn't get to last week. It's a big deal for me. Not a gender viewpoint. You admit you're wrong. Now that's not gonNA happen. No Shit. No. Since March. I went out to eat for the first time. Last week with a fund. Up. Yeah pigeon really in fact since March and. As we're. Recording. It Was the second week. Third Week of October, it's been like seventy months. Yeah. On Long Pants. Why Oh you've been even short time. I've been wearing shorts since shorts and a tee shirt. I have not worn a shirt with a button since March. And I, bet you you feel liberated and well I still went out and a t shirt right. But I wore jeans jeans and I went out to dinner with my friend who was those light party was having sex for the first time. I'll let you know when that happens so. It was it was weirdly liberating but weird, it was too. So we sat outside, of course, there were people inside but like not GonNa do that. We sat outside there were heat yourself I do hostile speak for. Contain I I'm saying, I, don't want to science. Oh, I sat outside the Great. Okay. So we sat by these giant heaters. So it was nice and toasty. It wasn't. It was maybe sixty five degrees it wasn't terrible. This place, we went to built an outdoor patio to theme restaurant in the area, they built an outdoor patio. They were building it anyway, but they made it bigger than they planned for this for what's going on in the world. So we got a nice table and then so the tables wore spaced out sorta like a checkerboard. So diagonally there was someone like six feet away that make sense. Yes. Like a checkerboard. Yes. So behind you maybe ten feet away. Agnew? Okay so It was weird because the menus were made a paper. Yup Right. They didn't have like the real menus a lot of times they did Qr Code and you'd have to just aim your. These menus were made a paper they were printed nicely, Yep I forgot to get some left something in my car I needed. I was able to just walk from my table to my car in the parking without a mask no mask a mask on. Would you forget? My glasses 'cause I default on the paper was really small side to get my glasses to read to read the paper. Irrelevant but I was able like to go to the restaurant I was like Oh there's my college over to the car. So we ordered the food and I forgot like ordering Soda and appetite I had almost forgotten like the given take like the dance of the ordering I forgot everything because it's been so long. So I ordered my my diet coke no ice and we ordered the meals. He picks up the menus, the paper menus, the waiter. Andy was fantastic by the way and he takes the Menus and crumbles them up and throw them away. But it was like I felt like he was saying you guys are gross I'm throwing you. You stood what we doing. But I didn't experience it. No it's always great. The waiter kept his mask on the whole time we masked up when we weren't eating right and that's great covering our faces, what we chose to do for the most part while we sitting there. However sometimes..

She's I'm sorry I ever brought this idea to the masses. The only thing I'm trying to say it just I know we've gone on about this. Is that. I was invited to this on Halloween weekend which yeah, it's it's. You hate weddings on holiday weekends I hate weddings on holiday weekends. I don't. Want to rehash that. My point was only to say as someone I know hates like an actual big deal like a wedding is a big deal right? That's somebody puts it on a holiday weekend. I. Know It's to say bunny or make it convenient to fly everybody's off work I get it scary. Doesn't like Incan being inconvenient but it's holiday weekend another self absorbed. There For it's not my favorite. It's like you understand I fought lands you're coming to my wedding on Thanksgiving okay. Well, I wouldn't do that. But if you give somebody like a year and a half to plan Memorial Day weekend. You're not going out on, you're not losing your holiday Halloween. Fuck Yo how about but okay. What if this wasn't Halloween Halloween weddings are popular against. Nine. My wife and I did a gender reveal for our third child to ourselves. Right set yoursel-, we had the obstetrician, put an envelope put in the envelope what we're having because we we wanted to find out privately. Right just between the two of us not in front of the obstetrician. What we were having. So, in the privacy of our own home after a nice dinner, we opened the envelope and we celebrated that knowledge together. That's cool and then we called our relatives and said Hey. What's going on right and we were ready like later of course. Yeah. But. Now people you know the first of all. I think it's Ballsy to do one of these, but it's even more ballsy to do it. You'RE GONNA have to, I'm telling you. This is going to become a problem because they're going to argue against it now, they didn't know you so you negative Nancy. So they said, no, we'll. We'll take care of it. What are you want? I said well, they said we can stain over the paint and stain at Brown I said no because it's going to look like white paint would stay not. It's terrible. I just wanted to look like it used to look. They said. All right. Well, yeah we'll do that. We'll hire somebody will pay for it. I have to figure out the budget and we'll get someone to remove the paint, and if it doesn't come off, we'll we'll put some options on the table few whatever you like being very commenting very nice of them. My neighbor says that's fine. So what's today? Thursday? We recorded on Thursday. So on Friday of last week, they start the process of removing the paint on my neighbor's property. They don't have a pool. So behind their house, it's like boom fence. My Pool in the bushes sort of blocked defense, it's not as bad. So they do the fence half third on Friday by neighbor a third on Saturday of my of my neighbor..

"Care song lyric. He starts singing if I hear something that sounds like a song lyric. But I've been that Louis my whole life. Right we used to play game at Z one hundred are station here here in New York. And a friend Kobe who's now on Light FM in New York when any anyone say a line from song like oh. Yeah. I said that guy he was breaking the law, he'd go thanks Judas priest like he would thank the band and call you that ban for saying that line right they wouldn't. We wouldn't sing the song or the next lyric and would just be that and and the game never did come to an end. We try to outdo each other the best. The best example of ending would have been if we confronted the artist if the artists said the name, their own saw allow challenge right or a weird. Song, and then the other had to put it away. We have to put it on by saying all right blanks. So for instance, I think this happened with Janet Jackson. Cubby has claimed to end the game was Janet Jackson was in one day and she goes I brought these they're all for you and then he goes alright Janet Jackson. You're because it's hair right? Yeah. It was her song all for you. I think you're right on that. So anyway. So I. Don't know about fifteen years ago the religious institution. Behind. My building behind my house made their parking lot bigger and the parking lot took away part of the forest in my backyard, my private backyard. So when they were doing that I said listen guys. If you're going to do that I'm GonNa have a parking lot in view of my backyard that that decreases my property value. That's not good. So I went to the municipal court in town and I. Basically. Force fought them on this I force them. To build a fence. A wooden fence, a six foot high fence hind my property all the way up the block to the other properties that were affected because if they got a permit to make their parking nephew Herbert, this is God's country and those parking spaces of his disciples. What do you do? You're trying to you take that away from them okay. So this was a long time ago, but everyone on the block. Thank me. All right. So it's basically a would colored fence right? It's not painted. It's not stained. It's what color. So behind my pool I have I don't know about six feet. I have a fence around the pool ever about six feet behind the fence where you can walk and then as. We're like deer run by through my property they go by the fence and then passed my pool fence is wooden fence. So there's about six feet and in that six feet I, WanNa say one foot is their property and a few feet or my property. So that makes sense. Yes. Okay. So I. For your feet hold on, I get a text message from my neighbor to my a facing my house to the left and he says, did you know anything about the fence? So what are you talking about? He says, well, I'm not home. My wife just texted me that somebody painted the fence white. What Why would anyone paint our side of the fence white that's gotTA. Look Awful. He's Oh I hear it looks terrible. So we both rush home and I get home and not the fence goes. From my house. To, the goes to the left about eight houses but only the first two houses from right to left. With fence ends or starts depending on if you're an optimist or not. Behind my house in his house, it's white and WHO's fence is that It belongs to the religious institution. Okay..

"We'll call. You're of course US currency. Have you ever met bills from other parts of the world? I did actually meet a Canadian dollar once. Yeah, he was in the wallet for a little while. It was a really awkward I thought it was I I was excited. 'cause like been always just around American currency, and I was like Oh. My Gosh, it just felt so exotic to have. To have a Canadian in there But it was not a great thing and I. Do I have to say I do kind of blame myself, but I I wasn't trying to. We're both ten dollars. But I was just trying to think I got a little too deep into global economics with them and I was trying to explain that. Even though he's ten dollars, he's not worth as much as me. Which even saying that out loud just does Jerky I think it would be hard to here. Yeah, it's not nice and I tried to buy it back by saying you know, but things could change imports exports. You know and maybe one day you'll be worth more than me. But at that point. He was totally shut down. Can I ask? Did he have the smell? And I really WanNa talk about that. She here resident actress speaking hi is Dina N-. Deans talking right now? Okay cool by. Dean there you. Do you have a few minutes? Right? Now are sure do. So I see you wrote an article for the Canadian Press in twenty thirteen. The headline is due Canada's new plastic. Bills Smell like maple syrup. Can. You just tell me basically what was going on there? Well Canada introduced a new series of plastic bills in two thousand eleven, and the first bill to come on the scene was a hunt. The hundred dollar bill which was released in twenty eleven, and I noticed as a reporter I noticed on social media, a lot of chatter about These bills had peculiar smell. Some people had this idea that that they had somehow been impregnated with Smell of Maple Syrup. So I just found that kind of odd. I I did get hold of one and I fought for everything I did I could not get it to smell like maple, syrup or anything else for that matter. But This belief was so strong on social media that I I wondered whether the were of the currency which is in candidates, the Bank of Canada that's responsible whether they had gotten any kind of correspondence from ordinary Canadians, but it and it turned out. I used our access to information. Act to get that correspondent. It turns out. There was a lot a lot of correspondent saying. You know I'm having. A dispute with my wife. She doesn't think they smell like Maple Syrup and I do. Can you resolve it for us or? Where do I scratch it to get the smell? But I should say the Bank of Canada absolutely denies that there was anything put in that bill, no impregnation of any smell of any kind. So you've filed an access information. We in the United States. We have the freedom of information. Act, I guess it's the same thing In the process of doing that, are you? Are you like writing a letter that says I WANNA. Know everything all correspondence relating to the possible smell of Maple Syrup on our currency. Is Pretty much exactly that. It was a guess on my part, but sure enough. The bank had tons of correspondence that they refused to release to me initially by the way I had to fight to get them do it. They're really they're trying to keep the LID on the maple. Syrup conspiracy. Yeah, so so okay, so the Bank of Canada firmly denies it. You've never experienced it yourself, but you. You've read correspondence from hundreds of people who insist that was the case. your your best guess of an explanation for what's happening. Power of suggestion you know somebody. Somebody posts something on. Social Media. And you know these things just move at the speed of light, and and it just catches on. You know it's a kind of a strange phenomenon. Yeah! I. Mean we read so much about conspiracy theories? that. The the idea that the Canadian currency is centered like Maple Syrup is I think the most harmless kind of kindest? Conspiracy I've ever heard. I think you're right. I did so benign. Conspiracy theory that's. You know not hurting anybody right it's it's It's not disparaging anybody. It's just it's just kind of fun. That's that's it. You know just kind of fun..
