"Was boy. I mean, we'll get to the other side of the ball here and I guess that's what the rams defense to the Bengals offense here. And we saw one sustained drive for the Bengals. We also saw two big plays. There was the long one to Jamar chase. That was just a gorgeous throw and catch downfield one handed catch, and we saw the big tee Higgins play obviously to open the second half. Other than that, there was the one drive, and there was nothing else. And by, let's say, conservatively, late in the second quarter, Raheem Morris had a beat on what they were doing to Aaron Donald. He was going to take advantage of that. He was going to basically he started using Donald basically slanting away from the right side of the offensive line and then looping von Miller back in. And it was just sort of too easy for the rams pass rush at that point. Yeah, I mean, what the Bengals did in the draft ended up being the right thing, right? Even though they did. And they were right about what they did. They were right about Jamar chase. I think we were not wrong about penne sewell. It's just you made a better call, I think. And you made it better value judgment than I think we all thought you did. That said, this was still not enough to be done on the offensive line. You know, and I think that there was a little bit of revisionist history painted with the Bengals throughout the week where it's like, you know, small town team built the right way. And I agreed with that to some degree. But we're seriously ignoring how much punishment Joe burrow took over the course of this season, coming off an ACL, and then no quarterback and NFL history has been sacked more times in the NFL postseason than Joe burrow. And it was just nuts. I think what it broke the NFL record and the Titans for a playoff game. And then tied the Super Bowl record. With 7 against the ramps. You can't operate like that. And there's just two such glaring holes on that offensive line that teams are just going to attack and attack and attack until you fix it. And there's no way to solve that problem. They tried to solve it. This past off season. The one thing I'll say in the Bengals defense. I agree with you in a 100% that there is a bit of well, when you go to the Super Bowl, people look for nice things to say about your roster building. They spent a top 50 pick on Jackson Carmen and they signed Riley and look, that doesn't mean, okay. I'll do the see how the sound comes out, do the wipe your hands, type of thing like we're all set, top 50 pick, one year deal for a 33 year old journeyman and we're all set, but they did try to address it. In some way, just it wasn't enough, and now they'll go back and they'll try to address it again..

"He's relatively new. It seems like he's been here for half a year. We got guys that have come in and and just bought into the culture. We got tray and a bunch of guys. Riley Riley is like my best friend and I love that guy. Um, it's just a culture thing, and it's something again. It's It's kind of like little league. You know, you're in here. You're with your boys are having a good time. You hit the practice field. You're grinding. You come back in your boys again. So, um, it really is a different culture going on here. Dave Talking with C J. You, Sam and Dave. I think he kind of gets lost in the shuffle. We certainly have spent a lot of time talking about Joe Burrow and his comeback and Trey Hopkins in his comeback. I think maybe some people forget just what CJ has gone through to get back to this point Tours Achilles. You know, I mean, that's a tough injury, tough injury to come back from rehab from and he played well blocked well. They used them as a full back on occasion as a lead blocker in that regard. In the course of fourth and Scotch 32 Yard reception was a massive play in the football game. But you're right, Joe Burrow from the A. C L M c, l and even a Little PCL. The terrible triad little damage their reconstruction that need to play like he played. Trey Hopkins struggled a little bit, Uh, the Minnesota Vikings did a good job of isolating him one on one and protections on Pierce. Pierce beat him a couple of times for sacks very rare for Trey Hopkins to give up two sacks. This scheme of the Vikings was very, very sharp, very smart, obviously. And, uh and then CJ Asama Joe Mixon coming back from injury to play like he played so Nick Cosgrave and all the guys in charge of the rehab of all these players take about because a lot of your rehab patients came back and performed exceptionally well right away, and we've got about a minute. And while the Bengals may not feature the tight end as much as other teams do, and they've got Joe Burrow and mix it in the trio of wide receivers. There is still a place for and ineffectiveness to be used with with CJ. Use Almond Andrew sample that that can be a weapon. Still. Well, what happened? Uh, got the Vikings defense off kilter a little bit. Bengals came out Joe Burrow under center running the football with two tight ends. And and the Minnesota Vikings were expecting three wives They were not expecting. You know, 12 personnel one running back to tight ends. That's room for a little bit of loop, particularly with Joe Bar Owners Center. And in the kind of, uh that was a wise move the way they wanted to run the ball with the frequency. They want to do it, then play action off the boots and things like that nature at all kind of mesh together very well. And it took the Minnesota Vikings a little while to adjust the little wrinkles and nuances that the Bengals had course The Vikings had theirs as well. And we'll talk about some of those still ahead. "I did not see that happening, and they were able to do so, uh, talking to James Rippin this morning. James with Sports illustrated and all. Bengals dot com. Ah, uh And you know the thing with the defense. Tell me, they really grant it's week. One. Um, they looked into it Looks like an entirely different squad because they were cousins all day. I think they had met. You said the penalties against the O Line alone. Kirk Cousins got sacked with three times and guys like, um, um Adobe, uh, easier and Mike Hilton look great. I mean, they just there were ball in the entire first half. They were. You know, we've seen it from him from all of camp. And it just translated right through the game, and he was right there step for step with a lot of plays Justin Jefferson, and that's the crazy part about this is what we've talked about. I'm sure you're asking me about chase at some point, but she struggles in camp. Well, Part of that is because he has made his life really, really hard and he's made it hard on him, and he's played really Well at a high level. I think he was MVP's so to speak of training camp and have one of those because of the way he played in a translated to the game we saw season against Washington and then it's certainly translated yesterday, so that doesn't bode well because Now you're talking about a secondary that if it was, you can be a legit number one corner and you have Jesse Bates in the bachelor area in the second area as well, along with the bell. And if this defensive lines getting somewhat of a push You have a pretty good group. You have a unit that you can work with. That can do some damage and that can change the game. Some so I think all you have to look at right is DJ reader. I mean, how bad a day to DJ reader have who normally doesn't have bad days. DJ reader. You just like he wanted to crawl into Iraq. You didn't think DJ reader played well? Oh, no, no No. Three, the three holding calls. What I'm saying is what he forced. All Okay? Actually. Yeah. You threw me off the holes in the two sacks. I mean, it's whether yeah, it means you know you're playing against this guy, and you're just having a bad day. Well, that's the crazy part. Two is It's not just reader, but you're right, like leader had a couple of them. Larry Ogunjobi got things started early, and he was getting a ton of push and then B. J Hill. Man. They get him in a deal for Billy Price and on paper. Great, like yeah, On paper, it felt like they won this deal. Look at what he has done. Well, he's got two sacks already Incredible 17 facts that they team last year, and they got to from their defensive tackle. That wasn't on the team two weeks ago, So those are the three That, you know, Reader, Okonjo, Vinnie and Hill. That is like man, that trio that's going to make it tough on opposing offense. That wasn't steel. Yeah, we're gonna have Mendelssohn's be happy, Billy Price we got. I don't know. A couple kicking tees a Gatorade bottle in like a Cockney crate. Great. Done. Yeah, I think the Giants are I don't know about kicking themselves because they, you know they were deep at defensive line, but the probably kicking themselves, um All right. So let's mom switch it up here to the defense. Absolutely spectacular. Jamaar Chase, of course, had his problems with drops in the preseason. That was, you know, he had a couple of couple targets didn't go his way. But You're finished with 100 yards and a touchdown. Pretty damn good. Very good. It's exactly why they drafted him. You know, to make those plays to be that game changer to lead the team in receiving on any given week and especially in the second half when he Higgins They be almost some cramp issues and not able to be out there playing and play out where you still want the offense to function at a high level, and exactly what it did was your mom. He's uh He looked apart. I mean, he's going up against Patrick Peterson. And you know a lot of the game, and when he wasn't getting targeted, he was blocking in the run game, And then he beats shock breathing for that 50 yarder, and I think it was just Catching one ball and it was that little outrun. He got that out route. Um, and he had two catches by the way in the Bengals first scoring drive That pretty hard past that to tee Higgins. Help get things going. And then right back at it a few minutes later with that 50 yarder, and I don't know what did you see that LSE tweet, But no, I think that they think up the touchdown pass from birth to chase from yesterday. To the one in the national championship game in 2020 against Clemson, and they look almost identical. It's It's a really cool. Um, Yeah, Okay, then. Now you know, we can't give it a positive because we're talking about the banks. The concern is how much concern is areas burrows here. What, five times? Um I think it's seven times that's got to be somewhat concerned. Now granted, you know you've got some new pieces in there. I watch the watch The Steelers dismantle my bills. Bills look terrible more on that in just a second. Um, but they've got an entirely new lines save one player and they look great. So you can't just say yeah. You know, we got to get a gotta get some chemistry here together. You've been playing the entire preseason What gives on the line? Well, I think it was partially the offensive line, but I don't think it was on the offensive line Would Trey Hopkins Got beat pretty bad twice, where where Borough got crushed, And so those are obvious ones, But it doesn't take an offensive line expert or an analyst to point those out to anybody that being said, I think there were times Remember was not miscommunication but mysteries and that could be on burrow where you don't know where the blitz is necessarily coming from because of how large disguise that where the pressure is coming from because of Mike Dimmers defense and it is confusing and I'm sure there were some times where we took a hit. I'm not saying three of the facts on borough or anything, You know his fault, but there might be a time or two, where he's under pressure quicker than he realizes. Because of the check. He made it at the line of scrimmage, so we'll see. But no, I agree with you. Five sacks is unacceptable. It can't happen. We can't see Borough limping off the field. He injured his ankle there and I know he stayed in the game. But I I think there's I don't think it's a coincidence that he stopped throwing the ball as much after that. And if you go back and you look, he was not pushing the ball down the field much and really, the 1 30 years, Mama. That that clinched. It was kind of it as far as downfield throws go, so we'll monitor and angle this week, but they Yeah, they got to keep them upright and find a way to do it. For the most part, I think they did a good job. But, yeah, it's tough against that Vikings from James Rippin on this morning on 700 wlw. He's with sports illustrated Bengals.

"Regressed Ever since the 40 Niners took a two touchdown lead. This game getting close. We talked to Jason Hart, who is on the scene. Minnesota up against the Bangles. Exactly. Bengal just extended their lead to 24 to 14, a 53 yard field goal from the rookie head of Florida, Evan McPherson. But this game a lot tighter than that may have been to the Bengals were up 21 to 7 had 1/4 and one at their own 30 yard line. Zach Taylor decided to go for it, and Jill makes him a stop. He gave Minnesota the short field. They actually end up getting 1/4 down and 4 24 yard touchdown from Adam feeling that's right in the game up considerably at 21 14. So if the Vikings come back to win this game that's going to be certainly a 20 that will be questioned from Zach Taylor, at least a decision. On that. Jonathan Taylor coming off a great rookie season, where nearly 1200 yards, so we'll see how he does this year. "Absolutely could, so I think If you were looking at a guy, I don't I wouldn't characterize Singletary. I did see him by the way among the Brazilian fantasy Previous I've been reading. Someone did point out, um, with the bill. Specifically, Singletary would be a guy to To pick up because they thought he would have a big year. I'm not going to go with that because I just I'm I'm not expecting a lot more runs. I don't think he's going to get the lion's share of the carries. They're going to work in mosque. They might try and work in Britain as well. I'm not sure how big Singletary's numbers will be, Um, I don't think you'll end up having like a 50 catch season or anything, either, so I would shy away from Singletary. But Davis as soon as next year could be the number two guy behind digs on the depth chart. Yeah, So that's a good choice. A lot of answers here. Tee Higgins from Harley with a healthy burrow and chase not being able to catch a cold. I think he can take off Flap writes in Michael Carter. And I guess Herbert has kind of broken up, but I'm still higher on him than most. Then there's the flip side of that somebody you know Herbert. Justin Jefferson had a huge rookie year. And you might think mm I know what they're going to stay there. You know, I wonder I'm thinking about the Jets. Honestly, I know Carter. I do like Carter, but I was thinking about any of any of the Jets wide receivers as a breakout guy, because you more right? That's the kid they were raving about. His name keeps coming up for this stuff. Or who's the kid? Uh, was it memes? The kid from Baylor? They drafted Denzel Mims. I was trying to think of the Jets only because you'd be thinking, okay? Wilson is gonna be good. They've got a coach. You can help develop this guy. Let me get in on a Jets guy now because they're going to be good good value at some point. So yeah, I did think about. I know that. Like I said, someone texted or tweeted about Carter, which I think is a solid bet. I would think they're going to try and and run the ball as much as they can to help out their young quarterback, But I would latch onto probably one of those Jets receivers in hopes that Wilson turns out to be a good player. Um, I think they've done a nice job really, So far of how they've built stuff up around him. You know, at least the left side of the offensive line should be solid at the very least. And they do have weapons at running back and wide receiver China. I know they got rid of Herndon. So I gotta double check and see what they got it tight end. I would. I would do a Jets receiver because I think they're they're doing a really good job of putting something together. Following the bill's model around Zach Wilson, including better coaching You know, funny thing here the flip side of this on holding onto players because you think it's coming has is holding on to a player too long and somebody wrote in. I did this with Josh Gordon. For Like, four years. You just keep holding thinking. It's going to happen. It's going. He's going to come back. He's going to He's going to come back. "Now, without Oklahoma and Texas, they're not likely to make that much in their next TV contracts, so that's made it a little bit less attractive. But when you're outside of the power five, you will go anywhere where you can make the kind of money from TV that those other schools make. Dan Hoard is the voice the Cincinnati Bear Cats. He's also the voice of the Cincinnati Bengals. And so a lot of questions Surrounded Joe Burrows rehab, and it's just kind of remarkable that he could already be playing in games and practices considering when he injured himself last season. How quickly has Joe Burrow kind of re assimilated considering the severity of the injury last year? The first week of training camp. He didn't look very good, and I had to kind of recalibrate my expectations for Joe Burrow going into training camp. I think just because he's Joe Burrow. I assumed everything was going to be fine. He'll be great from week one of the season. And in week one of training camp, he struggled and I thought to myself well, maybe it is going to take three games. Five games, six games. Whatever. Then after that, it was like somebody flipped the switch. And he was Joe Burrow again. So now it is my expectation that in week one against the Vikings Paul Brown Stadium, you will look exactly the way he looked. Before Jonathan Allen hit him in the left knee on November. 22nd last year, which is extraordinary drops have unfortunately tagged Jamaar chased this preseason. How much of a concern should they be? It's a concern, but I'm not worried about it. I had the opportunity along with other media members to talk to two Bengals wide receivers yesterday, Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd and I asked both of them. Was there ever a time in your life? Whether it was high school college, the NFL whatever where you went through several days where you just could not catch the ball, and their answers were so immediate and so detailed. That it told me that this happens to everybody. At some point, Tyler Boyd described literally looking at his hands saying, Why don't you work anymore? And T? Hagan said. During his sophomore year at Clemson. He went through a stretch where he was so bad that he had to sit himself down away from everybody else is like, give himself a stern talking to about how he's going to fix it, so Tamar Chase has caught more footballs off a jugs machine after practice than any wide receiver I have ever seen yesterday at practice when they were doing a drill or doing a period where the wide receivers were actually getting a little bit of a break. The quarterbacks drop to the side, throwing normally throwing two assistant coaches and equipment guys and stuff like that Chase ran over to that drill just to catch more balls. He caught everything thrown his way at practice yesterday, so I think he's going to be fine. But hey, until he catches it consistently in games. Naturally, there's a little bit of a concern. Finally, in your years calling Bengals games has there been a player that has struck you as the Joe Burrow type where he walks in and kind of right away. You just go. Wow. He's He's different. That's a different maturity. That's a different leadership, because as you said, you just expect him to be Joe Burrow. Has there been anybody else that struck you that way? Not during the years that I've been doing the games, but it Bangles history. There is a guy like that It was Boomer Asyut Boomer is regarded as the greatest leader in franchise history is obviously the last quarterback take the Bangles to a Super Bowl. So I think, Burrow and Boomer. Both have that it factor that's hard to describe. But you know it when you see it, and, uh everybody sees it in Joe Burrow. His leadership traits are amazing. And he's made the bear cats so good, and he's going to constantly be chased by power five programs. But as Dan just kind of alluded to Get paid well. You can win and win big there. And there's been a lot of coaches that have won big there historically. And when you come into a season and your preseason top 10 team You've got national respect now built in fickle could be there for a while, and that would be a huge win for the bear catch a huge win for college football, knowing that a group of five school could hold on to an elite coach like that, because there's inherent advantages to it. In terms of all of the group of five schools. You could make the argument that Cincinnati is the most attractive for a power conference. I think there's three that stand out. These are receivers that have either got the potential to be top fifteen two top twelve types or they've demonstrated in the past that they've been top twelve types and should have volume To make them at least top. Twenty receivers this year That's certainly the case for johnson. I think feeling we can say that four if chases the number one receiver. I think we can say for him I you have to go right. His efficiencies going to have to spike in order for that to happen golladay could get good volume and ju- still gets good volume. These are receivers. Figure right now in fantasy like you have, How do you feel like sort of what's your gut Tell you on him or on Cincinnati? Um, I might think if they are going to blast off, it's going to be because Joe Burrow is throwing the ball like crazy to his former L S u teammate tomorrow. Chase and Tee Higgins. Um and that Joe mixing probably his stock, I would guess would be down. Because of that, but but I don't know. I mean, he's been a pretty hot commodity at the running back position and fantasy for a couple of years now, But I feel like I might want to buy low on him this year. And he has had some success catching the ball in his career like that's not a not not huge, but it's a little bit of his game more so than like a Derrick Henry or somebody, but at the same time they replaced him last year with Bernard when They were passing downs, right? I don't know. It's gone right. Bernard is gone. That's right. They let him go to and he's on Tampa. Now I feel like there's a good argument And it it is, yes, Burrow, But the offense overall could be really good. I just have a Bengals problem. I remember this, but I wanted to make sure so last year. He had a big game. I think in week four against Jacksonville had a big game and the season started. You know, pretty much okay. Baltimore kicked off after a touchdown 27 Nothing midway through the fourth quarter, like your backups are in Mixing touched the ball on the next 13 plays. And the next week he hurt his foot. They played it slow and after a couple weeks or a few weeks, or like you know what I are Just what kind of how incompetent is that? Why would he even touch the ball at all? At that? 0.13 plays in a row, I think 11 Russia's two catches. Then they kicked a field goal, which maybe their coach thought was important to do like to not get shut out. One of these guys, maybe. You know but hopefully hopefully we're not having to feed these guys one hundred targets each like hopefully we joe mixon a little bit and hopefully he stays healthy for the whole year. Hopefully we're not having a sling. The ball sixty times a game. You know who knows. Maybe zac taylor will do this thing where he's like. Oh we have tight. Tight ends are a position we can throw it to them once or twice a game. Who knows. we don't do that at really ever you know. There's there's not a place for. But our i think our our receiver core is so nasty. It's like i'm. I'm so excited not as Everybody's been talking about the wide receiver position. just went on. Joe burrow draft jomar chase out of lsu consensus number one wide receiver in this year's cost boroughs former teammate at lsu. When you drop them into an offense with tyler. Boyd and tee higgins okay if you're the ravens and you're seeing that happening and you already know what the browns of done the last two or three years building around baker mayfield in the fact that they have a superbowl caliber roster in place if you don't trade for julio jones what are you doing so you know. Think about the ravens as a landing spot for julio jones. don't rule out new england because jones just feels like the type of player and the type of receiver the bill belichick really covets. And then you have the jets. Don't sleep on the jets. That's a team that can make the playoffs. This year is a wildcard. I i think the jets with zack wilson. All three of these guys are the chance to special now. You gotta work in deebo samuel being healthy because he missed so much time and george kittle. Miss that stretch of game. I would think that's gonna be on your mind. And yet you have toe push it aside to play football. What's it like dealing with everything else beyond just playing the game right now? Yeah. You know, you got to get tested everything the day at a certain time. And, you know, get our math everywhere. So I mean, It's been really, you know, really weird, But everyone's going to just too and you know, just following protocol just so we could go out there and play the game that we both. Yeah, it's an interesting year instead of going on the road and facing these hostile crowds. Your face in a hostile enemy and covert 19, you know, and it's like you never know when it's going to crop up like it did in Tennessee, in Miami and other places, And I guess this This is the year where you have to go from a mental standpoint, be mentally strong and be ready to pivot on a just, I mean the team that pivots and adjust the best, you know, be at the Patriots with what they're going through the Titans and other teams. And teams that really don't get affected by covert. But after almost, you know, work to make sure you don't every single day of the season, the team that handles that type of business best this year. The teams are going to be okay. Right. Just like you know, you just gotta be careful with the alpha people, not people, not always. In the building every single day, you know, just really quarantine yourself for what? You know a few more weeks. The season go through and you know everybody be alright, so To your body's taken hits now for five weeks. How Just how In general, do you feel physically at this stage of the season? I feel really good, You know, just getting treatment. And, you know, getting massages every week, you know, just got to take care of your body. You know, you don't take care of your body. You won't be able to play under sentence on Sunday. So You were exposed to. Ah, tremendous leaders, coaches players at Clemson. I think you thought that Joe borrow fit that category. A za an outstanding leader as he lived up to everything that you thought. My understanding is after the game, he instead to the to the defense. You continue to play like that. We won't lose another game this year. I mean, that's that's what you're looking for. From your guy at quarterback in it.
