Other kids trying to play high school ball. Well, he's already a pro. And there is a big controversy at his high school about whether he could play football and basketball because he was a professional athlete way. So, uh, is some interesting things. But anyway, Rick Woodfield, everyone should go there. It's just a beautiful place. And it's amazing because the other five ballparks Willy played in the Polo Grounds, Seal Stadium, Candlestick Park and Shea Stadium. All gone. But his Negro League Stadium is still there. Narrows is the same stadium that white team played when they, uh Like to play it at home advice versa. Yeah, Actually, this the field was owned by the Birmingham barons. I mean, he and Mickey Mantle were coming up together, both from the Deep South. Um, you know, both sides out of high school and both ending up playing center field in New York and They're paralleled their careers were parallel with with what they did as five tool, you know, exceptional athletes who, uh, who were that? Uh, you know, featured player with the Giants and the Yankees at the time. So, uh, it's some amazing history. Obviously, Mickey Mantle didn't have to go through what Willie Mays did because Mickey was white. And is troubled his life might have been. It was nowhere near what Willie faced, Uh, growing up, you know, right outside Birmingham At the time, which Dr Martin Luther King said in the early sixties was the most segregated city in America. And, uh, I mean, it's it's heartbreaking and You know, Willie had relationships with all these wonderful ball players, You know, obviously Hank Aaron, um was was three years younger. And, uh, sort of a little brother, The Willie You know a lot of ways. A lot of people thought there was a a tough relationship. There are big competition. But in the book both explain What That relationship really was. And Joe Morgan was another. You know, Willie was almost like a father of the job. Morgan, who? Who's dad took him to seal Stadium from Oakland. Uh, 58. 59 to see the great maze play. And then a few years later, uh, Joe's plane, uh, with Houston and Willie and Cepeda and Marshall, Call him aside and say, Hey, that's that Morgan kids from the bay and and during batting practice and Willie says Hey, at the end of the season, you know, come by my house. And and Joe Morgan says. Yeah, Okay, right, you know, thinking, Oh, yeah, that's never going to happen. And then the season ends and Willie calls Jones the man. Come on by and mortgage. Yes, You're serious, said Yeah. Morgan spent the whole day at Willie's house and left with golf clubs and shirts. You know, because all these sporting goods companies love to give Willie stuff and Willie Love to give it away. But I mean, even you know, Tom Seaver is teammate in New York, Um Bob Gibson, whom he faced many times, and by the way, how many times did Bob Gibson It's Willie Mays with a pitch zero.

"I could talk about the dignity in the class of hank. Aaron the man the you've been being for an hour easily but i'm a numbers guy and so let me tell you what i did. After hank aaron died i navigated over to his page on baseball reference. And i don't know. I just be held the majesty of this man's career and it literally gave me goosebumps. The more i looked the more. I realized he was beyond great. He was at some other level. He wound up with nearly thirty eight hundred hits. And that's a lot of freaking hits. It's a thousand more history chipper jones. It's two thousand more hits than mark. Maguire it's more hits than johnny bench and hank greenberg got combined and they're both in the hall of fame so i think about all those hints and i think about those seven hundred fifty five homeless because that's two hundred more homes than mickey mantle. Two hundred it's more homers than edgar martinez and duke snider hit combined. And they're both in the hall. But the more i dug i found other cool stuff to hank. Aaron had double digit home run seasons at age twenty and age. Forty here the only three players who did that. Willie mays ted williams hank aaron. That's a pretty good. Start on a mount rushmore. Would you say and all those home runs. He hit for all those years. This never struck out one hundred times. Then there's total basis crushes. Everyone who ever played in total bases six thousand eight hundred and fifty. Six total bases isn't just a record. It's seven hundred. Twenty two more than stan. Musial was the next closest player in history. If stan musial had hit another one hundred and eighty home runs. He still wouldn't catch i karen and total basis. That's a lot of total basis. That's incredible hitter hank. Aaron was for two decades. So is it possible to be one of the greatest players who ever lived and still the underrated. After looking over hank aaron's numbers. I think it is my name. Is david o'brien cover the braves for the athletic. And there's only two guys that i've ever felt this aura around them and that was mohammed ali and hank. Aaron and hank aaron. How's interviewed him. The first time at spring training. I remember approaching him and it was just You know i've done this for thirty years. And it was feeling. I've had unlike any other athlete that i've ever approached but then he immediately just he smiled and was so warm that that fear or intimidation just as melted away. And you could not believe that you were talking to this. Superstar is genuine icon living in atlanta for twenty years You can't overstate the importance of hank. Air to this city and this region the south. I grew up in the south and hank aaron being a black man being the greatest one of one of the two or three greatest players of all time and to do what he did in the south and then living in atlanta and seeing hank aaron you know mementos anchor and tributes and see his name on buildings and streets and that kind of thing. I would argue that. There is no athlete. That is more important to a city than hanker and wants to atlanta. He was such a huge part of how the culture of the south has changed. I mean this is a city where you feel fide of being so much black acceptance here. Thanks a huge huge part of that. He helped pave the way for all these other black athletes and entertainers wanna come here to be here. Brian jordan know it was an all star with atlanta. Bryant said that The reason that he chose atlanta was hank. Aaron and was a boy idle here. He said a black kid growing up playing baseball hank. Aaron was the guy but it was an opportunity for me to meet my hair. The hope the opportunity is given so many kids today. Amazing dominique wilkins. Said hank was a big reason. That he came here was one of the first people. It's probably one of the most instrumental guys into getting me here in atlanta. But one for god like hank. I wouldn't been here. Was hanker went to ted turner and said hey you need to get this kid by any means necessary. He said people should give the roses while they're alive and that he's glad to see him getting them now but he said hank should have been put on a pedestal decades ago and he was right What are the things that i remember him saying is that you gotta set example for people to come at you. So the mass pike was found right at the end of the Ted Williams cell. Really scary spot to have a broken down truck there, But you're aware of it, because I just told you about it. So give me your quick thoughts on the With the players and union they're doing. I thought the players would be all for expanded playoffs. It would seem more money more chance to make the playoffs. But they said no. So the D. H is going to stay in the American League. There will be no expanded playoffs. This year. What do your thoughts on this and then why don't we have both those things? Well, the union has said from the beginning we are not connecting These two dynamics. We're not accepting the Universal D. H in return for expanded playoffs and clearly there must not be enough money in the going to the players in the expanded playoffs. I find all of this troubling because it's just another negotiation. It could not be agreed upon with less than three weeks to go before the supposed start of spring training, so I don't see this as a good thing Personally, I was all for the expanded playoffs last year, but I'm in the great minority on this. If we're gonna play 162 games, the integrity of that season, I don't think should be compromised by adding Six more playoff teams. That's just the way that I see it on. It was harder to get that kind of support. So while the city of Dayton wholeheartedly loves having the hall of fame here we also Need people who can sponsor because we receive no federal state or local funding at all whatsoever. So we have to depend on aerospace aviation companies industry to support US and in Trimbe it was a big help us getting brand recognition. It's never been moneymaker. It's part of our mission to memorialize. So we need people to support our education and support are learning center through sponsorship. It are the ones who are going to adapt and react to the situation with kids with this next generation they're not so much looking up lake weeded or the generation before me did Neil Armstrong stood in one place and what's fair to the sky and we all know the Wright brothers played with a little plastic helicopter type thing that inspired them. So we need to appeal to kids in. What interest them? So that might be if they're interested in the environment, they WANNA make less noise from aircraft. They want less jet fumes from cargo plane. That kind of thing we have to say, why not you? Why don't you figure that out? It makes me think of enshrining clap Myra who wanted a safer jet plane. So he thought about it and thought about it and he Allen Clapp mark came up with this idea of putting a parachute on the top of. A plane and everyone's like that's not gonNA work except the vision jet is pretty remarkable. So what we need to do is have kids interact or read about or they have to know who Bill Mayer is, and it isn't just Alan Shepherd. It isn't just the astronauts it isn't just the inventors it's all the Chinese and they can inspire kids more than just an aviation. It could be designed it to be dreamers that could be artists, but if we all have. Heroes. That's what gets kids going and if we give them a problem like make less noisy aircraft or might be a kid who's a Gamer and they sit on the computer all day, they're actually going to be fantastic drone pilots. We just have to recognize what they're doing and adapt to it.

Apocalypse isn't the only reason for banking seeds climate change habitat loss and the growing threat of plant pathogens are already threatening bio-diversity.
