Why are there so many good TV shows to watch right now?
"Why are there too many TV shows to choose from right now? For years, network TV had its classic season ending cliffhangers, streamers and premium cables are rolling out their big guns with shows like Succession. Everything I've done in my life, I've done for my children. And Ted Lasso. Rachel. Oh. Rock can't just say great job. Network TV is going for the ratings. Joyce ng, senior editor of the Hollywood award centric website gold Derby, says streamers and premium cable are looking at the May 31st deadline for Emmy consideration. Obviously, there's TV year round, a lot of great TV year round. But it's very back loaded in the last three months of the eligibility period, like the spring. Some shows like Squid Game premiered in the fall and had to wait about a year to win an Emmy for best series. I'm Ed Donahue

Bidens hosts 'Ted Lasso' cast to promote mental health
"The Ted Lasso cast as visited The White House for a talk with President Biden about mental health. Coach lasso? The podium is yours. I appreciate it. There you go. Thank you. Jason Sudeikis was in the briefing room next to castmates, including Brett Goldstein, who plays Roy Kent. They're promoting mental health as a part of overall health and the importance of seeking help despite the stigma. Doesn't need to be that way. And simply offering support to those around you. It's a big theme of the show is like to check in. Sudeikis did have some fun. Yes, sir, you're familiar face. Hi. Taking one question from a packed room. Fake journalists. Castmate James Lance was standing among the real ones. Sudeikis answered one more question on his way out. Would he do his Saturday Night Live, Joe Biden impression? They got the real one here now. Ted Lasso Premiere-Lasso intro and wrap
"Jason Sudeikis talks about the future of his character, Ted Lasso at the season premiere in Los Angeles of his comedy series. The premise for Ted Lasso came from a commercial for NBC's soccer coverage, featuring a former American football coach. In London. I mean, that's nuts. Sudeikis says he didn't know where this was headed. You never know what you're going to get to do three seasons. If anything, it was probably maybe presumptuous if not downright arrogant of us to think that if we got to do three. Ted Lasso has been a hit and star Cola bikini says the reason is in part timing. It premiered during the pandemic. It was a really, really tough time. And it was kind of like, you know, a warm blanket, you know, when you're heating out. Jason Sudeikis is not sure there'll be a season four of Ted Lasso, will he miss it? No, it's in me. It's always, it's always been a part of me to weather well before we did the commercial or the shows. Ted Lasso season three premieres next week. I'm Ed Donahue

And then you have to see? The banter is chaptered, everyone. You can just skip it all. In fact, it's probably just called banter in this one. Now I'm gonna start calling it banter. But you know what I'm gonna make it, I'm gonna make it like Ted laso banter, BA and TR. Yeah. Yeah, that's what's gonna be now. That's footage that something should be called that BANT. We should trademark it. I'm pretty sure Ted Lasso maybe has. Wait, is that what it's called? Banter? Yes, isn't it? Is it? I don't think that's what it's called. Yes, BA, NTR, it's a dating. I guess it is. All right, well, there you go. Then it shouldn't be us. I was like, I don't think that's how that works. So I was like, that's a good name for things. Yes, it is. It's so good that a bunch of professional writers named a thing that it's on Jersey. Anyway, everything. We have to record everyone we see you asking us for a season two, Ted Lasso. I'm still sitting in my feelings about season two. I have a lot of them. And we're gonna do well, it's coming. It'll happen. And Jen, I noticed did not share anywhere what I gave her for a birthday. Which true I had a very a very Roy kenty thing. I'll put it on. I'll put it on. I'll put it on the social media. I've been as we've previously discussed. Kind of a mess. Yeah, it's fine. But it was Jen's birthday. Happy birthday friend. Thank you. Okay, we are here though to talk about a book we like. Hanukkah carries on by usma, jalala deen. No, this is a book you picked. I picked it because it is, I mean, because I'm just gonna say it. 2021 has been real fucking.

"So how does that work with a high flying executive. And i know you deal with these folks. Day of spent their days in there. Waking hours crafting every little nuance of their narrative and they wanna be perfect and they want to be perceived as perfect and none of us. Are we all come from the shared experience of failure and at failure and that embarrassment is a constant reminder of where we come from. How do you get somebody who's so image conscious you know. They feel like they have to look like they walk on water to the head. Count that they manage How do you get that person to drop their drawers. Metaphorically it's asking questions it's perpetual curiosity. Yesterday i was watching. Ted laso which is a light hearted comedy. So if you're looking for a little pallet cleanser jeff definitely check outside last great show but he mentioned something to one of the antagonists of the show he said. And i'm paraphrasing and i'm probably gonna butcher it. Essentially most people go through life making judgments. I learned to be curious. Because when you're curious you learn things about other people that throw those judgments out the window. And i'm paraphrasing big nine. It's not nearly what he said but it was that idea that the more you ask questions. The more you learn is so hard for me sometimes to not make judgments based off of what people tell me. When i'm in a conversation with them especially like leader executives. I can see your holes are in recruiting. I can see where you're holes are in culture. Oh you made this big sweeping decision. You didn't get feedback from anybody. I could sit here and kate at you. That's not going to get to a breakthrough. I need to ask you questions to figure out what your mindset was to get there and then keep asking you questions so that you start to see these gaps in your own knowledge and then that opens them up to two suggestion more than just me saying. Here's what you did wrong. And here's what you need to do. Better nobody.

Called burning the light by this committee named same talent that just chronicles this old road. But then i had been working on the road so much. Like i'm just going to put this down for a little bit and then i read comic books. I've been reading comic book since i was a kid. But it's just like an escape for me. And i mean comic books. You are not even nerd anymore. It's mainstream goal. You might say like it is just so funny like everyone's like easy showing cheating like grew up reading these things like what i mean. You had to be deep into comic books salah guardians of the galaxy and showing all. This is like. It's so funny because you already know about him like forever a guy you know. I grew up on comic books. And you knew he was a character right. I mean you were like yeah. He worked at a comic bookstore. If you chunky so it was you know pretty deep into have you seen the movie. Yeah yeah. my son came home last night and said it's one of the marchetti says how and you made a comment earlier about thor snapping. His fingers fan of santos like that correct not door. But now what i was about to say is very relevant. I was gonna say. I knew what you're talking about. Because this year i've been watching all with my kids started during the pandemic. Yeah and so. They've seen them all. They love them all. But i'm trying to be a cool mom and so apparently is not working. I thought no no assists them all to it was a great time to catch on and this is total side again. Add we re you watch the man. So i told my wife. We were in the window watching the movie. And if you don't know story. I'm going to spoil it because it's moves very old. Yes but the lead scott lang him and his wife separate and then you know she has a new husband and they all get along. And i told my wife i go. That's the most unbelievable part of this movie. This movie about a guy that can be a giant or a little ant and communicate with the most unbelievable part of movie. Is that dynamic right there. That has a child who is divorced. I'm going to tell you it's not like that. You would rather believe that he actually became an aunt. Yeah way more believable to me than this. Like friendly dynamic where the ex husband like Hugs the guy who's with his ex wife. Now there's no version of that whatsoever as like. that's a stretch even for marvel. That's and then we're watching. Ted laso amounts great. The marvel would is fun to watch the family to marvell. What if cam. Yeah there on disney plot off at disney stuff but ted lasts was great. It's so good. I'm behind the season. This show. i do watch the show. Yes i have my friend in dallas on the visit him and he kept talking about it and he has apple tv so he sat me down to watch a bunch and despite him the entire time. And i mean the entire time going. Watch this part. this is funny coming up here. You got to see this watch watch. i'm watching. It was like watching it with less experience but despite him doing it the entire time. I've thoroughly enjoyed it. And i get why people like it because it is a show where you think okay. It's going to have some cynical bite to it but not this character is. it's refreshing. Want something like man when people said that this was a feel good show. Because everybody's talking about you getting tired of life pandemic and you down stupid as people ruining your day cut on ted last. I've said i'll be damned. They are right. Yeah got me. Feeling a little porn moustache. She got his optimism. But you got the shame from game. Yeah man that chick is fine. Because i remember everybody told us they said look is it may not that that none that was bringing that bill say they say man look up in real life and jesus hannah wedding wedding ham. She sold yeah sheets. She's about as tallish. Game of thrones too but yeah man he's characters so you haven't seen this show. I'm just telling you to give it a chance man. Because i'm glad i got on it because the show is getting so many good reviews people talking about it so much people love and his show. I'm sure i'm gonna catch it at the point where people gonna be like man fuck dish. So that's the only go that's already started. I just read at the beginning of last week. There's now the taylor lasts backlash. Backlash is good is yet right. You somehow makes this show is it and all that. Oh he's he's too nice. That's not realistic off. Ted laso backlash course. Wow it just started your fresh on. That bart jesus. I'm so glad. I got in here. Because i can hear people now. Wow you guys. Reload ted lasso. He's really annoying young that to manage show so phoning shows too hard to make you feel good. I heard the backlash. But i'm sure that that's coming up in new york. Jesus christ just won't shut up. How do you people like this guy. Fuck do all right. Everyone raised about this show. I watch is i. i guess. That's alright people will. Then you know what i'm not hip pretentious. Fuck like you. Lhasa ted last saw was it. Good and i have some things i complain about in there but man this show is just. It's just funny. Hit the okay. So if you haven't seen the show ted. Lasso is an american football coach. He teaches them or he's coached american football and people just love him because of his optimistic spirit and attitude man. The guys always always has always no matter how you try to bring him down he always you always has like a saying he always has like a quip. You always have joke. Y'all have something to respond to whatever negativity you're bringing in this situation. Oh well you ain't gonna bring ted down. Ted's gonna bring you right back up. Yeah he gets over there and he gets met with good old british sarcasm and just aggression and it just bounces off like anybody else would have been like. Fuck you guys. He doesn't let that happen. Yeah anybody would have been like especially americans. Yeah oh yeah yeah. America's would have been like. Fuck you you say. Hey would rub it in. Yeah but they meet many media in the whole country about why. Why a wakeup. And i'm not gonna say too much. But they he's been set up to fail when he's been called over to do this. And because these two different sports man. He's coached football not soccer. Which is their football so when they bring him over. And i'm not gonna have the details because you you know. The plays out throughout the series. But he's been brought over to pretty much just mess up. Man just messed the whole thing because he doesn't know soccer that's exactly why he's there because he's going to make the team moves in. The you know wasn't any jason davis. Yeah yeah i like him. Anyway so i'm already partial one of my favorite actors man. I've i am so happy for him because he was a net. Oh it jesse owens movie or something. He was he was in that he was so good in that movie man and he was one. His first time on. Doing dramatic acting are dramatic role in the movie. Just kind of all right and he got looked over for it. And i was like. It's been a better movie. Everybody talking about jesus today actor he is and so now. he's getting his chance. So i'm a little biased. Anyway because i like that guy so much. Now he's super talented. And he kills it here. Yeah but as mandated it. Don't get me wrong. Look unknown if you watch the show. I'm saying things you already heard. Let me just have my time. No corey the backlash is happening. You cannot have phony more before y'all let me just give you one last. Bit of ted lasso optimism before all these haters start trying to bring this showdown which you say. It's already going on. Because listen i'm going to be honest with you the way i really did start watching the show and get into. It is because of something stupid. I mean people now. This is probably was getting mad at the people. The the shows become so popular. Daddy just up. Stupid controversies over. So there's an award you all right martin. I want you because you're going to get you're going to do one thing you roll your gonna look at me like i say it's like it's my fault. Y'all been worn. I really have my interest. TV's White Guys Are in Crisis
"So we're going to try this episode to critique the position of white guys on television without sort of repeating the problem that white guys on television currently present which is that. they're not the point and yet they're the point. I want to dive in by talking about this great piece. Catherine wrote for vulture about the crisis. That white guys are going through genetic. Maybe you'd think it's not really an emergency. So bad so white guys are still of course all over television as they are in the world but they are on television in a different way in certainly in some new shows and they have been in the past. And you can see that in shows like peacock sitcom rutherford falls. Amc's genre bending. Kevin can himself and the two big hits of summer. Hbo's hotel drama. The white lotus featuring a bevy of white guys who were going to get into and of course ted lasso. Basically the white guy who used to be. Tv's default protagonists are not but who are they. What does it say about them. And us catherine have i. We're gonna keep talking now. I would just shamelessly coach from your piece. So why don't you tell us. It's central argument. Yeah for what i think the framing of it as a crisis it has been really interesting to see responses from two different sides of sort of people who look at the headline that are immediately put off by it. People who are like. I don't want to hear about a crisis for white guys like i'm done. We talked about them too much. And then of course from the other like terrifying side of white guys being like extremely mad at me and sending me all kinds of emails but it was in response to something. The only ones i can do week to week are the ones that are not cereals shows so i like i can watch below deck every week and i don't need to binge it i watch million dollar listing every week. I don't need to bend. that's fine. No those are just worn off just one offs anyway. But when i like. That's why i haven't started watching season two yet. Because i just want to wait till it's all out and then i can just been because i'll probably watch. I usually watch like three or four episodes of sitting all ten at once. I'm not like you think it's better for the show. Not for you better for the show to come out one per week or is it better for to drop all wants you know i go back. To game of thrones it really. Depends on the show but gamma thrones became an event every week we were like game of thrones sunday night and it was that was that worked and i was good with that like i wanted a would've binged. It came out all at once so totally would have been shipped but it came but it became such an event every sunday that it was fine. Right so i. I can't say. I normally would've said i'd like to bench because that's my. That's my viewing habits. Now evolved turned into those type of people especially during the pandemic. but it's a. I honestly feel some shows can pull it off lynch. What do you think better to drop one. Show a week or better to drop everything all once. Well i like ramona would prefer to binge it and don't know i think that i don't think there's ever going to be another like must watch. Tv like weekly event. Like game of thrones ever get another one of those now. I mean most people would agree. That that's never gonna happen again or does not people doing habits anymore. Kinda like carried over from what was how many seasons was it. You know it was garrett. Game of thrones. i think seven seasons. Yes so that carried over from like the two thousand whatever year it was right so i don't i don't think in twenty twenty one. I don't think that's people's viewing habits. I think people would rather binge. And i'm guessing that like net flicks and all these companies that do them all out at once did a lot of research and they've agreed that. I think you'll get more buzz on social and moral more people talking about it when you do it all at once as opposed to episode by episode because to me episode of you. Get buzz on each episode like there's was an episode for ted lasso. I don't know if you do you watch do you watch. I tried watching it and was just like okay. Okay so ted laso had a somewhat controversial episode four and talking about it on social media Which i think is sorta like olden times sort of like yeah days but it's gotta be a great show and honestly. I don't think it's a comedy. I think it's got to be big dramatic series that you can release once every week like apple plus released morning show once every week..

I think mainly that his dad hates everything which is a little bit on par with nate and his high standards and nate having as he's put he's very picky with regard to relationships. We know he has super high standards with regard to sports drink or particular brand of detergent. That is used on laundry. Nate's dad hating everything is perfect to map onto mate. If there's anything more they're they're like nate's family relationship is there more grist to the mill like. Is there a way to show how that has formed shaped nate. In some way like nate's power trip that he goes on is this because he has negative support at home or there's some kind of push back from his family we don't really know. I don't know that this episode gets us any further in that direction. But i it is at least a passing note about his his family on specifically his dad. Which as i was saying we know as an important relationship in the context of this show. So i i am interested to see if that was something or if it was just a joke and i guess we'll find out over the course of the rest of the season and beyond if there is something to point to their with in his family but his dad hates everything. That's all i know now. It's funny i'm trying to think it's it's it's a. I think one thing that you know sort of like free kick meets feedback which we're not able to do like the super feedback deep dive this time just because of the efforts of organizing this episode sort of late but you know just kind of like scanning a lot of the messages that i saw in the ted laso channel that there was like a bit of a feeling of i liked. This felt confused by the place in the story..

"For you sir. Okay so the woman. I love is in town. She's currently sitting in the other room. We haven't seen each other for a while. But she's going to be here for a while and so i thought i would try to find a show that we can watch together to like bond. You know what i'm saying and now look everybody's been talking about. ted lassos. so let's just say ted laso off the list. Please do not inundate my twitter telling me how good to alaska was. I know all right. And it's a little intimidating right now. Also because everybody speaks ted lasso. And i don't in that's getting a little annoying so so you don't know any ted lassoed all you've not seen any. I've not seen episode one no case of this season of any season. And that's just. Because i kind of got behind i kind of got a wacky travel schedule. I don't have apple tv. I want to be able to sit down. And banging are all at once so that i can become conversant in the in the whole thing in one sitting. So let's just take off. Because i just want you to know that. I got an alert on my phone. This is earlier ted. Lassos new episodes. Come out on. Fridays and my girlfriend. Rachel sent me a text earlier. That said hey. We gotta catch up with ted last night because tonight is episode four. So i'm i'm caught up on ted lasso and tonight i'll be officially like one hundred percent caught up on episode four of us. Okay this is trying to avoid so yes. Ted lasso follower. What do people watch that last call last hours. I don't know i'm not making fun of it. I'm just kind of overwhelmed by ted lonzo. Anybody eight seven seven seven seven. Espn hit me up. And i'm thinking. Listen y'all i don't want your crazy. Am i serial killer. Or am i going to get killed stuff. I don't want your nonsense. I want stuff. That's relatively lighthearted but fund your maybe ted lasso. Oh no but like pro. Hope excuse me preferably has some black folks in it. That would be nice. You know what i'm saying and we can watch as a family that's gonna make me laugh but also you know is pretty smart. That's that's what. I'm looking for suggestions. All right all right. I'm gonna give you a suggestion. It's not particularly funny. Okay but i don't need funny so that works okay. But i'm telling you clinton i'm way late to this party. I'm later to this party. Just like you're late to the ted laso party But i and. Here's why. I even know about this show because i was watching ted laso on apple tv and then said okay. What else can we watch. This was a couple of nights ago. You know i've been locked down now. I'm in quarantine until like monday or tuesday of next week. So thank you. And so my girlfriend and i were together. And we're we're going through this together and so we started watching again. I got it everybody. I'm late to the party. i get it. We started watching the morning show. Have you heard of them. I've heard of that show and that's media related. I could get into that. There's only one problem you've already told us. She don't have an apple. Tv so schmuck. Then that's fine that's awful. Tv that's fine. But that's a good suggestion is jennifer aniston is my hall pass. So i love jennifer aniston. Okay so that's one reese witherspoon is in it. She's really good It's a it's an amazing show. I had no idea about it. Steve curls in it now you ask the question you would prefer to have some black people in it. I have another caller. I will take any a friend of mine. I was telling a friend of mine about this. He happens to be a black gentleman and he said to me. Are there any black people in the show is that i promise you. There is a full cast of black people in this show. One of the ladies as a producer one of the ladies. There's an agent one. That's a good start. Let me ask a follow up question ahead as somebody that worked in the news industry in the capital united states of america it was frequently in new york. This is not a turn off. I'm just asking you. Is there potential that this is going to be relatively triggering on a professional level that intent. Which is. I'm just wondering. Put it this way. The answer is yes. I have no fingernails right now. Because we've been binge watching this show and it's making me crazy. This show how i it's like i'm such a nervous wreck watching the show and my girlfriend rachel. She's she's a cpa and she says to me what's going on with you like i hate when you bite your fingernails and i'm like this show is bringing back so many memories of himes in my own career working in the news slash sports industry where there's so much drama and backbiting and so on and so forth but okay. I'm telling you right now. This show is so good. And i'm only four episodes in so my suggestion for clinton yates and the love. My suggestion is the morning show okay. I'll write that down just for all of you. Who are hitting me up on twitter. I appreciate the kindness and this again not a knock on anything but if you're in like the marvel universe or anything like that that's too much pre wreck you know what i'm saying like that's too much required reading for me to understand it..

"Have you been watching. Ted lasso season to happen watching washington lasso season. Too rough set up. They've taken it way down. I think they were too popular with evangelical christians and traditional catholic so they decided to drive us away. I can't believe is that. I don't know if that's the case i mean i think it's it's i am still enjoying it. I don't know if it's If you know quite quite it's a slightly different Show in the second season. 'cause it's not like purely optimistic and upbeat there you have kind of a. You have mean guy coached coach lead tasso right the Oh you've got a very dark turn to the roy character. You got more f bombs. Kurt schlichter extra told me he's got too much profanity for him. And he swears like a sailor. Anna colonel you've got a lot more sexuality. I could no longer recommended for a family and i think that i think is oh. The writer's room. The show runner got too much positive feedback from people like me. I don't want those people watching my show all rough it up so much that you won't watch it anymore. I mean there is if there's a fair amount of cursing in the first season guys right can't has always been one with the the s bombs. I mean i. I would not eleven and nine year old girl sunny. Yeah i mean it's yeah it's it's it's it's i think it's kinda funny because it you know unusual to see a footballer of that sort cursing at Little girls instead of You know the the grownups that he's usually around but it's it's just a i. The Lead
Ted Lasso: Lessons on Leadership From a Fictional Character
"I for anyone who has the unfortunate fate of not having watched head lasso yet. What are you even doing people. How would you describe the character of ted lasso. So i think ted so is it shouldn't be a serious character right. This is a college football coach from kansas. Who is going over to coach. Manage in the english premier league. The whole setup feels absurd. Which i think is why the character seems to work so well because this guy is a. He's folksy. he has these things he will say. I mean come on. Sam was more open than the jar peanut butter on my kitchen counter. That's right y'all don't know. I like to keep the peanut butter open. That way whenever i walk back and just stick my finger and yet he has this inner goodness that i think when when he comes across people that they seem to react to you coaching football make. You are a legend for doing something. So i mean it's meno murdy well you know. I've heard that tune before. But here i am still dancing. Ted last. So is the quintessential mid western kindness guy. You know a guy who wants to do well in the world treat other people the right way and just kind of live life with optimism and kindness and all those like grape characteristics that we'd all like to have. Yeah i think it really is his relentless optimism. That wins you over in the show. Is there a particular scene in the series that you think really captures that element of his personality. You know i was thinking about this. In the first episode. He's gone over to england. He's been introduced to the media. He talks to the team. And everybody's obviously it's not going well and then him and coach beard kind of redecorate the office. They put up the john wooden pyramid of success. They put up. All these american touchstones like muhammad ali poster in the miracle on ice poster all in the office. And then roy kent the kind of the you know. The quintessential english footballer. He comes in the office and he calls him ronald mcdonald and i think he uses an expletive and then he leaves the office and ten lasso goes he thinks may now wait. We win them over if he thinks he's mad. Now wait until we win them over.

"So we could see a very hilarious kind of world where afc richmond is struggling for money and has to pander to local businesses or local sponsors or the kind of sponsors who are interested in seeing their name and the premier league. Because it's not happening right now so that could be funny and could be a thing we do. But there's an opportunity for an ugly fallout. I also want to go back to mars bars. Mars also in the discord posted a link to a podcast episode. That jason sued acres. Brendan hunt did with brunei brown. Who is a social worker. Professor researcher thinker. Somebody who. I didn't know very well before that podcast. I've only really heard the name. I loved that podcast. I wanna thank mars bars posting. That was from october of two thousand twenty. So it's from before the show was where the show is now. The show had blown up obviously but maybe not to the extent and hurt their take the way they talk about the show in that podcast is unique in very specific to some of the things that that professor has researched and some of the things that went into the show. It seems very clear to me that her research influence the writing of the show. They say as in that podcast. So it's a fascinating podcast. And i wanna thank mars bars. Were putting that in the discord. I would not have been able to listen to that if not so. Thank you very much for sharing. That and i encourage people to check that out. The podcast unlocking us. If you go into the podcast feet of it. You're not going to be able to find the older episode but it is on spotify if you have spotify which another itself is a terrible corporation to that point. Your friend in mind the great brooklyn's dead had been messaging me about ted lasso. They said that this was their favorite episode by far so far i make deserting by far but said said this has been my favorite episode of ted laso. What did they say. I love the rebecca. Norris stuff and how roy played into it and how kelly handled jamie and his interaction with dr fieldstone all the secondary pots. Really great this week. But the sam story line was just incredible in the whole team standing in solidarity with his protest in the way ted gave him a platform to speak about it to the press was also powerful and good. I look forward to seeing this build. It's interesting to see a show on a network like apple. Tv which is so connected to producing products not just a streaming service tackled. The idea of a corporation impacting country and the government's involvement in it. Yeah very salient points. Yes yeah i mean that an i are very much kindred spirits in that regard for sure and the foxconn the the iphone construction. The degradation just everything that apple has contributed to definitely not lost..

"These coaches are out there understanding that they their view and all their role in all this in really being articulate about it and standing up for their players in their players rights and everything that's going on in society is something that they're players can't ignore in these. These coaches stand up for their players. In ted's ally ship is a lot more like that. So ted still doing very good things in this heart is still in the right place. Just isn't working. And he kind of is intimating or thinks that it is or that it could work. And it's not so. There are things about ted's ted's leadership that are working wonders. The atmosphere at the club seems to be great doctor. Fieldstone observe this an episode two but the results aren't there on the field and the question is how do you turn what ten is doing into something like that. And i think that's where ted is struggling and it wouldn't surprise me if it gets worse for ted before it gets better in terms of emotionally because we haven't really seen that piece of it yet. We had a little bit of a hinted in episode one where he really brings up the things that make you cry just thinking that they existed and also make you cry because you no longer have them his marriage and stuff that that really dealt with season one. It's probably still very front of ted's mind and we just really haven't sat with that for a while and it does feel like it's coming. I mean the guy had a mental breakdown. This episode and lead tassone his way all over the joint. So what is next for ted it just it feels like it feels like there's going to be some dark days ahead before we before we see the light for sure. I wanna get into some feedback before we do free. Kicks clean up the rest of the episode again. You can send your feedback. In ted laso at post show recaps dot com or you can hit us up in the ted lasso channel in the pusher recaps patron discord And again since episode. "I was worried there will be backlash where people that did understand it and whose perspective is probably more valid than mine or who more on point than mine and i didn't see that feedback or that backlash so i'm thankful for that. I really am not that. I would have been unthankful or ungrateful if i did see it but i'm thankful that it appears that the show nailed this to people that are fans of the show and i think that was really important that they did that. that people didn't feel like it wasn't something other than you know really nice and powerful and beautiful and all the things that it was it was. It was such a great episode. Not just for for sam the the way this character negotiates this really difficult issue of being so incredibly proud about a thing in so incredibly excited about you know a spotlight moment the kind of thing that you know when you are in the public i you dream of these opportunities. You hope for this kind of success. And to of course as you say and i think that father issues have been prevalent on ted laso from the jump but especially this season so far or maybe just stands out more because you and i have for you and i because we were watching it on such a granular level but it does feel more prominent here in season. Two that to come. From sam's bother to point out the ways in which the partnership with dubai air feels like a slap in the face and like what's underneath it and the whole aspect of sirat theam oil and the complicated relationship with nigeria that that this represents for sam and his his navigation of going from something that he's so excited about to finding his way through that and feeling very very set and solid in his positioning against that was was really really beautiful to see from like taping off the uniform to the moment that he gets to speak to the press and really articulate where he's coming from but one of the ways that i really loved..

"Hopefully the yankees. Don't get too hot ahead of them Because of course activated damper on things. But i mean. It's it's so exciting to be jane right now. You gotta you gotta be happy about where the team is right now. I wanna talk about. Charlie montague i put a post up about this last night Just kind of you know. Late night thoughts. But i was watching season. Two ted laso. I've been real if either one have watched. Okay i'm going to be honest. What honestly well to catch you up. Jake is an amazing show. It came out last year last season. One was nominated for twenty emmys. So i don't know where he's been jacob but anyways it's about this coach anyone listening. Who doesn't know what it's about. It's about this american football coach like american football Who comes over to england and his coaching a football english football soccer our soccer team And he knows nothing about soccer but he goes out and you know. He has his positive attitude and Turns a team around from being you know subject to relegation to maybe not being subject relegation. I don't want to spoil it for anyone was watching season two last night the first two obscene two. And i i. It just reminds me of charlie montolio like we always talk about how charlie montoya was always someone who so positive And always sees the world in a positive lens and you know hearing about him staying in the clubhouse until eight pm. On sunday or saturday Waiting for jose barrios to arrive and you know playing as von goes in his office and just waiting to welcome. Jose burritos and joakim soria. It just reminds. Me of. Ted lasso in the positivity and i think we have to give some credit to charlie montoya the team. We're seeing right now. Through all the thick and thin of the early seasons six game losing streaks Although blown games out of the bullpen whether you entirely montolio or not This team has stayed together. And i think the amount of fun we're seeing this team have. Some credit has to charlie montoya for keeping this team loose creating such a good culture in the clubhouse having this team spe- so close there's a leader at the forefront of that and that's charlie montoya so i think As much as we can criticize what he does on the field and we definitely will and we definitely have. I think his talent at building a clubhouse building strong relationships and building a team behind the scenes to me is just unmatched and inspired by ted lasso. But i think it's definitely an appreciation that we should put on the record because he deserved it..

Two premiere of ted laso directed by declan lowney. A written by brendan hunt. Aka coach beard gets the honors. Stay antonio that. Danny rojas killed the dog. You could assign that to coach. Beard considering brendan hunt wrote the episode. Someone killed a dog. Yeah in the in the room or on the on the pitch someone killed a dog. And i cannot believe that that is the sentence one minute and thirty seconds to this podcast i. I would not have put any money on that. The odds would have been quite long on ted last season two beginning with the death of a dog and yet here we are the old yeller episode. My god right alert for all. Yeah right at the gate. "This is the you can let go jack. Kinda kind of conversation. That really really got me. The first time. I watch it and i was. I was no better prepared on on the rewatch. Watch me neither. Every time i watch it it gets me love with your eyes love with your mind. Love with your dare. I say forever like that. It just ted is so willing to do anything and everything even including moving across the globe to give his family space to try to make this thing work. He said he's never going to give up on anything in his life and for someone with that quote unquote what he calls perhaps parenting his wife perhaps not he's constant optimism being too much quote unquote like understanding that. You can't fix things sometimes like you cannot make something work. You cannot make it right. There's some things that you're going to experience in life that you can't just power your way through with optimism that you have to sit with and you have to understand the impact of and you have to get to acceptance with. It's just so wonderfully done in this episode. And i it like i said it squares it up right away with ted talking to rebecca right at the beginning about his issues in the. My constant optimism is too much. he says it's sort of as a joke in an off handed biscuits with the boss conversation. That rebecca is sort of barely part of but it really sets the stage for what is to come in this episode. That's longer than he thinks that. And that's another metaphor is ted is running across the field to his family. It is a much longer run And this relationship will will come to cause ted so much pain but it is so central to not only why he is in the show But how is ways and how his ways of being. Ted laso can sometimes not be enough that there's sometimes needs to be more to it that he needs the support of other. Sometimes it is important for him to lean on other people to talk to them to share..

Ben Rector Gets in the Christmas (and Thanksgiving) Spirit
"Your christmas album of ben. Rector christmas is so brilliant so much. I'm glad you like it really like it. We were listening to it this morning. The office i've been listening to it. While i'm baking at my house through an thanksgiving song that hit like i mean people went nuts for that thing. I was actually really surprised. So i was gonna my manager. Greg was like hey like you should really try to write some original christmas songs and i was like well. I think what people don't understand about christmas music is it's they're used to the song so you don't really remember how good they are. It's really like the greatest hits of the last hundred years of music truly. You'd like i just write another christmas song. It's like the last three songs that were added to the holiday music. Canon gary and then wham and paul mccartney and paul mccartney went on like honestly like various weirdly similar since christmas and so i was just like been a million people. Try to write christmas songs. And even once some that are pretty good and it's just like i it's just tough to exist in that world because the classes are so good and i was like maybe right thanksgiving song so it came out like better than i thought it would and i thought it would just be like. Oh people will maybe like this song. That's great and then as it kinda started to happen like radio. A lot of radio stations played it and like it was like kind of rolling. And i was like what if this could actually become like the thanksgiving song i people reacted to it. More strongly than i thought they would. I thought it'd be a song and everybody was like this song. I was like that's awesome right. I mean apple picked it when it apple that made it. They're like song of the day is amazon amazon. I mean that is no joke. Then it was it was. It was a on the radio. Top ten song crazy. What a so what happens now is not you. Will you sing that when you are on the road next year i thought about that i was like i think in the month of november. I probably could really we did like how after thanksgiving because it went well enough that i think all of us were like wait. This could actually like if we pushed it for a couple more years. It's possible that it would happen every year because a lot of radio people were like we had to make this tradition. And i was like from your lips to god's ears like mass idea. You've had what i'd new can. I'm like a body going to be on my pinky but yes we had a caller just like what could we do to try to make this happen again next year. So i would imagine that. I will play it if i do shows november. That's a good month to do it. But i don't know if i could do it before then but i would love it if it became something any honestly outside of radio or whatever it just became something that people wanted to listen to around thanksgiving that would make. That'd be happy enough with that. I just i had door. It's so this is against unfunny. It's such a kind song. Thank you so much just feels very like friendly and understanding. I wanted it to feel like a like a warm hug. Yes did that. That's why you accomplish. That was the goal. That ain't how it feels. And i i will be interested i. I wonder if it's if it's the ted lasso of music in that you love that people get your face you gasped. Here's the thing in two thousand twenty. Ted lasso is the medicine we needed island. Think that will stay true and twenty twenty one and i think that's true of your song. I'm a big believer. That i think like sincerity is gonna come back because i feel like so much of pop culture in the last little while has kind of been like ironic and like not as much just like heart on your sleeve sincere and i kinda think that especially also with there being not just in two thousand twenty but in general a little bit less like human connection and a lot more like connection online or like digitally in whatever way i kind of think sincerity is gonna feel wonderful for a while. I think that's going to be like the new cool thing. Maybe because it just like so much stuff is a little bit cool and like irony. And whatever and i think that that stuff can be great. I think that some of the stuff that started to connect ted lasso other stuff like that. I think people kind of like yearning for like. Oh yeah just like good stuff connection. How did you decide. What christmas songs on this with. All those options. Yeah i honestly. Half of making the christmas record was just because it sounded fun to like to arrange and seeing some of those songs so a lot of it was just like i was like these songs on the most fun to do and i think the idea is that like my hope with the album is it will over the next however many years add to it at different places and have like other volumes of it. Oh yes so. I think instead of being like i'm gonna wait for years and make another christmas record like literally next year. We might just like do three more songs and do another like a different edition of the vinyl or something. Let so some of it was knowing that i was like. This isn't the only christmas record ever gonna make so there's no pressure but a lot of it honestly was just like these songs. Sound the most saying what a great thing about how music is created industry and twenty twenty. Plus is that you can go. Let's add three more to that. And it just upload to spotify or upload apple or yeah right. Yeah that's brilliant so it can be a thing that continues to grow with under the same umbrella of ben rector christmas. I think we're kind of honestly looking at it like it's like a air quotes brand where it's like you know not. I'm not gonna do it every year but like maybe every other year just kind of being like hey like we're going to do another run of the vinyl in another edition on spotify. That essentially will be apple music and amazon all stuff. That'll be kind of like another edition of this record. Do you want to write more thanksgiving songs or do you feel like that's the one i don't know if i could beat that one. I would love honestly to right. We joked about like oh. She just released as a gag. The thanksgiving song again with just slightly different lyrics every god this president and stay. Whatever i do think Another i think some of that song was a happy accident of like pressure. Just like this is maybe a thing but i think as soon as it was like cool do that again. It's like i don't know if i could. I would love to write. I'd love to try to write original christmas songs. Or maybe like a new year song or whatever. But
