"Yeah. All right, let's go through the rest of the draft here. So we do think we got a starting lineman though in cold strange. Yeah, I think that that's a guy that can come in and play guard right away for the Patriots. Really interesting, fun player in terms of that guy just, he wears his hard hat, right? He just brings it. Every single game. Great motor, great tenacity. I think he's got far more upside, but we talked about that having a guy that can play in there that has some center experience that kind of nose protections know the line. They really did well with that with Ted Keras in the lineup and I think Kara is also maybe underrated in terms of his physicality and nastiness that he brings to the table. I think cold strange is a lot like that. Yeah, and I think I said it when we were talking about this during the draft and I'll say it again. Belichick talked about the value last year of having David Andrews and Ted Keras who were both centers. Yeah. At the line of scrimmage and what that means for pre snap communication and pre snap identification. Strange was primarily a guard at Chattanooga. He played some center. I don't know that he's going to have the same impact that Ted kerris did played center in the NFL for a full season, but you do get a little bit of that. You do get a little bit of that. So that one's interesting to me. Yeah. I agree. I like that pick. I love Zach Tom too, because I'm really high on Sean Ryan from UCLA, but I think Zach Tom has a similar projection to the NFL, where he has an opportunity with his movement. He's really quick. He's really agile. He can move laterally. He can get out of his stance. I think you can play guard or tackle, which I think is definitely something that they need to have here because whether it's playing him at left guard or it's backing up Isaiah wind and Trent Brown or potentially starting there down the road in 2023. They need somebody that can play both inside and outside. I think Zach Tom can definitely do that. Has the athleticism to certainly play tackle, even though most project them inside the gorgeous because that's probably where he's going to be his best possible self. I think that there's going to be plenty of reps for him at tackle if they take him in training camp and things like that as well. Yeah. And then we moved up to get Bo Melton, the kind of I think this is the first time we've moved up between the two drafts. Melton is the kind of guy that will move up for. He can play the slot, but he can play it vertically. I think getting a more vertical slot guy with the way Mac Jones played in Alabama would be a big help. It's one of the fastest players in the draft..

"And upgraded that spot opposite from Deandre Hopkins who lines up inside a lot there. And go from there. But yeah, they didn't. Yeah, no, my favorite thing about this show is forcing you, like I've learned like you talk about like a subterfuge campaign. Like I've been, I've been trying to just like force you slowly into awful takes, you know. And by the end of this, you're just gonna be defending, you're gonna be defending like Jason Garrett as an offensive mind. You're gonna be like, he had some good ideas, you know? I mean, I have so many bad takes just on the surface. I appreciate that you're digging a little bit deeper here. Yeah, you know, this podcast is fun. I enjoy spending a lot of time with you, but I think that there's also some 3D chest to be played here. So we'll wrap it up with some offensive line talk. I was kind of hoping and I'm gonna check I'm gonna check the transaction wire one more time to make sure he didn't sign. I was hoping to run arms said it would be signed by the time we finished the show. It's ten 35 Eastern Time on Sunday Night. And no, he's visiting the dolphins that seems like the most likely outcome here. Is he ends up in Miami where they obviously need him because they haven't had a left tackle since they traded Laramie tunsil for all those draft picks, which they then used on offensive lineman who didn't pan out. So yeah, taron arm said still up in the air here, but Lyle Collins lands with the Bengals the Bengals sort of rebuild basically center right guard right tackle this off season they'll have Ted Keras and then Alex Kappa and now Lyle Collins going center to right here. And yeah, it's a good signing. He's a guy who's been a little bit banged up in and out of the lineup, had a suspension last year. But, you know, if you're going to roll the dice on a guy and there were plenty of teams interested, this makes plenty of sense. Yeah, I think in Cincinnati, it's going to be interesting that once the offensive line is fixed, I think that the narrative then changes to Cincinnati needing to design something a little bit more efficiently too. And I was surprised. It blows my mind and I think I would love to see somebody kind of break this down and pair this out for me, but I still think the time to throw metrics that are available to us, right? I think are flawed, right? Because Jill burrow is like one of the fastest time to throw quarterbacks in the NFL. Boy, that doesn't feel right to me. It feels like he has, he doesn't have a lot of the lightning fast built in reads that a lot of other quarterbacks have. I could be wrong though..

"But to this point, it does feel like they've moved backwards not forwards. Yeah, I think the biggest concern that I have along, I agree with you a 100% with the Shaq mason trade is that this isn't just about top of the market guys like Allen Robinson, right? I reported just a few minutes ago that the Patriots had some legitimate interest in Alan Robinson, but as soon as they heard the money, they bowed out. And others have reported that Brennan Scarlett was a target for the Patriots from the dolphins. He ends up going back to Miami on a one year deal for low money because the Patriots were the other team involved, but didn't want to pay him more than the dolphins were offering him. Ted Keras, one of their own, right? He gets more money from Cincinnati. They won't match it. They were never at all, you know, involved in JC Jackson, really. They never really made a concerted effort or a legitimate offer that JC was actually going to take that to bring him back here. So this is top of the market guys like JC and Alan Robinson that they're low balling or not interested in because at their price point, it's mid tier guys. They were interested in jakeem grant. They pivoted to time Montgomery because he's the cheaper option. Even guys like Brennan Scarlett who I think we're gonna find out here got 6 million bucks to go back to the Miami Dolphins, the Patriots too expensive for us, right? So everybody right now at every tier for New England is too expensive. And I personally don't think that fans should take that. I'm not saying that we have to freak out and scream and yell and panic two days into free agency. But the fact that this team that Forbes just evaluated at $5 billion is trying to use money as an excuse for why they are not making their roster better is a shame. It's a shame. I shouldn't even say a shame. It's a sham, right? Because that's truly not what's happening here. The Patriots have the ability, they have the flexibility to move cap around and to make it happen if they want to make it happen when it comes to signing guys. They don't want to make it happen. They don't want to pay the money. And to me, that is more of a disservice to the fan base than anything else that they could possibly do because that means that they are not investing into the product on the field. Sure, you can go ahead and rebuild your lighthouse, right? And you can put your new stadium half a stadium up there, Robert Kraft, but you're not actually going to go out and make the money, put money on the field in the on field product. That to me is a complete disservice to the fans. Again, there's a long way to go. I don't entirely, they can be flexible. So this to me is why it's different. They're generally flexible with cap when they need to be, right? They may not go ahead and open up $60 million to sign the top receiver and top pass rusher on the market, but they generally do have some level of flexibility, I don't think they've exercised one of those opportunities this year. In terms of player retention, they traded Shaq mason. That was their move to free up cap. They haven't done it in terms of restructures..

"Is a playmaker on offense. We'll see how he looks physically. It sounds like he's doing well coming off that hip injury. If he's in good shape, right? Having him back from Mac Jones, it's going to be a big deal. That's going to make a difference. Doesn't mean they're done. I got offense. Doesn't mean they couldn't use another wide receiver, but he will help them. He'll definitely help. So I think the one thing that I think Brandon Bolton, like you said, he did a really nice job filling in for James White. And there were certain routes that Brandon Bolden ran that were on James White's level. Like I thought that Brandon Bolton was a really good wheel route runner last year coming out of the backfield as a screen back. He had some good plays with a football on his hands on screens and misdirection plays, but he didn't have that ability that short area agility to get open in a one on one matchup like James White can, right? He doesn't have that shiftiness or that one on one ability. And the Patriots are so good, especially backside of getting a linebacker on James White and getting that mismatch and being able to have James White just go to work on that option route coming out of the backfield and Bolden was not really that type of guy, right? You just wasn't that he's not shifty at the top of the route like James White is. That is such a really useful tool for the Patriots and obviously for Mac and I think that that's going to be a big thing to have him back as well. A couple of other things that happened while we were sleeping probably from a lot of us, but off the air yesterday. Big kick Nick back for two more years. The Patriots ink Nick folk. This one also sounds like a slam dunk for New England didn't cost them a ton didn't break the bank and one of the most consistent kickers in the league over the last couple of years. Yeah, he's been excellent and no brainer. You know, didn't want to dip into the kicking market. What did young way coup get from the falcons today? He got big money. Big money. He's one of the few guys who's arguably even better than folk over the last few years. So they get him back for two years. I don't think quinine was going to be the guy. He was very fascinating last year, certainly, but his accuracy was still a question that's not something you can just snap your fingers and fix right. So yeah, this was a no brainer. Good, affordable deal. No reason to be upset about this one. Yep. So that pretty much sums up where we're at now with the Patriots. I can rattle it off really quickly here. They've re signed Devin McCourty, Matthew slater, Brian Hoyer. James farron's Nick folk and James White. They have traded for Mack Wilson. They have tendered Jacoby Myers, and they have lost Kyle van noy, Ted Keras, JC Jackson, chase winovich, and now Shaq mason, obviously they've lost a lot. It's still early on..

"And on patriots press pass. I'm Evan Lazar, joined as always by Alex barth and we already have a lot of people angry in the comments. We already have a lot of people going crazy about the breaking news of patriots within the last hour trading starting right guard Shaq mason to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a 2022 5th round draft choice. It frees up a little bit over $6 million in salary cap space for the Patriots and at this point it's getting harder and harder to justify some of these moves to explain some of these moves to all of you. And I think most importantly, the Patriots are taking on water here, right? I mean, they already came into this off season with quite a few holes to plug. Now you look at it and you see JC Jackson's gone. They have multiple spots to fill on the offensive line. We went into this off season thinking there was maybe one hole to fill on the offensive line and potentially a guard spot or a tackle spot depending on how they felt about Michael on wenu and where his future held. They let Ted Keras get away. They still have no idea there is a right tackle situation going on that they haven't figured out yet. And as much as I want to sit here and be patient and say there's still another shoe to drop because you don't free up tap space like this for no reason. Clearly they're freeing up the space for mason to go and do something with it. But I don't know I'm having a difficult time even me who is mister optimism when it comes to the Patriots most of the time. This is the positive show. Most of the time when it comes to the Patriots, it is difficult to continue to explain away not only getting rid of these players and letting these players move on, but also justifying the return that they're getting for a lot of these players is difficult to stomach as well. Yeah, look, the idea of trading Shaq mason in general, you know, isn't horrible. It would have been a lot easier to swallow if they kept Ted Keras, but that they obviously didn't. But I look at it, they made a comparable trade with the same team in Logan mankins. Now here's the difference. Logan mankins was 32, right 32. Let me make sure I have that right. Logan mankins was 32. He might have been, no, he has 32. Logan makes was 32, and he wanted a new deal. He was holding out. Shaq mason's 29 under contract for two more years. They got a fourth round pick and a contributing caliber player when they traded Logan magnets. They got a fourth round pick and they got Tim Wright. They got a 5th round pick, full stop for.

"In those conditions, I could see it being low scoring overall. I think I'm gonna go with the Patriots need to put up at least 24 points to win the game. Somewhere between 24 27 somewhere in there to win that game up there. Second question, this is a talking point, big picture thought from the season and it's gonna be one you'll probably hear. Really up until this game comes and probably after this game on Saturday, whether or not they win the game or not. Do you consider the 2021 22 season a successful season for the New England Patriots? It depends how it ends in Buffalo. At this point, at this point, without another game. Its success, sure, it's successful, but I would label it as disappointing the way they have finished. You know, one win down here down the stretch against Indy or buffalo or even this game where better starts. Look, you know, we talked about their starch early. I didn't even give out the stat. And those three games that they've lost, they fallen behind, combined, 57 to 7. How can anybody be not disappointed at that? I mean, that's just coming out in the biggest games of the year. Some of the most competitive games of the year and you're just not ready to answer the bell. How does that even happen? So if they go to buffalo and get wiped off the field, then I reserve the right Brendan to say that this was not a success. That would be ten and 8 for them. Last year they finished 7 and 9 with less talent, certainly less free Asian additions, Cam Newton at quarterback. Ten and 8 would not ten and 8 with basically not being in the game in Buffalo would not be good enough for me. Very open ended question I realized too and you can factor in, can they win in different ways, which is why I'm curious what it looks like in Buffalo on Saturday because if they do somehow pull out a come from behind win, then they get some credit for that, right? But if they could also get up early and that's the formula they've needed. So it makes you picture wonder. Question three is a league question. The firing of Brian Flores, what was your immediate reaction to when you saw this news? Surprise. It was surprised. I mean, I know and I've talked about it for the past year that I've heard that some of the players in Miami have not liked the Brian Flores experience. I mean, I don't have any tangible evidence to give you. I've just heard that. And I know some of the guys, you know, whether it's Kyle van noy or Ted Keras, guys who have come back to the Patriots. I haven't talked to them directly about this, but I have heard that they've, you know, generally. I think Kyle was okay with it. I think he didn't like the ending that basically, you know, Flores Flores has been a tough person to trust for some of the players. Kyle van noy signs to go down there all of a sudden he has a good year he does exactly what he does here and it gets cut and you know Ted Keras goes down there. He did not have a good experience down there. You know, but I thought Bryan Forrest was doing a good job. I think they just didn't have the quarterback or they hadn't solved that yet. Maybe it was the start of the season that doomed him, but I think he's a good coach..

And Brandon Bolden. That was hella run there 15 yard touchdown run. Patriots her score of the game. Make it 17 7 Miami at that time. Patriots with two rushing touchdowns on the day. That's brought to you by Verizon. This is the end of the game Russian touchdown update Verizon teaming up with Damien Harris and patriots for rushing to help first responders this season on New England's first responders, nominate your first responder now in the contest page. At 98 5 a sports hope. Dot com. So buck 34 as a team of the ground couple of touchdowns, but they were still 8 out gained on the ground by the Miami Dolphins. 43 carries a 195 yards rushing with one touchdown and we bring in Greg beard of Boston sports journal as he joins us each and every week in the postgame here on the Shaw's patriots postgame show. And so Greg is the reason the Patriots lost this game in Miami 33 24 today, mostly on the defense and the fact that they got gashed in the running game again. Well, Jim, I mean, I don't think there's any shortage of, you know, candidates for why they lost this game. I think that number one, I think Mac Jones played shaky in this game. You know, he had the pick 6 on his first pass the temp of the game, put him down 14 nothing. He had the fumble fumble snap exchange with Ted Keras at the Miami 22. That took points off the board, the dolphin scored a field goal after that. Mac Jones took responsibility for that play after the game. It didn't sound like him just being a good teammate and to me the snap looked fine. I think he just pulled out early. You know, the team falling behind again, it's just been a constant theme. Between the colts bills and now the dolphins, they had a combined deficit of 57 to 7 to start those games. And the defense couldn't hold again, and they got pushed around in the running game. So I don't know, take your pick. The bottom line is, it's just not good enough. Not nearly good enough. Can you explain their struggles against to a now three and a versus the Patriots and if you look at buffalo and only have come into New England now two years in a row in one, is this a sign of things to come that the AFC has become more tough than the patriot struggle against these teams now? I mean, you know, Miami has swept the Patriots for the first time since 2000, the Patriots are now dropped three of four to both the bills and the dolphins, which, you know, three or four years ago, you'd say they'll like that's never gonna happen. But it has now happened. You know, their struggles with two of who's now three and O against them. You know, Joe, it's a good question. I mean, I would start with the run defense. I think that the run defense has not nearly been good enough the past two years and really you need to get in a situation where and this is what I thought the dolphins did a good job of today with Mac Jones is that, you know, you got to you got to defend the run better and you got to get them in the long yardage. You need them in third and 8 and third 9 and third and ten, where they have to rely on it. This was another game similar to the colts game where the defense was so porous and the start was so porous that they could they could avoid their quarterback and that's they largely did. I mean, even on the last drive of the game, they called a pass on first down, which was fine. I mean, the guy was wide open. But how many challenging throws did to a really have in this game that he completed? And the biggest play that he made was, you know, scrambling when Matthew judon runs right by him in the pocket. And to me, it starts with the problems with two it starts with, you gotta, you gotta make it to a center game. You have to make them force them to drop back to the beach you through the air. And the Patriots have failed to do that every time they played the dolphins. I think he did air it out in week one this year. But, you know, I think that was sort of a game plan choice. I just don't think they have defended well enough. They haven't put them in bad situations, and so he hasn't been a turnover machine against them. I mean, he's back and forth, but when you're really soft in the middle and the Patriots have, you know, all season and they always have trouble when you have to worry about all right, they're going to read options to quarterback going to run. You know, they play a lot safer, play a lot softer coverage when that happens. All of it is just a problem for this personnel and this defense. Craig, how much do you think the coaches were complicit in this loss today, specifically on play calls like that, fourth and one situation, where Mac Jones, you know, he's part of that issue where the head bob or whatever it is, they get called for the penalty there and it screws it up and Bill Belichick after the game was talking about how it was executed poorly. But why not line up and just, you know, we're going for this. Fourth and one, he's pulled off a fourth and one. In Buffalo, you know the win in Buffalo before the kid can do it. I just thought that they overthought a situation like that and I blame the coaches. Yeah, it was almost like something that they worked on during the week and they said, oh, well, we feel confident that we'll be able to execute in the dolphins will be dumb and they'll jump offside. So we're going to use that here. I just didn't understand the call. I didn't understand not going for it in that situation. I mean, you know, it looked like it was just scared money. Why are you holding back? Like, what are you afraid of with the dolphins, even if you turn the ball over at midfield, as long as you're, you know, not God awful in the run defense. Wait, you think two is going to do much? I mean, when he got the ball back, he was terrible. I didn't understand that. I think it again shows. This has been a constant theme throughout this year. That Bill Belichick does not trust this offense. He doesn't trust Mac Jones. He doesn't trust that they're going to not screw it up, but I didn't understand that. It was akin to the Tampa Bay, fourth and three. The other sort of situations where you're just like, you know, really what's the risk and reward here? Why not go for it, try to get a little bit of momentum going into halftime? And then come out with the ball. I mean, it could have been a whole different ball game. Instead, you know, midfield, you're just trying to draw the dolphins offside. I thought it was weak. Hey Greg, I just have to ask this because I know you have an article on it, who should the Patriots want to play in the postseason and people were doing that before today's game? Do you think the team was looking at it that way at all? Maybe who they dressed who they played or they sat and during the game did some scoreboard watching or do you think they just played bad a bad football game today? Yeah, I don't think that I didn't get that sense at all. I mean, you know, high tires had a banged up knee when he's been out there. He hasn't been good. So leave him home, let him rest. You know, guys who are, you know, really, you know, pushing it with an injury, you're safe. I mean, I don't know about Andrews has had some, you know, little injuries here and there, shoulder, stuff like that. You know, maybe at some point you're like, you know, this isn't going this way, so we're gonna go with Keras or whatever. But I didn't get that sense. I just thought the Patriots put like crap, just like they have to end this season. I mean, to finish with three losses in four games, where if you just win one more of those games, then, you know, you might even have a chance at a buy, you know,.

"The Patriots ability to before this game call up like Daniel ukulele or whatever that guy's name is who had a sack in this game. I had no idea who that was when he made this. Yeah. But to be able to call up a guy like that and see the game and be like, well, we're going to need more defensive linemen. Or we're going to have Michael wenu as the 6th offensive line. And we're going to be able to put Nikhil Harry in for Jacoby Myers, who Jacoby Myers couldn't block his way out of the paper bag in this game. And we're going to put Nikhil Harry in there to just be a run blocker. Like their ability to be able to shift their roster to play a game like this. Was basically anybody who ever wanted to blow anybody about Belichick and his roster construction. Why is this guy on this team? It's for a game like this. Now, do I think that these games require that you have some of the guys that he has on the roster? No, but this, you know, and so this was one game. But there's no question that the Patriots roster construction was way better than the bills. The bills couldn't really answer the Patriots their best runs came out of their tank personnel, running back, fullback, tight end, Michael wenu, and one wide receiver. I think that's right. Two tight ends, two backs and one wide receiver. And the bills, that's basically goal line offense. The bills, they couldn't field goal line defense, so they just had base personnel out there. Just by the math alone, the Patriots have a huge mass advantage. They have a huge size advantage. You know, when the safeties come up, they're going to have to take on Jakob Johnson or John Smith or Michael wenu. It's just math. And so the bills couldn't match up the Patriots won the game even before started. Belichick loves sun tzu. One of those things, the battle is won before even begins. That was an example of that. All right, the quickest three up three down we've ever done. Three up. We've talked about how he's on your list. Raman ray Steven. I thought he was tremendous. He was a freaking bowling ball in this game. He didn't, you know, it was like 23 for 78, but just he never goes down. He always falls forward. He's, you know, broken tackles all over the place. I thought he was spectacular and my third, Kyle van noy, I thought did an excellent job on the edge against Josh Allen, keeping him in the pocket. He also did a really nice job in the run game and I have to give up also for the offensive line. Minus Trent Brown and Micah winnow. I did not think that they were great. They weren't bad. They weren't great. They just weren't as good as David Anders was great, Shaq mason was great. Ted Keras was great. And Isaiah win was pretty good. I just thought those other two guys were stepped down. All right, let's look at speaking of being a step down. Let's look at the three down. Yeah, a lot of people are going to say, oh, Nikhil Harry's great blocker. Look, it's all size. It's only if you give Jacoby Myers Nikhil Harry size, he would probably be a better blocker. He was okay blocking. He also missed some blocks and, of course, the muff was the biggest thing in the game..

"We knew that they were going to play for four quarters and we knew it was going to be a battle. And that's exactly what we got. That's what he said in that postgame. Locker room speech after the game on patriots dot com. So they knew that this was going to be a dogfight. They knew this was going to be a grind. And they were able to eventually get the football and run it in the fourth quarter. I think they had 47 yards rushing heading into the fourth quarter and then they had 53 yards rushing or 54 or whatever it was in the fourth quarter alone. So they really broke out the running game late and were able to break through there. So early on, I was a little bit surprised to see how hard the tackles, jobs were with the edges of the Titans defense, but again, I guess maybe when your coach by Mike vrabel is one of the best edge setters in patriots history. That's what you get, right? You know, maybe that's where those guys are getting coached up properly on the techniques and stuff like that of edge settings. So we'll see. A lot of questions in the chat about Mike on Wendy. We're gonna get these questions all season long when it starts playing some more. I don't know where they put them. We keep talking about this. I don't know where they put them. You know, Ted Keras has been really solid for them. He did give up a sack, but other than that was pretty clean in this game. And he brings a cerebral aspect to the position that they really like. Bill Belichick gave on Friday what a 304 hundred word answer. About an hour, Ted Keras being a center as translated to guard and how important that is for the team and for the continuity and the chemistry and the communication of the team and all those types of things. So I don't know. I mean, we talk about this every week. They like Keras better right now. They think there's a glue guy for them. They think that he brings a different IQ and dimension to that position that isn't just about who has the highest Madden rating, right? This is about deeper things than that. And I mean, you saw Michael and when he was getting the game last week too, like, he can still play. I wonder if at a certain point, it becomes a matchup thing. Like, oh, hey, Ed Oliver is not a big guy. Like, you know, maybe we want Michael own wendo in this game to just bully him out of the game and then against the colts with Darius Leonard. That's a really smart player. Let's see if we can get that extra center out that Mike alone who's not smart. But let's get that extra setter Senate eyes on the field and Ted carrots against the colts. Like you can match it up, hey, we know we're going to run the ball this drive. Let's get Michael and wendo in there. Like, hey, there's probably going to be blitz is coming here. Let's get Ted in there. Right. It could be as simple as that. It could alternate them. Also, I think Harrison might own one of the same mad rating. I'll check that. And also, I think that 6 O line packages coming eventually, right?.

"A different gear. I mean, I know it was late in the game and maybe the brands that kind of let their foot off the gas as well. But that slant that he got caught from Brian Hoyer that he took like 45, 50 yards down the field. He took off. You know, he really hit another gear and kind of hit an explosiveness there that I didn't necessarily thought that he had in his bag, you know, just talking to people in San Francisco when they signed him, you know, media people in San Francisco that had covered him. They just said, look, he's not flashy. A lot of guys compared him to like a younger Muhammad Sanu. I don't remember the new ever having that type of open field explosiveness, even when he was at his best and ad as healthiest. So it really fun player to watch. Let's take one last one here. The Isaiah win conversation. This one is probably got as many legs as I've heard any conversation that have recently is what are the Patriots going to do with Isaiah win? Moving forward, is left tackle an area need. I even asked the question or posed a question. Is there an offensive line that exists with trend Brown at left tackle? Right. Maybe they feel like they're 5 best guys include brown and on when you play on when to add right tackle, you play Trent that left tackle and wind goes to the bench. I've been a patient with win. I've been somebody that's believed in his talent, but $10 million is a steal for a starting caliber left tackle next year compared to what he gets on the open market. But it has not been a great year for Isaiah win. He's been better of late. And he deserves credit for that. So I mean, some of it comes down to what do you want to do with Michael and winner? Do you want to put him back in a card or not? Because like we talked about Ted Keras is leaving. Let's say they do want to put him back in card. I think what you do, you know, you could bring back Trent Brown. I don't know what that would look like, but I think whatever happens, you know, you draft the tackle relatively high. Because either way, Trent Brown, what is he 29 now? Yeah. Right. So.

"Trent Brown was I tweeted this yesterday when I was watching the offense on the all 22, it was a Trent Brown highlight reel. From start to finish. Pancake after pancake, moving guys 8, ten yards off the line. You don't move NFL defensive ends or defensive tackles ten yards off the line of scrim. You see that on college tape, but you don't see that on NFL tape. And that's what trend Brandon Shaq mason were doing next to each other on Sunday. That was an absolute if you love offensive line play like I do and you love trenches and plays in the line of scrimmage, watching number 77 block on Sunday was a thing of beauty. I just can't. I can imagine Dante's Carnegie and was sitting on his couch watching that game on Sunday, just having a great time. Because they were just going to town. I mean, it was crazy how far they were moving that brand's front off the line. Let's talk about let's give them their kudos, but we also got to talk about Mike on Wendy being the other now too. Well, so just a quick another quick addition on the offensive line before we talk about it when I thought we already talked a little bit about how much success they had in the screen game, right? Yeah. David Andrews gardening. Just gardening. Just planting linebackers in the turf all day. I mean, he was able to win one to Ted character. He got a couple. Yeah, the block on Brandon Bolden's third down screen. It was early on in the game, gained 20 yards. Andrews and Ted Keras both had great blocks on that screen. And then Isaiah win absolutely pancake the defensive back on a wide receiver screen to kind of porn. And I feel bad for that guy. He just kind of laid down on the ground and was like, ouch, you know, you could just see the pain on the tape, but I mean, heavy hard hitting, just physical take it to them, really. It was a take it to them type of game for the offensive line. Yeah, they were they were really good. They were really good and miles Garrett got the sack sure. 12 Saxon on games..

"We'll have to figure out Isaiah win, I wonder if Isaiah wins performance in this game makes them reconsider the whole trend Brown thing. I think if you, nobody knows what they think of Trump Brown at left tackle anymore. Certainly played that when he was here. Everybody wants them to move, they haven't shown one inkling that that's going to happen from training camp to now his return. They had plenty of time to train them up in practices to be ready to play left tackle, Isaiah win has a 5th year option. It was very surprising that Micah Winnie was the guy to go to the bench when Brown came back and not Ted Keras or Isaiah win. That was interesting. But I think that this offensive line, the version that we saw on Sunday in terms of their run blocking, past protection for young quarterback to give him time, this is what we thought we were going to get when we started the season. It took of a hell of a long time longer than it should have for this group to round into form, but it's here and it's spectacular. I will say Josh McDaniels, you touched on this a lot earlier. He had a fantastic game. You know, he's figuring out things with this offense and what they are. We've been talking about their identity over the past couple of weeks. They're pretty much solidified upfront as you just mentioned. And they have figured out what works for them. And McDaniels, I think, was in such a groove on Sunday. And you look back, you know, was it first in 20 or whatever it was when they run the reverse to born? Great play call. You pick up a huge chunk when you're in a tough situation. Third and 13, I know Cleveland didn't play it well, but the Brandon Bolden screen. Good play call. Perfect timing for that. I just thought there were a lot of different calls. And you mentioned a lot of stuff that he did. I thought mcdaniel was excellent on Sunday. How about the receiver's Greg? Well, at least the past catchers if you want to include hunter Henry. Yeah, I just thought that in terms of catching the ball and making tough.

"Field, stays on the practice field is able to get the reps, I mean, look, I don't think he's gonna be in all pro this season or pro bowler. I don't even know if he's gonna start for this team this year. But he has potential to be a starter. I think at left or right tackle, sometime soon, if he keeps developing and he his feet were unbelievable, he you can make the argument that he's one of the most athletic tackles that they've had in recent years. I think that Nate soldier was a pretty good athlete. I think that could just has better feet than solar did, soldiers a little bit more powerful. But when I see just out there, I see Michael orr from the ravens. I mean, that's what he looks like to me and Michael orr was a Pro Bowl level right tackle. I think that Ted Keras did a lot for himself in this game. He even cooked up a couple pancakes. I love it. Syrup on my pancakes in the morning. Steady teddy was really good in this game and you know that he's tough as hell. Not the most athletic guy. But I think he put himself in a mix. So I think with those two guys and I think Haran did Haran did well in this game. He did much better for him. So maybe he's a better left than he is right. I don't know. I was gonna ask you that I think that those guys could just cares and her on have now put some of the starters on notice and, you know, when you're talking about when you're talking about a wenu that if they don't get their butts in gear if they don't raise up a level and play where they're supposed to be playing, then they're going to be put on the bench because the Patriots have other options now. All right, there's one thing I wanted to ask you about. Actually, two things quickly, they kind of go hand in hand. First of all, your thoughts on Josh McDaniels play calling in the red zone and his play calling after the punt debacle by Houston. I still don't know what the hell that was about. But McDaniels, I thought, you know, it's time to give Mac the keys in the red zone. It's time to, you know, allow your quarterback to do more that the three straight screen passes was absurd. There's just some of these calls, you know, running on first and second down and getting stuck in third and long and then running a simple play on third down. That's not going to get you the I mean, there's some of these things. Again, big picture, I think McDaniels put this team in this offense in a position to succeed on Sunday. I just have issues with that red zone area Greg. And some of these sudden changes of possession, the.

"We've broken it down on here a couple of times. And for the first time all year, David Andrews and Ted Keras passed it off like it was nothing. It was probably the cleanest stunt pass off I've seen out of any offensive lineman all year long for the Patriots. So David Andrews is in Ted Keras kind of fit in that same category of just experienced savvy, smart, instinctive type of football players. And I know everybody loves y'all need to use. I know everybody sees the upside. I do as well. I like the player. He's a fun watch. His technique is really, really, really wrong. And there's just too much of waste bending, poor hand usage, punch timing. Things that you look at from a technique standpoint that are causing him to fall off blocks, especially in past pro, but also as a run blocker, they got inside of him a bunch of times. One of the things that Dante is Carnegie is said when he was still here that always took out to me, was that when you run block and pass blocking too, but for the most part, the Patriots don't want anybody to get beat to the inside, whether your run blocking or pass blocking the worst thing that you can possibly do is get crossed on your face, right? Into the inside of the formation. Does that whether it's a quarterback standing in the pocket or it's the running back getting the ball in the backfield if a tackle or a guard is getting beat across his face to the inside, the play is over, regardless , right? So yami could use beat way too many times in that vein for him to be considered to me ready to be the starting right tackle. I think as time will come. I think that he's got a lot of upside and a lot of potential, but I think greatly outplayed him. And I'd much rather move on when to ride tackle and put Ted Keras in the starting lineup before we start throwing to juice out there..

"So you better team a team may look at you just said he played a solid 18 games before this season. They look at that and say, hey, it's just a slump. Here's a chance for us to get a starting caliber left tackle for a discount because like if you need a lot of tackle and you don't have a top ten draft pick, you're gonna be paying a lot more than $10 million to get your left tackle. So a chance maybe you move on from a player or a pick or whatever and a chance to buy it. I guess starting caliber tackle. I think he I guess what I'm saying is is I understand it from the other team's perspective more, but the Patriots are selling low on a very good asset. I mean, what are the Patriots going to get back in return for Isaiah win? I think it's a real conversation. I'm all set. I don't want Marlon Mack. You don't, they need another, whether it's Marlon Mack, whoever they would have rather give up a day three pick from Marlon Mack than trade my starting left tackle for him. I understand why everybody's so soured on win and he didn't even play it in this game, so I don't want to talk about this all that much. But I just, I really think that this is like getting extremely ahead of ourselves with Isaiah win because he played a couple of bad games in the first month of the season with a new left guard next to him. A rookie quarterback in the pocket. We're getting way too crazy. Wait, we're really jumping the gun on this issue. And I look at the ovens of mine that played on Sunday. And the two guys that really, really stood out to me, I have something publishing tomorrow about evaluating all of them. We're just in her own and Ted Keras. I think both of those guys played at his starter level. Yadi could choose has extremely streaky tape. He has moments where you say holy crap this guy's amazing, right? Blocks in the second level, athletic plays in the run game, being able to mirror guys and pass rush situations, some really, really good moments from Yannick juice, but the consistency and the technique is not there. He's just very, very raw at this moment in time. So his time, I think could come down the road. I think we're still premature to put Yannick inducing the starting lineup. Justin her on the conversation that I would have with him is he played left tackle in college, almost exclusively, is he a better left tackle than he is a right tackle, and that's why he's not playing as well on the right side when they put him over there because he was really solid at left tackle against the Texans. So this is kind of what I'm saying with win. It's not so much about me wanting to give up on win. It's that if him in Heron or wash, why doesn't that make one of them expendable? The problem is that you have, you have to start somebody at right tackle also. So open winner. So you think that the line should be harran Karis Andrews mason on when you're throwing out Isaiah win already. I'm saying I would I wouldn't lock into it. I'm not trying to do that today. I'm saying I would try it again and see how it looks. Because that might with Trent Brown out that might ultimately be. That might be their best 5. That might be their best 5 right now..

"Okay, it took them long enough to figure out you see her Durant can't play. And now they're still kind of like Justin herron had a rough game. He got bullied by cornerbacks in that game. Yanni produced his cell on the bench. So it's like, all right, you know, let's go here. I know they want to evaluate players early. I talked about that last week. All right, to me, they've been evaluated. I don't know what else they're waiting to see here. Let's go to the default options. Yeah. And this, I'm really reluctant to call it stubbornness because I think that that's not fair necessarily to Belichick. But this reluctance, let's call it that. This reluctance to move Michael on when to write tackle and put Ted Keras in at left guard is starting to cost them games at this point. And I think the reluctance is there because they feel like Trent Brown is coming back. And they don't need to play that card until one of their tackles is going to miss significant time. But we've talked about this so many different times. And the quickest way for your you can have Tom Brady and Randy Moss and all these receivers out here, you can be the chiefs. You can be the bucks. If you don't have good offensive line play, the whole House of Cards comes crashing down. It doesn't matter. If you can't protect the quarterback, then you're not going to have a good downfield passing game. It's that simple. So what they're doing by playing around with Justin Haran, who played most of this game at right tackle. As you mentioned, gave up 6 quarterback pressures, 5 hurries in a QB hit. And that was probably being a little bit generous with how many times he actually lost blocks, but wasn't necessarily graded out with the pressure. So Pam Jordan took his lunch money, right? I mean, it was. It was a bully ball type of situation with Ken Jordan. So what you're seeing is that at the downfield basing game that has all these new shiny new toys. It has a first round quarterback who is his eyes, Mac Jones is in the right places. He's getting to the right reads. He's trying to push the ball in the right directions and the receivers are creating those opportunities down the field. But they're not able to get them the football because of the protection. And that is very frustrating. And I think watching it live when you're only watching the TV broadcast and you're not seeing the openings down the field that the receivers are creating, we can fall into this sense of there's nobody open down the field, right? When in reality, this is a totally different issue that the Patriots are facing right now..

"It's pats and jets. Sunday, there's some injury issues on both sides here, which definitely could impact the game. It's a question of who's going to be impacted more, starting with the Patriots on the offensive line. Yeah, Trump Brown was back in practice today. I wouldn't say he looked a 100%. But it's good that he was out there. This was sort of a situation that he dealt with with the Raiders that basically the Raiders got sick of it. Trump Brown had this right calf injury. Was sort of in and out of practice in and out of the lineup. I talked to some of my sources with the Raiders and they thought that there were times where he could have done more to be on the field and he didn't do it and that was a source of frustration for them. Look, that's the raider situation that's something different. But with his history, this is a concern. He was out there today. That's great. I think it might be a stretch for him to play this week. You never know. But if he can't go, I would assume that the Patriots are just gonna plug in you'll see your Durant who finished up last game and played reasonably well for Trent Brown. I do not like the idea of moving people around to plug one. So you don't want to see on Wen who moved or something like that. Not really in my big concern is the jets are so big and powerful on the inside that if you go from a went into Ted Keras, teddy's not exactly the biggest guy in there. And I think you weaken yourself on the inside, how much better you making yourself on the outside. If I were them, I would take care of the middle first. And then I worry about Jonathan Franklin Myers who plays left hand for the jets. He was awesome last week against the Panthers. He was basically a one man wrecking crew. He's really the only guy that you have to worry about on the edge for the jets. And if I'm the Patriots I'm staying the same inside and if Durant needs help, I'm giving it to him. Yeah. For context, and again, this is a pretty classic Bill Belichick move. You often see injured guys who probably aren't going to play out there for those Friday. Walk throughs as long as they're not in a cast. Because I think it raises the specter of doubt for the other team. But again, it would be surprising if Trump Brown was out there, but who knows? This is a game. It's obviously build it's Mac versus Wilson. And that's how everyone's going to look at it. It's pretty cool to have within your division two rookie quarterbacks who are starting immediately facing off and potentially just a glimpse into what the division is going to look like for the last for the next several years. Now, you Wilson by most accounts did not have as an impressive debut as Mac did, but you were really, you're really impressed with this kid, and you really think the Patriots really have to be careful here. Yeah, I mean, I think the kid is just Uber talented. And it sucks for him and he's on the jets. He's on a rebuilding team..
