D.C.'s medical examiner tells The Washington Post intoxication, hypothermia, homicide, and other health related issues are to blame. More deaths are expected among the homeless population over the next several days with the cold temperatures moving into the region. Last year, a 138 homeless people died in D.C., the year before it was 180. On Monday, the Biden administration released a plan to reduce homelessness by 25% in the next two years, focusing on racial equity and affordable housing, among other initiatives. Massive amounts of fentanyl were seized in the U.S. this year, the drug enforcement administration says it's taken possession of enough of that drug to kill every single American. Underscoring the deadly threat, the DEA says it is captured nearly 51 million fake prescription pills laced with fentanyl and 10,000 pounds of fentanyl powder, together the agency says this is the equivalent of more than 379 million potentially deadly doses. This highly addictive man-made opioid is 50 times more potent than heroin, just two milligrams of it, which could fit on the tip of a pencil, is considered a potentially deadly dose. An independent city agency in Washington D.C. published a gun violence reduction plan earlier this year, but it hasn't stopped the number of youth shootings from soaring. I was just listening to you talk about divorce parties and what do women usually do with their old wedding rings and that sort of thing? I sold one, but I had a friend who had hers made in two a toe ring so that she could, in her mind, walk on him. That's all that was pretty funny. Wow. Why do people get married? You know, we hear these stories and we think, oh my goodness. Well, that'll never be me. I know. I know. I wonder if there's ever been a woman who's so pissed off about a divorce or a cheating husband that she bit down, took the pain and had his face tattooed on her foot. The bottom of her foot. So wherever she goes, she's walking on his face. I bet somebody has done that. After hearing the toe ring thing, it's just one step. It's one step. I would never do that, not because it would be wrong to walk on him. But because that's an awful lot of discomfort to go through and have an eye suffered enough. When he's done to you though, look what he's done to you. Just go through that pain, you have a lifetime of stepping on his face. We had a caller one time who said she took her wedding ring and had it in the shape of a bullet for a necklace because she put a bullet in that marriage. That's right, I remember that. I remember that, yeah. I can't believe we're talking about wedding rings 'cause I just went through when I visited my mom. Just a week or so ago, I can't even have lost track of the days. She was like, she wanted to talk about, you know, her end of life plans. And I was like, mom, oh my God, can we not? And she said, I'm 80 now. We have to talk about this. And she went and she's like, this was my first wedding ring. And I won't care me to have this because we share a birthday and a birthstone. And this is my second wedding ring, and I want Olivia. Ted gave her Ted K for more than one wedding ring. She was only married twice, but my late stepfather loved to give her presence. And so she has a couple of different rings. This is my second wedding ring, and that's for Olivia. And this is the last wedding ring that I had. And I want you to have this. And she's like, putting things in bags and I'm like, mom, you're scaring me, don't do this. Like, can we not, can you not pack up your house and give it to me? And she said something has happened. And my heart skipped a beat. Like, what is she about to tell me? Anyway, you know my mom is like a big church lady and stuff. And she's on all these committees where you help people anyway. One of the members of their ward had to go into the hospital and it got real serious and they ended up in ICU and then they had to go into a rehab hospital and I'm not really sure what all went on, but it was serious stuff. And so my mom and a group of other women at the church were asked if they would help make this person's home ready because they have to go in and build a wheelchair ramp and they have to put grab bars in the shower and all that, you know, like all that kind of stuff. So off my mom goes to help with this project. My mom lived, my mom is the most immaculate orderly OCD person you will ever ever meet in your life. I mean, it is compulsive, like clinical. This woman's house that she goes into, this woman hordes. Like she's never thrown a magazine away. She's never thrown an empty soup can away. That level of hoarding. My mom was so overwhelmed by it. They spent a week in this house. My mom was so overwhelmed by it. She said, I came home. And I emptied at least 25 to 30% of my belongings out of this house. And I'm looking around and I was like, not for nothing, but do you have a spoon for this tea? Because what did you give away? She gave away everything. Like she is down to survivor man level belongings. She can't take it. Like she just, she gets panicky at the thought of being surrounded by stuff. And the last thing she said to me when we left and pulled out of the driveway, she said, I have to go back over there tomorrow pray for me. Oh my God, what's karmic retribution is it to send my mom into a hoarder house, right? I know. I know it. You know, when I was working as a I was still on my teens, working as an exterminator, trying to sell the money to get into a college. I was sent to a house to spray for roaches, and I walked in and the house, the upstairs, had, I don't know how many, but thousands and thousands and thousands of newspapers. All stacked up throughout the upstairs of the house. I had to walk down an aisle, room to room, spraying for the bugs, and I looked around, and I didn't know what hoarding was. I mean, hoarding was not a thing until it got on bravo, as far as I'm concerned. But evidently, people have been suffering with the whole world. Yeah. I just thought it was the most bizarre thing and I walked out of there, and I told one of my coworkers, I said, you won't believe what I just saw. The entire upstairs of the house are an old newspapers. When the guy just shook his head, I don't know, and we left. But that's been going on for a long time. My mom is who you want for this job 'cause she's ruthlessly clean your house, but she's just like, she's got the shakes. So I'm surprised that I didn't come home with a couch tied to the top of the truck just to get it out of her house for. All right, coming up. "It's early evening on Sunday, march 18th, 1990. And in Augusta, Georgia, Mary Sturgis, who everyone calls miss Louise, is starting to get worried because her 15 year old fraternal twin daughters dinette and Jeanette millbrook still haven't arrived back to the family apartment that they share with 5 of their 6 other siblings and their mother. They recently moved into this new apartment because it gave them more space, but it meant that danette and Jeanette would have to take the bus to finish out tenth grade at their old high school. Well, listen, the family has to watch every penny, and that Sunday there wasn't enough money for the girls to have bus fare for school on Monday. So miss Louise suggested that the girls asked their godfather, this guy Ted, who agreed to give them some money if they just came by and got it. So the twins had left for his house that afternoon at around two 30 or three to track the four miles or so to their old neighborhood where he lives. So it's not a short walk by any means, but it's been hours at this point, and they should have been home by now. Miss Louise calls Ted, who tells her that, yeah, the girls made it. They were there. They were just fine. He'd given them 20 bucks for the bus, plus a few extra dollars for spending money, but he's like, that was a while ago, and they've already left. So miss Louise calls her oldest child AC and her. She lives near Ted, and it would make sense for danette and jeannette to maybe like, stop by and see her before they came home. AC ender tells her that the twins did stop by for a little bit. They had wanted her to walk them home, which was kind of an unusual request, but AC and her just had a baby a couple of weeks ago and she wasn't up for it. So the girls left on their own headed in the direction of a nearby gas station called the pump and shop. So miss Louise hangs up the phone and it's reassuring to be able to trace the girl's steps to some degree, but it's getting late and it doesn't stop her from getting worried. So she asks a friend to watch her younger kids and she and her 12 year old chante set out for the pump and shop. Their mom figures that the girls want to spend the extra money, maybe that Ted gave them, maybe they're still there. And if not, their paths should cross on the way. Chande told R reporter Nina that she remembers looking everywhere on the way to the gas station. There was still some light in the sky, but it was fading fast, and they made it all the way to the gas station without any sight of them. And when they make it there, they do get some information from Gloria, the cashier who knows the family. Like they were all regulars in the store before they moved. According to the falling podcast, Gloria tells them that the twins came in around four 30 p.m.. They seemed totally fine. They bought chips, candy, some drinks, and then they left. Gloria saw them in the parking lot once they were out of the store, but again, she's like busy ringing up another customer.

Ted's gone yet and he's left his cigarette burning for a long time. So it wasn't like he got dragged out probably. Yes so. I didn't get a sense of if ted has given himself up to protect bobbi because we don't have that showdown with in the low man and ted. It's just ted's gone. I hadn't thought about it. Maybe he decided to this. Version of ted is a lot more in tune with using his powers in a given moment in the book. Right like when he sends bobby to go rescue carol. It's like ted is instigating. That said you better go find it right now. Whereas book ted. He didn't know what was going on with. Carol until bobby showed up at a store yup so in the diner scene. Ted might have been doing the same thing. He's he's senses what's happening. He knows what's about to happen. Perhaps rather than putting up a fight and getting himself hurt or endangering. Bobby he decides the best course of action is to simply turn himself in which is largely what happens in the book..

"I just loved that part colosio question. Absolutely who is your favorite character. Other than ted. My favorite character. And i can never decide whether ted is you know. Do i include ted or not include type because i have complex feelings about ten this season. It's dr sharon for sure. I think she is. Maybe one of the best second season additions to an ensemble. Ever in terms of complicating how everybody else relates to each other. I also in terms of sheer comedy. It's a coach beard. Who talks so little. But every little thing he says and every little noise he makes. There's a part. I know that you like me. Enjoyed the ted giving a speech about rahm communism. People say something wrong does not the way i see it guy. Here's what i believe. In communism rahm communism that is and it's just this very you can't tell whether he's sort of bummed it's not regular communism or that he thinks. This is a weird lecture. But every time i watched that clip. It made me giggle so much. And it's the same thing when he sort of every time he makes some like odd noise or exclamation. It makes me laugh so much. He does a great deal with very little on the page true and his expression snow. It's really white something. What do you like so much about. dr sharon. Is it her as a character is it. Also her as a catalyst for what's happening now as the story goes on. Yeah it's both. I mean i. I am a fan of good representations of therapy and the the meaning of therapy. I am very fond of her as a catalyst to change the direction of of some of what was happening on the show. I think she has really you know. I have used the word complicate a lot in talking about this season. I think she has really. Her presence has really helped to complicate. Ted's sense of himself. If the first season was all about everybody learning that ted really could do this job and could inspire people and all that stuff she has really come in and it's become clearer and clearer that there are as you said earlier limitations to his sort of inspirational jabber and also. I think he's become sort of more performance active. And it's i think her presence and the fact that she is so low key has kind of emphasized that a lot of his kind of business that he's constantly doing feels forced in a way. That sort of makes you think there's something going on with this guy. That's not just you know. This has been the season where they've really been like. How did he get this way. Like how does a person get this way Which are not always gonna see with the character who starts out really broad. So i really love her. I love that. Sarah niles performance which is really she just resists the urge to get into any of the broader comedy. That practically everybody else on that show is eating up at least some of the time she just. Has this really steady really quiet. She's very kind but she's not no. She's a therapist. She's not there to be sillier performed for people she's a doctor and i love that character in that way i think also in the final episodes we're gonna see..

Armstrong is lonely seeing these. This family reunited. The adults are all on brainwashed. And start applauding. I don't think they know what's going on. But for some reason they know to applaud that something has happened Tina reveals that her real mission from baby core was to get ted tim back together and stopping. Dr armstrong from overthrowing the human grown up world was just a bonus. We go back to their home for christmas or big family. Ted gives him a big statue of tim holding a mug that says world's greatest dad letter that says a letter. That's like you're the best i love you. I'm sorry that i couldn't be there. But then then are tim get hit by snowball and it turns out. It's ted and he is here. It was a trick. And how could he. How could he have delivered those presents. Not being there have like a like a like a task laws yeah but also like razor knocks on the door. Well the guests often we get a knock on the door. And then i'll go there and there's nobody there magically delivered see someone exit the gate yes that's true so they play brothers and the snow and the whole family goes out and it seems like carol learns tina's secret she's carol is tim's wife fleet by your favorite longoria and they're all happy and that's when we get the final little coda what happens when they're all happy family at the so like what is tina. Say she's like attempt teams like well. That's the whole story in tina's like well there's one more thing it it goes to armstrong returning to his own house and his parents are so happy. Yes as i would be sammy if you ran away and then came back. I'd be so happy. Don't run away though. just. I'm happier with you just staying here okay. Kids all the kids listening the flop house. Mars also in the discord posted a link to a podcast episode. That jason sued acres. Brendan hunt did with brunei brown. Who is a social worker. Professor researcher thinker. Somebody who. I didn't know very well before that podcast. I've only really heard the name. I loved that podcast. I wanna thank mars bars posting. That was from october of two thousand twenty. So it's from before the show was where the show is now. The show had blown up obviously but maybe not to the extent and hurt their take the way they talk about the show in that podcast is unique in very specific to some of the things that that professor has researched and some of the things that went into the show. It seems very clear to me that her research influence the writing of the show. They say as in that podcast. So it's a fascinating podcast. And i wanna thank mars bars. "I i would love to just start off with your take on this on this story that i think dominated so much of the episode and certainly i think rightly the story that a lot of people are talking about coming out of week three. I was so thrilled. That we gotta sam story the way we got it. We've been talking about this even back to our analysis of season one and some of the things we wanted to see more of. And what a very first scenes when. Ted give sam one of the army men. Ted son has given him to protect him. And sam's birthday. Sam talks about how you know. The imperialism of the american army doesn't sit well with him and right away. You realize okay. When as ted is realizing like these guys are from all over like it's it's an interesting opportunity to tell a lot of cultural stories because football really. Is this cultural mix. You've got players from all over the world playing for teams in england and so these locker rooms are are really interesting places to be such that. What what you often find. Is you find like a player who grew up africa and maybe speaks french english. As a result of his time in africa along with any other languages he may speak from just being a native of whatever country and then maybe he goes away as a young player like at age sixteen or seventeen to germany and picks up german and speaks german for five or six years and you. Maybe you're talking about somebody who speaks french german fluently and has some broken english and then maybe moved to england and can communicate with their manager in german because their manager managed in germany or can communicate in french because their managers french but not english. Their english teammates. It's just fascinating the way that these locker rooms exists in football especially in europe and so the opportunity with the sam character being from nigeria and having a background where he was thoughtful and really immediately reflected that back to ted met. I think a lot of us were interested in seeing stories about sam. It was a character. I think they just barely scratched the surface of along with de niro host in season one and of course as we started season two. What are we have. We have a big daddy. Rojo story right away. "Obviously, the passing of Legend Henry Hank Air, and it's something I remember from watching games at Old County Stadium and The numbers are spectacular. It's an idea not an issue and you want the audience to adopt your idea as their own. That's language of ted. So if you are pitching me your business or telling me that you're an amazing author and that you're going to talk about what you wrote about. That's not about the audience. That's about you ted. Talks are about how you can serve the audience and an idea worth spreading that will ultimately get the audience to think differently. And if an application asks for a video submission. Don't send some random link to some talk some conference. You spoke at take the time to speak directly to the organizer and to say. Thank you for giving me this opportunity. I'm really looking forward to serving your audience at tech's x and then talk about your idea. I've gotten people who when i asked specifically for a two minute video introducing themselves. They a when they don't send me that and they send me a link to something else. It tells me two things. They're not reading directions and they're lazy so really think about this as an opportunity to connect with another human being and i know that it's it sounds daunting because there's a massive veil separating ted from everybody else and i am here to pull back the curtain as a former organizer we want you to reach out and as somebody who puts people on stages i wanna know what you care about and i wanna know that you can talk to me about something. That's not selling your business or your book and that you really have an idea that is meant to have global impact. And those are the things that i would really say. Also the other part of this equation is vet the organizers. Ted ex is an independently organized event. That ted gives licenses to now. They're they're very successful. They have exploded as you know in the last several years. So it's very difficult for every ted event to be attended by somebody who works for ted. So you want to vet the organizers because the last thing you wanna do is work for nine months on your big talk on your wardrobe on the time commitment that it takes to memorize and walk into an event. That looks terrible that has no lighting. That has no sound. That doesn't have a projector so that you can't use your slides because that video will be online for the rest of your life and the people who run events the organizers and the speakers they do not own those videos ted owns videos and organizers are required to upload them to ted and ted decides whether they distribute them on youtube or on ted dot com c zero.
