"For you to care about gun safety yeah but <hes> but man oh man when it goes it is i think the way you put it as exactly right. It's like a punch to to the gut. It's it's <hes> it's so personal and and you spent i spent so much time this past year and a half <hes> in in the community with the young people and the movement they started with the families <hes> as they more and and so many families who have turned their grief into action <unk> action than in their efforts to bring about change <hes> seeing what this does to a community is <hes> it's just so painful and <hes> and yet you can't help inspired by the by the actions taken by so many in the community afterward that i feel especially <hes> committed. I'm redoubled my efforts and this is this is now something i think about every day and and how can we what more can we be doing. And how do we elevate the argument. How do we go after the gun lobby. And how do we do all the things that stand in the way of our our <hes> passing inform right yeah the kids the parkland kids the march for our lives is the banner of their organization just introduced a new <hes> program on new plan. I think it's the peace plan or something like that. Are you working are. Are you working with them on that <hes> yeah. I have a meeting with them. That's frequent back in d._c. What the march relies students have been remarkable in everything. They've accomplished already. They they were the ones who led the way to help pass gun safety legislation in florida something that would have been unheard of before they travelled around the country and inspired veer appears everywhere in america to get involved and that involvement and all the cash coming out of the much for lives and and working with moms demand that all the other groups that helped give us a gun safety the majority in congress and so i know i there are a whole bunch of people that i served with before we thought that they could simply sit back and ignore this issue and ignore org the demands of their community. Take money from the guy bobby and keep getting reelected and i'm happy to tell you that that a lot of them are now former members of congress it may just an issue that really counted election absolutely and and obviously it's only i think finally people even even even republicans who are gun owners understand the need for some kind of sensible regulation and we've reached the breaking in point here and congressman deutsche did wanna thank you for your actions on this issue because i know you've really really stepped up and i appreciate it. I wanted to speaking of south florida. Obviously the g. seven just wrapped up and donald trump was asked and the press conference at the end of it about next year's gathering which will be here in the u._s. Asked trump went on and on with what amounted to basically a big free commercial for his doral golf. "I guess i should start off by apologizing for being one of your your pita constituents pain in the ass. That's not the different qualifies for good. Okay 'cause i'm sorry but not sorry because i think it's my my responsibility as an informed constituent to lobby my congressman on issues that are important to me and so saying that i've i've obviously called your office and posted on twitter and i've emailed you even texted you on occasion happen to have your cell phone number from the days when you're in the state state assembly and i hope i don't take advantage of it too often but but occasionally i need to make a point and most recently i know oh i was on your case a lot about the impeachment issue which you finally came around to in fact you wrote an op ed in the sun sentinel the south south florida newspaper <hes> that basically made you the the the the house democrat to put the number over half now saying they're in favor of impeachment inquiry. Do i have that right. <hes> yes that is it's definitely the way it was reported but <hes> we're. We're more than half at this point for sure but nancy pelosi is still not there what what what what's holding her back <hes> well. I actually think <hes> but i think and i i know that the speakers goal here is to make i want to understand what those who have read the ball report and watch the here with mahler <hes> now now how clearly understand which is the administration that the president trump on multiple occasions <hes> certainly certainly the five that we focused on the hearing but even more than that but in these five instances clearly <hes> took action that if he were not the president of the united states would have resulted in some charges being brought for obstruction of justice this back that that he is the president. Is i mean that we need to look to the miller report. The report says congress needs to hold the president accountable and <hes> that's what we're trying to do. I believe that we don't need and i think when people talk about the the speakers do. I don't believe that we need to have a big debate on the house floor about whether or not logic featuring great because the judiciary committee already has the power before <hes> with articles of impeachment. If that's the next step we've already been conducting these hearings and we're now in court trying to get our hands on the cranberry testimony try to get mcgann to come testify justify <hes> and when the court sides with us as i confident that they will we'll wind up knowing full speed ahead with this investigation attention and i think the speaker at that point will be even more encouraging her job getting information out there so we can proceed to hold the president accountable well. I hope so so now i notice a congress was supposed to return from the august break on september ninth. I know that the judiciary committee has a hearing set for the fourth. That's next wednesday. So is it just your committee. That's coming back early and it's not really i mean it's five days early. I wonder why you guys didn't come back in fact after the latest round of shootings <hes> to do something about it. I know nancy. Pelosi was very vocal saying that the senate it should come back to deal with a gun issues but the house already passed a background check bill and so. She said that the house has already done. Its job now. The the senate needs to come back and do its part <hes>. I think the house is done yet with with gun legislation. No no no i <hes> some. I don't know that i'm not sure that speakers have exactly like that but i know there were some people who did say that the house did what we're supposed to you and now it's up to the senate and and it's true the universal background checks is a really important step forward with absolutely help save lives and the house passed it and the and it's mcconnell's desk but we're by no means finished. That's why we're going back. Judiciary committee is going back we we we were going to take up and <hes> at send a full house four for a vote..

"Would i get into the primary but what you're saying is probably right. Generally accurate probably supported hillary clinton over barack obama thinking she was more electable. You probably probably supported hillary clinton over bernie sanders thinking she was more electable. The fact is that you're still telling us who's more electable and now i'm guessing guessing guessing my opinion and the opinion of twenty five other current and former almost all of us current elected official right because commissioner per kick you elect donald trump is energizing debate and we really try and in pick off those other voters and we do by by by coming up with a nominee who excites people. I'm guessing again. I just from what i know of of you. I'm guessing you're a joe. Biden supporter are you. I actually we <hes>. I have not endorsed anybody. I can tell you that in the group group. Although we have not endorsed anybody were just saying we want someone that we think can appeal to swing voters. I would say the top candidates. Dates would probably be a biden mayor. He and camera would probably be the top three and see therein lies the problem problem. I'm all in favor of letting the electorate decide. I think the party should stay out there as well. We are not the party we are twenty empty. Six current elected officials who have the same constitutional right to share our opinion and let people know our opinion that you do. We are not not saying you must do what we say. We're not putting anybody in the ballot. We're not taking anybody off. We are twenty six separate and discrete elected officials officials who are offering our opinion no different than you're offering your opinion okay. I'm not telling you that you're wrong okay. I'm telling you that you are wrong. Under martin mark my words this is my prediction and then we can end it. I believe if the democrats once again force and establishment creature down north throats we didn't name same way you forced hillary clinton last time because the democratic party couldn't keep its hand off the scale and a a skewed thing how her putting our finger on the scale we are a voluntary group. That has no power. We have nothing offering laura in my opinion and telling you. I'm very very glad about that because i'm telling you you're wrong the the same people who didn't understand. I think all right thank you. Thank you see you are. Do your your research team. I respect your opinions. I think overall <hes> well thought out they are different than mine avi. I'm not saying you're wrong. I hope you're not saying i'm wrong. I am you have one theory. I have different. We'll just agree. They need to get rid of this mad man. Who's our president. Both of us agree that we will support the democratic nominee it his age difference of opinion as to which tactic is better to do that. I'm not saying you're wrong. Please don't tell me i'm i'm wrong. Bombs or different opinions both entitled jordan that we are but i see these articles in the newspaper all these elected official so you just want to make it clear that you stating your opinion you might be a commissioner and the county in which reside but you have no right to come out and say we need to vote for a centrist a sent. "Well. Let's see i was let go. Oh fired from w._i._n._z. South florida's last progressive talk station in two thousand eight. It was right. It was the friday before the democratic convention was was to open and i had just finished up my morning show and was telling the listeners now we were going to cover the convention beginning monday and i got called into the boss's office and fired because clear channel now known as i hurt media <hes> was was preparing to flip the station from progressive talk to to be. I believe the fourth sports talk station in south florida. Denying uh of a week definitely need more of those. Yes we do right now. We you need more progressive talk stations. There hasn't been a radio a political or on news talk station that aims at democrats in this town since two thousand donate so we're at eleven years now so back back then you know you were in the state senate. The florida state senate. We would talk from time to time didn't necessarily always agree on everything and and i'm afraid we're at one of those points well. Let's let let's put put the past behind us because we're in a new situation here. It's two thousand nine hundred nineteen a madman in the white house. The world is going nuts we need to do we need to change things in a big way and i saw an article in the south florida sun sentinel last week the headline said something something to the effect of anybody but warriner sanders and i i would say i didn't write the headline the headline here that no bernie sanders elizabeth warren we need a moderate south florida democrat and tell their party and that's that's the headline of the story that that opens ends with a group of prominent current and former elected officials in broward county is warning the democratic party that defeating president donald trump requires nominating a candidate who can appeal to a broad swath of the electorate not one of the progressives running far to the left now. We're those words or was that anthony man of the sun-sentinel who's never been friend to my side of the aisle well. That's tony's characterization of it. But why don't i tell you what we are what we're doing and you may draw whatever conclusions you wish okay first of all real solutions is a twenty six current and former elected officials twenty two of us our current for former <hes> and i think that we can agree you and i can agree on the issue and let me read you one paragraph for more statement of principles <hes> <hes> we believe that current president is an existential threat to our our country and that we must do everything we can to prevent his reelection. Yes we object to his constant. Lying is divisiveness his this cozy relations with russia and other totalitarian countries well fighting with our historic allies. <hes> we believe that democrats running for the president should focus their criticism on the current administration and not president obama. We added that after one of the debate now. Let me read you another paragraph from there which is we are all and the this is the only line that is underlined in the entire statement of principle we we are all current or former west democrats in broward county florida the largest democratic march and county in the swing state and and this is where the underlining starts we'll support the nominee of the democratic already as you should so as you say all right well i've spoken with some of the groups that might be more philosophically in quiet with you that didn't vote for hillary after the last hold on just just by by means of facts more bernie sanders supporters voted for hillary clinton in two thousand sixteen then hillary clinton supporters voted for barack obama in two thousand eight. That's a fact that's a fact. I rang of democratic party. I i've done my research..

"So I, I said that on the air and I tweeted something the other day and I get a direct message on my Twitter from Ted Deutch. My congressman who forwarded me. A Washington Post article that had a quote from him. That was wishy washy that said. Yeah, he supports, you know, investigations, but not necessarily impeachment. Then I emailed, his, you know, his communications director and went back and forth asking for an interview he's not available today. How about tomorrow? He's not available tomorrow. How about Friday, sorry? He's not available at all this week. How about next week? Oh, he's on a congressional delegation next week. Like nicole. It sounds like you're trying to get to use mileage to get a plane ticket. Yes, it does. I'm trying to get a commitment from my congressman to stay that he wants to do the right thing and open an impeachment inquiry into this crooked president, and he won't commit. And then they emailed me a segment where he was on CNN with Erin. Burnett extensively saying the same thing. Yeah. I think we need to investigate. But I don't think we should Holland impeachment yet. He won't commit to anything. Loin. That's what this, this will this will pacify your, your constituent that. Trying to pacify us know give give us you know, something to suck on. So we go to sleep. Yeah. Unbelievable. So what do you think about Pelosi? If you watch the end of the press conference, I thought the questions for Pelosi were quite interesting, especially the one where she explained why we're not on, on a path to impeachment because Donald Trump wants us to own h him, and this would be playing right. Into his hand, really. Putting an impeachment hearing on live television where the nation is transfixed. And there are no, there's nobody who's testifying off the record. There's nobody testifying without being under oath. There's no redacted statements. There's nothing that everything is out in the open. How could that possibly be detrimental to our country to, to learn in live, and in color, what this president has been up to? He does not. She. Lost it. She doesn't have it anymore. She should retire and go and sit in a rocking chair and play with her grandchildren. It's finished for her. Yeah. She is breaking down the whole country. She's refusing to do her duty as you in, in the story that I have at one o'clock, not only do I have that whole press conference inbound guys story train. Anyone who hasn't it will be able to see it on my on my blog? But I have standing Hoyer admitting absolutely admitting that the decision to not go forward with impeachment was partisan political decision that they made she's trying to deny it. And he you know, he's another one, who's, who's overly sent oil, and he's, he admits inadvertently inadvertently, but he says it in plain English that, yes, it was a partisan political decision. Let's not kid ourselves. And that's all it is they're, they're making calculations is going to hurt us is going to help us how where's it gonna hurt? Where's it gonna help which which of our members are going? Be defeated because we do this, and there will be some, I think there'll be three that who are gonna lose. Anyway. There were three real bad terrible blue dogs in, in red red districts who inadvertently got elected last time and then Walking Dead. Anyway, they're not gonna win again. Okay. Here we have Pelosi and Moyer willing to make policy for America based on these three idiots who are the three in or is it Dan Lipinski he cannot win. Oh, no, no. So anyway, please stay safe out there. That's for sure. Hey, there is I so frequently ever give you a story that I'm like, yeah. I can get behind that one. That comes out of Washington this one democratic Representative Todd or not Ted sorry. Ted Deutch of west Boca and Republican Vern Buchanan of Sarasota, my hat is off to you gentlemen. This morning. The two of them have come up with a bipartisan Bill introduced to make animal cruelty a federal felony. It's beyond me that it's twenty nineteen. And this is the first time that legislation like this has been introduced, but I digress. The torture of innocent Aminul animals is abhorrent. And should be punished to the fullest extent of the law Buchanan said on Twitter. And he said the Bill would make those convicted of and I'm sorry to have to see this. But crushing burning drowning suffocating and impaling animals punishable by up to seven years in prison. Now, here's the deal. If passed this Bill would close a loophole in twenty ten law that currently only punishes abuse seen in videos again twenty nineteen and this is just now happening. Are you kidding? But anyway, the good news is it's happening. So re representatives Ted Deutch and Vern Buchanan hats off to you guys for doing something. "Appreciate a joining US House democratic congressman Ted Deutch of Florida. He's a member of the judiciary and foreign affairs committees. Congressman thanks for joining us happy thanksgiving, happy holidays. I know we want to get into thank you. And we want to get into the situation with former FBI director Comey in a moment. But I want to ask you about these subpoenas from Republicans on your committee in just a moment. But let's begin with the news on Roger stone, associate drum Coursey who says he's entered into these negotiations with the special counsel. Do you believe Coursey could be, you know, people might think well? This is kind of a small fish in all of this. Do you think he could be key to this collusion investigation? This could be a really dramatic turn in this case in this investigation. There's so much information surrounding the molar investigation that sometimes it gets hard to keep it all straight. This. This news about Coursey provides the opportunity potentially. And we don't know what Muller's investigate what he has. But it provides the opportunity to see a line from Russia who stole the emails to WikiLeaks who distributed the emails Wiki leaks to Coursey and stone and stone to the president. We don't know. This is why the Muller investigation is so important, and this is why instead of holding hearings about Hillary Clinton's emails, we ought to be holding a markup on legislation to protect the Muller investigation. But this is potentially the most significant piece of information in this investigation because of the way that it could connect all of these dots in Roger stone says Jerome Corsi is being pressured to say things he doesn't believe what does. That tell you about the legal jeopardy. Roger stone might be facing. It's it is odd somewhat to hear Roger stone commenting on drum Coursey in and this looming. You know legal fixing he might be in. Sure, I don't I don't think there's any any one who's at all surprised by Roger stone's reaction to this. The the decision that he made to go out in front and start vehemently denying based on this information. That's now become public. It's just not surprising at all. And it's I think further proof that there is real concern about the ability for Robert baller to draw that line from the Russians to WikiLeaks to Coursey and stone to the president. That's that's I think what's so concerning Roger stone. And it certainly further evidence of why the president has tried so desperately over the past year, and especially since firing Jeff Sessions to try to shut down the Muller investigation altogether. We ought to be protecting it. We ought to on behalf of the American people make sure that he completes his work. So that we get to the bottom of exactly what happened. And moving onto Jim comb, you sit on the House Judiciary committee Republicans on your committee as you now know have subpoenaed, the former FBI director and the former attorney general Loretta Lynch to testify behind closed doors. Some Democrats are calling this a political stunt. How do you see it? Yeah. Well, it's a it's a political stunt, and it's a bad one that the leadership of the House Judiciary committee. Clearly, they clearly weren't paying attention to what happened on election day. They didn't get the memo. They didn't they failed to understand even after the sweeping.

"The kind of thing that we ought to do in Washington. I've introduced a Bill that would do it. I've got a conservative Republican cosponsor, and the speakers simply refuses to to bring it to a vote because the gun companies will stand in the way of anything that they believe might reduce the the sale of guns in our country and and that's got to change it. I think it's going to, I hope so I hope so. When the new congress comes in, hopefully the numbers will be on our side. Speaking of that, if the Democrats take over the house are, are you poised to chair the house ethics committee. There's a good chance of that. Yes, that would be very. Oh. And my my Devon newness being your sites. If that's the case, well, there was I can't. I can't talk about what maybe I can't. There wasn't investigation of of him earlier in the congress, and there's a lot of our agenda. I can't say though I'm actually really proud of the work of the committee in this congress being the senior democrat on the ethics committee during the metoo movement, it is because of the bravery of so many women across the country, including in in Washington nation's capital that that that there were members of congress, who resigned in the middle of their term or not declined to seek reelection because of the efforts of our committee to make sure that people are held accountable and and we pass tough legislation that the Senate unfortunately has not allowed us to to move forward on yet. But there's, there's a lot more still. Due to to bring some accountability to to congress. That's an understatement. Congressman. Congressman Ted Deutch is with us. He is my congressman by the way you can find his website at Ted for congress dot com. That's the reelection website, which is the important one for for the next month or so, you can find.

"And when you when you by mail, you can do that because you have the opportunity to pull it up on your on your phone for all the people who vote on election day, they've not. In most cases, they've not thought about the amendments they show up to vote and and there are so many, it's confusing and often people will just skip them altogether, which is awesome for it because I read through them yesterday when the ballots showed up and I'm thinking, I don't know any of these. I'm gonna have a lot of work to do before. It's time to turn it in. And that's one of the reasons that we do the absentee voting so that we have time to research all the questions and and in the case of judicial contests, do a little research on the judge. Judges. I don't know why we vote for judges anyway, but there you have it. So that's already happening. We're voting in Florida. You are my congressman Ted Deutch and you have my vote, although. There are couple of things I agree with you on, and I know I wanted to pick your brain. Okay. Well, right now. Here's the thing. I'm a lung cancer survivor. I think you know that because I called you on my way back from the hospital a couple of years ago when I was having a meltdown over the fact, I couldn't get the pain pills because of the stupid rules about how pharmacies of distribute controlled substances in Florida. But that's another story. What I'm worried about now is that I've got a pretty daunting pre existing condition. Actually, I've got a few of them, and the only reason I have insurance now is because I was able to purchase it through the exchange and the Affordable Care Act. I know it's still technically alive, open enrollments going to begin next month for another abbreviated period, but the premiums will be even higher and the offerings will be fewer due to the moves made by Republicans in Donald Trump is still doing everything he can to get rid of the Affordable Care Act. What's left of it? What do you think what I know of a great solution to it, and that's Medicare for all. But you haven't signed onto the Medicare for all caucus yet. Congressman. Have you. I don't know. I don't. I don't know about the caucus co-sponsor of the Bill. You are because the last time I looked, I see your name on there. Oh, you're ready to, you know. Give you a hard time about it. So you're in favor of for all, look to the goal isn't. The goal isn't just lowering the cost for healthcare. The the goal that we have to have is making sure that everyone in our country has to care. Exactly. And and and I think the Medicare for all debate, I actually think that people are are are missing the point that people who are so who like to, to point to it and and be so critical of it. I think tend to miss the point which is look the if we're not talking about that. If we're not talking about ways to to make sure that everybody has access to healthcare then then we're acknowledging that it's okay for millions of people to have to see their only access to healthcare coming the emergency. So that's book that yes, it's true. We have to fight to keep the Affordable Care Act. The preexisting conditions, I mean, the the coal, there's the the legislation that my Republican colleagues put forth where they claim that they keep pre existing condition coverage. Well, yeah, the the Bill says that if you have pre existing conditions, you can get insurance. It just won't cover your pre existing condition. It It was was what what it it was. was. Yeah, you know, she's gonna say. So if you have diabetes and you break your arm, you'll have insurance, but it won't pay for your diabetes coverage if you need..

"So it went, it went like that didn't go too well. No. And, oh, by the way, one of my favorite, I he's not doing well. Bob Menendez is having a little trouble in his reelection bid in New Jersey, but I really liked his answer when he was asked about the FBI report. So a reporter got him as he was leaving the room where he was able to spend an hour. Reading the FBI report four. If Beth under investigation is a bullshit investigate bullshit investigation to use that, that that is not a full and thorough investigation. Evidently, the Republicans who gave the direction to be, I of what could be investigated was extremely limited. You don't hear a lot about lack of cooperation way. You don't get cooperation if you don't talk to corroborating witnesses at the end of the day, and that obviously didn't happen here. And so I'm amazed. I'm amazed at for the highest court in the land. This is the type of report the FBI producers. Yeah, it's bullshit. Oh, great. And apparently Murkowski is now getting threats. What kind of country do we live in? I was worried no matter how this. You know shakes out in the end. Well, now we know it's going to could cavenaugh is going to be. Confirm to the supreme court. I'm just beside myself to all the young people. I'm sorry, we let you down my generation fucked up big time, and I hate to say it, but Obama fucked up big time. You know, after eight years in the White House democrat in the White House, we lost more congressional seats more governorships more state and local houses around the country than ever before. Obama was good for Obama, but he wasn't good for the Democrats that followed him. I saw somewhere that better were Rourke was asked if he wanted Obama's endorsement. And he said, no, not really. Not really. What else do I have? I really don't know where Ted twitches and I'm getting a little perturbed because it's live radio, and they're supposed to be calling in. Oh, so in the meantime, what else can I? What else can I play for you. I know you guys are going to hate if I do this. I was thinking about how I can play audio of Donald Trump. Without. Without making your ears bleed. I'll I'll make them short clips, but you know, he did another rally another one of his campaign rallies last night in Minnesota. He might be watching Susan Collins. That's possible. So last night in Minnesota, this, this is what gets me Donald Trump who has at least twenty outstanding. Charges by women of sexual assault or Beauce or harassment against him. And the Republican party who has countless numbers of sexual harassment charges against them and none of them. None of them leave office on the left. Of course, we had Al Franken who I think was run out of Washington on rail. Some of his own colleagues threw him under the bus. I don't think he should have given in that fast. I think he was. I think it was all a setup, but. Trump made fun of him last night. So Carne is running against a far left democrat tina's with who nobody knows who to help people know who team Smith. Hughes appointed. She took a wacky guys place that guy was. They was wacky. What did he fold up like a wet rag. Oh, man. He was gone. In near they are, oh shit, they were there. It was gone so fast. I don't want to mention Al Franken's name. Okay. He was gone. He was gone so fast. It was like, oh, he did something. Oh, all right. I see. I see it. The line is there. Hello? It's Nicole. Sandler. "You're making more work for me just when I don't need it. Oh, well, here's, here's a news story for you. The twenty eighteen Nobel peace prize was awarded this morning and thankfully it had nothing to do with Donald Trump, Dennis Makiko and Nadia Maura a Congolese doctor. And he ZD activist activists one for their work to eliminate sexual violence as a weapon of war isn't that? Just that's just that's just cosmic righteousness. People who are working against sexual violence win the. The Nobel peace prize as we're looking at at putting somebody who there are many outstanding allegations against him. Four sexual abuse. This man were we're putting on the supreme court. And no, there was not a full investigation. This last opening of the the FBI investigation was bullshit. It was a sham. It was. They reached out to ten people in the interviewed nine. They were given dozens and dozens of names of of corroborating witnesses at the FBI did not bother to call. They did not bother to check in with them. And so. This, this is where we are. You know. I I've said over and over again that the United States is not safe for tourists to come to because you know you're taking your life in your hands. When you walk down any street USA cause you just might get shot with a stray bullet. It could be a cop in Chicago, although the Van Dyke is going to go to jail. Thankfully it could be. Bored teenagers in Oklahoma who shoot a German. I think he was giorno Australian tennis player who was an Oklahoma going to college. It could be somebody who walks into a school and shoots up the place. Well, we're going to talk with Ted Deutch in a few minutes. Let me tell you a little bit about my congressman. As I said, I'm not thrilled with everything he does. I'm not thrilled with some of his positions and you'll hear I'm going to ask him about them, but I'll tell you when I was really proud of Ted Deutch was the days after February fourteenth, two thousand eighteen February fourteenth was the day that a troubled kid went back to the school that he no longer tended Marjory stoneman Douglas high school about ten minutes down the road from me and shot up the place, killing seventeen of his fellow classmates and educators at that school. Ted Deutch stood up and took a stand and I gotta tell you I was. I was really impressed with his his statements, his actions, his his demeanor in the days following the shootings. He, he said and did all the right things. But here we are still without any new legislation. Certainly on the federal level, the Australian was baseball player. That's what I said speed bird. He was a, he was baseball player. Nodded tennis player of thank you. I hate when I get things wrong, but occasionally I do so much stuff spinning around in their gets mixed up every now and then so anyway. Now I'm just we're waiting for Ted Deutch to call in. And. This is why prefer to call the guests. So I know him not just waiting for them, but. Let's see what else we can do your and I'm going to close this screen out with Susan Collins is still talking in case you are wondering on believable. So while we're waiting for. Susan Collins. Let me play this clip for you. Retired supreme court. Justice. John. Paul Stevens who by the way was is a lifelong Republican was appointed by a Republican president who turned out to be one of the more liberal members of justices on the supreme court. He he came out yesterday right up here in Boca Raton. He was speaking at a meeting and. He said. Brett Kavanagh actually changed his mind. I thought he had definitely the qualifications for to sit on the supreme court and should be confirmed if he was ever selected. But I've, I've changed my views for for reasons. They have no really, no relationship to his intellectual ability or is registered as a federal judge. But I think that his performance during the hearings caused me to change my mind. I think there's several commentators Larry tribe among the Moos gas chance to swap professor at Harvard, have written pieces in which they suggest that he has demonstrated a potential bias involving enough potential litigants you boo, or the court that he would not be able to perform who'll responsibilities..

"Is now a member of the foreign affairs judiciary committee's democratic congressman, Ted Deutch of Florida. Congressman. What happened with that vote yesterday. And why did Republicans vote against a Bill to fund election security? And we'll report Republicans say, well, we have our own version of that Bill that will protect election security just as much as Democrats. Well, thanks first of all, no, they're not going to say they have their Bill, but there's no good answer for the fact that every Republican in the house of representatives voted yesterday against additional funding, four election security in a vote that took place at the end of a week when the president started the week by showing that he was with Putin instead of with America and a week after just a week after the indictment came down, that showed the extent of this hacking and what the Russian. We're trying to do what the response pathetic response. I must say to this language that would've added funding to go to our states to help prevent attacks from the Russians. The response from a lot of my Republican colleagues was we shouldn't be doing that. If you wanna protect our elections, we ought to pass more voter, ID laws. It's tone deaf. It's unpatriotic. It is inexplicable and I heard you a little earlier, Joe. You're right, good luck going home and trying to explain to your constituents why the week that we saw the president on stage with Putin the week. We discussed their efforts to attack our democracy and the way they did attack our democracy. We want nothing to do with preventing it from happening. Again, we've been, we've been talking a lot this morning about what the Democrats message could and should be this coming fall in twenty twenty. Yet we see her polling. A lot of Republicans now seem to favor dealing with Putin. They approve of the president's performance this week. Why do you think this is so important? But why do you think is this an issue guys can actually run on? Well, it's. Sure. We're not going to run on election security and funding for it, but but in the the big picture, look, what's the message people want to be there proud Americans wanna be proud of their government. They're not proud of this government and that's not true. Just for Republican for Democrats Republicans to it's true because of the way the president talks about women, the numbers, that discussion about millennial women who surprised that Baleno women don't like president given the way he talks about women. It's true as they look at at the president standing on stage, people want to be proud and know that the president is standing up for our national security not standing onstage looking like someone who's upon for Vladimir Putin. Sure. Of course, I felt I actually emotionally felt something that USA it was what I was talking about before, what the message needs to be. It's a vote for democracy. It's vote for freedom, and I wanna bring we've back to what Patrick said. I couldn't agree with him more. It's about the women. And if you do an air that says to a young millennial woman, this is what your grandmother fought for fight for your own granddaughter and what we stand for, and it's up to you to protect us know. So it's not about voting, but it's that emotion that happened in congress. Yes, that if you can Jeanette up in the base and you don't trash Trump and you don't talk about how he treats. It's just about who we are, the vote of a lifetime. That's what I saw happening with the congress. I know people are cynical about politics and I understand that a lot of people will watch that and think it's just for show, but there is this sense of patriotism. You saw some of my Republican colleagues realized what was going on and jump to their feet. It's impossible not to want to stand up right now at this moment, lar- democracy..
