"Play gets called i wonder if each guy on the roster oh fascinating you give that play andy dalton and not to just fields or. I can't believe you let jimmy do that not trailer. You're not trying to see trae lands do that. The amount of petty bouche that could potentially come from this is insane. I think that could be a real thing with the saints and the niners at the bears besides that one play. That's not a thing. 'cause nagy has no fucking clue blank call. Okay would lead us back to apple orlovsky last night. He said this issue or and in danilov lobski let that one fly after a second. Preseason all right. So i mean. He rightfully so was attacked by people on twitter. But dan kim on this show and said if your offense coordinator isn't utilizing every single foot. That is on the field they are. They're hurting your team. As opposed to helping so. I think dan is talking about the styles of offense that are available right now with the way rules are in players are if you're not utilizing that offense you're kind of you're kind of setting the game back or whatever it's impossible to judge in preseason but i know where dan was coming from the internet did not the internet did not care about where it's coming from after week. Two of the preseason aj. I mean it's definitely both statement for coming from dan. But i would like to hear dan's explanation because we know dan doesn't just throw stuff out there like dan. Never i feel like isn't a guy that just all of a sudden shoots from the hip and in this. Let's a fly. He's he would back that up by film or scheme everything which i mean. You probably will not dive into the film as much as dan might instead and study the scheme. That pebble is running but it does look weird. I don't know if you play trevor. The words third week. I don't know what you should do but man you gotta find a way to win week. One quite some people down okay. So the last quarterback taken number one overall to win opening week was they gave. That was a long time ago. Wasn't luck no. It was a long time ago. Two thousand and two maybe five or russell. no. I gave this that last night. I was trying to remember all basis. You what you're saying number one overall pick. Yeah okay yeah. it's not easy. I get talking my number. One overall. Pick david carr was what year it was david car. I can't taxes two thousand and two so does today. you fucking crusted. Do just fucking say let it fly dude good. Why'd i even question. Why even questioning refilling. David car cars thinking the year because i since two thousand and two that whenever i saw the dam. It's been a long time since the number one overall pick one and it's because you're going to such a bad team you're going to a bad place. Normally for number one overall so the expectations on jacksonville are always low. i think that's meditations on trevor lawrence. Because he's in jets and bill are rather low but the expectations on urban. Meyer are is just going to stick around until their good. That's all the expectation is now and he wins to right because the factories now point call plays because that tweet could've easily said they need to start thinking about new head coach. Preserve meyer can call goddamn offense but instead it's it's all on bevill and he kinda delegate to everyone else instead of taking the brute force on his own show when head coach. That isn't call in place. You can blame somebody else. You know what i mean. He's head coaches can fire coordinators at the end of the year. If something goes back. I'm gonna talk to him on fire midseason. It can do whatever they want whenever you are not the person in charge of whatever. But there's a lot of coaches that get the head coaching job because of how good they are at calling plays or defense out of the ball so they feel as if well if i don't do it is they're going to be somebody better than me. But then the amount of work it takes to be the head coach glad-handing shit handshaking handling all the bullshit while also handling defensive or offensive strategy through the week is a lot of work and there's a couple of different ways to look at it. You can either say if their team succeeds. It'll be because of me or if this team fails i'll be able to find motherfucker. That failed and i'll be able to keep my job so that's just there's always do. Aj understood different ways. Do i ask coach all the time when they go from coordinator to head coach. Are you gonna continue to call. Plays guys on the college level. They all they all at first like. Yeah i'm definitely calling plays and they do it for a year or two. Sometimes some guys stick with it and love it and can handle it on some guys. Say now i need to be patrolling the sidelines and talking to defense and offense not focusing just on one group. It'd be alright if my life didn't just completely suck around massive amount to much more work than it is for a guy that calls plays compared to head. Coach doesn't call so like fifty hours a week extra. Probably if you're calling plates and if you're not doing that you're fucking team that you were the head. Coach of a little exaggerated probably but legit. There is probably a lot extra..

"I assumed like he's going to have to build this thing and by the way building. It isn't just like being a better recruiter or a better coach. It's like okay. We've got to be able to manage the salary cap better than everybody. We gotta make people believe that this is the right place to spend their prime years of their career as opposed to potentially going somewhere else. We hope the trevor lawrence is guy which by the way i think he does have all the traits to be guy listening to him. Do interviews is awesome to we'll find out has a killer instinct. Which i think you have to have any nfl to win. I think you have to be a killer When it comes to football not real life in the nfl. But i think it's going to be a. I mean i guess you could be killing life and be good football too. It has it has has. It's happened to. But i'm just saying we. I'm talking about killer on the field when your quarterback. I think you have to do that. That's gonna i think it's going to be a long road. I might be completely wrong. But it feels like there's going to be a long long road. It's jacksonville and that's not gonna be able to turn around easy but is urban going be able to stick with it. That is all anybody. He's obviously gonna like set the expectations and like the culture and stuff like that. But you think it's detrimental with them getting trevor lawrence like. He's not calling plays or anything. So how rooted in in lawrence's development is he like it's different where trae lance goes and the head. Coach is calling all the plays like. He's very hands on with the development of his quarterback. Like do you think that's detrimental at all. Obviously lawrence has all the skills to be a franchise guy but when your head coach isn't the one who's necessarily developing him day to day like does that matter as much. I'm not sure. I don't know in what you just mentioned. There leads us into a great conversation. That i'm very excited have but is like if trevor lawrence's good does that mean the jaguars good you know. Like last year joey. Borough was good banks stock joe but a but trevor lawrence needs to be good if the jaguars have a chance to be good average make jackson jaguars because of course and i think trevor lawrence is going to be good but like i don't know urban meyer's main thing is like hey i need trevor to be. Obviously you need a quarterback to be fucking good but it seems like there are some interesting gonna keep them healthy. He's want to develop the guy bro. Preseason game in a preseason game. I mean he was taking shots. His hand was hitting stuff like there was a. I mean there was a lot of things rousing. Oh my god like they might not have made the decision on. Who's the star yet. But there's a chance it might be. Because what's going to happen with trevor but trevor seems to be tough. Trevor seems to be handling it. Well which is what joey did. I just hope they have success. And i hope honestly i hope i hope or i get to watch urban meyer. Do his thing. And i assume. That's what myers thinking as. Well if i can turn around and fell franchise that's something that'll make may be much better than sabin in the entire thing the entire world and everything like that. Let's pivoted the other team. And to the point that schmidt alluded to jameis winston and tastes them. Hillary and a quarterback competition. James started last night. Bald the fuck out. Yeah okay dropping. Balls in buckets the internet and his haters and detractors say through and double coverage through a perfect ball to a guy that i didn't know existed where a number one who had a massive night and calloway and whenever michael thomas gets back how you doing. Keep it moving. They might have a real weapon. Set out there tastes. Milk comes in immediately after james throws two touchdowns not a great spot for taste middle to come in and he did not look great either. So that's a competition in sean. Payton only the head coach. But he's also calling plays. If you think about san francisco you got trae. Lance jimmy g. both a quarterback competition. Obviously the head coach is making. The decision is also calling plays. Then you go to chicago. The head coach it'll be making. The decision is also calling plays between andy dalton and justin fields right now in preseason. The reason why bring this up is justin fields. I think in his first week had a naked boot throwback across the field first preseason game that play guaranteed touchdown guarantee touchdown. First preseason game misdirection throwback is going to be a touchdown nagy called that for fields trae lance one of those as well did jimmy adult and get one. What were the plays that sean was calling for james as opposed to tell you some or tastes them instead of janus the amount of potential control that these three half is not just like. He's our quarterback this is a starter they're also the ones calling the plays for these particular place. Eight is a lot of pressure. I'd assume on these three to get it right. They probably all have their ideas on who they want how they want it but i don't one of their play calls you think in each one of these preseason games album. Yes aj well. I would assume whatever quarterback and you're gonna run whatever place you feel suit. Their talent like the set that they have their skill set and what they do best move justin fields around more than you're going to move round the red. Rocket andy dalton. But are you saying going back to jacksonville just for a second. Daraben was their offense coordinator. That's like i feel like people are saying. They need to fire him. Like what does that. Dana or slavsky didn't say that before we get to that okay. Can we get back to this. And i'm very fascinated by this. Do you think okay. That any of these quarterbacks maybe the vets get run out of town wherever come and say fascinating play calls. That old fields was getting at i was using. There's any of that that could potentially i mean that's what happens when you have a battle at the quarterback position. The locker room coaches literally. Everybody's like my entire livelihood is dependent upon how you do. You need to know that okay. I'm carol young. you are how old you are. How immobile you are. How how mobile you are you. My life depends on your success so when each play gets called i wonder if each guy on the roster oh fascinating you give that play andy dalton and not to just fields or. I can't believe you let jimmy do that not.

"And everything like 'cause kobe's let's getting back in what if cole not vaccinated right takes a test and it's a false negative test. And then he goes back in and then they could go both ways false positive get somebody else. Negative get somebody back in and then what happens and and how come coal. if he's not vaccinate didn't get it if he was with the trainer and they're working because proximity. Do we know anything about this thing. At point. we're how far into this. We got nothing. We still have no idea. Absolutely no idea. They're just hoping you know. Hey if a guy does test positive for kovin let's test him again and just hope that maybe it's negative and that's really it seems like all they're going off the nfl say you were going to get vaccinated. Yeah i don't care how many examples we gotta make wait. Wait for the first couple of weeks if somebody has to missile games all the nfl is gonna come. Oh there must have been a misunderstanding on that asterix. Yeah we said it was a seventy million dollar fine. That's where the owner for you. It's actually your entire season trae here. Sorry if you saw at the nfl pa agreed to it. There will be something like that. It feels and not obviously. That's a a dramatic example right. But it'll be something. Do you think cam coal all these guys that are alleged not coz definitely not but cam allegedly is he. He's asked to take the test and you want to travel things. Because he has the five thing we all know he's not vaccinated. You know like because the cam and co or doing this right now. The nfl have to go through the nfl. So happy so happy about this day or so ponder just like we thought you only get vaccinated. You only vaccine not yet wait easy. What's next it's almost like whenever I'm not gonna say come on. No no because it's not that serious but it is like like when you it's almost like they're just waiting like hey. We got a lot more shit that we can win. Or you just going to finally just go ahead and get the vaccination. We know what you we know you feel. Hey that's great and good for you jerry. Jones even said a lot of people without that make their decisions about their own body but whenever their decision starting negatively affect everybody else. You've got to drop the i pick up the week. I think i think that is what jerry actually said the. Nfl is doing that. I think right now. And they're like oh five days out don't worry about. Hey cam come on back and sneeze one time you see it you should. You're gone for another six days. I think that's only this is all i think. Now cams probably not going to camps being affected by this a lot more than coal probably deaf for sure definitely. Yeah becau gonna play it first week. Probably definitely eight to ten targets on third down. Coal is going to get the ball. Visas going to get the ball on third down first game. That is just going to happen. About how many five day little recesses he has to take right cam newton missing these days gonna lose his job valuable huge. So maybe cams the next guy that's just comes out and says i got because fucking lost i had to with justin pugh now saying like hey as vaccinated player. We need to have more tests for the vaccinate players. Almost supports beasley. Where it's like. hey. I didn't get vaccinated still getting tested. Every day still bringing up negative tests and now you want me to go get vaccinated after the guy who was vaccinated almost gaming cova beasley much to the chagrin of a lot of people on the internet but to the support of the opposite side of that part he is going to feast on this feast. Beasley d will not miss you talk. Yeah no no are. We know doc. Mike austin soda. Zim said coach. Zimmer did say that he's a great presentation. We talked about that yesterday at length. I think you missed yesterday's show. You should go back and really listening to me and aj talk about what. The success percentage expected success percentage should have been for all dr mike through our research of outsiders that come in and speak to the team a football especially in training camp where it's ninety guys so it's even more so like power of the model most you're going in there. You got out of five to ten seconds. Yup and that is it. They first impressions. Go a long way in that in those particular meetings. You got five to ten seconds. Really get your angle your narrative and also proved that you're worthy of being listened to in front of an entire team in there has been some of the most sophisticated people most talented orders in the history of speaking that have gone into some of those locker rooms in gotten bullied. It is it is not. I'm not telling you. I like it. I'm just telling you like this is reality. I don't know if dr mike was going to go in there. And maybe flip somebody who was being told that there's a seventy million dollar fine coming in. They wouldn't budge. But if dr mike was able to go in there and we might want to get him a nobel fucking peace prize for dr mike. Even know coach simmer said. I'm not sure how much it swayed anybody. You guys said most of those at the end of the day to right when like guy. You've already had a full day's work you've had the ship out you've been sitting in meetings. You just ready to get the fuck outta there. And yet dr mike open house and comes in by the way. Not me okay. I didn't get the right on me. But that's why. I think i'm pretty good take on it. 'cause i got chance to walk right still pretty with feet as body language..

"A little behind gun. Went hand off gunners hands gotta make the catch. It doesn't matter. How if it hits your hands you gotta catch the ball. Everyone knows that it's done or trying to get back. John's cut does cam. Newton more was with them last year and they had the number one special teams unit because of it. So maybe but i think he just all boats well like to your point. We get to find out like mack jones. Can he be in the locker room in. Shoot the shit with anyone team meeting. Yeah team meeting offensive me. Yes hey what are you seeing here. Got thirty one reps or something like that while yesterday or practice. I mean that's with the ones that's there is they get a full evaluation in every coach and player has basically said like the practices. If somebody's gonna make the team all right the games. I think are a big deal for people that are maybe aren't gonna make team are on. The bubble can have a little juice bersin. They maybe find themselves on that team or another team. The games in preseason. I think our big for them but if somebody's on the team the practices everybody says the practices are where we're getting a lot more evaluation than the games especially for the guys that are going to make the team like mac jones's goal make the team. I mean they're going to be able to test him. Put them in different situations when the lights come on. Can mac show up. I think he's proved in his life that he will be able to do that. Maybe the nfl's a little bit different but practice ruptured huge. and now. they're not having a split anything. they're getting a chance to see him in every situation. I mean it is. It stinks for cam newton. Thanks for cam newton. But the people that are against cam. Newton said whoa camp brought to spawn himself and blah blah blah. But then you could also say well new england could have said like. Hey you can't leave actually right because it is an automatic five day recess. You're not allowed to be around. It's happening in buffalo right now cole. Beasley who who is accomplished wide receiver. D nfl rapper. Yes sir and outspoken. Anti cove advancer right Who has been the target of a lot of vitriol. I think so but also support right into that political world right. You get the people that vines. But he's got a lot of hate from mrs well from a lot of people. But i soon there's a lot of people behind him as well that are in his particular department which by the way that is politics agency enron. You jump into that. That's what's going to happen. He did that even made a song about it. he even made a distract about vaccines based. Yes he did and that was just a couple of weeks ago now cole. Beasley of the buffalo bills has to be away from the buffalo bills for five days due to the re entry process thing because he was around somebody who works for the buffalo bills in the medical department who is fully vaccinated had kovin. Kobe xlii not vaccinated got tested after the interaction with the vaccinated person who has cova did not have covered two tests. I guess that. So this is gonna feed cole beasley by the way so the person that was vaccinated actually got cove we were hanging around each other. I don't have it. He still has it. Tell me so. This is just gonna feed co beasley k. This is just going to feed co beasley supporters. All that thing but one thing that we do know co beasley has to be away from the team five days. he's probably going right into the booth. Ooh look for a remix to that vaccine district coming out very very soon. It's insane right now. Because he's five day things is it just for the non-vaccinated players and are they doing this as the nfl. So they can be like. Hey look the vaccine. Is that why they're doing it. You think or is this for is this just like 'cause if vaccinated guy has it who's going to the athletic trainer medical staff and he doesn't spread it and they don't have it. Why do they have to miss days. Or is it. Because it's dormant. I don't understand how these rules happen. It seems like it's all happening. So they can say. Hey you gotta get fucking vaccinate. I think the vaccinated have to negative tests in a span of forty eight hours. And then then they're good to come back so i think they do miss at least two days but it's definitely not the five day like incubation period or whatever you gotta have Twenty four hours in between those tests. I think so. I could be wrong but i'm pretty sure i read that somewhere that they need to negative tests within the span of forty eight hours. Fox you remember when those tests used to come back seventy two hours later or whatever days ever three days advertising but then it started getting to the point where it was like four days to get those shit saying wait a minute. I got a cough for three days. I got to sit here. And hope that i'm not around anybody that but then i mean that was a nightmare. Very thankful that the tests have gotten much quicker with them getting quicker. What is the accuracy on them. What if what if somebody if they fail or a positive test that they they probably retake right and then they wanted to confirm positive and then it's becomes a big deal or whatever those original tests those wild a mess complete. I have no idea how. Or why or i mean. There's people getting false positives false negatives send it to a different lab. I'd wanna get tested too. So we had to weigh a good hour sometimes power house that we'd have to go back in the morning it is. It is very different caching process. Now i wonder you know and obviously the numbers go down as people stop testing for it but i wonder how accurate the tests are.

"Hello it is tuesday. August twenty fourth. I can't thank you enough for allowing us to be a part of your life here. There's a lot of other options for things. That are probably much better than this to listen to. And the fact that you allow us to penetrate your ear holes on this specific day we are eternally grateful for jason right president of the washington. Football team stops by great conversation. Ice cube yes. That ice cube stops by the boys. Aj hawk everybody can't thank you enough. Let's get to walk. Let's have a fantastic afternoon. You should use the blow dryer. Power through on my. I ain't got time for the fucking blow dry. Exactly sally mcafee uses blow dryer. Okay that is a blow. Dryer of the family. Is sally mcafee. She's in there and she is an artist with that. I don't know if she has double. I don't know if we had enough electrical outlets rumpole but she is an absolute weapon in there with that thing. And i never bought in never bought a never bought in and then as i've gotten older now i will use it and it is a weapon. Your hair is very similar to mine. I told you like. Hey you're getting them all cut. It looks good. Well it's not. Let the hair kind of ruin it you know. Get in there and get that blow dry. I think once you start. "Jd really cared about people and the stories are coming back after he went with lord. Stacks on my desk of stories about how he treated someone you know Little girl sent me a picture of her and she has to struggle walking and she talked about how. Jd met her in the lobby. One time our and and he took her on a tour through the whole building. She wrote back every year. Jd's she sent me pictures she that was that was relationship that he started in all but those stories are there over and over again. It says a lot. Because i have a tendency to go right sometimes. I i go to the big things you know. The main jd went to the individual all add one one of the testimonies of that you know at shady service which you can see at gd gibbs legacy dot com one of the great. You talk about a life well-lived but one of the things you point out is an hour and a half service not once. Did somebody talk about an accomplishment from work. What they were talking about was the influence that the that he'd have on them now. Many of those came through the platform of work and sogeti was really good at what he did but he knew how to use it as a platform for other things. And that's what that's what affected people. That's what you know. That's what affected me. That's what affected so many people. The joe was talking about is is that it was. Hey look we're called to be really good at what we do. Again i think that's a biblical mandate as hey be excellent so so as a race team you know who want. Who's gonna care about what we do like. Nobody cares what you think if you stink so be really good lead. A lot of apps a lot of races but jd had this keen awareness of once. We do that. It's that is to create a platform to do other things whether it's giving whether it's impacting people whether it's using it as a platform and i think that was really the example kind of a barometer for all of us is watching how he did that. in really in every facet of the company and his life seems a good place to note that proceeds from this book. Taking the lead. We'll go to the jd. Gibbs legacy fund the young life ministry the talked so the portion that would go to the author right is going to be donated that and jd's legacy fund funds urban ministry here at young life at a young life in charlotte some of the under-resourced high schools and young life and ministry. That was very dear to jd. And i in high school and Really important to us and our company now and so. We're really grateful to be able to do that. So i i joke. That's that makes me Be able to shamelessly plug the book. Because i know that the that of portion is all being donated to something. That's great that's great to hear. Jd was a special person. I've got some more questions about him. I wanted to eventually. But i i just want to go back to to dave story really quickly coach and it seems like his big breakthrough was deciding that he was gonna sell joe gibbs racing t shirts on consignment at redskins game. I heard dave side. That i'm wondering your side of that. I'm not sure i told him he. Yes he was definitely okay. We being aggressive abi be at a young guy that's going after But actually dave handled a bunch of early projects. We had a van deal. Took off on as i you know for most people. I encourage them particularly if the young people. If you want to know something about something are you worried about you know. Should i get into the best thing to do is divan because is just get after it because you'll learn by mistakes and all but you can't sit back and guess what something is going to be and i think day took off that way and it was different projects jumping on them going after your automate. Some of those bombed out but some of them you know and you see that's how you hit a home run sometimes too so being aggressive getting after i think is a big part of young people starting out in life that aggression that you had talked about this in the book as well when you first moved to charlotte you were still dating the woman who become your wife stacy and she was still in virginia. So you're commuting back and forth six hours at a time. Fridays and sundays and then working here full time so it was you know why that is they have we have a saying. He outpointed his coverage. As you say that. I did know for that. I for that. I really year and a half that i was down here before. I got married pretty much. Every other week i would go to the race and then every other week i would go to washington. Yeah or go back to virginia. See her so yet. No we'd we'd work in leave on friday and it's funny we early on. We had this deal with van conversion company and they it. Let me borrow this Pop top van. That had you know it was like a big conversion van. And i'm i'm twenty three years old and was it was funny that i would drive around. This have drove around in this. Big conversion van and i would go back and forth to virginia To see her and her dad who's kind of one of my spiritual piero's now but you know at the time. He was very strict and she was his oldest daughter and he was very protective. And so the idea was. You gotta have a real job before you're gonna ask her to marry song very motivated for many reasons. I didn't want to let the gives down. And i didn't wanna let my future father-in-law down. And i wanted to marry stacey so i was like i better make something of this or or this is going to take forever. We'd already been dating since she was seventeen and eighteen so we dated all through college. Now i'm out of college. And i'm like all right. I'd like to get married at some point here and so yeah i had. I had no fallback plan. So i was very motivated to make it work. Obviously that sounds like a ton of commitment there that you put in not just for the personal side but the professional side doing it all at once and you know you talked about david. The saying that's not. My job is unacceptable jobs racing. And i'm just curious. I'm restore coach on this one. Do you have any examples of that of doing things at you. Lead by example in that way doing things that people might not expect the team owner to do to show people. Hey nothing is out of bounds here for hat well. The first year. When i started the idea was i was going to continue to coach. And the guys and don meredith and jimmy may car. The team would take the race team. And so you know that. Was the game plan. Well after that year. I decided you know coy was playing football stanford i'd missed most of jd's football games. It william and mary. So i made a decision to get out for family so i could go see koi play football in the at stanford and then all the my passion of racing so i had those two reasons and so when i stepped out you know that was that was different from me as i was starting a new life and so we took off in that direction. S what pat nye said. Hey look let's go to charlotte and Virginia was just fantastic for us to get coach..

"They wise up today where we are and now he's the president of the company. So that's a journey. I think that's exciting for people to hear and then of course how a company gets built. I love those stories of when you talk to people that do these outstanding johnny morris started selling a few things in the back of his day has hardware store and today the the i fascinated. That's the great thing about america. I love that their stories. There were people say i have a vision. I wanna do something they take off and do it. Those are some of the greatest stories in america. Thank you so. I think days fits in there and there's a lot to it. I learned a lot about jobs racing. Because dave was there from the outset as i think i the unpaid intern. Eventually you got paid a few months in after you prove it. Sell t-shirts at yeah. But you started out as an unpaid intern here out of a room closet with no power outlet and this wasn't this building by the way this is the paid part i like. I like the broom closet. More than i liked the unpaid part. Yeah that is true so that was more than twenty years ago. That was I guess would have been nineteen ninety-two yet. Ninety ninety two ninety three so you has about twenty really about twenty eight years ago which is like crazy and your relationship with coach goes back even further than that you met. Jd gibbs coach's son while you guys were going to middle school together experts kenya. Yeah no and i talk a lot about. We became friends in middle school and and they had just moved to town and wasn't the greatest start for the skins they started. Oh and five. And i wasn't sure if jd was going to be my friend long before they left town and gratefully. They didn't yeah. We went to high school and jaydee. I've shared the story lot. Jd was in to say he was. The all american kid would be like an understatement museum. Great looking. He was the quarterback of the football team. I joke he drove a dang z. Twenty eight like he was straight out of out of hollywood end but was the just the nicest guy and and really would befriend different. People and i was one of his friends. And honestly i would always. Jd had a lot of friends and my start here. One of the things. That stood out that i talk in. The book is j. d. Had a lot of friends and could have asked anybody and asked me and so my motivation early on was really not to let either of them down. J. j. d. could ask anybody but he asked me and i remember later in life him saying when i asked him. Why did you pick me. He said because. I knew i could count on you and so i remember thinking well that i'm not gonna let you down and i felt the same way about coach. And so you you go into it going you know. Unlike driver or a crew chief where they have a specific drivers are the best in the world at what they do and the crew chiefs the best in the world you know with with me i mean again i joe talks a lot about average joes. I really am kind of an average joe. There wasn't one skill that i had. So i've got a i said i got to figure out how to earn my keep here and not let them down without. It was going to look different because driver. Just says i'm gonna go win. Racism that's all. I'm why didn't touch the cars. I didn't make the cars go fast. So what we're areas. I could do that. And that's kind of how it all started. But it really was them. You know jd saying hey i want to have my buddy come down here because we needed some help and coach san hail. I'll give you a shot and and so not really not wanting to let them down. That's kind of how it all started and so over those twenty eight years. You've got from unpaid intern to president of the entire company and coach. Did you see from the outset. That dave alpern would become that kind of leader in your company because dave great stories in the book about when he was a kid and he would go to the restaurant where you guys would have dinners after redskins games after you wanted. Dave would say that as soon as he walked in the room. You would say hey burns here. Did you know there was something special about this guy for well i think. Jd you know. Obviously they were buddies but through that process of them growing up. They were around the house a lot. And you get a chance to see him. I talk about playing football out there in the snow with them. So you get to know somebody. That's the best way to hire somebody or get somebody to come on. Your team is if you know him. And of course j. d. had real confidence there and i think the other thing for me. I remember my coaching days. We were in a tough situation but the redskins replacing monday night game against the cardinals and i always talk to the team the night before. I'm too nervous a day of the game. She got to wait all the way to monday night. I go out from the team. And i just said this. I said if you guys got anything to give the the redskins you need to give it tonight. We we got a real problem. Got down header lord's prayer. When we stood up. I had twelve guys. Go through four super bowls with me. Three of them upfront had tears. They were crying as so my point is i've felt if you can get people that come on your team that here about the team. Those are the people that come early. Stay late got hard. And and and they are loyal to what's taken place. And i felt like dave over those years. I think. Jd so at early and they were buddies and they were actually three of them. They came on board there and they wound up miraculously going into different areas and their expertise to help build. What have today so. I think dave cared appreciate. That and coach was gracious enough to write the forward and it was actually kind of awkward. This is actually awkward. Because i didn't pay. That is true. But i i asked him to write the ford again. He wrote a. I don't know if i've actually even thanked him l. Take this opportunity again. The words meant a lot and again he talks about some of what he said there in the ford. And but you don't think that you know when you're a young kid you're just going you gotta complex and i was terrified. Well i talked about being terrified of jimmy. I was terrified of pretty much. Everyone in the building because the nickname were the college pukes. These three guys that weren't racers and we came into this building with all hardcore racers. That have been racing. Their whole lives led by. Jimmy maker. Led by jimmy maker whose nickname most people did not people who know him now. Didn't know his nickname was mad. Dog and sounds like a guy who likes color. Yeah coach went in and just say. Hey here's three guys. You picked the first fifteen. But i got three or four. You one was eighty. One was todd. One was me figure something out for them and my goal. Every day was to not be noticed by. Jimmy may car to be where he wasn't you know don't embarrass jd. And joe but don't get noticed by jimmy that was. That was my deal coach. Dave describes in the book that you like people who you call but busters Which is based on character and heart and talent and how they fit into the. Jj our culture. I think you just said that. Essentially knowing day before he came here you look for people who fit that culture was dave. I guess what you never for about buster. Yeah i think. I think he is and i think that group was that initial group was obviously. Jimmy may carleen everything We still got. I think seven of that original.

The Mets Quest To Rebuild, And Rebrand, Themselves
"So tim. It's certainly been a roller coaster of an off season for the new york mets. How would you characterize the state of this. Mets organization as we head into the twenty twenty one season. I feel like the mets are still in kind of a period of transition as an organization. Steve cohen took over at the start of november and he brings in sandy alderson. The team's former general manager as his team president guy who's really well respected around the game of baseball and the thought was they wanted to instill a new culture for the mets to build this new mets team. That was totally different from what they had previously under wilpon ownership and for two and a half months they nailed it. We're going to build a process that produces great teams year in and year out. You bill champions you. Don't buy them. They nailed the opening. Press conference and i plan to make the investments. We need to succeed. It started signing guys. Trevor may and james mccann. They make a huge landmark trade for francisco endure and carlos carrasco the first week of january and everything was rolling in the right direction for them until mid-january and the story about jared porter and his inappropriate text messages and texts photos with a female reporter while he was a member of the chicago cubs front office in two thousand sixteen exposed that maybe the mets could have done a better job in the vetting process. That was clearly for a lot of baseball reporters. Based on the inference took off of twitter talked and he will find out his character. That's on you. Skepticism is really exacerbated. A couple of weeks later when we learned about micky calloway's misconduct as mets manager. In two thousand eighteen. Twenty nine thousand. Nine callaway sent unsolicited messages and photos to women among other inappropriate and harassing behavior. The former mets manager aggressively pursued the women through messages and in person the team released a statement saying was hired by sandy alderson. As the general manager. Calloway had been hired by. Sandy alderson two years before so i think all of the good vibrations from the first couple months of the offseason were undercut by what happened in the last month of the offseason for mid january to the start of spring training in february

Both men told USA Today they believe Kalinic is being punished, especially after comments were made by former EMS team president Kevin Mother in a Bellevue Rotary Club speech. Houston Texans president Jamey Rootes resigning after 20 years with franchise
"Lot of focus on what's been going on in Houston this off season. Wednesday. We learned team President James Roots, resigns ESPN Insider Adam Schefter today their president, Jamie Roots, resigned, effective immediately, and I think any time there's any news with the Houston Texans People want to know. How does this impact or read out with two Shaun watching, and I think the issue here is that there are people in that organization in and around the league who have questions about the direction of that franchise. Jamie Roots clearly was one of them. He was a part of the search process that basically blacked him out. Discounted and ignored the words of the search firm that the organization paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for and in the end, when with Nicolas Ariel, who obviously is a qualified candidate, no issue with Nick Osario, it's the way the organization ran the search and ultimately moved in the end. I think Jamie roots is uncomfortable with that he was uncomfortable with the direction of the franchise. Ultimately, after 20 years with the organization in which he made all their big business decisions, he decided to resign from his post, which I think is a reflection off the way that some people in that organization and some people around the league view that spot right now,

"Darvin Ham team President Peter Fagan talking about your favorite basketball team from on the court. Good stretches. Where, you know, I think that the guys have executed and done some things. Well, you off. The key is I think the planning was great. The execution is going well. It's time to go courtside with the Milwaukee Bucks. Here's your host, Gail Papa. One. I'm Gail Klopfer at this is courtside with the Milwaukee Bucks. You've heard the old adage. Go West Young man. Go West. Let's just what the bucks have done tonight. The team is in the middle of the longest road trip of the season. So far, the trick actually began with a quick jog to the East, a miniseries against the Cavaliers in Cleveland, two games to convincing wins, then under Denver for a showdown with the Nuggets and a dude you can't ignore. They call him the Joker. He can drop 50 points on you in a heartbeat. Last night, he poured 35. But the Bucks took control of the second half Yannis and Chris Middleton combined for 59 points. The bench mob kept the momentum rolling, and the monks racked up their fifth win in a row. Now, the westward ho continues with stops ahead and Phoenix, Salt Lake and Oklahoma City and as the truck rolls on, you can bet that a big part of the Buck's story will be the best mob. Our guest tonight is the unofficial chairman of the mob. He honed his skills on the hard court at Notre Dame in his third season with the Bucks. He brings it every night with energy defense. Of toughness and the ability to score from up close or downtown Beverly that he's got a side hustle in the construction business. We'll talk about it all with one of the most versatile players on the Bucks. Roster. Pat Connaughton pad Welcome. Great to have you back on court side. Awesome. Appreciate you having me gallows. Very nice intro. I don't know if I deserve all of that. I think you do. Absolutely particularly if you keep shooting the way you are bad, Definitely well. Terrific. Well pad after an uneven start. The team is clearly started to jail. What what was the catalyst in your mind that helped kick the team into another gear? Um, well, I would say just the The time and you know you learn a lot about yourself. When you go through a little bit of diversity, I think in the years passed my first two years here, Um, you know, we didn't face all that much diversity throughout the regular season, and this year we have a bunch of new guys. So there's a lot of chemistry that has to be formed. And that doesn't happen overnight and especially, doesn't happen when You know, there's such a short preseason both from a practice and a preseason game standpoint on Ben, Like I said, You know, I think it's actually pretty good for us that a Zagros up with the new guys included. We went through a little bit of adversity on go. We're finding ways to, um, you know, deal with it. You know, it's better to learn about that now than to have to learn about it. You know, in playoff time, which is what we've had to do over the last few years. That makes a lot of sense, but it really does. You know, we've often talked about pro basketball being a game of adjustments. The Bucks coaching staff is clearly made changes in both the offensive and defensive schemes that what do you see is the biggest differences between this year and last Um, yeah, I think this is a lot more space on the floor offensively. Um, you know, we've changed our spacing a little bit, and we have a lot of guys that are unselfish. You want to play with each other and want to, you know, shoot as much sorry, past as much as they want to shoot. I think that's really unique in the MBA s O for us, Um Having that space allows Yonathan Crist operate with a little more freedom and, um, make sure that they see a little bit less of a crowd and then you know defensively, it's about continuing our quest to be as good defensively as possible. That's where it all starts for us, and I don't think at the beginning of the season we were as good as we needed to be. I think you could be a little more physical and I think You know, it's about getting, you know a bunch of the new guys. Uh, Up to speed with exactly how we defend because, you know, we pride ourselves on having each other's back on sometimes comes whether NBA teams that's not always the case. It's up to you to guard your own man, and you don't have as much help for us. We want over help. You want to make sure we're there for each other and one the team it has. Another too much back. There is a third teammate having that guy's back, so I think we're start finally starting to get in rhythm with that, and hopefully we continue to build upon it on this West Coast swing. How does the team continue to improve and defending the long ball? The three point shots? You know, it's about that extra effort. You know, defending three, especially say Themba is such a big deal. It's such an important part of the game that we want to make sure that we Make it a little bit harder when we weigh scramble, and it's about giving that extra little bit of effort and then making them a little bit more on cultural obviously, and says MBIA. There's guys shooting from 35 40 ft..

"The upbeat attitude. That team president there's course of illness has had, um, didn't want to give any any information that might steer the course of illness in another direction. On doing so, uh, you know, came off that we're trying to hide. Something was initially true. And so is the effect of the matter is is that he's doing really well. White House physician Dr Sean calmly yesterday, admitting that he put an overly rosy spin on President Trump's Covitz symptoms during Saturday briefing Come on. He told the press outside Walter Reed Medical Center that President Trump needed supplemental oxygen twice after his blood oxygen saturation levels dropped. He was also given the steroid decks, a method zone, a drug typically used to treat serious covet cases. It added up to a muddled message on just how sick the president was, or is Trump, though tweeted today that he'll be leaving the hospital this afternoon. Meanwhile, White House press secretary Kayleigh Mcenany announced this morning she has Cove it She's at least the 11th member of Trump's inner circle to test positive. This caps off what can only be described as a tumultuous and damning weekend for the White House and for the country. A new national poll by NBC and the Wall Street Journal shows Trump trailing former vice President Joe Biden by 14 points. Joining us now is Sahil Kapur. National political reporter for NBC News. Welcome back Sonia. All right. So what if we can determine from any polling at all is the impact of Trump's diagnosis on his reelection effort in terms of popular support. Love Madeline. The race has been exceptionally stable for months. Now it has been somewhere in the range of a 6 to 8 Point lead for Vice President Joe Biden and national polling averages. The swing states obviously very off out front, but he has a comfortable lead in most of the swing states that he needs to win. Somebody's clearly the front runner. This point is clearly in the driver's seat. And the polls that we've had the balls that we've seen since the president's diagnosis are sparse. We haven't NBC Wall Street Journal poll that came over the weekend that was finished just before the president's positive test, and it showed by with a 14 point lead. That's the biggest and our polling and on the Sea Wall Street Journal going Going back to last summer, the summer 2019 between Biden Trump. So we can tell from that that the first debate certainly did not help President Trump by more than 2 to 1 margin. Respondents in our poll said that Joe Biden did a better job that made the president with a really awful fine here on this recent covert positive test on his diagnosis is certainly not helping him because it's pulled him off the campaign trail at the worst possible moment, and that's why he's that's why we see such an eagerness on his part to get out of the hospital, which he has said as you mentioned. He plans to do later on today. Right? I mean, there. It seems to be, though a risk that if his condition does worsen, he'll have to go back to the hospital. And that might not look any better might look worse in terms of the optics he wants to control. It's interesting in a number of fronts. It's a health risk to himself in the event that he were to get worse hospital, you know he wouldn't be in the hospital. Doctors wouldn't be around and have the facilities that could do it, Walter Reed to immediately tend to him. It's a risk to others because if he only tested positive several days ago It is pretty much a scientific and medical certainty that he still has it and will for several days to come. Who is going to come in contact with it going potentially infect them. And yes, it's a major risk to his. It's a gamble that he's taking. With regard to his presidential campaign and his political hopes, because if you were to suffer a setback of any kind, that would be devastating because it would again shine a light on his decision making throughout this process, whether it's you know whether it's been his policies on Kobe and his handling on a national scale or his decisionmaking personally, his refusal to wear masks at various instances is downplaying of the virus. The severity of it on multiple occasions. So tumultuous sounds quite accurate to describe the moment President Trump is in at this point. Yeah, Yeah. Still, he tweeted today? Don't be afraid of Cove. It don't let it dominate your life we have developed under the Trump administration, some really great drugs and knowledge. I feel better than I did 20 years ago. Could people see that as well? Evidence that he was right that Cove? It isn't that big of a deal, despite the fact that more than 200,000 Americans have died of it. But that they see him as a strong leader who can beat the odds of this of this disease. It's hard to see a message like, Don't be afraid of Kobe resonating when, as you pointed out, 200,000 people in the United States have died for it. Still, tens of thousands of people per day are reporting new infections and that pound just continues to rise. Foreign above. Any other comparable country in the developed world. You know that's sending out reliable information. So it's the other problem with that message is President Trump had Access to the best treatment in the world. Not everyone has that he was given an experimental drug cocktail that ordinary patients were called and positive would not necessarily have access to, some medical specialists said. That that was akin to doing the kitchen sink at the fish, But you don't you don't offer a drug cocktail like that, unless you think that there's a real problem and that the patient wasn't responding well to you, no ordinary treatment, so It's just difficult to see how this helps the president because it's part and parcel of what he's been doing all along, which is to downplay the severity of the virus. To say it'll go away to say it's not a big deal, and that message is not served him well so far. Yeah, well, not to mention he's also getting all of this care for free. Most Americans can't afford to pay for the kind of care that he received. Let's look at some of the key battleground states in some of the polling Arizona considered a Republican state, or at least a purple state, but A New York Times CNN polling. The latest poll from them shows that Biden is up by eight points in Arizona..

"We love the earth. Right. It is real cool. I just got a text from my friend Allen. I went to high school with. Yup. Who who asked this question? He's fascinated by the Laker conversation. He feels he's an educated basketball fan, but doesn't know the difference between director of basketball operations in the GM. Can you guys explain that? Yes. We can most teams not all but most teams have a team president or director of basketball operations, then hires the GM or works above the GM. Now, for example in Boston. I think Danny aines runs all basketball operations. But he's got like he's got a GM. Clippers are good example, this Lawrence Frank is the president of basketball operations and Michael winger is the GM. The bottom line is the president of basketball operations is the guy who who has final say in the room. He's the final. That's what magic was correct. If you don't replace him, then you just default to the. AM which you could do I think, you know, pretty much in insane. Antonio two guys are c- Buford. Yep. And Gregg Popovich, that's it. So it could be if they hire run fairness they've got one of the largest scouting staffs in the league and one of the one of the deepest analytics programs. Oh, I texted you something today that said some guy tried to make an argument with some guy in silver screen enroll. No forget that. He tried CB thirty six tried to make the argument, I wondered how you would respond to this that the reason Pelinka could could run basketball operations Debbie super into analytics. So if that turned out to be true, if he was making all these decisions analytically, would you then come around on pulling because you're Mr. analytics, well, they only got two people in their analytics department, right? But one of the smallest analytics department in the league, right? As far as we know we don't know if rob is talking to people outside of. I mean in terms of staff of the warriors have eight and the Lakers have to that. We know of. I mean, again, I got secret. Why do we know the warriors all eight, and why names, and we don't know? And we know that too with the lake I think what we're learning about the Lakers over the past ever since magic step down is that they're done talking. No one is talking about anything. So we don't know. I mean, you were talking about transparency there for entrance. We know. For example, when people are fired there've been there've been big firings over, right? Well, that's because the people announce they've been fired. But the Lakers don't announce it. I the reason, you know, those people got fired as I told you, right? No. But I'm saying invented, you guys all know, right because we're friends of these people and they've been fired. You know, the only they didn't even announce that they had fired the trainer the, no, no. They did. I think there was a story about Marco Marco Nunez. Correct. That the beat reporters wrote. Right. Yeah. That. That there's no quote from the Lakers in there. There's no announcement from the Lakers. Oh, no. They're done talking. They're not that is stupid stupid tragedy. Whoever planned it is making a stupid stupid mistake. But I think the next time we hear from anything Lakers related it'd be when they hire the coach huge mistake running the organization who is aiming Ainley who's advising genie who's advising to stay.
