"Yes, Sir Yep Taylor Schwenk work and from a beach in Delaware on buster. Only I'm working from my home studio grinding away vacation. Incite actually. That's a lie in new. York. The MARLINS, two games against the Orioles last night and tonight were called off as well as the phillies home game against the Yankees on Monday. Miami just completed a series in Philadelphia from the weekend and afterwards seven more players in two coaches with the marlins tested positive for the coronavirus in this brought the total cases in recent days to at least thirteen sources told ESPN's Jeff passan Jesse Rogers sources still pass, and at the Orioles left Miami Monday night for Baltimore, as Tuesday's game was also postponed. The marlins goes straight from Philadelphia to Baltimore for their scheduled Games on Wednesday and Thursday so it's a big mess involving the marlins. Rob Manfred was on the major league baseball network with Tom Purdue. She and he was asked about the protocols. We talked about the situation I. Think most of the owners realize that we built protocols anticipating that we would have positive tests at some point during the season that the protocols were built in order to allow us to continue to play through those positives and I think there was support for the notion that we believe that the protocols are adequate to keep our players say you was asked about the severity of. Of the situation I, don't put this in the nightmare category. I mean obviously we don't want any player to get exposed. It's not a positive thing, but I don't see it is a nightmare. We built the protocols to allow us to continue to play. That's why we have the expanded rosters. That's why we have the pool of additional players, and we think we can keep people safe and continue to play now I could tell you throughout the game. There was a lot of concern is as marlins news broke yesterday. But from what I heard absolutely no talk about shutting down the season at this point during Monday David Price tweeted and of course David Price The longtime respected veteran pitcher, who out of the season he tweeted out now. We really get to see if Major League baseball is GONNA put players. I remember when Manfred said players health was paramount part of the reason at home right now. Now is because players, health wasn't being put. I I can see. That hasn't changed the Colorado Rockies, said left-handed Pitcher Tim Collins offering out of the two thousand twenty season of course earlier in this process rockies outfielder Ian Desmond opted out. The Rangers announced on Monday that they're gonNA. Shut Down Corey Kluber for at least four weeks. He's got a shoulder issue and given that timeline in the. Contracts of the calendar seems unlikely. We're GONNA see Corey Kluber pitch again in two thousand and twenty Fernando East, Junior, the padres, one of the most exciting players in the game and on Monday at himself a moment. Lie Antelopes should have a base from third cubs. Garcia. Being waived around all the way to the track of the wall and Oliveras GonNa come around and score basis triple Burg-. Junior the padres take six to. Donors! On the PADRES television network I love the fact that in two thousand twenty I mean there. Most of its are things you don't love, but I do love the fact. I could hear the coach yelling. Come on, come on waving the runners going around third in that clip the polar bear Pete Alonso did some damage for the mets and Fenway Park. That's driven down the left field line towards. The monster and that ball is out of here. Alonzo of a line drive, just tall, enough flair, the thirty seven foot fence, his first home run of the season, a two run shot to make it four nothing New York Gary Cohn on S, N, Y, that home run clocked at one hundred sixteen point three miles per hour Alex Bregman of the Astros reached a milestone bregman. laughed. What's that one? It is. God career home run number one hundred for Alex pragman regulates stepping up. Big Way made the adjustment got a fastball mistake up out over the plate perils. Stands up on it. Is in the sentiment club that from the Astros television network now week ago, we were talking about whether or not Anthony Rizzo was back. Issue might hold them out of the season opener I think he's okay. And then have to outs. Look like. Maybe he was going to get out of it. But they jumped them. Let them off the Hawk Rizzo out of the D. Ryan. And it is gone homerun his third of the year seven and nothing. Len Kasper Jim Shays on the cubs television network now before we get to Jesse Rogers of ESPN about the Marlin Situation Scott Lauber of the Philadelphia. Inquirer, about what happens next with the phillies whose games yesterday was postponed. I want to say check out the latest episode of the Hoop. Collective Kevin Pelton draft expert Mike Schmitz joined Brian Win hearst to discuss the young stars of the bubble in if their careers so far match the expectations that surrounded them coming into the league. Find it wherever get your podcast. Jesse Rogers covers baseball ESPN Jesse your home in Chicago. How you doing well doing well enjoying some of the games when they're played. Of course we get canceled, but it's good to see baseball on the field when when we can actually see it being played. What was it like to be Wrigley Field the other day for that first game on on Friday. It was strange I mean it feels like an exhibition game. And when they were actually playing exhibition games, it felt right, and then all of a sudden, the regular season, and it was definitely strange. Just you know what? I missed the crowd buster. It's not on the obvious homerun. That's hit five hundred feet. You know it's how it's that warning track fly ball that you missed the crescendo of the crowd, and then of course, if it's a home game, they the. The CY after it's caught, or if it's a road came you know something different than it? Just you miss the little things that the crowd brings do it not necessarily the wave or the big tier after home run, and I even think players miss those moments where the crowd Kinda tells them where the ball's going and I thought that was kind of interesting to watch and and sort of realized when the ball goes up like that I'm not. GonNa hear. A sound effect, right? I'm not gonNA hear people. Tell me where it's going. So it's very strange, but that was offset by one of the great pitching performances on opening day in a long long time, and that was Kyle Hendricks on Friday complete game shutout buster after three and a half month. Delay to this season that was a lot of fun to be in the building for that. You're right about the crowd and the home runs. I've noticed, and this is not at all a criticism of anybody but a lot. The announcers are missed missing the home run calls. Were there surprised like animal there left? That's way out. And it's because of course we're all accustomed to seeing that. The fans rising as they see the ball in their. You know Nice their clues as to where the ball's going. How far it's going and all those things, and then they're probably announcers realizing. Yeah I've been relying on those faints even more than I realized. Either GonNa have to do. They're going to have to rely on the crack of the bat a little bit more because you do. Hear that more than ever so those loud. Once you know. The ball's going somewhere far. Yeah exactly right so you know. Dave Martinez nationals manager you covered him as Joe Man's bench coach with the cubs and I'm sure you'll agree with me. First and foremost, he is a good. He's earnest. He's genuine is sincere, and that all came through yesterday as he was speaking to reporters in the aftermath of the news of the marlins outbreak here was Dave Martinez talking about his concerns, my level of concern and went from an eight to twelve. I mean this thing really can. You know it's all now that you see you know half a team you know, get in fact, it and go from one city to another so. I got friends on on that Miami team, and it really stinks man. I'M NOT GONNA lie sugarcoat. To see those guys go down like that. You know it's not good for for that. It's not good for anybody you know I got. Really concerned as well and. For me, this is this is my family on I. Worry about these guys at worry about anybody around us. I don't want. Anybody gets sick. So this is definitely a big concern. I can't say that I'm not thinking about it. Because I am I. got this morning I woke up. And had all these text messages and. Dot some difficulty managers, and the definitely a level of concern. Hopefully that is resolved and of course Dave. Martinez someone last year had a heart issue and he was asked about that..

"Producing from his home studio in the Foothills Connecticut is Taylor Schwenk on buster, only down in Washington following last night season opener that we've broadcast between the nationals and the Yankees. Everything began again last night, and it was Sorta, Classic Two Thousand Twenty about five hours before the first pitch of that game. We learned that Juan Soto. The Best Hitter in the Washington lineup tested positive for Kobe. Nineteen is on the injured list. He missed the game on Thursday. He's out indefinitely Mike Rizzo. The nationals general manager talked about how this is going to be something that teams are GonNa have to deal with. This is part of this preparation for baseball in two thousand twenty. It's we're going to have to have to learn how to Adjusted these things and I think the you know the team that. Really does the best job of keeping their star players on the field, and in keeping them healthy is he's got a better chance of winning than than the other teams. Now the nationals got word of the positive test in the morning they spent the next few hours scrambling going through health and safety protocol, trying to determine who wants soda been around in the previous day, and going through a lot of other people in the organization. Going through tests may have had contact with him. He was asked about whether or not. This could be a false positive well. I'm not a medical doctor will. Also where he's going to be Justin retested and we will, we'll see up and abide by all the protocols of the CDC in MLB now. That was the backdrop game Dr Anthony Fauci threw out the first pitch, and it went Wade. The left was a socially distant pitch. Nationals in Yankees began, and in the top of the first inning Giancarlo Stanton came to the plate against Max Scherzer. We've been talking about how great he looks physically certainly paid off last night. Wanted to stamp. Swing and a high fly ball, well-struck out towards left Centerfield that will back there on its way dog absolutely crushed by John Carlos Stanton out to left centre. Boo Giambi the legend on ESPN radio, four hundred sixty feet on homerun atom, even came to the plate in the bottom of the first against Garrett Cole to to as hitting the year right feel pretty well struck going back as judge in that one is odd. Adam eight no touch them all. Yeah. We've been hearing from folks around baseball that the baseball is flying again and even with two of Baseball's best pitchers on the mound last night. That was the case. The Yankees added their leading the top of the third the want. Swinging a ball rocketed down the left side, and that's a fair ball, and that one is towards the Corner Stevenson over to pick it up racing around third, and heading towards the plate is Wade and Wade will come in to score. It's an RBI double for Aaron. Judge in its three one. Stanton tacked on top of it sure ready out of the stretch kicks fires. Swing and a line drive at a right field, and that one is going to get down for a base hit. One run comes into score. And the Yankees on the single by stanton make it four to one. After lying that first inning home run Garrett Cole look good. The to. Outside corner got him looking robe.

"Taylor Schwenk Buster, only working for my home studio in New York. News and notes today as we get going the pirates Chris Archer is GonNa miss this season whatever season that is, however, it's defined. He's GonNa. Be Out at least until two thousand twenty one after having surgery yesterday Dr Robert Thompson, performed surgery, and the thirty one year old right hander Tuesday in Saint. Louis to relieve symptoms of the Rasic Outlets Syndrome the pirates holding eleven million dollar option on our trip for two thousand. Thousand. Twenty, one, but let's face it given the medical concerns given the the salary shifting landscape and baseball for finances with the money being lost. I'd be shocked if they actually picked up that option. Major League Baseball finally released a statement about racism entitled our Game Has Zero Tolerance for racism. This was nine days after George Floyd died while in police custody in Minneapolis Major League Baseball said as part of a statement that are game has zero tolerance for racism and racial injustice MLB committed to engaging our communities to invoke change among other words. They're getting a lot of criticism because they were just too slow to react. To Events ESPN and the Atlantic are reporting that Major. League baseball toll. The Union. The unit has no interest in extending the season into November when it fears. A second wave of the Krahn virus could disrupt the season Taylor that all said I will tell you I. got a flicker hope overnight that there might be a sincere effort for these two sides to actually go into a middle ground. You know been like Doctor Doom during this thing I'm. I'm just going to tell you got a little flicker hope and maybe it gets extinguished like everything else in these conversations, but it was one of the first real flickers a hope that I heard. Can you elaborate on that at all? Because I feel like I read that report that they're not going to counter and I felt lower than ever, so I need it. Bring it on. No. I'm not gonNA overstaying okay. Got A little flick hope we'll talk Clinton Yates coming up about where the players in the owners stand, and what might happen if they were like a fifty game season. We're also going to be talking with Paul. In Bikinis, about which players might be better off skipping h shore season in two thousand and twenty before we get to that on ESPN daily Major. He owns and operates a funeral home where he seeing families through their grief. That's ESPN daily listening. Subscribe wherever get your podcast. The columnist for the undefeated you see him on around the horn here on ESPN radio and Clinton I gotta say. When we put in our quest avalon this week, and we always take our show usually in the nine to ten hour I didn't realize 'til afterward, oh my God. You're in La. Like! You're getting up early joining us I, appreciate it no problem. I mean you know as somebody who moved out here just a couple of months ago. That's part of the routine, but sometimes you don't always get up and talk first thing in the morning you get up and say emails and so forth, but now I'm glad to be here and yet. Los Angeles has been. been lovely, so the weather's keeping me sane, and then otherwise trying time in the world in an American right the biggest tension. My marriage is that when I wake up I am zero to sixteen point two seconds. Are you not that way in the morning? Absolutely that way in the morning I'm definitely a morning. Person I just have to be awake. That's the only difference so. That's all there is to that. I was. Following your twitter feed yesterday, and you're doing a cool thing. you wrote? Look for all those who've asked I've I've gone primarily the self care route, which is to say talking about things that make me happy as simply one I'm going to do whenever I. Get the chance to matter the topic so going to do that now. And then you started to post baseball cards and pictures and I absolutely love that took. One of them was one of the best people I've met in a game Charles. Johnson suggests there's sort of take me through that yesterday. So here's the deal. I as a baseball fan, one of the things that I love about the game is not just the major league level buster. This is something I've talked about a lot I. liked the game for what it's worth at all forms from little league. All the way up to the top flight now results one of the things that interest me. A lot is certain guys who got to the game. Game in certain ways, or they started playing Major League Baseball, and they weren't stars, they might have been big time and other levels at the amateur level, or what have you and a lot of those players? Eighties and nineties happened to be brothers, so what I have, if you've ever seen me on around the horn or any other programs across are fine quality network. You see my background. My background is a wall in my kitchen where I put up basically a shrine to the average black player. That's basically just what I do and my buddy who? Who recently had a death in his family, he inherited a bunch of cards from his uncle, whom he had a relationship with that was very much built on the memorabilia cy, personally as a kid growing up as a baseball fan who collected baseball cards who ended up getting into newspaper design editor roles and writing about the game I realized not just in terms of what they represent baseball cards from a collection standpoint, but like you break down the design and the photo journalism on some of these things in just a writing baseball cards to me or Or such a fascinating news peg into so much of the game, and that's why I posted them the way that I did buster. You Post the front and the back you know, and you make a notation about something you saw because somebody put together. It's more than just a memory of the player. It's about what the actual card looks like visually, which is why I have them up on my home set for television. It's all wrapped together and I love it. Yeah, one of them for example. I love the the one you had of Joe Carter. Noting that the you know the best one, doesn't you? Don't even see his face. If you're GONNA, explain that basically on the front of that Beckett issue now for those who don't know what Beckett is Beckett was the magazine that listed all the prices for the cards back in the eighties and nineties, Beckett became an extremely influential publication in the world of baseball, overall because of how high quality the memorabilia industry was at that point from an influence standpoint, so the BECCA covers in the. The Beckett magazines were huge. That particular cover had Michael Jordan on the front back when he was playing for the White Sox, we all saw that in the thirty for thirty episode, in which chronicled that tail. Now on the back of that episode is of course, a picture of Joe Carter taking Mitch, Williams out to win the world series for the Blue Jays now. The big picture is a photo of Mitch Williams walking away. Seeing the big picture is a photo of Joe Carter. In the look on his face after hit that homer! The small inset picture is Mitch Williams walking away and Joe Carter with that memorable jumping around the bags. You can only see the number twenty nine from the back. It's the coolest photo as well as it being right next to a shot of his awesome. Hi, top, Nikes! The guys wore back in the day. Everything about that magazine is just such a great time capsule of just what the game was, but how we presented the game to fans who were of a young age like I was at the time. Tell me about one or two favorite baseball cards. You had grown up as a kid. I always told the story in the podcast before how my mom and nineteen seventy-three got me two packs of baseball cards. It was nine years old. And the first two players I ever looked at one was an infielder named Gary, Sutherland, in the other was Lee may of course play years and years in the big leagues. I what I didn't realize this was. Being a nine year old, and not really knowing about statistics, but that card had a weird era on it, and it was Lee may with his bat extended and I think it was Lee may hit Hit well in the nineteen seventy world series at the end of his bat. Clinton. The the batting average that was written into his bat was point zero zero zero. I was trying to make sense of that as a nine year old. Why are they celebrating? The fact that Lee may added zero. You didn't actually have celebrating that fact. But that was like emblazoned in my head until years later when I was covering the Orioles and I got to meet Lee May. That was always in the back of my mind for you. What were some baseball cards that you really liked the cards? I love best buster or the sets I can think of that had the best designs..

"Taylor, Schwenk Buster, only working for my home studio in New, York well the back and forth continues between Major League Baseball and the Players Association Jeff Passan's reporting the major league baseball is mulling a shorter season with full prorated salaries for players, so in other words Major League Baseball, saying you don't like the reduced salaries with more games and we'll just have fewer games. it's a remarkable series events that are taking place. It's not really negotiations at this point according Jeff Though Major League Baseball does not intend to propose this to the players, the possibility of implementing a schedule of around fifty games that would start in July has been considered by the League as a last resort in the event. The parties can't come to a deal. The players have held out for a full prorated portion of their. Their salaries based on a march twenty six agreement with the League and in an offer Sunday proposed a one hundred and fourteen game schedule that would cover seventy point. Three percent of their original salaries, Major League baseball with a fifty game schedule would cover thirty percent of that number so a huge gap there some other notes. The Washington nationals change course and told their minor leaguers on Monday they will receive their full weekly. Weekly stipends of four hundred dollars through June after Reliever Sean doolittle tweeted that the teams major league players would cover a planned cut in those payments and Major League baseball players continue to voice outrage and social media over George Floyd's death We heard the other day from Pete Alonso. Wherever you get your podcast? As a baseball analyst for ESPN and what that means these days Warto is getting really early to do k b. o broadcast from home of course of the the League in South Korea. How are you handling all this sort of the shakeup of Great Buster time that's all I know. I think I'm finally beating you to the wakeup. Call It's a three thirty three thirty with three snooze. by the time I, get up at three fifty one. have a seven minutes news instead of nine minute snooze going in so I know by three fifty one. I get up. Get in the shower by four zero five I am already turning on the system, making sure that everything's connected and then by four I have everything down. Let's put it this way. I make commend this breakfast for four games. And it's part of my pride and joy and routine to get ready for the. I see the whole snooze. Button thing I've never understood like. I I like and I think. Maybe it's because when I was growing up on the farm, the way I was woken up with my dad. We had a heat duct from the first four, the second store floor and he would stand underneath the heat duck at four, forty five, and and I just hear this buster. And Get up and you better get up right at that time, and so you know. When I went to school and classmates had You know this news, but I'd be like. What is that about? You Get up on the first one. It. I think it's more of a game with me there. There've been a couple times that I've got up before the alarms even run some Mike Okay. That's good, but I kind of struggle. A bit and I won't lie to you. When I go to sleep around twelve thirty and then I need to wake up at three thirty. It's a three three snoozing. You're out, and then there's a seven o'clock alarm that my wife has. That's on the Alexa that tells me that how how good I am just as a positive vibe. Just in case I did miss out on those three sneezes. And I know that that the breakfast the you make has the strongest coffee in the world. I don't I'm not drinking coffee. Drinking I'm not drinking coffee buster. That's crazy. I know I it was taken away from me. My I have a call on everything, so the more coffee I drink the more pressure I get, so the doctor took it away from me, and this is pure adrenaline that go on. Believe it or not. Man I remember when I went down to Puerto Rico for a couple of stories in in when you and I were sort of talking about because I would grab back. Down there. And you were like yeah, the coffee so great, and it's so strong. Oh Man! Probably about it I miss it, but but it's okay because. I waking up to baseball. Games so I look. And I feed the world. We're in right now and there's no high school baseball. There's no pro- professional baseball any level. There's no college baseball, so I looked out and I was like I just realized that at five thirty in the morning I can guarantee you. I'm be only baseball analyst working, so it's kind of fun. while. You're doing great. You're doing a great job with it and I can tell you know how much you're energized by getting watch baseball, because there is no baseball going on here, the two sides are talking about an agreement talking about getting baseball restarted, but it wouldn't. Even though there, there were hearing about offers being exchanged. It feels like there's no negotiating going on. That, it's each side restating its position in different ways, and it's sort of like well. Okay, You don't like this this proposal. We're just going to reshape it. move the numbers around a little bit. We'll throw it back at you, but they're. Doesn't seem to be any real collaboration going on the middle ground. What do you think? No. You know what's interesting. Is that the League's first proposal to the Union offered an eighty two game schedule. Right You know a significant salary cuts. We know that you know and and and a lot of multiple players. That told the that told us about about you know. They wouldn't abide to the to the shorter schedule at all, and with one actually even saying that we wanna play more gain, and you know we want more baseball, so they go out. They proposed one hundred fourteen gained schedule. Major League baseball comes back with fifty less than that, but then. I don't know about you but Mr. Mr Cantata Mrs Morale is to back. Teachers in high school taught me well. And the average of that is eighty two, so we go right back to eighty two YEP. And now I'm thinking okay, so the days I think will work back to maybe that number, but it's about the salary cut how the pay scale is going to be set. It's it's we've known all along. It's about the money We've already taken care of the time early on players getting their time, but now about the compensation factor of it all, and that's going to be the painful one, but at the end of the day -Buster. I really believe until there is a hard sec date where we can say by June tenth or June. Fifteenth WEENIE TO HAVE A. A deal done. If not no baseball, a deal will get done and I'm a I'm a guy who has a glass half full. I wasn't nineteen ninety four the player. Unfortunately, we did not have a world series that year we had replacement players come out and spring training I'm hoping this year this time because of the situation that our country is in the world is in that. We get baseball back on the field, Major League Baseball, and I believe that the players and the owners want what the fans want, and that's just the players on the field. You're one hundred percent right you read about when it's almost like baseball was like okay, you know when the initially talked about doing the fifty fifty revenue Split and that idea what was leaked out there wasn't formally proposed, but we initially heard back from the Union. That's not acceptable. And so then they made that proposals you said last week with severe cuts for the highest play players over eighty two games, and the players rejected that a gave the long game the long schedule, and now for the third time. It feels like the owners are saying okay. Here's the lump of cash that we have available. You can do it over fifty games. You can do it over eighty two games. You can do fifty fifty revenue split, but here's the lump cast that we're willing to split..

"In the baseball type PODCASTS pontiacs in from his home studio in Connecticut Taylor Schwenk on buster only in working from my own studio just north of New York City and Taylor had another episode to episode last dance last night. I did you see me on there. I was on there. Did you notice you work? I did not feel ashamed. Admitting that we're we're you I was on there. I told you I think I was at the press conference. When Jordan announced his first retirement right went into baseball. And I knew exactly where I was sitting in on so it was kind of looking like you know what aside there in the back of my head with his at that time still had all the hair intact very cool nice little little peak there in our Guy Tito Francona was on there and he was talking about things that he already talked about on the baseball tonight. Podcast which he had more time. He's stories to us a lot better than they were in the last dance for sure he got shortchanged and that was posted on Friday. If you want to go and find those Today we'll be talking with Chris. Antonetti the head of baseball operations the Cleveland Indians. And he's got stories about how the Blockbuster Trade for Andrew Miller in two thousand sixteen came together in a bad game seven of the world series including a major league baseball suggestion that both and Theo Epstein were very much against that night but first a few notes official Major League Baseball will cut its two dozen. Twenty draft to five rounds is owners looking to save costs in the wake of the corona virus. A push for fewer rounds over the objection of Front office officials is according to sources who spoke with our Jeff Passan Kylie mcdaniel. The plan which had had been relayed to scouting directors will allow teams to sign an unlimited number of drafted players for a maximum of twenty thousand dollars. A draft is expected to begin on June tenth. We'll be talking with Kylie mcdaniel about all that on the podcast on Tuesday. Our friend Jesse Rogers wrote over the weekend players believed that the risk of a return will be inherent due to the ongoing issues related to the pandemic and compensation should account for that the quote from Yankees Catcher and executive board member. Chris I and etta it goes back to not having fans in the stands. There's no fans in the stands. There is an intrinsic risks. That players are going to undertake. There is an intrinsic risks. That support staff and coaches are going to on support staff and coaches are going to undertake and we should get fairly compensated for taking that risk for the betterment of the game yes they could put a plan together but the players the owners have to agree on compensation and they are entrenched. Japanese baseball hopes to start their season in June. We'll get more information about that in the days ahead and I gotTa say if they're struggling to protect people in the White House. I don't know how they protect two thousand baseball players and staffers Taylor. You saw the news in recent days about people in the White House are testing positive where people get tested more than certainly just about any place else in this country yet. It's it's pretty interesting that I mean throughout all the I mean I feel like we're at such a weird place in this country where it's like. Are we going back to normal? Are we not in the place where they need to make these decisions? They can't keep those folks safe. So what are they gonNa do with these players? Some chatter from I do a golf podcast as well and You know the word on the street with the golfers you know. They're they're ready to take the risks so I wonder if baseball players just kind of feel the same. They're just like we. Just gotTa do it. We just gotTa get back to work in and give it a shot. I don't know how much weight that kind of general opinion will hold when they're making this decision but It's pretty interesting to see how it's all GonNa play out for sure. Yeah I'd say this a lot fewer golfers than baseball players like you know it would be hard to get an absolute Consensus to that And some something that. I think. Every player would participate in. But we'll have to wait and see we're going to get more information on that as the week goes ahead before we get to grow cyanide and be sure to listen to jalen. Jacoby the after. Show the recapping episode seven and eight of the last dance with director Jason Hare. We finally got some baseball talking episode. Seven which we just reverend sewers..

"Producing from his home studio in Connecticut. Taylor Schwenk buster only working from my home studio. He just north of New York City Taylor. I remember early on during the lockdown. That you were every Friday every Saturday. You're taking a long drive. You still doing that now. That we're more than a month into this. The drives have dried up in the last two weekends. We might go for one this coming up next weekend but I'll pull back the curtain a little bit. My wife and I are two consecutive weekends to different people We've done these like zoom murder mystery parties which are a lot of fun. Actually I know that people do them face to face in real life. But we've gotten a little creative here and if you guys are looking to do something like that I would highly recommend it. It's fun to dress up a little bit. You know we did a twenty s era one and a seventy era once we made some different cocktails for it and My first time I wasn't really sure what to expect and I enjoyed it quite a bit. So that's taken over the drives a little bit so that's your recommendation. Mine is digging up. Dandelions which has become an obsession for me. Because you know because I'm home I've made up my mind. I'm going to have the best lawn in my neighborhoods and so over the weekend. My fifteen year old son who certainly has moments. When he doesn't like me very much. This weekend I assign him digging up two hundred dandelions. I dug up that many myself. We are on a hunt for Dandelions at our place. Is that sound. Like Fun Taylor It sounds like a negative fund. But where do you think you are on your quest to have the best looking lawn in the neighborhood like are you like seventy five percent of the way there or where where do you stand? Doodo mobster good start like my lawn is looking really good like I cut around the edges. All the things in the past where I get back from Sunday night baseball and Monday and I'd be tired and I'd see some clipping that I need to do and I wouldn't do it now. Like up at five in the morning just dying for that. I like to get out and do it so trying to make the best of it so you got you know. Murder Mystery Zoom. I've got dandelions it's all what whatever you need to get through it. It's it's dragging on here so you gotta you gotTa take what you can get there. You go well this is contributors week. Folks who helped the sport of baseball not necessarily as players managers are front optics executives. And we'll start with Bob Kendrick. Who is the President of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City? In Alaska who he thinks is the greatest player of all time. We'll hear from Sarah Lines as well. I The news and notes retired Los Angeles dodgers broadcaster. Been scully's back home. After falling and being hospitalized the team quoted scully in twitter Saturday saying home and resting comfortably with my wife and we are both eagerly awaiting the time for dodger baseball. I almost can't say without trying to imitate. I'm not GONNA do that. The Cape Cod Baseball League. Renounce Summer League for top college stars cancelled. Its Two thousand twenty season due to the corona virus pandemic. It announced on Friday. The Cleveland Indians will pay regular salaries to full-time employees through June thirtieth. Left-hander was said to have been dubbed the fastest pitcher in baseball history. By Ted Williams died this week in new Britain Connecticut. He was eight years old. Before we get to Sarah into Bob. Don't forget about Jalen and Jacoby. The after show the guys are recapping episodes. Three and four of the last dance. The shows went up right after the last dance aired. And they'll continue doing that throughout the run of this Docu series Jalen and Jacoby. The after show is brought to you by State Farm and at and T. You can find it wherever you get your podcasts numbers game. They're laying say reporter producer for MLB DOT COM. And Sarah in a moment. We're GONNA be talking about Kendrick head of the Negro Leagues Museum in Baseball Museum in Kansas City. And so Sarah what I sent you an email over the weekend saying you know what? I'm curious about your perspective on who or the Five Best Negro Leagues players of all time. How would you rank them? Starting with number five. Yeah so I love looking into this and I love thinking about this because you know this is an area of baseball history that we don't know quite as much about and I know I personally have learned a lot about maybe over the last ten years or so but I feel like I'm always learning more and more about these players in reading more of these legends so it was a great great opportunity to dig back into this and I love it so my number five is Oscar Charleston. And you know they're so many great comparisons when you read about these players. Everybody is compared to some absolute legend and the one that I have for Oscar Charleston. Buck O'Neil said. He was the greatest player that he ever saw. He was compared to tie Cobb interest speaker and he was considered the Negro National in Israel. I real- superstar back in nineteen twenty and he could hit close to four hundred played a great outfield. Iran. Base while and Satchel page side. You have to see him to believe him anyway. And so the hall of fame in Nineteen Seventy six and of course buck. O'neil was a longtime first baseman and a manager and he we scout. He's got it later in life. There's actually an award at the hall of fame given every year now That's name for Buck O'Neil. Whose NUMBER FOUR. So number four. I've got cool Papa. Bell you know legendary speed one story. I saw said that he went from home home. In twelve seconds which is really fun. You know we can actually contextualized that now whether or not it's true we don't know but you know the fact that people thought that was true. I mean that's right there with the fastest home-to-home times who see on home runs you know now a stack cast so and he taught. Lubar have a steel basis. I think that almost tells you all you need to know in humans. The Hall of fame in Nineteen Seventy four and cool papa. Bell of course. The great story about said tongue in cheek was that he was so fast when he turned off the lights which he'd be back under the covers before the late actually went out. Who's number three so number? Three is Buck Leonard. He was the homestead grays first base for seventeen years which made him the longest tenure player with one team in the entire history of the Negro Leagues. He Josh Gibson were outstanding. Duo led the team to nine Negro nationally pennants and five world series. Aaron says and he went to the hall of fame in Nineteen. Seventy two number. Two number. Two is Josh Gibson so dizzy Dean called him. One of the best that he ever saw it for a ton of power. The legends are absolutely incredible. They talk about five hundred foot home runs and maybe he hit nine. Hundred home runs in his career. We don't know you know for sure. But he certainly was. You know an absolute outstanding catcher an outstanding a power hitter and he wins the hall of fame in Nineteen. Seventy two as well number one all time. So Am I number one. I have sexual page. I'm not sure that he was the absolute best player in the history of the Negro Leagues. But I think he is certainly the most famous on so I was sort of going back and forth between him Gibson whose number one number two I ended up with Satchel page number one. He was the first to go into the hall of fame. He's the most associated with the league. I think a lot of ways and you know a lot of people thought he was the greatest pitcher whoever left and I want to ask you about the greatest player of all time in any league for me. It's always been willie. Mays who to me? He did so many things well he was fast. He could play defense. He hit for power. He won the Most Valuable Player in the National League. A couple of times Led the League in a home runs multiple times. He won a batting title in One Thousand. Nine hundred fifty four. It's six hundred. Sixty homers had three thousand two hundred eighty three hits scored over two thousand runs in his career. That would be my pick for greatest player of all time. How about you? Yeah I mean I you. I have talked about many times on here. My mother grew up a huge giant. Stand a huge giant fan. Let's hear about Willie mays since I you know basically couldn't talk yet and I've always always default to him but I will say that you know as I learn more and more about these Negro Leagues players. I mean I do think that you know there are so many players who you hear that you know could have been the greatest of all time or would have been considered the greatest of all time in major league history. Had they gotten the chance to play their gotten a chance to play. They're in their prime. So I think that there certainly are You know other considerations to take but I always go slowly mace yes. Some people would argue Babe Ruth. Some people would argue Henry Aaron. I'm going to put that question of Bob in just a moment. Sarah thanks for doing this. Always great to talk with you. Basis for having me investor. Kendrick is President of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City. Missouri and Bob. Thanks for joining us. Sit at time when everybody's looking for distraction and I know you've got a lot of stories always exciting for me because I'm looking forward to those same distracting about these baseball and baseball history because the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum like everybody else has been so greatly impacted by the health situation that we're currently.

"It's doing the podcast and talking baseball and with you a particular this year. We've been talking about ballparks. Every week you presenting a ballpark up for discussion We've talked about The ballpark in Washington. We've talked about city field and this week. We're staying that Ashley. Gay Citizens Bank Park which I've always felt like todd is a very underrated park. Yeah it's an interesting discussion. Buster because it dovetails with that of city field from a couple of weeks ago. How do you create a sense of place in the middle of a parking lot far removed from any? You know touch point of the city and I've always liked citizens bank park. I got a couple of things that I pulled out first of all. I was amazed to see it is the dean of East Stadium. Opened in two thousand four own ballpark in the NFL crazy I do love the fact that you can walk around everywhere. I love the idea of tiered bullpens. It makes it kind of a signature thing. I really enjoy Ashburn alley out there. There's a lot of the lease history Debbie found as you stroll around the park. You GET CHEESE. Steaks got brick. You know it looks Philadelphia esque. Oh Yeah I love going there and getting a cheese steak my favorite thing that again because you know my job is reported takes me to different places. The thing that I loved to go there and forgive me for being a known old Vermont farmer. But that's the only ballpark where they have a groundskeeper. I believe this to be the case. The only ballpark where there's a groundskeeper. Who drags the infield every day with a bed of nails is named Jeff Right and he has an absolute the Infield is absolutely beautiful in pristine and he literally drags by hand the bed nails around the infield and he he's very loquacious. We had a great conversation remember last year and he mentioned that he'd gotten compliments. The Enfield looks great and I said you know what kind of reaction you get from players that you do this in such a meticulous style and he said you know different guy. Michael Young said something to me and I. I texted Michael Young and asked him. He said yeah that infield tremendous Lucasville hats off to write the most beautiful infield in baseball. We need video of that. All of the starts up again. Buster because I've never noticed that being there and now I will never forget it. But that's the kind of content. We all need going forward real real quick as we've been doing. I would be remiss if I did not throw a veteran stadium out there. What are your brief memories there? Buster and Youtube. I couldn't get a cab. I remember being there to like two thirty in the morning waiting for a cab to come out and get me. I was too stupid to not have arranged travel ahead of time back when I was covering the padres in ninety three and ninety four. I'm sitting by security. We need for cabinet. GonNa get me. It's Ed Ballpark. Look and that that place. I think I covered The NFL there to cover a football game there. When I covered the giants for one year and they play the eagles. I mean that was just the the old classic late sixties multi-purpose place. Yes yeah I mean you know the donut? The concrete dona with the seats are awful. Mine memory of that place and I was there many many times being there for game. Four of the one thousand nine hundred ninety three world series sitting up in the seven hundred seats all the way out up in the nosebleeds Phillies Blue Jays phillies blow this lead and lose the game fifty two fourteen and that was I believe you know I think. That's the angriest group of people I've ever been around in my life. Well that and that probably was true at the beginning of the game. Yes well you know once a beer kicked in and and all of that but you know citizens bank park has a little bit of a different stink on it. Because of the two thousand nine world series and to a lesser extent hosting or two thousand eight and two thousand nine so You know things flipped around down there right before we get into this week's quiz you've been having fun posting on. Social Media. Pictures of Ballpark. Yes yes and see here buster and Taylor. This is you know like like everyone. We're We're in our house. Where like cleaning things out and I've got all photos that I took from traveling around the ballparks in the eighties nineties and I'm looking at these things and boy you know it is. It is just amazing and Every couple of days I'll put something different I upset some people with some images of the wrecking of Comiskey Park back in the early nineties. We'll keep things moving there but It's always fun looking at that stuff. Now it's funny. You mentioned that because we just heard heard from Jason Grimsley the great story the Great Court Bat Caper. So it's appropriate that You mentioned that all right. Let's get to this week's quiz arguments for the opening day that we did not have this. Us President throughout not one but two ceremonial first pitches to start the season. One lefty and one writer who was it was it Richard Nixon Calvin coolidge Gerald Ford. Or Harry Truman the lefty and Righty Bom Bom Nixon Coolidge board or Truman. Kelly wanted to give it a shot. Totally blind guests here. But let's go truman. I'M GONNA go with Calvin coolidge fellow. Vermonter well Taylor gets the win here because in one thousand nine hundred fifty Washington senators home opener against the Philadelphia. Athletics Lefty Radio Boom Boom. But here's a good footnote. Gerald Ford repeated the feat at the one thousand nine hundred seventy six all star game at the vet in Philadelphia. So it all comes full circle see. I'm bitter now in a very angry David McCullough the premium the preeminent historian in American history. I was just listening to it was audio book of Harry Truman. Okay and what I remember hearing for Mr McCullough is that Harry Truman because he had such terrible eyesight was not very good with ball sports. So the idea that Harry Truman is going to be the ambidextrous president. I'm very bitter. It was misleading. Pass Mr Mukalla Book Buster and I don't recall anything about nineteen fifty opening day at the Washington senators in there. You know. Listen maybe you can have long hair and we can. We can figure this all out there. We go all right. I WanNa get inside Taylor. With the wind bleacher tweets already buster real quick before we get to bleacher tweets. I want to promote another podcast. It is courtside with Greenberg and dockage. I produce that show as well Spent a good amount of time on yesterday so just wanted to highlight it for the listeners. And if I can make my pitcher in baseball the night. Podcast amazing guests. There's no doubt about it but if I can make a cross sport comparison here it's got to be courtside. Greenberg dockage because yesterday. The coach whisper in America's broadcaster. They dropped new episode. We were talking to Jay writes. Villanova's head coach and Tom Izzo Michigan State's head coach. They got into how Jay and Tom Found out the conference tournaments and the NCAA tournament were cancelled. Which is just crazy how their players took it. Jay Wright was in the middle of a press conference in a reporter. Just hand him his vote. It's it's a really wild story in. It's an interesting thing. Mean all these sports. It's kind of like what do we do next. I think college sports in particular are interesting. Because they have these rotating roster so it's a good listen. They talk about what they've been up to while social distancing. You know buster on here. He cracks guess open like eggs. It's it's remarkable and these guys do the same so check it out courtside with Greenberg and dockage find it wherever you get your podcast. Let's go to the tweets another one here from our pal Mitchell at tigers underscore of underscored D. E. T. He writes in despite playing less than half a season for Boston. New York Dave Roberts and Aaron. Boone may be some of the most remembered for those teams because of their economic October moments. Are there any other players who fit that mold now? Before answer that question a Taylor was going to say. It's incredible. How many great baseball fans are among basketball coaches? You know in for example And then I did a book on one of these Don Meyer Legendary basketball coach at lipscomb university at Northern State University in Aberdeen South Dakota. They're into baseball. Show much and so it doesn't you know. I bet you. That among the coaches you talked I know Steph and Dan where we're always big in baseball conversation. Where when we're waiting around in the Green Room in Bristol Ho? Yeah yes seth. Your guy likes his Yankees Dan. I don't know who you root for but I know he's definitely big baseball guy you know. He's carved Yeah yeah he's he's a big cubs. Go right to answer the question. Yeah I think there are other players Bucky DENT CERTAINLY COMES TO MIND. Al Weis One Thousand. Nine hundred eighty nine mets ron about sixty nine minutes and I thought about this when Madison. Bumgarner is an excellent regular season pitcher. He's been an all star but let's face it. His legend is built upon what he did. Not Tober Jeff. Pretty remarkable stuff. This question comes from bleacher twitter By the name of Charles. Taylor's wink wink as you sat around on opening day yesterday and thought about how you should have been. Houston what did you think about that? You really missed about covering that game. Maybe any general but like what did you miss about opening day in particular as you sat around yesterday. I you know I love opening day for the hope that it brings among the players. And everyone's very excited he had going. There's some butterflies and opening day for players. Know no matter how many years that they've been in it. I am told this story. A number of on a number of radio shows how I love writing in the scorebook for the first time writing down the names. That's a cool thing but as I said the todd in conversation boy I you know I just want people to be okay. I just want people to be healthy and so I kind of set all those feelings aside yesterday how you yeah I personally. I missed that no surprise but going down near around nats park around Kim Yard. Just that that buzz around the stadium that you get on opening day. It's it's really like a Weird Cultural Adrenalin Rush. That you get and it's you know it's very unique. You only really get that one day a year you know. I first game the football season. Yeah. There's definitely a buzz but I feel like these. These baseball teams are much more woven into the fabric of the city's so I would say that that pre-game buzz they're both the spiritual and the physical one that you can imbibe in but that's that's what I missed one hundred percent. I agree with you all right. That does it for Bleacher tweets. Subscriber interview to the PODCAST. Wherever you get it and if you missed our interviews we had Dave Roberts. Bill Ripken Shane. Victorino and Aaron Boone. So check all those out if you miss them and then we got some fun. Sign up for next week including Darrell Strawberry. That'll be a good one. Yeah it'd be a good one and I have like a at my holy grail. I am pursuing right now. Not GonNa tell you what as but man if we get this one that that might be the absolute one. We've had great one. So far like these interviews have been so much fun to conduct into research in and do the background on. But I'm telling you Taylor I'm not gonNA try to hype this up too much but I'm I probably GonNa Overdo it. This one would be unbelievable by can land it. So we'll see what happens. I think that's where we are physically a port Charlotte. I don't know where the city line is. But she hear in the background. The sounds of spring training. You got some birds. You got some done dear machinery you got some sprinklers. Going off behind me. It's all glory right now here in camp. What do you think I mean? Those bird sounds are really getting to me right now because it is so cold in Connecticut and there are no. They're no birds. Sounds up here and also we were talking before we hopped on the air in. I was like Oh yeah. This really brings the ambiance but as soon as those birds started chirping. That really like hit me in a soft spot down inside of me. Yeah the last four or five years. When when Josh was running the show he actually would inject the sounds of birds and people want to hear the sounds of birds and spring training. And so you're gonna hear the sounds of birds here. It raised camp today now. Obviously a lot of storylines involving teams like the rays have been completely overshadowed by what's going on with the Houston Astros Spring we Carlos Gray the Astros punchbag and cody bellinger. The other day. And it's clear that the Astros are frustrated by the drumbeat of criticism player said to her. Jeff Passan. When does it stop but on Monday? "So much as they've just been on the periphery of the conversation because they haven't played someone who has truly been at the same talent level them so we haven't gotten to see. How does this? This year's Clemson team respond when they are not getting off the bus as the better team. And so I think that's a reasonable critique of this team because we don't know and I think if you're going to beat Ohio state if you're going to slow down Justin feel he has to be your pass rush and as good. This clemson has been defensively this year. Statistically they're better than they were last year we haven't seen them truly challenged upfront. And it's not the same guy. It's not Christian Wilkins. It's not Cleland Farrell. It's not extra Lawrence it's not Austin Bryant. These are are certainly talented guys. Be Guys who have not faced the same type of challenge before and I think the big ten championship game is a perfect example of Wisconsin dot after the quarterback in the first half and had a lot of success. Justin fields wasn't under pressure. Sure in the second half and that's when the game changed Clemson has to be able to rattle justin fields has to be able to disrupt Ohio state. Wants to do offensively and quite frankly I think that's a looming question because we have not seen Clemson in a game where that was going to be even a remote challenge for them so far this year and the one thing on the other I saw that they have is the firepower when you look at Lawrence e. t. n. and the the wide receivers The last six games for Trevor Lawrence obviously Beginning of the ear. One of the big story lines were the picks last six games twenty touchdowns no picks what do you think was the difference There are some theories about injury injury and maybe he was nursing something. If you say that around Dabble loud enough a good luck he will Will make sure that you cover clubs that again. I'm saying that jokingly lately but He will let you have it. He will light you up because he's going to defend his quarterback and now make excuses. But what did you see a from Trevor Lawrence events from the first half of the season of the second half of the season as you covered the team. I think it was probably a combination of a few things I. I don't think that there was this massive injury that was causing real problems. Because I saw and make enough of those throws that you think no other quarterback in college football is making that through but I also wonder if he was justified. Extinct up enough that making those throws was a thing he could really wind up and do two or three times a game but not ten or eleven times a game and so there was a a little bit of maybe working through that I think a lot of it though was just a guy who's going into his sophomore year coming off one of the truly most Oh successful freshman campaigns anyone's ever had in college football position with all the hype and all the attention and coming in and saying okay. I'm Superman I gotta I gotTa be Superman and trying to do some things that he shouldn't have done. And if you look back and number eight picks is certainly a number that that looks gaudy and bad or the stats sheet but if you watch the actual plays that he threw those interceptions. It was just some bad decision. Making really wasn't like the mechanics were bad or Are really off off line grow. It was just some poor decision making and if you're lawrence then you know that you can do better than I think. That's what we've seen. I think we've seen him play smarter football in the second half. I think we've seen him realize that. Hey I got I got this Guy Travis. Et End in the backfield. Who's WHO's pretty darn good too into football? If I don't see something I like more. Why don't I pick up and run a little bit more when she's done a great job of this year When when a place it really developing Downfield I think it was just him wanting to kind of be the hero with every throw in the early season and as the season progressed? He realized. I don't need I don't need to do that to be good. And that's shown up on statute but that's the way David final question here. And I think it's a relevant question. Down the road as we see Clemson's dominance and wonder about Miami and the future Florida State is and we've seen the rotation the full circle the coastal Who is the closest team? You think to give Clemson around the ACC good question because talent wise. I think you'd probably point to Florida state and say look at a team that is bringing in the most blue-chip guys comparatively that distribution the blue-chip guys hasn't been what what it needs to be. So they've had some positions like the offensive line has just been a trainwreck and they need to get better in those areas and and the production of those blue chip guys has not been great. I think they went into the season. You would've said on paper one of the best defense of wind in the ACC if not in the country and it just didn't they didn't play like that this year so it's a little bit of both things Florida state but I like Mike novell. He's I think he's clearly show that that offensively he can be a real program. Builder are and and he's got the pieces to play with their now. I don't know how you take a team. That has won eleven games in two years and turn them into a team that is going to compete NPR Clemson in two thousand twenty. But I at least think there's enough pieces there that with the right coaching and the right approach that they can be more competitive certainly than they have been. But I mean you can make the case Look Louisville has certainly been on the upswing and is a fun team to watch and and maybe Scott Satterfield gets them and then Clawson's done wonderful things that wake forest but we I never going to have the same type of talent or athletes that Clemson does at this point it really. It's hard to make bake a case without really stretching the logic to say somebody is gonNA put a still Trevor Lawrence led Clinton team in twenty twenty. It's just it's a hard thing to say right. Yeah it is and We'd touch base on it and you just hope a guy like You Know Smack Brown and Sam how maybe in two years right. We'll see how that plays out As he develops him. Max Probably going to have a pretty big day here when it comes to recruiting the biggest keys Fence he's trying to build around North Carolina to avoid Georgia as well as Clemson. I'm from rating all the talent there. you know David. This is great. I appreciate you joining US breaking it down getting US ready for the bowl season. I know you're gonNA enjoy all forty games. A A handful of ones we've sorted out if you got a question for her to go to twitter Hashtag. CFP POD ask away. The best questions will make the podcast which Taylor sorts out in the coming weeks here This is coming from bent zero What more does Travis? ETA need to get into the heisman. Conversation I I I I believe that. First of all the heisman discussion. At this point I hate to say that it that it's over but Joe Borough at this point it has done everything in his power to be a dominant player and to be a guy that is very deserving of winning the heisman. It's it's not. Let's hope he doesn't ever get injured but unless he just lays an egg and just has one of those games where he has an all year and he's thrown interceptions. And you know what the heck is going on with with Joe Borough in this offense. I just don't know if there's anything that can open up the door for Travis. ETA Ta. He's had a great year. Statistically if you look at what he's done is I three years. This year has been ridiculous with his ability to run the football football. I think he's gotten more powerful. He's averaging nine yards a carry so he's had a monster year. Problem is Jonathan Taylor out. There is a great year Wisconsin. JK Dobbins in Ohio state has had a great year the Andrea Swift at Georgia. So it's a great year for backs. A lot of these guys are all true juniors but eighteen not n because of the competition because the lack of the the big stage moment I think right now. He's on he's on the outside looking in but very very deserving in recognition and obviously very talented back. I'm with you. We were talking about this on Saturday while we're watching all the games and how great rate You can name off the top of your head at least five six backs that you could see playing on Sundays. Just yeah so the talent that they have and they're at major programs. And you mentioned inch Jonathan Taylor so another question that we've got here. What's going to be the difference? Saturday in your mind in. Minneapolis between Minnesota and Wisconsin Man. I first of all. I can't wait college game days heading up there. We cannot wait to get there. We missed the first time. Remember when. PJ flack was saying y'all go to LSU Alabama Obama anytime get up here and watch this Penn state game and we wanted to be there but it was. It was a big game. Obviously that week in Tuscaloosa now we get a chance needs to come up for even bigger stakes with the winner going to the big ten championship. You Know Wisconsin obviously own this rivalry. I think it was fourteen straight until Jill. Minnesota went to Madison and upset the badgers last year. So after fourteen straight they own they possess the axe and now now we get a chance to see so much at stake for both teams not one but the winner goes to Indianapolis so I think Wisconsin's defense has been very very good good for the most part all year. How they go up against these playmakers? And Tanner Morgan. I think we'll probably go a long way. In determining how this game goes. Can they create eight some turnovers. Can they hold up. Prevent big play. If you've not seen Minnesota play this year boy they are loaded in the backfield led by Rodney Smith. Great playmakers on the outside Tyler. Johnson can make plays show Bateman can make plays. They're just loaded and they got a quarterback that right now making good decisions so Wisconsin and I think that got to stop the run game and they gotta get pressure to try to get Tanner Morgan out of his rhythm that he's been playing with and then on the other side. If I'm with Minnesota Snow it's going to be cold. I would load up on that running game. Jonathon Taylor forced the badgers have to prove that they can throw the ball in those conditions on the road. I'd put ten guys. It's a line of scrimmage. Everybody geared in to stop. Taylor make the badgers throw to win and and see if they can get it. Done you ten guys all man and obviously everybody up there everybody. No Man Rated Environment Mad again rate environment for Game Day and so much at stake before we get to that game specifically. Let's get to the priorities here on Thursday. What's the desert at the her shirt household? It is it. Is it Apple Pie. Pumpkin Pie. Where where do we lean when we talk about the desserts? The desserts birt's are a combination of a bunch of different things. I the main prize. My mom makes kind of an apple crisp. Oh that's warm and throw some ice cream penelas cream on top of it and it's ridiculous. Yeah so that would be. That would be my my my thing that I look forward to the most I I the Pumpkin pie deal. I kinda take it or leave it. I'm not I'm not like oh it's awful. Sometimes I like it. It's warm I you know. I like it if it's homemade. I like it with the little whip cream. I talked about the Egg Bowl Mississippi. He stayed in old. I got introduced to P. Con pie down there and again into rated. If pecan pies warm all about it you know I. I love all of that. So they'll be a variety of things that my wife in relatives will come up with well and joy for all of us. Obviously I'm going to be digging in with our family here joint as well. I didn't even ask me about you. Turkey what's your deal with the course. Yeah we're Turkey family and then like sometimes my my wife will go hand show have him on the side okay. It just depends but we're a Turkey family and then for sure Christmas time the Ham comes out okay and of course Easter. The hand comes out because her family she host host we we host Christmas with her family. my family comes up for Thanksgiving. So we've we we equal it a here because then the kids get hit the chance to spend time with everybody many logo. We go all out to me. Thanksgiving's my favorite holiday of the year. It's always been just because if you had that that I that I sit down around like two thirty. Three o'clock he got football in the background. You're eating and then you can come back six o'clock for that that second. NFL game aim right of it. And then you're ready to go and then the nightcap you're watching the final final NFL Game and all you're doing housing all the desert. That's leftover. aww That's how I view things that's great man that is that is perfect. A well I I. I'M A. I'm a simple Thanksgiving Guy Turkey a gravy as big a mashed potato mound. You can create you know. Throw some stuffing in there. It just kinda mix it all up and then I just dip with the gravy. I just dip the Turkey into the concoction that I've made that's mixed in with with like I said mashed potatoes Kinda based but there's a lot of different things. It's it's kind of mixed into that so but I keep it. I keep it relatively simple but I I I love Turkey and mashed potatoes and gravy. Like it's kind of I formation of of Thanksgiving meals for me for and I will. I will add this one final thought for me. The real cranberry not the cranberry in a canned berry. And I'm a sucker for the roles. All US us. My wife went grocery shopping yesterday and the first thing I looked at it I could care less about everything else. I know you're going to make everything. Great Yeah kind rolls. The we have they sure Thursdays right so true my mom makes what she calls. Poppy seed rolls and their homemade. She makes boll she makes dough and the kids get involved all and all that and and they come out. They're really small like the size of Super Bowl and forget it. I mean it's that's my kids will just eat fifteen eighteen or twenty of those guys you got you gotta eat the Turkey. You can't just eat the just thrown right into their mouth. You know one after another. Yeah there were with you on that we love. We love the roles of good stuff our best to the family. We hope everybody. That's listening has a great Thanksgiving as well absolutely. Thanks for joining us to get his thoughts on the weekends. Biggest storylines love. Is Woody and Bo store. Upper the official drink of Fans Ville. And Hey while you're at it don't be afraid to go for two in Denver are questions here for Herbie from our listeners. He's on he's on the outside looking in but very very deserving correct ignition and obviously very talented back. So after fourteen straight they own they possess the axe and now now we get a chance to see so much stake for both teams not one but the winner goes to Indianapolis so I think Wisconsin's defense has been very very good good for the most part all year. That's listening has a great Thanksgiving as well. "But college football podcast with Herbie and polly now here's your host Kevin Godley okay overall the matchups haven't been great but three straight weeks twenty plus point dogs they've beaten a top ten team and it actually shapes up a lot of stuff for us as we round out October get into November and all all those key matchups cannot wait to talk to Kirk herbstreit about his experiences of with Game Day moving forward also I got a really big question about where game days the side of each and every weekend questions for Herbie for our listeners coming your way also want to remind you we've got a new way if you WANNA ask herbstreet equation Shen go to twitter Hashtag CFP pod and that's where you can ask herbstreet a question what we'll do is we'll round out the best questions Taylor Schwenk a producer on the other side will round those questions up every Monday at the end of the podcast will get to those questions for Herbstreet your questions will give you the answers to the just once once again Hashtag. CF pod and great to have cursory with us here every Monday what was South Dakota like that experience Irby very cool very cool you know we talked last week about when we get a chance to go into the F. C. S. and how you know you go in to the weekend wondering what might be like and then you come out of it it was awesome and of course Pat McAfee joined us as our celebrity picker who stepped in Adam Terry who's GonNa Lomb and just hit it out of the park we had a lot of fun with him and the scene there every week we get done with a game day and we are on the set they're just kinda shaking each other's hands like you know how much fun we had and man that that might have been the best crowd we've had a long time then the next week we go somewhere it's like van that might have been the best crowd we've ever had so we've had we've had a lot of fun this year are too great mix and that's the cool thing about is you know you cover all the sports but you I know you specialize in in college football with your studio show Oh this sport really never gets old because the story lines constantly change and new players come in and the energy and the emotion and the passion every single week it just for me I just doesn't get old I love it every week I'm with you nothing can touch it but the my biggest question watching the entire Armand Experience there is how many push ups McAfee do before before you guys came out with him segment because clearly when you're trying to show the gun show out there and that environment McAfee has got to be doing what ten twenty pushups yeah yeah you know that's his that's as he says for the brand his brand is is in any course even set Zeiss outfit you know and it's like a coach that's how he rolls man that's that's his look you know no matter what shirt or sweatshirt he's GonNa he's GonNa take this leaves off dude is just full of energy I've been talking to him for a while about one day we're going to have you on as as a celebrity picker and and he's just one of those guys it's just naturally entertaining and funny I just he just it's the way he's wired and hopefully we'll see more of him you know he's he's he's over to espn he does the Thursday night games and I think he could be a superstar in studio yeah we're seeing a little bit of a get a little taste of it the energy every time he's on what he's talking about that and and you mentioned it a little bit there quickly about the energy and the environment every time you guys go somewhere especially somewhere new and let's talk a little bit about this I want to get your background because I don't even know I've been around where I've heard inklings about hey hey I remember several years ago you know things had to line up a few weeks prior for temple the Hosta named for Game Day to be there they were like just hey you guys just keep on winning the way the schedule looks but when it comes to a game they decision like P J fleck I mean he made a case that undefeated Minnesota should be the host on November ninth when undefeated Penn state comes to tell Minnesota's never hosted a game eh is explanation is about Game Day being unique and selling stories and every week Game Day could go to Lsu and Alabama and then you guys have that Great Video with you fowler in the bear was brief but about going to Memphis next weekend as they host Smu so what goes into like this decision on where you guys go how much the crew involved in that decision as well as a great question a couple of things number one being on the show for for twenty four years I thankfully I get to at least participate and listen in on what they're thinking about and a lot of times they'll ask me just for for my take probably they'll ask therese for his take and at the end of the day executives make the decision but it is cold it they they encourage us to offer our our input and you know we might think show needs to go here at the end of the day they they decided to show goes there you know so that's their call but like right now we're we're Ping this in in doing this on a Monday morning and it's very unusual unless something's happened in the last thirty minutes that I'm not aware of they're still a lot of people been reaching out to me through through twitter saying is game day coming to the cocktail party down in Jacksonville number six against number aid and I I haven't heard it anything as we stayed are typically Sunday morning even Saturday night I'll get a tax you know during the game I'm calling hey you guys announced game days going wherever and so we'll just would mentioned during the game and usually Sunday morning at the latest you'll get an email or attacks that says hey listen we're games going I've got I've got nothing right now I think we're going to memphis because SMU's such an incredible story and Memphis has having a magical years well in the American and I think we're going there don't know and and so this is kind of an interesting question the timing of this question because it's the first time since I've been on the show for twenty four years that were Monday I still have no idea where I'm going pauling the game center ABC but You know with in Memphis but I don't know game days going and for people who say why why can't it go to number six number eight that's a no brainer normally if that came on campus it would be a no brainer if it were in Athens or Gainesville obvious that's the that's the spot we have not had a lot of luck going to these neutral site NFL stadium parking lot shows it just takes away from just what we think game day should be we went there last year it was kind of a you know it was okay it wasn't like whoa that was awesome can't wait to get back did this now the game is in the atmosphere around the weekend is great but you know you get into an NFL parking lot at a stadium it's just Blah that's what hurts that game those neutral site games to the Oh you Texas game is unique just because of the setting at the state fair but yeah that that's kind of how it happens all all for some feedback to some of the guys that make the decisions and and a lot of times they'll agree sometimes they won't and they make the Decision Fan but game day doesn't just go we try to go to the game of the week when it's an obvious situation but also you know they take into consideration like if we ended up going Memphis and you've got undefeated SMU WHO's ranked this year and having a year that they haven't had since Eric Dickerson was there and you've got memphis whose who's got a great coach and a great program and a great story in their own right and a fun city you Magic Game Day shows up in Memphis what that would be awesome maybe it'd be on at the end of the day Kevin Worry we're pre game show and people tune into our show and you see thousands of people screaming and tailgating we were kind of symbolic of what's happening all over the country at their own tailgate you know their own setting wherever they happen to be hopefully when they tune into game day they kind of feel that vibe wherever we are and I think if we end up going to Memphis I think we'll have a historic Doc show I think it'll be incredible just like UCF last year was one that we all remember because of the setting and how many people ended up showing up at the show well things play into this to you you brought up now if you're a NFL stadium and I just think about Fort Worth and what you guys have to deal with Jerry's world where you guys are in that town and then I'd still ways away from the stadium so you're you're losing the ambiance you're losing to setting right now and they're a lot of their a lot of logistics things have to happen for you guys to go somewhere you guys have to make sure that if you're doing it in the city if you're doing it in an environment that everything is cleared at everything when it comes this like when we went to the Philly by the way that ended up being an incredible setting but we weren't anywhere close I don't believe the university you weren't or close to you know obviously where they played the game but the powers that be in our director Rodney who who comes up with you know makes a lot of the the effort new travelling and trying to in the city was involved here was involved I mean there's a lot that goes into it and I think the reason that we're waiting ask from what I understand 'til Monday is because the exact same thing is going on with Memphis I think they're waiting to sit down with with the the the mayor and the sit down with the city officials to talk about where we might eventually end up so that that's what's being held up but I I loved what PJ Flex brought up and I loved his passion I'm a big Fan of his I just he's one of those guys I think if you sit in the room with them you can't help but just like sit up straight and even if you're not a player you just happen to be in a conversation with them about anything you're locked in yeah yeah yeah and I I any time he's on TV I'm I'm engaged in dialed into anything he says so when he he said all right here comes my message you guys ready here we go and Kinda went on any you know he made a very very strong case and by the time he was done I said I'm in and I would love to come to Minneapolis for Penn State undefeated Penn state and undefeated Minnesota would be a great setting cannot cannot imagine Agean what that would be like around the game they said with those two teams in the years that they're enjoying and unfortunately LSU in Alabama and he said well you can do you.
