"Champ on the morning. Is pro Football Hall of Famer Herb Adderley, defensive back for Lombardi's Packers in the 19 sixties, passed away this week. He was 81 years old. Her battery. Lee Story's amazing Adderley was a star running back in college, and he was drafted by the Packers to back up Jim Taylor. Paul Horning, of course, in those early sixties days, and throughout the sixties, the Packers use their famed Packer sweep to dominate foes and Vince Lombardi love to run the football. But he couldn't get any type of run behind Jim Taylor and Paul Horning. Two elite historically good running backs. And Adderley was a former All big 10 guys. Michigan state. So Lombardi goes to get you on the field that's moving to corner. Now. This is a guy that barely played any defense in college, and he turns into a pro football hall of Femur at cornerback. He also was a terrific special team star of Kick returner, punt returner for the Packers and played in all those wonderful Packers teams of the 19 sixties winning Super Bowls. Going to Pro Bowls, begin all pro and ultimately going to the pro Football Hall of Fame. Her batter, Lee, though Was part of a real changing society. Back in the 19 sixties, when he first got to Green Bay, landlords in Green Bay did not rent to people of color. And so the black players of the Packers Couldn't get a place in Green Bay. They had to live in a ramshackle house on the outskirts of town. When Lombardi realized this, he purposefully and personally went to these landlords and worked out Better housing for her batter, Lee and his black players Now it just seems insane to think about the first round draft pick who's not allowed to be Renting a home in the town that he's playing in because of racism..

"Steve when you had your piff Unie about Michael. That led you to write that. How aware were most people of the movements that he had made? Was there a lot of buzz around him? At that point in the season because banning average was around two hundred. And that's what people look at first right. If you saw that he was hitting one ninety eight you would think you would think he's a failure right. There are stories of other major leaguers who had terrible minor league seasons but clearly. They were showing talent in the team stuck weather. And maybe the case with Michael Jordan. So what happened next for hidden and his baseball career. What happened next was he went to the Arizona. Fall League which is a higher level baseball. Even the southern league any to fifty five. He was clearly tracking towards at least a promotion to triple A. And maybe a call up to Chicago in nineteen ninety five but has it happened. Baseball was in a work stoppage. For the first time in American history a union is about to go on strike even though its members make an average salary of a million dollars apiece and Michael didn't want any part of that. This labor crisis has the potential matching severity and longevity. The players walk out of eighteen ninety which lasted a full year. So when the strike hit Michael didn't even consider crossing the picket line to get his chance. No he was A. He was a player wrap himself. He was not about to go against the grain there so he decided to give up baseball. Tito Francona Mike Barnett. Maintain to this day. He could've made the major leagues. What about you do you think he would have made it and how good could have bit? I? I think he could have made the major leagues. I'm not sure he would have been a starting outfielder. You know I look. At the current landscape of baseball Michael Jordan would have been alike. Michael Taylor nationals outfielder. Michael Taylor a Grand Slam home. Run Fast and very grateful and has a little pop. Goes Taylor Paul's in left field? And he will score to one for the running wild nationals to see because of that strike and the timing of it all Michael went back to basketball and well. The rest is history agency and play out on the stance about you know his first full season back the Bulls set a record for the most wins in NBA history. They won the title ear. Spoiler alert the next two seasons after that as well when he initially retired in one. Thousand Nine Three. You mentioned. He did it in part largely. He was burned out. How did that season in baseball affect his mindset for coming back to the NBA? Did he get what he needed out of? It definitely definitely.

I had come back from the Philippines was not feeling that wonderful. thought I was sick. I thought maybe I got a urinary tract infection in fact I did get a urinary tract. Infection are still a little better in thought not to to go to the doctor but because I had just returned from the Philippines I thought better of it and said I should go so I did good thing that I did so so basically not to get too graphic but I my bladder was not a retaining too much fluid and so so they gave me put me on a medicine that was supposed to solve that and went in for what was supposed to be a routine test just to make sure the medicine was working working and the doctor freaked out because I was retaining way too much liquid and had to do an emergency categorization irritation and if you've ever had that or just think about what that is it was not fun and so I had to have that in for over a week and so they think things are the medicine is working. Now I will be going in for a procedure on the twenty-first where they will take care of it. Hopefully hopefully for good and solve the problem but basically it was a very painful experience and and I'm glad that that is removed but the day they were doing that was last Thursday to see whether they could remove it or not and and I was very glad that he did so now. I'm Ana Fund Regiment. I have to drink cranberry cranberry juice. My wife gives me cranberry juice now because that's supposedly good for you so I don't like it that much. It's really sour. "The penguins powerplay goes to work in the waning moments of the period i agree with pearl you'd say by keith visa to the right he's got a couple of all the way to the left side in again balkan leftists against where the goalie came from one last chance for pittsburgh but no the pierre you will come to an end and he came to an end tied it one thanks to the pse g seve of the game and when your color analysts says brilliant brilliant brilliant there's not much more to say no no in the body language of a balkan i watched him as before he went off the ice he circled around just by his box there and i could tell he said what a nice score in when you got a guy that could score like him questioning himself you know that you're starting to get in his head and that with the last save that was a lash out he got all game that's amazing it it is and so how much did that play into what we saw or didn't see in the final forty minutes from if guinea malkin because he did not have another shot after thinking i should add multiple goal here i mean it could have played that much into his oh yeah i mean you know no matter how good you can get frustrated frustrated or well anyway but no he he was and you know what matt as i watched his body language he got more and more discourage i seen that from it can be anybody but i think that took him out of the game that great save right at the very end of the first period and the biggest save of the game no question about turning point where the penguins didn't score late in the first yeah and it kept it tied at one though the devil's killed off the remainder of that lovejoy penalty as the second period got underway then what tang was call for a three minutes into the second devils go to work on the power play and they take the lead cranks looking to gain control brian boil though cousin let them now here's a chance for the devil's us iverson caught up and then they score taylor paul from no quarter fires headed to an open that the powerplay goal makes it to to one twenty seven th goal of the season for taylor hall that.

"Wilderness inquiry does is that they are so able to make the outdoors make the wilderness except accessible to all different types of people and so when you take your students on a trip lake you did backpacking ed to the bear tooth's how many of those kids have uh you know like what is their level of engagement when it comes to the wilderness had is this something that they have seen before done before resist pretty much new to them oh something like well we've got the purely went to absorb prepare tooth wilderness the previous two years we went to yellowstone proper so you were actually doing a would call a front country triplett car camping basically people feared that i would pay but um you know our kids we offer approximately two outings among um so they we do things like a you know ice skating at a city park or a rock climbing it taylor's paul or we're about to go in v o r and a half an hour we're gonna be mountainbiking right here in the apart inject and park next to edison and then were developing guilt so that we can go out to worth park into lebanon park later on uh next month so they're thought familiar with with outdoor activities but um if part something like a cure wilderness like like they would encounter and learn to bear to probably the most of them have never done that and uh quite a few of them have never been to the american were either for that would be a first time for them and what do you think sets wilderness inquiry apart from other organizations who might be doing similar work what really is the valley because at the end of the day what we're trying to do is convince our listeners that the work wilderness inquiry does really you know is worthy of their support i think i think from the very founding of the organisation they were about accessibility making the wilderness acceptable to everyone um in a initially i think that was mostly folks with with physical disabilities but our kid some some of them might have disabilities but but the branched out i think to where there about making in the wilderness acceptable to to.
