"A news 93.1 KFBK Now trending Joe Michael's for Kitty O'Neil, sending it to the KFBK newsroom with the very latest from Taylor Martin. New and more contagious strain of the Corona virus is now confirmed in the US. Ah young man in Colorado is said to be the first case. The strain was discovered in the UK, forcing much of England into lockdown. It's since been detected and at least 17 other countries for 47. Now at news 93.1 kfbk and Time to go in depth on Operation Warp speed the federal government's plan to vaccinate America NBC's Mark Millar joins us Now He's been covering the story and mark. We're hearing that we're a little behind. Yeah, so we are behind, based on what the Trump Administration and Operation Warp Speed had said about What Americans should expect. Here. We are at the end of the year, and we're not at those levels. The Trump administration. I mean, back in over the summer. Had these estimates of maybe 100 million doses would be out there by the end of the year of a vaccine, then that was revised down, too. You know, 40 million doses in 20 million people vaccinated. Well, you know, there's only a couple days left in the year here, and the latest numbers we have is 11.4 Million doses have been shipped. We know of 2.5 roughly 2.5 million people that have been vaccinated. But there is a caveat to that number. That is CDC data that is likely days behind because it requires states to report the latest data to them so that number is likely low. But nevertheless we're still well under the 20 million people that you know the Trump Administration operation Warp Speed had been saying we could expect to see if everything went to plan. But we are seeing Medical professionals, health officials like Dr Anthony Fauci, you know, say as much that we're not where we wanted to be. And you know, it's starting to see this kind of disconnect between the federal government states and the local level that all have to work. Together and respond effectively to this. And you know, one of the criticism that we saw was from Dr Ashish job from Brown University who said that it appears there's a lack of planning and infrastructure for that very last mile, the federal government procured these doses. They get them shipped out to states. The states distribute them to hospitals. But then there's no plan as to how to effectively and equitably. Distribute, actually get these vaccines into people's arms. And we have heard at ABC as well as other media outlets reporting, you know, at times, a chaotic free for all style vaccine systems in a lot of these hospitals around the country, so much left to be desired here. What about this new variant mark the new mutation of covert night scene? It was just confirmed in the US this afternoon in Colorado. The approved Corona virus vaccines protect against it. Yeah, The understanding is that the vaccines would be effective against it. It is a new variant. You know, you mentioned that that we have our first reporter first case of that in Colorado in someone Who does not have a history of travel, which, presumably that means he came in contact with someone else here in the US that had it that person isolating is our understanding at this point, But the understanding is that these vaccines would still be effective or or useful in combating even these new variants of covert 19 as they spike the immune system But in terms of any national specific testing over this, I'm not aware of that. But that's what we've heard from health officials. It's Mark Malard reporting for us that news 93.1 kfbk score 50. Now we check traffic.
