"Help you? You want to develop your own quarterback? That's number one. The number of priority. Now, what the approach is right for that, I don't know. What approach is right for developing Justin Fields? Is it sitting? Honestly, only Justin Fields and the people in that building know the right way to do it. I'm not going to tell them how to develop their quarterback. But I would love to see the guy play. And it doesn't make if you think it's best for his development to sit him. Then you do that, but I don't care about any doll. No, I don't. You got to move your sights to whatever's best for Justin Fields. And it doesn't matter if you win games from here on out. What does matter is developing your young quarterback? And so whatever is best for that process, that's what should happen in Chicago. Ham and writes in. He says. This is hold on. This is very weird. Oh, I got an extra question in C so I got three more questions. First of all, hand man writes and says, I am sincerely sorry about questioning your infinite wisdom when it comes to Seattle..

"I'm going to break down, every week I cover college football, have no doubt, I'll do it again next week. So the answer ultimate a yes. Evan says, hey, Zack, as a Tennessee volunteers fan, I have been really surprised at how successful Josh, who pulls offense has been, who I not know how to say his name. It shows you how engaged I'm a tennis and football. I don't know how to his offense has been successful in his first year with us. While our time of possession has been consistently low, we've been scoring a lot and have managed a 7 and 5 year. This new offensive style had me thinking a lot about different systems. And I was wondering what kind of system you would run. If you were calling the shots for a team. Oh man, it's a fun question to think about. So I think about it this way. I would probably, if I ever became a coach, I would start in high school because that's where the jobs are that I could take right now. I mean, I've been offered jobs as an offensive coordinator in high school football, like literally that's happened to me in my lifetime recently. And I would run the ball a lot. I love I'm a quarterback. I'm gonna throw The Rock, but I really also value running the football. And running the football is incredibly important. And I'd want a quarterback who can move. And I'm running the zone read. I think.

"Okay, Davis writes in, I'm going to answer a part of your question Davis. I apologize in advance. Davis high Zack, halfway through the season already, jeez. What is your freshman head coach power ranking? He wrote in gs, I read that poorly, by the way, like the pause, and the G's, whatever. I don't want to rank all the coaches. It feels too early. Only at 12 weeks in the NFL season, I probably should do like my contenders. Again, I need to do that. I'll probably do it later this week. I feel bad like hating on coaches that I think are bad. Or like David culley, David culley, the Texans coach. Where would I rank him? And how do you even rank it? Urban Meyer's doing some stuff I like. I like Robert sala, although he's my bad this year. Nick sirianni has done a better job than I thought he would, but I don't want to run. I apologize. I don't feel comfortable ranking them. But I can say that the best rookie head coach in my opinion. And the guy that's really shocked me and surprised me. I'm like, who do you think it is? Take a second, like if you're listening, take a guess. Who do you think my favorite rookie head coaches right now in the NFL? Okay, bedtime. It's Brandon staley. The Chargers head coach. I love the guy. Players love him. He's smart. He goes for an fourth down. He's winning. I really, I mean, I thought that the game against Pittsburgh where Pittsburgh made a late comeback and it felt like LA was going to lose, which would have been very typical of the Anthony Lynn Philip Rivers era and that's a game that would have lost in the past and Brandon staley found a way to win with Justin Herbert and I love that. And I have some concerns about Lombardi, the offensive coordinator. I think he's a little bit safe a little bit stifling of Justin Herbert, but.

"He got Notre-Dame to a national title. He got them to the college football playoff. They lost Alabama both times, by the way. But that's impressive in of itself. Like he got Notre-Dame. To the college football player and national title in his run 12 years there, he could have stayed. He had no reason. He wasn't being pushed out. No one wanted him to believe. But for him going to LLC, it's an upgrade. Notre-Dame is kind of pompous. They think they are all that. To me, LSU is way better. It's a better situation for you for your life to build a future and shoot for more. Like, I don't know that Brian Kelly can win a national title. I know for sure he couldn't do it at Notre-Dame. I wasn't gonna happen at Notre-Dame. He might be able to do it at LSU. And that's the possibility he's going for. It's that little sliver of hope that he didn't have before by being a part of Notre-Dame. So it's a risk, but I love it. I love it so much. It's going to be a ton of fun and I'm happy. Brian Kelly, make an upgrades in his life. I think that should be celebrated. A lot of people are talking about, why would you leave Notre-Dame? That's cool and of itself is when you don't need to leave, but you choose to leave. That right there is exciting. And let's imagine Brian Kelly did not take the job. At LSU, he stays at Notre-Dame. You think he's going to live the rest of his life thinking about what have I taken that job? You don't want that at all. You don't want to leave your life thinking about what if. Now, for LSU, I think this is probably who else were they going to hire? I can't think of a better option actually. And that's not a ringing endorsement of Brian Kelly. But you're looking at Brian Kelly a guy who did really well at Notre-Dame over achieved a little bit at Notre-Dame, who's going to get better facilities and more stuff it is disposal. That's exciting to think about like, oh, what can he achieve? Look what he did at Notre-Dame. What can he achieve with more money better facilities and even more passion with his fan base? I actually think it's a perfect marriage. It's one that people are probably not that excited about because Brian Kelly's not a hot new name in college football, but this is a really successful coach who's done more with less than what LSU has. And I talked a while ago about what LS you could do is hire a coach maybe out of the FCS level who's been winning with fewer scholarships and less facilities. They kind of did that..

"Okay three two one oh my goodness. Good morning, good afternoon. Whatever it is for you. I hope you're having a fan, tastic day. My name is Zack Schumer. This is strong opinion sports episode 400 and 20. A number that is near and dear to my heart, I'm going to leave it at that and you know what I'm talking about. In the studio today, I found a really big massive yellow bug. I don't know what it is. It's now the third time I've seen one. I got it with the vacuum cleaner. It's in the vacuum cleaner. I think it's gonna stay there. I don't think it can get out. But it was horrifying. It was like, it was on my foot. I mean, I'm not kidding. I felt this thing on my foot. I'm like, what does that look? And I move my foot and it stayed on there, the audacity, the stupid bug, it didn't even move, and I'm like, I got terrified. I ended up kicking it off into the light switch and I vacuumed it up and that was terrifying. And then today, also in the studio, there's a fly buzzing around and I've spent 20 minutes, and after 20 minutes of trying to get the fly out of the room, I gave up, I'm like, look, I want to move on with my life and record the podcast and I'm getting really tired of it's so embarrassing to fly everywhere. It's a tiny room. It's like 8 by 8 8 feet by 8 feet. It's a tiny room in here, and I couldn't get the fly out. I have two doors in and out. I did everything I could. So if there's a fly buzzing around, let's pray it doesn't land on the camera. And if you see a fly, I swear, I'm not like living in squalor. I just could not get the fly out of the room today. Let's start today with this. On Monday Night Football, the Washington football team beat Seattle, 17 to 15, and I love this game because it was Seattle Washington against Washington D.C., the two Washington teams. And I think this is a perfect game to do a breakdown on. Because it's two teams with losing records and I hate to admit this, but even I and look, I watch football all day, it's my job. And I love it. I really love watching football. It's my favorite thing in the world when I'm having a hard time in life like football is my escape. Even I had a hard time getting into this game. And so I wonder if a lot of people skipped it, there was no paid Manning broadcast. It actually did have a wild and fun ending, but.

"Up and share. So how do we invite more people to the robotic software revolution. We're very much interested in identifying where those brand new ideas might come into play. Timothy chung is a program manager at darpa. Darpa is the defense advanced research projects agency. These are the folks who brought you. Gps and you know the internet. They know how to build new tech and chung who focuses on robotics feels that group challenges where people from around the world compete a one of his best tools for inspiring innovations for example the darpa subterranean challenge is a worldwide international competition really keen on identifying and discovering technologies for robotic systems that operate in complex underground environments darpa subterranean challenge is similar to the nasa challenge. I mentioned at the top of this episode away for a huge organization to tap the brain power of the crowd. It's a kind of underground scavenger hunt. They've been running since twenty nineteen teams deliver robots that fly walk or roll their way to a system of caves hunting for objects. Plant it darpa. They're testing lobes in underground caves. Because a million bumps in cracks can make them stumble and they want a robot that can stay the course. Nature has a way of keeping things unpredictable. They want an all round athlete. That can rise. Random challenges darpa wants to develop robots that can navigate the world's most difficult settings and yet despite the very physical nature of this challenge simulation software is still crucial it aids in the development of the physical robots of course but there's also a separate entirely virtual competition run by darpa that one's called the sub t. tech repo the virtual competitions kind of fantasy football league where i provide you with thousands of credits you get to go to the tech repo and pick and choose the different robots that you'd like to add to your fantasy sub team and design your algorithms to best suit those robots those virtual competitors then modify sensors or bring in new open source models that they find the taylor things as they see fit. We've seen that type of vibrant interchange and that's been phenomenal for the systems teams to see their robots being used they might learn a thing or two from the virtual competitors tongue is already seen advancements in code and design philosophy. Come out of these challenges. It's so much more than a scavenger hunt so remember. Kevin cadaver the guy who won that nasa competition by designing a martian rescue mission from his kitchen. Well same guy went ahead. And one darpa subterranean challenge in two thousand nineteen in some of the teams. He competed against we're funded by darpa. He was david against goliath. I was very proud of myself being able to win a competition with against us. Monday teams there. Interestingly of the top four three of them were self-funded teams. Software has been an equaliser robotics was for decades. A field were only rich. Organizations could make big advances but software has begun to change all that. It's still often those with time in education who get to really dive deep but the gates are beginning to open more people than ever are discovering. They can contribute the availability of open source. Software is of huge deal making things easier. It makes possible to do that would not otherwise possible and over at darpa timothy. Chung doesn't worry that those darpa funded teams were beat. In fact the way he sees it everybody wins. And meanwhile every time to neither enters a competition the whole community learns from him and the bar raised for next time continues to his own game as the community continues to benefit and grow and excel. And you know. That's one of the advantages of competitions. Is we like to call copetition where you can cooperate and collaborate with your fellow collaborators and competitors alike and that just elevates everyone's game at the end of the day the old fantasies we had about robots all those movies were robots were designed and secret laboratories. They really got something wrong. Secrets aren't good for innovation and software. Like ross and gazebo mean that every robot assist from every background is invited to the field new and unconventional solutions can come from anywhere when i think about the power that open source. Software has on robotics. The way democratize is the field and pushes things forward. I have to remind myself that one day. These robots show up in real life to the darpa subterranean challenge matters because for example darpa might create robots that help us rescue humans from a mining accident or burning building. The great thing about robot. Dreams is that one day they become real and next time on command line heroes. We're exploring one of the most real moments and robot history the moment that huge and physical robots arrived on the factory floor. These weren't just relations or abstract pieces of software. Factory robots taking up space and deciding how much space they should take up became a global debate. Make sure to catch episode three and every episode by following or subscribing. Now wherever you get your podcast. I'm suranyi barak and this is command. Line euros unoriginal. Podcast from red hat till next time. Keep on code..

"That was not a clear headed calculated Max Verstappen that caused that accident in Italy. So max got a three place grid penalty for the start of the next race in Russia. The best at max can qualify next week in saatchi is fourth in qualifying. And because of the penalty now, red win might also double up, they're like, hey, we're going to maybe start forth anyway. We're going to have a penalty of three place, grid penalty. Maybe we start max at the back of the grid because max is gonna need a fourth engine or fourth power unit at some point during this season. He's already had three power units he's gone through. He's on his third right now. If he has another power unit and uses the fourth, he's going to have to take a penalty like the alter Botox actually had in Italy where he started the back of the grid. And it's likely, again, the foresight for Red Bull is, hey, max is going to need a fourth power unit at some point anyway this year. Why not bite the bullet? We're going to get penalized anyway. Let's double up, take another penalty start at the back of the grid, and get him his fourth power unit now Versace in Russia. I think it's risky, though. I don't know that that's a good idea. I think it would be an unforced error to make that happen. I don't think it's a good idea to switch out your power unit before you really need a new one. Because what if max crashes and then ends up needing a what if he has his fourth one in saatchi? And then crashes and needs another one, a 5th one, later down the road. Later in the year. So I would wait to swap mine into Lewis does, because then you both take the grid penalty at the same time, both start from the back of the grid. Plus, again, max can qualify forth inside if he gets first place in qualifying..

"I'm so excited for this. I finally watched the Italian Grand Prix. It was on Sunday morning. I apologize I'm late. That game took place the same day that NFL week one kicked off. Saturday night leading up to the race was an all nighter for me. I was busy editing my predictions and previews and trying to get everything out I could. I think I uploaded literally like 35 videos that morning. I was a little busy to be watching an F one race, which isn't my bread and butter. People realize that my number one thing is football, I have to cover that. I will cover the Russian Grand Prix much more quickly hopefully Monday morning, my race review will come out for the Russian Grand Prix and Sochi this upcoming week. Anyway, I did watch the race from last weekend and it was a wild one. Oh my goodness. Lewis and max collided, Danny Ricardo won, it was a blast to watch. I want to break it all down. I want to start by talking about Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton crashing. So Lewis just had reentered the track from a pit stop, and max was really, really pissed because he just had an 11 second pit stop. He'd win her on the track one time and had gone from second place to tenth. And was really upset about losing his positioning, and he did not want to give up his position to Lewis Hamilton. So max drove up alongside Lewis as he went around a corner, and they crashed going around the turn. It was a scary cry. So terrifying. I put a video on my Instagram story, I put it on Twitter. Max Verstappen had all four wheels off the ground, and he climbed up on top of Lewis Hamilton's car. It's one of those things where you see Max Verstappen's car on top of Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes, and you have this awakening moment and you're like, thank goodness for the halo. Without the halo, Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton might have literally died, and anyone who had any opposition to the halo was proved on Sunday, like you were ridiculous. Anybody who didn't want the halo in Formula One, I think was just flat out wrong because you would have lost one of the greatest drivers if not the greatest driver in Formula One history, Lewis Hamilton. Definitely in the conversation. At minimum would have been severely injured by literally Max Verstappen's car landing on top of him. And it was ugly. And I do fear that this is not the end of battling and crashing between Macs and Lewis max and Lewis are number one and number two in the title fight in Formula One.

"But Taylor heineke should not be the franchise quarterback in Washington. When I look for a quarterback, I'm looking for the next Josh Allen or Justin Herbert or Kyle Murray. Someone with crazy high potential. I'm looking for basically like the Ferrari of quarterbacks. And I would say that Taylor heineke is like the Ford focus of quarterbacks. You trust him enough, he's fine, he's good enough for now. And I would keep heineke until I find something better. And I would not get rid of him. Even after, if I found a Justin Herbert or maybe Malik Willis at liberty is a guy who's got crazy high potential in college right now. Maybe the draft from leak Willis, I would still keep Taylor heineke on my team. I trust him. He's great backup. You can win if my starting quarterback gets hurt. But the entire time I would have heinecke on my football team, I would be looking for an upgrade. And that's really how I feel. Taylor heinecke is exactly what Washington needs right now. He's not going to last forever, but I would recommend fans enjoy it well at last he's fun, he's cool, he can win a little bit. He's a good story, he's accurate. He's a pretty solid decision maker only had a couple of throws last night where I was like, ah, I wouldn't make that's a bad throw into triple coverage. Don't make that happen. He can extend plays a little bit. But he's also small has limited arm. I just don't look at Taylor Heineken go, oh wow, oh my goodness, I'm so excited for his potential, but I like what he's done he's done good work so far. Again, I wouldn't want the guy forever. Now let's talk about giant's quarterback Daniel Jones. I thought Daniel Jones had a great game against Washington. And I know it's popular to say he's a terrible quarterback. Can you hear that all the time, but he's not terrible. And I've been saying this for a long, long time. Daniel Jones is just okay. He's not awful,.

"Though too. Yes, your kicker is good. Oh, congratulations, but also you never want to be kicking settling for 5 field goals in one game. That happens because the Giants were four for 12 on third down. That's not great. It's really, really, in fact, really bad. So I want to talk about quarterbacks now. And we'll start with Washington because they won feels right to do that. I know a lot of people want to hear about Taylor heinecke. Last year in the playoffs, Taylor heinecke made his first ever NFL start in the playoffs again against Tom Brady starting for the Washington football team and on Thursday night we learned that that was not a fluke that playoff game where he played really well almost beat Tom Brady. Taylor heinecke can play a little bit. He's a very solid good quarterback. Do you for over 300 yards, two touchdowns? And by the way, he doesn't have the weirdest name ever, but I know that the eye and the E are easy to get confused and have a little trick I used to remember how to spell his name. If anybody, I don't know if this is helpful for anybody. But all you have to remember in order to spell his name correctly, it's the H, E, I after that, it's the name Nick like the name Nick and then the letter E AGI Nick E and I CK hei NI CK, Nick, that's how you remember how to spell his name. It really helped me when I was like, oh, that's how I just, from that, oh, Taylor heineke, I haven't screwed up his name ever since figuring that out. I loved watching this dude when he wasn't drafted. I remember early in 2020, it was at almost two years ago now. I guess a year and a half roughly January, February 2020, when Taylor heineke was the backup on the XFL Seattle sorry the St. Louis battle hawks I remember him and the blue Jersey on the sideline behind Doran to amu and brogan rollback, the quarterback who was with the freak out the browns on tard knocks. He was the third string quarterback on an XFL team in February 2020. And now he's the starting quarterback for the Washington of football team. That's an unbelievable story what a cool journey he has had. Now, this might be unpopular, and want to be clear. Great story, love the dude. Love is playing style Taylor heineke is really scrappy. He makes good decisions. He's fun to watch. I don't want to mean, I don't mean to rain on the parade here. But I would not build around Taylor heineke. He's a perfect backup. You trust him. He can play if he needs to..

"Three two one oh my goodness. Good morning, good afternoon. Whatever it is for you, I hope you're having a fantastic day. My name is Zach Schaumburg. It's a strong opinion sports episode 300 and 84 welcome in. Let's not waste any time. Let's jump in. NFL week two is here on Thursday Night Football the Washington football team beat the New York Giants 30 to 29. And dude, I wake up this morning and I honestly, I feel I feel bad for giants fans. I think those people are finally starting to wake up to the realization of what their season is going to look like. And I hope I'm wrong. I hope the Giants have a great, like, I think people don't realize I don't ever root against anybody or any team. I'm not that kind of person. I don't believe based on what I've seen leading up to the year and then in the first two games, this is not going to be a good year for The New York Times. It's going to be an ugly long grueling year for the Giants. And I feel bad for giants fans. And I hope I'm wrong, but I feel bad for you guys who are waking up today and realize oh no. What have we got ourselves into this year? There's a lot to be said. Number one, the Giants should have won this game. I don't know how you don't walk away from this game feeling like the Giants just had a massive missed opportunity. The biggest reason to me was penalties. They had 11 penalties in this game. Pretty much all of them were costly. They extended drives for Washington. They gave them second chances. They hurt drives through New York. For example, in one drive, they had two false starts to row in a third and 5 turned into a third and 15 that can not happen if you want to win. And then of course, on the final drive for Washington, there were two big mistakes. One would have been a penalty. The Giants luckily caught it before it happened. It was a third and 5, and the Giants had to waste the time out. And waste is the wrong word that's the end of the game. That's why you keep your timeouts for that moment. But the Giants had too many men in the field, so they had to take a time out. It would have been a penalty..

"Jones. Why gowdy got targeted eight times three receptions for thirty eight yards a couple of the throw is were really high in fact. One of the throw is where he was wide open. Daniel jones missed him by about fifteen yards. And golly literally was like yeah dude. No way you didn't even try for it. It was like a home. Run ball for center fielder where the ball hit so far over the hit guys head. He's like yup. I'm not moving. Look that balls gone. I'm not running that just by not doing it. Golladay was like yup not doing it. After the game daniel jones was asked about the exchange. The key camera showed kenny. Golladay yelling at you on the sideline near the end of the game would have. Yeah you know. I think you know. He was frustrated the situation. I don't really think it was To me or anyone in particular. So i think You know we're all good and love. Kenny i thought he played hard and a lot of good things a particular playing the game. Yeah just just plays and and you know to do a better job finding some places and you know. We'll we'll work through. What was he yelling. he sang. Here's just frustrated. Frustrated the situation and we'll be better from it just conversation communicating with them. He's know he plays hard wants to win and wants to do best for the team. So you know. That's that's the deal that i love the new york media the near comedian. Just won't leave you alone like you can't just coachspeak the new york media like what you're talking about. What was he saying. Who was saying what how. What were you saying back. Like they want to know the full details of everything going on but it does cover up for darius layton who dropped the game like you're wide open blown coverage you need to get football like you have to catch up all your professional wide receiver getting paid to do exactly that. You have to make the catch. Even all the mistakes that were being made you have to make that catch. Now i'm not totally letting ron rivera off the hook. Either i mean ron rivera didn't do i mean i don't know why he was calling timeouts where he was calling timeouts. He burned his last time out. When ian third-down coming up that could have burned them really badly. He was fortunate to have plays. It'd be able to make a first down because on third down to use that time out and be no sense to burn that time out because if you didn't convert then you would have been having a run. The field goal unit on involve fifteen seconds trying to get the game winning kick on. It's just typical. Nfc east football. But i'm happy for taylor. Heineke happy for the win for washington. Oh into now for the giants and it could be a long year in new york. That was a game. They should have won. Those are the wins. That burn you stick with you. "So it's there's a chance, such a have one of those types of games. I don't think he's having one of those types of games in the divisional, round of the playoffs, but in a pre-season game, if he has one of those types of games, then we're the conversation, needs to be re-evaluated, right? And I need to find a way to speak him onto my 53-man roster. I think. So, that's one. Another player that I'm definitely think is worth watching tomorrow night and in all fat pieces of the game, right? They returned ability and on offense. How about there's a couple more that long it on Carl Davis? I think is having a fantastic training camp. I almost don't even want to put him on the bubble anymore. I think that he might already be on the roster unless he really kind of Falls from Grace here. Just as Belichick says system failed, who's having a really nice training camp so far long 6.5, 320 pounds, good to Gathering ability. I think he's got a little bit of Wiggle to him as a god. On finesse 2 to rush the passer if they want to leave him in there, insert a play-action, first down type of situations but he's somebody that probably is the back up to Davon godchaux or Florence. KY bolp interior of the defensive line but I think a valuable depth piece if they can hang on to him and he just seems to fit what they want to do. Upfront. Extremely well, yeah, I'd agree. I, you know, he's not on because of lack of talent, right? Or if he's not on, he's not on because of it's not because of the lack of talent right now. It's because there's so many guys ahead of them, print, right? And there's just so much talent overall at that position, so, we'll see what happens with him. If Chase winovich opens up the year on p u p, maybe that's how he gets on the Rosser. Yeah, I think, you know, it's a good challenge for everybody up front on the not to go away from Davis but I'm not touched on it all. I don't want to be redundant. All the quarterbacks Washington has obviously Fitzpatrick, but Taylor heinicke, Steven, Montez Kyle Island, all these guys have a little wiggle room. None of them are Lamar Jackson, but they can also log Around a little bit and are all pretty elusive, relative to the quarterback position. So I think it's going to be a very good, very good test, a very good test for some of those guys off, I think that whoever the quarterback is.

Washington QB Taylor Heinicke thinks it'll be "a fun battle" with Ryan Fitzpatrick

"So washington signed ryan fitzpatrick. It was assumed he would be the starting quarterback next season. But taylor heineke isn't setting settling for the backup spot. This looking forward to competing with. Its patrick he said it's going to be a fun battle. We're going to hopefully help each other. I'm looking forward to picking his brain getting better as a quarterback in that way and whatever unfolds unfolds but again. I'm excited for the addition. I'm excited for this offense that we've put together don't get it. Don't really understand it. The mystery team in league do not get

"About the New York Giants coming up. All right, we are back but we're doing very very well. Let's talk about Washington the Washington football team had maybe the craziest year of football. I can imagine a team having it was a long roller coaster here is a couple of things just factual statements that really actually happened during the 2020 season for the Washington football team. First of all, they had no team name right off name their coach had cancer their former first-round quarterback, Dwayne Haskins got a first-round pick less than two years after being a first-round pick made bad decisions on and off the field. He got benched and then he got cut but never happens. I can't imagine her time. We're less than two years after drafting a quarterback least not recently. The guy was out washing even had a losing record. They were seven and nine. And yet still this team made the playoffs. It's simply it's crazy to me. And the message here is that they hired the right Coach Ron Rivera. I I love Ron I believed in Ron here is even crazier Alex Smith who was their third string starting quarterback to start the year that guy went on to win the comeback player of the year in the NFL. And then in the playoffs a different quarterback a fourth quarterback, not Alex Smith. Not Dwayne Haskins not Kyla know a guy named Taylor heinicke. He came in had a crazy game in the playoffs against Tampa Bay made Tom Brady made Tampa sweat. They were nervous. In fact, it's kind of crazy Taylor henneke did better in the playoffs against Tampa. Then Drew Brees then Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes better than all three of those guys in their former Super Bowl MVP winning quarterbacks. So the year did not go the way I expected for Washington not even in the slightest. In fact going going into your going into twenty-twenty. I totally wrote them office and this team is not go to and for no wet Washington that there's too much going on and it makes sense Alex Smith coming off injury coach has cancer no team name quarterback Haskins who's been all over the place on film and off the field. And I even this I was actually expecting the mostly watch Dwayne Haskins. I literally said my prediction video the three people I'm excited to watch are all from Ohio State Terry McLaurin Chase young and talk to Wayne Haskins Duane's not on the team and I what I got in Washington when I watched them play football. We just kind of good football. I find incredibly hard. They love their head coach of era and even more telling a team that had four starting quarterbacks this year to make the playoffs to give the Super Bowl winning team a run for their money in the playoffs. That's a sign of a well-coached football team. Kyle Allan Taylor, henneke Dwayne Haskins, Alex Smith four starting quarterbacks this year a team that made the playoffs and had despite a crazy Rocky thing. They made the playoffs work. They won their division now got to give a shout out to the rookie defensive end Chase young because he became a huge leader in their locker room. They're very proud of him. They like him off Washington got the right coach. I'm happy for them. They got a draft of the right guy. Number two overall Chase young and it was just a weird wild crazy here, but also a huge step in the right direction for this franchise who Washington's been a mess for a long time. They got The Right leader in place Ron Rivera. They're heading in the right direction. I don't know what they do at quarterback next year..

"Because you kept then we talk about the defense. So we argued about that. I moved out you read and you brought it right back. So go ahead and you you made the point that oh, we'll also look at the offense. They did this differently. I'm pointing you at that. They're not in my opinion wage. And I'm not saying that you're wrong I'm saying in my opinion. This Bucks team has been run based short passes. They take their shut just like Tony Romo was saying in the game play-action game. That's what they did. They stay true to themselves and because they could and this is why I thought the Bucks were going to end up winning this game is cuz they could play different ways. And if you can run the ball successfully and in my opinion for net and Jones, the two-headed monster wage more important than Brady in this game that they were able to do that to keep the a blitzing pressure defense off of balance was was a huge factor in this game. And so, you know, that that's just came down on that. I want to go through quickly that the second and third headlines that I have for this game Brady of court number to Brady of course winds number seven, you know, he wins his fists MVP. I don't think anybody watching this game thought that Tom Brady was Well, I mean it who do you pick you can't pick anybody from the defense? You can't pick Todd Bowles and not anybody had like four sacks in the game. So what are you going to do? But Tom Brady win the MVP grunge a big part in the game, you know, which was great to see and I'm sure great for Patriots fans. And the number three thing, you know the first half officiating it's it was a story-based game. It will probably still be a story. I don't think it was deciding factor in the game. But I do think it certainly factored into the fourth quarter being largely lost. Yeah, I mean I just look at this and I say to myself that we all kind of wondered what Brady was going to do with this team and how he was going to be able to put the pieces together because I do think some of the the late Ron was in the regular season was overstated depending on you know, who they played against their schedule is really soft and final month. And you know, the Washington win was okay. It's against Taylor heinicke. It's against a young defensive line. So I didn't put too much stock into that winning the win against New Orleans. I thought was a defensive based win and and Drew Brees, you know just looked like garbage to me quite frankly and I think he's going to retire this week. I thought really need the game that you looked at was the Green Bay game. And this defense I understand listen that they've been they've been good for the most part this year..

"I mean it depends on what George Paton the new GM thinks of Drew lock the Panthers have an AGM but it's Matt rules team and they are going to be very aggressive for quarterback Nick. So, you know that sort of leads and plus Washington now has a GM and Marty hurney, it's Ron Rivera's basically, but they are going to be in the market for starting quarterback also because they have they've Alex Smith who you can't rely on him his health. They have Kyle down and Tyler heinicke who Taylor heinicke who are both restricted free agents, so they will be back but I don't think any of those things preclude them. I mean Alex Smith, they're going to have to figure out his contract. I don't think that precludes any of wage anybody there from from being the starter that that the that Washington will be out there and looking for a quarterback. So Nick sort of where that leaves us is you talked to basically anybody off. Annabelle there are three draft quarterbacks that are sort of No Doubt top prospects that have separated themselves from the rest of the pack and that's Trevor Lawrence Justin fields, and and and Wilson the kid from BYU BYU. So you have those three kids those three guys. And then you look at okay and I did this in my column the other day just to sort of reset for people where we are and I have I have six teams that are major players for starters and let's see if you agree with these Nick. All right, we know the Jaguars need one. Wish hey, at least that'll make you should make Gardner Minshew available, which I would be I would be happy with that. If I were the Patriots or at least thought I would be happy with adding him as part of the solution or taking a look at it the Panthers who had the 8th overall pick, they will be extremely aggressive quarterback. I've been hearing that four months. They have the 8th overall pick. They have a basically a full complement of pics available. They have the 8th in a second third fourth have you that would possibly make Teddy Bridgewater available and maybe will Grier neither of which I'm extremely excited about if I'm the Patriots you're the Patriots. 18th.

"It also have ran for a touchdown. What's crazy is that he was going throw fourth row with Tom Brady took me a second ever start in the NFL and imagine that your second ever NFL start came in the playoffs against Tom Brady like man, that's crazy to be any not really did he do? Well, he showed up he kept his team game and this is a guy who was the XFL Saint Louis battlehawks backup quarterback last year. He played the XFL and wasn't even a starter in the XFL, but he came to the NFL package. Outplayed great and I oh man, I really loved it. I believe he earned himself a contract for next year whether it's in Washington or somewhere else if I'm Washington, I'm not letting the guy leave. I'm like, hey, we'll give you some money off saying our team like we want you here and it's kind of crazy cat 6 weeks ago Taylor heinicke was taking college classes at his alma mater Old Dominion finishing up a mathematics degree. Like what am I crazy to me? And also another narrative here that is honest and true. Is that watching Taylor heinicke frankly Shred the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and it wasn't like the Buccaneers were bad. It was that how long was making throw after throw after throw into Tight Windows? Like just really great prose and really great decisions. And I know you can say well it makes the Buccaneers defense like that. I think honestly it just made everything. Wow heinicke can play And the reality is that what it really did here is made it put Dwayne Haskins to shame Dwayne Haskins got cut by the Washington football team earlier this year. He's a former first-round pick who played for them and you know, who your quarterback Dwayne Haskins never once in Washington looked very prepared or like he was doing a lot of work off the field. This guy Taylor heinicke came in with a couple of weeks notice. Learn the Playbook. I think you'll do it from the Panthers. Remember he played for Scott Turner who's the offensive coordinator in Washington and Carolina. He knew the offense already. But my point is he looked way more prepared than Dwayne Haskins ever looked and that's not get a first-round quarterback got embarrassed by Taylor heinicke playing way better than you could I just met and I I also got to say that washing did anybody see Chase young the rookie defensive end from Washington celebrating with Taylor heinicke like he had with Taylor heinicke ran for a touchdown. You saw you know, Chase young runs up. He's putting his finger on the guys back like this is my quarterback and it just shows how long Desperate for a quarterback Washington as they just want somebody to believe in somebody that they can trust will make plays and be good.
