"Pat Boyle on David Kaplan Daniels adamant. the group shot no shot is that the the executive producer chair and the great Christopher black you heard on the pre game show last night the dollar did a really nice job on the post game show. is at the control and honey in black in the pre game show said when this Taylor Gabriel gonna have his coming out party yeah hoodie black we're we're really yeah we gather they do a great job together one aside bread Biggs tweeted a video of a team Hicks leaving his got the knee and they're not sure he can go on Sunday and a keen Hicks took a shot a personal shot at Biggs. tweeted a picture of them made a sarcastic rude mean uncalled for comment. there must be history between those two guys. Brad's not a friend of mine I'm not defending my friend here I'm just defending a colleague in the business the king Hicks you're better than that and you owe him an apology that was a low class mean on call for thing to do so I would hope that a keen Hicks when he goes on with water when Sylvie is that this afternoon Danny usually is when he goes on this afternoon he says five o'clock I write I let my emotions get the best of me and I want to apologize to Brad big then pick up the phone and be a man and call him because that was low class a keen Hicks low class yeah I don't agree with with what a keen sat on social media my question to you would be are you good with. all members of the media kind of. using their phone to kind of weigh in on where an injury is I mean is that fair game walking to the to the boss. yeah I mean I'm just curious I don't have a problem with it he told me he's walking out of the shower different story but walking to the bus and everyone in Chicago was like oh god we need our pro ball defensive tackle can he play on Sunday against Dalvin cook one of the five best running backs in the sport I don't have a problem with. I don't have a problem I think a key mix always been there yeah and and there may be more to their relator relationship and no doubt just exchange so that's my just my thoughts on the Biggs three one two three three two three seven seven six you look if hex for some reason can't go Bobbi Massey still do dealing with the vertigo any Pinheiro was limping and hobbling big time yep..

"Around mature busy a Michelin all he's going to get in his route is a top and is seen here now let's watch the job and the right to do was come up when you see the rush this is what he has to turn it's a Maserati Mitch you watch his eyes here he's looking down the field and he's trying to figure out can you get here inside or ms Nicole coverage it's not open so we see him step up in the pocket and get outside right now the decision could be okay let me get the double right here to Montgomery to allow him to run but here's what you do step a new draft early in the draft they go to number two to get in he gets here and watch. Taylor Gabriel as he goes on to John Josh Norman these are the places that he needs to make the three touchdown throws tonight all outside of the package which you see some of those opportunities he has to move the ball down the field you heard her say can this offense to move the ball down the field with from the packet making plays and running the football and they haven't been able to do that so from that you can't get into the play action we're terrible of being patient and life okay and then you see guys take these monumentally it's like I'm homes and grating against him is dumb because he's historic right but if when you don't see him taking strides forward at what point do you really begin to get concerned organizationally if if that's where your your your concern this year and the reason being is when you saw things last year was a lot of times he used his late but he didn't make the big plays in the passing game when he needed to this year was supposed to be the steps there's all the things in training camp about him throwing multiple interceptions their practice because Nagy tried to push it down the field and now you see this season coming into this game no touchdown passes and it took five turnovers by your team to get points scored admitted to base he doesn't change doesn't step up we already know he's compared to the other two guys in the Holmes and Watson he's going to start being compared to guys like leaf into markets Russell as well wow. that's out of bounds yeah I didn't mind his break down he's an intelligent football guy breaking down certain things may just be better at yeah a great loss at the end I thought was a dumb cherry on top of the Sunday I thought the Sunday was pretty good the rest of the guys would what is so out of bounds about comparing him to two guys that were drafted very high and we're boss in the NFL like I don't he's not comparing him to the Ryan leaf the alcoholic part like we watched a thirty for thirty it's a great documentary that stuff all happen to run leave after he failed on the football team I think that's what right do his initial two premise Danny was if I'm a bears defensive player I am more worried tonight.

"Then they come on and say that like you want to benefit you want to give the benefit to an athletic play bowling so Taylor Gabriel catches the ball and he gets his to feed it but as it bringing the ball into him his right hand goes off the ball in any kind of re grabs it very briefly yeah but that you could see the book in front of the when here like I don't think they're gonna give it to him as a bear fan I didn't think the restaurant gives him the role the fish on ESPN last night that you know what they're they're going to reward him for a great athletic play here and and let let him have this one let him have this one even though the real special said his hand came up the wall see our top of the show we think in the past two three four years that we've been ruled not catch we'll go back to Dez Bryant like if you want to you want to give somebody the benefit of the doubt for making an athletic move Dez Bryant. that catch today is a catch. that's an athletic move a Jesse James the Steelers so tight in guess the patriots that's an athletic move. yes they have us so can view it mentally because when you watch it you like that's a good catch that's a touchdown but then you also know but his hand came off the boss of the probably going to not say the touchdown so it's actually not a touchdown while it is a great catch and then they're like oh no I actually will let it go it is one now so you don't know whether you're coming or going anymore with the catch and the fact that they're going to give you the benefit of the doubt because it's an athletic catch I mean I'm fine with it I wonder down through history how many touchdowns would've been touchdowns. just because of the way we officiated game now because I remember in fact I don't remember growing up where I went said catcher in height he was just like let's catch and that's that's the key drop that's not okay did he did he survive the ground you know like all these. different definitions and descriptions have made it more confusing for people but when I go back to that I'll go to my grave sin does Bryant scored a touchdown against Green Bay and that was an athletic move he was trying to score. a couple of tweets what's the difference between Mitchell to Biscayan E. lie manning. check the stats. well. misty's younger in you he could be more he lied we know who he is any like can't run for miscues at least athletic also some people saying what if a tree misty threw for thirty touchdowns two interceptions. through for forty two hundred yards strong defense decent running game yeah if I'm a bears fan all signed up for that right now he's never going to be more homes but we'll be respectable yeah thank you to twenty min the whole a good JJ watt will join is coming up twenty.

Taylor Gabriel had a breakout game in fact he joins to other NFL players to this point in the season who have also had three touchdowns in one game Mike Evans that happened in a losing effort for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday and we did talk about that but also see me walk in remember in the season opener I think me what can set three touchdowns courtesy of Patrick my home so right now with Taylor Gabriel having is a career best football game first two game ever in which he catches three touchdowns he joins Sammy and Mike as the only three who got at least three receiving scores this season but that's perfect right because we're through week number three it's after hours here on CBS sports radio Jeff Joni act with the calls on the bears radio network but let's be honest as much is Taylor Gabriel may have been a good candidate for Monday and be paid it was the day that was the star of the show in DC on Monday. "On Taylor Gabriel Okie and what what do you know about a key Max. yeah what's the Gabriel to keep confirm can caution so you know that's what it is and I want to see what the status is this week it is just for a week before you plan to buy games I came to explicate I think this is something he's been dealing with you know I haven't been able to get anything confirm the last couple weeks but he's been. not out on the field as much as he has in the past and he's always been doing a lot of re have at and household during the week any just at times has come off the field been slow to get up you could tell he's battling through something you have a lot of credit for battling through the way he is but mendeecees optimistic that he'll be able to fight through the thick not something that occurred on a single play tonight and something that could you know and the season or anything like that I think will get scared when you hear that with a knee injury so I think it's just something that a Kleenex is gonna have to continue the battle now he did why did watch leave the stadium and I and he was limping very heavily but that is the media week following the game that he did not finish so not very surprising there I mean you both can speak to this and have posed especially with the knee I'm how how how much does that affect you as the season goes along role in week three here now you do have a buy coming up but that's not easy to deal with isn't. you know I I I'm just telling you I I I could have sworn I saw a walking boot off not in NY so I look all these things in a big guys. eighty four degrees high humidity they come on pretty quick you know what I'm saying especially when you're tired. at one point it was thirty one to twenty eight to three or whatever you know you kind of think in your head all of the things come over I need that kind of yeah take it easy we'll see he'll be fine he he's not going to just get on. get in get in the way of him having you know a big impact on on the season all right so job one tonight was to the county you know keep are wobbly quarterback you know headed down the the game play on his progressions what it what did you think you saw especially with that lovely pick at the end of the game. yeah this was one of those games where the tape is is not going to match what the final numbers were I mean only fixing completion two one thirty one yards and three touchdowns and a quarterback rating at one sixteen I don't make one good corner I thought he played very well in the second quarter and was was accurate in that quarter and the throw to Taylor Gabriel that was originally called the complete reversed was a great play. in the first quarter he is accuracy was all over the place everything went higher low nothing was where it should have been and you know I see like that got corrected in the second. and then all sudden that intersection happened the answer is basically what I thought see that live you have one on one coverage there you try to throw a fade and I think the last second for some reason he tried to go back shoulder and obviously there wasn't enough separation and may have been a penalty there but look you can't throw that Pat short of the end zone and expect a wide receiver to have any chance to catch the ball and you can expect the official to throw penalty on a hold if you're not even get the ball into the end zone so for saving guides isn't game is a microcosm of what Mrs careers been so far which is. it accuracy issues Danny has a good stretch for it looks great he makes one highlight throw that you're like wow that's the guy you alliance and then you come back down there with the new interception that quite frankly the excusable so this game is kinda I was careers mental park. that's incredibly spot on right there it is exactly what all this way it looked to me I mean you don't someone throws he he can't miss in self defense and the one of the phone was was you know it was it was out of bounds in may Gabriel made a great adjustment getting it back almost got him out of bounds but in that that intersection you can't throw that day Jay you know Norman is looking at you you always told that if the corners back is to you and he has no idea where the ball is. I mean anyone by the way no we you know. they want so much to biscuits we were worried about tonight it was the game plan a bad name and we were puzzled again you know to recall one four attempts minus two yards OB is throwing things around the studio here saying Hey you got this hot shot little super back put corn in the slot let the running back the the running back what is it takes so much to get Maggie to try to you know do what should be done. yeah I don't know I mean it did seem like they went to Montgomery a little late in the game and the results and I were great I mean averages five point two yards per carry on thirteenth champs a lot of that came on twenty five yard run but you know that guy has a habit of getting what I love the called the dirty yards where there's not much there he still managed to get something out of it to recall any like the bouncers to the outside usually runs out of bounds for a loss Sir you know not a whole lot of game unless you get a break a big one so it's a little bit more blue your boss would call in or is Montgomery I think we can all agree looks like a pretty good running back who's got patients can find open all can buy yards were not there so you know. this is tough guys because I always say it's a lot easier to call plays when your quarterback is accurate and the offense of line is blocky everyone that's not happening it's really hard to call right away so I I I get why certainly I understand the frustration the more the Montgomery late tonight are waiting that long to go to on but I still think more so than anything your quarterback need to play better and that and the players on the field to make quite and I'm the best thing that happened. today. the best thing that happened is that we played the Washington Redskins. we needed that big time believe me we did yeah we needed this victory sold very very very bad and no matter how we played or whatever we got through you know and we want but we needed this victory to be to own one because again we're gonna have some formal formidable opponents coming in whether we're at home or away and then I just for the life for me do not understand why this coaching staff with their game plans why we we score some touchdowns today but that's not our thing. two games we scored one touchdown in a twenty nineteen season going into this third game and then if you couple the last game of last year to playoff game well we scored one touchdown. we have a problem putting six points on the board we have a problem scoring touchdowns that is a fact it's right in front of us and until we can solve that. through a a complete overhaul of our office of game plan and a complete overhaul of our thinking of how we should attack on an offense of game plan we're gonna see this week after week after week and hope and pray that our defense gets the take aways and we somehow sneak out a last second win or win by a couple of points that's not how you play football in the National Football League that's just not how it's done then that's what I see what's happening. yeah you guys did the this is definitely one of those games I think we've had a handful mom said Barbara last year and a half where you go thank god Khalil Mack is on this roster right. the guy the guys use the game Recker any had one of those games tonight the seem to happen a lot on prime time and they seem to have a lot of the games were Mister risky you are not playing it fast so again thank god he's on the roster right because you can imagine this team tonight's without him the injury sixteen X. you're an album all Nichols you started to majors piling up here a little bit which is something they didn't have last year that balls on the watch you're going north shore week you're going to like you speaking of that before you go can you update Bobbi Massey was an active tonight on the offense of line in any Pinero who did Mr kick tonight was out there battling is way. yes with Bobby very unexpected then you is inactive and it turned out that he got to the stadium today and was experiencing vertigo that according to Matt Nagy and so this really came down to really beau beau last half hour or so before they had to make the inactives and you just couldn't go so they put Cornelius looking back there when I watch you pay too closely the Nike was fine didn't really notice them all out that's usually a good thing on the offense of line meanwhile with any Pinheiro if a pinched nerve is needs so I think that's why you saw the bears go ahead blown out there that's the kind of thing you can't really make worse it's just pain tolerance equality of a muscle or something I gather you could aggravate or or do more damage to it so I think it's just a matter of fighting and he obviously was limping when you're walking but it takes a pretty girl obviously did miss that one but Hey wasn't me for this year and I think if you know someone of a good thing that he he misses the tech comes back make the next one Amy dealing with injuries so that would just be something the monitor again here on a short week hopefully he's not in so much pain I get the Vikings on Sunday they have great stuff travel safe will raise your WGN radio dot com and get out of this wall hello hello my brother. hi guys thank you next week Adam hall Gandhi and fed ex field in Washington DC we'll "I thought that it's. but to catastrophic when I got I took to glaring mistakes a coach made was in personnel I don't know why court Errol Patterson is consistent something you mentioned awhile ago I don't know I mean you can figure out ways to give him the ball splitting him out and running him the number of reps as an on the edge wide receivers just I don't think it's a good play like it's a good approach he's a big guy he's not a fluid route runner we saw that when he was with the the the Vikings we saw that with the New England Patriots and yet they consistently ran him as a like a legit wide receiver and it doesn't take you very long as well and this is not a disrespectful comment to my Davis but it doesn't take you any time at all to look at the filming and realize the data Montgomery's your most talented running back right Mike Davis by the way with Fred Huebner tonight from Bannerman's in Bartlett no listen there's a role for the eight there's definitely a role for him bots I'm telling you right now David Montgomery getting the limited number of touch is I don't know why it was but he's by far their most elusive and most explosive back I'm so I took it from a from a a personnel decision they made two big mistakes a not getting the ball enough to David Montgomery and be. I don't know why they keep trying to force. Darryl Patterson is one of your wide receivers if you were going to use. if you need someone on the on the parameters white give that give that spotted Yuvan when he's a more polished a more accomplished wide receiver than Cordero power we're in and I know they're different but there's someone tweeted at that I follow about Anthony Miller snaps but that's a glaring thing I think it was in seventeen total staff down easy her I don't know did they choose not to play him as much he didn't look hurt to me and what I saw there were he was the one guy that got ignored there were several routes where he was ignored where you can. that was last year couple times yeah but the offense of line had the worst game that I've seen them collectively place since I started since last year either the Packers really gave them the business I mean. all of these into thing I should do about Mitch was I came away maybe it's because I've lowered the bar a little bit I don't think that all of their offense of issues were directly related to the quarterback so some of this stuff can be cleaned up like they only rolled Mitch out one time one time to get on the engine was completion to the sideline of the the Packers sideline to Taylor Gabriel I don't know why you're not moving him a little bit more with that said the game plan is simple I mean the the Packers had a spy on him quite a bit and they also did a very nice job trying to keep him pinned down in there everybody that you see is going to make him play from the pocket that's why some misdirection.

"Can be really good Taylor Gabriel Anthony Miller I would like to see Japan waves get a chance and we'll see if he does or not at all last year he had a couple of games he impressed in pre season last year did you get all excited to pre season much about wins last year that we didn't see him so again nothing that happens in the pre season means anything until the regular season starts and they actually know that the coaches do defensively the biggest question is is this defense going to be as impactful as last year's and when you see the number of take away as this bears team had at E. Carmen's rattle off the numbers and Sylvia and while everybody's rattled off the numbers it's all in happens almost every year if you listen to our collection when go Monday through Friday you'll hear goalie junior talk about it there's always like an eleven takeover drop after the team that leads the NFL in take aways one year from the from one year to the next it it drops like eleven so that means that the repairs are not probably going to have as many take aways as they did last year they led the NFL in take aways interceptions and that's probably not going to happen it would be nice if it did but it probably won't but this defense is loaded and with the additions of Rocklin Dixon buster screen taken over free agent a mouse and Bryce Callahan it's very very good it's a really good defense again keep everybody healthy I wanna see Danny Trevathan play every game this year I want to see the improvement a row quad Smith I want to see what Khalil Mack could do after he's had a training camp with the bears and did what he can do and the field that's not worried about any of it until September fifth when they play the Packers soul it's difficult going through all these pre season game for the first one starting at Thursday because last year remember how we were frustrated because we did see really any of the bears regulars play in the preseason I don't know how many will see this year and I don't know if we're going to you know what how we're gonna react Friday morning we'll be here talking about it did we see it often without seeing it off why are we watching these games why they play preseason games and I know black and a dollar talking about it this morning and a dollar so well the preseason games out of your sight on the importance of it but what brought up a great a great point colleges don't have preseason games they've scrimmages data with our guys are they play the games why the NFL needs of I know it always comes down to money now the bears off the bears offense of coaches office coordinator mark Helfrich said something this week and I just wanted to know what you guys think mark Helfrich really likes the bears defense he knows that his offense in training camp is going up against this bears defense and he thinks it's one of the best he's ever seen.

"And I printed up today. I've got this Congo bears depth charts even after all of their picks yesterday the four picks they made and you'll look here the bears going out and they get Mike Davis. The unrestricted free agent from Seattle they bring him in. They trade Jordan Howard. They have to recall when they also still have take on my cell. That's your how long he'll be with the team. David Montgomery is picked. And then yesterday they also picked up CARA white in the draft. So they have a lots of running backs lots of death that running back musician. Matt nagy? What it does is number one? They're all different. And and I like that I think that it enables us as coaches the kind of figure out what guys do well, we have good idea right now. But with might be a new and then with David coming in bien new. In curious coming in. They all have a little bit of a different mix. With was exactly what it is. And so we're going to test it out and see and feel it out. But it gives you options and their weapons in my opinion. They're all weapons they can all they can play on every down you feel good about where they're at. And we got we as coaches got to figure out exactly what it is. And then there's only, you know, there's so many touches you gotta balance that and that is the difficult part. But it's a lot easier to do when you have when you have that, you know, with these guys have different strikes. Now, I mentioned numerous times throughout the course of the year that I am not the biggest college football guy, watch NFL from the time. You know, the first game of the day starts all the way until the last game is over don't miss any of the NFL games. But college football, I'm not the guy at of dollar Chris black rod they were here. They were the guys break down the college football for you along with Jay hood all season long doing it on Saturday. Days when they had out to four wins at all those things throughout the course of the year. I am eager to see what the this kid. Montgomery can do. I'm eager to see what Riley Ridley can do. Okay. Riley. Ridley the bears pick in the fourth round the wide receiver out of Georgia, which is interesting because they've gone really heavy with the SEC. And even though I don't watch a lot of college football. I know that if you're drafting players from the SEC, you're doing a good thing, you're doing the smart thing because the SEC is without a doubt the best football in college football. So she's a cough there. So the bears go on out yesterday. And in the fourth round, they take Riley Ridley four star prospect graduated early from high school led the BULLDOGS with forty four catches five hundred seventy yards four touchdowns last season classic possession receiver. And that's a good thing. I mentioned. How I picked up our leads. And so I grabbed that went to our leads and said, okay, give me some good and bad about Riley. Ridley here's what they say. Ridley is the top pass catcher albeit in a run first run second pass third offense pro caliber route runner his ball skills, her near top tier which can somewhat hide is. Lackluster movement tools. He won't burn by anyone in may struggle to consistently create space between heaven the defender underneath. But he is a safe bet to have at least to at least be a reliable possession receiver. Look strong plays strong aggressive and hands catcher that she owes ideal timing his reach for the ball physical runner with intentions after the catch that he's got intentions after the catch. He knows where he's going top end speed. And quickness or merely average will have a hard time getting open consistently especially downfield. He can be caught from behind makes too much time to get off the jam at the line. Scrimmage. That'll be something. The bears will definitely have to be be showing taking care of. But if especially if he's a slack guy. He's a possession receiver a slight guy. Then maybe there's a possibility that he'd be able to get off a little bit. So the depth chart at the wide receiver position think about it two years ago the bears in John FOX's last year. The bears were struggling because they had no receivers. Listen to this list of receivers now. Alan Robinson, Taylor Gabriel. Anthony miller. Giovan whims. Also, cut out of Georgia that they drafted last year in the offseason, they picked up Cordeiro Patterson and Marvin hall, and then they draft Riley. Ridley there are a couple other guys that are on the depth charges Chicago Bears. But look at it from going to know I'd receivers to now there is definitely going to be Kappa Titian at that wide receiver position. And that's a really really good thing for the Chicago Bears having some competition having guys looking to get in having speed the bears are a team that were never a speed team. Now the fast quick team. That's a really good thing. Ryan pace talking about drafting Riley, Ridley giving his opinion. The railroad. Compare both very. Of take their illegal trek through needed. I think we wanted to this with that in mind like the rosters at a point where we don't have to force anything. And we, and we, you know, that's vice at every trapped, but to have the player that caliber there and comfortably Bela take him was really don't bring her because he was so horrible. And that's a great thing. It's a guy that was high on their board. He was there. They didn't have to make any more trades. I was happy with the trade. The only thing I have on the trade is that I was wondering and people, you know, how people on Twitter are, you know, how people on social media are they thought I was being a jerk which ill at times. I can I can do that. That's not a problem. There are definitely times where I can say things on Twitter and in may be misunderstood. But I wanna go back and see if I can find exactly how I said it. Let me see her. Here's what I said on Twitter after the bears made the trade and then a little bit later on in the draft where the bears would have picked it eighty seven the patriots Damian Harris the running back out of Alabama. I said I need the football experts to explain to me why David Montgomery was a better pick for the Chicago Bears, Damian Harris, I'll hang up and wait for my answer. And I got all kinds of responses people saying all you being smart guy, and this and this, and then we're trying to break I just wanted to answer. Because as I mentioned, and I always preface it. I am no college football expert. I seen much of Alabama. I did not see a lot of state. I did see Damian Harris breakthrough line of scrimmage and take off and nobody catch him. I also saw that the running back that shares. Snaps shared snaps in Alabama. When in the first round, Damian Harris was still there in the second. So I was just wondering because how many times as a bears fan? Have you? Seen the bears running back breakthrough scrimmage. He goes down the line and gets caught Jordan Howard. You saw get caught. Well, David Montgomery. I guess it will matter in the long run. It doesn't matter. You win games. Go to the playoffs. The head of the Super Bowl doesn't matter. If you're running back caught. But I kinda thought that maybe they'd get a guy that would take off and run. But we'll see obviously, the only thing that matters. Is that Ryan pace got his guy Ryan pace knew that listen, there's a, you know, a running back win three picks before Buffalo's coming up, and they're gonna take a running back. I wanna get my guy. We gotta make the deal, and they did they made the trade. And let's see how it works out. David Montgomery from all reports. We've not heard anybody say that he's not a hard worker. We've not heard anybody the one thing. I was did. Which surprised the heck I state Senate NCW record for the least amount of fumbles in the season. He's a guy that can take a hit. It doesn't lose the ball. Listen to this. Not only does he take a hit lose the ball. But Montgomery the toughest running back. Take down over the last two seasons forcing a whopping one hundred eighty five miss tackles carries alone since twenty seventeen. So the bears got the guy they wanted. They got David Montgomery in and yesterday quickly going over some of the other picks, we've mentioned Riley Ridley than in the sixth round, the grabbed cornerback Duke Shelley out of Kansas state. Agai Baresi is slack corner, which they need after Bryce Callahan leaves now he'll be fill in because they did pick up a couple of guys to fill in those spots. And hopefully, they work than in the seventh round. They took care white the running back out of Florida Atlantic and another cornerback Stephen Denmark out of Valdosta state in the seventh round. So the bears. Also, did something a little thing is no one's talking about it much. And always in the paper today by the also signed another kicker, San Diego State kicker. John barren he was an undrafted free agents. So another kicker comes into camp for the Chicago Bears. And that's exactly what they need guys to work on those spots guys to try to figure it out after what they did with Cody parkey last year, and Matt Nagy said, yeah, it was time, and they had no choice, but to move on from one Cody parkey, did I'm just gonna be upfront with the whole. Picking things that the elephant in the room. It's not weary talk to our team about it. It's good. We're moving for its there's been so many examples in the last night three to four weeks of whether it's an individual accomplishment in sports, or whether it's a team accomplishment that I can just throw right now that something bad happened last year or in previous years, and it turned into a great deal the following year. So we're this right here is half on half empty. That's where we're having now. So this kicking stuff in the field goals and everything like that. It we're open. So we can use the, hey, the Cody parkey missed. That's okay. It doesn't hurt me. It's fine. It's it's good. So you guys can say. So use it talk about it. It's it's a healthy healthy thing. So we feel good about it. And we're gonna get to cigarette. Boy, it sounded like he was going very fast and trying to measure words, we didn't swear say anything a little out of the ordinary for Matt Nagy. But that was interesting hearing him talk about the kickers. So they did bring a guy in San Diego State kicker. John barren as I mentioned undrafted free agent kicker. He is going to be there fourth kicker and camp they brought other guys in Chris Blewitt, Redford Jones was the first guy that Elliott fry they brought in about a week or so ago. So Barron was the there were two kickers taken in the draft bolt in the fifth round. Matt gay going to Tampa and Austin seabird going to Cleveland. So people were wondering what the bears are going to do with that kicker position. And they bring another guy in so now the lobby introduced to the media probably Monday or Tuesday, you'll hear from all of these guys or at least a lot of them. You'll hear more from. Ryan pace and Matt Nagy over the next couple of days, and then it's quiet for a little while rookie minicamps. There's TA's, and it's a long way before the bear state on the Packers on that Thursday and cannot wait. But the bears in my opinion picked up a wide receiver. They can use away a running back. They're definitely going to use right away. And as people, you know, they don't forget. But there were no first and second round picks this year for the bears. Their first pick was traded to Oakland for Khalil Mack that seemed to work out. Okay. And their second round pick was traded last year to pick up wide receiver Anthony Miller. Well, Anthony Miller gets that shoulder figured out and everything else than he showed what he can do and he can get to the end zone for the bears Khalil Mack. Without a doubt. One of the best moves the bears have made. So when you see the bears draft picks this year just remember that didn't have a I in a second. But Ryan pace did the right thing. The year before made the moves bring goes. Is in he's got Khalil Mack. And the Miller now for quite a long time three one two three three two three seven seven six going to get some baseball talk. But we have some baseball breaking news on the south side. Dow the other day ally has injured himself. It was not pretty for those who must have watched besides pain because.

2019 NFL Draft prospects

"We're about three weeks from the NFL draft. It's been an interesting off season. If you were bears fan last season. It was interesting the bears gone out and done a lot of things this off-season than to talk about that and much much more. We bring in our guy NFL writer, Eric at home. Nice enough to jump on and Eric tonight. Everything's good. Yeah. It was just thinking these last three weeks for the drafter get a feel like any turn into here that always does every single year seems like it takes a long time here in Chicago. We've always been interested in the draft. Because usually the bears were bad a high draft pick. And now they were smart last year and traded pigs got gotta Khalil Mack. And now they've not picking until the third round unless they make a move. But I mean, I think it seems like all their other moves have been in you know, in free agency and bringing. Players in. So it's not nearly the draft excitement here in Chicago. Like, it was when just imagine if the draft was here, and it was no bears draft pick for you know, for the first day and a half down. Admit what difficult I think it would be legal to do that. The office. Like, let's about this. The bears probably will make their selection around nine o'clock. I think on Friday night. So you settle in. You know, maybe, you know, get some food get something to eat whatever it's going to be a while. I don't think they'll be moving up. They don't have a lot of picks. So yeah, it's gotta be patience is virtue for bears fans outside of kicker because kickers not real answer. When you talk about to what's the biggest need for the bears. Hang into the draft. It's a great question. You know, I think it probably, you know, I think what they did themselves. A lot of a good favor by refunding airless, you know, and just you know for a one year deal. Right. We know he's the third outside guy. But still it just eliminated one spot that you have to kinda reach four and not reach four. But you know, have to hope that somebody is at that position waiting for you in the draft. So it probably slimmed down to two maybe three or four positions. I would think running back has to be on that list. You know, I personally would like to see. Them. Get more death on the offense of line. And I think the secondary either corner or safety would be a spot they can look at and their few defensive action, the strap that I think could play, you know, cover the flight and also places safety. So there's some versatile guys in this great year for either position a corner safety, but it's deep enough where they could possibly get somebody there. So I would just, you know, spit balling kinda Dr throwing I would say those it's likely that they could be picking one of those three spots that eighty seven toys have you ever seen as I'm asking the question. I know we've all seen it. But have you? I was gonna ask you if you've seen the situation where teams running back like Jordan Howard performed relatively well and was light by many people. And but basically the head coach had no use form at this point. And that's why they ended up moving them. Yeah. I mean, obviously, totally different situation from what happened with Levy on bell. You know, those are the exceptions to the rule, but you know, it is one of those. Position where if you're not one of the elite top, you know, five or six guys in the league at your spot. You know, there's only so much teams willing to kind of sink into that dishing. I know that there have been back strapped in the top. You know, five ten picks several years, it's not gonna have this year. But it's happened. A lot in recent history or often more often than I would've expected. I know Todd Gurley got his big deal. I know other people have gotten pretty good money. That's dishing bell sign this off season. But there's a drop off, you know. And so I think if you're not special, you know, that maybe are deemed expendable depending on the system. And so you know, I can see both sides why they moved on. And I think they feel like with Mike Davis Torri Cohen, they add one more the draft. You know, maybe Ryan dollars trading Kampe preseason hero again or something like that. But you know, we'll see I think they will try to add at least one more. And then maybe an underrated free agent to add on top of that. Daryl. Patterson is. Is an interesting guy. But he's been an interesting guys come into the league. Other people have found out ways to use them and the patriots even lined him up in the backfield as a running back. Do you expect Matt Nagy to do that? Also, not only just swing passes and give them in and around and things like that. And also given the ball out of the running back position. Yeah. It's a great option. I think you know, the patriots really the first team to really unlocked at running ability. I mean like you said when he was in Oakland, you know, other places he was running those kind of gadget runs and things like that. But I mean, they line them up as a tailback and got buffalo game was it was crazy to watch. He had twenty something carries. And so, yeah, it was it was a strange thing to think about you know, a six to two hundred twenty pound receiver who could run like the wind lining up kind of power back. But he can do it. I think that really added to the appeal. He's the perfect Matt Nagy player. They'll run kick off, you know, he could be a wide receiver if you need to. I don't think he's more than. A number four. But still, you know, having that deeper out option is important. And I think that's you know, that kinda speed if Taylor Gabriel is out there, they may not have that exact replica that so it's different version of speed. And then as you said we saw last year that he can be running back, you know, in cut a break glass in case for -mergency situation. Seahawks quarterback. Russell Wilson wants a new deal. He gave the Seahawks April fifteenth as a deadline to get that deal done. Do you think he gets done in what type of deal? Do you think Russell Wilson who get from the Seahawks? So here's my hypothetical question here. Like what they let's say if April sixteenth by parents diversity, by the way. Let's. Let's say April sixteenth. They offer him. The richest TV deal of all time. You're gonna say oh sorry. The deadline. Hey, understand that this thing happened in January. We didn't really hear about it until very recently. But meeting his, you know, giving them a deadline, but you know, it just doesn't make a lot of stints. It's not a if something magical happens on that calendar day, not as some kind of contract, you know, bonus kicks in or anything else that would prevent them from getting this thing done, or if there's some kind of you know, league deadline or something like that. It's not July fifteenth and the franchise player, so it's just one of those kind of subtle threats from the from the Wilson camp saying, hey, don't forget about me, baby. You know, I still want to get my deal. I still want to get this thing done. You know, there's an opportunity for him to really cash in. And also kind of hold them hostage a little bit. I suspect it there's a good chance that gets done. But for months now there have been whispers that you know, maybe the Seahawks aren't quite prepared to pay him. What what a lot of people think he's worth it would at least entertain the idea of. What could we get you know, trade for him? Just theoretically, what would he get you know, is worth three first Thursay? We're still talking about a thirty thirty one year old guy. And there's still a handful of teams that really badly need that franchise different speaking quarterback. So I I don't know. I still think it's gonna get done 'cause that's city loves them. Even if a lot of past teammates were the biggest Russell Wilson fan. They know how much he means for the team another couple minutes with NFL writer, Eric at home and Erica week or so ago, rob gronkowski decided to retire. A lot of people on Twitter and everywhere else going, okay. The best tight end. Maybe you'll ever play the game has retired. Who's the best tight end in the NFL? Now who do you like? Yeah. I mean, that's a great question. To kinda depends what you want. So if you guys can do with grunk did which is being impact players blocker, and as receiver, you know. And and think about all the calls that were made against gronk over the years. He was kinda like the Cam Newton of the tight end position like say what that's not interference. Though, he just, you know, even with that work in Gascony was so special. I love the fact that Travis Kelsey can be as dangerous, you know, the last couple of years he's actually been a better receiver than gronk. No question about it. But he's not nearly the blocker that he is. You know, we see some of these young pass catching tight. I mean, George Kittle out in San Francisco at times has flashed like he could be the best to way tight in the league because he blocks his tail off. He's got great receiving chops. And really the only thing that's kind of held them back injuries. I don't necessarily think you can have a long career. So this might be one of those debate that we kinda have for years. I don't think there's any one guy that fills that checked off all the boxes like like gronk did. And he had injury issues too. But still when he was out there. There's really no doubt. And I don't know that that that one guy even though there are some great blockers. It's about staying receivers you rarely see both. Do you think that Jason Witten can still be productive? I don't know man this. I wanted to I know Jason Witten the player, it was outstanding. He was just so consistent day in and day. I knew what you're going to get from. He was probably, you know, he was unsexy version of gronk and that he could block and catch fast but a year off his age. I know they say they're going to come in just and all that. His feeling this thing could kind of turn south, and we could see 'cause he looked slow by the end when he was out there last time. He just wasn't the same guy. Eric, we appreciate jumping for few minutes. We'll hopefully those go to slow the next couple of weeks. We'll talk to you soon. All right. Enjoy the run up to the draft guys. Thanks. They got home jumping on talking NFL. Like Whitten wasn't good at the end. Then like fancy players, look like, wait. Hold on. Really? Like, what is she some Witten really gonna bring to the Cowboys? Here's a guy wanted to bring up to you. Because this is a guy that I thought when he got to the NFL was going to have a bigger impact than he's head and OJ Howard at the tight end. Okay. Because what we saw in college. We thought. Okay. The when this guy gets here Dowd using is just because the quarterback situation and the problems have had do you think he can still become a dominant tight end in this league? Maybe because he did it in college. And you assume that that body type in his speed is is ability to get down field. And you know, James Winstons been not very good. No. And I think a lot of people misread what Tampa Bay is doing. I don't think he's there for the long haul. I think Tampa Bay if they could find someone else to be their quarterback. They would go with that person. Yeah. So whether or not it's trying to find a quarterback in this year's draft. Or or or planning for the future? Elsewhere. But like I don't trust him as Winston do.

"The unofficial numbers twenty six for forty three. Good for three hundred three yards and two sacks. Eight nine point six quarterback rating. Nick foles on the other side twenty five for forty good for two hundred and sixty six yards two touchdowns. Two hundred exceptions and one sack as eagles win sixteen to fifteen as far as the bears running the football. I was wondering as the game went on. Why the bears were not running the football a little bit more. But this is something I've been asking a lot of this year. Anyway, I think it's picked up late November into December. But again in this spot Jordan Howard, ten carries for thirty five yards. He led the team in rushing Taylor. Gabriel to for twenty sixty five yards rushing. Total for the bears on eighteen carries. No touchdown. From that. Allen Robinson was was big today. It's the Allen Robinson that. I think all of us have been waiting for ten receptions, get five hundred forty three yards and a touchdown. Tila. Gabriel four for thirty seven. Josh Bellamy got Josh Bellamy on special teams. That's an interesting wrinkle didn't expect to see that. I thought that there was a lot more Ben Brown occur and more Adam Shaheen than I expected. I didn't expect him to to be able to get the balls often as they did. But they did and Torri Cohen is he had three receptors go for twenty seven. Yards. You love for him to be able to get the ball a bit more because he's such a playmaker. Very similar to Darren sproles. What he brings to this football team the same way. So as I mentioned we're going to hear from Matt Nagy the head coach for the Chicago Bears. Also, Mitchell Trubisky in that locker room right here on ESPN one thousand ESPN app. John hood with you three one two three three two ESPN is our phone number. Let us go back to the phone lines. In c is Patrick. I'm sorry. Let's go to. Stephen Claremont, California. He's with us here listing on the ESPN app on ESPN one thousand Hello, Steve. Good. Thank you. Yeah. Well, I just wanna say, yeah. This was a great season. I think it all boils down to what we have you all along that line pace. And I think he's executive the year. Matt Nagy my opinion is a coach of the year. But this comes down to Ryan pace. You bet at nine out of ten. He couldn't better tells and there was a glaring weakness. It's glory. Weakest with our ticker. And today he missed those four I think it was two PET's against Miami. Whatever detroit. Remember to missed field goals that was a day in organization goes in and tries out and other kicker. The only reason they stuck with Cody parkey because he was guaranteed nine million dollars. You could build a case Ryan pace in matinee the bears organization calls the bears. They're best opportunity to win the Super Bowl by listening out on a glaring need. There's gotta be a better kicker on the street or whatever than what we saw. He was one of the worst in the NFL their hands. They coddled him getting wanna bring in competition. And by God, it came Embiid us this year, and we are now who knows we may not go back for eight years. I can do thousand ten weeks who thought we ain't gonna go back to the nineteen. You can't waste a defensive effort season like this. And you know, you're dry in case you're sitting up in an office. You're watching us. This guy is missing field goals. He's mission PSAT's, then you don't go. Oh out and try to get something. You know, get a better kicker, and I know these guys are not just hanging around on the street, you know, could pickers, but you cannot kill me. There's no one better on the street right now. Then Cody parkey right now and Ryan pace how good he was. I was at the moves. He said back in watch this guy miss point after Tim's misfield goals is he did nothing about it. And by God, look what it cost us bears fan this year. We're causes making make your onto the next round. And you never know what happened Ashley Mitchell Ryan pace. All right, Steve. I'm glad you checked your phone call. You should blame it on Cody parkey because he's the one who missed field goal. I mean, I understand believe me at the time. When you're missing that many field goals. You don't think it's just an anomaly that he's going to straighten it out? You wanna make sure that there's pressure on every position, especially if you think there's a weakness. It's one thing to get on front of a group of reporters and professor law for Cody parkey week. But the other thing that you gotta understand is is that if you don't think that he solid enough like your defense is solid enough. Or if you think Trubisky solid enough where we think the offense a straw, Sal enough. Then you gotta be able to make sure that everything is short up. You want to make sure that every I is dotted that every T's crossed and Cody parkey missed at forty three yard field goal. Tabah game winner with the game on the line. Thousand for beers post game. I can. Hey, how's it going, man? I'm not trying to keep my composure as best as I can. But why would you do that the bears lost? Why would you leave? Thing is what I'm saying. Well, that's what I'm saying. I'm trying to keep my composure from doing is. Like the bulls back was the two thousand eleven every year counts. There is no, well, we'll come back next year that doesn't mean Cleal MAC and do Justice this year as he does next year. And you have a lot of this on Cody parkey, Mitch Trubisky. Didn't really I mean he did. All right. But you can't put the blame. He did miss that kick absolutely ridiculous. But you know, you gotta take advantage of when you can. And it's so irritating. It's like Rex Grossman. Backing oh six defense dominated yet. Good Rex bad. Rex you got Mitch Trubisky. Good niche, bad niche. It's. I mean, I'm just extremely irritated. But come on, man. Like defense did what it had to do. And it isn't just special teams. You shouldn't fall all the way back to the Alamo when it comes to special teams. Like man, Don, you you. You know, Mitch? Nope. And should have been doing more than what they should have been doing. I hear what you're saying. I'm glad you checked, Dan. Appreciate your phone. Call three one two three three two ESPN three three two three seven seven six our phone number. We will talk about Mitchell Trubisky, and we'll talk about this offense. And look at some of the holes in this offense. It did come down to Cody parkey and his misfield goal. However, there's some things there that the bears have to get better at next year, especially on the offense of because defensively you have to be blind. Not to understand what is going on with the spirits defense. How special it was? But it's something I've said a lot throughout the season. And that is this is that, you know, this like, I know it, but I I gotta say it. Tomorrow's not promised in the National Football League. It's one thing for the bears to finally get on the mountain top and win the NFC north and the first year coach, it's great. You don't know what tomorrow brings meaning you don't know what next season. Is you believe that the bears can be able to build up on this? But you just don't know. And so that's what I look at the bears have been blessed with a lot of of the season which they didn't have a ton of injuries. And so I'm not saying that that's going to happen next year, but you can either build a momentum or you can level out in a very tough NFC north with the Packers still there with Aaron Rodgers. And they figure things out there with the lions underachieving with the Vikings underachieving with Kirk cousins offensively you're just trying to figure out what is the next step? If you're the bears on top of the mountain now. Now, are you the gold standard of the NFC north or you're gonna be here? Next year will be able to take another step. That's the thing and the NFL as you well know. Oh, it's so random you don't know where the bears are going to be next year. You'd hope they'd be in the in the first place, but you just don't know. That's why this season because they've lived a charm season. That's why this season was so important if you're on hold you will be on the air three one two three three two ESPN is our phone number as we talking about. "Get Allen Robinson on one on one match ups Taylor. Gabriel in one on one matches get Trey Burton. I mean a little bit different. Malcolm Jenkins is a good safety. That's where you attack them. Dan, Dan, Orlovsky, if you heard the interview that Dan said he thinks there are going to be opportunities that secondary to take shots down the feeling. That's why I said this to me is I didn't hear the interview. This to me is the the championship caliber don't watch watching a lot of tape on this. He said, I'm just telling you if that picks his spots correctly will be placed place to be made where you can make big gains cana- quarterback. Touchdown make the make the throws. Right. That's the that's why I said to you. This is the most compelling question of all. And I trust this coach and how he handles his quarterback. That's probably outside from the side from the defense. What I had the most confidence in his Matt is is the coach is the coach managing his quarterback. That's what I have the most confidence. So do you try to ice? Isolate tree Cohen in different situations and get him out on wheel routes try to create mismatches with formation in motion to get to record on matchups where you know, you can get the best of him. Do you just tell Allen Robinson? Look, we paid you as a one you're facing a former. You know practice squad guy, you go go in your individual battle. And then you ask Mitch to throw the ball. So that to me whether or not Matt decides to to say, listen, it's their weakness. And I have enough confidence in our downfield pass game. That's what we're going to do or we gonna play a little bit more ball control. We're going to run it because we've had more success running it. We're going to have our control passing game. It we're gonna let our defense dictate the entire pace and flow of this game. I think to me in total that to me is the biggest question that will be answered on Sunday at three forty how they go about doing it. Thanks for the time. Man. You got to do the best. I will take quick Matt Nagy is going to be coming up shortly from homework home of the.
