"And also I think curiosity said they were going to play doubles together in Indian Wells and conveniently for Djokovic, maybe. He's not allowed to go into the Indian Wells. I mean, I think that they actually now publicly do appreciate one another. And they're probably realize it's easier. Lives a bit easier like this. I mean, curios said it's all because he said it's because I stood up for him last year when he was being deported. Okay. Maybe that's why it is then. But I still don't, I still don't believe you are you think he's great and he thinks you're great. I don't really. Can he win this tournament? And PS if he does, he's told Australian media that he will retire. So he can eat and drink what he likes. He was, he was laughing as he said, I don't believe it. Yeah, I don't believe I don't believe that at all. But does he have a chance of winning it? I suppose, but I don't, I don't think he's going to win it. I don't think he's in the mix. Just very quickly back to sits past before we move on to the women's because I think it would be remiss if it's not to mention that he was asked about the united cup and he said he didn't know the city finals existed until he was playing in them. And he was asked about his first round opponent and he literally didn't know who continually is. No. Nothing. He does love the united cup generally. He does. Yeah. And I think he seemed to be a bit vague on some of the details, but he did love it. And I think he actually spoke about a lot of the format issues with the united cup that we've talked about. You know, it was weird having a losing team go through to the final four in Sydney. And in an ideal world, that wouldn't happen. And his idea is to sort of streamline it and have 16 teams rather than 18 because quote 16 is a number which belongs to tennis. That's going in a tweet sometimes soon, isn't it? I kind of liked that. TM? It's definitely such a pass. It's just not. It's just not 16, isn't it? I mean, that can happen in any sport. Anyway, I thought you spoke really well about the united cup and he, I think he and Zachary committing to it will actually be quite important for that event in to sort of really take off. Anyone thinks it's about when this tournament? I'd be surprised. So he's not in the mix. No. I would put people like the thing is I just don't think anybody other than Novak Djokovic is going to win it. Is it a mix of one? To win the title, yes. And I would put people like Taylor Fritz and even cam nori ahead of Sid surpass in the list of people I think will end up in the final. The problem for them is that they're in Djokovic. This is in I was, do you know what I mean? I would have put for it. I feel like they're playing better. Except for the half of the draw that he's landed up in. Yeah. I agree. Okay, moving on to the women and we'll start once again with the top seed eager svante, who is the very last to come into pressure. She was late, actually. She had to she had to switch with an. I mean, it's fine. You know, gibber plugged the gap, heroically. She was fantastic. And she was fantastic. We will, we will come on to her and do course. First up, she'll take was asked about the shoulder injury, which was what was listed as the reason that she pulled out of Adelaide this week. I say that deliberately pointedly because she very pointedly said the shoulders fine, don't worry about it. I mean,

"Podcast. You're at Justin Thomas's house last night like maybe I'll just like say hi to you but I don't know maybe you didn't have a step stool so you could look us in the eye. The fourth guy was trying to get Friends Taylor Fritz is an American Tesla personally a fan. I don't know. You could have said something to him. I feel like. Yeah, I mean, you know, we did. We were like, what's up Ricky? And you're just like, all right. Just like kept driving. All right, near he almost hit us with his car. Every time we're leaving TaylorMade media day, Rickie Fowler has to stop his vehicle so that me and trunk can walk by. That is a fact. We're three for three. I want to be clear as well that we had this exact same relationship with Rory two years ago. When roar is different, man. Rory, yeah, I guess we did. But we always left the shadow of the doubt that he was always too dialed in his tournament. Remember wingfoot, Frankie, we had like the longest march directly at each other in a tight, basically hallway that was created just outside the Clubhouse, and it was me and Frankie, and it was Rory and Harry diamond, walking from like a 150 yards out right at each other, and we were like, here we go. And he just marched right past us without a look in the world. Me and Frankie were staring at his eyes, trying to get any kind of eye contact. And nothing. And we did a whole show, I think, being like, that guy fucking hates us. I know, but like looking back, it's wing foot, it's the U.S. open. It was COVID year. I think he was coming off probably a bad finish on 18, and he's like storming into the Clubhouse. He doesn't care who's left or right. I don't know. I think we definitely look too far into the Rory mcelroy thing. Now, obviously we talked to him for like a half an hour in the ballroom and he knows everything about us and he stopped us at the country club in Boston. So the most impressive human being, I think I've ever encountered. A 100%, 100%. And it's just, yeah, it's phenomenal, like being able to have that relationship now with that guy. And I don't think we'll ever have that with Ricky nor do I even care at this point. The fourth in that four song, by the way, was Taylor Fritz, who's an American tennis player, and Dave tweeted after he goes, tried to explain how I created his wife's first nickname 20 years ago. I don't think he really understood still fun day. Right? Yeah. Yeah, so maybe he doesn't know the history. I guess they kind of they smooth things out a little bit, I think. And I guess there's a chance that that would have just never come up between Allison and Ricky. Like she might have just never in there 5, 6 years together, whatever it's been, been like, by the way, like barstool used to blog that probably just never ever think they talked about.

"To the delight of a big crap. When I walked out the reception was really overwhelming. It was, it was loud and it was, it was, I could feel it in my chest. And it was a really good feeling. Marina will be back tomorrow night for what figures to be a tougher match the second round was second seed and that caught the bite opening day upsets plenty of them Dominic team who won the open two years ago lost so did fourth seated Stefano sits upon Taylor Fritz the tense scene highest American seat. He was beaten by another American branded holt. He's the son of one time U.S. open champ Tracy Austin Simona Halep stunned. By Darius snag or a 20 year old from Ukraine, she's a qualifier so he had never won a professional match before. RJ Barrett on the verge of a big contract extension with the Knicks four years, a $120 million. Where Bloomberg's Nathan? All right, John, thanks 6 37 on Wall Street time to take a look at stock some of the names moving in the pre market with Bloomberg radio and TV markets correspondent critic Gupta and all of a sudden create Tesla and Twitter shares are on the move. They are their back in the news back in focus, really just moments ago you had Elon Musk sending a letter to Twitter adding reasons to terminate the deal. Now remember this is these are two companies that are starting to seal with the legal fallout, a lot of this has expected I should say to end by October 5 day trial, I believe, which is what Twitter had advocated for Elon Musk and advocated for more time ultimately the judge had favored in Twitter's favor. So as we start to see some of these developments in the court case, the stock is likely to move. And that's such development is coming out this morning, Elon Musk, like I said, sending a letter to Twitter, adding recent allegations from a Twitter whistleblower on further reasons why he believes he can cancel his $44 billion deal with the social media company, Musk lawyers so that they wrote the additional termination notice in the event that the July 8th termination notice was determined to be invalid for any reason. So here's what he added on Nathan. He said there was no alleged violation of a consent degree with the FTC. He says that there are SEC filings containing alleged untrue statements around privacy and data protection. Failure to disclose conduct from the CEO Parag agarwal as well around statements he had made to his Twitter's board. He's also talking about resulting lawsuits from the whistleblower complaint and alleged intellectual property infringement. So that's a lot of legal talk for saying there is way, way more that Elon Musk has in his toolbox here to throw a Twitter really to end this deal and really after we saw those headlines, Twitter shares actually dropped their down about 1.4%. And this is interesting because that negative correlation between Twitter and Tesla it is still there because when Twitter shares drop, Tesla shares rise and Tesla shares are indeed up 2.3%. Yeah, it's interesting to watch as well and it's going to make that Delaware hearing all the more interesting to keep an eye on as well. And I know you're keeping an eye on meme stocks again this morning creating. I mean, it's kind of wild where I'm having a really severe bout of deja vu here Nathan because Bed Bath & Beyond once again, it is up and it's up by a lot. Remember, it is in line with the broader market. You are seeing the entire market rebound, but Bed Bath & Beyond is going the extra mile here up about 10% in pre market trading, BBBY is your ticker. Once again, no real news pack so that really screams retail trader to you and they are showing up in the Bed Bath & Beyond the question is, does it show up on the macro front? All right, Bloomberg radio and TV markets correspondent pretty Gupta keeping an eye on a lot of name by name volatility this morning for sure. Looking at the broader market, we're seeing that bounce back following the two day slide from fed chair Jay Powell's comments at Jackson hole. S&P futures on the rise now by 34 points Dow futures up 220. NASDAQ futures leading those gains up a 145 points, the ten year treasury is up ten 30 seconds, the yield 3.06% yield on the two year right now, 3.40%, and you're listening to Bloomberg, daybreak. "Welcome to Wimbledon folks. You might wonder where our music is. You might wonder where Katherine is. More of that later, you're going to hear both of those two things. In the course of this show. But we'll come clean, Matt and I sit in on the broadcast roof overlooking court one and Henry hill at the moment. We had already recorded the podcast about 40 minutes ago, completed a lovely hour of chat about all things, semifinals today, looking ahead to the semifinals tomorrow Catherine winter away. And then two minutes later, we heard that there was going to be a press conference and Rafael Nadal was returning to Wimbledon to take part in it. And that meant we knew that Rafael Nadal was going to pull out a Wimbledon. So what we're going to do just when you think you're ahead of tennis ahead of the news, you're ready for an early night. No. Yeah. So where does that leave us? It means that we're going to have to remove the bit where we were talking about Rafael Nadal in the main show, but you're going to hear all the rest of it. And Matt and I have been in that press conference and that was in the room itself. I was watching on TV while whilst filing reports for BBC Radio. But we'll just react to that now and go through that story and then let you listen to the rest of the show that we conducted with Catherine and Simon Briggs. Honest stitch worth it. But Matt, it's been a strange day, hasn't it in a way because we had all the kind of the drama and the inspiration of yesterday him getting through that match against Taylor Fritz clearly in trouble with this abdominal tear, which was confirmed today when we heard that he'd got a 7 millimeter tear. He'd had a scan overnight, that was what was the result of it. We then had this comical situation where word got around that he was going to be practicing on court ten this afternoon. So I went out there with my BBC microphone and headphones on and word spread and people started to hear about the room and people started to come to the court ten and eventually I got to a point where I realized he's not coming. So I messaged the picture of myself looking lonely on this court to his agent and I said am I wasting my time here and he said you're wasting your time on that call. So it turned out he was on a court ten, but it was in the practice area not on the match courts and that was all the way over the other side if Wimbledon. So I went there and sure enough rattled out spent about 45 minutes, practicing ground strokes, volleys, serves. Right in the distance. I mean, we could barely seem to be honest. Deliberately tried to pick his private accord as they could, I think. No great surprise to see him not going through a hugely vigorous practice session, particularly with what is clip was clearly an injury. But it didn't necessarily mean that I thought he was going to pull out. I've personally, until an hour ago, I thought he would probably take to the court, not honestly. And I know that Djokovic was practicing there, so I was curious. Nobody was going through the most intense

You know, when this sings, you never know what's gonna happen at Camden yard. I don't think I've ever seen this. The Orioles win it over the ranger 7 is 6, the final in ten innings. "In securities involves the risk of loss. This is morning edition from NPR news, I'm Leila faulted. In a May Martinez. Russian forces have scored a significant victory in the bitterly contested eastern Ukrainian province of Luhansk. Ukrainian officials confirmed their forces withdrew from the city of Lucian after months of shelling and more recently street fighting. The victory means Russia can now turn its attention firmly to the remaining Ukrainian held territory in neighboring Donetsk Providence. So it's now from cremin shook is NPR's Jason Bobby and Jason can't say everyone surprised by this, but how important is this as a victory strategically? Yeah, absolutely. Little by little Russia has been making some steady advances in the east in recent days. The latest place to fall, as you mentioned, is Lisa and Sean. This follows the Ukrainian retreat last week from several. Ukrainian president Vladimir zelensky characterized both of those as tactical retreats, but it really is clear that Russia is pushing that front line to the west and grabbing more of the done bass. And at a significant cost, both sides have sustained heavy losses. Zelensky last night said the pullback from listed Sean's in his words quote was to preserve the lives of our soldiers and he added defiantly however that Ukraine eventually will reclaim our land. But there's no doubt that this is a major victory for the Russians at the moment and the momentum is sort of moving at the Kremlin's way, at least in this part of the dunbars. And we know Russia has a big advantage when it comes to artillery and long-range weapons. The U.S. though has provided some of the longer range weapons to Ukraine. Are they making a difference? Yes, some of these weapons are making a difference in some have reached the front lines. But they're arriving slowly. It's important to note that much of Ukraine's artillery before this war was Soviet era equipment, which they simply can't get ammunition or spare parts for now. So getting a hold of these western weapons, Ukrainian officials say is going to be crucial for them as this war drags on. Now in the past week or so, we've also seen increase in the number of Russian missile attacks all over Ukraine and attacks have come striking civilian targets and many people have died. Tell us more about those. Yeah, well, I'm here in cremin stroke where a cruise missile slammed into a shopping mall last week, killing 21 people injuring dozens more, another series of strikes on Friday, hit an apartment building in a recreation center near Odessa, that left another 21 people dead. I was talking to Alexandra, mafi shook, she's the head of the center for civil liberties here in Ukraine. And she says these attacks on civilians are not accidents. She says this is part of how Russia conducts war. They really think that they can do whatever they want it, and they can say whatever they want it. And they have never been punished for this war crimes for decades. You know, Russian officials here claim that these were both precision strikes on military targets. They say them all that they hit and it was in the middle of the afternoon at rush hour was non functioning that it was shut down. A second missile, however, did strike the edge of a manufacturing plant that was adjacent to the mall and that's probably what they were aiming for. But despite these claims from the Kremlin, the civilian casualties or fake, we've been interviewing people who are still hospitalized with burns and wounds from the flying debris at the mall, one man we met he lost his wife and he had his right arm amputated because the mall blew up around him. Mafia says she expects we're going to see more of these attacks on civilians in the coming weeks in an effort to wear down the Ukrainian public and push zelensky to the bargaining table for peace talks. That's NPR's Jason Bobby and cremin shook Ukraine Jason thanks. You're welcome. American men are making their mark on Wimbledon. Four of them made it to the fourth round of the tennis tournament this holiday weekend. The most at this Grand Slam since 1999. Francis TFO and Tommy Paul were defeated, but Brandon nakashima and Taylor Fritz are still looking to clinch a spot in the quarterfinals this morning. So is this the start of a new era of American tennis? Let's ask John wertheim. He's a senior writer for Sports Illustrated, and he's with us on Skype this morning. Good morning, John. Hi laila, happy fourth. Happy fourth. So tell us more about the American men making strides this year. Well, there's definitely quantity. And now the question is, is there going to be quality to match? Because there were 6 American seeds, which is a high since the 90s, as you mentioned, there are two players remaining, but it's sort of unclear if these are really champions or if these are just really good players, but it's a big opportunity for Taylor Fritz, in particular, who's 25 years old, he's from Southern California. He's really sort of a quality player and the question is, can he just make that one more leap and win a major? Because on the American men's side, we are coming up on almost 20 years since an American male one major tournament. Do they have a shot at the title? I think this year especially when it seems so wide open. I mean, the favorites are obviously not like Djokovic and Rafa Nadal who between them have won 42 majors, they are certainly the two favorites, but it has been such a strange arrhythmic tournament. It's played on grass, which is always sort of a mutual surface. Yeah, they have a chance. Taylor Fritz, in particular. You mentioned Brandon nakashima who plays Nick curios in a couple hours today, which will be a real test for him. But it's been a very strange event. And so yeah, why not? We could use an upset. So it's a different story for American women this year. American women stars Serena Williams, coco Goff made early exits at Wimbledon, so what's going on with the women this year? It's funny because I think most people would have thought that the women would have a much better chance, but as it stands now, the best bed is Amanda and amova. And tennis is a funny sport and on grass where anything can happen. We've seen a lot of variants and a lot of upsets. There's only one player left in the women's straw who's ever won a major of any kind. So it's been exciting from an upset perspective, not from a predictability perspective. Right. What's driving the success of the American men in American tennis stars this year? It's a good question. I think some of this is just a question of players maturing into their games. There's a nice core group of players who had great junior success, you know, 6, 7 years ago, and especially the way tennis has played now also with this log jam at the top where you've had these three towering these three all time great players in Nadal Federer Novak Djokovic. It's sort of left little oxygen for everyone else. And now these guys who had great juniors careers 5, 6 years ago, they're in their mid 20s. They're a little bit more developed physically. They've gotten used to sort of the rigors and the workplace and they're really sort of coming into form in their mid 20s. Could we see a sort of U.S. tennis dynasty over the next few years? Oh, I think there are a lot of people that would love to see that happen. I'm not sure. I mean, tennis has just become so global. I just don't think that's sort of the nature of the sport anymore where one country dominates just because it's become such a global workforce. That's

"I think that any player in the draw where there is where Casper Ruud is the highest seed. I think that's a very nice spot to be in. And what I think I saw from last week from norrie, I think he will be one to be reckoned with. So I'm going to go nori getting through to the semifinals with Nick curiosity and I've already spoken about how good I think he's been playing. I think he obviously needs to keep a lid on it a little bit more and maybe that will stop him getting to the semifinal, but I think on tennis alone, I think he's shown enough for me that he could potentially come through that. That Rublev encounter, if he gets there, if he comes through mannarino, and then yeah, in that top half, I've got Medvedev alcaraz. I think yeah, Medvedev will bounce back and I think he will show it was Indian Wells was a blip. And our crash is just playing with so much confidence at the moment. I could not see him getting to the semifinals. Yeah, I've gone very civility. I've gone exactly the same except for curios. I've gone for Rublev to come through that one. Take it to this. My final is therefore alcaraz against Rublev. I'm going all out. I'm going for our crust to win the tournament. Oh, that's a big show. Big claims. It's a big claim. I've gone, I've gone Medvedev curios final with curios winning and I know I think a lot of our listeners will have their head in their hands at the moment. But yeah, as I said, I think he's been playing great talent. I think he's been very motivated. And yes, I think that motivation has led to negative situations that we've seen, but at least he's at least he's motivated and fired up and yeah, I think if he does get to that again to that business end, I think he will have a lot of that motivation to succeed and I think in particular because I think I could be wrong but I think he might be skipping the European clay season. So I think he will want to make the most of his opportunities when he's out on a tennis court. So I'm backing Nick curios to do that. Yeah, in Miami. But probably get a few point penalties along the way. I mean, I think against other players, he may keep it a bit more together, but he seems to have this obsession almost with Rafa and Novak, I think. When he's playing those plays, it's all that extra bit of edge and perhaps he will become with the rest of the field. Who knows? No one knows with him. Anymore. But I don't think that curios knows. I don't know what's going on. Let's talk women's draw because I think this might be, well, certainly hopefully a bit more peaceful. We've got eager spontaneous obviously coming in as the most informed player. And the new world number two as well. Which I don't know if we touched on earlier. But sabale enka is technically still the top seed here. No ash Barty again, of course. So let's look at each quarter in turn. Top quarter, yeah, we've got Saba link. We've got Carolina pushka. Oh, I mean, we've got Serena hallett, probably is the one that's perhaps most likely going to come through this section. Emma rata is in this bit. I could play in the third round. Hopefully Emma is feeling a bit fresher and fitter, you know, she was struggling in Indian Wells. And yeah, I mean, it would be nice for her to kind of get that Halep matchup that we've been looking forward to, wouldn't it? For her for a while. Yeah, definitely. And elsewhere, we've got Ben chichen svitolina in a segment where Heather Watson is, those two players are not in great form at the moment. They'll be looking at Miami as a place to rediscover form of old. So I think there's quite a nice spot for Heather. She's got a rancher Russ of the Netherlands in the first round with the winner to play Switzerland. So I don't think all is not lost there with Heather. I think that's a good place to be. But yeah, sabalenka was the top seed still not really sure. She could face Casa keener in the third round, but yeah, she got to come through baegu or Hayley baptiste in the second round as well. But yeah, certainly I think Simona Halep given what she showed. I think she was like, I feel like I guess Zachary got to the final, but for me Simona Halep showed the second best level of tennis in the women's draw last week to eager fion tech. And if she can continue that, I see how I don't see any reason why she can't again come through this part of the part of the drawer despite being the 2013. I think this is another opportunity for her to get some get some get some more ranking points and get her seeding, get her ranking back up to the tennis. I think she's playing at the moment. Possible banana skin with Darius savile in the second round. She gets through it. I mean, she's just been in pretty decent form making her way back up, you know, she used to be a top 20 player, is down way down in the rankings because of surgery, but she's one that I've kind of keeping my eye on with results because she has been getting some decent winds of late. The next quarter down, we've got an 8 as the top seed in this section. But we've also got the return of Danielle Collins after the AO final. She hasn't played since. So that would be intriguing to see how she will get on. Now she's back on tennis court. May face Caroline Garcia in the second round. But we've also got a possible rematch between Kerber and Fernández in the third round, which would be a rematch of their match at the U.S. open last year. Ownership board is also in this section. So yeah, quite interesting, an interesting section, a soccer as well. I mean, that she could play Kerber in the second round and she gets through her opener. So once again, it almost impossible to predict, to be quite honest with you. I'm not even confident about cultivate anymore because she didn't really have a particularly stand out Indian Wells, did she? Yeah, no. I suspected maybe, yeah, a little bit, a little bit more from her, but yeah, certainly there's quite a big plethora I feel of high quality players in short short space in the draw with, yeah, still with cultivate given her form just generally this season. Corneille as well. We saw what she can do at the Australian open Fernández. Naomi Osaka unseated, yeah, it gained. What's going to happen with Osaka?.

"Fritz could well come a cropper against. Yeah, possibly van de Sancho or later on Tommy Paul hatching of a Felix maybe. I mean, I'm not trying to downplay Taylor Fritz. I just think it's very unlikely that he's going to win two masters back to back straight up. I mean, Kim, we're not even, we're not even speaking about sebi chord or either. And that's a bit unfair because he had a really fantastic match against nidal as well. It was just unfortunate, I think it was so early on in idio well sort of feel like we've had so many great matches since then. We've sort of forgotten about it, but again, like Jensen brooksby being unseated in that top quarter semi quarter in this second quarter unseated as well is going to be quite a dangerous player FAA third round. That could be quite tasty if that materializes. Yeah, hopefully Felix will have a better week this week, but kick manovich as well had a great tournament. And he's in that section could play FIA in the second round. The third section down will the top half of the bottom half, however you want to say it. We've got Andre Rublev as the top is the highest seed. Well, no, actually, he's not the high seat in the section Mateo bertini technically is. But I would imagine Rublev is the favorite to come through this. Yeah, inform. Gael Monfils, hopefully he'll be playing as well as we saw him against Medvedev as well. He has got a perker in his section. They both had quite a good Indian Wells, but yeah, for me, rob blood from this section is Yannick sinner. Last season got to the final in Miami with that with her cash. Could also be a threat. I know you love a bit of PCB as well in this world. I mean, Kim, Rublev could face Nick kyrgios. In his opening match, if curios comes through Adrian mannarino of France, I think I know we've just sort of bashed Nick curios in terms of his antics, but I don't think anyone can deny he was playing some very, very good tennis. In Indian Wells and to have curios Rublev in the second round, I think that could be very, very fiery, I think, given their both their personalities. If they're both of their powerless and really show up on the tennis court, that could be a very, I think, fiery encounter for the fans. I have to say, I'm with Rublev on this one, if they do meet, I don't think kirill should be in the tournament to be quite honest with you. So, but that's the way it is. Yeah, I think sinner going back to him, but hopefully he's over his illness from last week. But yeah, yeah, I mean, I expect rob level beat curios, so I'm going to go with him for this section. But otherwise, yeah, I do concur kyrios was playing some great tennis. So it could very well be the semifinalist of quarterfinals from this section. Very bottom half of the jaw Sasha's Vera was the second seed at the bottom. This feels very open. Cam nori could welcome through, which would be great. And Grigor Dimitrov, he had a sort of got to the court as in India well. So, you know, had a not too shabby last week, benefiting from Djokovic withdrawal. So yes, very open, I think, to be honest. Well, I'm looking forward to Kim in this part, is we could have an all British second round between cam nori and Jack Draper who is here on a wild card. I think that's to do with IMG as his sponsor who they run, they've got big interests and stake in the tournament. Kim, I still just think Jack Draper on the ATP tour. Yes, he had that amazing match with Novak Djokovic. I still remember him last time. He was at Miami where he was just full on cramping on the court, wasn't a pretty sight. I mean, very, very, very testing conditions for any player, but certainly a young player who's still developing. So I think he'll want to do better than give a better showing than yeah, I think what happened last time out and he's got Jill Simon on a protected ranking like tsonga, fellow French man, but yeah, that could be I mean, that's a classic youth versus youth versus experience match up. Where do you see any hope for Draper? Or do you think C one will know how to handle him? No, I think Jack Draper's got a chance. I mean, Simon is, I don't want to say he's past it. He's getting on with his gay on, isn't he? Yeah, he's in the latter stages of his career. So I think that's a very reasonable draw. Having said that, he's obviously very experienced and has been a fantastic player throughout the years. So with that comes a lot of skill. But yeah, hopefully Jack will have a better experience than last time in Miami. And it would be fantastic to see him play to play cam in that second round and hopefully can come through and continue. Continue his recent good form and go deep here. I think he's in a good place in the drawer to do that. So I'd really like to see him. I mean, let's make some predictions, Joel, because we've been I think we've kind of pretty similar on the same sort of wavelength probably with our predictions, but who are you going for for your semifinal lineup to start with? So I'm got Medvedev alcaraz in the top half semifinal with Nick curios cam norrie bottom half semifinal. I think cam nori is the form player in that bottom half and sorry in that bottom bottom quarter..

Rublev van de Sancho Tommy Paul Taylor Fritz Jack Draper Jensen brooksby Kim kick manovich Andre Rublev Mateo bertini Gael Monfils Yannick sinner Nick curios Nick kyrgios Adrian mannarino tennis nidal rob level kyrios Fritz

"You know, they've all gone over to the east coast, a bit of Floridian sunshine as opposed to the Californian desert. Rafa's not there. Djokovic is still not there. So let's look at the drawers. In turn, we've never dev obviously as a top seed at the top of the jaw. He has got defending champion who but her cash as a potential quarterfinalist. It will be interesting to see how huber her cash gets on because since he won Miami last year, you know, we've seen him do really well at Wimbledon, but in other tournaments, big masters events he hasn't replicated what he was able to do against sinner in the final 12 months ago. What are you expecting him to do this week? Yeah, I mean, I think he'll look at, I think, how cam nori I think handled being Indian Wells defending champions. I think he did pretty well. Yes, he lost to alcaraz in the quarterfinal, but I think from a British point of view, he did the best, certainly I think I was expecting of him in terms of handling the occasion. So I think he will kind of look to that as inspiration and confidence that he could mount a similar a similar kind of path and trajectory. I mean, he's got around him in the drawer. He's got karatsev, who I don't think has been in that greater form, this season. So that feels like quite nice. And the other seeds are Dan Evans and chape valor, so there is, I think, potential for him there. To kind of make his way through. The draw. I mean, just at the top, you've got, as you said, Daniel Medvedev, he could actually face Andy Murray or del bonis in his first match. Now, Medvedev didn't have it didn't have it his way in the desert, you know, that loss to Monfils. So he I think show that, you know, that was just, you know, that was just a blip and see where that takes him, but you know, potentially with Andy Murray first up, that could be quite an interesting encounter if there is any sort of time, I think, to play method dev. It certainly I think after a loss to someone like a Monfils and for whoever that is, whether it's Andy Murray or double nice, I think it's a very good opportunity and moment to play him. I think, yeah, if I'm ever dev is feeling a bit wounded, perhaps or from that from that Monfils match, losing his world number one ranking, you know, very shortly after getting, I mean, yeah, there's like 55 points between him and Novak. It's much closer at the top. So it's not to say he's not going to become world number one again. He probably will. But I think it's interesting that Andy Murray has got delbonis. I think they played not so long ago, didn't they? I think Andy Murray has this habit of getting the same sort of people. It seems to be the Taro Daniel Alex bublik. The likes of, you know, he seems to play the same sort of cohort of people, but I'd love to see Murray Medvedev first round. I think that would be a really good test for both of them for different reasons. So I'm definitely up for that. I hope it happens. Jenson brooksby unseated also in this in this quarter. Yeah, definitely could fly under the radar. Well, I say fly under the radar. I mean, he had a pretty good tool that I think in Indian Wells. But I certainly think he's in a nice part of the draw. I mean, if he comes through courier in the first round, could come up against bash slash Billy, but yeah, I think he's an opponent of the form he's in. Yeah, someone no one is going to want to play. And yeah, I could see him being a threat potentially throughout the tournament. Yeah, for sure. I think I would imagine him getting to at least the fourth round of falls I would expect brooksby actually, maybe to be the one to reach the quarters. In the second quarter, we do have Stefano sits pass and Felix auger LA the two highest seeds, but perhaps more interestingly this time, we've got Carlos alcaraz 14th seed and Taylor fritzi is the 11th seed in this section of the draw. I'm really intrigued to see how our crust is going to do after getting to the semis in Indian Wells, even more intrigued to see how Fritz is going to do. I wonder if Fritz's ankle might have a role, I mean, I'm sure he'd want to carry on playing. His home country, big event, you know, you just want the biggest title of your career, but there was quite a bit of concern before the match yesterday about Fritz's ankle. So I don't know if that might be a factor although I'm sure he'll have a good few days off before his first batch in Miami. He may have van der Zandt, though, as the first match which is not an easy, not an easy encounter. He beat FAA last week. Seb quarters in this section as well. Jo Wilfried tsonga is playing this event Joel. I don't know if you spotted him. Yeah, on a protected on a protected ranking. I feel like he's been holding that protected ranking for a long time because I feel like we've just seen him play wild cards and a few lower ranking tournaments. So yeah, nice to see him back in a main draw. Jordan Thompson and his mustache, yes, I will see, we'll see how that goes. Actually, Kim, I say mustache. I actually think he could double as Jesus at the moment, Jordan Thompson, because he's got the mustache, he's got long hair as well. He's giving I don't know if he's like trying to copy light Lloyd Harris sort of long locks look. But yes, tsonga Thompson is quite interesting. But yeah, as you said, I think despite Sisyphus and FAA being the highest seeds in the second quarter, I think all eyes will be on alcaraz and Fritz and given, yeah, I don't know if I don't know how well Fritz is going to be feeling and whether he will have just naturally sort of peaked with winning Indian Wells, that might be quite difficult if he does come up against van de Sancho in the second round. So I'm certainly looking at alcaraz as a player full of confidence at the moment and yeah, I think he will definitely be one certainly one to watch and very well could have an outraged surpass four frowned I think on the cards. And yeah, given the way is playing at the moment, I would not be surprised if he came through that. Yeah, I have alcaraz to come out of this section. I think he's more likely to rather than Fritz..

Andy Murray alcaraz Californian desert cam nori Monfils Daniel Medvedev del bonis dev Fritz Taro Daniel Alex bublik Murray Medvedev Dan Evans Djokovic Jenson brooksby Rafa huber Miami east coast brooksby Felix auger LA

"WTA 1000 titles given that the form she is in and to be honest, not really seeing a lot. Apart from maybe Simona Halep elsewhere, you know, I feel like a few players maybe in the women's draw underperformed here. I know that I know the conditions and I know the environment I think probably had a reason to do with that, but certainly I think she's beyond tech of the big names. I feel like she was arguably maybe only along with Zachary that the tutor to live up to their billing the most. Maybe along with badosa as well. He got to the semifinals. Yeah. Potato reaching the semis as defending champion. She took it to three sets, but ultimately 6 one in that third set against Zachary, Zachary really got the better of per dosa, but also was really struggling to find her range and her first serve percentage was quite poor, apart from that second set where she upped it a bit, but yeah, I think a lot of the women like the likes of muguruza. The soccer for different reasons, like the crowd environment. It was quite disappointing from some of them, but you know, at the same time, full credit to their opponents who came through and beat them, but yeah, spontaneous definitely and hallett, I think, and saccharin really having a great week maximizing their games. And a nice for Zachary that she got to the final because she has this habit of sort of being a perennial semifinalist. She's reached 7 semis in her last ten tournaments. But you can tell it's not quite there yet and you do feel that someone like a shoe on tech will know how to ultimately know how to exploit her game. So I think Zachary knows that there's still a bit of work to do. But at the same time, she, again, is very, very consistent, I think. And again, there's been a lot of players I feel on the WTA Tour and the ATP tour actually who are not living up to their seedings and playing very inconsistent at the moment, but I think that's hard to say of saccharin. This was her second final of the season. So she was coming into this 7 semifinals in her last ten tolerance. I think it shows you that consistency is actually playing with, but consistency is not going to win you. It's not going to win you. It did wells out in the delta and there is certainly yeah, I think room for a little bit of room for improvement, but yes, certainly knocking on the door. Definitely. So I've been let's just quickly touch upon the doubles Joel out in Indian Wells because we had the men's side of things. Americans must be loving it because John Isner and Jack sulk won the men's doubles in Indian Wells as well. Straight set 7 6 6 three against Gonzales and roger vasilian. Interestingly, I didn't know this, but roger vasilian has a metal hip. He's been out and has come back with an Andy Murray inspired metal hip. So there's another one on the tour playing playing out with that. And on the women's side of things, I think it was Juan and Zhang. He won their maiden doubles title against Muhammad and shibahara. So fantastic for them as a team to get their first title together. And as for the British side of things, I think, yeah, Joe Salisbury lost in that semifinal two Gonzalez and roger basilan. But on that note, let's take a quick break, but do join us in the second half where we'll be having a look at the men's and women's draws in Miami coming up this week, so do not go anywhere..

"He was on a streak of his own as well, wasn't he? Exactly, perhaps this is Rublev's time to finally, you know, shine at the other 1000 level. So Fritz getting into the final, I thought, oh, that's great for home fans, but surely rapper's going to have too much for him. Because my conception of Fritz was that great prospect, but hasn't really shown that cutting kind of instinct that is needed to get those massive wins. And to be fair, we hadn't seen any results to show that. So this is definitely perhaps real milestone in his career for sure. And I'm sure it will give him more confidence when he then goes and plays in more big three players, more top tenors and perhaps he'll be in the top ten in the not too distant future himself. I mean, he certainly, I think, has the quality, I think, to be a top ten player. I mean, just looking at his play yesterday, in particular, you know, he's got a great, he's got a great serve, you know, he's 6 foot four. He knows I think how to place his serve as well. I think which gives him a lot of free points. Again, also from the baseline as well. He's not just got a big forehand. I think actually yesterday, his double handed backhand was causing lots of lots of issues, cross court, down the line, and yeah, it was really, really, I think, great to see an American where I think 5, ten years ago. I think we would just naturally assume anyone post in that sort of immediate era post Andy Roddick would just have a big serve and a big forehand, but I think we're seeing with actually more recent American players that they're not just as, you know, they're not arguably as a sort of one dimensional as that anymore. I think certainly with Taylor Fritz game yesterday, you could see it is very multifaceted. He can play very aggressively. He had to do that yesterday, I think, to really kind of assert that pressure on Nadal and it worked really, really well for him. I really liked him, he was standing on the baseline. He was taking time away from Nadal, and he was going in for the kill. I think he sensed that Nadal wasn't obviously 100% fit, and maybe he did have flashbacks to that match with Novak Djokovic, where he maybe didn't know how to handle an injured opponent, but yeah, yesterday, he knew what to do. And I think, yeah, he's just got that he had that belief that he could go on and actually this right now, this moment in his career now is his time. I have to say, I was so hoping for a third set because I think that would have made it a really interesting and also even more of a test of Fritz, you know, getting going into that final set if rafer had been able to maybe pick his former cut down some of his unfold stairs, I would have been really interested to see if Fritz's game would have gone off the boil a little bit. And to see what would have happened there. But he did so well to nip it in the bud and that second set to hybrid. He did so so well to end it there and get it done. Especially as he'd had a championship point, I think on was it Rafa's service game prior to that tiebreak. I mean, just on that, I mean, as you said, you wanted to go to a third. I was actually thinking, I'd rather this have stayed to two because Nadal is not playing Miami. He's going to go back, regroup for the clay court season. And you could just tell that he wasn't a 100%. And I was a bit wary of like, you know, the longer this goes on, you know, the battles he's had already, you know, against Alcatraz and the semifinal Nick curios as well in a quarterfinal. I was just, I was sort of a bit like, well, I'd rather this always finish in two so that we don't have any sort of more wear on Nadal's body and that could potentially have jeopardized him for later on in the season. So yeah, I was a little bit like I was sort of content. It was a sort of straight set. So as much as I wanted it to go through, I just felt that nidal, you know, I don't think he would have retired, but I wondered if it had gone on, whether he would have caused potentially more damage to himself. Yeah, I think the jeopardy might have already been done with those sort of long matches prior. And I think all week, you know, he hasn't really been playing his best tennis and he's been wincing a bit. I think about the foot and then we saw in the semifinal against alcaraz, he was having this left peck issue, had to have treatment. And I think ultimately he said, after this final, that he was finding it very difficult to breathe at times and then obviously that's very stressful and uncomfortable painful. So, you know, your mind is obviously not going to be a 100% on your shots as they normally, you know, he's going to be so, so focused and we definitely saw a lot more on character uncharacteristic unforced errors in this final and he wasn't able to compete in the way that we normally expect and that he wants to. You know, hopefully they'll be able to find out what the issue is and give him the time he needs and hopefully that will be sufficient for the clay court season. Let's hope that this last week pushing himself in Indian Wells hasn't been to the detriment of the next few months and beyond, but I guess we'll have to see what the updates are from team rapha over the coming weeks. But yeah, it's good that he's not playing Miami. He's just back home to New York to recuperate. I mean, yeah, I don't like to see him grumpy, definitely looks quite a gruff and grumpy, I thought, in the final, and you know, against alcaraz, that was such a, such an epic match, really. It was over three hours. They were battling with the wind, you know, the second set. The quality definitely was very below par in the second set. Lots of breaks have served. It was very difficult to deal with the wind and I think at times Raphael was almost potentially trying to get the match stopped because it was just dust going into your eyes, the umpire had to tell the crowd to sort of hold on to all their items because things were just flying everywhere. So yeah, it was quite difficult to say the least. Yeah, because I think Nadal talks about he likes a challenge and obviously the conditions were a challenge and I was wondering do you think do you think they should have put you? They should have paused play or do you think when unless it was like super dangerous which it didn't feel like it was, it felt like the odds I'd know hat or whatever it is from the crowd was sort of blowing across the core. I mean, did you ever feel like it should have been postponed or do you feel like this was a match where it needed to happen regardless of the conditions actually that's one of the unique characteristics of playing in the desert and do you think that they should have postponed it or are you happy it was continued? Yeah, it's a difficult one because I don't know if.

"Today is the 21st of March and we are here to take a look back on all the action in Indian Wells at parsee shot headquarters. We have our two singles winners, eager shion tech and Taylor Fritz. I would say the dust has settled in the desert, but I think judged on the action we saw in the business end of the tournament, the given the conditions, the dust that does never really settle, did it from start to finish. The dust was not settling. It was blowing in everyone's faces and getting in their eyes and being right pain basically, especially during that semifinal between rapha and Carlos alcaraz. And anarchy. Yeah, strong gusts of wind is very hard to play tennis in those conditions. And I mean, I would have to say, you know, everyone sort of did survive. Thankfully, but yeah, rather the worst way in instances and with some interesting shot making at times. But yeah, we have had Indian Wells has come to a close. We're going to discuss all the action from the finals and semifinals. A little bit sad day, Joel, because rapha's unbeaten streak has come to an end, but you know, all in all, you know, if you'd have said, as a Rafa fan that he would go on a 20 match unbeaten streak to start the year, you know, I would have you would have taken that. Absolutely. And all credits Taylor for it. I mean, shall we start with the men's final from last night to commence today's episode. It was straight set 6 three 7 6, Taylor Fritz bagging, his biggest title of his career. And I think really nice for him. It's in front of his home fans in California. Yeah, as a San Diego, I think he must feel life is pretty good at the moment. You could see in his celebration, you know, back on the court after winning that championship point against Nadal and yeah, he was just elated and I do think Fritz is in a funny position in the sense of, you know, I think over the last 6 months or so we've been talking about lots of different American tennis players. Brandon nakashima, maxime Crecy, back at Wimbledon, and they've all, I feel like kind of had their moment and this for me feels like Taylor Fritz's moment. And this is, I think, his reminder to the tennis world to American tennis that he is a very, very talented individual. He's been on the tour for a while now. He's got that experience and it's just great to see him, I think, just make this make this breakthrough because he'll feel like he's coming in to kind of almost kind of like the peak of his this is like a really important kind of moment for him I think on the tour in terms of making himself a force to be reckoned with and the reality kind of going into this final was he's just not a very good big match player at the end of tournaments when he if he gets there. I think there's a lot of certainly a lot of nerves I think I've seen in the past when he's reached finals, a lot of nervous energy and that is kind of translated into ultimately into him not performing his best and in the same regard as well when he has come up against the biggest the big players, the big three, he's again not performed I feel too his potential and that was the sort of I think for me the context kind of going into the match. Yes, there were kind of worries about his ankle as well, but certainly for me, I think it was going to how is he going to handle that occasion in front of your home fans given he's lost his last four finals. He's owe an 8. He was 8 going into this match against the big three for me it was very much how he was going to handle the situation and he came through and handled it really, really impressively. Yes, we're going to talk about Nadal not necessarily being a 100%. But at the same time, you've got to beat what's in front of you and I always remember him. He had that match against Novak Djokovic in the Australian open back in 2021 when Djokovic went to sets up Fritz then won the next two sets and then he lost it, but Djokovic again, similar sort of situation in the sense that he was going through feeling an injury and he couldn't quite he couldn't quite close it out and I think this is almost kind of redemption for that and I think shows the belief I think he has had coming with all of his training, all of his hard work that when he comes up against someone like a Nadal in a final with lots of lots of momentum, he can do the business. Yeah, I think that Djokovic match was the lasting memory I actually have of Taylor Fritz basically. After that, he did actually end up having surgery last year as well on his knee, came back a few weeks later to win a match at Wimbledon. And then a year on his Indian Wells champion, so he had quite an interesting last year and a bit. And certainly improving all the way through and yeah, I think to be honest, when he beat Rublev in the semifinal, I was slightly surprised at that result because I thought, you know, Ripley was in really decent form, perhaps..

"You know, he wasn't trying to bail out and pull the trigger too early and go for highlight highlight real shots, which maybe has a bit particularly on the forehand side in the past. I was so impressed with them and I'm gutted for him really. And what struck me, I don't want to be harsh on sit to pass because I was ultimately so impressed with his fight and his desire and his tenacity tonight. I really was, but what really struck me was looking at two players, one who's improved immensely and sits a pass who may be is the same player he was a year or two ago. I don't know. He might just not have found his full form this tournament. He might be troubled by that elbow, although it seemed to be okay tonight, certainly his service beads were fine, but maybe that's not a fair comparison, but one of those two players was so improved. Obviously, coming from a starting point further behind and I don't know, don't know how much it's bus has improved, you know, since well, since I think maybe he was talking about the relief that his elbow doesn't hurt and it obviously had been hurting in the past before he had the surgery and he spoke to Tim henman who's had elbow surgeries in the U.S. sport interview and that was the overriding impression he gave was just of somebody who's relieved that the elbow doesn't hurt anymore. But I think what it has done is probably hampered his progress because if you've had 6 months of not of being in pain, you're probably not going to improve in that time. And then what the surgery will have done is taken something out of his off season, so it will have been about getting back to full fitness rather than making incremental improvements, I think. And he found a way to win tonight and looking at the stats. I mean, they go with your impression of the tennis you saw, which is certainly my impression too. 15 break points for Taylor Fritz to 5 of sisa pass. That is, that is grim read in for Taylor Fritz because he should have won that match, and he knew it as he walked off that court, shaking his head. He knew it. He should have won that match in his mind, took two out of 15. I hope for his sake he can use that to get it right next time. It can go either way, can't it? But just tactically, I thought, it's quite interesting that sits a pass through in a load of sliced again. And also a lot of short armed jab flat backhands down the line just to change it up things that I don't really associate with him. It's all the flourish in the past. I would like to think that that's maybe not an improvement because it doesn't look quite right yet, but it's an open mindedness to trying to improve. Yeah, my feeling was in principle. This is good that is something you need to develop in your game, but at the moment it's not very good. It was sort of the ultimate compliment to both of them because Fritz I think forced sits a pass to change his game a little bit. And sit surpass responded by doing it. They both did what they should do out there. And yes, it's a pass. His slice should be better than it is. I think, can get better than it is, but it wasn't always ineffective tonight. And I think just the fact he was using it was kind of a positive. I do find sit surpasses current place in tennis, quite interesting. And what you're saying there about Fritz being one who's improving. We're also seeing alcaraz improve in a very fast rate. We're seeing Yannick sinner improver very fast rate. Sit to pass has had a couple of years now where he's been the young guy knocking on the door. And now there are other people knocking on his door, knocking on Medvedev's door, knocking on Djokovic's door. It's an interesting place. It's a pass finds himself in. Now, I think he's often been assumed to be the sort of next in line to get the major. And by people making big Greek productions. By people who were forced to make predictions every week. And actually maybe that is going to change him a little bit. He was asked in the post much into your own court by a slightly nervous Sam growth. The question was, it's definitely been flying really under the radar. This tournament, no one's really talking about you. How are you finding that? And I don't think it's a past liked that very much. I think he very much wants to be on top of the radar. The star of the Netflix. As evidenced by, you know, how proudly he told everybody that he was part of the Netflix show, and I knew about the Netflix before you knew about the Netflix, you know, under the radar, I don't think he's worth it to pass once to be. Are the most sense when I listen to him is that he just doesn't think like everybody else, and he doesn't even know what's going on from one point to the next in terms of what the score is, so I don't trust that he knows where he is on the right to be quite honest. I don't think he is in his own little world after time, isn't he? Bless him, but I don't know what he's banging on about half the time, so, you know, I love watching him play tennis, and he seems to be a really nice lad, but I don't sense that he's got any idea where the radar is. Who's the favorite? When he takes on Yannick sinner in two days time Matt and I Matt and I when we were watching, I think we were midway through the 5th that Fritz hadn't been broken yet. It was Nippon tuck..
