"We no longer have a tanner pearson or a Derek Four, but we're you mad about that. No, are you mad about Adrian campaign now? Are You mad about Rasma? Scoop? Are You mad about gay alert? No, I'M! Sorry I got to push back on the one only because Tarasenko was taken right after him, so that one could. But your point is well taken is so much positivity to be taken from the draft in general, you're getting a good crop of players to choose from in general, so the fact that people put so much emphasis on the number one overall, a teams not doomed because of it. In fact, there are some teams that have been doomed because of, and they've been given the number one overall pick and look where they are so there's so much positivity like I. Do I am the. Office. I mean obviously the most recent experience with the lottery. Last season was disappointing for kings fans because they dropped down to fifth, but. I think everybody's perfectly happy with the pick of Alex Turcott. Going going back to seasons to the two thousand seventeen draft, the Kings again dropped down to eleven. But they wind up with gave already act like. I'm not just like the copay. Tar Pick I. Think it, you know. The kings prosper as a result of a player who should have gone higher in the draft falling to them now with velocity. Obviously, there were the health questions, and probably a lot of teams pass on him because of them with with Kobe Tar I. Think honestly it was just because he was from. From Slovenia and I. Don't think there had been a Slovenian hockey player at that professional hockey player at that point, but either way to your point, it just goes to show that talented players can come at any pick in the draft. US and Brown was thirteenth overall I think Jeff Carter was also a couldn't been eleventh, but I think he might have been thirteenth. Drew Doughty was second Jonathan Quick was what a third round pick. Kyle Clifford was the second round pick trevor. Lewis was the first round pick. So you know just goes to show. You need to build a franchise, not just rely on that first overall pick having said that. I would be very excited. Carlin if the Kings got the first overall pick tomorrow. I, mean after hearing what Chris Peters had to say I'd be pretty excited to honest. And he's and he's one of those players to that safe you are. You're already stacked at that position, and maybe you don't need that kind of depth. You still go with reference. Say you know what I mean so it's. Wow Yeah, it'd be special if if the Kings got that and we're able to pick him, yeah, everybody knows about the Kings. Defensive and goaltending and senator depth on the wing. Guess you've got. Kaliev, who's very exciting and you've got fog Amo-, but other than that you know I think most of us are relying on players to transition to wing from senator whether it's you know jared Anderson Dolan or Thomas or may be velocity or madden or a Turcott..

"How how dominant was this team that even though it took seven games to win the series, they were able to put together a three-game stretch like that Jim. Again had to I think it had to be concerning for the hawks. That to a certain extent. They were getting beat at their own game. Every team develops an identity and again. That's why Jeff was the best player in this series because. She was able. He was one of the few kings that possess the skill necessary to beat the hawks at their own game. The kings could've won in different ways. They could lock down. We could've played a tight defensive. It just didn't go that way. But then for Jeff to be able to step up and make it happen, but in all honesty Jesse the thing that comes to mind to me game to the hawks are up to nothing. I mean that's that seems to be a factor in the entire seven game series. Where leads did not necessarily mean that much. The lead changes were just kept going back and forth I think that seventies, line. That moniker was solidified in this series. The kings were to for four on the power play in game number two. No drew doughty again with US ice time. Just all those things come together. To a certain extent, there were games where. Ethic for the most part. This series was best players against best players. Of course you can always have that no underdog guy that ends up scoring, but best players against best players not. Nick that three-game stretch that we're talking about especially with that to nothing, lead raced in game two. We've Jim talked about the strength of the two thousand fourteen, being the ability to play any style. You it any way that you need to, did you? Did you suspect this team had that kind of offensive firepower in it waiting to explode in this stretch of games like this? Yeah I think. I felt it. was there based on what we saw in the previous two series that year with with the Anaheim and San Jose and I know. We talked about this issue when we went over our best round to on a previous podcast and you know. This edition of the Kings, the two thousand, Fourteen, compared twenty, twelve, a lot of additions that make the kings well make them have the ability to to average four goals a game in the series like they did against Chicago rookies like Tanner Pearson and tailored to Holly Who Jim had touched on. He looks at the minutes while for for rookies like those two forwards. You know if they're playing a lot with Jeff. Carter and they were in that series and in that playoff year. They're minutes or up and they were playing that well. And we've talked about to folly setting the kings rookie record for most points in a playoff series, but but going back to game to in Jim, a talked about Chicago's up to nothing before the king's rally. I had on my scorecard here. twelve and a half minutes into the second period when it's to nothing Chicago, Jonathan Quick makes a an unbelievable. Save on Brent Seabrook. And about five minutes later, Justin. Williams gets the Kings on the board and quick winds up with twenty three saves. He's named the Second Star so who knows I mean, seabrook scores that goal. In, a what are your chances of coming back in a playoff game against the Chicago, teams, three nothing, and now you're going to be down to nothing in the series huge save by quick, and that keeps the kings kind of in it so to speak and As I mentioned Williams later on a goal and starts the comeback. I certainly wasn't trying to. Diminish the impact of Andrzej Tara as you said Jim, but another pair of players who I thought the numbers are a little bit eye-catching, even though I don't think it reflects poor play on their part, but Jonathan kick quick and Corey Crawford didn't face a ton of shots in this series. The only games where the shot totals got elevated. We're the ones. Ones that went to overtime, and even the double overtime win for Chicago only featured forty five shots and forty four shots at between the kings and Blackhawks respectively, which means that a lot of these goals were going in on low shot totals, but again. I don't think that either goalie played poorly. It just speaks to the the talent on both rosters right. I think it does I think? I think that WHO is getting shots. Were the circumstances surrounding them again? Even though the shot totals might be, and they were relatively low for the style of games that were laid, because it was back and forth, it was up and down. And normally when you have that, you can get the third thirty, five, thirty, eight forty. You know that that that really did happen. Johnson, quick save percentage of the series was eighty. Nine and Crawford's was eighty eight. So yeah, you know you get into that situation where you take a look at what's going on that way. To me. Game Five. I mean. Is there a better game ever played? It's it's just. It's so interesting to me how? The Hawks scored the first two goals. They lead three two after one. The kings lead four three after two. Then the hawks out shoot the King Sixteen to eight in the third period. Double Overtime Michael You know kings don't win. That game is a mentioned earlier. They ended up scoring four end up winning the game. You have to go to extra periods to get it done. That's. But but I think what you're starting to see. If I can say in this game or that game five or was Middle Games that we were talking about Jesse this..

"You know where that finger points right but I do think that you find an area where Ilya Kovalchuk who's an established goal score you know Borderline Hall of Famer if you look at numbers had an opportunity to add to a team that made the playoffs and instead head went completely backwards I guess it comes down to you. Know which aspect of you you know what I just previously mentioned was the one to blame but I think at the same time. Unfortunately a we're not gonNA know and be its past and you've you've kind of got to deal with the consequences. I'm not sure what to learn. No from it because I feel like you just need to keep supplying teams or at least you know players with the opportunity become goal scores. And and that's what the Kings did it just for. Some reason didn't go their way not to on the culture thing but the reason I brought it up is to be in in concert with the other two things I want to bring up now. One of them is one that I'd roll my eyes and I never thought I would see people talk about it. But it's dominant Kuba League now for those who may not recognize the name. It was the prospect of the king's drafted in the seventh round in the two thousand and two thousand thirteen. NHL Entry Daft and traded this summer to Chicago for a fifth round draft pick. He currently has eighteen goals and twenty eight points in forty six games for the Chicago Blackhawks. Now I don't know that he would have scored. Those eighteen goals the kings I probably wouldn't have nonetheless. Eighteen goals eighteen goals. And then the third player I want to bring up his Tanner Pearson who has twelve goals in thirty thirty four points in forty seven games with the Vancouver canucks. Now I understand why Daniel Pearson was traded last season. I understand that he was seventeen games. No goals and one assist and so that was a move that that they felt they had to make. But the point I'm making is twelve goals from Pearson thirty four points from Pearson eighteen points for eighteen goals. Twenty eight points from Cuba and now seven points in seven games for Amelia Kovalchuk. At some point this is a team cannot score but plays really well overall all numbers. But that's three Blair's who would insert more than thirty goals into the lineup. Like what's going on four or five six coaches now that this. Here's what I think it is. I think so for the sake of this argument. We're looking at offense broken forwards. I think what you're at least what's kind of coming together in my mind. Here is the players on the kings right now. That are playing playing the heavy minutes. The ones that are you're supposed to be providing the offense or the ones that are at least taking up. The opportunities are not necessarily. They're Li goal scoring layers. And it's not to say that you know players on our top six are are under performing because in one way they are obviously because your team is losing. You're not in the playoffs. You're not point per game players players. You're probably minuses. But at the same time it's those players that are not providing goals that maybe holding back the ability for the younger players to step up into roles but at the same time also show the offense that may be these six habit. Yeah I mean it's it's a tough situation but I think it comes down to players playing most minutes aren't goal scores their playmakers or their sound defensive of players that can play the game. You know well rounded but the end of the game you know. There's only one step that matters. And it's not your plus minus it's your teams plus minus and look at the end of the day. We understand that this is a a an evaluation. Year as part of a larger Ricans. Very much so I'm not. This is why I'm not pulling my hair out and don't have well. Why not only my beard out and you know look it is what it is but it again? My my major concern in all of this is for a team that struggles to score but plays well overall all what happens as you said you know the guys that get those minutes right. Drew Doughty Plays Twenty six minutes a night Alec. Martinez plays twenty minutes a night. Dustin Brown plays eighteen minutes. I follow follow. Plays eighteen minutes. You know what happens when you start replacing those guys with younger players and I mean we'll find out in that is the purpose of this it adjust because maybe we'll I think we've come to the point. Where maybe these? Maybe some of your first liners really second-liners in the NHL Nowadays I mean amassed you know what I mean but it's you know these names have been around and we've you know you have a veteran savvy team that has won multiple cups together of sprinkle in your youth and your follows and your Lozada's and your Wagner's and so on and so forth but the core of this team was successful. What five years ago? Yeah so maybe those players this who have come to be the lovable players aren't always the best choices nowadays and you know it's it's a business but it's a hard time to to evaluate some of your better players when they're holding back you know potentially opportunity for the future. Here's a here's what I'm going to leave this conversation on. Okay we're going to wrap it up for an answer. Six names with six numbers the only four players currently care again. It's plus minus. I know it's a goofy staff law. The only players delectable the only players carrying positive numbers at this moment home in the King Season Carlstrom plus two like Lozad plus to Matt Roy plus to John Walker plus one a bunch of four guys carrying evens including So good for him. And then the bottom two minus players drew doughty minus eleven. Jeff Carter minus sixty so. I think that we've been saying we're going to leave it there. Jack thank you for joining me. Welcome back thank you. I appreciate it and welcome home now your home. You can't say you're from Minnesota anymore now you're from La Minnesota Board. Yeah there you go call Jelly native. "The twenty seven year old brand and get two years left at full million a year to go, six assists. In fifty seven games would be in Couva, the twenty six year-old Pierce in two years left that three point seven five. Mill. He had sixteen points in sixty one combined games with Pittsburgh LA, good Branston interest in case. He was what flora early sent them to an Couva. Not a great. Yes Vancouver up there. But what do you think how do you think he's going to pan out is find a spot, Pittsburgh, you'd think he's going to be a deaf guy? What? I don't know. I mean, I know they probably added them for this. Well, him and Wiedeman. Did you mention the Wyden one yet? I was looking at my phone. I did not know. Okay. Well, they needed to add a little bit of depth undefended because they had a few injuries and all the Tanglin down in that outdoor game as well as Duman and he's out with a cocky, so they need some D quick. I mean, they need to make playoffs. If you don't make playoffs with sin, Gino on your team, man. You're you're burning a year off these guys these guys primes? So to me, that's what that was doing filling in a couple of holes until some guys get healthy. And to me, it's it's the right move. And they didn't have to give up too much. I mean, I don't think Tanner Pearson was a guy that they were gonna they didn't see in their line-up long-term. Yeah. And you know could Branson. He's got that that history with Wilson, you know, member that Busemann they were battling Vancouver Washington. So you never know there's some toughness there you saw Wilson did last year with the penguins three point. That's a long shot. But you never know that could be Rutherford's thanking and Pearson just didn't seem to fit in necessarily. So go to Vancouver pro get a chance to play. You know few more minutes there. I would think but yeah, they kinda deft moves there. Nothing too crazy for teams that don't really have. I mean, Pittsburgh doesn't have a ton of prospects or anything to give up. I mean, by the way, if if this core this this team ended up not winning another Stanley Cup. They've they're threes done more than enough. So anything else should be icing on the cake? And they're not looking at it that way, but it is realistic as guys start to get a little bit older. Yeah, biz you mentioned picked up Chris wideman from Florida. They traded him for joint Sebastian DEA trouble, guys. They've been up and down with a major league club this year sent back and forth..

A and the devils were in the mixed team. That's fighting for a playoff spot. And then they bench get so Senator say they score the puck. Kincaid and. Made the initial stop. It didn't have it all and it's a three to Pittsburgh lead. Sorry about that Mattie that played in danger as it was going down the left wing into the devils zone. You've seen it a thousand times off the wall throwing it to the middle of the ice, a penguin and a devil or there. And it's is it Russ who gets to stick on it. And he just shoveled. You know, he he doesn't shoot it because it's out in front of him. And he's just trying to get it bath home. My getting it passed the defense. You know, why I know this is a bad goal. They showed a close game. He showed his head back closing his eyes. Right d-. Don't you think you gotta get that mad? It's it's right through he again. And that's that's the goal that needs to stop the shot. He needs to stop it. So Pittsburgh as score two in a row, they lead three two to take away shot. Joey Anderson outlets disease, Jack, pretty can't control fifteen John through the devil sixteen for Pittsburgh. Here's McCann Tornquist shot blocked away by Kincaid. Now, it's mega Stena to the Pittsburgh zone with the show. That's blocked by the defense. Johnson is the first time in the season series that the devils trailed Pittsburgh a series dominated by the devils winning the first three and really the first time they've been dominated for a bit of a stretch, you're going on to seventy eight minutes where it's been mostly pens on devils. Haven't had a good chance. Longtime puck goes off the stick of Joey Anderson and Malkin has it at center ice now for Phil kessel Trump pass for market whose feet in front looking for the tip from Greece. But the fast sweat wide. Devils can't clear Malkin with it. Pushed down by new-look. Puck comes loose toward the blue line. Do bullet jabs at it. Now it comes free and Mueller race back deeper in his own end. Eric bribe Steven Santini a healthy scratch tonight. Bob Czanka sitting it out still bothered by an upper body injury. Curtis. Ebrill a healthy scratch at the forward. Spot is plate. Coleman has returned to the line devils sitting Nick lapping down to the American Hockey League. Now, put your fires ahead for Johannesson. Brad after grant with a goal and his assistant Johann with a goal and assist tonight is the puck through in front of Matt Murray. At center ice off the clear turning it back. He's your circle recycled safey by Murray, and we will have a face off five thirty nine to go in the second period. After this time out we'll have that off Pittsburgh leased three to two. "The first period of good game. Good period. No, everybody's trying to push everybody in the referees allowed that to happen with that kid Wilson number ten when he came in late pointed Crosby to the left of vassal Laskey Crosby wins it again, right point shoots blocked big block right there by Cherniak, and it comes right out of the zone rust trying to golf at back. But instead turn act slips it out to center it here is looking into the lightning in right point shots me with the glove. He holds on penguins are getting some long range shots right now. In addition to their dangerous ones. They're adding their total there now shooting the lightning twenty seven twenty six. Yeah. Lightening. They've been stuck on seven shots for quite a while. Go to these stretches without getting shots. Well, this is what happened in the first period when the penguins had that strong segment, the our check really well and a lightning couldn't execute place to get out of their own end. And unfortunately here in the second period. They have been burned for goal against because they weren't able to get out of their own end the strike. Santos and Ustad to the left of ASA lefty and other points in this game, though, they have broken out cleanly, and they have as a result had an advantage in puck possession Pearson. Stamkos. Stamkos wins at Sergeyevna. Lightning near corner. Good play just pitches. It out of his own up is off. It's off-side does he knuckle balls? It in polite with skiing it and bounced over stick. Just a bad. I don't know what it is. It's like everything seems to be off discombobulated right now. But they were fooling they were flowing when he got those two goals. Go ahead. Three one. "When everybody's healthy and willing to do it and today is one of those days. It's one of those days, which is great. Really happy that is 'cause you know, nicer everybody to be healthy. It's very nice for everybody healthy. And now focus focus on the second of the season. But I guess more specifically after I finished recording my podcast, and Michael casu started. So I couldn't go back and change. It was the big trade between the penguins and the Florida Panthers. So will your thoughts on that big deal? Well, two things I thought the Florida Panthers what they were doing clearing out some capital moving forward. His both of those guys had is just in contracts that were going to last into the future of UCS had two more years four one. And I believe McCann had another year one something I'm not sure that but the bottom line was they were there clearing our cap space because I think they'd like to make a run that Brodsky and nor Pinera and in the off season if they hit the open market, they could maybe they make trade for those players right now who knows but I think that. They're clearing cap space for potential agent maneuvering in the off season. And I think also that they'll talent was looking to kinda changes mix around a little bit. They've been looking at trade dukes that seemingly but on the market for like two or three years. So he goes to the penguins, and you know, the pain wins. You know, the Florida has take back, you know, as a way of saving money in a couple of guys who are who who's contracts will be expiring. So they don't have to worry about the moving forward. Neither she had or shea Han or Brisard contracts go pass this season. So and for the penguins they've been looking for, you know, third center, we'll see Bucs that can fill that role or not. And he might be more of a winger than center over the long haul. But Jimmy Rutherford it seems like he likes him. I thought originally maybe he would get them and flip them for someone else. But peers that they're gonna before with with McCann with with Bucs that it certainly to me. The pay when the to created more definitely think about it into Donnie, they have really changed over there. Kind of, you know, group affords around the core guys when you think about adding, you know, Tanner Pearson now these two guys so they've changed things up a little bit there in Pittsburgh. We'll see how it works out. Yeah. Definitely you take a look at that conference. And it's all just tooling. If you're gonna make if you're going to get through to the Stanley Cup final you're gonna have to get through Tampa. But you want to try to do you want to try to make sure you avoid tap till you get to the conference file you don't wanna mess with the wildcard you wanna make sure you're one of the top three spots. So you can make some sort of run there. And and that's what it's all about. And Pittsburgh right now when you look at them they're a team that even though they came up that great win against Tampa. Where they beat him score. The first four goals of the game. They've been fooling around without wildcard spot. And they've got move up. And they've gotta get you gotta catch Columbus. And they've got a catch Washington or maybe the islanders if they want to try to win this division. And that means they're gonna have to do some work and. You know, you've already seen Toronto make their move for defenseman. I'm not sure what Tampa would do calling that game on Saturday jam. Not sure what Tampa needs. Honestly, they just look so complete as a team. But even if they stay intact. I mean, those teams are going to have to work a lot if they're going to try to find a way to match up with eventually beat Tampa. You wanna make a run to the Cup? Yeah. I have is only we'd be looking for depth players. Maybe defense, you know, they've been rumored to maybe interested. Alec martinez. Someone like that. But you know, they'd be doing. You know, again, some tweaking the roster, but never know does get hurt things change between now and the trade deadline which weeks away now, but you know, certainly Tampa Bay Lightning look like they're locked in with their roster and ready to go. But you know, we've seen over many years, right?.

"Is stop at five forty five to the second sensors a little less jumped from the lightning right after that fourth. Pittsburgh goal. Muster away to make it three goal game. Again. Maybe if they could do that, they'll get momentum back. Eric Johnson was mentioning that. And the first intermission. He was bang on there too. Don't get that fourth goal against you because it has taken some wind out of the sales there. There's no doubt lady have a lot of confidence. And earlier in the season. Put it in front directed in on goal by Drake could jeweler and then smothered by Smith and then after the whistle horn quest one over and put the shaft of his stick into Drake Jewish. Side. I'm not sure what that was all about the Joel and harshest tied up at the penguins blue line, and that opened up him an opportunity to skate in uncontested nice setup thereby Kunitz. But that's why I was a little bit upset little maybe a little bit of a hook a little bit of a trip there from cajole. Good chance there for the two outstanding pass by Kunitz. Hey, softball stand. The penguins zone circle to dismiss right catalog that kind of moxy. I think the goal is really elevated Chris Kunitz his game. He looks like he's playing with a little more confident. Well, you don't you get an opportunity here. You're coming back. There's a lot of excitement for the two thousand nine Stanley Cup championship team was a part of that. "The. That game misconduct podcast with Don la- Greco and welcome to the Wednesday. They should have game is conduct. I am Don the Greco. We got a tweet yesterday will the be any deals before American thanksgiving while we've got one between Pittsburgh and Los Angeles not a blockbuster by any stretch of the imagination. But some familiar names as Carl Haglund former ranger former duck now former penguin he's in Los Angeles struggled this year offensively just one goal in sixteen games goes to LA La Land, Tanner Pearson. Twenty six years old goes to Pittsburgh. He's only got one point so far as a minus nine this season. But you know, a chance to play left wing with some stars legitimate guys that can maybe help him finish. She's a former first round pick. But you get four years younger if you're the Pittsburgh Penguins. And both contracts are fairly similar Carl Haglund also had a struggles despite being on a much better. Offense of team a goal, two assists, three points. He's played in the playoffs before. Jason, of course has played in the postseason before. But clearly, Pittsburgh looking to get a little bit younger and get somebody that might have a little bit more finish love Carl Haglund. Maybe one of the fastest players in the league. He's never been known as a goal score. And the hope is the Pearson will have a little bit more finish. He's got sixty nine career goals in three hundred and twenty five games hundred forty four points overall. He's got nineteen power play points in his grace cord nine power play goals. So Pittsburgh looking for a little bit more finishes. Something needs to happen here with the Pittsburgh Penguins. They've really struggled losers of six of their last seven games, and they lost last night again to jersey a team that for some reason, they just can't beat the devils. Have exactly two wins over the last few weeks in both of them coming against the Pittsburgh Penguins. So Pittsburgh never known as a team that she's going to sit in twiddle their thumbs and just hope to make the playoffs. Jim Rutherford is going to be aggressive, and he's certainly was getting Pearson. We'll see if that does help as I mentioned the devils with a four two win over Pittsburgh. Nice win. Four New Jersey. They've just been stellar at home. Just can't win on the road for whatever reason. But they've got Pittsburgh's number and there was a couple of turning points in this game. Devils had a two one lead going into the third period. And then it would be a Jake Gansel goal four. Oh, four into the third tie the game. But there was some controversy. Crosby crashed the net made contact with the skate of Khun Cade. He wipes out the goal goes in and the devils challenge. And it's up held no goal. Tender interference lot of double fans freaking out over it. It looked like Coleman may have touched Sidney Crosby. But I don't think it was enough. They Crosby couldn't of gotten out of the way of can Cade. So is that just a superstar getting the nod is that just hey wanting to keep whatever the goal originally was called on the ice. I mean, that's usually what happens a lot of times in the NHL will never admit this. But the feeling is that they really loathe to change a call by the officials on the ice didn't change it. But the devils come back in a gorgeous goal by Taylor hall as everyone collapses towards day. Jack who finds a wide open hall? I don't know how hall can be open of all the guys on the ice. That's the guy that you leave. Open and he goes five whole onto Smith. And then hall gets his second goal of the game into the empty net to win as New Jersey desperate for victory beats Pittsburgh by the final score of four to two islanders. When the nice win over the Canucks five to there. So Vancouver comes out east loses back to back games on back to back days to the Rangers..
