"Sal and I were talking on Sunday night about Mac Jones and I was saying how it's weird to call somebody a below average starting quarterback. Cause that just, that's the insinuation. Like you're not good at football. But when you do these rankings and you look at the list and the average is like from number 15, number 16, number 17 is probably like the average. You could even extend it and make it 14 through 18 is average. And then 19 and below is below average. I made my list and I only had one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight guys worse than Mac, which, and that includes Zach Wilson who's worse than everybody. So that means I had Zach Mac Jones at number 24. I had Watson after him because I don't know what Watson's doing this year, what happened to him. Pickett, who I was all in on and I thought Pittsburgh could be the number one seed, but picket has just been awful in two straight games. And if you pull away that 71 yard Pickens pass last night they just couldn't do anything. And he really looks disheveled Wilson on Denver, who had a 21 three lead. He just can't help himself. He's going to do eight terrible things in the game. Bryce young, who just doesn't seem ready to me. I don't, I'm not counting them out yet, but he seems terrible. I'm counting them out. I think I'm counting them out. No, I'm obviously joking. But like Panthers fans are coping right now, but you watch these games and he's struggling because he's small. I understand all the other arguments, bad offense line, bad receiver core, but he looks small at least 15 times a game so far. And that's not going away anytime soon. The thing that scared me yesterday with him, we'd look, they have no skill position guys. He's got Frank Rech as a coach who the Q, the quote unquote QB whisperer, who is just goes through QB every year. I don't know who he's whispering or what he's whispering. But what I didn't like was they showed Bryce a few times, as you know, I'm the body language expert. And to me he looked rattled and scared and overwhelmed. And you can't, your quarterback can't look like that. Like say what you want about Mac, but Mac at least looks like, yeah, man, we're going to do this. And then he'll throw it right to the other team or he'll miss a wide open guy, but he's carries himself like they can do it. Uh, I'm with you. I, Bryce Young kind of had this look like, Holy shit. I in college, I used to do that twirl around move and I would just run away from somebody. And, but that was his thing in college was the poise. I haven't seen it. It doesn't work at the, at this level so far. I, he got the Steph Curry comps. I think Jimmer for debt was the comp you guys were looking for. I don't like, I don't see the Steph Curry skillset here. What's his version of being the best three point shooter ever off the dribble. Right. So it would have to be the scrambling and the maneuverability, but we haven't seen that yet. It's working for CJ shroud who, who got question marks about that coming out of college, but he's doing that in the same circumstance in Houston. So I have Bryce young after Mac and then my final four in descending order Ritter, who other than that fourth quarter has just been abominable. Josh Dobbs is not a starting quarterback. It's not his fault fields. And then Zach Wilson last. But I think the field Zach Wilson argument is a little closer than maybe people realize because fields, what was the stat? Like 60% of his passes have been basically uncatchable or, or completely uncatchable. And the other 40% are probably screens that it's either screens, play action or scrambles. Like that's it. That's all we're getting from him at this point through three years. So what's the field's excuse at this point? Because now we've given him, this is, I always got a year to learn the offense. DJ Moore is there now. We've loaded up. And so now it's chase Claypool's fault, like fault, like who do we blame? I think he's just bad at football and it was clear last year. I know we overlooked it because of the running, the scrambling, but he's been a bad quarterback for three years now. That's certainly what I've seen. He's not as bad as Zach Wilson though, but it's at least they're kind of in some sort of an argument. Uh, the people I have right ahead of Mac Jones and tell me if you disagree Carr, who was the guy he was last year, last night against, um, against Carolina. If you pressure him, he just kind of loses it and gets just starts doing crazy stuff. And the fact that they were able to bring taste some Hill in and kind of settle things down a little bit, I thought really helped them. Tannahill was pretty good in that chargers game. Uh, second half, I have Mayfield above Mac Jones just because he's played well on Tampa Bay. You have them above or below Mac Jones below way below to me. I think if you put Mac, yeah, if you put Mac Jones in similar circumstances, I think you're getting better production out of Mac Jones than you are from Baker Mayfield. I, you watched that week one game and Brian Flores had him, the Patriots before the 2018 Superbowl said they were going to have a chair golf like shitting his pants. They had Baker Mayfield shitting his pants in that first half. He rebounded, but the old Baker's still in there. Trust me. Okay. Good to know. Jimmy G I would have above Mac, but I'd feel like he's like Mac's uncle. They said they each make the same three terrible throws. The guy did not expect to have ahead of him as CJ Stroud. And I did not, that was the game that I sacrificed on. I had the multi view on YouTube. I had the two other side, six games. I was like, you know, Andy Houston, especially Richardson got a concussion. I'm like, I'm out. And then reading and catching up on all this stuff. And people were like, CJ Stroud, he's got it. So what'd you say? He's doing the stuff that we expected Bryce Young to do. Like he's doing the, the creativity stuff. He's, he's making plays in the pocket under circumstances where other quarterbacks wouldn't like, he was doing like no look passes over the middle, like 15 yards over the middle against pressure. You don't see that out of rookie quarterbacks. You don't see that out of most quarterbacks. So I think he's flashed enough for me to be, I I'm buying it. I mean, well, and especially tonsil didn't play their left tackle in that game. And in general, it just seemed like they had a ton of injuries. Nobody can name a Texans receiver. And, uh, the fact that people are like raving about him, I'm going to watch it because they're all 22 is I think are up now. I want to see it because it's so funny when you have these drafts where everybody's got these wildly different opinions on the QBs, but then by the time we got close to the draft, everybody's like, you know what? Bryce is the safest pick, you know, he's got the poise and athleticism. Now it turns out Stroud's a guy. Where do you have Jordan Love just in this whole mix? I have him like right outside of the top 20. I was really high on him and I was not high on him like coming out, but I watched him in the off season, like the cameo appearances. And I was like, holy shit, there's a lot to this guy. More than I expected, like real quarterback stuff in the pocket. He's also a guy that does no look passes. He looks off safeties. He does all that. He's really confident as a passer, which really surprised me. I thought there was a feistiness to him in that Atlanta game that I liked. They also, you know, his offensive line was decimated that from a receiver standpoint, it seemed like he liked, you know, he still hasn't had Watson, who was supposed to be his main guy. Jones didn't play in the second game. I thought he fell apart a little down the stretch. It was one of the reasons they lost, but for the most part, I like him. You've always been a Geno guy and Geno had a huge week too. Is he, he's above average for you? Oh yeah. Okay. I'm almost willing to say that I take Geno Smith for one year over Jalen Hurts. See, so this is what people go to ask. So what, what are you, walk me through the case against Hurts? Is it basically, if you just put Lamar Josh Allen in that Philly offense, it would be even crazier. Yeah. I think we give him, we need to give him credit for being the, the running back or not the running back, the run game centerpiece. He does deserve credit for that. And I don't think people give them enough credit for that, but I think you can go overboard and give them too much credit. We have seen, if you put any quarterback out there who can move, your running game is going to get better. Like Daniel Jones, isn't the best runner. He's a great straight line athlete, but you turn them into a read option quarterback and all of a sudden he's like ripping off runs. Like he's Lamar Jackson. Like I think we give too much credit to the numbers advantage that a mobile quarterback gives you. Like, yes, Jalen Hurts does provide that for the Eagles, but any running quarterback would provide something similar if you put them in there. Like Tyrod Taylor would provide that also. Or the great Josh Dobbs. Um, I, the case I'm, I'm higher on hurts than most, but I think the case, if you were going to ding him is, you know, he's got this awesome offensive line. He's got two blue chip receivers. He's got one of the best all around tight ends, if not the best one. And they always seem to have these running backs that at least fit a certain prototype where they have speed. Um, he always has some sort of good game plan. They're usually playing with the lead, especially because their defense is always pretty good and you just can't come up with a better situation than the situation's in. Here's my question. You give the ninth best quarterback in the NFL, the best offensive line, maybe the best receiving duo, a great, a good tight end, a great running game, an offensive coordinator who got hired as a head coach, like what would you expect their numbers to look like? You'd expect them to look like the second best quarterback. And that's what I think is what's playing out. So I had before the season, I had my homes, uh, borough, Allen, Herbert, and Hertz as my top five and Lamar to me was, uh, guys been battling injuries the last few years, just got this huge contract, kind of want to see it. And then he was, other than Michael Parsons, probably the best player in week two. Is he cracked the top five or do we extend it to, well, you don't have Hertz in your top five, but has he forged himself into that top group? Do you need to see a little more or is this like, we're going to look back three months around and be like, oh man, remember Lamar week two before he got hurt again? What, how does this play out? I mean, that's my concern is the injury thing, but I do think he's top five. And I think we saw him dominate the game on Sunday in a way we've never seen him dominate an NFL game before. And like I think this is the first time he's had the tools to do that. He's, when you're giving him Patrick Ricard third down routes, he's not going to look like Peyton Manning, but when you give him a real receiving core and a real drop back passing game, he looked the part on Sunday. Like he wasn't running. He wasn't doing design quarterback runs. He scrambled when he had to, but he picked them apart with like dink and dunk passes. I think they were, they were there nine for 14 or 10 for 14 on third down. The funny thing though, is cause I've heard this, oh, now he finally has the right receiving core. It Nelson Aguilar. I'm like I've rooted for Nelson Aguilar for two years. He's terrible. Like really terrible, like unplayable. We were like, why do they keep playing this guy? And then he played one game with Lamar and all of a sudden looked like the guy that everybody has keeps giving chances to made a couple of big plays. The guy that jumped off the TV though was flowers. He hit, he had flowers on that half field bomb right down the middle of the field and flowers made a big play on it. But, uh, it seems like that guy might have it. He's got, yeah, I think I'm, I think I'm in on that one. I, I'm as a Panthers fan, I hate Steve Smith comps cause every short wide receiver gets them, but I think he deserves it. Like he moves differently when you watch him. You just need to watch him once one snap and you're like, okay, this guy's different. Cause you figure they spent on Beckham. They took flowers there. Who's the other guy that they rolled the dice with. I mean they drafted Bateman a couple of years ago and Bateman and it's like you figure, can they get one of these guys to become a guy? They just won. And if you get two, fantastic. But you, you gotta get one.

"The problem is is that they're dear. Drafting has just been horrendous. You know you. You don't necessarily look at a guy like waddell and say well. He wasn't a bad draft pick. You know he. He was a pretty solid draft. Pick you look at the guys that we could have had and should have had. Yeah and that's what you have to look at. I mean we're not we're not trying to get down out on a guy like waddell or a guy like phillips but the bottom line is there. Were better players there when we i mean. There was different circumstances and better opportunities for us to have some impact players. And he doesn't have any to work with the dozen. We got sold that line that we wanted waddle all along right remember that and and and the guy says that's worth actually thought waddell was going to be a better player than chasing pits. Then you don't understand player personnel as to call watch football game your entire life guy. How much input do you think. Flora's has in the personnel decisions. I think he is solely responsible for cutting players from the team. Yep that's all those people that have been cut and gone elsewhere and been successful. It's a sign of bad coaching for two reasons. One flow didn't understand the talent level. Well enough or You know whatever in order to cut them in into if they were truly performing that bad and then immediately i don't mean like a year later started doing better went somewhere else and immediately started playing at a higher level got three linemen then coaching. It's coaching it's coaching. Also i mean. Did it come down the money would some of these offensive line with flowers. Flowers case flowers in the flowers that me save a million bucks right. I mean he's not even because we had to pay washington for him to go back there to mention that we did that for tannahill. That's the you know I attended hill had seven year run. We were already for him to go our team. 'cause i the team on his back still you know. He's excelling because he has a lot of talent henry henry. He's got a good offensive line. He's got good wide receiver. He's got good coaching everything. But let me address. A loose got good question. As far as what is floor responsible for. I think the certain picks think greer is a guy that likes to collaborate. You know and work with people. Gm should yeah. But i mean you wanna lineup. Who you're picking with the scheme. Coaching said i gotta pick ingredients that i'm going to cook with or whatever you know. I understand that but scott go ahead. I'll let you just wanna. I just wanna finish a quick a quick thought on that. I think there's certain people that have his name all over it nor no for example and tight ends some damn reason why they're some fascination with these tight ends we keep signing anybody who's a tight end and i mean i sometimes i you know i don't know i love perpetuating jokes i love it. I saw a joke that someone. I can't even remember who you know at some point and not that one okay and I know and it was like superhero hands pressing one button or the other button in a gif and somebody put that you know. Put the dolphins logo on it and then said you know one button said tide and the other one said quarterback..

I mean they they could do nothing that was always you know when you take the running game if you take the running game away from tannehill and get a lot of pressure on him. It's he tends to while he's the reason why they lost the game. They're old. they're all offensive coordinator. Who's now down in atlanta. Loves the play you know basically built everything on the play action so out much of it is losing that but yeah if they can't run tannahill will not be successful young kansas city by three and a half at baltimore i could play with. That's really adds airtight. It really is. You really bored me when you were talking about tom. Winston is going to have a better statistical season then to maybe by miles. I mean you have a different play caller. They're in a different offensive line. So i just think that that matters. You're right i mean. I don't think we're disagreeing year. I think is in that twenty to twenty five range of the starting quarterback. He's just now if you're if you're also got this point he's only played x amount of game. We don't know inaugural. I just think like. Let's just you're right but with this defense. Mcvay loves that play where the quarterback role outright and the and the running back rolls the other way and they pass it against the grain and like just a back screen. It's a stable of his offense. There's a couple of different places that he uses quite a bit in terms of getting the ball to running back in space. You saw a lot with with todd. Gurley back in the day. I think you'll see some of it with henderson on sunday so anyway that would-be but again i haven't running back twenty six. I've a really quick question. And i don't want real podcast but from a strategy standpoint just want asked us because i do think it's interesting or at least important to understand the way that rankings are done. Yes when you're talking about running back twenty six and we obviously say like that's a flex play. I think most of the time we would all choose to usually play a wide receiver in the flex over a running back. Npr appr scoring. It's not across the board but most of the time we do that so when running back at twenty six as a flex play. You're more than likely saying you have a wide receiver that you'd probably play over top of him but he's still someone you should consider based on who you've got on your bench fair fair. My has about twenty two your slightly higher than myself for field. You more optimistic yell a little bit. I think that maybe sony michelle joining. The team is a little bit more limited than usual. Daryl henderson obviously played at a high level last season. But your your concerns are are noted and clear. I mean look last season. There were seven games. I've tried to put it into my my work as as i can. Okay but i think in general for the industry that not enough emphasis is placed on these. Are people feel. You spent time in the front office of two different. Nfl franchises so you can speak to this. Like it's not just numbers and stats. It's not even just film study. The fact of the matter is is that these are all people people with like any other workplace may have egos and they have jealousies and there's pettiness and there's politics and there's relationships and good relationships and bad relationships and so i think ryan tannehill a veteran corner quarterback right and aj brown remember. The offseason edgy was like julio all the instagram post. Julio come to tennessee trying to get tennessee like they want who to fit in they want him to be a big part of what they're doing in tennessee. I think that ryan tannehill is going to make it a point to try to get who jones going early and often in this game and i would even see i could even see. Whose defense do i think is wasn't a huge problem last year but looks like it's quite a bit better this year and checking the box with all of those for me the green bay packers and i i know david. Tr he's not there and how valuable he is that team but he'll be back eventually banned he'll be back exactly and they have the benefit of play in the nfc north which they ought to be able to figure things out before he gets back and stayed with their heads above water and get to the point where he is he has returned and they're playing their best so i like green bay to make it all the way to la in the super bowl. I think it's a really good in logical pick and keep this in mind k. Wherever the green bay packers have put elton jenkins since drafting and what three years ago. He's done nothing but be a stunned. And i think tannahill will be really good again. I think they'll win a lot. But if it's possible to lean on the ground game even a little more is figure things out without arthur smith. I can see them going that route. So either guy makes sense to me but i go brady over derrick henry the hard thing when you're trying to pick someone other than most other than a quarterback most valuable player is that the last time i mean there's only been one time since two thousand six that are running back has won. Mvp really yes. So so ladainian tomlinson one and in two thousand six since then so only happened one time in fourteen years and that one time was adrian peterson at twenty twelve. And just keep this one thing in mind remember adrian. Peterson was coming off a tornado. Ceo and other knee damage. Okay and peyton. Manning had a great not a good year a great ear. But excuse me remember. That was the year coming off that serious injury. That adrian peterson for two thousand ninety six yards and it was still a kind of split. Manning got some votes. The linebacker with the cowboys. Who i think is going to play. The kind of sideline to sideline game that is going to Make him people are gonna look at the cowboys being instead of the thirtieth best defense whatever they were last year maybe the eighteenth best and the biggest reason is the addition of mike. Parsons my coach of the year. Is sean mcdermott. I think leading the bills to home field in a in a a very very tight race with the chiefs of i think wins him as the coach of the comeback player. I think the dolphins are team like their defense should be really good skill wise. They got some they got some ballers specially with waddell. And i think he's going to be really electric. Just need a quarterback that can distribute to looking like this if he continues on this path. It's going to go two things one. It's gonna force everyone to not make snap decisions on rookie players. Who aren't good enough for our expectations. The first year and to it's gonna make them. You know probably team that can compete for the. History in Five Songs 47: Bands of Individuals
"So this is episode forty seven. We are going to be calling this bands of individuals. I couldn't think of a snappier title. But this basically explains this concept and it's actually a pretty elevated concept If you don't mind me saying this is something I've always felt and it's an episode. I've been burning to do So let's just get to it. I mean essentially One funny thing about this episode is it's not very heavy metal or hard rock. Although I am going to be mentioning a lot of bands that are hard. Rock and heavy metal but my examples per se are not particularly in that field. But I am going to end with a with a classic heavy metal band so So all shall be forgiven. I hope by the end of this. I might mention a few Honorable Mentions Myself All right so we're GONNA do this one a little bit differently. I hope it doesn't go on too long. I probably will shorten up when it comes to the actual entries but I have a little bit of a along intro here so I went to you the fine listeners. And and said hey give me some examples of this and it's kind of funny The example started flowing in and I'm going to read some of those in in a second But what I realized when I was reading these examples is I'm not too clear on what my concept is for this. I hope by the end of this episode and when you hear examples you're GonNa understand what has always been stuck in my brain for decades essentially about bands. That are like this why I think there are certain bands truly truly truly like this. So let's just get on with that so I sent. I sent off a facebook cry for help here So what did I say here so So here's a really cool concept that I'm at four at need one. More as I said bands of individuals and ecosystem is created with a clear north South East and West. It's an ecosystem that has not one world but four five teams that comprise a complex world. I've thought this for years about these four bands. But do you get my drift strode. A few band names and if one of them just hits me like a lightning bolt. I'll know it but I don't want to explain further or debated. Let's save that for the episode. Only one of my choices is remotely a metal band. So that's what I wrote And yet just to explain a little more before. I read some of these Entries the idea here is that these bands create almost like You know you think of a little Snow Globe that you shakeup and there. There's the snowflakes in there. There's this enclosed world that is a weird world but very importantly this world is not one that ends up being kind of a unified sounding thing that a lot of other band's sound like it is a world unto itself that's number one but number two it does have an east west North and south. I mean it. Basically sounds like a world of individual players or Feifdoms that is making this up so doesn't sound like particularly like a unified whole. It sounds like a band or a record or song that you listened to where you can't get the members themselves out of your head when you're listening to it. You don't think the band name you think all of these original members jumbled up together at once. I think that explains it probably pretty well but let me tell you quickly and what I'm going to do here is I'm going to leave out. The bans That were suggested that are actually my choices anyways. And I'm just going to go through some of these very quickly dispelled the notion of why didn't include the more. How they they? Almost clay came close. Oh so we've got vanya Derek. I mentioned led Zeppelin Queen Cream and Russia. Okay all of those are pretty close but no cigar. They had certain things about them. That were almost two unified Long Story But those ones are are all pretty close but let's see Jacob Tannahill said sons of Apollo Mister Big Asia. Any one of them fit the bill and I actually almost thought Asia that I would include But Yeah I think he's getting the point here Sons of Apollo definitely. You know the big the big You know important band members. Asia supergroup The police New York Doll says Thomas Hackney also the pretenders I would say no on the pretenders I would. That wouldn't have come to mind. I wouldn't New York dolls that come to mind. Police is one of my honorable mention so with that band. You know you are thinking This this chicken scratch sort of textured a guitar playing from Andy. You know base. I don't think you think of sting so much base but you think of that vocalist and then also I with Stewart Copeland. You definitely get a unique drummer. That is a distraction. I mean you're thinking of him when you're hearing these police songs so yes that's a good example of what we're getting at here. Augusta Garcia parade. As mentioned the clash. I would say no I don't. It doesn't really fit the bill here. Thomas Hackney comes up with AKS little bit. That's kind of cool. One Eagles Blazed Barshop. Says no I wouldn't say so Going to leave Well no I'm not going to leave this one because I kick them out. Pat conners has fleetwood Mac. I actually was include fleetwood Mac but I couldn't see myself playing a fleetwood Mac song as one of our five choices here but definitely you get the yet. This is a perfect example. And like I say I was one of mine that was on the at the top of my head. You get. Basically these. Three distinct vocalists are all with their personalities and their baggage in their own solo albums. The whole bit Stevie Nicks Christie. Make Christine mcvie his Christine. Yeah and Lindsey Buckingham All very distinct vocalists. And you also get You Know Mick. Fleetwood is the is kind of the the patriarch of the ban. But you had get this very stripped down drumming John mcvie Idaho. Don't really think of him too much in this but Lindsay as well you think of a very distinct Sort of I said chicken. Scratch already with Andy Summers. Chicken scratch makes a lot more sense with Lindsay So again you're listening to fleetwood Mac song or a few in a row and you're thinking oh when's this focus gonNA sing or that one or oh. They're they're doing this together And then and then. Lindsey gives you this very stark guitar Solo And and you get this very sort of straight line B line kind of Feel to a of their songs so that is a ban when you're listening to them. Colts face different Titans' threat with Ryan Tannehill at QB
"Sunday. It is the titans and Ryan Tannehill. Dan Hill really happy for him. By the way at the Indianapolis Colts Starwood Tannahill and the November December Munster known as Derrick Henry. Well here's the thing with tannehill now barring the complete face plan the question is just how many guaranteed years does he get from the titans because because he's GonNa be the quarterback next year. They're really the running an efficient effective offense. I think he's up around fifteen yards of completion over his last two games. The problem is with Tennessee. Hennessy is. He isn't throwing the ball a whole lot so we had eighteen. Pass attempts against Jacksonville last week. Now of course two rushing touchdowns in two passing touchdowns so he he wants somebody a lot of money in DFS. But it's it's one of those things where decided Lamar Jackson. You really don't think that that's tenable. Because he's a good Ron. Everybody's not an explosive one but then he had the nineteen pass attempts against Kansas City. A couple of weeks ago. This is how they WANNA play. So I think Tannahill the hill is a streamer streamer the quarterback the problem is i. Don't trust any of his wide receivers because AJ Brown had the big game and Jacksonville but two weeks exco. He had the terrible game just one catch against Kansas City. So I'm not really trusting any of that. I think Corey Davis is flat out droppable right now because I have a tough time saying to myself. When am I going to play Corey Davis in any of my line at this point and so I think he's droppable? Ryan Tannehill has accounted for for over nineteen fantasy points and multiple touchdowns in each of his five starts his nine point two yards per attempt is leading the NFL. He's playing really well. And I think the colts are a gettable matchup even if it's not a pristine one but the guy you always trust here is Derrick Henry. You had a third touchdown last week wiped out because of a screen pass. The the colts are really struggling to score points right now and we heard this week. That t y Hilton so far isn't sure he's going to be ready to go on Sunday. This projects to be a lower scoring game in Indianapolis and that means all systems go for Derrick Henry locked in rb one locked in court. DFS play tight end for the titans writings.
