"You gotta let somebody answer after you ask them Christine from queens up on the fan Christine. Whole giardi. How are you? I was listening to the beginning of your show. And I heard you say something about. He's going to be playing first base for the Yankees. Most games over the course of the year who will play the most games at first base. I think it's going to be the boy opinion. But I still think we need a left handed bat. I think we need another starting pitcher. And it doesn't have to be in the life. I was talking to Kim two weeks ago about Dallas Kyko. Maybe I reconsidered and thought about maybe a guy like GIO Gonzalez. I don't see any reason why we can't give. Tanaka severino. CC? What are you going to get at him an extra day here, and there, that's okay? What do you do what you GO when he's not in a rotation? Put them in a rotation. You want to go to six man rotation. Yeah. She she's not going to be ready for the beginning of the season. Anyway, I know you don't need five starters necessarily in the first two weeks of the season. But she she's not going to be ready. I don't know that. Have. Definitively said CC Sobat Theus starting new year on the disabled list. I've not heard that if you've heard that. So you're assuming he might not be ready for the start at season until we got there. We don't know that you're not to I guess GIO Gonzalez. And I even looked it up over the weekend. This is twelve season in the big leagues. Would you like to take a guess how many games he's pitched in and twelve seasons? Two hundred and fifty not a bad guess better than that three. Oh, nine would you like, yes? How many of them have been starts? Everything. But three I heard you do the right of the three hundred and six so if the five guys are good to go CC is ready, and and taxing and Tanaka and Severino and hap if they're already geo sits down in the bullpen and never gets into a game. E. The Yankees like to use their bullpen the way they like to use their bullpen and they've got depth in the bullpen. So they don't need to add another guy out there who they really don't plan on using. No, the Yankees don't. They don't need another starting pitcher as long as they're all healthy. And be I believe they believe that if they have to come up with another starting pitcher. It's going to be Jonathan wiser guard Domingo Herrmann or chance atoms that they've got three pretty young arms that are going to start the year in the rotation in Scranton. And where necessary one of them will be pitching. Well, one of the movie blossoming and taking his step up wanna be dying to get to the Bronx to start their major league career that they don't have to go out and get a veteran guy just wore safety net sakes because he is a little long in a to tat an off season. Health issue? But supposedly is coming along fine. No, I do not believe the Yankees are in play for a free agent starting pitcher just my take on it. Eight seven seven three three seven six XXX. Johnny Mak open phones, keep them open to the top of the hour. So be then..

"How you doing good? How are you? Good good big failures. I always enjoy hearing you on the radio. I was joy hearing your perspective. And I wish you were on the radio more. I'm a huge Yankee fan. And you know, I'm not I don't want Machado. I don't want Harper. I don't think we need them. I think we need it shooting and timely hitting. And I'm going to ask the question that I'll hang up. So I can hear your your answer Dallas Keiko as far as I know is still out there. And I know geo Consol is is available as well. I know the Yankees have some young arms in the farm system that they can go to as well. But I'm kind of wondering why we haven't heard anything about the Yankees pursuing dalloway Heiko in even if play this play this out for me, what aren't you satisfied with as far as the Yankees starting? You're starting rotation. Not bullpen, right? Correct. All set for the bullpen. Yeah. I would agree. So because I heard on my way in I heard a caller also bring. Kaikal to Jodi. So. Play this out with me. What about the Yankees starting rotation? Are you not okay with? My biggest thing is this what you have to knock. No particular order, you've Tanaka Severino. Paxton. Hap-? Jordan Montgomery should be back. Whether he starts in AAA or not, but he should be healthy cici's back should be healthy. And maybe even healthier. He had a heart situation that was dealt with. And he was cleared to work out and everything maybe he feels even better this year knows but CC. And I feel like I'm forgetting someone. I'm I forgetting someone. No, I don't believe. So I don't believe. So I understand what you're saying taxi. Was a good addition Tanaka. You don't really know what you're going to get with him. I know he's up and down CC at his age. He's got a lot of innings in his arm, and what he gave us last year was a shot in the arm. But I don't know if you can rely on him, I would just feel better going into the season if we had another power arm, and whether we call up somebody from the minors, or we kinda kick the tires on Gonzales or Tikal, I would feel better just especially to with the Yankees and injuries. And and things that can happen with the pitcher and to me if you were to take a chance on Tyco, I think the reward would what outweigh the pros and cons and him being a Yankee chiller and being able to pitch in big games and pitching the World Series. I think that experience would would also help as well..

"Get aboard hate seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six and it probably will get lost in the shuffle. What Masahiro Tanaka dead, and I understand in this day and age it's just very difficult to see starter. Go seven go, wait. I mean with these bullpens being aware that they are with the Yankees feeling much better about their bullpen. And basically everybody else in the sport, you're going to see print, and you're going to see Batanes you're going to see aroldis Chapman. But those were five quality guardians, and what you saw in one dugout is a pitcher who rises to the Asian who shines in the big moment. And you saw another pitcher who yet again falls on the pressure. David price is a star in the postseason. Listen as the numbers only nine with a six, right? I won't feel too good about starting him again from Alexkor, but you're not gonna see him start another game in this series. In fact, that'd be surprised even though he'd been affective coming out of the bullpen known the Yankees checker, David price. I'm outscore I'm not throwing out there. No way. No how let's put it off. I see a pack foam board. This is a thing of beauty for me. Pretty good pal. We head to a story in New York. Anthony is gonna start a self here on the foul south, Anthony, how are you? JJ? Don't forget they're paying price thirty million dollars a year to can't even get out of the second season 'cause they don't want. No other way around that. He's cutlass. He is not a guy that you want anywhere near a big situation. And the only reason he started game two of this series is twofold one because it at price tag that you just to and to the fact that he had a good regular season. So the Red Sox couldn't tell David price you pitched well in the regular season when out throwing in October. But you know, what Anthony no one is track record and knowing the way he pitches against the AKIs probably was a mistake. It worked out for me. And it worked out for you JJ you, and I spoke the day after that sweep that four-game sweep at Fenway park over the summer now, which has deflated and helpless as a Yankee fan felt all year, and I tried to look for some sort of light at the end of the tunnel. And I told you this team right now has to do three things number one. They have to host the wild card game. Check that off number two. They have to win the wild card game. Check that off and number three is they have to find a way to win one game at Fenway park. When they play the Red Sox, the AL DS will tonight, we can check that off to you have to feel confident going back now having to better match up in pitching, which you cannot argue. They do you have Severino going on Monday night in a spot where a wind is gonna put them in a position to end the series at home, or at least give them to shops that do it. And you have these bats that now has found their way going back to a ballpark where they have not lost the postseason game yet with this regime. They didn't lose data database last year to haven't lost yet this year, and I'm feeling good JJ. And I think again, I don't wanna overlook what Tanaka did Anaka comes up Tober when it counts I did it last year when they were in Cleveland, and they needed that wonder stretch the series tonight, in my opinion tonight. The biggest performance if his Yankee career, but as far as Sanchez goes. That same that same week that we spoke and earlier in September when they played Oakland in Oakland. You had a caller I believe his name was Alex Newark complain to you to the point that he said they should start role. Mine every team the rest of the season including the playoffs. I don't know who this guy is a clown and Alex in Newark, if you are listening, I hope you enjoy with Gary Sanchez did because what he did tonight in my estimation is going to continue through the rest of this series. And you're going to have to eat your words you fat fraud. Alex in Newark, Anthony, breaking the fire anti you have yourself a wonderful Sunday. All right. My friend you to my friend. Let's go yank Anthony calling out. One of the Gary Sanchez haters and my good pal Alex in Newark and look. Saturday night is why you stick with Gary Sanchez, not defending his regular season and was shameful. Was tough to watch. Having a sub two hundred batting average is unacceptable. Have the issues behind the plate. Also unacceptable. But you stick with a towel like that. Keys to their credit wise enough to realize we can't win the World Series. Is we have this guy? Right. Why did Gary Sanchez do on Saturday? He was your main hitting star in a Muslim playoff game at Fenway park. That's the way do it. That's the way to change your air on your season. Just like that. But said to the bread shock Vinnie. Jones says many foul what's happening brother JJ, thanks for taking my call by Vinnie. My pleasure. What are you got before? I get to my question. I just want to say is a Yankee fan. I feel really good after tonight last night a lot of people had called and they were freaking out because it was one game. But even though we lost the way we fought and came back the bullpen shut them down. I felt so confident what Tanaka going tonight. Now my question for you. I guess Severino was pitching game three. Is it wrong of me to wanna CCC pitched game four? And then if it's gained five go to Tanaka and not have had baseball thing anymore, or do you think they're not gonna at all and just stable for? If we go to the AL, she gets that's a very very good question now Vinnie if I were managing the team, I would start CCC bacteria, and it's not even overreacting to what we saw in game one from Jay who has very good numbers against Boston. But it's the fact that also has very good numbers against Boston. I know I'm going to have J hap- available. The pitch out of the bullpen potentially in one of those games. So I would give CC the ball. He's got October pedigree. He's pitched in big games in the past. I'd have no problem giving up all the back you, but I am very curious to see what Aaron Boone is going to do. But you bring up a very fascinating second point when it comes to gain five if there is a game five in this series. And I am with you a thousand percent if there's an came five next Thursday, Masahiro Tanaka absolutely, positively has to get that store for the New York Yankees. And it has nothing to do with J hat. This is not all of a sudden a referendum on Jay Z Yankee because a one bad start. It's because Tanaka has shown an ability to rise to the occasion over and over and over again, and I have to give him the ball in that situation. Absolutely. I totally agree. Knowing that we only need like four innings from CC. That's it. We get four innings or bullpen comes in and just shut them down. And that's all I had to say, thanks for taking my call. I appreciate it. But you gotta have a wonderful Sunday have a wonderful rest of your week and the Anki fan flying high until Monday night, and is going to be a Jew. Stop jacked up fired up crowd. And I got an interesting texts from Evan because he was up there. And I said what's the bible? Now. I always curious. I didn't get a chance to go workman's a sucker this is. So I have to do TV yesterday. I'm here doing radio today. I wish I was doing TV today. I mean, I work when they tell me to work, but I asked them, and I said, what's the what's the atmosphere up there, and I know Fenway could get raucous. I know Finley king Roddy. Now, maybe it's because the Yankees took him right out of the game. But he said to me Yankee Stadium was louder wall that new Yankee Stadium was loud and Fenway park. I expect it to be at another level with the Red Sox coming in. And we'll see if Severino who were warded. The trust of his manager and a brain trust but star now Walker. You can do what he did against Boston. What was it a couple of weeks ago? Well, see if those Yankee bats, especially judge STAN can keep going on our judge. Then said you Sanchez you need to get go all no expensive, but's that's the guy. You gotta get calling. Maybe that was a Freudian slip. Staying is opening. He's gonna get going Stanton. Right now has been tough to watch can't defend I want you to hide gun. You're the big dog. You got four but said to Madison Powell long-off, pow Mikey is up next on a foul. What's up like you? Boy. Mike. It's good to hear that voice, man. All his good pro. Oh, good W tonight. Tanaka take taken out of the game or Batanes is going to today. I was surprised EPA Kansas went to second inning because he pitched really well in the first inning. They now have this newfound confidence in ham, especially after what you saw in the wildcard game. So to me the surprise was taken Tanaka out after five, but hey, Mike. Let's give the manager credit. I wouldn't have made that move. I would've have Tanaka start to sixth inning Aaron Boone shut me right up because Betances came in. He gets Benintendi. He gets JD Martinez. He goes one two three and the sixth job well done. Yeah. Absolutely. I can't say how mad because he's hitting all the right buttons in the playoffs. And he's talking about how the women and children with price gets up to bat. I mean, you can't you're expecting a strike out ground now. You gotta get him going, no doubt. Mike, and I'm seeing a lot of similarities, and I know a lot of people don't want to do this. They don't want to jump the gun. But if I'm sorry, it's just too easy to do the similarities of their from Giancarlo Stanton. And what you saw with Alex Rodriguez when he would press a little bit when he would see the big situation find him over and over and over again, and Stanton's gonna have to deliver one of those situations. That's all there is to it. My because if he does not he will hear it from the Yankee fan and for those who say all get off his back. It's always fourth postseason game postseason game. That's nonsense. You're making a ton of money. You're supposed to be the guy to put these team over the top. You gotta perform when against the most. Yeah, he can't seem to get out of his own way. Like, you said that big moment seems to be finding Milton can step up because my gotta take it from me for game four that's the wrap-up game. We don't take it back to Boston. Why will be there, Mikey? And I expect it to be a rocking. Scene. And I'm hoping and praying that when I get back on Tuesday. I have one more show to do that. I'm going to be down at D sportsbook somewhere in Atlantic City watching game three, but when I come back for game four, Mike. My mood will be a lot better on Tuesday. If the keys are up two games to one as opposed to the Yankees trying to force this series back to Fenway. Oh, absolutely. I'm glad to go down to the sports book. I'll be there in a couple of weeks for the university of the Whitey goes down on the sports book. That's what I'm talking about. Whether it's a little football. Maybe it's a future bet for baseball. So you and the wife you have a wonderful time. All right, Johnny, Mike. Always a pleasure. I could Powell Mikey Madison was not checked in and quite some time. And. Arizona's made some moves in this postseason that I thought were questionable and they have worked out brilliantly wildcard game. Starting Severino wouldn't have been my choice. I would have chose Tanaka Severino did the jail. Going with runners on base wouldn't have been my choice. Does the job? Taken to knock out would have been my choice. Does the job? Keep doing it. And the guy that's on the more pressure now to anybody. Sanchez. Thank you, Severino. It standing in the big spot. And there will be this sort of angst. There will be a certain tension in that building. If let's say in the first of the second inning state and comes up runners on base. Oh, absolutely, positively added. And I remember being very critical Yankee fan getting on stand back in April..

"Eight hours from now Jason the Yankees APM on Wednesday s tomorrow Wednesdays tomorrow ready to digest Thursday, and Cleveland and Houston should be nice series on Friday. No time for those games. And of course, the Yankees game. I'm wondering if Yankee fans at nervous who we want? You starting pitcher could let me know as we go to Britain and Alpin Brett what's going on. Tony. How're you doing? Thank you, man. How you doing? All right. L on the Yankee fans. Myself. But. Affairs. I feel a little bit too confident. I you know, I if the Yankees come on they start Jay half. I think they got some I really go. I think I think the seventy five percent basketball. They're going to catch up to him as lineup compassionate out of the park. And I could be Frank with you if the start Tanaka, I I don't know. I don't know. What is I mean, these two three star away from what he's done? Pitcher, a big money. Back to knock it a big game. Especially at home. I think it'll be very silly. Do you think? I thought. Between Tanaka hap and Severino. I would like to go at Severino, but I just don't feel confident with him. I you know, if this was the beginning of the year, of course, but we kind of got himself together. I I'm leaning toward hap what on a short leash with Tanaka right behind them. I just think that. Doesn't. I mean, I think has a great great pager. I think he's real crafty. I just each team. I think you need a guy that come in there and throw Tanaka sliders is virtually I thought it just got so many tricks up the sleeve. He's got he's got nice arsenal. And in a game where you're facing a lineup that. Is as you come out there swinging, and I just I'm afraid I'm the phrase afraid. If they think that they have to go out there scoreless. I think they've got another thing coming in. I really don't have. I do think I think they will. I think that I think they'll start do you think whoever the starting pitcher is you think he's on a short leash? The chance to work out of trouble. Of course. I think everybody's on his show at least. Yeah. I got like I said Tanaka. Something about this guy and a big game. He understands it. And I think if you don't think it's going to give you eight innings of of ball. And I think that's going to be enough. That's just my favorite Toni. I just I think. Confident I really do. And if they think. To go out there. I think the mistake. I really don't. Well, I tell you thanks for the call. One thing that we agree on. Everybody's gonna sure at least I don't think you're gonna like Tanaka on Tanaka Severino. Elastic got beat up on the twins. You're not gonna be that long. And I think even Tanaka, you know, you're saying eight look if he goes the five, and he starts he'll be out of there because you have too much bullpen and not ally season left when it's one game. And you can't hold anybody. You know is this could cause you got to win the game. Starting pitchers, you know, sending gray. Absolutely not see Seattle -lutely not. Severino. One thousand nine wins. But it's you know, it's now. Tanaka and hap. I wonder if you start half, and he gets in trouble, and you come with Tanaka who stole a little harder. You know, my dad left at the timing of Oakland. But I still think it's going to be a close game winning by like five four something like that. I I don't I don't see the blowout. Even though it is, you know, Hanky stadium with the crowd and all that let's go to Mike in Long Island. Mike you're on the fan. Hey, tony. How you doing? Welcome back. You man. How are you? Good. What's your favorite TV? Right. Memory. Favor. David wright. Upside down. That's a good one. No, it's not a memory per se. It's just I have to give them all the props in the world for trying so hard to make the comeback because I thought he'd make the comeback. I mean I had to play at all this year. And then as the year went on I said, you know, what he's gonna come and play a couple of games. We'll call it a career. And I think that the fact that he's a realist he's not a everyday player anymore. He's not a go to guy anymore. But the fact that he went through all the fact that you're getting to the ballpark, you know, three or four hours before. To work out to get ready to work out at that that that's that's some kind of desired a lot of us. Don't have. So I'm upset at he never got his drink. And you know, what he did you pretty much linked to dream. You know? You know, I wish I would have went. But the sad thing is, you know, you we're we're used to seeing gray ballplayers fade away, their, you know, their skills and Lena leave them, they get traded or whatever you hate to see a guy who's still a viable talent. And he gets hurt and he goes career. That's life. Yeah. Career, and I'm just. Fast track to the hall of fame with all the home runs back went in the power went. And that was it. It's a shame. These play. But, hey, what do you bench, and they need a baseball operations? I want then Charrington I would be I I like him. I always I always kid my boss. I think love love to get his his son to run the mess by taking smarter than that. They better do something. You know, I was gonna call two hundred forty million dollars. Pay AM, and he ends up on the Yankees are Phillies. Washed up, mama. Do you could store up the garbage? They better do something. No, you look they've they have to. I mean, they have to do buzz. If the Yankees were to lose to the as the market, they don't think they will. They would make changes just the same. If they get to the World Series and win the World Series. This is still looking to make the team better. I'm not saying they're going to win the World Series. And I said, well, we want Machado and harboring. And they're not gonna do that. Before they were all gone at unless it's like, well we can't afford Harper. We can't afford Machado. He can't afford kimbro and the next five guys we can't afford, but these older guys, and you know, that's not the kind of buzz you want. Let's go to John in the Bronx, John what's happening. How you doing? I'm doing. All right, man. How are you? All right. Everybody's talking about this wildcards start. But I don't know why people are making this so complicated and wasting obey mental energy on this. It's pretty obvious to me that this study Severino. Why wouldn't you think they would start Severino just because? Severino from the beginning of the year is a little bit different than the guy. That's now. Now, I you know, and then look back. We'll look what happened to him last year. I mean, I could if they went with them. He's going to be on the shortest of all the leash. Shortest least daughters. Yeah. Tony listen. Everybody's going to be on a short leash best post without saying. But if you if you getting Cashman's head, and the only reason why I'm calling because I never heard anybody come up with this. But if you get it to Cashman's head the reason why he's starting Gary Sanchez, tell me that's the same reason why he's going to be sought Severino. Very simple. I I don't know where where everybody's going with this. But it's obvious to me Severino. But one of the guys just called and said Tanaka, you wouldn't go with Tanaka. Well, I know I I'm getting Cashman's head to get the answer. Okay. I'm not going by. I'm not basing my opinion on wishes saying gassing, I'm going by getting Cashman's head. 'cause that's just think about Sanchez give it a little bit. Sanchez was horrible all year. Going with him. So if they going as far back as last year. Of course, they're gonna take Severino. Look what he did up to the postseason. He was so young award is he was he was right there. So, of course, Severino. It's going to be on a short leash his his past. Is that first inning is always rough. I think if he gets out of the first inning, and he still shaky in the second he's out, but. Listen, Oklahoma ball home, run fast ball hitting pain. Listen, if Tanaka isn't doesn't have his game. He's gonna get killed him. Also. So I don't understand his out of the box thought what if? Sanchez is is a butcher behind the plate is just not, you know, these pass bog. Yeah. But you go you're talking out of the box. That's not what my point is about. My point is about who's starting the game not about who's starting catcher. We're talking about who started as a pitcher. So let's keep it to that. And the reasoning of why I think they're going with Severino was for the same reason why they going with Sanchez. Yeah. Of course, we could talk about this all day long all day long about why Sanchez's catching, but they made the decision ready. So let's go with facts. So let's talk about who starting patch. And we're talking about who's starting pitcher. Well, I'll tell you this the catching. I'll tell you one thing if if he doesn't do a good job if he has. I think we have to take consideration. You know, forget the home runs, and the Rb is the in forget about is is is horrible batting average. Which one of the starters is he going to have the least amount of trouble catching. Is to Nakas. Movement going to be more difficult than. Severino. Or is he more comfortable catching hap-? Let's face it. You know, you starting pitching is one thing. But if the catch is having a hard time with that particular pitcher. Pass ball stolen bases. You. You don't wanna you? Don't wanna I don't wanna come in here on Thursday morning and the number one. Question is why the hell they start Sanchez because he butchered the game. Well. Then you kind of do that. Anyway. I mean, he's winning. You got the power to cover up a mistake like that. But it's different now. I mean, it's you I think you have to find the right comfort zone. Who's on the same page. Let's go to Steven rocklin. Steve you're on the fan. Hey, tony. How's it going, man? How you doing? Okay. So, you know, I'm gonna talk I wanna pivot here. And I wanna talk about the Mets for a second. Okay. And right around the trade deadline, you know, trade the grown trade Syndergaard. And I'm saying no, maybe with a little bit of luck. And you know, a couple of things maybe the metro closer to a reboot. Then they rebuilt and this is what happened now apparently in baseball. The word luck is synonymous with health. Perfect example. Jack Wheeler went healthy. He's one of the top ten pitchers not in the National League. But in all of baseball, so Shanley tone. The Mets had a big three. They have to they have Syndergaard Jack Wheeler who arguably three of the best starting pitchers. In the major leagues. Three of the top ten pitchers top starting pitchers in the entire major leagues now around that. And then a little luck. How about what being jet McNeil, you find you find a guy like that? And I think he's a keeper. Oh, yeah. I mean, look there's there's to me there's no competition second base. And no, no, no. They have shown Shuten, and suddenly, you know, the mentioned the second half of the season. We're eight competitive baseball team. Okay. And I are people saying about people saying oh sing Mickey Mouse carrying on making fun of the manager. You know what? And and how about this for bad walk quick. Okay. Bad luck. Shush. British bad luck, David Wright, bad luck. So with a little bit of health and a little bit of maybe finding something, you know, the Mets or closer to being better. And of course, they had administrative issues that and adding a player to the prime was is going to cost and that that that's going to be a key. But then again, the first thing I is getting the GM slash head of baseball operations four twenty AM time for twenty twenty with Harris.

"Someone like Jay hap is pitched particularly well against the Red Sox this year. And if the ANC do advance, they would prefer to have hap going in game. One of that series. I like hap- not because of of how he's pitch against the Red Sox, but he's not. He's not the kind of pitcher throw out there and tell them you're only going fifty pitches in his stuff would really play up and you can't go. You can't really go to your bullpen. You know, you can't go eight or nine pitchers deep in a division series even with a day off every every two games. So happy just, you know, happy virtue in this situation as opposed to somebody like Severino who stuff is much better hats, biggest biggest selling point on him is his ability to pitch a conventional starters workload. I think that's it's just more valuable in a five game series as opposed to a one game playoff agree. And I also think given Oakland's lineup construction, it could potentially be problematic with hat going up against all of their right handed power hitters, but I don't know. Do you think Tanaka Severino has a particular advantage either way, because again, I've probably gone back and forth among those three pitchers, honestly, like a dozen or more times in the last week or two. The thing about, I think Severino is their best pitcher. I agree. If you just had to pick one, you know the thing about. That Severino though is that he's had like there there were stretches down in the second half of the season where it just looked like he was nursing injury or had some sort of mechanical blow up. So you know, it's batter of, I think. I think there's more upside with Severino and he's pitched just fine in September. But I think Tanakh is a little bit of safer pick, but at the same time, I don't know if this is the, you know if the wildcard Gabia this one game plan is time to really play it safe. And particularly, we really were spending all the time having in hiring over who the the Yankees might might start. Severna started the wildcard game last year, one out and they won the game anyway, and they had a pretty much wrapped up by the middle innings. So it's like you said, if they go to their their starter for one and a half, two times through the order, and that's it, then this could wind up not really mattering a whole lot. The interesting thing about this decision isn't only that hit might not end up mattering as much, but I think they're such a small distinction and it's one of those things where if it goes wrong, Aaron, Boone's going to be blamed no matter who he chooses and if it goes right. He's going to be praised no matter who he chooses. It's definitely going to be interpreted as a results over processing. The same honestly applies to Melvin with going the bullpen route of that doesn't succeed. You'll get traditionalists lamenting the idea of experimenting in such an important game and if it works, so be held as a genius who was a forward thinker. And I don't think that's fair to either manager because the world's just beat the Astros and a game over the weekend. Anybody can beat anybody in a baseball game, particularly when with the as you have to teams the keys one hundred games as were in upper nineties, like these are really good teams, and I think either might be a favourite to advance out of the National League, but they're not even going to make the real American League bracket at the same time. Like that's just sort of how this works, right? That's sort of the name of the game in imply baseball. Let's it is result over over process. And that's something that I think our generation of baseball analysts has sort. Struggled with a little bit is is making sense of of a of playing scenario where like dot everything, you know, it's not as deterministic is as regular regular season baseball, not everything happens for a reason. Sometimes you get away with making bad decisions. Sometimes you make the right decisions and it doesn't work. And that just sort of comes with the territory of a being Aaron Boone at this point. And with with something like Tanaka verses versus Severino..

"Live from the town fair tire studios. Powered by town fair tire. Nobody beats town fair tire. Nobody tomorrow we'll be on after the Yankee game until seven. And then Friday football Friday show with all the trimmings. Everything else will also deal with the Ryder Cup and tomorrow on the Mike Sean app. We will do a preview that will be on with breed on extensive one that will be up tomorrow night. And we'll be with you from say five five thirty tomorrow to seven FBI Anki game tomorrow afternoon. So we'll we'll hold of Ryder Cup stuff since we have a short showed more probably for Friday, and then all the regular stuff. You just heard the manager give you the lowdown on everything going on. So we don't have a starting pitcher yet. I still prefer hap-. We don't have one. He he said Severino was in the mix bullpen by committee. Not in the mix. Sanchez behind the plate. Not overly concerned about right handed hitters in the lineup hopes to have DD back will have Hicks back and has not committed Chapman to the closer role. Which I think is a big deal for that bullpen and the stability level. Kevin and Manella what's up Kevin? Thanks for taking my call. I want to discuss the wildcard game with you. And also if you have time a football as well. The. What Aaron just said basically is like we plan on basically burning out are both. And when I say burning out, obviously, it's one game all hands on deck. But I think that may be a mistake. And I'll explain to you why my thought processes, and that is if you bring in you know, let's they have given up a run or two in the second or third inning. Let's say cap is the starter. I'm going on that and he gives to runs in the third inning. And you're let's say down Tuesday up, and you're right away panicking, and you're going to green and all the guy, and and you know, you bring in Robertson and the Nick than Matanzas and all that stuff. And let's say the game you top guys in the middle of the game. Whereas kid play the. Well. You cannot save you pitches in this game. And the other team will not either listen, they're both first of all Oakland doesn't even have as much starting pitching as the Yankees. Do remember in that regard? You're going to have a non-starter who didn't start that game Tanaka Severino. And I think specifically Severino who would pitch those bridge innings. Okay. That's where you need your starter. Because then you've used a bullpen. You need a guy who can go for. And that's where you save for that it for that. For that scenario, you save one of your top starters for just that scenario. Whether it's Tanaka whether it's hap- whether Severino one didn't pitch one of those whose active he's active just for that role. You activate two of your starters who didn't pitch the game one is to use very early and one is to use in the scenario. You just mentioned in extra innings that is where you use those two guys. And that's where you save them for because they're capable of going three or four innings. That's what you do those your bridge guys. So that's your other two starters. You don't need to start is the only the fourth and fifth daughter on the roster. So you have a ton of relievers who were completely you know, you can throw them in right left. But you also have the ability to go to Tanaka in inning ten and pitching for four innings. That's where you save your guy for that. Kevin because you cannot lay back in this game. You can't if you. You start the game would happen. Let's start what they're gonna start. It. What does it started? But let's say you started what hap and hats going along and he gets tagged for two run home run thirty. Well, not a bullpens on alert next. Sign of trouble is out of the game next inning. He pitches into the fourth inning. And he gets to guys on and there's a big right handed hitter up and you go to one of your relief as you go to green for the strikeout strikeout now green pitches that ending the next inning. And now you're on full bullpen, full bauble. Then that's it. That's what you set up to do. And you save a Tanaka or Severino or a happ who have didn't pitch to be your insurance on the back end of a tie game in extra innings, but you do not save your closes. You do not save your setup guys or your clothes and say just in case, you don't picture that way you start as a you just in case guys. Eric in Long Island. What's up, Eric? Good question question about about as far as Sanchez. I I get my question. We did it again with quite early and his big difference defensively. This year is the number of the show is the big four relievers personally with the two gadgets. How did they've done a lot of his love Sanchez it from the big four relievers. Roll my behind there. Fourth-inning? He has made make a pitching change. He makes it catching James go along with the relievers. I don't think he will do that. And the other thing they uses an excuse here is obviously the bat, but the other thing they use the excuse is he has a better throwing on enroll mine does. Relievers numbers, but the two cats. Understand that. But you know, what this is one game scenario. And this guy is committed to this guy. A catch it, you know. So that's, you know, this is this is the guy they're gonna live and die with this guy. He's there catcher until he's not. But he is. And he also can wreck the game with his bat, which we all know he can hit a three run home anytime up. We all know he's capable that. And obviously very he's capable of knocking in seven runs in a game. There aren't many guys either lineup that capable of doing that. He's one of those guys that is clearly capable of having a seven game. He's you know, he hasn't had a good year. But he can be that explosive. Darrien woodbury. What's up, Gary? Hi, mike. What's happening? I'm thinking listening to Aaron I'm thinking that if he had extreme confidence in any one starter or a one reliever he would tell you that that's my guy. But now, they wouldn't have your guy. They would never announce it a week in advance. They would one of the points that you made. I thought was great. I love all your points. But the one where you're talking about the fans that call you are so ready to throw everyone under the bus at the slightest hiccup, and I'm thinking to myself as I'm texting my Yankee fans during the final quarter of the year, the sky is falling. And then I think to myself, wait a minute. They're on the verge of winning a hundred games and Stanton, whom I love to I love to hammer on one hundred RBI is and whatever may be and I'm thinking to myself. He's grossly underperformed. That's the way it is being a Yankee fan. Even though the team is successful year after year, you find all the negatives. And you criticized the heck out of him. Well, the Yankees aren't built to wins to finish second. We know that. So it's made it a bizarre year where they're going to win ninety eight ninety nine games or maybe even one hundred games, and they're gonna finish eight nine games out of first place, which is very unusual is historically unusual. And so they, you know, one hundred games, you can't say my God, they want one hundred games. Whether you wanted a team they won a hundred games. They did they didn't play well down the stretch of the season. And they have a chance here to do it. Right. I'll tell you one thing though, I don't know about you. But I don't like the idea of the bullpen being unstable. I think the bullpen which has a chance to be really a lights out overwhelming force in the postseason. I think it loses a lot of that. If you don't know that you got the guy throwing one hundred who can throw strikes at the end of the game. Britain has been has pitched better. But if you don't have faith in Chapman. Pitching like he can pitch in the ninth inning. Then why are you going to bring him in the seventh inning of that game where he can blow to game in the seventh? Seventy can I pay. That's my point is if he's not good enough to pitch tonight. Am I pitch them at all? Oh, I don't trust could walk the ballpark here or he could have Chapman wild inning. Well, I don't want him have one eighth inning either seventeen. So if he's out of the mix you're not the same bullpen. Could break right back. Hey, Washington DC. This is boomer size and former pro football quarterback. I insist on as Zach trim for my home. As is the best high-performance trim on the market with as act trim. There's no shipping and no.

"Both bullpens have plenty of death which could make this a game where we're going to see maybe a lot of pitches in these games. I mean, there's a very good note. That's the case we could see a whole bunch of pitches, which is not the game. You're used to seeing in a playoff. Yeah. You think of well someone's going to get the guy was just going to be lights out where you could see a lot of different pitches in this game. You could see. Yeah. You you could see upwards of fifteen to twenty pitchers. Amazingly, you think about it. But it's true. It's the way the game is played now. So I mean, I think of all hands on deck, but this is really the classic all hands on deck game. No question about it. You know, and you have to manage that way. You really do. I mean, you know to runs of you know, it's funny was sitting there in the game. With with d I mean with Severino when he gave up a home run and the Yankees tied with the homerun the DVD hit. But when you think about two or three runs in the first inning. It's kind of devastating and that kind of game it just feels like that you know, 'cause you get behind a couple of runs early. You worry about those kinds of games. Yeah. And most of the teams that will still be alive. Have the ability to short things, you know, especially if they get to the middle innings. No question. Well, listen, thanks next week will be fun looking forward to it. Congratulations on making the playoffs in your first year. I should say that too. So. I know that you know, people don't look at the wildcard like they look at a division title. But still you're in the playoffs, which is gives you an opportunity to do great things. You know, you're in you're in the game. That's all you need to do is get in the game. So you're in the game. So congratulations for that. I appreciate that. Mike take care. Thank you very much and bone. So the Yankees, and he gave you the scenario. So let's review DD doing better than anybody thought. Has been cleared. We'll see if he gets into game Hicks, no issues. He'll be incentive field for the wild card game chat than you did not get a total clearance where Chapman is the closer. And to me that does model at bullpen a little bit where it's a different. And if you know Chapman's in the back of it. So that does change things a little bit judgy said no issue. He completely disputed the idea of a bullpen by committee to start the game. But did tell you that you could even see the bullpen as early as the third or fourth inning without being outrageous. So that could be the case, and he told you that Severino is still in the mix, and they are not yet even made any real serious headway on who will start the game among Tanaka Severino. And so that's updated to the minute. And he tells you folks, and he has been adamant about this. I don't think he's lying that Sanchez is going to catch that game the way he sounds. He's not even opening the door to Sanchez not catching. Game. He'd sounds like Sanchez is catching that game back after this. "In trying to decide who might be starting for the Yankees in the wildcard game. And again, I'm debating with myself. I'll give these numbers, but they moon absolutely nothing because what will happen. October third a week from Wednesday may be totally opposite of what numbers I gave you Tanaka versus the as in his career. Now, he has in the six games between the two teams. He didn't pitch, but for the sake of conversation. He's three and two in the career against the as with the five decisions. Allowing for a home runs in the thirty two innings Severino versus the anabolics. He didn't pitch in his career Severino. I don't think of pitched against the as. Yeah, he did. And he did twice this season. With two decisions winning one and losing one the guy who didn't pitch against the as this season. Tanaka and Tanaka by the way, and Michael has given me this number is allowed twenty four home runs in twenty six starts over one hundred and fifty two winning. So everyone knows that Tanaka even when he's on. He may make a mistake or two, and it usually is going to end up with a with the long ball. So Tanaka gives up the fly balls when people are expecting the ball. They hit like to use that fast ball is a waste fade or to set up something that Gary Sanchez might have trouble catching as as he'll just throw a if not low in that strike zone, certainly an inch above the dirt in front of home plate or in the dirt in front of home. Played getting many guys I destroying over the top Tanaka has been. In the good tonight and the bad Tanaka, but you can almost say that about anyone. But especially Tanaka that's for sure. But the bottom line is Severino against the as in twenty eighteen the two decisions he won wanting lost one. And so what does that mean if he gets the storm to October third, absolutely nothing? In his in his career against the as and again, that's he's pitched and for four games. One win one loss. And then a half is four and one in the career against the as and again, what does that mean really not much and this year he did pitch against the as he went six innings unnoticed vision gave up only two hits and the one earned run that he allowed was a home run. And and he's given up a lot of home runs, but he's foreign one against the anabolics in the in the in the half games against the as in his career as I say four and won the ER a three ninety six and yes. In the fifty nine innings against the NFL bollocks. He's given up eighteen home runs for the twenty three runs allowed in those fifty nine innings. So again, I'm giving these numbers are just for the sake of conversation. It doesn't mean anything the Oakland A's or a different team as we speak right now. And so is hap- six zero with the with the Yankees and arguably in line to get the start a week from Wednesday. But again, I don't think it matters who starts whether it's Tanaka Severino or hab is who's going to finish back to the phones we go and Eric is calling from bay Bill and Eric you're on the fan. What's going on? Always a pleasure. You the bat. Well, thanks for being part of the program. Eric, what can you say? Leading off some steam last week when the jet from the Yankees fossil that same night. I think it was last Thursday, but just getting back to my point. It's you know, you reiterated this Sanchez should not be catching anybody. You know, you go back to Joe Girardi hitting one home run twenty five Rb is in nineteen ninety six big triple against the Braves. That's all you need a guy calling a game is more important than a guy that could hit a home run occasionally. Well, calling a game as one thing. And again, it's it's whether or not the the game that's being called by whomever is catching up to the future to deliver where that pitches supposed to go, and he's got to have his command. He's going to have his control. So it's a two way street with. Got a question for you. To cut you off. No, you can cut me off. But I'm just saying I think it's more the see everyone talks about calling a good game. And and I think yes, that's obviously very important to know the and how to get him out. But it's also more important. I think for the venture to go about executing that particular pitch, but yes, go ahead. Absolutely. When you got somebody behind the plate that you used to. And we've we've seen it over and over again with the mix between Severino and ham. And you've gotta go Tanaka because I was there in the stadium last year when he pitched eight innings one nothing ball, and you know, the guy Greg Burridge whoever wants forgot about hit the only home run to beat the Indians at home. Now that guy Tanaka comes up for big games. He is a big game performer. I've seen it before he seems to lose his focus during the regular season. And there's a hundred and sixty two games and he does twenty one St.. Whatever it is. But he seems to really come up in the big spot. And I don't know about you. I know that it's like, you know, what Brian Cashman is columnist strings from behind the scene like wizard of Oz. Don't pay any tax into the man behind the curtain. Brian Cashman is making these decisions. Like when Aaron Boone sits down and says, you know, we're going to have to sit here and analyze it as an organization did you ever hear that coming at Joe Tores mouth Joe Girardi is mouth or even buck Showalter's mouth? No. It was the head coach that it. So what I'm saying? Is that Brian Cashman is going to make this decision. Now if. Aaron Boone, I'm sorry. Hitches his rights to J hat, and he blows it up that might be fireable of facts. He might wanna go with Severino or Tanaka first because he might be able to save his hide and don't get me wrong. The guy is thirty five games about five hundred. I am not complaining I have not been happy with the way that Aaron Boone is run this team. Now, I don't think it's his fault. I think the fault is that we don't have any starters that goes seven in. Because once you haven't started that goes seven innings all you have to do is have three relief guys. So you're possibility of going bad is lesson. But every night, it seems like everybody goes five innings, and then we need about six individuals to win the game. And if you put that many humans baseball game, you're going to mess up. It's a very simple. Very simple formula that Joe Tori and Joe Girardi put forward and he should follow that. And Steve thank you so much how good evening, well you too. And and you've got it all figured out. I don't know if it's all that simple. But nonetheless Boone's issue is that he may stay with starters. Too long. We've seen that he may stay with the bullpen guys. Too long. We've seen that when they don't have it. But it's a different day and age with the rookie manager, especially Calloway with the Metropolitans, and we used to think and still do that the front office has a lot of input whether was Alderson maybe now John Rico, but the bottom line is we know that Cashman has a tremendous amount of input. And maybe let's face it. Maybe dictating to an era. Boone the lineup and where they should be batting in the lineup who should play who should said et cetera et cetera. I don't know how much or a ton of me. And Aaron Boone has I don't think very much and whether it's a rookie manager in in in Boston. Whether it's here in New York with both teams the front office has a tremendous amount of import. And again, we have seen the best and the worst of the rookie manager the very best in Boston. That's for sure what the kind of season they have had. And and certainly with the Yankees. Listen, you can point a finger at Aaron Boone with all the faults. A team has won well over ninety games and headed for the post season. That's the bottom line with any manager is the wins and the losses. Although let's face it already. I would think that Cashman will dictate whether it says San. Hsieh's behind the plate or not. My thinking is that a is going to be Sanchez behind the plate between you and me and the lamppost it should be role. Mine is a better catcher. And you could get by with him. If everybody else is going to be providing the kind of power that the rest of the lineup has all right. We'll take a break. We have a line open. We're going to be around in Jill to everything is on the table on this Monday nine slash Tuesday morning week three in the NFL. The New York football giants. "So there are issues, and then there are questions and mainly. I was driving listening in the main two questions you Yankee fans haven't what most of the baseball has with his team and this wildcard game is who's pitching and who's catching. I don't think the Yankees have a question with the catcher. Because if you listen to the pre-game Boone told, you Sanchez is the catcher. And for everything I just chronicled for poor defensive play for as one eighty batting average for swinging and balls in the third I believe that Sanchez is still the play catcher. Because if you're not gonna play Sanchez a catcher in the wildcard game. Why would you plan at any other point? This is the thing. I don't get I understand it's a one game playoff. I get it. And you need to make sure you win that game. So what you're saying is when you when you say that and then you play. And you don't play Sanchez. You're saying that he's not my best lineup. My best lineup because I need this one win. If for one game, I'm better with Roman. So you win that game. And then you play game one against the Red Sox. How can you argue that Sanchez should be in the lineup game? One against the Red Sox. Is it important? You're gonna play Sanchez unless it's a must-win game. Then you they're all must win in the postseason. Sanchez your catcher for good or for work for good or for bad. That's him. He's the guy. This team has a catcher his name is Gary Sanchez when he's healthy. You want to revisit that next year? That's something to consider. You want to D H M if he really feel like he has made no progress on plate and make him the backup catcher in D H on how you going to do with the way the constructed right now. But right now Sanchez is your catcher and the and the Yankees are going to ride with them. I have no doubt. I really don't. I have no doubt. There's nothing that could happen. As pours. He's been behind the plate at any moment. He can set it off and hit two three home runs in a in a four game stretch. That's what you're looking for. Then there's the pitcher who starting the game. That's obviously the big one. And there's obviously everyone knows there's three options this hap- Tanaka Severino, and we'll get into it because I'm up against the break. But I will tell you this. I think the Yankees want to start Severino, I think with all their heart. They wanna give him that game. They know that there is one pitcher they have that can absolutely shut down a lineup. He's got the highest ceiling, but he's also got the lowest floor. But in a game like that the ways pitched for the most part all year. And who he is to them and what they think about his stuff. And where he is in this franchise. I think they want to give him the start desperately. I don't know if they will. But I think that's the guy. They want to give the start to. He's got he's got one or two more. He's got one more start really before that game right now hap is lined up to pitch. It. I think any of the three available options. Me personally. I think I'd go Tanaka. I have the most faith that Tanaka will give me a good start. He's been their best postseason pitcher. He's been in this spot. When his stuff is working. It's tremendous down in the zone. I like Tanaka. I think they wanna start severing. So there are issues there definitely issues. I chronicle them. We're gonna talk about them. Give me a call eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six but at the same time take a step back and say to yourself, you know, what this is a long journey. "The band. I'll go to one. We got talking baseball with ran, right? Coming up on a cock. You'll get to the Yankee baseball is afternoon against the Orioles. A couple of quick football notes. Tough game for the giants this week. I have to go down to Houston. Second trip back to the Lone Star state not going to be easy as I see Kimmy Jones. I know her on the NFL network talking about the giants smiling face talking about the giants. And the Texas is going to be easy. They could be oh and three John Mary came out and said, yeah, he's not happy that they're all into, but it's an along fees in eternally going the giant offensive line, Betty, get better. And at some point. I don't think they have the answer here. The Mr. gentleman is first year as. General manager aggressively swapped some things around and paid some money and got free agent. Stop grade giant offensive line. Hasn't quite kicked in yet. Have not seen the result of that upgraded giant offensive line because Eli manning has been dodging and we formed snap one in week one against the Jags. So kind of feel bad for Eli. And I just my personal opinion NATO jazz and played well yet, and I paid them a lot of money. Probably overpaid him to get him. I certainly believe he can play better than any played the first couple of weeks, but Eric flowers just can't play. They thought moving him to the right side from the left side would cure his ills. Left right center. Doesn't much matter. Eric flowers doesn't Blackwell and that's an issue for the giants. I don't know if they've got an answer coming off their bench. It doesn't seem to be the case, but they got their work cut out for him against the Texans on the road on Sunday. Meanwhile, jets have already put it out in the column for this week losing on Thursday night to the Browns. Coughing up a fourteen point lead kudos to Baker Mayfield. You know, listening here on the fan. I thought that's through the jets were getting perfectly fine. What I'd like Sam darnold better. I was happy Donald fell to the jets. I believe over the course of his career Sam darnold. We'll be the better quarterback. But now by March, and I think Baker Mayfield gonna be really good for the Cleveland Browns. And he was really good the other night. I know that people are getting on the penalties, and they were stupid and clock management, which was really poor and coverage in the secondary, which wasn't good enough and coaching and the ability to finish a game when you have a leave and all those things are very true and are caused concern. I had a different cause. And I said, no one else talk about this. And I don't know why maybe it was because it was darnold against you comparing the two and the like. That I was looking with a little bit of a tougher. I it Sam darnold who we know what he's done so far in his three starts in his professional career. Does depict six early? Then plays great against Detroit. I didn't play near as well last week against Miami. And then couldn't come back after Baker Mayfield heading one up in the game against Cleveland the other night. Here's what worries me slash scares me about Sam darnold, and it's certainly something that is correctable and maybe correctable quickly and shortly and certainly had better be over time. But what I saw out of Sam darnold the other night. Was happy feet. The offensive line is not great right now here in New York, we have to pretty poor offensive line for both the jets and the giants. I would say the jets had slightly superior to the giants and not saying a lot 'cause giants offensive line right now Spinks on ice. And the jets are only slightly better. They did a nice job open some halls run blocking thing I saw in a preseason. And they didn't do as well against ramming in game two, but they did real well against Detroit game one the run blocking has been fine. Maybe even slightly above average in pass blocking not nearly as good and Sam darnold has an uncanny ability to make plays outside the pocket. He sees the she feels to Bry she gets out of the pocket. He can make accurate throws. Keep his head downfield deliver the football two guys. He's really good at it. But he shouldn't have to do it on his many plays as he is so far, and that's the offensive line's fault. But what bothers me and scares me is. There are there were times in the game. The other night with the pocket was fine. It was not collapsing. It was not imminent pressure on Sam darnold that one of the defensive linemen are blitzing linebacker. Somebody coming off the edge corner of safety was going to get their hands on Sam darnold any pity patting his feet back there. He's just waiting to make the break out of the pocket to make a play on the run. That was the difference between Baker Mayfield. Sam Donald the other night when the pockets there for Mayfield he stays in the pocket. When he is forced to get out when he needs to get out. He gets out makes plays on the run same as darnold. Darnold is much quicker to get to that get out of the pocket saved my life. I'm that good on the Ron I can make plays on the run. Well, when you do that on the run, and you swing either right or left. You do realize you shrink the field, you're making that much more difficult, and by the way, Donald through the pick six week one against Detroit any add another one last week where he to all the way back across the field. And it was knocked down and could very well have been picked again. And by the way Sam Scott five. I n teased I three weeks which is not good three touchdowns five. I n t. You would prefer to stay in the pocket. The best way to pick apart. A defense is to do the great majority of your throws directly from the pocket because then have to play you honest. They have to play the entire field. They don't have to just play half of it. And I watched enough of Sam darnold. Did you USC that I think he's doing it more now with the jets than he did in college? I don't know if it's because of lack of confidence in his offensive line. I don't over to because he's still nervous because it's only his third professional start that he feels the need to protect themselves and get out of there. The fact that he's made some really nice plays on the run. So far that he's right now got a lot of confidence in his ability to do that. The jets don't need this. Sam darnold doesn't need this. You don't want him playing half the field as much of a percentage of the time. Is he did the other night against the Browns? The Browns generated a pretty good pass rush. I'll give them some credit. Don't wanna give credit no credit to the opponent. But still sand. Look nervous back there and reacted and did get out of the pocket and a couple of times when he stayed in the pocket because he's got the happy feet, and he's jumping around back there. He didn't step into throws the way that he needed to Baker Mayfield stepped into some really nice throws out of the pocket. The other night. If you're a jet fan diehard. Everybody's got recording capabilities now these days. No, more VCR's. But it's there somewhere in your TV. You can go back and look at it. If you recorded it watch the handful more than handful six or seven times during the game where there really wasn't any pressure. Certainly Sam darnold could have stayed in the pocket. Even did stay in the pocket, but didn't get off that good strong Terrell why because he didn't have confidence to plant and take that step forward and get into the throw. He can do it. I know you do it. He's done it. He's done it a couple of times with the jets. But he didn't do it enough the other night, and it's something you really need to keep your eye on if you are the gets going forward. He's got to have some competent tonight offensive line eight seven seven three three seven six six six six. All right. Let me get at least one call up here before you get our first time added rob from queens on a fan. Rob on Joey. Two things. One for the Yankees giants for the Yankees. But he opened game. I would say Tanaka Severino and stick it to the boss to our Goto hap. And lend also the giants. Well, what do you mean Tanaka and Severino? It's Tanaka can go six ending result bowl. And then you have as a backup, Jeff Severino tobacco them up to the door. Oh, you ought to have the other starter in waiting just in case because last year Reno didn't make it through the first inning. Right. Okay. All right. I see where you're going. And with the giants Eli is younger than what they need a young, no matter how you slice this. He is not going to be the answer to any. Further progress. Do me do me watched you watch potent two giant game? So far, right. Yes. There's no offense of lies. Gimme the reasons. Why the giants lost because they have no offensive line. Okay. That's resume one. What's number two? And the defense is not tight. Okay. What's number three? There's no two cats rushing is not that great. What's number four? Before I think, I think bad coaches, okay? You gotta keep going before you get the manning. So I don't know why you as a giant fan would call in today and say damage the giants got to get themselves a young quarterback. If you watch those games. Why wasn't the problem? He's not the reason why the giants are to you got to go down that list. Seven eight nine ten deep and go. Yeah. And he liked Goodwin better. He didn't make an update the got a whole bunch of other things they got address them award. I get the manic. I know the NFL is a quarterback driven league. I know it's all about the QB. And you only goes QB takes like don't kid yourself. You still win as a team and the giants have team issues much more pressing than quarterback issues. "They've been waiting patiently let's hit the phones and my man, Brian in Manhattan. What's going on Brian. Good evening. Laurie how are you I'm doing well my, friend, e-e-e-e-no, what you've been waiting so patiently. It's up to you the mic is yours what's your topic our thank you well you know what I was telling. To talk Yankees and I wanna talk Yankees but I do, want to give. My NFL picks okay I. Yes I think they're going to have. The giants I think the jets, we'll, go. Mom. Sobbing wow Wine I think, Donald you, know, I I love. Donald, I I really do ever since his. College I love darnold. Too I just he's a rookie quarterback talent on the. Jets I think they are a year away from that nine and seven. Record I think with some salary cap space and another draft and other nice high draft pick the jets are nine and seven next, year this year I'm more in. Six and ten but okay so you have jets at. Nine seven what's your giants then giants and kind of have to stay. Five and eleven team I I really don't see them winning more than five games personally especially with their division being you know clinks. Harp on I don't, see it think down Dallas I, don't. Think. We'll be particularly great especially the. Dallas. Defense and although? Even? Offense some of the NFL the position groups but I when. I, look at Dallas and obviously a busy Cheol Elliott you have, Dak Prescott but what they've, got left, at wide receiver What they have left at tiny end I I think Dallas is not I don't think that that's a They're okay they're not terrible but not a great team so obviously if the, eagles there in the giants division and the schedule is brutally difficult I see better than five and eleven to me the range of outcomes, for the giants, anywhere between six and ten and ten and six I could believe and you can, make a case for I'm in the eight camp for the giants but we'll talk about I'll talk. About in a, minute on what success looks like for both teams and to me eight for the. Giants is, actually not success that that. Would be a failed season but Your Yankees point you wanted to make the Yankees point before it. Gets to a point I will be going to Dallas for that Sunday night game on the sixteenth, nights Very nice Jerry world in the building yes yes awesome all right Laurie talk about the Yankees question? For you and I'll answer the question dot wildcard game we pretty much know it's going. To be the Yankees against the as who do you want pitching for the Yankees I know what for me I would not be able. To make the decision yet I wanna see who's, my harness, guy coming into you, know who's on. Some level the hot hand, and while you could say based on the the season and the status track record, all these things with Severino that. Would be my natural inclination but after He has you know, he he's been better as the last two starts but he had about seven starts, that were rough Tanaka spin pitching. Well lately I want to see who's I, want to see who's hot come the last two weeks of the season and if one guy is dominating and. Severino hasn't regained that early season form then then I'd be inclined in that instance together Tanaka Severino looks. Like we've, seen to good starts at Rove's Steph Severino starts, to look like April may Luis Severino then then that's the guy. I, want Okay so I'm gonna say that should go start CC sadaqa scamming Jay has been popular for. The past few weeks for this you know one game wild card I'm gonna say she she He has. Experience in the playoffs he is a level-headed pitch on go. Four five, innings I think the. Bill Clinton painter from. There Don't just starting to that game, I feel most comfortable. Out with conspiring appraising that I. Just think you know looking at pitchers that, she's seen. Their best chance on especially against the Mark I, think that, thanks to call is always Brian it's. Sort of like you're taking the conservative out, outcome of saying I don't I don't necessarily from. You're you're not going. For the high upside but you're you're trying to minimize your floor guy he think you're saying based on his experience giving you the best chance of not screwing up sounds like that's your that's your, standard whose name me the best. Chance of of not screwing up and I get it in a lot of, ways based on his all his vast experience that you, have faith in him Because of the conversation we're having that in some ways I think the Yankees they don't have when. When you look at and compare them to a, team like the Astros for instance the Yankees don't have the high end potential, starters they don't and they don't have the. Chris sale they don't have that kind of situation. That some of the other teams have the based on the bullpen, and if. Aaron judge can make based, on the depth of lineup they have, dependable starters, I think that you can put out. There that can give you enough all they have to do is get through the order twice. And then you get. Kicked it to the bullpen so if the Yankees can get through wildcard game I think they have a chance to make another decent run like last year twelve twenty time.

"America now no, dominant aeronautic can be and he will be in that Cy Young conversation, let's say to Smithtown Freddie Jones is Fred. You're on the foul what's going on guys enjoy. The show and enjoying this Yankee ride and looking forward to the New York Giants in the fall Two points pitching, and then you guys. Can come I'll hang, up we knew sunny gray couldn't pitch outside of of Oakland why the heck did we trade for this Did you know that his. Numbers he wasn't. A good road pitcher he only pitched well in Oakland. In Oakland and number two and I'll hang A. Little bit of an exaggeration Fred and to be honest I mean we saw. Sending to defensively gray and his performance in Oakland for a minute we. Saw him, in a postseason game against rural Lander as a youngster throw, what like eight shroud innings down one. Nil in game two division series. I mean, obviously it's turned out that Sony? Great been a nightmare here but. I think I'll double check them it seems a little leading, now but anyway I don't I don't think. So okay, and the second point is if we have the wild card, game I'm more comfortable with Tanaka than. Sariano then just want your opinion, on that Fred it's Severino not sorry I don't I don't know a? Story on a. Pitcher for the Yankees maybe Raphael Adolfo years ago he's that great and by the. Way yeah song Jodi can you imagine a reliever having a song named after him that's the battery I wanna see? For the. Yankees in the wildcard. Game. Soriano in Romain Pizzi Soriano but to your point onto knocking Severino, Severino was in the top three in. The Cy Young voting a year ago This year he was an all star it is amazing how everybody is a prisoner of the moment and, I, was to knock. In. A big. Spot don't get me wrong Tanaka has a lot of l.. Duke them Tanaka is going. To battle. Tanaka. Is going to compete, but, Jodi it. Is amazing now half their basically you know four or five? Beds stores hustle. Yankee fans want to Luis Severino down the river now at least give him credit. In that he's Severino struggling because the Yankee fans that I've been talking to kind of like ease right by that Balance right I get. It he's the pitch his. Last five starts you have. To look at that you have to acknowledge it and if, it continues you know maybe we do have a. Tanaka Severino conversation mid-september. But when a guy right now at least in the first half dominated. The way that he did, I think you gotta give. Them, at least this, next month, to let him around in. The form before you're going to say you don't want. Him, starting a wild card game beauty the conversation is to pack that we don't have it we don't have to habit predict weeks let the Knicks We play out we get September fifteenth Yankees may still be trailing the Red Sox to have a bunch of, game against them but then you talk about would you. Take two out of four no no no you're gonna. Need six out of seven as a. Matter of fact But remember that conversation, let's let's let them six, weeks play out before we decide between? Tanakh, and, submarine. Let's say to Harrison New Jersey Tony. Tony you're on the fan Marriage and New York New York mistake. Tony mama steak west okay I took all. The time I love you..

Better than nothing and we got something we've got an hour and change Me and you. And your phone calls at eight, seven seven. Three three seven sixty six. Sixty six it's a. Short change Tommy lewd our only be forty eight minutes For your Tommy. Lewd our so it's a discounted Lou gala Which is not Casey on the other side as well he's. Got the jets add on looking forward to? Another. Stellar season and why wouldn't they They are loaded again this year has been. Since nineteen sixty nine No problem they're miserable miserable miserable, loss for the Yankees. Today in a season that is quickly becoming Anticlimactic I don't. Know I don't know whether tip my cap to the Red Sox and just, say, wow you know, you you win in so many different ways and so many dangerous hitters and you're such a good home ballclub Or. To be disappointed in my Yankees because because Gary Sanchez has become such an, issue, because they haven't, been able to really settle on a number two starter and now they're number one starter is is questionable David Robertson gives up a big three run home run today in a six five game where they had a chance to come back it just as I thought, I heard bone really. Really dropped the ball on Getting San Severino out at four nothing with due to coming to the plate he clearly didn't have any. Just giving, up a double now he gives up a single to run single it's four nothing you got one, out to get you gotta power. Hitter, up and your pitcher clearly doesn't have it. Get them out I mean if you're so proud of this bullpen and if all you know if John and a stupendous bullpen it's. A tremendous boats and unbelievable well then put them, out on this thinking field I, mean at four nothing he didn't have it We know what do it can do. We know what the, short. Portuguese stadium can do I look I have no, clue whether they. Win the game, anyway but. At the time it. Angered me it's like don't let four nothing. Becomes six nothing there these are the. Royals you're going to get your chances to score And they, did and look I don't know how they're approaching, this now I'm. I'm a little, bit lost. They sit and Gardner. In the first game of this double header Okay And I'm not even sure what I want them to. Do so this isn't really a. Criticism this is just the fact they sat Andrew Harding. Gardner now they're sitting Torres in the second. Game they're not good enough to do. That if if they're really excited about catching the Red, Sox, now if they're, not then it's fine You. Don't need to win every game they're. Going to be fine they're going to win their ninety, five, games I think, even if this If this inconsistency continues they're going to. Win ninety five in all. Likelihood and they're going to be a playoff. Team so maybe they've decided You know to take it. Easy I don't know To to experiment. A little bit But you can only have weighed in Walker. And share Robinson in your lineup so many nights if you're elite And we're we as Yankee fans you rode the Andrew Harr Torres excitement. And then bailing you out from Sanchez's struggles and Gardner struggles and Grigory struggles. At different times, of the year But, now, there's no bail out there doesn't seem to be anybody who can pick up the baton from Andrew Torres and There's no reason to panic about this team's chances to win anything in October But if you think that they're better, than, the Red. Sox on the field on paper in your mind in lineup anywhere they're not They're not And I'm not sure how close. It is But there are some upsides here There are some upsides one of them I've talked about. All year when things were. Good it's the same upside, downside when you're the Red Sox it's an upside, when you're struggling like the Yankees both teams will. Start the play, offs zero zero that's an upside The other upside to me is. If you are If you are conceding that you may have to go to. The Tampa Bay opener type of playoff pitching situation Where you just don't. Have enough face and you are whether you call Sonny gray or CCC bath Tanaka Severino a starter or not You are all of a, sudden in the mode of saying three innings your out That's enough Unless, you know sovereign has got a gym going or Tanaka does because those two in particular can get into grooves and. Get hot But if you're going to experiment with this, opener or this, plan free innings then do it in August and September if that's what you're going to have to do in October If that's what you're going to? Have to do then let's get some experience and decide whether you want to start Adam war in. Those spots do you wanna start Chad green do you wanna start, Jonathan holder, who's your first guy who's most comfortable. Starting a game where he's only planning on going three innings And then who's your number two guy who do, you want the middle you want to go to holder or green or Robertson who do you. Want to go to so, this? Got to be worked out and? If they're not chasing the Red Sox two or three weeks from now they're eight or nine back Maybe that's a benefit for them that they can? Now start to prepare themselves to be? A playoff team and how they're going to go about it it's anticlimactic and it's too bad and as I said, I don't know whether to Blame the Yankees. Or Sanchez in particular who's been. Such a disappointment appointment, and really set them back Or to just say look Boston's on pace to win one ten one, twelve when a team is having that kind of a year You know one ten one twelve don't come around very often Quick trying to chase. Your tail, to, win one zero five and finish behind them And expend all the effort that it takes. And based on these lineups to me. They're not you sit, down to hard. Torres and the first two are in Gardner in the first game you sit tourism the second game You know, you can't afford. To do that You got hit. Higashi okay in this. Game you got, Tyler, Wade in this game you got you got Some one hundred win, players in this game So I think that, they are whether they admit. It or not they're playing their season out they're not in any kind. Of panic mode, and, they're, not kidding. Themselves if Boston wins one ten we're. Out that's what the Yankees are telling you if Boston's gonna win between. One hundred. Six games. Anywhere from their up we're out we're out we're wildcard team and we just have to live with. That and I'm not sure that's bad. Strategy I'd like to hear what you think and I'd like to hear if you agree with me on pulling Severino today before he faced Duda And just generally want to. Get your. Thoughts on. Where we are right now with the ex but here is Mr. Matt is teams playing a little. Bit better lately we'll see how they'll. Do we got we got a couple of months to go but anyway here he is Mr. man I the Yankees turn to CCC bath here tonight when they play game, two of a doubleheader against the royals they asked Tabatha to pick up the pieces following a rough outing in game one from Luis Severino royals beat the ten, five for the fourth straight start Severino was hit hard he, needed ninety, five pitches to get through only four and a third the last fishy through a two run Homer hit by. "That you cannot use here on the airwaves at wfan and yeah i've been saying this for years i always used to be a guy that was hey okay with the american league having set of rules and a national league that are rules i think that day's coming gone i really do you know what i'll compare it to it's like some who say that sports gambling should be outlawed it's a prehistoric theory i make the same argument not having a d h in the national league i don't want to watch mediocre pitchers who are not offensive players swing a bat i have no interest in seeing i would rather watch a giancarlo stanton i would rather watch a hanley ramirez i would rather watch big papi that i would watch i dunno tanaka severino any of these guests number two you have pitchers coming up in this day and age of specialization that was high rolls around they done every week explain this to me every single league has designated hitter highschool college this motto leagues boom boom boom except for the national league i mean that's an opinion folks this fact fowler on baseball i would universally adopt the designated hitter i would and it's formal likely that you will see the d h at some point in time in the national league what were the other way around and i guarantee you they never going back across the board to having a pitcher dining coming in the american league they are not going to be eliminate jobs and it's ideal these teams wouldn't find the h two or three years to do it there are plenty of guys who are on benches across major league baseball who would find their way into laughs and seeing tanaka get injured fraud out run on the basis how many of you got the flashbacks to chinming wall.

"Yankees are in the news and when the yankees aaron the news thing sort of happened in the media and it's a stanton that's judge it's greg bird it's tanaka severino it's chapman the akis back in the news again and they're very it's a very good team well i mean they came down walker they picked up right they made the trade for you know the the diamondbacks third basement jury you know to fill in there so they were able to send tories and antar or their top position players down to the minor leagues to start the season an embarrassment of riches right now and the amazing thing about it is they've cut ninety million dollars off the payroll from last year even with an that gave him the the room to ed stanton at twenty five million and they're gonna reset on the on the salary tax threshold with everything they've got and they're gonna reset for the first time since the salary tax went into into play in two thousand and three and it's onerous you know i understand that if you go forty million over the salary over over the tax threshold you can pay ninety five percent in parts on on the over jim they're a good team yes they are team i think when you look at the league forgetting about the money and who cares at this point we're ready to play ball march twenty ninth they're solid team the red sox and the yankees are back there back i think the yankees are back while they went to the seventh game of the anc s last year so obviously they're back i mean they could have gone to the world series well they were short on pitching a little bit less hurt but i think there i think it's a good story i think i think the judge stanton story i think they're strong last year they sort of no one thought they would do as well as they did last year judge sort of came out of nowhere to do what he did now people expect it.
