"And when what should we put our heart into i mean think about the next five years of the podcast. What are we doing house of gucci. That's coming out in the month and we're going to talk about it again. I will continue talking about it. At least two oscars come on. Ben affleck's you know forty fifth career. Transformation why is bed affleck not in the last duel trailer. I know why because he is a small character in the film. But do you understand how to market movies. You do not just put the photos from the venice film festival in the last duel trailer. Jesus christ how hard is this. I don't know that's happening glass duel. That's coming out soon. i now. It's really scott season. i'm open to it. Feels like it's being buried a little bit from being i mean. I don't really think that it's going to be a hugely transformative experience. But whatever just put put ben affleck in the trailer. Let us have our movie stars. We have like five movie stars left. I think from a purely on paper perspective. That movie has more going forward than any movie. I can think of in the last couple years. Affleck damon cole road. Along with nicole khaw center right whom we love directed by ridley scott and jodi comber who now after free guy is a movie star so on paper now after free is star. It's true though. I mean. I decided about movies and now i just have to walk into the ocean. Well it'll be a very different performance at a performance and let me just say jodi comber is not the problem free guy. I thought she was great in it. Just like i thought she was great and killing eve. So there's weirdly a lot to look forward to their. We'll see what happens. I found more things to be excited about. Okay tap into if we ever see it. Sure we're gonna be dead comes out. I know related mission impossible movies. Have you been following just now. Paparazzi a tabloid staple in the uk. Is tom cruise. Parachuted into someone's backyard. And because they're filming mission impossible and every week he's surprising some hikers because he's finishing the stein or you'd like to use like some random british person's backyard for a helipad like every week. My guy is just out there doing his own stunts and glad handing the british people. He's he's trying to win something totally. No it's going to be just the heart of nostalgia probably what he's after but we shall see. Let's let's talk just a little bit. More about transformations chastain transforms entirely into You mentioned incredible makeup work. This film will be nominated for best makeup and hairstyling because of the work that is done on her that it seems like it was a huge investment of time for chastain since look like a lot of time in the chair to get that look going. She does transform. I would say physically in a meaningful way into that character kind of regardless of what you think about the movie. It's really impressive. And over time in the context of the movie because as you said it unnecessarily starts when she's like five years old yes and then he doesn't play the break. I mean it shows her like nineteen being like. Yeah jesus or whatever and credible i thought you know considering. She's like in her mid thirty s. I thought she pulled off. I've only lived. She looked great. And then all the way through tammy faye bakker's at just like embrace of permanent eyeliner and lip liner and an and permanent eyebrows. I believe as well truly truly a you know. I don't want to be mean spirited but quite a freakish look that she had by the end of her life actor. Transformations are tried and true.

"Question for you beth. What's on your mind outside politics. I can't stop thinking about this movie that we saw together. While we were in austin we went to see the eyes of tammy faye and let me tell you that. I don't know that my eyebrows have fully relocated to their normal position since we saw it. They were lifted the whole time. My job was dropped. Not a slow mo moment in this movie. I mean every sentence i had a reaction to and so i just wanted to like spend a minute. I saying give jessica chastain all the awards. Give the makeup team on that movie. All the awards and also oh my goodness talk about the professionalization of something that is not supposed to be professionalized. That is the story of jim. And tammy faye bakker well. Did you watch the documentary. That the movie is based on not yet is okay. I watched it and brought a whole new perspective to me. It's just you know. I like left out like huge sections like did you know that. They started the trinity broadcasting network after they left. He's i didn't know jim. Baker started the seven hundred club. Learn that in the movie than the documentary. They have this other layer they inbetween when they started p. t. They went and started another broadcasting network in got pushed out by people who still own it and it still wildly successful. I just side note for those of you. don't know jim and tammy faye bakker. Were highly highly successful Televangelist during the eighties and nineties than there were accusations of fraud and adultery and there was a whole run of events after that like in the documentary. They talk about this guy. Wrote a whole book about how he thinks. His trial was a total miscarriage of justice. And how if it hadn't been basically just like moralize people didn't like him and didn't like how he made money he would have got jail then. Her husband row who they don't even address. The second husband in the movie also went to prison for tax fraud later. I mean it just it goes on and on and on and on what life i've found myself loving and rooting for tammy faye so hard. I think she's another female figure from the nineties that we look back on and thank why were we so wretched to this woman now that she was perfect now that should make mistakes but her charisma and her enthusiasm and her clear love of people. I mean this woman had a gay minister struggling with aids on her televangelist show in the eighties. It's mind-blowing to me. And i think like it's such a fascinating cultural study and a personality study and i love the movie. I love jessica chastain. Tammy faye and i highly recommend watching the movie and documentary is he's really cynical about the actual faith if people in a Seem like this. And i found myself just really struggling with that question watching this portrayal of tammy faye because when your marriage consists of conversations that sound like will. God told me this really will. God told me that. That's that's a lot that's a lot to take in. I just realized. I can't know what was in these people's hearts ever. I think they definitely were convinced of their own sincerity but it was a fascinating ride. Yeah well and there's like a a real real intense strand of the prosperity gospel. I think this this touches on the toxicity of that particular philosophy inside of marriage inside your own head definitely inside an organization but there is nothing about tammy faye bakker that is not interesting and fascinating name and you can just go down the deepest internet tunnel learning. Just what you learned in the movies. The documentaries which is a massive amount like there's a whole youtube channels of the former pt. L. talk shows in like. How did i'll tell you the part of the documentary that i have to tell you that i thought okay. That's it this one person was talking about how they never seen anybody. Tv like her that she would fill an hour to two hours. Maybe three hours in a day with no tele prompting just basically ad-libbing the entire content. And i thought now that's it. That was the talent that is incredibly difficult to do like. That's where you see. Sort of like the center point of her energy in her talent and how it was just not taken seriously also d'urville source. That's the other conclusion well and this likely rich which we talked about last time has just an enormous intersection of faith and politics enormous intersection. Lots of exploration of how the evangelical movement was being politically mobilized by the republican party during this era and where tammy faye noticed that and spoke out about it and where she didn't and it's just it's a lot to take in especially if you're a person who is always kind of checking in on your own relationship to organize religion. It's an. it's another interesting place to work out. Well not to mention if you grew up like we did among that scandal. Like i remember that trial. I remember their downfall. I don't remember their heights because anybody that really watched pto and my households. But i definitely remembered the rest of it so love this historic corey examination of basically the entire eighties and nineties. It's really making me feel young and fresh. Let me tell you okay. Well thanks for listening today. It is always so fun bringing conversations about what we are reading to the show. "I love okay. Cool so i just found a guy who was straight. And who was preaching loving christ and i was like. Hey why don't you. And i to or through the deep south and we'll try to get you know. Religious people engaged people. Sometimes we'll do two things number one will give my friends who did grow up with religion. Something that feels safe to them and a lot of this was guilt that gay marriage had passed in new york state. Like make no mistake. There is also something in me. That like i had rights that people i grew up with didn't have right. I could you know before it was a federal thing and so that's what we did. I call jay i. I actually tweeted him. And i was like i like to cut your your gibb in. And we went back and forth a bit and we just both flew to dallas and got into a van together as strangers and started going through the deep south and brought in opening comic and then like a musical act so basically the idea was. We don't play any churches. We don't play if we can help it. There were definitely places in the south. That wouldn't have us except if we were a gay bar if we were in a gay space so that was a whole interesting thing. There were definitely gay spaces who thought it was at trick or like. Is this a bait and switch like you're not going to come in here and you know be demeaning to queer people like no where a show that has a christian aspect and has a queer aspect and when he he would literally preach jesus christ and i would tell dirty lesbian fisting jokes and light at some point. Everyone wasn't comfortable at some point in the show. Which is really bonding affect on a room. And that's what we did. We did that for like four or five years in pandemic we've rolled it into a podcast and then pandemic now we haven't ran out of producing juice troops elite putting the whole thing together and like it just became became a lot to to manage and if i remember correctly so when when jake came out like that was kind of a big. Oh he's not he's straight don't they have a gay son no are maybe that i just think he was gay. You thought he was gay because he hit out. He does feel a little gay. He's he's he feels little gay. But here's the thing. He came out as gay affirming racer. They did a documentary about him. One punk under god. That's where i learned of him and he like in his church was like it's wrong to be against gay people okay. Is there another evangelical who had a gay son. That came out that i'm getting confused with. Maybe everyone thinks that he's gay and one of the best things he said to me. He was like i know like think. Sempione that's cool. Like i don't care like you know he's like but like tammy faye bakker's my mom he's like nice to go out was alzheimer's like you don't think that like you guys have offered to suck my dad's fake like in all seriousness..

"A thing that i'm just about to make up. It would be like a tuna casserole top with kimchi and crispy fish skins. Wow that's not an actual dish. I'm just thinking of all the grossest thing that would smell thank you very much. I think one of the things people are marveling at about your your portrayal of tammy faye. Is that you really humanize you. Don't play her as a cartoon character. I have to assume that was a huge goal of yours. Oh yeah because. I saw the documentary in two thousand twelve and i was so blown away with her compassion and her love what she did and i kind of realized like why do i only know her her mascara and like the jokes. People made over right so i wanted to really show her true story. And you did. Ryan b wants to antony center beverly hills fan. What are you feeling about. Erica jane this season did she know it's been such a ride. I feel like she. I wanna give her credit but like i feel like she had to know something. There must have been some kind of a red flag. I don't believe that there was just like complete like lack of knowledge of anything going on. It's interesting because it's very similar to tammy faye bakker right at the time right because so i have difficulty with lock. Lobbying in the wife of someone who's being tried it once she's charged with something. Then i can say okay. Maybe there's guilt there. But i i don't want to speculate on whether or not she's guilty. When there's really no evidence to prove that way i change my answer with. So why am i going after her. You're absolutely right. I mean we didn't go after just said you thought maybe she knew something. Yeah it was. Just that thing that i read about like the money going into the right part jessica jordan l. Said i watch. Elizabeth olson's hot ones interview where she talked about witnessing naomi. Watts getting assaulted by security guard at a fashion show and you came in to defend her. What is your recollection of that night. One hundred percent true. Is this huge guy who was manhandling. Her and i stood up and was like get away from her in front of everyone and then the show started and everyone acted like it didn't happen. Wow and did you. Are you buddies with her after that we kind of became buddies because we were both like what just happened and then she thanked me for going zero dark thirty on him. I i love that. Wow that is very. that's very kind of you. That's your reactionary. I'm ready for a fight when i fight. Where are you from san francisco. Cal san francisco so ready for a fight so you so you so you have the same boyfriend now that you had bravo con. Oh yeah you said you're okay. Good things are going swelled. They're very well any plans of marriage. I don't know it's a long term in okay. The pet survived and survive. We didn't live together before the pandemic and he flew to austin to visit me while i was filming queer eye and he was meant to say for two days but the pandemic so we ended up moving in as a result. We were one of those relationships that really forge right and for now. We're we're like we're we're raising a dog together. That's like that's where we're at okay. Good but i love him very dog next up baby. That's what happened to me by the way. Congratulations on the emmy win for queer bank. Let's take some questions for virtual vans. Jessica from dallas has a question for jessica chastain. Some meeting of the jessica. Hey so my question is for jessica. What was your biggest takeaway about tammy faye bakker from working with children and have you heard anything from jim baker while preparing for the movie. No i did not hear anything from jim baker nor do i really care to But i i mean. I love jay and i love tammy sue and tammy sue sings one of her mom's songs in the credit of our film voice of an angel and jay was at the premiere last night and yeah so a steve. Peters he was at the premiere last night. You know the interview that tammy day. He's he's alive and well in sings in the la court. It was interviewed. Andrew garfield the other day and he he was telling me how involve the kids were and that was surprising to me and great. Yeah they have the ability to step away from this story and kind of see the whole thing. I think they understood. I called them and wanted to know. I didn't want them to be afraid that i was taking advantage of a situation. I wanted them to under my understand. My intent in in looking at tammy story got a lot of questions when you know what. Tammy's real housewives tagline. Might here you have what. Yes i thought of it in the in the dressing around ready for it now. Okay so the only thing bigger than my lashes is my heart.

"And one over 200 planes getting diverted even Madonna hotels in town. We've got no room with thousands of passengers arriving at any minute. The tone is asking for help with anything you can do. No, I'd never heard of this musical. I not know it was a thing. I didn't know it was coming to film. I mean, was it good? It is a It is a good musical. Yeah, it's hard to imagine a feel good musical being made about the aftermath of 9 11. But nonetheless this Canadian, uh, my husband and wife team Put this musical together back in the around 2015. It opened on Broadway in 2017 and became a surprising smash hit. It has a cast of 12 who play all of the passengers from the planes that are diverted to gander, Newfoundland, where there happens to be this huge old airport. Which is a relic of the days when you had to have layovers in transatlantic flights, and after the air air space over the United States is closed down on 9 11. Nearly 40 flights are diverted to Gander, Newfoundland, with a population of about 7000 and nearly 7000 passengers disembark and have to be taken care of and with the musical is about basically is how welcoming the Newfoundland lose are and how the passengers are taken care of. It's mostly humorous, but there are poignant moments in it. One passenger, for example, has a son who's a firefighter in New York, and she can't reach him and you know pretty well what's going on there? There's also an incipient romance between two passengers. There's also a thread about a Muslim man who becomes a focus of suspicion among the passengers, but most of it is really upbeat. In terms of the welcoming these people are given and the bonds that are built between the locals and the passengers. It's a nice musical. This is not really a film ization of it in in terms of it being turned into a movie. It's like Hamilton was last year, merely a filming of the stage presentation, which resumed in New York. In April and may of this year. But on that basis, it's infectious. It's nice. It's uplifting, and it's available on apple plus TV. Alright, that one's come from away. We don't have time for this final trailer. But I'm interested in the premises. A biography graphical drama about the rise fall and redemption of a well known televangelist. The movie is called the Eyes of Tammy Faye. Is it worth seeing, Frank? Oh, yes, this is It's kind of cartoonish. It's not really a satire, but it's kind of cartoonists. Retelling of the rise and fall of the praise The Lord Satellite Television Network run by Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker. It's based on a documentary from 2000, which had the same title and it's largely sympathetic to Tammy Faye. You know, she was treated as a figure of ridicule back in the day. But this is a more sympathetic portrait of her. She comes across as more assertive and progressive than her husband was. And it has to really good performances by Jessica Chastain as Tammy Faye and Andrew Garfield as Jim Baker. And there are a couple of really good supporting turns to like from Vincent D'Onofrio as Jerry Falwell. Who, when the PTL club sort of collapsed in scandal swooped in to take it over. This is a pretty enjoyable entertainment. If entertaining, it kind of superficial treatment of this subject. All right, That's the eyes of Tammy Faye. And that's the end of the segment. Frank Sweet Tech one guy's opinion dot com Always a pleasure. Thank you. All right. There he goes at 6 25 Klos coming.

The eyes of tammy faye came up a couple of weeks ago. During our fall movie preview. You have seen the movie and as i alluded to. We lived through the eighties. The bakers were inescapable in popular culture. At seem does the movie convinced that there is more there was more to jim. Tammy faye than we remember or what we saw in parodies from the time i mean it had to for me because my only point of reference was jan hooks portraying. Tammy faye bakker. On saturday night. Live visiting the church lady. I think phil hartmann was was jim baker. Actually so i didn't really know much beyond that of the story. I mean would have been a little kid at that time. And so yeah this was interesting to get some of the background info a lot of it drawn from the two thousand or two thousand two documentary of the same name. The eyes of tammy faye haven't seen that one. But from what. I understand both at end this i can attest to very much rehabilitation projects. You know to to say that there was more and of course there was more to to this woman than what we saw on saturday night. Live or in news. Reports jessica chastain as tammy faye is going to make you believe that no matter what. She is the powerhouse force in this film. The reason why i liked it. I think overall as a movie. It's it's a little strange. It's both really obvious like hitting its themes and points very underlying them like she on like her makeup his underlying. You know but at the same time it's also kind of thinly developed. There are things we wish. It explored further or more deeply. So the material isn't great. Here but chastain is tammy faye does something. It's curious adam you you know. I've talked about this. How this is the sort of performance that i normally would bristle at where it's it's it's really big. It's an actor going through a physical transformation. It's geared for oscar attention right but but why it works here is because that all lines up from what i understand of the real life. Tammy faye bakker this. This is someone who had a peppy. Cheerful bright public presents the entire movie. Adopts that and chastain does to. This is almost like you're you're experiencing this movie. What it would have been like to live through the fame and the failure of this ministry through her is how she would have seen it and how she sees herself. So it's really a galvanizing performance. I couldn't help but admire at the end. I even started thinking that it it kind of reminded me of. We've been going through a various sort of loose joan crawford marathon at home. Maybe you know movie every month or so here with the family and it did remind me of the ways crawford could kind of just takeover a film that dared caster and a lot of times. These were films about women who were at their wit's ends or or facing societal expectations that they wanted to upend and so it was interesting to see chastain. Do something similar here just grabbing this movie by the throat giving it a fierceness that kind of aligned with what you understand tammy faye bakker might have had underneath all that niceness that she presented so so. I think it's definitely worth seeing for chest pains performance which i think is probably what intrigued both of us about the project to begin with. I hope to catch up with it soon. The of tammy faye opens wide this weekend next week on film spotting we kick off our twenty twenty one who've review last year. It was christopher nolan. This year we consider the entire filmography of new zealand director. Jane campion with a series devoted to all eight of her feature films including her latest the power of the dog which comes theaters late november and then to net flicks in december. So that was really the impetus besides for me wanting to catch up with these films. Most of them blind spots for me. It seemed to set us up well to consider her new film which has gotten all sorts of acclaim coming out of various film festivals including benedict. Cumberbatch is performance. Our first campion will be sweetie from nineteen thousand nine which is one of those blind spot for me. I know it's not a blind spot for you. It's made a least one or two top five louis over the years including i recall top-five female directed debuts. I think you had it at number five. So you must think sweetie is a pretty good start absolutely. I think i probably went on a bit of a campion kick after the piano. I'm trying to remember when i would have. I seen it. It definitely would not have been in eighty nine. So that's probably when. I first saw it but cannot wait to revisit it. As part of this who've view sweetie is currently available. I love the way you say that. On the criterion channel and available for digital rental more information about the campion oeuvre view is film spotting dot net slash campion. Also next week we prepare ourselves. Vialli some fun josh. We prepare ourselves for the end of the daniel. Craig bond era by revisiting. His first outing as 007. Two thousand six's casino royale for its fifteenth anniversary. You telling me you don't consider the card counter fun. i'm saying. It's a little more grueling. Josh just just a little tougher sit. Maybe then casino royale. This also helps prepare us for daniel craig's fifth and final bond. No time to die coming out here in a couple of weeks. I've already done my homework. I was inspired to rewatch casino. Royale for the first time since two thousand six when it was reviewed here on the show by our recent film spotting family bonus content. Discussion of sean. Connery's second feature as bonn from russia with love. And i even then followed it up with quantum of solace which i now think. I was too hard on back when that came out. I'm all in on craig as bond you are and i've mentioned i just don't know how you could argue. There's a better bond at least a better bond than the one we get in two thousand six casino royale so i look forward to watching it again here in preparation for this discussion will see what you think of it. I mean i know you haven't revisited. Timothy dalton or pierce brosnan so. I don't know how you can be so presumptuous. Such claim craig bob until you do that homework. Adam yeah yeah. You got me there josh. That brings us to our latest deeply. Flawed film spotting pull. That is trademark. Don't worry it's registered. We couldn't help ourselves with daniel. Craig going into bond retirement. We had to join the cacophony of voices posing this question. Who should be the next bond now. Before we share the options we provided a few things. We consider him by we. I mean mostly our producer. Sam i think he spent about three days on this full question so tortured. Poor sam was so tortured and yet and yet for all the thinking that went into it he still got hit with all the accusations of who overlooked all the mistakes he made. That just comes with the territory. Sim sim knew that when he took the job that he would be in peril. Not unlike bond himself. So i we did go with all brits. It just seemed. It seemed like a bridge too far to me. Josh to be throwing an american into the mix as james bond call me. Call me a purist. Nobody wants that no. We did also try to keep age in mind. We're not going to see another bond movie for what three or four years. Most first-time bonds have been in their early. mid thirties. connery was thirty. Three craig was thirty. Eight roger moore sixty seven. I think the joke goes. We did however include a couple of actors in their early to mid forties so again flaws abound a name. We left off our list. Someone long disgust as perfect bond. Material interests elba. He turns fifty this year. No yeah we decided to old. Wow good for idris. Elba a just here on film spotting would james come after it's a beat our atlas. Yeah well you know that he will and that he certainly could so there were a lot. More considerations will jump ahead here to the options we gave you the idris elba less options we gave you for. Who should be the next bond josh. Those options are -rism ed..

But even even through all of that, He says the lymphoma was a piece of cake compared to when he was diagnosed with Covid 19 love this past January, so he was battling cancer and covid 19. At the same time, but he says that he is okay now. He is still on oxygen therapy as a result of the Covid and is working to completely get off that. But he said his main thing was that he wanted to be well enough. To walk his daughter down the aisle at her wedding and dance with her, which he did not too long ago. So great news about Jeff Bridges. Yes, it is. This album from Drake is really something, isn't it? Yeah. You play this in your car all the time. Well, I'm going to start. You're going to start people even still do that. Uh, well, you know, I Let's see. Do I still have a CD deck and my car? Yeah, I do. I can do that. I like to play him on my cassette player, which in my car? Sure, I love the quality of a good cassette. This new Drake album is called Champagne. No, The album is called Certified Lover Boy. Album came out 10 days ago, and during that time it went directly to the number one spot on the Billboard charts, not a surprise that bounced Kanye West Donda out of the top spot. But here's the amazing thing. This album now Has taken nine out of the top 10 spots on the Billboard album charts. Five of those songs he has five songs in the Top five right now dot completely dominating it. And that has not happened since the Beatles did it back in 1964 and also this album, but that's not impressive enough. As one billion streams in its very first week. So music business alive and well 1,000,000,001 billion with the B. Wow, I know you talked to Jessica Justin. I fell in love with her and really, really admired her role. In that movie about the hunt and eventual killing of Osama bin Laden. Wasn't she great in that 3rd 00 dark 30? Yeah, the name of that she was nominated. For an Oscar for that. She's nominated twice for an Oscar, and, uh, I think it's very likely she's going to be nominated again for an Oscar. Or taking on the role of Tammy Faye Bakker, the disgraced televangelist who, along with her husband, Jim Baker, at the time became TV fixtures. But they got involved in some financial misgivings and their whole empire. The PTL Club empire just completely fell apart. So this movie is about their personal lives, the the ups and downs of their professional life. You know, we always you know, Kind of remember Tammy Faye is being very, very over the top. And kind of a cartoon caricature really of herself. She enjoyed being over the top like that, apparently, but Jessica Chastain really brings some humanity into playing this role, did a zoom chat with her a couple of days ago. And she told me what she learned about playing. Uh, Tammy Faye Bakker. I love that she preached that everyone is deserving of God's love. Because, you know, I didn't grow up with religion. But from what I've heard from people and what I've read and what I've studied people that, you know, have deep faith. That is what it means to be Christian, right? Like you're not. You know, you do want to others, as you would have done unto you and Um She really accepted everyone. She didn't judge She loved them. Tammy lived a larger than life, her accent her voice the way she saying the close her makeup. Everything was huge. She took up space, and she also enjoyed camp. She loved like the fun of being silly and ridiculous. Have you ever had so much makeup on your face for any role ever? I mean, I had no, especially in the 90 section. I had pieces glued everywhere. I mean, I It was a really was I had to kind of go into a Zen part of my mind and just, you know, pretend it wasn't there and that I couldn't feel it. And I could I could feel the air on my skin. It was It was wild man. Yeah, she is, Uh, you know where in some makeup, you know, Bozo had nothing on her when it came to You know the way Tammy Faye didn't she probably did it. She probably, you know, wanted to be so over the top with the mascara and the makeup and the hair and this movie is going to open in theaters. Only this coming Friday. If you're a fan, but expect some Oscar talk about Jessica Chastain's performance once this finally does get out. Tomorrow morning. When we talk to you, Dean, Would you like us to bring you on by playing drinks way too sexy as your opening theme, and I would like that now, I would like that, or what's What's the other song that I know shit champagne? I think it's called Champagne, Daddy, Uh, that would be prefer that one. He actually you know what? And that song I think it's called Champagne, Daddy. He samples the Beatles. Michelle. It's part of it. And he gives songwriting credit to John Lennon and Paul McCartney and the song So he also has a fan of the Beatles. Okay, Another reason to like, Drake, you go talk to you tomorrow. Thank you, Dean, listen up all the re Smith's biggest sale of the year is here during their friends and families, they'll get a $500 coupon and save up to 20%. Smith doesn't do this.

"The judge and the jury exactly who he is in the movies with any kind of trial scene. There is always that dramatic moment. Like i just discussed where one of the attorneys presents a witness or a piece of evidence. It completely changes the course of the trial. Knee the judge or the opposing turn attorney knew anything about it. That does not happen in real life. You have to have a deadline for discovery. You have to tell the opposing attorney what you're bringing up so they're never surprised. Completely after every lovemaking scene in the movie. There's no need to get up and go anywhere. it's just you. Just get on with your life without getting specific. That's not real life. A girl waking up with perfect hair and a faithful to perfectly done make. I'll care how pretty you are. That's probably not the situation at seven. Am do you remember at lot of famous women including tammy faye bakker did this but do you remember. We talked to someone. And i can't remember who it was. Who would get up in the morning. At like four o'clock put all of her makeup on and then slide quietly back into bed so that her husband just thought she woke up looking like that it was. It was somebody that i remember the story. It was somebody that works within the building and and and then she was one of the first people i knew to get tattooed. Permanent like eyeliner and lip liner yourself. A few minutes for exactly in the movies whenever anybody plays something back you know might be a tape recorder of video recording or whatever. They can always fast forward or rewind to exactly the point. They want with perfect. Accuracy it's just they hit it zooms for one second and then they find the pickup point. Just like that can i wears. I'm sorry going another thing that they do. Is they go. Can you separate that sound out. Oh yeah yeah right. Oh my i like to when they say when they say can you can use zoom in to that grainy photo and then those zoom in and you can see the perpetrators face and also like his phone number on his phone. Meanwhile you you could have a picture of your dog on your phone. Right now zoom. You can't see what's in the background of exactly right in the movies. There's always a bunch of high school students. But somehow they look like they were approaching thirty and yet you're asked to buy that one after another obviously greece's the perfect example of this. They remember them. There was a movie called porkies and they did like three of them but at the time they got to the third would some of the guys that had receding hairlines they look likely retirement age even beverly hills nine o. Two one which. I dearly dearly loved in the day and dylan perry luke luke perry's dylan mckay character. It's the rare high school junior. That has laugh lines. It just is. It's true that's very true. And finally in the movies there are guns with no recoil and the guy who shooting it one shot after another is not wearing hearing protection and yet he doesn't go death if you fire certain guns. They are very very loud. Well how about the the scene where the guy gets shot in the leg but he just he just keeps going keeps going in the leg with a with like a rubber band. It would stop me much less with a bullet. More news is next. And it's a special edition of morons in the news as we say goodbye to summer. Twenty twenty one we round up the top morons so far. It's morons in the news at the so hard to pick a favorite moron of than in the news for summer. Two thousand twenty one. There's so many but we wanted to bring in fall with bag by saying goodbye to some of our favorite's like for example the woman who didn't have any training or dentistry license pulled a person. Poke someone's teeth thirteen of them. I remember that yes arrested. Or how about the guy in louisiana who stole a ring from his girlfriend pond it and use that money to buy her and engagement ring. Remember that guy more more. How about the woman who got her excess car. She was so mad that he dumped her that she sneaked in god. His keys took his car and ran. Forty nine red lights so that he would get all the tickets. That was fun right. That was my toy you know. I don't remember that when she ran. How many free forty nine. Or or. What about the florida man. Who came home from a doctor's appointment. I'm found a woman skinny dipping his pool in the backyard. He called the sheriff's office and she just wouldn't leave. It was hot and she was swimming. And you can just mind your own business and stop staring. That was a good one right. How about you before you go on before you go on the woman who did it with the forty nine traffic lights. That's probably a city that has cameras with the traffic lights. So she she was probably not pulled over even one time. She just timed it. So that the photograph would be taken her exes license plate. That's kind of evil genius. Actually and he just was bombarded with one after another from the or or is our favorite this elderly gentleman who had in his basement in his house a nazi era german tank in any aircraft gun and torpedo machine guns and multiple assault rifles. Plus boxes and boxes of ammo. Sure he's a good one. he's a good one. Or is that the lady that was using the gun. Laser targeting thing to play with her cat and accidentally shot her friend or is it anyway. What what was she doing. What was she was using the laser target site on a handgun as a cat toy and accidentally shot her friend. Oh that was a good one or or or is it the pilot in saskatchewan who landed his plane illegally so he could go get himself a dairy queen. That's a good one. Remember that. I had that one. Yeah but our favorite. Our favorite has to be this gentleman in south carolina and the reason that we picked. This is our favorite. Is the renault weapons involved. There were no drugs involved. There was no violence. Nobody got hurt. Deputies went into a house in a coney south carolina after they got a call from a woman who said i just saw my nephew go by on a horse and he definitely does not own a horse. You might want to look in on that. So the deputies. The deputies went to gary chase colpon junior's house and they tried to talk to him but he wouldn't open the door and they couldn't make out what he was saying. Then they call gary chase coble juniors daddy who owns the house and the dad said all gary cope with juniors not allowed in that house. He's not supposed to be there so the cops went in and they couldn't help but notice piles of four species all over the living room and it was that time at that time one deputy wrote in the report quote. I observed a full-sized quarterhorse standing in the middle of badger but worse was commonly hanging out in the bedroom. And just kind of looking around deputies took.

"Just wanna love goupil. Devil's coming tammy. Can you talk about. Seton peter. Steve is a patient of aids. You need to get her under control. Built you at empire you an empire some people. They're just hurting so bad. And you just need to love them. Wanna put my arm around but my arms around you. Tammy faye based on the trailer. The movies directed by michael showalter who also directed the big sick. He's really going for it. He is leaning into the campy absurdity of televangelism of their personalities everything that surrounded their rise to fame and fortune and the inevitable subsequent fall watching it. Today i thought about i tanya and i think obviously this is going for even more blatant comedy and dark humor than that film did but it may be thinking that film because here. They're taking someone who has mostly been a non entity in the zeitgeist recently. And whenever she is mentioned it's as the butt of joke and they're telling her side of the story and not for nothing again at least based on the trailer. The movie is going to suggest that poor tammy faye was driven to all that excess by her quest to just earn her mother's pride and affection which she could never get so. It's pushing her. And you heard this a little bit in that plot summary. It's pushing her little bit as a rebel as an iconoclast someone who despite all the ways we can laugh at her challenged the lack of compassion. And the right wing politics exhibited by people like jerry. Falwell who's played in the movie. By vincent off rio. I don't know why i'm skeptical. Maybe it's just because of my skepticism of televangelism josh. We'll see how much i'm buying. The eyes of tammy faye when it comes to theaters on september seventeenth. And for what it's worth. I will put an asterisk in my question. I did discover today. That jessica chastain put out a follow up tweet after the big story broke hollywood reporter and everything that she claims she's done irreparable damage to her skin from wearing makeup took seven and a half hours every day to put on. She tweeted the makeup artist for the tammy faye film are the best in the business. Don't believe click bait headlines misinterpreting me. They just want you to open their links. My skin hasn't been ravaged by makeup. Jessica chastain says so my question is based on a fallacy much like the religious lives faith of jim and tammy faye bakker and we'll we'll see what i think of the film. I'm very relieved to hear that. About jessica chastain skin and i think that the fact she's involved suggests yes there's gotta be a couple of more layers than even the trailer suggests to the movie that she would take on apart like this and i'm just fascinated because it does seem so you know a different direction from what at least i think of as jessica chastain performance or character so you will see all right. My number one question for the fall movie season. is there a way to wipe my memory of dune. Before i see dune geneva news. Take on the frank herbert scifi novel. It's been hugely anticipated by me and by others for so long now. I mean to fill the gap. It seems at least from twitter. That a handful of people started reading the book for the first time and and they're loving it. This is one. This is what. I haven't made time for to read in advance atom but have seen some people doing that while they're waiting for dune to come out now. We covered the disastrous. And i know it has its fans too but the disastrous attempt by david lynch to make a movie from the material i think it was last year in our eight from eighty four series and it was fun to consider all the guns. Oh choices made there. We appreciate it a few elements as well. Some of lynch's contributions. but now. I really don't want any of that in my head when i watched the new dune because i really believe that villneuve deserves our sincere attention not camps snickers with this movie i mean his bladerunner twenty forty nine. That proved it to me. That was my number eight film of twenty seventeen. I think he knows what to do with Hetty sci-fi material both in terms of story and plot and with the visuals. Absolutely so i'm going to do my best. To set lynch's dune aside really glad we sought that finally scratch that off my blinds list. But i'd kinda like to have a little bit of amnesia there at least while. I'm watching this new dune which we are going to finally get on october twenty two. I just have one question. Yes will sting be wearing a thong. I mean now. Come on putting the image battle there. It's gonna be at least six weeks to purge that you're welcome. What's the time line. I think i've been travel. The shallow may is in it for dune. Great number one okay. Well i'm going a little bit more obscure. I'm going art house here to your mainstream pick of doon. My number one question is and this is a familiar formula for me in these previews usually i find a way to work. A question in that follows. These lines will bergman island be my favourite film of twenty one or of all time. This is the. I think we need a happen at some point of all these i don't and they never they've never made even my top ten so talk about your cur pursue patients. I am cursing these movies. But i have. I have a really good feeling about this. Josh mia hanson. Loves latest. Film has been on our radar since twenty nineteen..

"Out the same old stuff and he's like actually mastered an entire different medium. But that's fine. No hard feelings listeners. In fairness even as much as you want to see the french dispatch and i am right there with you. Actually you can kind of see why people are saying that they might be completely misguided and wrong but you can see why they're saying. I i don't know i don't know if i can and i made. The argument watched two seconds so that trailer and go. Oh it's a wes anderson film. Sure okay. I guess if you're saying that like if that's what i'm saying that identified their style from a trailer okay. That's fair fair enough. Yeah that's essentially what i'm saying. Thanks to everyone who voted in the poll and left comments. It's time for a new one in a couple of weeks. Were planning to honor the fiftieth anniversary of the nineteen seventy-one movie year with our top five films of seventy one. It's time for you to weigh in tele. Simply what is the best film of nineteen seventy-one all right here. Your options a clockwork orange. Which we just recently discussed heralded. Maude mccabe and mrs miller. The french connection. I think that's coming up for this show right atom. We're going to have discussion. The french connection for our top five. Seventy one show sure. Okay i thought we talked about that. But we'll see what happens and then your other option is the last picture show plenty of titles to consider for the other category. Maybe you wanna go with a new leaf. The elaine may movie. Maybe willy wonka holds up for you not only as a child but also has an adult fiddler on the roof dual thx. Eleven thirty eight clute. I mean this is why. We've been revisiting seventy-one films. It's a really really strong year. I'm gonna call sam out on another deeply. Flawed don't spotting question and not because any of the main choices he picked are wrong or off base. But because in a clockwork goring. Harold and maude mccabe and mrs miller. The french connection in the last picture show. I have no reason to actually offer my top five it. It has been done in the form of a question. I'm not sure. I'm going to come up with anything. That's off the beaten path or josh. Well do we have anything else. No we're not going to really revisit anything before then. So yeah your your work is done good for you. My work might be done. I haven't looked at our schedule and low while. I think the french connection is the movie. We are pairing with this top five. I think i had hoped when this idea originally was floated by me that we would get to at least three films from seventy one. And unless i'm wrong we've only talked about a clockwork orange. It would be fun to get to at least one other fiftieth anniversary picture before we do this. Top-five beyond the french connection maybe heralded motto was the one i wanted to revisit. And i've been doing a little catching up on my own. Have seen harold. And maude watch dirty harry for the first time last week spoiler not gonna make my top five. No oh my goodness. I like dirty harry. I like it. I watched it last year. Oh my gosh well. Maybe we should talk about it. I mean that thing is evil. There's also another movie. I caught up with two lane. Blacktop for the first time. Yeah that's good really good so that one was interesting. So yeah. I've i've got a little more work to do. Maybe trying to juggle things shuffled things around and that french connection visit is going to bear in mind. You know where it ends up on my live if it does it all so we'll see okay. So i'm just sledding. Josh in the column of people who misunderstood dirty harry. Let's let's move on you in half poll film spotting dot net. Let's get back to our fall. Movie preview we'll see if we can agree on our final two questions about the fall movie season. What do you have at number two josh. Let's go back to some talk about the french dispatch for my number two question. I'm wondering ken. Wes anderson master the anthology film format now. My personal history with this format isn't great. I think of something as far back as a new york stories in nineteen eighty nine. You know that. This was kind of the movie that i wanted to see. Not turner and hooch but york stories score says he already and cohen alan all in one contributing to one film. How about four rooms in one thousand nine hundred. Five tarantino robert rodriguez allison anders alexandre rockwell. Then you've got something like coffee and cigarettes from two thousand three. That was all jim jarmusch. But each one each vignette directed by him loosely connected aeros in two thousand and four. Here's another car why connection. He contributed a short film to that alongside steven soderbergh and michelangelo antonioni and you could throw probably should throw the ballot of buster scruggs from two thousand eighteen in there right. The cohen brothers washer anthology. Leisure tem is that one that counts that one. But yeah that would count definitely and you know these ones i've listened. I've liked some of them. Fine but i've never. I haven't liked any of those as much as i'd like the individual feature films directors and i just thinking about why is that i just feel like i'm getting water down or thinned-out versions of their work. I mean there's a reason. Filmmakers often start in shorts and then work their way towards a feature right in. This sometimes feels like going backwards. I know there's such a thing as a perfect short story and so there should be such a thing as a perfect short film and they're probably out there but my experience with this format has been great. Maybe i don't know maybe like sin. City is the one that i with the most but if i think about it that's also the one even more than coffee and cigarettes which is all jarmusch. That has the most aesthetic coherence. And as we've talked about with wes anderson. You know you're going to get that you're gonna get aesthetic coherence from him and that's probably what you'll get with the french dispatch. Wes only being west. So i am still hopeful and We'll see when the french dispatch comes out on october. Twenty two yes. We will definitely vote at least a review to wes. Anderson's the fridge dispatcher. Movie we've been anticipating for over a year now. My number two question of the fall is who will i empathize with more jessica chastain after damaging her skin for her art wearing makeup while shooting the eyes of tammy faye or her seemingly irredeemable televangelist character. Here's the synopsis. In the nineteen seventies. Tammy faye bakker and her husband. Jim rise from humble beginnings to create the world's largest religious broadcasting network n. theme park. I mean you really can't have a religious broadcasting network without the theme park tammy faye becomes legendary for her indelible eyelashes idiosyncratic singing in her eagerness to embrace people from all walks of life just for our younger listeners and we joke sometimes about our nineties kids who listened to film spotting and now. We're getting old enough. That there are two thousand kids listening to film spotting. There's no way they have any sense of how big jim and tammy faye bakker were in the one thousand nine hundred eighty s. I mean it was. You know my awareness of them came through saturday night. Live like beyond parodied regularly. That's how big they were yes. I wasn't raised in a religious family. Pt l. wasn't appointment viewing. But i feel like it was on all the time i saw that show constantly and they were everywhere and yes it was because they were also being parodied on shows like saturday night live but everybody in popular culture new who tammy faye bakker was because of that voice because of that makeup and those.

And everybody was so lovely to him on the boat. It was really nice to see you know david. It was interesting because lexi totally flipped out in the last episode. And then this week. She's being encouraged to take shots. And i mean it seemed like you know in lexi was saying that seems kind of hypocritical because they didn't like it how i acted when i was really drunk. Did she seem like she was making a little sense there. What's your reaction to that. David i think definitely if lawsuits go by. The last thing she needed was alcohol. So yeah maybe it was a loose shortsighted. Say absent will go wrong michelle. What was your reaction to lexi's outbursts in last week's episode honestly it troubled me greatly. "Should be running that operation the president of the organization in this case it's just puppet set up by wing year and his cronies. Don't forget his cronies. So ted resigned but the latest one in one of the really sad wasn't surprised at all because i talk to him. Buzz meals owner of gunsight. Just resigned a couple of days ago. Buzz good guy marine. He went there to fight the good fight. He knows politics. He knows finances. He knows how to run a business in every time you try to do something that he got to. The point of basically just be ignored even on the board. Your he's asking questions in the staff up there. We'll not answer the question. They look down at their feet. Starting respond nobody says anything. It's like something out of a weird movie or something and then of course the straw that broke the camel's back on a lot of this is the. Nra is losing. From what i am here. Areas losing its director insurance. They will have no insurance to cover. Its board of directors from liability. What made it worse as they wouldn't tell the board purposely didn't tell the board they were losing their liability insurance. I think i mentioned that in his letter. You can't says you cannot expect people to volunteer to be on the board of when you don't have insurance to protect them and of course to hide it from the directors and directors found out about it. I think look around going. Well i'm not going to be on the hook for whatever happens if we don't have insurance. I'm out. I think you're gonna see a lot more of that. Best line of the week for me was the line said wayne. Beer and susan lapierre's his wife are the jim and tammy faye bakker of the second amendment with the number of people. They have betrayed the amount of money that has been misspent misused misappropriated who knows taken. I don't know fairly certain that the new york attorney general office knows fairly certain that the irs criminal investigative division knows. I think it's entirely possible. "Hello and welcome to juicy scoop. I'm back with kimberly archie. Who is my expert on everything. Legal and more involving tom girardi now estranged ex husband of real houses. Beverly hills erica. Jane saudi lawsuits so many things. I was just like just come in and explain it to myself the people but before we get into that you have been reading some of the comments and i like that. You have a sense of humor. Would you like to respond to what people have said about you. Kimberley Probably the thing. I seen the most often is that i remind people frozen bar or like someone said. I'm getting roseanne barr vibes or something and i was like oh and then some of them would be nice and be like well. She doesn't look like a really. It's just more like her. No give a shit attitude or what. I have not seen that one. I agree first of all huge. And and and i think she's you know one of the funniest people were all. She inspired me to be a comedian. And now that you say that. I can kind of see it the way you can just like. Drop these funds without trying to be funny like it's just a very natural cadence about you which i think is why people related unloved roseanne so much especially in the early part of her career so i don't think that's negative. What else did you get you know like. Oh like we want hear talk more about like ponzi schemes or evil lawyer. okay okay. We'll get into that kind of you said you were compared to another rocker. Oh right oh one of my favorite ones. Yeah i looked like gene simmons. So like i'm a chick version jeanson i love it. Yeah i thought it was funny. Yeah you're too. I mentioned thanks. But i got distracted. Very good well. My favorite is always been that. I look like the mean Puppet that rides the tricycle in saw. Which is you know a huge movie. I had seven of them. So i always said if i can be compared to someone who starred in seven horror films. One of the biggest blockbusters ever than let's have it so it's always good to just embrace it and say thank you but i also get a lot of great comments because people thank you for explaining it. So let's just get into it. Let's start with last week's episode of real house. Was beverly hills. okay now. The last two episodes erica now has revealed to the girls. She unfortunately had to file for divorce and she is crying and she sat about it and it just interesting because basically in the years previous she said thomas iraqi supports her he so great But we also did witness him cut her off be rude however in the book which i read it was only great things which was what made me say the book is boring like how they're not one. Juicy story about maybe. Some snobby lawyer's wives ignored her. Nothing in there she also send you never read it but now she is crying she went to meet kyle and she war but we go go crying with mascara from a survey there's waterproof mascara since nineteen thirty eight. So that's before we were all born so she i'm sure she could get waterproof mascara still i mean well. She cried very hard once when she freaked out on. Elaine davis davidson in hong kong. And did not cry then. camille grammer. Brought up for house was severely hills that they went swimming in the actual ocean in the bahamas and there was no mascara. Kushida sunglasses queen to like. She likes big sunk. i do too. She likes being sunglasses. So there's even there were scenes that somebody posted where she's inside with sunglass. She sitting in bright sunlight right with non waterproof mascara. You know just solving the other part of it is listen i don't like waterproof mascara. I don't because i feel like it never comes off but when i've cried when anyone's cried whether you have makeup on or not. It's a natural thing to go like this. I don't have a tissue. You go like this if you're talking to your friend and she's balling whether cameras or not you either. Try to find her a tissue or calm and like literally. Wipe her chair. Yes black tears. Go down now for some of our listeners. Some of you may remember this. Some of you may not. There's also been a great. Tv movie made about the tammy faye bakker was a woman who was also caught in a horrible scandal of where they stole money from all their originators and she got on camera she wore a lot of mascara and she cried in the mascara rolled down her faith. So kyle is sitting there in. Kyle's getting said to and kyle seeing her cry and she's wiping away tears a little. Now come on that whole scene. And i watched it yeah. Did she take acting classes. Because i thought she went to like an art high school in atlanta. What she needs to get her my for any classes. 'cause nobody was buying any of that. I mean that was terrible acting. It was horrible. Well as much as i like kyle. Kyle's our friend. And i think they planned out this tier fest with the thing. We have to stay far apart because a cova did so. We're gonna sit outside. But i'm not going to remind you to wipe your face in less cal comes out and goes you know what was edited out is where i was like why you're could've added wipe off her face. Which is not a normal thing to do unless you're planning on. I'm gonna do this sympathy thing with the black mascara. Okay okay so so kathy. And i talked about this scene and remind everybody who casts. Kathy's my childhood best friend. And she's joe's mom they were in the documentary on hulu. And they're the clients. That sued tom over two years ago. and does eleven million and he still owes them. Yeah okay eleven million dollars. So cathy i. She's been watching it since. Erica got on because you know they had dealings with them. She thought maybe she learned something new. So we're talking about it and she said something that really struck me the. She's like she wants people to be sympathetic. But she's not sympathetic right. Who gave you that. Narrative like your crafting. This pr stuff. I mean come on. We all know she's on a reality show. She's done enough media she. Her side has to crafting narratives and lay it out. Who's doing it. You know. I mean tweedle dee and tweedle dum yet. Who's coming up with this because it looks wild. I mean it doesn't make sense. I you know. I always said. I didn't know why she took didn't take the narrative of i was with dumb waitress. I was told. I could spend whatever i want. I knew that my husband was getting these big windfalls. But i thought we were spending the forty percent of the windfalls. I never knew that anything was being and yet did i sign papers. I should've read. That's a very common thing. But the.
