NASCAR Makes Safety Rule Changes

"Made some rule changes just yesterday. The team's gotten new bulletin out on how they have to change the the car with a chassis and also with the new tapered spacer ornate. Kind of walk us through all the changes with the car right. So the tapered spacer change mardi is that they went from fifty seven sixty fourth of an inch to fifty three sixty seven inch so the smaller holes mean that there's less air getting through the engine and smaller roles means less errors means a decrease in speed so speeds will drop by about seven ten miles an hour. Nascar also removed the wicker from the spoiler and a roll bar that had previously been. Optional is now mandatory at daytona and talladega as we just heard and that piece we play with joey logano when he crashed at talladega when airborne running third on the last lap of the opening stage. Skit on its on the car's roof damage the roof and as we heard you say i got roll bar in my head. That is not okay.

An investor and adviser Tony Partners with Asia focus companies who are working to develop solutions to change the face of cancer human longevity and population health with core IP stemming from AI genomics blockchain smart devices, his previous work within both life insurance at metlife and farm out with Pfizer, it was focused to drive measurable business impact allowing him to help entrepreneurs enhanced their product market fit and commercial growth plans across Asian markets, his debut fiction novel comatose, which will touch on here. In today's discussion is a fiction novel about Lucid Dreaming and it's all about health tech fiction something that will cover with Tony as well. It's available in bookstores today in the UK and Amazon globally. Tony is has done tremendous mono- work and he spent some time at University of Pennsylvania's wharton getting his MBA there the London business school and the University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering and Applied Science in electrical engineering. So a tremendous individual and it's a privilege to host them. Here today. Tony thanks for joining the next. So the pleasure to be here, thanks for inviting me to share some of my thoughts and insights with with your audience. Absolutely my friend. So tell me a little bit about your journey. How did you decide on healthcare? So I academically studied electrical engineering and that's actually where I caught the bug Ford being more entrepreneurial minded and how I focused by professional life I used to build and race solar electric race cars really. Little coffee that I helped build up and and I started my career in consulting and during that period was great you know lots of. Ways to learn and be mentally intellectually challenged. But in two thousand, I had just finished doing work in Silicon Valley and that was the first Internet wave and lots of excitement about transformation and as I started business school I really thought about where did I want to dedicate my time and energy in terms of industry focus for several different reasons including personal wants healthcare just jumped out. I love the fact that you can build technology and it helps people live longer have better quality of life I had a couple of. Personal Peoria friends who dealt with health issues. I had an aunt who passed away from kidney failure and so all that just came together for me to say I can wake up every morning. Feeling excited that what I do is helping at least one individual of a better life love that man yeah. It's a compelling reason to choose the field and with your knowledge and background you've been able to make a big impact and so I'd love to hear from you. Tony will you think is should be the big thing. On health leaders agenda and how are you approaching it back when I started my first business in two thousand one, there was a lot of emphasis in terms of whereas the healthcare industry in the US the US at the time and fast forward through time they're still an enormous amount of of focus in the US in the healthcare sector is digital health or health tech has grown the US. Market clearly is an important one, but I'd say that equally as important that on every health leaders mind should be what can they Learn from what's happening in. Asia and Asia whether Asia's an opportunity or not is there are there things that Asia offers in accelerating growth and scale and product that can be leveraged for for their business and couple of facts about Asia that I think are important for plus billion people forty four countries over two thousand languages spoken and normally large region and from an investment perspective this two, twenty, eighteen we saw the Asia approaching the same amount of investment to help tech startups is in the US style so within the next. Eighteen months you'll see that Asia, actual have more capital being deployed from the venture community and startups. So when I say that every health leader medically look at Asia, it's because the region is just is as awards today with with a much greater growth potential in the number of people countries. So there was a book I read recently by Kaifu who was a venture investor, in China, who formerly headed up Google China and used to work. For Apple and driving their early AI, and he doesn't amazing job painting the picture for China's one country when when important region round where they're going with a and how it's different than the US and I think that's the key thing that a takeaway for health for health leaders it's just a different technical environment data standards, and in the way that the tencent and Alibaba by do have changed China much the same way that Google facebook. Changed West is lots of learning that can happen man that's fascinating stuff Tony and folks I forgot to mention to you that Tony Lives and works in Singapore. So he's he's been there for the last five years this time around but definitely, a global health leader focused on Asia that knows the INS and outs. So critical critical piece of of information there everybody. To know. Tony, without a doubt there's there's opportunity over there. The money's flowing over there. Give us an example of of what you've seen is working and creating results. Yeah. The landscape for Asia is complex As I said, there's lots of countries and so before a answered that question, let me give a little bit of context as to how to think about the region. So. One is mentioned China and you can group Hong Kong and China together from thinking about one of six hubs in the region. The other hubs are the Indian subcontinent, which obviously is driven largely by India, but there's other countries their third. It'd be Japan for the be the Korean. Peninsula, which includes South Korea Fifty Southeast Asia Singapore and then six to be Australia New Zealand and I didn't do these in any order of size of just kind of went north to south and regret yeah, an each hub has. Similarities that that make a logical grouping whether it's economic development or cultural lifestyle history or climate.

In MegaMerger, Teladoc Buys Diabetes Coaching Company for $18 Billion

"Yesterday we told you about one industry that appears to be forever changed by the pandemic, the oil and gas business. Well, here's another healthcare. These days make a doctor's appointment and it says likely to occur on your screen as in an office maybe even more likely virtual appointments were on the rise before covid nineteen but the pandemic put this trend on steroids telehealth use tripled as the virus spread around the globe according to a healthcare research firm called. Robo Global. Half of adults age twenty five and older have virtually visited a healthcare provider over the last few painful months. The firm says music to the ears of anyone who runs a telehealth company more than half of those patients were brand new to telemedicine can handle one more statistic well, nine out of ten of those patients told Robo. that. They'd be happy to see Dr Virtual again most likely that include you. So why am I telling you all this or because at least two companies are making big hey from this socially distanced phenomenon last week telemedicine leader Tele Doc announced it's buying Digital Health, coaching? Company. Forget this eighteen and a half billion dollars. It's rare to see those kinds of numbers. Even in Silicon Valley acquisitions, although there are many privately owned telemedicine companies, Tele Doc which was founded in two thousand and two is the only publicly traded one because of the pandemic business is booming in early March, the company was conducting about ten thousand remote medical appointments a day just a month. Later, that number had doubled. The company told The Wall Street Journal. Tele Doc is purchasing a company called the von. Go using Technology Levin go remotely monitors and coaches patients with chronic illnesses. CEO Glenn Tolman founded the company after his young son was diagnosed with type one diabetes. The Condition Levin go is best known for the publicly traded company later expanded to help care for people suffering from chronic problems like high blood, pressure, anxiety, and depression. According to CNBC Tele Doc had long planned to add services for remotely managing chronic conditions and La. bongos leaders had been thinking about moving into telehealth. The two companies quote were either on a path of convergence or collision Tele Doc CEO Jason Gora Vic told. CNBC. Industry publication healthcare dive calls the do the country's first digital health megamerger and by far the largest consider this Google is working on an acquisition a fitbit for what now looks like a meager two billion dollars the trade publication points out. The TALLADEGA deal is set to close by the end of the year proved it'll create an entity worth thirty, seven, billion dollars expected revenues in its first year with top a billion dollars or almost double the two companies sales this year sound promising well, not so fast Wall Street dinged both company's stock prices saying the price was inflated and that telehealth might be an covert bubble. which wants the pandemic finally, Wayne's could pop furthermore there are plenty of challenges on both sides. Tell dot faces a host of telemedicine rivals such as privately held doctor on demand but perhaps the bigger issue is that the eye-popping size of the deal could create copycats other big healthcare companies both virtual and traditional have probably already started shopping for their own remote chronic care management acquisitions. The stock price of Levine go rival Barrio health, which also manages chronic illnesses spiked almost thirty percent following the news. But let's get real. What could all this mean for most of us? One Stop Virtual healthcare management that's at least part of the answer, your blood pressure spikes you'll see it on your digital sensor and maybe through that same device, your virtual doctor will be contacted automatically if it gets bad enough, it's a future that could be more convenient, less personal, not very private and very lucrative for digital health entrepreneurs. "So why bother having them if they're as they are to adjust well to make the judgements in there. I don't think it's, you know, it doesn't do them any good if they keep breaking. Yeah. I mean there was just talking about that in Dover thing that we call Bush or somebody's broken on display broker. No, I guess is digital dash was wonky and then he couldn't see where it was so and all honesty, having drivers in charge of anything, mechanical on the car is probably not the best idea anyway. So no, it's not the best unless it's again, like Ryan Newman engineer be the only way to be the exception to the rule. Let's talk about some driver and sponsors before we get the Talladega my favorite story, small team drama starting to bud up just a little bit again, bike racing. I can't go bike. Oh bike, oh, bike. I don't even know, but I cannot wait until next seas. When they say they're going to be full-time because they are BK racing partout. I mean, they like that's giving him that's being nice. That is being nice. So they say the racing Talladega this weekend. Initially they had no driver and no sponsor announced, but now believe it's going to be David star, right? Dannat star in the room. Brand brand, South Africa car. There you go just because crew chief by the way who who is Dan Stillman. Dan Stillman. Oh, right on and Stillman who soon? So Mun. I don't know. I think he played right wing for the Carolina Hurricanes at some point. I think so too, but that's about it. But so just because they've announced that they're going to be there just because they're on the entry list and just because they've announced a driver and a sponsor does not mean that they're gonna go out on track because they're history in that respect is not very good. There have been multiple times where they've shown up late to a race said they're gonna go out on track and they might run one lap. So do with all the could deal with the engine. So intil we see them like running laps, then you have to hold your breath and on top of that on top of that, there are forty one cars entered in this race. That means one car is going home. What car do you think that's going to be? Obviously, David star. Exactly. Especially at Talladega I know right. Yeah, because Kuala while unless unless because qualifying you Ken Ono or they're doing single car, qualifying single Caro. So why would they even like how dumb you have to be like every other round has thirty eight thirty, nine cars that are going out, right? The one race where it single car qualifying outside of Daytona and horsepower is key to making this race. There is a zero percent chance. If even if they run the entire practice, zero percent chance, they can make this race sir. Why would you go to that when when forty cars in the interest? Why wouldn't you wait until next week when they're thirty eight right. Well, it's not Kansas isn't a sexy because I don't think they wanted the rates in the first place. I think they wanted to say they were racing in the first place, knowing that they were gonna go home. I don't think they want. They want to spend money for weekend. It is became racing part two and three and four stuff. So of course it's going to be the. There's no no way they're going to make this funny. I find it hilarious. Oh, it's I can't wait until next season. It's gonna be fantastic because eventually there will be a lawsuit, and then we'll be right back where would be k. and it'll be have something to talk about. First multi drama is what I'm saying. Do products on the thirty two with Mattie Bandido at Talladega hunt, brothers, pizza, wow, hunt, brothers pizza is going to run some Cup races. I can't hang up on. I gotta wait until someone picks it up and then I can log out hunt. Brothers pizza will run some Cup races with Kevin Harvick. I don't know if that means to bringing the wonky fonts with them as well. I hope it. I hope it does though if they had the won't for Opie. Great. And then hermit Sadler is going to be in the number.

"So that was kind of a bummer. And Alex Bowman I think was in that. And so as Blaney I think, yeah, in Bowman had a heck of a race go on. That's a, that's a bummer for him as well because he's kind of worked his way into this round twelve here and he's one of those guys. You don't expect to go to the round of eight, but he was having a run on Sunday that if he has more of those life that he could have worked his way to the the round of eight. So now it looks like Alex Bowman. Probably gonna need a win to move onto the next round after this. So Joey Logano driving along and his spiffing twenty two Penske car with his big smile on his face. All I got hit by an axle. Yeah. What. Some weird stuff that has Mary. He was driver Jack attached to his car that one year, right? Yeah, yeah. And now he's got a axel slicing open on the on the TV, broadcasts as said, a six inch hole that was much more than that. I don't know what they've ING. Six inches looks like that thing was like four foot tall that that the head in the side of the door there they use a giant piece of silver shining stuff, and it was not six inches. No, that was that was insane. That was a massive, massive wound that car but on and had an all right. Finish think didn't he? That's it's almost like saying joy, llegado just flipped once in the twenty car at Dover? Yeah, that's very, very understated. It's like, okay. Yeah, Joey was third. Yeah. Yeah, third, so that's pretty good. That's that's, you know, better than fourth. Voyeur with a loose wheel or suspension issue. Did we ever iron down with that was I mean, it was like in the end it was a, it was some kind of suspension issue, but say track bar that thing was moving around the housing a lot. Yeah, they should not have let him go back out there. Man. I really ruined Amrullah's day right there. That's that's a bummer. Yeah. A little bit of cause and effect in play there. See what happens when when you do one thing, it might affect someone else and it happened to be your teammate. Yeah, that's, you know, that's not like you said they had the top four at one point. Brad Keselowski was also swept in that Alex Bowman, Ryan Blaney wreck as well. That's a pretty good point. And he's a guy who's been very strong as of late. And then all of a sudden there goes, he, you know, he needs a win going into place at Talladega all of a sudden, and I think he's still he's he's good. He's he, what thirteenth or so. So I mean he might be all right, still. Now he's going into Talladega. Have you seen the stats and Penske Talladega we've. There, but man one miscue in, you know, it could be all turned upside down for him. He he will be fine. Now up next is the, oh, gee, wild card race Talladega superspeedway blah. But up next from all access paint off excess paint off access paint. You're just doing this on purpose now. Well, now I am. Wow, he should. He should upgrade. He should upgrade all access. Exactly. "Exactly they might have to fill them with nitrogen to get them to the race because that's the latest thing speaking of standardized crap from nascar nascar said that starting with talladega all of the teams need us nitrogen to power their pick guns they said they went around and looked and some of the teams were not using nitrogen they were using other gases they wouldn't specify what to power their pick guns but apparently the proper way these guys were designed to work was only with nitrogen what i'm wondering is why if they were only supposed to be working with nitrogen from the beginning it's nine forgive races for them to decide the make it mandatory here's a here's here's how it goes live and direct from nascar hq oopsy wouldn't be horton to point out like how do you not know that i understand they wanna get vantage because you know standardize pick guns you have to find a way to get vantage but for pete's sake like that maybe that's why the screwing up there's none of nitrogen and there's like why are we screwed it up i don't know the guns are garbage you're running canola oil like i don't think thought this through their champion i mean seriously it's like they literally now i will say this the vast vast majority of people that work a nascar pit crews are guys there there are a couple of women out there but not very many and as we all know guys do not like to read the instruction booklet some sure they tore open the box pull the pit gun out the the the instruction manual fell to the ground and they just ran off in the other direction to go use it i also think they like to give off gas so that helps too.
