"If Trump calls him, or if it's a miracle to Santas or Haley, if somebody calls him, of course he would do it. He'd take the call, but it's an interesting move because it comes right after a whole bunch of wealthy donors poured a ton of money into his campaign. So do they get their money back? How's that work? I don't know. Well, short answer is nope. Nope. And you know who was watching that, interestingly? Because, woulda, shoulda, coulda, it made me retroactively bitter about what Ronald McDaniel and the RNC did to Larry Elder, and Larry's going to be with us 905 tomorrow, and just because, and he's, 22 million that Tim Scott started out with, and Larry's quote to me is, you know what I could have done with that kind of jack? Absolutely. Absolutely. I saw Larry and Nina over the weekend, last week, rather, for the debate. Man, he looks like a million bucks. Whatever Larry's doing, we should all be doing it. No kidding. Larry's like 70, what is he, 73? You know, I was thinking about that. I almost asked him, and I thought, that's probably impolite, but I thought, whatever you're taking, I want, because he looks like a million bucks. I mean, he's trim, and I'm sure, he said, listen, Mike, he always calls me Michael. He said, Michael, this thing was a beating. This thing was brutal. He says, it's morning, noon, and night. Running for president is something you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy. So did you find out how old he is? Larry's birthday is in April, he has just turned, say, 71 and a half. 71 and a half. I'm speaking of birthdays, I didn't want to bury the lead, but happy birthday to you, my dear friend. I don't know, are you like me? I kind of like to skip birthdays at this age. I pay far less attention to them, as they say, age is just a number, a big, seething, growing, scary number. No kidding. You sent me the most wonderful plaque, commemorating my somewhat deserved inclusion in like the 100 biggest talk shows in America from Talkers magazine. It was very cool. You ought to be higher than you are on the list, but you've been in that list for years. But happy birthday, I was happy to send that to you, and I'm glad it got there. And I hope you had a wonderful, wonderful birthday weekend, and onward and upward. And sadly, I'll give you an update tomorrow on what we viewed today. I am so eager to hear it.

The savage virus. Tim Hernandez asked a simple question. Can you condemn Hamas and the terrorists? I want you to listen. I want you to listen especially at the end where he says, ah, who's going to hear this, like three people? Eh, our audience is a little bigger than that. Jim, four or five maybe, you think? What do you think? Maybe ten? Jim says it's maybe ten and listening, I'm sure. Yeah, Jim's, yeah, he's using both hands. He's like, I'm just guessing. He's doing this thing with counting digits. And I think it's despicable what they're protesting for and what you're protesting for and the fact that you can't condemn women and children and people going over the streets. Do you condemn it? I already said. Why can't you say yes? Because I already gave you my answer. You didn't give an answer. I think anybody who watches would understand what you're actually doing. Yeah, Tim, I think it's more than three. What did Talkers Magazine say, Jim? We talked to eight -and -a -half million or so a week. It's a lot. A couple more than three. "I'm going to be really blunt with you. When you do God's work, you feel good. So far this summer, we've been off to a great start with our Food for the Poor campaign. We're just under $50,000 raised for our friends at the international nonprofit Christian Relief Agency, Food for the Poor. They serve 17 countries. We're headed into hurricane season. And you came out of the gate guns blazing, and I'm going to be blunt. We have stalled. I need you. Yesterday I said I need 100 people to donate 50 bucks. Didn't move the needle. So I'm going to try today to ask 100 people to pop in 20 bucks. My buddy Larry Elder, when he was a broadcaster, used to use the expression, put a little in the kitty, put a little in the tip jar. Well, this is God's tip jar. This is the Lord's tip jar. Because Food for the Poor builds houses and gets emergency supplies to people who are starving, who are without a home, who are without power, electricity. Food for the Poor is a beautiful, beautiful ministry. $100 will help provide emergency kits, including tarps, first aid, hygiene supplies, blankets. But I'm just going to ask for 20 bucks. I was so sad today when I saw that yesterday when I was hoping we could get 100 people to donate 50 bucks, helping the poorest of the poor in our own hemisphere. And not a lot of people heeded my cry, my plea. So here's my plea today. I'm praying that the Lord will touch you to just donate $20. And our goal is 100 people. According to Talkers magazine, we're the seventh or eighth most listened to talk show in America. We've got millions of people listening to this show every week. If we can't get 100 of you to donate 20 bucks, I've got to take two weeks off and quit. I've got to move to San Diego and live on the beach with the homeless people. I've just got to walk the streets of San Diego and ponder what I did wrong in my life. Please help me help the poorest of the poor. Go to MikeOnline.com right now and click on the Emergency Relief Supplies banner, which you'll find at the top of the page. You can also just text the keyword Mike to 91999. We've got a lot of active texters. We'll send you back the link where you can make a secure online donation. Just text the word Mike to 91999. Or if you want to pick up the phone and call them and phone in your generous donation, 844-860-HOPE. That's 844-860-4673. The easiest way to do it is to go to MikeOnline.com, click on the Emergency Relief Supplies banner at the top of the page. I'm just asking for 100 people to donate 20 bucks. I'm hoping God will touch your heart and you will feel good doing God's work.

Can Any Democrat Successfully Defend Opposing a Secure Border?
"It's estimated we have about 7 and a half, 8 million, maybe 9 million people who listen to this show every week. Talkers magazine has always been so kind to us and they rank us as one of the top ten most listened to talk shows in America. I can't get a single Democrat to call this program and defend the Democrats vote against secure the border. How about I double down? How about I promise? I won't interrupt you at all. You can just lay it out. Now, the risk to that is going to be somebody will call and lie. And that's always the problem when I don't jump in, but people get mad at me for interrupting, it's kind of why we invented the no interruptions podcast, which is doing so well. But why don't we try that? I'll promise you the Democrats voted unanimously to against the house passed secure the border act. Biden has promised he will veto it. How about I promise you, I'll turn my mic off. I'll say hello, welcome to the show, and I'll turn my microphone off. And you can explain why the Democrats are on record as opposing border security.

Grass mint stuff on found she's sexual harassment and also harassment in the workplace like he's hard to work for both of those things, so I believe that to work for stuff, but really I know that's what I thought, too. If there's stuff that 80 years old asked the same questions, the reporter I talked to said yes, and that there's more of this kind of reporter wills for, Um, I can't say right now because I got this information off the record. But oh, this wasn't someone who was on your radio show. This was someone on you will? Yeah. This'll was not said publicly though. This is all behind the scenes stuff. So off the record stuff, So, no, I'm not gonna identify. Oh, come on. We'll know if it hits the headlines, whether or not you know, we'll see. Okay. Number three is the January 6th Commission. Thebe bait about that. I see. The house has approved a $2 billion spending bill. Boost security after the insurrection, and the vote is interesting to 13 to 2 12, all the Republicans and three dreaming Democrats voted against the major. How do the Republicans keep? Getting in the way of this and why what's in it For them? The narrative point is to support Trump and that it's not It wasn't an insurrection. So if you say yes, we need more security than you're admitting that yes, there. Guess who took down the security bill. The squad is the one who actually took down the security bill they vote. The house voted this week for $1.9 million at $1.9 billion to go into additional security at the Capitol. And the squad was the ones that were trying Tolo not because they're in a quandary. Do we defund the police, or do we want more of the police? And so there was a lot of that effort going on that almost sunk the bill the Democrats wanted But as far as the 16 commission goes, there are already four investigations underway on the insurrection. I'm completely get rest, too, and there's hundreds of arrests in all of this stuff, and so everything's already underway. Commission is simply used by Democrats to try to intimidate Republican voters going into the 2022 midterms. It's it is strictly used for politics. The investigations are already entered the underway, the commission is not necessary. All right, the government and your taxes coming up in a moment. We'll talk about that. Ah, lot of controversies have also occurred over the past 29 years that I've been on the air and sometimes I was involved in them. Remember the Beardstown ladies? Remember them? It was in the 19 nineties, a group of little old ladies from Beardstown, Illinois. They were known for baking cookies. They decided to start an investment club. They wrote a book about how they produced an average annual return over a 10 year period. Of 23.4% per year, You know, joking. That was amazing. The S and P 500 during the same period was only 14.7%. They produced 23.4. They got invited onto TV shows. They wrote a best selling book and then one after another and one after another all saying, It's so easy to make 23.4% per year. We did it, They said. You can do it too. But Then it was revealed that they lied. They cheated and their performance data. They looked at their starting balance. They compared it to their ending balance. 10 years later, poof 23.4% a year. What they did was they included in their calculation the money, they added to their account during the year, so the game wasn't due to the market. It was the result of them, adding their own money to their investments. When you did the math correctly, they didn't earn 23% a year. Their return was only 9.1. Yeah, the S and P was up 14.7. They only did 9.1. Okay, I get it. Bunch of little old ladies. They're new to the world of investing. They didn't know how to calculate returns properly. They lied. They cheated, but not on purpose. It was an innocent mistake. Fine. Okay, I get it. When the truth came out. Instead of pulling their books from the marketplace they kept on selling them. They merely inserted a piece of paper saying, quote. We are distressed that there were inaccuracies. They kept on selling the box, even though all the advice they gave in the books produced in fact, but low average returns the cover their books still, said 23.4% return. Had time to write a note inserted, but they refused to fix the cover. So I blasted them on my chauffeur deliberately misleading consumers in order to keep burning book royalties. And guess what. Listeners called me complaining, not at them, but it may for being mean to the sweet little old ladies. Give me a break. It wasn't the only time I ended up going against a mighty wrong There was a big scam involving Georgetown University. Remember, I was a member of the faculty there for nine years, and Georgetown University Press published My first book, The Truth about Money, which became a runaway national best seller named Book of the Year, You said They called it one of the best books of the year. And so you can imagine. I had a really good relationship with the university. But then a controversy started. Federal regulators shut down a pump and dump trading scheme, and it turns out that the perpetrators of the scheme were two students of the university's law school. And the university failed to expel them. Instead, they were permitted to graduate and become lawyers. I was aghast. I tried to convince the university to expel them, but they didn't and so in protest. Resigned from the faculty and along the way Gave the university a bit of a PR problem and their arm or controversies I've created over the past 29 years on this radio show, and many of them still controversial. Today, I'll tell you what they are next here on the Rick Adelman show. Stay with us. Triple eight planned. Ric Ric Edelman dot com. Named by Talkers magazine as one of the 100 most important radio talk show host in the country. This is the MC cattleman show. What should we expect from a flat roof? Well, they should keep us dry. "He was 70 years old and just a legendary figure when it came to conservative media and its biggest star. Easily said for decades, former President Trump weighed in on his passing on Fox News. He loved this country. He loved the country. He loved his wife and his family. And he loved his fans is audience, which was, I think maybe the biggest ever There's never been anything like it was talking. Take a look at Russia's impact on the industry with Michael Harrison from Talkers calm. Good morning, Michael. 20 morning. How are you doing Very well. How would you characterize rushes on their style? It was a trend setting. He became the model of the whole talk radio paradigm that followed his emergence in the late eighties and write to his death. He remained the standard of how talk radio Was executed and performed on the radio. Did he see his career starting to wane before Barack Obama became president? And how much did Obama help his presidency? I mean his talk show. The interesting the it also helped his presidency probably as well. Limbaugh's influence was profound, You know, from the industrial perspective that we have a talkers magazine, much of the rise and fall and rise and full of Rush Limbaugh was politically inspired conversation is Where is the numbers are concerned he was number one the entire time whether a Democrat was in the White House or a Republican. So there's two ways of viewing him his success as a broadcaster versus his perceived influence as a thought leader and the two very different things. Um, we were always talking, you know, in terms of radio programming theory, whether the conservatives are better off if they have the White House, or they don't have the White House playing defense versus offense. It's almost like sports analogy, but in reality Nimble talk show host such as Rush Limbaugh, who was the best at this positioning situation. They were able to play it either side and make it compelling. I was going to say, Let's talk about the analytics the numbers because I think it is high. Did he have 35 million listeners to my right with that? Michael and I cannot. I can't. I can't speak to that. All I know is we measure time is having 15.5 million unique listeners every week. When you start getting into 35 million, or 40 million, or how many people heard of him and when they're listening, it breaks down into anecdotal evidence. It's not scientific research very hard to do scientific research about radio numbers right tricks, But that being said, I would say it was it was much lower than the hype. But even that being said, I were number is the highest number of anybody in the industry. So hate being number one ain't bad, whether it's 35 million or 15 Million, but way put it in around 15.5 million, which in radio numbers is big, big, big time metrics, especially considering when, at least in the nineties, With the advent of new technology, social media, other platforms, he was still strong and that considering he had much more competition than when he began in the eighties. That's a very good point that a lot of people don't realize. You know, When Limbaugh started it, he was the beginning of a movement. But you know, you obviously become diminished by the number of people you influence to imitate you. Sometimes people think that the originator is the imitator. You ever like, showing old movie or an old song to kids? Today they go. Oh, that sounds like everything because that was the original. So So that was the case with Limbaugh. So Limbaugh remained a powerhouse of influence. He was a celebrity and back to your 35 million number, I would say 102 103 100 Million Americans have heard of him have seen him at one time or another, so his his image. His profile was profound, and it kept the idea of the radio star of somebody being important and a celebrity from radio. Kept that alive and well into the 21st century. If it wasn't the Limbaugh radio might not be as big and powerful and is an influential as it is today. What do these 600 radio stations around the country that carried Rush Limbaugh do now? Is there an heir apparent? The question should be said. What do they do now? It's no there is no heir apparent, and I do not believe there will be an air. The air will be several talk show hosts from several syndication companies will have the opportunity to fill that slot and there's going to be tremendous competition for those affiliations. Um, it's not like in the old days when people have a habit of listening to a certain station and whoever's on will they become the guy? No. You've got to earn an audience. You guys know that you have to earn an audience minute by minute by minute by minute in today's noisy, competitive world, and that's what's gonna happen to that particular known to three Eastern nine to noon Pacific. 10 to 11 and 11 to 12 slot across the nation. It's going to be a highly contested people are going to be fighting to get those positions talkers dot com Michael Harrison, Thank you so much. Thanks for having me on later this hour. We'll talk to a guy that some are calling the heir apparent. Buck Sexton joins us live at 6 54 to talk about it. 6 30. Now let's head outside.

Some of the things that we've had this week as they apply to the top 10 stories and people on the list is a matter of fact, at number 10 on the people list. Actually, it's a tie between the boss and Larry Flynt. Passing Larry Flynt and then the Redbridge station. Of all the things that he did that people thought were despicable during his life, hey, was responsible for lots of the From in your magazines as that pretty good, huh? And it has been a lot of talk about him since well it through his whole life. He's just been a contrarian, and he Was a smut. King porn King. However, you want to call it but is passing was of note for sure. Then Maura of note. You're the New Jersey and here, Victoria so you can talk about the Bruce Getting accosted, and it seems abused by some local constabulary is there and that's why people were talking about him. Yeah, And this is unfortunately this has made national news and his really damaged Bruce Springsteen's reputation. What happened was he was riding his motorcycle. There's a state park about two miles north of where I am on the on the Jersey Shore. And he was riding his motorcycle up along the coast and some fans, I guess recognized him. He's you know, he doesn't hide. He's sort of out in about a lot of the area, and so some fans recognize them. They flagged him over. They asked if he would pull over and take pictures. He pulled his motorcycle over. He was sitting on it. It was parked. He took some pictures. One of the fans to say thank you gave him a shot of tequila. They were there They were drinking and Whatever. So he took a shot of tequila. And then he got busted immediately by the park Rangers. So they he did a blood that he took the Breathalyzer test and he blew a 0.0 to in New Jersey. You have to have more than 0.8 level of alcohol in your system in order to be considered driving into the influence. He had only a quarter of that. And then the reports that he was swaying and he was glassy eyed and all this at 0.2. He just took a shot. No one is swaying and glassy eyed. So a lot of people locally here are very skeptical that these air some park rangers, who just wanted to make a name for themselves. Unfortunately, though, what happened is this. This happened back in November. But you know, he's had his jeep. He has a new Jeep ad that aired during the Super Bowl. And it was the most popular out of the night. And it was a really wonderful message and big deal for Jeep to have Bruce sign on to, you know, to work with them. And so they had to pull that because of the drinking and driving implications, which I understand. I get that you're a motor company. You know, you don't want to promote drinking and driving. I get it. But the problem, though, is that when he goes to court, this will most likely get tossed out. Because how can you be? How can you get charged with D? W I If you don't even if your blood alcohol isn't even at the limit. So I'm not sure. And you know, someone actually said yesterday that maybe, you know, Bruce is very public with his politics. There's a very good chance that the park Rangers didn't like his politics because he was very anti trump, so there's a possibility that that played into it as well. Lots of penny. Any politics and foolishness going on. I think from my point of view, all right Number nine, a focus on Ze Jinping, who is the leader of China and that because of the call he got this week from Joe Biden. And then the focus in our country afterwards. What are we going to do? How are we going to do it? This guy is he's nothing these dirt as far as I'm concerned, and I don't even like talking about it because of that. He's It is just why I s O. I dig myself a hole. Just got to keep moving. Mark Cuban is number eight on the people is this week and he's got something very interesting going on that has been started. You were talking about that on our The technology said. We do on the D J V program, so give us the background of that. Will you please Victoria? Well, he's in the news for two reasons. The larger reason is because he said that the national anthem may not be played in the next season of the Dallas Mavericks games. That's the real reason why he's on this list. Secondarily on guy think that actually we didn't talk about this on the D J V show, but I think that he's onto something there. If you want to eliminate the controversy and the constant negotiations of The players have to stand Can they take unique? And you know what one of the rules and it seems to just get everybody so worked up about you know how people react or protests the national anthem, So Mark Cuban says none of this has anything to do with basketball. He's not wrong. I never understand why it all has to happen with sports. But he says, You know what? We may just eliminate that entire section of the game. And just play the game, and that's it, and we take away the controversy. And so obviously some people were on his side and other people were against it. So that's why you know I was in this O. J. But the audio aspect of it. He's also starting a podcasting app called Fireside, So that's a secondary one. Jay, Let's ask on our social Media, Twitter and Facebook center etcetera D. J V Show about the pot Lana politics, but Whether people would prefer to sing or hear the national anthem before sporting events and public events or pledge allegiance to the flag or hear America the beautiful or do nothing, but let's get started with the game. Maybe that you can come up with some variant on that. I like it. Weigh in on this at D. J. V show Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Right? That's the deal. Okay, let's see. Next up. His doctor Fauci is number seven on the people this this week from Talkers magazine. Find the list at we haven't posted. I think We have our Facebook page J. Where do we put it around? Our, um, regular website. I think we posted there. Sorry. What was the question? I started taking that question. Where do we find the charts? I think we put him up on Facebook and Rios and put him on the website will be up in all social media, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram is well, there you go. OK, complete list. So anyway, Dr Fauci, number seven on the people list. Because, uh, because, well, because he's always on the list. It seems your husband for the past year. Well this week his hair, he made a video for people to see how to properly double mask. And that kind of went viral Because a lot of people have been There's been some confusion naturally with the double mask sort of recommendation, and then So Fauci showed how you can if you're wearing one of the medical mass, so one of those blue masks And how you can make that tighter around your ears and tuck the sides And so their isn't that huge gap you know of where air can fly in, and then you cover that medical mask with a cloth mask. So he's ah Trying to get the word out, and some people are. I've seen a lot of people on social media using the double mask now, which is good, and you know, it's it's a lot more protection, so I think that's really good. Unless you have a mask like Louis and I have the halo life mask and that has a nano filter built in and that's actually a mask where you really shouldn't do a double because it's the mask itself is very sealed to your face. So you don't really need it and the company sent out an email actually saying, Hey, our mask is not designed to be doubled up. So you have to just kind of know what you're wearing. Right. All right, So the other people on the list Matt Gates and Josh Holly, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Lindsey Graham and Mitch McConnell, Bruce Castor, David Shane. Joe Biden and Donald Trump. Okay, those were all list the people as we continue with our overview of the people Listen, the story list so having completed the top 10 people list in a moment, we'll get to the stories that are on the top 10 list from Talkers magazine. I'm Doug Stephan, with Victoria, killing a J. Kershner. On the talk radio review..

"Time for the weekly talk radio Review, a round up of the hot hits and talk radio that we get February the first to the fifth U believe we're back doing this again? Seems like about five minutes. He only did last week's as the time marches on Soto the interest in various stories research done by Talkers magazine, you can find the listed Parker's dot com. I think we've begun toe listed to JJ Kushner is here with Victoria Keelan and Jennifer Horan all part of the D. J V program, and we take this opportunity to go through the stories. The weekend. Kind of evaluate them and bring you may be a little more detail than what you've had. And because this program is heard not only among the D J V show cast but also heard over. The weekend. A lot of the same stations that carry the DJ be showing some that don't this an overview and the stimulation? I think much anything else. It's all about stimulation, getting people to think more. About these issues. So at number 10 on the issue slash story list is the countdown to the Super Bowl Super Bowl 55 he beginning excited about Tom Brady. He was saying, it's going to be a close game. And so J. We've been following this on our social media at D. J. V show. What's the latest in terms of predictions and perm terms of excitement? What? What do you sensing from our listeners? There are some people who are totally into it. They're giving their predictions. A lot of people are saying Tampa Bay Tampa Bay by 10. A few people are saying Kansas City and some people are 100% like I don't care. Next stupid question. Move on. So the people who don't care about the Superball? Yeah. People who don't care about the Super Bowl. Really don't care about the Super Bowl here and the weekend. I mean, who cares about him doing the halftime show? I am The only one apparently is gonna be good. No, I like him. He's gonna be better than people think He's a great life performer. Gonna sing any traditional songs. What's Frankie's dad? To you? Right? What do you talk? Like? What kind? I know traditional, You know, what would you like the weekend to sing this like it was seeing a football song. How about that? Yeah. Football, Son? Yeah. Number nine on the story list. Those FBI agents that were killed this week. What more can you say about that? Other than the acknowledgment We have a lot of angry people, people you wish weren't in our country which they were somewhere else. These guys getting killed doing their job on what I mean, this This happens way you're gonna have the lesson is this is that law enforcement? We talk every time about? You know when somebody does something wrong in law enforcement. And by and large, most of these people, 99.9% of them are doing things right, and they're kissing their husbands and their wives. Goodbye and they're going out there and they're putting it all on the line every single day, and sometimes they don't come home. And so let these to be a lesson to people who maybe get really down on law enforcement that there are a lot of people out there who do the right thing who are trying to break up. Child pornography rings and who are just trying to get back home to their families safely, and they don't And so I think it's just a reminder that you know, we should say Thank you, everyone. Sweetie, we tend to weigh tend to generalize too much. In our excuse me in our country in discussion. You know, all police of this are all teachers of that or all radio focus. Just that's nonsense. Everybody's an individual and they're different circumstances. Do people when they get into like situations were working like communities like jobs, they sometimes start to think the same. Yeah, kind of That have everybody think that all of these people you're right are in the same kettle of fish. Not not smart, actually. All right, number eight. Excuse me. We seem to be focused a lot as usual in California and number eight. Jennifer as is in your court, as, uh, the movement to get rid of Newsome, the governor. As a really gained some steam. The last This is getting real, Isn't it? The poles of sinking Democrats? What the Democrats do it. How big a story it is nationally. I mean, every time I turn on national news, it seems like they're now talking about Our governor, and so, yeah, it's really likely that they've got enough signatures may be already. The thing with California is that they? Actually we verify signatures here when it comes to these kinds of races. It's amazing how rules apply for certain things, but not the others because people were screaming about verifying signatures during the presidential race in Georgia. That didn't happen, But what will happen is by March 17. That's how long the recall effort has to collect signatures. They will start looking at every single signature and they'll start scrutinizing it. Did you sign outside the box? Is there a mark that is that not within the confines of the signing area. We'll throw those signatures out. So with everything that puts that gets something on the ballot. You're going to give it a lot of scrutiny, so the number is that they have to reach 1.5 million. But more than that, the recall effort is looking to get closer to 1.8 or two million because they believe that somebody signatures will actually just be thrown out of contention. So they're certainly going waiters. Is this an online petition or and this is George or I mean, I know with covert. That doesn't happen to him. Probably it would be George a door in front of supermarkets or were drug stores or whatever, but because of Cove. It This is actually online efforts so people can print out their their their form. They can. I think there's like, three signature boxes. You could get your household to sign it. You could just sign it. The only rule is is that everybody has to be in the same county. So what? You feel that what county urine You signed the box. You send it back in and that's how they've been collecting the signatures because of covert. They were also given an extension period because when this first qualified Tolo into petition mode Everything was shut down, so they were actually granted an extra few months because of the pandemic, So that's benefiting. That was interesting. This high school football player his post went viral after he called out Newsome for a wasting this past year. I think that that's e think that's a general feeling all of us have not just handed Newsom means last year's been a big weight. It's been very arbitrary and the way things have been done in California, and that's just Pandemic stuff. I mean, there was a whole slew of stuff stacking up with unfunded pension liability. All these things that have been plaguing Newsome. It just got worse and then amplified by his failure with covert. And so now the question is who runs against him because you're going to have a choice that this makes it on the ballot as to who's going to challenge him. And it's possible that that new symbol the recall make it to the ballot. And then it's possible he'll survive. He'll survive the recall. What would his lieutenant for 60 No, That's not someone who governors. Hi Squad. Well, she could, but she's totally in the squad so she won't not should be gone. Number is seven on the story list. Our relationship with China. And Russia. Some people talking talking international relations what went on in Myanmar, But the if you look at the pictures from Myanmar, the cool the air What you're not seeing are the same kind of pictures coming out of China because they don't let that stuff out of China. But if you think that things are peaceful and quiet, everything's wonderful in China, then you're sadly mistaken. The Chinese population. The Russian population. There is real unrest, serious unrest in Russia, especially this past couple of weeks. Because of the you know how obvious it is What Putin is doing with anybody who runs it was in opposition to him. M surprises kill anyone who has support Against him. So like Navalny has, it's not just that he's out there. This one guy with a bullhorn. He's got thousands and thousands of people who are behind him. Yes. Oh, that's what's really scaring Putin about this whole thing. That's why they tried to poison him because you know, it's not like a hanging or is not like he dies mysteriously in jail. They just tried to poison him and That didn't work, so maybe somebody is trying to poison Putin. That's why doesn't somebody already has my bet He has a food taster. So, yes,.

"I'm Jake relates Talk radio 77 w A. B. C. Let's get right into it. Remember this more talk from all of you, then it's going to be from me. But now we got to take a little bit of a break. We gotta pay a tribute in homage to a guy who at times was so self deprecating, at least in time that I knew him. Although I wouldn't be considered a very dear friend of the departed Larry King. We did share some traits. We were boys from Brooklyn. You know what they say Every like one out of every seven persons in America has spent some time in Brooklyn even if it was just too passage. The guy used to wear Brooklyn like a badge of courage. And boy did he have his ups and downs? Not only in radio way was playing stacks of wax and talk radio talk TV but in his own personal life. And upon his death, I could think of no better person to bring on the air to discuss his life in times, the good the bad and sometimes they're really ugly. Then Michael Harrison, who loves this thing of ours, talk radio and all forms of radio because he puts out the publication each and every day for all of us, and for all of you called Talkers magazine. Which really gives you insight into so many aspects of what has happened in the past. What is happening now? And maybe what the future of this thing of ours is. Thanks for joining us today, Mike I'm honored to be with you. And let me tell you something. I'm a guy from Brooklyn too. And I have always warned that Isabel edge of courage and a badge of honor. It's great coming from Brooklyn. No, Mike before we reminisce about Larry King. There was a time where you were rocking the mic, not in the traditional sense of had a radio station. But You were actually a bunker at a store out in Long Island. Correct? Yeah, I started my major radio career as Happy bargain. Mike it Modell Shoppers world on Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow, where I would say attention shoppers. We have an exciting bargain for you. That will make you happy, too. And it went on to have a radio career many, many decades ago a minute longer than you are, and that included the no longer existent W N E. W. F M in New York, where I did the mornings back in the early seventies playing album Rock, and those were exciting days. Alison Steele the Night Bird. That's when that's when I would cheat on talk radio at that time, W M c A and listen to that. Old format musical extravaganza, but That was then. And while you were making your bones and I was making my bones, another one of our colleagues was down in Miami, Miami Beach. Trying to make his way A in playing snacks of wax on radio Larry King, You give us a little bit of an idea of his history cause most people know Larry King CNN, Larry King, the overnight radio host, but they really don't know how this guy had to climb the ladder. He was a character Larry King. Larry King was a colorful character that would have been out of the novel out of a movie. A TV show. He was a He was a regular guy, but he was no regular guy because all famous regular guys seem like regular guys, but they're not really regular guys because regular guys are in his interesting So he was a very interesting regular guy talked like a regular guy. He had a gambling problem. He was arrested. I even think he was in jail. He had a problem with women. He was married eight times. He couldn't keep a relationship going. Hey, was just a colorful guy that had lots of great characteristics. And he also had lots of shall we say? Personality problems in dealing with with people. So he worked his way through, you know? Ah, life like anybody else until all of a sudden the moon and the stars lined up and he was on radio in Miami, and they needed a radio announcer for a national network, the mutual broadcasting system in those days. And this was before they were talk shows in every city. There were only a handful of talk stations in the country in the mid eighties, and there were only a handful of practitioners and all of a sudden, Larry King is syndicated to hundreds of stations across the country on an overnight show, And here's the point. That's so interesting. This is so long ago in terms of the modern era. That most of those stations were adult contemporary. They were playing music during the day and doing talking night, so Larry King was The pioneer who in one fell swoop made talk radio, a national institution, and he was the first bona fide talk radio celebrity. To gain that celebrity in that fame from having been on radio not from having been someplace else and coming to radio. And then, of course, when CNN decided that they're going to have a nighttime town meeting show Where, where anybody who has their 15 minutes of fame a lot, Andy Warhol or is a true newsmaker of importance. Whatever it was, it became iconic. How many movies are there where they show the person made it big? And now they're on the Larry King show, and they would do a mock up of the Larry King Show on CNN. It came the iconic meeting hole and that which went 25 years, Curtis 25 years he hosted that show that Became the gateway for what we now call cable news, talk television and everybody that doesn't cable news talk television show or watches them. You know, religiously has Larry King to thank for paving that path, and even though it was coronavirus that eventually took his life, Michael Harrison how many times over the years The degenerate smoke and that he was four packs Chesterfield's no filter the chest breakers. The guy would be smoking. His doctors would say You're going to die. You're gonna die and the guy in between breaks guy tempted fate as you said, kind of checks. Not paying the vig to organized crime on his gambling debts. Now, this guy was e mean a little picture of you. We're not talking a guy with announced the muscle on his body. Yeah, he was always able to survive against the odds to come back and just sort of resurrect. We invent himself in radio. Mm. He reinvented himself constantly. It was far more to him than I even realized one of the things about I guess when a person of that profile dies, everybody does. Oh, bits, and then you read what everybody says. And most people obviously focused on the positive, and I realized reading all of these obituaries of listening and watching. That maybe he was better than I thought he was because my original take on him and I'm being honest with you is that he was a great pioneer. He was consistent. He was steady, and he made an art of being the average guy. An art of being the average guy. As you pointed out real life. Maybe he was just another picture out there who had a huge set of you know what's but the fact of the matter is, um, I I was quoted as saying He wasn't the greatest talk show host in history when it came to skills. He wasn't the most profound personality who changed the nature of the art people like Howard Stern and I miss and even you two to a great degree. He wasn't the best guy or the worst guy, but he was consistent. He was at the right time. And I've been asked the question to what do I attribute his longevity?.

"Comments go lower on social media this week about the big items on our charts from Talkers magazine. And that's the object of affection that this next hour the D. J. V program presents an overview. The hot hits. If we are using some of the language of the earlier days in my career, we are playing the hits If you will hot there used to be the end of the year. The hot 100 songs and We do the top 10 stories every week, actually, like the countdown on their music stations, every format country and a C All the music stations have these contacts every weekend started with Casey case in a matter of fact, ladies. I remember having a conversation on the air with Casey case him. About his When we were talking about the obviously American top 40 show that he did, And then he found out that I was doing knockoff news talk. Any head. He sort of laughed about it, he said. And what did he say? Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. And s. So he congratulated me on having I think at the time we had, like 300 stations that we're doing. The countdown. This was back in the late eighties, maybe early nineties somewhere in there. That was kind of fun to have that acknowledgement. But basically, that's the story every week Talkers magazine, the Bible of the talk radio industry. Is able to construct the list that has the top 10 items on it from news talk stations around the country that they monitor the host the programs themselves and the stations. So there we come up with this list, or they do And then we talk about it on the air here in sort of an answer. Very fashion, as in a company, our to Michael Harrison going through all of these stories and people lists. He's the editor and publisher of Talkers magazine's has become quite a tradition. And I thought it was a good idea to bring the DJ be years into this. So Jennifer Horn is here. Victoria Keelan and New to our list of participants is Jake Kushner, who's in charge of social media in the D. J. V program, among many other things. So, ladies, I might say to you is you look at this list Victoria when to start with you as you look at this list. Is there anything here? That comes up to the equivalency of the number one story this week, which is obviously what went on in the capital. Is there anything here that I mean, it seems that we've been overwhelmed. With a focus on this since the attack took place, But are there other things on here? That we ought to be spending some time on that have been lost? You were saying? I think in a couple of different circumstances on the air? Well, they didn't. This didn't get talked about this week That didn't get talked about this week. So you know anybody who had a bad PR week looking at you, Hilaria Baldwin. This was a great week for you because no one's talking about you anymore. S o. I think the I think number three. The Georgia runoff election right before the attack on the capital. That was definitely the biggest story. Um s so I think that there's still more to that story. When are they getting sworn in? When are those are the votes? Are those results certified? Yet? There are a lot of questions that I have that. You know, We just haven't had time to look into anything because everything's just been all consuming with the attack on the Capitol, But, yeah, I would think that's probably a very close one, eh? All right. I think even that phone call but Trump made to the Georgia election official. Yeah, that was a big deal, and they're people, I guess looking into that see if they're if that was illegal or whatever, but I still think that the attack is the proper number one and I think the Georgia runoff should be too. Certainly there are a lot of buttons pushed this week by the president was always calling the former president, cousin, my mind. He kind of is Jennifer. Do you want to take a shot at picking something in there? That May in your mind have deserved more talk more coverage. More thought. But where was over? We were all overwhelmed by the attack. Well, yeah, I think obviously, the bulk of the energy in the in all of our rooms went to that. But I think yes, The Georgia races is a big story. But for me the most important and Maybe I think you could even argue Maura important issue than even the attack on the Capitol is that what is number nine on the list, which is social media and the First Amendment. I think it is completely under under attack. I think a lot of people have First amendment or social media. But I will. I think social media is attacking the first Amendment in this country. I think that it goes hand in hand for a reason on the list. What I think is ridiculous again. Whether you blame Trump you hate Trump. They took down the video calling for his protester. The people who are out there to go home because they said he was inciting violence by saying two people go home and I think we're in a really dangerous position. Where we just shut people down that we don't like on social media. I think it is wrong. I know it's there right as a private business, but they're in a gray area there acting somewhere between a utility and a private company, and because of that they have certain responsibilities that are being violated. I had several friends yesterday and me included who lost lots of Twitter followers because of the contents of our tweets. Thousands of Twitter followers just poof vanished over over the course of the day yesterday, and so I Really take issue with people calling for unity. What only one group is allowed to talk, and I don't think it's ever going to be capable. I don't think we'll ever be capable of reaching that. If we continue down this path, you know we live in a country where we're supposed to be able to sit at tables with people that we don't agree with. That's what I take pride on that we try to do here every single day on the countdown on the D. J V show, we try to have various opinions, and you know what I hate when they get too hot because I feel like no one's listening if we're not talking to each other and by shutting people down and living in an echo chamber with one school of thought. We're never going to accomplish anything. And so I think that should actually be ah lot higher than number nine on the list because I think it really matters once this is all in the past. Well, I think that we have you hit a nerve here and it's worth because radio talk radio especially is part of this and I feel sometimes, like we are shouted down if we're in the middle or on the other side. By people who want to their the overwhelming force on talk radio is from the right. There certainly are on television opportunities and elsewhere. Certainly the print media is overwhelmingly pushed to the left. So when do we get to in the social media giants that is Google and Facebook. And I guess you know, Instagram and Twitter is they all fit in there, but they're all controlled. Isn't Facebook. The controlling interest in Instagram that they only think they own it? Yeah. Okay, So you got no variety. What's been the discussion for many years for me? Is consolidation and ownership of media, whether it be radio television print magazines and now with the new World Media.

This is why it is so important that we protect ourselves financially and recognize that if we don't provide the insurance to rebuild, we're forcing the state and local governments to do that, and as a result Municipal borrowing is now with a 10 year high state. Local governments sold over $250 billion worth of bonds last year, pushing municipal debt. Have $4 trillion that cares Act Last spring on Lee gave 150 billion to state and local governments. Nothing in the December 26th bill. You can expect President elect Joe Biden to be recommending legislation to provide a lot of money. Just state and local governments. And Americans try to come up cash wherever they could. We got more mortgages this year than ever $3 trillion worth of mortgages, more mortgage refinancings than ever beating the record of 2003. Tens of thousands of houses are under construction. But guess what A lot of them aren't for sale there for rent because homeownership is unaffordable for more than half of American workers, so investors air building entire communities selling the homes to investors not to homeowners. As a result, home occupancy is now being indistinguishable between renters and homeowners. In single communities. At the same time. New cars hit $40,000, the average price of a new vehicle hit that number for the first time ever. The average buyer borrowed $35,000 to buy a new car, a 5% increase over last year. It's not just cars and homes. Childcare is also hit a record. It's now $10,000 a year for a child under four to recede. Childcare in Washington D. C. The care for an infant. $24,000 a year. "You know, one of the things what is below? It is a lot of baloney here. Lot of salami has. What is it for? Grow progressively zero neither. Yeah. Somebody threw a few anchovies on it. Fat little sausage like it right? Exactly. You know, one of the things that strikes me is we're going through this list. That we haven't really heralded so much. But the if you look at the ratings and the impact that news talk radio has had, it almost has been a year of revival. I think I would look back this year. In news talk radio. I think that there have been those who have tried to dismiss what we were all about. But I think once again we were there collectively for the national conversation. I don't know that. What? Yeah, the one thing that I did want to ask you about it my feelings that you may dismiss them, But that's your prerogative number. 10 brought me around the thinking of a discussion I heard yesterday on an NPR station. About climate change. They have a daily feature on NPR about climate change. And I'm listening to this person on the year lecture me on what a bad guy I am, because I'm driving a car. That has gas or diesel power to it, and that if I was really with it, I'd be driving an electric car. And I guess I'm sick of hearing that arrogance. I don't happen to want to drive an electric car. It's not that I am not concerned about Weather and climate that sort of thing, but to listen to somebody who's basically being paid by me through federal funds. Tell me that I should be doing this. That and the other thing. The arrogance is bothersome. Even though the news talk stations that are public stations did quite well this year, as well as the commercial stations, Michael did they not. Well, yeah, they did. And the fact that you were offended by somebody generally lecturing society about the need to go from, you know fossil fuels to electricity. You took it offensive took offense at it doesn't mean that just I find it of not your election. Very personalized. It is not what we do. And we listen to the radio. He isn't that what the news talk radio is all about. The personality is somebody who's our friend, The person on the air somebody we know we're into his or her head. We hear what they're saying. We agree with what they say or don't agree, And it brings us to a point of thinking. Which is hopefully a good exercise is it that I think it brings us so I think it brings us to a point of not thinking. I think it's the opposite me in the liberal, really dancer daily dance of affirmation, targeting audiences, telling them what they already think, Making them feel good telling, giving them hope that their point of view is going to come to fruition and then You know, nimbly jumping out of the path of the bullet when when you have to dodge it because he was lying to them wrong. I know that serves both sides then, doesn't it the liberal and the concern I both sides are guilty. Uh and and I just have to throw out that electricity comes from coal to so electric power for cars is not necessarily cleaner than gasoline. And thank you. I mean, I mean where we're getting the electric from, but just put that on the side, you know that. That's not go off down that rabbit hole that you see there for next week, But I think you know you mentioned a bunch of stuff You said, you know, a revival for talk radio. There's no question talk radio is influential. It's powerful. It's given birth to talk media. All the cable news channels are offshoots of talk radio. The fact that opinion now leads as the main product of journalism organizations, is supposed to some type of objectivity. It goes back to that daily dance of affirmation. Everybody's telling. They target their audience, and then they Tell them what they want to hear. This is not thought inducing at all. It's the opposite, and it's led us to this polarization. We're at. Somebody asked me last night. I was interviewed about the year interview. And he said, Do you think 2021 is going to be a good year for talk radio? And I said at this point I don't give a damn. What's good for talk radio. I'm actually concerned about the country. That's an excellent point of view. You always just such a great job of a very concise way of putting things into the proper perspective. And that's why it's valuable to have you here with your thoughts on these issues and others.
