"So you have to build a great relationship, which we are today. However, I'm still catching up to my teammates and stuff like this. But it's a challenge, a great challenge. But are you more physically fresh? Because you haven't had the grind of the season? If you have got injuries, I think time off is a great time. Because if you continuously, every two weeks, every week you jump in the car, which is really difficult to heal the injury. But other than that, physical training, it's harder. Because the best training is actually in the car. Because we pull every single corner of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway by 4 .5G, every single corner, 200 laps. That's crazy. I did it at Pocono with Mario in the seat. We only made it to 180. But I felt like I was going to fly out of the car on every turn. It's intense. It's asymmetric. So obviously, it's not like the football player to running, dashing in the field. And you can clearly see the energy. While we are sitting in the car, how could you burn the energy? Because we are. We're burning about five pounds of the body weight for one single race. So you have to train really hard and mentally, physically prepare for it. Yes, I have a time for it. So I think I'm ready for 100%. Yeah, good for you. Takuma Sato, what's your favorite childhood memory? Well, childhood memory, I think it shows still something to do with the racing. Because I loved the cars and mud racing, things like that. Since when I was legalized these things, let's say two and a half years old. But I never had a chance, because my parents had no idea for the racing. So I remember back in really 1987, a long time ago. But I was 10 years old boy. And we went to the Suzuka in Japan, which was a Japanese Grand Prix in a Formula One race. The first ever in a current configuration. And that was just an unbelievable day. For me, I still remember the feeling and sounds and the smells. And just to be there for all the five cents. I still clearly remember that. Yeah, that's great. As an actor, I always got asked this question. I'm going to ask this question to everybody. Who plays you in a movie? Wow, the movies. Well, I like dancing with Washington. I think that's a good choice. Yes. Yeah, I can see the similarities. Absolutely. I mean, I'd be willing to. I'd be willing to. If it's an option, I'm just saying. All right, Takuma Sato, driver of the Deloitte No. 11. Thanks so much for joining us. Thank you very much. Good luck. Deutschland Uber Ales. I don't know any of the words. I assume that was written like 1946. Yeah. God bless America would almost make more sense. Yeah, I agree. Like it's like a little bit more about America than just a war that's ending. Absolutely. You know, a little easier to. That's also hard to sing, but it's a better tune. Yeah. Are you a singer? I mean, yeah, among other things, but yeah, I love it. And I saw my first, one of my first shows was in Australia. We were in Dalesford, Australia. You ever been there? Hepburn Springs, Dalesford, like outside of Melbourne, like up in the mountains. Cabooney's. Yeah. And I fell in love with this Australia. It's an incredible country. Have you done the national anthem in the USA? Yeah. For the Indians, actually. Do you start low? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, you gotta be able to get to the. Rockets. Hey, somebody's got it. Okay. Australians, oh, let us rejoice. Oh, we are young and free. Kangaroos, koalas and. Time kangaroo down sport. Time kangaroo down. Catch a wannabe. Time kangaroo down sport. Time kangaroo down. Another terrible interview. You're welcome. He's a good sport, this guy. Haven't started yet. Our guest is a very fine driver. He is Will Power. And for some reason, I don't know why Will and Drew were singing various national anthems, but that's okay. We're cultured. We were talking about Will earlier. I was somewhat surprised that Will is not familiar with the song Lady Will Power. No, I am now. Now, I introduced him to it. Like for years, years ago, I've been I've been aware of that song for about a decade. Yeah, that's because we played it for you. These guys had never heard it. Never heard. I've never heard that. Gary Puckett and the Union Gap Lady. Never heard of Gary Puckett either. Yeah, I mean, Puckett, Puck. Herbie Puckett. That's right. After the lawsuit, they still flying it. Yeah, no, there's names is are interesting and there's a guy named Sting Ray. Yeah. That's driving and then your name also means something else. Was that deliberately done by your folks for a reason? No, no. Well, I was named after my great grandfather, William Stephen Power, and I think they called him Will Power. But I wish my name was William now. I really do. Because it's very confusing for people, the whole Will Power thing. I would change my name if I did it over again. Maybe Billy. Billy Power. William down William Power. Great to have you back at Indianapolis. And looking forward, of course, the hundred seventh running of the Indianapolis 500. You got to be super psyched. What's going through your head right now? Sort of electricity and stuff. I noticed you blowing your nose for five minutes. I thought you were going to answer mucus. Yeah, yeah, that would have been much better. No, what's going through my head? I mean, it's an ultra competitive field. A lot of guys capable of winning. I think it'd be a day of who makes the least amount of mistakes

All right, the breaking wizards news tonight, general manager and team president Tommy shepherd has been relieved of his duties after four seasons in which the wizards failed to finish with a winning record and made the playoffs only once. For the first time in NBA history, we have a unanimous coach of the year. It is the king's Mike Brown. He earns the award for the second time in his career. On the court, the Memphis Grizzlies even without John morant are soundly beating the Lakers 59 44 at halftime of game two, LA shooting just 35% in that first half. The bucks will try to do the same here shortly. They play without Yanis Santa Takuma tonight with that back injury. They are hosting the heat in game two in just a few minutes here. Game two of the so called battle of the beltways going Baltimore's way the Orioles leading to nationals three, nothing in the bottom of the 7th inning. They have seized the lead for the first time in this game, 74 68 now, more than midway through the third quarter, leading the charge is Devin Booker with a game high 22 points. Kevin Durant, the local product with 17 points, all of that, though, coming in the first half. Now, fortunately, no big stars getting injured in this one and can't say that about the first two games of today as the Milwaukee Bucks would lose Giannis onto Takuma to a lower back contusion following an awkward fall. They went on to lose game one of the Miami Heat in Memphis where we hatch a Murray scored 21 of his career playoff high 29 points to lead the Lakers past the grizzlies as John morant left with a hand injury in the fourth quarter of that game. Now the nationals back home snapping the four game slide they come from behind beat The Guardian 7 to 6. They wanted 8 to four over the White Sox. The road to the XFL championship. That's got to come through Audi field now. Well, we are in anticipation of the start of the Asian session here looking at gains essentially is we get what was over there over here and what I'm talking about here is the fed minutes and how they put a spark on the U.S. equities we saw them of course also that those minutes hit the dollar, which are depreciated 1.3% as a consequence of the idea that the fed will be reducing the pace of their interest rate hikes looking ahead. We have a future for Hong Kong and turkey on the way up. The ASX has been up and running for 47 minutes in Sydney, the market there showing up straight in shares up by one quarter of 1%. Got to say that U.S. stocks that did end the Wednesday session higher than our volumes are tad week, of course, given Thanksgiving, but it was all a game down to the fed's latest minutes. We've got S&P 500 NASDAQ notching games for a second straight session. We've got at the moment to bond market, which saw a bit of a rally and it yields down 3.69% on the U.S. ten year, but it was the oil market which took a hit as well. Trading 77 bucks 43 cents a barrel don't forget this time yesterday. It was on 80. But it was the dollar where the real damage if you like took place as I said down 1.3% of the back of that we've got Sterling with a one 20 handle we got to play the Euro with the ¥1.04 trading a ¥139 32 send right now as well. "Yes, I saw that. L 46 report, the end of this game. And I was like, yep, sounds right. Where are you at on this Boston Milwaukee series is we kind of move into the critical games here. I really called my shot going into this series and I said Boston in 5 and it was just complete disrespect to Milwaukee and Lyanna Santa Takuma, but I just felt for so long pretty much since January that the Celtics just have a look in their eye that isn't really rivaled by many teams and I just love the job email did and how everybody was bought in. I love the roster. I love everything. I love the way Tatum and brown are playing. I say all that to say this, if I'm bossed it, I'm not like too upset about where this is based on kind of how bad Tatum is played. It took a 42 point performance in the ten point Tatum performance for the bucks to win by three. And so of course, that feels like a game that got away in the playoffs. You can't have games get away, but I feel like Boston's done as good of a job as they could do minus kind of Tatum just not really looking like himself as of late, but it's a hard fought series. I mean, E may more than bud schematically has been interesting and different. I love the way that they guarded Yanis early. Essentially just letting them kind of single cover them, let them roam, force him as the screener to make a decision. And then there's the, oh, I want to shout out brook Lopez too. He's looked interesting. Yeah, from Brooks who have been out for, I mean, God, how many games do Brooklyn play this year? Couldn't have been more than ten. Yeah, I was gonna say, yeah, it might be generous. Play 13. Yeah. You know, and he looked good when he came back, right? Like he looked like he had sat out the season and waited for full health because that's the luxury they had being the NBA champion having as much talent as they have is that they can afford to wait on stuff like this. And for him to come back and be full health does really just change their defense. Now, it essentially makes Boston a jump shooting reliant team. And while I think they can do that because they've Jason Tatum and they have jaylen Brown and they have Marcus smart can be a hot cold guy in terms of knocking down shots. They have Derek white, who I thought was actually really good in game three. Yeah, I think that it just creates real variants for them. And if Brooke is back like this, and if they get Middleton back at some point like in game 7, I know that Shawn said that it looks likely he's going to miss the whole series. So let's take that at their word for now, but if something crazy happens just because this series is so long with the layoffs that both of these teams have had throughout the series and they do get Middleton back a little bit early, I think Milwaukee is the favorite right now to win the title..

Rossi, also of blacks and Joseph, New Garden, unable to take advantage, So move Alexander Rossing that fifth position back up front. Graham Ray Hall, your leader. As the exits turn Number seven. He has a four colleagues advantage over at Joe's Jack Harvey in third. So check The pace of Graham Ray Hall as we talked about a little bit more ginger on fuel, perhaps, but he has Jones behind him. And then it's Jack. Harvey. They are really spaced out right now. Let's call it three car links between each of them in the fourth place. Runner is Alex. Polo is everybody works their way cleanly. Now through turn number 10. Maybe what you think about that Move by Alexander Rossi. Yeah, Great. Great past. We've seen that earlier in the Indy lights raised by Kirkwood, where two drivers that kind of tangled up down there and turn one or 25 position. The third one just passing them. Both did a great job on that a little bit of a brave move, but he made it work didn't touch anything. Anybody leaders are exiting tournament three. Yeah, Everything's starting to settle down as Graham Rail has about four car length advantage over edge. Does Harvey's there and then it's Alex below. In that fourth position. Rossi fifth that it's Joseph. New Garden. Six Got. Dixon is seventh and a couple of Carl Expect to Takuma Sato. But grab rail guys thus far. Good. Restart. Good second lap as we went back to Green battle might be for second, though, Jake worry as Jack hardly started to pressure at Jones. Jack Harvey, looking in on edge, Jones call it to Carly. We keep an eye on that. Scott McLaughlin also Made a Rossi type move on that last lap coming into turn number one that got him past Potter award Significant from a point standpoint, that puts McLaughlin into the 13th position. Speaking of award more on him for Brian Marine Yeah, Jake. Just before he got passed by Scott McLaughlin. He came over the radio and said, We need power. Then McLaughlin pulled up alongside and past him and he said, What's going on? It seems that we're checking on it, but possibly something amiss with the power delivery for the five car, Michael. "J. C W. Johnson City, Tennessee, W M. R. E in Charleston, West Virginia and W I am A in Lima, Ohio. Davey Hamilton. Feels like this caution could have timed out perfectly for some not so good for others. Let's talk a little bit about the strategy. First of all, How do you think this affects our new race leader Graham Ray Hall? Well, I think may her grandma. Unfortunately, we'll just have to wait and see. Now he needed about six laps of fuel to get to the end of this race. If this caution goes six laps and may benefit him, it just depends on how long this yellow is going to be. Who I think it definitely advantage is the guys we talked about that went off course. The first lap Pelo Dixon Rossi Rosenquist because they were barely going to make it on feel barely with this yellow and helps them they'll just stay on their strategy. They already made their first pit stop under yellow. They just stick with what they're doing. It may advantage those as well. So because when we see that the ones that came in which was award dating power for those that fit again, they cannot make it to the end anyway, so they're going to have to put again. So what you're saying is those guys that thought they were being slick jumping on pit lane right before the caution, they still got to pitch again. And now they've lost all track position to Dixon. And that's right. They lost track position. You remember work still in 12. A lot of things can happen up in front of him. But I really think that with him having to make one more stop and majority of the drivers in front of them, including Ray Hawk and possibly with this yellow, like I said, it needs to be a long yellow grams, praying for a long yellow. I don't know that it will be because it's just too offs. But the longer the better for Graham, but the ones that may take advantage of Pelo for sure. Dixon for sure. Rossi Rosenquist heard of those drivers. They should just be able to stay on their normal strategy. Be okay for more on the strategy involving our race leader Graham Ray Hall. Let's go back to Pit Lane and Ryan Marine The radio channel. To this point, guys indicates that they do think this fits into their strategy. All right. They are having Graham save some fuel here Under this yellow. There's still crunching some numbers to make sure that they feel like this shook out the way that they initially thought, but If that is indeed the case, they are quite confident that this did fall into their hands. They asked Graham just a moment ago. How is the tire deg been, he said. It's been good, just a little bit of a problem with a slight bit of wear on the left front win on Reds. That's what they will keep an eye on. But all in all everyone quite calm and optimistic here in the hotel camp for Graham, Ray Hall, David how about the day for Joseph New Garden pitted four laps after Ray Hall, but still five laps prior to guys like below, and Dixon he finds Himself in fifth has Tim cigarette. Have they kind of worked a little magic here to get him up into the top five? Yeah, You know, I don't know if it's magic her luck because drivers being sent to the back and new garden was already back there. They made that initial pit stop early on to this race under yellow Elect 10. I think it was nine or 10. Then go back grain to like 11 or 12. So it right now, as I said, when I was going if it's state grain, and oh, man, this this is going to fall into all those drivers hands with blow leading that pack. I figured that he had a really good opportunity think he still does? But don't forget Jack Harvey is in front of polo. He pitted on lap 40. He's with this yellow. It may give him enough fuel to make it to the end with that one more stop as well. Yeah, your leader's They kind of cycle out based on how they pitted Graham Ray Hall pitted on lap 35 at Jones was able to go to lapse longer on 37 Harvey. With three laps longer until lap 40. And then you've got that group that is only alternate strategy. Starting with Alex below. Who is your points Leader as they run right now. Three markers over Pato Awards 16 over New Garden 38 over Dixon and 71 over Marcus Ericsson. Your top five here in the Grand Prix of Portland Grammar Hall, Ed Jones, Jack Harvey, Alex Below and Joseph New Garden as we work the second full course caution. We've had six different leaders today. Seven lead changes as we have also reached The halfway point of this event. 55 laps in 55 laps to go running at six. Joseph New York City's got Nixon New Garden runs in the fifth. Alexander Rossi is seventh. Masada was eight. Felix Rosenquist is nine. Colton Heard of is 10th some of the lap leaders today Pato award has led 28 laps. Grammar hall 18 laps on the day, Jack Harvey and Scott Dixon of both lead three laps at Jones with two biggest movers from their initial starting position. How about Takuma Sato? He is Plus 18 on the day from the back of the pack up to the eighth spot. Jack Harvey has had a nice day. He is plus 17. And then as we mentioned Joseph New Garden started 18th today, but he has found his way to the top five. He is plus 13 and fastest lap of the race so far has been turned. By Rina Speak a at a minute flat. The lights are off of the pace car. It was relatively quick cleanup Davey Hamilton, So it's just going to be fascinating to see the good news program Ray Hall We saw he could go long during that first stint. But ultimately you're saying the question is, Can he go long and make just one more stop? Or is it going to be tight to make two? He I think you'll really have to say fuel from now to end this race, but what better place to be in that safe fuel, But In the lead. Making the other other drivers try to catch you and passed. Everybody behind him has more fuel than if everybody, including second place as two more laps than him. Harvey and third place has five more laps than he does flow has four more so RAM could be in the driver's seat is all about feeling right now, they all have one more stop to make it to see if he could save a few on this yellow J Query Pace car is pulling away from.

Colton Herta at Graham, right holders in hot pursuit Heading up toward the keyhole. Graham Ray Hall took a long, hard look at making that move entering the keyhole. Now at the bottom of the keyhole, he's going to go to the inside. They are side by side. Yeah, You know what? I feel bad Colton's had fuel issue. Problems. I mean, I know of three major ones with fuel issues in his career, and that was probably the worst one. Something happened with the filling nozzle. It wasn't venting or something. The field just was the valve was an open who knows what happened? Man. What a costly stop putting in from second to seventh. Now it doesn't seem like a lot of position on race track, but he was two seconds behind New garden. With that happened. "There is a whole line of cars coming your way. Scott McLaughlin, Simon passion, No willpower, Marcus Eriksen and others. Let's see where they all blend in as they head to the north End. So Scott MacLachlan In the machine of side of passion. Oh herder, And then Alexander Rossi. Marcus Eriksen was the big loser in that willpower Now entering the circuit as well. They'll get right in front of Takuma Sato. And behind him. Is the machine off Ramada grow shod. Also the machine of Felix Rosenquist just now making it out of the circuit, But Nick Yeoman Ramada Grow shot is making this field look silly at this point. He has pretty much fallen and we have a car off its jack Harvey. Yeah, it's Jack Harvey and turned seven. There is something wrong with that race car. He is very slow. Trying to get his way through the S is Jake the entire field just trying to get around Harvey without making contact again. The leader is Ramana grow Zhaan. But as we watch now, coming back on for the flat right rear of Jack Harvey, the machine that had the incident and pit road he's able to get back under some speed. But he's gonna have to come to pit road. He's working his way. And he wisely now starts to go to the left in turn number 12. Everybody's starting to back up around him. Jack Harvey now is gonna have to get to the outside is everybody is able to get underneath him. And here comes Jack Harvey dejected for sure. Jack Harvey on the Pit road, Davey. That's a tough, tough break for that. It all started when he came on to pit road. It all started with PETA Road right now. Flat tire by then we had a problem. Get that tire on. I'm gonna bring him in right now. We'll see. We'll see the unfortunate stop that they have to make. This is their third. I'm gonna have to have another one and Dalton.

"Your points leader Scott Dixon. He hasn't pitted since the lap number three and Ryan Marini comes into your view that three pit stop came because he was caught up in the opening. Last accident here comes to PNC Bank. Our crew going to work is entire pressure adjustment at the rear of the car. Just trying to find a bit more stability, Speedway fuel and Scott Dixon is down to the way it looks like Ed Jones. Willpower, feelings. Rosenquist Takuma Sato, a good battle into turn number one. This is the battle for the 13th position. Michael Jones will lead that. Great train willpower finally getting his fit foot back underneath him or speed. I should say underneath him feelings. Rosenquist will be right behind him. Those are some great battles, eh? Jones gets a nice launch out of turn up before but for the first time, it looks like well, power's back on his getting out. This is in the back half of the field at Jones and that blue mouse or electronic scar about four car lengths over willpower power about four over Felix Rosenquist. Then it's Takuma Sato charging hard. The fourth car on that train and Pato award the winner of Texas. Jake. Those five snake their way out of 10 hours got to actually just think to himself a sense of relief that he finally now is right in the thick of it to Michael's point, maybe finding some balance of that car trying to close it on Jones. He's got Rosenquist just behind him. No real movement is they kind of accordion themselves right now, and it's our number 13 Alex below fairly comfortable in third, but it looks as though that Rina's BK is getting a bit more racy with a back to the field, See Vaginal in pretty good shape in the night position. Alexander Rossi looks pretty comfortable in the 11th position. But again, things stacked up a bit behind that quote. Play front again, Jones and in turn over what Jones has 12 and willpower would like to get it back after that free fall through the field moments ago, so willpower will lose a couple of spots that its feelings Rosenquist, the machine of Takuma Sato, right there as well as well as Pato Award, But it is the machine of Ed Jones making his way through the switchback of five. It looks like he has a comfortable advantage over willpower. Yeah, there nose to tail. But Jones is comfortable right now. Over willpower Call it five car legs. The driver from Dubai will get hard on the brakes and yank that steering wheel to the left. Turn over seven willpower will mirror those inputs as they make their way through Turns 89 10 because of the fact that Ed Jones has that blue paint scheme, it still takes my eye getting used to it to realize that that is exactly who that is. But willpower is giving it a very hard examination because he is closing in. Even more so in that solid blue machine, But Rosenquist is right. They're right behind power with the same distance. That group now works its way through Turn number 13 30 lives complete Girls Yacht Harvey Pelo VK and New Guard. The top five of last year in the car, made a pledge to support diversity and inclusivity throughout the paddock and each of our events to get it. Update on some of those initiatives. Let's check in with Katie Kyle's with a member of IndyCars community on track with diversity. We just finished Arden's first caution of the race, the only cost so far for 12 laps. Can't wait to see Mark what this does for Tony, Get on. I mean, he has a fast race car. We know that obviously Jake, where he has a scot of been tuned in with the drama being stuck in sixth gear. But now all of a sudden TK If they got those gremlins worked out Mark. He's back in the game and ninth with fast race cars should be addressing to see You guys got a young greenest BK right ahead of him rookie and Scott McLaughlin. Graham Ray Hall, another one, and they waited it jealousy. It's Ray Hall Sato talent all waiting till lap 68 to go to pit road. Yeah, those are guys that pitted once got trapped a lap down, and I think there's thought process now Mark is because we ran so many laps under yellow better come in cab off and get back on the on the strategy with everybody else. The guys that didn't willpower Marcus Eriksen Pato Award Simon Passion. Oh, when those next round of pit stops happened, they're gonna be the first ones that come in, David. No question. Gonna be a long night for AJ point racing in the crew. Sebastian board A. They've got a pretty bad Death race car that they've got to put together. The good news is way Don't rate race until late in the afternoon tomorrow, so they do have some time, but it's still gonna be along. That form is gonna be a long night, guys. I see the car being backed into the garage right now, all the crew heading that way, and they're gonna evaluate it very quickly to see what all they need to fix. But it's gonna be a long night for that A J. Foyt group and let's go to pit road getting updates from Michael Young. Yeah, just touching on Joseph New Garden that it's that he will have to go back of the pack. Killed flat to follow the 29 tips Just got on the radio. You have to go to the back. Joseph didn't really argue with this. So you will see him restart in the 20th position. It restricted. No, David, that new gardens of what that goes to the rear of the field and board a pointed the goat herder for slowing up off of turn number two. Yeah, I don't know about that call. I don't think that was a great call. But that's just me from here point. Just like that driver. I got slow down in front of me in your fast you are and these speeds you gains quickly, guys and cold must have issue but we're behind you. You don't know that's happening. And you everybody slow down the facet good and just barely touched him. So I don't feel that's a fair call personally, But that zone that just means the race driver know what kind of help these cars work. Orca who carried her dead calf for 1,000 miles is pregnant

"Pregnancies are good news for the southern resident killer whales and right now, it looks like there are three whales including j thirty five who could give birth. But there's a long way to go today. We're GONNA talk about the lives of these orcas and our complicated relationship with them here to do that with us is Linda makes she's the environment reporter at the Seattle Times Linda. Thanks for joining us. Thank you, Trish. So give us a quick recap on J. Thirty five for people who weren't here maybe when her calf died. So J thirty five or Takuma really is the ORCA whale who changed the conversation about this very small population of whales and very sadly trish as I talked to today that population is even smaller than it was two years ago when she gave birth to a female calf and it live for only one half hour, and then she did something that scientists know these animals do as well as other, very, highly intelligent. Socially, bonded animals they grieve and she just refused to let that baby go. Now, this calf is probably six feet. Long weighs about three hundred pounds, and for seventeen days, she just refused to let it go and she had to decide to retire. She went down for breath to pick it up once again and carry it some more, and it really did touch the hearts. People around the world and even though these southern resident orcas have been listed as dangerous since two thousand and five. Suddenly people really did understand for the first time, just how fragile they are, and the fact that these aren't just random black and white wildlife. These are families with very, very close bonds. And why do you think that we feel so attached to these orca because I grew up in the Eighties and Wales were such a big deal. You know every girl had little whale necklace and why do we feel so attached I'm gonNA, make a sound for you inherit comes. That is sound of a whale breathing. They are mammals like us, and that's sound when you hear it, it's like a sound from the beginning of the world. It's It's a magnificent presence to be with these whales and you and you understand as you observe their family bond says, you see the way they take care of one another. You know they're so superior to people they. They have brilliant diplomacy. They share space in the ocean without ever warring or committing any acts of aggression against one another. They've families together for life. It's really quite remarkable and they've been around don't forget this for six million years as a species. So these are in every way our elders and mentors for how to run a successful society and don't forget this. They were doing just fine until we showed up. How do we raise up the cause of the ORCA of the environment here without doing the thing that we tend to do a lot of as humans, which is just the help that hurts, how do we walk that line? Actually, this is easier than ever I mean, let's remember how we got to know these southern resident whales. Well, it was the capture era which by the way was not that long ago. Free, willy. Oh. Yeah. Anybody could go out and catch themselves a killer whale for an aquarium or for that matter, sell it for profit anouar in the world until as recently as are you ready Nineteen, seventy six. So wow, that's really recent. Recent and the only while who've had survived that time is still alive and she's still at the Miami Seaquarium and the fiftieth anniversary of her capture and Penn cove is on August seventh. Wow. This is recent time and ironically it was through seeing these so-called killer whales up close in captivity and realizing their incredible intelligence and they're gentle personalities that people went through a whole change in their understanding about these animals and today they're not only revered but protected and I said it's easier than ever to love these animals without loving them to death God look at what you can watch the documentary footage that's out there to enjoy these animals is so much. Better than anything that has ever been available. The amount of knowledge we have about them is superb growing by the day and you know you can watch them from shore. The idea that you need to spend the money by the way and get on a boat. Go after them. You know that's not the only way to enjoy these whales and I think that it's important to. Show some restraint and also some respect for their space. So. J thirty five is pregnant. Again, this is a good sign but two thirds of pregnancies in this population are lost. I learned this lesson with birds in my backyard last year in a nest so. This is not the time for a baby shower. We have a long way to go here. That's so well said. I would think about it. This way this time to hold space for these oils to hold them in your mind and think about what you can do to help whether it's something that might feel small but adds up such as be involved in local land use decisions in your community. That's where all this getting decided about how much of the puget sound lowlands we retain and how much we pay of over. You know these tedious things that we don't think matter like Oh, the king, county flood control district. Well, you know what they're up to. They're thinking about the future of the Green. River. which is upstream from the Duwamish, the green flows into the duwamish Seattle's only river. It's very important Salmon River for the whales and so things like paying attention to what's the local flood district doing what is going on in my local community? By Way of development? All of these things make a difference especially if all of us do. and. Read learn about these animals become informed. Educate Yourself. You know there are lots of ways to get involved and stay involved and play heart in whether. Tele. Calf actually. Does get born and does survive. To me, that's our work song as a region. May Her next calf with? So J thirty five. How will scientists track her pregnancy? Will very remotely fortunately. The scientists who do this work are John, Durbin? And Holly Fehrenbach, and they're they're a team of scientists who came up with a new method. using drones to photograph these Wales from at least one hundred, few of them and remote Louis activated. So they're far from the whales. So nowhere near them, the whales don't seem to show any notice of these drums when they're flying. And they take suspect hack your pictures, and there's something about the angle from above That's very different from a boat. You can see not only the shape of the whales. You can watch their behavior, their families. I. Make It takes your breath away and it is an entirely new view of the lives of these Wales and when it comes to keep track of j thirty five and the other pregnant whales. They're going to do is take another peek in September. DID THEY FATTEN UP? Did they pump up or are they going into winter in good shape? Are they look stressed or are they looking skinny? Most importantly with regard to her? Is She nice fat around? They'd like to see her a lot rounder in September than she is now for early in her pregnancy, these whales carry their babies, believe it or not for eighteen eighteen months Linda I read that and I thought. Oh. My Gosh Holy. Mackerel A. And actually then the real work starts because they've got to feed not only themselves, but they've got a lactate and that's a very, very high fat milk. So she's got her work cut out for her so they'll immature September and we will all cross our fingers that she's even bigger. And then you know she's either. Going to be carrying another kappa which time. I, don't know what I'll do. Or, we'll see her romping with a baby. You know We'll see what happens next I. do think that we ought to kind of hold our breath. A little bit chances are are high that things won't go well, but it doesn't mean that she couldn't surprise us and we might have some more good news. Let's remember there have been two berths to southern residents and let's remember Linda are bar for hope, is pretty low. Sleep. Vote through. Isn't it for the? Thought, I'd get a good peach these days and I'm just thrilled. Good Peach. Tomato. I'm good.
